Well hello again, everybody. 00:00:15.48\00:00:17.35 It's nice to see you here today for session number seven. 00:00:17.55\00:00:21.85 I can hardly believe it. 00:00:21.95\00:00:23.35 Session number seven in our series, 00:00:23.59\00:00:25.79 The Great Cosmic Controversy. 00:00:25.82\00:00:28.52 And the subtitle is, How God Clears His Name 00:00:28.76\00:00:32.16 From All False Charges. 00:00:32.36\00:00:34.00 Before we begin our study, which is part 2 of the judgment 00:00:34.40\00:00:38.67 in the Most Holy Place, we want to ask for the Lord's blessing. 00:00:38.70\00:00:42.34 And so I ask you to bow your heads with me as we 00:00:42.37\00:00:45.57 implore God's presence. 00:00:45.61\00:00:47.61 Father in heaven, we have a very solemn and important subject 00:00:47.81\00:00:51.18 to study this evening, 00:00:51.21\00:00:52.55 and we need the help of the Holy Spirit. 00:00:53.01\00:00:55.25 So we ask that you'll be present through the Spirit 00:00:55.58\00:00:58.45 and through the angels, that You will give us understanding. 00:00:58.49\00:01:01.62 There are many complex things that we're 00:01:01.66\00:01:03.43 going to take a look at. 00:01:03.46\00:01:04.89 I ask, Lord, that You will make everything clear 00:01:04.93\00:01:07.86 to each person gathered here this evening. 00:01:07.90\00:01:09.90 That You'll make it clear also to those who are 00:01:09.93\00:01:12.67 watching the live streaming, and those who will watch on YouTube, 00:01:12.70\00:01:15.97 and on DVD, and on television. 00:01:16.00\00:01:18.31 I ask, Lord, that You will make this absolutely clear, 00:01:18.51\00:01:20.84 for Your honor and Your glory. 00:01:20.88\00:01:22.24 And we thank You for hearing our prayer. 00:01:22.44\00:01:24.11 For we ask it in the precious name of Jesus, amen. 00:01:24.15\00:01:27.62 Well, last evening we were studying about 00:01:28.85\00:01:32.95 the biblical concept of the judgment. 00:01:32.99\00:01:35.46 And we answered a series of questions in our 00:01:35.99\00:01:39.46 introductory subject yesterday. 00:01:39.49\00:01:41.60 Number one, we answered the question, 00:01:42.16\00:01:44.33 when does the judgment take place? 00:01:44.37\00:01:47.04 And of course, the answer is that it takes place 00:01:47.17\00:01:49.77 before the second coming of Christ. 00:01:49.80\00:01:51.84 More specifically, it begins on October 22, 1844. 00:01:52.11\00:01:57.18 Then we asked where the judgment takes place. 00:01:57.58\00:02:00.58 And of course, the answer is that the judgment takes place in 00:02:00.68\00:02:04.25 the Most Holy Place of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:02:04.55\00:02:07.59 We also asked the question, who is judged in this stage 00:02:08.02\00:02:13.66 of the judgment? 00:02:13.86\00:02:15.20 And we noticed that those who are judged are only those 00:02:15.26\00:02:19.27 who claim the name of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. 00:02:19.30\00:02:23.91 The cases of the wicked are looked at later on in history. 00:02:24.34\00:02:28.64 We also answered the question, why does God perform a work of 00:02:29.01\00:02:33.05 judgment if God already knows everything? 00:02:33.08\00:02:36.28 And the reason is because God needs to prove that 00:02:36.69\00:02:39.72 He's been right in every case before the heavenly universe. 00:02:39.75\00:02:43.73 Because they are not omniscient. 00:02:43.76\00:02:46.19 Then we noticed just very briefly the evidence that is 00:02:46.56\00:02:50.23 examined in the judgment. 00:02:50.27\00:02:51.83 And of course, the evidence is our life. 00:02:52.03\00:02:54.90 The Bible calls it, our works. 00:02:55.24\00:02:57.74 And finally we answered the question, 00:02:57.94\00:02:59.97 can forgiveness be revoked? 00:03:00.01\00:03:02.21 Once forgiveness has been given, can forgiveness be revoked? 00:03:02.58\00:03:07.12 And we noticed that the Bible clearly teaches 00:03:07.22\00:03:10.39 that if a person was not sincere in repenting, 00:03:10.59\00:03:14.32 and in confessing their sin, and had crocodile tears, 00:03:14.36\00:03:17.99 so to speak, then that individual, when their 00:03:18.03\00:03:20.86 name comes up in the judgment, the forgiveness that was granted 00:03:20.90\00:03:24.87 without God questioning at that point in the daily service 00:03:25.03\00:03:28.40 will be reversed or will be revoked. 00:03:28.44\00:03:32.41 Now this evening we're going to study a little bit more 00:03:32.91\00:03:35.88 about the process of the judgment. 00:03:35.91\00:03:38.81 How does the process of the judgment take place? 00:03:38.91\00:03:42.18 I'd like to begin by mentioning that the judgment began 00:03:42.62\00:03:47.72 with those who first lived upon the earth. 00:03:47.92\00:03:52.13 In other words, the judgment takes place chronologically. 00:03:52.36\00:03:55.73 It takes place with those who first lived, 00:03:56.20\00:03:59.03 it continues with successive generations, 00:03:59.07\00:04:01.87 and finally ends up with the judgment of the living. 00:04:02.10\00:04:06.14 I'd like to read a statement that we find in the book, 00:04:06.37\00:04:08.71 The Great Controversy, page 483, where Ellen White makes it very 00:04:08.74\00:04:13.58 clear who was first judged and how the judgment 00:04:13.62\00:04:17.92 proceeds chronologically. 00:04:17.95\00:04:19.99 This is how it reads. 00:04:20.02\00:04:21.42 Not the wicked. The righteous. 00:04:39.91\00:04:41.68 She concludes the statement by saying... 00:04:42.18\00:04:44.08 So there's several interesting details here 00:04:57.06\00:04:59.39 that are very important. 00:04:59.43\00:05:00.76 The judgment is of those who believed on Jesus. 00:05:01.00\00:05:06.03 And the judgment begins with those who first lived. 00:05:06.23\00:05:08.87 Which means that the first person to be judged 00:05:08.90\00:05:11.07 would have been Adam. 00:05:11.11\00:05:12.67 And then God takes up chronologically 00:05:13.01\00:05:16.64 each successive generation. 00:05:16.68\00:05:18.45 And finally before the close of probation, He ends with 00:05:18.48\00:05:22.02 the judgment of the living. 00:05:22.05\00:05:24.25 Now let's go in our Bibles to John 5:28-29. 00:05:24.75\00:05:29.92 If I was to ask you, where are the dead today, 00:05:30.83\00:05:34.73 I'm sure that as good Seventh-day Adventists, 00:05:35.06\00:05:37.37 good Bible students, you would say that the dead 00:05:37.40\00:05:40.70 are in their graves until Jesus comes. 00:05:40.74\00:05:43.91 Not only the righteous, but also the wicked are in their graves. 00:05:44.34\00:05:47.81 But we're concerned especially about the righteous. 00:05:47.84\00:05:50.91 Now John 5:28-29 clearly tells us where the dead are. 00:05:51.31\00:05:55.22 I read, these are the words of Jesus... 00:05:55.62\00:05:58.05 So where are the dead? 00:06:06.36\00:06:07.76 In their graves. 00:06:08.43\00:06:10.23 And then it says... 00:06:10.60\00:06:11.93 And of course, we know that takes place 00:06:22.11\00:06:24.15 after the thousand years. 00:06:24.25\00:06:25.78 Jesus is not concerned here about the 00:06:25.81\00:06:28.08 chronology of the two stages. 00:06:28.12\00:06:29.78 He's simply saying that there are going to be 00:06:29.82\00:06:31.69 two resurrections. 00:06:31.72\00:06:33.79 So where are the dead today, according to the 00:06:33.82\00:06:36.26 testimony of Jesus? 00:06:36.29\00:06:37.69 They are in their what? 00:06:37.73\00:06:40.20 In their graves. 00:06:40.23\00:06:41.56 What does the Christian world generally teach about the dead? 00:06:41.60\00:06:45.07 If they were good, they went where? 00:06:45.27\00:06:48.34 To heaven. 00:06:48.54\00:06:49.87 If they were bad, they go where? To hell. 00:06:49.90\00:06:52.67 And at least one church says that if you are half bad, 00:06:52.71\00:06:54.91 or maybe half good, you go to purgatory. 00:06:54.94\00:06:57.45 And if you had not reached the age of accountability, 00:06:57.68\00:07:00.35 you go to limbo. 00:07:00.38\00:07:01.72 All kinds of different spheres invented by human beings. 00:07:01.95\00:07:05.22 But the Bible is clear that the dead are in their graves 00:07:05.25\00:07:09.02 until the moment of the resurrection. 00:07:09.06\00:07:11.96 But now we have a problem. 00:07:12.33\00:07:14.73 We mentioned that the first individual to be judged 00:07:15.53\00:07:18.47 in 1844 would have been whom? 00:07:18.50\00:07:21.24 Adam. 00:07:21.64\00:07:22.97 Now the question is, where was Adam in 1844 00:07:23.00\00:07:26.91 when the judgment began? 00:07:27.18\00:07:28.64 He was in his grave. 00:07:29.04\00:07:30.55 So here is the big question. 00:07:30.68\00:07:32.78 How could he be the first to appear before the judgment seat 00:07:32.98\00:07:36.72 of Christ if he was dead and he was buried? 00:07:36.75\00:07:40.36 Are you understanding my problem? 00:07:40.39\00:07:41.99 Now it's not really a problem when we look at what the Bible 00:07:42.39\00:07:44.99 has to say about this. 00:07:45.03\00:07:46.83 I want to read from, Great Controversy, page 482, 00:07:47.76\00:07:51.13 where Ellen White explains how Adam appeared before 00:07:51.17\00:07:54.97 Christ's judgment seat in 1844. 00:07:55.00\00:07:58.34 This is how it reads... 00:07:58.64\00:07:59.97 So notice again... 00:08:10.12\00:08:11.45 In other words, the judgment takes place first 00:08:17.06\00:08:19.53 to show that they are what? 00:08:19.56\00:08:21.10 That they are worthy. 00:08:21.33\00:08:22.66 And after that, they are given their reward. 00:08:22.70\00:08:24.83 She finishes the statement by saying... 00:08:25.10\00:08:27.40 So how did Adam appear before the judgment 00:08:39.11\00:08:41.42 seat of Christ in 1844? 00:08:41.45\00:08:43.65 It was through his records. 00:08:43.85\00:08:46.79 It was through the record of his life. 00:08:46.82\00:08:48.62 He did not appear there personally. 00:08:48.66\00:08:50.39 He appeared there through his biographical record 00:08:50.53\00:08:53.56 that God kept in heaven. 00:08:53.60\00:08:56.30 Now when we read the Bible, we find that the Bible 00:08:57.13\00:09:00.77 speaks of books, plural, and book, singular, 00:09:00.80\00:09:05.94 in relationship to the judgment. 00:09:06.44\00:09:08.81 Now when the Bible speaks about the book, singular, 00:09:08.98\00:09:12.61 it's referring to a book that contains the names 00:09:12.81\00:09:16.22 of all of those who claim to have received Jesus Christ 00:09:16.25\00:09:19.52 as Savior and Lord. 00:09:19.55\00:09:20.89 So the book, singular, has names. 00:09:20.92\00:09:23.32 The books, plural, contain the life record or the biography 00:09:23.69\00:09:30.10 of the individual. 00:09:30.30\00:09:31.63 Now I want us to notice, for example, that our good deeds 00:09:31.87\00:09:36.44 are kept in a book, according to the Bible. 00:09:36.47\00:09:38.87 We find this in a very important text. 00:09:39.17\00:09:44.71 It read in the following way, this is Psalm 56:8... 00:09:44.95\00:09:48.95 "In the book..." 00:09:49.25\00:09:50.59 Actually, this is from Ellen White. 00:09:50.62\00:09:51.95 And then we'll notice a text from Scripture. 00:09:51.99\00:09:54.52 It is from Psalm 56:8, but I'm commenting now from Ellen White. 00:09:54.56\00:09:58.99 That's, Great Controversy, page 481. 00:10:29.22\00:10:32.33 So the question is, are the good deeds of those who 00:10:32.86\00:10:36.87 receive Jesus Christ written in a book? 00:10:36.90\00:10:39.80 Yes. 00:10:39.83\00:10:41.17 But also, in other books the evil deeds are written as well. 00:10:41.20\00:10:46.61 Now let's notice several text in Scripture 00:10:46.78\00:10:50.01 that refer to the books, plural. 00:10:50.05\00:10:52.88 2 Corinthians 5:10 00:10:53.31\00:10:56.05 Does God keep a record of our actions 00:11:11.53\00:11:13.80 whether they are good or bad? 00:11:13.84\00:11:15.17 He most certainly does. 00:11:15.20\00:11:16.67 What about our words? 00:11:16.97\00:11:18.31 Does God keep a record of our words in heaven as well? 00:11:18.34\00:11:21.14 Certainly. 00:11:21.41\00:11:22.74 Notice Matthew 12:36-37. 00:11:22.78\00:11:25.95 Jesus is speaking, and He says... 00:11:26.61\00:11:28.55 Does God keep a record of our words, good and evil? 00:11:43.50\00:11:46.57 According to Matthew 12, the testimony of Jesus, 00:11:46.84\00:11:50.27 absolutely. 00:11:50.47\00:11:51.81 God also keeps a record of the secrets of our hearts. 00:11:52.01\00:11:55.94 Notice Ecclesiastes 12, and we'll read verses 13 and 14. 00:11:56.18\00:12:01.25 Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 00:12:01.28\00:12:04.22 It reads there... 00:12:04.59\00:12:05.92 So if God is going to bring works into judgment, 00:12:15.16\00:12:17.37 does God keep a record of our works? 00:12:17.40\00:12:18.90 Of course. 00:12:18.93\00:12:20.27 So does God keep a record also of the secret things 00:12:28.98\00:12:31.68 that human beings don't see? 00:12:31.71\00:12:33.35 Absolutely. 00:12:33.38\00:12:34.72 Notice 1 Corinthians 4:5. 00:12:34.88\00:12:37.19 Once again it tells us that the secrets will come back 00:12:37.22\00:12:40.92 to face us in the judgment. 00:12:40.96\00:12:42.82 1 Corinthians 4:5 speaks about God unsealing 00:12:42.92\00:12:47.93 the secrets of hearts. 00:12:47.96\00:12:49.60 By the way, it has nothing to do with Secrets Unsealed. 00:12:50.17\00:12:52.80 He's going to unseal the secrets of the hearts. 00:12:52.83\00:12:55.74 This is how it reads... 00:12:55.97\00:12:57.31 So does God keep a record of us inside and out? 00:13:13.22\00:13:16.66 Words, actions, secret things, good deeds. 00:13:16.76\00:13:21.13 That's what is contained in the books, plural. 00:13:21.43\00:13:25.57 Books. 00:13:25.67\00:13:27.00 Now notice Daniel 7:9-10. 00:13:27.04\00:13:29.94 Now the context of this is that the little horn... 00:13:30.34\00:13:33.38 And the little horn, of course, represents the papacy. 00:13:33.74\00:13:35.94 Does the papacy profess to serve Christ? 00:13:35.98\00:13:38.51 Does the papacy profess to be a Christian system? 00:13:38.71\00:13:41.52 It most certainly does. 00:13:41.55\00:13:42.88 So would those who belong to this system 00:13:42.92\00:13:45.69 appear in the judgment before the second coming? 00:13:45.72\00:13:48.22 Absolutely. 00:13:48.26\00:13:49.59 So in Daniel 7:9-10, it's speaking about 00:13:49.76\00:13:53.16 the judgment sitting to take care of the cases 00:13:53.19\00:13:56.67 of all of those individuals who were mistreated 00:13:56.70\00:13:59.83 and who were persecuted by this little horn system. 00:13:59.87\00:14:02.44 And God, in the judgment, is going to set things right. 00:14:02.84\00:14:05.57 Now notice Daniel 7:9-10. 00:14:05.87\00:14:08.84 "...books..." Plural. 00:14:35.94\00:14:37.67 So all of the cases of those individuals who persecuted 00:14:38.61\00:14:42.71 God's people during the 1260 years are going to 00:14:42.74\00:14:46.01 come forth in the judgment. 00:14:46.05\00:14:47.42 Now that doesn't mean that only that is going to be looked at 00:14:47.45\00:14:51.45 in the judgment before the second coming of Christ. 00:14:51.49\00:14:53.76 Simply, Daniel 7 is emphasizing that it's those who were 00:14:54.22\00:14:57.99 persecuted by the little horn, because that is the subject 00:14:58.03\00:15:00.96 that is being discussed. 00:15:01.00\00:15:02.33 It's kind of like people say, just to digress a little bit, 00:15:02.86\00:15:05.50 people say, "Well you know, the Sabbath was for the Jews 00:15:05.70\00:15:08.60 because God gave it to the Jews." 00:15:08.64\00:15:10.37 But no where in the Bible does it say that God gave it 00:15:10.94\00:15:13.17 exclusively to the Jews. 00:15:13.21\00:15:14.88 It does say that God gave it to the Jewish nation 00:15:15.34\00:15:17.78 because they were God's people at the time when the 00:15:17.81\00:15:19.75 Ten Commandments were given. 00:15:19.78\00:15:21.12 But it doesn't mean that it applied only to them. 00:15:21.35\00:15:23.62 And so this judgment of the little horn doesn't mean 00:15:23.89\00:15:26.35 that only those who lived during the 1260 years 00:15:26.62\00:15:30.29 are being looked at. 00:15:30.49\00:15:31.83 Leviticus 16 tells us that all of those who profess 00:15:31.96\00:15:36.30 the name of Jesus before the second coming of Christ 00:15:36.33\00:15:39.77 come into this judgment. 00:15:40.04\00:15:42.50 Now notice Revelation 20:12-13. 00:15:42.74\00:15:45.97 I want you to see that there's a difference between 00:15:46.01\00:15:47.98 the books which contain the biographical record 00:15:48.01\00:15:51.88 of the individual and book, singular, which contains names. 00:15:51.91\00:15:56.45 It says here... 00:15:56.58\00:15:57.92 And by the way, this is speaking about the judgment 00:15:57.95\00:15:59.35 after the millennium. 00:15:59.39\00:16:00.72 However, in principle, that judgment is going to 00:16:00.86\00:16:04.23 function in the same way as the judgment 00:16:04.26\00:16:06.39 before the second coming of Christ. 00:16:06.43\00:16:08.06 It says there... 00:16:08.76\00:16:10.10 Do you see that there are "books" and "book"? 00:16:20.68\00:16:22.58 It says, "Another book was opened..." 00:16:23.14\00:16:25.61 So what is it that is found written in the books? 00:16:34.62\00:16:36.79 People's what? Works. 00:16:36.83\00:16:38.76 It says they were judged by their works, 00:16:38.79\00:16:40.60 by the things which are written in the books. 00:16:40.70\00:16:42.76 So the books contain the life record. 00:16:42.86\00:16:45.83 And the book, singular, contains the names of individuals 00:16:45.87\00:16:50.31 in chronological order according to when 00:16:50.51\00:16:54.28 they receive Jesus Christ, or claimed to receive Jesus Christ 00:16:54.31\00:16:58.78 as Savior and Lord. 00:16:58.98\00:17:00.75 In other words, in the heavenly books, 00:17:01.28\00:17:02.98 God has a complete record of the life of every single individual. 00:17:03.25\00:17:08.42 Every act, every word, every motive, every thought, 00:17:08.46\00:17:12.63 every emotion, even every opportunity to do good 00:17:12.73\00:17:16.83 which perhaps we did not take advantage of. 00:17:16.97\00:17:19.53 There is a complete biographical record in heaven, 00:17:19.87\00:17:23.61 inside and out, without missing a single detail. 00:17:23.87\00:17:29.48 In other words, there is another Stephen Bohr in heaven 00:17:29.88\00:17:33.25 in written form. 00:17:33.35\00:17:35.05 That doesn't mean that he's up there living. 00:17:35.15\00:17:36.72 Doesn't mean that there's a guy living here 00:17:36.75\00:17:38.69 and another one of me up there living also. 00:17:38.72\00:17:41.56 It simply means that God keeps in heaven a biographical record 00:17:41.79\00:17:45.49 of myself without missing anything inside or out. 00:17:45.53\00:17:49.66 Now Ellen White used the example of photography 00:17:50.00\00:17:54.27 when she talked about God keeping records. 00:17:54.47\00:17:57.07 You see, God speaks to the prophet in the language 00:17:57.27\00:17:59.87 that the prophet is accustomed to in his day and age. 00:17:59.91\00:18:02.91 You know, if John had talked about God keeping records 00:18:02.94\00:18:05.51 by photography, they would have said, "What's that?" 00:18:05.55\00:18:07.98 So they used the word, "books," because that's the way 00:18:08.38\00:18:11.49 records were kept. 00:18:11.52\00:18:12.85 But I believe that if God today wanted to explain to us 00:18:12.89\00:18:16.69 how He keeps records and how He retrieves them, 00:18:16.73\00:18:19.89 He would probably speak about video cameras, and hard drives, 00:18:19.93\00:18:24.10 and computers, because that's what we are accustomed to. 00:18:24.13\00:18:27.17 It's our way of storing information. 00:18:27.20\00:18:29.20 Which, by the way, is much more efficient than written records. 00:18:29.24\00:18:32.24 But Ellen White used the example of photography, 00:18:32.27\00:18:34.48 because photography was coming in when Ellen White lived. 00:18:34.51\00:18:37.65 I want to read you a couple of statements. 00:18:37.68\00:18:39.51 The first is found in the devotional book, 00:18:39.61\00:18:41.72 In Heavenly Places, page 360. 00:18:41.75\00:18:44.09 The second statement is in the book, 00:19:06.68\00:19:08.24 Testimonies on Sexual Behavior, Adultery, and Divorce, page 62, 00:19:08.28\00:19:12.71 where she states... 00:19:12.91\00:19:14.25 We don't use that word any more. 00:19:18.25\00:19:19.62 It means photograph, basically. 00:19:19.65\00:19:21.59 And so God keeps an exact transcript and record 00:19:36.10\00:19:40.14 of our lives, inside and out, good deeds, bad deeds, 00:19:40.34\00:19:45.35 words, actions, motivations, feelings, you name it, 00:19:45.38\00:19:48.88 everything is written in the books. 00:19:48.98\00:19:52.72 So do you understand what is contained in the books? 00:19:52.99\00:19:55.62 I hope so. 00:19:56.59\00:19:57.93 Now let's talk about what is contained in the book. 00:19:58.36\00:20:00.73 I mentioned that what is in the book is names. 00:20:00.76\00:20:03.63 Let's read several verses. 00:20:03.87\00:20:05.53 Philippians 4:3. Philippians 4:3. 00:20:05.57\00:20:10.31 Here, Paul is talking about several of his fellow laborers 00:20:10.57\00:20:14.14 in the gospel. 00:20:14.18\00:20:15.51 And he states the following... 00:20:15.58\00:20:17.85 So what does the book of life contain? 00:20:32.66\00:20:34.73 Not the actions. It contains what? 00:20:35.33\00:20:37.63 The names. 00:20:37.67\00:20:39.00 Notice Revelation 3:5. 00:20:39.03\00:20:41.37 Revelation 3:5 00:20:41.40\00:20:43.37 So once again, what does the book contain? 00:20:57.52\00:20:59.75 The book contains names. 00:20:59.92\00:21:02.52 Notice Revelation 13:8. 00:21:02.56\00:21:05.36 Revelation 13:8. 00:21:05.39\00:21:07.56 It's speaking about those who worship the beast. 00:21:07.83\00:21:10.27 It says... 00:21:10.30\00:21:11.63 Once again, what is written in the book? 00:21:22.51\00:21:24.71 Names are contained in the book. 00:21:24.91\00:21:27.22 You remember when Moses was on the mount that Israel 00:21:27.65\00:21:31.39 worshiped the golden calf? 00:21:31.42\00:21:33.12 And God said, "I'm going to wipe out these people. 00:21:33.56\00:21:35.79 I going to chose another nation." 00:21:35.82\00:21:37.33 You remember that Moses interceded before the Lord. 00:21:37.56\00:21:40.60 And notice what Moses had to say. 00:21:40.70\00:21:43.00 This is Exodus 32:31-33. 00:21:43.03\00:21:47.50 Moses is speaking to the Lord. 00:21:58.08\00:21:59.45 In other words, "Strike my name from Your book 00:22:09.19\00:22:11.63 if You cannot save these people." 00:22:11.66\00:22:13.96 One more text on the book itself. 00:22:14.30\00:22:17.97 Daniel 12:1 00:22:18.00\00:22:20.17 Daniel 12:1 is speaking about the deliverance of God's people 00:22:20.94\00:22:26.11 from the powers of the earth at the end of time. 00:22:26.14\00:22:28.51 It says there in Daniel 12:1... 00:22:28.98\00:22:31.28 They need to be delivered because according to 00:22:47.60\00:22:49.26 the previous verses the king of the north and his cohorts 00:22:49.30\00:22:52.33 wanted to obliterate them from the earth. 00:22:52.37\00:22:54.37 So it says, "...your people shall be delivered..." 00:22:54.40\00:22:57.71 So what does the book contain? 00:23:03.11\00:23:04.78 Names. 00:23:05.11\00:23:06.45 In the chronological order in which they received 00:23:06.48\00:23:09.35 Jesus Christ or claimed to receive Jesus Christ as Savior. 00:23:09.38\00:23:12.62 What is it that is contained in the books? 00:23:13.12\00:23:15.92 It is the biographical record. 00:23:16.22\00:23:18.49 An exact transcript of the life of the people. 00:23:18.53\00:23:22.20 Now we need to take a look at something 00:23:22.70\00:23:25.17 which is very, very important. 00:23:25.20\00:23:26.94 You know, Seventh-day Adventist evangelists, 00:23:27.30\00:23:29.37 when they preach about the state of the dead, 00:23:29.87\00:23:32.57 basically they say the spirit that returns to God 00:23:33.07\00:23:36.11 is simply the breath. 00:23:36.14\00:23:37.78 Now I believe that the spirit has to do with the breath, 00:23:38.18\00:23:41.08 but there's more to the spirit than just the breath. 00:23:41.28\00:23:44.85 And you're saying, "What are you talking about?" 00:23:45.12\00:23:47.36 You see, the spirit is the breath, but when God 00:23:47.89\00:23:52.96 returns the breath, if a person should die, 00:23:52.99\00:23:55.93 He's not only going to return the capacity to breathe, 00:23:56.16\00:24:00.34 He is going to return to that person who they were 00:24:00.54\00:24:03.81 while they were alive. 00:24:03.84\00:24:05.17 In other words, along with the breath of life 00:24:05.47\00:24:08.01 God is going to give them their biographical record. 00:24:08.04\00:24:10.31 Are you following me? 00:24:10.35\00:24:11.68 And that is the spirit. 00:24:11.71\00:24:13.05 The spirit is the breath, along with the identity 00:24:13.08\00:24:18.22 that the person formed during their life. 00:24:18.25\00:24:20.32 I want to prove that from Scripture and from 00:24:20.62\00:24:22.76 the spirit of prophecy. 00:24:22.79\00:24:24.13 You remember the daughter of Jairus. 00:24:24.76\00:24:27.56 She died and people were mourning her. 00:24:27.60\00:24:30.63 And I want you to notice the end of the story in Luke 8:52-56. 00:24:30.73\00:24:36.87 So was the little girl dead? 00:24:48.58\00:24:49.98 Clearly. 00:24:50.89\00:24:52.22 People knew she was dead. 00:24:52.25\00:24:53.59 In other words, "Little girl, resurrect." 00:25:00.60\00:25:02.73 Now sometimes, you know, my glasses don't allow me to 00:25:03.53\00:25:07.17 read things exactly the way they're written. 00:25:07.20\00:25:09.70 So if I read something wrong, you please correct me, okay? 00:25:09.74\00:25:12.07 So it says in verse 55, "Then the spirit returned..." 00:25:12.24\00:25:17.28 Is that what it says, "Then the spirit returned?" 00:25:18.81\00:25:21.08 No. A possessive pronoun is used. 00:25:21.58\00:25:25.52 "...her spirit returned..." 00:25:25.92\00:25:28.26 See, when she died she was hungry. 00:25:34.30\00:25:36.00 And so when she was resurrected she picked up 00:25:37.40\00:25:40.00 where she left off. 00:25:40.04\00:25:41.37 Why? 00:25:41.40\00:25:42.74 Because along with her breath, what was she given? 00:25:42.77\00:25:45.54 Her personal identity that she had while she was alive. 00:25:46.17\00:25:49.08 Are you following me or not? 00:25:49.11\00:25:50.45 Very important point. 00:25:50.48\00:25:51.81 Let me ask you, would it be kind of tragic if the Lord, 00:25:52.78\00:25:56.08 when He resurrected me, He only would give me the 00:25:56.18\00:25:58.22 capacity to breathe and wouldn't make me who I was 00:25:58.25\00:26:01.89 while I was alive? 00:26:01.92\00:26:03.26 That would be kind of funny, wouldn't it? 00:26:03.43\00:26:05.33 Imagine me receiving the breath of life and being Barney. 00:26:05.89\00:26:10.40 You say, "Now come on, wait a minute. 00:26:11.37\00:26:13.40 There's something incongruous here." 00:26:13.44\00:26:16.10 Now notice another example. 00:26:16.14\00:26:18.27 This is the stoning of Stephen, Acts 7:57-60. 00:26:18.74\00:26:23.28 It says, speaking about those who wanted to stone 00:26:23.71\00:26:26.38 and kill Stephen, it says... 00:26:26.41\00:26:27.75 "And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, 00:26:40.03\00:26:43.93 'Lord Jesus, receive the spirit.'" 00:26:43.97\00:26:47.60 No. He said, "Receive my spirit." 00:26:48.24\00:26:51.77 What is Stephen saying? 00:26:51.81\00:26:53.14 He's saying, "Preserve my self-identity. 00:26:53.17\00:26:56.64 Keep the record, Lord." 00:26:56.68\00:26:58.65 Verse 60... 00:26:59.55\00:27:00.88 Once again, the possessive pronoun. 00:27:09.19\00:27:11.33 "My spirit." 00:27:11.59\00:27:13.09 Notice the third example, Luke 23:46. 00:27:13.13\00:27:16.90 This is referring to the death of Jesus on the cross. 00:27:17.10\00:27:19.97 It says there... 00:27:20.37\00:27:21.70 "...into Your hands I commit the spirit." 00:27:26.91\00:27:29.91 It does not say, "the spirit." 00:27:30.38\00:27:32.11 It's a possessive pronoun. 00:27:32.15\00:27:33.78 What was Jesus saying to His Father, 00:27:40.16\00:27:42.29 "into Your hands I commit My spirit"? 00:27:42.32\00:27:43.89 He was saying, "Father, preserve My identity. 00:27:43.93\00:27:46.09 Because You promised that You were going to..." What? 00:27:46.13\00:27:48.03 "...that You were going to resurrect Me." 00:27:48.23\00:27:50.07 When Jesus resurrected, was it still Jesus? 00:27:50.60\00:27:52.87 Could He remember His disciples? 00:27:53.44\00:27:55.10 Did He remember where He had been? 00:27:55.40\00:27:57.31 Did He remember that Peter had betrayed Him? 00:27:57.64\00:27:59.87 Did He remember that Judas had betrayed Him as well? 00:27:59.97\00:28:04.51 Yeah. He knew all of those things. Why? 00:28:04.91\00:28:06.65 Because along with His breath, what was given to Him? 00:28:06.78\00:28:09.88 His personal self-identity which was preserved or kept in heaven. 00:28:10.35\00:28:14.92 Now allow me to read you an extraordinary statement 00:28:15.42\00:28:17.86 written by Ellen White. 00:28:17.89\00:28:19.23 The little lady knew this. 00:28:19.39\00:28:21.13 She had only two and a half years of primary education, 00:28:21.60\00:28:24.30 and yet she knew this very clearly. 00:28:24.80\00:28:26.67 This is found in the book, Maranatha, 00:28:26.70\00:28:28.67 a devotional book, page 301. 00:28:28.77\00:28:31.01 What is preserved in the resurrection? 00:28:36.04\00:28:37.78 Our personal identity. 00:28:37.98\00:28:39.78 Then she says... 00:28:40.02\00:28:41.35 God doesn't have to return to us the identical 00:28:46.29\00:28:49.02 particles of dust that composed our body. 00:28:49.06\00:28:51.33 She continues saying... 00:28:51.73\00:28:53.06 What is it that God preserves? Our character. 00:29:07.21\00:29:09.44 Who we are, she's saying. 00:29:09.48\00:29:11.71 And she calls it, the spirit. 00:29:11.75\00:29:13.85 She continues saying in this statement... 00:29:14.28\00:29:17.75 A perfect body, by the way. 00:30:00.73\00:30:02.73 In fact, on the same page 301 of the book, Maranatha, 00:30:03.47\00:30:06.80 Ellen White explains, "Paul illustrates this subject..." 00:30:07.10\00:30:10.67 Of the new body that God is going to give us. 00:30:11.54\00:30:14.51 Now we can understand a little bit better Job 19:25-27. 00:30:48.24\00:30:53.48 I use to wonder about this. 00:30:53.52\00:30:54.85 It sounded kind of selfish on the part of Job, 00:30:54.88\00:30:57.72 what he was saying. 00:30:57.75\00:30:59.09 But now I understand why he used all these personal pronouns. 00:30:59.12\00:31:01.96 He says in Job 19:25-27... 00:31:02.52\00:31:05.16 So nobody else is going to see Jesus 00:31:24.58\00:31:26.21 when He comes, according to Job. 00:31:26.25\00:31:27.58 He says, "My eyes are going to see Him, and no one else." 00:31:27.62\00:31:30.42 You know what he's really saying? 00:31:30.52\00:31:31.85 He's really saying, "It's going to be me 00:31:31.89\00:31:34.16 that is going to see Him. 00:31:34.19\00:31:35.52 It's not going to be somebody else. 00:31:35.56\00:31:37.23 Because God is going to return to me..." What? 00:31:37.36\00:31:39.86 "...the identity that I had while I was..." What? 00:31:40.20\00:31:43.70 "...while I was alive." 00:31:43.80\00:31:45.13 Are you understanding this? 00:31:45.17\00:31:46.53 So how do people appear before the judgment seat of Christ? 00:31:46.94\00:31:49.87 Do they appear there personally beginning in 1844? 00:31:49.90\00:31:52.64 No. 00:31:52.67\00:31:54.01 They appear there through their what? 00:31:54.04\00:31:55.78 Through their records. 00:31:55.98\00:31:57.31 Does this have anything to do with the state of the dead? 00:31:57.35\00:31:59.81 It's a total contradiction of the concept that the 00:32:01.08\00:32:05.22 Christian world has of the state of the dead. 00:32:05.25\00:32:07.06 Because if you believe that people go to heaven or to hell, 00:32:07.56\00:32:10.29 then you can never believe that the judgment began 00:32:10.83\00:32:13.09 at a certain point. 00:32:13.13\00:32:14.46 Because when people die is when they receive their reward. 00:32:14.50\00:32:17.13 Are you following me or not? 00:32:17.17\00:32:18.50 So if you believe that the judgment begins at a 00:32:18.67\00:32:20.94 certain point, and God begins to judge beginning with Adam 00:32:20.97\00:32:25.17 through the course of history, and people are in their graves, 00:32:25.21\00:32:28.08 then it must be that people are being judged 00:32:28.18\00:32:30.51 by the record of their lives and not because 00:32:30.55\00:32:33.42 they are there personally. 00:32:33.45\00:32:34.88 And then when Jesus comes, He will give the reward 00:32:34.92\00:32:37.55 personally depending on what was revealed in the books. 00:32:37.72\00:32:41.52 Are you following me or not? 00:32:41.56\00:32:42.89 It's actually very simple. 00:32:42.92\00:32:44.29 Now there's another point that I want us to notice 00:32:44.89\00:32:46.83 about the judgment. 00:32:46.86\00:32:48.20 Sometimes we emphasize so much what the high priest 00:32:48.56\00:32:53.57 did in the Most Holy Place on the Day of Atonement 00:32:53.60\00:32:56.60 that we forget that there was a response that was expected 00:32:57.24\00:33:01.64 by the people outside the Sanctuary. 00:33:01.68\00:33:04.15 We virtually ignore what the people had to be doing 00:33:05.08\00:33:09.08 on the Day of Atonement because we're so intent on 00:33:09.12\00:33:11.95 saying that Jesus is in heaven, He's cleansing the heavenly 00:33:11.99\00:33:15.62 Sanctuary from the sins of the people. 00:33:15.66\00:33:19.03 Ellen White, in the book, Great Controversy, page 425, 00:33:19.43\00:33:23.47 had this to say... 00:33:23.57\00:33:24.90 There is to be a parallel work here. 00:33:45.25\00:33:47.39 While Jesus is cleansing the heavenly Sanctuary 00:33:47.66\00:33:50.73 from the sins of the people, the people on earth should be 00:33:50.76\00:33:54.30 cleansing their lives from sin. 00:33:54.33\00:33:56.83 The soul temple from sin, if you please. 00:33:56.87\00:34:00.04 Let's read in Leviticus 23:27-32 what the people were suppose 00:34:00.37\00:34:06.81 to do on the Day of Atonement. 00:34:06.84\00:34:08.41 We're not talking now about the work of the high priest 00:34:08.71\00:34:10.91 in the Most Holy Place. 00:34:10.95\00:34:12.28 He would examine the records, in figure. 00:34:12.31\00:34:14.68 And then he would cleanse the Sanctuary from the 00:34:14.72\00:34:16.79 sins of the people. 00:34:16.82\00:34:18.15 Now we're going to take a look at what the people 00:34:18.19\00:34:19.92 were expected to do. 00:34:19.95\00:34:21.29 Once again, Leviticus 23 and beginning with verse 27. 00:34:21.76\00:34:25.33 Everybody was expected to gather around the Sanctuary 00:34:32.43\00:34:35.27 and to focus their minds on what the high priest was doing. 00:34:35.54\00:34:38.31 That's why the high priest had bells around the 00:34:38.51\00:34:40.84 the bottom of his garment. 00:34:40.88\00:34:42.21 So that people could follow him. 00:34:42.24\00:34:43.58 So that people knew what he was doing at any given moment. 00:34:43.61\00:34:47.05 It continues saying, "...you shall afflict your souls..." 00:34:47.28\00:34:51.25 Beat your chest because of your sins, in other words. 00:34:51.52\00:34:54.22 Because of they were working, they could not concentrate 00:35:02.86\00:35:04.93 on what was happening in the Sanctuary. 00:35:04.97\00:35:06.84 It was a day in which they were to be focused 00:35:06.87\00:35:09.10 on what the high priest was doing. 00:35:09.14\00:35:10.57 He was going to cleanse the Sanctuary from sin. 00:35:10.61\00:35:13.04 And so the time was coming when they could not continue 00:35:13.14\00:35:16.04 putting sin into the Sanctuary. 00:35:16.08\00:35:17.85 It continues saying here in the book of Leviticus, verse 28... 00:35:18.58\00:35:21.88 So what were they suppose to do? 00:36:00.26\00:36:01.99 They were suppose to, first of all, afflict their souls. 00:36:02.39\00:36:07.50 They were to fast. 00:36:08.20\00:36:09.66 They were to congregate and focus on what was happening 00:36:10.23\00:36:13.87 in the Sanctuary. 00:36:13.90\00:36:15.34 They were to be searching their lives to see if their lives 00:36:15.37\00:36:19.21 had sin that had not entered into the Sanctuary, 00:36:19.24\00:36:22.58 and therefore could not be cleansed from the Sanctuary. 00:36:22.61\00:36:26.35 It's interesting to notice that this festival was announced 00:36:27.25\00:36:32.15 by the sound of trumpets. 00:36:32.19\00:36:33.52 I'm going to give several characteristics now, 00:36:33.56\00:36:35.19 because we're going to go to another passage in a moment. 00:36:35.22\00:36:37.79 The Day of Atonement was announced by 00:36:38.09\00:36:41.46 the blowing of trumpets so that everybody would prepare 00:36:41.50\00:36:44.63 for the Day of Atonement. 00:36:44.67\00:36:46.00 As I mentioned, while the high priest was purifying 00:36:46.20\00:36:49.14 the Sanctuary or cleansing the Sanctuary from the sins 00:36:49.17\00:36:52.57 of the people, the people were suppose to be gathered outside 00:36:52.61\00:36:56.61 afflicting their souls and doing all in their power 00:36:56.64\00:37:02.18 that God had given them to overcome sin. 00:37:02.22\00:37:05.39 Also, they were suppose to fast. 00:37:05.65\00:37:08.22 You say, "Well, do we fast since 1844?" 00:37:08.69\00:37:11.73 Well, we'd all be dead if we were fasting since 1844. 00:37:11.93\00:37:14.93 We need to understand what fasting is. 00:37:15.13\00:37:17.37 The Bible defines fasting in two ways. 00:37:17.87\00:37:20.27 Medical Ministry, page 283, Ellen White explains... 00:37:20.94\00:37:24.64 That's the true fast. 00:37:37.65\00:37:39.05 So in other words, health reform is the true fast. 00:37:39.22\00:37:42.66 Another definition that the Bible gives of fasting 00:37:43.22\00:37:45.59 is that we take our clothing and we take our food 00:37:45.63\00:37:49.10 to feed those who are in need. 00:37:49.13\00:37:51.00 Notice Isaiah 58:6-7. 00:37:51.17\00:37:53.70 God speaking to Israel. 00:37:54.10\00:37:55.74 In other words, fasting is practical Christianity. 00:38:20.40\00:38:24.30 It's practicing healthful living, according to 00:38:24.33\00:38:27.47 Scripture and the spirit of prophecy. 00:38:27.50\00:38:29.74 So it doesn't mean that we have to abstain from 00:38:29.94\00:38:33.17 foods since 1844 when we understand what fasting is. 00:38:33.21\00:38:38.18 Now we also noticed that Israel was suppose to 00:38:38.61\00:38:41.02 abstain from work. 00:38:41.05\00:38:42.38 Does that mean that we don't have to work from 1844 forward? 00:38:42.42\00:38:45.55 Some people would like that, but that's not what it means. 00:38:45.59\00:38:48.19 The reason why they were not suppose to work 00:38:48.22\00:38:50.16 is because nothing was to interfere with there having 00:38:50.33\00:38:53.90 their minds focused on what was happening in the Sanctuary. 00:38:53.93\00:38:57.17 And therefore, anything today that distracts us 00:38:57.20\00:39:00.07 from what is taking place in the Most Holy Place 00:39:00.10\00:39:02.54 of the heavenly Sanctuary we should discard and do away with. 00:39:02.57\00:39:06.21 Because our mind should be in there with Jesus, 00:39:06.54\00:39:09.48 knowing that He's cleansing the Sanctuary 00:39:09.51\00:39:12.11 from the record of sin. 00:39:12.15\00:39:13.48 And therefore, through His grace and power 00:39:13.52\00:39:15.78 we should be doing a parallel work 00:39:15.88\00:39:18.05 through the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome sin 00:39:18.15\00:39:21.02 in our lives. 00:39:21.06\00:39:22.39 Incidentally, you noticed that people who did not sympathize 00:39:22.42\00:39:26.43 on the Day of Atonement with what was happening 00:39:26.63\00:39:29.06 in the Sanctuary, the Bible says that they would be cut off 00:39:29.10\00:39:33.10 and destroyed from among the people. 00:39:33.30\00:39:35.80 How serious is it then that God's people be doing this 00:39:36.71\00:39:41.41 during the Day of Atonement? 00:39:41.61\00:39:43.38 You know, you have Adventist churches today 00:39:43.61\00:39:45.61 that think that the worship service should be 00:39:45.71\00:39:47.98 jumping up and down, and rolling in the aisles, 00:39:48.02\00:39:50.22 and laughing, and shouting, and having drums, and 00:39:50.25\00:39:53.25 dancing in church, and everything, you know, 00:39:53.29\00:39:55.69 because we should be filled with joy and with happiness. 00:39:55.72\00:39:58.19 I'm not saying that we shouldn't be joyful. 00:39:58.23\00:40:00.36 What I'm saying is that the Day of Atonement 00:40:00.90\00:40:02.76 is a day of affliction. 00:40:02.80\00:40:04.13 It's a day of fasting. 00:40:04.30\00:40:05.67 It's a day of soul searching. 00:40:05.83\00:40:07.94 It's a day to focus on the cleansing of the Sanctuary. 00:40:08.04\00:40:11.17 Following Jesus by faith and overcoming sin in the life. 00:40:11.21\00:40:15.34 Does God expect victory over sin from His people 00:40:16.51\00:40:19.91 in the end time generation? 00:40:19.95\00:40:21.45 Notice Revelation 6. 00:40:22.02\00:40:24.59 I'm not going to read verses 14-17, 00:40:24.82\00:40:27.06 I'm only going to read verse 17. 00:40:27.09\00:40:29.06 But verse 14 through verse 16 is describing the second coming 00:40:29.19\00:40:33.70 of Jesus Christ. 00:40:33.73\00:40:35.06 And I want you to notice that after describing 00:40:35.33\00:40:37.47 the second coming, a solemn question is asked. 00:40:37.50\00:40:40.60 That's found in verse 17. 00:40:41.10\00:40:42.74 So the question is, when Jesus comes, 00:40:51.11\00:40:53.21 who shall be able to stand? 00:40:53.25\00:40:55.62 Where would you expect to find the answer to that question? 00:40:56.45\00:40:59.22 How about in the very next chapter? 00:40:59.25\00:41:00.72 Do you think that would be a good place to look? 00:41:00.76\00:41:02.29 You look in the very next verse, it speaks about the sealing 00:41:03.02\00:41:06.53 of the 144,000. 00:41:06.90\00:41:08.73 The 144,000 are those who will be alive when Jesus comes. 00:41:09.10\00:41:13.47 They are the ones who are going to 00:41:13.74\00:41:15.20 go through the time of trouble. 00:41:15.24\00:41:16.57 They are the ones who will live on the earth 00:41:17.04\00:41:19.04 without an Intercessor. 00:41:19.07\00:41:20.44 They will be the ones who will be subjects of a death decree. 00:41:20.81\00:41:24.81 They will be individuals who will suffer the anguish 00:41:25.81\00:41:29.58 of the time of Jacob's trouble. 00:41:29.62\00:41:31.25 And the question is, when Jesus comes, 00:41:32.45\00:41:34.62 who shall be able to stand? 00:41:34.72\00:41:36.56 The answer is, the living saints, the 144,000, 00:41:36.76\00:41:41.03 will be able to stand. 00:41:41.13\00:41:43.06 Now, Revelation 7 does not give us the characteristics 00:41:43.50\00:41:47.70 of the 144,000. 00:41:47.74\00:41:49.10 It says that they are sealed before the winds of strife 00:41:49.14\00:41:52.54 are released and the tribulation comes. 00:41:52.57\00:41:54.44 But Revelation 14 gives us their character qualities. 00:41:54.71\00:41:58.25 I'll mention only four of them. 00:41:58.48\00:42:00.32 You can read the whole passage; Revelation 14:1-5. 00:42:00.35\00:42:03.15 They follow the Lamb wherever He goes. 00:42:03.45\00:42:07.26 They were not defiled with women. 00:42:08.12\00:42:10.43 That doesn't mean that they didn't get married, 00:42:10.53\00:42:12.13 because marriage doesn't defile you. 00:42:12.16\00:42:13.76 Unless you commit adultery. 00:42:14.06\00:42:15.40 Then that defiles. 00:42:16.26\00:42:17.67 In other words, they did not have illicit relations 00:42:17.90\00:42:20.07 with the apostate churches. 00:42:20.10\00:42:21.74 Because women represent what? 00:42:21.94\00:42:23.54 Harlots represent apostate churches. 00:42:23.94\00:42:26.91 We are also told that there is not deceit in their mouths. 00:42:27.78\00:42:31.01 So if there is no deceit in their mouths, 00:42:31.05\00:42:32.58 is there any deceit in their hearts? 00:42:32.61\00:42:34.38 No, because from the abundance of the heart 00:42:34.58\00:42:36.65 the mouth speaks, according to the Bible. 00:42:36.99\00:42:39.19 And we are told there that they are without fault 00:42:39.59\00:42:43.86 before the throne of God. 00:42:43.96\00:42:46.56 They will be totally victorious over sin. 00:42:47.40\00:42:50.43 Because they will have followed Jesus into the Most Holy Place 00:42:50.57\00:42:53.77 of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:42:53.80\00:42:55.20 They will have gained totally the victory. 00:42:55.47\00:42:57.31 And therefore, in the great day of God's wrath 00:42:57.34\00:43:00.64 they will be able to stand. 00:43:00.84\00:43:04.25 By the way, do you know that this is not the only time 00:43:04.68\00:43:06.95 that this question is asked: "The great day of His wrath 00:43:06.98\00:43:10.05 is come, who shall be able to stand?" 00:43:10.09\00:43:12.45 If you read Joel 2:1-10, you find a description 00:43:12.82\00:43:18.36 of the second coming of Jesus Christ. 00:43:18.39\00:43:20.00 I wish we had time to read those ten verses, but we don't. 00:43:20.03\00:43:23.13 But you can read them at leisure. 00:43:23.16\00:43:24.83 The first ten verses of Joel 2 describe the 00:43:24.87\00:43:27.44 second coming of Christ. 00:43:27.47\00:43:28.80 And then you come to verse 11, which is the culmination 00:43:28.87\00:43:32.81 of this passage regarding the second coming. 00:43:32.84\00:43:35.88 And it says there in verse 11... 00:43:36.04\00:43:37.65 Remember in Revelation 19 it says that the armies 00:43:42.65\00:43:44.85 of heaven follow Jesus when He comes on white horses? 00:43:44.89\00:43:47.29 Well that is what this is referring to. 00:43:47.32\00:43:49.26 And then notice the question. 00:43:57.90\00:43:59.43 Is that a similar question to Revelation 6:17? 00:44:07.18\00:44:10.18 Yes, very similar. 00:44:10.55\00:44:11.88 Where would you expect to find the answer 00:44:11.91\00:44:13.92 to that question in verse 11? 00:44:13.95\00:44:15.48 How about verses 12 and 17? 00:44:15.58\00:44:17.42 Now we don't have time to read those verses. 00:44:18.19\00:44:20.29 But I'll give you a summary of what those verses contain. 00:44:20.69\00:44:23.59 They contain everything relating to the Day of Atonement. 00:44:24.16\00:44:27.30 For example, they contain the sound of trumpets 00:44:27.76\00:44:33.10 which sounded before the Day of Atonement. 00:44:33.54\00:44:35.67 It says there that it was a convocation. 00:44:36.20\00:44:38.97 People needed to gather around the Sanctuary, 00:44:39.01\00:44:41.54 there it says in Joel. 00:44:41.58\00:44:42.91 It speaks about God's people returning to God with all their 00:44:43.45\00:44:48.35 hearts, with fasting and weeping and mourning. 00:44:48.38\00:44:52.12 Does that sound like the Day of Atonement? 00:44:52.15\00:44:53.76 Absolutely. 00:44:53.99\00:44:55.32 It says that they should rend their hearts 00:44:55.42\00:44:58.13 and not their garments. 00:44:58.29\00:44:59.73 We're told there that an assembly, a fast, 00:45:00.26\00:45:03.20 should be called. 00:45:03.23\00:45:04.57 The assembly should be sanctified. 00:45:04.63\00:45:07.40 It also tells us that the ministers should weep 00:45:07.97\00:45:11.17 between the porch and the altar, saying, 00:45:11.21\00:45:13.27 "Lord, spare Your people." 00:45:13.38\00:45:15.41 It's parallel to Ezekiel 9 where it speaks about those who 00:45:15.58\00:45:20.05 sign and cry because of the abominations 00:45:20.08\00:45:22.95 that are being done in the earth. 00:45:22.98\00:45:24.45 That's what ministers should be doing today; 00:45:24.49\00:45:26.59 sighing and crying because of the abominations 00:45:26.76\00:45:29.56 that are being committed among God's people. 00:45:29.66\00:45:31.99 So the question is, once again, in Joel 2:11, 00:45:32.03\00:45:34.76 "For the day of the Lord is great and very terrible. 00:45:34.96\00:45:37.57 Who can endure it?" 00:45:37.60\00:45:38.93 The following verses tell us it is those who experience 00:45:38.97\00:45:43.00 the Day of Atonement. 00:45:43.04\00:45:44.44 Those who go through the steps that are spoken of 00:45:44.74\00:45:47.78 in Leviticus 23. 00:45:47.81\00:45:50.08 By the way, these are not the only two passages 00:45:50.51\00:45:52.95 where you find this question. 00:45:53.05\00:45:55.58 Let's notice a few other passages that have 00:45:55.62\00:45:58.35 the same question. 00:45:58.39\00:45:59.72 Psalm 15 00:45:59.75\00:46:01.39 Notice how Psalm 15 begins. 00:46:02.02\00:46:04.09 That's the Sanctuary, right? 00:46:08.16\00:46:09.90 And then a second question. 00:46:12.90\00:46:14.24 What is God's holy hill? 00:46:16.81\00:46:18.17 Zion. 00:46:18.91\00:46:20.24 Where do the 144,000 stand, 00:46:20.28\00:46:21.64 according to the book of Revelation? 00:46:21.68\00:46:23.01 Zion. 00:46:23.04\00:46:24.38 Where do they serve God? 00:46:24.41\00:46:25.75 In His temple day and night, right? 00:46:25.78\00:46:27.12 So is there any connection here? Absolutely. 00:46:27.15\00:46:28.92 Now notice the answer. 00:46:29.18\00:46:30.72 The answer has to do with your lifestyle. 00:46:30.75\00:46:32.65 You say, "Well, Pastor Bohr, you're saying then that 00:46:32.79\00:46:34.49 we're saved by our lifestyle." 00:46:34.52\00:46:35.86 No, no. What I'm saying is, you're saved because 00:46:35.89\00:46:38.19 your mind is with Jesus in the Most Holy Place 00:46:38.23\00:46:40.76 of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:46:40.80\00:46:42.13 And because of that you're seeing His perfection 00:46:42.70\00:46:44.67 and His holiness, how much sin costs. 00:46:44.70\00:46:47.14 And by His grace you're overcoming sin in your life 00:46:47.24\00:46:50.04 because your mind is focused there. 00:46:50.07\00:46:52.14 Are you following me or not? 00:46:52.17\00:46:53.51 Now notice what the answer is. 00:46:54.14\00:46:56.48 It has to do with our conduct. 00:46:56.51\00:46:58.65 It says there in verse 2... 00:46:58.95\00:47:00.32 Who shall be able to stand? 00:47:33.55\00:47:35.28 This kind of person shall never be moved. 00:47:35.65\00:47:37.92 Are you seeing the connection or not? 00:47:37.95\00:47:39.95 Does this have anything to do with our lifestyle? 00:47:40.36\00:47:43.39 It most certainly does. 00:47:43.66\00:47:44.99 The lifestyle does not save us, but our lifestyle shows 00:47:45.03\00:47:48.60 our connection to Jesus. 00:47:48.63\00:47:50.53 Notice another place where the question is asked. 00:47:51.17\00:47:53.34 Isaiah 33:14-16 00:47:53.37\00:47:56.07 All of these are describing the second coming of Jesus. 00:47:56.10\00:47:58.57 And the question is, who will be able to stand? 00:47:58.77\00:48:00.54 Who will be able to live with the Lord? 00:48:00.58\00:48:03.61 Isaiah 33:14-16 00:48:03.65\00:48:06.48 Do you know what most Christian churches would answer? 00:48:22.86\00:48:25.60 "Oh, it's the wicked that are going to be 00:48:25.63\00:48:27.00 in the everlasting burnings." 00:48:27.04\00:48:28.54 That's not what the Bible teaches. 00:48:29.00\00:48:30.44 See, the wicked could never live with the devouring fire 00:48:30.91\00:48:34.18 and the everlasting burnings 00:48:34.21\00:48:35.54 because the fire would burn them up. 00:48:35.58\00:48:37.55 But here it says the righteous will live 00:48:38.38\00:48:40.52 in the presence of the fire. 00:48:40.55\00:48:41.88 And now I want you to notice why? 00:48:41.98\00:48:43.89 Verse 15 has the answer. 00:48:43.92\00:48:46.12 That's Mount Zion, by the way. 00:49:05.77\00:49:07.11 Are you catching the picture? 00:49:15.15\00:49:16.48 Ah, I want to share one more place 00:49:16.69\00:49:18.55 where the question is asked. 00:49:18.59\00:49:20.09 Psalm 24:3-6 00:49:20.12\00:49:22.89 This is the psalm of the ascension of Christ, 00:49:23.09\00:49:25.36 but it also is the song that is going to be sung 00:49:25.39\00:49:27.70 when Jesus comes to take His people home. 00:49:27.73\00:49:30.03 Notice Psalm 24:3. 00:49:30.27\00:49:32.67 That's Mount Zion, right? 00:49:35.94\00:49:37.27 Notice the answer. 00:49:40.94\00:49:42.28 Are you catching the picture? 00:50:01.30\00:50:02.66 Will the end time generation be totally victorious over sin 00:50:03.06\00:50:06.74 in action and in thought? 00:50:06.77\00:50:08.44 Yes. And you say, "It's impossible." 00:50:08.47\00:50:10.84 Then you're saying that your sin is more powerful than God. 00:50:10.87\00:50:14.44 No. 00:50:14.74\00:50:16.08 See, people say, "Well you know, we have a sinful nature. 00:50:16.11\00:50:18.61 We have a sinful nature that sins, so it's not possible 00:50:19.05\00:50:21.58 to stop sinning before Jesus comes." 00:50:21.62\00:50:23.39 You're not really saying that man has a weak sinful nature. 00:50:23.42\00:50:27.36 What you're saying is that God is not powerful enough 00:50:27.39\00:50:30.03 to give you the victory over your sinful nature. 00:50:30.06\00:50:32.53 You're limiting the power of God, is what you're doing. 00:50:32.89\00:50:36.26 Great Controversy, page 623. 00:50:36.60\00:50:39.03 Ellen White makes this remarkable statement. 00:50:39.27\00:50:41.10 And you know, those who don't believe that the victory 00:50:41.14\00:50:43.94 over sin can be gained before Jesus comes, 00:50:43.97\00:50:45.91 they cringe when they read this statement. 00:50:45.94\00:50:48.38 Great Controversy, 623. 00:50:48.41\00:50:50.21 Not even by a thought. 00:51:08.13\00:51:09.46 Now listen carefully. 00:51:27.62\00:51:28.95 And now comes the amazing conclusion. 00:51:43.43\00:51:45.33 Not even by a sinful what? 00:51:53.78\00:51:56.08 By a sinful thought, according to the spirit of prophecy. 00:51:56.28\00:52:00.18 You say, "That's impossible." 00:52:00.22\00:52:01.55 No, it's not impossible if we meet the conditions. 00:52:01.58\00:52:04.65 If we behold the perfection of Christ 00:52:04.92\00:52:07.49 and stop looking at all that garbage that we see everywhere, 00:52:07.76\00:52:12.69 and stop listening to all the garbage that we listen to. 00:52:12.86\00:52:16.06 If we focus on Jesus, His perfection, and what sin cost, 00:52:16.10\00:52:19.77 the pain that it causes, then we can gain victory over sin. 00:52:19.80\00:52:24.21 Now allow me to mention one more thing as we close. 00:52:24.67\00:52:28.41 And that is, that the distinctive beliefs of the 00:52:28.68\00:52:32.11 Seventh-day Adventist Church are centered in the Most Holy Place. 00:52:32.15\00:52:35.72 The very doctrines that the Christian world despises 00:52:37.15\00:52:40.86 are found in the Most Holy Place. 00:52:40.89\00:52:42.29 And do you know why? 00:52:42.32\00:52:43.66 Because they have not entered the Most Holy Place with Jesus. 00:52:43.69\00:52:46.90 Let's review these. 00:52:47.46\00:52:48.80 Let me ask you, where is the law of God 00:52:50.00\00:52:53.70 to be found in the Sanctuary? 00:52:53.74\00:52:55.44 It is found in the Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:52:55.87\00:53:00.11 Let me ask you, what is at the very center of the law? 00:53:01.48\00:53:05.25 The seal. 00:53:05.95\00:53:07.28 The Sabbath is at the center of the law. 00:53:07.32\00:53:10.12 By the way, did God give the Sabbath to Israel as a test? 00:53:11.75\00:53:17.59 Yes. 00:53:18.26\00:53:19.59 Do you know that in the ark in heaven there is a pot 00:53:19.86\00:53:22.16 that contains manna? 00:53:22.20\00:53:23.53 Perhaps God is trying to tell us that the Sabbath in the end time 00:53:24.33\00:53:27.94 will not only be one of God's commandments, 00:53:27.97\00:53:30.41 but the Sabbath is going to be a what? 00:53:30.44\00:53:32.94 A test to see if God's people will walk in His what? 00:53:33.24\00:53:37.18 In His law, as it says in Exodus 16. 00:53:37.21\00:53:39.65 Ellen White says that the Sabbath will be a 00:53:39.68\00:53:41.48 test at the end of time. 00:53:41.52\00:53:42.85 There you have the manna in the ark of the covenant 00:53:42.88\00:53:45.12 in the Most Holy Place, which is a symbol of the 00:53:45.15\00:53:48.39 Sabbath as a test. 00:53:48.42\00:53:51.46 Is a healthful diet revealed in the Sanctuary? 00:53:53.40\00:53:56.50 The pot of manna also teaches healthful living, doesn't it? 00:53:58.17\00:54:01.00 You remember in Numbers 11 the experience of Israel? 00:54:01.40\00:54:04.37 They were tired of eating manna. 00:54:04.57\00:54:06.24 This vegan food. 00:54:06.27\00:54:07.64 They said, "Blah." 00:54:08.48\00:54:09.81 You know, "We remember all the rich delicious food in Egypt. 00:54:10.18\00:54:13.21 You know, all the fleshpots and all this rich food. 00:54:13.25\00:54:16.42 And we just wish we could have that food instead of having 00:54:16.45\00:54:18.79 this simple diet that God has given us." 00:54:18.82\00:54:20.96 And what happened? 00:54:21.09\00:54:22.42 They got sick and they died. 00:54:22.46\00:54:24.69 Is God trying to teach health reform in the Most Holy Place 00:54:24.93\00:54:28.66 of the Sanctuary? 00:54:28.70\00:54:30.03 He most certainly is. 00:54:30.07\00:54:31.40 Let me ask you, does the Most Holy Place 00:54:31.43\00:54:32.93 have anything to say about the judgment? 00:54:32.97\00:54:35.94 Of course. 00:54:36.07\00:54:37.41 It's done in the Most Holy Place. 00:54:37.44\00:54:38.77 Does it have anything to say about the state of the dead? 00:54:38.81\00:54:41.34 We've noticed that, folks. 00:54:41.94\00:54:43.28 Listen carefully. 00:54:43.31\00:54:44.65 If Adam was the first to be judged in 1844, 00:54:44.78\00:54:49.98 then He's not in heaven. 00:54:50.35\00:54:52.19 Are you following me? 00:54:53.25\00:54:54.59 If in 1844 it begins with Adam and it goes through all of the 00:54:54.76\00:54:58.86 succeeding generations, where are the dead? 00:54:58.89\00:55:01.63 The dead are in their graves. 00:55:02.03\00:55:03.60 How are they judged? 00:55:03.63\00:55:04.97 Through their records. 00:55:05.00\00:55:06.70 When will they go to heaven? 00:55:07.14\00:55:08.54 When Jesus comes. 00:55:08.74\00:55:10.07 Are you following me? 00:55:10.34\00:55:11.67 So does a correct concept of the judgment 00:55:11.71\00:55:14.31 gives us a correct concept of the state of the dead? 00:55:14.41\00:55:17.31 Absolutely it does. 00:55:17.61\00:55:19.31 And of course, God also wanted to teach 00:55:19.35\00:55:21.72 this issue of the state of the dead through Aaron's rod 00:55:21.75\00:55:27.06 that miraculously sprouted to life though it was dead. 00:55:27.16\00:55:30.89 By a miracle of God it sprouted to life. 00:55:31.16\00:55:33.46 Just like Jesus says, "Though you are dead, 00:55:33.50\00:55:36.20 yet you shall..." What? 00:55:36.40\00:55:37.93 "...you shall live by a miracle of God." 00:55:37.97\00:55:40.27 Now let me ask you, what does the Christian world 00:55:40.94\00:55:44.27 have to say about God's law? 00:55:44.31\00:55:45.91 "Oh, it was nailed to the cross." 00:55:47.34\00:55:49.44 Yeah. 00:55:50.41\00:55:51.75 "You know, Christ kept the law for us." 00:55:51.78\00:55:54.95 "You know, we're not under law, we're..." What? 00:55:56.32\00:55:58.89 "...we're under grace." 00:55:58.92\00:56:00.26 "We don't live by the letter, we live by the spirit." 00:56:00.29\00:56:03.63 The law is despised. 00:56:04.49\00:56:06.19 What does the Christian world say about the Sabbath? 00:56:06.83\00:56:09.23 "Oh, the Sabbath was for the Jews." 00:56:09.66\00:56:11.90 "The Sabbath is a legalistic day." 00:56:12.30\00:56:14.44 "We keep Sunday in honor of the resurrection." 00:56:15.04\00:56:17.27 If their minds were in the Most Holy Place, 00:56:17.37\00:56:19.51 which day would they be keeping? 00:56:19.54\00:56:20.91 The Sabbath, because they would see that the earthly Sanctuary 00:56:21.11\00:56:23.98 was a copy of the heavenly. 00:56:24.01\00:56:25.38 The ark of the covenant on earth had the law on the Sabbath, 00:56:25.91\00:56:28.75 therefore the ark of the covenant in heaven, 00:56:28.98\00:56:30.85 which Revelation 11:19 says is there, also must have the law. 00:56:31.12\00:56:35.22 And it also must contain what? 00:56:35.26\00:56:37.39 The Sabbath. 00:56:37.43\00:56:38.76 What does the Christian world say about healthful living? 00:56:38.79\00:56:41.03 They say, you know, "The only thing you have to do 00:56:41.76\00:56:44.10 for your pork chops to be blessed is simply to say 00:56:44.13\00:56:47.57 a little prayer." 00:56:47.60\00:56:48.94 And so the unclean pork chop suddenly will become clean 00:56:49.07\00:56:52.57 by a miracle of God. 00:56:52.61\00:56:53.94 And they use like the experience of, 00:56:54.98\00:56:57.68 "Arise. Kill and eat." 00:56:57.71\00:56:59.21 You know, and they use text outside of the 00:56:59.25\00:57:02.28 context of Scripture to defend the idea of eating 00:57:02.32\00:57:05.49 anything and everything. 00:57:05.52\00:57:06.89 What does the Christian world say about the state of the dead? 00:57:07.19\00:57:09.89 Oh they say, the state of the dead simply means that when 00:57:10.19\00:57:12.86 a person dies, if they were good they go to heaven, 00:57:12.89\00:57:15.10 and if they were bad they go straight to hell. 00:57:15.20\00:57:17.53 Are you following me or not? 00:57:18.93\00:57:20.27 What does the Christian world have to say about 00:57:20.77\00:57:23.81 all of these things? 00:57:23.84\00:57:25.17 They're totally opposed to the distinctive doctrines of the 00:57:25.84\00:57:29.64 Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:57:29.68\00:57:31.01 because they have refused to what? 00:57:31.05\00:57:33.18 To enter the Most Holy Place where these truths are revealed. 00:57:33.55\00:57:36.89 And these are the truths that are going to divide the world 00:57:36.99\00:57:39.65 at the end of time. 00:57:39.69\00:57:41.02 Do we have a special message as the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:57:41.99\00:57:46.19 to share these truths with the world? 00:57:46.23\00:57:48.76 We most certainly do. 00:57:49.10\00:57:50.43 And woe to us if we don't lead people in the world 00:57:50.47\00:57:54.10 to a Most Holy Place experience where they can see 00:57:54.20\00:57:57.84 the fullness of truth and make a decision, 00:57:57.87\00:58:00.84 a final decision, to receive Jesus Christ and live for Him. 00:58:00.88\00:58:05.91
