Well hello, everybody. 00:00:15.64\00:00:16.98 Welcome to session number six of our series 00:00:17.01\00:00:20.45 titled, The Great Cosmic Controversy. 00:00:21.15\00:00:25.52 And the subtitle is, How God Clears His Name 00:00:25.82\00:00:29.06 of All False Charges. 00:00:29.09\00:00:30.93 Our subject for today is part one of, 00:00:31.26\00:00:34.40 The Most Holy Place Message. 00:00:34.43\00:00:36.87 We're going to review, however, what we studied before. 00:00:37.13\00:00:40.07 But let's have a word of prayer, first of all, 00:00:40.44\00:00:42.50 to ask for the Lord's blessing as we open His Word. 00:00:42.67\00:00:45.51 Let's bow our heads. 00:00:45.54\00:00:46.88 Father in heaven, thank You once again for the awesome 00:00:47.14\00:00:50.48 privilege of being here gathered together to open Your holy Word, 00:00:50.51\00:00:54.58 to hear Your voice speaking to us through that Word 00:00:54.92\00:00:57.89 that You inspired long ago. 00:00:57.92\00:00:59.69 We ask that the same Spirit that inspired the Word 00:00:59.95\00:01:02.96 will come and explain it to us in the next 00:01:03.16\00:01:05.99 few minutes together. 00:01:06.03\00:01:07.36 We thank You for hearing our prayer, for we ask it in the 00:01:07.53\00:01:10.50 precious name of Jesus. 00:01:10.53\00:01:12.07 Amen. 00:01:12.10\00:01:13.44 Let's review, first of all, the work that Jesus performed 00:01:14.50\00:01:18.61 in the camp and in the court of the Sanctuary. 00:01:18.91\00:01:22.84 You'll remember that in the camp Jesus lived 00:01:23.08\00:01:25.95 His perfect life for every single person who has 00:01:26.15\00:01:29.55 ever lived in the history of planet earth. 00:01:29.58\00:01:32.05 Then Jesus went to the altar of sacrifice 00:01:32.35\00:01:35.22 and He died on the cross, bearing the sins that have 00:01:35.69\00:01:39.89 ever been committed in the history of the world. 00:01:40.00\00:01:42.90 Everyone's sins Jesus bore on the cross. 00:01:42.93\00:01:46.67 And then we noticed that at the laver the Lord Jesus 00:01:47.00\00:01:50.17 resurrected from the dead. 00:01:50.21\00:01:52.67 Now we need to understand that these functions of Jesus 00:01:53.58\00:01:57.05 in the camp and in the court really have nothing to do 00:01:57.08\00:02:01.58 with the response of man. 00:02:01.62\00:02:03.12 We covered this in our last study together. 00:02:03.15\00:02:05.99 In other words, Jesus did not come to our camp, 00:02:06.15\00:02:09.46 He did not die on the cross, because we requested it. 00:02:09.49\00:02:13.13 It was not by our choice. 00:02:13.23\00:02:15.43 It was because of God's grace that He decided to do it. 00:02:15.66\00:02:19.30 He took the initiative, in other words. 00:02:19.33\00:02:22.10 It had nothing to do with the response of man. 00:02:22.20\00:02:25.47 However, we were studying in our last topic 00:02:26.27\00:02:30.28 the work of Jesus in the Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:02:30.75\00:02:34.52 And there we noticed that it has to do with the response of man 00:02:34.88\00:02:39.39 to the work that Jesus performed in the camp and in the court. 00:02:39.59\00:02:44.79 And basically, in the Holy Place Jesus pours out the benefits 00:02:45.23\00:02:51.10 of His earthly work upon individuals who respond 00:02:51.13\00:02:56.54 by repenting and trusting in Jesus. 00:02:56.57\00:02:59.84 In other words, summarizing, when a person repents, 00:03:00.08\00:03:04.25 that person places his sins upon Jesus. 00:03:05.01\00:03:08.82 Remembering the service of the Sanctuary in the Old Testament, 00:03:08.85\00:03:12.39 the sinner would come repentant. 00:03:12.55\00:03:14.69 He would place the sin on the head of the victim. 00:03:14.89\00:03:18.86 He would confess that sin on the head of the victim. 00:03:19.13\00:03:21.93 And then he would slay that animal, and the sinner 00:03:22.10\00:03:27.64 was forgiven or he was cleansed. 00:03:27.67\00:03:30.07 But then the priest would take the blood 00:03:30.27\00:03:32.31 into the Sanctuary, the blood bore the record of the sin, 00:03:32.64\00:03:36.44 and the blood deposited the sin in the Sanctuary. 00:03:36.64\00:03:40.78 So in other words, the Sanctuary was defiled. 00:03:40.82\00:03:44.35 And because the Sanctuary had the stain of sin, 00:03:44.62\00:03:47.42 it was necessary at the end of the year for the Sanctuary 00:03:47.62\00:03:51.63 to be cleansed. 00:03:51.66\00:03:53.03 And so we noticed in our study last night 00:03:53.19\00:03:55.63 that our sins were placed upon Jesus when we 00:03:55.86\00:04:00.34 repented and we confessed our sins. 00:04:00.54\00:04:03.04 Jesus takes our sins and He forgives us, and takes the sins 00:04:03.07\00:04:08.01 into the Sanctuary covered by His blood. 00:04:08.04\00:04:10.88 And in this way, the heavenly Sanctuary is defiled with 00:04:11.05\00:04:14.92 the record of sin. 00:04:14.95\00:04:16.28 And therefore, just as in the earthly, the heavenly Sanctuary 00:04:16.42\00:04:20.09 must be cleansed from the record of sin that is introduced there. 00:04:20.26\00:04:24.93 So what I want to emphasize is that in the daily service, 00:04:25.16\00:04:28.70 it is the sinner who is forgiven and cleansed. 00:04:28.73\00:04:32.07 In the yearly service in the Most Holy Place, 00:04:32.50\00:04:35.40 it is the Sanctuary that is cleansed from the cumulus 00:04:35.44\00:04:40.14 of the sins of the people. 00:04:40.18\00:04:42.28 Let's read 1 John 1:7 and 9 to see what happened 00:04:42.44\00:04:48.15 in the daily service. 00:04:48.18\00:04:49.65 It says there in verse 7... 00:04:50.49\00:04:52.19 So in the daily service, who is cleansed from sin? 00:05:06.10\00:05:08.70 Who is forgiven from sin? 00:05:08.74\00:05:10.14 It is the sinner. 00:05:10.91\00:05:12.24 Not the Sanctuary. 00:05:12.34\00:05:13.78 We're going to notice that the priest takes the sin 00:05:14.28\00:05:16.34 into the Sanctuary through the blood, 00:05:16.38\00:05:18.15 and it's deposited in the Sanctuary. 00:05:18.35\00:05:20.05 But clearly here it says that, "...the blood of Jesus Christ 00:05:20.08\00:05:23.89 His Son cleanses us from all sin." 00:05:23.92\00:05:26.42 And then verse 9 says... 00:05:26.62\00:05:28.36 So in the daily service, it is the sinner who is forgiven. 00:05:40.97\00:05:44.91 It is the sinner who is cleansed. 00:05:44.94\00:05:46.71 But now when the blood of Jesus takes the sin 00:05:46.84\00:05:50.05 into the Sanctuary, the Sanctuary is what? 00:05:50.08\00:05:53.42 The Sanctuary is defiled. 00:05:53.45\00:05:55.95 So summarizing, when a person repents, confesses his sin, 00:05:56.15\00:06:01.06 trusts in Jesus, and is baptized, 00:06:01.46\00:06:04.89 his sins are forgiven. 00:06:05.03\00:06:07.03 And his or her name is written in the Book of Life. 00:06:07.26\00:06:11.67 Now there's a very important point here. 00:06:12.03\00:06:14.00 And that is, that the sincerity of the person's repentance 00:06:14.20\00:06:18.57 and confession is not evaluated in the daily service. 00:06:18.61\00:06:22.41 In other words, Jesus takes the sinner's word 00:06:22.68\00:06:25.65 that he's repentant and he's confessed his sin. 00:06:25.68\00:06:27.98 The sincerity of his confession and his repentance 00:06:28.55\00:06:32.09 is evaluated on the Day of Atonement in the judgment. 00:06:32.25\00:06:36.12 There it's going to be determined whether the person's 00:06:36.22\00:06:39.09 repentance and confession and faith in Jesus were genuine 00:06:39.13\00:06:43.90 or they were not. 00:06:43.93\00:06:45.73 Now let me read you a statement from the book, 00:06:46.00\00:06:48.60 Great Controversy, page 421, where we find an explanation 00:06:48.64\00:06:54.18 of the daily service. 00:06:54.21\00:06:56.04 We read this statement last night, but it would be a 00:06:56.51\00:06:58.75 good idea to read it again. 00:06:58.78\00:07:00.38 Are you understanding that? 00:07:30.48\00:07:31.81 It's so clear. 00:07:31.85\00:07:33.18 So in the daily service the sins were transferred 00:07:33.21\00:07:36.15 into the Holy Place through the blood of the victim. 00:07:36.45\00:07:40.32 As in the Old Testament, we find this same thing happening 00:07:40.66\00:07:47.10 in the Sanctuary in figure or in illustrative form. 00:07:47.13\00:07:51.60 Now I mentioned last night that Leviticus 1 through 15 00:07:52.03\00:07:56.00 uses words for, "sin," in the singular. 00:07:56.47\00:08:00.34 For example, some of the words that are used are: 00:08:00.38\00:08:02.58 sin, transgression, uncleanness. 00:08:02.61\00:08:05.88 In Leviticus 1 through 15, these words are used in the singular. 00:08:06.08\00:08:09.92 Because what is in view is the individual sinner 00:08:10.32\00:08:14.52 who's introducing his sins into the Sanctuary. 00:08:14.56\00:08:16.93 Whereas on the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16, 00:08:17.26\00:08:20.03 which is the judgment day, these words are in the plural. 00:08:20.06\00:08:24.70 In other words, it is: sins, and transgressions, 00:08:24.73\00:08:29.00 and uncleanness in the plural sense of the word. 00:08:29.20\00:08:32.27 And it's because on the Day of Atonement, the day of judgment, 00:08:32.31\00:08:35.54 all of the sins that have gathered in the Sanctuary 00:08:35.58\00:08:38.35 are now going to be cleansed from the Sanctuary. 00:08:38.58\00:08:42.98 Now I want to read the rest of the quotation 00:08:43.22\00:08:45.99 that we began to read just a few moments ago from, 00:08:46.02\00:08:48.99 Great Controversy, page 421. 00:08:49.02\00:08:52.26 We're going to complete that statement now. 00:08:52.36\00:08:54.43 You remember that the first part of the statement says 00:08:54.46\00:08:56.80 that in the Old Testament system the sinner placed the sin 00:08:56.83\00:09:00.77 on the head of the victim, and then the blood of the victim 00:09:00.80\00:09:03.74 was taken into the Sanctuary. 00:09:03.77\00:09:05.21 So that represents that our sins are placed upon Jesus 00:09:05.24\00:09:09.04 when we repent. 00:09:09.08\00:09:10.41 And Jesus, through His blood, introduces them 00:09:10.45\00:09:12.61 into the Sanctuary, into the Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:09:12.65\00:09:16.18 Now let me complete the statement to explain 00:09:16.28\00:09:18.92 what happened on the Day of Atonement. 00:09:18.95\00:09:21.12 This is how it reads... 00:09:21.89\00:09:23.32 So in other words, the sins that entered in the Old Testament 00:09:43.78\00:09:46.61 had to be cleansed from the Sanctuary. 00:09:46.65\00:09:48.85 In reality in heaven, the sins that enter through the 00:09:49.02\00:09:51.99 blood of Jesus must be what? 00:09:52.02\00:09:53.92 Must be cleansed from the Sanctuary. 00:09:53.96\00:09:56.49 She continues explaining in this statement the following, 00:09:56.52\00:10:00.23 "But before this can be accomplished..." 00:10:00.43\00:10:02.96 Before the Sanctuary can be cleansed. 00:10:03.00\00:10:04.93 In other words, there has to be an examination to see 00:10:21.32\00:10:23.72 if individuals really are entitled to the benefits 00:10:23.92\00:10:27.89 of Christ's atonement. 00:10:27.92\00:10:29.26 Now she continues saying, "The cleansing of the Sanctuary..." 00:10:30.36\00:10:33.60 Are you understanding what Ellen White is saying here? 00:10:54.38\00:10:57.72 She's saying that in the yearly service the sins were 00:10:58.25\00:11:02.26 cleansed from the Sanctuary. 00:11:02.29\00:11:03.86 But before that, there had to be an examination to see 00:11:04.06\00:11:08.13 which sins really could be cleansed from the Sanctuary 00:11:08.16\00:11:13.54 based on whether the person had truly repented 00:11:13.57\00:11:16.24 and confessed his sins, and had trusted in 00:11:16.27\00:11:20.11 Jesus Christ as his Savior. 00:11:20.14\00:11:21.51 So in other words, it's investigated to see 00:11:21.54\00:11:24.11 if each individual is entitled to the benefits 00:11:24.31\00:11:28.08 of Christ's atonement. 00:11:28.18\00:11:30.09 On page 428 of the book, Great Controversy, 00:11:30.35\00:11:34.09 we find something very important. 00:11:34.22\00:11:37.29 You know, Jesus began a new phase of His work in 1844. 00:11:37.33\00:11:41.36 We're going to talk about 1844 in a few moments. 00:11:41.40\00:11:43.93 He began a work of judgment. 00:11:44.10\00:11:46.33 But that doesn't mean that Jesus suspended 00:11:46.77\00:11:49.00 His work of intercession. 00:11:49.04\00:11:50.44 He continued the work of the Holy Place 00:11:50.74\00:11:53.74 in the Most Holy Place. 00:11:53.78\00:11:55.21 He continued interceding. 00:11:55.24\00:11:56.95 Because, of course, if He didn't intercede anymore 00:11:57.05\00:11:59.51 after 1844, everybody would be lost. 00:11:59.55\00:12:02.05 So notice what Ellen White has to say about this in, 00:12:02.65\00:12:05.29 Great Controversy, 428. 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.12 That's the Old Testament service. 00:12:09.29\00:12:10.96 So Jesus simply assumes an additional function in 1844. 00:12:46.09\00:12:50.93 He does not cease interceding. 00:12:51.23\00:12:53.23 Does His life sill have lasting significance for us today? 00:12:53.27\00:12:57.31 Yes. Does His death still have lasting significance for us? 00:12:57.34\00:13:01.21 Does His resurrection have lasting significance for us? 00:13:01.24\00:13:04.38 Does His work in the Holy Place continue in the Most Holy Place? 00:13:04.51\00:13:08.28 Yes. 00:13:08.32\00:13:09.65 And when the work in the Most Holy Place is finished, 00:13:09.68\00:13:12.29 then it is all finished, as we are going to study 00:13:12.39\00:13:16.02 as we go along. 00:13:16.06\00:13:17.39 Now some people say, "Pastor Bohr, how can you say that 00:13:17.69\00:13:22.23 in heaven there is a record of sin that defiles the Sanctuary? 00:13:22.26\00:13:27.47 A place that is most holy. 00:13:27.50\00:13:29.40 How can a place that is most holy have also 00:13:29.70\00:13:33.51 a record of sin in it? 00:13:33.54\00:13:34.91 How can these two things co-exist?" 00:13:35.11\00:13:37.95 And my answer is very simple. 00:13:38.25\00:13:40.02 The sin that is placed in the Sanctuary does not 00:13:40.65\00:13:43.49 belong to the Sanctuary. 00:13:43.52\00:13:45.35 It is imputed to the Sanctuary. 00:13:45.55\00:13:48.02 It is accounted to the Sanctuary. 00:13:48.06\00:13:50.59 But it does not belong to the Sanctuary. 00:13:50.83\00:13:53.06 Now let me give you an example so you can understand 00:13:53.26\00:13:55.73 how a place that is most holy can also have 00:13:55.76\00:13:59.90 something as vile as sin recorded there. 00:14:00.10\00:14:03.27 Was Jesus absolutely sinless and holy? 00:14:04.77\00:14:09.28 Was He? 00:14:10.05\00:14:11.38 Of course He was. 00:14:11.41\00:14:12.75 The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5 00:14:12.78\00:14:14.82 that He knew no what? 00:14:15.02\00:14:18.52 He knew no sin. 00:14:18.55\00:14:20.06 So He was absolutely holy. 00:14:20.09\00:14:21.82 But let me ask you, was sin imputed to the one who was 00:14:21.86\00:14:26.13 absolutely holy? 00:14:26.16\00:14:27.53 Absolutely. 00:14:27.86\00:14:29.20 Because it continues saying, "He who knew no sin 00:14:29.23\00:14:31.83 was made to be sin for us." 00:14:31.87\00:14:33.64 The sins were given to His account. 00:14:33.84\00:14:36.34 The sins were imputed to Him, but they did not belong to Him. 00:14:36.37\00:14:39.64 And in the same way, the sins that go into the Sanctuary, 00:14:39.87\00:14:42.84 they are imputed in the Sanctuary until 00:14:43.04\00:14:45.45 the real culprit gets the final blame for it 00:14:45.48\00:14:48.62 They are placed in the Sanctuary, but they 00:14:48.72\00:14:51.19 do not belong to the Sanctuary. 00:14:51.22\00:14:52.95 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:14:52.99\00:14:54.42 Now, let's notice something else very interesting. 00:14:54.76\00:14:59.36 And that is, that in John 3 Jesus uses the example 00:14:59.39\00:15:04.23 of the serpent in the wilderness. 00:15:04.27\00:15:05.87 What does a serpent represent in Scripture? 00:15:06.63\00:15:09.40 Well a serpent represents Satan. 00:15:09.44\00:15:11.21 It represents evil, it represents sin. 00:15:11.24\00:15:13.71 Is Jesus represented as a serpent in the Bible? 00:15:14.01\00:15:17.05 Yes. 00:15:17.25\00:15:18.58 He's the serpent that was raised in the wilderness. 00:15:18.61\00:15:21.25 It's a symbol of Christ. 00:15:21.45\00:15:23.08 So you say, "How can the serpent representing sin and evil 00:15:23.28\00:15:27.86 be a symbol of Christ?" 00:15:28.06\00:15:29.49 It's very simple. 00:15:29.52\00:15:30.86 Because Jesus assumed the sin of human beings. 00:15:30.89\00:15:34.83 He was made to be sin in our place. 00:15:34.86\00:15:37.57 Are you with me? 00:15:37.60\00:15:38.93 Even though He was most holy, the sins of the world 00:15:38.97\00:15:42.64 were imputed to Jesus. 00:15:42.67\00:15:45.57 Now somebody might say, "Well, Pastor Bohr, 00:15:46.01\00:15:48.74 where in the Bible does it say that the Sanctuary 00:15:48.94\00:15:51.91 has to be cleansed?" 00:15:51.95\00:15:53.58 Well, I want to read two verses in the Bible. 00:15:53.75\00:15:56.52 One is in the Old Testament and the other one is in the New. 00:15:56.55\00:15:59.15 The first one, of course, is Daniel 8:14. 00:15:59.42\00:16:02.89 What Adventist doesn't know Daniel 8:14? 00:16:02.92\00:16:05.89 It says there, "And he said to me..." 00:16:06.23\00:16:08.96 And we're going to take a closer look at the 00:16:09.00\00:16:10.73 chronology here in a moment. 00:16:10.77\00:16:12.40 Which Sanctuary? 00:16:20.01\00:16:21.34 When the 2300 days end, is there any Sanctuary on earth? 00:16:21.88\00:16:25.98 No. At that time the Jewish temple is destroyed. 00:16:26.38\00:16:29.42 It was destroyed in the year 70. 00:16:29.45\00:16:31.39 So there was no earthly Sanctuary to cleanse 00:16:31.59\00:16:34.02 at the end of the 2300 days. 00:16:34.06\00:16:36.02 So what must be the Sanctuary that must be cleansed 00:16:36.12\00:16:39.39 at the end of the 2300 days? 00:16:39.43\00:16:41.30 It must be the what? 00:16:41.40\00:16:42.90 The heavenly Sanctuary. 00:16:43.00\00:16:44.43 So very clearly, the heavenly Sanctuary needs to be what? 00:16:44.47\00:16:48.00 It needs to be cleansed. 00:16:48.04\00:16:49.50 Notice also Hebrews 9:23. 00:16:49.80\00:16:52.64 Hebrews 9:23 00:16:52.67\00:16:54.68 First of all, it's speaks about the earthly Sanctuary. 00:16:55.48\00:16:58.05 They're called, the copies of the true, 00:16:58.08\00:17:00.22 the copies of the heavenly. 00:17:00.25\00:17:01.68 It says there, speaking about the earthly Sanctuary... 00:17:01.85\00:17:04.69 That's the earthly Sanctuary. 00:17:10.26\00:17:12.19 So did the copies have to be purified? 00:17:19.30\00:17:22.07 Yes. But now notice the last half of the verse. 00:17:22.27\00:17:24.91 What are the better sacrifices that cleanse 00:17:32.95\00:17:35.45 the heavenly Sanctuary? 00:17:35.48\00:17:36.82 It is the blood of whom? 00:17:37.02\00:17:39.22 Of Jesus Christ. 00:17:39.25\00:17:40.66 Are you seeing the parallel? 00:17:40.69\00:17:42.02 So does the Bible teach us that there is defilement 00:17:42.16\00:17:44.86 in the heavenly Sanctuary that needs to be cleansed? 00:17:44.89\00:17:47.00 Absolutely, the Bible makes it very clear. 00:17:47.10\00:17:49.46 It's the sins that have entered there when the sinner repents, 00:17:49.66\00:17:53.84 confesses his or her sin, trusts in Jesus, and is baptized. 00:17:53.87\00:17:58.97 And if a person sins after baptism, they can still repent, 00:17:59.01\00:18:02.41 and confess their sins, and trust in Jesus. 00:18:02.44\00:18:04.78 The sins go into the Sanctuary through the blood. 00:18:04.81\00:18:07.88 The sinner is now forgiven. 00:18:07.92\00:18:09.55 You can have a good night sleep because your sins are forgiven. 00:18:09.58\00:18:13.36 You can jump for joy. 00:18:13.39\00:18:14.72 But now the problem is where? 00:18:14.76\00:18:17.03 The problem is in the Sanctuary. 00:18:17.06\00:18:19.09 And God has to take measures to cleanse the Sanctuary 00:18:19.13\00:18:22.56 at some point. 00:18:22.60\00:18:23.93 Now somebody might say, "But, Pastor Bohr, 00:18:24.03\00:18:26.33 why does God even need to examine the sins 00:18:27.00\00:18:33.01 that have gone into the Sanctuary? 00:18:33.04\00:18:35.71 Why must the life of the individual who has 00:18:35.81\00:18:39.75 trusted in Jesus, confessed sin, repented of sin, 00:18:39.78\00:18:43.69 and sent the sins into the Sanctuary, why does there 00:18:43.89\00:18:47.06 need to be a work of judgment and examination 00:18:47.09\00:18:49.62 to decide which sins are going to be eradicated or cleansed 00:18:49.72\00:18:53.96 from the Sanctuary?" 00:18:54.00\00:18:55.33 Let me ask you, does God know everything? 00:18:56.16\00:18:59.40 Does God know every sin that every person 00:19:00.14\00:19:02.54 on planet earth has ever committed? 00:19:02.57\00:19:04.41 Of course He does. 00:19:04.74\00:19:06.07 The Bible says that God is omniscient. 00:19:06.14\00:19:08.38 In other words, God is all knowing. 00:19:08.41\00:19:09.88 So the question is, why would God have to open up the records 00:19:10.05\00:19:13.68 to determine who truly repented, who truly confessed, 00:19:13.92\00:19:17.59 who truly had faith in Jesus, if God already knows 00:19:17.62\00:19:21.42 who did and who didn't? 00:19:21.46\00:19:23.32 The bottom line, folks, is that the judgment is not for God. 00:19:24.66\00:19:27.80 The judgment before the second coming of Christ... 00:19:28.60\00:19:31.53 Which is what we're talking about now. 00:19:31.57\00:19:32.97 The Day of Atonement is before Jesus comes. 00:19:33.00\00:19:35.24 The judgment before the second coming of Christ 00:19:35.70\00:19:38.21 has a specific purpose. 00:19:38.24\00:19:39.74 And that is to convince the heavenly universe 00:19:40.04\00:19:43.04 that God acted correctly in every single case 00:19:43.18\00:19:46.92 that is judged in that judgment. 00:19:46.95\00:19:48.95 Jesus is going to show that those people that He is going to 00:19:49.58\00:19:52.82 take to heaven when He comes again, He has a right 00:19:52.85\00:19:55.89 to take each one of those individuals to heaven. 00:19:55.92\00:19:58.59 When the judgment is finished, all of the heavenly beings 00:19:58.79\00:20:01.56 will say, "You acted correctly in every single case, 00:20:01.60\00:20:04.97 and You have a right to bring all of those people home." 00:20:05.00\00:20:07.90 So the purpose of the judgment before the second coming 00:20:08.27\00:20:11.17 is not to inform God. 00:20:11.37\00:20:13.48 It is to inform the heavenly universe, 00:20:13.51\00:20:16.81 because they are not omniscient. 00:20:16.85\00:20:18.48 They can't read the mind, they can't read the heart. 00:20:18.51\00:20:21.05 It's to inform the heavenly universe concerning the case 00:20:21.25\00:20:24.55 of each individual for God to show that He has a right 00:20:24.59\00:20:27.96 to bring all of these individuals that pass 00:20:27.99\00:20:31.06 the judgment to heaven. 00:20:31.09\00:20:32.59 You see, Satan says this, "If everyone is a sinner, 00:20:32.89\00:20:36.50 why does God save some and condemn others? 00:20:37.20\00:20:40.70 On what bases does God save David, an adulterer 00:20:41.20\00:20:46.37 and a murderer? 00:20:46.41\00:20:47.74 On what basis does God save Saul of Tarsus 00:20:47.78\00:20:50.65 who killed so many members of the church? 00:20:50.68\00:20:53.45 Whereas other individuals who didn't commit such terrible sins 00:20:53.65\00:20:57.75 they're left behind and they're not saved 00:20:57.79\00:20:59.99 Why?" 00:21:00.02\00:21:01.36 God is going to open up the records in heaven 00:21:01.62\00:21:03.89 and He's going to show each case so that the heavenly universe, 00:21:03.93\00:21:08.03 when the judgment is finished, they'll say, 00:21:08.23\00:21:10.63 "You're right in bringing these, 00:21:10.67\00:21:12.70 and You are right in leaving those behind." 00:21:12.73\00:21:16.60 So the purpose of the judgment before the second coming 00:21:16.84\00:21:19.34 is to persuade the heavenly beings that God has acted 00:21:19.54\00:21:23.45 justly in every single case. 00:21:23.48\00:21:25.51 You see, there are true believers 00:21:25.75\00:21:27.88 and counterfeit believers in the church. 00:21:27.92\00:21:30.89 Is that true? 00:21:30.92\00:21:32.25 There are those who truly repented from sin, 00:21:32.35\00:21:35.29 and there are those who only have crocodile tears. 00:21:35.39\00:21:39.69 Let me just show you some examples from Scripture 00:21:41.40\00:21:44.33 that in the church there are many who have confessed Jesus 00:21:44.37\00:21:48.17 that are not true children of Jesus. 00:21:48.37\00:21:50.34 They claim to have repented. 00:21:50.61\00:21:52.21 They claim that they confessed their sins. 00:21:52.31\00:21:54.64 They claim that they trusted in Jesus. 00:21:54.68\00:21:57.18 They were even baptized. 00:21:57.45\00:21:59.01 But it's proven that they are not true believers 00:21:59.38\00:22:03.42 in the judgment. 00:22:03.52\00:22:05.22 Now I want you to notice Matthew 6 00:22:05.42\00:22:08.86 and we're going to read verses 2, 5, and 16. 00:22:08.89\00:22:12.63 Notice what Jesus had to say to the church of His day. 00:22:13.29\00:22:17.23 Were there true and counterfeit believers in the Jewish church 00:22:17.27\00:22:19.67 in Christ's day? 00:22:19.70\00:22:21.04 Oh, listen to this. 00:22:21.07\00:22:22.40 Verse 2, Matthew 6. 00:22:22.74\00:22:24.74 What is a hypocrite? 00:22:32.08\00:22:33.42 It's a person that's two-faced. 00:22:34.02\00:22:35.82 A person who it appears that they're one thing 00:22:36.32\00:22:39.45 when really they are what? 00:22:39.49\00:22:40.82 They're another. 00:22:41.09\00:22:42.42 Can you see on the surface the real nature of that person? 00:22:42.46\00:22:46.19 No. 00:22:46.23\00:22:47.56 So notice, "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed..." 00:22:47.60\00:22:50.30 Notice it doesn't say, "They shall have their reward." 00:23:00.61\00:23:02.41 They have their reward. What is their reward? 00:23:02.44\00:23:04.25 To be praised by everybody, right? 00:23:04.28\00:23:05.88 So they have their reward right now. 00:23:05.91\00:23:07.35 Notice verse 5. 00:23:07.88\00:23:09.28 Once again, the word hypocrites; two-faced. 00:23:12.62\00:23:14.79 So are these religious people? 00:23:22.66\00:23:24.63 Oh yea. 00:23:24.80\00:23:26.13 Do they claim to be servants of God? 00:23:26.17\00:23:27.50 Oh yea. 00:23:27.54\00:23:28.87 Now notice what Jesus says. 00:23:29.47\00:23:30.81 "I say to you, they have their reward." 00:23:30.84\00:23:33.07 What is their reward? 00:23:33.11\00:23:34.44 To be praised by men. 00:23:34.48\00:23:35.81 Notice verse 16. 00:23:35.94\00:23:37.35 "...hypocrites..." There's the word again. 00:23:40.18\00:23:41.72 So are there individuals that are true believers 00:23:55.23\00:23:58.20 and counterfeit believers that claim to serve God? 00:23:58.23\00:24:00.77 Absolutely. 00:24:00.80\00:24:02.14 In the church, is there wheat and also tares in the church? 00:24:02.30\00:24:06.78 Yes. 00:24:06.81\00:24:08.14 Does the gospel net gather good and bad fish? 00:24:08.24\00:24:11.45 Absolutely. 00:24:12.05\00:24:13.38 Does the church have wise and foolish virgins? 00:24:13.42\00:24:16.58 Yes. 00:24:16.62\00:24:17.95 Does the bridal chamber gather individuals who 00:24:17.99\00:24:20.96 have the wedding garment and those who don't? 00:24:20.99\00:24:23.76 Absolutely. 00:24:24.03\00:24:25.36 Are their individuals who profess the name of Jesus 00:24:26.03\00:24:29.23 and even perform miracles and cast out demons 00:24:29.26\00:24:32.33 in the name of Jesus that are counterfeit believers 00:24:32.37\00:24:35.97 to whom Jesus says, "I do not know you"? 00:24:36.00\00:24:39.17 Absolutely. 00:24:39.27\00:24:40.61 There are those who say, "Lord, Lord," 00:24:40.88\00:24:42.81 but Jesus refuses to recognize them. 00:24:43.04\00:24:45.21 Is it true that there are even some ministers 00:24:45.41\00:24:48.55 that disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness, 00:24:48.58\00:24:52.15 according to the apostle Paul, but they are really 00:24:52.19\00:24:54.39 emissaries of the devil? 00:24:54.42\00:24:56.09 Absolutely. 00:24:56.12\00:24:57.46 Are there those in the church that have a form of godliness 00:24:57.49\00:25:00.70 but do not have the power of godliness? 00:25:00.80\00:25:02.86 Absolutely. 00:25:02.90\00:25:04.23 So where is the separation going to be made 00:25:04.27\00:25:06.84 between true believers and counterfeit believers? 00:25:06.97\00:25:10.81 It will be done when? 00:25:10.84\00:25:12.34 In the judgment. 00:25:12.61\00:25:14.31 The purpose of the judgment before the second coming 00:25:14.88\00:25:17.91 is to reveal who was truly sorry and who wasn't. 00:25:18.01\00:25:21.65 And when the judgment is finished, all the heavenly 00:25:22.42\00:25:25.49 beings will say, "Ah, Jesus, Your kingdom is made up. 00:25:25.52\00:25:29.19 All of these are genuine. 00:25:29.22\00:25:30.86 When You go to the earth, 00:25:31.09\00:25:32.73 You can bring all of these people home." 00:25:32.83\00:25:35.26 And they'll say, "All of those that You chose to leave behind, 00:25:35.86\00:25:38.53 all of those hypocritical believers, 00:25:38.57\00:25:40.67 those are staying behind. 00:25:40.94\00:25:42.40 And we agree that You are right, 00:25:42.44\00:25:44.57 That You are just in what You did." 00:25:44.61\00:25:46.34 The purpose of the judgment is not to inform God. 00:25:46.37\00:25:49.34 The purpose of the judgment is to inform the heavenly universe 00:25:49.38\00:25:53.55 that God acted correctly in the cases 00:25:53.58\00:25:56.38 of every single human being. 00:25:56.42\00:25:58.75 Now this judgment is done in three stages, or three steps. 00:25:59.85\00:26:03.99 First of all, you have an investigation. 00:26:04.43\00:26:06.39 The system of jurisprudence that we have on planet earth, 00:26:06.93\00:26:09.70 is it very similar to the system that God has? 00:26:09.93\00:26:12.70 When a crime is committed, what do you have first of all? 00:26:14.10\00:26:16.40 The court investigates it, right? 00:26:16.44\00:26:18.57 And then based on the investigation of the evidence, 00:26:19.21\00:26:22.54 what do you have? 00:26:22.58\00:26:23.91 The sentence is pronounced, right? 00:26:23.95\00:26:25.88 And then the time comes when the reward 00:26:26.45\00:26:29.38 or the execution of the sentence is implemented. 00:26:29.42\00:26:32.35 And so, the judgment that takes place before the second coming 00:26:32.85\00:26:37.16 of Jesus Christ, the case of each individual 00:26:37.19\00:26:40.63 is going to be investigated. 00:26:40.66\00:26:42.13 Based on the evidence, when that individual's case 00:26:42.83\00:26:47.30 is ended, has already been evaluated, 00:26:47.34\00:26:49.87 what will be pronounced? 00:26:49.90\00:26:51.27 What will be pronounced is the sentence. 00:26:51.47\00:26:53.44 And then when Jesus comes, what is Jesus going to do? 00:26:53.48\00:26:56.68 He is going to give what? 00:26:56.85\00:26:58.85 The reward. 00:26:58.91\00:27:00.25 So is God's system of justice similar to the 00:27:00.28\00:27:02.98 system of justice on earth? 00:27:03.02\00:27:04.35 Maybe I should say it the other way around. 00:27:04.39\00:27:06.25 Is our system of justice similar to the system of justice of God? 00:27:06.45\00:27:10.29 God will not condemn anyone without an investigation 00:27:10.49\00:27:14.26 to prove that He was right and Satan was wrong. 00:27:14.30\00:27:17.73 Are you understanding the purpose of this 00:27:17.77\00:27:19.70 particular stage of the judgment? 00:27:19.73\00:27:21.40 Now let's answer a few questions about the judgment. 00:27:21.74\00:27:24.64 Who is going to be judged in this judgment 00:27:26.14\00:27:29.71 during the Day of Atonement 00:27:30.01\00:27:31.35 before the second coming of Christ? 00:27:31.38\00:27:34.08 Let's read a couple of verses. 00:27:34.45\00:27:36.32 2 Corinthians 5:10 00:27:36.35\00:27:38.52 Remember that the apostle Paul here is writing 00:27:38.69\00:27:41.72 to church members. 00:27:41.76\00:27:43.36 Okay? He's not writing to the world. 00:27:43.69\00:27:45.56 He's writing to the Corinthians. 00:27:45.76\00:27:47.63 So notice what he has to say in 2 Corinthians 5:10. 00:27:47.76\00:27:51.23 Is he talking about church members? Yes. 00:27:55.80\00:27:58.17 So who are the ones that are judged? 00:28:09.22\00:28:10.99 The ones that are judged are those who belong to the church, 00:28:11.42\00:28:17.26 according to this. 00:28:17.43\00:28:18.76 Notice 1 Peter 4:17. 00:28:18.86\00:28:21.80 This verse has been misinterpreted by many. 00:28:21.83\00:28:24.27 They've said that, you know, the judgment will begin 00:28:24.53\00:28:27.27 with Seventh-day Adventists. 00:28:27.30\00:28:28.77 But actually, this applies to everyone who claimed 00:28:28.80\00:28:30.97 the name of Jesus Christ. 00:28:31.01\00:28:32.34 Notice 1 Peter 4:17. 00:28:32.37\00:28:34.98 What is the house of God? 00:28:38.21\00:28:39.55 The apostle Paul defines the house of God as the church. 00:28:40.02\00:28:42.78 You can read it in 1 Timothy 3. 00:28:43.75\00:28:45.65 Notice... 00:28:45.69\00:28:47.02 "...and if it first begins at us..." 00:28:49.52\00:28:52.46 Are you catching that? 00:28:54.50\00:28:55.83 When he says, "us," who is he referring to? 00:28:56.56\00:28:58.80 The house of God, the church. 00:28:59.47\00:29:00.80 It begins with us. 00:29:00.84\00:29:02.17 "...what shall be the end..." 00:29:02.67\00:29:04.21 So are you noticing that there's a judgment of the house of God, 00:29:07.04\00:29:10.08 and then there's another judgment of those who what? 00:29:10.11\00:29:13.21 Of those who obey not the gospel. 00:29:13.25\00:29:16.42 Only the cases of those who claimed Jesus as Savior 00:29:17.19\00:29:21.46 are examined in the judgment 00:29:21.49\00:29:23.89 before the second coming of Christ. 00:29:23.93\00:29:25.79 Why? 00:29:26.36\00:29:27.70 Once again, because Jesus is going to show the heavenly 00:29:27.76\00:29:30.47 universe that He was right in taking to heaven 00:29:30.50\00:29:35.57 those that He will receive unto Himself 00:29:35.60\00:29:38.31 when He comes the second time. 00:29:38.34\00:29:40.44 Is there another judgment that takes place later 00:29:41.04\00:29:44.11 for those who did not obey the gospel? 00:29:44.68\00:29:47.12 Absolutely. 00:29:47.15\00:29:48.48 When do those stages of the judgment take place? 00:29:48.52\00:29:50.79 During the millennium and after the millennium. 00:29:50.95\00:29:53.76 We are going to study those two stages later on in this series. 00:29:53.79\00:29:58.09 The only sins that are cleansed from the Sanctuary 00:29:58.49\00:30:01.46 are those that entered there by the blood of Jesus, 00:30:01.56\00:30:04.73 and those of which people truly repented, confessed, 00:30:04.97\00:30:09.37 and manifested faith in Jesus Christ. 00:30:09.40\00:30:12.44 Ellen White explains in, Great Controversy, page 480, 00:30:12.94\00:30:16.44 the following... 00:30:16.48\00:30:17.81 "In the typical service..." 00:30:18.08\00:30:19.78 That's in the Old Testament. 00:30:20.05\00:30:21.48 Who were the only ones who were in view on the Day of Atonement? 00:30:37.50\00:30:39.93 Those who what? 00:30:39.97\00:30:41.30 "...with confession and repentance, 00:30:41.34\00:30:43.30 and whose sins, through the blood of the sin offering 00:30:43.34\00:30:46.17 were transferred to the Sanctuary..." 00:30:46.21\00:30:47.78 Only those were included in the Day of Atonement service. 00:30:47.81\00:30:51.25 She continues writing... 00:30:51.68\00:30:53.01 Now here's the fulfillment. 00:30:53.62\00:30:54.95 Are you following me? 00:31:27.75\00:31:29.08 So what are the only cases that are looked at 00:31:29.12\00:31:31.99 in the judgment before the second coming of Christ? 00:31:32.19\00:31:34.26 Only those, she says, who, through confession 00:31:34.42\00:31:37.63 and repentance, have placed their sins in the Sanctuary 00:31:37.66\00:31:41.76 through the blood of the sin offering. 00:31:41.80\00:31:43.43 And who is the sin offering? 00:31:43.47\00:31:44.97 Jesus Christ. 00:31:45.07\00:31:46.40 So now we know who will be judged in this pre-advent 00:31:46.43\00:31:50.01 investigative judgment. 00:31:50.04\00:31:51.57 Now another question that we must answer is, 00:31:51.77\00:31:53.94 when did this judgment begin? 00:31:53.98\00:31:57.01 I can assure you that it did not begin in the days 00:31:57.51\00:31:59.95 of the apostle Paul. 00:31:59.98\00:32:01.35 Let's read Acts 17:30-31. 00:32:01.85\00:32:04.99 Acts 17:30-31 00:32:05.02\00:32:08.29 Here, the apostle Paul explains... 00:32:09.12\00:32:11.39 Now notice that he says, now what does 00:32:20.90\00:32:23.51 God command people to do? 00:32:23.54\00:32:24.91 "...all men everywhere to repent." 00:32:25.27\00:32:27.48 Why must people now repent? 00:32:29.04\00:32:31.78 That's the daily service, we noticed. 00:32:31.81\00:32:33.52 Notice, "...because He has appointed..." 00:32:33.55\00:32:36.79 What? "...a day..." 00:32:36.82\00:32:38.35 What is the name of that day? 00:32:38.45\00:32:39.95 The Day of Atonement. Very well. 00:32:40.42\00:32:43.32 "...He has appointed a day on which He will judge..." 00:32:43.36\00:32:47.80 Is this future? 00:32:48.96\00:32:50.30 In other words, God commands people now to repent 00:32:50.60\00:32:53.54 because a day is coming when "He will judge the world 00:32:53.57\00:32:59.04 in righteousness..." By whom? 00:32:59.07\00:33:01.78 "...by the Man..." Who is that? 00:33:01.94\00:33:04.01 Jesus. "...whom He has ordained..." 00:33:04.28\00:33:06.58 Was the judgment still future in the days of the apostle Paul? 00:33:10.82\00:33:14.62 Were people to repent at that time, and place 00:33:15.56\00:33:17.69 their sins in the Sanctuary? 00:33:17.73\00:33:19.19 Sure. 00:33:19.23\00:33:20.56 But had the judgment taken place? 00:33:20.60\00:33:22.06 No. God has appointed a future day, the Day of Atonement, 00:33:22.10\00:33:25.63 when He would judge. 00:33:25.67\00:33:27.94 Now there are other verses that tell us when this judgment 00:33:28.50\00:33:31.34 was going to begin. 00:33:31.37\00:33:32.71 Daniel 7 00:33:33.14\00:33:34.48 And we're going to have to go through this quickly 00:33:34.51\00:33:35.98 because time is going very fast. 00:33:36.01\00:33:38.21 Daniel 7, we have a sequence of beasts. 00:33:38.38\00:33:41.78 We have a lion; what kingdom does that represent? 00:33:41.82\00:33:44.45 Babylon. We have a bear. 00:33:44.52\00:33:46.35 That is what? The Medes and Persians. 00:33:46.39\00:33:48.39 Then we have the leopard beast. That's Greece. 00:33:48.52\00:33:51.23 Then we have a dragon beast. That represents what nation? 00:33:51.26\00:33:54.30 Rome. 00:33:54.33\00:33:55.66 And then the dragon beast sprouts ten horns. 00:33:55.70\00:33:57.83 What happened with Rome? 00:33:57.87\00:33:59.20 Rome was divided into ten kingdoms. 00:33:59.27\00:34:01.70 We're at the year 476. 00:34:01.74\00:34:03.51 And then among the ten horns rises a little horn. 00:34:03.64\00:34:06.24 And how long does that little horn rule? 00:34:06.27\00:34:08.41 1260 years. 00:34:08.64\00:34:10.75 And those 1260 years end at which date? 00:34:10.95\00:34:13.92 In 1798. 00:34:14.22\00:34:16.12 Now I want you to notice that in 1798 00:34:16.15\00:34:18.79 something happens in 1798. 00:34:18.82\00:34:22.06 Notice Daniel 7:9-10. 00:34:22.42\00:34:27.70 Now this doesn't happen immediately at 1798, 00:34:27.73\00:34:31.07 but it must happen after 1798 at some point. 00:34:31.10\00:34:34.30 Notice Daniel 7:9-10. 00:34:34.34\00:34:38.64 This is immediately after the little horn rules 1260 years. 00:34:38.94\00:34:42.81 Where does the Ancient of Days live? 00:34:48.55\00:34:50.42 He lives in heaven. 00:34:50.95\00:34:52.29 "Our Father, which art..." Where? 00:34:52.32\00:34:53.72 "...in heaven..." 00:34:53.76\00:34:55.09 So this is happening in heaven. 00:34:55.12\00:34:56.52 Who are these thousands of thousands, 00:35:14.48\00:35:16.44 and ten thousand times ten thousand? 00:35:16.48\00:35:18.58 They're the angels. Where do the angels live? 00:35:18.78\00:35:20.42 In the presence of the Father. In heaven. 00:35:20.85\00:35:22.88 So this is taking place in heaven 00:35:22.92\00:35:25.15 immediately after the 1260 years. 00:35:25.19\00:35:27.79 At some point after 1798. 00:35:27.82\00:35:30.13 And then I want you to notice what we find in verse 13. 00:35:30.56\00:35:35.20 And where does He go? 00:35:43.77\00:35:45.11 Not to earth. 00:35:45.47\00:35:46.81 It says, "He came to the Ancient of Days..." 00:35:46.84\00:35:48.94 He's moving to where the Ancient of Days moved 00:35:48.98\00:35:51.98 to begin the judgment. 00:35:52.01\00:35:53.35 So notice it says... 00:35:53.48\00:35:54.82 So you have Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, 00:36:12.63\00:36:15.80 Rome, Rome is divided into ten kingdoms, 00:36:15.84\00:36:18.17 then you have the papacy ruling 1260 years. 00:36:18.21\00:36:20.74 You're at the year 1798. 00:36:20.84\00:36:22.44 At some point after that, it says that the judgment sits 00:36:22.58\00:36:27.68 and the books are opened. 00:36:27.95\00:36:29.78 And then shortly after that, you have the Son of Man 00:36:30.19\00:36:32.75 coming on the clouds to whom? 00:36:32.85\00:36:34.92 He's coming on the clouds to the Ancient of Days. 00:36:35.02\00:36:38.86 And why is He going there? 00:36:38.96\00:36:40.53 It says He's going there to receive His what? 00:36:40.56\00:36:44.17 His kingdom. 00:36:44.40\00:36:45.73 Now what does that mean, that Jesus is going there 00:36:46.07\00:36:48.64 to receive His kingdom? 00:36:48.67\00:36:50.07 What is Christ's kingdom? 00:36:50.41\00:36:52.07 You know, we usually think of His kingdom as a territory. 00:36:52.47\00:36:56.08 The planet earth. 00:36:56.28\00:36:57.61 But really, the kingdom are the subjects 00:36:57.78\00:37:01.05 that belong to His kingdom. 00:37:01.08\00:37:02.55 How does He determine who is a true subject of His kingdom? 00:37:03.02\00:37:06.45 He does it in the what? 00:37:06.62\00:37:08.02 In the judgment. 00:37:08.32\00:37:09.66 So in other words, the Father moves, the judgment sits, 00:37:09.69\00:37:13.53 the books are opened. 00:37:13.56\00:37:14.90 Because now it's going to be shown who is a 00:37:14.93\00:37:17.20 subject of Christ's kingdom. 00:37:17.23\00:37:18.80 And when the judgment is over, the kingdom of Jesus 00:37:18.90\00:37:22.74 is made up because it has been revealed 00:37:22.77\00:37:25.04 who is a subject of His kingdom. 00:37:25.07\00:37:27.48 Are you with me or not? 00:37:27.51\00:37:28.84 Now, Revelation 13 adds its testimony. 00:37:29.08\00:37:33.15 Revelation 13:1-2 has the same beasts as Daniel 7. 00:37:33.92\00:37:39.65 By the way, the dragon has ten horns, 00:37:58.54\00:37:59.91 if you look at Revelation 12, the previous chapter. 00:37:59.94\00:38:02.21 Does that have any relationship with Daniel 7? 00:38:09.82\00:38:11.89 Of course it does. 00:38:12.22\00:38:13.56 Do you have the same sequence of powers? 00:38:13.59\00:38:14.99 Absolutely. 00:38:15.02\00:38:16.36 Notice, you have lion, bear, leopard, dragon, 00:38:16.39\00:38:19.89 ten horns, little horn. 00:38:19.93\00:38:21.26 In Revelation 13 you have lion, bear, leopard, dragon, 00:38:21.73\00:38:25.90 ten horns, beast. 00:38:25.93\00:38:27.60 So the little horn is the same as the beast. 00:38:27.64\00:38:31.07 Now what was the next event after the little horn 00:38:31.34\00:38:33.91 rules 1260 years, after the beast rules 42 months? 00:38:33.94\00:38:37.81 What is the next event? 00:38:37.85\00:38:39.18 Let's go to Revelation 14:6-7. 00:38:39.31\00:38:42.42 Revelation 14:6-7 00:38:42.45\00:38:44.89 It says there... 00:38:45.09\00:38:46.42 Let's stop there for a minute. 00:38:55.70\00:38:57.10 Can people still be saved while the gospel is being preached? 00:38:58.03\00:39:00.54 Well that's kind of a ridiculous question. 00:39:01.24\00:39:02.97 If people can't be saved, why would you preach the gospel? 00:39:03.30\00:39:05.74 So when the first angel is proclaiming his message, 00:39:06.27\00:39:10.21 people can listen to the message, accept it, 00:39:10.71\00:39:13.01 and be saved, right? 00:39:13.05\00:39:14.42 Now notice verse 7. 00:39:14.52\00:39:16.02 I want to show you that the judgment takes place 00:39:16.42\00:39:18.49 while probation is still open. 00:39:18.52\00:39:20.56 While people are still living here on earth, 00:39:20.99\00:39:23.26 before the door of probation closes, 00:39:23.99\00:39:25.99 before Jesus comes, that's when the judgment takes place. 00:39:26.03\00:39:28.83 Notice verse 7. 00:39:28.86\00:39:30.20 It says in verse 7... 00:39:30.23\00:39:31.57 "...for the hour of His judgment will come..." 00:39:37.01\00:39:39.61 That's not what it says. 00:39:40.68\00:39:42.11 It doesn't say, "will come." 00:39:42.14\00:39:43.85 The first angel says, while the gospel is being preached, 00:39:44.11\00:39:47.05 "...the hour of His judgment has come." 00:39:47.08\00:39:49.78 So does the judgment begin while the gospel is being preached? 00:39:49.98\00:39:53.56 Before the second coming of Jesus. 00:39:53.79\00:39:55.66 Absolutely. 00:39:55.72\00:39:57.06 Just like we saw in Daniel 7. 00:39:57.09\00:39:59.66 Now can we specify a little more exactly 00:40:00.20\00:40:04.30 when this judgment begins? 00:40:04.63\00:40:06.07 We know it begins after 1798. 00:40:06.10\00:40:09.20 But can we know the specific date when it was to begin? 00:40:09.80\00:40:13.31 I'm going to go quickly on this because we don't have time 00:40:13.74\00:40:17.65 really to get into all of the chronology. 00:40:17.68\00:40:19.51 I've done this in other lectures that you can acquire 00:40:19.55\00:40:22.12 from Secrets Unsealed. 00:40:22.15\00:40:23.52 But the Bible tells us which month and day 00:40:23.79\00:40:27.99 the Day of Atonement was to begin. 00:40:28.02\00:40:29.69 Notice Leviticus 23:27. 00:40:29.99\00:40:33.19 Leviticus 23:27 gives us the month and the day 00:40:33.23\00:40:37.27 when the judgment or the Day of Atonement began 00:40:37.30\00:40:39.83 in the Old Testament. 00:40:39.87\00:40:41.20 So do we have the day and the month when the Day of Atonement 00:40:56.25\00:40:59.72 was going to begin? 00:40:59.75\00:41:01.09 Absolutely. 00:41:01.12\00:41:02.46 It is the tenth day of what? 00:41:02.49\00:41:04.16 Of the seventh month. 00:41:04.36\00:41:05.69 Now the question is, can we know which year the judgment 00:41:05.73\00:41:09.43 was going to begin? 00:41:09.46\00:41:10.80 Absolutely. 00:41:10.83\00:41:12.17 Daniel 8:14 tells us... 00:41:12.20\00:41:15.70 Now we don't have time to get into all of the chronology, 00:41:23.18\00:41:25.61 but let me just explain that the 2300 days 00:41:25.65\00:41:28.45 began in the year 457 BC. 00:41:28.75\00:41:31.95 The first part of the 2300 days are the 70 weeks. 00:41:32.72\00:41:36.93 Which all scholars agree, practically, that the 70 weeks 00:41:36.96\00:41:42.06 are really 490 years. 00:41:42.16\00:41:44.27 They are weeks that are years. 00:41:44.30\00:41:46.60 And so you go from 457 BC, you go 70 weeks. 00:41:46.74\00:41:50.81 That's 490 years. 00:41:50.84\00:41:52.57 And then beyond that you go 1810 years to complete the 2300 days. 00:41:52.77\00:41:59.78 And it leads you to the year 1844. 00:41:59.81\00:42:03.89 So basically, from 457 BC all the way to 1844, 00:42:04.45\00:42:09.79 that is the period that covers the 2300 days 00:42:09.82\00:42:13.90 that are mentioned in Daniel 8:14. 00:42:13.93\00:42:17.83 So we know then that the year of the judgment 00:42:18.10\00:42:21.00 was going to be when? 00:42:21.04\00:42:22.37 It was going to be in 1844. 00:42:22.40\00:42:24.57 So we would have to look for the day and the month 00:42:24.87\00:42:28.68 in 1844 when this was going to begin. 00:42:28.71\00:42:31.95 And it just so happens that in 1844, 00:42:32.35\00:42:35.32 the tenth day of the seventh month was October 22. 00:42:35.52\00:42:39.89 So we know that the judgment was going to begin 00:42:40.19\00:42:42.92 on October 22, the year 1844. 00:42:43.12\00:42:47.23 Is that after 1798? 00:42:47.26\00:42:49.93 It most certainly is. 00:42:49.96\00:42:51.30 It follows the chronology. 00:42:51.33\00:42:53.30 Now there's another way in which we can approach 00:42:53.77\00:42:56.64 this matter of when the judgment takes place. 00:42:56.67\00:43:00.81 You remember the seven churches of the book 00:43:02.04\00:43:04.01 of Revelation, right? 00:43:04.05\00:43:05.38 Most scholars agree, conservative scholars agree, 00:43:05.68\00:43:08.95 that the seven churches represent seven periods in the 00:43:09.05\00:43:12.35 history of the Christian church. 00:43:12.39\00:43:13.86 Seventh-day Adventists believe that the first church 00:43:14.16\00:43:16.02 is the apostolic church. 00:43:16.06\00:43:17.46 The second church is the church that was persecuted 00:43:17.49\00:43:19.63 by the Roman emperors. 00:43:19.66\00:43:21.00 The third church is Pergamum where apostasy comes into the 00:43:21.03\00:43:24.23 church in the days of Constantine. 00:43:24.27\00:43:26.00 The fourth church, the church that is governed over 00:43:26.23\00:43:29.07 by that woman, Jezebel, represents the period of the 00:43:29.10\00:43:31.74 Roman Catholic papacy. 00:43:31.77\00:43:33.11 The fifth church represents the period of the 00:43:33.41\00:43:36.64 Protestant Reformation when the church is coming 00:43:36.68\00:43:38.81 out of apostasy. 00:43:38.85\00:43:40.18 And the sixth church we believe to represent 00:43:40.45\00:43:43.85 the Millerite movement. 00:43:43.89\00:43:45.35 The church of Philadelphia. 00:43:45.39\00:43:46.86 Now I want you to notice what the Bible has to say about 00:43:47.36\00:43:50.56 the church of Philadelphia. 00:43:50.59\00:43:51.93 Which is the sixth church, 00:43:51.96\00:43:53.33 the church right before the last church; the church of Laodicea. 00:43:53.70\00:43:57.27 Revelation 3:7-8 00:43:57.47\00:43:59.80 Something happens during the period of this church. 00:43:59.83\00:44:02.34 What do you use a key for? 00:44:13.85\00:44:15.22 To open or to close a door, right? 00:44:15.78\00:44:17.79 So it says... 00:44:17.82\00:44:19.19 So is this key going to shut a door 00:44:26.53\00:44:29.03 during the period of the sixth church? 00:44:29.80\00:44:31.57 Yes. Is it going to open another door? 00:44:31.60\00:44:33.37 It most certainly is. 00:44:33.40\00:44:34.74 You say, "Are you sure it's a door?" 00:44:34.80\00:44:36.14 Absolutely. Notice the next verse, verse 8. 00:44:36.17\00:44:38.21 What is it that opened the door? 00:44:43.48\00:44:45.05 The key. 00:44:45.51\00:44:46.85 So under which church is the door opened? 00:44:57.36\00:44:59.73 It is under church number six. 00:45:00.00\00:45:02.66 Which is after the period of the papacy 00:45:02.86\00:45:05.00 and after the period of the Protestant Reformation. 00:45:05.03\00:45:07.60 Are you following me or not? 00:45:07.64\00:45:08.97 During the period of the sixth church 00:45:09.00\00:45:11.34 is where you have the open door. 00:45:11.37\00:45:12.71 Now the question is, where does that open door lead to? 00:45:12.74\00:45:15.34 Well the Sanctuary had three doors. 00:45:15.74\00:45:17.78 The first door was between the camp and the court. 00:45:18.35\00:45:22.05 Could that have been the door that was opened 00:45:22.25\00:45:24.05 during the period of the sixth church 00:45:24.15\00:45:25.59 towards the end of Christian history? 00:45:25.62\00:45:27.19 No. When was that door opened? 00:45:27.59\00:45:30.29 That door was opened when Jesus went in 00:45:31.03\00:45:33.33 to die on the cross, right? 00:45:33.36\00:45:34.70 And to resurrect from the dead. 00:45:34.76\00:45:36.20 That's when He entered the court. 00:45:36.23\00:45:37.63 There was a second door, the door that divided the 00:45:38.10\00:45:40.27 court from the Holy Place. 00:45:40.30\00:45:41.64 Can that be the door that was opened in 1844? 00:45:41.94\00:45:44.67 No. Why not? 00:45:44.84\00:45:46.17 Because Jesus entered that door into the Holy Place 00:45:46.21\00:45:48.88 when He ascended to heaven. 00:45:49.11\00:45:50.51 So let me ask you, how many doors are left? 00:45:51.01\00:45:53.18 There's only one door left. 00:45:53.42\00:45:55.02 The door that divides the Holy from the Most Holy Place. 00:45:55.05\00:45:58.39 So under the sixth church, it must be the door that 00:45:58.49\00:46:01.29 leads to the Most Holy Place that is opened. 00:46:01.32\00:46:03.96 And which door is closed? 00:46:03.99\00:46:05.59 The door that is closed is the door to the Holy Place 00:46:05.83\00:46:10.10 of the Sanctuary. 00:46:10.13\00:46:11.47 Now here's something very interesting. 00:46:11.67\00:46:13.47 If you study Revelation 11, you're going to discover... 00:46:14.10\00:46:18.14 Actually it begins with chapter 8 00:46:18.17\00:46:20.68 all the way through chapter 11. 00:46:20.71\00:46:22.04 You have seven trumpets. 00:46:22.08\00:46:23.61 The seven trumpets cover the same time period 00:46:24.01\00:46:26.82 as the churches, but it emphasizes different events 00:46:26.85\00:46:29.65 during that large time period between the apostolic church 00:46:29.68\00:46:33.02 and the end of time. 00:46:33.22\00:46:34.56 At the moment of the sixth trumpet, listen carefully now, 00:46:35.46\00:46:38.73 we're going to see what was opened. 00:46:39.89\00:46:41.33 Sixth church, opened door. 00:46:41.43\00:46:43.67 Sixth trumpet, we're going to see where the 00:46:43.83\00:46:45.83 open door leads to. 00:46:45.87\00:46:47.20 Revelation 11:19. Revelation 11:19. 00:46:47.24\00:46:52.11 It says, "Then the temple of God was..." What? 00:46:52.34\00:46:55.64 So if it was opened, what condition was it in 00:46:56.44\00:46:59.35 before it was opened? 00:46:59.38\00:47:00.72 It was closed. 00:47:00.75\00:47:02.08 So it says... 00:47:02.12\00:47:03.45 And what was seen in the temple when the door was opened? 00:47:06.72\00:47:09.66 Where was the ark of the covenant? 00:47:15.53\00:47:17.30 In which apartment of the Sanctuary? 00:47:18.23\00:47:20.27 In the Most Holy Place. 00:47:20.67\00:47:22.30 So which door is opened in 1844 during the period of 00:47:22.57\00:47:26.11 the sixth trumpet and the sixth church? 00:47:26.14\00:47:28.28 It is the door that leads to where? 00:47:28.54\00:47:30.55 That leads to the Most Holy Place. 00:47:30.75\00:47:32.81 Is there biblical evidence as to when the judgment 00:47:32.85\00:47:36.28 was going to begin? 00:47:36.32\00:47:37.65 Absolutely. 00:47:37.69\00:47:39.02 Now the question is, where does the judgment take place? 00:47:39.25\00:47:42.86 We already answered this question, but let's just 00:47:42.89\00:47:45.99 read a couple of text. 00:47:46.03\00:47:47.63 Daniel 7:13-14 00:47:47.76\00:47:50.77 We already read it. It says... 00:47:50.80\00:47:52.13 Now He's not coming at His second coming. 00:47:58.14\00:48:00.01 It says here that He came where? 00:48:00.24\00:48:02.08 To the Ancient of Days. 00:48:02.18\00:48:04.01 So the question is, where does the judgment take place? 00:48:22.03\00:48:25.47 In heaven where the Ancient of Days is. 00:48:25.50\00:48:27.97 Where the ten thousand times ten thousand are. 00:48:28.14\00:48:31.34 That's where the judgment sits and the books are opened. 00:48:31.37\00:48:34.61 The judgment does not take place on earth. 00:48:34.84\00:48:36.91 The judgment takes place where? In heaven. 00:48:37.01\00:48:39.71 Do you remember the parable of Matthew 22 00:48:40.12\00:48:42.95 where this man sneaked into the wedding hall 00:48:43.05\00:48:45.82 without the garment? 00:48:45.85\00:48:47.19 Do you think that's describing the second coming of Jesus? 00:48:48.12\00:48:50.66 You know, Jesus comes and He takes His people to heaven. 00:48:50.69\00:48:53.33 And then He starts examining the garments 00:48:53.43\00:48:55.36 and He says, "How did you sneak in here?" 00:48:55.40\00:48:57.23 Of course not. 00:48:57.27\00:48:58.60 Jesus isn't going to take to heaven anyone 00:48:58.63\00:49:00.70 who doesn't have the garment. 00:49:00.74\00:49:02.07 This is describing the examination 00:49:02.30\00:49:05.34 of the garments of people, the spiritual garments 00:49:05.37\00:49:07.84 of people, before Jesus comes again. 00:49:07.88\00:49:10.91 You see, He's going to determine if you're covered with the robe 00:49:11.15\00:49:14.52 of Christ's righteousness by examining your case 00:49:14.55\00:49:17.92 before He takes you to heaven. 00:49:17.95\00:49:19.92 Are you following me or not? 00:49:20.22\00:49:21.56 And so the judgment takes place where? 00:49:21.82\00:49:24.63 It doesn't take place on earth. 00:49:24.73\00:49:27.03 It takes place in heaven. 00:49:27.06\00:49:29.36 Now here's another question. 00:49:29.86\00:49:31.30 What evidence is examined in the judgment? 00:49:31.87\00:49:34.94 It is not the faith of individuals that is 00:49:36.17\00:49:38.87 examined in the judgment. 00:49:38.91\00:49:40.38 It is rather the works of people 00:49:40.84\00:49:43.45 that are examined in the judgment. 00:49:43.71\00:49:45.71 You see, we are saved by grace through faith, 00:49:45.88\00:49:50.02 but the Bible says that we will be judged by our works. 00:49:50.12\00:49:53.69 You say, "Is this really a contradiction, Pastor Bohr?" 00:49:54.02\00:49:57.26 No. 00:49:57.53\00:49:58.86 You see, faith is the invisible side of works. 00:49:58.89\00:50:02.33 And works are the visible side of faith. 00:50:03.03\00:50:05.77 Some Adventist scholars are dualists. 00:50:06.63\00:50:10.21 When it comes to the state of the dead, they say, 00:50:10.64\00:50:13.41 "Oh, you can't have the spirit without the body. 00:50:13.44\00:50:16.61 They have to go together." 00:50:16.64\00:50:18.05 But when it comes to righteousness by faith, 00:50:18.45\00:50:20.25 they say, "Oh, it's faith alone. 00:50:20.28\00:50:22.28 And works have nothing to do with it." 00:50:22.32\00:50:24.05 Well, I'll tell you what. 00:50:24.49\00:50:25.82 James begs to differ with these anthropological dualists 00:50:25.92\00:50:31.16 when it comes to righteousness by faith. 00:50:31.19\00:50:33.16 Notice James 2:14-17, and then we'll read verses 20-26. 00:50:33.53\00:50:39.20 The Bible is clear. 00:50:39.23\00:50:40.57 This is in the Bible, by the way. 00:50:40.60\00:50:42.17 You know, we need James along with the apostle Paul, don't we? 00:50:42.27\00:50:46.17 Was James just as inspired as Paul? 00:50:46.21\00:50:48.48 Of course. 00:50:48.51\00:50:49.84 Notice verse 14. 00:50:49.88\00:50:51.21 So if a person doesn't have works, they're only 00:50:58.12\00:50:59.82 saying they have faith, right? 00:50:59.85\00:51:01.32 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord.'" 00:51:01.76\00:51:05.09 Then James asks, "Can faith save him?" 00:51:06.19\00:51:08.56 "Can that kind of faith without works save him?" 00:51:08.60\00:51:10.90 Now he's going to talk about the works. 00:51:12.17\00:51:13.64 "Thus also faith by itself, if it does not 00:51:26.05\00:51:29.28 have works is..." What? 00:51:29.32\00:51:30.69 "...is dead." 00:51:30.72\00:51:32.05 Wow, some people... Martin Luther didn't like that. 00:51:37.59\00:51:40.00 He wanted to get rid of the book of James. 00:51:40.03\00:51:42.06 Because it says that Abraham was justified by works. 00:51:42.36\00:51:45.33 We need to understand what he's saying. 00:51:45.43\00:51:46.94 He's really saying that he was justified by a faith that works. 00:51:47.10\00:51:50.31 In the context, isn't that what he's saying? 00:51:50.34\00:51:52.11 Can faith exist without works? No. 00:51:52.87\00:51:54.74 He's saying he was justified by a faith that works. 00:51:54.78\00:51:58.35 And notice once again, verse 22... 00:51:58.61\00:52:00.92 "...faith was made perfect." Or complete, in other words. 00:52:05.69\00:52:08.92 Notice the context once again. 00:52:21.64\00:52:23.41 He is justified by a faith that works. 00:52:23.71\00:52:26.98 Because a faith that does not work is not really faith. 00:52:27.01\00:52:29.91 Are you following me? 00:52:30.11\00:52:31.45 Now notice what he says in verse 25. 00:52:31.58\00:52:33.72 And now here comes the key verse. 00:52:44.23\00:52:45.86 So you can't say, "Oh, you have to have the body 00:52:54.47\00:52:56.91 and the spirit together. 00:52:56.94\00:52:58.34 They can't exist independently." and say, "Yeah, but you can 00:52:59.07\00:53:02.18 have only faith and no works." 00:53:02.21\00:53:04.35 They have to go together, in other words. 00:53:04.38\00:53:07.02 And those who say, "When it comes to the state of the dead, 00:53:07.05\00:53:09.68 we put them together. 00:53:09.72\00:53:11.05 When it comes to righteousness by faith, 00:53:11.09\00:53:12.42 you know, we'll just separate faith and works." 00:53:12.45\00:53:14.42 You can't do that, because faith and works are a package deal. 00:53:14.46\00:53:18.33 So what will be examined in the judgment? 00:53:18.73\00:53:20.90 Our works. 00:53:20.96\00:53:22.30 Because our works show if our faith was genuine or not. 00:53:22.33\00:53:26.67 Notice Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. 00:53:26.84\00:53:30.91 Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 00:53:30.94\00:53:34.34 You see, folks, when people repent and confess their sins, 00:53:53.43\00:53:56.36 and trust in Jesus, the sincerity of their experience 00:53:56.40\00:54:00.10 is not examined when they repent. 00:54:00.14\00:54:03.27 Jesus takes them at their word. 00:54:04.01\00:54:05.97 He says, "I'll take you at your word. 00:54:06.01\00:54:07.51 I'll forgive you." 00:54:07.54\00:54:08.88 But let me ask you something. 00:54:08.91\00:54:10.25 Can forgiveness be revoked? 00:54:10.28\00:54:12.41 Can God forgive someone in the daily service 00:54:13.08\00:54:16.05 and then revoke their forgiveness? 00:54:16.08\00:54:18.45 Absolutely. 00:54:18.59\00:54:19.92 You say, "Where is the biblical evidence for that?" 00:54:19.95\00:54:22.06 The biblical evidence is found in two passages. 00:54:22.82\00:54:25.33 I don't think we're going to be able to get to one of them, 00:54:25.36\00:54:27.76 so I'll just mention the reference. 00:54:27.80\00:54:29.36 Ezekiel 33:13-16 00:54:29.40\00:54:32.70 You'll want to read that passage. 00:54:32.73\00:54:34.17 Ezekiel 33:13-16 00:54:34.20\00:54:36.54 But what I want to read is the parable of the two debtors. 00:54:36.77\00:54:39.77 Have you ever heard about that parable of the two debtors? 00:54:39.81\00:54:41.84 We'll begin in Matthew 18:23 and following. 00:54:42.14\00:54:46.21 The king represents God. 00:54:49.48\00:54:51.02 "...who wanted to settle accounts..." 00:54:51.29\00:54:53.05 That's the judgment. 00:54:53.09\00:54:54.42 Are these people who claim to serve God? 00:54:55.72\00:54:58.29 Yeah, they're not unbelievers. 00:54:58.49\00:54:59.93 They're people who claim to serve God. 00:54:59.96\00:55:02.06 It was a debt that could not be paid. 00:55:08.44\00:55:10.14 It was basically unpayable. 00:55:10.17\00:55:12.27 So he said, "You're going to receive the punishment 00:55:22.12\00:55:23.92 for not paying your debts." 00:55:24.05\00:55:25.75 What does this individual do? Verse 26... 00:55:26.69\00:55:28.92 And the master is saying, "Forget it. 00:55:35.16\00:55:36.50 You can't pay this debt. It's impossible to pay." 00:55:36.53\00:55:39.20 Verse 27... 00:55:39.23\00:55:40.57 Was this man forgiven, yes or no? 00:55:49.41\00:55:51.05 He was forgiven. 00:55:51.41\00:55:52.75 Listen carefully. 00:55:52.78\00:55:54.12 Verse 28... 00:55:54.15\00:55:55.48 A small debt that could be paid. 00:56:01.39\00:56:03.93 It was the equivalent of a hundred days work 00:56:03.96\00:56:06.13 for the common laborer. 00:56:06.16\00:56:07.50 And so he finds this servant, a fellow servant. 00:56:07.53\00:56:10.60 Is he doing the same thing as this individual who had been 00:56:22.64\00:56:25.21 forgiven a large debt? 00:56:25.25\00:56:26.61 Absolutely. 00:56:26.65\00:56:27.98 Now notice this... 00:56:28.02\00:56:29.35 Interesting. 00:56:36.52\00:56:37.86 Verse 31, "So when his fellow servants..." 00:56:37.89\00:56:40.10 Which represents the angels, by the way. 00:56:40.13\00:56:41.86 Can forgiveness be revoked if it's seen that we 00:57:21.64\00:57:25.04 do not treat others according to the mercy that 00:57:25.07\00:57:27.41 God has shown us? 00:57:27.44\00:57:28.78 Forgiveness will be revoked if it is shown 00:57:29.18\00:57:31.65 that our works contradict our faith. 00:57:31.68\00:57:34.15 Because our works show if our faith is what? 00:57:35.28\00:57:38.19 Genuine. 00:57:38.22\00:57:39.55 Are there many individuals who claim to be believers 00:57:39.79\00:57:42.56 that will be found wanting in the investigative judgment? 00:57:42.59\00:57:45.73 Absolutely. 00:57:45.93\00:57:47.26 Because they gloried in the forgiveness that God gave them, 00:57:47.30\00:57:51.93 but they were not able to forgive others. 00:57:52.53\00:57:54.30 You know, this man had just crocodile tears. 00:57:54.40\00:57:56.71 Because he was afraid of the punishment 00:57:57.01\00:57:58.77 he was going to receive. 00:57:58.81\00:58:00.14 He was not really sorry for the sin that he had committed. 00:58:00.18\00:58:04.11
