Amen. 00:03:35.21\00:03:37.18 Pastor, would you pray for us, please? 00:03:37.21\00:03:39.18 Sure. 00:03:39.21\00:03:40.55 Loving gracious Father in Heaven, 00:03:40.58\00:03:42.62 this is Your Word. 00:03:42.65\00:03:44.35 We are simply Your servants. 00:03:44.39\00:03:46.65 And we pray as You inspire the prophets of old 00:03:46.69\00:03:49.69 by the unction of Your Holy Spirit 00:03:49.72\00:03:51.93 that You do the same today for us. 00:03:51.96\00:03:54.73 We don't want to just give answers 00:03:54.76\00:03:56.13 but we want to direct people to You and to Your Word, 00:03:56.16\00:04:00.10 which in fact is the only foundation 00:04:00.14\00:04:03.64 upon which they have security, a thus saith the Lord. 00:04:03.67\00:04:07.48 So speak to our hearts, speak through our mouths, 00:04:07.51\00:04:10.45 but may all the glory go to You in Jesus' name. 00:04:10.48\00:04:13.68 Amen. Amen. 00:04:13.72\00:04:15.05 Amen. 00:04:15.08\00:04:16.42 You know, it can be a challenge 00:04:16.45\00:04:17.79 to fit the answers in two minutes, 00:04:17.82\00:04:20.09 the two minutes you have allotted 00:04:20.12\00:04:21.46 and then the three minute question you have even then, 00:04:21.49\00:04:24.13 that's a tight window but, 00:04:24.16\00:04:26.46 Shelley, we're going to come to you. 00:04:26.49\00:04:27.83 This is a three minute question for you. 00:04:27.86\00:04:29.96 And part of this we will answer in an extra question. 00:04:30.00\00:04:34.57 "A pastor is preaching that getting cancer 00:04:34.60\00:04:37.51 and dying and being poor is not God's will for any of us 00:04:37.54\00:04:42.84 and that Christians shouldn't get sick or die early 00:04:42.88\00:04:45.31 because it's our will and we can control it. 00:04:45.35\00:04:48.15 Can you help me find in the Bible 00:04:48.18\00:04:50.92 that we have the authority to override God's plan?" 00:04:50.95\00:04:53.76 This is from Ken out of Durham, North Carolina. 00:04:53.79\00:04:55.92 Okay, and that's a two part question, 00:04:55.96\00:04:57.69 so I'm going to answer the part on getting cancer 00:04:57.73\00:05:00.60 and dying, and then we'll answer the poor 00:05:00.63\00:05:03.06 when we get to our extra questions. 00:05:03.10\00:05:05.60 The issue of getting cancer, the issue of dying, 00:05:05.63\00:05:09.34 this is difficult to deal with. 00:05:09.37\00:05:10.91 But let me just say this, all illness is a curse. 00:05:10.94\00:05:16.44 It's the result of the curse of sin, 00:05:16.48\00:05:18.75 Genesis 3:17, on the earth. 00:05:18.78\00:05:22.18 Now, is it ever our will? 00:05:22.22\00:05:25.32 I guess you could say that if you smoke 00:05:25.35\00:05:28.86 and you get lung cancer, or COPD, 00:05:28.89\00:05:32.19 or suppose that you drink to the point 00:05:32.23\00:05:35.33 of getting cirrhosis or liver cancer 00:05:35.36\00:05:39.93 then I could say, "Yeah, that was your will." 00:05:39.97\00:05:42.34 It wasn't God's will that you go through that. 00:05:42.37\00:05:45.31 But not all cancer is brought about by our will. 00:05:45.34\00:05:50.25 We live in a fallen world 00:05:50.28\00:05:53.72 and the natural course of this decaying fallen world 00:05:53.75\00:05:58.22 is we've got corruptible bodies 00:05:58.25\00:06:01.26 and our bodies are subject to illness and death. 00:06:01.29\00:06:06.36 And you know, we don't put on incorruption 00:06:06.39\00:06:11.00 until the last trumpet. 00:06:11.03\00:06:12.60 So here's a Bible verse for you. 00:06:12.63\00:06:16.10 Corinthians 15:53 says, "This corruptible," 00:06:16.14\00:06:20.58 this body that can decay, 00:06:20.61\00:06:22.94 this body that can get cancer and die, 00:06:22.98\00:06:26.58 "must put on incorruption, 00:06:26.61\00:06:28.92 the mortal must put on immortality." 00:06:28.95\00:06:32.65 And if you look at that passage in 1 Corinthians 15, 00:06:32.69\00:06:36.69 this happens when Christ returns with a shout. 00:06:36.73\00:06:40.30 Now, let me if you're jotting down scripture references, 00:06:40.33\00:06:43.60 you want to jot down Matthew 17:14-18, 00:06:43.63\00:06:49.47 and Luke 13:10-16. 00:06:49.50\00:06:52.87 Let me repeat, Matthew 17:14-18, 00:06:52.91\00:06:57.25 and Luke 13:10-16. 00:06:57.28\00:07:00.22 What those verses tell us is that Satan 00:07:00.25\00:07:03.79 and his demonic force 00:07:03.82\00:07:07.82 can cause physical suffering. 00:07:07.86\00:07:12.23 But God sometimes allows physical suffering, 00:07:12.26\00:07:16.63 like in the... 00:07:16.67\00:07:18.63 When we think about what Job went through, 00:07:18.67\00:07:21.70 God allowed that, 00:07:21.74\00:07:23.81 so that His perfect will in this great controversy 00:07:23.84\00:07:28.28 between good and evil can be accomplished. 00:07:28.31\00:07:31.85 His sovereign purposes of demonstrating 00:07:31.88\00:07:34.75 to the angels and all. 00:07:34.78\00:07:37.22 Some sickness the Bible lets us know 00:07:37.25\00:07:39.79 can be because of God's loving discipline. 00:07:39.82\00:07:45.13 Psalms 119: 67. 00:07:45.16\00:07:47.80 Psalms 119: 67, "Before I was afflicted, 00:07:47.83\00:07:51.30 I went astray, but now I keep your word." 00:07:51.33\00:07:55.20 And in 2 Timothy 4:20, 00:07:55.24\00:07:57.74 we see Paul had to leave Trophimus in Miletus sick. 00:07:57.77\00:08:03.41 So what we have to remember 00:08:03.45\00:08:05.41 is that God's ways are higher than our ways. 00:08:05.45\00:08:08.12 He knows the end from the beginning, 00:08:08.15\00:08:09.92 He has our eternal benefit in mind. 00:08:09.95\00:08:13.09 And no, it is not a sin 00:08:13.12\00:08:16.69 if you've got cancer and dying. 00:08:16.73\00:08:18.39 Amen. 00:08:18.43\00:08:19.76 That's a comforting thought 00:08:19.79\00:08:21.16 that God's ways are not our ways. 00:08:21.20\00:08:22.66 Amen. Very comforting. 00:08:22.70\00:08:24.40 "Pastor Day, 00:08:24.43\00:08:25.83 this question is about Revelation 20:14-15. 00:08:25.87\00:08:30.74 In verse 14, it talks about death 00:08:30.77\00:08:33.11 and hell being cast into the lake of fire. 00:08:33.14\00:08:36.01 In verse 15, 00:08:36.04\00:08:37.38 it talks about those not written in the Book of Life 00:08:37.41\00:08:40.05 being cast into the lake of fire, 00:08:40.08\00:08:42.08 not in hell. 00:08:42.12\00:08:43.45 Is hell different than the lake of fire? 00:08:43.49\00:08:45.75 Sounds like they are two different places. 00:08:45.79\00:08:47.72 Thank you." Amen. 00:08:47.76\00:08:49.22 That's actually a really great question. 00:08:49.26\00:08:50.79 And I'm glad that we get an opportunity 00:08:50.83\00:08:52.73 to answer this question because we get to clear up 00:08:52.76\00:08:55.10 exactly what the Bible teaches here. 00:08:55.13\00:08:57.37 This is a prime example of what it means 00:08:57.40\00:08:59.60 in 2 Timothy 2:15, 00:08:59.63\00:09:01.07 "To study to show yourself approved, 00:09:01.10\00:09:02.60 a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, 00:09:02.64\00:09:04.61 rightly dividing the word of truth." 00:09:04.64\00:09:06.07 Because sometimes we got to go a little deeper 00:09:06.11\00:09:07.94 to understand exactly what the text is saying. 00:09:07.98\00:09:10.61 In this case, the answer to your question is yes, 00:09:10.65\00:09:12.85 there technically is two different places 00:09:12.88\00:09:14.68 being described here. 00:09:14.72\00:09:16.32 And I'm going to read the text. 00:09:16.35\00:09:17.69 This is from Revelation 20:14-15. 00:09:17.72\00:09:20.16 Now notice, I'm reading from the New King James, 00:09:20.19\00:09:22.29 the person who submitted this question 00:09:22.32\00:09:24.13 is obviously reading from the King James Version 00:09:24.16\00:09:26.86 because they're referencing death and hell. 00:09:26.90\00:09:29.73 But notice what the New King James says here in verse 14. 00:09:29.76\00:09:32.63 It says, "Then Death and Hades 00:09:32.67\00:09:35.80 were cast into the lake of fire. 00:09:35.84\00:09:37.17 This is the second death." Verse 15. 00:09:37.21\00:09:39.41 "And anyone not found written in the Book of Life 00:09:39.44\00:09:42.28 was cast into the lake of fire." 00:09:42.31\00:09:44.31 So, you know, the word Hades and the word hell, 00:09:44.35\00:09:47.38 there's a reason why the New King James 00:09:47.42\00:09:49.22 translated it this way Hades rather than hell 00:09:49.25\00:09:52.19 because in the original Greek language here, 00:09:52.22\00:09:54.49 when you dig a little deeper, 00:09:54.52\00:09:55.86 you find it's the word Haides in the Greek 00:09:55.89\00:09:58.49 which is actually where we get the word Hades 00:09:58.53\00:10:00.30 which is basically a place where, 00:10:00.33\00:10:02.66 you know, the soul sleeps or in other words, the grave. 00:10:02.70\00:10:05.73 In fact, if you have a Greek Lexicon 00:10:05.77\00:10:07.74 and you want to go look up that word, it'll tell you. 00:10:07.77\00:10:09.70 Another word for Hades is the grave. 00:10:09.74\00:10:11.81 And so in this instance, absolutely, 00:10:11.84\00:10:14.18 what we find here is it's not confusing. 00:10:14.21\00:10:17.25 We're not talking about a place of fire, 00:10:17.28\00:10:19.05 being thrown into a place of fire, 00:10:19.08\00:10:20.82 but rather the place of burning we know is the lake of fire, 00:10:20.85\00:10:23.52 that is hellfire 00:10:23.55\00:10:24.99 where the wicked are being destroyed. 00:10:25.02\00:10:26.35 But in this case, 00:10:26.39\00:10:27.72 and in many other cases in Scripture, 00:10:27.76\00:10:29.09 when we see the word hell or the word Hades, 00:10:29.12\00:10:30.86 it simply means grave. 00:10:30.89\00:10:32.49 And so in this case, death and the grave 00:10:32.53\00:10:35.30 is being cast into the lake of fire. 00:10:35.33\00:10:37.60 In other words, Jesus is putting an end to death. 00:10:37.63\00:10:40.24 And that's why 1 Corinthians Chapter 15, 00:10:40.27\00:10:42.94 I love this right there in verse 55, 00:10:42.97\00:10:44.71 where it says, "O, Death, where is your sting?" 00:10:44.74\00:10:47.38 And, of course, New King James Version, 00:10:47.41\00:10:48.91 "O, Hades, where's your victory?" 00:10:48.94\00:10:50.38 King James says, "Oh, grave, where's your victory?" 00:10:50.41\00:10:53.88 Because again, when Jesus comes back, 00:10:53.92\00:10:55.75 He's putting away all of that. 00:10:55.78\00:10:57.79 And all of that is going to be destroyed in the lake of fire. 00:10:57.82\00:11:00.56 Amen. 00:11:00.59\00:11:01.92 Thank you for the way that you unpack that. 00:11:01.96\00:11:03.93 Pastor Lomacang, we're going to come to you now, 00:11:03.96\00:11:06.46 this question comes out of Brooklyn, New York. 00:11:06.49\00:11:10.20 "Talking to my friend at work, 00:11:10.23\00:11:11.77 I mentioned something about the Bible 00:11:11.80\00:11:13.97 and standing on the Word of God. 00:11:14.00\00:11:16.17 My friend's response was the Bible condones slavery 00:11:16.20\00:11:19.17 and it was written by men and men are not perfect. 00:11:19.21\00:11:22.38 I told her, yes, it was written by men 00:11:22.41\00:11:24.45 with inspiration from God. 00:11:24.48\00:11:26.75 She left me with the impression 00:11:26.78\00:11:28.22 that she did not believe in the Bible, 00:11:28.25\00:11:30.22 although she is a Christian. 00:11:30.25\00:11:32.39 That same week, my brother-in-law 00:11:32.42\00:11:34.36 came into my living room as I was reading my Bible. 00:11:34.39\00:11:37.56 He said, "The Bible was used to justify slavery." 00:11:37.59\00:11:40.53 So he is not interested in reading the Bible. 00:11:40.56\00:11:43.57 I'm writing all this to ask, 00:11:43.60\00:11:45.50 can you be a Christian or have a relationship 00:11:45.53\00:11:48.54 with God without reading or believing in the Bible? 00:11:48.57\00:11:51.77 I am not an Adventist, but I enjoy 3ABN networks." 00:11:51.81\00:11:55.74 Well, thank you for that lengthy question. 00:11:55.78\00:11:58.18 But the point I think, that I need to answer is, 00:11:58.21\00:12:01.58 can you have a relationship with God 00:12:01.62\00:12:03.85 without reading the Bible? 00:12:03.89\00:12:05.22 And the answer is directly no. You cannot. 00:12:05.25\00:12:08.49 It is impossible 00:12:08.52\00:12:09.86 because the Bible is our guide book for any relationship 00:12:09.89\00:12:13.66 that we have with Christ. 00:12:13.70\00:12:15.36 Matthew 4:4, let's start there. 00:12:15.40\00:12:17.17 "Man shall not live by bread alone, 00:12:17.20\00:12:19.37 but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." 00:12:19.40\00:12:23.37 And then when you enter into the relationship with Christ, 00:12:23.41\00:12:25.47 we enter into a sanctifying relationship. 00:12:25.51\00:12:28.11 John 17:17, "Sanctify them by your truth. 00:12:28.14\00:12:31.48 Your word is truth." 00:12:31.51\00:12:32.85 We also enter into a faith walk. 00:12:32.88\00:12:34.72 Romans 10:17, "Faith comes by hearing, 00:12:34.75\00:12:37.19 hearing by the Word of God." 00:12:37.22\00:12:38.89 Then we enter into the transition from milk 00:12:38.92\00:12:42.79 which Peter says, "Desire the sincere milk 00:12:42.82\00:12:44.76 of the Word. 00:12:44.79\00:12:46.13 How can you desire the milk of the Word 00:12:46.16\00:12:47.50 if you don't read the Word?" 00:12:47.53\00:12:48.86 Then we go from the milk of the Word 00:12:48.90\00:12:50.27 to the meat of the Word. 00:12:50.30\00:12:52.00 And in Romans and then Hebrews tells us 00:12:52.03\00:12:54.57 what the Bible, in fact, its larger purpose is. 00:12:54.60\00:12:58.77 Hebrews 4:12, "For the Word of God is living 00:12:58.81\00:13:01.01 and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, 00:13:01.04\00:13:03.98 piercing even to the division of soul 00:13:04.01\00:13:06.08 and spirit and joint and marrow." 00:13:06.11\00:13:08.02 And get this, "And is a discerner 00:13:08.05\00:13:09.82 of the thoughts and intentions of the heart." 00:13:09.85\00:13:11.95 I've often said when you're reading the Bible, 00:13:11.99\00:13:14.02 the Bible is reading you. 00:13:14.06\00:13:15.82 One of the reasons why people don't like to read the Bible 00:13:15.86\00:13:17.93 is because the Bible is reading them. 00:13:17.96\00:13:19.79 It gives them a conscience that is either condemned 00:13:19.83\00:13:23.43 and the Bible says, 00:13:23.47\00:13:24.80 "If your conscience condemns you, 00:13:24.83\00:13:26.77 then God is greater than your heart." 00:13:26.80\00:13:29.60 But that can only come as you read the Bible. 00:13:29.64\00:13:32.54 But lastly, the issue on slavery. 00:13:32.57\00:13:34.78 Slavery is not supported by the Bible. 00:13:34.81\00:13:36.85 Men have used the Bible to impose upon other men slavery. 00:13:36.88\00:13:41.75 The real slavery the Bible talks about is in Romans 6:16. 00:13:41.78\00:13:45.85 "When you yield yourselves, do you not know 00:13:45.89\00:13:47.66 that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, 00:13:47.69\00:13:50.69 you are that one slave whom you obey 00:13:50.73\00:13:52.43 whether of sin leading to death 00:13:52.46\00:13:54.16 or obedience leading to righteousness?" 00:13:54.20\00:13:56.40 The true slavery is not man to man, 00:13:56.43\00:13:59.23 but sin that keeps us from a relationship to Christ. 00:13:59.27\00:14:04.57 Wow. Amen. Thank you. 00:14:04.61\00:14:05.94 Wow. 00:14:05.97\00:14:07.31 People don't want to read their Bible 00:14:07.34\00:14:08.98 because their Bible is reading them. 00:14:09.01\00:14:10.78 That's good. That's, yeah, I really like that. 00:14:10.81\00:14:13.92 Shelley, we're going to come to you on this. 00:14:13.95\00:14:15.58 This is out of Canada. 00:14:15.62\00:14:18.09 It says, "Can you please explain for me 00:14:18.12\00:14:20.09 the meaning of the passage in Exodus 3:14, 00:14:20.12\00:14:24.09 God said to Moses, I am who I am. 00:14:24.13\00:14:27.06 This is what you are to say to the Israelites, 00:14:27.10\00:14:29.80 I am has sent Me to you. 00:14:29.83\00:14:32.00 In John 13:19, Jesus uses the same expression 00:14:32.03\00:14:36.17 to describe Himself. 00:14:36.20\00:14:37.77 I am telling you now before it happens, 00:14:37.81\00:14:39.84 so that when it does happen, 00:14:39.87\00:14:41.31 you will believe that I am who I am. 00:14:41.34\00:14:44.15 What does this tell us about the nature of God?" 00:14:44.18\00:14:47.32 Okay, let's read this really quickly again, 00:14:47.35\00:14:49.95 Howard, in Exodus 3:14-15, 00:14:49.98\00:14:53.22 God says to Moses, "I am who I am." 00:14:53.25\00:14:56.22 In the Hebrew, this is a verb 00:14:56.26\00:15:01.20 that means to be or to exist. 00:15:01.23\00:15:04.90 Tell the children of Israel, 'I am has sent Me. 00:15:04.93\00:15:08.34 Tell them the Lord God of your fathers, 00:15:08.37\00:15:10.81 the God of Abraham, Isaac and the Lord of Jacob 00:15:10.84\00:15:13.84 has sent Me to you. 00:15:13.88\00:15:15.58 This is my name forever. 00:15:15.61\00:15:18.65 And this is my memorial to all generations." 00:15:18.68\00:15:22.85 So, I am, the verb is to be or to exist 00:15:22.88\00:15:27.09 and in the tense that it's used, 00:15:27.12\00:15:29.62 God is declaring that He is self-existent, 00:15:29.66\00:15:32.69 eternal, self-sufficient, 00:15:32.73\00:15:34.66 self-directed, unchanging. 00:15:34.70\00:15:37.30 This is, He is giving Moses 00:15:37.33\00:15:40.64 His proper holy covenant name. 00:15:40.67\00:15:45.51 This is His personal name. 00:15:45.54\00:15:47.31 From this verb is where we get Yahweh. 00:15:47.34\00:15:50.81 He's revealing His name, revealing His presence, 00:15:50.85\00:15:55.02 He's more than Adonai. 00:15:55.05\00:15:56.89 He's the God 00:15:56.92\00:15:58.25 who wants an intimate relationship with him. 00:15:58.29\00:16:03.16 So this is the God of your fathers, 00:16:03.19\00:16:05.69 He never changes. 00:16:05.73\00:16:07.16 Now, Jesus said in John 8:58, 00:16:07.20\00:16:10.37 "Most assuredly, I say to you, 00:16:10.40\00:16:13.44 before Abraham was, I am." 00:16:13.47\00:16:17.97 He is, this is definitely 00:16:18.01\00:16:22.08 the greatest argument Jesus ever used for His immortality, 00:16:22.11\00:16:26.48 His eternal existence. 00:16:26.51\00:16:29.15 He's declaring Himself 00:16:29.18\00:16:32.22 to be the preexistent God of the Covenant, Yahweh. 00:16:32.25\00:16:37.03 And then when He said this, you know what? 00:16:37.06\00:16:40.53 Jesus knew what He was doing 00:16:40.56\00:16:42.06 because they wanted to stone Him. 00:16:42.10\00:16:44.80 Malachi 3:6, God says, "I'm the Lord, I change not." 00:16:44.83\00:16:48.30 Hebrews 13:8, 00:16:48.34\00:16:49.87 "He, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, 00:16:49.90\00:16:52.27 today and forever. 00:16:52.31\00:16:53.74 I am Yahweh." 00:16:53.78\00:16:56.11 Amen. Amen. 00:16:56.14\00:16:57.55 Thank you, Shelley. 00:16:57.58\00:16:59.21 "Pastor Day, please explain about no need to teach 00:16:59.25\00:17:02.55 new law to neighbors and relatives 00:17:02.58\00:17:04.55 because God wrote it in their hearts. 00:17:04.59\00:17:06.96 How does this square up with preaching the gospel?" 00:17:06.99\00:17:09.39 This comes from Travis out of Washington State. 00:17:09.42\00:17:11.69 All right. Well, this is a great question. 00:17:11.73\00:17:13.70 You know, a lot of people 00:17:13.73\00:17:15.06 and I think I kind of understand where this person 00:17:15.10\00:17:16.67 is coming from who submitted the question. 00:17:16.70\00:17:19.37 And that is, many people can read Hebrews 8:10-11, 00:17:19.40\00:17:23.47 which obviously is within the context 00:17:23.51\00:17:25.57 of this New Covenant that God is establishing with us, 00:17:25.61\00:17:28.61 in which it says there in verse 10 00:17:28.64\00:17:30.41 of Hebrews Chapter 8 that 00:17:30.45\00:17:31.78 "I will put My laws in their mind 00:17:31.81\00:17:33.31 and write them in their hearts, and I will be their God 00:17:33.35\00:17:35.12 and they shall be My people." 00:17:35.15\00:17:36.89 But then verse 11 is the verse in question here. 00:17:36.92\00:17:39.12 It says, "None of them shall teach his neighbor, 00:17:39.15\00:17:41.32 and none his brother saying, 'Know the Lord, 00:17:41.36\00:17:44.13 for all shall know Me from the least of them 00:17:44.16\00:17:46.83 to the greatest of them.'" 00:17:46.86\00:17:48.20 And so, it almost seems like God is saying, 00:17:48.23\00:17:50.33 "Look, I'm going to do this but you don't have to go 00:17:50.37\00:17:52.07 tell anyone about My law, 00:17:52.10\00:17:53.44 or tell anyone about My goodness 00:17:53.47\00:17:54.80 or tell anyone, let me do that because they're going to." 00:17:54.84\00:17:56.60 No, no, no. 00:17:56.64\00:17:57.97 It's not saying that we should just not teach the law, 00:17:58.01\00:17:59.47 not teach the Ten Commandments. 00:17:59.51\00:18:01.41 The advantage of the New Covenant 00:18:01.44\00:18:03.24 over the Old one is that the believer 00:18:03.28\00:18:05.18 is to have a personal knowledge of God. 00:18:05.21\00:18:08.68 Through Christ, we have direct access to God. 00:18:08.72\00:18:11.32 And, of course, we know this because we are to be led 00:18:11.35\00:18:13.92 by the Spirit according to Romans 8:14, 00:18:13.96\00:18:16.79 we are to be taught of God according 00:18:16.83\00:18:18.56 to 1 Thessalonians 4:9 00:18:18.59\00:18:21.03 and to be filled with all the fullness 00:18:21.06\00:18:23.47 of God according to Ephesians 3:14-21. 00:18:23.50\00:18:26.63 And so we know that, yes, 00:18:26.67\00:18:28.64 God is going to do a mighty work 00:18:28.67\00:18:30.17 that we can't do in it of ourselves 00:18:30.21\00:18:31.97 or in someone else. 00:18:32.01\00:18:33.34 But that being said, we know that, of course, 00:18:33.38\00:18:35.14 the key word I believe here in this verse 00:18:35.18\00:18:36.75 is know the Lord because in this case, 00:18:36.78\00:18:39.68 we know that how we know Him, 00:18:39.71\00:18:41.35 according to 1 John 2:3-4, 00:18:41.38\00:18:44.65 is if we keep His commandments, 00:18:44.69\00:18:46.19 that's what the Bible says there. 00:18:46.22\00:18:47.79 And even Jesus Himself said, "Do not think 00:18:47.82\00:18:49.52 that I've come to destroy the law, 00:18:49.56\00:18:51.73 I have not come to destroy but to fulfill." 00:18:51.76\00:18:53.60 That's Matthew 5:17 00:18:53.63\00:18:56.00 and what's interesting is right after that, 00:18:56.03\00:18:58.27 and in verse 19, He says, 00:18:58.30\00:19:01.44 "Whoever therefore breaks one of the least 00:19:01.47\00:19:03.10 of these commandments and teaches men 00:19:03.14\00:19:04.57 so shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven." 00:19:04.61\00:19:06.88 So in this case, 00:19:06.91\00:19:08.24 we are to teach the law of God, 00:19:08.28\00:19:09.68 we are to uphold that law 00:19:09.71\00:19:11.05 that He's writing in our minds and in our hearts. 00:19:11.08\00:19:13.11 But what I believe this verse is emphasizing 00:19:13.15\00:19:15.42 is the fact that God is the one doing the work. 00:19:15.45\00:19:17.79 God is doing the calling. 00:19:17.82\00:19:19.15 God is doing the teaching, 00:19:19.19\00:19:20.52 but we also are to declare His goodness, 00:19:20.56\00:19:22.56 according to the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:19:22.59\00:19:24.23 My last verse here I want to share, 00:19:24.26\00:19:26.13 which answers this last part here, 00:19:26.16\00:19:28.53 according to the question here, which says, 00:19:28.56\00:19:29.90 how does this square up with the preaching 00:19:29.93\00:19:31.27 of the gospel? 00:19:31.30\00:19:32.63 Acts 2:42, it says, 00:19:32.67\00:19:34.50 "And they continued steadfast in the apostles' 00:19:34.54\00:19:37.01 doctrine and fellowship in the breaking of bread 00:19:37.04\00:19:40.14 and in prayers." 00:19:40.18\00:19:41.51 The apostles' doctrine, of course, 00:19:41.54\00:19:42.88 was that of the truth that Jesus taught them 00:19:42.91\00:19:45.18 and we are to continue that as well according 00:19:45.21\00:19:47.48 to the New Covenant as its best specified. 00:19:47.52\00:19:49.72 Amen. 00:19:49.75\00:19:51.09 I love that because, you know, so often you hear, 00:19:51.12\00:19:52.95 oh, I'm a New Testament Christian, 00:19:52.99\00:19:54.66 like you hear that all the time, 00:19:54.69\00:19:56.02 so that's very, very important. Pastor Lomacang, 00:19:56.06\00:19:58.99 this question comes to you, 00:19:59.03\00:20:00.36 it's from Evette out of New Jersey. 00:20:00.40\00:20:04.07 "What is the Spirit of Prophecy?" 00:20:04.10\00:20:07.27 That's an very interesting question, 00:20:07.30\00:20:09.30 but a very direct answer I can give. 00:20:09.34\00:20:11.81 Simply put the two words together. 00:20:11.84\00:20:13.51 Spirit who is involved in clarifying prophecy. 00:20:13.54\00:20:18.08 Let me start with a passage. 00:20:18.11\00:20:19.71 And I'll mention two of those because these two passages 00:20:19.75\00:20:22.25 together give us the full picture 00:20:22.28\00:20:24.09 of what many people understand. 00:20:24.12\00:20:25.82 Revelation 12:17, 00:20:25.85\00:20:27.22 "And the dragon was enraged with a woman 00:20:27.26\00:20:29.52 and went to make war with the rest of her offspring, 00:20:29.56\00:20:31.79 who keep the commandments of God 00:20:31.83\00:20:33.16 and have the testimony of Jesus." 00:20:33.19\00:20:34.60 Revelation 19:10, 00:20:34.63\00:20:35.96 "The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy." 00:20:36.00\00:20:38.77 Now we have to ask ourselves the question 00:20:38.80\00:20:40.77 is the Spirit of Prophecy 00:20:40.80\00:20:42.24 a human or is the Spirit of Prophecy the Holy Spirit? 00:20:42.27\00:20:47.64 The second is true. 00:20:47.68\00:20:49.01 The Spirit of Prophecy is a gift 00:20:49.04\00:20:50.45 that has been imparted to men and women, 00:20:50.48\00:20:52.95 so that they can exercise the gift 00:20:52.98\00:20:56.65 that has been given to the church. 00:20:56.69\00:20:58.45 You know, Revelation, I mean, 2 Peter 1:21 gives us clarity. 00:20:58.49\00:21:02.02 The Bible says, 00:21:02.06\00:21:03.39 "For prophecy never came by the will of man." 00:21:03.43\00:21:05.59 So it's not something belonged to persons, 00:21:05.63\00:21:08.13 but holy men of God spoke as they were moved 00:21:08.16\00:21:10.20 by the Holy Spirit. 00:21:10.23\00:21:12.40 And when you find all throughout the Old Testament, 00:21:12.43\00:21:14.07 you find starting in the Book of Numbers, 00:21:14.10\00:21:16.40 the Lord as He began to work through Moses, 00:21:16.44\00:21:19.47 speaking directly to Pharaoh 00:21:19.51\00:21:21.11 and then speaking to the children of Israel, 00:21:21.14\00:21:22.88 He made it very, very clear 00:21:22.91\00:21:24.41 that the Holy Spirit will be poured out on the prophets. 00:21:24.45\00:21:27.95 And we find also in Joel 2:28, 00:21:27.98\00:21:31.25 "It shall come to pass in the last days." 00:21:31.29\00:21:32.95 Acts Chapter 2 is a reflection of the fulfillment 00:21:32.99\00:21:36.02 of Joel Chapter 2. 00:21:36.06\00:21:37.39 What does the Bible say? 00:21:37.43\00:21:39.19 "I will pour out My spirit on all flesh, 00:21:39.23\00:21:41.83 your sons and your daughters shall prophesy." 00:21:41.86\00:21:44.30 So the Spirit is the one that's revealing 00:21:44.33\00:21:45.97 to the person prophesying 00:21:46.00\00:21:47.54 what the prophecy should be and also to be understood. 00:21:47.57\00:21:50.91 So clearly speaking, 00:21:50.94\00:21:52.54 if I could narrow down to the context of the question, 00:21:52.57\00:21:55.08 as an Adventist, 00:21:55.11\00:21:56.51 we say that that gift was given to Ellen White, 00:21:56.54\00:21:59.31 but she's not the Spirit of Prophecy, 00:21:59.35\00:22:01.38 she's just simply exercising 00:22:01.42\00:22:02.95 the gift of the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:22:02.98\00:22:05.62 And why is that? 00:22:05.65\00:22:07.29 1 Corinthians 1:6-8, 00:22:07.32\00:22:10.53 clearly saying, 00:22:10.56\00:22:13.19 "Even the testimony of Christ which was confirmed in you, 00:22:13.23\00:22:16.90 so that you come short in no gift." 00:22:16.93\00:22:19.53 When the Bible warns of false prophets, 00:22:19.57\00:22:22.10 it's a confirmation that they'll also be true prophets, 00:22:22.14\00:22:24.47 and the Holy Spirit will speak through a true prophet 00:22:24.51\00:22:27.94 in harmony with the Word of God. 00:22:27.98\00:22:29.64 Amen. 00:22:29.68\00:22:31.01 Wonderful. I love that. 00:22:31.05\00:22:32.38 I think that was the key right there, 00:22:32.41\00:22:34.58 in harmony with the will of God. 00:22:34.62\00:22:36.48 That's excellent. 00:22:36.52\00:22:37.85 Now, you may be sitting there wondering, well, 00:22:37.89\00:22:39.89 how can I send in my questions? 00:22:39.92\00:22:42.36 Well, this is where I get to share 00:22:42.39\00:22:44.13 that wonderful information with you. 00:22:44.16\00:22:46.46 You can email your questions 00:22:46.49\00:22:47.90 to BibleQA@3abn.TV 00:22:47.93\00:22:52.63 Again, that's BibleQA@3abn.TV 00:22:52.67\00:22:57.67 or you can text us at 618-228-3975. 00:22:57.71\00:23:03.24 Again, that's 618-228-3975. 00:23:03.28\00:23:07.55 If you're on Instagram, 00:23:07.58\00:23:08.95 just go to at 3abn_official 00:23:08.98\00:23:13.62 and send us a message there. 00:23:13.66\00:23:15.12 Again, that's at 3abn_official 00:23:15.16\00:23:20.26 and just send us a DM there. 00:23:20.30\00:23:23.50 Shelley, we're going to come to you on this one. 00:23:23.53\00:23:26.47 "It seems that to bring others to Jesus, 00:23:26.50\00:23:29.44 we must rub shoulders with them as Jesus did. 00:23:29.47\00:23:32.77 So what are we to make of 2 John 9-11? 00:23:32.81\00:23:36.91 Oh, great questions. 00:23:36.95\00:23:38.28 Well, first of all, Jesus hung out with unsaved sinners. 00:23:38.31\00:23:41.55 He showed them compassion, mercy, love and patience, 00:23:41.58\00:23:45.45 but He never condoned their lifestyle. 00:23:45.49\00:23:48.39 He never approved of their lifestyle. 00:23:48.42\00:23:51.49 He practiced what we would call today friendship evangelism. 00:23:51.53\00:23:55.83 Before we go to 2 John, let's look at 1 Corinthians 00:23:55.86\00:23:58.93 because this will give you a really good hint. 00:23:58.97\00:24:01.00 1 Corinthians 5:9-13, 00:24:01.04\00:24:05.54 Paul is kind of clarifying, 00:24:05.57\00:24:08.28 expanding something that he had told the church earlier 00:24:08.31\00:24:12.08 and the church at Corinth misinterpreted. 00:24:12.11\00:24:15.38 Paul said, "Hey, 00:24:15.42\00:24:16.75 don't have anything to do with sexually immoral people." 00:24:16.79\00:24:19.69 So the church at Corinth was stopping their contact 00:24:19.72\00:24:25.36 with the unsaved world. 00:24:25.39\00:24:27.20 And here's what he says, 1 Corinthians 5:10, 00:24:27.23\00:24:30.40 "I certainly did not mean 00:24:30.43\00:24:33.74 with the sexually immoral people of this world, 00:24:33.77\00:24:36.74 or with the covetous, extortioners, idolaters, 00:24:36.77\00:24:40.18 since then you would need to go out of the world." 00:24:40.21\00:24:44.68 In other words, Paul is saying to them, 00:24:44.71\00:24:46.55 "No, no, no, no, 00:24:46.58\00:24:47.92 I'm not talking about the people 00:24:47.95\00:24:50.22 outside the church who practice this. 00:24:50.25\00:24:52.65 I'm saying don't associate with the people inside the church 00:24:52.69\00:24:57.26 who do this." 00:24:57.29\00:24:58.89 So 2 John 00:24:58.93\00:25:01.96 and you asked about verses 9-11. 00:25:02.00\00:25:06.94 Let's look at verse 7. In verse 7. 00:25:06.97\00:25:10.71 This is the same principle of 1 Corinthians Chapter 5. 00:25:10.74\00:25:14.74 2 John in verse 7, 00:25:14.78\00:25:18.11 there's only one chapter, says, it's talking about deceivers, 00:25:18.15\00:25:22.08 false teachers that were campaigning 00:25:22.12\00:25:24.85 against the fundamental truths of Christianity, even saying, 00:25:24.89\00:25:28.89 they wouldn't confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. 00:25:28.92\00:25:31.93 Verse 9 says, 00:25:31.96\00:25:33.29 "They didn't abide in the doctrine of Christ." 00:25:33.33\00:25:35.06 Verse 10, then says this, 00:25:35.10\00:25:37.83 "If anyone comes to you 00:25:37.87\00:25:39.33 and does not bring this doctrine, 00:25:39.37\00:25:41.57 do not receive him into your house, 00:25:41.60\00:25:44.07 don't even greet him." 00:25:44.11\00:25:45.87 You're not supposed to. 00:25:45.91\00:25:47.24 We should recognize heretics, we should not support heretics, 00:25:47.28\00:25:50.71 because verse 11 says, 00:25:50.75\00:25:52.48 "If you're supporting them, 00:25:52.51\00:25:54.28 you are participating in their evil deeds, 00:25:54.32\00:25:57.09 because it's leaving the impression 00:25:57.12\00:26:00.39 that you sanction their teachings." 00:26:00.42\00:26:02.02 So our loyalty has to be to the truth of God's Word. 00:26:02.06\00:26:06.56 Amen. Amen. 00:26:06.59\00:26:07.93 And then friendship evangelism is so crucial. 00:26:07.96\00:26:11.23 Implementing Christ method of evangelism. 00:26:11.27\00:26:14.30 "Pastor Day, 00:26:14.34\00:26:15.67 I am a Seventh-day Adventist since young, 00:26:15.70\00:26:19.47 I guess, since they were younger 00:26:19.51\00:26:21.44 and many preachers always said that Jesus is coming again. 00:26:21.48\00:26:24.68 Now I am almost 30 and Jesus hasn't come. 00:26:24.71\00:26:28.05 How can I be sure that Jesus' Second Coming is real and near? 00:26:28.08\00:26:32.59 All right. 00:26:32.62\00:26:33.96 So the person who sent this question in, 00:26:33.99\00:26:36.76 that's a good question, but it's, you know, 00:26:36.79\00:26:38.89 it's prophetically told to us 00:26:38.93\00:26:40.63 that this same question would be declared, 00:26:40.66\00:26:43.10 but in kind of a scoffing in the last days. 00:26:43.13\00:26:44.93 Notice what 2 Peter 3:3 says, "Knowing this first 00:26:44.97\00:26:48.77 that scoffers will come in the last days 00:26:48.80\00:26:50.21 walking according to their own lust." 00:26:50.24\00:26:52.94 And it goes on to say, and saying, 00:26:52.97\00:26:54.64 "Where is the promise of His coming 00:26:54.68\00:26:56.04 for since the fathers fell asleep, 00:26:56.08\00:26:57.71 all things continue as they were, 00:26:57.75\00:26:59.71 from the beginning of creation." 00:26:59.75\00:27:01.35 I'm certainly not calling the person 00:27:01.38\00:27:03.15 who sent this in a scoffer 00:27:03.18\00:27:04.52 because I think many people have asked this question 00:27:04.55\00:27:06.89 and expressed doubt over time. 00:27:06.92\00:27:09.06 But nonetheless, my friend, 00:27:09.09\00:27:10.43 I think that this is where you have to exercise trust, 00:27:10.46\00:27:14.00 deep trust in God and His Word, 00:27:14.03\00:27:16.46 because this is a Word of God thing. 00:27:16.50\00:27:18.50 We have to learn to not trust ourselves but the Word of God. 00:27:18.53\00:27:21.27 I'm thinking of Proverbs 3:5-6 where it says, 00:27:21.30\00:27:24.27 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, 00:27:24.31\00:27:25.94 and lean not on your own understanding, 00:27:25.97\00:27:27.84 in all your ways acknowledge Him, 00:27:27.88\00:27:29.44 and He will direct your path." 00:27:29.48\00:27:31.68 And so in this case, you know, 00:27:31.71\00:27:33.05 we need to understand that the word... 00:27:33.08\00:27:34.98 Pastor quoted this earlier, Romans 10:17, 00:27:35.02\00:27:37.99 "Faith comes by hearing 00:27:38.02\00:27:39.35 and hearing by the Word of God." 00:27:39.39\00:27:40.72 Our faith is built. Our trust in God is built. 00:27:40.76\00:27:42.99 When we get into the Word of God, 00:27:43.02\00:27:44.79 the Holy Spirit, 00:27:44.83\00:27:46.16 the Bible calls it the Spirit of Truth, 00:27:46.19\00:27:47.80 according to John 16:13, 00:27:47.83\00:27:50.37 it will guide us into all truth 00:27:50.40\00:27:52.40 and it will build our trust in God's Word to help us 00:27:52.43\00:27:55.37 to believe and trust in what He has said He will do, 00:27:55.40\00:27:58.77 He's going to do. 00:27:58.81\00:28:00.14 And in this case, John 14:1-3, 00:28:00.18\00:28:02.64 we're told Jesus made a promise that He was going to go away 00:28:02.68\00:28:06.21 and if He goes away to prepare a place for us, 00:28:06.25\00:28:07.95 He will come again to receive us 00:28:07.98\00:28:09.48 that where He is there we may be also. 00:28:09.52\00:28:11.62 That's a promise and the Bible makes it clear in Hebrews 6:18, 00:28:11.65\00:28:15.32 that God does not lie. 00:28:15.36\00:28:17.46 God doesn't change as Shelley brought out earlier. 00:28:17.49\00:28:19.96 God has spoken, His Word is sure. 00:28:20.00\00:28:21.80 We have a more sure word of prophecy 00:28:21.83\00:28:24.30 as told there in 2 Peter Chapter 1 00:28:24.33\00:28:26.87 that we have to believe in, 00:28:26.90\00:28:28.30 we have to ground ourselves in the belief and trust that 00:28:28.34\00:28:30.91 what God has said He will do. 00:28:30.94\00:28:32.71 And I will just in the last few moments that I have here, 00:28:32.74\00:28:35.14 I just have to emphasize, go read Matthew 24. 00:28:35.18\00:28:38.58 I mean, if you have any understanding 00:28:38.61\00:28:40.12 at all of the signs of the times 00:28:40.15\00:28:41.98 and the things that have been happening, 00:28:42.02\00:28:43.35 we can see that every single thing 00:28:43.39\00:28:45.05 that Jesus has spoken with the exception 00:28:45.09\00:28:46.86 of a couple of things has happened 00:28:46.89\00:28:48.22 just as He said it would. 00:28:48.26\00:28:49.92 Prophecy confirms with all the signs of the time, 00:28:49.96\00:28:52.69 just as in the parable of the fig tree there, 00:28:52.73\00:28:54.63 "That as you see the leaves turning, 00:28:54.66\00:28:56.00 know summer is near even so He said, 00:28:56.03\00:28:58.17 when you see these things happening, 00:28:58.20\00:29:00.07 know that my coming is even at the door." 00:29:00.10\00:29:02.10 So in this case, look unto Jesus the author 00:29:02.14\00:29:04.51 and finisher of your faith. 00:29:04.54\00:29:05.87 Look into His Word, study His Word, 00:29:05.91\00:29:08.34 build a relationship and your trust will grow. 00:29:08.38\00:29:10.65 Your faith will grow and you will see 00:29:10.68\00:29:12.08 that what the Bible has said, it is true. 00:29:12.11\00:29:14.28 It will come to pass just as He said, He is soon to come. 00:29:14.32\00:29:17.79 Amen. Amen. 00:29:17.82\00:29:19.89 "Pastor Lomacang, Abel and Cain gave up their first fruits, 00:29:19.92\00:29:24.06 and why was Abel's first fruit accepted and not Cain's?" 00:29:24.09\00:29:27.66 This is from Merrill. 00:29:27.70\00:29:29.16 Well, Cain gave fruits, 00:29:29.20\00:29:32.67 Abel gave a sacrifice. 00:29:32.70\00:29:35.70 Genesis Chapter 4. 00:29:35.74\00:29:37.17 Let's look at the description of what the Bible says 00:29:37.21\00:29:41.54 as you compare. 00:29:41.58\00:29:42.91 The question, why was Abel's first fruit accepted 00:29:42.94\00:29:45.08 and not Cain's? 00:29:45.11\00:29:46.65 This is simply a comparison 00:29:46.68\00:29:48.18 between requirement versus preference. 00:29:48.22\00:29:51.75 And ever since Cain and Abel, 00:29:51.79\00:29:53.15 we've always had two types of worshipers, 00:29:53.19\00:29:55.59 those who give God what He requires 00:29:55.62\00:29:57.79 and those who give God what they prefer. 00:29:57.83\00:30:00.20 That's still true to this very day. 00:30:00.23\00:30:02.53 Genesis 4:3, 00:30:02.56\00:30:04.47 "And in the process of time it came to pass 00:30:04.50\00:30:06.37 that Cain brought an offering of the fruit 00:30:06.40\00:30:10.54 of the ground to the Lord." 00:30:10.57\00:30:12.71 Now, this was from a tree. 00:30:12.74\00:30:15.21 But verse 4, 00:30:15.24\00:30:16.58 "Abel also brought up the firstborn of his flock 00:30:16.61\00:30:20.08 and of their fat." 00:30:20.12\00:30:21.45 This is an animal, of lamb. 00:30:21.48\00:30:23.49 The Bible, Revelation 13:8, 00:30:23.52\00:30:24.85 "The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." 00:30:24.89\00:30:27.02 The Lord established what He was going to accept. 00:30:27.06\00:30:30.83 In the temple services, 00:30:30.86\00:30:32.26 you find there was always some animal 00:30:32.29\00:30:34.30 whose life had to be sacrificed as a symbol of Christ. 00:30:34.33\00:30:38.13 But notice, the question was, 00:30:38.17\00:30:40.64 what happened as a result of that? 00:30:40.67\00:30:42.90 Verse 4, "Abel also brought up the firstborn 00:30:42.94\00:30:45.34 of his flock and of their fat. 00:30:45.37\00:30:47.08 And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not," 00:30:47.11\00:30:50.68 verse 5, "respect Cain and his offering. 00:30:50.71\00:30:53.55 And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell." 00:30:53.58\00:30:57.35 Verse 6, "So the Lord said to Cain, 'Why are you angry? 00:30:57.39\00:31:00.12 And why have your countenance fallen? 00:31:00.16\00:31:01.72 If you do well, will you not be accepted?'" 00:31:01.76\00:31:04.06 That's the key. 00:31:04.09\00:31:05.43 If you do what God asked, you will be accepted. 00:31:05.46\00:31:07.90 But He says, "And if you do not do well, 00:31:07.93\00:31:11.40 sin lies at your door. 00:31:11.43\00:31:12.97 And its desire is for you, 00:31:13.00\00:31:14.77 but you should not rule over it." 00:31:14.80\00:31:16.60 Now verse 8 is where I will end. 00:31:16.64\00:31:18.64 "Now Cain talked with Abel his brother, 00:31:18.67\00:31:20.38 and it came to pass when they were in the field, 00:31:20.41\00:31:22.31 that Cain rose up against Abel, 00:31:22.34\00:31:23.95 his brother, and killed him." 00:31:23.98\00:31:26.35 And that's where you have, Am I my brother's keeper? 00:31:26.38\00:31:28.35 So the nutshell of it is, 00:31:28.38\00:31:30.05 this is a battle between requirement and preference. 00:31:30.09\00:31:33.25 Abel gave what God required. 00:31:33.29\00:31:34.99 Cain gave what he preferred. 00:31:35.02\00:31:37.46 I love that, requirement and preference. 00:31:37.49\00:31:40.30 "Shelley, why is it that Adam is blamed 00:31:40.33\00:31:43.26 more strongly than Eve for our fall 00:31:43.30\00:31:45.60 when it was Eve who left Adam's side 00:31:45.63\00:31:47.97 and went off on her own, 00:31:48.00\00:31:49.77 was encountered by the serpent, 00:31:49.80\00:31:51.71 had a conversation with him 00:31:51.74\00:31:53.07 and allowed him to persuade her? 00:31:53.11\00:31:55.74 Is it because Adam gave in and partook of the fruit 00:31:55.78\00:31:59.25 and because he was the first created 00:31:59.28\00:32:01.32 and given dominion over the earth?" 00:32:01.35\00:32:03.28 This is from Vanessa. Vanessa, what a great question. 00:32:03.32\00:32:06.86 Genesis 3:13 tells us that Eve was beguiled, 00:32:06.89\00:32:11.13 she was seduced. 00:32:11.16\00:32:12.49 She was deceived, deluded. 00:32:12.53\00:32:15.26 But in 1 Timothy 2:14. 00:32:15.30\00:32:18.43 1 Timothy 2:14. 00:32:18.47\00:32:20.24 It said, "Adam was not deceived, 00:32:20.27\00:32:22.97 but the woman being deceived fell into transgression." 00:32:23.00\00:32:26.21 So Adam intentionally sinned in the full knowledge 00:32:26.24\00:32:29.18 of what God's requirement was, 00:32:29.21\00:32:31.21 he voluntarily took of this fruit 00:32:31.25\00:32:33.75 because of his love for his wife 00:32:33.78\00:32:36.08 and he didn't want to be separated from her. 00:32:36.12\00:32:39.15 He chose to blatantly disobey God 00:32:39.19\00:32:42.56 and here's the important part, you hit on it. 00:32:42.59\00:32:45.26 He is violating his leadership role. 00:32:45.29\00:32:49.46 God created Adam, Adam was the representative of all mankind. 00:32:49.50\00:32:55.24 And when Adam did this, he plunged all men into sin. 00:32:55.27\00:32:59.67 1 Corinthians 15:22, "As in Adam all die, 00:32:59.71\00:33:05.05 even so in Christ, all shall be made alive." 00:33:05.08\00:33:07.85 And in 1 Corinthians 15:45-47 says, 00:33:07.88\00:33:11.65 "The first man, Adam, made of the dust of the earth, 00:33:11.69\00:33:15.46 became a living being but the last Adam, 00:33:15.49\00:33:18.69 this is our God, who came down, 00:33:18.73\00:33:22.26 took on our flesh became a human being, 00:33:22.30\00:33:25.07 so that He could be the last Adam. 00:33:25.10\00:33:27.54 The new representative of mankind." 00:33:27.57\00:33:30.57 Says the last Adam became a life giving spirit. 00:33:30.61\00:33:35.64 The second man 00:33:35.68\00:33:37.85 is the Lord from heaven, 00:33:37.88\00:33:41.75 how amazing. 00:33:41.78\00:33:43.42 The Lord God, our Creator, 00:33:43.45\00:33:46.42 came down and became the person of Jesus Christ. 00:33:46.45\00:33:51.19 And not only did He condescend to that, but He died, 00:33:51.23\00:33:55.93 He was resurrected, He went to heaven, 00:33:55.96\00:33:59.87 ascended in that flesh, 00:33:59.90\00:34:01.97 He sits at the right hand of the throne of the Father, 00:34:02.00\00:34:04.97 as the new representative of mankind. 00:34:05.01\00:34:08.88 Hallelujah. Amen. 00:34:08.91\00:34:10.78 That's powerful. 00:34:10.81\00:34:13.68 Pastor Day, this is coming from Marie. 00:34:13.72\00:34:16.89 "Is it disrespectful or even a sin to be cremated 00:34:16.92\00:34:20.69 when we depart this world?" 00:34:20.72\00:34:22.46 Amen. Thank you so much, Marie, for your question. 00:34:22.49\00:34:24.83 And it's a good question because it's one of the most 00:34:24.86\00:34:26.90 popular questions. 00:34:26.93\00:34:28.26 I think that evangelists and pastors 00:34:28.30\00:34:29.96 and ministers get all the time 00:34:30.00\00:34:31.73 because we live in a world 00:34:31.77\00:34:33.10 where, you know, we have options, right? 00:34:33.13\00:34:34.54 There's people who believe in the more traditional way 00:34:34.57\00:34:36.94 of burial and there's other people 00:34:36.97\00:34:38.97 that believe in this cremation process. 00:34:39.01\00:34:41.34 But there's a little bit of a contention 00:34:41.38\00:34:42.81 among some Christians because some say 00:34:42.84\00:34:44.21 it's disrespectful. 00:34:44.25\00:34:45.58 Like you said, some people believe it's even a sin. 00:34:45.61\00:34:48.15 But as Christians, we have to be people of the Word. 00:34:48.18\00:34:51.45 And if we're going to go and tell someone that they're, 00:34:51.49\00:34:54.06 you know, violating God's will or they're sinning if they, 00:34:54.09\00:34:56.83 you know, dispose of the body in the form of cremation. 00:34:56.86\00:34:59.43 We have to be able to prove that from the Word of God. 00:34:59.46\00:35:01.63 And so the direct answer to this question is no, 00:35:01.66\00:35:04.63 because the Bible does not explicitly 00:35:04.67\00:35:06.63 or even in principle in the closest remote way, 00:35:06.67\00:35:10.61 tell us that it's a sin 00:35:10.64\00:35:12.24 if someone chooses the process of cremation. 00:35:12.27\00:35:14.64 In fact, you know, there's people in history 00:35:14.68\00:35:17.85 who were, their burial process really wasn't a choice 00:35:17.88\00:35:21.88 and they were cremated. 00:35:21.92\00:35:23.25 They were burned alive at the stake. 00:35:23.28\00:35:24.62 I mean, we have martyrs mentioned there in Revelation 00:35:24.65\00:35:27.26 Chapter 6 and 7. 00:35:27.29\00:35:29.39 And we know that these martyrs, 00:35:29.42\00:35:30.76 these are righteous people who, again, they were burned alive, 00:35:30.79\00:35:33.40 they were brought to ashes, 00:35:33.43\00:35:34.76 but yet they will be in the kingdom of God. 00:35:34.80\00:35:37.50 And I think where some people get confused on is, you know, 00:35:37.53\00:35:40.20 yes, we know in Genesis 2:7, 00:35:40.24\00:35:42.04 where God created and formed Adam 00:35:42.07\00:35:44.01 from the dust of the ground, He breathed into his nostrils 00:35:44.04\00:35:46.01 and man became a living soul. 00:35:46.04\00:35:47.51 And then when you get to Ecclesiastes, there, 00:35:47.54\00:35:50.18 Ecclesiastes 12:7, you know, first to the dead, 00:35:50.21\00:35:52.55 returning to the earth, as it was. 00:35:52.58\00:35:55.38 But again, we have to be people of the Bible, 00:35:55.42\00:35:57.39 even though, yes, we are going to return 00:35:57.42\00:35:59.25 no matter how we're buried, 00:35:59.29\00:36:00.72 no matter how we leave this world, 00:36:00.76\00:36:02.89 we will return to the earth as it was, 00:36:02.92\00:36:05.46 but nonetheless, the process, 00:36:05.49\00:36:07.06 the burial process or the disposal process 00:36:07.10\00:36:09.83 in the form of cremation. 00:36:09.86\00:36:11.77 We cannot prove from the Bible 00:36:11.80\00:36:13.30 that it is a sin or disrespectful. 00:36:13.34\00:36:15.14 So in this case, we have to be patient with our brother, 00:36:15.17\00:36:18.57 not allow it to be an issue of contention. 00:36:18.61\00:36:21.14 Just let it be an issue of personal decision. 00:36:21.18\00:36:24.51 Amen. Amen. 00:36:24.55\00:36:26.65 Pastor Lomacang, this question comes from Rex. 00:36:26.68\00:36:29.82 "For some time now I've been wondering 00:36:29.85\00:36:31.99 and needing clarification on this question. 00:36:32.02\00:36:34.82 Would there be a second death for those who died 00:36:34.86\00:36:37.76 when God destroyed the earth by water 00:36:37.79\00:36:39.69 and those who were destroyed by fire in Sodom and Gomorrah? 00:36:39.73\00:36:43.13 I need a Bible reference if possible." 00:36:43.16\00:36:45.13 Sure. 00:36:45.17\00:36:46.50 The Bible reference I'd like to give to you is Hebrews 9:27. 00:36:46.53\00:36:50.71 And by the way, what Ryan alluded to this, 00:36:50.74\00:36:53.38 I think, on a couple of questions. 00:36:53.41\00:36:55.28 Ryan alluded to this, how we die is not up to us. 00:36:55.31\00:36:59.38 That's the unfortunate thing. 00:36:59.41\00:37:00.98 You know, we had Cindy, 00:37:01.02\00:37:04.29 one of the nurses at our church. 00:37:04.32\00:37:06.45 She said that we're going to die one of three ways. 00:37:06.49\00:37:09.49 We're gonna die of old age, 00:37:09.52\00:37:11.13 we're gonna die of an accident 00:37:11.16\00:37:13.40 or we're going to die of a disease. 00:37:13.43\00:37:15.23 We don't get a choice which one is going to be. 00:37:15.26\00:37:17.40 Some people die in fires, 00:37:17.43\00:37:18.77 some people die from smoke inhalation, 00:37:18.80\00:37:20.34 some people die in car accidents, 00:37:20.37\00:37:21.70 some people die of a disease, 00:37:21.74\00:37:24.07 some people die in plane crashes 00:37:24.11\00:37:25.67 and they are incinerated as Ryan talked about. 00:37:25.71\00:37:28.98 And Sodom Gomorrah is just simply an example in Scripture 00:37:29.01\00:37:31.38 where people in Sodom and Gomorrah 00:37:31.41\00:37:33.01 were destroyed by fire. 00:37:33.05\00:37:35.28 But that was simply the first death, Hebrews 9:27, 00:37:35.32\00:37:39.85 "And it and as it is appointed for men 00:37:39.89\00:37:45.19 to die once, but after this the judgment." 00:37:45.23\00:37:50.70 Okay, now the judgment is the second death. 00:37:50.73\00:37:53.87 Go to Revelation Chapter 20, and look at that with me. 00:37:53.90\00:37:57.84 Revelation 20:14-15. 00:37:57.87\00:38:01.78 All right. 00:38:01.81\00:38:03.14 Here's what the Bible says. 00:38:03.18\00:38:04.51 And I'll start with verse 13. 00:38:04.55\00:38:06.11 Well, actually, verse 12, "And I saw the dead, 00:38:06.15\00:38:08.82 small and great, standing before God, 00:38:08.85\00:38:10.89 and the books were opened. 00:38:10.92\00:38:12.42 And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. 00:38:12.45\00:38:15.26 And the dead were judged according to their works, 00:38:15.29\00:38:17.89 by the things which were written 00:38:17.93\00:38:19.26 in the books." 00:38:19.29\00:38:20.63 The first death people not judged 00:38:20.66\00:38:22.00 according to their works. 00:38:22.03\00:38:23.37 Verse 13, "And the sea gave up the dead who were in them, 00:38:23.40\00:38:25.57 and Death and Hades were delivered up the dead 00:38:25.60\00:38:28.07 who were in them. 00:38:28.10\00:38:29.44 And they were judged, each one according to his works." 00:38:29.47\00:38:31.77 That's what Hebrews 9:27 says after that the judgment. 00:38:31.81\00:38:35.01 Verse 14, "Then Death and Hades 00:38:35.04\00:38:37.08 were cast into the lake of fire. 00:38:37.11\00:38:39.28 This is the second death." 00:38:39.31\00:38:41.48 So after the judgment and their verdict is concerned, 00:38:41.52\00:38:45.79 then comes the punitive side of the judgment. 00:38:45.82\00:38:48.09 That's the second death for the wicked. 00:38:48.12\00:38:50.23 That's simply that. Amen. 00:38:50.26\00:38:52.99 "Shelley, if Melchizedek is king of Salem, 00:38:53.03\00:38:57.30 which is king of peace and Christ is Prince of Peace. 00:38:57.33\00:39:01.54 And if Melchizedek is without father, 00:39:01.57\00:39:03.77 without mother, without descent, 00:39:03.81\00:39:06.01 having neither beginning of days, 00:39:06.04\00:39:07.54 nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God 00:39:07.58\00:39:11.55 abideth a priest continually, 00:39:11.58\00:39:13.62 if he is not Christ, who is he?" 00:39:13.65\00:39:16.62 Melchizedek is not Christ. 00:39:16.65\00:39:18.65 He's introduced in Genesis 14 00:39:18.69\00:39:20.72 and then he is not mentioned again 00:39:20.76\00:39:23.49 till we get to the Book of Hebrews. 00:39:23.53\00:39:25.49 In Hebrews 7:1-3 and, Miz, your question's excellent. 00:39:25.53\00:39:30.30 But Hebrews 7, it's talking about Melchizedek, 00:39:30.33\00:39:34.24 who is both king of Salem, 00:39:34.27\00:39:36.40 which is another name for Jerusalem. 00:39:36.44\00:39:39.17 He was also the priest of the Most High God. 00:39:39.21\00:39:41.91 He's the only man who ever held both offices king 00:39:41.94\00:39:44.81 and priest until both positions 00:39:44.85\00:39:47.75 were held by the person of Jesus Christ. 00:39:47.78\00:39:50.35 His name translated, did mean king of righteousness, 00:39:50.39\00:39:53.36 king of peace. 00:39:53.39\00:39:54.72 But look at verse 3, "Without father, 00:39:54.76\00:39:56.29 without mother, without genealogy, 00:39:56.32\00:39:58.69 having neither beginning of days nor end of life, 00:39:58.73\00:40:01.40 but made like the Son of God, 00:40:01.43\00:40:05.00 he remains a priest forever." 00:40:05.03\00:40:07.17 In the ancient Syriac Peshitta, 00:40:07.20\00:40:11.07 it gives a more accurate translation here 00:40:11.11\00:40:14.28 of that Greek phrase and it says, 00:40:14.31\00:40:18.01 "Whose father and mother 00:40:18.05\00:40:20.62 are not written in genealogies." 00:40:20.65\00:40:25.15 Melchizedek did have a father and a mother, 00:40:25.19\00:40:28.96 he was a human being 00:40:28.99\00:40:31.26 but his ancestry was not recorded 00:40:31.29\00:40:35.03 because it didn't matter to his priesthood. 00:40:35.06\00:40:36.97 It wasn't like he was of a Levitical priesthood 00:40:37.00\00:40:40.20 where ancestry had to be proven, 00:40:40.24\00:40:42.70 he was of the same. 00:40:42.74\00:40:45.77 In Hebrews 5:6, it says 00:40:45.81\00:40:47.81 that Jesus was like the order of Melchizedek, 00:40:47.84\00:40:53.18 as opposed to being Levitical in nature. 00:40:53.21\00:40:57.62 But we know that Hebrews tells us that Jesus' 00:40:57.65\00:40:59.92 priesthood was superior to the Levitical priesthood. 00:40:59.95\00:41:05.03 And Hebrews 7:15 explains 00:41:05.06\00:41:07.93 that He was a priest in the likeness 00:41:07.96\00:41:12.33 of Melchizedek. 00:41:12.37\00:41:14.27 Melchizedek resembled Jesus, 00:41:14.30\00:41:18.27 which implies he was different from Jesus. 00:41:18.31\00:41:22.18 He was not a heavenly being. 00:41:22.21\00:41:24.65 If he was without parentage, without beginning or end, 00:41:24.68\00:41:29.05 he'd be God himself. 00:41:29.08\00:41:30.69 And there would have been no need 00:41:30.72\00:41:32.55 for another priest to come. 00:41:32.59\00:41:34.62 But Jesus did come. 00:41:34.66\00:41:35.99 He's not a successor to Melchizedek. 00:41:36.02\00:41:38.69 His priesthood was just similar to his. 00:41:38.73\00:41:41.90 Excellent explanation. 00:41:41.93\00:41:43.93 Pastor Day, this is going 00:41:43.97\00:41:45.30 to be your three minute question here. 00:41:45.33\00:41:46.67 All right. 00:41:46.70\00:41:48.04 "As I was reading Matthew Chapter 24, 00:41:48.07\00:41:49.80 about the abomination of desolation, 00:41:49.84\00:41:51.81 I came across something. 00:41:51.84\00:41:53.64 All my life, I was taught that the abomination 00:41:53.68\00:41:56.21 of desolation was going to stand in the Holy Place. 00:41:56.24\00:41:59.61 But it actually says when you see the abomination 00:41:59.65\00:42:02.25 of desolation stand in the Holy Place, 00:42:02.28\00:42:05.99 I always heard it to read when you see the abomination 00:42:06.02\00:42:09.52 of desolation standing in the Holy Place, 00:42:09.56\00:42:13.03 this changes things completely for the interpretation. 00:42:13.06\00:42:16.67 It is actually telling believers 00:42:16.70\00:42:18.17 to stand in the Holy Place in the spiritual sanctuary. 00:42:18.20\00:42:21.74 Am I correct in this understanding?" 00:42:21.77\00:42:23.87 This is from Richard out of New Jersey. 00:42:23.91\00:42:25.87 Okay. Yeah, I appreciate this question, Richard. 00:42:25.91\00:42:27.98 And I'm just going to be direct about it. 00:42:28.01\00:42:30.08 I do believe you're stretching a little bit, 00:42:30.11\00:42:32.31 because the text does say right there in Matthew Chapter 24, 00:42:32.35\00:42:35.65 which you are referencing here, 00:42:35.68\00:42:37.29 when you shall see the abomination of desolation 00:42:37.32\00:42:39.79 standing in the Holy Place. 00:42:39.82\00:42:41.79 In this case, I'm going to give it to you straight. 00:42:41.82\00:42:43.86 I wish I had 10 minutes to talk about this, but I don't. 00:42:43.89\00:42:46.49 I believe that there are three very clear phases 00:42:46.53\00:42:49.36 to this abomination of desolation in the sense 00:42:49.40\00:42:52.53 that it's fulfilled on three different levels. 00:42:52.57\00:42:54.50 We see it here in Matthew 24, 00:42:54.54\00:42:56.60 which is actually in reference 00:42:56.64\00:42:57.97 to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, 00:42:58.01\00:43:00.71 there's an abomination of desolation there. 00:43:00.74\00:43:02.98 Of course, I believe, according to Daniel Chapter 11 00:43:03.01\00:43:05.65 and Daniel Chapter 12, 00:43:05.68\00:43:07.02 in reference to that 1,290 days, 00:43:07.05\00:43:09.55 the abomination of desolation is mentioned there as well, 00:43:09.58\00:43:12.15 that's going to be fulfilled 00:43:12.19\00:43:13.52 somewhere around the year 508 AD 00:43:13.56\00:43:15.56 with the bringing about of the priesthood 00:43:15.59\00:43:17.03 of the Catholic Church. 00:43:17.06\00:43:18.39 That's another question. 00:43:18.43\00:43:19.76 Of course, the third phase, I believe, 00:43:19.79\00:43:21.13 is right there in that harlot of Revelation Chapter 17, 00:43:21.16\00:43:23.50 where it talks about the abominations 00:43:23.53\00:43:25.27 and the filthiness of her fornication. 00:43:25.30\00:43:26.94 She also has abominations 00:43:26.97\00:43:28.30 that will bring about her desolation. 00:43:28.34\00:43:30.37 So that's three different phases, 00:43:30.41\00:43:32.04 I believe we see this played out in 00:43:32.07\00:43:33.78 but pertaining to your particular question here. 00:43:33.81\00:43:36.54 This is directly in Matthew 24, 00:43:36.58\00:43:38.48 referencing the abomination of desolation 00:43:38.51\00:43:41.28 standing in the Holy Place, 00:43:41.32\00:43:44.09 you don't really get the fullness 00:43:44.12\00:43:45.95 of this until you get over to Luke 21 00:43:45.99\00:43:47.62 and read the equivalent passage of this 00:43:47.66\00:43:49.62 because all of the same words, 00:43:49.66\00:43:51.03 all of the same descriptions are used there 00:43:51.06\00:43:53.46 that you see in Matthew 24, 00:43:53.50\00:43:55.30 pertaining to the 70 AD destruction of Jerusalem 00:43:55.33\00:43:58.53 but when you get to Luke 21:20-24, 00:43:58.57\00:44:02.84 notice what the Bible says here, it says, 00:44:02.87\00:44:04.57 "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies 00:44:04.61\00:44:08.74 then know that its desolation is near." 00:44:08.78\00:44:11.98 And if you go on and read through this, 00:44:12.01\00:44:13.35 "Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, 00:44:13.38\00:44:14.92 and let those who are in the midst not depart, 00:44:14.95\00:44:17.09 and let those who are in the country enter her 00:44:17.12\00:44:19.32 or let not those who were not in the country enter her. 00:44:19.35\00:44:20.76 For these are the days of vengeance, 00:44:20.79\00:44:22.42 that all these things that are written may be fulfilled. 00:44:22.46\00:44:24.73 But woe unto those who are pregnant." 00:44:24.76\00:44:26.29 And it goes on to describe exactly the events 00:44:26.33\00:44:29.10 that took place in 70 AD 00:44:29.13\00:44:31.07 after a seven long year siege by the Roman armies. 00:44:31.10\00:44:34.70 In this case, it's interesting because when you go back 00:44:34.74\00:44:37.17 to Daniel 9:27, 00:44:37.21\00:44:39.21 which is what this is referencing, 00:44:39.24\00:44:40.98 it actually says there in Daniel 7:20, 00:44:41.01\00:44:43.98 excuse me, 9:27, 00:44:44.01\00:44:46.15 "On the wing of abomination 00:44:46.18\00:44:48.05 shall be the one who makes desolate." 00:44:48.08\00:44:50.02 Referring to Titus and his Roman armies coming 00:44:50.05\00:44:52.15 where they put their Roman pagan standards 00:44:52.19\00:44:55.32 in the ground outside of Jerusalem. 00:44:55.36\00:44:57.23 Their symbol, of course, 00:44:57.26\00:44:58.59 was the eagle on the wings of abomination. 00:44:58.63\00:45:00.96 Their pagan god of the eagle representing 00:45:01.00\00:45:03.57 the sun, they put it outside of Jerusalem, 00:45:03.60\00:45:06.84 setting their standards in the ground, 00:45:06.87\00:45:08.50 they surrounded Jerusalem, 00:45:08.54\00:45:09.90 that's exactly what we're seeing here 00:45:09.94\00:45:12.14 played out in Matthew 24, 00:45:12.17\00:45:13.88 in the equivalent passage of Luke 21. 00:45:13.91\00:45:16.54 When you shall see the army surrounding Jerusalem, 00:45:16.58\00:45:19.71 then know that her desolation is near. 00:45:19.75\00:45:21.92 Even Jesus, you know, He told them, 00:45:21.95\00:45:23.82 He foretold this in just the previous chapter, 00:45:23.85\00:45:26.42 Matthew 23, when He said, "Oh, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, 00:45:26.45\00:45:28.82 how often I've wanted to gather you as a hen 00:45:28.86\00:45:30.86 gathers her chicks on her wings but you were not willing." 00:45:30.89\00:45:34.36 And then He goes on to say, 00:45:34.40\00:45:35.90 "See your houses left to you desolate." 00:45:35.93\00:45:39.07 So in this case, 00:45:39.10\00:45:40.44 standing in the Holy Place is reference to Titus 00:45:40.47\00:45:42.97 and the Roman armies outside of Jerusalem in the 70 AD 00:45:43.00\00:45:46.17 destruction of Jerusalem. 00:45:46.21\00:45:47.74 Wow. 00:45:47.78\00:45:49.11 Yeah, that was a lot to say in three minutes. 00:45:49.14\00:45:51.21 And it could take a 10 minute answer for sure. 00:45:51.25\00:45:54.55 Easy. 00:45:54.58\00:45:55.92 Pastor Lomacang, 00:45:55.95\00:45:57.42 this is going to be your three minute question. 00:45:57.45\00:45:59.45 "My question is found in 1 Corinthians 11:5-6, 00:45:59.49\00:46:04.33 Pastor Lomacang, can you please explain those verses?" 00:46:04.36\00:46:07.86 Well, we find two words in 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 00:46:07.90\00:46:12.60 is exactly what is being talked about. 00:46:12.63\00:46:14.87 The covering is, I think, the focal point of the passage, 00:46:14.90\00:46:19.04 because it covers two different topics. 00:46:19.07\00:46:21.88 But I think what the person 00:46:21.91\00:46:23.24 when they point to verse 5 and 6 00:46:23.28\00:46:24.65 is specifically about the woman covering her head. 00:46:24.68\00:46:27.25 Now we find in verse 1, Paul talks about a tradition. 00:46:27.28\00:46:31.25 But when we get to verse 16, he talks about a custom, 00:46:31.29\00:46:34.09 what is the difference? 00:46:34.12\00:46:35.46 A tradition is something handed down from generation 00:46:35.49\00:46:38.39 to generation where it starts, 00:46:38.43\00:46:40.13 is determined by that particular culture. 00:46:40.16\00:46:42.90 But a custom is according to a practice. 00:46:42.93\00:46:46.17 For example, Luke 4:16, Jesus went into the synagogue 00:46:46.20\00:46:49.20 and as His custom was and then the disciples 00:46:49.24\00:46:52.27 as their custom was they went 00:46:52.31\00:46:54.38 and kept the Sabbath from week to week. 00:46:54.41\00:46:56.38 Custom is something that could be supported 00:46:56.41\00:46:58.31 by a scriptural observance. 00:46:58.35\00:47:00.35 But a tradition starts based on their culture. 00:47:00.38\00:47:02.98 In this particular passage, there was a cultural tradition 00:47:03.02\00:47:07.32 that was passed down from generation to generation. 00:47:07.36\00:47:10.33 And this was common among the Jews. 00:47:10.36\00:47:12.06 The Jews had a difficult time 00:47:12.09\00:47:13.70 when the disciples did not follow traditions. 00:47:13.73\00:47:15.73 As a matter of fact, Mark 7:5, they said, 00:47:15.76\00:47:18.03 "Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition 00:47:18.07\00:47:20.64 of the elders?" 00:47:20.67\00:47:22.00 So when the Christian church was being established, 00:47:22.04\00:47:23.81 many of these traditions that were practiced 00:47:23.84\00:47:25.61 among the Jewish contingency, 00:47:25.64\00:47:27.41 they were trying to force them on the Gentiles. 00:47:27.44\00:47:29.84 And Paul the Apostle was saying, 00:47:29.88\00:47:31.21 "Okay, let's talk about this tradition, 00:47:31.25\00:47:32.91 the woman's head being covered 00:47:32.95\00:47:34.45 or the man's head not being covered." 00:47:34.48\00:47:36.18 And the focal point of this entire passage is verse 3. 00:47:36.22\00:47:40.72 He says this, 00:47:40.76\00:47:42.09 "But if you want to know 00:47:42.12\00:47:43.59 that the head of every man is Christ, 00:47:43.63\00:47:47.43 the head of woman is man 00:47:47.46\00:47:50.27 and the head of Christ is God." 00:47:50.30\00:47:52.40 So the woman's covered by her husband's authority, 00:47:52.43\00:47:56.67 the church is covered by Christ's authority 00:47:56.71\00:47:59.81 and Christ is covered by God's authority, 00:47:59.84\00:48:01.98 the covering is already there. 00:48:02.01\00:48:03.55 He is showing the order of structure and authority 00:48:03.58\00:48:06.41 as it relates to any kind of custom. 00:48:06.45\00:48:09.52 But they continue saying, "Well, 00:48:09.55\00:48:11.02 shouldn't the woman cover her head? 00:48:11.05\00:48:12.75 And if it's not covered, she should shave her head." 00:48:12.79\00:48:14.99 But then they said, "But it is a shame for a woman 00:48:15.02\00:48:17.26 to shave her head." 00:48:17.29\00:48:18.63 So what are we contending over here 00:48:18.66\00:48:20.00 and it continues to go forward. 00:48:20.03\00:48:21.36 And Paul settles the issue in verse 16. 00:48:21.40\00:48:24.47 I had somebody approached me about this issue once, 00:48:24.50\00:48:27.17 you know, they got caught up in some side cult. 00:48:27.20\00:48:30.64 The way you can tell the difference between a cult 00:48:30.67\00:48:32.51 and a Christian religion, 00:48:32.54\00:48:33.98 is they lock you to salvation by works. 00:48:34.01\00:48:37.58 When they start demanding works of you long dresses, 00:48:37.61\00:48:39.75 cover your head, wear a scarf, wear 17th century clothing, 00:48:39.78\00:48:43.59 it's a cult, 00:48:43.62\00:48:44.95 because there's nothing you can do to enhance your salvation. 00:48:44.99\00:48:47.49 Amen. 00:48:47.52\00:48:48.86 Paul makes it very clear in verse 16 00:48:48.89\00:48:50.89 as he addresses the whole issue of covering or not covering. 00:48:50.93\00:48:53.36 He says, "But if anyone seems to be contentious," 00:48:53.40\00:48:57.53 listen to this, 00:48:57.57\00:48:58.90 "we have no such custom nor does the churches of God." 00:48:58.93\00:49:03.30 Amen. 00:49:03.34\00:49:04.67 So there is no custom to cover your head or not to cover. 00:49:04.71\00:49:06.78 If you want to do that, 00:49:06.81\00:49:08.14 the Lord is not going to make it something, say we're lost. 00:49:08.18\00:49:10.31 If you want to do that as a practice, you can do that. 00:49:10.35\00:49:12.58 But there is no such requirement 00:49:12.61\00:49:14.12 or custom according to the Church of God. 00:49:14.15\00:49:16.72 Amen. Amen. 00:49:16.75\00:49:19.05 Shelley, we're gonna come to you 00:49:19.09\00:49:20.42 with this extra question here 00:49:20.46\00:49:21.79 because we're picking it up from your first question. 00:49:21.82\00:49:25.59 "Pastor is preaching that getting cancer and dying 00:49:25.63\00:49:28.23 or being poor, this is the part that we need to answer, 00:49:28.26\00:49:31.00 is not God's will for any of us 00:49:31.03\00:49:33.13 and that Christians shouldn't get sick or die early, 00:49:33.17\00:49:35.97 because it's our will and we can control it. 00:49:36.00\00:49:38.07 Can you help me to find in the Bible 00:49:38.11\00:49:39.91 that we have the authority to override God's plan?" 00:49:39.94\00:49:42.98 Okay, so we've already addressed 00:49:43.01\00:49:44.68 getting sick or dying with cancer. 00:49:44.71\00:49:46.72 Let's talk about being poor. 00:49:46.75\00:49:48.85 If you're poor because of bad choices, laziness, 00:49:48.88\00:49:52.12 failure to budget, refusal of good counsel, guess what? 00:49:52.15\00:49:56.09 You have willed that poorness on you and it's not God's will. 00:49:56.12\00:50:00.73 That's true. 00:50:00.76\00:50:02.10 There's a lot of Proverbs 00:50:02.13\00:50:04.30 that address these causes of poverty. 00:50:04.33\00:50:06.77 But being poor is not always our will. 00:50:06.80\00:50:09.24 And it doesn't mean that God disapproves of us. 00:50:09.27\00:50:12.61 There's many examples of poor people in Scripture 00:50:12.64\00:50:17.18 that are blessed beyond measure. 00:50:17.21\00:50:19.21 Just think of the widow and her mite. 00:50:19.25\00:50:21.22 Jesus in Matthew 8:20, 00:50:21.25\00:50:23.55 He talks about I had no place to lay My head. 00:50:23.59\00:50:27.92 The disciples abandoned what they had, 00:50:27.96\00:50:30.06 2 Corinthians 8:9, "Though the Lord was rich, 00:50:30.09\00:50:32.73 He became poor for our sake." 00:50:32.76\00:50:34.66 Matthew 26:11, Jesus said, 00:50:34.70\00:50:37.37 "The poor you have with you always." 00:50:37.40\00:50:40.90 But one of the most convincing scriptures to me 00:50:40.94\00:50:43.61 is the great famine struck Jerusalem. 00:50:43.64\00:50:47.14 It was overpopulated and the believers became poor 00:50:47.18\00:50:52.91 and destitute and Paul took up a collection. 00:50:52.95\00:50:55.88 Romans 15:26, 00:50:55.92\00:50:58.39 he speaks of other believers and he says, 00:50:58.42\00:51:01.06 "Please, to make a certain contribution for the poor 00:51:01.09\00:51:05.19 among the saints who are in Jerusalem." 00:51:05.23\00:51:08.53 Oh, there's so much but here's the bottom line. 00:51:08.56\00:51:11.50 God does use wealth for His glory, 00:51:11.53\00:51:14.60 sometimes what people like Solomon, 00:51:14.64\00:51:17.64 but many times in the Bible, 00:51:17.67\00:51:20.08 wealth is spoken of in a negative fashion. 00:51:20.11\00:51:23.85 Jesus said in Matthew 13:22, 00:51:23.88\00:51:26.85 that the deceitfulness of riches 00:51:26.88\00:51:29.05 can choke the word from your heart. 00:51:29.08\00:51:31.52 Mark 10, 25. 00:51:31.55\00:51:33.82 It's easier to go through a rich man to I mean, 00:51:33.86\00:51:37.79 a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man 00:51:37.83\00:51:40.90 to enter heaven. 00:51:40.93\00:51:42.26 Wow. Is poorness a sin? 00:51:42.30\00:51:44.57 No. Wow, thank you, Shelley. 00:51:44.60\00:51:46.77 Thank you for that answer. 00:51:46.80\00:51:48.14 We're going to be right back after we take a short break. 00:51:48.17\00:51:53.74 If you're enjoying our 3ABN Bible Q and A, 00:51:53.78\00:51:56.88 then tell your friends, 00:51:56.91\00:51:58.55 each Monday we'll bring you a fresh program, 00:51:58.58\00:52:01.28 answering the Bible questions you send us, 00:52:01.32\00:52:03.59 using God's Holy Word to shed light on those texts 00:52:03.62\00:52:06.89 that seem difficult to understand. 00:52:06.92\00:52:09.16 To have your questions answered on a future program, 00:52:09.19\00:52:11.89 just email them to us at BibleQA@3abn.tv 00:52:11.93\00:52:17.13 That's BibleQA@3abn.tv 00:52:17.17\00:52:20.87 You may also text your questions to 618-228-3975. 00:52:20.90\00:52:26.54 That's 618-228-3975. 00:52:26.57\00:52:30.28 Be sure to include your name and where you live, 00:52:30.31\00:52:32.61 and then watch 3ABN Bible Q and A 00:52:32.65\00:52:35.25 for answers from God's Word. 00:52:35.28\00:52:37.35
