This is Ketef Hinnom a rocky null in the heart of Jerusalem. 00:00:26.62\00:00:31.43 It's situated on the south shoulder of the Hinnom Valley 00:00:31.46\00:00:35.00 opposite of Mt. Zion, over- looking the walls of the 00:00:35.03\00:00:38.70 old city of Jerusalem and the famous tower of David in 00:00:38.73\00:00:42.00 Jaffa Gate. The site is beside the ancient road between 00:00:42.04\00:00:47.48 Bethlehem and Jerusalem. It was an important road junction 00:00:47.51\00:00:52.01 between the land of the ancient Hebrew tribes of Judah 00:00:52.05\00:00:55.32 and Benjamin. Thanks to its location everyone who came to 00:00:55.35\00:01:00.79 Jerusalem and the City of David had to pass here. 00:01:00.82\00:01:04.23 The location of Ketef Hinnom high on a hill is beautiful and 00:01:04.26\00:01:09.53 strategic but there's more to Ketef Hinnom than 00:01:09.56\00:01:12.97 meets the eye. This rocky out- crop concealed hidden secrets. 00:01:13.00\00:01:17.61 Ketef Hinnom is a place of treasure, buried treasure, 00:01:17.64\00:01:22.64 treasure that's been buried here for 2,700 years. 00:01:22.68\00:01:28.22 This is the site of one of the most exciting and amazing 00:01:28.25\00:01:32.55 archeological-discoveries in modern times involving a hoard 00:01:32.59\00:01:37.03 of treasure including two silver scrolls that carried an ancient 00:01:37.06\00:01:41.63 message that surprised the world. 00:01:41.66\00:01:44.00 Join me as we unravel the mystery of the silver scrolls. 00:01:44.03\00:01:49.07 I was born in a time and place where nobody should be born. 00:02:13.06\00:02:17.17 I am a product of the II World War, I was born in the ghetto 00:02:17.20\00:02:22.87 of Budapest Hungary, actually nobody should be born there. 00:02:22.90\00:02:28.01 In January of 1945 the Russian army entered the ghetto 00:02:31.15\00:02:38.25 of Budapest and since then I'm a free person and I am 00:02:38.29\00:02:43.73 alive. I guess that between myself and death in the 00:02:43.79\00:02:50.33 concentration camps there is about a week or so. 00:02:50.37\00:02:53.54 'Twas the end of the war and the Germans were in a total 00:02:53.57\00:02:59.61 disorder already and they forgot vantus... 00:02:59.64\00:03:02.61 I owe my life to the Red Army to Joseph Sullen wonderful people 00:03:02.64\00:03:09.25 many people owe him, till death I owe him my life. 00:03:09.28\00:03:14.12 Dr. Garfield Barkay was born in the Budapest ghetto in 00:03:14.16\00:03:20.53 Hungary right after the Nazis entered the country and 00:03:20.56\00:03:24.53 immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950. 00:03:24.57\00:03:28.07 He soon developed a keen interest in the history and 00:03:28.10\00:03:31.57 archeology of his new homeland. 00:03:31.61\00:03:34.14 I came to Jerusalem when I was six and I began wandering around 00:03:41.32\00:03:46.45 in my house, I collected all kinds of artifacts, coins, and 00:03:46.49\00:03:50.73 and pottery, etc. and I wondered who were the people who 00:03:50.76\00:03:55.06 left these behind. 00:03:55.10\00:03:57.00 And I forced my father to buy me some books about archeology 00:03:57.03\00:04:02.04 and that was obvious that the next step would be studying 00:04:02.07\00:04:07.38 the archeology after I left the military service. 00:04:07.41\00:04:11.58 And so, after his military service he began studying 00:04:11.61\00:04:16.02 archeology and completed his doctorate Suma Cum Lauda 00:04:16.05\00:04:20.06 at Tele Viv University and then participated in and conducted 00:04:20.09\00:04:25.26 numerous excavations mostly focused on Jerusalem. 00:04:25.29\00:04:29.50 Today, he's considered by many to be the greatest expert 00:04:29.53\00:04:34.84 on the archeology of Jerusalem. 00:04:34.87\00:04:37.37 In the 1970's I was looking for a power urban activities 00:04:37.41\00:04:43.88 which took place next to a city that were depending upon 00:04:43.91\00:04:47.52 what happens in the city but they are outside the city. 00:04:47.55\00:04:54.02 And I tried to map all the extramural human activities 00:04:54.06\00:04:59.16 which took place outside the city. I tried to put myself 00:04:59.19\00:05:04.30 into the shoes of the ancient... Where would I put quarrying 00:05:04.33\00:05:08.10 where would I put burial activities where I would put 00:05:08.14\00:05:12.61 large public gatherings etc. Those are activities that don't 00:05:12.64\00:05:17.38 take place in the densely built up city. 00:05:17.41\00:05:20.72 So, theoretically, I stand out on the map and this would be 00:05:20.75\00:05:26.02 an ideal place. 00:05:26.05\00:05:27.39 Gabriel Barkay gathered to his friends had long been interested 00:05:27.42\00:05:35.60 in Ketef Hinnom, he'd taken a survey and collected pieces 00:05:35.63\00:05:39.67 of broken pottery here immediately below St. Andrews 00:05:39.70\00:05:43.51 Scottish Church and he found that the pottery shards 00:05:43.54\00:05:46.68 dated back to the time of the Old Testament Israelite kings. 00:05:46.71\00:05:50.78 This convinced him that this rocky knoll may well conceal 00:05:50.81\00:05:56.15 some long-hidden secrets. 00:05:56.18\00:05:58.12 In 1979 he decided that it was time to begin excavating the 00:05:58.15\00:06:04.03 site but he had a meager budget and so could only afford a team 00:06:04.06\00:06:08.86 of 12 and 13-year-old helpers from a local archeology club. 00:06:08.90\00:06:13.34 Not to be deterred, Barkay began to investigate this site 00:06:13.37\00:06:18.11 in earnest with his small work crew of young students 00:06:18.14\00:06:21.74 and volunteers. 00:06:21.78\00:06:23.38 Well excavation had been in progress only three days 00:06:23.41\00:06:27.98 when a burial cave was uncovered, the ancient tomb 00:06:28.02\00:06:32.25 had been cut into the limestone slope. Originally it would have 00:06:32.29\00:06:37.06 formed a rock cave but over the centuries the roof collapsed 00:06:37.09\00:06:41.70 leaving the cave floor exposed. 00:06:41.73\00:06:44.97 Excitement grew as one by one other caves began to materialize 00:06:45.00\00:06:50.81 there were nine in all, as Barkay inspected the burial 00:06:50.84\00:06:55.74 caves, the design and architecture told his trained 00:06:55.78\00:06:59.41 eye that they dated from the era of Solomon's Temple, 00:06:59.45\00:07:03.25 the first temple period, the 8th to 6th centuries B.C. 00:07:03.28\00:07:08.02 Don't expect to find any treasure here Barkay 00:07:08.06\00:07:12.09 told his young crew, its probably been looted centuries 00:07:12.13\00:07:15.80 ago, but never mind, we're looking for understanding 00:07:15.83\00:07:20.47 for how people lived for what happened, 00:07:20.50\00:07:23.20 but if we do find treasures, blessed be. 00:07:23.24\00:07:27.24 This burial cave dates back to first temple period, 00:07:27.28\00:07:32.08 it is a 2600-year-old burial cave which had the roof of 00:07:32.11\00:07:39.49 which was quarried away unfortunately but if it would 00:07:39.52\00:07:43.69 have been in here we would be in total darkness and 00:07:43.73\00:07:46.86 we would have to crawl on our bellies in order to enter. 00:07:46.90\00:07:50.57 The cave itself is a multi- chambered burial cave, 00:07:50.60\00:07:54.07 it has a large entry hole and it is flanked on all sides by five 00:07:54.10\00:07:59.11 burial chambers. The burial chambers, each of them was 00:07:59.14\00:08:03.24 meant for another son of the founding father. 00:08:03.28\00:08:07.95 This chamber has three benches upon which they stretch the 00:08:07.98\00:08:13.66 bodies, the benches are equipped with scooped-out headrests 00:08:13.69\00:08:18.76 for the heads of the deceased imitating some devices that they 00:08:18.79\00:08:25.60 had in their beds and then below underneath the benches for 00:08:25.63\00:08:31.67 stretching the bodies we have the repository which was for 00:08:31.71\00:08:35.54 the secondary burial, the burial of the flesh to place upon the 00:08:35.58\00:08:40.22 benches, the burial of the bones took place down below. 00:08:40.25\00:08:44.15 So they collected the bones after the decay of the flesh 00:08:44.19\00:08:47.86 in order to make room for the next generation upon 00:08:47.89\00:08:51.49 the benches. 00:08:51.53\00:08:52.86 The burial caves clearly reveal the burial customs of the 00:08:52.89\00:08:57.73 first temple period. Shedding light on an obscure text in the 00:08:57.77\00:09:02.07 Bible in Judges 2: verse 10. 00:09:02.10\00:09:05.57 The bones of the deceased were literally gathered and placed 00:09:12.28\00:09:16.25 with those of their ancestors, the fathers in the repository 00:09:16.28\00:09:20.56 under the burial bench. 00:09:20.59\00:09:22.22 Moving along the line of caves Barkay noticed that this one 00:09:22.26\00:09:29.03 was different from the rest. The care taken to carve and 00:09:29.06\00:09:33.17 smooth its walls showed that this was the tomb of a wealthy 00:09:33.20\00:09:37.81 Jerusalem family. Barkay had never seen anything like this 00:09:37.84\00:09:43.18 before, he ran his fingers along the bench, could this cave 00:09:43.21\00:09:48.12 contain a special surprise? Barkay hid beneath the bench 00:09:48.15\00:09:53.42 looking for the repository where they buried the bones 00:09:53.46\00:09:57.19 when he looked inside all he saw was what looked like an empty 00:09:57.23\00:10:02.60 rock floor, Barkay was deeply disappointed. 00:10:02.63\00:10:06.80 Now the repository of chamber number 25 in cave number 24 00:10:06.84\00:10:12.77 was found in the season of 1979 and when I first crawled into 00:10:12.81\00:10:21.02 the repository I realized that unfortunately it is looted 00:10:21.05\00:10:27.02 as were all the other caves we excavated before. 00:10:27.06\00:10:31.33 At least we had some well preserved architectural 00:10:31.36\00:10:38.73 features. I saw a kind of a floor there, rocky floor which 00:10:38.77\00:10:46.07 hinted that somebody was there before me. I had the small crew 00:10:46.11\00:10:51.11 of students among those kids, there was a small boy (little 00:10:51.15\00:10:58.55 Nathan) made me nervous all the time. He an ugly habit of always 00:10:58.59\00:11:03.89 pulling my shirt from behind when I would turn around 00:11:03.93\00:11:06.73 he would ask me silly questions. I couldn't bear the sight 00:11:06.76\00:11:10.83 of this boy anymore and so it happens that he made one of the 00:11:10.87\00:11:16.50 most important discoveries in my life. 00:11:16.54\00:11:18.77 Barkay needed to have all of the accumulated dirt and stone 00:11:18.81\00:11:23.55 cleaned out of the repository and he had the perfect person 00:11:23.58\00:11:28.28 to do the cleanout. I took that kid little Nathan 00:11:28.32\00:11:34.56 and I thought for a while I'm not going to see him 00:11:34.59\00:11:38.99 I gave him the job of cleaning up that place for a 00:11:39.03\00:11:42.83 photographer. So Barkay told Nathan that the repository 00:11:42.86\00:11:47.04 had to be as clean as his mother's kitchen 00:11:47.07\00:11:50.07 even if he had to lick it clean. It had to be spotless for the 00:11:50.11\00:11:55.28 photograph. To Barkay's surprise Nathan cleans out the 00:11:55.31\00:12:00.52 repository meticulously but then Nathan gets bored. 00:12:00.55\00:12:05.59 He has a hammer in his hand usually a bad combination 00:12:05.62\00:12:10.09 in his boredom, Nathan starts banging his hammer 00:12:10.13\00:12:14.30 on the repository rock floor and this is where truth become 00:12:14.33\00:12:19.03 stranger than fiction. The floor cracks opens up and reveals 00:12:19.07\00:12:24.74 an ancient treasure trove. 00:12:24.77\00:12:26.27 After a while, I was far away from here, I feel my shirt 00:12:26.31\00:12:31.41 being pulled from behind and suddenly when I turned around 00:12:31.45\00:12:36.22 I saw him holding two jugs repository jugs intact. 00:12:36.25\00:12:42.46 They were from first temple period. That was against all 00:12:42.49\00:12:47.10 instructions, he had to call over one of the archeologists 00:12:47.13\00:12:51.20 when I turned around with his discovery I was ready to 00:12:51.23\00:12:56.37 suffocate him on the spot, it was against all possible 00:12:56.40\00:13:01.18 instructions, in any case, he didn't come up with any 00:13:01.21\00:13:04.88 explanation where from he had those jugs, I went back 00:13:04.91\00:13:09.45 with him and then I realized what happened. 00:13:09.48\00:13:12.49 Apparently a layer of rock from the caved ceiling 00:13:12.52\00:13:16.42 had collapsed and covered the repository floor. 00:13:16.46\00:13:19.59 Nathan's hammering had broken it up and revealed the hidden 00:13:19.63\00:13:24.07 treasure below. Leave it to a 13-year-old troublemaker 00:13:24.10\00:13:28.84 to make one of the greatest archeological discoveries 00:13:28.87\00:13:32.51 of all time. A secret room filled with ancient treasure. 00:13:32.54\00:13:37.05 But now this required personal attention immediately. 00:13:37.08\00:13:41.68 So Nathan and his friends were sent home and replaced by 00:13:41.72\00:13:46.29 a team of university archeology students, they were sworn to 00:13:46.32\00:13:51.16 secrecy, they weren't even allowed to tell their parents 00:13:51.19\00:13:54.56 spouses or friends. If word got around Jerusalem 00:13:54.60\00:13:58.40 that there were a cave full of treasure here 00:13:58.43\00:14:00.77 it would attract modern day tomb robbers and create 00:14:00.80\00:14:04.57 a security nightmare. 00:14:04.61\00:14:06.31 Electricity was connected here by the nearby St Andrews Church, 00:14:06.34\00:14:10.98 the team worked 24 hours around the clock carefully stone by 00:14:11.01\00:14:16.45 stone, they removed the rubble. As the last stone was removed 00:14:16.48\00:14:21.19 light flashed into the complete repository for the first time 00:14:21.22\00:14:26.09 in almost one million days. 00:14:26.13\00:14:28.53 Its ancient treasure lay untouched, it had escaped 00:14:28.56\00:14:33.40 the greedy hands of grave robbers over the millennia. 00:14:33.44\00:14:36.81 Gabriel Barkay peered into the semi-darkness of this ancient 00:14:36.84\00:14:41.84 burial cave. What he saw caused his heart to race 00:14:41.88\00:14:47.05 with excitement. He had entered a long-lost world 00:14:47.08\00:14:51.25 never intended to be seen by human eyes. 00:14:51.29\00:14:54.82 Surrounding him were dozens of grinning skeletons, 00:14:54.86\00:14:58.59 the remains of ninety-five ancient Israelites, dead for 00:14:58.63\00:15:03.13 thousands of years and there was treasure, fabulous treasure. 00:15:03.16\00:15:08.20 In the flickering light thrown by the single light bulb, 00:15:08.24\00:15:12.14 he and his team saw a stunning array of burial gifts 00:15:12.17\00:15:16.61 over a thousand precious objects! There was silver 00:15:16.64\00:15:20.52 jewelry, coins, precious stones oil lamps, jars, and decanters 00:15:20.55\00:15:25.89 vessels of alabaster and ivory artifacts. 00:15:25.92\00:15:29.72 The excavation also uncovered an inscribed seal with the word 00:15:29.76\00:15:35.13 PAULTA, which is a shortened version of Palate Yahoo, 00:15:35.16\00:15:39.13 a common name found in the City of David at that time. 00:15:39.17\00:15:42.77 Evidently, this cave belonged to a wealthy family with that 00:15:42.80\00:15:47.04 name and at least 95 members were buried here over several 00:15:47.08\00:15:52.35 generations. 00:15:52.38\00:15:54.72 Amid the excitement one of the students attention was attracted 00:15:54.75\00:16:00.42 by a small object on the floor of the cave near where 00:16:00.46\00:16:03.83 she was kneeling. She called Barkay' s attention to 00:16:03.86\00:16:07.40 the gray-purple item on the floor. It looked like a 00:16:07.43\00:16:10.63 cigarette butt, it was the color of corroded silver. 00:16:10.67\00:16:14.70 Examining the small object Barkay recognized it as an 00:16:14.74\00:16:19.84 amulet. A strip of silver rolled up into a tiny scroll 00:16:19.87\00:16:24.31 with a hole in its center through which string could 00:16:24.35\00:16:27.78 be threaded. Barkay suggested that it was a pendant 00:16:27.82\00:16:31.89 probably worn around the neck by one of these Israelites 00:16:31.92\00:16:35.86 buried here in the cave. 00:16:35.89\00:16:37.33 Later as they sieved the soil accumulated on the floor 00:16:37.36\00:16:41.66 over the centuries another amulet a second still smaller 00:16:41.70\00:16:46.23 silver scroll was found in the cave. The larger scroll 00:16:46.27\00:16:50.77 was about two centimeters in length and one centimeter in 00:16:50.81\00:16:54.31 diameter. The second scroll was about half the size. 00:16:54.34\00:16:59.38 This is the first and only intact burial repository of the 00:16:59.41\00:17:03.62 1st Temple period 8th to 6th century B.C. ever found 00:17:03.65\00:17:08.36 in Jerusalem. Of some 1,000 items found in the tomb 00:17:08.39\00:17:13.06 the silver scrolls were a special interest to Barkay, 00:17:13.09\00:17:17.00 he was convinced that there must be writing on them, 00:17:17.03\00:17:20.94 he was sure of it but the scrolls were too brittle to 00:17:20.97\00:17:25.67 unroll. For two and a half years Barkay tried to find some 00:17:25.71\00:17:30.35 way of unrolling the silver scrolls, they were sent to 00:17:30.38\00:17:34.22 experts at the University of Leeds in Britain. 00:17:34.25\00:17:37.29 There some of the most experienced restorers of ancient 00:17:37.32\00:17:41.69 artifacts and metal experts available for such delicate 00:17:41.72\00:17:45.79 work. The British experts felt however that the danger of 00:17:45.83\00:17:50.50 danger of destroying the scrolls was too great, they refused 00:17:50.53\00:17:53.94 to risk working on the scrolls and returned them. 00:17:53.97\00:17:57.14 The scrolls were then sent to Germany, the German laboratory 00:17:57.17\00:18:02.41 similarly declined and sent the scrolls back to Israel 00:18:02.44\00:18:06.28 nobody was prepared to touch them they were just too delicate 00:18:06.31\00:18:11.29 and fragile, the danger of harming them was too great. 00:18:11.32\00:18:15.56 There was no previous experience in opening or unrolling 00:18:15.59\00:18:20.56 such objects and the natural way of dealing with it... 00:18:20.60\00:18:27.44 it was found out to be made of silver and we tried to heat up 00:18:27.47\00:18:32.44 the silver in order to soften it and to unroll it and that 00:18:32.47\00:18:39.05 was found to be destructive and actually, we lost some parts 00:18:39.08\00:18:43.65 in this way. For three years the contents of the scrolls 00:18:43.69\00:18:47.59 remained a secret, Barkay was frustrated, he feared the 00:18:47.62\00:18:52.79 scrolls would keep their secrets forever. 00:18:52.83\00:18:55.63 Finally, the scrolls were sent to the Israel Museum 00:18:55.66\00:18:59.27 of Laboratories, Joseph Dodo Schenav was given the 00:18:59.30\00:19:03.44 responsibility of devising some means to unravel it. 00:19:03.47\00:19:08.41 The responsibility was enormous, Schenav considered 00:19:08.44\00:19:13.05 every possibility, finally he came up with a new 00:19:13.11\00:19:17.65 and innovative solution, he soaked the largest scroll 00:19:17.69\00:19:21.49 in an acid solution to remove thousands of years of corrosion. 00:19:21.52\00:19:26.43 Then the outer layer was carefully smeared with 00:19:27.43\00:19:31.07 acrylic emulsion to give it strength. When it dried 00:19:31.10\00:19:35.00 it was transparent and elastic. Schienhav then carefully 00:19:35.04\00:19:40.61 unrolled the first layer...layer by layer, he repeated the 00:19:40.64\00:19:45.71 process millimeter by millimeter over a period of months both 00:19:45.75\00:19:51.55 scrolls were carefully unrolled. The larger of the scrolls 00:19:51.59\00:19:55.72 was about 2 centimeters wide and about ten centimeters 00:19:55.76\00:19:59.76 in length, it was made of pure silver. Eagerly Barkay placed 00:19:59.79\00:20:06.10 the largest scroll under a microscope it's covered with 00:20:06.13\00:20:10.41 writing...he cried excitedly as he squinted through the 00:20:10.44\00:20:14.44 eyepiece where he saw the faint etchings of ancient Hebrew 00:20:14.48\00:20:18.31 letters. Now, the challenge was to decipher the writing 00:20:18.35\00:20:22.92 and even if they could decipher the characters inscribed 00:20:22.95\00:20:26.82 on the ancient scrolls, would they, could they have any 00:20:26.86\00:20:31.36 meaning today? 00:20:31.39\00:20:33.03 I could identify the first word which I deciphered 00:20:33.06\00:20:37.73 immediately on the spot that was Udaveavave? 00:20:37.77\00:20:41.97 Which is anglicized as Jehovah or the private name of God. 00:20:42.00\00:20:47.54 Wherever the words the "Lord" appears in the English Bible 00:20:47.58\00:20:51.15 this is what we have in the Hebrew original. 00:20:51.18\00:20:54.05 But it wasn't enough to decipher the full message 00:20:54.08\00:20:58.15 and unlock the mystery of the silver scrolls. 00:20:58.19\00:21:01.82 However, now he was more determined than ever to find out 00:21:01.86\00:21:06.43 what was inscribed on the scrolls, he just had to discover 00:21:06.46\00:21:10.97 their message. 00:21:11.00\00:21:12.33 Years passed and then in 1998 the scrolls along with the other 00:21:12.37\00:21:18.34 treasures found at Ketef Hinnom were turned over to the Israel 00:21:18.37\00:21:22.18 Museum in preparation for an exhibit to be held some months 00:21:22.21\00:21:26.31 later. Ada Yardini, an expert in the ancient script noticed 00:21:26.35\00:21:31.55 something on the scrolls that Barkay and others had missed. 00:21:31.59\00:21:35.72 As she closely examined the scrolls, she discovered 00:21:35.76\00:21:40.36 God's name written a third time on both scrolls in three 00:21:40.40\00:21:44.33 consecutive lines armed with this new information she 00:21:44.37\00:21:49.07 sought the help of a friend, a devout Jew, he knew the 00:21:49.10\00:21:52.61 Hebrew scriptures virtually by heart, do you know the 00:21:52.64\00:21:56.71 priestly benediction he asked, it's the only place in the 00:21:56.75\00:22:00.45 scriptures where God's name appears three times like that. 00:22:00.48\00:22:04.85 This was the clue that unlocked the mystery of the 00:22:04.89\00:22:09.29 silver scrolls. 00:22:09.32\00:22:10.66 Yardini soon deciphered the rest of the words. 00:22:10.69\00:22:14.23 Inscribed on the scrolls practically word for word 00:22:14.26\00:22:18.30 was the priestly benediction found in Number 6: 24- 26. 00:22:18.33\00:22:24.81 They are the words that Moses brought from God and gave to 00:22:24.84\00:22:29.48 Aaron and his sons to bless the people. 00:22:29.51\00:22:32.01 The High Priest prayed this benediction, this blessing 00:22:32.05\00:22:36.38 over the children of Israel every day. 00:22:36.42\00:22:39.59 The silver scrolls contained the oldest Biblical inscription 00:22:52.57\00:22:57.37 ever found. When the ancient scribe etched those words 00:22:57.41\00:23:01.68 some 2,700 years ago, the prophet Jeremiah was 00:23:01.71\00:23:05.95 still alive, Solomon's temple still stood and the heirs of 00:23:06.45\00:23:10.12 King David sat on the throne. 00:23:10.15\00:23:12.32 The Dead Sea Scrolls would not be written for another 00:23:12.35\00:23:16.52 400 years. Now when the Dead Sea Scrolls were 00:23:16.56\00:23:20.26 discovered in 1947, they were the oldest Hebrew Biblical 00:23:20.30\00:23:24.57 inscriptions ever found, they were 1,000 years older 00:23:24.60\00:23:29.20 than any other manuscripts in existence, now the 00:23:29.24\00:23:33.44 silver scrolls are 400 years older and here's what's 00:23:33.48\00:23:38.15 amazing although written about 2,700 years ago, the words 00:23:38.18\00:23:44.45 are virtually identical with those found in our Bibles. 00:23:44.49\00:23:49.16 It's a staggering fact that in the course of over 00:23:49.19\00:23:53.50 two and a half millennia of copying by hand no errors 00:23:53.53\00:23:58.13 have crept into that text. 00:23:58.17\00:24:00.14 This suggests a remarkable accuracy in the transmission 00:24:00.17\00:24:05.17 of the Bible across the centuries and through the 00:24:05.21\00:24:08.61 millennia. The discovery of the Silver Scrolls is a timely 00:24:08.64\00:24:13.15 reminder that we can trust the accuracy of the Bible 00:24:13.18\00:24:17.19 as we have it today. 00:24:17.22\00:24:20.69 Perhaps the Silver Scrolls bring a special message from the 00:24:22.86\00:24:27.03 distant past to us all. You see, this priestly benediction 00:24:27.06\00:24:32.03 is the only prayer written by God Himself for His people. 00:24:32.07\00:24:36.91 Yes, this prayer etched on the Silver Scrolls is the only 00:24:36.94\00:24:41.98 prayer that was dictated by God to bless His people 00:24:42.01\00:24:46.11 and that includes you. This is God's prayer for you, in fact 00:24:46.15\00:24:52.72 in this blessing, God refers to you six times and His 00:24:52.75\00:24:58.96 blessing covers every aspect of your life.
