There are some things. 00:00:01.40\00:00:02.77 Okay, there are many things that I don't understand, 00:00:02.80\00:00:06.11 but they put me in all. 00:00:06.14\00:00:08.13 Take this phone for example. 00:00:08.16\00:00:09.54 I've been told there is more computing power in this phone 00:00:09.57\00:00:13.06 than there was in the Apollo Lunar Modules 00:00:13.09\00:00:16.55 or take sound for example. 00:00:16.58\00:00:18.98 The trumpet has a certain sound produced by the metal 00:00:19.01\00:00:22.17 and its unique shape. 00:00:22.20\00:00:26.07 A dog on the other hand is made of different material, 00:00:26.10\00:00:28.88 flesh and his voice box is shaped 00:00:28.91\00:00:31.02 different than the trumpet, so it sounds different. 00:00:31.05\00:00:37.25 And then there is the violin with four strings, 00:00:37.28\00:00:40.70 a wooden shoe and a horse hair bow. 00:00:40.73\00:00:43.10 It has a unique sound unlike the trumpet or the dog. 00:00:43.13\00:00:46.85 But here's what I don't understand. 00:00:50.15\00:00:52.05 Take the speaker with a cone of paper, 00:00:52.08\00:00:54.73 put sound through it and this one shape can reproduce 00:00:54.76\00:00:58.06 the sound of a trumpet, 00:00:58.09\00:01:01.28 a dog or a violin. 00:01:01.31\00:01:06.73 And then it can sound like all of them at the same time. 00:01:06.76\00:01:13.71 But this is made of just one material 00:01:13.74\00:01:16.01 and only has one shape. 00:01:16.04\00:01:18.40 How does it do that? 00:01:18.43\00:01:21.88 In the same way there are things 00:01:21.91\00:01:23.83 that are hard to understand in the spiritual round, 00:01:23.86\00:01:26.56 especially if you're human. 00:01:26.59\00:01:29.34 One of those things was a teaching of Jesus 00:01:29.37\00:01:31.60 found in John 10:30. 00:01:31.63\00:01:34.50 "I and my Father are one." 00:01:34.53\00:01:38.93 That caused some serious thunder in the holy land 00:01:38.96\00:01:42.53 because this teaching of Jesus up ended a core understanding 00:01:42.56\00:01:46.12 that made the Jews 00:01:46.15\00:01:47.52 unique throughout the entire world or did it. 00:01:47.55\00:01:51.95 Yep, there are things I just don't understand. 00:02:44.40\00:02:47.74 I don't understand how the human eye can see. 00:02:47.77\00:02:50.53 I don't understand how the human ear can hear. 00:02:50.56\00:02:53.53 And I don't understand how the phone, radio or T.V. 00:02:53.56\00:02:56.52 can receive signals through the air. 00:02:56.55\00:02:58.78 But that doesn't stop me from experiencing these things. 00:02:58.81\00:03:03.29 The same is true in regard to deity. 00:03:03.32\00:03:05.90 I don't understand God either, 00:03:05.93\00:03:08.22 but that doesn't stop me from experiencing Him. 00:03:08.25\00:03:11.76 And when I say Him is that one Him, or two Him, or three Him. 00:03:11.79\00:03:17.51 While the world all around them was worshiping 00:03:17.54\00:03:20.49 a whole pantheon of Gods. 00:03:20.52\00:03:22.78 The Jews as a nation taught that there was only one. 00:03:22.81\00:03:27.11 So you can imagine how Jesus stirred things up by saying 00:03:27.14\00:03:31.21 "I and my Father are one." 00:03:31.24\00:03:35.16 He sure did, Charles. 00:03:35.19\00:03:36.72 Today I'm standing at top of the very steps 00:03:36.75\00:03:39.10 that Jesus and the Jews have climbed 00:03:39.13\00:03:41.11 to enter the Eastern Huldah Gate 00:03:41.14\00:03:43.05 to go the temple mount and worship God. 00:03:43.08\00:03:45.86 This study concerns that God had 00:03:45.89\00:03:47.80 and Jesus is teaching on the subject. 00:03:47.83\00:03:49.82 So today let's start with the known fact. 00:03:49.85\00:03:52.72 Jesus who claimed to be the Son of God 00:03:52.75\00:03:55.32 was rejected by the Jews, but why? 00:03:55.35\00:03:58.33 After healing the sick, raising the dead, being morally good, 00:03:58.36\00:04:02.76 why would they want to kill Jesus? 00:04:02.80\00:04:04.76 They had stated a reason and I'll share that in a moment, 00:04:04.79\00:04:07.25 but first I want to share the real reason. 00:04:07.28\00:04:09.88 When the Jewish leaders brought Jesus to Pilot, 00:04:09.91\00:04:12.30 he knew that for envy 00:04:12.33\00:04:13.95 they had delivered Jesus to him to be crucified. 00:04:13.98\00:04:17.23 Not for morally wrong, not for some great evil, 00:04:17.26\00:04:20.74 they were simply jealous. 00:04:20.77\00:04:22.60 Keep that in mind as we consider the reason 00:04:22.63\00:04:24.84 they gave to Pilot. 00:04:24.87\00:04:26.45 "The Jews answered, we have a law, and by our law 00:04:26.48\00:04:30.24 He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God." 00:04:30.27\00:04:34.40 And what law were the Jews talking about? 00:04:34.43\00:04:37.07 Most likely the one in Deuteronomy 6. 00:04:37.10\00:04:39.53 There we have the most famous Jewish prayer, The Shema. 00:04:39.56\00:04:44.08 Observant Jews consider the Shema to be 00:04:44.11\00:04:46.04 the most important part of the prayer service in Judaism. 00:04:46.07\00:04:49.21 By religious commandment that is by tradition, 00:04:49.24\00:04:52.04 the Shema should be recited twice a day. 00:04:52.07\00:04:54.64 It is traditional for the Jews to say the Shema 00:04:54.67\00:04:56.79 as their last verse before death 00:04:56.82\00:04:58.69 and for parents to teach their children to say it 00:04:58.72\00:05:01.32 before they go to sleep at night. 00:05:01.35\00:05:03.28 The Shema starts with these words. 00:05:03.31\00:05:05.35 "Hear, Israel, the Lord is our God, The Lord is one." 00:05:05.38\00:05:10.56 This teaching made the Jews people 00:05:10.59\00:05:12.21 distinct from every other polytheistic religion. 00:05:12.24\00:05:15.25 For the God of Israel was one. 00:05:15.28\00:05:18.25 Unfortunately they took these words absolutely literal. 00:05:18.28\00:05:21.75 This was repeated fall of theirs. 00:05:21.78\00:05:23.90 Jesus told him, "you must be born again." 00:05:23.93\00:05:26.87 Nicodemus asked, how could a man 00:05:26.90\00:05:29.23 going to his mother and be born again? 00:05:29.26\00:05:31.31 Nicodemus tried to take these teachings completely literal, 00:05:31.34\00:05:34.59 but this teaching was not physical, it was spiritual. 00:05:34.62\00:05:38.03 And spiritual things must be spiritually discerned. 00:05:38.06\00:05:42.80 The same is true of this passage in John 10:30. 00:05:42.83\00:05:46.26 Let's take a moment to really look at this teaching, 00:05:46.29\00:05:48.92 this doctrine of Jesus that so disturbed the Jews leaders. 00:05:48.95\00:05:53.39 "I and my Father are one." 00:05:53.42\00:05:57.67 This angered the Jews, but this anger was born 00:05:57.70\00:06:00.84 of an over literal reading of the Shema. 00:06:00.87\00:06:03.99 What Jesus is doing here is putting 00:06:04.02\00:06:06.24 a new and clear meaning on the word one. 00:06:06.27\00:06:10.18 And for years they had been saying 00:06:10.21\00:06:12.07 the Shema thinking one God meant one being, 00:06:12.10\00:06:15.99 but what if the word God is a family name. 00:06:16.02\00:06:19.50 You could have one family 00:06:19.53\00:06:20.90 and that would mean more than one person. 00:06:20.93\00:06:24.11 In John 1:18 Jesus used this earthly terms 00:06:24.14\00:06:28.28 to try to explain something beyond our understanding, 00:06:28.31\00:06:32.02 but not beyond our ability to experience. 00:06:32.05\00:06:35.98 He talks about God as a father in intimate terms. 00:06:36.01\00:06:39.65 "No man hath seen God at any time, 00:06:39.68\00:06:43.34 the only begotten Son, 00:06:43.37\00:06:44.91 which is in the bosom of the Father, 00:06:44.94\00:06:46.63 he hath declared him." 00:06:46.66\00:06:49.22 And Jesus claimed to have seen the Father, 00:06:49.25\00:06:51.98 to have been embraced in the bosom of the Father. 00:06:52.01\00:06:54.71 And Jesus being here with us 00:06:54.74\00:06:57.26 was a declaration of the Father Himself. 00:06:57.29\00:07:00.28 This oneness was very singular and Jesus taught His followers 00:07:00.31\00:07:04.30 that He and the Father were virtually the same thing. 00:07:04.33\00:07:08.51 Look at this in John 14:9. 00:07:08.54\00:07:10.76 "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father." 00:07:10.79\00:07:13.79 I know the Jewish people don't accept the teachings of Jesus, 00:07:13.82\00:07:17.02 but what He was teaching 00:07:17.05\00:07:18.42 wasn't merely a New Testament doctrine. 00:07:18.45\00:07:21.20 In fact if you study the Old Testament 00:07:21.23\00:07:23.69 with your Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, 00:07:23.72\00:07:26.53 you'll discover this teaching of Jesus is clearly taught 00:07:26.56\00:07:29.87 in the original language of the Old Testament. 00:07:29.90\00:07:32.12 And there is no excuse for the Jewish leaders 00:07:32.15\00:07:34.91 not to have known this, 00:07:34.94\00:07:36.57 neither is there an excuse for Christians not to know this. 00:07:36.60\00:07:40.34 You can have more than one being and still have one God. 00:07:40.37\00:07:45.85 Following is some Biblical evidence 00:07:45.88\00:07:48.25 that affirms this radical teaching of one. 00:07:48.28\00:07:52.24 And there are three primary names for God in Old Testament. 00:07:52.27\00:07:55.69 One, El, two, Elohiym and three, Yehovah. 00:07:55.72\00:08:01.22 Some who claimed the name of Christian suggested 00:08:01.25\00:08:04.23 these three names are three separate beings, 00:08:04.26\00:08:08.65 but only one represents the creator God of the universe 00:08:08.68\00:08:12.12 and that is Yehovah or Jehovah or some pronounce it Yehowah. 00:08:12.15\00:08:16.97 But this is not at all the case, 00:08:17.00\00:08:19.56 they are just different names for the same God. 00:08:19.59\00:08:22.86 In fact there are 19 verses where all three come together 00:08:22.89\00:08:27.56 and here are just two of them. 00:08:27.59\00:08:29.29 Second Samuel 22:32 says, "For who is El save the Yehovah 00:08:29.32\00:08:35.88 and who is a rock, save our Elohiym. 00:08:35.91\00:08:39.78 And Nehemiah 1:5 says, "I beseech thee, 00:08:39.81\00:08:42.75 O Yehovah Elohiym of heaven, the great and terrible El, 00:08:42.78\00:08:47.24 that keepeth covenant and mercy 00:08:47.27\00:08:49.88 for them that love him and observe his commandments." 00:08:49.91\00:08:54.05 We're not talking about greater Gods and lesser Gods here. 00:08:54.08\00:08:58.06 No, here El, Elohiym and Yehovah are all interchangeable 00:08:58.09\00:09:03.69 as were referring to the same one and only God. 00:09:03.72\00:09:07.89 In other words the names are all equal, 00:09:07.92\00:09:10.31 the same and referring to the same God. 00:09:10.34\00:09:14.74 You're right, Levi. 00:09:14.77\00:09:16.48 El, Elohiym and Yehovah are names 00:09:16.51\00:09:19.92 for the almighty God of the Old Testament. 00:09:19.95\00:09:22.40 Now Jesus said that He and His Father were one. 00:09:22.43\00:09:26.41 When we allow scripture to interpret itself, 00:09:26.44\00:09:29.24 an amazing discovery unfolds, backed up by fulfilled prophecy. 00:09:29.27\00:09:34.74 These three Hebrew names referred to Jesus as well. 00:09:34.77\00:09:38.23 Check it out. 00:09:38.26\00:09:39.63 In Exodus 3:14 we find the story of the Elohiym God 00:09:39.66\00:09:43.39 talking to Moses at the burning bush. 00:09:43.42\00:09:45.82 On my recent trip through the deserts of Egypt and Israel 00:09:45.85\00:09:48.94 and I saw some of those bushes. 00:09:48.97\00:09:52.01 Moses told God or Elohiym that if he went back to Egypt 00:09:52.04\00:09:55.48 and told the people that he had been sent 00:09:55.51\00:09:57.48 by the God of their fathers to free them. 00:09:57.51\00:10:00.08 They would ask what is His name. 00:10:00.11\00:10:03.13 So he asked God, what should I tell them. 00:10:03.16\00:10:06.39 And God said unto Moses, "I am that I am. 00:10:06.42\00:10:11.46 And He said, thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel. 00:10:11.49\00:10:15.52 I am hath sent me unto you." 00:10:15.55\00:10:19.13 Let me pause for just one moment 00:10:19.16\00:10:21.52 and take you back to Genesis 1:1 to point out 00:10:21.55\00:10:25.30 that the God who is from the beginning, 00:10:25.33\00:10:27.12 the God who created the heaven and the earth is also Elohiym. 00:10:27.15\00:10:32.93 The God of creation 00:10:32.96\00:10:34.33 and the God of the burning bush are the same God. 00:10:34.36\00:10:37.67 And this is the God of the Exodus. 00:10:37.70\00:10:40.96 So you can imagine what thunder was causing in the holy land 00:10:40.99\00:10:43.99 by Jesus words in John 8:58. 00:10:44.02\00:10:46.14 "Jesus said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, 00:10:46.17\00:10:50.62 Before Abraham was, I am." 00:10:50.65\00:10:55.11 What Jesus was claiming here is that He is Elohiym 00:10:55.14\00:10:58.97 and that claim was not lost on the people that hurt Him. 00:10:59.00\00:11:01.82 To them those words were blasphemous 00:11:01.85\00:11:04.35 and they took up stones to stone Jesus. 00:11:04.38\00:11:07.99 But I believe they were too hasty. 00:11:08.02\00:11:10.43 You see, Jesus claimed to be Elohiym, 00:11:10.46\00:11:13.44 the God of creation and the Exodus was backed up 00:11:13.47\00:11:17.00 and proven for all time by the fulfillment 00:11:17.03\00:11:20.29 of an amazing prophecy. 00:11:20.32\00:11:23.07 That's why I'm a Christian, Andrea, 00:11:23.10\00:11:25.70 because Jesus wasn't just an egotist with grandiose claims. 00:11:25.73\00:11:30.01 His assertions were confirmed by fulfilled prophecy. 00:11:30.04\00:11:34.52 Another term for God in the Old Testament was Holy One. 00:11:34.55\00:11:39.37 When we compare scripture with scripture, 00:11:39.40\00:11:41.63 we discover the term holy one is equal 00:11:41.66\00:11:44.22 to the other three names of God, 00:11:44.25\00:11:46.41 El in Psalms 78:41, Elohiym in Psalm 71:22, 00:11:46.44\00:11:51.43 and Yehovah in Isaiah 47:4. 00:11:51.46\00:11:54.66 Prophecy declares Jesus to be that Holy One 00:11:54.69\00:11:58.86 through the most compelling evidence. 00:11:58.89\00:12:01.42 In Psalms 16:10 we find a messianic psalm 00:12:01.45\00:12:05.59 that is a psalm referring to the Messiah who was to come. 00:12:05.62\00:12:09.03 Let's read it together. 00:12:09.06\00:12:11.11 "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, 00:12:11.14\00:12:13.99 neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." 00:12:14.02\00:12:17.74 I first studied this out in 1976 as a senior in academy, 00:12:17.77\00:12:22.64 but I didn't realize until later 00:12:22.67\00:12:24.50 how significant this passage was. 00:12:24.53\00:12:27.26 When I studied this out what I wanted to know was, 00:12:27.29\00:12:30.38 who is thou, who is my, 00:12:30.41\00:12:33.49 what is hell, and who is this Holy One. 00:12:33.52\00:12:37.64 Fortunately for us Peter uses this passage 00:12:37.67\00:12:40.83 from Psalm 2 as his key note address 00:12:40.86\00:12:43.58 on the day of Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2. 00:12:43.61\00:12:46.36 And thanks to his prophetic insight 00:12:46.39\00:12:48.85 we can fill in the blanks 00:12:48.88\00:12:51.16 with scripture interpreting scripture. 00:12:51.19\00:12:53.88 We now know that thou is God the Father, 00:12:53.91\00:12:57.61 My is Jesus, and hell is simply the grave. 00:12:57.64\00:13:03.51 We know this because Peter laid this prophetic text 00:13:03.54\00:13:06.67 over the recent history of Jesus in verse 31, 00:13:06.70\00:13:10.48 "He, David seeing this 00:13:10.51\00:13:13.51 before spake of the resurrection of Christ, 00:13:13.54\00:13:16.33 that his soul was not left in the grave, 00:13:16.36\00:13:18.75 neither did his flesh see corruption." 00:13:18.78\00:13:22.88 Jesus didn't stay in the grave like everyone else does. 00:13:22.91\00:13:25.60 He didn't rot away eaten by worms, oh, no. 00:13:25.63\00:13:29.25 He rose from the dead. 00:13:29.28\00:13:31.61 "This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses." 00:13:31.64\00:13:37.89 This is not just an exciting prophecy, there is more here. 00:13:37.92\00:13:41.88 You see, this Holy One was none other than Jesus Christ 00:13:41.91\00:13:46.07 and we've already learned that the term Holy One 00:13:46.10\00:13:48.72 is just another name for Elohiym, 00:13:48.75\00:13:51.29 the creator God, the God of the Exodus. 00:13:51.32\00:13:54.51 But the Holy One, the one who rose from the dead 00:13:54.54\00:13:57.88 is also the El God and this name is also embraced by Jesus. 00:13:57.91\00:14:03.82 Steven is standing by in Bethlehem to explain. 00:14:03.85\00:14:07.55 Thanks, Charles. 00:14:07.58\00:14:09.24 This will only take a moment, 00:14:09.27\00:14:10.64 because scripture is absolutely clear on this. 00:14:10.67\00:14:13.21 Let's look at another messianic prophecy from Isaiah 7:14. 00:14:13.24\00:14:16.66 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign, 00:14:16.69\00:14:21.27 Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, 00:14:21.30\00:14:25.13 and shall call his name Immanuel." 00:14:25.16\00:14:28.32 For anyone who has taken the name of Christ, 00:14:28.35\00:14:30.74 Christian, this passage 00:14:30.77\00:14:32.61 is understood to be fulfilled in Jesus. 00:14:32.64\00:14:35.92 Let's compare Isaiah 7 with Matthew 1. 00:14:35.95\00:14:38.69 Listen to these words of an angel from heaven. 00:14:38.72\00:14:41.54 "The angel of the Lord appeared unto Joseph in a dream, 00:14:41.57\00:14:45.38 saying, "Joseph, this pregnancy was done," 00:14:45.41\00:14:49.06 that it might be fulfilled 00:14:49.09\00:14:50.48 which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, 00:14:50.51\00:14:52.84 saying, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child," 00:14:52.87\00:14:57.15 and shall bring forth a son, 00:14:57.18\00:14:58.81 and they shall call his name Emmanu'el, 00:14:58.84\00:15:02.60 which being interpreted is, with us is El or God with us." 00:15:02.63\00:15:08.68 That little boy born in a grotto stable 00:15:08.71\00:15:10.92 right here in Bethlehem was not just an ordinary child, 00:15:10.95\00:15:14.23 He was El, He was God with us. 00:15:14.26\00:15:17.96 Jesus is Elohiym and Jesus is El and while we read it, 00:15:17.99\00:15:22.50 Jesus is also Yehovah. Isaiah 54:5 tells us. 00:15:22.53\00:15:26.57 "For thy Maker is thine husband, 00:15:26.60\00:15:29.19 the Yehovah of hosts is his name, 00:15:29.22\00:15:31.07 and thy redeemer the Holy One of Israel, 00:15:31.10\00:15:33.76 The Elohiym of the whole earth shall he be called." 00:15:33.79\00:15:37.07 Notice that the maker is the God of Genesis 1:1, 00:15:37.10\00:15:40.49 He is also Yehovah. 00:15:40.52\00:15:42.19 This was also the conclusion of the New Testament 00:15:42.22\00:15:44.75 Pharisee Paul in Colossians 1:16. 00:15:44.78\00:15:48.33 "For by him that is Jesus were all the things created, 00:15:48.36\00:15:52.20 that are in heaven, and that are on earth, 00:15:52.23\00:15:54.49 visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, 00:15:54.52\00:15:57.44 or dominions, or principalities, or powers, 00:15:57.47\00:16:00.11 all things were created by him." 00:16:00.14\00:16:03.69 Contemporaries of Jesus who compared His life 00:16:03.72\00:16:06.39 with the prophecies of the Old Testament 00:16:06.42\00:16:08.21 also came to the conclusion that this man 00:16:08.24\00:16:11.47 was the creator as was testified in John 1:3." 00:16:11.50\00:16:14.66 All things were made by him, 00:16:14.69\00:16:17.47 and without him was not any thing made that was made." 00:16:17.50\00:16:21.49 There are other texts that say the Father created all things, 00:16:21.52\00:16:25.74 but then we find this amazing messianic prophecy 00:16:25.77\00:16:29.15 in Isaiah 9:6 that says, "Jesus is the father." 00:16:29.18\00:16:33.22 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, 00:16:33.25\00:16:38.26 and the government shall be upon his shoulder, 00:16:38.29\00:16:40.91 and his name shall be called Wonderful, 00:16:40.94\00:16:43.18 Counselor, The mighty Elohiym, 00:16:43.21\00:16:45.81 The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." 00:16:45.84\00:16:50.61 The Bible is clearly bearing out the truth of Jesus' words. 00:16:50.64\00:16:54.49 "I and my father are one." 00:16:54.52\00:16:58.96 That's exciting, Steven. 00:16:58.99\00:17:00.75 And this plurality of the Godhead 00:17:00.78\00:17:03.50 is not just something we find comparing 00:17:03.53\00:17:05.66 scripture with scripture as you've just so aptly done. 00:17:05.69\00:17:08.58 Did you know, the Bible uses 00:17:08.61\00:17:10.73 plural nouns in talking about God. 00:17:10.76\00:17:13.32 "Let us make man in our image. 00:17:13.35\00:17:17.14 Behold the man has become like one of us. 00:17:17.17\00:17:20.77 Come let us go down." 00:17:20.80\00:17:24.17 But if God is one, how can He be plural. 00:17:24.20\00:17:27.18 And Paul explains in Romans 1:20. 00:17:27.21\00:17:29.98 "For the invisible things of him 00:17:30.01\00:17:32.35 from the creation of the world are clearly seen, 00:17:32.38\00:17:35.61 being understood by the things that are made, 00:17:35.64\00:17:38.92 even his eternal power and Godhead, 00:17:38.95\00:17:41.92 so that they are without excuse." 00:17:41.95\00:17:44.39 Paul tells us, that we can clearly see 00:17:44.42\00:17:47.34 and even understand deity or the divine nature of God 00:17:47.37\00:17:51.16 or as the King James says, 00:17:51.19\00:17:52.81 The Godhead by the things that He's created. 00:17:52.84\00:17:56.25 Everything in nature tells us something about God 00:17:56.28\00:17:59.92 and as such it also tells us something about Jesus, 00:17:59.95\00:18:03.44 for He is Emmanu'el, God with us. 00:18:03.47\00:18:07.22 And Jesus is not a lesser God, 00:18:07.25\00:18:09.77 He is fully God. 00:18:09.80\00:18:11.47 And Paul told the believers in Colossians, 00:18:11.50\00:18:13.57 "For in him that is Christ dwelleth 00:18:13.60\00:18:17.42 all the fullness of the Godhead bodily." 00:18:17.45\00:18:20.63 In other words, if you've seen one you've seen the other. 00:18:20.66\00:18:24.62 Some folk said, I don't understand 00:18:24.65\00:18:27.20 how you can have one God and three beings 00:18:27.23\00:18:30.20 as part of the Godhead. 00:18:30.23\00:18:31.75 I don't understand it well either, 00:18:31.78\00:18:33.67 but remember the invisible can be clearly seen 00:18:33.70\00:18:38.04 by what he's created, 00:18:38.07\00:18:39.44 so let me take a run at this 00:18:39.47\00:18:41.17 with something from nature that God created. 00:18:41.20\00:18:45.42 This is ice, we make it to keep things cool. 00:18:45.45\00:18:51.25 Nature also makes a lot of ice. 00:18:51.28\00:18:54.80 Ice is a solid. This is water. 00:18:54.83\00:19:02.80 We use it to drink, to bath, to work, to clean and to play. 00:19:02.83\00:19:06.87 There is approximately 00:19:06.90\00:19:08.27 326 million trillion gallons of water on this planet 00:19:08.30\00:19:12.76 and 98% of the water on the planet is in the oceans. 00:19:12.79\00:19:16.40 Water is a liquid. Then there is steam. 00:19:16.43\00:19:24.09 When water gets hot enough, it turns into steam. 00:19:24.12\00:19:27.84 Steam is a gas. Now follow this. 00:19:27.87\00:19:32.05 A gas is neither a solid nor liquid. 00:19:32.08\00:19:35.31 A liquid is neither a gas nor a solid. 00:19:35.34\00:19:38.61 So all three items are completely different 00:19:38.64\00:19:42.21 and yet each of these items is fully and completely H2O. 00:19:42.24\00:19:46.94 H2O is one thing. 00:19:46.97\00:19:50.16 God is one thing, but a solid is not a liquid. 00:19:50.19\00:19:54.08 God the Father is not Jesus. 00:19:54.11\00:19:57.09 The Shema is true. Our God is one. 00:19:57.12\00:20:01.97 And Jesus also told the truth. "I and my Father are one." 00:20:02.00\00:20:07.34 In your illustration, Levi, 00:20:07.37\00:20:09.61 you used H2O to illustrate the oneness of God. 00:20:09.64\00:20:13.66 The different forms H2O can take are solid 00:20:13.69\00:20:16.68 which you used to represent the Father 00:20:16.71\00:20:18.72 and liquid to represent Jesus. 00:20:18.75\00:20:21.57 Well, what about H2O as gas. 00:20:21.60\00:20:25.07 Could that represent the Holy Spirit 00:20:25.10\00:20:27.62 and is the Holy Spirit a living part 00:20:27.65\00:20:30.27 of the Godhead or just a force. 00:20:30.30\00:20:33.57 Investigation reveals that from the beginning of creation, 00:20:33.60\00:20:37.23 the Spirit was already there. 00:20:37.26\00:20:40.34 You can read about it in the second verse of the Bible. 00:20:40.37\00:20:43.95 "And the earth was without form, and void, 00:20:43.98\00:20:47.11 and darkness was upon the face of the deep. 00:20:47.14\00:20:50.03 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." 00:20:50.06\00:20:55.30 However a careful read of 273 verses in the Bible 00:20:55.33\00:20:59.12 reveal some straddling insights. 00:20:59.15\00:21:01.81 Not once in the whole Old Testament 00:21:01.84\00:21:04.79 is the personal pronoun He associated with the Holy Spirit. 00:21:04.82\00:21:08.53 This is perhaps part of the reason the Jews 00:21:08.56\00:21:11.62 even today reject this plurality of the Godhead, 00:21:11.65\00:21:15.48 even some who claimed the name of Christian 00:21:15.51\00:21:17.99 have come to believe that the Spirit of God is simply 00:21:18.02\00:21:20.73 some divine power or a force that emanates from deity. 00:21:20.76\00:21:25.24 But once again that conclusion does not fit 00:21:25.27\00:21:28.62 the entire reading of the Bible. 00:21:28.65\00:21:31.17 If you consider all the verses of the Old Testament 00:21:31.20\00:21:33.89 regarding the Spirit of the Lord, 00:21:33.92\00:21:35.57 I can see how one might be tempted 00:21:35.60\00:21:38.20 to believe the force theory, 00:21:38.23\00:21:39.83 though it's not stated as such. 00:21:39.86\00:21:42.35 Well, when Jesus came to His earth as the Messiah 00:21:42.38\00:21:45.33 in direct fulfillment to so many prophecies of the Old Testament. 00:21:45.36\00:21:49.02 He also brought added light and truth 00:21:49.05\00:21:51.66 on the subject of the Holy Spirit. 00:21:51.69\00:21:53.95 And if we are going to be Christians 00:21:53.98\00:21:55.92 that is followers of Christ, 00:21:55.95\00:21:58.43 then we must embrace His teaching 00:21:58.46\00:22:00.56 and doctrines on this subject. 00:22:00.59\00:22:02.73 So what did Jesus said about the Spirit of God? 00:22:02.76\00:22:06.10 Well, for starters, at least 18 times in the book of John, 00:22:06.13\00:22:11.17 Jesus used the personal pronouns He, Him and Himself, 00:22:11.20\00:22:16.16 in referring to the Spirit of God. 00:22:16.19\00:22:18.77 Jesus wasn't thinking of the Holy Spirit 00:22:18.80\00:22:20.76 as some spiritually electrical force, 00:22:20.79\00:22:23.75 but rather a personal being. 00:22:23.78\00:22:26.62 It was represented to Him 00:22:26.65\00:22:28.22 at His baptism as a living creature. 00:22:28.25\00:22:30.67 Matthew 3:16 says, "And Jesus, when he was baptized, 00:22:30.70\00:22:35.47 saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, 00:22:35.50\00:22:38.74 and lighting upon him." 00:22:38.77\00:22:41.16 And Jesus announced that His powerful life of service 00:22:41.19\00:22:44.11 was a direct fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 61:1. 00:22:44.14\00:22:49.63 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, 00:22:49.66\00:22:51.99 because he hath anointed me 00:22:52.02\00:22:53.71 to preach the gospel to the poor, 00:22:53.74\00:22:56.13 he hath send me to heal the brokenhearted, 00:22:56.16\00:22:58.74 to preach deliverance to the captives, 00:22:58.77\00:23:00.95 and recovering of sight to the blind, 00:23:00.98\00:23:03.67 to set at liberty them that are bruised, 00:23:03.70\00:23:06.02 to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." 00:23:06.05\00:23:09.77 Over and over the Bible attributes personality traits 00:23:09.80\00:23:13.72 to the Holy Spirit casting Him in the light of a living, 00:23:13.75\00:23:17.82 thinking, feeling and being. 00:23:17.85\00:23:20.56 In the both the Old and New Testaments, 00:23:20.59\00:23:22.79 the Holy Spirit is portrayed as one 00:23:22.82\00:23:24.71 who can be vexed and grieved. 00:23:24.74\00:23:27.28 Paul taught in Romans 8:27, 00:23:27.31\00:23:29.94 that the Holy Spirit has a mind 00:23:29.97\00:23:32.86 and one would need a mind to do 00:23:32.89\00:23:34.73 what Jesus said the Holy Spirit does in John 16:13. 00:23:34.76\00:23:38.68 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, 00:23:38.71\00:23:43.07 he will guide you into all truth, 00:23:43.10\00:23:45.66 for he shall not speak of himself, 00:23:45.69\00:23:47.87 but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, 00:23:47.90\00:23:52.16 and he will show you things to come." 00:23:52.19\00:23:55.05 Not only does Jesus used 00:23:55.08\00:23:57.64 seven personal pronouns in this one verse, 00:23:57.67\00:24:00.19 He also attributes traits of character 00:24:00.22\00:24:02.94 and personality to the Spirit. 00:24:02.97\00:24:05.26 This being will guide you, speak to you, and hear you. 00:24:05.29\00:24:11.68 Four times in the book of John, 00:24:11.71\00:24:13.60 Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the Comforter. 00:24:13.63\00:24:17.12 "But when the Comforter is come, 00:24:17.15\00:24:19.98 whom I will send unto you from the Father, 00:24:20.01\00:24:22.67 even the Spirit of truth which proceedeth from the Father, 00:24:22.70\00:24:26.59 he shall testify of me." 00:24:26.62\00:24:29.81 There is so much more I'd like to share about the Holy Spirit, 00:24:29.84\00:24:32.98 but time will not permit just now. 00:24:33.01\00:24:35.05 So let me encourage you to find our study aid 00:24:35.08\00:24:37.62 from the qlp.tv website. 00:24:37.65\00:24:40.02 I believe that study aid will help you 00:24:40.05\00:24:42.05 in your further investigation of the Holy Spirit. 00:24:42.08\00:24:45.41 The Bible is clear. 00:24:45.44\00:24:47.63 The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead. 00:24:47.66\00:24:51.09 The Bible clearly presents all three as God. 00:24:51.12\00:24:54.51 The true reason Christ was spurned is love of self. 00:24:54.54\00:24:59.16 love of sin and envy. 00:24:59.19\00:25:01.02 For the same reason, Christ is still rejected today, 00:25:01.05\00:25:04.94 but at what cost. 00:25:04.97\00:25:07.31 The kingdom was taken from the Jews 00:25:07.34\00:25:09.47 and their spiritual house was left desolate 00:25:09.50\00:25:12.23 and it is still desolate, but Jesus is still offering 00:25:12.26\00:25:16.00 a real and vibrant relationship with God today. 00:25:16.03\00:25:19.59 That conviction is born impart from the doctrine 00:25:19.62\00:25:23.41 or words of Jesus Himself in Matthew 28. 00:25:23.44\00:25:27.14 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, 00:25:27.17\00:25:30.50 baptizing them in the name of the Father, 00:25:30.53\00:25:33.09 and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." 00:25:33.12\00:25:37.45 Biblical baptism is not just being baptized into Jesus. 00:25:37.48\00:25:41.46 Oh, no, we are baptized into the entire Godhead, 00:25:41.49\00:25:45.85 Father, Son and Holy Ghost. 00:25:45.88\00:25:48.95 After all, all three were present at Jesus baptism 00:25:48.98\00:25:53.16 and this does not contradict the Shema. 00:25:53.19\00:25:56.84 In Deuteronomy 6:4 the word one comes from 00:25:56.87\00:26:00.19 the Hebrew word echadh and it means united or one. 00:26:00.22\00:26:06.66 This is the same word used in Genesis 2:24 that said, 00:26:06.69\00:26:10.23 Adam and Eve were one flesh. 00:26:10.26\00:26:12.82 If our first parents could be two separate people 00:26:12.85\00:26:16.37 and yet one or echadh, 00:26:16.40\00:26:18.80 then Jesus and the Father could also be One God. 00:26:18.83\00:26:23.63 Even in ways He cannot yet fully comprehend. 00:26:23.66\00:26:27.30 Now listen and listen carefully to this doctrine, 00:26:27.33\00:26:30.41 this powerful teaching of Jesus. 00:26:30.44\00:26:33.18 Before Jesus went back to heaven, 00:26:33.21\00:26:35.31 He prayed for you and me, His followers. 00:26:35.34\00:26:38.69 He prayed for every person who would hear His truths 00:26:38.72\00:26:42.53 taught by His disciples. 00:26:42.56\00:26:44.13 He prayed for everyone who would believe, 00:26:44.16\00:26:46.51 listen with your heart to His prayer in John 17:21. 00:26:46.54\00:26:51.84 "That they all may be one, as thou, Father, 00:26:51.87\00:26:56.06 art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, 00:26:56.09\00:27:02.15 that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." 00:27:02.18\00:27:06.03 He is asking the Father to make us one with each other 00:27:06.06\00:27:10.39 and one with the Father and Himself 00:27:10.42\00:27:12.24 just like He and the Father are one. 00:27:12.27\00:27:15.38 What Jesus is inviting us to is a profoundly spiritual 00:27:15.41\00:27:20.87 and other worldly experience. 00:27:20.90\00:27:23.65 Imagine echadh, one in the same way 00:27:23.68\00:27:27.68 Jesus and the Father are one, that's intimate. 00:27:27.71\00:27:32.13 It doesn't matter if you're Jewish, Christian, 00:27:32.16\00:27:34.76 or Muslim, or anything else. 00:27:34.79\00:27:36.64 We're all invited to be one, 00:27:36.67\00:27:39.48 one with each other and one with God. 00:27:39.51\00:27:42.44 What choice will you make? 00:27:42.47\00:27:45.26
