¤ ¤ 00:00:02.20\00:00:24.32 Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a brain 00:00:24.35\00:00:28.22 like Einstein's, to be able to create complex theories and 00:00:28.26\00:00:33.06 formulas that could change the world in some remarkable way? 00:00:33.09\00:00:37.30 Well it's been reported that an exceptionally bright 11-year-old 00:00:37.33\00:00:41.47 girl in England scored two points higher than the famed 00:00:41.50\00:00:45.27 scientists 00:00:45.31\00:00:46.81 Albert Einstein and Steven Hawkings on an IQ test. Those 00:00:46.84\00:00:51.58 results are nothing short of remarkable. But for the rest of 00:00:51.61\00:00:56.45 us we struggle to get our head around algebraic equations. What 00:00:56.48\00:01:01.52 are our chances of changing the world. Now as important as IQ is 00:01:01.56\00:01:06.73 it turns out that IQ tests are notoriously bad at predicting a 00:01:06.76\00:01:11.90 person's success or failure in life and that scoring a high EQ 00:01:11.93\00:01:17.37 or emotional quotient is a better indicator for success. 00:01:17.41\00:01:21.61 Stay tuned to learn how you can develop both your IQ and your 00:01:21.64\00:01:27.92 EQ from an expert in this field. 00:01:27.95\00:01:30.49 ¤ ¤ 00:01:30.52\00:01:51.51 Today we are visiting the office of Dr. Neal Nedley, a U.S. based 00:01:51.54\00:01:55.41 practicing physician that focuses on mental health and 00:01:55.44\00:01:59.28 lifestyle 00:01:59.31\00:02:00.65 medicine. Dr. Nedley is renowned for his work on emotional 00:02:00.68\00:02:03.92 intelligence as a life success indicator and has published 00:02:03.95\00:02:07.72 research on how EQ can be increased. He also teaches 00:02:07.76\00:02:12.26 practical methods on how to enhance your intelligence and 00:02:12.29\00:02:16.20 improve your memory. Dr. Nedley thank you so much for taking 00:02:16.23\00:02:20.57 time out of your busy schedule to join us today. We've been led 00:02:20.60\00:02:24.74 to believe that our IQ or level of intelligence is the indicator 00:02:24.77\00:02:30.35 of how successful we can be in life. Is this the case or is 00:02:30.38\00:02:35.18 more to understand about intelligence? 00:02:35.22\00:02:38.32 Well intelligence is actually our capacity to learn, retain 00:02:38.35\00:02:43.09 apply knowledge It sounds simple but it's pretty involved. So 00:02:43.12\00:02:48.10 we have to not only learn it but we have to retain it so that 00:02:48.13\00:02:51.10 means the memory has to be involved. And then our brains 00:02:51.13\00:02:54.54 have to be working well to know how to apply it, maybe in new 00:02:54.57\00:02:58.41 settings, in outside-the-box type thinking and that's what 00:02:58.44\00:03:03.85 can produce amazing success. But actually our success and 00:03:03.88\00:03:09.22 fulfillment in life is more related to, as important as IQ 00:03:09.25\00:03:14.62 is, it's actually related even more so to something that we 00:03:14.66\00:03:19.06 have discovered called EQ. EQ is our emotional intelligence and 00:03:19.09\00:03:24.87 our emotional intelligence is actually our ability to know and 00:03:24.90\00:03:30.14 understand our emotions and the emotions of others and respond 00:03:30.17\00:03:36.04 to those emotions in a healthy way. So we have found out as 00:03:36.08\00:03:42.25 important as IQ is, if we have just an average IQ but we have 00:03:42.28\00:03:47.42 high EQ, we will actually have more success, fulfillment and 00:03:47.46\00:03:52.09 happiness than if we have a high IQ and an average EQ. But both 00:03:52.13\00:03:58.37 can be improved upon because our brains have the capability of 00:03:58.40\00:04:02.77 what we call neuroplasticity. They can change. So our goal in 00:04:02.80\00:04:08.64 life, in fact it probably should be a top priority for every 00:04:08.68\00:04:11.65 human being, is to improve our IQ and our EQ. 00:04:11.68\00:04:17.22 We're very interested in learning how to enhance our EQ, 00:04:17.25\00:04:21.62 and we'd love you to discuss that in more detail shortly. 00:04:21.66\00:04:25.09 However, many of our viewers would also love to increase 00:04:25.13\00:04:29.20 their intelligence and their memory. Is it actually possible 00:04:29.23\00:04:33.60 to increase our IQ? 00:04:33.64\00:04:35.94 Well it actually is. Our IQ and EQ are 00:04:35.97\00:04:39.84 improved together by enhancing the front part of our brain, the 00:04:39.87\00:04:45.31 frontal lobe of our brain. That's where IQ and EQ come 00:04:45.35\00:04:48.45 together. Now there are some IQ thing that don't have to do with 00:04:48.48\00:04:52.22 the frontal lobe. You know Einstein had a little better 00:04:52.25\00:04:54.66 parietal lobe for instance. This is where calculations, language 00:04:54.69\00:04:59.03 subtraction, division, those sorts of things are there in 00:04:59.06\00:05:02.76 the parietal lobe. Memory is our temporal lobe. That's the 00:05:02.80\00:05:06.37 side portion of our brain. But the emotional part of our brain 00:05:06.40\00:05:11.81 we think of it being inside the brain called the limbic system 00:05:11.84\00:05:15.51 and yes that is where emotions are experienced. But our 00:05:15.54\00:05:19.95 emotional intelligence part is actually the frontal lobe of our 00:05:19.98\00:05:23.69 brain and this is also the analytical portion of our brain 00:05:23.72\00:05:28.29 that has so much to do with IQ. So if we want to improve both 00:05:28.32\00:05:31.89 of them together we are going to want to do some behaviors 00:05:31.93\00:05:37.07 and some thoughts to enhance the frontal lobe of our brain. The 00:05:37.10\00:05:41.27 behaviors that can improve the frontal lobe of the brain have 00:05:41.30\00:05:44.41 to do with regular physical exercise, getting adequate 00:05:44.44\00:05:48.71 sleep, particularly, if possible early to bed, early to rise 00:05:48.74\00:05:52.98 gives us an IQ and an EQ advantage. In addition to that, 00:05:53.01\00:05:59.52 experiencing things that can help the frontal lobe like 00:05:59.55\00:06:03.69 melodic classical music and the frontal lobe is also where the 00:06:03.73\00:06:09.36 spiritual part of the brain is. Now our worshipful experience 00:06:09.40\00:06:13.54 and our devotions, our prayer life can actually enhance the 00:06:13.57\00:06:19.07 frontal lobe of the brain and help our ability to manage our 00:06:19.11\00:06:23.21 emotions and to understand them better as well. So that's the 00:06:23.24\00:06:26.98 behavioral part. But there is also a thinking part and we 00:06:27.02\00:06:32.25 often deal with the behavioral part first. We actually have a 00:06:32.29\00:06:35.59 program that we've developed for people to enhance in both 00:06:35.62\00:06:38.79 things and the 00:06:38.83\00:06:40.16 first part of the program has to do with behavioral issues. In 00:06:40.20\00:06:42.66 fact, one of the is mentioned is working with your hands in three 00:06:42.70\00:06:48.40 dimensions. So learning how to play tennis, gardening, you know 00:06:48.44\00:06:54.91 even washing your dishes. You know, our dishwashers I call 00:06:54.94\00:06:58.88 them, implanted frontal lobe suppressors in our homes, 00:06:58.91\00:07:02.85 because we're not really working with our hands in 3D and so if 00:07:02.88\00:07:07.12 you don't know how you can work with your hands in three 00:07:07.16\00:07:09.62 dimensions at least 20 or 30 minutes a day, don't use your 00:07:09.66\00:07:13.23 dishwasher anymore. So things that can help us to repetitively 00:07:13.26\00:07:19.10 work with our hands in 3D have been shown to actually improve 00:07:19.13\00:07:22.24 our IQ and our EQ by improving the frontal lobe. But then after 00:07:22.27\00:07:27.11 we get the good circulation of our frontal lobe going then we 00:07:27.14\00:07:31.21 get to the software of our brain. The behavioral part helps 00:07:31.25\00:07:34.75 the hardware of our brain but now we have to get the right 00:07:34.78\00:07:38.52 software in and this is where we teach people what we call 00:07:38.55\00:07:42.32 cognitive behavioral therapy. And this is where we teach them 00:07:42.36\00:07:48.00 the 10 different ways of distorted thinking and then how 00:07:48.03\00:07:53.03 to recognize the distortions in their thought processes and then 00:07:53.07\00:07:57.37 improve those distortions into actually reconstructed rational 00:07:57.41\00:08:03.58 thinking and that is what is going to produce a dramatic 00:08:03.61\00:08:07.42 difference in our emotional intelligence. 00:08:07.45\00:08:09.28 So Dr. Nedley what are these 10 cognitive distortions? 00:08:09.32\00:08:13.25 These 10 cognitive distortions are things like all or nothing 00:08:13.29\00:08:17.23 thinking, overgeneralization, mental filter where we're just 00:08:17.26\00:08:21.80 looking at one side of the issue and totally ignoring the other 00:08:21.83\00:08:26.40 side. Disqualifying the positive This is where it looks like we 00:08:26.43\00:08:30.87 are looking at both sides but then we discount it and 00:08:30.91\00:08:34.41 sometimes that's even worse than a mental filter. Mind reading is 00:08:34.44\00:08:39.15 another very common one. Fortune teller error. Magnification/ 00:08:39.18\00:08:43.69 minimization, this is when we major in minors and we minor in 00:08:43.72\00:08:47.82 majors. Emotional reasoning. This is where we think that our 00:08:47.86\00:08:52.79 feelings don't lie and that means that if I'm angry at you 00:08:52.83\00:08:57.50 that proves that you've been cruel and insensitive to me. 00:08:57.53\00:09:00.20 Doesn't prove that at all but when you're an emotional 00:09:00.24\00:09:02.40 reasoner you think that's all that is needed and so emotional 00:09:02.44\00:09:06.71 reasoning is very common in our society today. Then another 00:09:06.74\00:09:11.51 important one is called personalization. This is when we 00:09:11.55\00:09:17.25 tend to personalize particularly bad things that might happen to 00:09:17.29\00:09:22.46 us and think that we're 100% at fault as a result of that. Then 00:09:22.49\00:09:29.13 we also have mislabeling. We can mislabel others, we can 00:09:29.16\00:09:34.14 mislabel ourselves, and that is yet another common cognitive 00:09:34.17\00:09:39.74 distortion. So we teach them all these examples and these 10 00:09:39.77\00:09:43.95 different ways of distorted thinking so they can get rid of 00:09:43.98\00:09:47.62 what we call their NATs. NATs are Negative Automatic Thoughts. 00:09:47.65\00:09:52.42 Human beings just have a tendency to go into NATs without 00:09:52.45\00:09:56.96 actually even analyzing their thoughts. So we teach them to 00:09:56.99\00:10:00.30 analyze their thoughts, recognize distortions in those 00:10:00.33\00:10:03.63 thoughts, which one of those distortions is it? Correct those 00:10:03.67\00:10:07.47 thoughts and practice it. It's actually fun. It's a six-week 00:10:07.50\00:10:11.71 program we've developed and the emotional intelligence will go 00:10:11.74\00:10:14.74 up dramatically as a result of the behavioral things and the 00:10:14.78\00:10:19.55 now correct thinking that transforms our mind. 00:10:19.58\00:10:23.89 Dr. Nedley you believe that EQ is the key to personal and 00:10:23.92\00:10:29.26 professional success in life. Can you help us understand more 00:10:29.29\00:10:33.50 about EQ and how to develop it in our own lives? 00:10:33.53\00:10:38.27 To improve our EQ we need to know about the five aspects of 00:10:38.30\00:10:42.87 emotional intelligence. The first one is to know our 00:10:42.90\00:10:46.68 emotions. That means to not only be able to identify precisely 00:10:46.71\00:10:52.11 what we are feeling, but why we are feeling that way. And the 00:10:52.15\00:10:56.82 why is deeper than just that somebody cut me off in traffic 00:10:56.85\00:11:01.39 and I feel angry. Yes, that might have been the activating 00:11:01.42\00:11:06.26 event, but it's our thoughts about that that actually cause 00:11:06.29\00:11:09.10 our emotions. So we call it the ABCs of improving emotional 00:11:09.13\00:11:16.20 intelligence. The A is the activating event. The B is our 00:11:16.24\00:11:20.28 belief or our thought about that event and the C is the 00:11:20.31\00:11:24.45 consequence, the emotional consequence followed by 00:11:24.48\00:11:28.58 often behavioral consequence. So it's important, we have to spend 00:11:28.62\00:11:33.99 a lot of time on self-awareness, self-awareness of our emotions 00:11:34.02\00:11:38.46 and our thought processes. So that's the first step. 00:11:38.49\00:11:43.03 The second aspect of emotional intelligence is managing our 00:11:43.06\00:11:47.97 emotions. Now people with low emotional intelligence are 00:11:48.00\00:11:50.94 simply managed by their emotions Moment by moment, day by day, 00:11:50.97\00:11:55.64 they're being totally managed by their emotions. People with 00:11:55.68\00:11:59.91 high emotional intelligence still have powerful emotions, 00:11:59.95\00:12:01.88 but the difference is they're managing those emotions and this 00:12:01.92\00:12:06.49 is very crucial for what many experts call, and actually I 00:12:06.52\00:12:12.29 believe is the number one quoted researcher now in all the world, 00:12:12.33\00:12:15.76 William Baumeister from Stanford not too far away from where 00:12:15.80\00:12:20.04 we're at here today. But Baumeister makes a very crucial 00:12:20.07\00:12:24.11 point that the number one problem in all the world is lack 00:12:24.14\00:12:27.84 of self control, lack of comprehensive self-control and 00:12:27.88\00:12:32.41 you can't have self-control unless you're able to manage 00:12:32.45\00:12:36.52 your emotions. So this is why if we're able to do this, we can 00:12:36.55\00:12:40.52 solve all sorts of problems and you know, I could just mention 00:12:40.56\00:12:44.93 heart disease. We know how to prevent it and even reverse it 00:12:44.96\00:12:48.16 through diet and lifestyle. Why is it still the number one cause 00:12:48.20\00:12:51.43 of death in Western societies, and we know how to do it? It's 00:12:51.47\00:12:53.97 due to a lack of self-control. Eighty percent of cancers could 00:12:54.00\00:12:57.74 be prevented if we would put into action what we know is 00:12:57.77\00:13:01.71 right. But why are there so many cancers? Eighty percent of the 00:13:01.74\00:13:04.78 time it's lack of self-control. You know when you look at sexually transmitted 00:13:04.81\00:13:08.52 diseases and rape and murder and relationship problems and 00:13:08.55\00:13:13.12 technology addiction and all of these other addictions. These 00:13:13.15\00:13:16.79 are lack of self-control. But yet interestingly the 00:13:16.83\00:13:19.36 politicians never talk about this. None of the political 00:13:19.39\00:13:23.26 sides are mentioning it. They are mentioning other problems 00:13:23.30\00:13:25.87 you know, maybe environment, maybe immigration, those are 00:13:25.90\00:13:29.57 problems but they pale in comparison to the problem of 00:13:29.60\00:13:32.17 lack of self-control. And if we can improve our emotional 00:13:32.21\00:13:35.71 intelligence we can solve a lot bigger problems than what 00:13:35.74\00:13:40.55 they're discussing in our capitals and our state houses 00:13:40.58\00:13:44.49 which this topic seems to be off limits for them. But I'm glad 00:13:44.52\00:13:48.82 you're discussing it here today, Gary. The third part is managing 00:13:48.86\00:13:54.16 relationships with others. This is an important part of our 00:13:54.20\00:14:02.34 emotional intelligence and that means we have to have the 00:14:02.37\00:14:05.44 ability to know and understand their emotions as well and the 00:14:05.47\00:14:10.25 thoughts behind those emotions and that will improve our 00:14:10.28\00:14:12.61 relationships and this is why emotional intelligence has so 00:14:12.65\00:14:15.02 much to do with our success and happiness in our life because 00:14:15.05\00:14:18.45 it's our relationships often where our success and happiness 00:14:18.49\00:14:22.12 are based upon. The fourth aspect is recognizing emotions 00:14:22.16\00:14:27.60 in others and the fifth part is motivating ourselves to 00:14:27.63\00:14:31.63 achieve our goals. In the word emotion is another word, motion. 00:14:31.67\00:14:36.74 If our emotions are based on what's true and accurate it will 00:14:36.77\00:14:41.01 powerfully motivate us to achieve our goals and this helps 00:14:41.04\00:14:44.88 us to understand why some people with high IQ are not 00:14:44.91\00:14:50.05 successful. They have the ability to learn, retain and 00:14:50.09\00:14:51.65 apply knowledge but they're not properly motivated. What's their 00:14:51.69\00:14:55.32 problem? It's an emotional intelligence problem. So if we 00:14:55.36\00:14:59.03 can improve their emotional intelligence, their motivation 00:14:59.06\00:15:01.83 will come up dramatically and their ability to achieve success 00:15:01.86\00:15:06.94 and fulfillment and happiness also will go up exponentially. 00:15:06.97\00:15:11.87 Do you have other tips and suggestions about how we can 00:15:11.91\00:15:15.34 increase our EQ? 00:15:15.38\00:15:16.71 We can improve our EQ through a number of different ways and 00:15:16.75\00:15:21.58 I've actually outlined them in a book called The Lost Art of 00:15:21.62\00:15:25.05 Thinking and I've actually put a chapter together on each one 00:15:25.09\00:15:28.99 one of the distorted thoughts as well as the hardware of our 00:15:29.02\00:15:31.76 brain and how we can improve all areas of our brain, our parietal 00:15:31.79\00:15:36.77 lobe, our memories, our temporal lobe as well as our frontal 00:15:36.80\00:15:41.24 lobes and we'll go through each one of the aspects from a 00:15:41.27\00:15:44.37 scientific standpoint on how we can get rid of this problem 00:15:44.41\00:15:49.01 called The Lost Art of Thinking and actually be able to think 00:15:49.04\00:15:52.45 emotionally healthy and productively as well. 00:15:52.48\00:15:57.15 Dr. Nedley could you mention some of them? 00:15:57.19\00:15:59.35 Sure actually getting proper light in the morning is one of 00:15:59.39\00:16:05.59 them. We have a whole chapter on sleep and effective sleep and 00:16:05.63\00:16:11.43 when we are sleeping, it's not just down time for the brain. 00:16:11.47\00:16:17.14 Our brain actually comes out to play. Toxins are washed out and 00:16:17.17\00:16:20.31 this helps our hardware of our brain and it helps us to be 00:16:20.34\00:16:25.31 able to think better as well. And so we can actually change 00:16:25.35\00:16:28.95 people's circadian rhythm. Most people who have emotional 00:16:28.98\00:16:31.45 intelligence problems are late night people. But utilizing even 00:16:31.49\00:16:36.22 a simple light box or the blue sky of light at 6 a.m. every day 00:16:36.26\00:16:40.76 at the same time every day, after seven days their brain 00:16:40.80\00:16:44.77 will actually start to change. It produces more serotonin, 00:16:44.80\00:16:48.00 their sleep goes up, their melatonin production goes up 00:16:48.04\00:16:52.81 and they're actually able to learn and retain better as well 00:16:52.84\00:16:56.14 just through that simple modality. And then there's other 00:16:56.18\00:17:00.98 things like pumpkin seed. Pumpkin seeds are high in 00:17:01.02\00:17:04.35 tyrosine. Tyrosine actually helps us to make more 00:17:04.39\00:17:08.56 norepinephrine and make more dopamine. What does 00:17:08.59\00:17:12.06 norepinephrine do? It helps us to actually focus and 00:17:12.09\00:17:16.80 concentrate which requires us to do this if we're going to 00:17:16.83\00:17:20.27 improve our IQ and EQ and the dopamine improves our motivation 00:17:20.30\00:17:24.11 and we need motivation for those things as well. Sometimes just 00:17:24.14\00:17:28.38 eating... By the way watermelon is also a good source of 00:17:28.41\00:17:32.91 tyrosine. Even seaweed is a pretty good source of tyrosine. 00:17:32.95\00:17:37.72 So we go through these sources in our book and materials that 00:17:37.75\00:17:43.02 can help us to improve the brain chemistry elements that can help 00:17:43.06\00:17:48.16 us in this entire process of neuroplasticity, changing our 00:17:48.20\00:17:53.10 brain in positive ways. One example of our ability to 00:17:53.13\00:17:57.24 improve our IQ and EQ is a high school student from the town 00:17:57.27\00:18:02.94 that I developed this program in, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He 00:18:02.98\00:18:07.52 actually was one of a... I don't know how it is in 00:18:07.55\00:18:10.75 Australia, but in America you can go from the 10th grade to 00:18:10.79\00:18:15.06 11th grade without every passing a course because they don't 00:18:15.09\00:18:18.96 really want to decrease your self-esteem and so even though 00:18:18.99\00:18:23.60 you don't have the mental abilities somehow you find 00:18:23.63\00:18:26.33 yourself in the next grade and you're able to graduate from 00:18:26.37\00:18:30.17 high school, and he was one of these kids that, you know, the 00:18:30.21\00:18:33.98 high school faculty just said he doesn't really have the 00:18:34.01\00:18:37.68 ability. It turns out that he went to a Bible school in the 00:18:37.71\00:18:44.65 local area to learn to become a Bible worker. But you have to 00:18:44.69\00:18:49.89 actually pass tests and things and the person who was in 00:18:49.92\00:18:54.70 charge of that said, nice guy, but he just doesn't have it 00:18:54.73\00:18:58.93 intellectually, just doesn't have it. I don't think he's 00:18:58.97\00:19:02.40 going to make it. These are college credit type of courses. 00:19:02.44\00:19:07.31 And at the end he says you know he worked hard and he just 00:19:07.34\00:19:09.91 barely made it. He wasn't at the bottom of the class but he 00:19:09.94\00:19:13.28 actually made it and he was able to graduate and get his 00:19:13.31\00:19:16.28 certificate. He actually worked for a Bible worker for about a 00:19:16.32\00:19:19.32 year and then he came back to Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was seeing 00:19:19.35\00:19:23.83 his parents there and I happened to be eating with him and he 00:19:23.86\00:19:26.93 said you know I really enjoy this work, but I think I could 00:19:26.96\00:19:30.57 do a lot better as a doctor. Do you think I could be a doctor? 00:19:30.60\00:19:35.47 And I smiled and I says you know being a doctor is not for 00:19:35.50\00:19:38.47 everybody. He says but I am motivated. If you can tell me 00:19:38.51\00:19:43.41 what I can do to get this brain working better, I'm all ears. 00:19:43.45\00:19:47.88 Can you tell me what we can do. And I said if you're motivated 00:19:47.92\00:19:51.09 absolutely I can. And so we scheduled another time and I 00:19:51.12\00:19:55.49 went over all the behavioral things and the thinking things 00:19:55.52\00:19:58.73 that can help improve his intelligence and his mind 00:19:58.76\00:20:02.66 started to work much better. He enrolled at the University of 00:20:02.70\00:20:07.27 Oklahoma and he was taking the hard sciences. At first he was 00:20:07.30\00:20:10.07 getting kind of C's on the tests and then he was working hard 00:20:10.11\00:20:13.27 and improving his abilities, and then B's and finally A's and he 00:20:13.31\00:20:18.31 ended up passing his MCAT. He's in medical school today which 00:20:18.35\00:20:23.28 requires a high level of IQ because his brain was 00:20:23.32\00:20:27.56 transformed by utilizing these principles. And his emotional 00:20:27.59\00:20:31.99 intelligence has also improved. He was a nice guy before but he 00:20:32.03\00:20:35.26 is going to be a very successful very engaging physician that is 00:20:35.30\00:20:40.64 going to help scores of people as a result of optimizing his 00:20:40.67\00:20:44.87 own brain. 00:20:44.91\00:20:46.24 Where can people learn more about this important topic? 00:20:46.27\00:20:48.78 We can improve our IQ and EQ through going through a site 00:20:48.81\00:20:52.95 called Optimize Your Brain. We have videos, we have workbooks 00:20:52.98\00:20:56.69 that can help you through this process, the same process that 00:20:56.72\00:20:59.85 I helped the medical student through and scores of others and 00:20:59.89\00:21:04.83 just getting that material and going through it would be great. 00:21:04.86\00:21:10.47 I think you may have a free offer maybe on Dr. Nedley's top 00:21:10.50\00:21:14.34 10 brain optimizers. That might be a simple way to start until 00:21:14.37\00:21:18.41 you utilize a comprehensive program and the book I mentioned 00:21:18.44\00:21:22.84 earlier, The Lost Art of Thinking, can go through that. 00:21:22.88\00:21:25.71 But we've also written a book called Optimize Your Brain 00:21:25.75\00:21:28.18 that's part of the package to put IQ and EQ together. So with 00:21:28.22\00:21:32.92 those resources you'll have everything you need to 00:21:32.95\00:21:35.79 dramatically improve both your IQ and your EQ. 00:21:35.82\00:21:38.29 Dr. Nedley do have a message that you'd like to share with 00:21:38.33\00:21:42.40 our viewers today? 00:21:42.43\00:21:45.13 You know one of the most famous books written in the Bible is 00:21:45.17\00:21:49.10 probably the most well-read book by the Apostle Paul, the book 00:21:49.14\00:21:54.28 of Romans, says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. 00:21:54.31\00:21:59.35 You know, it's interesting that Paul recognized that our minds 00:21:59.38\00:22:04.09 can be totally transformed and they can actually change and 00:22:04.12\00:22:09.92 science has actually proven that through neuroplasticity. We are 00:22:09.96\00:22:14.46 not stuck with the brains that we're born with and we can 00:22:14.50\00:22:19.00 through principles that are healthy for our brain as well as 00:22:19.03\00:22:25.07 thinking principles and spiritual principles in 00:22:25.11\00:22:28.08 enhancing our frontal lobe, our brains can indeed be transformed 00:22:28.11\00:22:33.62 by the renewing of our mind and that means no longer the 00:22:33.65\00:22:39.02 negative automatic thoughts but now the practice in correcting 00:22:39.05\00:22:43.43 our distorted thoughts. And when that renewing takes place it is 00:22:43.46\00:22:49.50 worth everything. You can't put a price tag on a transformed 00:22:49.53\00:22:54.57 brain. And the Bible recognized that we can do that centuries 00:22:54.60\00:22:59.44 ago. 00:22:59.47\00:23:00.81 Dr. Nedley thank you for being with us today. It's been great being with you here, Gary. 00:23:09.35\00:23:14.72 In the Bible, Jesus himself provides excellent insight in 00:23:14.76\00:23:21.00 how to be successful in life.
