¤ ¤ 00:00:03.43\00:00:31.73 I'm in the north island of New Zealand. This small grave on a 00:00:31.76\00:00:37.70 lonely hillside about 150 km south of Auckland in the Waikato 00:00:37.73\00:00:43.47 region near Matamata marks the memorial site of a young Maury 00:00:43.51\00:00:48.14 girl whose death changed the course of New Zealand's history. 00:00:48.18\00:00:52.81 The arrival of muskets with European traders dramatically 00:00:52.88\00:00:57.59 changed the way Maury conducted intertribal warfare to settle 00:00:57.62\00:01:02.32 old scores or take revenge. Some Aotearoa Mayori chiefs soon 00:01:02.36\00:01:08.36 realized that muskets would give them enormous advantage in 00:01:08.40\00:01:12.53 warfare. These chiefs purchased large numbers of these weapons 00:01:12.57\00:01:17.67 and attacked their rivals with devastating effect. 00:01:17.71\00:01:21.38 The introduction of muskets changed Aotearoa, New Zealand 00:01:21.41\00:01:26.05 forever. The loss of life was immense and yet out of all this 00:01:26.08\00:01:32.45 hatred and violence comes a story of peace, hope and 00:01:32.49\00:01:39.39 forgiveness. This inspiring story will bring you hope and 00:01:39.43\00:01:42.63 and give you courage. 00:01:42.66\00:01:47.37 ¤ ¤ 00:01:47.40\00:02:08.52 The plague of war. It's a phenomenon that has cursed 00:02:08.56\00:02:12.23 humanity since the dawn of time. It's so destructive and horrible 00:02:12.26\00:02:18.53 and yet has there ever been time on planet earth when we've been 00:02:18.57\00:02:22.14 free of it? People try to solve disputes over land. People 00:02:22.17\00:02:27.84 wanting to lord it over others, people thirsting for power, 00:02:27.88\00:02:32.01 people seeking revenge. Whatever the reason the hideous 00:02:32.05\00:02:37.02 prospect of war rears its ugly head again and again in our 00:02:37.05\00:02:42.32 world. It doesn't have to be this way. Is war the only 00:02:42.36\00:02:46.90 solution to a crisis? Isn't there a better way to solve our 00:02:46.93\00:02:51.67 problems? There are cases in history where a better solution 00:02:51.70\00:02:56.50 to war has been found. Often these cases involve people 00:02:56.54\00:03:01.11 thinking far outside the square or where they make incredible 00:03:01.14\00:03:06.05 sacrifices, taking huge risks and most importantly battled 00:03:06.08\00:03:11.92 against the war in their own hearts. Today we're going to 00:03:11.95\00:03:18.16 look at one such example, but we're going to have to step back 00:03:18.19\00:03:21.80 in time a couple of centuries. By 1835 Christian missionaries 00:03:21.83\00:03:30.11 had been in Aotearoa, New Zealand for about 20 years. They 00:03:30.14\00:03:35.34 wanted to bring the uplifting effect of the gospel of Jesus 00:03:35.38\00:03:39.58 Christ to the Maury people living there and end the vicious 00:03:39.61\00:03:43.08 cycle of revenge and killing. The missionaries found the Maury 00:03:43.12\00:03:48.29 to be very intelligent and quick and keen to learn new things. 00:03:48.32\00:03:52.86 They also found that Maury were very adept at surviving in 00:03:52.89\00:03:58.23 Aotearoa, New Zealand. Using simple stone tools they could 00:03:58.27\00:04:03.57 fell large trees and from these make seaworthy vessels, canoes 00:04:03.61\00:04:08.78 called Waka. They would expertly navigate their boats 00:04:08.81\00:04:13.05 around the often turbulent waters of New Zealand. From the 00:04:13.08\00:04:17.85 flat bush they could make warm comfortable clothing, baskets, 00:04:17.89\00:04:22.56 snares for catching birds and nets for catching fish. They 00:04:22.59\00:04:27.56 possessed a great knowledge of the medicinal properties of the 00:04:27.60\00:04:30.90 many plants in Aotearoa, New Zealand. And Maury were masters 00:04:30.93\00:04:36.87 at obtaining food from the forests, rivers, and sea. But 00:04:36.91\00:04:42.61 when it came to negotiating the way through intertribal 00:04:42.64\00:04:45.38 difficulties or disagreements, Maury were bound by utu to 00:04:45.41\00:04:51.12 demand restitution or repayment. 00:04:51.15\00:04:53.52 For a child growing up under Utu it could be really difficult 00:04:53.56\00:05:00.00 They were hard times. They were anxious with anxiety not knowing 00:05:00.03\00:05:09.80 what's going to happen. Really difficult times. 00:05:09.84\00:05:16.04 But it was in its most extreme form, that of revenge, that utu 00:05:16.08\00:05:21.18 was most strongly practiced by some Maury chiefs. At this time 00:05:21.22\00:05:26.76 the passion and obsession to repay others for wrongdoing 00:05:26.79\00:05:30.83 escalated. There was no end in sight to this cycle of repayment 00:05:30.86\00:05:35.63 and revenge. The fighting was fierce and bloody. Multitudes 00:05:35.66\00:05:41.27 were killed. However in Aotearoa New Zealand the harsher aspect 00:05:41.30\00:05:48.04 of utu, revenge was turned on its heels by the message of 00:05:48.08\00:05:52.51 Jesus Christ. And that story begins with a little girl. 00:05:52.55\00:05:57.45 Traore was about 12 years old when missionaries, Elfred and 00:05:57.49\00:06:02.69 Charlotte Brown came to her iwi, her tribe, in April 1835. They 00:06:02.72\00:06:08.96 began a Christian mission amongst her people, the Nate 00:06:09.00\00:06:14.00 Hawa in Matamata. Traore attended this mission school. 00:06:14.04\00:06:19.31 She also worked in the Brown's household helping with various 00:06:19.34\00:06:23.85 chores. About a year earlier, in 1834, a man named William 00:06:23.88\00:06:30.02 Kalinsa was living Piea. He was a missionary printer and had 00:06:30.05\00:06:34.36 produced a thousand copies of what Maury called Te Ronwapi a 00:06:34.39\00:06:39.23 Ruka, the gospel 00:06:39.26\00:06:40.60 or good news according to Luke in the Bible. These books were 00:06:40.63\00:06:46.23 printed in the Maury language and circulated throughout the 00:06:46.27\00:06:49.70 top of the north island. A small stash of these had found their 00:06:49.74\00:06:54.58 way to Alfred and Charlotte's mission. At the mission, among 00:06:54.61\00:06:59.05 other things Elfred and Charlotte taught Tarore and 00:06:59.08\00:07:03.08 other Maury how to read and write and the books that Maury 00:07:03.12\00:07:07.29 learned to read from were portions of the Bible. Maury 00:07:07.32\00:07:11.93 were captivated by reading these books, the word of the great God 00:07:11.96\00:07:16.56 of the heavens. It was thrilling to them. In missions around New 00:07:16.60\00:07:21.87 Zealand large numbers of Maury applied themselves diligently to 00:07:21.90\00:07:26.68 the task and soon many were proficient at reading and 00:07:26.71\00:07:30.11 writing, they were reading the message of Jesus Christ and his 00:07:30.15\00:07:34.58 forgiveness and love for all humanity. The words in this book 00:07:34.62\00:07:39.75 challenged them and it changed many of them. By the late 1830s 00:07:39.79\00:07:43.59 a large number of Maury were connecting with Christianity. 00:07:43.63\00:07:48.86 One of these was Aranatiera, or chief, named Nakukuk, young 00:07:48.90\00:07:55.37 Traore's father. 00:07:55.40\00:07:57.04 All the changes in Nakuku's life were immense. His whole self 00:07:57.07\00:08:04.15 changed. You know, coming from the world that he knew and 00:08:04.18\00:08:09.02 understood we use the term Gadaffi which really means the 00:08:09.05\00:08:17.39 old ways, that path of resents. He would have been trained for 00:08:17.43\00:08:24.97 war. He was a warrior and his exposure to the gospel would 00:08:25.00\00:08:32.94 bring a real change to his life. 00:08:32.97\00:08:35.58 Things were beginning to move and change for the better as the 00:08:35.61\00:08:40.62 message of peace and forgiveness spread through this iwi, this 00:08:40.65\00:08:45.05 tribe. However at this early and vulnerable state of the mission 00:08:45.09\00:08:49.52 a chief from Tarore's iwi was murdered by a member of another 00:08:49.56\00:08:55.26 iwi in December 1835. Tensions between the Matamata people and 00:08:55.30\00:09:03.24 the enemy tribe erupted. Retributions followed and the 00:09:03.27\00:09:08.44 Nate Hawa stood helplessly by as the mission was plundered. In 00:09:08.48\00:09:14.52 the unstable environment Elfred Brown made the sad decision to 00:09:14.55\00:09:19.22 abandon the mission. As a new Christian Nakuku refused to 00:09:19.25\00:09:24.33 fight back. In his view, the Bible was his new weapon and he 00:09:24.36\00:09:29.36 made this clear in a bold speech when holding a Bible in his hand 00:09:29.40\00:09:33.34 he negotiated peace with an enemy. But with 20 or so 00:09:33.37\00:09:38.34 children of the mission something had to be done to 00:09:38.37\00:09:41.64 protect them from the violence that was breaking out. 00:09:41.68\00:09:44.91 Eventually Nakuku decided to take the children to Tilarana. A 00:09:44.95\00:09:52.22 mission helper named John Flat would come too. Flat had a horse 00:09:52.25\00:09:56.93 and together the small group began the 50 km trek to Tilarana 00:09:56.96\00:10:02.53 They had to cross the Taimai ranges and with so many children 00:10:02.56\00:10:07.67 the pace was slow. When they got about halfway they decided 00:10:07.70\00:10:12.01 to stop and camp overnight. It is understood that the camp 00:10:12.04\00:10:17.25 site was near here by the Wyhani falls, the highest waterfall in 00:10:17.28\00:10:22.48 the north island. In those days there was a bull rush shelter 00:10:22.52\00:10:26.99 there and this is where most of the traveling party would sleep. 00:10:27.02\00:10:30.09 John Flat slept outside a little distance from the hut. In the 00:10:30.13\00:10:35.00 evening the little group sat around their campfire. They read 00:10:35.03\00:10:39.00 the Bible and prayed together. They discussed the many new 00:10:39.03\00:10:43.51 things that were happening in their country. Soon the camp 00:10:43.54\00:10:46.98 settled down for the night and before long everyone was fast 00:10:47.01\00:10:52.05 asleep. Just before down, however, they were woken by the 00:10:52.08\00:10:57.82 loud barking of one of their dogs. Then they heard something 00:10:57.85\00:11:02.49 terrifying, shouting and the thundering sound of approaching 00:11:02.52\00:11:06.49 footsteps. Guessing that an enemy iwi, another tribe, had 00:11:06.53\00:11:10.93 found them, Nakuku commanded that the children flea into the 00:11:10.97\00:11:15.14 bush as quickly as they could. Carrying his young son on his 00:11:15.17\00:11:18.81 back he too fled into the forest The marauders were not 00:11:18.84\00:11:24.31 interested in the life of the European helper, John Flat. 00:11:24.35\00:11:27.85 but they were interested in his property. They plundered his 00:11:27.88\00:11:33.02 tent, even taking the clothes he was wearing and this gave Nakuku 00:11:33.05\00:11:37.36 and the others a few moments to flee. They escaped into the 00:11:37.39\00:11:42.33 surrounding bush. It was a mad panic with everyone running 00:11:42.36\00:11:46.67 helter skelter for cover. But the enemy had muskets and shots 00:11:46.70\00:11:51.94 were fired. John Flat stood in shock as one of the children 00:11:51.97\00:11:58.11 fell to the ground and then he watched in horror as the enemy 00:11:58.15\00:12:02.68 took parts of the child's body including her heart for their 00:12:02.72\00:12:06.96 ritual ceremony. And then as suddenly as they had come they 00:12:06.99\00:12:12.56 were gone. Eventually Nakuku and the children returned to the 00:12:12.59\00:12:20.37 camp where the chief found that the disfigured body of the child 00:12:20.40\00:12:24.21 He was devastated. It was his child, his beloved daughter, 00:12:24.24\00:12:30.45 Tarore. With great sadness he picked up her body. With the 00:12:30.48\00:12:36.42 traumatized group he carried her back to Matamata. What thoughts 00:12:36.45\00:12:42.29 must have tortured the mind of the newly converted Nakuku. 00:12:42.32\00:12:46.33 What was to become of his daughter? Was she forever lost? 00:12:46.36\00:12:51.13 Would he see her in heaven? When they arrived the question 00:12:51.17\00:12:57.11 was on everyone's lips. Would Nakuku now demand utu, would he 00:12:57.14\00:13:03.18 seek revenge? Surely he must give up on his missionary ways 00:13:03.21\00:13:07.55 forget Christianity and avenge the murder of his daughter. 00:13:07.58\00:13:13.99 Cries for utu and revenge simmered in the hearts of some. 00:13:14.02\00:13:17.43 But at the funeral the next day Nakuku made known his decision. 00:13:17.46\00:13:22.86 His profound speech was recorded by the missionary, 00:13:22.90\00:13:26.63 Elfred Brown. 00:13:26.67\00:13:28.00 There lies my child. She has been murdered as payment for 00:13:28.04\00:13:34.38 yobanunger. But do not rise to seek payment for her. God will 00:13:34.41\00:13:40.05 do that. Let this be the finish of the war with the enemy. 00:13:40.08\00:13:44.19 Now let peace be made. Him village teach us to come to 00:13:44.22\00:13:47.42 you. They 00:13:47.46\00:13:48.79 came and now you are driving them away. You are fine for my 00:13:50.49\00:13:54.96 girl, I am fine for you, for myself, for all of us. Perhaps 00:13:55.00\00:14:00.74 this murder is a sign of God's anger towards us for our sins. 00:14:00.77\00:14:05.41 Turn to him, believe, or you will all perish. 00:14:05.44\00:14:12.21 Tarore was buried and in the strength of his new found belief 00:14:12.25\00:14:16.22 in Christ Nakuku bravely continued to reject the cry for 00:14:16.25\00:14:21.52 utu, for revenge that clamored in his mind. This memorial grave 00:14:21.56\00:14:26.96 site has been erected to remember the story and the 00:14:27.00\00:14:30.83 wonderful forgiveness of Nakuku. But the story doesn't end here. 00:14:30.87\00:14:36.91 Meanwhile the enemy chief, the man who had killed Tarore, 00:14:36.94\00:14:41.91 returned to his path, his fortified village. 00:14:41.94\00:14:45.85 Among the things this tribal 00:14:45.88\00:14:47.38 chief had plundered from the camp site at Wyhani falls was 00:14:47.42\00:14:52.12 Nakuku' s copy of Te Aronapaia Ruka, the Bible book of Luke the 00:14:52.15\00:14:58.23 book that Tarore had learned to read from. He couldn't read. He 00:14:58.26\00:15:02.93 didn't know what it contained. But somehow he sensed a value in 00:15:02.96\00:15:07.74 this strange little book and wondered what it was all about. 00:15:07.77\00:15:12.11 He didn't discard the book, but kept it deciding he would wait 00:15:12.14\00:15:16.34 until he could find someone who could explain its mystery to him 00:15:16.38\00:15:20.22 It was only a matter of time before the puzzle would be 00:15:20.25\00:15:23.99 solved for him. Slavery was not uncommon among Maury but with 00:15:24.02\00:15:29.49 the calming effect of the gospel this practice gradually 00:15:29.52\00:15:33.06 decreased. By the 1830s slavery was losing its hold. Maury 00:15:33.09\00:15:39.53 captives were being released as missionaries lived and worked 00:15:39.57\00:15:42.87 with Maury tribes. They taught Maury about the love of God and 00:15:42.90\00:15:47.88 the respect God wants for people to give each other. Amazingly 00:15:47.91\00:15:52.01 freed captives would sometimes remain with their former captors 00:15:52.05\00:15:56.82 They would stay so that they could learn from the 00:15:56.85\00:15:59.25 missionaries the new art of reading and writing. At this 00:15:59.29\00:16:04.03 time many Maury became missionaries in their own right. 00:16:04.06\00:16:07.53 Many people believe it was one of these educated freed slaves 00:16:07.56\00:16:13.40 who unraveled the mystery of the little book to Tarore's killer. 00:16:13.44\00:16:18.24 When Tarore's killer came upon one of these educated freed 00:16:18.27\00:16:23.71 slaves, he asked him to read out the words from his little book. 00:16:23.75\00:16:27.72 At first, it must have sounded all very strange but he listened 00:16:27.75\00:16:33.02 with great interest. As he heard more the words played on his 00:16:33.05\00:16:38.99 mind. He sensed a freshness and beauty in them. It was as if a 00:16:39.03\00:16:44.17 whole new world was opening up to him. 00:16:44.20\00:16:46.84 If you do good only to those who do good to you why should you 00:16:46.87\00:16:52.44 receive a blessing. Even sinners do that. Now love your enemies 00:16:52.47\00:16:58.61 and do good to them. 00:16:58.65\00:17:00.22 The words opened his mind to a whole new concept and dream out 00:17:00.25\00:17:05.95 of himself. What a contrast they provided to utu. He began to see 00:17:05.99\00:17:11.89 himself in an altogether different light and as he 00:17:11.93\00:17:15.56 pondered these words, he became more and more restless. 00:17:15.60\00:17:18.97 He felt an awful sense of guilt for what he'd done to Tarore. 00:17:19.00\00:17:23.81 In time Tarore's killer learned that Jesus had paid the penalty 00:17:23.84\00:17:29.54 and would take the payment for his wrong doing. His part would 00:17:29.58\00:17:34.42 be to trust and believe that Jesus would do this for him and 00:17:34.45\00:17:38.69 from there he could grow into a better man. Bright new 00:17:38.72\00:17:43.12 impulses sprung up in his heart. He longed to engage with this 00:17:43.16\00:17:47.23 new God who was so loving, kind and selfless. But again he 00:17:47.26\00:17:52.97 became ashamed when he thought of what he'd done to Tarore. 00:17:53.00\00:17:56.77 What would this new God want him to do? Maybe he could make some 00:17:56.81\00:18:02.38 small gesture to her father. He knew that Nakuku had become a 00:18:02.41\00:18:07.12 Christian. After all, he had a missionary with him at Wyhali 00:18:07.15\00:18:11.22 Falls didn't he. As he pieced this together an idea drifted 00:18:11.25\00:18:16.52 into his mind. One day Nakuku received an unusual request at 00:18:16.56\00:18:23.26 the Christian village where he was living. The enemy chief, the 00:18:23.30\00:18:27.30 one who had killed his daughter sent a message asking if he 00:18:27.34\00:18:31.27 could join this Christian village. The message of Jesus 00:18:31.31\00:18:35.44 had worked a wonderful reformation in the heart of 00:18:35.48\00:18:39.05 Nakuku. Forgiveness was the only way forward. There was only one 00:18:39.08\00:18:45.52 answer that Nakuku could give. He invited his daughter's killer 00:18:45.55\00:18:50.19 to come to his village. Soon the day came when the two men faced 00:18:50.23\00:18:55.06 each other. Watu could sense forgiveness in the expression of 00:18:55.10\00:19:00.47 Nakuku. Then the noble chief extended his hand toward his 00:19:00.50\00:19:04.77 daughter's killer. Looking to the love of Jesus who had 00:19:04.81\00:19:08.91 forgiven his sins, Nakuku forgave the man who had so 00:19:08.94\00:19:13.35 brutally taken the life of his young daughter. And before long 00:19:13.38\00:19:18.35 this man too, this murderer, gave his heart to Jesus and was 00:19:18.39\00:19:23.73 baptized. Sometime after this Nakuku visited his old enemy to 00:19:23.76\00:19:30.87 encourage him in his new faith. The forgiveness and 00:19:30.90\00:19:34.50 reconciliation had not faded. Together they two men knelt 00:19:34.54\00:19:39.74 before God expressing the joy of release from utu. They relished 00:19:39.77\00:19:45.01 in the peace and freedom they had found by following in the 00:19:45.05\00:19:48.65 footsteps of the Lord Jesus. And what's more, the peace and 00:19:48.68\00:19:53.72 forgiveness brought through the gospel has been enduring. 00:19:53.76\00:19:57.49 To this day, over 180 years later, the two iwis, the two 00:19:57.53\00:20:04.30 tribes remain at peace. However there is even more to this 00:20:04.33\00:20:09.67 incredible and moving story. Nkuku's book of Luke hadn't 00:20:09.70\00:20:14.74 quite finished its work yet. The gospel of Jesus was reaching and 00:20:14.78\00:20:19.58 permeating more and more tribes across Aotearoa, New Zealand. 00:20:19.61\00:20:24.65 The revenge and killing were significantly decreasing and 00:20:24.69\00:20:29.09 more and more Maury captives were being released. One of 00:20:29.12\00:20:33.50 these freed captives was a man named Arapaho who was returning 00:20:33.53\00:20:38.57 to his fauno, his extended family, in Wellington. He too 00:20:38.60\00:20:42.80 had learned how to read and write from missionaries in the 00:20:42.84\00:20:45.67 far north while he was captive among the Naputu. As he passed 00:20:45.71\00:20:50.91 through Carpati, he came upon two young men who were closely 00:20:50.95\00:20:54.85 related to each other. Their names were Katu and Matanatufifu 00:20:54.88\00:21:00.69 of the Nate Toarangatera and Nate Rocawa people. They started 00:21:00.72\00:21:06.59 talking to each other and Arapaho told them about the work 00:21:06.63\00:21:10.20 that the missionaries were doing and the message they were 00:21:10.23\00:21:12.87 sharing. The cousins were intrigued by this message of 00:21:12.90\00:21:16.54 forgiveness and peace. Then when Arapaho told them that his 00:21:16.57\00:21:21.01 captors had released him and that captives were being 00:21:21.04\00:21:24.05 released all throughout the north island, the two men could 00:21:24.08\00:21:27.32 really see that something very different and new was happening 00:21:27.35\00:21:31.35 in their country. They became more and more interested in what 00:21:31.39\00:21:35.82 Arapaho was saying and wanted to learn more about his religion 00:21:35.86\00:21:40.20 and way of life that was more powerful than utu. They asked 00:21:40.23\00:21:45.83 Arepaho to teach them and he gladly obliged. He began to read 00:21:45.87\00:21:51.17 to them about the life and teachings of a very special man 00:21:51.21\00:21:55.21 who lived in Israel 1800 years earlier. Like Maury all over the 00:21:55.24\00:22:01.82 country Katu and Tufifu were thrilled at being able to learn 00:22:01.85\00:22:05.39 to read and write. Listen to the words of Katu which he would 00:22:05.42\00:22:09.86 later write: 00:22:09.89\00:22:11.23 We learned every day, every night. We did not lie down to 00:22:11.26\00:22:15.76 sleep. We sat at night in the hut all around the fire in the 00:22:15.80\00:22:20.34 middle. Fifi had a part of the book and I had a part. Sometimes 00:22:20.37\00:22:24.37 we went to sleep upon the book then wake up and read again. 00:22:24.41\00:22:30.48 With a passionate thirst they absorbed the words of the book. 00:22:30.51\00:22:34.12 And what book was it? It was the book of Luke from the Bible. And 00:22:34.15\00:22:38.99 incredibly it had the name Nakuku handwritten on the inside 00:22:39.02\00:22:45.43 cover. It's not known how but somehow Nakuku's Bible, the same 00:22:45.46\00:22:51.73 book from which Tarore had learned to read had found its 00:22:51.77\00:22:55.20 way down to these two men at Carpati. Christianity brought an 00:22:55.24\00:23:02.64 honorable alternative to utu that had been directing Maury 00:23:02.68\00:23:07.52 for so long. Incredibly the words of scripture enabled many 00:23:07.55\00:23:13.19 Maury to put the harsher aspects of utu behind them and 00:23:13.22\00:23:17.76 move forward, forgiving their enemies and believing in the 00:23:17.79\00:23:21.96 promises of the Bible. The old chief from Carpati, Teroparihaw 00:23:22.00\00:23:27.24 could see the changes for the better were happening all across 00:23:27.27\00:23:32.74 the country. The old traditional way was being given over to a 00:23:32.77\00:23:37.11 new way. Before long even he asked for missionaries to come 00:23:37.15\00:23:42.62 and live with his tribe and then he had this large church built. 00:23:42.65\00:23:48.32 Through the power of the bible and the gospel of Jesus to 00:23:48.36\00:23:52.76 change lives Teroparihaw's terrifying raids on the south 00:23:52.79\00:23:56.93 island were at an end. The dawn of a new way was opening for 00:23:56.97\00:24:02.07 the indigenous people throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand and it 00:24:02.10\00:24:06.98 started with a young Maury girl whose small white grave is found 00:24:07.01\00:24:11.28 on a lonely hillside hear Matamata. The heart of this 00:24:11.31\00:24:15.58 child became the incentive for peace and forgiveness. At her 00:24:15.62\00:24:20.49 funeral the father prayed that vengeance would belong to God. 00:24:20.52\00:24:24.09 Nakuku never gave up hoping divine justice. The vengeance of 00:24:24.13\00:24:30.83 God was the repentance and transformation of his daughter's 00:24:30.87\00:24:36.40 murderer and her story has become a symbol of peace and 00:24:36.44\00:24:40.88 hope forever. If you'd like to experience the peace, hope and 00:24:40.91\00:24:45.88 forgiveness that changed the lives of the Maury warriors and 00:24:45.91\00:24:50.85 brought them true happiness, why not ask for it now as we pray? 00:24:50.89\00:24:55.76 Our loving heavenly Father, we see in the Aotearoa, New Zealand 00:24:55.79\00:25:03.93 story what humanity can develop into without your word impacting 00:25:03.97\00:25:08.00 on our various cultures. But we thank you that we have in this 00:25:08.04\00:25:12.77 country's story such graphic evidence of the goodness of your 00:25:12.81\00:25:17.48 word and the peace it brings. We see the contrast between 00:25:17.51\00:25:21.88 man's ways and your ways. Your way heals, it restores, it 00:25:21.92\00:25:28.12 brings peace. Bless our hearts and help us to remember the 00:25:28.16\00:25:33.53 absolute importance of following your ways instead of our own, 00:25:33.56\00:25:38.73 in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:25:38.77\00:25:44.27 If you're battling with the challenges of life and would 00:25:44.31\00:25:47.78 like to experience the peace, hope and forgiveness that 00:25:47.81\00:25:51.21 changed the lives of the mighty Maury warriors and brought them 00:25:51.25\00:25:54.85 true happiness, then I'd like to recommend a free gift we have 00:25:54.88\00:25:58.35 for all our viewers today.
