There are significant dates that are etched in our 00:00:24.02\00:00:27.56 collective memories and one of these dates is the 00:00:27.59\00:00:31.09 22nd of November, 1963. 00:00:31.13\00:00:33.83 At 12:30 p.m. a gunshot rang out that reverberated 00:00:33.86\00:00:39.00 right around the world. 00:00:39.03\00:00:40.37 Years after John F. Kennedy's assassination people are still 00:00:40.40\00:00:44.84 captivated by the event that happened here on Elm Street 00:00:44.87\00:00:48.04 in Dallas, TX. We're still fascinated by how the death of 00:00:48.08\00:00:53.65 one leader could impact a people, a culture, a nation, 00:00:53.68\00:00:58.22 a world. Join me as we look more closely into this historic event 00:00:58.25\00:01:04.16 and the message it carries today. 00:01:04.19\00:01:07.20 This is the window in the Texas school book depository that 00:01:35.86\00:01:40.10 changed history in a dramatic terrible way. 00:01:40.13\00:01:43.37 You get a clear view from here down to Elm Street 00:01:43.40\00:01:46.74 in the city of Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald took out a rifle 00:01:46.77\00:01:51.67 right here and pointed down toward the motorcade that was 00:01:51.71\00:01:55.54 bringing President John F. Kennedy through town. 00:01:55.58\00:01:58.25 Shots would ring out to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 00:01:58.28\00:02:05.85 1963 shots that would reverberate across the country 00:02:05.89\00:02:09.52 and around the world, Kennedy, would slump down in his 00:02:09.56\00:02:13.96 limousine. America's Camelot a time of hope and optimism 00:02:14.00\00:02:19.13 had suddenly ended. 00:02:19.17\00:02:21.14 Was there a conspiracy behind that fatal shooting? 00:02:21.17\00:02:26.01 hearers about Oswald accomplice's still spin around. 00:02:26.04\00:02:30.35 How did those two or three shots from way up there hit so 00:02:30.38\00:02:35.28 precisely, way down here in a moving vehicle? 00:02:35.32\00:02:39.09 Why did this very popular president have to die? 00:02:39.12\00:02:43.16 And what might have happened if his term continued? 00:02:43.19\00:02:46.70 This Dearly Plaza structure that housed the Texas school 00:02:52.37\00:02:56.67 book depository back in 1963 is now the Dallas County 00:02:56.71\00:03:01.44 Administration Building, Local Government offices 00:03:01.48\00:03:04.58 occupy most of these floors. 00:03:04.61\00:03:06.31 But on the 6th floor, there's a museum that pictures 00:03:06.35\00:03:09.75 details about that faithful day that ended Kennedy's 00:03:09.78\00:03:13.89 presidency, it also teaches his life and legacy. 00:03:13.92\00:03:18.23 Let's take a look. 00:03:18.26\00:03:19.66 What we try to do here is tell the basic history of 00:03:19.69\00:03:24.73 President Kennedy and who he came to Texas that day. 00:03:24.77\00:03:29.77 So this is what it was like, right out that open window 00:03:29.80\00:03:32.87 where the box is sitting on the ledge here in the front, 00:03:32.91\00:03:35.68 that's where the shots were fired from. 00:03:35.71\00:03:37.55 One of the stories we try to tell in the museum exhibits is 00:03:37.58\00:03:40.82 the Kennedy legacy. Now younger people who weren't around 00:03:40.85\00:03:44.09 when he was in office, they don't have as much interest 00:03:44.12\00:03:47.69 as the legacy but the legacy is really quite interesting. 00:03:47.72\00:03:50.33 I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving 00:03:50.36\00:03:54.96 the goal before this decade is out of landing a man on the moon 00:03:55.00\00:04:00.07 and returning him safely to the earth. 00:04:00.10\00:04:02.24 Although it started under President Eisenhower in the 50's 00:04:02.27\00:04:06.27 when President Kennedy took office, one of the first 00:04:06.31\00:04:08.98 directives he issued was we're going to land a man on the moon 00:04:09.01\00:04:13.11 in this decade and this was just a shocking revelation and 00:04:13.15\00:04:17.29 especially to the people in the business of supplying 00:04:17.32\00:04:19.82 people and equipment for that project because this was all 00:04:19.85\00:04:23.06 sudden big boost for them 00:04:23.09\00:04:24.59 And of course the U.S. Space Race says it yielded 00:04:24.63\00:04:28.00 unbelievable treasures. 00:04:28.03\00:04:33.60 The Cuban missile crisis was one of Kennedy's most daunting 00:04:33.64\00:04:39.94 challenges he didn't want nuclear warheads aiming at 00:04:39.97\00:04:43.98 his country so close in that Caribbean island. 00:04:44.01\00:04:47.48 So he sent out ships to block the Soviet Vessels that were 00:04:47.52\00:04:51.72 bringing rockets into Cuba, that was the closest the world 00:04:51.75\00:04:55.36 ever got to a devastating Nuclear War between superpowers. 00:04:55.39\00:05:00.33 It was the scariest of standoffs but Kennedy is cautious and 00:05:00.36\00:05:05.43 a sensible strategy would manage to send the Russian missiles 00:05:05.47\00:05:09.90 back home. 00:05:09.94\00:05:11.34 What it just indicates is what the President Kennedy was like. 00:05:11.37\00:05:15.34 There were extreme highs and extreme lows just in the few 00:05:15.38\00:05:18.85 short thousand days. 00:05:18.88\00:05:20.28 Yes, Kennedy would build quite the legacy, he'd become 00:05:20.32\00:05:25.92 one of the more Charismatic U. S. Presidents 00:05:25.95\00:05:28.49 but then came that fateful day. 00:05:28.52\00:05:31.19 Right here on Elm Street is where a few bullets interrupted 00:05:31.23\00:05:35.83 history very dramatically, let's look at just how it happened. 00:05:35.86\00:05:40.50 President Kennedy's motorcade tour through Dallas was planned 00:05:46.78\00:05:50.58 to give him maximum exposure to the crowds here 00:05:50.61\00:05:53.78 he rode in an uncovered limousine with his wife 00:05:53.82\00:05:56.95 Jacqueline, Texas governor John Connolly and Connolly's 00:05:56.99\00:06:00.56 wife Nellie. They were headed toward a luncheon with the 00:06:00.59\00:06:04.29 Silicon business leaders of Dallas, there were plenty of 00:06:04.33\00:06:07.76 enthusiastic people for this foursome to wave at of course. 00:06:07.80\00:06:11.37 Weaving through downtown, passing right here by 00:06:11.40\00:06:16.40 Dealey Plaza, they were only five minutes from their 00:06:16.44\00:06:19.97 destination. 00:06:20.01\00:06:22.24 Now this southern state of Texas hadn't been a big supporter of 00:06:22.28\00:06:30.62 Democratic presidents for some time, but Nellie Connolly 00:06:30.65\00:06:35.09 the First Lady of Texas turned around to Kennedy and said 00:06:35.12\00:06:38.96 Mr. President, you can't say Dallas doesn't love you 00:06:38.99\00:06:43.57 Kennedy smiled and nodded as people shouted greetings 00:06:43.60\00:06:48.64 but then came the rifle shots. 00:06:48.67\00:06:51.11 "Sirens and Screams" "People running" 00:07:24.21\00:07:30.61 This is the North Pergola it overlooks the spots where J.F.K. 00:07:31.48\00:07:36.08 was fatally wounded. Here at the one end you'll see 00:07:36.12\00:07:40.36 a pedestal, this is where Abraham's intruder stood. 00:07:40.39\00:07:47.60 He just wanted to catch Kennedy on his home movie camera. 00:07:47.63\00:07:50.67 But he would actually document this terrible assignation. 00:07:50.70\00:07:55.87 Abraham would record the most analyzed 26 seconds of film 00:07:55.90\00:08:01.74 in history. At first, those shots didn't really ring out 00:08:01.78\00:08:07.52 for most people on Elm Street. There was plenty of crowd noise 00:08:07.55\00:08:11.45 and car noise all around them, the shots didn't sound that 00:08:11.49\00:08:15.22 different from a firecracker or a vehicle backfiring 00:08:15.26\00:08:18.43 but then the crowd noticed some- thing awful. 00:08:18.46\00:08:21.80 Kennedy wasn't waving anymore he has slumped onto his wife's lap. 00:08:21.83\00:08:26.80 Governor Connelly was a World War II veteran, he recognized 00:08:26.84\00:08:32.44 the sound right away as a high powered rifle. 00:08:32.47\00:08:35.48 As Kennedy had waved with his right arm, a rifle bullet 00:08:35.51\00:08:41.18 penetrated his upper back, went through his right lung 00:08:41.22\00:08:44.45 and exited his throat. 00:08:44.49\00:08:46.02 Kennedy quickly clenched his fists in front of his face 00:08:46.05\00:08:49.69 leaning forward and to his left, Jacqueline put her arms 00:08:49.72\00:08:53.96 around him suddenly terrified. 00:08:54.00\00:08:56.30 A bullet struck Connelly in his upper right back, 00:08:56.33\00:08:59.50 was it the same one? That question would perplex 00:08:59.53\00:09:03.20 investigators for many years. 00:09:03.24\00:09:05.91 A second or third shot rang out, this was the fatal one 00:09:05.94\00:09:12.11 striking Kennedy's head. US Secret Service Agent 00:09:12.15\00:09:15.88 Clint Hill ran forward and tried to get on the limousine 00:09:15.92\00:09:19.82 to protect the president. Jacqueline actually crawled back 00:09:19.85\00:09:23.99 onto the rear trunk lid, perhaps to help him. 00:09:24.03\00:09:26.53 Mrs. Connelly thought she heard Jacqueline cry out, 00:09:26.56\00:09:30.67 they killed my husband, they killed my husband. 00:09:30.70\00:09:34.20 Those bullets came from here the 6th floor of the Texas 00:09:44.18\00:09:47.88 School Book Depository, this area has been preserved 00:09:47.92\00:09:51.99 to look just like it did in 1963. 00:09:52.02\00:09:54.76 Lee Harvey Oswald had stepped over to the window after 00:09:54.79\00:09:59.36 locking the door behind him. 00:09:59.39\00:10:01.13 He held a Carcano Rifle with a scope so he could zero in 00:10:01.16\00:10:05.33 on a target in the distance. 00:10:05.37\00:10:06.97 In October of 1963, Oswald had come up from the city 00:10:07.00\00:10:13.74 of New Orleans where he grew up 00:10:13.78\00:10:15.34 and he got a job here at the book depository. 00:10:15.41\00:10:18.28 Days before Kennedy's arrival newspapers were describing 00:10:18.31\00:10:22.85 the route of the presidential motorcade, it would pass here. 00:10:22.88\00:10:27.46 On Friday morning Oswald arrived at his workplace with a 00:10:27.49\00:10:32.19 big paper bag, he'd left his money behind and his 00:10:32.23\00:10:35.76 wedding ring a co-worker would spot him here on the 6th floor 00:10:35.80\00:10:40.17 at 11:55 a.m., 35 minutes before the assassination. 00:10:40.20\00:10:45.47 Lee Harvey Oswald joined the Marine Corps as a teenager 00:10:45.51\00:10:51.48 going through their intense training, he knows how to handle 00:10:51.51\00:10:55.52 a rifle very well, it was here at the South East corner window 00:10:55.55\00:11:00.42 that rifle shots would ring out that penetrated a governor, 00:11:00.46\00:11:04.23 a president, and US history. 00:11:04.26\00:11:06.90 Oswald would quickly hide from the window in here and then 00:11:06.93\00:11:12.23 cover his rifle under some boxes then he went down to the 00:11:12.27\00:11:16.17 2nd floor using the rear stairwell. 00:11:16.20\00:11:18.64 In the Luncheon Room, he ran into a Police Officer, 00:11:18.67\00:11:21.84 the hunt was already on for who had fired those deadly 00:11:21.88\00:11:26.61 rifle shots. But Oswald's supervisor had identified him 00:11:26.65\00:11:30.89 as an employee so the officer let him pass through. 00:11:30.92\00:11:33.96 Later, people recalled seeing Oswald seeming very calm 00:11:33.99\00:11:39.09 with a soft drink in his hands. 00:11:39.13\00:11:41.10 With the president lying on the First Lady's lap, the motorcade 00:11:55.88\00:11:59.88 sped toward Parkland Hospital. Oswald would go out of the 00:11:59.91\00:12:08.99 front staircase just before police sealed it off. 00:12:09.02\00:12:12.49 A little later he was walking down a sidewalk in the Oak Cliff 00:12:12.53\00:12:18.23 Neighborhood, police officer J.D. Tippet was driving by 00:12:18.27\00:12:22.74 listening to urgent messages about the assassination. 00:12:22.77\00:12:25.74 At this point Oswald's supervisor had pointed out 00:12:25.77\00:12:30.05 to police in the sealed-off book depository that 00:12:30.08\00:12:33.68 Lee Harvey Oswald was the only employee he knew was missing. 00:12:33.72\00:12:37.72 Officer Tippet decided to ask this man a question or two. 00:12:37.75\00:12:41.69 He called Oswald over to his car and stepped out 00:12:45.03\00:12:48.56 but just then Oswald pulled out a pistol and shot him 00:12:48.60\00:12:52.13 four times as Tippet died the assassin fled the scene. 00:12:52.17\00:12:57.11 A little later Johnny Brewer spotted this suspicious figure 00:12:57.14\00:13:02.58 and saw him slip into this Texas theater without paying 00:13:02.61\00:13:06.88 Johnny alerted the ticket clerk and he called the police 00:13:06.92\00:13:10.55 at 1:40 p.m. Officers swept into this dark theater 00:13:10.59\00:13:14.76 and put a hand on Oswald, he resisted arrest attempting to 00:13:14.79\00:13:19.53 draw his pistol but the police restrained him and took him 00:13:19.56\00:13:23.43 to the station. Later he'd be charged with the murders 00:13:23.47\00:13:26.94 of Kennedy and Tippet. 00:13:26.97\00:13:28.84 In trauma room one at Parkland Hospital physicians had 00:13:28.87\00:13:33.58 identified Kennedy's condition as morbid, that meant he had 00:13:33.61\00:13:38.45 no chance of survival. They would try but that shot to his 00:13:38.48\00:13:43.08 head was fatal. A priest named Huber standing at his bedside 00:13:43.12\00:13:48.06 would draw a sheet back from the president's face 00:13:48.09\00:13:51.23 and administer the last rights. 00:13:51.26\00:13:53.16 The White House Press Secretary would officially announce 00:13:53.19\00:13:57.20 Kennedy's death at 1:33 p.m. 00:13:57.23\00:14:00.50 This was the Peace Corp President, the one who took 00:14:15.88\00:14:18.59 America through the Cuban Missile Crisis. 00:14:18.62\00:14:21.06 His administration had started the Civil Rights Legislation 00:14:21.09\00:14:24.86 and the man sworn in after the assassination, Kennedy's 00:14:24.89\00:14:28.76 Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson would become the president 00:14:28.80\00:14:32.87 behind real Civil Rights Reform in this country. 00:14:32.90\00:14:36.24 So there were a lot of questions after Kennedy's death, 00:14:36.27\00:14:39.31 a lot of investigations, a lot of theories thrown about. 00:14:39.34\00:14:43.55 What was really behind those rifle shots? 00:14:43.58\00:14:46.75 Wasn't there a conspiracy? What political forces would 00:14:46.78\00:14:51.39 want Kennedy killed? 00:14:51.42\00:14:52.75 Surely such a tragic historical event, couldn't have been 00:14:52.79\00:14:57.23 pulled off by just one man, Lee Harvey Oswald. 00:14:57.26\00:15:00.60 Many historians look at the mid-60s and late 60's as a 00:15:02.50\00:15:06.53 time in this country where people seriously questioned 00:15:06.57\00:15:09.74 the United States Government and perhaps lost faith 00:15:09.77\00:15:13.61 and trust in the government. 00:15:13.64\00:15:15.24 And that really hasn't stopped because this is such an 00:15:15.28\00:15:18.25 interesting subject, it's so visual in nature, it lends 00:15:18.28\00:15:22.02 itself after television and movie programs. 00:15:22.05\00:15:25.12 The Kennedys come in this story lives on, young people commit 00:15:25.15\00:15:30.23 into this and they don't know anything about Kennedy or his 00:15:30.26\00:15:32.89 policies or why he was a great leader to many so in those days. 00:15:32.93\00:15:37.03 They don't care about that stuff they want to know who did it, 00:15:37.07\00:15:39.53 they want to know who killed him. 00:15:39.57\00:15:40.90 So I can't even imagine decades from now that there won't be 00:15:40.94\00:15:46.54 people walking around out there in Dealey Plaza 00:15:46.57\00:15:48.68 and pointing and scratching their heads and trying to make 00:15:48.71\00:15:51.48 some sense of what happened that day. 00:15:51.51\00:15:53.48 Well, the assassin would remain forever silent. 00:15:53.52\00:15:59.85 On Sunday, November 24, he was here at the Dallas Police 00:15:59.89\00:16:04.79 Headquarters being led through the basement, 00:16:04.83\00:16:06.86 officers were preparing to transfer him to the county jail 00:16:06.90\00:16:10.73 quite a crowd had gathered though trying to get a look 00:16:10.77\00:16:14.57 at the alleged assassin. Dallas night club operator Jack Ruby 00:16:14.60\00:16:19.37 suddenly stepped forward with a revolver and shot Oswald 00:16:19.41\00:16:23.21 in the abdomen, it proved a fatal bullet. 00:16:23.24\00:16:26.48 Now, police officers wouldn't be able to interrogate the man 00:16:26.51\00:16:32.82 but there were plenty of other investigations. 00:16:32.85\00:16:36.06 The Warren Commission created by President, Johnson would look 00:16:36.09\00:16:40.70 at all the facts in depth, their conclusion, Oswald had acted 00:16:40.73\00:16:45.93 alone, those three shots came from his rifle 00:16:45.97\00:16:50.34 But many Americans just had to believe there was some 00:16:50.37\00:16:54.81 big conspiracy behind that fateful shooting. 00:16:54.84\00:16:58.51 I was a senior in high school when it happened 00:16:58.55\00:17:01.02 and my father who fought in World War II was scared to death 00:17:01.05\00:17:04.52 that the Russians were behind it and World War III was 00:17:04.55\00:17:07.46 about to begin, that was the first conspiracy theory. 00:17:07.49\00:17:10.09 Then when Jack Ruby a local Dallas Night Club owner 00:17:10.13\00:17:12.83 with mob connections killed Lee Harvey Oswald the suspect 00:17:12.86\00:17:17.57 in the very state from which Lyndon Johnson had become 00:17:17.60\00:17:22.47 president, it made you wonder if Johnson was behind the 00:17:22.50\00:17:25.91 assassination so that was the second big theory. 00:17:25.94\00:17:28.51 But over the years other theories have come forth, 00:17:28.54\00:17:31.61 the CIA because they despised Kennedy for various reasons, 00:17:31.65\00:17:38.25 In 1967 Josiah Thompson published six seconds in Dallas 00:17:38.29\00:17:44.89 a book about what happened here just off this mound. 00:17:44.93\00:17:48.83 He suggested Kennedy was struck by two bullets to the head 00:17:48.86\00:17:53.54 from two directions. One from the rear, one from the right 00:17:53.57\00:17:57.51 front, close to 1,000 books have been published about 00:17:57.54\00:18:01.61 the assassination and over 95% support some conspiracy. 00:18:01.64\00:18:06.85 Some advance a theory that pro- Castro Cubans made it all happen 00:18:06.88\00:18:12.32 and there were all kinds of claims about how the evidence 00:18:12.35\00:18:15.82 had been altered. Dallas police must have changed those 00:18:15.86\00:18:19.76 autopsy shots to give the appearance that the wounds 00:18:19.79\00:18:22.90 were caused by one rifle, one gunman. 00:18:22.93\00:18:25.90 Yes, a tragedy compels us to create satisfying explanations, 00:18:25.93\00:18:31.74 conservative people, one of the KGB involved, liberal people, 00:18:31.77\00:18:36.91 one of Right Wing Businessman involved. 00:18:36.95\00:18:39.18 A big event needs a big plan behind it. 00:18:39.21\00:18:43.22 The problem with the Kennedy assassination is there is no 00:18:43.25\00:18:46.89 known motive for Lee Harvey Oswald and yet to this day 00:18:46.92\00:18:50.83 all of the evidence points to him and him alone. 00:18:50.86\00:18:54.86 But most people are just not satisfied that one guy, 00:18:54.90\00:18:58.87 one little tiny individual without any connections 00:18:58.90\00:19:02.94 to anybody, apparently was able to do away with the very popular 00:19:02.97\00:19:07.18 leader of one of the biggest and most powerful countries 00:19:07.21\00:19:11.11 on the planet which is lop- sided, this doesn't make sense. 00:19:11.15\00:19:15.02 So, as long as there are holes in the story and people can 00:19:15.05\00:19:18.22 plug in their own answers, they'll probably keep doing so. 00:19:18.25\00:19:21.32 Well, we'll never be sure of course, if there were other 00:19:21.36\00:19:26.93 people who helped Lee Harvey Oswald but here's the basic 00:19:26.96\00:19:30.87 fact behind that assassination, here's the essential truth 00:19:30.90\00:19:35.17 which a lot of other people ignored. 00:19:35.20\00:19:38.34 It was a man's character that produced that killing, 00:19:38.37\00:19:41.71 that's at the bottom of it all. 00:19:41.74\00:19:44.98 Lee Harvey Oswald grew up around withdrawn and temperamental kid 00:19:53.66\00:19:58.66 once he was even accused of threatening his half-brother's 00:19:58.69\00:20:01.70 wife with a knife. Later truancy from school led to a psychiatric 00:20:01.73\00:20:08.34 assessment. This young man was found to have a vivid fantasy 00:20:08.37\00:20:12.11 life. Imagining scenes of power to compensate for his 00:20:12.14\00:20:16.51 shortcomings and frustrations. 00:20:16.54\00:20:18.31 Oswald joined the US Marine Corp just after his 17th 00:20:18.35\00:20:22.12 birthday, he was trained as a radio operator and served 00:20:22.15\00:20:26.45 in Japan. But he got into trouble playing around with 00:20:26.49\00:20:30.53 an unauthorized 22-handgun accidentally shooting himself 00:20:30.56\00:20:34.76 in the elbow. Then he got into a fight with his sergeant 00:20:34.80\00:20:38.37 who reported the incident and he was court marshaled. 00:20:38.40\00:20:41.80 Oswald would have to be punished a third time 00:20:41.84\00:20:45.21 because he fired his rifle into the jungle for no reason. 00:20:45.24\00:20:48.94 After that, Oswald claimed that his mother needed care 00:20:48.98\00:20:52.75 and received a hardship discharge. 00:20:52.78\00:20:55.45 Oswald flew to Russia and played around with becoming 00:20:55.48\00:21:00.22 a Soviet citizen for a while but then he got bored 00:21:00.26\00:21:03.66 and came back to America. Settling in Dallas Oswald was 00:21:03.69\00:21:09.16 by a graphic arts firm but je was inefficient and quite rude 00:21:09.20\00:21:13.54 to the point that fights threatened to break out. 00:21:13.57\00:21:16.34 After he was fired, he bought a 6.5 caliber Carcano rifle 00:21:16.37\00:21:22.44 by mail order using another named. 00:21:22.48\00:21:25.05 Lee Harvey Oswald obviously had personal problems 00:21:25.08\00:21:30.02 that may well be conspiracies in this world but the bottom line 00:21:30.05\00:21:34.72 when it comes to terrible deeds, is human nature. 00:21:34.76\00:21:37.89 Tragedies happen most frequently because we are bent 00:21:37.93\00:21:42.26 in the wrong direction. 00:21:42.30\00:21:43.90 Well, Lee Harvey Oswald's background is really interesting 00:21:43.93\00:21:47.50 in that, he was one of life's losers, we've all known people 00:21:47.54\00:21:51.64 in life, that just no matter what they do, no matter how hard 00:21:51.67\00:21:54.58 they try, they fail. At the time of the assassination of Lee 00:21:54.61\00:21:59.08 Harvey Oswald had a minimum-wage job, here in the Book Depository 00:21:59.11\00:22:02.38 Building. He had no future most every job he had 00:22:02.42\00:22:06.76 he's been fired, he had two baby girls and a wife who 00:22:06.79\00:22:10.53 despised him and they were living apart, he had no 00:22:10.56\00:22:14.26 prospects. And ensured that he was a guy who had no future and 00:22:14.30\00:22:19.13 when men are put in that position, they tend to do very 00:22:19.17\00:22:23.57 dramatic things. When Oswald woke up that morning, 00:22:23.61\00:22:25.91 he had spent his last night with his wife, 00:22:25.94\00:22:29.41 he left virtually all his money and his wedding ring 00:22:29.44\00:22:33.25 on the dressing room table. 00:22:33.28\00:22:36.55 You know when a man makes a statement like that, that's 00:22:36.58\00:22:39.49 a very powerful decision, he's decided to do something drastic. 00:22:39.52\00:22:44.29 Did he go out and kill a president for some reason? 00:22:44.33\00:22:47.70 Well, that's what the evidence says. 00:22:47.73\00:22:49.06 Was he going to do something else and just call it quits 00:22:49.10\00:22:52.53 or something? Or we don't know. Jack Ruby cheated history 00:22:52.57\00:22:55.80 so we will never know. 00:22:55.84\00:22:57.17 You know, there's an assassination in history 00:23:02.44\00:23:05.65 that puts a spotlight on that issue. 00:23:05.68\00:23:08.35 It's the killing of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, 00:23:08.38\00:23:11.69 this is a man who bled to death on a Roman Cross. 00:23:11.72\00:23:15.79 But He wasn't just a political leader, He was the Son of God 00:23:15.82\00:23:23.26 laying down His life for sinful human beings. 00:23:23.30\00:23:26.33 He was all about reconciliation listen to Colossians: 121 & 22. 00:23:26.37\00:23:34.81 That assassination on the cross 2,000 years ago 00:23:52.49\00:23:57.13 actually gets very personal. The cross is about our problems, 00:23:57.17\00:24:02.07 our weaknesses, our alienation, like Lee Harvey Oswald 00:24:02.10\00:24:06.68 we try to compensate for our shortcomings and frustrations 00:24:06.71\00:24:11.28 in all kinds of ways. 00:24:11.31\00:24:13.11 We get into quarrels and fights, we blame other people, 00:24:13.15\00:24:17.75 we go from one place to another, trying to escape our inadequacy, 00:24:17.79\00:24:23.12 we blow up about pressures at work conflicts at home, 00:24:23.16\00:24:28.03 but there's only one real way to deal with our shortcomings, 00:24:28.06\00:24:31.53 our frustrations and that is the cross of Jesus Christ. 00:24:31.57\00:24:35.67 This Messiah absorbed all our moral failures in His own body 00:24:35.70\00:24:41.94 and He offers to exchange all our failures with His own 00:24:41.98\00:24:46.08 blameless perfect life. 00:24:46.11\00:24:48.08 He promises that we can be accepted by our Holy God 00:24:48.12\00:24:52.95 in the beloved, in the Son. 00:24:52.99\00:24:55.59 You know, John F. Kennedy was shot with his arms out 00:24:55.62\00:25:00.26 waving at scores of people, after his assassination 00:25:00.30\00:25:04.27 he became quite the presidential hero with quite the legacy 00:25:04.30\00:25:08.57 but he wasn't a perfect President of course. 00:25:08.60\00:25:11.71 He wasn't even a very faithful husband to Jacqueline 00:25:11.74\00:25:15.61 who would hold his bleeding head in her lap. 00:25:15.64\00:25:18.51 But Jesus Christ was the perfect Messiah, the spotless Lamb 00:25:18.55\00:25:23.35 of God, He died with His arms out wide on the cross 00:25:23.39\00:25:27.59 welcoming all of humanity He would become an undying hero. 00:25:27.62\00:25:33.26 His legacy can take us from our human weaknesses straight into 00:25:33.29\00:25:38.43 heaven. The cross is a legacy with your name on it 00:25:38.47\00:25:41.97 it carries the weight of God's love for you. 00:25:42.00\00:25:45.47 The cross can set you free, it gives your life a stable center. 00:25:45.51\00:25:51.11 Isn't it time to stop blaming some conspiracy way out there? 00:25:51.15\00:25:55.55 Isn't it time to accept the fact that our human weaknesses 00:25:55.58\00:26:00.52 create most misfortunes? 00:26:00.56\00:26:02.56 But, there is a way out, there is hope, we can accept the fact 00:26:02.59\00:26:08.06 that one significant death has made the most impact on our 00:26:08.10\00:26:12.37 world. If you would like to know more about Jesus 00:26:12.40\00:26:16.00 and the hope, happiness, and inner peace that He brings 00:26:16.04\00:26:19.17 then I'd like to recommend the free gift we have for all our 00:26:19.21\00:26:23.31 Incredible Journey viewers today. 00:26:23.35\00:26:26.08 It's the booklet, "The One and Only". 00:26:26.11\00:26:29.05 This inspiring booklet is our gift to you and is absolutely 00:26:29.08\00:26:33.52 free.
