Well hello, everybody. 00:00:16.04\00:00:17.61 Welcome back. 00:00:17.71\00:00:19.11 This is presentation number eight in a series of ten. 00:00:19.75\00:00:24.25 You'll notice that the subject that we're studying is, 00:00:24.75\00:00:27.49 The Great Cosmic Controversy. 00:00:27.76\00:00:30.43 The subtitle is, How God Clears His Name of All False Charges. 00:00:30.73\00:00:36.63 Now in our study this evening our topic will be, 00:00:37.13\00:00:40.07 Living Without an Intercessor. 00:00:40.10\00:00:43.20 We will deal with the close of probation 00:00:43.81\00:00:46.07 and briefly with events that take place 00:00:46.34\00:00:49.28 after the close of probation. 00:00:49.54\00:00:51.38 But before we do, we want to do what we always do 00:00:51.61\00:00:54.88 before we open God's Word. 00:00:54.92\00:00:56.52 And that is to pray that the Spirit who reveals Scripture 00:00:56.85\00:01:00.16 will come back to explain it to us. 00:01:00.49\00:01:02.72 And so I invite you to bow your heads reverently as we pray. 00:01:02.92\00:01:05.86 Father in heaven, we thank You for the many blessings 00:01:06.29\00:01:09.20 that You have poured out upon us. 00:01:09.23\00:01:10.77 We can't even begin to number the blessings that we have 00:01:11.20\00:01:15.30 received from Your hand. 00:01:15.34\00:01:16.67 We especially thank You for Your Word, 00:01:16.97\00:01:19.07 which is a sure guide in a world that is so confused. 00:01:19.41\00:01:22.54 We ask, Father, that You will be with us through the 00:01:22.98\00:01:25.15 ministration of Your Holy Spirit. 00:01:25.18\00:01:27.02 Open our minds and hearts so that we might understand 00:01:27.42\00:01:30.39 and receive the seed of truth that You would plant 00:01:30.42\00:01:33.66 in our hearts and in our minds. 00:01:33.96\00:01:35.82 And we thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer, 00:01:36.02\00:01:37.96 for we ask it in the precious name of Jesus. 00:01:37.99\00:01:40.40 Amen. 00:01:40.60\00:01:41.93 I'd like to invite you to turn in your Bibles with me to the 00:01:43.16\00:01:45.93 book of Daniel 7, and we are going to read verses 9 and 10, 00:01:45.97\00:01:51.57 and then we'll jump down to verses 13 and 14. 00:01:51.87\00:01:55.64 We've read these verses before, but now we are going to 00:01:56.08\00:01:59.85 summarize a few things that we've mentioned before 00:01:59.88\00:02:02.58 and move on to new territory. 00:02:02.62\00:02:04.72 Now Daniel 7 has a certain sequence of events. 00:02:05.29\00:02:09.29 We have the lion that represents Babylon, 00:02:09.59\00:02:12.13 we have the bear that represents Medo-Persia, 00:02:12.16\00:02:14.83 the leopard symbolizes Greece, 00:02:15.16\00:02:17.53 the dragon beast is the Roman Empire. 00:02:17.57\00:02:19.93 Then the dragon beast sprouts ten horns, 00:02:20.34\00:02:22.64 which is the division of the Roman Empire. 00:02:22.67\00:02:24.97 And then you have a little horn that rules for 1260 years 00:02:25.31\00:02:29.61 that ends in the year 1798. 00:02:29.91\00:02:33.58 And then we have the following event immediately mentioned 00:02:33.92\00:02:39.35 after the little horn's first period of rule comes to an end. 00:02:39.39\00:02:44.86 Daniel 7:9-10 00:02:45.16\00:02:47.66 Who is the Ancient of Days? 00:02:55.87\00:02:57.61 God the Father. 00:02:57.84\00:02:59.17 And where does God the Father live? 00:02:59.21\00:03:00.68 "Our Father which art in heaven," we pray. 00:03:00.88\00:03:03.24 So it says... 00:03:03.28\00:03:04.61 So after which date does the judgment begin? 00:03:33.01\00:03:36.18 It has to begin sometime after what date? 00:03:36.21\00:03:38.31 After 1798. 00:03:38.78\00:03:40.35 And we've specified that it began when? 00:03:40.38\00:03:43.12 October 22, 1844. 00:03:43.15\00:03:46.65 Now this is not the end of the story. 00:03:47.12\00:03:49.16 Because it says the court was seated 00:03:49.62\00:03:51.96 and the books were opened, but then there's another person 00:03:52.46\00:03:55.96 that is going to join the Ancient of Days 00:03:56.00\00:03:58.30 in the throne room in the Most Holy Place. 00:03:58.33\00:04:00.74 Let's go down to verse 13. 00:04:00.94\00:04:02.90 "...and behold, One like the Son of Man..." 00:04:06.07\00:04:08.41 Who is that? 00:04:08.44\00:04:09.78 That's Jesus Christ. 00:04:09.81\00:04:11.15 What are the clouds? 00:04:15.05\00:04:16.52 The angels. 00:04:16.58\00:04:17.92 Coming with the clouds of heaven. 00:04:17.95\00:04:19.29 Is this the second coming of Jesus? 00:04:23.22\00:04:25.23 It can't be the second coming because Jesus here 00:04:25.69\00:04:28.66 comes on the clouds but not to the earth. 00:04:28.70\00:04:30.53 He comes to where? 00:04:30.57\00:04:31.90 To the Ancient of Days in the Most Holy Place. 00:04:31.93\00:04:34.54 So it says here... 00:04:34.57\00:04:36.47 Now why did Jesus go in there? 00:04:42.84\00:04:45.01 What was the purpose of Jesus going into the place 00:04:45.05\00:04:48.08 where the court was seated and the books were opened? 00:04:48.12\00:04:51.05 Verse 14 tells us why He went into the presence of the Father. 00:04:51.09\00:04:56.09 Verse 14 reads, "Then to Him..." To whom? 00:04:56.12\00:05:00.03 To Jesus. Very well. 00:05:00.66\00:05:02.20 So what did Jesus go there for? 00:05:10.04\00:05:11.94 He went there to receive what? The kingdom. 00:05:12.11\00:05:14.74 So it says... 00:05:14.81\00:05:16.14 Now the question is, what is Christ's kingdom? 00:05:32.83\00:05:35.33 We've touched on this point before. 00:05:35.36\00:05:36.90 Usually we think of a kingdom in territorial terms. 00:05:37.23\00:05:41.37 Don't we? 00:05:41.60\00:05:42.94 The territory or the geographical area over which 00:05:42.97\00:05:46.07 an individual rules. 00:05:46.11\00:05:47.81 But when it comes to Jesus, His kingdom is composed of 00:05:48.01\00:05:52.71 the people that belong to His kingdom. 00:05:52.75\00:05:54.98 In other words, His kingdom are His people. 00:05:55.02\00:05:57.22 So what did Jesus go to do before the Father? 00:05:57.45\00:06:00.22 He went to perform a work of judgment to decide 00:06:00.26\00:06:03.43 who is truly a member of His kingdom. 00:06:03.63\00:06:06.53 Are you following me or not? 00:06:06.80\00:06:08.13 And after the last person who has professed Jesus Christ 00:06:08.36\00:06:11.57 as Savior has been judged, the kingdom of Jesus is what? 00:06:11.60\00:06:17.17 The kingdom of Jesus is complete. 00:06:17.34\00:06:20.01 So in other words, the judgment process reveals 00:06:20.51\00:06:24.08 who was a true follower of Jesus and who wasn't. 00:06:24.18\00:06:27.25 And as soon as all cases have been decided, 00:06:27.52\00:06:30.42 then the kingdom of Jesus is made up. 00:06:30.62\00:06:33.52 That's what Jesus went before the Father to receive; 00:06:33.56\00:06:37.29 to receive the kingdom. 00:06:37.33\00:06:38.66 To determine who are the subjects of His kingdom. 00:06:38.69\00:06:42.56 I want to read a statement from, Great Controversy, page 428, 00:06:42.86\00:06:47.24 where Ellen White describes this judgment process 00:06:47.50\00:06:52.07 and what happens when every case has been decided. 00:06:52.17\00:06:55.74 It's a short statement, but very meaningful. 00:06:56.01\00:06:58.31 That is, when everybody who has professed the name of Christ 00:07:02.52\00:07:05.65 has been evaluated in the judgment. 00:07:05.95\00:07:08.42 Are you catching that? 00:07:21.34\00:07:22.67 So how many people are judged? How many of those? 00:07:23.04\00:07:25.27 All. 00:07:25.77\00:07:27.11 And who are the ones that are judged? 00:07:27.14\00:07:28.61 Not only true believers, but those who have what? 00:07:29.04\00:07:32.01 Professed to be followers of Christ. 00:07:32.11\00:07:34.68 So she says again... 00:07:34.72\00:07:36.05 Are you with me? 00:07:55.00\00:07:56.34 Now when the door of mercy is shut, that's the moment 00:07:56.64\00:08:00.58 when the sentence is pronounced. 00:08:00.61\00:08:03.24 Either for life or not for life. 00:08:03.75\00:08:06.82 When do those people who have been judged 00:08:08.02\00:08:10.55 favorably receive their reward? 00:08:10.89\00:08:13.32 They receive the reward when Jesus comes. 00:08:13.79\00:08:17.03 Is there a period of time between when the 00:08:17.26\00:08:19.59 sentence is given and when those who are faithful to Jesus 00:08:19.63\00:08:24.47 receive their reward? 00:08:24.50\00:08:25.83 Yes. 00:08:25.87\00:08:27.20 In between those two points, when probation closes 00:08:27.24\00:08:30.67 and when Jesus comes to reward His people 00:08:30.77\00:08:33.34 by taking them to heaven, there is what the Bible calls, 00:08:33.38\00:08:37.08 the time of trouble. 00:08:37.11\00:08:39.08 Now that will be the subject of study for our next lecture. 00:08:39.45\00:08:43.28 Lecture number nine in this series. 00:08:43.59\00:08:46.49 But we're not going to deal specifically with that now. 00:08:46.52\00:08:49.46 But I want you to catch the chronology. 00:08:49.49\00:08:51.39 You have the close of probation, then later you have the 00:08:51.53\00:08:56.03 receiving of the reward. 00:08:56.13\00:08:57.73 And in between, you have the seven last plagues 00:08:57.83\00:09:01.10 and the tribulation, or the time of trouble. 00:09:01.20\00:09:04.21 Now let's discuss the close of probation. 00:09:04.61\00:09:07.78 Let's go in our Bibles to Daniel 12:4. 00:09:08.38\00:09:12.25 Daniel 12:4 00:09:12.45\00:09:14.75 Now this verse is not directly related to what we're studying, 00:09:14.98\00:09:18.05 but I'm reading it for a specific purpose. 00:09:18.09\00:09:19.89 And you're going to see why. 00:09:19.92\00:09:21.26 It says there in Daniel 12:4... 00:09:21.42\00:09:23.73 Now was the book going to be sealed forever? 00:09:31.13\00:09:33.27 No. 00:09:33.77\00:09:35.10 Because it says, "...seal the book until..." When? 00:09:35.14\00:09:38.44 "...until the time of the end." 00:09:38.47\00:09:41.18 So if the book is shut and sealed, can people 00:09:41.98\00:09:46.72 get a message from the book? 00:09:46.75\00:09:48.28 Can the people read the book and understand the book? 00:09:48.32\00:09:50.69 No, because it's shut and it's sealed. 00:09:50.72\00:09:52.79 So if the book is shut, a message cannot come from it. 00:09:52.82\00:09:56.06 Now notice, it says... 00:09:56.83\00:09:58.16 And that's been severely misinterpreted. 00:10:04.90\00:10:06.90 Because basically the way that it is generally used 00:10:07.30\00:10:10.41 is that when it says, "knowledge shall be increased," 00:10:10.44\00:10:13.54 it's talking about airplanes, and missiles, 00:10:13.58\00:10:17.98 and electric toothbrushes, and all of this technology stuff. 00:10:18.28\00:10:22.58 But that's not what the text is saying. 00:10:22.62\00:10:24.39 What the text is saying is that the book, 00:10:24.65\00:10:27.56 in this case it's a particular portion of the book of Daniel, 00:10:27.59\00:10:31.96 is shut and sealed. 00:10:32.16\00:10:33.80 In other words, it cannot be understood, 00:10:33.83\00:10:35.50 a message cannot come from it, 00:10:35.53\00:10:37.17 until the time of the end. 00:10:37.47\00:10:38.97 But at the time of the end, people are going to 00:10:39.00\00:10:40.90 run to and fro, and knowledge of the book 00:10:40.94\00:10:44.97 is going to increase. 00:10:45.17\00:10:46.54 Because the book will then be what? 00:10:46.57\00:10:48.34 The book will then be unsealed. 00:10:48.71\00:10:50.78 The book will be opened. 00:10:50.81\00:10:53.25 Would it be too much to say that the secrets will be unsealed? 00:10:53.35\00:10:57.85 Now let's go to Revelation 22:10-12. 00:10:58.69\00:11:03.76 Revelation 22:10-12 00:11:03.79\00:11:05.93 And what I want you to notice is that there are three points 00:11:05.96\00:11:08.53 of time in these verses. 00:11:08.56\00:11:10.20 Three points of time. 00:11:10.23\00:11:11.73 Revelation 22:10-12 00:11:12.13\00:11:14.47 You'll see why I read that verse about the book being sealed, 00:11:14.50\00:11:17.37 about the book being shut. 00:11:17.41\00:11:18.87 "And he said to me, 'Do not seal...'" 00:11:19.37\00:11:23.24 That's the opposite, isn't it? 00:11:23.61\00:11:25.08 It's talking about Revelation. 00:11:28.88\00:11:30.22 Now what does that mean, "Don't seal the words 00:11:31.52\00:11:33.76 of the prophecy of this book." 00:11:33.79\00:11:35.12 Can the book of Revelation be understood? 00:11:35.16\00:11:37.13 Can a message come forth from it? 00:11:37.39\00:11:39.16 Can people receive the message and be saved 00:11:39.43\00:11:41.70 by studying the book of Revelation? 00:11:41.73\00:11:43.47 Yes, because it says here, "Don't shut up the book." 00:11:43.50\00:11:46.97 So if the book is open, a message of salvation 00:11:47.00\00:11:49.84 can come from it. 00:11:49.87\00:11:51.21 That's the first point of time. 00:11:51.57\00:11:53.07 The book is open, everybody can read it and understand it, 00:11:53.27\00:11:56.38 and be saved. 00:11:56.41\00:11:57.75 But now comes the second point. 00:11:57.78\00:11:59.61 It says, "...for the time is at hand." 00:11:59.81\00:12:03.49 In other words, the book is open now, but there's a time 00:12:04.69\00:12:08.22 a certain event is going to take place at a certain time. 00:12:08.26\00:12:11.86 What is that event that is going to take place? 00:12:11.96\00:12:14.36 Let's read the rest of verse 10. 00:12:14.46\00:12:17.47 Does this sound pretty determinative? 00:12:38.05\00:12:41.72 Does this sound like all cases are decided? 00:12:42.06\00:12:45.13 Absolutely. 00:12:45.16\00:12:46.49 In other words, when this takes place, 00:12:46.53\00:12:48.63 the book will no longer be open to present a message 00:12:49.16\00:12:52.70 that will bring salvation. 00:12:52.80\00:12:54.24 The time has come where all cases have been decided. 00:12:54.57\00:12:58.77 The unjust will continue to be unjust, 00:12:58.81\00:13:01.21 the filthy will continue to be filthy, 00:13:01.41\00:13:03.78 the righteous will continue to be righteous, 00:13:03.98\00:13:06.05 and the holy will continue to be holy. 00:13:06.08\00:13:08.38 But there's a third point of time. 00:13:08.65\00:13:10.39 And that's in verse 12. 00:13:10.42\00:13:11.92 Notice, it says there in verse 12, 00:13:12.12\00:13:14.32 and Jesus is speaking... 00:13:14.36\00:13:15.69 That's the second coming of Christ, isn't it? 00:13:26.90\00:13:28.90 So do you notice three points of time in these verses? 00:13:29.07\00:13:31.87 First of all, the book is open. 00:13:32.07\00:13:33.68 A message of salvation can come from it. 00:13:33.71\00:13:35.78 Oh, but the time is going to come when all cases are what? 00:13:35.81\00:13:39.35 Decided. 00:13:39.38\00:13:40.72 And then Jesus is going to what? 00:13:40.75\00:13:43.22 He's going to come and He's going to bring His reward. 00:13:43.25\00:13:46.65 So does probation close before Jesus comes 00:13:46.69\00:13:50.13 to reward the saints? 00:13:50.16\00:13:51.49 Absolutely. 00:13:51.53\00:13:52.86 Now let's go to Revelation 15:5-8. 00:13:52.89\00:13:56.50 Revelation 15:5-8 00:13:56.53\00:13:59.10 Now let me just mention that at this point 00:13:59.33\00:14:01.50 the three angels' messages have been proclaimed. 00:14:01.54\00:14:04.01 You know, the three angels' messages are God's last 00:14:04.44\00:14:06.94 message to the world. 00:14:06.98\00:14:08.31 They're found in Revelation 14:6-12. 00:14:08.34\00:14:12.35 As long as the three messages are being preached, 00:14:12.81\00:14:15.68 the door of probation is open. 00:14:15.72\00:14:17.65 But the time is coming when the door of probation 00:14:18.02\00:14:20.76 is going to close. 00:14:20.79\00:14:22.12 Notice Revelation 15:5-8. 00:14:22.29\00:14:26.90 Do you remember that we read once before 00:14:27.76\00:14:30.17 in Revelation 11:19 that the temple of God was opened 00:14:30.20\00:14:34.30 in heaven and the ark of His covenant was seen? 00:14:34.34\00:14:37.17 And that refers to the beginning of the judgment. 00:14:37.61\00:14:40.11 Could people enter by faith to follow what Jesus was doing 00:14:40.14\00:14:43.14 in the Most Holy Place? 00:14:43.18\00:14:44.51 Absolutely. We studied that. 00:14:44.55\00:14:46.18 But now I want you to notice that the temple is 00:14:46.51\00:14:48.45 going to be opened again. 00:14:48.48\00:14:49.82 The Most Holy Place is going to be opened again, 00:14:49.92\00:14:52.29 but this time it's not opened for people to be able 00:14:52.39\00:14:55.12 to go in by faith to see what Jesus is doing, 00:14:55.16\00:14:58.39 to sympathize with His work. 00:14:58.49\00:15:00.30 Remember what the people did on the Day of Atonement? 00:15:00.33\00:15:02.50 This time it is opened to let the plague angels come out 00:15:02.60\00:15:07.57 to pour their plagues out upon the earth. 00:15:07.60\00:15:09.84 Notice Revelation 15:5. 00:15:10.34\00:15:12.67 Now I want you to understand what the temple 00:15:22.08\00:15:24.55 of the tabernacle of the testimony is. 00:15:24.59\00:15:27.36 The tabernacle of the testimony is the tent. 00:15:27.56\00:15:30.63 It's called the tabernacle. 00:15:31.56\00:15:32.99 The Holy and the Most Holy Place. 00:15:33.33\00:15:35.46 But what is the temple of the tabernacle? 00:15:35.73\00:15:38.77 The temple of the tabernacle is the Most Holy Place. 00:15:39.23\00:15:43.10 So what is being opened here? 00:15:43.30\00:15:45.34 The Most Holy Place of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:15:45.37\00:15:48.41 And now notice verse 6. 00:15:48.88\00:15:50.61 Why is the temple opened? 00:16:14.17\00:16:15.60 It's not opened for people to go in now and be saved. 00:16:15.64\00:16:18.57 It's opened to let the plague angels out. 00:16:18.81\00:16:21.74 Has probation closed when the plagues begin to be poured out? 00:16:21.78\00:16:24.95 Absolutely. 00:16:24.98\00:16:26.31 So this is talking about the close of human probation. 00:16:26.35\00:16:29.58 Now will God's people be able to enter the Most Holy Place 00:16:29.72\00:16:33.09 by faith once this takes place? 00:16:33.12\00:16:36.39 No. Notice verse 8. 00:16:36.59\00:16:38.63 "The temple..." That's the Most Holy Place. 00:16:38.93\00:16:41.36 Are God's people, the living saints, are they going to 00:16:58.65\00:17:01.42 be able to serve God in the temple day and night, 00:17:01.45\00:17:03.62 according to the book of Revelation, after Jesus comes? 00:17:03.65\00:17:06.09 Yes. But after probation closes and until the plagues 00:17:06.29\00:17:10.79 are all poured out, is anybody going to be able to enter 00:17:10.83\00:17:13.86 the temple to be saved, to claim Jesus as the Mediator 00:17:13.90\00:17:17.97 or the Intercessor? 00:17:18.00\00:17:19.33 No. It says, "No one was able to enter the temple 00:17:19.37\00:17:23.44 till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed." 00:17:23.47\00:17:26.68 And the reason why is because when the seven angels 00:17:26.88\00:17:29.54 are pouring out the bowls, when they're pouring out the plagues, 00:17:29.58\00:17:32.68 probation has closed. 00:17:32.78\00:17:34.28 Jesus has finished His ministration, and no one 00:17:34.48\00:17:37.72 can enter there by faith. 00:17:37.75\00:17:39.15 You say, "Well, can we really enter the Most Holy Place?" 00:17:39.19\00:17:41.79 Of course we can. 00:17:41.82\00:17:43.16 We enter by faith, don't we? 00:17:43.32\00:17:45.03 Doesn't the Bible say that we can draw near 00:17:45.26\00:17:48.20 to the throne of God, in Hebrews 4? 00:17:48.23\00:17:50.80 Yes. We don't do so physically, because it says that this 00:17:50.83\00:17:53.77 temple is in heaven, but we do it in our mind. 00:17:53.80\00:17:56.84 We do it by following Jesus in the Sanctuary 00:17:56.87\00:18:00.04 in the work that He is performing. 00:18:00.08\00:18:01.68 Now let's go to Daniel 12. 00:18:01.91\00:18:03.91 Daniel 12, and I want to read verse 1. 00:18:04.11\00:18:08.48 Daniel 12:1 00:18:08.75\00:18:11.19 It says, "At that time..." 00:18:11.55\00:18:13.25 Incidentally, let me give you a little bit of context 00:18:13.29\00:18:15.42 before I finish reading this. 00:18:15.46\00:18:17.16 If you read the previous verses, 00:18:17.36\00:18:18.96 it talks about the king of the north. 00:18:18.99\00:18:20.63 The king of the north represents the papacy. 00:18:21.10\00:18:23.73 It's the same thing as the little horn, the beast, 00:18:23.77\00:18:25.97 the man of sin, the harlot, the abomination of desolation, 00:18:26.00\00:18:29.14 you know, the antichrist. 00:18:29.34\00:18:31.51 All are names of this system. 00:18:31.54\00:18:34.01 Different names given in different context. 00:18:34.04\00:18:36.38 And so it says there in the previous verses, 00:18:36.48\00:18:38.48 Daniel 11:44-45, that the king of the north will go out 00:18:38.51\00:18:42.68 with the intention of destroying and slaying God's people. 00:18:42.82\00:18:45.69 It's the same as Revelation 13 where it says that a 00:18:45.72\00:18:47.82 death decree is given against God's people. 00:18:47.86\00:18:50.39 People will not be able to buy or sell. 00:18:50.46\00:18:52.23 And those who do not worship the image of the beast will be what? 00:18:52.33\00:18:55.86 Will be killed. 00:18:55.90\00:18:57.23 So those two text are to be studied together. 00:18:57.27\00:19:00.27 So it says here, "At that time..." 00:19:00.57\00:19:02.54 When the king of the north goes out to destroy God's people. 00:19:02.64\00:19:05.44 "...Michael shall stand up..." 00:19:05.64\00:19:08.21 Now the question is, what does that mean, 00:19:09.28\00:19:11.28 "Michael shall stand up"? 00:19:11.31\00:19:13.82 Well, we need to go to Daniel 11:2-3, 00:19:14.85\00:19:19.02 where the identical expression is used. 00:19:19.22\00:19:22.86 Daniel 11:2-3 00:19:22.89\00:19:26.56 It says there... 00:19:26.93\00:19:28.26 Now unfortunately, the translation doesn't reflect 00:19:36.64\00:19:39.17 the fact that it's the same word. 00:19:39.21\00:19:40.58 In other words, the word, "arise," that is used here 00:19:40.71\00:19:43.45 in Daniel 11:2 is the same identical word, "stand up," 00:19:43.48\00:19:48.12 that is used in Daniel 12:1. 00:19:48.32\00:19:51.35 So what does this mean when it says, "three more kings 00:19:51.45\00:19:54.19 will arise in Persia"? 00:19:54.22\00:19:55.76 It means that three more kings are going to 00:19:55.86\00:19:58.03 rule in Persia, right? 00:19:58.06\00:19:59.76 Three more kings are going to reign in Persia. 00:19:59.86\00:20:02.83 Now let's continue reading. 00:20:03.13\00:20:04.67 There's the same expression. 00:20:15.31\00:20:16.88 A mighty king shall stand up. 00:20:16.91\00:20:18.81 What does that mean? 00:20:18.85\00:20:20.18 It means He's going to begin to what? 00:20:20.22\00:20:21.58 He's going to begin to rule or to reign. 00:20:21.78\00:20:24.12 That's what it says. 00:20:24.59\00:20:26.05 "...who shall rule with great dominion, 00:20:26.09\00:20:28.96 and do according to his will." 00:20:28.99\00:20:30.36 So the question is, what does it mean that Michael will stand up? 00:20:30.49\00:20:33.90 Michael is whom? 00:20:34.10\00:20:35.43 Jesus Christ. 00:20:35.63\00:20:37.03 "Who is like God," is the name Michael. 00:20:37.07\00:20:40.44 So what does it mean for Michael to stand up? 00:20:40.47\00:20:43.37 It means that Jesus is going to begin to what? 00:20:43.41\00:20:47.14 He's going to begin to reign or rule. 00:20:47.38\00:20:49.58 Why? 00:20:49.61\00:20:50.95 Because probation has just closed and His kingdom is what? 00:20:50.98\00:20:54.48 His kingdom is made up. 00:20:54.68\00:20:56.35 Are you following me or not? 00:20:56.69\00:20:58.22 His kingdom is made up because the judgment has finished. 00:20:58.49\00:21:01.26 Now He's going to stand up, which means He's going to 00:21:01.36\00:21:03.83 begin to rule over His kingdom which has been established 00:21:03.86\00:21:08.36 during the investigative judgment. 00:21:08.60\00:21:10.97 So does probation close before Jesus comes? 00:21:11.70\00:21:18.87 Let's finish reading Daniel 12:1. 00:21:18.91\00:21:22.11 He begins to rule because His kingdom is complete. 00:21:25.61\00:21:28.58 And now listen carefully. 00:21:32.29\00:21:33.62 "...and there shall be a time of trouble..." 00:21:33.66\00:21:35.92 Does this come after He stands up, after He begins to rule? 00:21:35.96\00:21:38.93 Yes. 00:21:38.96\00:21:40.30 "...and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was 00:21:40.33\00:21:43.03 since there was a nation..." 00:21:43.06\00:21:44.73 So is there going to be a time of trouble 00:21:45.33\00:21:46.90 after probation closes and before Jesus comes? 00:21:46.94\00:21:50.47 Yes. It continues saying... 00:21:50.51\00:21:52.41 That's the coming of Jesus. "...shall be delivered..." 00:22:04.25\00:22:06.59 Why are they written in the book? 00:22:10.29\00:22:11.79 Because they were judged and they were accounted worthy 00:22:12.13\00:22:15.10 to be in the book. 00:22:15.13\00:22:16.46 In the judgment that was done previously. 00:22:16.50\00:22:18.27 Are you with me or not? 00:22:18.30\00:22:19.63 All of this fits together and it makes sense. 00:22:19.67\00:22:21.90 Now there's another story in the Bible that shows 00:22:22.14\00:22:25.17 that probation will close and there will be a period of time 00:22:25.21\00:22:29.91 between the close of probation and the coming of Jesus. 00:22:29.94\00:22:32.75 I'm referring to what happened in the days of Noah. 00:22:33.08\00:22:35.85 Noah preached a powerful message, didn't he? 00:22:36.38\00:22:39.09 For 120 years. 00:22:39.65\00:22:41.16 Could we say that the book was opened, so to speak, 00:22:41.52\00:22:44.56 during those 120 years? 00:22:44.59\00:22:46.06 Was the message shared? Could people be saved? 00:22:46.09\00:22:48.60 Most certainly. 00:22:48.63\00:22:49.96 But then what happened? 00:22:50.00\00:22:51.33 Notice Genesis 7:16. 00:22:51.37\00:22:53.27 When Noah finishes his preaching, something happens. 00:22:53.30\00:22:57.14 Genesis 7:16 says... 00:22:57.44\00:22:59.44 Talking about the animals. 00:23:02.31\00:23:03.68 So was the door shut? 00:23:12.09\00:23:13.42 Who shut the door? 00:23:14.19\00:23:15.52 The Lord shut the door. 00:23:16.06\00:23:17.39 So as soon as the door was closed, it started to rain. 00:23:17.73\00:23:21.90 Nope. 00:23:23.03\00:23:24.37 How long went by between when the door closed 00:23:24.50\00:23:26.67 and it started to rain? 00:23:26.70\00:23:28.04 When the destruction came? 00:23:28.24\00:23:29.57 Seven days. 00:23:29.64\00:23:31.07 Do you think that during that period the faith of Noah 00:23:31.74\00:23:34.04 and his family was severely tested? 00:23:34.08\00:23:36.01 How do you think that the people outside behaved 00:23:36.85\00:23:39.05 for each day that went by? 00:23:39.08\00:23:40.55 They became more and more violent. 00:23:40.95\00:23:42.88 And more and more daring. 00:23:43.08\00:23:44.52 Was there a time of trouble, so to speak, for Noah 00:23:45.02\00:23:47.16 and his family inside the ark? 00:23:47.19\00:23:48.66 Was it a day of victory for the wicked who were outside? 00:23:49.06\00:23:52.03 Yes it was. 00:23:52.06\00:23:53.40 Jesus referred to this in Matthew 24:37-39. 00:23:54.20\00:24:00.64 Go with me to Matthew 24:37-39. 00:24:00.67\00:24:04.51 Do you see the two events that are being compared? 00:24:10.85\00:24:13.31 "As it was in the days of Noah, 00:24:13.35\00:24:15.08 so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man." 00:24:15.28\00:24:18.85 So the first, "until," marks the moment when 00:24:31.70\00:24:33.90 Noah entered the ark. 00:24:33.94\00:24:35.27 And the door was what? 00:24:35.30\00:24:36.64 And the door was closed. 00:24:36.67\00:24:38.01 But now notice, "...and they did not know..." 00:24:38.11\00:24:41.11 Who didn't know? 00:24:41.14\00:24:42.48 The people outside. 00:24:42.78\00:24:44.11 What didn't they know? 00:24:44.15\00:24:45.48 That they were lost. That's right. 00:24:46.18\00:24:48.25 So is the door of probation going to close 00:24:56.73\00:24:58.63 before Jesus comes? 00:24:58.66\00:25:00.00 Is there going to be a time of trouble in between 00:25:00.10\00:25:02.83 where the faith of God's people will be tested 00:25:02.86\00:25:05.23 and the wicked will become more and more 00:25:05.33\00:25:07.14 daring against God's people? 00:25:07.17\00:25:08.74 Absolutely. Because Jesus says, "As it was back then, 00:25:08.77\00:25:11.91 it will be at the end of time." 00:25:12.14\00:25:13.78 Incidentally, Jesus spoke of His coming 00:25:13.88\00:25:16.34 like the coming of a thief. 00:25:16.64\00:25:18.18 And people say, "Oh, the second coming is going to 00:25:18.91\00:25:20.88 be like the coming of a thief." 00:25:20.92\00:25:22.48 Not exactly. 00:25:23.15\00:25:24.49 Not the way that we generally think of it, anyway. 00:25:25.45\00:25:27.86 I want you to imagine it's one of those cold nights in Fresno. 00:25:28.49\00:25:31.76 There's not very many of them. 00:25:32.56\00:25:33.90 But it's in December and it's 30 degrees. 00:25:33.93\00:25:37.83 And you've come back from work and, you know, 00:25:38.23\00:25:40.30 you've had supper and you jump into bed. 00:25:40.34\00:25:43.20 You know, you lowered the thermostat 00:25:43.24\00:25:44.74 and you jumped into bed, and you're under the covers. 00:25:44.77\00:25:47.48 And all of a sudden you say, "Oh no, I forgot to lock the door. 00:25:47.51\00:25:51.71 Oh it's so nice and warm under these covers. 00:25:53.45\00:25:56.48 I just hate to get out to lock the door. 00:25:56.92\00:25:59.12 I've lived here for 25 years, and the thief has never 00:25:59.32\00:26:02.39 come in 25 years." 00:26:02.42\00:26:04.16 So the person stays in bed. 00:26:04.59\00:26:06.16 Lo and behold, unexpectedly, while everybody in the house 00:26:06.80\00:26:10.83 is sleeping, the thief comes and he finds the door open. 00:26:10.87\00:26:14.50 He goes in and he steals the television, praise the Lord. 00:26:15.20\00:26:22.08 He steals the video camera, he steals your cell phone, 00:26:24.25\00:26:26.88 he steals some money. 00:26:26.92\00:26:28.25 Oh, he has a heyday. 00:26:28.28\00:26:29.88 Does anybody in the house know that the thief has come? 00:26:29.92\00:26:32.75 No, because everybody is what? Sleeping. 00:26:33.05\00:26:34.99 That's why Jesus said, "Watch." 00:26:35.02\00:26:36.56 He's not saying watch for the second coming. 00:26:37.09\00:26:38.99 He's saying watch for the close of probation. 00:26:39.03\00:26:41.46 When do the people inside the house realize 00:26:42.36\00:26:44.83 that the thief has been there? 00:26:44.87\00:26:46.27 Is there a period of time that passes between when 00:26:46.47\00:26:48.50 the thief comes and when the people discover 00:26:48.54\00:26:50.94 that the thief has come? 00:26:50.97\00:26:52.31 Yes. When do they discover it? 00:26:52.34\00:26:54.38 In the morning when they wake up. 00:26:54.41\00:26:56.14 But then it is too late. 00:26:56.18\00:26:58.08 You know, the whole Christian world thinks that they can be 00:26:58.91\00:27:01.15 saved up to the moment that Jesus is coming in the clouds. 00:27:01.18\00:27:03.99 You know, they'll just say, "I'm Yours, Lord." 00:27:04.09\00:27:06.59 It's not going to happen that way. 00:27:06.62\00:27:07.96 Because probation will close before the second coming of 00:27:08.32\00:27:12.09 Jesus and there will be a severe time of trouble in between. 00:27:12.13\00:27:15.43 Must we prepare for that time of trouble? 00:27:16.13\00:27:18.70 By the way, that's going to be our next study together. 00:27:18.90\00:27:21.37 We're going to study about that time of trouble. 00:27:21.40\00:27:24.17 In fact, let's say a few things about the time of trouble. 00:27:24.21\00:27:27.48 You see, Satan complains that God has never allowed him 00:27:28.01\00:27:32.61 to fully implement his style of government. 00:27:32.71\00:27:35.65 He says to God, "You always interfere. 00:27:36.42\00:27:38.65 You don't give me free reign. 00:27:39.15\00:27:40.99 If You allowed me free reign to attack Your people, 00:27:41.49\00:27:46.49 You would see that they serve You, not because they love You. 00:27:46.70\00:27:49.80 They serve You because of the loaves and the fishes. 00:27:50.00\00:27:53.00 But You just don't let me get at them. 00:27:53.27\00:27:55.40 But if You gave me just one chance to have full control 00:27:55.74\00:27:59.64 of the planet, I would show that my style of government 00:27:59.67\00:28:03.08 is better than Yours." 00:28:03.11\00:28:05.21 So what is God going to do? 00:28:05.81\00:28:07.38 God is going to say, "Is that the case?" 00:28:08.48\00:28:10.52 You remember the story of Job, by the way? 00:28:10.55\00:28:12.65 In our next lecture, we're going to take a closer look 00:28:12.75\00:28:14.82 at that story of Job. 00:28:14.86\00:28:16.19 That is a prophetic story. 00:28:16.22\00:28:17.56 Are all of the heavenly beings observing what is happening 00:28:18.69\00:28:21.80 in this story in the book of Job? 00:28:21.83\00:28:24.30 Is the heavenly jury there? Yeah. 00:28:24.33\00:28:26.67 And Satan comes, he says, "Oh you know, Job serves You. 00:28:26.84\00:28:29.90 Of course he's blameless and perfect. 00:28:29.94\00:28:31.77 Because You give him everything. 00:28:31.81\00:28:33.14 You don't let me touch him. 00:28:33.17\00:28:34.51 You protect him. 00:28:34.54\00:28:35.88 But he serves You out of self-interest. 00:28:36.14\00:28:38.68 If You allowed me access to him, he would blaspheme You 00:28:38.71\00:28:41.88 to Your face." 00:28:41.92\00:28:43.25 Now God could have said, "You're a liar," 00:28:43.28\00:28:44.85 and left it at that. 00:28:44.99\00:28:46.32 And the heavenly beings probably would have wondered, 00:28:46.35\00:28:48.12 "Umm, what is God afraid of?" 00:28:48.16\00:28:50.53 So God says, "Okay, go for it. 00:28:50.83\00:28:53.53 Only you can't touch him." 00:28:53.56\00:28:54.90 And so the devil takes everything away from Job. 00:28:55.33\00:28:57.60 And then you have a second meeting in heaven. 00:28:58.20\00:29:00.04 The heavenly beings have seen that God is right. 00:29:00.40\00:29:03.00 Because Job says, "God gave, and God has taken away. 00:29:03.04\00:29:05.47 Praise be the name of the Lord." 00:29:05.51\00:29:06.91 In this, Job did not sin. 00:29:06.94\00:29:08.81 And so when you have the second meeting, 00:29:08.84\00:29:10.75 God says, "Oh, have you seen My servant Job? 00:29:11.55\00:29:13.48 He's still faithful in spite of the fact that you 00:29:13.52\00:29:15.58 turned Me against him." 00:29:15.62\00:29:16.95 "Ha," the devil says. "Of course. 00:29:16.99\00:29:18.89 Because You didn't let me touch him. 00:29:18.92\00:29:20.26 But if You let me touch him, You would see he serves You 00:29:20.79\00:29:23.53 because You're good to him." 00:29:23.56\00:29:24.89 God could say, "You're a liar. 00:29:25.99\00:29:27.70 Don't believe him." 00:29:27.73\00:29:29.06 But God knows that the heavenly beings would say, 00:29:29.10\00:29:31.43 "Well, you know, maybe the devil is right." 00:29:31.47\00:29:34.24 So God says, "Go for it. 00:29:34.27\00:29:36.81 Do whatever you want to him. 00:29:37.11\00:29:38.71 Except I will not allow you to kill him. 00:29:38.74\00:29:40.38 Because if you kill him, the trial is over." 00:29:40.41\00:29:42.44 And so the devil goes out and he afflicts Job with boils 00:29:43.24\00:29:46.68 from the tip of his head to the soles of his feet. 00:29:46.72\00:29:50.05 He loses the support of his wife. 00:29:50.35\00:29:52.15 He loses the support of his friends. 00:29:52.19\00:29:53.82 And he even appears to lose his support of God. 00:29:54.06\00:29:57.56 And he cries out chapter after chapter, 00:29:58.03\00:30:00.03 Why have You turned against me, O God?" 00:30:00.23\00:30:02.60 But he doesn't give up his faith. 00:30:02.63\00:30:04.13 He says, "I know my Redeemer lives." 00:30:04.67\00:30:06.67 He says, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him." 00:30:07.00\00:30:10.21 He never let's go of the hand of God 00:30:10.24\00:30:12.47 even though he's asking, "Why have You forsaken me?" 00:30:12.51\00:30:16.01 Incidentally, did Jesus ask that same question, 00:30:16.18\00:30:18.78 "Why have you forsaken Me"? 00:30:18.88\00:30:20.52 Absolutely. Jesus went through the experience of Job. 00:30:20.55\00:30:23.49 So the Bible tells us that after Michael stands up, 00:30:24.19\00:30:26.92 after Jesus begins to reign, there's going to be a 00:30:27.12\00:30:29.66 time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation, 00:30:29.69\00:30:33.96 even to that time. 00:30:34.00\00:30:35.43 Notice how it's described in Matthew 24:21-22. 00:30:35.83\00:30:40.44 Matthew 24:21-22 00:30:40.47\00:30:43.41 Jesus described this tribulation in terms 00:30:43.74\00:30:46.68 similar to Daniel 12:1. 00:30:46.71\00:30:48.68 It says... 00:30:48.84\00:30:50.18 And it's going to be so terrible, 00:31:00.22\00:31:01.72 according to verse 22... 00:31:01.76\00:31:03.19 Now listen up folks, God is going to allow Satan 00:31:13.70\00:31:17.81 to afflict His people. 00:31:18.34\00:31:19.77 He is going to allow the devil to try them and test them 00:31:20.24\00:31:24.28 to the utmost. 00:31:24.31\00:31:25.65 They will lose everything, like Job did. 00:31:26.11\00:31:29.18 They will lose possessions, they will lose houses, 00:31:29.28\00:31:31.82 they will lose lands, they will lose their health, 00:31:31.85\00:31:34.32 they will lose the support of family and friends. 00:31:34.36\00:31:36.73 And they will even begin to fear that they have lost 00:31:36.96\00:31:39.69 their best Friend, which is God. 00:31:39.73\00:31:41.80 And they will struggle with whether they have any sins 00:31:41.83\00:31:45.37 that stand between them and God. 00:31:45.63\00:31:48.50 The devil will be given free reign, except that God will 00:31:49.07\00:31:52.01 say to the devil, "You can test them to the utmost 00:31:52.04\00:31:54.91 so that the heavenly universe can see that they serve Me 00:31:55.01\00:31:58.51 because they love Me, and not out of self-interest." 00:31:58.55\00:32:01.32 Is God giving a revelation of His character in contrast 00:32:01.35\00:32:04.55 to the character of Satan and the time of trouble?" 00:32:04.59\00:32:06.55 He most certainly is. 00:32:06.59\00:32:07.92 And we're going to study this a little bit more 00:32:07.96\00:32:09.92 in our next lecture together. 00:32:09.96\00:32:12.09 So the devil will be allowed to implement his plan 00:32:12.46\00:32:15.70 without any interference by God, except that God will not allow 00:32:15.80\00:32:20.94 His people to be slain. 00:32:20.97\00:32:23.00 God's people will go through an experience 00:32:24.07\00:32:26.07 similar to that of Job. 00:32:26.11\00:32:28.08 And they will not let loose of the hand of the Lord. 00:32:28.48\00:32:33.05 In fact, Ellen White has explained that God's people 00:32:33.35\00:32:36.25 will go through a similar experience to the experience 00:32:36.28\00:32:39.02 that Jesus went through in Gethsemane and on the cross. 00:32:39.05\00:32:42.99 Let me read you this statement from, Review and Herald, 00:32:43.22\00:32:45.39 April 14, 1896, where Ellen White is describing 00:32:45.43\00:32:49.56 what is going to happen with God's people. 00:32:49.76\00:32:53.03 Wow! 00:33:14.62\00:33:15.96 So are God's people going to cry out, "Why have You forsaken me?" 00:33:16.12\00:33:18.99 Absolutely. 00:33:19.03\00:33:20.36 Do you know, when Jesus hung on the cross He had nothing. 00:33:20.76\00:33:22.86 Not even His clothes. 00:33:22.90\00:33:24.27 He had lost everything. 00:33:25.00\00:33:26.33 And it appeared like He had lost the support of His Father too. 00:33:26.37\00:33:29.20 But His Father was close by. 00:33:29.54\00:33:31.07 Jesus did not go by His feelings. 00:33:31.47\00:33:33.54 He went by the promises of His Father, that if He was faithful, 00:33:34.04\00:33:37.21 His Father was going to resurrect Him on the third day. 00:33:37.25\00:33:40.12 That's why He commended His spirit 00:33:40.15\00:33:42.05 into the hands of His Father. 00:33:42.08\00:33:43.72 So she says... 00:33:43.89\00:33:45.22 That is, men will become demons. 00:33:57.00\00:33:59.33 That's what this world is going to be like 00:34:16.82\00:34:18.49 in the time of trouble. 00:34:18.52\00:34:19.85 And you know, sometimes preachers try to scare people 00:34:19.89\00:34:22.79 into serving the Lord and saying, "You're not going to 00:34:22.89\00:34:24.89 have an Intercessor. 00:34:24.93\00:34:26.26 God's going to leave you here." 00:34:26.36\00:34:27.76 Listen, folks, we are not going to have anybody to intercede 00:34:27.80\00:34:30.37 for our sins, but Jesus will be our Protector. 00:34:30.40\00:34:33.23 Because if Jesus is not the Protector, nobody would survive. 00:34:33.90\00:34:37.44 Now, after probation closes and the time of trouble 00:34:38.21\00:34:44.95 is about to begin, a special ceremony takes place. 00:34:45.51\00:34:50.62 The last ceremony on the Day of Atonement. 00:34:50.72\00:34:54.02 It's known as the scapegoat ceremony. 00:34:54.22\00:34:57.43 You see, two goats were chosen. 00:34:57.99\00:34:59.69 One for the Lord; that one was sacrificed. 00:34:59.73\00:35:01.70 The blood was shed. Represents the death of Christ. 00:35:01.73\00:35:04.10 The other goat, the other male goat, was not slain. 00:35:04.43\00:35:10.77 That goat was brought to the entrance to the tent. 00:35:11.47\00:35:15.91 In other words, he's in the court of the Sanctuary. 00:35:15.94\00:35:18.81 And the high priest would come through the Most Holy Place, 00:35:19.18\00:35:22.98 and then through the Holy Place to the door of the Holy Place 00:35:23.02\00:35:26.86 where the scapegoat was waiting in the court. 00:35:26.89\00:35:29.66 And you say, "Where does the Bible say that?" 00:35:29.89\00:35:31.73 Leviticus 16:7 tells us, "He," that is the high priest... 00:35:32.26\00:35:38.37 Are you catching the picture? 00:35:46.47\00:35:47.81 What does the court represent? 00:35:48.14\00:35:50.05 The court represents the earth. 00:35:50.38\00:35:52.35 In heaven there is no court. 00:35:52.38\00:35:53.92 Because the work of the court was performed by Jesus on earth. 00:35:54.32\00:35:57.85 You see, Jesus died on earth, and He resurrected on earth, 00:35:58.15\00:36:01.26 and He lived in our camp on earth. 00:36:01.36\00:36:03.26 So the heavenly Sanctuary has a Holy and Most Holy Place, 00:36:03.96\00:36:06.66 but there's no court because the work represented by the court 00:36:06.70\00:36:09.76 was fulfilled by Jesus while He was here on the earth. 00:36:09.80\00:36:12.73 Are you following me or not? 00:36:12.77\00:36:14.10 And so where will the scapegoat be 00:36:14.24\00:36:16.60 when this is finally fulfilled? 00:36:16.64\00:36:18.67 He will be on earth. 00:36:18.71\00:36:20.04 And Jesus, the High Priest, will come out and He will perform 00:36:20.71\00:36:24.91 this Azazel ceremony, this scapegoat ceremony. 00:36:25.01\00:36:29.68 He will bring all of the sins that were introduced 00:36:30.19\00:36:34.29 into the Sanctuary through the blood of Jesus, 00:36:34.32\00:36:36.76 all of the sins that were forgiven, 00:36:37.03\00:36:38.99 and He's going to bring all of those sins to the entrance 00:36:39.53\00:36:43.60 of the tabernacle of meeting and He will place both hands 00:36:43.63\00:36:47.47 on the head of the scapegoat. 00:36:47.50\00:36:49.34 In this case, what does the scapegoat represent? 00:36:49.37\00:36:52.07 The scapegoat represents Satan. 00:36:52.17\00:36:54.78 And all of the sins of the righteous that were placed 00:36:54.88\00:36:59.45 in the Sanctuary through the blood will be placed 00:36:59.48\00:37:02.22 upon the head of the scapegoat, who is ultimately responsible 00:37:02.35\00:37:06.19 for the origin and the perpetuation of sin. 00:37:06.29\00:37:10.13 Now some people say, "Well, Pastor Bohr, Adventist believe 00:37:11.26\00:37:13.76 that Satan is their savior because the sins are 00:37:13.80\00:37:15.80 placed on the head of the scapegoat." 00:37:15.83\00:37:17.67 Well the fact is that those who say that are not 00:37:18.07\00:37:22.10 careful in their analysis. 00:37:22.14\00:37:23.67 Let me tell you the reason why just because the final 00:37:23.71\00:37:27.54 responsibility for the sins that Satan led God's people to commit 00:37:27.58\00:37:31.35 are placed on the head of the scapegoat, 00:37:31.38\00:37:33.55 it doesn't mean that the scapegoat is our savior. 00:37:33.58\00:37:36.02 Five points that I want to mention. 00:37:36.32\00:37:38.05 Number one, clearly the two goats are opposites. 00:37:38.32\00:37:43.76 Some scholars say both goats represent Jesus. 00:37:45.13\00:37:47.53 No, no, no. 00:37:47.56\00:37:48.90 It says in Leviticus 16:8-10 that one is for the Lord 00:37:48.93\00:37:53.77 and the other is for Azazel. 00:37:54.27\00:37:56.74 Incidentally, in Jewish tradition... 00:37:56.84\00:37:58.84 And we don't go by Jewish tradition, but it's interesting 00:37:59.04\00:38:01.11 to notice that, for example, in the Ethiopian book of Enoch, 00:38:01.14\00:38:05.31 it states that Azazel was a malignant being, 00:38:06.05\00:38:12.55 the originator of sin, and the leader of the rebellious angels. 00:38:12.65\00:38:16.83 So the Jews understood that Azazel represented 00:38:16.93\00:38:20.56 a malignant spirit. 00:38:20.60\00:38:21.96 Furthermore, when the sins are placed upon the scapegoat, 00:38:22.16\00:38:26.33 the Sanctuary had already been cleansed. 00:38:26.37\00:38:29.24 So the scapegoat is not cleansing the Sanctuary. 00:38:30.24\00:38:33.31 The blood of Jesus cleansed the Sanctuary. 00:38:33.51\00:38:35.81 And then the final responsibility is placed 00:38:35.84\00:38:38.41 on the head of the scapegoat. 00:38:38.45\00:38:39.91 Furthermore, the blood of the scapegoat was not shed. 00:38:39.95\00:38:44.09 And it says in Hebrews 9:22 that without the shedding of blood, 00:38:44.59\00:38:48.79 there is no remission or forgiveness of sins. 00:38:48.89\00:38:51.79 So the scapegoat was not sacrificed to forgive sin. 00:38:51.96\00:38:55.46 He bore the ultimate responsibility for sin. 00:38:55.70\00:38:59.13 And finally, the scapegoat was sent to the wilderness 00:38:59.60\00:39:03.81 where there was no inhabitant. 00:39:03.91\00:39:06.11 You can find that in Leviticus 16:22. 00:39:06.27\00:39:09.11 Can you think of a passage in the book of Revelation 00:39:09.14\00:39:11.75 where a certain being is sent to a desolate wilderness 00:39:11.81\00:39:15.68 where there are no inhabitants? 00:39:15.88\00:39:17.55 Revelation 20 00:39:17.79\00:39:19.55 It says that a mighty angel descends from heaven 00:39:20.12\00:39:22.39 with a chain in his hand, and he's going to chain the devil 00:39:22.42\00:39:25.63 to a desolate planet which is without form and void, 00:39:25.73\00:39:29.80 according to Jeremiah 4. 00:39:29.83\00:39:31.67 And where all of his followers are what? 00:39:31.70\00:39:34.24 Are dead. 00:39:34.47\00:39:35.80 And so, clearly the one who bears the ultimate 00:39:35.84\00:39:38.64 responsibility for the sins of the righteous is Satan. 00:39:38.67\00:39:44.55 Now the wicked, they're going to suffer their own penalty. 00:39:44.81\00:39:47.35 Because they did not place their sins into the Sanctuary. 00:39:47.62\00:39:50.29 Now there's a question that comes up many times. 00:39:50.69\00:39:54.12 And that is, did Jesus suffer the second death? 00:39:54.16\00:39:58.23 You know, I once had a conversation 00:39:59.56\00:40:01.80 with an evangelical. 00:40:01.83\00:40:03.70 He was not a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:40:03.73\00:40:05.23 And I asked him this question: 00:40:05.70\00:40:08.57 Which death is the wages of sin, 00:40:08.77\00:40:11.24 the first death or the second death? 00:40:11.74\00:40:14.01 And of course he says, "Oh, it's very clear 00:40:14.64\00:40:17.55 that the wages of sin, the final penalty for sin, 00:40:17.58\00:40:20.35 is second death." 00:40:20.38\00:40:21.72 I said, "Well, that's a good answer." 00:40:21.75\00:40:23.35 Then I asked him, "What is second death?" 00:40:23.75\00:40:26.99 And he was pretty well versed, theologically. 00:40:27.42\00:40:29.76 He says, "Well, second death is eternal separation from God." 00:40:29.79\00:40:34.90 And I looked at him and I said, "Yeah, okay. 00:40:35.90\00:40:39.20 It's a good answer." 00:40:39.23\00:40:40.57 And then I asked him, "Did Jesus suffer the second death?" 00:40:40.70\00:40:44.67 And he didn't answer as quickly now. 00:40:46.51\00:40:49.01 He said, "Well, yes He did." 00:40:49.74\00:40:52.35 And so then I asked him the question, I said, 00:40:53.08\00:40:56.38 "If Jesus suffered the second death, 00:40:56.42\00:40:58.72 and the second death is eternal separation from God, 00:40:59.49\00:41:02.29 why isn't Jesus separated from God?" 00:41:02.32\00:41:05.09 Are you understanding my question? 00:41:06.26\00:41:07.83 There was a long silence. 00:41:08.60\00:41:10.27 He said, "I don't now." 00:41:12.00\00:41:13.50 I said, "I do." 00:41:14.04\00:41:15.37 He says, "What do you mean?" 00:41:16.81\00:41:18.14 I told him about the scapegoat ceremony. 00:41:18.47\00:41:20.68 Who is it that's going to suffer second death for all of the sins 00:41:21.01\00:41:25.18 that he led God's faithful people to commit? 00:41:25.28\00:41:27.78 Satan. 00:41:28.18\00:41:29.52 Are the wicked also going to suffer second death 00:41:29.55\00:41:31.72 for their own sins because they did not 00:41:31.75\00:41:33.22 place them in the Sanctuary? 00:41:33.25\00:41:34.59 Absolutely. 00:41:34.62\00:41:35.96 So the scapegoat ceremony is the only way that we can explain 00:41:35.99\00:41:39.39 why Jesus is not eternally separated from His Father. 00:41:39.59\00:41:43.20 It's because the ultimate originator and perpetuator 00:41:43.30\00:41:46.47 of sin is going to. 00:41:46.50\00:41:47.84 Are you following me or not? 00:41:47.87\00:41:49.20 Now, when Jesus returns the second time, 00:41:49.94\00:41:54.21 He will be free of the stain of sin. 00:41:54.64\00:41:58.61 Because He will have cleansed the Sanctuary 00:41:58.65\00:42:00.45 and placed the sins where they belong. 00:42:00.55\00:42:02.72 Notice Hebrews 9:27-28. 00:42:03.08\00:42:06.09 Hebrews 9:27-28 00:42:06.12\00:42:08.09 Why will He appear apart from sin? 00:42:28.44\00:42:30.58 Because all of the sins have been placed where? 00:42:30.61\00:42:32.91 On the head of the scapegoat. 00:42:32.95\00:42:34.92 And then I'll tell you what the high priest would do. 00:42:35.18\00:42:37.09 After he had placed all of the responsibility upon 00:42:37.25\00:42:40.02 the head of the scapegoat, then the high priest 00:42:40.06\00:42:42.86 would return to the Most Holy Place 00:42:43.09\00:42:46.80 and he would change his garments. 00:42:46.83\00:42:49.30 He would take off his high priestly garments 00:42:50.10\00:42:53.47 and he would change. 00:42:54.40\00:42:55.74 Now, I was once talking to some Seventh-day Adventist pastor 00:42:56.24\00:43:01.51 who didn't much believe in what Ellen White says. 00:43:02.31\00:43:04.71 You know, Ellen White explains that Jesus, before He comes, 00:43:04.75\00:43:10.15 He's going to change His garments from His high priestly 00:43:10.19\00:43:12.25 garments, He's going to change to His kingly garments. 00:43:12.29\00:43:15.49 So he says, "Ellen White says that, but where does 00:43:15.82\00:43:17.79 the Bible say that?" 00:43:17.83\00:43:19.16 And you know, he was being facetious in his question. 00:43:19.33\00:43:21.83 He was being somewhat sarcastic. 00:43:21.86\00:43:23.20 So I decided I would be sarcastic too. 00:43:23.23\00:43:24.93 I said, "Well, if you used half of that gray matter 00:43:24.97\00:43:27.17 that God put in your brain, you would be able to figure it out." 00:43:27.20\00:43:30.11 He says, "What do you mean?" 00:43:30.67\00:43:32.01 I said, "Listen, what is Jesus doing now? 00:43:32.61\00:43:35.98 What is the function of Jesus in heaven now?" 00:43:36.01\00:43:37.98 "Oh," he says, "that's simple. 00:43:38.01\00:43:39.35 He's High Priest." 00:43:39.38\00:43:40.72 I said, "Good." 00:43:40.75\00:43:42.08 I said, "If He's the High Priest, how is He clothed?" 00:43:42.12\00:43:45.05 "Well, if He's serving as the High Priest, 00:43:45.65\00:43:47.22 He must be clothed then as the High Priest." 00:43:47.32\00:43:49.66 I said, "Good. Two for two." 00:43:49.69\00:43:51.59 And then I said, "When Jesus returns to this earth, 00:43:52.83\00:43:55.50 how is He clothed?" 00:43:55.53\00:43:57.30 Ooh, there was a long time of silence. 00:43:57.93\00:44:00.50 Because he knew all about Revelation 19 00:44:00.80\00:44:03.71 that speaks about the second coming of Jesus Christ. 00:44:03.74\00:44:06.27 Let's read Revelation 19:11-15. 00:44:06.54\00:44:10.35 Revelation 19:11-15 00:44:10.38\00:44:12.95 This is the second coming of Christ. 00:44:12.98\00:44:14.55 How does Jesus come clothed at the second coming? 00:44:14.78\00:44:17.19 Does He come clothed as the High Priest? 00:44:17.22\00:44:19.42 No. 00:44:19.45\00:44:20.79 So it's very simple. 00:44:20.82\00:44:22.16 If Jesus is not clothed as the High Priest, 00:44:22.19\00:44:24.89 but when He returns again He returns clothed as a King, 00:44:24.93\00:44:29.00 some time before He came as a King He must have changed. 00:44:29.03\00:44:32.37 Notice Revelation 19:11. 00:44:33.30\00:44:35.27 So is Jesus going to come again clothed as a High Priest? 00:45:22.75\00:45:26.72 No. So He must have changed at some moment before that. 00:45:26.92\00:45:32.53 Now let me read you a rather long statement from Ellen White. 00:45:32.96\00:45:36.83 The little lady had it straight. 00:45:37.30\00:45:39.00 This is from, Early Writings. 00:45:39.63\00:45:41.74 This is the early Ellen White. 00:45:42.34\00:45:44.31 Because some people say, "Well, Ellen White, as she matured, 00:45:44.34\00:45:47.98 you know, she clarified certain things that she didn't 00:45:48.94\00:45:51.71 make clear early in her ministry." 00:45:51.75\00:45:53.85 This is, Early Writings. She makes it very clear. 00:45:54.98\00:45:56.99 In fact, Early Writings, is even clearer, I believe, than, 00:45:57.09\00:45:59.42 The Great Controversy, because it's done in a very 00:45:59.45\00:46:01.32 synthetic short form. 00:46:01.36\00:46:02.69 So you can follow the sequence a lot easier. 00:46:02.76\00:46:05.03 Notice... 00:46:05.39\00:46:06.73 This is at the conclusion of the judgment. 00:46:10.67\00:46:12.37 Now listen carefully. 00:46:23.11\00:46:24.45 "Christ had received His kingdom..." 00:46:24.48\00:46:25.81 That's Daniel 7:13-14. 00:46:25.85\00:46:27.85 So what does it mean that He received His kingdom? 00:46:36.12\00:46:38.16 "The subjects of His kingdom were made up." 00:46:38.59\00:46:41.66 If Jesus takes off His high priestly garments 00:47:14.73\00:47:17.27 when probation closes, is there going to be any Intercessor 00:47:17.30\00:47:20.80 during the time of trouble? 00:47:20.84\00:47:22.17 No, because He's no longer a High Priest. 00:47:22.37\00:47:25.07 She continues saying... 00:47:25.37\00:47:26.71 See, that's what we were talking about. 00:47:51.83\00:47:53.17 Like Job. 00:47:53.20\00:47:54.54 God says, "Okay, you say that you can rule better than Me? 00:47:54.60\00:47:57.94 Show it." 00:47:58.44\00:47:59.77 How do you think heaven is going to look at it? 00:48:00.14\00:48:02.08 They'll say, "Man are we ever glad we didn't 00:48:02.31\00:48:04.01 let this guy take over God's throne. 00:48:04.05\00:48:05.91 What a mess!" 00:48:06.41\00:48:08.02 She continues writing... 00:48:09.45\00:48:10.79 Some Adventist theologians cringe when they read this. 00:48:45.62\00:48:49.26 Because it means that you can no longer send your sins 00:48:49.29\00:48:51.99 to the Sanctuary. 00:48:52.03\00:48:53.36 She continues writing... 00:48:54.66\00:48:56.00 See, there's the scapegoat ceremony. 00:49:14.12\00:49:16.38 He left heaven for where? 00:49:33.07\00:49:34.70 He left heaven for planet earth. 00:49:35.04\00:49:37.27 Because that is His second coming. 00:49:37.31\00:49:40.18 Is this clear? 00:49:40.88\00:49:42.21 I mean, the Bible makes it absolutely clear. 00:49:42.78\00:49:44.58 And the spirit of prophecy explains it 00:49:44.61\00:49:47.28 in such a simple way. 00:49:47.48\00:49:49.25 She puts all of the pieces together 00:49:49.38\00:49:51.52 in a way that can be easily understood. 00:49:51.55\00:49:53.72 And then of course, probation is closed. 00:49:54.52\00:49:57.96 The sentence has been given. 00:49:58.26\00:50:00.13 The time of trouble, Satan has full control 00:50:00.50\00:50:03.93 over the finally impenitent. 00:50:03.97\00:50:05.47 God allows the devil to try His people to the utmost. 00:50:05.67\00:50:09.74 They go through the severe time of trouble. 00:50:09.87\00:50:11.94 There is no Intercessor, no Mediator. 00:50:12.07\00:50:14.54 Which means they have totally gained the victory over sin. 00:50:14.58\00:50:17.38 And at the end of the time of trouble, 00:50:17.48\00:50:19.21 then Jesus will come to bring His reward to His saints 00:50:19.25\00:50:23.79 which He showed in the judgment before 00:50:23.82\00:50:26.25 were worthy of receiving the reward of everlasting life. 00:50:26.29\00:50:30.49 Let's notice John 14:1-3. 00:50:30.89\00:50:34.66 So Jesus didn't go to build mansions. 00:50:44.71\00:50:46.47 They were already there when He was speaking. 00:50:46.51\00:50:48.14 How does He prepare the place? 00:50:54.08\00:50:55.52 By His work in the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. 00:50:55.55\00:50:58.12 Now listen carefully. 00:51:11.53\00:51:12.87 Jesus made two promises to His people 00:51:13.27\00:51:16.94 about their final inheritance. 00:51:16.97\00:51:18.57 First of all, He clearly said that He was going to 00:51:18.91\00:51:21.98 take them to heaven. 00:51:22.01\00:51:23.35 Is that clear from John 14? 00:51:23.38\00:51:25.01 He says, "I'm going to prepare a place. 00:51:25.31\00:51:27.28 And then I will go there with you. 00:51:27.32\00:51:29.62 I'll receive you unto Myself and we'll be in heaven together." 00:51:29.65\00:51:32.39 Did Jesus promise to take His people to heaven? 00:51:32.42\00:51:34.72 That was His first promise with regards to inheritance. 00:51:35.29\00:51:37.89 But did Jesus also say that the meek will inherit the earth? 00:51:37.99\00:51:41.13 So the question is, what are we going to inherit? 00:51:41.86\00:51:44.80 Is it heaven or is it the new earth? 00:51:44.83\00:51:47.07 You know, this causes a severe problem for those 00:51:47.74\00:51:50.81 who believe in the rapture. 00:51:50.84\00:51:52.17 Because those who believe in the rapture believe that 00:51:53.34\00:51:56.34 Jesus will reign on this earth during the millennium. 00:51:56.44\00:51:59.55 And they say, "Well that's the fulfillment of the promise 00:52:00.85\00:52:03.39 that Jesus would give the saints the earth to inherit." 00:52:03.42\00:52:08.22 But they say, "What about the first promise that He was 00:52:08.32\00:52:10.69 going to take them to heaven?" 00:52:10.73\00:52:12.06 So they have to invent a pre-tribulation rapture, 00:52:13.33\00:52:17.00 seven years before Jesus comes, to stay on this earth. 00:52:17.57\00:52:21.24 They have to create a pre-tribulation rapture. 00:52:21.27\00:52:23.44 They say, "Oh yeah, Jesus is going to fulfill His 00:52:23.47\00:52:25.81 first promise taking His people to heaven for seven years, 00:52:25.84\00:52:29.31 and then He's going to come here during the millennium, 00:52:29.64\00:52:32.28 and the meek will inherit the earth." 00:52:32.38\00:52:33.95 It's not necessary to invent a pre-tribulation rapture 00:52:34.32\00:52:37.59 to understand that Jesus fulfills both promises. 00:52:37.79\00:52:41.42 You see, Adventists have it in a much clearer way. 00:52:41.69\00:52:43.89 How does Jesus fulfill the promise to take 00:52:44.39\00:52:47.00 His people to heaven? 00:52:47.03\00:52:48.36 He comes the second time, He takes them to heaven, 00:52:48.40\00:52:50.97 where they spend how long? 00:52:51.00\00:52:52.40 A thousand years. 00:52:52.67\00:52:54.00 So in other words, the problem with the ones who believe in 00:52:54.04\00:52:56.30 the pre-tribulation rapture is that they got 00:52:56.34\00:52:58.44 the millennium wrong. 00:52:58.47\00:52:59.81 If you get wrong where Jesus is going to be during the 00:53:00.51\00:53:03.24 millennium, you have to have a pre-tribulation rapture. 00:53:03.28\00:53:05.98 I don't know if you're understanding what I'm saying. 00:53:06.01\00:53:07.52 But if you go by what the Bible says, 00:53:08.15\00:53:09.95 if you believe that Jesus is going to be in heaven 00:53:10.12\00:53:12.75 and the saints are going to reign with Him, 00:53:12.79\00:53:14.66 and they're going to perform a work of judgment 00:53:14.69\00:53:16.29 during the thousand years, and then after the thousand years 00:53:16.32\00:53:19.39 Jesus will come and set up His kingdom here, 00:53:19.43\00:53:22.23 and the meek will inherit the earth, 00:53:22.26\00:53:23.67 it's much more natural to understand how Jesus 00:53:23.70\00:53:26.13 fulfills both promises. 00:53:26.17\00:53:28.04 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:53:28.07\00:53:29.77 Now let's read Revelation 22:12. 00:53:30.21\00:53:33.51 Revelation 22:12. 00:53:33.54\00:53:35.11 We're still referring to the reward when Jesus comes. 00:53:35.14\00:53:38.45 Now if Jesus brings the reward, must He have determined 00:53:48.96\00:53:51.76 before He came what the reward will be? 00:53:51.79\00:53:53.93 Must there have been a judgment before to determine the reward? 00:53:54.56\00:53:57.50 Of course. 00:53:57.53\00:53:58.87 Notice 2 Timothy 4:6-8. 00:53:58.90\00:54:01.57 You know, Christians today, they say, "Oh, you know, 00:54:01.60\00:54:03.84 the apostle Paul, he was a good guy. 00:54:03.87\00:54:05.51 When he died, he went right to heaven." 00:54:05.54\00:54:07.34 That's not what Paul believed. 00:54:08.34\00:54:09.78 When did Paul believe he was going to get his reward? 00:54:10.55\00:54:13.01 When was he going to get his crown? 00:54:13.52\00:54:15.18 Let's read what He had to say shortly before his death 00:54:16.15\00:54:18.95 when he was in the Mamertine Prison in Rome. 00:54:18.99\00:54:21.42 2 Timothy 4:6 00:54:21.62\00:54:24.69 "...which the Lord, the righteous Judge, 00:54:42.04\00:54:44.15 will give to me when I die..." 00:54:44.25\00:54:46.25 No. 00:54:47.02\00:54:48.35 "...on that Day..." 00:54:48.38\00:54:49.72 So when is it that Paul was going to receive 00:54:56.86\00:54:59.06 the crown of life? 00:54:59.09\00:55:00.43 At the appearing of Jesus. 00:55:00.46\00:55:02.30 It's another way of saying, at the coming of Jesus. 00:55:02.33\00:55:05.93 Notice Matthew 16:27. 00:55:06.20\00:55:08.74 Matthew 16:27 00:55:08.84\00:55:10.81 The Bible is clear as to when people receive their reward. 00:55:11.07\00:55:13.58 Listen, if you receive your reward when Jesus comes, 00:55:13.61\00:55:16.54 you did not receive it when you died. 00:55:16.58\00:55:18.15 It's that simple. 00:55:18.51\00:55:19.85 So if you understand the judgment, 00:55:19.88\00:55:21.28 you understand the state of the dead. 00:55:21.32\00:55:22.88 Notice Matthew 16:27. 00:55:23.52\00:55:26.32 Is that the second coming? 00:55:31.43\00:55:32.76 Yes. 00:55:32.79\00:55:34.13 So when is it that people are going to receive their reward? 00:55:44.77\00:55:47.58 Not at death, but when Jesus comes again. 00:55:48.01\00:55:51.15 The Bible is so clear on this point. 00:55:51.25\00:55:53.11 And when was it determined what reward would be given?
