This is the full-size replica of perhaps the most famous 00:00:33.19\00:00:38.10 Ice Cream cart in the world. 00:00:38.13\00:00:39.67 One that was used in the first terrorist attack ever 00:00:39.70\00:00:43.71 carried out in Australia. 00:00:43.74\00:00:45.84 On New Year's Day 1915, Badsha Mahommed Gool prepared 00:00:45.87\00:00:52.01 His Ice Cream Cart for its customary foray into the nearby 00:00:52.05\00:00:56.52 town of Broken Hill. Gool's was a familiar fixture around 00:00:56.55\00:01:01.96 town. And locals thought little of it when he wheeled his way 00:01:01.99\00:01:06.06 among them on that sweltering summer day. 00:01:06.09\00:01:09.36 The cart carried a small home- made flag, limp in the stale 00:01:09.40\00:01:14.50 humid air. The flag, a sun- bleached red with a crescent 00:01:14.54\00:01:19.64 and the star on it represented the Ottoman Empire, a state that 00:01:19.67\00:01:24.25 Gool had fought for as a soldier. On that particular 00:01:24.28\00:01:27.92 January day Gool wasn't just transporting ice cream in his 00:01:27.95\00:01:32.45 cart. Its contents also included deadly weapons. 00:01:32.49\00:01:37.43 Beside him set another man, not as familiar as Gool but 00:01:37.46\00:01:42.16 also a Broken Hill resident none-the-less. 00:01:42.20\00:01:45.07 The man Mullah Abdullah was a local Imam in Pallah Butcha 00:01:45.10\00:01:50.57 driving the cart a short distance outside of town, 00:01:50.61\00:01:54.31 they rolled to a stop along a deserted stretch of road 00:01:54.34\00:01:58.55 not far from the train tracks. 00:01:58.58\00:02:00.42 Leaving the cart behind Gool and Abdullah walked to an 00:02:00.45\00:02:05.39 embankment about 30 meters from the tracks where they 00:02:05.42\00:02:08.89 settled in to wait. 00:02:08.92\00:02:10.73 Around the corner having just passed through Broken Hill 00:02:10.76\00:02:14.70 the local Silverton train way train chugged into view. 00:02:14.73\00:02:19.60 The train was carrying passengers to the annual 00:02:19.63\00:02:23.04 New Year's Day Picnic in nearby Silverton. 00:02:23.07\00:02:26.01 About 1,200 picnickers were crammed into forty opened 00:02:26.04\00:02:31.41 ore trucks pulled along by a steam engine. As the train 00:02:31.45\00:02:36.05 neared their position, Gool and Abdullah pulled out two 00:02:36.08\00:02:39.69 rifles flipped onto their bellies, and opened fire on the 00:02:39.72\00:02:43.69 train. They got off a total of about 30 shots, at first the 00:02:43.73\00:02:49.43 picnickers thought the shots were part of their outing. 00:02:49.46\00:02:52.77 Perhaps a gun salute to hail their passing train, 00:02:52.80\00:02:56.74 or a staged fight or even target practice with blanks 00:02:56.77\00:03:01.38 instead of live rounds. 00:03:01.41\00:03:03.18 Their relation was short- lived however when they saw 00:03:03.21\00:03:08.22 other passengers on board the train jerking and falling 00:03:08.25\00:03:11.95 to the ground blood beneath their bodies as the bullets 00:03:11.99\00:03:15.96 found their marks. 00:03:15.99\00:03:18.19 In the ensuing panic, Gool and Abdullah calmly rose from 00:03:18.23\00:03:22.66 their positions made their way back to the Ice Cream cart 00:03:22.70\00:03:26.80 and high-tailed it towards home. They had just engineered and 00:03:26.84\00:03:31.77 spear-headed the first terrorist attack on Australian soil 00:03:31.81\00:03:36.11 while the country was in the thick of World War I. 00:03:36.14\00:03:39.31 This week, we'll take a look at not only the Broken Hill 00:03:39.35\00:03:44.19 terror attack but a handful of other terror attacks 00:03:44.22\00:03:47.79 throughout history. 00:03:47.82\00:03:49.16 What is the common thread that binds them all 00:03:49.19\00:03:53.96 and how can we find peace in the midst of the turmoil 00:03:54.00\00:03:57.30 we live in? Join me as we embark on yet another 00:03:57.33\00:04:02.30 Incredible Journey. 00:04:02.34\00:04:04.07 On the first of January 1915 1,200 men, women, and children 00:04:25.99\00:04:32.00 boarded the Silverton Tramway Company train consisting of a 00:04:32.03\00:04:37.67 Y-12 locomotive and 40 open ore trucks to travel to 00:04:37.71\00:04:43.14 Silverton for their annual New Year's Day picnic. 00:04:43.18\00:04:46.01 The crowded train of excited people departed Sulphide Street 00:04:46.05\00:04:52.65 Station at 10:00 a.m. Shortly after the departure about 1 km 00:04:52.69\00:05:00.16 down the track, the train and its passengers were ambushed 00:05:00.20\00:05:04.73 and attacked by Badsha Gool and Mullah Abdulla who fired 00:05:04.77\00:05:09.60 shots from near their Ice Cream Cart on which the Turkish flag 00:05:09.64\00:05:13.78 was attached. 00:05:13.81\00:05:15.14 When Gool and Abdullah opened fire on the train of 00:05:15.18\00:05:18.68 unsuspecting picnickers on that New Year's Day 1915 00:05:18.71\00:05:22.98 they were hoping for casualties. They aimed to kill, 00:05:23.02\00:05:27.62 they didn't just spray the train with a hail of bullets, 00:05:27.66\00:05:31.33 as a warning but as a calculated assault. 00:05:31.36\00:05:35.16 One of the bullets smashed into 17-year-old Alma Cowie's 00:05:35.20\00:05:40.34 head, killing her instantly. She slumped against her 00:05:40.37\00:05:44.54 boyfriend Carrie O'Brien who watched in growing horror 00:05:44.57\00:05:48.58 as her blood pooled over him. 00:05:48.61\00:05:50.81 Alma Cowie wasn't the only one shot, William John Shaw a 00:05:50.85\00:05:56.72 foreman in the Sanitary Department was also killed. 00:05:56.75\00:06:00.82 While his daughter Lucy Shaw was injured, six other people 00:06:00.86\00:06:05.39 on the train were injured as well. 00:06:05.43\00:06:07.30 The conductor on the train "Tiger" Dick Nyholm 00:06:07.33\00:06:11.63 happened to be a crack shot whipping out his rifle 00:06:11.67\00:06:15.64 he returned fire on Gool and Abdulla and proved to be 00:06:15.67\00:06:19.77 instrumental in protecting the trains passengers from 00:06:19.81\00:06:24.08 further harm. 00:06:24.11\00:06:25.45 The victims of the Broken Hill train shooting were the first 00:06:25.48\00:06:31.05 to fall in an act of terrorism perpetrated on home soil. 00:06:31.09\00:06:36.36 They were also the first Australian casualties 00:06:36.39\00:06:40.10 to fall on home soil under attack from an enemy 00:06:40.13\00:06:43.33 during World War I. The unexpected and vicious attack 00:06:43.37\00:06:48.57 captured the attention of the nation and the soldiers 00:06:48.60\00:06:52.14 who were fighting overseas? 00:06:52.17\00:06:54.01 In an aggressive move then Attorney Billy Hughes called for 00:06:54.04\00:07:00.08 the internment of all enemy nationals. 00:07:00.12\00:07:03.18 One young Victorian Anzac stationed overseas 00:07:03.22\00:07:07.39 wrote to the people of Broken Hill telling them 00:07:07.42\00:07:18.13 The Gallipoli landing still lay ahead and thought on that 00:07:18.17\00:07:23.20 New Year's Day the war was far away from Broken Hill 00:07:23.24\00:07:26.71 it left a calling card in the sleepy back town all the same. 00:07:26.74\00:07:32.31 When Goola and Abdullah planned their attack they chose a 00:07:32.35\00:07:37.25 prime location. The area around the stretch of track 00:07:37.29\00:07:41.39 they ambushed had little cover. Forty years of mining had 00:07:41.42\00:07:46.43 cleared the saltbush and the trees to be used as firewood. 00:07:46.46\00:07:50.43 They had also chosen the perfect target, the Manchester 00:07:50.47\00:07:54.67 Unit Picnic was an annual event and that year they were 00:07:54.70\00:07:58.67 picnicking in Silverton. The 1,200 residents who 00:07:58.71\00:08:03.58 clamored into the freshly swept ore trucks fitted with 00:08:03.61\00:08:07.25 benches were sitting ducks in the open carriages. 00:08:07.28\00:08:11.25 When the attack ended and the dust settled, there were 00:08:11.29\00:08:15.46 ten casualties, four of them died. In the ensuing panic 00:08:15.49\00:08:20.83 some of the adults flung them- selves protectively across 00:08:20.86\00:08:24.23 children while others jumped off the slow-moving carriages 00:08:24.27\00:08:28.00 and bolted for safety. 00:08:28.04\00:08:29.64 As the train with its screaming and traumatized passengers 00:08:29.67\00:08:34.48 drifted out of sight, Gool and Abdulla grabbed up their 00:08:34.51\00:08:39.31 weapons and ran. 00:08:39.35\00:08:41.28 They were armed with an ancient martini henry breech loading 00:08:41.32\00:08:46.05 rifle, a Snyder Enfield Carbine, a revolver and a homemade 00:08:46.09\00:08:51.26 bullet pouch. 00:08:51.29\00:08:52.63 The death and carnage caused by the two terrorists 00:08:52.66\00:08:57.47 and their weapons is remembered today by one of the open ore 00:08:57.50\00:09:01.87 railway wagons that stand at the ambush site. 00:09:01.90\00:09:04.94 From here Gool and Abdulla set out on their escape beat 00:09:04.97\00:09:10.51 They headed for this small course outcrop is known today as 00:09:10.55\00:09:15.32 White Rocks Reserve located about 2 km away. Gool and 00:09:15.35\00:09:20.99 Abdulla's attack was born out of misplaced nationalism 00:09:21.02\00:09:25.39 and religious zeal. 00:09:25.43\00:09:26.76 At the time of the attack Broken Hill was a mining town that had 00:09:26.80\00:09:32.17 basically been built on the backs of camels. Camels were 00:09:32.20\00:09:36.27 cheaper by far than bullets and cameleers, the handlers 00:09:36.30\00:09:40.58 and drivers were a common sight in the outback. However despite 00:09:40.61\00:09:44.91 the huge demand for their services cameleers were an 00:09:44.95\00:09:48.95 ostracized group. Though British subjects, they were denied union 00:09:48.98\00:09:53.86 membership and confined to camel camps on the outskirts 00:09:53.89\00:09:55.22 of town with their animals. 00:09:55.26\00:09:59.59 Local newspapers ran angry articles calling for the 00:09:59.63\00:10:04.17 expulsion of what they labeled the Afghan menace and there was 00:10:04.20\00:10:09.04 decided undercurrent of animosity towards cameleers 00:10:09.07\00:10:13.21 and Afghan's in general. 00:10:13.24\00:10:15.14 By 1915 Broken Hill had become a township built in its 00:10:15.18\00:10:20.58 lucrative lead, zinc, and silver mines, but it was also 00:10:20.62\00:10:25.09 a town that was isolated and somewhat wary about outsiders 00:10:25.12\00:10:29.99 both Abdulla and Gool had been subjected to a handful of 00:10:30.03\00:10:34.96 attacks against them which were mostly based on their 00:10:35.00\00:10:38.67 ethnicity. However despite the animosity, neither man was 00:10:38.70\00:10:44.11 know to have retaliated against such a tax in the past. 00:10:44.14\00:10:47.78 The Sydney Morning Herald reported a case 00:10:47.81\00:10:51.48 where children had thrown stones at Abdulla because he was 00:10:51.51\00:10:54.72 a cameleer. But other than complaining to the police, 00:10:54.75\00:10:59.29 he had done little else. 00:10:59.32\00:11:01.06 Bachad Mohamad Gool was born around 1874 in what is now 00:11:01.09\00:11:07.76 Afghanistan, he came to Australia as a cameleer and then 00:11:07.80\00:11:12.33 shortly after federation traveled to Turkey to fight 00:11:12.37\00:11:16.47 for the Ottoman Empire Army. After his brief stint in the 00:11:16.50\00:11:21.94 army Gool returned to Australia and took up working in the mines 00:11:21.98\00:11:26.45 but when mineral prices bottomed out during the war 00:11:26.48\00:11:30.45 and work in the mines dwindled he took to hawking? ice cream 00:11:30.49\00:11:34.86 from a cart. 00:11:34.89\00:11:36.22 Mullah Abdulla was born in 1855 near the famous Khyber Pass 00:11:36.26\00:11:41.33 in the province of modern-day Pakistan, sitting on the border 00:11:41.36\00:11:45.70 with Afghanistan. After migrating to Australia, he found 00:11:45.73\00:11:50.67 work as the Imam in Halibutcha for the Broken Hill camel camp. 00:11:50.71\00:11:55.31 The Broken Hill attack was a combination of Nationalism 00:11:55.34\00:12:00.48 and religious zeal fueled up by pent-up frustration over 00:12:00.52\00:12:04.65 personal circumstances and discriminatory treatment 00:12:04.69\00:12:08.46 that both men experience. For example, just days before 00:12:08.49\00:12:12.96 the picnic train attack, Abdullah had been fined 00:12:12.99\00:12:16.97 for killing sheep off licensed premises by a council sentry 00:12:17.00\00:12:21.60 officer. Interestingly, one of the victims of the train attack 00:12:21.64\00:12:26.31 was the foreman of the sanitary department William Shore. 00:12:26.34\00:12:30.98 Gool and Abdullah's attack against innocent unarmed 00:12:31.01\00:12:35.32 civilians out for a day of fun in the sun was not only 00:12:35.35\00:12:40.09 an appalling violent crime it was also unconscionable. 00:12:40.12\00:12:44.36 And while violence and hate are never an appropriate response 00:12:44.39\00:12:49.26 their actions are rooted in a far deeper overarching issue. 00:12:49.30\00:12:54.24 As human beings we are inherently weary of 00:12:54.27\00:12:58.61 anything that is not in keeping with our own cultural ideologies 00:12:58.64\00:13:02.74 and values that wearing us can turn into an animosity 00:13:02.78\00:13:07.92 and a sense of condescension, especially when we feel that 00:13:07.95\00:13:12.42 those who are not like us are also beneath us. 00:13:12.45\00:13:16.02 Racism is not just the matter the color of someone's skin 00:13:16.06\00:13:21.66 though that often does play a role. Racism is a hatred 00:13:21.70\00:13:26.10 against anything that is dissimilar to what we are 00:13:26.13\00:13:29.80 accustomed to and the root of racism is not so much an issue 00:13:29.84\00:13:34.54 of skin as it is the universal problem of sin that we're 00:13:34.58\00:13:39.38 all afflicted by. You've probably heard the saying... 00:13:39.41\00:13:48.09 Once Gool and Abdullah's attack ended, 00:13:48.12\00:13:50.96 panic broke out. On their way back to their camp Gool and 00:13:50.99\00:13:55.76 Abdullah killed another man Alfred E. Miller before making 00:13:55.80\00:14:00.27 their way back home. 00:14:00.30\00:14:01.64 Meanwhile, the train had pulled over deciding and the 00:14:01.67\00:14:05.34 police were contacted, the police in turn contacted the 00:14:05.37\00:14:09.11 local military base and a small force of police and local 00:14:09.14\00:14:12.81 the militia were mustered. They launched a search for 00:14:12.85\00:14:16.12 the attackers and encountered them in the area near the 00:14:16.15\00:14:21.12 Cable Hotel. The pair opened fire on the authorities wounding 00:14:21.16\00:14:25.79 one of the police officers. Gool and Abdullah then took 00:14:25.83\00:14:30.27 shelter behind this outcropping of wide ports and settled in 00:14:30.30\00:14:35.30 for a protracted siege. A three-hour gun battle followed 00:14:35.34\00:14:39.57 during which armed civilians came to the aide of the military 00:14:39.61\00:14:43.78 and law enforcement. 00:14:43.81\00:14:45.21 Towards the end of the battle only a thin stream of gunfire 00:14:45.25\00:14:50.19 came from Gool and Abdullah's hiding place. Police surmised 00:14:50.22\00:14:55.32 that one of them was most likely dead while the other was 00:14:55.36\00:14:58.26 wounded. A local man James Craig who lived behind the Cable Hotel 00:14:58.29\00:15:05.03 went out to chop wood during the gun battle and was hit 00:15:05.07\00:15:08.44 by a stray bullet, he became the fourth person to die 00:15:08.47\00:15:13.24 that day. Around 1:00 in the afternoon, law enforcement 00:15:13.27\00:15:18.91 and military personnel decided to storm Gool and Abdullah's 00:15:18.95\00:15:23.22 shelter. An eyewitness later afforded that Gool had stood up 00:15:23.25\00:15:28.16 but was gunned down. A note found on Gool's body 00:15:28.19\00:15:32.49 stated that he was a subject of the Ottoman Sultan 00:15:32.53\00:15:36.87 and that he was compelled to carry out the attack 00:15:36.90\00:15:40.44 in the name of his faith. Abdullah's note stated 00:15:40.47\00:15:44.64 much the same with a side note about his hatred 00:15:44.67\00:15:48.41 for the Chief Sanitary inspector who had fined him and him 00:15:48.44\00:15:51.98 and his intention to kill him first. 00:15:52.01\00:15:55.08 Turkish sources later claimed that the letters were planted 00:15:55.12\00:15:59.45 and the incident was pinned on the Turks to rally the 00:15:59.49\00:16:03.19 Australian public for the war effort. 00:16:03.22\00:16:05.73 In retaliation against the attack, local mobs converged 00:16:05.76\00:16:11.03 on migrant establishments attributing the actions of 00:16:11.07\00:16:14.94 Gool and Abdullah to be representative of what they 00:16:14.97\00:16:19.24 believed to be enemy aliens. On the evening of the attack 00:16:19.27\00:16:24.58 a German club in Broken Hill was attacked and burnt to the 00:16:24.61\00:16:27.88 ground. The incensed mob went so far as to cut the hoses 00:16:27.92\00:16:33.25 of the firemen who came to fight the flames ensuring that 00:16:33.29\00:16:37.53 the club could not be spared. The mob then marched to a 00:16:37.56\00:16:42.00 nearby camp of Afghan camel drivers but was prevented 00:16:42.03\00:16:46.00 from attacking the settlement by the police and military 00:16:46.03\00:16:49.60 performed a protective barrier between them and the terrified 00:16:49.64\00:16:50.97 inhabitants of the camp. 00:16:51.01\00:16:55.78 The next day the mines in Broken Hill fired all immigrant 00:16:55.81\00:17:01.95 employees categorized as enemy aliens under the 00:17:01.98\00:17:06.42 1914 Commonwealth War Precautions Act. 00:17:06.45\00:17:07.79 Simultaneously seeks Austrians, four Germans, and one Turk 00:17:07.82\00:17:16.30 were ordered to leave Broken Hill by the enraged 00:17:16.33\00:17:19.80 local community. Not long after all migrants who were deemed 00:17:19.83\00:17:25.57 to be a threat to National Security during wartime 00:17:25.61\00:17:29.11 in Australia were interred in camps for the duration of 00:17:29.14\00:17:33.52 the war. 00:17:33.55\00:17:34.88 The story of the attack at Broken Hill raises a multitude 00:17:34.92\00:17:39.35 of questions four most among them is this. 00:17:39.39\00:17:42.92 Do the actions of a handful of individuals represent the 00:17:42.96\00:17:47.60 actions and ideology of the entire community they belong to? 00:17:47.63\00:17:52.43 Did the actions of the two camel drivers represent the feelings 00:17:52.47\00:17:58.14 of the entire Afghan community in Australia? 00:17:58.17\00:18:01.31 Did they represent the feeling of the entire German and 00:18:01.34\00:18:04.91 Austrian community in Australia? 00:18:04.95\00:18:07.78 And did the racially motivated discrimination that many Afghan 00:18:07.82\00:18:12.25 cameleers faced represent the sentiments of the entire 00:18:12.29\00:18:16.36 population of Broken Hill? 00:18:16.39\00:18:18.36 Well, the answer to these questions is an obvious NO! 00:18:18.39\00:18:23.30 The actions of a handful of individuals don't represent 00:18:23.33\00:18:27.54 the community or ethnic group they belong to 00:18:27.57\00:18:30.97 but in many cases, as human beings. it's easy for us to 00:18:31.01\00:18:36.04 lump people together under a single banner and pigeonhole 00:18:36.08\00:18:40.68 them based on the actions of people who look or speak 00:18:40.72\00:18:44.45 like them. More often than not racism and discrimination 00:18:44.49\00:18:50.76 are not so much a matter of skin as of sin. 00:18:50.79\00:18:55.10 Even though in some instances skin plays a part. 00:18:55.13\00:18:59.27 On a great many occasions discrimination and racial 00:18:59.30\00:19:03.30 prejudice has nothing to do with the color of one's skin. 00:19:03.34\00:19:07.04 In 1994 over a period of roughly of 100 days 00:19:07.08\00:19:12.75 members of the Tutsi Minority was slaughtered without remorse 00:19:12.78\00:19:17.15 by members of the armed Tutu Mission in Rwanda. 00:19:17.19\00:19:20.89 It was one of the bloodiest instances of genocide 00:19:20.92\00:19:24.79 the world has ever seen. 00:19:24.83\00:19:26.59 Estimates place the death toll of the genocide between 500,000 00:19:26.63\00:19:32.33 and 800,000 Tutsis. The Rwandan genocide 00:19:32.37\00:19:34.30 was racially motivated but had nothing to do with skin color 00:19:34.34\00:19:41.91 it had its basis in tribal violence and ethnic prejudice. 00:19:41.94\00:19:47.35 Similarly in Sri Lanka in 1983 ethnic tensions led to a brutal 00:19:47.38\00:19:54.02 killing spree of civilians. Dubbed black July the 1983 00:19:54.06\00:19:59.86 riots were triggered by a Tamil Militant Group killing 00:19:59.89\00:20:03.77 thirteen Sri Lankan Army soldiers. 00:20:03.80\00:20:06.13 In response anti-Tamil riots took place on the night of 00:20:06.17\00:20:11.24 the 24th of July in the capital city of Columba and continued 00:20:11.27\00:20:16.11 over a period of seven days where Sinhalese mobs 00:20:16.14\00:20:20.48 attacked, looted, burned, and killed Tamil targets 00:20:20.52\00:20:24.79 The death toll climbed into the thousands and over 100,000 00:20:24.82\00:20:30.53 people were displaced and had to flee their homes. 00:20:30.56\00:20:33.56 Again, like the Rwandan Genocide, the Sri Lankan riots 00:20:33.60\00:20:39.13 were based solely on ethnicity. 00:20:39.17\00:20:42.34 Another stark and universally known instance of genocide 00:20:42.37\00:20:46.61 is Hitler's treatment of the Jews during World-War II. 00:20:46.64\00:20:50.38 An estimated six million Jews were murdered by the Nazis 00:20:50.41\00:20:55.02 during the Holocaust and other un-numbered were brutalized. 00:20:55.05\00:20:58.89 The common thread that weaves through all these narratives 00:20:58.92\00:21:03.09 is this. When on racial, ethnic, or religious group feels 00:21:03.12\00:21:08.73 superior to another the result is always discrimination and 00:21:08.76\00:21:13.54 violence. It's not just a story of racism, but a story of 00:21:13.57\00:21:18.67 human pride gone rogue. 00:21:18.71\00:21:20.98 The sad reality is that as human beings, we are all steeped 00:21:21.01\00:21:27.58 in a disease that the Bible calls sin. Sin is best described 00:21:27.62\00:21:33.39 in Isaiah 14:13, 14 where the Bible explains the fall of 00:21:33.42\00:21:40.56 Lucifer and the attitude he cherished in his heart 00:21:40.60\00:21:43.90 that led to his fall. Here's what it says. 00:21:43.93\00:22:10.39 You see, the root cause of sin is pride. Did you notice that 00:22:10.43\00:22:15.20 Lucifer had an I problem. I, I, I. The kind of pride that 00:22:15.23\00:22:23.14 leaves us to believe we are better than someone else 00:22:23.17\00:22:25.97 simply because of the way we look, think, act, or talk 00:22:26.01\00:22:30.05 or even because of what we believe. It's this kind of pride 00:22:30.08\00:22:35.55 that leads to racism, discrimination, and the kind 00:22:35.58\00:22:39.69 of nationalism that can lead to acts of violence and 00:22:39.72\00:22:43.29 terrorism. And this kind of pride is not something that 00:22:43.32\00:22:47.70 is not isolated to a single demographic of people. 00:22:47.73\00:22:51.83 This kind of pride is engrained in every human heart. 00:22:51.87\00:22:56.40 because the Bible says in Romans 3:23. 00:22:56.44\00:23:05.75 others but the Bible tells us plainly that there is no room 00:23:12.59\00:23:17.86 for this kind of pride. In fact, racism in all its forms 00:23:17.89\00:23:23.50 be it discrimination against someone because of the color 00:23:23.53\00:23:27.20 of their skin or their ethnicity or their beliefs is something 00:23:27.24\00:23:32.84 the Bible always denounces. 00:23:32.87\00:23:35.74 In Galatians 3:28, the Bible says. 00:23:35.78\00:23:51.99 You see, the Bible teaches us that we are not to discriminate 00:23:52.03\00:23:58.27 between ethnic groups, cultural ideologies or social status. 00:23:58.30\00:24:03.84 The ground is level at the foot of the cross and we are 00:24:03.87\00:24:08.98 to treat each other accordingly without discrimination, hate, 00:24:09.01\00:24:13.31 or bigotry. Each of us has been created in the image of God 00:24:13.35\00:24:18.39 and saved by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, 00:24:18.42\00:24:22.26 it is this alone that gives us value. 00:24:22.29\00:24:25.83 Though we form different nations speak different languages, 00:24:25.86\00:24:30.23 and have different cultural values, the Bible tells us 00:24:30.27\00:24:34.27 that God has made us of one blood. There is no room for 00:24:34.30\00:24:38.97 discrimination in God's sight, we are all His children, 00:24:39.01\00:24:43.78 all equally valued in His sight. 00:24:43.81\00:24:48.08 The good news of Jesus' life, death and resurrection is a 00:24:48.12\00:24:52.45 message that is applicable to the entire human race 00:24:52.49\00:24:56.19 and must be shared with all. God wants us to understand that 00:24:56.22\00:25:01.13 in His eyes, we are all equal, none of us is better than 00:25:01.16\00:25:06.23 the other. The desire to exalt ourselves above someone else 00:25:06.27\00:25:11.34 is a result of sin and it is a malady that plagues all of us. 00:25:11.37\00:25:16.91 The truth is no demographic is more racist or discriminatory 00:25:16.95\00:25:22.82 than any other. All of us given the right conditions have within 00:25:22.85\00:25:28.69 us the capacity to be racist. This is exactly why we need 00:25:28.72\00:25:33.73 the good news of salvation. It is through Jesus alone 00:25:33.76\00:25:38.17 that we can choose to treat each other with the kindness 00:25:38.20\00:25:42.40 dignity and respect we all deserve. 00:25:42.44\00:25:45.21 It is through Jesus alone that we can value each other 00:25:45.24\00:25:49.94 without consideration of race, social standing, religion, 00:25:49.98\00:25:55.08 or ethnic background. The Biblical account of creation 00:25:55.12\00:26:00.09 and salvation places us all on an equal footing and makes us 00:26:00.12\00:26:05.86 all sons and daughters of God, heir's to the promise of 00:26:05.89\00:26:10.03 eternal life through Jesus Christ and the hope that He 00:26:10.07\00:26:13.64 gives us for true transformation of character. 00:26:13.67\00:26:18.07 Jesus offers us all the opportunity for transformation 00:26:18.11\00:26:23.11 He gives us the opportunity to look at each other 00:26:23.14\00:26:27.35 through His eyes to see human beings made in the image of God 00:26:27.38\00:26:32.72 inherently valuable because they are God's children. 00:26:32.75\00:26:36.93 If you'd like to find out more about God's unconditional love 00:26:38.36\00:26:41.86 for us and His plans for a future where peace, love, 00:26:41.90\00:26:45.87 and joy will reign supreme then I'd like to recommend 00:26:45.90\00:26:50.07 a free gift we have for all our Incredible Journey viewers 00:26:50.11\00:26:54.61 today.
