Titanic, Mary Rose, USS Arizona, Britannic, MV Wilhelm Gustloff, 00:00:24.59\00:00:32.23 and RMS Lusitania. What do all these ships have in common? 00:00:32.26\00:00:36.87 Well, they all sank. These are some of the most famous 00:00:36.90\00:00:41.97 shipwrecks in history and their stories of loss are told 00:00:42.00\00:00:46.04 and retold to each new generation. 00:00:46.07\00:00:49.41 We seem to be captivated by shipwreck disaster 00:00:49.44\00:00:53.68 and the desperate struggle of the crew and passengers 00:00:53.72\00:00:57.02 to survive. It's estimated that there are about three million 00:00:57.05\00:01:02.32 shipwrecks lying on the ocean floors across our planet. 00:01:02.36\00:01:06.53 Over 8,000 of them are found in Australian waters. 00:01:06.56\00:01:11.80 One of these shipwrecks was discovered by the Australian 00:01:11.83\00:01:15.77 National Maritime Museum in 2009 and involves an amazing 00:01:15.80\00:01:21.28 story of escape convicts that circumnavigating in Australia. 00:01:21.31\00:01:25.65 The discovery of two major rivers, links to Napoleon, 00:01:25.68\00:01:30.62 and rescue and reunion. Join me as we sail this 00:01:30.65\00:01:36.83 seas on a voyage of discovery to find out more about this ship 00:01:36.86\00:01:41.36 that was built in India, commissioned to the British 00:01:41.40\00:01:44.70 Navy, carried out survey and exploratory work in Australia 00:01:44.73\00:01:48.64 and finally met its end on a jagged coral reef. 00:01:48.67\00:01:53.98 But the story doesn't end there, this shipwreck 00:01:54.01\00:01:57.88 is linked to a series of four other shipwrecks that are 00:01:57.91\00:02:02.05 all involved in one of the most amazing family reunions 00:02:02.08\00:02:06.62 of all time. 00:02:06.65\00:02:19.17 The ancient Sea Port of Whitby is a beautiful and picturesque 00:02:21.07\00:02:26.88 seaside town clinging to the coast on the edge of 00:02:26.91\00:02:30.25 the Yorkshire Moors in England just over 400 km 00:02:30.28\00:02:34.32 north of London. It's renown for many things, 00:02:34.35\00:02:37.92 the finest British fish and chips, sandy beaches, 00:02:37.95\00:02:41.82 an arch made of a whale's jaw bone, and with the Abbey ruins 00:02:41.86\00:02:46.76 that were the inspiration of Brian Stoker's well-known 00:02:46.80\00:02:50.67 novel "Dracula." 00:02:50.70\00:02:52.20 but perhaps what the area is best-known because of its most 00:02:52.23\00:02:57.34 famous son, Captain James Cook who is considered to be one of 00:02:57.37\00:03:02.38 the greatest navigators and explorers of all-time. 00:03:02.41\00:03:05.51 In 1770, Cook mapped the east coast of Australia and paved 00:03:05.55\00:03:11.59 the way for British Settlement in Sydney Cove in 1788. 00:03:11.62\00:03:16.16 Twenty six years after British Settlement in New South Whales 00:03:16.19\00:03:20.83 a lesser known son of Whitby, a young sailor named 00:03:20.86\00:03:24.80 Peter Richardson ran away from home and joined the British 00:03:24.83\00:03:29.77 Navy, he left behind a heart-broken mother. 00:03:29.80\00:03:33.68 A mother's love in unique and unconditional and desperate 00:03:33.71\00:03:38.95 to find her run-away son she eventually contacted the navy 00:03:38.98\00:03:43.79 officials. Their response was not what she wanted to hear, 00:03:43.82\00:03:48.82 Peter had left the navy after serving his term and they had 00:03:48.86\00:03:53.66 no idea where he had gone but she never gave up. 00:03:53.70\00:03:58.80 After 14 long years of searching the mother received news 00:03:58.83\00:04:04.14 that her son may be in the new colony of New South Whales 00:04:04.17\00:04:07.94 at the other end of the earth. 00:04:07.98\00:04:09.94 It was a long and dangerous voyage for a woman on her own 00:04:09.98\00:04:15.15 but undeterred she booked a cabin for the four months trip 00:04:15.18\00:04:20.22 on the City of Leads passenger ship bound for Sydney 00:04:20.26\00:04:24.66 hoping to find her long-lost only son. 00:04:24.69\00:04:28.46 Meanwhile in New South Whale, the young run-away sailor 00:04:28.50\00:04:34.74 Peter Richardson signed up to work on the ship Mermaid 00:04:34.77\00:04:39.11 on a run from Sydney with stores and government dispatches 00:04:39.14\00:04:43.04 for Fort Wellington in Raffles Bay on Melvin Island in the 00:04:43.08\00:04:47.92 Arafura Sea on the north coast of Australia in what is now 00:04:47.95\00:04:52.09 The Northern Territory. 00:04:52.12\00:04:54.89 The ship became well-know when Lt. Philip Parker-King 00:04:54.92\00:05:00.53 of the Royal Navy was commissioned to sail the Mermaid 00:05:00.56\00:05:04.13 between December 1817 and December 1820. 00:05:04.17\00:05:08.50 His job was to explore and survey the unchartered coastline 00:05:08.54\00:05:13.88 of Australia missed in the Matthew Flinders 00:05:13.91\00:05:17.15 circumnavigation survey. Sailing north close to the coast, 00:05:17.18\00:05:22.32 King conducted a survey of the Inner-Route through the 00:05:22.35\00:05:26.19 Great Barrier Reef to open it for commercial sailing ships. 00:05:26.22\00:05:29.92 He continued his surveys around the top end of Australia 00:05:29.96\00:05:34.83 until the Mermaid ran aground and was badly damaged. 00:05:34.86\00:05:38.90 King brought the ship into Careening Bay in the Kimberly 00:05:38.93\00:05:43.47 Region of Northwest Australia for some makeshift repairs. 00:05:43.51\00:05:47.54 While he was there in October 1820, King carved HMC Mermaid 00:05:47.58\00:05:55.48 1820 into the trunk of a conspicuous Boab Tree 00:05:55.52\00:06:00.32 that still can be seen there in the bay today. 00:06:00.36\00:06:03.56 With great difficulty, the ship was re-floated and limped back 00:06:03.59\00:06:09.43 the thousands of kilometers to Sydney. 00:06:09.46\00:06:11.77 The Mermaid was sold to the Colonial government in Sydney 00:06:11.80\00:06:15.97 and changed to a two-mast schooner. 00:06:16.00\00:06:18.61 In 1823 under the command of the explorer John Oxley, 00:06:18.64\00:06:24.05 the Mermaid sailed north from Sydney to survey and explore 00:06:24.08\00:06:28.82 the coast of the colony South of Portis Curtis 00:06:28.85\00:06:32.05 now Rock Hampton and Queensland. Oxley discovered the Brisbane 00:06:32.09\00:06:37.13 and Tweed Rivers during that voyage as well as rescuing two 00:06:37.16\00:06:40.80 stranded convicts from the Morton Bay area. 00:06:40.83\00:06:43.83 Thomas Pamphlett and John Finnegan who guided Oxley 00:06:43.87\00:06:48.47 around Morton Bay and along the Brisbane River and the site 00:06:48.50\00:06:52.94 of a new colony that became Brisbane. 00:06:52.97\00:06:55.58 But on the morning of the 10th of May 1829, the Mermaid with a 00:06:55.61\00:07:01.85 crew of 18, including Richard Peterson and three passengers 00:07:01.88\00:07:06.42 under the command of Captain Samuel Nulbro left Sydney 00:07:06.45\00:07:11.13 for Port Eddington. Nulbro was under strict instructions 00:07:11.16\00:07:16.03 to follow the safer but longer passage through the hazardous 00:07:16.06\00:07:20.64 Barrier Reef to the Torres Straight but he decided to risk 00:07:20.67\00:07:24.74 the more dangerous route. 00:07:24.77\00:07:26.37 On the morning of the 13th of June 1829, during a storm 00:07:26.41\00:07:31.98 the Mermaid struck an uncharted Coral Reef, Captain Nulbrow 00:07:32.01\00:07:37.19 gave the order to abandon ship. The crew and passengers 00:07:37.22\00:07:42.32 swam from the shipwreck to a large rocky outcrop about 00:07:42.36\00:07:47.23 60 meters or 200 feet from the wreck. All 21 men huddled on the 00:07:47.26\00:07:53.80 rock for three miserable days until the brigg, the Swiftsure 00:07:53.84\00:07:59.47 rescued the stranded men. 00:07:59.51\00:08:01.34 Now the Swiftsufe had a very interesting history 00:08:01.38\00:08:05.28 it was built in France and launched in 1811 for the 00:08:05.31\00:08:09.78 French Navy under the original name Inconstance which played 00:08:09.82\00:08:14.99 a crucial role in the life of Napoleon Bonaparte 00:08:15.02\00:08:18.39 more than 200 years ago. 00:08:18.43\00:08:20.60 Napoleon Bonaparte regarded by many as one of the greatest 00:08:20.63\00:08:26.70 military commanders in history and was the emperor of France 00:08:26.74\00:08:30.54 1804 to 1814. After losing more than 350,000 men 00:08:30.57\00:08:37.71 ion his march in Russia in 1814 Napoleon abdicated as Empower 00:08:37.75\00:08:44.29 of France and was exiled to the Island of Elba, of the coast 00:08:44.32\00:08:48.22 of Italy. On the 26th of February 1815, Napoleon 00:08:48.26\00:08:54.10 escaped the island on a ship, the Inconstant and was 700 00:08:54.13\00:08:59.43 loyal men marched to Paris where he ruled for 100 days. 00:08:59.47\00:09:04.37 It's believed that the ship Inconstant was taken as apprised 00:09:04.41\00:09:09.58 by the British in the aftermath of the Battle of Waterloo 00:09:09.84\00:09:13.82 rename the Swiftsure and eventually used in the England 00:09:13.85\00:09:17.75 to Australia run. 00:09:17.79\00:09:19.22 So, by 1828 the Inconstant, now named the Swiftsure was sailing 00:09:19.25\00:09:27.03 the waters around Australia and on its way from New South 00:09:27.06\00:09:30.77 Whales to Mauritius, it rescues 21 men from the Mermaid 00:09:30.80\00:09:35.80 on a rocky outcrop and continues it's way north. 00:09:35.84\00:09:39.47 On the fifth day after the rescue on the 4th of July, 1829 00:09:39.51\00:09:45.88 the ship was caught in a powerful current and swept 00:09:45.91\00:09:49.88 broadside onto the rocks along the shore. As the Swiftsure 00:09:49.92\00:09:54.32 begins to break up. The captain orders all to abandon ship. 00:09:54.36\00:09:59.79 Fortunately all 14 crew from the Swiftsure along with the 18 00:09:59.83\00:10:07.17 crew and three passengers from the Mermaid safely made it 00:10:07.20\00:10:11.27 to shore where later that day they were gratefully picked up 00:10:11.31\00:10:15.78 by a third ship a Schooner Governor Ready 00:10:15.81\00:10:19.28 with its own crew of 32 and continued sailing north. 00:10:19.31\00:10:23.65 Now, the Governor Ready had been built on Prince Edward 00:10:23.69\00:10:27.76 Island, Canada in 1825. She was bought by a British owner 00:10:27.79\00:10:33.40 and was registered in Lloyd's Register in 1826 for trade. 00:10:33.43\00:10:39.07 The ship made two voyages transporting convicts 00:10:39.10\00:10:43.20 from England and Ireland to Australia. 00:10:43.24\00:10:46.27 Now these convicts were men and women who were found guilty 00:10:46.31\00:10:51.45 of a petty crime in England during the 18th and 19th 00:10:51.48\00:10:55.08 centuries. Originally they were sent to the American colonies 00:10:56.12\00:10:59.75 but after the American Revolutionary war, 00:10:59.79\00:11:03.39 it was no longer possible to send English criminals there 00:11:03.43\00:11:06.93 as servants so the British the government looked to the newly 00:11:06.96\00:11:10.57 discovered the East coast of Australia as a new colony 00:11:10.60\00:11:14.60 for the prisoners to relieve the over-crowded English 00:11:14.64\00:11:18.24 prisons. The first fleet of convicts sailed for Botany 00:11:18.27\00:11:23.08 Bay in 1787, they were used for free labor in public works 00:11:23.11\00:11:28.72 or assigned to private individuals as domestic servants 00:11:28.75\00:11:33.22 or rural workers. The transportation of convicts to 00:11:33.25\00:11:37.36 Australia lasted for 80 years and ceased in 1868. 00:11:37.39\00:11:42.73 In all about 164,000 people were sent to Australia 00:11:42.76\00:11:49.34 in 806 ships to start a new life. The Governor Ready's 00:11:49.37\00:11:55.38 convict voyage in 1827 trans- ported 131-mile prisoners to 00:11:55.41\00:12:02.18 Tasmania. The ships second convict voyage left from 00:12:02.22\00:12:06.65 Hawkins Island with 200 mile prisoners and sailed for Sydney 00:12:06.69\00:12:11.79 in late 1828. But now on the second of April, 1829 the 00:12:11.83\00:12:18.47 Governor Ready records showed that it left Hobart with 32 crew 00:12:18.50\00:12:23.74 bound for Batavia, present day Jakarta, Indonesia 00:12:23.77\00:12:28.34 with a stop-over in Sydney. As it sailed up the coast 00:12:28.38\00:12:32.48 towards Cape York, it came across the stand of men and 00:12:32.51\00:12:37.42 rescued the entire crew of 18 men and three passengers from 00:12:37.45\00:12:42.16 the wreck of the Mermaid and 14 crew of the Swiftsure. 00:12:42.19\00:12:45.59 Although it was crowded on the vessel, all 67 crew, and 00:12:45.63\00:12:51.07 passenger were relieved to be sailing in such a trustworthy 00:12:51.10\00:12:55.57 ship. But unbelievably, about three hours later the schooner 00:12:55.60\00:13:00.54 the Governor Ready caught fire and the flames roared through 00:13:00.58\00:13:05.75 the wooden ship. 00:13:05.78\00:13:07.12 Everyone on board was forced to abandon ship and climbed 00:13:07.15\00:13:12.32 into the lifeboats. Fortunately they were found drifting in the 00:13:12.35\00:13:17.06 Coral Sea by the Government Cutter The Comet who had also 00:13:17.09\00:13:21.43 been blown off of course by a storm. 00:13:21.46\00:13:24.63 Now, when the crew of the Comet heard the story of the three 00:13:24.67\00:13:28.44 shipwrecks, they didn't welcome their new rescued passengers 00:13:28.47\00:13:33.11 aboard, they were very suspicious and expected trouble. 00:13:33.14\00:13:37.18 They feared that a calamity would befall them also. 00:13:37.21\00:13:41.45 Well, can you believe it, five days later a violent storm 00:13:41.48\00:13:47.89 snapped off the Comet's mast and ripped away her sails. 00:13:47.92\00:13:51.93 When the ship began to sink the 18 crew and three passengers 00:13:51.96\00:13:56.60 from the Mermaid, the 14 crew from the Swiftsure, the 32 crew 00:13:56.63\00:14:01.40 from the Governor Ready and now, the 21 crew from the Comet 00:14:01.44\00:14:06.68 were all facing shipwreck together. 00:14:06.71\00:14:10.01 The only longboat or lifeboat on board was lost but it was not 00:14:10.05\00:14:15.32 but it was not large enough to fit all the crew in it 00:14:15.35\00:14:18.05 so the rest of the passengers kept afloat by clinging to 00:14:18.09\00:14:22.52 driftwood and the ships wreckage. For 18 long hours the 00:14:22.56\00:14:28.76 men in the water drifted in the ocean worried about getting 00:14:28.80\00:14:33.30 separated from each other in the dark of the night or being taken 00:14:33.34\00:14:36.07 by sharks. Then, just as a group of 88 crew and passengers 00:14:36.10\00:14:41.61 saw that there was little chance of rescue along came a 00:14:41.64\00:14:46.18 small vessel called Acatta and they were rescued again 00:14:46.21\00:14:47.55 for the fourth time and not a single life had been lost. 00:14:47.58\00:14:54.92 The fifth ship, the Jupiter was a crew of 38 men were sailing 00:14:54.96\00:15:00.90 to Western Australia when she rescued the 88 crew 00:15:00.93\00:15:04.70 and passengers. It was a small ship and so now was truly 00:15:04.73\00:15:09.70 reaching its capacity with all the extra men on board. 00:15:09.74\00:15:12.87 The men were just settling down for a warm night on deck 00:15:12.91\00:15:17.88 when unbelievably disaster struck yet again. 00:15:17.91\00:15:23.49 The ship hit a small coral reef near Carincross Island 00:15:23.52\00:15:28.26 that tore a hole in the keel and made her unseaworthy. 00:15:28.29\00:15:32.49 Dismayed, the now 123 men of each crew including the five 00:15:32.53\00:15:40.70 captains of the ships and the three passengers a total of 00:15:40.74\00:15:45.61 one hundred twenty-six men found themselves in the water again. 00:15:45.64\00:15:50.08 They managed to find safety on a small sand island 00:15:50.11\00:15:54.48 and all the castaways huddled together on the sandy outcrop 00:15:54.52\00:15:59.09 that's five shipwrecks in a row. 00:15:59.12\00:16:02.82 Fortunately, the passenger ship the City of Leads 00:16:02.86\00:16:08.66 on its way from Sydney was sailing nearby and saw the 00:16:08.70\00:16:14.20 stranded men, five ships had been lost and the crew of the 00:16:14.24\00:16:19.94 Mermaid including Peter Richardson had been shipwrecked 00:16:19.97\00:16:23.45 five times and yet not one life had been lost. 00:16:23.48\00:16:27.42 So here's a short review of the amazing sequence of events. 00:16:27.45\00:16:32.55 In 1829 a ship called the Mermaid was caught in a massive 00:16:32.59\00:16:38.43 storm that struck the ship and drove it into a reef 00:16:38.46\00:16:42.36 all 21 people on board died and were able to swim to safety. 00:16:42.40\00:16:47.24 Three days later, the Swiftsure rescued them, five days later 00:16:47.27\00:16:53.17 the Swiftsure sank. Crew and passengers from both ships 00:16:53.21\00:16:57.28 the Mermaid and the Swiftsure were rescued by the Schooner 00:16:57.31\00:17:01.72 Governor Ready. Three hours later the Governor Ready caught 00:17:01.75\00:17:06.62 fire and sank. The Comet rescued everyone and brought them 00:17:06.65\00:17:12.06 aboard. Five days later the Comet sank, 18 hours later 00:17:12.09\00:17:18.23 the mail boat Jupiter pulled everyone out of the ocean. 00:17:18.27\00:17:22.44 In under 12 hours the Jupiter sank, everyone was rescued 00:17:22.47\00:17:28.48 by the Passenger Vessel the City of Leads that was sailing 00:17:28.51\00:17:32.61 to Sydney where it docked four days later. 00:17:32.65\00:17:35.65 What an incredible sequence of events, what an amazing story. 00:17:35.68\00:17:42.12 The basics of this story were first published in the Sydney 00:17:42.16\00:17:46.26 Gazette and other publications. On the 26 of November 1829 00:17:46.29\00:17:51.63 only a few months after these events took place and so 00:17:51.67\00:17:56.81 the story of the five Ship- wrecks was considered accurate 00:17:56.84\00:18:00.61 and was believed by everyone. But recent research raised this 00:18:00.64\00:18:06.05 questionnaire grading the accuracy of some of the dates 00:18:06.08\00:18:10.45 and details. Now, even more, amazing than these shipwreck 00:18:10.49\00:18:15.32 facts is the story of one of the passengers aboard the City of 00:18:15.36\00:18:19.16 Leads. Remember the English woman who was traveling from 00:18:19.19\00:18:22.90 Whitney to Sydney? Well, her name was Sarah Richardson 00:18:22.93\00:18:27.27 and before she fell ill, she had told her fellow travelers 00:18:27.30\00:18:31.51 on the ship that she was going to Australia in the hopes of 00:18:31.54\00:18:32.87 of finding her son. She was searching for her son Keaton 00:18:32.91\00:18:40.42 who had run away from home and joined the Navy 15 years ago. 00:18:40.45\00:18:44.55 Now, as the survivors of the five shipwrecks were describing 00:18:44.59\00:18:48.89 their harrowing experiences to the passengers on the City 00:18:48.92\00:18:53.13 of Leads, the captain and doctor on board heard some Yorkshire 00:18:53.16\00:18:57.93 accents. Suddenly the doctor on the ship interrupted, 00:18:57.97\00:19:01.94 I need a Yorkshire man about 35 years of age to come with me 00:19:01.97\00:19:06.47 and visit a sick lady, she has prayed for weeks to see her son 00:19:06.51\00:19:10.75 again but this morning she lapsed into unconscious 00:19:10.78\00:19:15.02 for a while. But just now she is calling her son's name again. 00:19:15.05\00:19:21.12 The doctor continued, I think if one of you could just hold 00:19:21.16\00:19:26.16 her hand and tell her you are her son, she might rally enough 00:19:26.19\00:19:30.73 for us to get her safely to Sydney. 00:19:30.77\00:19:33.10 One of the deckhands from the ship Mermaid said 00:19:33.13\00:19:36.67 their be Yorkshire men and Yorkshire men and each area 00:19:36.71\00:19:41.94 has a different accent. Unless you get the right accent 00:19:41.98\00:19:46.25 the old lady will know, it's not her son. 00:19:46.28\00:19:49.42 She is from Whitby replied the ship's doctor, 00:19:49.45\00:19:53.92 then I may be able to help offered a young man. 00:19:53.96\00:19:58.99 I am 34 years old and I am from Whitby. You'll do perfectly 00:19:59.03\00:20:04.87 said the doctor, now just get the name right. 00:20:04.90\00:20:08.70 It's Peter Richardson. Well, the young man's turned white 00:20:08.74\00:20:14.84 and pale, he braced himself against the wall. 00:20:14.88\00:20:18.55 What's wrong with you said the doctor? 00:20:18.58\00:20:21.92 Tears started to run down his cheeks as he stammered, 00:20:21.95\00:20:25.55 I am Peter Richardson, please take me to see my mother. 00:20:25.59\00:20:32.23 When the ailing mother heard the voice of her long-lost son 00:20:32.26\00:20:35.70 her eyes fluttered open and with joy looked into the face 00:20:35.73\00:20:41.30 of her son. The son she loved and had prayed to see 00:20:41.34\00:20:44.47 for 15 long years. 00:20:44.51\00:20:47.38 After five shipwrecks and what seemed like a series of terrible 00:20:47.41\00:20:51.65 misadventures the rescue ship was the very one that the 00:20:51.68\00:20:56.08 praying mother was traveling on in her quest to find her son. 00:20:56.12\00:21:00.69 How true and accurate the story is, I don't know, 00:21:00.72\00:21:05.99 but this I do know. Each of us has a mother whose unconditional 00:21:06.03\00:21:11.90 love has made an impact on our lives. A mother's love for a 00:21:11.93\00:21:17.77 child is one of the deepest and strongest forces in the world 00:21:17.81\00:21:21.81 its impact cannot be measured. 00:21:21.84\00:21:25.35 There's another story of a mother's love, 00:21:27.98\00:21:29.95 of the hopelessness and despair when her son is lost. 00:21:29.98\00:21:33.49 It happened many years ago in the small town of Main 00:21:33.52\00:21:37.53 in Israel, back then the town of Main was known for its 00:21:37.56\00:21:41.46 beauty but this mother couldn't see any of it because her heart 00:21:41.50\00:21:45.70 was broken and filled with sadness. 00:21:45.73\00:21:47.90 Now the village of Main then had only one approach 00:21:47.94\00:21:53.07 up a narrow and rocky road from the east. On this day two groups 00:21:53.11\00:21:58.51 of people met on this road. First, there was a large and 00:21:58.55\00:22:03.55 excited crowd who were following Jesus and His Disciples 00:22:03.59\00:22:07.26 from Capernaum. Now, as this jubilant group neared 00:22:07.29\00:22:11.46 the village gate, a hush fell over the crowd as they met 00:22:11.49\00:22:15.66 another group of people, a funeral procession 00:22:15.70\00:22:20.90 heading in the opposite direction. Heading towards 00:22:20.94\00:22:23.07 the cemetery. As the sorrowing group emerged from the town 00:22:23.10\00:22:27.44 onto the road, you could hear the weeping and wailing of those 00:22:27.48\00:22:32.05 in the group. This poignant sentence tells a sad story. 00:22:32.08\00:22:40.56 At this time in this culture parent's depended on their 00:22:40.59\00:22:49.06 children and especially sons to care for them and support 00:22:49.10\00:22:53.37 them in their old age. Now this grieving mother 00:22:53.40\00:22:58.07 certainly had plenty to weep about. 00:22:58.11\00:23:00.91 The death of her much-loved son meant that not only would she 00:23:00.94\00:23:05.55 be lonely, but also possibly destitute because now 00:23:05.58\00:23:10.89 she lost both her husband and her son. 00:23:10.92\00:23:13.69 She has lost her sole earthy income, support, and comfort, 00:23:13.72\00:23:18.56 she had lost everything. 00:23:18.59\00:23:21.06 As the mother moved on blindly and weeping she did not even see 00:23:21.10\00:23:26.43 the other group approaching until Jesus spoke to her. 00:23:26.47\00:23:29.77 Here's what the Bible says in Luke 7:13. 00:23:29.80\00:23:34.84 Can you sense the gentleness, the understanding, 00:23:42.42\00:23:45.92 the tender sympathy and the personal interest in this mother 00:23:45.95\00:23:50.59 that words reveal? Jesus was about to change her immense 00:23:50.63\00:23:55.63 grief to immense joy. Jesus then reached up and touched 00:23:55.66\00:24:01.94 the beor, the open coffin and signaled for the pall-bearers 00:24:01.97\00:24:06.11 to halt. In a clear or authoritative voice He said 00:24:06.14\00:24:11.58 this. Young man, I say to you "Arise", the dead man opened his 00:24:11.61\00:24:19.42 eyes, sat up and began to talk. And Jesus gave him back to 00:24:19.45\00:24:25.23 his mother. Can you imagine the joy of this reunion? 00:24:25.26\00:24:29.93 Jesus watched as the mother and son unite in a long and loving 00:24:29.96\00:24:35.54 embrace, overwhelmed. the two crowds looked on in silence. 00:24:35.57\00:24:41.54 There is no greater love on earth than a mother's love 00:24:41.58\00:24:46.51 it's enduring, steadfast, and unrelenting. 00:24:46.55\00:24:51.25 Just as we have seen in the experience of Peter Richardson 00:24:51.29\00:24:55.62 his mother's love followed him wherever he went. 00:24:55.66\00:24:59.89 And this kind of love helps us to understand how much God 00:24:59.93\00:25:06.13 loves us. The Bible tells us that God likens His love 00:25:06.17\00:25:12.11 to a mother's love. Here's what it says in Isaiah 66:13. 00:25:12.14\00:25:17.88 No matter what has happened in your life, or where you've 00:25:23.99\00:25:27.79 been, even if you've run away from God, His love will always 00:25:27.82\00:25:32.79 follow you. He'll never leave you or forsake you. 00:25:32.83\00:25:37.00 In Deuteronomy 31:6, God promises us this. 00:25:37.03\00:25:42.60 God will never give up on us His love is forever. 00:25:46.17\00:25:51.95 It can be hard for us to comprehend that kind of love, 00:25:51.98\00:25:56.28 a sacrificing eternal kind of love. A love that led to Calvary 00:25:56.32\00:26:01.16 and endured the Cross to ensure our salvation. 00:26:01.19\00:26:05.59 It's the kind of love that can sustain us through trials 00:26:05.63\00:26:10.07 give us hope, give us long- lasting peace, and give us 00:26:10.10\00:26:14.64 assurance of a better future. 00:26:14.67\00:26:17.61 If you would like to know more about the depth of God's love 00:26:17.64\00:26:22.04 and how it can change your life and bring you peace and 00:26:22.08\00:26:25.58 happiness then I'd like to recommend a free gift we have 00:26:25.61\00:26:28.92 for all our Incredible Journey viewers today. 00:26:28.95\00:26:33.02 It's the book Step's to Christ. 00:26:33.05\00:26:35.89 This short, easy-to-read book will share with you 00:26:35.92\00:26:40.06 how to find and receive God's love. 00:26:40.10\00:26:42.43 This popular book is our gift to you and is absolutely free. 00:26:42.46\00:26:47.14 I guarantee there are no costs or obligations whatsoever. 00:26:47.17\00:26:51.74 So, make the most of this wonderful opportunity to receive 00:26:51.77\00:26:56.34 the free gift we have for you today. 00:26:56.38\00:26:58.95 Phone or text 0436.333.555 in Australia, or 020.422.2042 00:26:58.98\00:27:09.12 in New Zealand or visit our website at TiJ.tv or simply scan 00:27:09.16\00:27:15.00 the QR code on your screen and we'll send you today's 00:27:15.03\00:27:18.67 free offer totally free of charge and with no obligation. 00:27:18.70\00:27:22.44 Write to us a GPO Box 274, Sydney NSW 2001, Australia 00:27:22.47\00:27:29.64 or PO Box 76673 Manukau Auckland, 2241 New Zealand. 00:27:29.68\00:27:36.52 Don't delay, call or text us now. 00:27:36.55\00:27:39.62 Be sure to join us again next week when we will share another 00:27:39.65\00:27:44.69 of life's journey's together, until then, 00:27:44.73\00:27:47.93 let's pray to the God who cares for us and always loves us. 00:27:47.96\00:27:53.03 Dear Heavenly Father, We thank you for your 00:27:53.07\00:27:56.91 unconditional love that follows us in our journey of life. 00:27:56.94\00:28:01.31 Please continue to sustain us through the challenges we face 00:28:01.34\00:28:06.61 and give us the assurance that you will never leave us 00:28:06.65\00:28:09.85 or forsake us.
