Moses, Born a slave, but destined to rule over 00:00:23.08\00:00:28.09 Egypt's Empire, rescued from the river, adopted by a princess 00:00:28.12\00:00:33.73 and raised to be Pharaoh instead leads a nation of slaves to 00:00:33.76\00:00:40.34 freedom and changes the world. 00:00:40.37\00:00:43.37 Moses, a hero for our time. 00:00:43.41\00:00:48.31 [Chanting] 00:00:53.21\00:00:57.82 A fugitive on the run with nothing but the clothes 00:00:57.85\00:01:01.32 on his back, Moses was in serious trouble. 00:01:01.36\00:01:06.13 The prince of Egypt now found himself an outcast and a pauper 00:01:06.16\00:01:13.07 as he stumbled through the desert kilometer after weary 00:01:13.10\00:01:17.57 kilometer melted away separating him not only from the 00:01:17.61\00:01:22.08 adoptive grandfather who now hunted him but also from 00:01:22.11\00:01:26.08 the people he loved, his own people, the Hebrews. 00:01:26.11\00:01:30.02 Before an unfortunate series of events branded Moses 00:01:30.05\00:01:34.62 a traitor and a criminal, he was a man who had a clear vision 00:01:34.66\00:01:38.46 and a plan, he saw the oppression and slavery 00:01:38.49\00:01:42.13 of his people and wanted to do something to alleviate their 00:01:42.16\00:01:46.07 suffering but his plans fell to pieces and he found himself 00:01:46.10\00:01:51.91 adrift in the desert with no plans at all. 00:01:51.94\00:01:54.81 Where could he go? What could he do? 00:01:54.84\00:01:58.15 Stripped of his sense of purpose and of his identity as a member 00:01:58.18\00:02:02.95 of the Egyptian royal family the only thing Moses had left 00:02:02.98\00:02:07.02 was his identity as a descendant of Abraham and a follower 00:02:07.06\00:02:11.56 of Abraham's God. 00:02:11.59\00:02:12.99 Lacking a plan, Moses wandered in the wilderness till he 00:02:13.03\00:02:18.10 settled down to rest beside a well in Midian. 00:02:18.13\00:02:20.67 As it happened, the well was a watering hole for a group of 00:02:20.70\00:02:25.41 young sisters and some rough shepherds. 00:02:25.44\00:02:27.94 The shepherds were a bunch of bullies intent on chasing 00:02:27.98\00:02:32.51 off the young women and refusing them access to the well 00:02:32.55\00:02:36.12 to water their animals 00:02:36.15\00:02:37.89 Moses quickly rushed to the defense of the young women 00:02:37.92\00:02:41.76 chasing off the shepherds, he rescued the sisters and 00:02:41.79\00:02:46.06 helped them to water their animals, 00:02:46.09\00:02:48.36 his simple act of kindness earned him the gratitude 00:02:48.40\00:02:51.87 of the girl's father Jethro who was not only a generous man 00:02:51.90\00:02:56.40 but a man who worshiped the same God Moses did. 00:02:56.44\00:03:00.48 Suddenly the stageless fugitive wandering in the desert 00:03:00.51\00:03:04.61 had a home and a job. But what did the future have in store 00:03:04.65\00:03:09.08 for Moses, was he destined to live his life 00:03:09.12\00:03:13.15 in the wilds of Midian? 00:03:13.19\00:03:14.69 Join us this week as we continue on our Incredible Journey 00:03:14.72\00:03:19.86 through the life of Moses, one of the greatest men 00:03:19.89\00:03:23.50 who have ever lived. 00:03:23.53\00:03:25.80 During the reign of the Pharaohs of 18th Dynasty, the Hebrews 00:03:55.26\00:04:00.14 or children of Israel were slaves in Egypt, their lives 00:04:00.17\00:04:05.47 were hard but they became a nightmare when 00:04:05.51\00:04:08.94 Pharaoh Thutmose I issued a devastating decree. 00:04:09.91\00:04:13.52 In an attempt to cull the number rising of Hebrew slaves 00:04:13.55\00:04:17.82 who in Pharaoh's mind posed a serious threat to 00:04:17.85\00:04:21.22 Egyptian National Security. 00:04:21.26\00:04:23.06 The Pharaoh decreed that all Hebrew baby boys 00:04:23.09\00:04:27.26 were to be thrown into the Nile River, 00:04:27.30\00:04:29.73 defying the Pharaoh's decree, Jochebed, a Hebrew slave 00:04:29.76\00:04:34.80 who had recently given birth to a baby boy crafted a 00:04:34.84\00:04:38.91 reed basket, covered it with pitch to make it waterproof 00:04:38.94\00:04:42.64 and hid her baby in the bulrushes on the banks of the 00:04:42.68\00:04:46.35 Nile. The baby was discovered by Pharaoh Thutmose I 00:04:46.38\00:04:52.85 daughter Hatshepsut who read the situation in a heartbeat 00:04:52.89\00:04:57.46 when she saw the child cradled in a basket, she adopted him 00:04:57.49\00:05:02.20 as her own son and handed him over to his birth mother 00:05:02.23\00:05:05.93 to care for him until he was old enough to come to the 00:05:05.97\00:05:09.20 palace. Hatshepsut named the baby Moses because she had 00:05:09.24\00:05:14.48 drawn him out of the river. 00:05:14.51\00:05:16.11 In fact it is possible she believed that he was a gift 00:05:16.14\00:05:20.65 from the gods she worshiped because Egyptians venerated 00:05:20.68\00:05:24.29 the Nile as a deity and the baby was brought to her 00:05:24.32\00:05:27.82 by the river. 00:05:27.86\00:05:29.59 Moses grew up surrounded by the opulence and wealth 00:05:36.16\00:05:39.30 of one of the most powerful empires of the ancient world. 00:05:39.33\00:05:43.07 In fact, it's hard for us in this modern world to grasp 00:05:43.10\00:05:47.91 the extent of the wealth and power of ancient Egypt. 00:05:47.94\00:05:51.71 One way we can fathom it is through archeological 00:05:51.75\00:05:56.75 discoveries that have uncovered the tombs of the Pharaohs in 00:05:56.79\00:06:00.06 The Valley of the Kings. 00:06:00.09\00:06:01.62 One such discovery is the tomb of Tutankhamun which was 00:06:01.66\00:06:07.26 discovered in 1922. Tutankhamun was the son of Akhenaton 00:06:07.30\00:06:12.90 and was one of the last kings of the 18th Dynasty. 00:06:12.93\00:06:16.24 His tomb was one of the few chiefly intact tombs 00:06:16.27\00:06:20.41 discovered in The Valley of the Kings and was filled with 00:06:20.44\00:06:23.45 thousands of precious artifacts. 00:06:23.48\00:06:25.65 The tomb was a veritable cache of buried treasure. 00:06:25.68\00:06:30.12 The most significant find inside the tomb was the mummy 00:06:30.15\00:06:34.49 of the young king which was encased in a nest of 00:06:34.52\00:06:37.56 three coffins. The innermost coffin was made of solid gold, 00:06:37.59\00:06:42.40 while the two outer ones were wood overlaid with gold. 00:06:42.43\00:06:46.70 Over the head of the kings mummy was a breathtaking 00:06:46.74\00:06:50.91 gold portrait Death Mask, an assortment of jewelry 00:06:50.94\00:06:55.38 and amulets also laid on the mummified remains. 00:06:55.41\00:06:58.78 The coffins and the stone sarcophagus were surrounded 00:06:58.81\00:07:03.18 by four wooden shrines covered with text and overlaid 00:07:03.22\00:07:07.96 with pure gold. The rest of the tomb was filled with a 00:07:07.99\00:07:12.63 wide array of furniture, chariots, weapons, and statuary 00:07:12.66\00:07:17.23 all inside the tomb of a dead pharaoh. 00:07:17.27\00:07:21.17 A small glimpse into the kind of lavish lifestyle that the 00:07:21.20\00:07:26.07 Pharaoh's of Egypt led.. 00:07:26.11\00:07:27.74 Archeologists have also discovered the tomb of 00:07:27.78\00:07:31.65 Thutmose III who was co-regent with Moses' adopted royal mother 00:07:31.68\00:07:36.58 Hatshepsut. When Thutmose the third's father died 00:07:36.62\00:07:40.39 he was just a toddler and his step-mother Hatshepsut 00:07:40.42\00:07:44.23 ruled as co-regent. She reigned as co-regent but beside him 00:07:44.26\00:07:49.23 until her death and was the first female to rule over Egypt. 00:07:49.26\00:07:54.00 After Hatshepsut's death Thutmose the third became 00:07:54.04\00:07:58.07 sovereign over Egypt and ruled for a period of 54 years. 00:07:58.11\00:08:01.98 Thutmose the third's tomb is one of the largest tombs 00:08:02.01\00:08:06.05 in The Valley of the Kings, the tomb has an elaborate 00:08:06.08\00:08:10.05 labyrinth series of hallways that lead into the 00:08:10.09\00:08:13.19 burial chamber where the rose stone sarcophagus of the king 00:08:13.22\00:08:17.66 rests. Moses was surrounded by all of this 00:08:17.69\00:08:22.13 incredible architecture and wealth 00:08:22.16\00:08:24.37 and it would have taken a lot of conviction 00:08:24.40\00:08:27.24 on his part to choose to walk away from it in order 00:08:27.27\00:08:31.54 to follow the god of his fathers and join a desperate group of 00:08:31.57\00:08:35.64 despised slaves. 00:08:35.68\00:08:37.35 But the Bible describes exactly what Moses did, 00:08:37.38\00:08:41.05 Hebrews 11: 24, 25 says... 00:08:41.08\00:08:46.02 Moses' faith in the unseen invisible God of his father's 00:09:07.38\00:09:11.98 compelled him to choose a different path. 00:09:12.01\00:09:15.52 Though Egypt offered him wealth, power, and influence, 00:09:15.55\00:09:19.65 he understood that the offering was fleeting at best, 00:09:19.69\00:09:24.39 Moses recognized that what God offered him was eternal. 00:09:24.43\00:09:30.30 Though faced with a choice of a nation of slaves 00:09:30.33\00:09:33.84 and the most powerful nation on earth, he chose the former 00:09:33.87\00:09:38.04 his choice cost him the affluence of Egypt 00:09:38.07\00:09:41.61 perhaps even the throne. 00:09:41.64\00:09:44.18 Leaving the royal palaces of Egypt behind, 00:09:51.72\00:09:54.19 Moses started a new nomadic life for himself 00:09:54.22\00:09:57.93 within the family of Jethro. 00:09:57.96\00:10:00.20 He became a shepherd living in tents, tending flocks 00:10:00.23\00:10:04.27 in the rugged mountainous region near the Gulf of Aqaba. 00:10:04.30\00:10:07.97 It was in Midian that Moses married Zipporah 00:10:08.00\00:10:11.81 the daughter of his generous benefactor and employer 00:10:11.84\00:10:15.01 and they had two sons. His life in Midian was a far cry from 00:10:15.04\00:10:20.12 the one he had led in Egypt. It was also in Midian that Moses 00:10:20.15\00:10:24.95 under the inspiration of divine guidance commenced writing 00:10:24.99\00:10:29.72 the first five books of the Bible. 00:10:29.76\00:10:31.79 It would be easy to dismiss Moses' time in the wilderness 00:10:31.83\00:10:36.67 as nothing more than an inconvenient interlude 00:10:36.70\00:10:40.27 on the road to something greater. 00:10:40.30\00:10:42.20 After all, Moses is not known for his time in the wilderness 00:10:42.30\00:10:46.68 he's known for liberating and leading the nation of Israel. 00:10:46.71\00:10:50.75 But the truth is that Moses' time in the wilderness 00:10:50.78\00:10:55.65 shaped him into the kind of leader he needed to be 00:10:55.68\00:10:59.65 in order to lead a rag-tag group of slaves out of bondage 00:10:59.69\00:11:04.19 and into the land God had promised them. 00:11:04.23\00:11:06.83 While tending sheep in the wilderness Moses learned 00:11:06.86\00:11:10.90 the valuable lessons of patience and gentleness. 00:11:10.93\00:11:14.34 Characteristics that helped him to be the patient and wise 00:11:14.37\00:11:18.91 leader who helped Israel navigate numerous crises. 00:11:18.94\00:11:23.14 But his time in the wilderness also helped him to grow 00:11:28.45\00:11:32.09 spiritually communing with God in the wilds of Midian, 00:11:32.12\00:11:37.29 Moses learned the important lesson of relying on divine 00:11:37.33\00:11:41.76 help. As a young Egyptian prince it was easy for Moses to see 00:11:41.80\00:11:47.14 himself as the answer to the problems these people faced. 00:11:47.17\00:11:50.81 As a man haunted by regret fleeing his past mistakes 00:11:50.84\00:11:55.98 Moses learned about God's mercy and grace. 00:11:56.01\00:11:59.91 Sometimes we face wilderness moments in our own lives 00:11:59.95\00:12:04.75 times when our lives seem barren and directionless when life 00:12:04.79\00:12:09.22 seems to have lost meaning and purpose, 00:12:09.26\00:12:11.59 when nothing seems to make sense or go right. 00:12:11.63\00:12:15.13 But the truth is, when we give our lives to God, 00:12:15.16\00:12:19.03 even our most barren experiences can work out for our best good. 00:12:19.07\00:12:24.47 In Romans 8:28 the Apostle Paul writes... 00:12:24.51\00:12:29.48 The Bible promises that all things work together for our 00:12:39.29\00:12:44.16 good not just the moments we celebrate but also the moments 00:12:44.19\00:12:48.30 that generate the most pain and despair. 00:12:48.33\00:12:51.07 Placing your life in God's hands guarantees that not 00:12:51.10\00:12:56.10 none of your pain will be wasted because there is hope 00:12:56.14\00:12:59.67 even in the trials of life when we place our lives 00:12:59.71\00:13:03.31 in God's hands. 00:13:03.35\00:13:05.35 But Moses' time in the wilderness didn't last forever 00:13:05.38\00:13:09.18 forty years after he first arrived, God called him 00:13:09.22\00:13:13.52 out of hiding and gave him a special mission. 00:13:13.56\00:13:16.59 A mission that reflected the original vision he had 00:13:16.62\00:13:20.33 for both himself and his people. 00:13:20.36\00:13:22.73 It was a day like a thousand others, awake at dawn 00:13:22.76\00:13:27.50 and chasing after sheep, but on this day while 00:13:27.54\00:13:31.24 chasing after his sheep, Moses encountered something 00:13:31.27\00:13:35.11 that stopped him in his tracks. 00:13:35.14\00:13:37.78 While navigating the rocky terrain of the wilderness 00:13:37.81\00:13:42.05 Moses stumbled on a site that caught his attention 00:13:42.08\00:13:46.15 and set his pulse pounding. 00:13:46.19\00:13:48.26 He saw a bush crackling with flames but not consumed 00:13:48.29\00:13:52.56 by their intense heat, forgetting all about his 00:13:52.59\00:13:56.10 flock of sheep Moses paused to take in the sight 00:13:56.13\00:13:59.80 curious and disbelieving. How could a bush be 00:13:59.83\00:14:03.61 so thoroughly engulfed in flames and yet not be burnt 00:14:03.64\00:14:07.94 and charred beyond recognition? 00:14:07.98\00:14:09.84 While he marveled at the site, he heard a voice 00:14:09.88\00:14:14.55 the voice of God spoke to him from the bush. 00:14:14.58\00:14:17.92 At first all Moses heard was his name being repeated 00:14:17.95\00:14:22.62 to which he responded, here I am, and then God said. 00:14:22.66\00:14:27.93 Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet 00:14:27.96\00:14:33.54 for the place where you stand is holy ground. 00:14:33.57\00:14:36.37 I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, 00:14:36.40\00:14:40.78 the God of Isaac and the God or Jacob. 00:14:40.81\00:14:44.25 Terrified Moses immediately complied... 00:14:44.28\00:14:48.75 When Moses heard these words, his terror faded to shock. 00:15:07.34\00:15:12.67 He asked, shrinking from the enormous responsibility 00:15:20.12\00:15:23.92 of such a task. 00:15:23.95\00:15:25.82 Forty years before when he was young and a lot more 00:15:25.85\00:15:29.92 self-confident Moses was ready to take on the armies of Egypt 00:15:29.96\00:15:34.96 and deliver his people in a spectacular military coup. 00:15:35.00\00:15:39.10 Age and experience had humbled him and tempered his confidence 00:15:39.13\00:15:44.57 but God persisted. As a pledge of his presence and support, 00:15:44.61\00:15:49.81 God performed miracles before Moses. 00:15:49.84\00:15:53.01 First, He turned Moses' staff into a serpent, a snake, 00:15:53.05\00:15:58.45 and then back again into an inanimate piece of wood. 00:15:58.49\00:16:02.06 Next, He made Moses' hand leprous before restoring it 00:16:02.09\00:16:07.03 back to health again. 00:16:07.06\00:16:08.40 But still Moses hesitated under the weight of the 00:16:08.43\00:16:13.57 responsibility. Finally after a good deal of hesitating and 00:16:13.60\00:16:18.91 excuse-making Moses agreed to go trusting completely in God's 00:16:18.94\00:16:24.05 provision and power to carry him and the Hebrews through the 00:16:24.08\00:16:27.88 challenges that lay ahead. 00:16:27.92\00:16:29.78 On his way into Egypt God sent his brother Aaron 00:16:29.82\00:16:34.72 to meet him in the wilderness. Moses was terrified of speaking 00:16:34.76\00:16:39.63 before Pharaoh and so as a concession God agreed 00:16:39.66\00:16:44.27 to allow Aaron to act as his spokesman. 00:16:44.30\00:16:47.34 When Moses entered Egypt a thousand memories 00:17:00.68\00:17:04.09 would have come flooding into his mind 00:17:04.12\00:17:06.25 there would have been a lot that he recognized 00:17:06.29\00:17:09.02 but there also would have been a lot that had changed. 00:17:09.06\00:17:11.33 So, what had taken place in Egypt during the 40 years 00:17:11.36\00:17:16.40 that Moses was in the wilderness? 00:17:16.43\00:17:18.37 Well, Moses's adoptive mother Hatshepsut had reigned as 00:17:18.40\00:17:23.30 go-regent for a period of time alongside her stepson Thutmose 00:17:23.34\00:17:27.88 III who was only two or three years old when he ascended the 00:17:27.91\00:17:32.61 throne. However when Thutmose came of age, Hatshepsut 00:17:32.65\00:17:37.39 continued to rule as co-regent cementing her place as the first 00:17:37.42\00:17:41.96 female Pharaoh of Egypt. And in an attempt to appease the young 00:17:41.99\00:17:46.49 king she made him commander of the Egyptian armies. 00:17:46.53\00:17:49.90 While Thutmose III was actively working on expanding 00:17:49.93\00:17:54.44 the Egyptian Empire, Hatshepsut remained in Egypt and governed 00:17:54.47\00:17:59.01 the affairs of state. 00:17:59.04\00:18:00.38 During his lifetime Thutmose III conducted 17 military campaigns 00:18:00.41\00:18:06.72 in Canaan alone. 00:18:06.75\00:18:08.25 Now, one scholarly perspective on Thutmose III's numerous 00:18:08.28\00:18:13.36 campaigns into Canaan is that he may have been 00:18:13.39\00:18:16.86 searching for someone he knew. 00:18:16.89\00:18:18.63 Though there are no conclusive answers to this question, 00:18:18.66\00:18:22.66 could it be that Thutmose III was looking for Moses the 00:18:22.70\00:18:28.57 fugitive prince? It's certainly an interesting idea to consider, 00:18:28.60\00:18:32.74 but whatever the case may have been, Thutmose III 00:18:32.77\00:18:37.01 was familiar with Canaan and the surrounding region. 00:18:37.05\00:18:40.28 When Moses came back to Egypt to deliver the Israelites 00:18:40.32\00:18:44.35 under God's direction his adoptive mother Hatshepsut 00:18:44.39\00:18:48.62 was dead and Thutmose III was Pharaoh. 00:18:48.66\00:18:52.29 Thutmose III reigned from 1504 to 1450 BC. 00:18:52.33\00:18:58.60 and is widely considered by scholars to have been 00:18:58.63\00:19:02.40 the military genius given the number of military campaigns 00:19:02.44\00:19:05.91 he engaged in during the years of his co-regency 00:19:05.94\00:19:09.44 with Hatshepsut. 00:19:09.48\00:19:10.88 In fact Thutmose III is often referred to as the 00:19:10.91\00:19:16.15 Napoleon of Egypt conquering 350 cities in the space of just 00:19:16.18\00:19:21.29 30 years. Much of Thutmose's military exploits including his 00:19:21.32\00:19:27.13 campaigns in Canaan are recorded on the walls of the 00:19:27.16\00:19:30.60 Temple of Karnak. 00:19:30.63\00:19:31.97 The Egypt that Moses was introduced to after a 40-year 00:19:33.57\00:19:40.31 absence in the wilderness was an International Super Power. 00:19:40.34\00:19:44.38 So it's no surprise then that Thutmose III was 00:19:44.41\00:19:49.32 less than agreeable to Moses' demand to set the Hebrews free 00:19:49.35\00:19:53.46 in fact he was strongly opposed to the idea. 00:19:53.49\00:19:57.56 When Moses and Aaron faced the warrior Pharaoh 00:19:57.59\00:20:01.13 and presented the command of God, Thutmose III bristled. 00:20:01.16\00:20:06.20 Exodus 5:2 records Pharaoh's initial response... 00:20:06.23\00:20:11.77 God had already warned Moses that he would not be welcomed 00:20:23.82\00:20:28.82 by the Egyptian monarch and God's predictions certainly 00:20:28.86\00:20:33.60 proved to be accurate. 00:20:33.63\00:20:34.96 Thutmose III obstinately refused to acknowledge God 00:20:35.00\00:20:40.20 and in so doing, he brought death and destruction 00:20:40.24\00:20:43.67 over his whole empire. 00:20:43.71\00:20:45.41 But God encouraged Moses to continue with his mission 00:20:45.44\00:20:49.91 no matter how bleak the circumstances seemed. 00:20:49.94\00:20:53.01 What followed was a parade of destructive plagues 00:21:06.73\00:21:11.37 that struck at the very heart of Egyptian ideology. 00:21:11.40\00:21:14.67 Like most empires of the ancient world Egyptian life 00:21:14.70\00:21:19.41 revolved around their religious beliefs. 00:21:19.44\00:21:22.08 Every facet of Egyptian life from birth to death 00:21:22.11\00:21:26.92 from the flooding of the Nile, to the growth of their crops 00:21:26.95\00:21:30.39 were regulated by a Pantheon of God's most of whom 00:21:30.42\00:21:34.89 took on the forms of animals. 00:21:34.92\00:21:39.53 The plagues of Egypt struck at the very heart of 00:21:39.56\00:21:42.96 Egyptian religion demonstrating 00:21:43.00\00:21:44.33 to the Egyptians in general and Pharaoh 00:21:44.37\00:21:48.27 in particular that their gods' were inferior to the 00:21:48.30\00:21:52.74 God of the Hebrews, their slaves. 00:21:52.77\00:21:55.28 The Nile was worshipped as a god, but the God of the Hebrews 00:21:55.31\00:21:59.95 demonstrated His power over the Nile by turning it 00:21:59.98\00:22:03.89 and all other water sources in Egypt to blood. 00:22:03.92\00:22:07.46 The Egyptian worshipped the world in many aspects 00:22:07.49\00:22:16.13 but the God of the Hebrews demonstrated His power 00:22:16.16\00:22:19.90 over nature by causing plagues to fall upon the Egyptians 00:22:19.93\00:22:23.71 in the form of natural disasters. 00:22:23.74\00:22:26.27 Frogs overran Egypt in a scourge, 00:22:26.31\00:22:30.25 ironically Egyptians worshipped frogs, then came lice, 00:22:30.28\00:22:35.82 flies, disease on the cattle, and painful boils, 00:22:35.85\00:22:40.46 then huge hailstones, swarms of locusts, and total darkness 00:22:40.49\00:22:45.86 that covered the land. 00:22:45.89\00:22:47.23 Egypt was brought to its knees and still Pharaoh 00:22:47.26\00:22:52.67 refused to let the Hebrews go. 00:22:52.70\00:22:55.90 With every plague Pharaoh relented and made 00:22:55.94\00:23:00.14 empty promises, he pleaded with Moses to pray to God 00:23:01.38\00:23:04.48 and asked that he restrain the plague, but the moment 00:23:04.51\00:23:08.05 the plague lifted Pharaoh's heart hardened. 00:23:08.08\00:23:10.99 Pharaoh refused to acknowledge the superiority and authority 00:23:11.02\00:23:16.16 of the God of the Hebrews, his pride just wouldn't yield. 00:23:16.19\00:23:20.73 Then the final plague was announced, 00:23:20.76\00:23:24.27 this plague would be more devastating than any other 00:23:24.30\00:23:28.44 that'd gone before it and it would reveal something 00:23:28.47\00:23:31.71 that both Egyptian and Hebrews needed to understand, 00:23:31.74\00:23:35.51 God's plan of salvation. 00:23:35.54\00:23:38.18 The final plague was absolutely devastating, 00:23:38.21\00:23:41.82 it was the death plague and involve the death of all 00:23:41.85\00:23:45.55 the firstborn in Egypt. 00:23:45.59\00:23:47.06 The only way to avoid it and save their lives was to take 00:23:47.09\00:23:51.63 the blood of a slain lamb and smear it on the lentil and 00:23:51.66\00:23:55.30 doorpost of a home. All the Hebrews were commanded 00:23:55.33\00:23:59.43 by God through Moses to do this, 00:23:59.47\00:24:01.77 and they were also commanded to prepare to leave Egypt. 00:24:01.80\00:24:05.81 Prior to their departure they were to eat the flesh of 00:24:05.84\00:24:10.11 the lamb they had killed together with unleavened cakes. 00:24:10.15\00:24:13.45 When the day came, every Hebrew household 00:24:13.48\00:24:17.59 sacrificed a lamb and then painted the blood on the 00:24:17.62\00:24:21.49 lentil and doorposts of their homes 00:24:21.52\00:24:23.56 then they went inside and waited for the angel of death 00:24:23.59\00:24:28.16 to pass over them. 00:24:28.20\00:24:30.07 It was here in Egypt that the first Passover was celebrated 00:24:33.47\00:24:37.97 that night the angel of death visited Egypt. Exodus 12:29 00:24:38.01\00:24:44.71 describes what happened that night in these words. 00:24:44.75\00:24:48.08 The heartrending cries of grief rang out through Egypt 00:24:55.32\00:25:02.30 but in the land of Goshen under the protection of the 00:25:02.33\00:25:05.57 Lamb's blood, not a single firstborn died. 00:25:05.60\00:25:08.90 The lesson is powerful in it's simplicity, 00:25:08.94\00:25:12.24 the first Passover lamb represented Jesus the Messiah 00:25:12.27\00:25:17.21 and His sacrifice for us on the cross. 00:25:17.25\00:25:19.95 Because of the blood of the lamb on that first Passover 00:25:19.98\00:25:23.99 countless lives were saved. 00:25:24.02\00:25:26.52 Because of the blood of Jesus countless people can have hope 00:25:26.55\00:25:31.29 for salvation and eternity. 00:25:31.33\00:25:33.83 In order for the Hebrews to truly escape the angel of death 00:25:33.86\00:25:38.77 on the fateful night in Goshen, they had to exercise their faith 00:25:38.80\00:25:43.20 in God, their faith led to action and their faith and 00:25:43.24\00:25:47.31 action combined, saved their lives and the lives of their 00:25:47.34\00:25:50.81 children. 00:25:50.85\00:25:54.88 If you'd like to find out more about Moses and other 00:25:54.92\00:25:59.52 Patriarch's in the Bible, then I'd like to recommend a 00:25:59.55\00:26:02.99 free gift we have for all out Incredible Journey viewers today 00:26:03.02\00:26:07.53 it's the book Patriarchs & Prophets, this outstanding book 00:26:07.56\00:26:12.60 is our gift to you and is absolutely free, 00:26:12.63\00:26:15.77 I guarantee there are no costs or obligations whatsoever. 00:26:15.80\00:26:19.74 So, make the most of this wonderful opportunity 00:26:19.77\00:26:23.35 to receive your free gift today. 00:26:23.38\00:26:26.78 Phone or text 0436.333.555 in Australia, or 020.422.2042 00:26:26.82\00:26:37.06 in New Zealand, or 770.800.0266 in the United States 00:26:37.09\00:26:43.83 or visit our website tij.tv or simply scan the QR Code 00:26:43.87\00:26:50.01 on your screen and we'll send you today's free offer 00:26:50.04\00:26:53.41 totally free of charge and with no obligations. 00:26:53.44\00:26:56.54 You can also write to us at GPO Box 274 Sydney NSW 2001 00:26:56.58\00:27:03.42 Australia, or PO Box 76673 in Manikau Auckland 00:27:03.45\00:27:09.36 2241 New Zealand, or PO Box 888717 Atlanta, Georgia 00:27:09.39\00:27:16.26 30356 USA.
