Shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday the 17th of December, 1968, 00:00:33.33\00:00:38.53 two gunmen burst through the doorway into room 137 00:00:38.57\00:00:43.17 at the Rodeway Inn in Atlanta, Georgia. 00:00:43.20\00:00:46.68 What followed was one of the most bizarre and sensational 00:00:46.71\00:00:50.98 crimes in American history. 00:00:51.01\00:00:53.35 Inside the hotel room, Barbara Jane Mackle the 20-year-old 00:00:53.42\00:00:58.59 heiress and daughter of a wealthy Florida businessman 00:00:58.62\00:01:01.59 was recovering from illness. Her mother was there 00:01:01.62\00:01:04.96 caring for her and overseeing her recovery. 00:01:04.99\00:01:08.30 The kidnappers bound the mother and abducted the daughter, 00:01:08.33\00:01:12.63 then they drove their victim to an isolated pine forest 00:01:17.81\00:01:22.64 on the outskirts of town. They forced Barbara into a 00:01:22.68\00:01:26.05 coffin-like box and buried her deep underground. 00:01:26.08\00:01:29.28 Her only contact with the out- side world was a narrow air-tube 00:01:29.32\00:01:34.59 that reached to the surface. Nobody knew where she was 00:01:34.62\00:01:38.56 except for the kidnappers and they threatened that they'd 00:01:38.59\00:01:42.00 never reveal her whereabouts unless her father met their 00:01:42.03\00:01:45.83 demands and paid them a ransom of half a million dollars. 00:01:45.87\00:01:49.24 Her fate was sealed, if the money wasn't provided 00:01:49.27\00:01:54.48 that box would become Barbara Mackel's tomb and she would 00:01:54.51\00:01:58.88 die all alone. Her body would never be found. 00:01:58.91\00:02:02.48 There was nothing she could do. Barbara screams "Can anyone 00:02:03.12\00:02:05.12 hear me? "Barbara screams Can anyone hear me" again? 00:02:05.15\00:02:06.52 Her only hope of rescue depended on the ransom being paid. 00:02:06.59\00:02:13.06 Make sure you hear the inspiring story of a father's love 00:02:13.09\00:02:17.27 and his desperate attempt to rescue his kidnapped daughter. 00:02:17.30\00:02:21.20 and you'll be surprised to discover that there's more 00:02:21.24\00:02:24.84 to this Ransome story than expected and it may even have 00:02:24.87\00:02:28.18 implications for you and me. 00:02:28.21\00:02:30.75 Emory University is located on a beautiful campus in the 00:02:47.66\00:02:53.13 vibrant city of Atlanta, the capital of the state of Georgia 00:02:53.17\00:02:56.81 in the United States. 00:02:56.84\00:02:58.17 It was founded in 1836 and is one of the oldest private 00:02:58.21\00:03:03.35 universities in the United States. 00:03:03.38\00:03:05.55 Today it ranks among the worlds leading research universities 00:03:05.58\00:03:10.79 and is one of the top institutions in America. 00:03:10.82\00:03:14.16 Emory's 133,000 alumni include a U.S. Vice President, 00:03:14.19\00:03:20.90 a Supreme Court Justice, U.S. senators and representatives, 00:03:20.93\00:03:25.37 governors, university presidents, philanthropists, 00:03:25.40\00:03:29.77 entaupreters, entertainers, and even an astronaut. 00:03:29.80\00:03:33.78 The university attracts students from over 100 foreign countries 00:03:33.81\00:03:38.98 and from all 50 states of America. 00:03:39.01\00:03:41.62 In 1968 one of those students was 20-year-old Barbara Jane 00:03:41.65\00:03:47.66 Mackle, a wealthy young heiress from Florida. 00:03:47.69\00:03:50.96 Her father Robert Mackle was a multi-millionaire who owned the 00:03:50.99\00:03:55.90 65 million dollar Deltona Corporation, one of the biggest 00:03:55.93\00:04:00.14 real estate home-building companies in America. 00:04:00.17\00:04:03.41 In December an influenza epidemic spread through the 00:04:03.44\00:04:09.88 Emory Campus and hit the student body hard. Soon the university 00:04:09.91\00:04:15.08 infirmary was full of sick students, when Barbara came down 00:04:15.12\00:04:19.55 with the flu, there wasn't any room left in the infirmary, so 00:04:19.59\00:04:23.76 her mother Jane drove all the way from Coral Gables, a posh 00:04:23.83\00:04:28.33 suburb in Miami to take care of Barbara. The two of them moved 00:04:28.36\00:04:33.37 into room 137 at the nearby Rodeway Inn so that Barbara 00:04:33.44\00:04:37.71 could recover and prepare for her final exams. 00:04:37.74\00:04:40.68 Christmas was just eight days away and they were looking 00:04:40.71\00:04:44.58 forward to driving back home to Florida for a family holiday. 00:04:44.61\00:04:48.82 Barbara and her mother went to bed early that night 00:04:48.85\00:04:51.85 to ensure that Barbara got plenty of rest. 00:04:51.89\00:04:54.86 They wanted to get rid of her fever and give her the very best 00:04:54.89\00:04:58.66 chance of getting well again. Shortly after 4 o'clock the next 00:04:58.69\00:05:03.10 morning, Tuesday the 17th of December, they're awakened 00:05:03.13\00:05:07.24 by a loud knock on the door. A man who identified himself as a 00:05:07.27\00:05:11.44 policeman said that there'd been a terrible accident 00:05:11.47\00:05:14.98 and that Barbara's fiancé "Stewart Hunt Woodward" 00:05:15.01\00:05:18.81 had been seriously injured. He claimed that he needed to 00:05:18.85\00:05:22.55 talk to Barbara immediately. Mrs. Mackle went to open the 00:05:22.58\00:05:26.76 door, Barbara said no, don't but it was too late, 00:05:26.79\00:05:31.29 outside the door was a stranger, Gary Krist holding a shotgun 00:05:31.33\00:05:35.73 and his accomplice dressed as a man but actually Krist's 00:05:35.76\00:05:39.30 girlfriend Ruth Eisemann Scheir, she was armed with a pistol. 00:05:39.33\00:05:43.41 They burst into the room and held their weapons to the heads 00:05:43.44\00:05:47.58 of Barbara and her mother. Do as we say and no one 00:05:47.61\00:05:51.91 will get hurt. The two women were defenseless and terrified, 00:05:51.95\00:05:57.29 the gunman quickly chloroformed bound and gagged Janet Mackle 00:05:57.32\00:06:02.56 and left her lying on the motel room floor. 00:06:02.59\00:06:05.29 They then forced Barbara at gunpoint from the hotel room 00:06:05.33\00:06:09.50 into the back of their waiting car, informing her that she was 00:06:09.53\00:06:14.24 being kidnapped. 00:06:14.27\00:06:15.60 They drove about 30 km to a remote pine forest in a wild 00:06:15.64\00:06:24.25 and uninhabited place near Lake Berkley in the Duluth area 00:06:24.28\00:06:28.45 on the outskirts of town. Barbara was forced from the car 00:06:28.48\00:06:32.62 and dragged to a pre-dug hole in the ground. 00:06:32.65\00:06:35.59 The horror of her situation became clear when the light 00:06:35.62\00:06:40.10 of the torch revealed a coffin- like box at the bottom of the 00:06:40.13\00:06:43.47 hole, they were going to bury her alive. 00:06:43.50\00:06:47.14 Barbara pled for her life, she told her kidnappers that she 00:06:47.17\00:06:53.38 would do anything if they would just spare her life and 00:06:53.41\00:06:57.08 leave her out of the box. She repeated over and over 00:06:57.15\00:07:00.52 I'll be good, I'll be good but her pleas were in vain. 00:07:00.55\00:07:06.42 Barbara was told that she would only live if she cooperated. 00:07:06.45\00:07:11.16 She was pushed into the hole and forced to lie in the box. 00:07:11.19\00:07:15.46 Kris took an opal ring from Barbara's finger and ordered her 00:07:15.50\00:07:20.04 to hold a crude sign that read "Kidnapped" while he 00:07:20.07\00:07:24.11 photographed her with a Polaroid camera, but he didn't like the 00:07:24.14\00:07:27.81 picture because she was grim- faced, he ordered her to smile 00:07:27.84\00:07:32.18 so that her parents would know that she was alive, 00:07:32.21\00:07:35.05 then he photographed her again. 00:07:35.08\00:07:37.62 Barbara was informed that there were supplies in the box 00:07:37.65\00:07:42.92 that would keep her alive for several days as well as a 00:07:42.96\00:07:46.19 narrow plastic air tube that reached to the surface to 00:07:46.23\00:07:49.90 provide outside air. Then came the dreaded moment, 00:07:49.93\00:07:54.77 the top of the box was closed and screwed down, 00:07:54.80\00:07:58.87 next, she could hear the sounds of frozen dirt being shoveled 00:07:58.91\00:08:03.75 on top of her, the first shovel full of soil were very loud 00:08:03.78\00:08:08.52 then they became muffled and then silence. 00:08:08.55\00:08:13.86 Within a few minutes she lay buried alive under a half 00:08:13.89\00:08:18.13 a meter of earth, she was hysterical, she yelled out, 00:08:18.16\00:08:22.76 she pushed with all her might against the roof of the box 00:08:22.80\00:08:26.30 she banged on the sides of the box hoping someone would 00:08:26.33\00:08:29.90 hear her, but there was just silence, she was all alone. 00:08:29.94\00:08:35.41 The kidnappers contacted Robert Mackel with a ransom message 00:08:35.44\00:08:39.65 they demanded $500,000 in ransom and gave detailed instructions 00:08:39.68\00:08:45.12 on how the money was to be prepared and delivered. 00:08:45.15\00:08:49.12 It was to consist of used $20 bills, not in serial order 00:08:49.16\00:08:53.50 and bound in $1,000 packets. 00:08:53.53\00:08:56.03 The full ransom payment was to be put in a single suitcase, 00:08:56.06\00:09:00.87 they threatened that they'd never reveal Barbara's 00:09:00.94\00:09:04.11 whereabouts unless all their demands were met. 00:09:04.14\00:09:07.81 If Robert Mackle agreed to the kidnapper's terms, 00:09:07.84\00:09:11.41 he was instructed to place a classified ad in the 00:09:11.45\00:09:14.75 Miami Herald Newspaper under the personal section. 00:09:14.78\00:09:18.22 He knew there was only way he would ever see his daughter 00:09:18.25\00:09:22.19 alive again, she was under a death sentence unless he paid 00:09:22.22\00:09:26.80 the ransom. The moment of decision had arrived, 00:09:26.83\00:09:30.70 Robert Mackle had to make the critical decision, 00:09:30.77\00:09:35.00 was he willing to pay the ransom? 00:09:35.04\00:09:37.64 Well, there was never any doubt in Robert Mackel's mind, 00:09:37.67\00:09:41.58 his daughter's life was all that mattered, he immediately 00:09:41.61\00:09:45.88 withdrew the money an followed the kidnappers instructions. 00:09:45.91\00:09:50.59 He placed the add in the newspaper... 00:09:50.62\00:10:02.16 That night the ransom payment was prepared, the money was 00:10:02.20\00:10:07.44 carefully counted and placed in a suitcase. 00:10:07.47\00:10:10.61 On Wednesday, the postman delivered a letter containing 00:10:10.64\00:10:14.84 Barbara's opal ring and the Polaroid photo of her holding 00:10:14.88\00:10:19.08 the kidnapped sign and then at 4 a.m. on Thursday, 00:10:19.11\00:10:23.59 exactly two days after the kidnapping Robert Mackel 00:10:23.62\00:10:28.09 another phone call giving instructions for the ransom 00:10:28.12\00:10:32.03 drop-off. Robert Mackel left immediately and placed 00:10:32.06\00:10:36.97 the suitcase full of money on a sandy strip near a bridge 00:10:37.00\00:10:40.54 just south of Miami along the bay as instructed. 00:10:40.57\00:10:44.71 But the entire ransom process was disrupted when two police 00:10:44.74\00:10:50.35 officers who were totally unaware if the kidnapping 00:10:50.38\00:10:53.42 drove by and spotted two suspicious individuals 00:10:53.45\00:10:57.92 carrying the large heavy suitcase. 00:10:57.95\00:11:00.96 When they went to investigate, the kidnappers dropped the 00:11:00.99\00:11:04.89 the suitcase and fled safely only foot to the nearby woods, 00:11:04.93\00:11:08.60 however, the FBI found their nearby abandoned car. 00:11:08.63\00:11:12.50 Inside the vehicle, not only did the authorities find the 00:11:12.53\00:11:17.11 documents giving the kidnappers identities and former addresses 00:11:17.14\00:11:20.88 but they also found the other photograph of Barbara Mackel 00:11:20.91\00:11:24.78 in the box holding the kidnapped sign. Robert Mackel was 00:11:24.81\00:11:29.85 devastated when told of the accidentally bungled ransom 00:11:29.88\00:11:33.76 drop-off, he feared that the kidnappers would now abandon 00:11:33.79\00:11:37.69 the ransom deal and leave Barbara to die. 00:11:37.73\00:11:40.80 Nothing else mattered, he just wanted to get his daughter back 00:11:40.83\00:11:45.70 and he was willing to sacrifice everything to make that happen. 00:11:45.73\00:11:50.24 Robert Mackel placed a second add in the newspaper 00:11:50.31\00:11:54.34 for the kidnappers that led to another phone call and a new 00:11:54.38\00:11:58.61 ransom drop-off location. 00:11:58.65\00:12:00.32 The second ransom drop-off was successful, 00:12:00.35\00:12:03.69 now the Mackel family waited tensely for a response from the 00:12:03.72\00:12:08.72 kidnappers with information about their daughter 00:12:08.76\00:12:11.69 but no call came, they feared the worse. 00:12:11.73\00:12:20.04 Nearly 15 hours after the ransom pick-up, on the 20th of 00:12:20.07\00:12:26.47 December, Kris called the FBI office in Atlanta and left vague 00:12:26.51\00:12:30.88 directions to Barbara's burial site near Duluth. 00:12:30.95\00:12:34.32 More than 100 agents rushed to the site, they spread out 00:12:34.35\00:12:39.15 and began searching in a desperate effort to find her 00:12:39.19\00:12:40.56 before she suffocated, but they couldn't find any sign 00:12:40.59\00:12:47.10 of the living grave. The agents were about to give up the search 00:12:47.13\00:12:53.23 when one man noticed a patch of freshly turned earth 00:12:53.27\00:12:57.51 he fell to the ground for a closer inspection 00:12:57.54\00:13:00.38 and spotted the ventilation tubes. 00:13:00.41\00:13:02.68 Frantically the men began digging the ground with their 00:13:02.71\00:13:06.82 bare hands and sticks wondering whether Barbara would be dead 00:13:06.85\00:13:11.12 or alive. Twelve minutes later their hands bleeding, 00:13:11.15\00:13:15.92 the agents reached the coffin lid, they pried it off with a 00:13:15.96\00:13:19.73 tire lever and there was Barbara alive, the agents wept as they 00:13:19.76\00:13:26.17 lifted her out of the box. 00:13:26.20\00:13:27.67 After having spent nearly four days in dark cold confinement, 00:13:27.70\00:13:32.44 she was in remarkably good spirits, she was finally freed 00:13:32.47\00:13:37.38 thanks to her father's love and his willingness 00:13:37.45\00:13:40.72 to pay her ransom. 00:13:40.75\00:13:42.75 Barbara was flown in her father's jet back to Miami 00:13:42.78\00:13:48.06 to be reunited with her family and what a reunion it was, 00:13:48.09\00:13:52.26 Robert Mackel had shown just how much Barbara meant to him 00:13:52.29\00:13:56.53 and the family. He was willing to sacrifice everything 00:13:56.56\00:14:00.44 in order to save her and bring her home. 00:14:00.47\00:14:01.80 Do we need to wonder if Barbara ever doubted her father's love 00:14:01.84\00:14:08.38 after that? She'd experienced her father's love firsthand 00:14:08.41\00:14:12.81 in a very special way. She knew that he and the family 00:14:12.85\00:14:17.05 valued her above everything. Now consider this. 00:14:17.09\00:14:20.79 Did the half a million dollar ransom cause her father to 00:14:20.82\00:14:25.06 love her? or did it reveal how much he already loved her? 00:14:25.09\00:14:29.46 Of course, the money merely reflected the intense love 00:14:29.50\00:14:33.74 within the heart of Robert Mackel for his daughter Barbara. 00:14:33.77\00:14:37.14 That special love, that intense love is something humans desire. 00:14:45.65\00:14:50.62 We all need it, we were made to love and be loved. 00:14:50.65\00:14:54.86 If you were kidnapped, would anybody pay up to a $20,000,000 00:14:54.89\00:14:59.19 for you? Does anybody love you that much? 00:14:59.23\00:15:02.90 Yes, someone does, you were loved that much and even more. 00:15:02.93\00:15:08.50 Let me explain, one of the great themes of the Bible is the 00:15:08.54\00:15:14.24 ransom theme, in fact you cannot fully understand the 00:15:14.28\00:15:18.78 golden thread that runs all the way through the Bible 00:15:18.81\00:15:21.28 without understanding the ransom fee. 00:15:21.32\00:15:23.99 Notice what the Bible says in 1Peter 1:18,19. 00:15:24.02\00:15:29.82 There you have it, you were ransomed not with $20,000,000, 00:15:49.38\00:15:54.48 but with the precious blood of Christ. 00:15:54.52\00:15:57.32 Now please notice what this means, ultimately somethings 00:15:57.35\00:16:02.09 value is measured how much another person will pay for it 00:16:02.12\00:16:06.39 or give up for it. And if that's the measurement, your value 00:16:06.43\00:16:11.23 is out of this world. God gave His only Son for you. 00:16:11.27\00:16:17.07 He didn't give just the best that He had, God gave everything 00:16:17.11\00:16:21.78 He had, and He did it just for you. 00:16:21.81\00:16:25.11 If you were the only person on this planet who was lost 00:16:25.15\00:16:28.75 and needed to be ransomed, Jesus would have still come 00:16:28.78\00:16:33.05 just for you. Can you imagine anyone paying a higher price 00:16:33.09\00:16:38.26 for anything. Once you internalize the fact that 00:16:38.29\00:16:42.66 God sent His Son to pay your ransom, you should never again 00:16:42.70\00:16:46.97 struggle with self-esteem or feel worthless. 00:16:47.00\00:16:50.41 God has eternally clarified your value. 00:16:50.44\00:16:54.24 You are worth everything, you are worth dying for, 00:16:54.28\00:16:59.11 you are worth going through the pain of the cross, 00:16:59.15\00:17:02.25 you matter. Jesus said He would rather die than live without you 00:17:02.28\00:17:08.39 and so He paid your ransom and mine. 00:17:08.42\00:17:11.29 But why was it necessary? Why do we need to be ransomed 00:17:11.33\00:17:16.90 in the first place? Well, to find the answer, 00:17:16.93\00:17:21.50 we've got to go all the way back to the very beginning 00:17:21.54\00:17:25.07 of human existence. In the very first book of the Bible 00:17:25.11\00:17:28.84 the story begins with a perfect world, there was no sin or 00:17:28.88\00:17:33.58 disease. Because God is love, He wanted to populate 00:17:33.62\00:17:38.15 this perfect world with people who had the ability to 00:17:38.19\00:17:41.52 respond to His love. He didn't want puppets of robots, 00:17:41.56\00:17:45.76 who are manipulated or programmed to behave 00:17:45.79\00:17:48.96 in a certain way, He wanted people who had the power of 00:17:49.00\00:17:53.74 choice. And so God created people with the capacity 00:17:53.77\00:17:58.47 the freedom to respond spontaneously to His love. 00:17:58.51\00:18:02.71 But when you give the power to people to choose, 00:18:02.74\00:18:05.91 you take a great risk because they may make wrong choices. 00:18:05.95\00:18:10.49 They may choose to love or not to love, they may choose to be 00:18:10.52\00:18:15.32 loyal or not to be loyal. But because God is love, 00:18:15.36\00:18:19.73 He was willing to take that risk and give people 00:18:19.76\00:18:23.47 the power of choice. 00:18:23.50\00:18:25.20 Sadly, as time went by, our first parents Adam and Eve 00:18:25.23\00:18:31.07 listened to the voice of God's arch enemy Lucifer 00:18:31.11\00:18:34.38 and chose to follow him, they chose to rebel, to reject God 00:18:34.41\00:18:39.71 and give their loyalty to Satan. 00:18:39.75\00:18:42.12 Just as Barbara Mackel's mother made the voluntary choice 00:18:42.15\00:18:46.19 to let the kidnappers in, so our first parents made a 00:18:46.22\00:18:49.86 voluntary choice to listen to the voice of the kidnappers, 00:18:49.89\00:18:53.03 Satan and let him into their lives. 00:18:53.06\00:18:55.53 And so, in a sense, our first parents were kidnapped by 00:18:55.56\00:19:00.14 Satan and held captive in sin. When Adam and Eve turned their 00:19:00.17\00:19:04.71 back on God and invited Satan into their world, 00:19:04.74\00:19:07.88 they were separated from God and life. Sin, rebellion 00:19:07.91\00:19:13.78 separates us from God. 00:19:13.82\00:19:15.88 Notice what the Bible says in Isaiah 59:1,2. 00:19:15.92\00:19:21.26 People were made for fellowship with God, to be in harmony 00:19:31.07\00:19:35.07 with their Creator, but when they sinned, they turned away 00:19:35.10\00:19:39.17 from God. They rejected Him and turned against Him. 00:19:39.21\00:19:43.14 But there is more, there are consequences associated with sin 00:19:43.18\00:19:48.52 with rebelling against God. Notice what the Bible says 00:19:48.55\00:19:52.32 in Romans 6:23. 00:19:52.35\00:19:59.33 The two people that God had created perfect and upright 00:19:59.36\00:20:03.87 were now separated from God, that resulted in destruction 00:20:03.90\00:20:08.60 and death. They had no ability to fix this situation 00:20:08.64\00:20:13.07 so the human race was doomed. The tragic end of their choice 00:20:13.11\00:20:18.78 to rebel was destruction and death. 00:20:18.81\00:20:22.32 Like Barbara Mackel in that dirt-covered box, 00:20:22.35\00:20:25.89 unable to deliver herself, the human race was doomed 00:20:25.92\00:20:29.86 unless help came from above. In a sense, we're all in a box 00:20:29.89\00:20:35.36 without hope, unless a ransom is paid. 00:20:35.40\00:20:38.57 And this is where God intervened, He couldn't stand 00:20:38.60\00:20:42.84 being separated from us, the people He loves. 00:20:42.87\00:20:46.01 He was both willing and able to provide that help from above. 00:20:46.04\00:20:51.81 He had a plan, He would come and pay the ransom Himself 00:20:51.85\00:20:56.69 to "SET US FREE". He would pay the penalty for our sins 00:20:56.72\00:21:00.59 and mistakes. The ransom wasn't in dollars or silver 00:21:00.62\00:21:04.59 or gold, it was paid in blood, Jesus blood, 00:21:04.63\00:21:08.60 He died in our place. 00:21:08.63\00:21:11.53 He died so we could live, He paid our ransom in full. 00:21:11.57\00:21:17.37 Listen to what the Bible says in Matthew 20:28. 00:21:17.41\00:21:22.38 Our ransom has been paid, we don't have to be held captive 00:21:30.59\00:21:36.69 any longer, captive to sin, captive to guilt, 00:21:36.73\00:21:40.50 captive to fear, captive to despair, we've been set free. 00:21:40.53\00:21:45.83 Please notice the words of the most popular text in 00:21:45.87\00:21:49.54 all the Bible. 00:21:49.57\00:21:50.91 Yes, Jesus has paid the ransom to set us free, to give us life, 00:22:02.55\00:22:10.83 and here's the good news, not matter how deep or dark 00:22:10.86\00:22:15.20 your situation may be, Jesus will find you and set you free. 00:22:15.23\00:22:20.34 No sin is too bad, no hole is too deep, 00:22:20.37\00:22:25.14 no case is to hopeless, He's here to give us hope 00:22:25.17\00:22:30.51 to forgive our sins, to give us peace and happiness, 00:22:30.55\00:22:34.45 all you have to do is ask, and he will set you free. 00:22:34.48\00:22:39.09 Why not ask Him to do that right now as we pray? 00:22:39.12\00:22:44.03 Our Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for Jesus our Saviour 00:22:44.06\00:22:49.63 and our deliverer. We are so grateful that 00:22:49.66\00:22:52.53 He has paid our ransom in full, and paid the penalty 00:22:52.57\00:22:56.07 for our sins and mistakes. We are so glad that we are 00:22:56.10\00:22:59.51 no longer separated from You. We are so grateful that you are 00:22:59.54\00:23:03.48 a loving God. Thank you from freeing us from sin, guilt, 00:23:03.51\00:23:07.85 and despair. Thank you for the peace and happiness you give us, 00:23:07.88\00:23:12.02 we commit our lives to you and pray for your blessing 00:23:12.05\00:23:16.52 and guidance. And we ask this in Jesus name. Amen! 00:23:16.56\00:23:21.56 The story of Barbara Mackel's abduction and the father's 00:23:33.78\00:23:37.15 desperate attempt to rescue her, has fascinated and inspired 00:23:37.18\00:23:41.52 people all over the world. Being buried alive 00:23:41.55\00:23:45.19 deep underground was a terrifying experience. 00:23:45.22\00:23:48.56 Her situation was hopeless, her father knew there was only 00:23:48.59\00:23:53.36 one way he would ever see his daughter alive again, 00:23:53.40\00:23:56.40 she was under a death sentence unless he paid the ransom. 00:23:56.43\00:24:01.07 Robert Mackel's love for his daughter was so great 00:24:01.10\00:24:04.71 that he was willing to sacrifice everything in order to save her 00:24:04.74\00:24:09.14 and bring her home. He paid the ransom in full to set her free. 00:24:09.18\00:24:13.88 Sometimes we can feel buried alive under the burdens and 00:24:13.92\00:24:18.62 challenges of life, Jesus has paid the ransom to set us free 00:24:18.65\00:24:24.03 and to give us life. And so, if you are struggling with the 00:24:24.06\00:24:28.13 challenges of life and are looking for inner peace 00:24:28.16\00:24:31.43 and true happiness, if you would like to get closer 00:24:31.47\00:24:34.47 to God then I'd like to recommend a free gift we have 00:24:34.50\00:24:37.81 for all our viewers today.
