There's a mountain considered sacred in Jewish history 00:00:07.52\00:00:11.22 but it seems we've lost its coordinates. 00:00:11.25\00:00:14.43 Some say it's in the Sinai Peninsula. 00:00:14.46\00:00:18.83 Others have come to believe 00:00:18.86\00:00:20.23 that it's in the desert of Saudi Arabia. 00:00:20.26\00:00:23.73 Wherever it is, inspiration tells us that 00:00:23.76\00:00:26.57 this mountain is the backdrop for the day love thundered. 00:00:26.60\00:00:32.03 The book of Exodus is such an exciting book in the Bible 00:00:32.06\00:00:35.94 because it reveals the deity who is a personal God. 00:00:35.97\00:00:39.66 One who cares about His creation. 00:00:39.69\00:00:42.39 One who's interested in their personal lives and happiness. 00:00:42.42\00:00:47.24 Exodus presents a God who actually talks with people, 00:00:47.27\00:00:51.21 not only with one exalted person but millions of people. 00:00:51.24\00:00:55.65 Indeed it was the very purpose of God 00:00:55.68\00:00:58.60 for all the people to hear His voice and know Him. 00:00:58.63\00:01:03.56 "And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee 00:01:03.59\00:01:06.92 in a thick cloud that the people may hear 00:01:06.95\00:01:10.45 when I speak and believe." 00:01:10.48\00:01:14.27 God shows this mountain as His podium 00:01:14.30\00:01:17.00 and the surrounding desert plain as His amphitheater. 00:01:17.03\00:01:21.12 And the thunder from this momentous event 00:01:21.15\00:01:23.80 still wraps our world in His embrace. 00:01:23.83\00:01:27.91 The disciple John, the only disciple 00:02:21.99\00:02:24.46 that did not die a martyr's death, 00:02:24.49\00:02:26.33 declared in 1 John 4:8, "God is love." 00:02:26.36\00:02:32.28 God is love and all He does is motivated by love, 00:02:32.31\00:02:36.92 a love for the lost and dying. 00:02:36.95\00:02:39.82 "Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love. 00:02:39.85\00:02:43.92 Therefore, with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." 00:02:43.95\00:02:48.27 That desert mountain is important, 00:02:48.30\00:02:50.79 not so much for where it is but for what happened there. 00:02:50.82\00:02:54.69 I believe this is the place love thundered. 00:02:54.72\00:02:59.69 Thanks, Charles. 00:02:59.72\00:03:01.09 Thunder in the Holy land has been and continues to be 00:03:01.12\00:03:04.78 a study about the teachings and life of Jesus. 00:03:04.81\00:03:07.99 Many people who take the name of Christ, 00:03:08.02\00:03:10.90 Christian, have been lead to believe 00:03:10.93\00:03:13.22 that the commandments given by Jehovah 00:03:13.25\00:03:15.29 at Mount Sinai were done away with at the cross 00:03:15.32\00:03:18.11 and are no longer binding for New Testament believers. 00:03:18.14\00:03:22.26 However, to come to that conclusion 00:03:22.29\00:03:24.76 one must turn a blind eye to the clear 00:03:24.79\00:03:27.57 and direct doctrines and teachings of Christ. 00:03:27.60\00:03:31.00 So what did Jesus teach about the law? 00:03:31.03\00:03:34.24 Let's check it out in Matthew 5:17, 18. 00:03:34.27\00:03:37.95 "Think not that I am come to destroy 00:03:37.98\00:03:40.59 the law, or the prophets. 00:03:40.62\00:03:42.40 I am not come to destroy but to fulfil. 00:03:42.43\00:03:46.12 For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, 00:03:46.15\00:03:49.82 one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass 00:03:49.85\00:03:53.66 from the law, till all be fulfilled." 00:03:53.69\00:03:57.18 A simple bit of scientific observation should lead us 00:03:57.21\00:04:01.16 to determine that heaven and earth are still here. 00:04:01.19\00:04:04.19 Our conclusion then must be that the law still here, 00:04:04.22\00:04:07.73 valid and important in the mind of Jesus. 00:04:07.76\00:04:11.22 But in these verses Jesus used the words 00:04:11.25\00:04:13.67 "fulfil" and "fulfilled." 00:04:13.70\00:04:17.07 That's the apparent escape clause and some of you 00:04:17.10\00:04:19.80 feel jealous in god's love 00:04:19.83\00:04:21.20 from their present religious experience. 00:04:21.23\00:04:23.63 They claim that Christ fulfilled the law 00:04:23.66\00:04:26.33 when He died on the cross. 00:04:26.36\00:04:28.60 However, complete reading of the Bible 00:04:28.63\00:04:30.83 including the writings of the Apostle Paul 00:04:30.86\00:04:33.79 indicate something very different. 00:04:33.82\00:04:36.67 For the purpose of Jesus coming and dying on the cross 00:04:36.70\00:04:39.82 wasn't merely to do something for us 00:04:39.85\00:04:42.08 that we couldn't do for ourselves 00:04:42.11\00:04:44.65 keeping the law but He also came to show us 00:04:44.68\00:04:47.84 the way it could be done in us. 00:04:47.87\00:04:50.60 Notice carefully the teachings of Paul 00:04:50.63\00:04:53.01 to the New Testament believers 00:04:53.04\00:04:54.41 that New Dispensation believers in Romans 8: 3, 4. 00:04:54.44\00:04:59.04 Notice that Paul fully intended 00:05:19.43\00:05:21.12 the law to also be fulfilled in us. 00:05:21.15\00:05:24.35 It seems strange to get rid of something you intend 00:05:24.38\00:05:26.58 to have played out in the lives of your followers. 00:05:26.61\00:05:29.68 The law given to God's chosen people 00:05:29.71\00:05:32.33 at the foot of Mount Sinai was a good thing. 00:05:32.36\00:05:35.42 It guided the people into the way of life. 00:05:35.45\00:05:38.08 In fact, apart from the folks in Rome 00:05:38.11\00:05:40.69 that the law was holy and the commandment 00:05:40.72\00:05:43.31 was holy and just and good. 00:05:43.34\00:05:46.99 On the same note, Paul wrote to Timothy these words, 00:05:47.02\00:05:50.28 "We know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully." 00:05:50.31\00:05:55.11 At the foot of Mount Sinai God gave the people 00:05:55.14\00:05:57.38 a good law written in stone to guide them into a good place. 00:05:57.41\00:06:02.71 And Jesus clearly wants that law to be fulfilled in us. 00:06:02.74\00:06:08.76 You're right, Levi. 00:06:08.79\00:06:10.21 The eternal nature of God's law is clearly laid out 00:06:10.24\00:06:12.54 in the words of Jesus in Luke 16:17. 00:06:12.57\00:06:15.70 "It is easier for heaven and earth to pass, 00:06:15.73\00:06:18.00 than one tittle of the law to fail." 00:06:18.03\00:06:20.75 And there's a reason you can't get rid of God's law 00:06:20.78\00:06:23.17 because if you did, you'd also get rid of His love. 00:06:23.20\00:06:26.36 In fact, one experience Jesus had with the lawyer 00:06:26.39\00:06:29.26 points out what the heart of the law really is. 00:06:29.29\00:06:32.54 This lawyer actually used a question, tempting Him. 00:06:32.57\00:06:35.05 You can read about it in Matthew 22:36. 00:06:35.08\00:06:38.19 "Teacher," the lawyer asked, 00:06:38.22\00:06:39.90 "which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 00:06:39.93\00:06:42.58 Out of 613 laws in the Torah, 00:06:42.61\00:06:45.18 what law could Jesus possibly choose as the most important? 00:06:45.21\00:06:48.83 These important words of Christ reveal the bedrock, 00:07:05.08\00:07:08.10 the cornerstone of His divine moral law 00:07:08.13\00:07:10.97 and all prophetic utterance, love. 00:07:11.00\00:07:15.17 If we dismiss God's law, de facto dismissing His love. 00:07:15.20\00:07:19.14 For Jesus said in verse 40. 00:07:19.17\00:07:21.11 Did you know that the Ten Commandments 00:07:25.25\00:07:26.62 were divided into two parts or divisions? 00:07:26.65\00:07:29.48 In these two parts are the two laws 00:07:29.51\00:07:31.39 that Jesus said were the greatest laws. 00:07:31.42\00:07:33.62 In the first four commandments of the Decalogue 00:07:33.65\00:07:35.43 referred to are vertical relationship with God Himself. 00:07:35.46\00:07:38.27 And these four laws rest on the first and great commandment, 00:07:38.30\00:07:41.67 that is to love God with all our hearts. 00:07:41.70\00:07:44.29 The last six commandments of the moral law 00:07:44.32\00:07:45.98 are horizontal or laws dealing 00:07:46.01\00:07:48.09 with our relationships with one another. 00:07:48.12\00:07:50.66 These commandments are rooted in the second commandment 00:07:50.69\00:07:53.16 that says, "We should love our neighbors as ourselves." 00:07:53.19\00:07:57.46 Jesus fully endorsed the law and he made it the bases 00:07:57.49\00:08:00.41 of our love relationship with divinity in John 15:10. 00:08:00.44\00:08:04.08 Jesus saw the moral law as a guide for all mankind. 00:08:11.50\00:08:14.77 For He said in Matthew 4:4. 00:08:14.80\00:08:16.63 It was this law that proceeded from His mouth on Mount Sinai. 00:08:23.88\00:08:26.96 And it was this law that guided Christ 00:08:26.99\00:08:28.86 while living as a man here on earth. 00:08:28.89\00:08:31.55 The doctrine of Jesus clearly establishes the moral law. 00:08:39.54\00:08:42.62 And He states that He obeyed it. 00:08:42.65\00:08:44.46 And Jesus clearly taught that if we want to remain 00:08:44.49\00:08:46.52 under the shadow of His love, 00:08:46.55\00:08:48.50 we must keep His commandments also. 00:08:48.53\00:08:51.06 It is this law that prepares us for successful living here 00:08:51.09\00:08:54.48 and for living in heaven at last. 00:08:54.51\00:08:56.88 Heaven and earth were still here, 00:08:56.91\00:08:58.30 fully functioning and so is his immutable law. 00:08:58.33\00:09:03.26 That's true, Stephen. 00:09:03.29\00:09:04.66 God's law is immutable. 00:09:04.69\00:09:07.03 Immutable means unchanging over time or unable to be changed. 00:09:07.06\00:09:11.89 There are some things that can't change. 00:09:11.92\00:09:14.60 For example, it's true that you can't live without blood. 00:09:14.63\00:09:19.39 This is an immutable fact. 00:09:19.42\00:09:21.97 Another parallel doctrine of Jesus was 00:09:22.00\00:09:24.01 that He and the Father are one. 00:09:24.04\00:09:27.79 Jesus told Philip that to see Him was to see the Father. 00:09:27.82\00:09:32.23 They are the same. 00:09:32.26\00:09:34.48 Did you know the same is true regarding God and His law? 00:09:34.51\00:09:38.48 God and His law are also insufferable. 00:09:38.51\00:09:41.69 If you want to know what God is like, 00:09:41.72\00:09:44.04 you need to know His law. 00:09:44.07\00:09:46.13 They are the same. 00:09:46.16\00:09:48.50 You see, to know the law is to know God. 00:09:48.53\00:09:52.39 It is the written version of His character. 00:09:52.42\00:09:56.25 Now that took a little cross-referencing. 00:09:56.28\00:09:58.92 But to make sure this point is crystal clear, 00:09:58.95\00:10:01.72 let's consider one of the teachings 00:10:01.75\00:10:03.23 of Jesus from Revelation 12:17. 00:10:03.26\00:10:06.58 This verse describes a people 00:10:06.61\00:10:08.13 from the new dispensation in conflict with Satan. 00:10:08.16\00:10:12.36 In this battle they are not wearing uniforms. 00:10:12.39\00:10:15.15 So let's look carefully at the distinguishing 00:10:15.18\00:10:17.42 mark of God's true followers. 00:10:17.45\00:10:20.63 If the moral law was done away with 00:10:33.37\00:10:35.34 because it cannot be kept then why would God's remnant people, 00:10:35.37\00:10:39.53 the one Satan hates and wars against in these last days, 00:10:39.56\00:10:43.51 be keeping the law? 00:10:43.54\00:10:46.33 God's law is indeed unchangeable and eternal. 00:10:46.36\00:10:51.99 It's true, Andrea. 00:10:52.02\00:10:53.44 God's moral law is still as eternal 00:10:53.47\00:10:56.37 and unchangeable as it was the day 00:10:56.40\00:10:58.86 He thundered those words from Mount Sinai. 00:10:58.89\00:11:02.28 So why is it that so many churches 00:11:02.31\00:11:05.16 and pastors preach and teach that the law was eliminated? 00:11:05.19\00:11:09.36 The answer to that question is simple. 00:11:09.39\00:11:11.98 They misinterpret Colossians 2:14. 00:11:12.01\00:11:15.34 But you don't need a degree to understand this verse. 00:11:15.37\00:11:18.94 If you allow the Bible to interpret itself, 00:11:18.97\00:11:22.10 careful study reveals that though the Jews 00:11:22.13\00:11:24.24 used one word "law," in their mind it had different meanings. 00:11:24.27\00:11:29.33 It could mean the moral law, the Ten Commandments, 00:11:29.36\00:11:32.63 or it could mean laws regarding our health. 00:11:32.66\00:11:35.88 There was also a division of law just for social issues. 00:11:35.91\00:11:39.92 And then there were the ceremonial laws 00:11:39.95\00:11:42.23 dealing with the temple and worship. 00:11:42.26\00:11:45.56 In many cases only context will tell you 00:11:45.59\00:11:48.96 which law is being referred to since they all use the word law. 00:11:48.99\00:11:54.41 Without understanding, let's take a look at this verse 00:11:54.44\00:11:57.43 that is so often employed to push 00:11:57.46\00:12:00.05 the moral law out of the Christian experience. 00:12:00.08\00:12:03.92 Colossians 2:14 says. 00:12:03.95\00:12:05.97 Now remember, a text without a context is a pretext. 00:12:15.94\00:12:20.95 The broader context of Jesus' life tells us 00:12:20.98\00:12:24.35 that He was very supportive of the moral law. 00:12:24.38\00:12:27.92 This larger context is not lost 00:12:27.95\00:12:30.51 or broken at all in the writings of Paul. 00:12:30.54\00:12:33.46 If you look again at the verse in Colossians, 00:12:33.49\00:12:36.05 you will find the Ten Commandments even mentioned. 00:12:36.08\00:12:39.36 The verse says. 00:12:39.39\00:12:40.76 If you compare scripture with scripture, 00:12:52.03\00:12:54.20 you'll discover that there was a law 00:12:54.23\00:12:56.27 mentioned in Deuteronomy 31: 24 and 26. 00:12:56.30\00:13:00.01 That contains the key elements 00:13:00.04\00:13:01.86 that are mentioned in Colossians 2:14. 00:13:01.89\00:13:05.25 These elements are, one, "handwriting" 00:13:05.28\00:13:08.45 and two, "against us." 00:13:08.48\00:13:11.32 Now let's look at Deuteronomy 31. 00:13:11.35\00:13:14.51 Notice this law was not written with the finger of God 00:13:22.29\00:13:25.47 on stone but was the handwriting of Moses in a book. 00:13:25.50\00:13:30.47 Then Moses told the Levites. 00:13:30.50\00:13:32.53 Notice this verse calls at law but this law was not put 00:13:42.15\00:13:46.42 inside the ark with the Ten Commandments 00:13:46.45\00:13:48.82 but in the side of or beside the ark. 00:13:48.85\00:13:52.41 And this law was a witness against the people. 00:13:52.44\00:13:56.51 The law that was nailed to the cross in Colossians 00:13:56.54\00:13:59.76 was the law contained in ordinances, 00:13:59.79\00:14:03.87 not the moral law which had been written with the finger of God. 00:14:03.90\00:14:08.84 So if the law Paul is talking about 00:14:08.87\00:14:11.06 was not the moral law but the ordinances, 00:14:11.09\00:14:14.59 what law was it that was nailed to the cross? 00:14:14.62\00:14:18.37 To discover that we need to look at the context 00:14:18.40\00:14:21.05 and let's start at Colossians 2:16, 00:14:21.08\00:14:24.44 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat," 00:14:24.47\00:14:27.40 which were offerings, "or in drink," 00:14:27.43\00:14:30.38 which were also offerings, "or in respect of an holyday," 00:14:30.41\00:14:34.72 or holydays, "or of the new moon," 00:14:34.75\00:14:37.18 these were Jewish festivals, 00:14:37.21\00:14:39.00 "or of the ceremonial Sabbath days," 00:14:39.03\00:14:41.36 like Passover, etc. 00:14:41.39\00:14:43.95 These items in verse 16, 00:14:43.98\00:14:46.51 "which are a shadow of things to come," 00:14:46.54\00:14:49.64 are all descriptions of the ceremonial law. 00:14:49.67\00:14:53.11 You see, the ceremonial laws 00:14:53.14\00:14:54.89 were a shadow of things to come, namely, Christ. 00:14:54.92\00:14:59.93 That's why it was nailed to the cross because 00:14:59.96\00:15:02.67 everything about the sanctuary service represented Christ. 00:15:02.70\00:15:06.95 He was the Lamb, the sacrifice that was nailed to the cross. 00:15:06.98\00:15:11.30 So the ceremonial laws were taken 00:15:11.33\00:15:13.72 out of the way but not the moral law. 00:15:13.75\00:15:18.71 That's right, Charles. 00:15:18.74\00:15:20.11 All this discussion about the law 00:15:20.14\00:15:21.51 being done away with and has, in fact, 00:15:21.54\00:15:23.24 hurt the cause of Christ, His church and our communities. 00:15:23.27\00:15:28.38 God intends for His church to be a standard 00:15:28.41\00:15:30.90 that defends against the lawlessness of the world. 00:15:30.93\00:15:34.48 And the dismissal of God's moral law is partly 00:15:34.51\00:15:37.42 responsible for our social state of lawlessness. 00:15:37.45\00:15:40.78 It is, in fact, a lie palmed off 00:15:40.81\00:15:43.60 on us by the enemy of our souls. 00:15:43.63\00:15:46.16 God gave us a law. 00:15:46.19\00:15:47.97 It is still in force and important for our lives today. 00:15:48.00\00:15:51.78 And God himself told us why His law 00:15:51.81\00:15:54.45 is important for us in Deuteronomy 6. 00:15:54.48\00:15:57.33 God didn't give us a law just to be arbitrary. 00:16:13.50\00:16:16.35 He gave us the law for our good and good is important. 00:16:16.38\00:16:21.92 The assumption that the law is important is a safe one 00:16:21.95\00:16:25.18 because God Himself spoke it and wrote it down. 00:16:25.21\00:16:29.25 And since He tells us it's for our good, 00:16:29.28\00:16:31.72 now let's take a few moments to know 00:16:31.75\00:16:33.78 some of the good things that result from embracing 00:16:33.81\00:16:36.67 the law with an obedient heart. 00:16:36.70\00:16:39.11 The first is predictability. 00:16:39.14\00:16:42.24 Each of us enjoys a certain amount of spontaneity 00:16:42.27\00:16:44.97 and that's just fine. 00:16:45.00\00:16:46.45 But suppose the law of gravity was intermittent 00:16:46.48\00:16:49.42 and sometimes you woke up in the morning 00:16:49.45\00:16:51.92 on the ceiling rather than in bed, 00:16:51.95\00:16:55.42 without gravity we might spin off into space. 00:16:55.45\00:16:58.43 But just knowing that gravity 00:16:58.46\00:17:00.15 will always keep our car on the road, 00:17:00.18\00:17:02.20 that our drink of water will always stay in its glass, 00:17:02.23\00:17:05.84 makes life predictable and safe. 00:17:05.87\00:17:09.21 In the same way, God is predictable. 00:17:09.24\00:17:11.26 God and His law both operate on love, 00:17:11.29\00:17:16.01 on the principle of giving what is needed most. 00:17:16.04\00:17:19.98 That's a constant. 00:17:20.01\00:17:21.95 "For I am the Lord, I change not." 00:17:21.98\00:17:25.90 That's why His compassion never fails 00:17:25.93\00:17:28.95 and that's why our relationship with Him is predictable. 00:17:28.98\00:17:33.12 The next good thing the law provides to those 00:17:33.15\00:17:35.24 who are true in heart is education. 00:17:35.27\00:17:38.41 According to the Apostle Paul, the law teaches us 00:17:38.44\00:17:41.66 where the line is between what is good and what is sin. 00:17:41.69\00:17:46.09 And notice Paul's quoting from number 10 00:17:46.12\00:17:48.72 of the Ten Commandments to make this point. 00:17:48.75\00:17:51.64 To the mind of this follower of Christ, 00:17:51.67\00:17:54.18 the moral law is still valid and in force. 00:17:54.21\00:17:58.60 Another thing the law provides 00:17:58.63\00:18:00.05 that most people never think about is happiness. 00:18:00.08\00:18:04.08 Sin always causes death and separation, 00:18:04.11\00:18:08.24 both of which do nothing towards promoting 00:18:08.27\00:18:10.69 our happiness and peace. 00:18:10.72\00:18:13.06 But obedience to the law makes for happiness. 00:18:13.09\00:18:16.73 The wise man said, "he that keepeth the law, happy is he." 00:18:16.76\00:18:21.74 And Jesus was absolutely clear that happiness comes from doing 00:18:21.77\00:18:26.50 what He told us to, obeying His law of love. 00:18:26.53\00:18:30.97 The fourth thing the law provides is freedom. 00:18:31.00\00:18:34.41 Only in obedience to God's law do we find true liberty. 00:18:34.44\00:18:38.78 Freedom is most clearly seen in the power that God gives us 00:18:38.81\00:18:42.55 to do the right thing under every circumstance. 00:18:42.58\00:18:46.81 The next thing the law provides is proof. 00:18:46.84\00:18:50.11 Obedience to God's law is the proof that we love Him. 00:18:50.14\00:18:54.47 Many are fluent in lip service but doing what God says 00:18:54.50\00:18:59.35 proves our loyalty and our love. 00:18:59.38\00:19:02.55 And one more thing the law brings to the table 00:19:02.58\00:19:04.64 by way of blessing, the law is a change agent. 00:19:04.67\00:19:09.23 There's a great principle that says, 00:19:09.26\00:19:11.32 "by beholding we become changed." 00:19:11.35\00:19:14.79 When we look to the study, 00:19:14.82\00:19:16.50 predictable principles of the law of God asking 00:19:16.53\00:19:19.59 His will to be our will, we become like Him. 00:19:19.62\00:19:23.98 And so that's only six things 00:19:24.01\00:19:26.01 that the law brings to the table. 00:19:26.04\00:19:27.59 The six wonderful things we obtain 00:19:27.62\00:19:30.55 only through obedience to God's moral law. 00:19:30.58\00:19:34.48 And speaking of obedience to the lawly life, 00:19:34.51\00:19:37.01 there is one law that Jesus spoke of 00:19:37.04\00:19:38.70 that truly has relevance for every culture. 00:19:38.73\00:19:41.73 I think God actually placed it as part of our DNA. 00:19:41.76\00:19:44.87 That law is the golden rule found in Matthew 7:12. 00:19:44.90\00:19:49.10 The golden rule says, 00:19:49.13\00:19:50.70 "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." 00:19:50.73\00:19:53.71 But did you know that Jesus taught 00:19:53.74\00:19:55.12 that the "do" is defined by His law. 00:19:55.15\00:19:58.03 Check it out. 00:19:58.06\00:19:59.43 You don't want people lie to you don't lie to them. 00:20:07.57\00:20:10.29 That's the ninth commandment. 00:20:10.32\00:20:11.83 You don't want people to steal your things then don't steal. 00:20:11.86\00:20:14.76 That's the eighth commandment. 00:20:14.79\00:20:16.51 You don't want your spouse cheating 00:20:16.54\00:20:17.91 on you then don't commit adultery. 00:20:17.94\00:20:19.84 That's the seventh commandment. 00:20:19.87\00:20:21.45 You see, obedience to the law makes life safe, 00:20:21.48\00:20:24.77 predictable, and happy. 00:20:24.80\00:20:27.11 God's great principles are not merely 00:20:27.14\00:20:29.00 embodied in the Ten Commandments. 00:20:29.03\00:20:30.99 They are ultimately exemplified in the life of Christ. 00:20:31.02\00:20:34.75 It is His life of obedience to the law that becomes a mirror, 00:20:34.78\00:20:37.73 but how a mirror revealing the truth about our lives. 00:20:37.76\00:20:42.05 We don't just ask the question, what would Jesus do? 00:20:42.08\00:20:45.36 We ask the question, what did Jesus do? 00:20:45.39\00:20:48.42 What did He teach? What does He ask of us? 00:20:48.45\00:20:52.77 And one more thing about the "do" in the moral law 00:20:52.80\00:20:55.35 and the golden rule, it really is important to Jesus. 00:20:55.38\00:20:58.77 In fact, Jesus said, 00:20:58.80\00:21:00.35 "it determines where we spend eternity." 00:21:00.38\00:21:02.83 Now don't misunderstand what Jesus is saying here. 00:21:11.73\00:21:14.52 He's not saying that if you obey good enough 00:21:14.55\00:21:16.31 you have the right to heaven. 00:21:16.34\00:21:17.87 You and I have already sinned and the wages to sin is death. 00:21:17.90\00:21:20.79 And no amount of obedience will cancel that death. 00:21:20.82\00:21:23.71 We need Jesus' perfect obedience to the law 00:21:23.74\00:21:26.34 and His death on the cross to atone for our sins. 00:21:26.37\00:21:29.69 But now that He's paid the price, 00:21:29.72\00:21:32.01 Jesus wants us to live perfect lives. 00:21:32.04\00:21:35.03 New Testament doctrine clearly indicates 00:21:35.06\00:21:37.04 that the intention now is that the law will be fulfilled in us. 00:21:37.07\00:21:41.81 In fact, the new covenant is not 00:21:41.84\00:21:44.21 that the law's done away with, but that His moral law 00:21:44.24\00:21:47.83 will be written on our hearts. 00:21:47.86\00:21:51.07 You're right, Stephen. 00:21:51.10\00:21:52.47 We are not saved because we keep the law 00:21:52.50\00:21:54.92 but we can't be saved without keeping it. 00:21:54.95\00:21:57.72 On this Jesus is clear. 00:21:57.75\00:22:00.08 Again from Matthew 7:21. 00:22:00.11\00:22:02.66 The words "not" and "but" highlight the strong contrast 00:22:12.86\00:22:16.63 between the mere talker and the actual doer of God's will. 00:22:16.66\00:22:20.73 Mere profession is worthless. 00:22:20.76\00:22:23.08 He who pretends to know God and yet disobeys 00:22:23.11\00:22:25.95 His commandments is a liar. 00:22:25.98\00:22:28.84 For the New Testament believer the teaching of Jesus is clear 00:22:28.87\00:22:32.82 and that was the same teaching learned 00:22:32.85\00:22:34.82 and taught by Jesus' disciples. 00:22:34.85\00:22:37.50 And how did Jesus walk? 00:23:03.20\00:23:05.05 Here is how He walked in His own words. 00:23:05.08\00:23:08.29 John 15:10. 00:23:08.32\00:23:09.85 Based on that example, He says to each of us. 00:23:15.01\00:23:17.99 There's no lasting and eternal joy 00:23:30.62\00:23:33.51 outside total and complete obedience to God. 00:23:33.54\00:23:36.96 Not here nor in paradise. 00:23:36.99\00:23:39.87 Heaven wouldn't be heaven if the law was not embraced. 00:23:39.90\00:23:43.51 It wouldn't be safe. 00:23:43.54\00:23:45.25 That was why Satan could no longer stay there. 00:23:45.28\00:23:48.07 His lies were changing the atmosphere from one of peace 00:23:48.10\00:23:51.15 and joy to anxiety and confusion. 00:23:51.18\00:23:55.09 Interesting options. 00:23:55.12\00:23:57.01 Peace and joy or anxiety and confusion. 00:23:57.04\00:24:00.83 Seems like a simple choice. 00:24:00.86\00:24:02.98 And it is simple but because of the evilness 00:24:03.01\00:24:05.93 of our hearts it's not always easy. 00:24:05.96\00:24:08.75 That is, it's not easy unless you love God. 00:24:08.78\00:24:13.23 It's not easy unless you are experiencing 00:24:13.26\00:24:16.10 the gift of repentance. 00:24:16.13\00:24:18.70 So let's review. 00:24:18.73\00:24:20.54 First we learned that God is love. 00:24:20.57\00:24:25.26 And based on that solid foundational principle, 00:24:25.29\00:24:28.85 Jesus taught all law and all prophecy 00:24:28.88\00:24:31.72 is built on, is founded on love. 00:24:31.75\00:24:36.11 We also learned that God as well as his moral law are eternal. 00:24:36.14\00:24:41.93 Those laws He spoke to all 00:24:41.96\00:24:43.83 His chosen people at the foot of Mount Sinai. 00:24:43.86\00:24:47.75 And the teachings of Jesus are absolutely clear 00:24:47.78\00:24:51.17 that God's moral law cannot be changed. 00:24:51.20\00:24:55.47 And it is also the doctrine of Jesus 00:24:55.50\00:24:57.60 that if we would accept His offer to be His chosen people, 00:24:57.63\00:25:02.59 then that law is still binding on us as well. 00:25:02.62\00:25:06.92 That is, if we wish to abide in His love. 00:25:06.95\00:25:11.77 Some 3,500 years ago love thundered a law 00:25:11.80\00:25:14.98 from Mount Sinai that was designed by God to protect us, 00:25:15.01\00:25:19.28 to guide us, to make us safe and happy. 00:25:19.31\00:25:23.74 Every problem, every experience by man 00:25:23.77\00:25:26.38 is a direct result of someone breaking that law. 00:25:26.41\00:25:30.65 If Jesus is Lord that is our duty to accept 00:25:30.68\00:25:34.08 His life changing grace and so be obedient to His law of love. 00:25:34.11\00:25:40.23 This law cannot be changed. 00:25:40.26\00:25:42.41 And there's biblical proof that this law cannot be changed. 00:25:42.44\00:25:47.10 Come with me to another mountain where love thundered. 00:25:47.13\00:25:50.24 Not in Egypt or Saudi Arabia. 00:25:50.27\00:25:53.12 This is Mount Calvary, right here in Israel. 00:25:53.15\00:25:57.17 On this Mount our God 00:25:57.20\00:25:59.00 and Savior said, "I love you this much." 00:25:59.03\00:26:03.28 It was not the nail that held him there. 00:26:03.31\00:26:06.37 It was love and that love prayed for you. 00:26:06.40\00:26:10.77 He prayed for you. 00:26:17.82\00:26:19.88 If you would embraced that love, 00:26:19.91\00:26:21.83 that love that would leave the glory of heaven to die 00:26:21.86\00:26:25.14 in your behalf then embrace the teachings of Jesus. 00:26:25.17\00:26:29.90 "If you love me," Jesus said, "keep my commandments." 00:26:29.93\00:26:35.61 And His commandments are not burdensome. 00:26:35.64\00:26:38.31 There are lots of people who say, 00:26:38.34\00:26:40.08 "I love Jesus" but there is only 00:26:40.11\00:26:43.38 one way to know if you love Jesus. 00:26:43.41\00:26:47.18 1 John 5:2 says. 00:26:47.21\00:26:49.50 Jesus' teachings are clear. 00:27:03.62\00:27:06.08 If you want to enter into eternal life 00:27:06.11\00:27:08.35 you must keep the commandments. 00:27:08.38\00:27:10.76 If you find that you've been disobedient to His love 00:27:10.79\00:27:14.19 then ask Him for a new heart, a repentant heart. 00:27:14.22\00:27:18.35 And then say yes to Him with all your known choices. 00:27:18.38\00:27:24.23 Jesus taught that if we are not actively gathering souls 00:28:07.67\00:28:10.79 into the kingdom of heaven then we are actively scattering. 00:28:10.82\00:28:15.29 I'd like you to join us in causing some positive thunder 00:28:15.32\00:28:18.25 by deliberately giving Bible studies, 00:28:18.28\00:28:20.64 by sharing the teachings of our friend and Savior Jesus. 00:28:20.67\00:28:24.36 Learn more at QLP.TV. 00:28:24.39\00:28:27.57
