Australian families for decades. 00:02:40.16\00:02:42.86 The Gold Coast is Australia's sixth largest city 00:02:42.89\00:02:46.90 and one of its fastest-growing, thousands of people are moving 00:02:46.93\00:02:51.13 to the Gold Coast each year and they're coming to stay. 00:02:51.17\00:02:55.44 The growing population means more homes, shops, offices, 00:02:55.47\00:03:00.88 and factories, each new building needs glass windows, glass doors 00:03:00.91\00:03:06.38 and sometimes even glass roofs. 00:03:06.41\00:03:08.75 And one of the many builders and glass specialists 00:03:08.78\00:03:11.82 on the Gold Coast who delivers and fits all this glass 00:03:11.85\00:03:15.42 is Robert Brzeski. 00:03:15.46\00:03:17.56 Robert and his family fled their night of Poland and its 00:03:17.59\00:03:23.40 draconian communist government in 1981, seeking freedom and 00:03:23.43\00:03:28.04 the ability to worship and practice religion according 00:03:28.07\00:03:31.97 to their conscience. 00:03:32.01\00:03:33.38 Traveling at night with the help of friends 00:03:33.41\00:03:35.64 they escaped across the border into Czechoslovakia 00:03:35.68\00:03:38.81 and then made their way through Hungary and the former 00:03:38.85\00:03:41.98 Yugoslavia into Austria. 00:03:42.02\00:03:44.15 They were apprehended crossing the border 00:03:44.19\00:03:46.79 into Germany and were placed in a refugee camp. 00:03:46.82\00:03:50.09 Robert was 17 at the time and had completed a brick laying 00:03:50.13\00:03:54.76 apprenticeship before fleeing Poland, after many months in 00:03:54.80\00:03:58.67 limbo desperately seeking a country to take them in. 00:03:58.70\00:04:02.54 Australia accepted Robert and his family as Political refugees 00:04:02.57\00:04:07.81 they arrived in Sydney aboard a Quantas flight in December 1982. 00:04:07.84\00:04:12.68 Robert reveled in the freedom of his new country 00:04:12.71\00:04:16.42 and soon embraced the Australian culture and way of life. 00:04:16.45\00:04:19.99 Robert enrolled as a carpenter's apprentice and became a licensed 00:04:20.02\00:04:25.09 carpenter two and a half years later. 00:04:25.13\00:04:28.36 Then, while working as a carpenter Robert completed a 00:04:28.40\00:04:31.80 five-year building management course and became a 00:04:31.83\00:04:34.77 licensed builder. 00:04:34.80\00:04:36.14 While completing his builder's course, Robert fell in love with 00:04:36.17\00:04:40.51 Biatta, a fellow refugee from Czechoslovakia 00:04:40.54\00:04:44.11 just across the border from his native Poland. 00:04:44.15\00:04:46.65 Robert and Biatta were married in 1989, and honeymooned 00:04:46.68\00:04:52.05 on the Gold Coast, they soon discovered that they had 00:04:52.09\00:04:56.59 not only fallen in love with each other but also with 00:04:56.62\00:05:00.36 the Gold Coast. 00:05:00.40\00:05:01.73 Married life drew not only responsibilities and Robert 00:05:01.76\00:05:06.63 worked long hours as he established a reputation 00:05:06.67\00:05:09.80 as a top class builder. He was A perfectionist and made sure 00:05:09.84\00:05:14.64 he had the very best tools for his work. 00:05:14.68\00:05:17.25 He saw these tools as an important and worthwhile 00:05:17.28\00:05:20.52 investment as they were a critical part of his every day 00:05:20.55\00:05:24.35 activities. Before long, he owned thousands of dollars 00:05:24.39\00:05:29.26 worth of tools and equipment. 00:05:29.29\00:05:30.76 Robert and Biatta's family expanded to five 00:05:30.79\00:05:35.56 with the arrival of two sons and a daughter. 00:05:35.60\00:05:38.27 Now Robert's work, tools, and equipment became even more 00:05:38.30\00:05:43.74 important as he had a growing family to care for. 00:05:43.77\00:05:47.21 Whenever they could, they would return to the Gold Coast 00:05:47.24\00:05:50.85 for their holidays and they moved permanently to the 00:05:50.88\00:05:54.08 Gold Coast in 2004, where Robert established a building business. 00:05:54.12\00:05:59.15 Robert began to specialize in glass and aluminum installations 00:05:59.19\00:06:05.06 he fitted out and provided services for large shopping 00:06:05.09\00:06:09.00 centers, new high-rise apartments and luxury homes. 00:06:09.03\00:06:12.90 His tool kit was growing all the time and became more 00:06:12.93\00:06:17.34 and more important in providing and caring for his family. 00:06:17.37\00:06:20.78 He was soon to find out just how much those tools meant 00:06:20.81\00:06:25.11 to him and what extremes he was prepared to go to 00:06:25.15\00:06:29.15 in order to protect them. 00:06:29.18\00:06:31.09 At 5:45 pm, after work on Thursday the 23rd of July, 2020, 00:06:31.12\00:06:39.09 Robert attended an appointment at the Robina Chiropractic 00:06:39.13\00:06:44.00 Wellness Center just a few meters behind me here. 00:06:44.03\00:06:47.44 It was the only place at the group of shops open after 00:06:47.47\00:06:51.14 business hours, and there were only a few other cars 00:06:51.17\00:06:54.38 in the parking lot. He parked his Juke outside the building 00:06:54.41\00:06:58.35 under the street lights. 00:06:58.38\00:06:59.98 He was only away for about half an hour and on his return, 00:07:00.02\00:07:04.62 he heard and saw something that got his heart pounding 00:07:04.65\00:07:08.42 and the adrenaline racing through his body. 00:07:08.46\00:07:11.39 After leaving the appointment I heard that somebody's been 00:07:11.43\00:07:15.96 walking around my truck and slammed my toolbox 00:07:16.00\00:07:18.87 I turned around and I saw a gentleman carrying 00:07:18.90\00:07:22.17 tools out of my truck. 00:07:22.20\00:07:23.61 Robert immediately ran towards the man, shouting for him 00:07:23.64\00:07:28.51 to stop. As he got closer the man threw the tools 00:07:28.54\00:07:32.78 onto the seat of his own Juke and jumped inside 00:07:32.81\00:07:35.45 and started the vehicle. 00:07:35.48\00:07:37.19 In an instant, the Juke was racing directly towards Robert 00:07:37.22\00:07:41.89 with the engine revving and the tires screeching 00:07:41.92\00:07:44.73 again, Robert yelled out STOP, STOP. 00:07:44.76\00:07:49.16 All he could think about was getting his tools back 00:07:49.20\00:07:52.27 and he just had to recover them. In a flash, the Juke was 00:07:52.30\00:07:57.51 bearing down on him, at that moment he realized that 00:07:57.54\00:08:01.34 the driver fully intended to crash into him, or run over him. 00:08:01.38\00:08:05.78 Now, his life was in serious danger. 00:08:05.81\00:08:09.95 At this moment, I was in front of the car and I saw 00:08:09.98\00:08:13.46 that it is not going to go anywhere after asking to stop, 00:08:13.49\00:08:16.29 I jumped on the truck on the bonnet... 00:08:16.32\00:08:18.93 Now, he was face-to-face with his assailant as he clung 00:08:18.96\00:08:23.50 onto the bonnet for dear life. 00:08:23.53\00:08:25.33 Robert hoped the driver would stop, however, the thief had 00:08:25.37\00:08:29.67 no intention of slowing down or stopping. 00:08:29.70\00:08:32.07 He floored the accelerator and raced off out of the car park 00:08:32.11\00:08:36.44 towards the exit. As the Juke screeched out of the parking lot 00:08:36.48\00:08:40.48 the thief swerved sharply to the left, and that caused me 00:08:40.52\00:08:45.62 to slide off the truck, off his bonnet and at 00:08:45.65\00:08:48.72 that stage, I grabbed a ladder that was on his roof rack 00:08:48.76\00:08:51.23 and that ladder has slid along the roof rack causing me 00:08:51.26\00:08:56.87 sliding with the ladder and falling off the truck 00:08:56.90\00:08:59.57 and breaking his side mirror. 00:08:59.60\00:09:01.37 The Juke was now traveling at speed and the driver 00:09:01.40\00:09:05.01 swerved sharply to the left again trying to dislodge 00:09:05.04\00:09:08.64 Robert. Then he entered the main roadway at high speed 00:09:08.81\00:09:12.78 cutting in front of traffic with Robert, who at this stage 00:09:12.81\00:09:17.62 was hanging on the side of the Juke with his legs 00:09:17.65\00:09:20.72 close to the road surface. 00:09:20.76\00:09:22.12 Robert could see all the traffic behind the Juke, 00:09:22.16\00:09:25.59 he was fearing for his life but he couldn't let go 00:09:25.63\00:09:29.30 as the Juke was traveling at high speed and was still 00:09:29.33\00:09:32.43 accelerating. Once on the road the thief swerved from the 00:09:32.47\00:09:37.37 left lane to the right lane causing Robert to be thrown 00:09:37.41\00:09:41.14 back onto the bonnet of the Juke again. 00:09:41.18\00:09:43.01 While the Juke was swerving from side to side, Robert 00:09:43.04\00:09:47.45 somehow managed to regain his balance and proceeded 00:09:47.48\00:09:50.99 to crawl higher up the bonnet towards the top of the 00:09:51.02\00:09:53.92 windscreen. He then reached over the windscreen and 00:09:53.96\00:09:57.79 clamored over the cab roof before he jumped into the 00:09:57.83\00:10:01.36 tray of the Juke and landed between the toolboxes. 00:10:01.40\00:10:04.50 Meanwhile, the driver continued to swerve from left to right 00:10:04.53\00:10:09.77 without stopping, desperately trying to shake Robert off. 00:10:09.80\00:10:13.98 He traveled about one and a half a kilometer down the 00:10:14.01\00:10:18.38 main roadway with Robert bracing himself between the 00:10:18.41\00:10:21.65 toolboxes on the back tray. 00:10:21.68\00:10:24.35 As he looked around, Robert saw more of his tools lying on the 00:10:24.39\00:10:28.56 back of the tray. 00:10:28.59\00:10:29.92 At this stage, I saw all my tools on the back of the truck 00:10:29.96\00:10:33.83 and I picked up the one that's got a metal tip, 00:10:33.86\00:10:36.73 then broke the rear windscreen. 00:10:36.77\00:10:39.10 Once the window was smashed open, Robert started to talk 00:10:39.13\00:10:43.37 to the thief in a calm manner. 00:10:43.41\00:10:45.57 He told him how foolish he was an asked if he understood 00:10:45.61\00:10:49.14 what he'd done. Robert encouraged the thief to stop. 00:10:49.18\00:10:52.85 He asked him if he had a plan regarding what he intended 00:10:52.88\00:10:56.55 to do now. All of a sudden Robert felt a 00:10:56.58\00:11:00.96 rapid acceleration as the Juke started to turn to the right, 00:11:00.99\00:11:05.93 once it had made the right turn the vehicle began to skid 00:11:05.96\00:11:10.07 and soon was fishtailing down the road. 00:11:10.10\00:11:13.17 I saw a Juke coming quite fast from the left, and it was 00:11:13.20\00:11:16.44 turning right, and I slowed my speed and watched him 00:11:16.47\00:11:20.04 go around the corner, he started to drift a little bit and 00:11:20.08\00:11:23.41 that's when I noticed the guy in the back holding on to the 00:11:23.45\00:11:25.38 tray, and he looked like he was surfing or carrying on a 00:11:25.41\00:11:29.18 little bit, so the first thing that registered was 00:11:29.22\00:11:30.55 ahh, just a couple of idiots being stupid, and then I saw 00:11:30.59\00:11:33.22 the Juke clips the curb and flipped over. 00:11:33.25\00:11:35.79 I was on the phone with my sister at the time 00:11:35.82\00:11:39.53 and I noticed, I just freaked out a little bit, and I just 00:11:39.56\00:11:43.06 said look, I got to go, I think I've just watched someone die. 00:11:43.10\00:11:45.27 So, really quickly, I turned around and pulled out 00:11:45.30\00:11:48.64 next to where the Juke flipped and landed... 00:11:48.67\00:11:50.34 The driver had lost control of the vehicle and had hit 00:11:50.37\00:11:54.54 side curb and flipped onto its side. 00:11:54.58\00:11:57.31 The Juke then skidded on its side across the footpath 00:11:57.35\00:12:01.35 and into the garden before it came to a full stop 00:12:01.38\00:12:05.05 Robert managed to walk away with only a few scratches. 00:12:05.09\00:12:09.69 Once off the Juke, Robert saw that it had rolled back 00:12:09.72\00:12:14.00 onto its wheels again, he was afraid that the driver would 00:12:14.03\00:12:17.37 take off again and so quickly ran over and opened the driver's 00:12:17.40\00:12:21.30 door, he grabbed the thief and held him back in his seat 00:12:21.34\00:12:25.47 as he was trying to get out of the Juke, 00:12:25.51\00:12:27.64 then Robert noticed that the thief was reaching for 00:12:27.68\00:12:31.41 the ignition keys and trying to restart the vehicle. 00:12:31.45\00:12:34.78 He was trying to start the car and with a bit of a struggle 00:12:34.82\00:12:40.06 I regained control and took the keys out of his ignition. 00:12:40.09\00:12:42.86 At this stage, he was screaming abuse, help, help 00:12:42.89\00:12:47.03 he's abusing me, and spectators started coming and 00:12:47.06\00:12:51.23 started screaming at me. 00:12:51.27\00:12:52.60 I saw a guy holding the driver in the seat, trying to 00:12:52.63\00:12:56.27 restrain him and the first thing that registered was 00:12:56.30\00:12:58.77 where's the guy in the back and I'm trying to look for him 00:12:58.81\00:13:01.21 and I'm like, oh man, there's a guy in the back, where is he 00:13:01.24\00:13:03.31 and the guy's, it's me, I was in the back, okay, 00:13:03.35\00:13:06.58 how are you alive? 00:13:06.61\00:13:07.95 People start helping me and I start screaming for them 00:13:07.98\00:13:11.02 to call cops and ambulance and at this stage, as soon as 00:13:11.05\00:13:15.32 I took the keys out of his ignition, he stopped struggling 00:13:15.36\00:13:19.56 because he realized that he has nowhere to go. 00:13:19.59\00:13:21.86 Then the driver holding the driver in the seat 00:13:21.90\00:13:23.87 he was explaining that the driver had just stolen 00:13:23.90\00:13:27.50 some tools from his truck and to my amazement, I just 00:13:27.54\00:13:31.61 man, you shouldn't be worried about your tools, 00:13:31.64\00:13:33.41 you should be worried about you, and he didn't even have 00:13:33.44\00:13:35.74 a scratch on him somehow, but, yeah it's just a pretty 00:13:35.78\00:13:39.31 extraordinary sight. And he asked to come out of the car 00:13:39.35\00:13:42.05 and I said, definitely not, and I asked him to reseat himself 00:13:42.08\00:13:47.92 and his sin is not going away. 00:13:47.96\00:13:49.66 I think that driver was pretty defeated by that point 00:13:49.69\00:13:52.03 by the time I roughed him up and a few people gathered around 00:13:52.06\00:13:54.53 and he just submitted, and he just sat there until the 00:13:54.56\00:13:57.23 police came. 00:13:57.27\00:13:58.60 And when the police came, I just stepped back and let the 00:13:58.63\00:14:01.54 police take the charge, and I just became one of the crowd. 00:14:01.57\00:14:05.57 Robert risked his life to recover his tools, 00:14:05.61\00:14:10.81 he used them every day at work and those tools meant 00:14:10.85\00:14:14.42 a lot to him as they allowed him to provide for his family. 00:14:14.45\00:14:17.79 and he is willing to risk every- thing for his family 00:14:17.82\00:14:22.66 and their well-being. 00:14:22.69\00:14:24.03 Robert Bresky's experience reminds us that there are times 00:14:24.06\00:14:29.56 when it's good and appropriate even necessary to stop, reflect, 00:14:29.60\00:14:35.20 and take a close look at our lives and consider what 00:14:35.24\00:14:38.74 we're willing to die for. 00:14:38.77\00:14:40.68 What do we love more than life? What things are worth dying for? 00:14:40.71\00:14:46.45 Now, why is it important even vital to do this? 00:14:46.48\00:14:53.36 Well, simply because the things worth dying for reveal 00:14:53.39\00:14:58.63 most powerfully, the things worth living for. 00:14:58.66\00:15:01.66 You see, the things we are willing to die for 00:15:01.70\00:15:04.87 are properly understood, the very things that we should live 00:15:04.90\00:15:10.17 for, the things that give live meaning. 00:15:10.21\00:15:13.51 Now, of course, there are many things that are not worth 00:15:13.54\00:15:16.41 dying for or even worth living for that matter 00:15:16.44\00:15:20.28 these include so much of what the media, society, 00:15:20.32\00:15:24.32 and our modern culture values and prizes and brainwashes us 00:15:24.35\00:15:28.59 to think they're vitally important, such as acquiring 00:15:28.62\00:15:32.83 more and more meaningless things seeking pleasure, 00:15:32.86\00:15:36.46 achieving high status, success, power, the focus is on self, 00:15:36.50\00:15:42.34 me, I. Yes, it's all about me. 00:15:42.37\00:15:46.61 We live in an age when we become preoccupied with self, 00:15:46.64\00:15:52.08 the whole focus is inward rather than outward. 00:15:52.11\00:15:55.12 The question is moved from what is best for other people 00:15:55.15\00:15:59.15 and the family to what is best for me? 00:15:59.19\00:16:03.46 Some even think we're becoming a nation of narcissists 00:16:03.49\00:16:07.43 that's when people become self-centered and focused 00:16:07.46\00:16:11.27 on themselves and need excessive admiration and approval 00:16:11.30\00:16:15.00 from mothers while showing disregard for other people's 00:16:15.04\00:16:18.61 sensitivities. 00:16:18.64\00:16:20.34 The rise of hugely popular social media networking sites 00:16:20.38\00:16:24.55 have only promoted and exacerbated the situation. 00:16:24.58\00:16:27.52 Recent research found that people who posted large numbers 00:16:27.55\00:16:32.42 of selfies on social media developed a 25% rise 00:16:32.45\00:16:37.19 in narcissistic traits over a four-month period. 00:16:37.23\00:16:40.56 Now, I think we'd all agree that whole scene and situation 00:16:40.60\00:16:45.73 certainly isn't worth dying for, or even living for. 00:16:45.77\00:16:50.34 So, what is worth dying for? Well, let's remember 00:16:50.37\00:16:57.18 that when we talk about what's worth dying for, we're really 00:16:57.21\00:17:01.68 talking about what's worth living for because the answer 00:17:01.72\00:17:05.62 to each is the same. What's worth dying for 00:17:05.65\00:17:09.19 and living for? Only love. 00:17:09.22\00:17:12.53 Throughout history, men and women have been willing to die 00:17:12.56\00:17:16.56 for family, friends, country and beliefs. 00:17:16.60\00:17:20.84 In a sense, these are natural loves. 00:17:20.87\00:17:24.67 Love is demanding it draws us not inwards 00:17:24.71\00:17:29.44 but outside ourselves. Love changes our focus from 00:17:29.48\00:17:34.25 self to others. Consider these four natural loves. 00:17:34.28\00:17:39.32 Let's start with the family. Families at their best 00:17:39.35\00:17:43.73 are an exercise in self-denial for those we love. 00:17:43.76\00:17:48.33 Mothers and Fathers make huge sacrifices to raise and 00:17:48.36\00:17:53.94 protect their children, the whole focus is directed toward 00:17:53.97\00:17:58.14 their children, their family. 00:17:58.17\00:18:00.18 Parents are prepared to make from small sacrifices to 00:18:00.21\00:18:05.25 major life changes in order to make sure their kids 00:18:05.28\00:18:09.18 have a better life. 00:18:09.22\00:18:10.55 Parents strive to make their kids' lives better before they 00:18:10.59\00:18:15.56 come into this world and continue to do that 00:18:15.59\00:18:18.59 to their very last breath. 00:18:18.63\00:18:20.56 The sacrifices they make for their family, their children, 00:18:20.60\00:18:24.63 are innumerable. 00:18:24.67\00:18:26.17 Just consider some of these sacrifices. 00:18:26.20\00:18:29.24 Time, money, relationships, personal life, sleep, 00:18:29.27\00:18:34.71 freedom, social life, career, food desires, the list goes 00:18:34.74\00:18:41.12 on and on. Parents are prepared to sacrifice everything 00:18:41.15\00:18:45.35 all because they have unconditional love for their 00:18:45.39\00:18:48.72 family, their children. 00:18:48.76\00:18:50.33 Sometimes that means making the ultimate sacrifice 00:18:50.36\00:18:54.63 like the heroic mother in Hunan, China, who was trapped 00:18:54.66\00:18:58.83 with her two children in a blazing 4th-floor apartment 00:18:58.87\00:19:02.20 with no way of escape. 00:19:02.24\00:19:03.87 She managed to salvage some bed sheets and throw them 00:19:03.91\00:19:07.34 out of the window to onlookers below to use to catch 00:19:07.38\00:19:11.01 the children. Racing against time and the toxic smoke 00:19:11.05\00:19:14.62 that was weakening her, she lifted her daughter 00:19:14.65\00:19:17.45 and threw her out of the window to safety. 00:19:17.49\00:19:20.39 Then using her last ounce of energy, she managed to lift 00:19:20.42\00:19:25.06 her son to the window so that he too could jump to safety. 00:19:25.09\00:19:29.46 But all that effort taxed her body to the limit and 00:19:29.50\00:19:34.14 sapped all her energy, she collapsed and was overcome 00:19:34.17\00:19:37.94 by the fumes and fire. She made the ultimate sacrifice 00:19:37.97\00:19:42.21 to save her children. 00:19:42.24\00:19:44.05 She knew what she was willing to die for. 00:19:44.08\00:19:48.28 Here is another example of natural love. 00:19:48.32\00:19:51.25 Friendship. It's generally a more mild love than family 00:19:51.29\00:19:56.06 and the notion of dying for a friend may seem remote 00:19:56.09\00:20:00.33 however, Jesus once said. 00:20:00.36\00:20:02.86 And indeed in almost every culture since 00:20:09.90\00:20:12.71 the beginning of time, sacrificing your own life 00:20:12.74\00:20:16.41 in order that others may live, has been regarded as the 00:20:16.44\00:20:20.32 ultimate act of selflessness and courage. 00:20:20.35\00:20:22.85 Understandably, it's an act only few people are ever 00:20:22.88\00:20:26.92 willing to make but over the course of history some 00:20:26.96\00:20:30.83 remarkable people have done just this, 00:20:30.86\00:20:32.99 they've given up their own lives so that others 00:20:33.03\00:20:36.67 can carry on living. 00:20:36.70\00:20:38.53 Max Colby was one of them, he was a Polish Priest 00:20:38.57\00:20:43.14 who was sent to Auschwitz Concentration Camp in 1941? 00:20:43.17\00:20:47.74 Now, there was a rule in Auschwitz, that 10 men 00:20:47.78\00:20:51.51 would be if one attempted to escape the concentration camp. 00:20:51.55\00:20:56.02 A man from Colby's bunker escaped in July 1941 00:20:56.05\00:21:00.79 so 10 men elected to be starved to death. 00:21:00.82\00:21:05.33 One of the chosen prisoners who Colby had befriended, 00:21:05.36\00:21:09.16 cried out about his wife and young children who needed him. 00:21:09.20\00:21:13.07 Immediately Max Colby stepped forward and asked 00:21:13.10\00:21:17.57 to take his place, the commandant agreed, two weeks 00:21:17.61\00:21:22.21 later Colby was dead, but he knew what was worth dying for. 00:21:22.24\00:21:28.15 Another example of natural love that people are willing 00:21:28.18\00:21:31.95 to die for is our country. 00:21:31.99\00:21:34.62 History is full of stories of young men and women, 00:21:34.66\00:21:37.53 soldiers that have been willing to risk their lives to protect 00:21:37.56\00:21:41.66 their country and fellow citizens, and thousands of them 00:21:41.70\00:21:45.73 have paid the ultimate sacrifice. 00:21:45.77\00:21:47.97 One of them is John Simpson, who enlisted in 00:21:48.00\00:21:51.77 World War I. He was a stretcher bearer with the Third Australian 00:21:51.81\00:21:55.24 Film Ambulance Brigade during The Gallipoli Campaign 00:21:55.28\00:21:58.91 After the landing on the Anzak Cove on the 25th of April, 1915, 00:21:58.95\00:22:04.12 Simpson used donkeys to provide first aid and carry wounded 00:22:04.15\00:22:09.02 soldiers to the safety of the beach from where 00:22:09.06\00:22:12.16 they could be evacuated. 00:22:12.19\00:22:13.73 Day after day and week after week Simpson and his donkey 00:22:13.76\00:22:18.50 would wind their way through the hills and valleys 00:22:18.53\00:22:21.10 looking for wounded soldiers even though it was 00:22:21.14\00:22:24.37 very dangerous. Simpson would crawl on his belly 00:22:24.41\00:22:28.41 often under heavy fire and drag soldiers back to safety. 00:22:28.44\00:22:32.41 He would then put the injured soldier on the donkey's back 00:22:32.45\00:22:35.75 and lead him down to the beach and safety. 00:22:35.78\00:22:39.12 He continued this work for three and a half weeks 00:22:39.15\00:22:42.29 until he was killed by machine gun fire while trying to save 00:22:42.32\00:22:46.39 another soldier. 00:22:46.43\00:22:47.83 John Simpson knew what was worth dying for. 00:22:47.86\00:22:52.77 Another example of natural love that people are 00:22:52.80\00:22:56.94 willing to die for is Beliefs. 00:22:56.97\00:22:59.47 Down through history, people have been willing to sacrifice 00:22:59.51\00:23:03.68 their lives for what they believe in and that's 00:23:03.71\00:23:06.98 certainly true about religious beliefs. 00:23:07.02\00:23:09.42 Take, for example, Christian beliefs. 00:23:09.45\00:23:12.65 Since the time of Christ, many of His followers have been 00:23:12.69\00:23:17.43 prepared to die for their faith and belief in Him. 00:23:17.46\00:23:20.60 During the time of the early church, there was Stephen 00:23:20.63\00:23:24.43 and Polycarp and many others. Then, later, there were people 00:23:24.47\00:23:29.44 like William Tyndale, who was willing to die in order to 00:23:29.47\00:23:34.04 translate the Bible into English. 00:23:34.08\00:23:36.11 And then there were others like Jerome and Leon Huss 00:23:36.14\00:23:40.28 who were willing to die for their belief of Jesus 00:23:40.32\00:23:42.98 and Bible truth. For them belief and faith in Jesus wasn't just 00:23:43.02\00:23:48.89 something to live for, it was also something to die for. 00:23:48.92\00:23:53.80 Yes, they knew what was worth dying for, so there they are 00:23:53.83\00:24:01.27 Four Natural Loves: family, friends, country, and beliefs. 00:24:01.30\00:24:09.14 Throughout history, men and women have been willing to die 00:24:09.18\00:24:13.21 for them.
