If you visit the old city of Jerusalem today, 00:00:05.11\00:00:07.58 the purchase of a kilo of rice, bananas or nuts, 00:00:07.61\00:00:10.89 don't be surprised if you find that they use an old fashioned 00:00:10.92\00:00:14.68 scale and weights to measure your order. 00:00:14.71\00:00:18.24 This scale and these weights are important 00:00:18.27\00:00:20.95 as they will be the judge, 00:00:20.98\00:00:22.42 the arbiter of whether or not you get your full kilo. 00:00:22.45\00:00:26.81 After all, if you're paying for a kilo, 00:00:26.84\00:00:29.98 you will be wanting what you paid for. 00:00:30.01\00:00:32.82 And speaking of scales, 00:00:32.85\00:00:34.76 the legal system in America is symbolized by a woman, 00:00:34.79\00:00:38.58 a Roman goddess actually named Themis. 00:00:38.61\00:00:41.52 With a scale in her hand she seeks to weigh the truth 00:00:41.55\00:00:44.74 and so dispense justice in a fair, 00:00:44.77\00:00:47.16 balanced, and impartial way. 00:00:47.19\00:00:49.64 But some 1300 years, 00:00:49.67\00:00:51.57 before the Roman bestirred themselves to become a nation, 00:00:51.60\00:00:54.84 God made it clear that judgment and justice 00:00:54.87\00:00:58.45 were very important qualities 00:00:58.48\00:01:00.23 in those He chose as his friends. 00:01:00.26\00:01:02.93 In fact, His whole kingdom, 00:01:02.96\00:01:04.70 the very foundation of His throne 00:01:04.73\00:01:06.73 is built upon judgment and justice. 00:01:06.76\00:01:10.51 Thus saith the Lord says the prophet Isaiah, 00:01:10.54\00:01:13.45 "Keep ye judgment, and do justice 00:01:13.48\00:01:17.99 for my salvation is near to come, 00:01:18.02\00:01:20.33 and my righteousness to be revealed." 00:01:20.36\00:01:23.10 So it should be no surprise that Emmanuel, 00:01:23.13\00:01:26.59 "God with us" made judgment 00:01:26.62\00:01:28.55 an important part of His doctrines and teachings. 00:01:28.58\00:01:32.62 His teachings fly in the face, 00:01:32.65\00:01:34.37 of the now almost universally reinvented Jesus, 00:01:34.40\00:01:38.33 the Jesus who has been emasculated, 00:01:38.36\00:01:41.30 the Jesus who accepts everyone, as part of His kingdom. 00:01:41.33\00:01:44.68 No matter their choices. 00:01:44.71\00:01:47.36 But the universalists message 00:01:47.39\00:01:49.00 that everyone will be saved in the end, 00:01:49.03\00:01:51.55 does not balance in the scale of truth 00:01:51.58\00:01:54.46 when compared to the teachings of Christ. 00:01:54.49\00:01:57.64 Some 2000 years ago, 00:01:57.67\00:01:59.67 the teachings of Jesus regarding the judgment 00:01:59.70\00:02:02.58 caused a great deal of thunder in the Holy Land. 00:02:02.61\00:02:05.79 And based on the current social pressure 00:02:05.82\00:02:08.47 to create and enact laws that silenced these teachings. 00:02:08.50\00:02:11.98 I would say they are still causing thunder today. 00:02:12.01\00:02:15.39 The question may be asked, why does God need a judgment? 00:03:08.33\00:03:11.85 Why can't He just let everyone alone? 00:03:11.88\00:03:14.16 After all, we're all basically good or are we? 00:03:14.19\00:03:20.19 Since 1922, the worldwide statistic 00:03:20.22\00:03:23.35 for abortions of convenience is nearly 2,300,000 per year. 00:03:23.38\00:03:29.76 Each year 15 million people starve worldwide 00:03:29.79\00:03:34.39 while there is enough grain to supply every person 00:03:34.42\00:03:37.41 on this planet with two loaves of bread per day. 00:03:37.44\00:03:41.35 In the US alone, we experience 00:03:41.38\00:03:43.65 1,300,000 reported violent crimes per year. 00:03:43.68\00:03:48.25 While at the same time 00:03:48.28\00:03:49.65 we open the door to the "entertainment" industry 00:03:49.68\00:03:52.21 inviting them to saturate our minds 00:03:52.24\00:03:54.86 and those of our children with acts of violence. 00:03:54.89\00:03:58.54 No, I don't think this basically good sentiment 00:03:58.57\00:04:01.81 would pass the judgment bar of God, 00:04:01.84\00:04:04.14 since He already has judged our hearts as desperately wicked. 00:04:04.17\00:04:08.99 In fact, Jesus' comment in Luke 11:13 could be understood 00:04:09.02\00:04:12.48 to be basically good means actually evil. 00:04:12.51\00:04:17.69 And all the while our sins are causing more pain, 00:04:17.72\00:04:20.92 sorrow, sadness, heartache, sickness, and death. 00:04:20.95\00:04:24.28 If we want all these bad things to go away, 00:04:24.31\00:04:27.93 then sin needs to go away. 00:04:27.96\00:04:31.24 And to help accomplish that goal, 00:04:31.27\00:04:33.46 God has convened a judgment. 00:04:33.49\00:04:37.17 in vision Jesus told John, his last living apostle 00:04:37.20\00:04:41.13 that there would come an hour that the judgment would begin. 00:04:41.16\00:04:45.89 With the encouragement of Jesus to study 00:04:45.92\00:04:47.84 and understand the Book of Daniel, 00:04:47.87\00:04:50.16 we learned in our previous program 00:04:50.19\00:04:52.23 that the judgment hour started in 1844 as the final event 00:04:52.26\00:04:57.15 of the longest time prophecy in the Bible. 00:04:57.18\00:05:00.41 Let's look at that verse once again. 00:05:00.44\00:05:02.82 Daniel 8:14, "And he said unto me, 00:05:04.35\00:05:07.11 Unto two thousand and three hundred days, 00:05:07.14\00:05:10.07 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." 00:05:10.10\00:05:13.66 But what does it mean to cleanse the sanctuary 00:05:13.69\00:05:16.37 and why would it need cleansing? 00:05:16.40\00:05:19.09 If we want to really understand the judgment, 00:05:19.12\00:05:21.63 then we need to really understand the sanctuary. 00:05:21.66\00:05:24.87 So our reporters have teamed up in Timna, 00:05:24.90\00:05:27.61 deep in the south of Israel 00:05:27.64\00:05:29.75 at a replica of the ancient tabernacle. 00:05:29.78\00:05:32.72 Hi, guys. Hey. Hello. 00:05:32.75\00:05:35.11 Looks dry there? It is Charles, and hot. 00:05:35.14\00:05:39.32 Well, it's only supposed to get up to 112 today, 00:05:39.35\00:05:42.03 45 degrees Celsius. 00:05:42.06\00:05:45.09 Well, let's get moving before it gets too hot. 00:05:45.12\00:05:47.41 Too late, we've already passed that point. 00:05:47.44\00:05:49.82 I'll tell you one thing though. 00:05:49.85\00:05:51.43 Being here makes me a lot more sympathetic 00:05:51.46\00:05:53.08 towards the children of Israel 00:05:53.11\00:05:54.50 who wandered in the desert for 40 years. 00:05:54.53\00:05:56.95 Now the reason we're here is 00:05:56.98\00:05:58.76 because of two passages of scripture. 00:05:58.79\00:06:00.70 The first is the teachings of Jesus. 00:06:00.73\00:06:03.19 He said in John 5:39 "Search the scriptures, 00:06:03.22\00:06:06.77 for in them ye think ye have eternal life, 00:06:06.80\00:06:09.40 and they are they which testify of me." 00:06:09.43\00:06:13.05 It is the doctrine of Jesus that the Bible points to Him 00:06:13.08\00:06:15.59 as our Savior and Messiah. 00:06:15.62\00:06:17.53 Today, I believe you see that in a profound way. 00:06:17.56\00:06:21.11 The second verse is found in Psalm 77:13 00:06:21.14\00:06:25.19 "Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary, 00:06:25.22\00:06:28.18 and who is so great a God as our God?" 00:06:28.21\00:06:31.50 The tabernacle made by Moses and the children of Israel 00:06:31.53\00:06:34.71 during there desert wanderings explains the way of God. 00:06:34.74\00:06:38.88 If you want to know who He is and what He's doing? 00:06:38.91\00:06:42.65 Look to the sanctuary. 00:06:42.68\00:06:44.75 Some might say that for the New Testament believer 00:06:44.78\00:06:48.36 the Old Tabernacle is not important. 00:06:48.39\00:06:51.48 But if you read Paul's letter to the Hebrews, 00:06:51.51\00:06:53.69 you will find that he mentions the word 'tabernacle' nine times 00:06:53.72\00:06:57.19 and it's used 15 times in the New Testament. 00:06:57.22\00:06:59.90 Four times Paul uses the word 'sanctuary,' 00:06:59.93\00:07:03.30 another name for this ancient church. 00:07:03.33\00:07:06.44 So if we're going to learn about Jesus and the Day of Judgment, 00:07:06.47\00:07:10.06 this is the place to be. So let's go. 00:07:10.09\00:07:13.35 No theme in the Bible is greater 00:07:15.72\00:07:17.78 or more important than salvation. 00:07:17.81\00:07:20.26 This theme will be the study and science of the redeemed 00:07:20.29\00:07:23.80 throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity, 00:07:23.83\00:07:26.92 like a giant fractal. 00:07:26.95\00:07:28.95 The love of God will continue to expand, 00:07:28.98\00:07:32.00 leaving infinite room for exploration and contemplation. 00:07:32.03\00:07:36.93 So God created in this sandbox illustration, 00:07:36.96\00:07:40.69 a portal that would direct the minds of His people 00:07:40.72\00:07:44.08 to Himself, His love, 00:07:44.11\00:07:46.51 His plan for their redemption and the judgment. 00:07:46.54\00:07:50.39 Here you will see His plan and purpose 00:07:50.42\00:07:53.66 to finally rid our hearts of sin and its curse. 00:07:53.69\00:07:58.60 Okay, remember team it's all about Jesus, 00:08:00.26\00:08:03.19 so check it out and tell us what you find. 00:08:03.22\00:08:07.08 The first thing we see is the simple tent structure 00:08:07.11\00:08:10.40 surrounded by a courtyard. 00:08:10.43\00:08:12.42 It could be the home of anyone, but this was to be tent, 00:08:12.45\00:08:15.66 the dwelling place of Jehovah, the God of all creation. 00:08:15.69\00:08:20.89 God said, "Let them make me a sanctuary 00:08:20.92\00:08:24.33 that I may dwell among them." 00:08:24.36\00:08:27.47 So the primary purpose of this tent 00:08:27.50\00:08:30.32 was that man and God could be together, 00:08:30.35\00:08:33.61 interacting and having fellowship. 00:08:33.64\00:08:36.07 And that way that truly does testify of Jesus. 00:08:36.10\00:08:40.06 For Isaiah said, "The Lord himself shall give you a sign. 00:08:40.09\00:08:44.12 Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, 00:08:44.15\00:08:47.82 and shall call his name Immanuel." 00:08:47.85\00:08:50.71 Immanuel is the name that means "with us is God." 00:08:50.74\00:08:55.72 The tabernacle was placed in the center of the camp, 00:08:55.75\00:08:58.61 so that God could be with them. 00:08:58.64\00:09:02.07 And when Jesus came to earth it was for the same reason. 00:09:02.10\00:09:05.49 God wants to be with us, you and me. 00:09:05.52\00:09:09.16 I don't think where you can fully grasp 00:09:09.19\00:09:11.58 how intimate this illustration is. 00:09:11.61\00:09:14.22 But Paul writing to the folks in Corinth put it this way, 00:09:14.25\00:09:17.65 "You are the temple of the living God, 00:09:17.68\00:09:21.59 as God hath said, I will dwell in them, 00:09:21.62\00:09:25.74 and walk in them, and I will be their God, 00:09:25.77\00:09:30.27 and they shall be my people." 00:09:30.30\00:09:32.72 Much more than just living in a tabernacle amongst the people, 00:09:32.75\00:09:37.23 He wants us to be the sanctuary. 00:09:37.26\00:09:40.72 He wants to dwell in us. 00:09:40.75\00:09:44.28 As you enter the courtyard of the sanctuary, 00:09:47.71\00:09:49.87 the first thing you would see 00:09:49.90\00:09:51.27 is the 'Altar of Burnt Offerings' 00:09:51.30\00:09:52.97 where animals were sacrificed. 00:09:53.00\00:09:54.79 If anyone sinned, he or she would come to the tabernacle 00:09:54.82\00:09:58.47 and bring a spotless lamb with no defects. 00:09:58.50\00:10:01.66 Then they would place their hands 00:10:01.69\00:10:03.38 upon the head of the lamb and confess their sins, 00:10:03.41\00:10:06.93 the lies, the adultery, the bitterness, 00:10:06.96\00:10:09.85 the pride, the envy, the theft everything, 00:10:09.88\00:10:13.57 anything that would stop one 00:10:13.60\00:10:15.47 from being intimately connected to God. 00:10:15.50\00:10:18.49 This is how we come to God, to His house, 00:10:18.52\00:10:22.53 just as we are, sin-stained and damaged. 00:10:22.56\00:10:26.02 But we don't come alone. 00:10:26.05\00:10:28.01 We come with a lamb that is going to take our sins, 00:10:28.04\00:10:31.34 with the lamb that would become our sin and die in our place. 00:10:31.37\00:10:36.07 It is our sin-stained hands that must take the knife 00:10:36.10\00:10:39.54 and slay the innocent 00:10:39.57\00:10:41.18 who is punished on behalf of the guilty. 00:10:41.21\00:10:44.38 Now I'm going to share with you something that is important. 00:10:44.41\00:10:47.69 This will become significant in the need for the sanctuary 00:10:47.72\00:10:50.59 to be cleansed and the judgment. 00:10:50.62\00:10:53.66 The sacrificial blood was then carried by the priests 00:10:53.69\00:10:57.02 into the sanctuary and sprinkled before the veil or the curtain 00:10:57.05\00:11:00.62 separating the Holy Place from the most Holy Place. 00:11:00.65\00:11:04.49 The priest would also put some of the blood 00:11:04.52\00:11:07.05 on the horns of the altar of incense. 00:11:07.08\00:11:10.03 Everything burned on this altar was a representation of sin. 00:11:10.06\00:11:14.44 Jesus was made to be sin for us 00:11:14.47\00:11:17.19 and was offered for all our sins. 00:11:17.22\00:11:20.19 This altar was for the express purpose 00:11:20.22\00:11:22.86 of connecting us to Jesus, 00:11:22.89\00:11:25.32 the Lamb of God, the ultimate sacrifice. 00:11:25.35\00:11:30.00 Paul tells us God is a consuming fire. 00:11:30.03\00:11:33.39 Like the Israelites of old, 00:11:33.42\00:11:35.01 we can come now confessing our sins 00:11:35.04\00:11:37.84 and accepting the merits of Christ in our behalf. 00:11:37.87\00:11:41.11 We can let His consuming presence cause us 00:11:41.14\00:11:44.59 to hate the sin that hurts and kills our precious Savior. 00:11:44.63\00:11:48.86 Burning up our desire to sin any longer 00:11:48.89\00:11:52.27 or we can hold on to those sins 00:11:52.30\00:11:54.93 and let that same fire consume them and us in the end. 00:11:54.96\00:12:00.57 The choice is ours. 00:12:00.60\00:12:03.09 The next item, God used to speak about His ways, 00:12:04.31\00:12:07.29 His plans was a brass laver with water in it. 00:12:07.32\00:12:10.67 You can well imagine that slaughtering an animal 00:12:10.70\00:12:12.99 and then burning it was not a clean process. 00:12:13.02\00:12:15.78 So after sacrificing the animals, 00:12:15.81\00:12:18.18 the priest would use this water to wash their hands and feet 00:12:18.21\00:12:20.75 before entering the sanctuary. 00:12:20.78\00:12:22.66 This was not simply an optional part of the service 00:12:22.69\00:12:25.45 because if the priest would have entere 00:12:25.48\00:12:26.85 into the presence of God without washing, he would die. 00:12:26.88\00:12:29.86 We can come to God as we are, 00:12:31.30\00:12:33.03 but we must not plan to stay that way. 00:12:33.06\00:12:35.71 We must be washed and cleaned. 00:12:35.74\00:12:38.09 This water represents baptism. 00:12:38.12\00:12:40.51 True baptism is a complete death to self. 00:12:40.54\00:12:43.54 You know, I've never met a dead person who has a drug problem. 00:12:43.57\00:12:46.94 Dead people don't smoke either. 00:12:46.97\00:12:48.94 I've never seen a dead lady cheat on her husband. 00:12:48.97\00:12:51.28 Baptism is literal when we die to self. 00:12:51.31\00:12:54.80 When choose a life of Christ and then live new life 00:12:54.83\00:12:56.98 different from the old, that's a miracle, 00:12:57.01\00:12:59.87 and that miracle is a gift from God. 00:12:59.90\00:13:02.61 But we still must cooperate with this miracle. 00:13:02.64\00:13:04.78 The priest had to cooperate by bringing 00:13:04.81\00:13:07.13 his hands and feet in contact with the water. 00:13:07.16\00:13:09.73 But it was the water that made him clean. 00:13:09.76\00:13:12.51 The same is true for us. 00:13:12.54\00:13:13.91 For this water is none other than Jesus 00:13:13.94\00:13:16.16 who works that miracle of grace 00:13:16.19\00:13:17.66 in those who humbly come and receive life from Him. 00:13:17.69\00:13:21.91 Now once the confessions were made, 00:13:21.94\00:13:24.32 once the sacrifice was offered, 00:13:24.35\00:13:26.27 once the washing was finished, 00:13:26.30\00:13:28.49 the priest continued the service, 00:13:28.52\00:13:30.56 inside the sanctuary. 00:13:30.59\00:13:32.70 Just inside the sanctuary and to the left in south 00:13:32.73\00:13:35.79 is the seven branched lampstand. 00:13:35.82\00:13:38.15 It was made from a whole talent of gold. 00:13:38.18\00:13:41.08 A talent of gold is approximately 75 pounds. 00:13:41.11\00:13:45.26 This lamp stand used the pressed oil of olives 00:13:45.29\00:13:47.74 and was kept burning night and day. 00:13:47.77\00:13:50.51 Moses recorded that the whole lampstand 00:13:50.54\00:13:52.90 "shall be one beaten work of pure gold." 00:13:52.93\00:13:56.47 And of course, this piece of sacred furniture 00:13:56.50\00:13:58.53 once again is a symbol of Jesus. 00:13:58.56\00:14:02.14 For He said, "I am the light of the world." 00:14:02.17\00:14:06.60 According to Paul, this light is an apt symbol 00:14:06.63\00:14:09.25 for the knowledge of God. 00:14:09.28\00:14:11.32 "For God, who commanded the light 00:14:11.35\00:14:14.00 to shine out of the darkness, hath shined in our hearts, 00:14:14.03\00:14:17.52 to give the light of the knowledge 00:14:17.55\00:14:19.44 of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 00:14:19.47\00:14:22.96 If you want to know the truth, 00:14:22.99\00:14:24.41 then you have to have the knowledge of God. 00:14:24.44\00:14:27.43 Jesus brought us all the truth we need about a loving Father 00:14:27.46\00:14:31.66 who longs to redeem us from sin and from death. 00:14:31.69\00:14:36.54 And before we move on, 00:14:36.57\00:14:38.03 let's look at one more prophesy concerning Christ. 00:14:38.06\00:14:41.35 Isaiah 53:5, "He was wounded for our transgressions, 00:14:41.38\00:14:46.65 he was bruised for our iniquities, 00:14:46.68\00:14:49.04 and the chastisement of our peace was upon him, 00:14:49.07\00:14:53.08 and with his stripes we are healed." 00:14:53.11\00:14:57.24 God foresaw that His own son 00:14:57.27\00:14:59.78 would also be beaten and so give us light. 00:14:59.81\00:15:04.09 It is as we see Him suffering for our sins 00:15:05.29\00:15:07.74 and for those of the entire world 00:15:07.77\00:15:09.93 that we can experience His great and wonderful love. 00:15:09.96\00:15:15.98 Directly across from the candlestick 00:15:16.01\00:15:17.81 and to the north is the table of showbread. 00:15:17.84\00:15:20.66 I like the way the Revised Standard Version 00:15:20.69\00:15:23.02 translates Exodus 25:30. 00:15:23.05\00:15:26.04 "And you shall set the bread of the Presence 00:15:26.07\00:15:28.34 on the table before me always." 00:15:28.37\00:15:31.21 Once again we see God wanting to be with us 00:15:31.24\00:15:34.64 to have His presence 00:15:34.67\00:15:36.16 always nourishing us and strengthening us. 00:15:36.19\00:15:39.29 And, yes, this also represents Christ. 00:15:39.32\00:15:42.36 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven." 00:15:42.39\00:15:46.78 Jesus said in John 6:51, "If any man eat of this bread, 00:15:46.81\00:15:51.63 he shall live for ever, 00:15:51.66\00:15:53.91 and the bread that I will give is my flesh, 00:15:53.94\00:15:57.18 which I will give for the life of the world." 00:15:57.21\00:16:00.71 Of course, He later explains that His flesh is in fact, 00:16:00.74\00:16:03.90 the living and powerful words of life. 00:16:03.93\00:16:07.26 All of His knowledge, His words, His testimonies 00:16:07.29\00:16:10.85 which are the Spirit of Prophecy will nourish us, 00:16:10.88\00:16:14.67 giving us life and strength to live for Him and with Him. 00:16:14.70\00:16:19.80 So many people have absorbed bad attitudes, 00:16:19.83\00:16:23.11 feelings and even habits 00:16:23.14\00:16:24.91 from their fathers and mothers, even while in utero. 00:16:24.94\00:16:28.61 But through the assimilation of this bread, this living word, 00:16:28.64\00:16:32.77 we can overcome every inherited and cultivated tendency to evil. 00:16:32.80\00:16:37.70 A great principal of life declares, 00:16:37.73\00:16:40.10 "By beholding we become changed." 00:16:40.13\00:16:43.14 By eating and digesting this bread daily, 00:16:43.17\00:16:47.16 often, we too become like Christ 00:16:47.19\00:16:51.16 experiencing His very presence, 00:16:51.19\00:16:54.05 peace, directions, purposes, and love. 00:16:54.08\00:17:00.04 The final article of furniture in this room, 00:17:00.07\00:17:01.85 the Holy Place is the Altar of Incense. 00:17:01.88\00:17:04.64 Each day the priest would come 00:17:04.67\00:17:06.12 and place incense upon the coals 00:17:06.15\00:17:07.97 causing a sweet fragrance to loft upward. 00:17:08.00\00:17:10.87 This incense gives us a picture of how God feels 00:17:10.90\00:17:13.56 about prayers of His people, 00:17:13.59\00:17:15.30 when they come to Him in daily humility 00:17:15.33\00:17:17.37 is outlined in these sanctuary services. 00:17:17.40\00:17:19.84 Our prayers are a sweet savor in His nostrils. 00:17:19.87\00:17:23.20 In the heavenly sanctuary of which, this is a type. 00:17:23.23\00:17:26.48 Incense is mixed with the prayers of God's people. 00:17:26.51\00:17:28.68 Revelation 8:3 let's us peek into 00:17:28.71\00:17:30.61 the very throne room of God. 00:17:30.64\00:17:32.66 "And another angel came and stood at the altar, 00:17:32.69\00:17:35.21 having a golden censer, 00:17:35.24\00:17:36.72 and there was given unto him much incense, 00:17:36.75\00:17:39.26 that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints 00:17:39.29\00:17:41.72 upon the golden altar which was before the throne." 00:17:41.75\00:17:44.56 Just a side point, it is this censer 00:17:46.01\00:17:48.38 filled with the intercessory prayers of His people 00:17:48.41\00:17:50.34 that starts the prayers in Revelation 8. 00:17:50.37\00:17:52.78 And I'm convinced that not until we commence to praying 00:17:52.81\00:17:55.61 for God's kingdom to come and His will to be done, 00:17:55.64\00:17:58.47 will He start the final and rapid end time movements 00:17:58.50\00:18:01.27 that will close the sin chapter of earth's history. 00:18:01.30\00:18:04.03 And, yes, once again this is a type of Christ 00:18:04.06\00:18:08.52 and His ministry on our behalf. 00:18:08.55\00:18:10.49 First, He is our priest 00:18:10.52\00:18:12.68 who is standing before the throne of God. 00:18:12.71\00:18:14.61 And why is He there? 00:18:14.64\00:18:16.01 He would stand before the throne offering His blood, 00:18:16.04\00:18:18.58 as the great sacrifice for all our sins. 00:18:18.61\00:18:21.44 And second, He is the incense Himself 00:18:21.47\00:18:24.83 mingling our small and impotent prayers 00:18:24.86\00:18:27.07 with His own omnipotent, powerful prayers 00:18:27.10\00:18:29.66 claiming gifts in our behalf. 00:18:29.69\00:18:32.36 "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost 00:18:32.39\00:18:35.96 that come unto God by him, 00:18:35.99\00:18:38.10 seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." 00:18:38.13\00:18:41.39 So you've now seen all three pieces 00:18:41.42\00:18:43.13 of furniture in the Holy Place. 00:18:43.16\00:18:45.24 There is just one more item behind this curtain. 00:18:45.27\00:18:48.78 This is the Ark of the Covenant 00:18:48.81\00:18:51.37 and it stands in the most Holy Place 00:18:51.40\00:18:53.85 of the earthly tabernacle. 00:18:53.88\00:18:56.04 This is a representation of the very throne room of God. 00:18:56.07\00:19:00.57 The first thing, you notice are these two angels, 00:19:00.60\00:19:03.15 the covering cherubs who attend Him. 00:19:03.18\00:19:06.39 They are the highest angels of whom Gabriel is now one. 00:19:06.42\00:19:10.72 Lucifer used to have one of these physicians 00:19:10.75\00:19:13.35 before he coveted God's throne for himself 00:19:13.38\00:19:15.82 and rebelled against his creator. 00:19:15.85\00:19:18.45 Of course, if it was a real throne of an earthly king, 00:19:18.48\00:19:22.44 this would be an uncomfortable seat. 00:19:22.47\00:19:25.11 But God is a Spirit 00:19:25.14\00:19:27.13 and the presence of the Almighty 00:19:27.16\00:19:28.97 hovered over this throne with Shekinah glory. 00:19:29.00\00:19:32.94 Do you know what He calls this seat? 00:19:32.97\00:19:35.40 God calls His throne, "The Mercy Seat." 00:19:35.43\00:19:40.44 What a wonderful God? 00:19:40.47\00:19:42.57 And while He does have mercy, 00:19:42.60\00:19:44.73 His government's foundation is set upon immutable laws 00:19:44.76\00:19:49.31 based on the principle of love. 00:19:49.34\00:19:52.29 They are the Ten Commandments. 00:19:52.32\00:19:54.51 These unassailable principles were written in stone 00:19:54.54\00:19:57.98 with the finger of God 00:19:58.01\00:19:59.77 and are as unchangeable as the eternal God Himself. 00:19:59.80\00:20:04.86 If they could have been abrogated, 00:20:04.89\00:20:06.91 if they could have been eliminated, 00:20:06.94\00:20:08.98 then Jesus never would have had to go to the cross. 00:20:09.01\00:20:12.93 Jesus believed in this laws 00:20:12.96\00:20:15.34 stored here in the Ark of the Covenant. 00:20:15.37\00:20:17.64 He said, "He did not come to destroy it." 00:20:17.67\00:20:20.44 On the contrary, His chosen people had abused it. 00:20:20.47\00:20:24.22 Actually making an idol of it 00:20:24.25\00:20:26.56 and He had come to put it back in its right place. 00:20:26.59\00:20:30.48 Now once a year and only once a year 00:20:30.51\00:20:33.36 the high priest alone would enter this room 00:20:33.39\00:20:36.34 to perform a most solemn service. 00:20:36.37\00:20:39.29 It was called the "Day of Atonement." 00:20:39.32\00:20:41.70 And it was a type of the antitypical cleansing 00:20:41.73\00:20:44.76 of the heavenly sanctuary mentioned in Daniel 8:14. 00:20:44.79\00:20:49.01 "And he said unto me, 00:20:49.04\00:20:50.69 Unto two thousand and three hundred days, 00:20:50.72\00:20:53.04 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." 00:20:53.07\00:20:56.65 So what was the Day of Atonement all about? 00:20:56.68\00:20:59.97 Well, day by day, all year long sacrifices had been made. 00:21:00.00\00:21:05.44 The priest over an over carried the blood 00:21:05.47\00:21:07.88 from the sacrifices into the Holy Place, 00:21:07.91\00:21:11.02 placing it upon the horns of the Altar of Incense 00:21:11.05\00:21:14.14 and sprinkling it before the veil. 00:21:14.17\00:21:17.11 This daily action carried the sins 00:21:17.14\00:21:19.67 from the people into the sanctuary. 00:21:19.70\00:21:22.78 And so, "An atonement for the Holy Place, 00:21:22.81\00:21:25.96 because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, 00:21:25.99\00:21:28.99 and because of their transgressions 00:21:29.02\00:21:30.70 in all their sins needed to be made." 00:21:30.73\00:21:34.65 So once a year, on the last day of the year, 00:21:34.68\00:21:37.47 atonement was made for the sanctuary and the people. 00:21:37.50\00:21:41.42 This day was set aside 00:21:41.45\00:21:42.89 for the people to afflict their soul. 00:21:42.92\00:21:45.78 It was a day of sincere introspection before God 00:21:45.81\00:21:48.68 with prayer, fasting, and deep searching of the heart. 00:21:48.71\00:21:52.37 They were to make sure that there were 00:21:52.40\00:21:54.04 no unconfessed sins in their life. 00:21:54.07\00:21:57.42 Everything was to be made right. 00:21:57.45\00:22:00.40 Then two goats were chosen by lot. 00:22:00.43\00:22:03.14 One was to be the Lord's goat representing Jesus, 00:22:03.17\00:22:06.34 the other, the scapegoat which represented Satan 00:22:06.37\00:22:09.88 the enemy of God and his followers. 00:22:09.91\00:22:12.71 The Lord's goat was killed 00:22:12.74\00:22:14.38 and its blood was taken into the sanctuary. 00:22:14.41\00:22:17.36 That blood was used to wash the sanctuary clean 00:22:17.39\00:22:20.98 of all the sins of the people 00:22:21.01\00:22:23.12 that had collected during the year. 00:22:23.15\00:22:25.49 Those sins were carried by the priest 00:22:25.52\00:22:28.15 back out of the sanctuary 00:22:28.18\00:22:30.02 and then the true guilt was placed symbolically 00:22:30.05\00:22:32.60 upon the symbol of the one truly responsible 00:22:32.63\00:22:35.88 for the sins of mankind, Satan himself. 00:22:35.91\00:22:41.10 Then this goat was led away by a fit man into the wilderness. 00:22:41.13\00:22:45.22 Now these were domesticated goats 00:22:45.25\00:22:47.63 and left alone in the wilderness, 00:22:47.66\00:22:49.53 they didn't stand a chance. 00:22:49.56\00:22:52.12 The wilderness contains 00:22:52.15\00:22:53.66 no feral herds of domesticated goats. 00:22:53.69\00:22:57.48 Now what does all this mean? 00:22:57.51\00:22:59.95 Well, one thing is for sure, 00:23:01.87\00:23:03.72 this whole sandbox illustration was only symbolic. 00:23:03.75\00:23:07.25 "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats 00:23:07.28\00:23:10.01 should take away sins." Paul tells us in Hebrews 10:4. 00:23:10.04\00:23:14.18 This blood was in symbol of the cleansing agent 00:23:14.21\00:23:16.89 that washed the sinner clean 00:23:16.92\00:23:18.72 and also it was only 00:23:18.75\00:23:20.34 symbolically cleansing the sanctuary. 00:23:20.37\00:23:22.47 This is not to downplay or minimize its importance. 00:23:22.50\00:23:25.30 It has a very important role and that role was to point 00:23:25.33\00:23:28.04 the followers of God towards Jesus 00:23:28.07\00:23:30.25 and the day that Jesus, the true Lamb of God 00:23:30.28\00:23:32.51 would shed His blood in our behalf. 00:23:32.54\00:23:35.45 That's right, Stephen. 00:23:35.48\00:23:36.85 And this dramatic Day of Atonement 00:23:36.88\00:23:38.71 and the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:23:38.74\00:23:40.70 also point's us to Jesus. 00:23:40.73\00:23:43.06 Listen to what Jesus taught in His doctrines. 00:23:43.09\00:23:45.95 "The Father judges no man, 00:23:45.98\00:23:47.73 but has committed all judgment unto the Son. 00:23:47.76\00:23:50.87 And the Father has given Him 00:23:50.90\00:23:52.45 authority to execute judgment also, 00:23:52.48\00:23:54.79 because He is the Son of man." 00:23:54.82\00:23:57.91 You see the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary 00:23:57.94\00:24:00.47 of which the earthly was a type or shadow, 00:24:00.50\00:24:03.39 foreshadows the final judgment 00:24:03.42\00:24:05.45 when everyone's case will be decided by Jesus Himself. 00:24:05.48\00:24:10.04 And why is that important to me here and now? 00:24:10.07\00:24:13.86 Because as we learned in our last study, 00:24:13.89\00:24:16.43 this investigative judgment has already begun 00:24:16.46\00:24:19.68 when every case has been decided by Jesus 00:24:19.71\00:24:23.56 and the judgment, He will announce. 00:24:23.59\00:24:26.25 "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still, 00:24:26.28\00:24:29.83 and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still, 00:24:29.86\00:24:33.34 and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still, 00:24:33.37\00:24:37.25 and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 00:24:37.28\00:24:41.18 And, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, 00:24:41.21\00:24:45.11 to give every man according as his work shall be." 00:24:45.14\00:24:49.04 There is no more time to play games with God. 00:24:49.07\00:24:51.54 We are moments away 00:24:51.57\00:24:53.48 from the Savior of the world returning. 00:24:53.51\00:24:56.32 All cases decided. 00:24:56.35\00:24:58.28 He already has His reward with Him. 00:24:58.31\00:25:00.80 No second chances. There's no appeals. 00:25:00.83\00:25:04.77 And that's an important call to each one of our hearts. 00:25:04.80\00:25:08.49 Listen to the teaching of Jesus from Matthew 5:48. 00:25:08.52\00:25:12.21 "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father 00:25:12.24\00:25:15.38 which is in heaven is perfect." 00:25:15.41\00:25:18.24 That seems like an impossibly tall order, 00:25:18.27\00:25:20.65 but the question that I have to ask myself 00:25:20.68\00:25:22.97 and perhaps you do too 00:25:23.00\00:25:25.35 is am I letting God not only call me righteous 00:25:25.38\00:25:28.24 through the justification of Christ, 00:25:28.27\00:25:30.59 but am I also letting Him make me righteous 00:25:30.62\00:25:33.33 through the sanctification of my heart? 00:25:33.36\00:25:35.96 Jesus loves us. 00:25:35.99\00:25:37.74 He doesn't want any of us to miss out on the new heaven 00:25:37.77\00:25:40.12 and the new earth that He's preparing for us. 00:25:40.15\00:25:42.67 We have to keep saying, yes, to Him 00:25:42.70\00:25:45.00 with all our known choices, if we would be saved. 00:25:45.03\00:25:48.20 When He calls you to obedience? Say, yes. 00:25:48.23\00:25:52.00 When He calls you to service? Say, yes. 00:25:52.03\00:25:55.41 The judgment is so permanent. 00:25:55.44\00:25:57.72 We will either end up like Sodom and Gomorrah 00:25:57.75\00:26:00.03 or we will end up with Jesus 00:26:00.06\00:26:01.77 and the angels, our heavenly Father 00:26:01.80\00:26:03.95 and those who we had loved on earth forever and ever. 00:26:03.98\00:26:08.85 The choice is yours. 00:26:08.88\00:26:10.70 The entire life and ministry of Jesus 00:26:12.47\00:26:15.32 was foreshadowed in the sanctuary service. 00:26:15.35\00:26:18.35 He is our sacrifice, our lamb. 00:26:18.38\00:26:22.57 He is our water of life, our living bread, our light 00:26:22.60\00:26:29.26 and He as our high priest 00:26:29.29\00:26:31.31 interceding for us in the judgment. 00:26:31.34\00:26:35.05 Jesus was clear that there will be a judgment 00:26:35.08\00:26:38.05 and the prophecy of Daniel 8 and 9 00:26:38.08\00:26:40.29 clearly sets the starting day 1844. 00:26:40.32\00:26:44.12 In 1844, the "Day of Atonement" 00:26:44.15\00:26:46.72 or "Yom Kippur" was on October 22. 00:26:46.75\00:26:50.67 It's going on right now. 00:26:50.70\00:26:54.72 I'm convinced that that judgment will soon be finished 00:26:54.75\00:26:58.25 and everyone will be either saved or lost for eternity. 00:26:58.28\00:27:03.28 So what about you, friend? 00:27:03.31\00:27:05.98 Will you like Christ be your minister 00:27:06.01\00:27:08.15 in the heavenly sanctuary just as He was on the cross? 00:27:08.18\00:27:11.90 Will you choose to allow His sacrifice 00:27:11.93\00:27:14.96 to win your heart making it obedient to His love? 00:27:14.99\00:27:19.51 Did you know "Thunder in the Holy Land" 00:28:04.17\00:28:06.00 is a fun to share, powerful one hour Bible study, 00:28:06.03\00:28:10.24 bought with the engaging 30 minute high def video, 00:28:10.27\00:28:12.88 in the prepared discussion, 00:28:12.91\00:28:14.61 questions that take to small group 00:28:14.64\00:28:16.87 straight to the heart of the matter? 00:28:16.90\00:28:18.75 Thunder is a delightful and rewarding way 00:28:18.78\00:28:21.55 to share the teachings of Jesus. 00:28:21.58\00:28:24.82 Check it out at QLP.tv. 00:28:24.85\00:28:27.93
