Well greetings, everyone. 00:00:15.54\00:00:16.88 I'm glad to see you all out today to study 00:00:16.91\00:00:19.55 a very important subject. 00:00:19.58\00:00:20.98 Number five in this series on the great controversy between 00:00:21.02\00:00:25.35 good and evil, and how God solves that problem 00:00:25.39\00:00:27.76 through the Sanctuary service. 00:00:27.79\00:00:29.42 Before we begin our study this evening, 00:00:29.82\00:00:32.09 we want to ask for the Lord's guidance as we study together. 00:00:32.29\00:00:35.93 So I invite you to bow your heads with me as we ask for 00:00:35.96\00:00:39.47 the Lord's blessing as we study. 00:00:39.50\00:00:41.20 Father in heaven, thank You for the privilege of being here. 00:00:41.24\00:00:44.21 We need Your wisdom, we need Your knowledge, 00:00:44.67\00:00:47.44 we need understanding. 00:00:47.48\00:00:48.81 And so we ask that the Holy Spirit, through the ministry 00:00:48.84\00:00:51.81 of the angels, will be in our midst to enlighten our minds 00:00:51.85\00:00:55.22 and open our hearts. 00:00:55.25\00:00:56.58 And we thank You for hearing our prayer, for we ask it 00:00:56.62\00:00:58.89 in the precious name of Jesus, amen. 00:00:58.92\00:01:01.59 I'd like to begin our study today by reading a passage 00:01:03.22\00:01:06.73 that all of us probably can repeat from memory. 00:01:06.76\00:01:10.00 I'm referring to John 14:1-3. 00:01:10.43\00:01:14.74 What Seventh-day Adventist would not be able to repeat 00:01:15.30\00:01:18.11 those verses from memory? 00:01:18.14\00:01:20.61 Anyway, this is what it says, Jesus is speaking... 00:01:20.94\00:01:24.31 Notice, Jesus doesn't say, "I'm going to heaven 00:01:35.49\00:01:37.49 to prepare mansions." 00:01:37.53\00:01:38.86 The mansions were there when Jesus said it. 00:01:38.89\00:01:41.26 So He says... 00:01:41.46\00:01:42.80 And you know, I'm not saying that Jesus didn't go to heaven 00:01:53.34\00:01:56.41 to prepare a beautiful place for us to go to. 00:01:56.44\00:01:58.81 But that is not the primary meaning. 00:01:59.01\00:02:01.38 That might be a secondary meaning. 00:02:01.42\00:02:03.12 Jesus went to heaven to prepare a place for us 00:02:03.69\00:02:06.99 through His work in the Holy and the Most Holy Place, 00:02:07.19\00:02:11.16 which is described in the book of Hebrews 00:02:11.19\00:02:13.19 and also described in the book of Revelation. 00:02:13.40\00:02:16.33 So He continues saying... 00:02:16.50\00:02:18.00 Now we've studied so far about the work of Jesus in the camp. 00:02:38.19\00:02:42.12 He came to live His perfect life, perfectly righteous life, 00:02:42.16\00:02:45.99 in the camp. 00:02:46.03\00:02:47.36 Then He moved to the court. 00:02:47.40\00:02:49.06 And He died, so to speak, at the altar of sacrifice. 00:02:49.10\00:02:52.60 He bore the sins of the whole world. 00:02:52.80\00:02:55.04 Then at the laver, Jesus resurrected from the dead 00:02:55.30\00:02:58.54 so that He could enter His new phase of ministry 00:02:58.94\00:03:02.14 in the Holy Place of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:03:02.51\00:03:05.71 So we followed Him from the camp to the altar, 00:03:05.88\00:03:09.82 to the laver. 00:03:09.92\00:03:11.25 And now we are going to follow Him into the Holy Place. 00:03:11.29\00:03:14.06 That's where Jesus went to prepare a place for us. 00:03:14.09\00:03:18.76 Now somebody might ask, "Why would He go there 00:03:19.06\00:03:21.06 to prepare a place for us? 00:03:21.10\00:03:23.10 Wasn't everything resolved at the cross?" 00:03:23.13\00:03:25.93 Allow me to read you a statement from Ellen White, 00:03:26.47\00:03:29.30 it's found in, Desire of Ages, page 761, 00:03:29.34\00:03:32.17 where she explains that even after the death of Jesus, 00:03:32.77\00:03:36.24 there were things to explain to the heavenly beings 00:03:36.54\00:03:39.95 about the great controversy. 00:03:40.28\00:03:42.38 And man had to make a choice. 00:03:42.58\00:03:45.92 I read now from, Desire of Ages, 761. 00:03:46.65\00:03:49.82 And now comes the particular part of the statement 00:04:17.35\00:04:19.55 that I would like to emphasize. 00:04:19.59\00:04:21.22 "He," that is man, "must choose whom he will serve." 00:04:21.62\00:04:27.83 So the next stage in the ministry of Jesus 00:04:28.13\00:04:30.63 has to do with man's choice. 00:04:30.67\00:04:32.40 The first stages have nothing to do with man's choice. 00:04:32.73\00:04:35.70 It has to do with God's choice. 00:04:36.14\00:04:37.97 Isn't that true that Jesus came to this world, 00:04:38.37\00:04:40.54 that was God's choice? 00:04:40.58\00:04:41.91 We didn't ask Him to come, right? 00:04:41.94\00:04:43.28 Isn't it true that Jesus went to the cross and died 00:04:43.45\00:04:45.91 because of God's grace, not because we requested it? 00:04:45.95\00:04:48.88 Isn't it true that Jesus resurrected without us 00:04:49.25\00:04:52.29 asking Him to resurrect? 00:04:52.32\00:04:53.96 Of course. 00:04:53.99\00:04:55.32 The first three stages Jesus does for every single 00:04:55.36\00:04:58.09 human being who has ever lived. 00:04:58.13\00:04:59.79 It's God's initiative apart from the choice of man. 00:04:59.83\00:05:03.57 But the last stages of the ministry of Christ 00:05:04.03\00:05:06.94 has to do with man's response. 00:05:06.97\00:05:09.20 In other words, it has to do with man's choice. 00:05:09.30\00:05:11.97 And therefore, Ellen White explains, "Man must choose 00:05:12.14\00:05:16.34 whom he will serve." 00:05:16.38\00:05:19.58 So the work of Jesus in the Holy Place has to do 00:05:19.68\00:05:22.65 with man's response or man's choice. 00:05:22.68\00:05:26.05 The first stages of Christ's ministration 00:05:26.09\00:05:28.59 don't have to do with man's choice. 00:05:28.62\00:05:30.49 It has to do with God's initiative. 00:05:30.53\00:05:33.36 Now a big question that comes up when we discuss 00:05:33.73\00:05:36.97 what happened at the cross is whether the atonement 00:05:37.00\00:05:40.87 was finished at the cross. 00:05:40.90\00:05:42.77 You know, back in, I think it was 1979, Desmond Ford 00:05:42.97\00:05:46.98 at Pacific Union College argued that the atonement 00:05:47.01\00:05:50.41 was finished at the cross and that the Seventh-day Adventist 00:05:50.45\00:05:53.21 Church is wrong in saying that Jesus went to heaven 00:05:53.25\00:05:55.68 to perform a work of atonement. 00:05:55.72\00:05:57.62 Now Ellen White seems to talk out of both sides of her mouth. 00:05:58.19\00:06:01.19 And I underline the word, "seems." 00:06:01.22\00:06:04.36 She seems to talk out of both sides of her mouth 00:06:04.76\00:06:07.80 when she addresses whether the atonement was completed 00:06:07.96\00:06:11.83 on the cross or not. 00:06:11.87\00:06:13.80 In some statements she appears to say that the atonement 00:06:14.10\00:06:17.67 was finished at the cross of Calvary. 00:06:17.71\00:06:19.54 In other statements she seems to say, or she does say, 00:06:19.87\00:06:23.55 that Jesus went to heaven to complete the work of atonement. 00:06:23.58\00:06:27.95 Now, there is no contradiction in the writings of Ellen White. 00:06:28.18\00:06:32.19 The contradiction is in the minds of careless 00:06:32.69\00:06:35.66 and superficial students of the writings of Ellen White, 00:06:35.69\00:06:38.86 and of Scripture, I might say. 00:06:38.89\00:06:41.16 When you look at these statements within their 00:06:41.43\00:06:43.90 legitimate context and within their legitimate emphasis, 00:06:43.93\00:06:47.67 we find that there is no contradiction whatsoever. 00:06:47.84\00:06:50.91 Allow me to read you, first of all, a statement from 00:06:51.24\00:06:53.78 Ellen White where she states that the atonement 00:06:53.81\00:06:56.54 was finished at the cross. 00:06:56.58\00:06:58.05 This is found in the book, Desire of Ages, page 834. 00:06:58.65\00:07:02.38 This is when Jesus goes and appears before His Father 00:07:02.42\00:07:05.15 at the ascension in the Holy Place. 00:07:05.25\00:07:07.62 "Now..." This is after His ascension. 00:07:18.43\00:07:20.50 "Now He declares..." 00:07:20.54\00:07:22.67 Does Ellen White teach that Jesus completed the work 00:07:31.58\00:07:35.02 of redemption when He said, "It is finished"? 00:07:35.05\00:07:36.89 Yes she does. 00:07:37.09\00:07:38.42 It's very clear. 00:07:38.45\00:07:39.79 Once again, she says that Jesus expresses to His Father, 00:07:39.82\00:07:43.76 "I have completed the work of Redemption..." 00:07:43.79\00:07:46.93 That's the first statement where Ellen White says 00:07:55.90\00:07:58.54 the work of salvation was completed at the cross. 00:07:58.57\00:08:02.98 But now I want to read the other statement which appears 00:08:03.28\00:08:06.28 to be contradictory, but really is not when you 00:08:06.31\00:08:08.78 study it carefully. 00:08:08.82\00:08:10.15 Great Controversy, page 489. 00:08:10.25\00:08:12.95 Is that what Jesus went to heaven to do? 00:08:18.56\00:08:20.33 His intercession? Yes. 00:08:20.93\00:08:22.33 Is His intercession as essential as His death on the cross? 00:08:32.17\00:08:35.71 Yes. These two statements are talking about 00:08:35.91\00:08:38.25 two different things; the cross and His intercession. 00:08:38.28\00:08:40.98 She continues saying... 00:08:41.02\00:08:42.35 So see, He performed a work on earth, but He went to heaven 00:08:51.79\00:08:54.96 to complete the work. 00:08:55.00\00:08:56.33 Now we're going to see in a moment what this means. 00:08:56.36\00:08:59.40 But allow me to finish the statement. 00:08:59.63\00:09:02.07 She continues saying, "We must by faith enter within the veil." 00:09:02.44\00:09:06.94 That's an important statement. 00:09:07.48\00:09:08.94 What did Jesus go to heaven to do? 00:09:08.98\00:09:10.98 He went to heaven to represent those who... What? 00:09:11.71\00:09:14.92 ...go to Him within the veil. 00:09:15.15\00:09:17.79 Ellen White is not talking about God's side of the equation. 00:09:17.82\00:09:21.82 Ellen White is talking about man's response by faith. 00:09:21.86\00:09:24.93 Are you following me? 00:09:24.96\00:09:26.29 Let's go to the statement again. 00:09:26.33\00:09:27.83 She says, "We must by faith enter within the veil..." 00:09:28.13\00:09:31.43 Hebrews 6:20 00:09:33.90\00:09:35.40 "...and through His mediation..." 00:09:57.06\00:09:59.56 Once again, it's talking about His intercession 00:09:59.66\00:10:01.93 in the Holy Place. 00:10:01.96\00:10:03.30 Now, how do we understand this then? 00:10:15.54\00:10:18.18 Let's ask another question. And it's this: 00:10:18.81\00:10:21.88 Did Jesus forgive people's sins at the cross? 00:10:22.38\00:10:26.12 This is going to help us answer the previous question, 00:10:26.15\00:10:28.52 whether the atonement was finished at the cross or not. 00:10:28.56\00:10:31.99 Did Jesus forgive the sins of individuals at the cross? 00:10:32.03\00:10:36.33 You know, surprisingly when I ask this question 00:10:36.63\00:10:39.27 in Seventh-day Adventist churches, most of the time 00:10:39.30\00:10:42.57 the answer is a resounding, "Yes. 00:10:42.60\00:10:45.84 Jesus forgave the sins of individuals at the cross." 00:10:45.87\00:10:49.88 But the answer, "Yes," is dangerously wrong. 00:10:49.91\00:10:54.55 You see, Jesus, by His righteous life and His death 00:10:55.12\00:10:58.85 for sin, made sufficient provision to forgive the sins 00:10:59.09\00:11:04.13 of every single person on planet earth. 00:11:04.16\00:11:06.59 As provision. 00:11:06.76\00:11:08.23 But the provision must be personally claimed. 00:11:09.23\00:11:13.60 As we shall see in this particular lesson that we're 00:11:14.24\00:11:17.31 studying, when the sinner repents, confesses His sin, 00:11:17.34\00:11:22.61 trusts in Jesus, and is baptized, Jesus takes His 00:11:23.11\00:11:28.22 perfect life and His death for sin and He places those 00:11:28.25\00:11:33.05 on the sinner's account. 00:11:33.15\00:11:35.49 And God looks upon that sinner as if he had never sinned. 00:11:35.82\00:11:39.89 To use the words of the apostle Paul, 00:11:40.13\00:11:42.46 that sinner is accepted in the Beloved because he has claimed 00:11:42.56\00:11:48.44 that which Jesus did by His life and by His death. 00:11:48.47\00:11:53.31 When Jesus went to heaven, He went into the Holy Place 00:11:53.71\00:11:57.81 and He began His work as Intercessor on behalf of those 00:11:57.85\00:12:02.52 who repent, confess their sins, and trust in Jesus Christ 00:12:02.55\00:12:07.92 as a personal Savior. 00:12:07.96\00:12:09.72 This is an individual choice. 00:12:09.82\00:12:12.56 This is the response of man. 00:12:12.66\00:12:14.90 Are you understanding the first steps in the plan of redemption 00:12:15.40\00:12:18.70 are God's initiative by grace without our request? 00:12:18.73\00:12:22.44 But what Jesus did in the camp and in the court 00:12:22.60\00:12:25.37 must be appropriated by faith, it must be claimed by faith. 00:12:25.41\00:12:29.41 Or else it does not have any value for us personally. 00:12:29.44\00:12:34.62 According to the apostle Paul, David and Abraham, 00:12:35.22\00:12:38.79 for example, were justified by faith even in the Old Testament. 00:12:38.82\00:12:43.29 Did David and Abraham repent of their sins? 00:12:43.96\00:12:46.66 Yes they did. 00:12:46.80\00:12:48.13 Did they confess their sins? 00:12:48.16\00:12:50.07 Most certainly they did. 00:12:50.27\00:12:51.77 Did they have faith in Jesus Christ? 00:12:52.03\00:12:55.30 Yes. 00:12:55.44\00:12:56.77 The only difference between now and then is that 00:12:56.81\00:12:58.71 they claimed Christ as a future Redeemer, 00:12:58.74\00:13:02.78 whereas we claim Christ as one who already 00:13:02.81\00:13:05.75 paid the penalty for sin. 00:13:05.78\00:13:07.25 But the faith in Old Testament times was focused on a 00:13:07.35\00:13:11.12 future Jesus, and our faith is focused on the Jesus who came. 00:13:11.15\00:13:15.52 But all of the Old Testament heroes had to appropriate Jesus, 00:13:15.56\00:13:20.43 had to accept the provision, in order for the provision 00:13:20.46\00:13:23.87 to benefit them. 00:13:23.90\00:13:25.63 I hope you're understanding what we're saying. 00:13:25.67\00:13:27.40 Now let me give you an example so that we can understand 00:13:27.70\00:13:31.44 this particular relationship between the finished 00:13:31.97\00:13:35.34 work of Christ in terms of His life and His death... 00:13:35.38\00:13:37.88 He does not need to live again, He does not need to die again. 00:13:37.91\00:13:41.15 That happened once for all. 00:13:41.18\00:13:42.62 God's initiative. 00:13:42.65\00:13:43.99 ...and His completing the work, which means now He intercedes 00:13:44.02\00:13:47.29 for those who claim what He did in the camp 00:13:47.32\00:13:49.92 and in the court. 00:13:49.96\00:13:51.29 The most famous verse in the Bible, of course, is John 3:16. 00:13:51.33\00:13:56.97 Hands down. 00:13:57.53\00:13:58.87 Everybody that I know has this committed to memory. 00:13:58.90\00:14:03.51 But most people underline the first half of the verse. 00:14:03.77\00:14:07.58 And they kind of forget that there's 00:14:08.04\00:14:09.48 a second half to the verse. 00:14:09.51\00:14:10.95 Now what does the verse say? 00:14:11.11\00:14:12.65 Did the world ask God to send His Son? 00:14:17.92\00:14:20.29 Or was that God's initiative by grace, 00:14:20.62\00:14:22.92 by His love and His mercy? 00:14:22.96\00:14:24.33 It was totally God's initiative that He sent Him. 00:14:24.36\00:14:27.63 But now notice the response. 00:14:27.80\00:14:29.60 This is the Holy Place, by the way, where we're going now. 00:14:29.63\00:14:32.50 He became incarnate, He lived a perfect life, 00:14:35.04\00:14:37.64 He died for sin, He resurrected on earth. 00:14:37.67\00:14:40.04 But now comes the second half of the verse. 00:14:40.08\00:14:42.24 The second half says... 00:14:42.28\00:14:43.61 That is the human response to the initiative of God. 00:14:49.38\00:14:52.62 I hope you're understanding. 00:14:52.99\00:14:54.32 Now let me give you an illustration so that you can 00:14:54.42\00:14:56.26 understand what I mean. 00:14:56.29\00:14:57.63 I want you to imagine the owner of a bank. 00:14:58.33\00:15:02.53 Now the owner of this bank has limitless resources. 00:15:03.20\00:15:06.57 I mean, there's no limit whatsoever to the financial 00:15:06.60\00:15:09.70 resources that the bank owner has. 00:15:09.74\00:15:12.04 And this bank owner, as he looks upon this earth, 00:15:12.41\00:15:15.04 he's filled with sorrow and grief 00:15:15.08\00:15:17.88 as he beholds the inhabitants of planet earth 00:15:17.91\00:15:20.92 burdened down with debt, all kinds of debt. 00:15:21.08\00:15:24.92 And so he, in his mercy, says, "I'm going to set up an account 00:15:25.22\00:15:29.06 in my bank that has enough capital in it that anyone who 00:15:29.09\00:15:33.66 comes to the bank can claim the capital, 00:15:33.70\00:15:36.36 and all of their debts will be wiped out. 00:15:36.40\00:15:39.97 Every single person on planet earth can come to the bank. 00:15:40.44\00:15:43.51 I'm depositing enough resources in this account 00:15:43.54\00:15:46.57 for everyone's debt to be canceled." 00:15:46.68\00:15:49.51 You're talking mortgages, you're talking credit cards, 00:15:49.68\00:15:53.08 you're talking educational loans, 00:15:53.11\00:15:55.05 you're talking department store credit cards, 00:15:55.08\00:15:57.69 you're talking about auto loans, and all the rest. 00:15:57.72\00:16:00.89 There's enough capital in that account to pay 00:16:00.92\00:16:04.46 every single person's debts. 00:16:04.49\00:16:06.93 But let me ask you, what good would this do 00:16:07.46\00:16:09.56 if no one knew that the capital was available? 00:16:09.90\00:16:12.83 And so the bank owner says, "I've got to let everybody 00:16:13.30\00:16:15.80 know about this." 00:16:15.84\00:16:17.17 And so by word of mouth, television, radio, the internet, 00:16:17.21\00:16:22.01 billboards, television, Twitter, Facebook, What's Up, 00:16:22.04\00:16:26.48 and every other means, he says, "I'm going announce to the world 00:16:26.51\00:16:29.98 that there's this account. 00:16:30.02\00:16:31.35 And there's enough there to pay the debts of every single person 00:16:31.39\00:16:35.12 on planet earth." 00:16:35.16\00:16:36.56 There's no reason for anybody to be in debt. 00:16:39.09\00:16:41.03 Is that correct? 00:16:41.06\00:16:42.40 Right. 00:16:42.43\00:16:43.77 But there's a catch. 00:16:43.80\00:16:45.13 Now listen to what the catch is. 00:16:45.17\00:16:46.50 The debtors must, number one, be truly sorry that 00:16:47.30\00:16:51.31 they incurred the debt. 00:16:51.34\00:16:52.67 And they must come to the bank owner and they must confess 00:16:53.78\00:16:56.68 that they were wrong in living beyond their means. 00:16:56.71\00:16:59.75 And they must trust that the bank owner 00:17:00.52\00:17:02.68 will keep his word in applying the capital to all of their 00:17:02.72\00:17:07.36 debts so that their debts can be canceled. 00:17:07.39\00:17:09.69 And they must sign a document officially saying 00:17:10.36\00:17:15.16 that their debt was totally canceled and totally paid for. 00:17:15.20\00:17:19.67 Now what if a person doesn't come to the bank 00:17:21.37\00:17:23.61 to claim the capital? 00:17:23.71\00:17:25.04 Will it do them any good? 00:17:25.97\00:17:27.48 Will their debts be paid? 00:17:28.08\00:17:29.78 No. 00:17:30.05\00:17:31.38 You see, the bank owner, by his mercy and initiative, 00:17:31.41\00:17:34.15 sets up the account. 00:17:34.55\00:17:35.95 But only those who come and say they're sorry 00:17:36.42\00:17:40.42 that they got in debt, and they confess that it was wrong 00:17:40.46\00:17:43.83 to get in debt, and they trust the bank owner 00:17:43.86\00:17:46.66 that he's serious when He says that the debt can be canceled, 00:17:46.70\00:17:50.07 and the individual officially signs, 00:17:50.17\00:17:52.73 that that individual's debt is canceled. 00:17:53.13\00:17:56.50 And so, the work that Jesus performed in the camp 00:17:57.11\00:18:00.71 and in the court is for everyone. 00:18:00.74\00:18:03.61 Jesus deposited enough capital in the bank of heaven 00:18:03.91\00:18:07.58 through His life and through His death to save every single 00:18:07.68\00:18:10.85 sinner who has ever lived in the history of planet earth. 00:18:10.89\00:18:13.99 There's sufficient capital there. 00:18:14.02\00:18:16.26 However, only those who come to Jesus in repentance, 00:18:17.19\00:18:23.30 confessing their sin, trusting that Jesus will keep His word, 00:18:23.63\00:18:29.14 and making it official through baptism, we're going to notice, 00:18:29.57\00:18:35.44 will benefit from what Jesus did. 00:18:35.61\00:18:39.21 Are you following me? 00:18:39.25\00:18:40.58 Now, let's review something we studied concerning 00:18:40.82\00:18:45.12 the resurrection of Christ. 00:18:45.15\00:18:47.29 Let's go to 1 Corinthians 15:13-18. 00:18:47.46\00:18:51.59 You know, most Christians, if you ask them whether Jesus 00:18:51.63\00:18:54.26 forgave people's sins at the cross, they say, 00:18:54.30\00:18:55.90 "Oh yeah, at the cross all sins were forgiven." 00:18:55.93\00:18:58.00 If that's true, then why didn't Jesus just end it all 00:19:00.04\00:19:03.44 when He died on the cross? 00:19:03.47\00:19:04.84 Now notice 1 Corinthians 15:13-18. 00:19:06.04\00:19:09.41 Does the resurrection of Jesus have anything to do with 00:19:47.45\00:19:49.82 our sins being forgiven? 00:19:49.85\00:19:51.52 Absolutely. 00:19:51.92\00:19:53.25 So His death did not take care of sins. 00:19:53.29\00:19:55.26 Because He had to resurrect to take care of sins. 00:19:55.82\00:19:58.13 Are you following me or not? 00:19:58.16\00:19:59.49 Notice Romans 4:25. 00:19:59.69\00:20:01.73 We touched on this point before. 00:20:01.76\00:20:03.53 And let's read Romans 4:25. 00:20:03.63\00:20:06.07 First of all, it speaks about the sacrifice of Christ, 00:20:06.10\00:20:08.67 and then it speaks about His resurrection, 00:20:08.87\00:20:10.77 the purpose of His resurrection. 00:20:10.81\00:20:12.34 It says... 00:20:12.41\00:20:13.74 Or as other versions say, "He was raised 00:20:20.62\00:20:23.25 for our justification." 00:20:23.28\00:20:25.39 So why was Jesus raised? 00:20:25.42\00:20:27.29 Why did Jesus go to heaven? 00:20:27.32\00:20:28.82 So that He could what? 00:20:28.86\00:20:30.19 So that He could justify us. 00:20:30.23\00:20:32.03 Now the question is, what is justification? 00:20:32.23\00:20:35.20 It's a fancy theological word that simply means, 00:20:35.36\00:20:39.63 pardon or forgiveness. 00:20:39.73\00:20:42.27 In the book, Faith and Works, page 103, Ellen White 00:20:42.37\00:20:46.81 explains the following... 00:20:46.84\00:20:48.74 So in other words, when a person repents, confesses, 00:20:58.95\00:21:03.32 trusts in Jesus, and is baptized, they are justified 00:21:03.36\00:21:08.03 or they are forgiven of their sins. 00:21:08.06\00:21:10.30 And God looks upon them as if they had never sinned. 00:21:10.60\00:21:13.54 God accepts them in the beloved. 00:21:13.57\00:21:17.01 So, was everything taken care of at the cross? No. 00:21:17.24\00:21:21.08 Now if I ask you this question, "What is most important: 00:21:21.11\00:21:24.85 the perfect life of Jesus, His death on the cross, 00:21:25.45\00:21:29.62 His resurrection, or His intercession in the 00:21:30.09\00:21:33.76 heavenly Sanctuary?" which would you say 00:21:33.79\00:21:36.42 is the most important? 00:21:36.46\00:21:38.06 It's an impossible question to answer. 00:21:39.76\00:21:42.06 Because if Jesus did not live His perfect life, 00:21:42.46\00:21:45.23 His sacrifice would not have been accepted. 00:21:45.67\00:21:47.77 If Jesus had not lived and died, then He would not what? 00:21:48.74\00:21:54.78 Resurrect. 00:21:55.34\00:21:56.68 And if Jesus did not resurrect, He would not be able to 00:21:56.71\00:21:59.78 carry on the next step in the plan of salvation, 00:21:59.81\00:22:02.85 which is His intercession. 00:22:02.88\00:22:04.62 So those who say, "The cross, the cross, the cross," 00:22:04.65\00:22:07.36 I agree that the cross is vitally important, 00:22:07.39\00:22:09.79 but it is not all and everything. 00:22:09.82\00:22:11.56 All of the steps of Jesus in the plan of salvation 00:22:12.49\00:22:15.66 are critically important in the plan of salvation. 00:22:15.70\00:22:18.53 And we can't focus on just one. 00:22:18.57\00:22:20.67 So the question is, biblically, what did Jesus 00:22:21.07\00:22:23.81 go to heaven to do? 00:22:23.84\00:22:25.24 Let's read several verses, what Jesus has been doing. 00:22:26.07\00:22:29.58 And you know, when I ask Christians, I say, 00:22:29.61\00:22:31.65 "What has Jesus been doing for the last 2000 years?" 00:22:31.68\00:22:35.12 You know, there's a period of silence. 00:22:36.52\00:22:40.16 You know, kind of like they're puzzled. 00:22:40.42\00:22:41.99 What has He been doing for 2000 years? 00:22:42.02\00:22:44.49 If sins were all forgiven at the cross, 00:22:44.53\00:22:46.63 what has He been doing for the last 2000 years? 00:22:46.83\00:22:49.96 You know, even in Adventist churches somebody might 00:22:50.00\00:22:52.03 come up and say, "Interceding." 00:22:52.07\00:22:53.90 Why would He need to intercede if sins were 00:22:53.94\00:22:55.94 forgiven at the cross? 00:22:55.97\00:22:57.31 Are you following what I'm saying? 00:22:59.04\00:23:00.48 Let's see what the Bible has to say about what Jesus is doing 00:23:00.91\00:23:04.21 in the Holy Place. 00:23:04.25\00:23:05.58 1 Timothy 2:5 1 Timothy 2:5 00:23:05.61\00:23:10.35 "For there is one God and two Mediators..." 00:23:10.39\00:23:14.52 Oh, thank you. Okay, you're still with me. 00:23:15.26\00:23:17.13 So it says... 00:23:17.43\00:23:18.76 Now do you remember that the Redeemer 00:23:29.50\00:23:31.67 had to be our next of kin? 00:23:31.71\00:23:33.04 So is it vitally important for Jesus to have been a man? 00:23:33.58\00:23:37.88 Of course. 00:23:38.11\00:23:39.45 For two reasons, and there are other reasons, 00:23:39.48\00:23:40.92 but two principle ones. 00:23:40.95\00:23:42.28 Number one, God cannot be tempted. 00:23:42.32\00:23:43.75 And number two, God can't die. 00:23:43.79\00:23:45.35 And the Messiah had to come and He had to live in human flesh 00:23:45.82\00:23:49.32 a perfect life, a righteous life, and then He 00:23:49.36\00:23:51.76 had die on the cross. 00:23:51.79\00:23:53.13 Neither of those two things can God do. 00:23:53.16\00:23:55.06 So that's why Jesus had to become a man 00:23:55.10\00:23:57.90 to be our Intercessor. 00:23:57.93\00:23:59.27 Now notice also 1 John 2:1. 00:23:59.90\00:24:03.24 It says in 1 John 2:1... 00:24:03.61\00:24:06.31 Notice the first text we read from 1 Timothy 2:5, 00:24:16.69\00:24:19.95 it says that He is one Mediator. 00:24:19.99\00:24:22.79 One go between. 00:24:23.02\00:24:24.69 Here it says we have what? An Advocate. 00:24:24.93\00:24:27.50 That's an individual who defends us in a court of law. 00:24:27.53\00:24:30.13 Now what kind of Advocate is He? 00:24:30.17\00:24:32.27 It says... 00:24:32.50\00:24:33.84 "...Jesus Christ..." What? "...the righteous." 00:24:35.97\00:24:39.01 Why is that important? 00:24:39.04\00:24:40.84 Because we can't come to the presence of God 00:24:41.21\00:24:43.35 because we have no righteousness. 00:24:43.38\00:24:44.78 But when we claim Jesus and His righteousness, 00:24:45.11\00:24:47.92 Jesus comes before the Father and He says, 00:24:48.12\00:24:50.29 "Father, I come here as the righteous one. 00:24:50.32\00:24:53.25 Don't look at Pastor Bohr, look at Me. 00:24:53.29\00:24:55.86 Because He accepted Me." 00:24:55.89\00:24:57.26 And so He must not only be a man, our next of kin, 00:24:57.69\00:25:00.80 He must also be righteous. 00:25:00.83\00:25:03.43 Now does Jesus intercede for everyone? 00:25:03.77\00:25:06.50 That's another answer I usually get, 00:25:07.37\00:25:09.24 "Oh yes, He intercedes for everyone." 00:25:09.27\00:25:11.07 No He doesn't, according to the Bible. 00:25:11.11\00:25:12.97 See, people have developed these traditions 00:25:13.01\00:25:15.71 because they don't read the Bible carefully. 00:25:16.41\00:25:18.91 Notice Hebrews 7:25. 00:25:18.95\00:25:21.92 Hebrews 7:25 00:25:22.18\00:25:24.79 Speaking about Jesus, it says... 00:25:24.82\00:25:26.62 Now, is that clear enough? 00:25:37.57\00:25:38.90 So who is Jesus able to save to the uttermost? 00:25:39.23\00:25:43.07 "...those who come to God through Him..." 00:25:43.24\00:25:45.91 Notice, "...since He always live..." 00:25:45.94\00:25:48.64 Why does He always live? 00:25:48.68\00:25:50.01 Because He resurrected, right? 00:25:50.05\00:25:51.38 "...He always lives to..." What? 00:25:51.41\00:25:53.65 "...to make intercession for them." 00:25:53.85\00:25:56.08 For whom? 00:25:56.12\00:25:57.45 For those who come to God through Him. 00:25:57.49\00:26:00.06 In other words, those who claim the righteousness 00:26:00.56\00:26:03.16 of Jesus Christ. 00:26:03.19\00:26:04.59 No one can come to the Father except through Jesus. 00:26:05.03\00:26:07.66 Notice John 14:6. 00:26:07.76\00:26:10.13 John 14:6 00:26:10.17\00:26:12.00 We have one Mediator. 00:26:22.44\00:26:23.88 He's a man. 00:26:23.91\00:26:25.25 He is a righteous man. 00:26:25.28\00:26:26.92 And He intercedes for those who come to God through Him. 00:26:26.95\00:26:30.05 That's what Jesus has been doing during the last 2000 years 00:26:30.15\00:26:34.39 since He went to heaven; applying the benefits 00:26:34.42\00:26:37.93 of His earthly work to those who claim personally those benefits. 00:26:37.96\00:26:42.76 Incidentally, Jesus is the ladder. 00:26:42.86\00:26:45.30 You remember the ladder that Jacob saw? 00:26:45.33\00:26:47.27 The top of it reached to the highest heaven 00:26:47.74\00:26:49.94 and the base of the ladder was on earth. 00:26:49.97\00:26:51.97 Do you know what the base of the ladder represents? 00:26:52.17\00:26:54.14 The humanity of Christ. 00:26:54.18\00:26:55.68 Do you know what the top of the ladder represents? 00:26:55.94\00:26:58.28 The divinity of Christ. 00:26:58.51\00:27:00.02 He is God, therefore He can represent us to God. 00:27:00.05\00:27:02.42 And He's man, and therefore He can represent God to man. 00:27:02.45\00:27:05.62 In other words, He's a supreme bridge builder. 00:27:05.85\00:27:08.06 Do you know what the word, supreme pontiff, means? 00:27:08.09\00:27:11.06 Pontifex Maximus. 00:27:11.26\00:27:12.63 It means, the supreme bridge builder. 00:27:12.66\00:27:14.63 Of course the papacy says that the supreme 00:27:14.93\00:27:16.97 bridge builder is in Rome. 00:27:17.00\00:27:18.80 But the Bible says that the supreme bridge builder 00:27:19.23\00:27:22.07 is in heaven. 00:27:22.10\00:27:23.44 He only is God. 00:27:23.47\00:27:24.97 And He only is a righteous Man that can bridge 00:27:25.01\00:27:28.44 heaven and earth. 00:27:28.48\00:27:29.91 Every human being is disqualified. 00:27:30.11\00:27:32.01 Because no human being is God, 00:27:32.38\00:27:33.78 and no human being is righteous either. 00:27:33.98\00:27:36.69 And so no human being can fulfill the role of intercessor 00:27:36.95\00:27:41.42 or mediator except Jesus Christ. 00:27:41.46\00:27:44.93 Now let's notice a few more verses that refer to the moment 00:27:45.86\00:27:49.53 when people's sins are forgiven. 00:27:49.73\00:27:52.33 Let's go to Acts 2:38. 00:27:52.93\00:27:56.17 Acts 2:38 00:27:56.20\00:27:59.47 On the day of Pentecost, the apostle Peter 00:28:00.48\00:28:03.65 preached a powerful sermon. 00:28:03.68\00:28:05.21 And if you look at His sermon, he talked about the perfect life 00:28:05.25\00:28:08.75 of Jesus, then he described the death of Jesus, 00:28:08.78\00:28:12.52 then he described the burial of Jesus, 00:28:12.55\00:28:15.42 and then finally he spoke about the resurrection of Christ. 00:28:15.46\00:28:19.39 And then he referred to the ascension of Christ 00:28:19.49\00:28:22.76 to the right hand of God to intercede for sinners. 00:28:22.80\00:28:26.30 Now when Peter finished his sermon, evidently he didn't 00:28:26.74\00:28:30.07 make a call, so he finished his sermon, and so the individuals 00:28:30.11\00:28:34.91 who were present there came to Peter and they said, 00:28:34.94\00:28:37.01 "Well Peter, you know, in the light of what you've preached, 00:28:37.05\00:28:39.61 that Jesus is in heaven, He's now interceding, 00:28:39.81\00:28:42.68 what do we need to do? 00:28:42.72\00:28:44.05 How do we need to respond?" 00:28:44.72\00:28:46.39 Notice Peter's response in Acts 2:38. 00:28:46.69\00:28:50.36 Is that an individual thing? 00:28:58.70\00:29:00.17 Some versions say, "...each one of you..." 00:29:01.07\00:29:03.61 Is there such a thing as corporate repentance? 00:29:04.91\00:29:07.28 Nope. It's individual. 00:29:07.71\00:29:09.71 So it says... 00:29:09.81\00:29:11.15 When do people receive the remission of sins? 00:29:20.92\00:29:23.12 When they repent and they are what? 00:29:23.16\00:29:24.99 And they are baptized. 00:29:25.19\00:29:26.53 And then it speaks of a fringe benefit. 00:29:26.56\00:29:28.50 Do you know what the purpose of the gift of the Holy Spirit is? 00:29:31.30\00:29:33.64 Once a person is baptized and a person's sins are forgiven, 00:29:33.67\00:29:36.91 they're given the Holy Spirit so that they 00:29:36.94\00:29:38.71 can do what the bank owner did. 00:29:38.74\00:29:40.11 So that they can go and tell people, 00:29:40.14\00:29:41.48 "Hey, the Sanctuary is open. 00:29:41.51\00:29:43.51 Come to the bank. Get your debts canceled." 00:29:44.41\00:29:47.42 The Holy Spirit is not given for us to jump in church 00:29:47.75\00:29:50.52 and to speak in tongues, and to roll over in the aisles, 00:29:50.55\00:29:52.89 and to laugh in the spirit." 00:29:52.92\00:29:54.26 The Holy Spirit is given for witnessing. 00:29:54.86\00:29:57.26 It's not given for self-edification 00:29:57.89\00:30:00.30 and to make us feel good, according to Scripture. 00:30:00.33\00:30:02.70 So must we repent to receive forgiveness of sins? 00:30:02.96\00:30:05.93 We're going to talk about baptism in a few moments. 00:30:06.13\00:30:08.64 Go with me to Acts 5:31. 00:30:08.67\00:30:11.07 So the first step is to repent. 00:30:11.11\00:30:12.81 Let's notice what the next step is. 00:30:13.01\00:30:15.11 Acts 5:31 00:30:15.51\00:30:17.35 It repeats the same thought as we just read. 00:30:17.38\00:30:19.98 Speaking about Jesus... 00:30:20.52\00:30:22.05 You know, we don't even repent. 00:30:32.46\00:30:34.03 Repentance is something that God gives us. 00:30:34.46\00:30:36.46 The Bible says in Romans 2:4, the goodness of God 00:30:37.00\00:30:40.64 leads us to repentance. 00:30:40.67\00:30:42.00 So God takes the initiative in repentance. 00:30:42.04\00:30:43.94 And so it says here that Jesus became Prince and Savior... 00:30:44.41\00:30:48.71 So when does Jesus forgive sins? 00:30:54.72\00:30:56.69 When He's at the right hand of God. 00:30:56.99\00:30:58.45 Did you notice that in this verse? 00:30:58.49\00:31:00.49 Now notice, besides repentance, it's not enough just to repent 00:31:00.86\00:31:04.66 inside, we must confess our sins. 00:31:04.69\00:31:07.53 Notice 1 John 1, and we'll read only verse 9. 00:31:07.56\00:31:12.03 1 John 1, well let's read verse 7 and then verse 9. 00:31:12.27\00:31:16.71 Is that a condition? Yes. 00:31:19.87\00:31:22.08 Is this talking about the cleansing of the Sanctuary? 00:31:32.09\00:31:34.09 Is this talking about the cleansing of the Sanctuary? 00:31:35.22\00:31:37.59 The heavenly Sanctuary? No. 00:31:37.63\00:31:38.96 Whose cleansing is it talking about? 00:31:39.76\00:31:41.66 He cleanses us from all sin. 00:31:41.83\00:31:43.77 That's what happens in the daily service. 00:31:43.80\00:31:45.47 Notice verse 9... 00:31:45.50\00:31:46.84 Ah, so it's not only repentance. 00:31:49.84\00:31:51.51 To forgive who? 00:31:59.45\00:32:00.78 "...us our sins..." 00:32:00.88\00:32:02.22 So in the daily service, who is the focus, the Sanctuary or us? 00:32:05.22\00:32:08.82 We are the focus in the daily service. 00:32:09.09\00:32:11.69 We're going to notice that in the yearly service 00:32:12.13\00:32:13.80 it's the Sanctuary that is cleansed. 00:32:14.00\00:32:16.10 It's a different service at the end of the Hebrew year. 00:32:16.26\00:32:19.30 So first of all, repentance. 00:32:19.67\00:32:21.64 Secondly, we find that it's necessary to confess 00:32:21.74\00:32:25.37 sin to receive forgiveness. 00:32:25.41\00:32:26.98 Number three, we must trust Jesus. 00:32:27.08\00:32:29.18 We must trust that when Jesus says that He will place His 00:32:29.21\00:32:31.98 life and His death to our account that He's serious 00:32:32.01\00:32:34.32 and He will really do it. 00:32:34.35\00:32:35.68 Notice Acts 10:43, speaking about Jesus... 00:32:35.92\00:32:39.12 So you'll notice that in Acts 10:43 we're told that 00:32:52.00\00:32:56.27 one of the conditions for benefiting from what Jesus did 00:32:56.30\00:32:59.91 was to believe or to trust in Jesus. 00:33:00.14\00:33:03.35 It's doesn't mean simply to believe in your brain. 00:33:03.65\00:33:06.25 It means to trust in Him as personal Savior. 00:33:06.38\00:33:09.95 Now there's a fourth condition. 00:33:10.12\00:33:11.45 We've noticed three so far. 00:33:11.49\00:33:12.95 Number one, repent. Number two, confess. 00:33:12.99\00:33:15.86 Number three, have faith in Jesus. 00:33:15.89\00:33:18.03 And number four, we mentioned already when we read Acts 2:38, 00:33:18.23\00:33:22.53 it has to do with baptism. 00:33:22.70\00:33:25.93 Baptism is like signing the document. 00:33:25.97\00:33:29.67 In other words, baptism is the icing on the cake. 00:33:29.80\00:33:32.94 It makes everything official. 00:33:32.97\00:33:34.98 Notice Mark 16:16. 00:33:35.21\00:33:38.81 Mark 16:16 00:33:38.85\00:33:41.58 Here, Jesus is speaking after His resurrection... 00:33:41.85\00:33:44.75 So notice, we have to believe or trust in Jesus, 00:33:52.39\00:33:55.40 but we show it how? 00:33:55.60\00:33:57.13 Through baptism. 00:33:57.47\00:33:58.80 And some people say, "Well, it doesn't say at the end of 00:34:05.47\00:34:07.98 the verse, 'But he who does not believe 00:34:08.01\00:34:09.91 and is not baptized will be condemned.'" 00:34:09.94\00:34:11.95 Well it's not necessary because if you don't believe, 00:34:11.98\00:34:14.55 you're not going to choose to be baptized anyway. 00:34:14.58\00:34:16.48 And so, it's only necessary to say, "He who believes 00:34:16.65\00:34:20.46 and is baptized will be saved." 00:34:20.49\00:34:23.93 So the four conditions that we find are repentance, 00:34:23.96\00:34:27.30 confession, faith or trust in Jesus, which is shown 00:34:27.33\00:34:31.63 by the rite of baptism. 00:34:31.67\00:34:34.57 Now let's notice some biblical illustrations 00:34:34.77\00:34:37.91 of these steps. 00:34:37.94\00:34:39.84 First of all, let's talk about the four steps 00:34:40.14\00:34:44.31 with regards to the story of the prodigal son. 00:34:44.55\00:34:48.58 Is there an indication in this story of repentance, confession, 00:34:49.18\00:34:53.62 trust in his father, and baptism? 00:34:53.66\00:34:57.36 The answer is, yes. 00:34:57.69\00:34:59.43 You know the story of the prodigal son. 00:34:59.46\00:35:01.66 You know, he was a son that served his father like a slave. 00:35:02.03\00:35:05.63 And he finally said to his father, "Father, I'm tired 00:35:06.00\00:35:09.60 of being at home. 00:35:09.64\00:35:10.97 And I want to go away and I want to live it up. 00:35:11.01\00:35:13.48 Give me my part of the inheritance." 00:35:13.51\00:35:15.44 And so he goes, makes a mess out of his life, 00:35:15.48\00:35:18.68 and he ends up there living among the swine 00:35:18.95\00:35:22.68 and competing for the food of the swine. 00:35:22.72\00:35:25.69 And when he's there, you know, he suddenly 00:35:26.02\00:35:29.46 comes to his right mind and he says, "What am I doing here? 00:35:30.19\00:35:33.83 He says, "Man, I remember my father's house, 00:35:34.06\00:35:37.70 how well my father treated his servants. 00:35:37.97\00:35:41.04 And how well my father treated me." 00:35:41.47\00:35:44.64 He says, "I'm going to go back to the house." 00:35:44.67\00:35:47.31 Let me ask you, what is it that led him to repent? 00:35:47.61\00:35:49.98 The goodness of his father, right? 00:35:50.08\00:35:51.68 He remembered the goodness of his father. 00:35:51.71\00:35:53.55 And so he repents and he says, "I'm going to go back home 00:35:53.75\00:35:56.69 and I'm going to say, 'I have sinned against heaven 00:35:56.82\00:35:59.52 and against you, and I'm not worthy to be called your son.'" 00:35:59.55\00:36:02.19 So did he confess his sin when he went back? 00:36:02.22\00:36:04.49 Absolutely. 00:36:04.53\00:36:05.86 He said, "I have sinned against heaven and against you." 00:36:05.89\00:36:08.30 So he repented. 00:36:08.33\00:36:09.66 Secondly, he confessed his sin. 00:36:09.70\00:36:11.73 Let me ask you, third, did he believe and trust 00:36:11.93\00:36:15.07 that his father would receive him back? 00:36:15.10\00:36:17.07 Of course. 00:36:17.11\00:36:18.44 He would not have gone back unless he believed 00:36:18.47\00:36:20.18 that his father would receive him back. 00:36:20.21\00:36:22.24 Of course, he grew in his understanding, because 00:36:22.28\00:36:24.51 he thought his father was going to receive him as a slave, 00:36:24.55\00:36:27.22 or as a servant, but his father received him as a what? 00:36:27.52\00:36:30.65 As a son, and he was re-integrated into the family. 00:36:30.69\00:36:33.86 Now it's also interesting to notice what the father did 00:36:34.26\00:36:37.39 with the son when he returned. 00:36:37.43\00:36:38.86 The Bible tells us that the father took his best robe 00:36:39.16\00:36:41.93 and he put the best robe on his son. 00:36:42.36\00:36:44.13 Now let me ask you, do you think it would make sense 00:36:44.30\00:36:46.60 for the father to put the robe on before this guy took a bath? 00:36:46.63\00:36:49.87 I rather doubt it. 00:36:50.21\00:36:51.54 I think that probably what they did was wash him up, 00:36:51.64\00:36:55.44 and then place the garment of the father's 00:36:55.64\00:36:57.88 righteousness on him. 00:36:57.91\00:36:59.25 And there's a biblical foundation for that. 00:36:59.28\00:37:00.78 You remember the story of Zechariah 3 where Joshua 00:37:00.92\00:37:05.32 is there standing and he's covered with filthy garments. 00:37:05.35\00:37:09.49 And the angel is told, "Take away those filthy garments." 00:37:09.79\00:37:13.33 So first of all, you take away what? 00:37:13.63\00:37:15.86 The filthiness. 00:37:15.90\00:37:17.23 And then cover him with a beautiful robe. 00:37:17.27\00:37:20.47 And so this son went through all of the process 00:37:20.57\00:37:24.47 that we've described. 00:37:24.77\00:37:26.17 He repented, he confessed his sin, 00:37:26.27\00:37:28.74 he trusted in the goodness of his father. 00:37:28.94\00:37:31.21 And mostly likely, although the story doesn't say so, 00:37:31.31\00:37:34.85 he was washed up, and then his father covered him 00:37:34.88\00:37:37.45 with his robe of righteousness. 00:37:37.49\00:37:39.65 Which is what the Bible calls justification, 00:37:39.69\00:37:42.69 or as we have seen, forgiveness. 00:37:42.72\00:37:45.49 Are you seeing all the steps? 00:37:45.53\00:37:46.96 And of course, Ellen White, as we've noticed, says in, 00:37:47.13\00:37:50.43 Faith and Works, page 103... 00:37:50.47\00:37:52.50 Do you think this son would now find it a delight 00:37:57.41\00:38:00.11 to obey his father? 00:38:00.14\00:38:01.48 Oh, he knew the love of his father. 00:38:01.64\00:38:04.15 He said, "Man, my father received me back 00:38:04.18\00:38:06.01 in spite of the fact that I did all this. 00:38:06.05\00:38:08.78 I blew it. He received me back as a son." 00:38:08.82\00:38:11.45 Would that be a big incentive for him to be 00:38:11.55\00:38:13.52 obedient to his father? 00:38:13.56\00:38:14.89 Yes. No longer because he felt obligated to, but because 00:38:14.92\00:38:19.83 he could now grasp the love and mercy of his father. 00:38:19.86\00:38:23.47 See, obedience comes as a result of understanding the goodness 00:38:23.63\00:38:28.00 and the mercy and the grace of God. 00:38:28.04\00:38:30.64 Now let's talk about Adam and Eve. 00:38:31.57\00:38:33.61 This is an interesting story. 00:38:34.11\00:38:35.61 When Adam and Eve sinned, were they repentant 00:38:36.18\00:38:39.61 immediately after their sin? 00:38:39.65\00:38:41.12 No. 00:38:41.42\00:38:42.75 You say, "How do we know they weren't?" 00:38:42.78\00:38:44.12 You know, the greatest sign that an individual is not 00:38:44.15\00:38:47.06 sorry for sin is blaming other people. 00:38:47.09\00:38:49.96 That's the greatest sign of a false repentance, 00:38:50.43\00:38:53.19 is you blame someone else. 00:38:53.33\00:38:54.76 So when God comes to Adam and says, 00:38:54.90\00:38:56.46 "Adam, what have you done," 00:38:56.50\00:38:57.83 Adam says, "Yeah, I ate from the tree. 00:38:57.87\00:39:00.24 I'm not going to deny it. 00:39:00.27\00:39:01.60 But the woman that You gave me, it was her fault." 00:39:01.64\00:39:04.37 And then God comes to Eve and He says, "Eve, what have you done?" 00:39:04.94\00:39:08.51 She says, "I'm not going to deny that I ate from the tree. 00:39:08.54\00:39:10.91 I did eat from the tree. I admit it. 00:39:10.95\00:39:13.05 But it was the serpent that You made. 00:39:13.08\00:39:14.92 If You had not made that serpent, 00:39:14.95\00:39:16.28 the serpent would not have tempted me 00:39:16.48\00:39:17.95 and I would not have sinned." 00:39:17.99\00:39:19.45 So, they were sorry about the consequences that 00:39:19.69\00:39:24.09 their sin was going to give them. 00:39:24.13\00:39:25.73 That is, death. 00:39:25.76\00:39:27.10 But they were not sorry that they had committed this sin. 00:39:27.13\00:39:29.86 Do you know when they really felt sorry for sin? 00:39:29.90\00:39:34.00 Ellen White describes it in, Patriarchs and Prophets. 00:39:34.74\00:39:37.41 It's when Adam had to offer the first sacrifice 00:39:37.61\00:39:40.28 in a world where there was no death. 00:39:40.64\00:39:42.64 God told him, "Get a lamb. 00:39:43.11\00:39:44.85 Slit its throat." 00:39:44.88\00:39:46.28 Can you imagine what it was like? 00:39:46.31\00:39:47.68 You know, there's so much death in the world today that 00:39:47.72\00:39:50.29 it doesn't even tickle us. 00:39:50.32\00:39:53.05 But in a world where there was no death, 00:39:53.29\00:39:55.79 suddenly that animal in his arms is limp. 00:39:55.89\00:39:58.69 Dead. Doesn't breathe anymore. 00:39:58.93\00:40:01.13 And then Ellen White explains how Jesus Himself 00:40:01.56\00:40:04.70 said to Adam and Eve, "Listen, that little lamb represents Me. 00:40:04.73\00:40:09.24 Because of your sin, that's what's going to happen to Me." 00:40:09.44\00:40:12.57 Do you think that they were really sorry for sin now? 00:40:12.61\00:40:14.74 You better believe it. 00:40:14.94\00:40:16.28 And then, of course, we have the story of David. 00:40:16.48\00:40:20.02 What a wonderful story. 00:40:20.62\00:40:21.95 You know, David committed adultery 00:40:21.98\00:40:23.52 with Uriah the Hittite's wife, Bathsheba. 00:40:23.99\00:40:26.92 And then he had Uriah killed on the battlefront. 00:40:26.96\00:40:32.03 I mean, two terrible horrendous sins; adultery and murder. 00:40:32.06\00:40:36.13 Did David repent of His sin? 00:40:36.46\00:40:38.83 All you have to do, folks, is read Psalm 51. 00:40:38.87\00:40:43.47 It's all there. 00:40:43.77\00:40:45.11 Did he repent of sin? 00:40:45.14\00:40:47.08 Just read the psalm. He did. 00:40:47.11\00:40:49.14 Did he confess audibly his sin to the Lord? 00:40:49.31\00:40:52.48 Yes. Did he trust in the mercy of the Lord? 00:40:52.65\00:40:55.62 Did he say, "I know You can forgive me. 00:40:55.72\00:40:57.65 I trust in You." 00:40:57.69\00:40:59.02 Absolutely. 00:40:59.05\00:41:00.39 Did he ask God to wash him in Psalm 51? 00:41:00.42\00:41:04.06 See, there you have represented what? 00:41:04.09\00:41:05.99 Baptism. 00:41:06.03\00:41:07.36 He's not only saying, "Forgive me," 00:41:07.40\00:41:08.76 he's saying, "Wash me. 00:41:08.86\00:41:10.43 Clean me up." 00:41:10.53\00:41:12.00 And so we have all of the steps mentioned specifically 00:41:12.23\00:41:16.07 there as well. 00:41:16.10\00:41:17.67 You know, what is the difference between true repentance 00:41:18.57\00:41:21.31 and false repentance? 00:41:21.41\00:41:23.18 It's very simple. 00:41:23.35\00:41:24.68 False repentance means that you're sorry for the 00:41:24.85\00:41:27.58 consequences that your sin is going to give you 00:41:27.62\00:41:30.32 instead of for the sin itself. 00:41:30.35\00:41:32.19 Now when I was a kid, I have three sisters, 00:41:32.39\00:41:36.73 and once in a while I would get in fights with my sisters. 00:41:36.76\00:41:39.33 It's a normal thing in a world of sin. 00:41:39.36\00:41:41.63 Although now looking back, I'd say I should have overcome that. 00:41:41.83\00:41:44.50 But anyway, when I fought with me sisters, 00:41:44.53\00:41:46.94 my dad would say, "Son, they are women, 00:41:46.97\00:41:50.94 and they are to be treated with respect." 00:41:51.14\00:41:54.01 And he said, "I'm going to give you a licking." 00:41:54.11\00:41:57.11 Or a whipping. 00:41:57.88\00:41:59.21 And you know what I'd say to my dad? 00:41:59.41\00:42:01.65 I'd say, "Oh no, dad, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. 00:42:01.68\00:42:04.02 I'm really sorry." 00:42:04.05\00:42:05.39 Do you really think I was sorry that I fought with me sisters? 00:42:05.42\00:42:07.99 Not on your life. 00:42:08.19\00:42:09.76 I was sorry that I was going to get whipped. 00:42:09.79\00:42:11.76 That's false repentance. 00:42:12.09\00:42:13.76 See, sorry for the consequences of sin 00:42:13.80\00:42:16.60 rather than for the sin itself. 00:42:16.77\00:42:18.43 And Ellen White says very clearly that we should not 00:42:18.67\00:42:24.24 serve Jesus because we want to go to heaven 00:42:24.54\00:42:27.48 or we want to keep out of hell. 00:42:27.58\00:42:29.28 We should serve Jesus and we should be repentant because 00:42:30.01\00:42:34.02 of the sin itself. 00:42:34.35\00:42:35.88 Because it hurts Jesus. 00:42:35.92\00:42:37.55 It hurt the Lord. 00:42:37.59\00:42:38.92 And when we see what sin did to Jesus, 00:42:39.15\00:42:41.26 we will not want anything more to do with sin. 00:42:41.36\00:42:44.83 Now let me read you here a statement, a couple of 00:42:45.33\00:42:48.36 statements actually, from the spirit of prophecy 00:42:48.40\00:42:50.80 on what Jesus went to do in heaven. 00:42:51.17\00:42:54.00 She's so clear. 00:42:54.10\00:42:55.44 The first is in the book, Faith and Works, page 103. 00:42:55.64\00:42:59.97 This is one of the most beautiful statements 00:43:00.01\00:43:01.84 I've ever found on the issue of the conditions for forgiveness 00:43:01.88\00:43:07.42 and what forgiveness provides for God's people. 00:43:07.45\00:43:10.19 "Through faith..." 00:43:16.93\00:43:18.46 See, it's a condition, right? 00:43:19.29\00:43:20.80 "Through faith, the believer..." 00:43:20.90\00:43:23.83 That's faith, right? 00:43:24.73\00:43:26.07 So when is it that Jesus bears the sins as the 00:43:56.46\00:43:59.43 Substitute and Surety? 00:43:59.47\00:44:01.04 When the individual, through faith, comes to Jesus. 00:44:01.40\00:44:04.91 And then she continues saying... 00:44:05.14\00:44:07.08 This is what Jesus says in His intercession. 00:44:09.04\00:44:11.35 Isn't that a magnificent statement about what happens 00:44:45.21\00:44:47.72 when a sinner comes to God through Jesus Christ? 00:44:47.82\00:44:52.15 He now gets the benefits of Christ's life and death. 00:44:52.39\00:44:56.83 When Ellen White speaks about the benefits 00:44:56.93\00:44:59.36 of Christ's atonement, she's talking about 00:44:59.39\00:45:01.60 Christ's perfect life and death which He will put to the account 00:45:01.63\00:45:05.33 of those who repent, confess their sins, 00:45:05.37\00:45:08.10 trust in Jesus, and are baptized. 00:45:08.14\00:45:11.21 Here's the second statement. 00:45:11.54\00:45:12.87 It's found in, Early Writings, page 259-260. 00:45:12.91\00:45:18.05 You remember that happened when Jesus died. 00:45:21.85\00:45:23.72 It was offered at Calvary and it was accepted by His Father 00:45:40.57\00:45:43.54 when He ascended to heaven. 00:45:43.57\00:45:44.91 Remember He appeared before His Father 00:45:44.94\00:45:46.27 and showed His wounds. 00:45:46.31\00:45:47.71 Revelation 5 describes it as the Lamb as though 00:45:47.74\00:45:50.81 it had been slain. 00:45:50.85\00:45:52.18 He presents Himself before His Father. 00:45:52.21\00:45:53.65 "The great Sacrifice had been offered..." 00:45:54.12\00:45:56.95 Did He go to heaven to shed it upon everyone on planet earth? 00:46:15.84\00:46:19.07 No. 00:46:19.11\00:46:20.44 "...to shed upon His disciples the benefits of His atonement." 00:46:20.48\00:46:25.35 And you'll notice that the benefits of Christ's atonement 00:46:25.81\00:46:28.68 are His perfect life on earth and His death for sin. 00:46:28.72\00:46:32.65 Which He did for every single person who has ever lived 00:46:33.09\00:46:36.39 in the history of planet earth on God's initiative, 00:46:36.42\00:46:39.69 not man's choice or man's initiative. 00:46:39.73\00:46:43.06 The statement continues with the following words... 00:46:43.37\00:46:45.97 "...and still trusted in their useless 00:46:54.28\00:46:56.71 sacrifices and offerings." 00:46:56.75\00:46:58.71 Of course, because they didn't realize that Jesus 00:46:59.01\00:47:00.92 the true Lamb had died. 00:47:00.95\00:47:02.28 She continues saying... 00:47:02.32\00:47:03.65 Because they did not follow Him in the previous steps, 00:47:16.53\00:47:19.13 they had no idea what Jesus was doing in heaven. 00:47:19.27\00:47:23.07 Now I'd like to mention something about baptism 00:47:23.71\00:47:27.11 before we draw this to a close. 00:47:27.14\00:47:29.78 Most Christians have a very superficial view 00:47:30.45\00:47:35.12 of what baptism really means. 00:47:35.15\00:47:37.02 In fact, I have found that many Adventists also are fuzzy 00:47:37.35\00:47:41.89 on the profound meaning of baptism. 00:47:41.92\00:47:44.36 So I'm going to explain what baptism is, because 00:47:44.39\00:47:46.76 it's one of the conditions for receiving forgiveness, 00:47:46.80\00:47:50.23 according to what we've studied. 00:47:50.27\00:47:51.60 Repentance, confession of sin, faith and trust in Jesus, 00:47:51.63\00:47:55.24 and it is all announced or crystallized by 00:47:55.27\00:47:58.77 the rite of baptism. 00:47:59.21\00:48:00.91 Now, we believe that baptism should be of individuals 00:48:01.11\00:48:05.71 who understand what they are doing. 00:48:05.75\00:48:07.92 And we usually say adults, but you know, there are children 00:48:08.58\00:48:11.29 who reach a certain age where they can 00:48:11.32\00:48:12.92 understand what they're doing. 00:48:12.95\00:48:14.29 They can repent, they can confess their sins, 00:48:14.32\00:48:16.62 they can have trust in Jesus, 00:48:16.73\00:48:18.86 and they can choose to be baptized. 00:48:18.89\00:48:20.40 So we believe that baptism should be 00:48:20.43\00:48:23.03 of knowing individuals. 00:48:23.06\00:48:24.80 And secondly, that it should be by immersion. 00:48:25.10\00:48:28.10 The person should be submerged totally and 00:48:28.14\00:48:31.14 completely in the water. 00:48:31.17\00:48:32.51 And you say, "Now why would that be important?" 00:48:32.54\00:48:34.94 The reason why it's important is because when a person is 00:48:35.94\00:48:39.28 baptized, they are repeating in miniature the experience 00:48:39.31\00:48:43.59 of Christ and they are being included in the 00:48:43.62\00:48:46.02 experience of Christ. 00:48:46.05\00:48:47.39 Let me explain what I mean. 00:48:47.62\00:48:49.02 Probably all of you have seen a baptism. 00:48:49.32\00:48:51.46 The pastor is in the baptismal font. 00:48:51.93\00:48:54.16 And the pastor says, "I now baptize you in the name of the 00:48:54.53\00:48:58.00 Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." 00:48:58.03\00:49:00.87 And then the candidate that is in front, what is the last thing 00:49:00.90\00:49:04.24 that the candidate does before the pastor puts him 00:49:04.27\00:49:06.88 or her under the water? 00:49:06.91\00:49:08.24 Stops breathing, right? 00:49:08.74\00:49:10.45 They better stop breathing. 00:49:11.35\00:49:13.85 What do they do while they're under the water? 00:49:14.35\00:49:16.38 They don't breathe. 00:49:17.22\00:49:18.55 What is the first thing that they do when they 00:49:18.82\00:49:20.92 come out of the water? 00:49:20.96\00:49:22.29 They breathe again. 00:49:22.52\00:49:23.89 Right? 00:49:23.93\00:49:25.26 Do you know what's happening there? 00:49:25.29\00:49:26.63 They are repeating in miniature the experience of Christ. 00:49:26.80\00:49:29.96 They are being included in Christ. 00:49:30.00\00:49:32.27 They are now in Christ because they went, in miniature, 00:49:32.53\00:49:35.77 through the experience of Christ. 00:49:35.80\00:49:37.64 They are not now in themselves, they are in Christ. 00:49:38.07\00:49:41.08 So can sprinkling represent that, being included in the 00:49:41.28\00:49:46.92 death, burial, and resurrection of Christ? 00:49:46.95\00:49:49.38 Absolutely not. 00:49:49.42\00:49:50.75 Now the reason I took the time to speak about the meaning 00:49:51.22\00:49:54.66 of this fourth step, the step of baptism, 00:49:54.69\00:49:57.26 is because Satan has established a counterfeit. 00:49:57.59\00:50:01.93 A counterfeit way of salvation. 00:50:02.43\00:50:05.07 Instead of having people look to heaven, 00:50:05.33\00:50:07.77 the devil has fixed it so that people look to the earth 00:50:07.87\00:50:12.47 for salvation. 00:50:12.77\00:50:14.11 Now you say, "What do you mean?" 00:50:14.58\00:50:16.71 I'm going to speak now boldly about the Roman Catholic system. 00:50:17.41\00:50:21.52 And this is no reflection on individual Roman Catholics. 00:50:22.15\00:50:25.39 Because we're not talking about individuals 00:50:25.42\00:50:27.86 of the Roman Catholic Church. 00:50:27.89\00:50:29.22 We're talking about Roman Catholic theology, 00:50:29.26\00:50:31.46 and how it does not fit with everything that we've described. 00:50:31.66\00:50:34.96 The book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus was sacrificed 00:50:35.43\00:50:39.57 once for all. 00:50:39.60\00:50:41.47 He was sacrificed once for all. 00:50:42.27\00:50:43.81 He needs not be sacrificed ever again. 00:50:43.84\00:50:46.54 But the Roman Catholic Church teaches that in each mass 00:50:47.24\00:50:50.11 Jesus is sacrificed all over again. 00:50:50.48\00:50:53.15 And people look, not at Jesus the true Sacrifice in heaven, 00:50:53.75\00:50:57.15 they look at that little wafer, that little host, in the hands 00:50:57.19\00:51:00.46 of the priest. 00:51:00.49\00:51:01.82 A counterfeit sacrifice. 00:51:01.86\00:51:03.53 Not only that, the Bible tells us that there's only 00:51:03.83\00:51:06.29 one Advocate, one Intercessor, who is perfectly righteous; 00:51:06.33\00:51:10.37 Jesus Christ. 00:51:10.40\00:51:11.73 We noticed that the Intercessor has to be a man, 00:51:11.77\00:51:14.04 He has to be a righteous man, and He has to be God. 00:51:14.24\00:51:17.41 The Roman Catholic Church says that there are human 00:51:17.87\00:51:21.48 intercessors, there are priests who represent individuals. 00:51:21.51\00:51:26.15 The problem with priests, yes they're human, 00:51:26.18\00:51:28.15 but they're not righteous humans. 00:51:28.18\00:51:29.85 And furthermore, they are not God. 00:51:30.42\00:51:32.49 So they cannot bridge the distance 00:51:32.69\00:51:34.49 between heaven and earth. 00:51:34.52\00:51:35.86 And so people go to the priest, they confess to the priest. 00:51:35.89\00:51:38.36 They say my sins are taken care of. 00:51:38.46\00:51:40.23 They're totally oblivious to the fact that there's only one 00:51:40.43\00:51:43.90 who can represent them before God; 00:51:43.93\00:51:45.67 Jesus Christ the righteous one. 00:51:45.70\00:51:47.57 And then the Roman Catholic Church teaches also 00:51:48.40\00:51:50.71 that baptism should be of infants that cannot repent, 00:51:50.74\00:51:54.08 they cannot confess, they cannot trust in Jesus. 00:51:54.11\00:51:57.28 And they say it's okay to just do a little 00:51:57.41\00:51:59.75 sprinkle on their heads. 00:51:59.78\00:52:01.22 The Bible says that we must be buried in baptism. 00:52:01.32\00:52:04.42 Because when we are buried in the waters, 00:52:04.45\00:52:06.49 we are participating in the experience of Jesus Christ. 00:52:06.69\00:52:10.49 So Roman Catholicism has established a counterfeit 00:52:10.79\00:52:14.50 system of salvation on earth. 00:52:14.53\00:52:16.46 And the sad thing is that Protestants today 00:52:16.77\00:52:19.43 are oblivious to the difference between Roman Catholicism 00:52:20.04\00:52:23.37 and Protestantism. 00:52:23.41\00:52:24.74 And you have people like Rick Warren saying, 00:52:24.77\00:52:26.57 "Oh, you know, we all believe in Jesus. 00:52:26.61\00:52:29.14 We all believe that Jesus died. 00:52:29.18\00:52:30.75 We all believe that Jesus resurrected. 00:52:30.78\00:52:32.68 We all believe that Jesus went to heaven." 00:52:32.88\00:52:34.78 Yes, but the concept of salvation of Roman Catholicism 00:52:34.82\00:52:39.65 and the concept of the Bible are radically and totally different. 00:52:39.69\00:52:43.53 Because people look to a human system for salvation 00:52:43.66\00:52:46.70 on earth in Roman Catholicism when the Bible tells us 00:52:46.73\00:52:50.20 that there is no hope except in Jesus Christ 00:52:50.23\00:52:53.10 and His intercession in the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:52:53.13\00:52:55.74 Are you following me or not? 00:52:55.77\00:52:57.17 This is a vitally important thing. 00:52:57.21\00:52:58.84 Now let's introduce our next study. 00:52:59.41\00:53:01.58 In Leviticus chapter 1 through chapter 15, 00:53:03.24\00:53:06.15 the words that describe sin are almost always in the singular. 00:53:07.25\00:53:12.95 Words like: sin, transgression, uncleanness in singular. 00:53:13.69\00:53:19.33 Because Leviticus 1 through 15 is describing the daily service. 00:53:19.69\00:53:24.27 In other words, individuals placed sin, transgression, 00:53:24.47\00:53:28.87 uncleanness in the Sanctuary. 00:53:28.90\00:53:31.47 But in Leviticus 16 it's different. 00:53:31.91\00:53:35.11 Because in Leviticus 16, the words are plural. 00:53:35.38\00:53:39.21 Sins, transgressions, uncleanness in plural. 00:53:39.25\00:53:45.75 Because we're going to find in our next study 00:53:45.79\00:53:48.56 that the purpose of the next step of Jesus in the Sanctuary, 00:53:48.59\00:53:52.39 the day of atonement, is not to introduce the sins 00:53:52.43\00:53:56.03 of individual sinners in the Sanctuary, but the purpose is 00:53:56.06\00:54:01.10 to take the whole cumulus of sins that have entered 00:54:01.14\00:54:04.64 the Sanctuary and take that cumulus of sins 00:54:04.67\00:54:07.71 out into the court to place on the head of the scapegoat. 00:54:07.74\00:54:12.75 So what happened in the daily service was simply 00:54:13.08\00:54:16.28 that when individuals confessed their sins 00:54:16.38\00:54:19.72 the priest would place his hand on the head of the victim, 00:54:19.75\00:54:23.29 would transfer the sin of the sinner to the victim, 00:54:23.49\00:54:26.09 the victim would be slain. 00:54:26.19\00:54:27.80 The blood was then taken into the Sanctuary 00:54:27.83\00:54:30.47 with the record of the blood, and the sinner was forgiven. 00:54:30.50\00:54:33.87 But the Sanctuary was what? 00:54:33.90\00:54:36.30 The Sanctuary was defiled. 00:54:36.34\00:54:37.87 Because the blood bore the record of what? 00:54:37.91\00:54:41.18 Of sin. 00:54:41.21\00:54:42.54 Is that what Jesus is actually doing in heaven now? 00:54:42.58\00:54:45.35 Yes. 00:54:45.71\00:54:47.05 You see, Jesus died on the cross. 00:54:47.08\00:54:48.95 And when I repent, and confess my sins, 00:54:49.18\00:54:51.55 and trust in Jesus, and I'm baptized, 00:54:51.59\00:54:53.56 Jesus takes those sins into the heavenly Sanctuary 00:54:53.72\00:54:57.49 and He places them in the Sanctuary. 00:54:57.69\00:55:00.10 Can I have assurance of forgiveness? 00:55:00.13\00:55:01.90 Absolutely. 00:55:01.93\00:55:03.26 I don't have the problem anymore. 00:55:03.30\00:55:05.43 Where is the problem? 00:55:05.47\00:55:06.80 The problem is in the Sanctuary. 00:55:06.84\00:55:08.44 So the Sanctuary, if it's defiled by sin, it must be what? 00:55:08.47\00:55:12.84 It must be cleansed. 00:55:13.04\00:55:14.84 And that's the service of the day of atonement 00:55:14.88\00:55:17.91 that we're going to talk about in our next two lectures. 00:55:17.95\00:55:20.98 Are you following what I'm saying? 00:55:21.08\00:55:22.45 Let me read you from, Great Controversy, 421-422, 00:55:22.85\00:55:27.02 as we close. 00:55:27.06\00:55:28.39 Isn't this simple? 00:55:56.55\00:55:57.89 I mean, it's just absolutely simple. 00:55:57.99\00:56:00.09 Placed on the victim, the victim's blood is shed, 00:56:00.29\00:56:03.79 the blood is taken into the Sanctuary, 00:56:04.09\00:56:06.09 and through the blood the Sanctuary has the record of sin. 00:56:06.36\00:56:09.60 The Sanctuary is defiled. 00:56:09.63\00:56:11.43 And therefore, the Sanctuary needs to be what? 00:56:11.47\00:56:13.67 The Sanctuary needs to be cleansed. 00:56:13.77\00:56:16.00 Now I'll tell you what some people say. 00:56:16.57\00:56:17.97 They say, "Adventists never have the assurance of salvation. 00:56:18.01\00:56:21.44 Because Adventists say that their sins are written 00:56:21.91\00:56:25.01 up there in heaven. 00:56:25.05\00:56:26.72 And so they can never be sure if they're saved or not." 00:56:27.48\00:56:30.49 But let me tell you, our greatest assurance of salvation 00:56:30.59\00:56:34.32 is to have our sins up there, to make sure that our sins 00:56:34.52\00:56:39.19 enter the Sanctuary through the blood of Jesus 00:56:39.56\00:56:42.33 and that they're up there. 00:56:42.53\00:56:43.87 Because if the sins are not up there, they are here. 00:56:44.07\00:56:47.94 So you better make sure that you repent of sin, 00:56:48.50\00:56:51.97 and you confess your sins, and you trust in Jesus, 00:56:52.01\00:56:55.01 and you're baptized if you haven't been, 00:56:55.14\00:56:57.38 and that Jesus now mediates, is your Advocate, 00:56:57.58\00:57:01.18 is your Intercessor in heaven, and takes your sins 00:57:01.22\00:57:04.09 and He places the sins, covered by the blood, 00:57:04.12\00:57:07.09 in the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:57:07.29\00:57:08.66 You see, as long as your sins enter the Sanctuary 00:57:08.69\00:57:11.63 covered by the blood, you don't have anything to worry about. 00:57:11.66\00:57:14.60 Your greatest assurance is to have them there. 00:57:15.00\00:57:17.67 Because if they are not there, they are where? 00:57:17.83\00:57:20.34 They are here. 00:57:20.37\00:57:21.70 And so our next study, we will go into the Most Holy Place 00:57:22.30\00:57:27.14 of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:57:27.18\00:57:28.51 And let me just set the stage. 00:57:28.71\00:57:30.35 Has every person who has claimed Jesus 00:57:31.65\00:57:35.62 truly repented of sin? 00:57:35.65\00:57:37.19 Are their true and counterfeit believers in the church? 00:57:38.42\00:57:41.16 Yes. 00:57:42.22\00:57:43.56 So how do you know who are genuine and who are counterfeit? 00:57:43.59\00:57:46.93 God will reveal it in the what? 00:57:48.93\00:57:51.13 In the judgment. 00:57:51.70\00:57:53.07 And so the daily service and the yearly service 00:57:53.67\00:57:57.14 are intimately connected, as we will see. 00:57:57.24\00:57:59.87
