¤ ¤ 00:00:02.20\00:00:26.65 Mahatma Gandhi was shot and killed on this very spot by an 00:00:26.69\00:00:30.36 assassin's bullet on the 30th of January 1948. He was walking 00:00:30.39\00:00:35.76 from Birla House to the lawn where his evening outdoor 00:00:35.80\00:00:39.20 prayer meeting was held. When he got here he was approached by a 00:00:39.23\00:00:43.71 young man dressed in a khaki bush jacket and blue trousers. 00:00:43.74\00:00:47.61 Then man greeted Gandhi with the customary Hindi salutation of 00:00:47.64\00:00:52.35 Namaste, that is with folded hands. He smiled at him and said 00:00:52.38\00:00:57.49 a few words. The man then stepped forward and whipped out 00:00:57.52\00:01:01.99 a revolver from his inside pocket and fired three shots at 00:01:02.02\00:01:05.43 point-blank range. The bullets struck Gandhi in the chest. He 00:01:05.46\00:01:10.87 raised his hands in the same greeting as he fell to the 00:01:10.90\00:01:14.30 ground. He was carried back to Birla House where he died half 00:01:14.34\00:01:18.11 half an hour later. India was in a state of shock. There were 00:01:18.14\00:01:23.68 outpourings of grief, a state of public mourning followed. 00:01:23.71\00:01:27.18 Mahatma Gandhi the father of the nation was dead, assassinated by 00:01:27.22\00:01:33.52 a religious fanatic. India mourned the loss of it's 00:01:33.56\00:01:38.26 greatest healer. Gandhi was gone but his legacy lived on. He 00:01:38.29\00:01:44.30 brought down an empire by preaching brotherhood and 00:01:44.33\00:01:47.64 nonviolence. He was the catalyst if not the initiator of three of 00:01:47.67\00:01:52.81 the major revolutions of the 20th century: The movement 00:01:52.84\00:01:56.48 against colonialism, racism and violence. And he left a special 00:01:56.51\00:02:03.02 message for you and me. Stay tuned. You just must hear it. 00:02:03.05\00:02:07.86 It could change your life forever. 00:02:07.89\00:02:13.13 ¤ ¤ 00:02:13.16\00:02:31.51 Some of the most passionate debate and even trivial 00:02:31.55\00:02:34.12 conversations people have today center around the topic of 00:02:34.15\00:02:39.09 global influence and popularity. Who are the most popular and 00:02:39.12\00:02:43.39 influential people of all time? Who's had the most impact on 00:02:43.43\00:02:47.60 on the history of the world? There are even lists of the most 00:02:47.63\00:02:51.50 influential people in all of human history. These lists rank 00:02:51.53\00:02:56.04 people according to the significant impact they've made 00:02:56.07\00:02:59.41 on how we live our lives today and how big an influence they've 00:02:59.44\00:03:03.68 had on how modern society works. 00:03:03.71\00:03:05.05 No matter which list you look at the old or the new, Mahatma 00:03:07.65\00:03:11.72 Gandhi always ranks highly amongst the most important and 00:03:11.75\00:03:16.49 influential people in all of history. Gandhi was the leader 00:03:16.52\00:03:21.10 of the nationalist movement against British colonial rule of 00:03:21.13\00:03:25.00 India. He used nonviolent principles and peaceful 00:03:25.03\00:03:29.10 disobedience to gain Indian independence. Gandhi showed the 00:03:29.14\00:03:34.68 world that you didn't have to have a title or authority or 00:03:34.71\00:03:38.81 military power to change the world and make a difference. He 00:03:38.85\00:03:43.92 demonstrated that oppressed peoples should not put up with 00:03:43.95\00:03:47.96 their condition. They should stand up for their rights but 00:03:47.99\00:03:52.23 they should do it in a peaceful manner. Hate does not overcome 00:03:52.26\00:03:56.23 hate. War does not overcome war. He was an example that peace 00:03:56.26\00:04:02.10 overcomes hate. He was assassinated shortly after 00:04:02.14\00:04:06.41 achieving his life goal of Indian independence. In India 00:04:06.44\00:04:11.38 he's known as the Father of the Nation and today the name 00:04:11.41\00:04:16.02 Mahatma Gandhi is one of the best known names in the world. 00:04:16.05\00:04:20.76 Mahatma Gandhi, more commonly known today as Mahatma meaning 00:04:20.79\00:04:29.00 great soul was born on the 2nd of October 1869 in Porbandar, a 00:04:29.03\00:04:35.67 picturesque seaport on the Arabian Sea in the present day 00:04:35.70\00:04:40.01 Indian state of Gujarat in northwest India. It was here in 00:04:40.04\00:04:47.92 the family's three-story 300-year-old ancestral home that 00:04:47.95\00:04:52.99 Gandhi entered the world and spent his early years. 00:04:53.02\00:04:56.16 His father, Karamchand, was a local politician serving as 00:04:56.19\00:05:01.86 prime minister to a number of local Indian princes. His mother 00:05:01.90\00:05:06.84 Putlibai was illiterate but her common sense and religious 00:05:06.87\00:05:11.47 devotion had a lasting impact on young Gandhi and played a major 00:05:11.51\00:05:16.14 role in molding his character. Gandhi's mother was strongly 00:05:16.18\00:05:21.12 influenced by Jainism, an ancient Indian religion that's 00:05:21.15\00:05:25.79 main beliefs include peace and nonviolence, fasting, meditation 00:05:25.82\00:05:30.89 and vegetarianism along with the tolerance of other religions and 00:05:30.93\00:05:35.46 beliefs. These concepts would play a major role in Gandhi's 00:05:35.50\00:05:40.47 belief system and activities in later years. The family was 00:05:40.50\00:05:46.17 relatively well off by the standards of this rural region. 00:05:46.21\00:05:49.14 They owned this house and several others in the region 00:05:49.18\00:05:52.58 and were able to afford a nurse and a good education for the 00:05:52.61\00:05:56.89 young Gandhi. Gandhi was born and educated in the midst of the 00:05:56.92\00:06:01.79 Victorian era when the British empire was approaching the 00:06:01.82\00:06:05.86 height of its power. At the time it was said, The sun never sets 00:06:05.89\00:06:11.10 in the British Empire. Their empire spanned the globe. In the 00:06:11.13\00:06:16.74 year that Gandhi was born the British governed a quarter of 00:06:16.77\00:06:20.48 the world's land and population. More than the Roman and Spanish 00:06:20.51\00:06:24.51 Empires at their height. But India was the jewel in the crown 00:06:24.55\00:06:28.58 of the great empire. The British had replaced the Moguls as the 00:06:28.62\00:06:33.46 overlords of the entire region and established a system of 00:06:33.49\00:06:38.26 imperial rule. They ensured that the wealth of the subcontinent 00:06:38.29\00:06:42.03 flowed into Britain. At the age of 19, after his father died, 00:06:42.06\00:06:48.00 Gandhi left home and traveled to England to gain a degree in 00:06:48.04\00:06:51.77 in law at the Inner Temple Law School in London. Around this 00:06:51.81\00:06:55.41 time he became interested in world religions and was 00:06:55.44\00:06:59.58 introduced to the Bible for the first time. Gandhi was deeply 00:06:59.61\00:07:04.09 influenced by the teachings of Jesus, particularly the sermon 00:07:04.12\00:07:07.89 on the mount with its emphasis on humility, forgiveness and 00:07:07.92\00:07:13.36 peace. Jesus of the Bible became the major source of inspiration 00:07:13.40\00:07:16.93 for many of the concepts he promoted. Gandhi remained 00:07:16.97\00:07:21.40 committed to the Bible and its message of peace throughout his 00:07:21.44\00:07:25.57 life. On completing his degree in law Gandhi returned to India. 00:07:25.61\00:07:30.85 He set up a law practice in Bombay, but met with little 00:07:30.88\00:07:35.25 success. He soon accepted a position with an Indian firm 00:07:35.28\00:07:38.59 that sent him to its office in South Africa. Gandhi was 00:07:38.62\00:07:43.53 appalled by the discrimination he experienced as an Indian in 00:07:43.56\00:07:47.70 South Africa. When a European magistrate in Durban asked him 00:07:47.73\00:07:52.37 to take off his turban he refused and left the courtroom. 00:07:52.40\00:07:56.87 On the train journey from Durban to the national capital Pretoria 00:07:56.91\00:08:01.14 Gandhi was thrown off the train for refusing to move from his 00:08:01.18\00:08:05.08 first class seat to a third class even though he held a 00:08:05.11\00:08:09.12 valid first class ticket. Then he was beaten up by a white 00:08:09.15\00:08:13.36 stage coach driver for refusing to give up his seat for a 00:08:13.39\00:08:17.29 European passenger. That train journey served as a turning 00:08:17.33\00:08:21.80 point for Gandhi. 00:08:21.83\00:08:23.16 It was his moment of truth. No longer would he accept 00:08:23.20\00:08:28.90 injustice as the norm. He resolved to oppose racial 00:08:28.94\00:08:32.07 discrimination and defend his dignity as an Indian and as a 00:08:32.11\00:08:36.75 human being. Soon he began developing and teaching, the 00:08:36.78\00:08:41.38 concept of civil disobedience and protest. He called his non 00:08:41.42\00:08:46.12 violent protest satyagraha or passive resistance. It centered 00:08:46.15\00:08:51.79 around peaceful noncooperation with authorities. After 21 years 00:08:51.83\00:08:59.27 in South Africa, Gandhi returned to India in 1915. He landed in 00:08:59.30\00:09:04.41 Bombay is now known as Mumbai and began a relationship with 00:09:04.44\00:09:08.94 the city and its people that spanned decades and only 00:09:08.98\00:09:13.11 strengthened overtime. Whenever Gandhi visited Bombay in 1917 00:09:13.15\00:09:21.49 and 1934 he stayed here in this simple old style building on the 00:09:21.52\00:09:25.99 Bruna Road in the comparatively quiet area known as Yomdedi. 00:09:26.03\00:09:31.73 It's now been converted into a museum known as Manibabwan but 00:09:31.77\00:09:37.04 the most moving part of any visit to Manibabwan is seeing 00:09:37.07\00:09:41.91 Gandhi's simple room on the second floor. It's furnished 00:09:41.94\00:09:45.85 only with a small mattress on the floor, some low tables and his iconic spinning 00:09:45.88\00:09:50.82 wheel that's been immortalized in the center of India's 00:09:50.85\00:09:54.29 national flag. After landing in Bombay Gandhi traveled 400 km 00:09:54.32\00:10:00.86 north and settled in Ahmedabad the capital of his home state of 00:10:00.90\00:10:06.17 Gujarat with a small group of relatives and followers who were 00:10:06.20\00:10:09.77 with him in Africa. After two years he established the Ashram 00:10:09.80\00:10:15.64 a religiously oriented communal farm on 36 acres of peaceful 00:10:15.68\00:10:20.58 shady ground along the banks of the Subamate River. He chose 00:10:20.62\00:10:26.32 this quiet and peaceful location so that he could continue his 00:10:26.35\00:10:30.66 search for truth as well as try farming, keeping cows and 00:10:30.69\00:10:35.23 growing crops. He learned the art of spinning and weaving so 00:10:35.26\00:10:40.17 that he could make his own clothes. Gandhi lived here for 00:10:40.20\00:10:44.71 12 years and the Sabarmati Ashram became his 00:10:44.74\00:10:49.14 headquarters during the long struggle for Indian independence 00:10:49.18\00:10:52.55 It still contains some of Gandhi's furniture and 00:10:52.58\00:10:56.05 belongings including his writing desk and some of his letters. 00:10:56.08\00:11:00.66 His search for truth involved him providing lectures to his 00:11:00.69\00:11:05.49 followers and students from the Gita as well as the Bible, 00:11:05.53\00:11:11.87 especially the sermon on the mount. His teachings from the 00:11:11.90\00:11:14.24 Bible even led to accusations that he was a secret Christian 00:11:14.27\00:11:17.57 Gandhi gathered and combined the teachings of various 00:11:17.61\00:11:21.74 religions. He was deeply moved by the concept of sacrifice, 00:11:21.78\00:11:26.31 Yajna. He found the idea of sacrifice full of beauty and 00:11:26.35\00:11:33.02 power. He saw this ideal of sacrifice as a basis of all 00:11:33.05\00:11:37.09 religions. The chief example of this concept was Jesus Christ 00:11:37.13\00:11:42.53 But although he admired Jesus and his teachings, Gandhi never 00:11:42.56\00:11:47.67 did become a Christian. Something stopped him from 00:11:47.70\00:11:51.31 making that decision and taking that step. When Gandhi arrived 00:11:51.34\00:11:57.81 here in Ackminabad World War I was raging. Indian troops 00:11:57.85\00:12:03.22 Rajpal, Sikhs, Gathas and Punjabi Muslims were making a 00:12:03.25\00:12:07.72 major contribution to the British war effort. Indian 00:12:07.76\00:12:11.73 regiments sailed over seas and fought alongside their Canadian 00:12:11.76\00:12:16.16 and Australian counterparts. Indian nationalists who were 00:12:16.20\00:12:20.90 committed to independence loyally supported the British 00:12:20.94\00:12:24.41 government during the war fully expecting that British victory 00:12:24.44\00:12:28.84 would end with Indian self-rule on the dominion model. But 00:12:28.88\00:12:34.45 instead of self-rule India got repressive legislation. During 00:12:34.48\00:12:38.85 the war the British government of India enacted a series of 00:12:38.89\00:12:42.96 repressive emergency powers that were intended to combat 00:12:42.99\00:12:47.20 subversive activities. This allowed the British to imprison 00:12:47.23\00:12:51.50 anyone suspected of revolutionary conspiracy for up 00:12:51.53\00:12:55.97 to two years without a trial. When the war ended the people of 00:12:56.00\00:13:00.58 India expected that those measures would be removed and 00:13:00.61\00:13:04.51 that India would be given more political independence. But 00:13:04.55\00:13:08.68 instead the British Government of India passed what became 00:13:08.72\00:13:12.65 known as the Rowlett Act in early 1919 which essentially 00:13:12.69\00:13:17.79 extended the repressive wartime measures and aimed them at the 00:13:17.83\00:13:21.50 independence movement. This was met with widespread anger and 00:13:21.53\00:13:26.00 discontent among Indians across the country. The people detested 00:13:26.03\00:13:30.81 the new laws. Indian members of the legislative council resigned 00:13:30.84\00:13:35.44 their seats in protest. Mahatma Gandhi took the protest further. 00:13:35.48\00:13:40.95 In early April from Mit ashram he called for a one-day general 00:13:40.98\00:13:45.89 strike throughout the country as the first step in a full 00:13:45.92\00:13:51.16 scale campaign of nonviolent noncooperation against the new 00:13:51.19\00:13:55.33 laws. The first implementation of the new laws occurred on the 00:13:55.36\00:14:00.54 10th of April here in the heart of Punjab in the Sikh holy city 00:14:00.57\00:14:04.87 of Armrusta and the home of the spectacular golden temple, 00:14:04.91\00:14:08.74 Sikhism's most sacred shrine. The government arrested 00:14:08.78\00:14:13.31 prominent Indian leaders who had called for protest against the 00:14:13.35\00:14:17.45 new laws and banished them from the city without formal charges 00:14:17.49\00:14:21.52 or trials. This sparked violent riots in which a mob was on the 00:14:21.56\00:14:26.83 rampage killing several Europeans, leaving an English 00:14:26.86\00:14:30.30 female missionary for dead and looting banks and public 00:14:30.33\00:14:34.47 buildings. A force of several dozen troops commanded by 00:14:34.50\00:14:39.07 Brigadier-General Dyer were called into Amritsar to 00:14:39.11\00:14:43.35 restore order. They immediately banned all public gatherings but 00:14:43.38\00:14:48.92 despite this a crowd of over 10,000 Indians gathered herein 00:14:48.95\00:14:54.09 this enclosure called Jallianwala Bagh near the golden 00:14:54.12\00:14:58.23 temple. Dyer marched a force of 90 Gergedan Indian soldiers 00:14:58.26\00:15:02.96 into this enclosure and blocked off the exits. Then without 00:15:03.00\00:15:07.34 warning the troops opened fire on the unarmed crowd trapped in 00:15:07.37\00:15:12.47 the enclosure. The soldiers fired off 100s of rounds and 00:15:12.51\00:15:17.21 kept firing until they ran out of ammunition. According to an 00:15:17.25\00:15:22.38 official figure over 1500 unarmed protestors were killed 00:15:22.42\00:15:27.66 or wounded though other estimates suggest much higher 00:15:27.69\00:15:31.69 casualties. Many died when they leapt into a deep well to escape 00:15:31.73\00:15:36.03 the gunfire. After they ceased firing, the troops immediately 00:15:36.06\00:15:41.40 withdrew from the place leaving behind the dead and wounded. 00:15:41.44\00:15:47.74 Today Jallianwala Bagh or Martyr's Park attracts crowds of 00:15:47.78\00:15:52.31 visitors eager to revisit history. They walk down 00:15:52.35\00:15:56.55 Historical Lane along bullet wall where the bullet holes are 00:15:56.58\00:16:01.52 marked white. 00:16:01.56\00:16:02.89 They look down Martyr's Well where many jumped to their 00:16:02.92\00:16:06.29 death in an attempt to avoid the bullets They follow the sign 00:16:06.33\00:16:09.93 posts to the exact location from where the soldiers opened fire 00:16:09.96\00:16:14.87 on the people. The Amutsa massacre was a turning point in 00:16:14.90\00:16:19.74 India's history. It gave strength to the nationalist 00:16:19.77\00:16:23.08 campaign to oust the British. Indian outrage grew as news 00:16:23.11\00:16:28.55 of the shooting spread across the subcontinent. It had a huge 00:16:28.58\00:16:33.62 effect on Gandhi. He was initially hesitant to act but 00:16:33.66\00:16:38.49 now he decided that India should not accept anything less than 00:16:38.53\00:16:43.30 full independence. From the Subamate ashram Gandhi began 00:16:43.33\00:16:49.57 to organize his first national campaign of mass civil 00:16:49.60\00:16:54.38 disobedience across the country against the British. Gandhi 00:16:54.41\00:16:57.58 strongly encouraged the Indian people to boycott British 00:16:57.61\00:17:02.38 products. He advised them to start making their own clothes 00:17:02.92\00:17:05.62 rather than buying British clothing. His program of non 00:17:05.65\00:17:10.59 violent, noncooperation against the British government included 00:17:10.63\00:17:14.93 boycotts not only of British manufacturers but of 00:17:14.96\00:17:18.93 institutions operated or aided by the British in India. Courts, 00:17:18.97\00:17:24.51 schools, offices and legislatures. The impact on the 00:17:24.54\00:17:29.81 economy and the government was immediate and devastating. The 00:17:29.84\00:17:35.38 British retaliated by passing the Salt Act which imposed a 00:17:35.42\00:17:40.16 heavy tax on salt and made it illegal for Indians to make 00:17:40.19\00:17:44.03 their own salt punishable by at least three years in jail. 00:17:44.06\00:17:48.60 Gandhi decided to mount a highly visible nonviolent demonstration 00:17:48.63\00:17:54.34 against the repressive Salt Tax. He called for a salt march. They 00:17:54.37\00:18:02.64 set out from the Ahmedabad Asheram with a group of 00:18:02.68\00:18:05.25 followers to walk to the coastal town of Dandi. Dandi is located 00:18:05.28\00:18:11.05 about 385 km from Ahmedabad on the Arabian sea coast. After 00:18:11.09\00:18:17.39 each day's march Gandhi and his followers stopped in a different 00:18:17.43\00:18:21.36 village along the route where increasingly large crowds 00:18:21.40\00:18:25.13 gathered to hear Gandhi speak against the unfairness of the 00:18:25.17\00:18:28.90 tax on poor people. Thousands of people joined the march as they 00:18:28.94\00:18:34.14 made their way to Dandi on the sea. The march took 24 days. 00:18:34.18\00:18:40.65 When they arrived here in Dandi Gandhi and his followers picked 00:18:40.68\00:18:44.92 up handfuls of salt along the shore and so technically 00:18:44.95\00:18:49.06 producing salt and breaking the law. The march captured the 00:18:49.09\00:18:54.06 imagination and support of the Indian nation. Large groups of 00:18:54.10\00:18:59.53 the population joined in the protest and refused to work, sat 00:18:59.57\00:19:03.97 in the streets, boycotted the courts and more. This forced the 00:19:04.01\00:19:09.28 British to the negotiating table and they invited Gandhi to 00:19:09.31\00:19:14.48 London for a round table conference. Although Gandhi 00:19:14.52\00:19:18.09 received a warm welcome in England the conference foundered 00:19:18.12\00:19:22.12 on the issue of how an independent India would deal 00:19:22.16\00:19:25.79 with its Muslim minority and Gandhi withdrew from public life 00:19:25.83\00:19:31.03 but independence couldn't be delayed for long. The British 00:19:31.07\00:19:34.64 surrendered significant amounts of power to Indians. Mahatma 00:19:34.67\00:19:39.61 Gandhi is one of the most influential people in human 00:19:39.64\00:19:44.61 history. He was educated in India or in England and became 00:19:44.65\00:19:48.98 a serious student of the Bible. He admired and loved Jesus 00:19:49.02\00:19:53.32 Christ and yet he chose not to become a Christian and a 00:19:53.36\00:19:57.89 follower of Jesus. Why? Well Gandhi explained the reason to a 00:19:57.93\00:20:03.43 Christian missionary friend of he, E. Stanley Jones. Jones 00:20:03.47\00:20:08.10 asked Gandhi, Mr. Gandhi, though you quote the words of Christ 00:20:08.14\00:20:13.04 often why is it that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming 00:20:13.07\00:20:17.95 his follower? Gandhi's reply was clear. Oh, I don't reject your 00:20:17.98\00:20:24.35 Christ. I love your Christ. It is just that so many of you 00:20:24.39\00:20:29.52 Christians are so unlike your Christ. If Christians would 00:20:29.56\00:20:34.43 really live according to the teachings of Christ as found in 00:20:34.46\00:20:37.87 the Bible, all of India would be Christian today. Gandhi didn't 00:20:37.90\00:20:44.71 become a Christian because he was generally unimpressed by 00:20:44.74\00:20:48.24 what he saw in the lives of most Christians he knew. Gandhi 00:20:48.28\00:20:52.41 expected to see Christians demonstrating the qualities of 00:20:52.45\00:20:56.58 Christ like unconditional love, forgiveness, meekness and a 00:20:56.62\00:21:02.02 willingness to sacrifice. Gandhi's statements and 00:21:02.06\00:21:05.96 expectations carry a message for us today, because in our 00:21:05.99\00:21:11.47 contemporary world as in Gandhi's day, there's a 00:21:11.50\00:21:15.70 desperate need for genuine Christian witnesses. The Bible 00:21:15.74\00:21:20.21 calls all Christians to translate what they hear and 00:21:20.24\00:21:25.08 believe into what they practice and do. Please notice what the 00:21:25.11\00:21:28.88 Bible says in James chapter 1 and verse 22: 00:21:28.92\00:21:33.79 Christian means a follower of Christ or being like Christ. In 00:21:38.99\00:21:46.13 other words, a Christian is a person whose life is based on 00:21:46.17\00:21:50.34 the teachings and example of Jesus Christ and so people like 00:21:50.37\00:21:55.38 Gandhi and people in our modern world who read about the life 00:21:55.41\00:21:59.11 and teachings of Jesus in the Bible expect to see Christians 00:21:59.15\00:22:03.18 living according to those principles and following the 00:22:03.22\00:22:07.36 example of Jesus and when they don't see that happening in the 00:22:07.39\00:22:10.86 life of Christians, they get disillusioned just like Gandhi 00:22:10.89\00:22:14.53 did. Jesus himself said that his followers would be identified 00:22:14.56\00:22:19.07 by the way they behave and live. Please notice what Jesus said 00:22:19.10\00:22:23.57 about his followers in Matthew chapter 7 and verse 16: 00:22:23.61\00:22:27.84 The old saying is true, actions speak louder than words. Gandhi 00:22:32.65\00:22:37.99 understood this and had a message, four simple suggestions 00:22:38.02\00:22:43.12 for Christians: 1. Begin to live more like Jesus. 2. Practice 00:22:43.16\00:22:49.66 your religion without changing it or watering it down. 3. Put 00:22:49.70\00:22:55.50 your emphasis on love because love is the heart and soul of 00:22:55.54\00:23:01.94 Christianity. And 4. Respect other people's views and beliefs 00:23:01.98\00:23:06.68 They were suggestions from Gandhi. You see he recognized 00:23:06.72\00:23:11.39 that the Bible calls Christians to live as ambassadors for 00:23:11.42\00:23:17.06 Christ. Notice what the Bible says in 00:23:17.09\00:23:18.69 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 20: 00:23:18.73\00:23:22.70 An ambassador represents their king or country and that's what 00:23:27.90\00:23:33.24 Christians are called to do, to represent Christ to the people 00:23:33.27\00:23:37.65 around them. And here's the good news; when Christians accept 00:23:37.68\00:23:41.88 that responsibility they are not left alone to carry out their 00:23:41.92\00:23:46.89 task. In fact, they're so important to God's plan to share 00:23:46.92\00:23:51.23 the good news about Jesus and represent him and expand his 00:23:51.26\00:23:55.93 kingdom that all of heaven stand behind them, just waiting to 00:23:55.96\00:24:00.14 back them up, defend them, provide for them, help and 00:24:00.17\00:24:04.71 assist them. If you'd like to be a true ambassador of Christ to 00:24:04.74\00:24:09.28 the people around you and want heaven to support you, why not 00:24:09.31\00:24:14.25 make that commitment and claim God's help and blessing right 00:24:14.28\00:24:18.19 now as we pray. 00:24:18.22\00:24:20.36 Our dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for Jesus and for the 00:24:20.39\00:24:25.96 many blessings he gives us. Thank you for the privilege of 00:24:25.99\00:24:30.03 being your ambassador and representative to our families, 00:24:30.07\00:24:34.60 to our places of employment, and to our neighborhoods. Lord we 00:24:34.64\00:24:39.94 want to be good ambassadors for you. We want to represent you 00:24:39.97\00:24:43.95 faithfully and accurately in all we do and say. Please give us 00:24:43.98\00:24:48.98 the power and ability to do that We ask in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:24:49.02\00:24:56.73 The story of Mahatma Gandhi has encouraged and inspired people 00:24:56.76\00:25:02.60 all over the world. He brought down an empire by proclaiming 00:25:02.63\00:25:07.07 brotherhood and nonviolence. He influences men like Martin 00:25:07.10\00:25:11.54 Luther King and Nelson Mandela to fight for freedom through 00:25:11.57\00:25:15.94 nonviolent means. He protected the rights of the weak and 00:25:15.98\00:25:20.05 defenseless. He was the champion of the oppressed and downtrodden 00:25:20.08\00:25:24.62 Sometimes we can feel oppressed and downtrodden when struggling 00:25:24.65\00:25:30.63 with the challenges of life or frustrated because we can't be 00:25:30.66\00:25:35.06 the ambassador for Christ that we want to be and are looking 00:25:35.10\00:25:38.27 for ways to live a better life and find inner peace and true 00:25:38.30\00:25:42.90 happiness. If you'd like to get closer to God, live a better 00:25:42.94\00:25:46.81 life and be an ambassador for God then I'd like to recommend 00:25:46.84\00:25:51.11 a free gift we have for all our viewers today.
