Moses! Born a slave but destined to rule over Egypt's empire 00:00:22.58\00:00:29.12 rescued from the river, adopted by a princess, 00:00:29.16\00:00:33.73 and raised to be Pharaoh, instead, leads a nation 00:00:33.76\00:00:39.33 of slaves to freedom and changes the world. 00:00:39.37\00:00:43.10 Moses! A hero for our time. 00:00:43.14\00:00:48.21 The chariots raced forward in a billowing plume of dust, 00:00:54.78\00:00:58.69 war cries wild enough to curdle blood, 00:00:58.72\00:01:02.32 echoed from the army as they raised their weapons 00:01:02.36\00:01:05.19 and charged towards the helpless crowd of slaves 00:01:05.23\00:01:08.66 huddled along the shores of the Red Sea. 00:01:08.70\00:01:12.53 The Hebrews had thought that they were safe, 00:01:12.57\00:01:14.54 at long last after an onslaught of deadly plagues 00:01:14.57\00:01:19.37 Pharaoh had been forced to acknowledge this sovereignty 00:01:19.41\00:01:22.78 of Yahweh the Hebrew God and let His people go. 00:01:22.81\00:01:27.02 In the wake of one of the manifestations of God's power 00:01:29.28\00:01:34.49 the Hebrews joyfully prepared themselves leave the land 00:01:34.52\00:01:39.29 of their bondage and turn their faces towards the 00:01:39.33\00:01:42.63 one thing that mattered most to them, freedom. 00:01:42.66\00:01:46.47 Now set free, no longer slaves the Hebrews moved out from Egypt 00:01:46.50\00:01:52.21 to claim the land that God had given them, The Promised Land. 00:01:52.24\00:01:56.88 Their hearts were filled with equal parts of gratitude 00:01:56.91\00:02:00.78 and wonder, they had witnessed and experienced God's salvation 00:02:00.82\00:02:06.62 through the blood of the lamb on their doorposts. 00:02:06.65\00:02:09.26 When the firstborn of Egypt had died the Hebrews had witnessed 00:02:09.29\00:02:14.66 the power of God to keep their children alive. 00:02:14.70\00:02:18.23 As they headed out of Egypt their hearts thrilled with 00:02:18.27\00:02:22.50 the excitement of witnessing yet another one of God's miracles 00:02:22.54\00:02:26.81 they were free, despite years of despair and sinking hopes 00:02:26.84\00:02:31.95 they were finally free. 00:02:31.98\00:02:34.38 God led them down to the shores of the Red Sea, 00:02:34.42\00:02:37.82 Egypt was behind them, the sea before him and for the moment 00:02:37.85\00:02:43.16 they were too deliriously happy to ask questions about 00:02:43.19\00:02:47.36 how they would get across the wide expanse of 00:02:47.40\00:02:50.63 shimmering water before them and then disaster struck. 00:02:50.67\00:02:55.00 Pharaoh had a swift sudden change of heart, 00:02:55.04\00:02:59.07 he could not let his slaves go, he could not acknowledge 00:02:59.11\00:03:03.11 their God, he would reclaim not only his slaves 00:03:03.14\00:03:07.35 but salvage his pride in the process. 00:03:07.38\00:03:09.95 And so gathering together a large part of his army 00:03:09.98\00:03:13.96 600 chariots and countless footmen, Pharaoh pursued 00:03:13.99\00:03:18.56 the Hebrews delighted to find that they had made a 00:03:18.59\00:03:21.66 tactile error in choosing their escape route. 00:03:21.70\00:03:24.60 With their backs to the sea, and Pharaoh's army blocking 00:03:24.63\00:03:29.07 their only other exit, it looked certain that the Hebrews 00:03:29.10\00:03:32.77 would be destroyed by the might of Egypt before they'd 00:03:32.81\00:03:36.61 even begun their journey of freedom, they were doomed. 00:03:36.64\00:03:40.55 As the chariots of Pharaoh raced towards them 00:03:40.58\00:03:44.05 an unstoppable wall of brute force, the terrified screams 00:03:44.09\00:03:48.36 of the Hebrews mingled with the triumphant battle cries 00:03:48.39\00:03:52.29 of the Egyptians. 00:03:52.33\00:03:53.66 When all hope seemed lost a miraculous display of God's 00:03:53.70\00:03:58.27 power saved the Hebrews from the murderous designs 00:03:58.30\00:04:02.17 of their former taskmasters. 00:04:02.20\00:04:04.87 Join me this week as we look at the final awe-inspiring 00:04:04.91\00:04:09.08 episode on the life of Moses from the time of the Exodus 00:04:09.11\00:04:13.62 to the moment he stood on Mt. Nebo overlooking the 00:04:13.65\00:04:18.05 Promised Land. 00:04:18.09\00:04:19.42 When Moses returned to Egypt to save his people from bondage 00:04:31.73\00:04:36.24 the Hebrews or Israelites had been enslaved for 400 years 00:04:36.27\00:04:41.88 freedom was a strange and exciting concept 00:04:41.91\00:04:46.48 one they had longed for but never had experienced, 00:04:46.51\00:04:50.05 they knew only hard labor and the lash of the taskmaster. 00:04:50.09\00:04:55.22 Archeological findings about the builders of the 00:04:55.26\00:04:59.16 ancient royal tombs and the Pyramids of Egypt 00:04:59.19\00:05:02.20 shed some light on what some working conditions In Egypt 00:05:02.23\00:05:05.67 would have been like. 00:05:05.70\00:05:07.04 While the Israelites didn't build the pyramids 00:05:07.07\00:05:09.90 the lives of those who did, give us a rough idea 00:05:09.94\00:05:13.44 of what life would have been like for workers and 00:05:13.48\00:05:16.71 slaves in Egypt. 00:05:16.75\00:05:18.31 Deir el Medina is an ancient Egyptian workman's village 00:05:18.35\00:05:22.95 which was home to the workers who built the royal tombs 00:05:22.98\00:05:26.72 found in the Valley of the Kings. 00:05:26.76\00:05:28.69 Forensic studies on the skeletons of these builders 00:05:28.72\00:05:32.23 of the royal tombs and also from the cemetery of the 00:05:32.26\00:05:35.36 pyramid builders near Giza revealed not only 00:05:35.40\00:05:38.67 shortened life expectancy but considerable wear and tear 00:05:38.70\00:05:43.44 due to heavy labor as well, their bones tell the story 00:05:43.47\00:05:48.14 of hard and heavy work. 00:05:48.18\00:05:50.58 When the Israelites were finally set free, they didn't begin 00:05:50.61\00:05:54.48 their journey alone, God placed Himself to lead and guide them 00:05:54.52\00:05:58.82 all the way to the land He had promised them. 00:05:58.85\00:06:01.59 In the form of pillar of cloud by day and 00:06:01.62\00:06:05.53 a pillar of fire by night God went before the Israelites 00:06:05.56\00:06:09.76 not just to show them the path they were meant to take 00:06:09.80\00:06:12.73 but also to provide protection and comfort. 00:06:12.77\00:06:16.27 On the shores of the Red Sea when the Israelites faced the 00:06:18.84\00:06:22.21 charging Egyptian army, the pillar of cloud rose up 00:06:22.24\00:06:26.25 and formed a defensive barrier between them 00:06:26.28\00:06:29.58 preventing the Egyptians from reaching them. 00:06:29.62\00:06:32.15 Regardless of this protective measure the Israelites were 00:06:32.19\00:06:36.79 terrified and their faith in God's ability to fully deliver 00:06:36.83\00:06:41.16 them from their oppressors wilted in the face of this 00:06:41.20\00:06:45.17 devastating new challenge and crushing setback. 00:06:45.20\00:06:47.74 Panic-stricken they wished them- selves back in slavery 00:06:47.77\00:06:52.01 accusing Moses of delivering them only to die in the 00:06:52.04\00:06:56.04 wilderness but God had already delivered them once 00:06:56.08\00:07:00.18 from the Egyptians and now caught between the Egyptian 00:07:00.22\00:07:04.05 Army and the Red Sea he would deliver them again. 00:07:04.09\00:07:07.49 The Bible says... 00:07:07.52\00:07:09.49 Well, Moses did as God commanded he held out his staff 00:07:24.51\00:07:29.61 over the sea and while the terrified Israelites watched 00:07:29.64\00:07:33.42 God miraculously parted the sea before them providing a 00:07:33.45\00:07:37.75 pathway of escape between the walls of water by the side. 00:07:37.79\00:07:42.36 Exodus chapter 14 and verse 22 tells us... 00:07:42.39\00:07:46.83 As the Israelites crossed the sea on dry ground 00:07:57.07\00:08:00.61 the pillar of cloud that had stood between them 00:08:00.64\00:08:03.88 and the Egyptians lifted. 00:08:03.91\00:08:05.68 When the Egyptians saw that their slaves were escaping 00:08:05.71\00:08:09.22 they charged after them right into the middle of the sea. 00:08:09.25\00:08:13.25 But God had not brought the Israelites out of slavery 00:08:13.29\00:08:17.23 only to allow the Egyptians to destroy them on the shores 00:08:17.26\00:08:21.36 of the Red Sea. 00:08:21.40\00:08:22.73 The Bible describes how God delivered the Israelites 00:08:22.76\00:08:26.80 once and for all. 00:08:26.84\00:08:28.17 But it was too late, the walls of water on either side of 00:08:49.29\00:08:53.96 the Egyptian army collapsed over them rushing in to 00:08:54.00\00:08:58.07 drown them as the stunned Israelites watched from 00:08:58.10\00:09:01.60 the safety of the far shore. 00:09:01.64\00:09:03.74 It was a decisive victory over an oppressive that had 00:09:03.77\00:09:07.98 enslaved them for 400 years. The level of joy that 00:09:08.01\00:09:12.61 washed over the Israelites was as overwhelming as the 00:09:12.65\00:09:16.12 wall of water that took their enemies down to a watery grave. 00:09:16.15\00:09:20.79 The acclaimed poet Maya Angelou described the plight of being 00:09:20.82\00:09:30.47 enslaved in a poem, "The Caged Bird." 00:09:30.50\00:09:33.30 One verse in particular is especially poignant and haunting 00:09:33.34\00:09:37.61 she writes... 00:09:37.64\00:09:39.37 In a sense, we are all enslaved and looking for freedom 00:09:51.25\00:09:56.49 like the Israelites, their plight is ours as well. 00:09:56.52\00:10:00.90 You see, the Bible tells us that the entire human race 00:10:00.93\00:10:06.43 has been enslaved by a fearsome and tyrannical adversary, 00:10:06.47\00:10:11.11 the Bible names that adversary Satan, and he is described 00:10:11.14\00:10:16.31 as both a dragon, eager to inflict pain, and a serpent, 00:10:16.34\00:10:20.82 equally ready to will deception. 00:10:20.85\00:10:23.75 Either way Satan, or Lucifer, as he was originally known 00:10:23.79\00:10:28.62 in heaven is described in the Bible as a fallen angel 00:10:28.66\00:10:32.66 bent on seeking the destruction of those God loves. 00:10:32.69\00:10:37.00 His reign of oppression spilled on to the earth as a result of 00:10:37.03\00:10:41.54 Adam and Eve's sin, and since then in every successive 00:10:41.57\00:10:45.91 generation, he has found men and women who have been 00:10:45.94\00:10:48.81 enslaved by his lies and deception. 00:10:48.84\00:10:52.21 Surrounded by the results of Satan's reign of terror, 00:10:52.25\00:10:56.55 we are caged by hopelessness, despair, suffering, and death 00:10:56.58\00:11:01.99 and we all feel it personally in one way or another 00:11:02.02\00:11:06.49 because sin keeps us trapped in a cycle of anger, envy, 00:11:06.53\00:11:12.40 greed, sexual immorality, broken relationships, 00:11:12.43\00:11:16.87 unforgiveness, and selfishness. 00:11:16.91\00:11:19.81 We long for a better world a world free of the war, disaster, 00:11:21.74\00:11:27.08 death and suffering we see all around us. 00:11:27.12\00:11:30.02 We desperately want true freedom that sets us free from 00:11:30.05\00:11:34.52 fear, guilt, worry, and bitter- ness, like caged birds 00:11:34.56\00:11:40.43 we sing of things unknown but long for still, no more tears, 00:11:40.46\00:11:45.53 no more heartache, no more strife. 00:11:45.57\00:11:48.60 We long for freedom and God hears our song, in fact, 00:11:48.64\00:11:54.28 even before we knew the tune He had already provided us 00:11:54.31\00:11:58.75 with a solution. This means that God had a plan for our 00:11:58.78\00:12:03.42 rescue in place even before Adam and Eve sinned. 00:12:03.45\00:12:06.96 Jesus left heaven and came to this earth to rescue us, 00:12:06.99\00:12:11.43 He came so that He could pay the penalty for our sins 00:12:11.46\00:12:15.96 and mistakes, He came to die for us, and in dying for us, 00:12:16.00\00:12:21.97 He not only paid the price for our sins, 00:12:22.00\00:12:25.07 but He also secured our freedom from slavery to sin... 00:12:25.11\00:12:29.81 Matthew chapter one and verse 21 tells us... 00:12:29.84\00:12:33.78 Jesus came to deliver us from the bondage of sin 00:12:40.42\00:12:44.49 through His death on the cross Jesus saved us and bound 00:12:44.53\00:12:49.63 the power of Satan so that He could set His captives free 00:12:49.66\00:12:53.54 and offer them the joys of freedom with all its promises 00:12:53.57\00:12:57.61 and possibilities. 00:12:57.64\00:12:59.54 Through Jesus, we can have freedom because He lives 00:12:59.57\00:13:04.48 you can have eternity, you might not see Him but He sees you 00:13:04.51\00:13:09.88 you might not yet have chosen Him but He chose you 00:13:09.92\00:13:14.42 when He died for you on a Roman cross. 00:13:14.46\00:13:17.66 If like the caged bird you were singing of things unknown 00:13:17.69\00:13:22.20 but longed for still, you can have the assurance that Jesus 00:13:22.23\00:13:27.00 holds the key to unlock your cage of hopelessness and 00:13:27.04\00:13:31.67 despair. Now, after being delivered and safely crossing 00:13:31.71\00:13:38.05 the Red Sea Moses and the Israelites sang a song of 00:13:38.08\00:13:41.92 celebration and triumph in expressing their gratitude and 00:13:41.95\00:13:45.79 faith in God Exodus chapter 15 records this song and it begins 00:13:45.82\00:13:50.83 with these beautiful words... 00:13:50.86\00:13:52.49 No longer did they need to sing of freedom, 00:14:07.34\00:14:10.98 now they were experiencing it, now their song was one of joy 00:14:11.01\00:14:16.52 at acquiring the one thing they had desired for so long 00:14:16.55\00:14:20.66 and gratitude to the God who had given them that gift, 00:14:20.69\00:14:24.49 the gift of freedom. 00:14:24.53\00:14:26.43 In Exodus chapter seven, verses four and five 00:14:26.46\00:14:31.97 God explained to Moses the reason behind the 10 plagues 00:14:32.00\00:14:36.84 and by extension His miraculous deliverance at the Red Sea 00:14:36.87\00:14:40.74 which brought the Egyptian Army to its knees. 00:14:40.78\00:14:43.61 God's acts of judgment against Egypt were designed to 00:15:04.93\00:15:09.37 turn the Egyptians away from a system of religion that was 00:15:09.40\00:15:12.91 empty and deceptive. It was designed to show them that 00:15:12.94\00:15:17.01 their Gods were powerless and their ideological 00:15:17.05\00:15:20.42 framework flawed. 00:15:20.45\00:15:21.78 For example the Nile River was considered to be the center 00:15:21.82\00:15:26.05 of ancient Egyptian existence, in fact, the river was worshiped 00:15:26.09\00:15:29.92 as a god and was considered to be the force that bound 00:15:29.96\00:15:34.26 upper and lower Egypt into a United Kingdom. 00:15:34.30\00:15:37.00 When God turned the Nile into blood, He turned the lifeline 00:15:37.03\00:15:41.34 of Egypt into a stagnant pool of death that struck 00:15:41.37\00:15:45.57 at the very heart of Egyptian religion. 00:15:45.61\00:15:47.88 He was letting the Egyptians know that he was the life giver 00:15:47.91\00:15:52.58 and not their gods. 00:15:52.61\00:15:54.12 Then there was the plague of frogs, Egyptians worshiped frogs 00:15:54.15\00:15:58.89 in the form of their goddess Heqet who had the face 00:15:58.92\00:16:02.02 of a frog, she was the goddess of birth and fertility. 00:16:02.06\00:16:06.03 When the god of the Israelites sent a plague of frogs 00:16:06.06\00:16:10.27 it was another clear message that he was in charge 00:16:10.30\00:16:13.90 of the cycle of life and of the gods of the Egyptians. 00:16:13.94\00:16:17.37 Over and over again, God showed the Egyptians the futility 00:16:17.41\00:16:23.18 of their religious ideology by demonstrating to them 00:16:23.21\00:16:26.88 that what he had to offer them was so much better. 00:16:26.92\00:16:30.79 From the shores of the Red Sea the Israelites moved forward 00:16:36.89\00:16:41.23 into the wilderness where God provided for them yet again 00:16:41.26\00:16:46.17 in a remarkable way. Biblical scholars estimate that the 00:16:46.20\00:16:50.94 Israelites numbered between two and a half and three million 00:16:50.97\00:16:54.94 men, women, and children. 00:16:54.98\00:16:56.38 Now such a massive group of people couldn't be 00:16:56.41\00:17:00.08 supported by the meager resources available 00:17:00.12\00:17:02.98 in the wilderness and the people realized this. 00:17:03.02\00:17:06.72 And it wasn't long before they began to allowed their fears 00:17:06.76\00:17:09.76 for the future to overwhelm them, turning on Moses and Aaron 00:17:09.79\00:17:15.06 they cried out... 00:17:15.10\00:17:16.43 Food was running low and parents began to worry over how they 00:17:33.62\00:17:38.25 would provide food for their little ones. 00:17:38.29\00:17:40.49 In the midst of their stress and panic, they forgot how 00:17:40.52\00:17:44.33 God had led them in the past, it had been about eight 00:17:44.36\00:17:48.10 to ten weeks since the Israelites had left Egypt. 00:17:48.13\00:17:51.03 During that period of time they had seen God providing 00:17:51.07\00:17:55.00 for their needs, the most amazing manifestation of God's 00:17:55.04\00:17:58.97 power being the defeat of the Egyptians at the Red Sea. 00:17:59.01\00:18:02.58 But now faced with a potential food shortage, 00:18:02.61\00:18:06.85 they began to wish themselves back in bondage again 00:18:06.88\00:18:10.62 because according to their reasoning at least the slaves 00:18:10.65\00:18:14.39 they had food. Their faith in God was waning 00:18:14.42\00:18:18.36 in the face of an unknown future. 00:18:18.39\00:18:21.03 But instead of rebuking them, God treated them with love 00:18:21.06\00:18:25.33 and patience, He provided food for them in the desert 00:18:25.40\00:18:29.64 by raining bread from heaven. 00:18:29.67\00:18:31.47 Woven into this miracle was a special lesson 00:18:31.51\00:18:35.91 communicating through Moses, God instructed the Israelites 00:18:35.94\00:18:40.08 to gather bread daily for five days and then on the sixth day 00:18:40.12\00:18:44.72 of the week, they were to gather a double portion of food, 00:18:44.75\00:18:48.39 why? Well, God explained His reasons to them in 00:18:48.42\00:18:53.09 Exodus 16: verses 22 to 26... 00:18:53.13\00:18:57.03 The Israelites called the bread "manna" and God used the manna 00:19:10.88\00:19:15.92 and the Sabbath to teach them three very important lessons. 00:19:15.95\00:19:20.16 First, God was reminding them of the Sabbath rest 00:19:20.19\00:19:24.53 which He had created and established way back at 00:19:24.56\00:19:27.80 creation in the Garden of Eden right back at the 00:19:27.83\00:19:31.23 beginning of the world, Genesis chapter 2: verses 2 and 3 says. 00:19:31.27\00:19:35.20 And here's the second lesson. God used the Sabbath to remind 00:19:54.76\00:20:00.26 the Israelites that He would supply their needs. 00:20:00.30\00:20:03.73 The Sabbath is a sign of God's power as creator. 00:20:03.77\00:20:07.27 And so re-establishing the Sabbath within the context 00:20:07.30\00:20:11.27 of the manna was a reminder that God was able to meet 00:20:11.31\00:20:15.28 the needs of all those who relied on Him. 00:20:15.31\00:20:18.18 And third lesson. The Sabbath provided the Israelites 00:20:18.21\00:20:22.55 with an opportunity to renew their relationships with God 00:20:22.58\00:20:26.65 and with each other. 00:20:26.69\00:20:28.32 For 400 years they had been enslaved by the Egyptians. 00:20:28.36\00:20:32.19 Slaves, especially in the ancient world didn't have the 00:20:32.23\00:20:36.87 luxury of a day off, the Israelites would have worked 00:20:36.90\00:20:40.27 seven days a week and the constant round of grueling 00:20:40.30\00:20:43.84 labor would have taken it's toll on their physical 00:20:43.87\00:20:46.88 mental and spiritual well-being. 00:20:46.91\00:20:49.68 The re-introduction of the Sabbath into their weekly 00:20:49.71\00:20:53.52 routine was a means of providing them with much-needed time 00:20:53.55\00:20:56.99 to build their relationship with God and with each other. 00:20:57.02\00:21:01.16 From the great wilderness named sin the Israelites moved into 00:21:01.19\00:21:08.26 the Sinai desert and set up their tents in the shadow of 00:21:08.30\00:21:11.53 Mt. Sinai, it was here that God himself came down 00:21:11.57\00:21:15.47 onto the mountain and gave them His law. 00:21:15.50\00:21:18.54 God invited Moses to come up to the summit of the mountain 00:21:18.57\00:21:22.84 in order to receive the law the Ten Commandments. 00:21:22.88\00:21:26.08 This was one of the most significant events in Moses' 00:21:26.11\00:21:29.78 life and set him apart as one of the greatest prophets 00:21:29.82\00:21:33.89 in history. God Himself wrote the Ten Commandments 00:21:33.92\00:21:38.06 with His own finger on two tablets of stone, 00:21:38.09\00:21:41.16 and when He gave them to Moses, He introduced them by saying... 00:21:41.20\00:21:45.63 In saying this, God reminded Moses and the children of Israel 00:21:51.57\00:21:56.48 that the very purpose of the Ten Commandments was to 00:21:56.51\00:22:00.52 make people free and keep them free. 00:22:00.55\00:22:03.18 God wanted them to understand that these ten principles 00:22:03.22\00:22:07.76 are the foundation of a solid, safe, peaceful, and productive 00:22:07.79\00:22:12.56 society and that's because they are all about relationships. 00:22:12.59\00:22:16.70 The first four of the Ten Commandments deal with 00:22:16.73\00:22:20.30 our relationship to God while the other six 00:22:20.34\00:22:23.77 deal with our relationships with people, 00:22:23.81\00:22:26.37 but all ten are about relationships. 00:22:26.41\00:22:29.68 You see God's law is a revelation of His heart 00:22:29.71\00:22:34.12 it teaches us how to love Him and how to love other people. 00:22:34.15\00:22:38.72 The law of God reveals the foundational principles 00:22:38.75\00:22:42.99 we need to build healthy human relationships 00:22:43.02\00:22:46.59 as well as a thriving spiritual relationship with God. 00:22:46.63\00:22:50.43 From Sinai God continued to lead the Israelites through the 00:22:50.47\00:22:55.47 wilderness on their journey toward Canaan, 00:22:55.50\00:22:58.17 throughout their journey, God allowed them to experience 00:22:58.21\00:23:02.28 challenges and trials. Every challenge that they faced 00:23:02.31\00:23:06.35 was meant to strengthen their faith in God but instead 00:23:06.38\00:23:10.55 it only served to produce complaining and strife 00:23:10.59\00:23:14.09 and they took out the brunt of their frustration on Moses. 00:23:14.12\00:23:18.49 As their visible leader Moses was the easy target, 00:23:18.53\00:23:22.86 whenever the Israelites were faced with a challenge 00:23:22.90\00:23:25.67 they accused Moses of rescuing them from slavery in Egypt 00:23:25.70\00:23:30.07 in order to kill them in the wilderness. 00:23:30.11\00:23:32.61 There was mutiny against his leadership, jealousy, 00:23:32.64\00:23:36.95 and back-biting spearheaded by his own siblings 00:23:36.98\00:23:40.18 and even the occasional threat to kill him or appoint a 00:23:40.22\00:23:44.49 new leader and head back into Egypt and slavery. 00:23:44.52\00:23:48.06 Through it all Moses displayed an unprecedented amount of 00:23:48.09\00:23:52.96 patience despite their ingratitude, complaining and 00:23:52.99\00:23:57.00 threats, Moses was their biggest advocate and 00:23:57.03\00:24:00.70 champion. After 40 years of wandering in the wilderness 00:24:00.74\00:24:04.74 caring for the needs of a rag-tag group of ex-slaves, 00:24:04.77\00:24:08.18 who struggled, bickered, and complained, Moses finally 00:24:08.21\00:24:12.51 led them to the borders of the Promised Land. 00:24:12.55\00:24:14.98 And his story and earthly journey end on a high note. 00:24:15.02\00:24:19.85 He died atop Mt. Nebo when he was 120 years old 00:24:19.89\00:24:24.16 overlooking the Promised Land and as we look back 00:24:24.19\00:24:28.06 over his life, I think we can safely say that few human beings 00:24:28.10\00:24:33.00 have experienced God on this earth to the extent that 00:24:33.13\00:24:36.74 Moses did from meeting God in the burning bush, 00:24:36.77\00:24:39.97 to parting the Red Sea, to watching manna fall from heaven 00:24:40.01\00:24:44.45 to meeting God on top of Mt. Sinai in the thick cloud. 00:24:44.48\00:24:48.35 Moses spent a lot of time in God's presence, 00:24:48.38\00:24:52.32 he developed a close relationship with God. 00:24:52.35\00:24:55.32 His life may have been marked by challenge and sacrifice 00:24:55.36\00:24:59.43 but more importantly, it was shaped by an intimate 00:24:59.46\00:25:03.37 relationship with God. 00:25:03.40\00:25:04.97 When a new obstacle would arise, Moses turned first to God 00:25:05.00\00:25:10.27 for guidance and provision, his hardships challenged his 00:25:10.31\00:25:14.18 trust in himself and strengthened his faith 00:25:14.21\00:25:17.05 in the Lord, his problems and hardships drew him 00:25:17.08\00:25:21.12 closer to God. 00:25:21.15\00:25:22.55 And that's true for us today as well, the Bible teaches that 00:25:22.58\00:25:26.76 our trials and troubles can also produce a closer and 00:25:26.79\00:25:31.09 stronger relationship with God, we can lean on Him 00:25:31.13\00:25:35.10 and grow closer to Him. 00:25:35.13\00:25:36.87 As Moses grew closer to God he transformed from 00:25:36.90\00:25:41.47 a privileged son of Pharaoh to a humble man 00:25:41.50\00:25:45.31 leading God's people out of Egypt. 00:25:45.34\00:25:48.31 Moses chose to commit his life and future into the hands of God 00:25:48.34\00:25:53.62 and lived a life of patient obedience to God's will. 00:25:53.65\00:25:57.59 There are times in life when following God is the last thing 00:25:57.62\00:26:02.66 we want to do, we would rather forge our own path, 00:26:02.69\00:26:06.59 go our own way, but Moses' life demonstrates that a life 00:26:06.63\00:26:12.37 of obedience to God's will is a life well lived 00:26:12.40\00:26:16.94 and not only is it a life well lived, 00:26:16.97\00:26:19.07 but it's also a life that receives an eternal reward. 00:26:19.11\00:26:23.71 God has a city prepared for all those who choose to 00:26:23.75\00:26:29.88 love and obey Him. A city that is eternal where there is 00:26:29.92\00:26:33.96 no more pain or suffering, or tears. 00:26:33.99\00:26:37.09 If you would like to find out more about God's plan for us 00:26:37.13\00:26:40.73 then I'd like to recommend the free gift we have for all our 00:26:40.76\00:26:45.37 Incredible Journey viewer's today. 00:26:45.40\00:26:48.17 It's the booklet Learning to Be Led By God. 00:26:48.20\00:26:51.91 This booklet is our gift to you and is absolutely free, 00:26:51.94\00:26:55.51 I guarantee there are no costs or obligations whatsoever. 00:26:55.54\00:26:59.31 So, make the most of this wonderful opportunity to receive 00:26:59.35\00:27:04.02 your free gift today. 00:27:04.05\00:27:05.89 Phone or text 0436.333.555 in Australia, or 020.422.2042 00:27:05.92\00:27:16.80 in New Zealand, or 770.800.0266 in the United States, 00:27:16.83\00:27:23.61 or visit our website tij.tv, or simply scan the QR Code 00:27:23.64\00:27:29.78 on your screen and we'll send you today's free offer 00:27:29.81\00:27:33.05 totally free of charge and with no obligation. 00:27:33.08\00:27:36.15 You can also write to us at the addresses on your screen 00:27:36.18\00:27:40.06 or email us at info@tij.tv.
