Amen. 00:03:38.95\00:03:40.28 Shelley, I'm going to go to you first 00:03:40.32\00:03:42.08 with the first question. 00:03:42.12\00:03:44.19 "My question is about 2 Samuel 11:4. 00:03:44.25\00:03:48.69 How can Bathsheba be purified from her uncleanness 00:03:48.72\00:03:52.53 if she slept with David?" 00:03:52.56\00:03:54.83 This is from Tanya 00:03:54.83\00:03:56.16 out of Greensboro, North Carolina. 00:03:56.20\00:03:57.53 Okay, Tanya. 00:03:57.60\00:03:58.93 Let me tell a little of the backstory here. 00:03:58.97\00:04:01.14 2 Samuel 11, before this, God had selected David as king 00:04:01.17\00:04:06.37 because he said David was a man after His own heart. 00:04:06.41\00:04:10.31 And, boy, David had honors after honors 00:04:10.35\00:04:12.85 and successes after successes 00:04:12.88\00:04:15.18 right up till this time in 2 Samuel Chapter 11. 00:04:15.22\00:04:19.02 What happened? 00:04:19.05\00:04:20.42 He sent his men off to the battlefield. 00:04:20.46\00:04:23.69 He decided he was going to stay at ease in Jerusalem. 00:04:23.73\00:04:27.86 And so one night he's out... 00:04:27.93\00:04:29.23 Or at late afternoon, he's walking on his roof 00:04:29.26\00:04:32.13 and he glances over 00:04:32.17\00:04:33.50 and he sees a beautiful woman bathing. 00:04:33.57\00:04:36.54 And instead of turning his lustful eyes away, 00:04:36.57\00:04:40.64 he feasts on Bathsheba's naked body. 00:04:40.71\00:04:44.48 And he knew she was the wife of one of his noble soldiers. 00:04:44.51\00:04:49.98 But he stooped to a low that he had of degradation 00:04:50.02\00:04:55.72 and shame he never had before. 00:04:55.76\00:04:57.69 And here's what happened. 00:04:57.76\00:04:59.09 2 Samuel 11:4, 00:04:59.13\00:05:01.86 "Then David sent messengers and took her. 00:05:01.90\00:05:05.23 The messengers took Bathsheba and she came to him. 00:05:05.27\00:05:10.21 And he lay with her, 00:05:10.24\00:05:12.27 for she was cleansed from her impurity. 00:05:12.31\00:05:17.98 And she returned to her house." 00:05:18.01\00:05:21.05 She was cleansed before he laid with her. 00:05:21.08\00:05:24.12 What is it talking about? 00:05:24.15\00:05:25.49 In Leviticus 15:19-30, 00:05:25.52\00:05:29.19 it talks about the ceremonial ritual cleansing 00:05:29.22\00:05:33.33 that a woman went through after her menstrual cycle. 00:05:33.36\00:05:37.27 I think the reason 00:05:37.30\00:05:38.63 this is added in the story here, 00:05:38.67\00:05:40.54 she had been through... 00:05:40.57\00:05:42.07 Bathsheba had been through this ritual, 00:05:42.10\00:05:44.84 but this proves to us it wasn't Uriah's baby. 00:05:44.87\00:05:49.81 We know that when she laid with David, 00:05:49.84\00:05:52.61 it was his child. 00:05:52.65\00:05:55.22 And, you know, the rest of the story is this. 00:05:55.25\00:05:58.99 So your answer to your question, 00:05:59.02\00:06:01.19 she was purified before. 00:06:01.22\00:06:02.96 But the rest of the story is David repented, 00:06:02.99\00:06:05.76 God forgave him. 00:06:05.79\00:06:07.23 But the consequences were horrible. 00:06:07.23\00:06:09.56 God said that the sword shall never depart 00:06:09.60\00:06:12.40 from your house 00:06:12.43\00:06:13.77 and David's house had a lot of misery scandals. 00:06:13.84\00:06:17.21 It was awful. 00:06:17.24\00:06:19.71 Amen. 00:06:19.74\00:06:21.11 Thank God for His forgiveness, though. 00:06:21.18\00:06:22.71 Amen. Amen. 00:06:22.74\00:06:24.08 Thank God for His forgiveness. 00:06:24.15\00:06:25.48 Pastor Day, we're going to come to you next. 00:06:25.51\00:06:26.92 All right. All right. 00:06:26.95\00:06:28.42 "If we all come from Adam and Eve, 00:06:28.45\00:06:30.99 how do we get all the races in the world?" 00:06:31.02\00:06:35.19 You know, that's a really good question. 00:06:35.22\00:06:37.13 And I'll just be honest with you. 00:06:37.16\00:06:38.49 The Bible does not explicitly tell us 00:06:38.53\00:06:40.26 how we get all of these different skin tones 00:06:40.30\00:06:42.60 and the different races and whatnot, 00:06:42.63\00:06:44.43 but there are a few texts 00:06:44.47\00:06:45.83 that we can pull together to try to make sense of this. 00:06:45.87\00:06:48.90 Obviously, people try to use this question to try to, 00:06:48.94\00:06:51.27 you know, question the validity of Scripture. 00:06:51.31\00:06:53.11 You know, if all of us came from Adam and Eve... 00:06:53.14\00:06:55.11 In this case, we know we all came 00:06:55.14\00:06:56.48 from the family of Noah, right? 00:06:56.51\00:06:57.85 So where do all these different skin tones come from? 00:06:57.91\00:06:59.48 Well, the Bible must not be true, right? 00:06:59.51\00:07:01.58 Not necessarily. 00:07:01.62\00:07:02.95 When we get to Genesis Chapter 11, 00:07:02.98\00:07:04.32 which is not too long after the flood 00:07:04.39\00:07:06.52 and after Noah's time, 00:07:06.55\00:07:08.62 you get there to the Tower of Babel. 00:07:08.66\00:07:10.09 And we see there that they built this tower 00:07:10.13\00:07:11.66 to reach into the heavens. 00:07:11.69\00:07:13.03 Basically, it was Nimrod's project 00:07:13.06\00:07:15.03 shaking the fist at God, 00:07:15.06\00:07:16.40 because he did not like God for what He had done, 00:07:16.43\00:07:18.70 you know, with the flood and destroying, 00:07:18.73\00:07:20.30 you know, all of the people. 00:07:20.34\00:07:21.67 And so as a way to, you know, worship their false pagan gods 00:07:21.70\00:07:24.21 and also try to get one over on God. 00:07:24.27\00:07:26.04 But yet we know 00:07:26.07\00:07:27.44 that the Bible says in Genesis 11, 00:07:27.48\00:07:29.18 and I'm going to start reading in verse 7 here. 00:07:29.21\00:07:30.55 It says, "Come." 00:07:30.61\00:07:31.95 This is God speaking, the Godhead. 00:07:31.98\00:07:33.48 And it says here, "Come, let Us go down there 00:07:33.52\00:07:35.75 and confuse their language, 00:07:35.78\00:07:37.25 that they must not understand one another's speech." 00:07:37.29\00:07:39.59 So the Lord scattered them abroad 00:07:39.62\00:07:41.86 from there over the face of all the earth, 00:07:41.89\00:07:43.99 and they ceased building the city. 00:07:44.03\00:07:46.19 And therefore, after these different tribe, 00:07:46.23\00:07:49.00 after these different people 00:07:49.03\00:07:50.37 scattered all over to the different regions 00:07:50.40\00:07:51.87 of the earth, 00:07:51.90\00:07:53.23 they would have broken up into different tribes, 00:07:53.27\00:07:55.24 different clans. 00:07:55.27\00:07:56.71 You know, different... 00:07:56.74\00:07:58.07 And scattered into different nations 00:07:58.11\00:07:59.44 and broken open up amongst themselves. 00:07:59.47\00:08:00.98 And, of course, you know, this brought about 00:08:01.01\00:08:03.21 the intermarrying and intermingling, 00:08:03.24\00:08:04.98 which brought about different genetic forms 00:08:05.01\00:08:07.98 and different genetic traits 00:08:08.02\00:08:10.99 that became more predominant than others 00:08:11.05\00:08:12.69 in certain regions and certain ethnic groups 00:08:12.72\00:08:14.72 that we find today spring from that. 00:08:14.76\00:08:17.39 Now is there an explicit text that tells us all of this? 00:08:17.43\00:08:20.16 We have to kind of look back at the history. 00:08:20.20\00:08:22.13 We have to study it in accordance 00:08:22.16\00:08:23.50 with what the Scripture says. 00:08:23.53\00:08:25.23 How these different skin tones came about? 00:08:25.27\00:08:27.37 You know, there's again, 00:08:27.40\00:08:28.74 not an explicit text that tells us, 00:08:28.77\00:08:30.11 but you know, I believe 00:08:30.14\00:08:31.47 the Bible makes it clear that God... 00:08:31.51\00:08:32.84 And if you read this in Psalm 139:13, 00:08:32.87\00:08:35.28 God knits us in our womb, in our mother's womb. 00:08:35.31\00:08:38.18 And we see traits and things 00:08:38.21\00:08:39.55 that babies are born with today and it's like, 00:08:39.58\00:08:41.05 how in the world he didn't get that from his mom. 00:08:41.08\00:08:42.58 He didn't get that from his dad. 00:08:42.62\00:08:43.95 She didn't get that from, you know, their parents. 00:08:44.02\00:08:45.45 But nonetheless, 00:08:45.49\00:08:46.82 God knits us together in a womb. 00:08:46.86\00:08:48.19 And there's going to be one day we're going to get to heaven 00:08:48.22\00:08:49.96 and God is going to give us the answer to this question. 00:08:49.99\00:08:52.73 But I believe it springs from the nations 00:08:52.76\00:08:55.06 being scattered to these different regions. 00:08:55.10\00:08:57.10 And therefore, we get the different 00:08:57.17\00:08:58.50 predominant traits, 00:08:58.53\00:08:59.87 genetic traits, so forth and so on. 00:08:59.90\00:09:01.37 Yeah. 00:09:01.40\00:09:02.74 What a day that's going to be when we get to heaven 00:09:02.77\00:09:04.14 and we get to ask all of these questions. 00:09:04.17\00:09:06.37 We'll take our Bible Q and A up there. 00:09:06.41\00:09:08.54 Absolutely. Absolutely. 00:09:08.58\00:09:09.91 I love it. 00:09:09.94\00:09:11.28 Pastor Rafferty... 00:09:11.31\00:09:12.65 I like that. 00:09:12.68\00:09:14.05 "Kindly indicate 00:09:14.08\00:09:15.42 the biblical counsel given to assist 00:09:15.45\00:09:17.55 Seventh-day Adventist Christians 00:09:17.62\00:09:19.42 in selecting a spouse. 00:09:19.45\00:09:21.49 Also, please advice if a Christian has to consider 00:09:21.52\00:09:25.09 horoscope or Zodiac sign compatibility 00:09:25.13\00:09:28.33 of his or her potential spouse, 00:09:28.36\00:09:32.67 and if this is part of the biblical guidance 00:09:32.70\00:09:34.74 given by God." 00:09:34.77\00:09:36.10 This is from Brother Hale. 00:09:36.14\00:09:38.04 All right, Brother Hale. 00:09:38.11\00:09:39.44 Well, if we go to the Bible, 00:09:39.47\00:09:40.81 we're going to find in Genesis Chapter 2 00:09:40.84\00:09:42.41 that God says 00:09:42.44\00:09:44.15 that it is not good for man to be alone. 00:09:44.18\00:09:46.95 I will make a helpmeet for him. 00:09:46.98\00:09:49.35 And, of course, later on in that section, 00:09:49.38\00:09:51.42 we realize that God put Adam to sleep, 00:09:51.49\00:09:52.99 took a rib out of his side, 00:09:53.02\00:09:54.46 took that rib right out of his side and then, 00:09:54.49\00:09:56.09 of course, gave him his helpmeet. 00:09:56.12\00:09:57.93 So if you're a believer in the all powerful, 00:09:57.96\00:10:00.00 all knowing God, 00:10:00.03\00:10:01.93 you don't need to go to a horoscope. 00:10:01.96\00:10:03.30 You don't need to go to a Zodiac sign, you know? 00:10:03.33\00:10:05.37 We... 00:10:05.40\00:10:06.74 God doesn't want us to be alone, 00:10:06.77\00:10:08.10 so God is going to provide for us. 00:10:08.14\00:10:09.77 It's not a horoscope that provides for us, 00:10:09.80\00:10:11.37 it's not luck that provides for us, 00:10:11.41\00:10:12.74 it's not chance that provides for us, 00:10:12.77\00:10:14.11 it's God that provides for us according to Genesis. 00:10:14.14\00:10:16.61 And then what we need to realize is, 00:10:16.64\00:10:19.18 the Bible says in Proverbs 19:14, 00:10:19.21\00:10:22.62 "A prudent wife is from the Lord." 00:10:22.65\00:10:24.55 So the first step... 00:10:24.59\00:10:26.35 You wanted an outline, Brother Hale. 00:10:26.39\00:10:27.82 The first step in finding a wife 00:10:27.86\00:10:29.32 is to go to the Lord, 00:10:29.36\00:10:30.69 'cause a prudent wife is from the Lord. 00:10:30.73\00:10:32.26 So the wife is going to be with the Lord, 00:10:32.29\00:10:34.13 you need to go to the Lord. 00:10:34.20\00:10:35.50 You guys both connect to the Lord. 00:10:35.53\00:10:36.87 Give your heart to the Lord 00:10:36.90\00:10:38.53 and he's going to take you and put you together. 00:10:38.57\00:10:41.64 Number two, the Bible says, "Ask and it shall be given. 00:10:41.67\00:10:44.84 You seek and you shall find. 00:10:44.87\00:10:46.21 Knock and the door shall be open to you." 00:10:46.24\00:10:47.58 So in Matthew 7:7, we need to pray. 00:10:47.61\00:10:49.84 We need to pray and ask God. 00:10:49.88\00:10:51.65 That's what I did when I was looking for a wife, 00:10:51.68\00:10:53.55 and God gave me my wife, Rise. 00:10:53.58\00:10:55.52 We've been married now for 32 years. 00:10:55.55\00:10:57.55 We spent a lot of time praying for God's leading, 00:10:57.62\00:11:00.49 surrendering our hearts to the Lord. 00:11:00.52\00:11:02.06 And then I didn't just wait around 00:11:02.09\00:11:03.59 for a wife to pop up. 00:11:03.63\00:11:04.99 You know, I didn't just go to sleep 00:11:05.03\00:11:06.36 and wake up like Adam and expect, 00:11:06.39\00:11:07.73 oh, there's a wife going to be there. 00:11:07.76\00:11:09.06 I prepared myself to be able to take care of a wife. 00:11:09.10\00:11:12.63 I made sure I had an education. 00:11:12.67\00:11:14.00 I made sure I had practical skills, 00:11:14.07\00:11:15.40 vocational skills. 00:11:15.44\00:11:16.77 I was able to have a job, to work, to support a wife. 00:11:16.81\00:11:20.18 And that's really important. 00:11:20.21\00:11:21.54 And, of course, I also got counsel, you know? 00:11:21.61\00:11:23.71 It says in a multitude of counselors, 00:11:23.75\00:11:25.31 there is wisdom. 00:11:25.35\00:11:26.68 And if you don't get counsel, you fall in love. 00:11:26.72\00:11:29.45 And we don't want to fall into love, 00:11:29.48\00:11:30.82 we want to step into love. 00:11:30.85\00:11:32.19 So it's very important to get counsel, 00:11:32.22\00:11:33.56 to get preparation, to go to the Lord to pray, 00:11:33.59\00:11:37.66 and let God lead you and guide you and He will. 00:11:37.69\00:11:41.63 Wow. 00:11:41.66\00:11:43.00 I like that. 00:11:43.03\00:11:44.37 We don't want to fall in love, we want to step into love. 00:11:44.40\00:11:47.24 You were listening. 00:11:47.27\00:11:48.60 Yeah, I'm taking notes. 00:11:48.64\00:11:49.97 All right. 00:11:50.01\00:11:51.51 Maybe you're Brother Hale. 00:11:51.54\00:11:52.94 What, what, what. 00:11:52.97\00:11:54.31 Well, you never know. You never know. 00:11:54.38\00:11:55.91 All right. All right. 00:11:55.94\00:11:58.31 Shelley, you're going to have a little bit longer 00:11:58.35\00:12:00.55 to answer this question. 00:12:00.58\00:12:02.82 "Did the martyrs that died suffer? 00:12:02.85\00:12:06.09 I ask this because some were singing and smiling 00:12:06.12\00:12:09.19 as they were dying." 00:12:09.22\00:12:10.56 This is from Joel out of South Carolina. 00:12:10.59\00:12:12.39 Oh, Joel. 00:12:12.43\00:12:13.76 I've thought this... 00:12:13.80\00:12:15.10 I've asked this question myself. 00:12:15.13\00:12:16.87 Martyr in the Greek means to witness. 00:12:16.90\00:12:19.07 And the Christian use of the term martyr 00:12:19.10\00:12:21.14 came to be used of people 00:12:21.17\00:12:24.54 who witnessed their faith for the Lord. 00:12:24.61\00:12:26.71 I mean, of their faith for the Lord, 00:12:26.74\00:12:28.44 and then they would be put to death because of that. 00:12:28.48\00:12:31.15 And we know the first spirit filled deacon 00:12:31.18\00:12:35.52 of the church, Stephen, 00:12:35.55\00:12:37.92 was one of the first seven and he was martyred. 00:12:37.99\00:12:40.52 He was the first Christian martyr. 00:12:40.56\00:12:43.49 And as he's being stoned to death in Acts 7:16, 00:12:43.53\00:12:47.23 it's brought dying breath. 00:12:47.30\00:12:49.36 He just says, "Lord, don't charge this sin to them." 00:12:49.40\00:12:54.30 Boy, that's an amazing thought. 00:12:54.34\00:12:57.47 In AD 98 to 305, 00:12:57.51\00:12:59.87 thousands upon thousands were slain. 00:12:59.91\00:13:03.28 They were martyred by Rome. 00:13:03.31\00:13:05.05 And then we know that in the inquisition 00:13:05.08\00:13:08.12 of the Middle Ages, the Dark Ages, 00:13:08.15\00:13:11.32 we know that the mother church killed millions, 00:13:11.39\00:13:16.16 because they would not... 00:13:16.19\00:13:19.06 They killed them for the crime of heresy 00:13:19.09\00:13:24.43 because they would not agree 00:13:24.47\00:13:26.70 with the traditions of papalism, 00:13:26.74\00:13:29.50 but these people wanted to stay faithful to Christ 00:13:29.54\00:13:33.14 in the Word. 00:13:33.17\00:13:34.54 So it's interesting 00:13:34.58\00:13:35.91 because the persecution of these martyrs, 00:13:35.94\00:13:39.41 the effect on the church was that their blood 00:13:39.45\00:13:41.58 was like the seed for the church. 00:13:41.62\00:13:43.82 All these martyrs became overcomers and conquerors. 00:13:43.85\00:13:47.82 In Revelation 12:11, it says, "They overcame him, 00:13:47.86\00:13:52.76 the accuser of the brethren. 00:13:52.79\00:13:54.56 They overcame the devil by the blood of the Lamb 00:13:54.56\00:13:57.53 and by the word of their testimony, 00:13:57.60\00:14:01.17 and they did not love their lives unto the death." 00:14:01.24\00:14:06.24 So he's saying they overcame for these three reasons. 00:14:06.27\00:14:09.98 They've got the blood of the Lamb 00:14:10.01\00:14:11.51 that justifies them before the Lord, 00:14:11.55\00:14:14.38 they've got the word of their testimony, 00:14:14.42\00:14:17.15 they're faithful witnesses to God's working act, 00:14:17.19\00:14:20.19 and they'd rather die than deny Jesus 00:14:20.22\00:14:23.73 'cause they didn't love their lives 00:14:23.76\00:14:25.53 to the death. 00:14:25.56\00:14:26.90 Now literary tradition does hold 00:14:26.93\00:14:32.33 that many of the martyrs sang 00:14:32.37\00:14:34.60 as they were burned at the stake. 00:14:34.67\00:14:36.24 I remember John Huss, 00:14:36.27\00:14:37.64 reading the story of him being in his prison, 00:14:37.67\00:14:40.21 trying to take a candle, 00:14:40.24\00:14:41.81 and he knew he was going to be burned at the stake. 00:14:41.84\00:14:43.65 And he tried to put his hand over it 00:14:43.68\00:14:45.41 and he just couldn't. 00:14:45.45\00:14:47.12 And so he was like, oh. 00:14:47.15\00:14:48.68 But then they sang, he sang. 00:14:48.72\00:14:50.42 Did they experience pain? 00:14:50.45\00:14:54.69 Did Jesus experience pain? 00:14:54.72\00:14:57.33 You know, you'd have to say 00:14:57.36\00:14:59.36 that they didn't have a natural response to pain. 00:14:59.39\00:15:04.53 So here's what I believe. 00:15:04.60\00:15:06.53 In 1 Kings 8:59, Solomon is speaking of God. 00:15:06.57\00:15:12.04 And he says that God maintains the cause of his servant 00:15:12.07\00:15:17.98 and the cause of His people Israel, 00:15:18.01\00:15:20.65 as each day requires. 00:15:20.68\00:15:23.05 So when Jesus said to Paul, 00:15:23.08\00:15:26.49 "My grace is sufficient for you." 00:15:26.52\00:15:28.12 When Paul was in prison 00:15:28.19\00:15:30.16 and he's singing and praising the Lord. 00:15:30.19\00:15:32.46 So I believe that God will give us 00:15:32.49\00:15:35.56 grace to meet need. 00:15:35.60\00:15:38.70 That's right. Absolutely. 00:15:38.73\00:15:40.07 Amen. 00:15:40.10\00:15:41.44 Thank you for that answer, Shelley. 00:15:41.47\00:15:42.80 Pastor Day, we're going to go to you on this question. 00:15:42.84\00:15:45.71 It's like a three minute question for you, 00:15:45.74\00:15:47.61 so you have a little bit longer. 00:15:47.68\00:15:49.01 It's like a longer question. 00:15:49.04\00:15:50.38 That's right. That's right. 00:15:50.41\00:15:51.75 "Can you explain Roman 14:2, 00:15:51.78\00:15:54.52 "Only the weak eat vegetables." 00:15:54.55\00:15:56.85 All right. All right. 00:15:56.89\00:15:58.22 So this is one of those questions that, again, 00:15:58.29\00:16:00.59 even many vegetarians, they read this and they think, 00:16:00.62\00:16:02.92 "What are you saying, Paul? 00:16:02.96\00:16:04.29 Are you calling me weak? Are you saying I'm weak?" 00:16:04.33\00:16:05.73 That's not technically what Paul is saying here. 00:16:05.76\00:16:08.50 To understand this verse 2, 00:16:08.53\00:16:10.23 we first need to back up to verse 1. 00:16:10.27\00:16:11.60 So let's read verse 1 and go on to verse 2 and 3. 00:16:11.67\00:16:14.10 So verse 1 says, "Receive..." 00:16:14.14\00:16:15.80 This is Romans 14:1, 00:16:15.84\00:16:17.41 "Receive one who is weak in the faith." 00:16:17.44\00:16:19.97 Okay, that's the key right there. 00:16:20.01\00:16:21.38 "One who is weak in the faith, 00:16:21.41\00:16:22.74 but not to dispute over doubtful things. 00:16:22.78\00:16:25.58 For one believes he may eat all things, 00:16:25.61\00:16:27.52 but he who is weak only eats vegetables." 00:16:27.55\00:16:30.45 And then verse 3, "Let him who eats despise him 00:16:30.49\00:16:33.05 who does not eat." 00:16:33.09\00:16:34.46 Not despise him. 00:16:34.49\00:16:35.82 Excuse me, "Not despise him who does not eat. 00:16:35.86\00:16:38.53 And let not him who does not eat judge him 00:16:38.56\00:16:41.16 who eats." 00:16:41.20\00:16:42.53 It's intricate 'cause it goes on to say, 00:16:42.56\00:16:43.90 "For God has received him." 00:16:43.93\00:16:45.27 This is important to understand, 00:16:45.30\00:16:46.63 this whole chapter. 00:16:46.67\00:16:48.00 Many people get confused on Romans 14. 00:16:48.04\00:16:49.37 And I'm sure we'll get many, many more questions 00:16:49.40\00:16:51.07 about Romans 14. 00:16:51.11\00:16:52.61 But this whole chapter actually has nothing to do 00:16:52.64\00:16:56.24 really with the preference of diet and foods. 00:16:56.28\00:16:59.35 This is not the central issue or thing 00:16:59.38\00:17:01.25 that Paul is addressing. 00:17:01.28\00:17:02.68 This whole entire chapter 00:17:02.72\00:17:04.05 actually is him writing as a part of his letter 00:17:04.09\00:17:05.79 to address some of the issues 00:17:05.82\00:17:07.16 that was going on in the church of Rome, 00:17:07.19\00:17:08.99 much like what's happening in the church of Corinth, 00:17:09.02\00:17:11.63 because in this chapter, 00:17:11.66\00:17:13.06 it comes up over and over again words like, 00:17:13.09\00:17:15.20 you know, not to dispute, not to judge. 00:17:15.26\00:17:18.57 You know, not to show contempt against your brother, 00:17:18.63\00:17:20.90 you know, give account to yourself not to judge, 00:17:20.94\00:17:22.84 not causing a... 00:17:22.87\00:17:24.21 You know, being a stumbling block 00:17:24.24\00:17:25.67 for your brother. 00:17:25.71\00:17:27.04 You know, make peace, edify one another, 00:17:27.08\00:17:28.64 do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. 00:17:28.68\00:17:31.21 These types of words 00:17:31.25\00:17:32.58 keep coming up over, and over, and over. 00:17:32.61\00:17:33.95 Your brother stumbles and is offended 00:17:33.98\00:17:35.52 or is made weak. 00:17:35.55\00:17:36.89 What Paul is addressing is the issue 00:17:36.92\00:17:38.25 that today we have here in every church. 00:17:38.29\00:17:40.09 And this still is true today. 00:17:40.12\00:17:41.82 In every church, there's those who are spiritually strong. 00:17:41.86\00:17:45.03 And by the way, Paul identifies himself 00:17:45.09\00:17:47.23 as the spiritually strong in Romans 15:1, 00:17:47.30\00:17:49.60 the very next chapter. 00:17:49.63\00:17:51.00 And so these weak are not weak in the sense that they're, 00:17:51.03\00:17:53.84 you know, horrible Christians or that they're not, 00:17:53.87\00:17:56.10 you know, real Christians. 00:17:56.14\00:17:57.47 It's just, they are... 00:17:57.51\00:17:58.84 They're not as spiritually mature 00:17:58.87\00:18:00.28 as some of the other brethren. 00:18:00.31\00:18:01.68 And so that's what Paul is addressing here. 00:18:01.71\00:18:03.11 He's saying, "Look, 00:18:03.14\00:18:04.48 some of you aren't spiritually mature brethren," 00:18:04.51\00:18:05.85 allowing these contentions 00:18:05.88\00:18:07.42 and these divisional issues that are not really salvation. 00:18:07.45\00:18:10.22 It's not really big. 00:18:10.25\00:18:11.59 And some of these other weaker Christians, 00:18:11.65\00:18:13.79 these less spiritually mature brothers and sisters 00:18:13.82\00:18:16.32 are coming in as new believers into the church. 00:18:16.36\00:18:18.49 Maybe some of them had some, 00:18:18.53\00:18:20.00 you know, different aesthetic beliefs, 00:18:20.03\00:18:21.53 aestheticism, you know, preferences, 00:18:21.56\00:18:23.70 certain days that they ate 00:18:23.73\00:18:25.10 certain things here or certain things 00:18:25.13\00:18:26.47 they didn't eat over here. 00:18:26.50\00:18:27.84 And it was causing questions and divisions among the church. 00:18:27.87\00:18:29.94 So Paul is writing to the church and he's saying, 00:18:29.97\00:18:32.37 "Look, stop allowing these issues to divide, 00:18:32.41\00:18:35.51 you spiritually mature brothers. 00:18:35.54\00:18:36.88 They're strong. 00:18:36.91\00:18:38.28 You're going to end up causing the weak, 00:18:38.31\00:18:39.71 the spiritually immature, the less mature to stumble. 00:18:39.75\00:18:42.82 You're going to become a stumbling block for them, 00:18:42.85\00:18:44.25 and you're going to end up 00:18:44.29\00:18:45.62 pushing these brothers and sisters 00:18:45.65\00:18:46.99 out of the faith." 00:18:47.02\00:18:48.39 We kind of get an overall idea of this 00:18:48.42\00:18:49.86 when we get to Romans 15:1-6. 00:18:49.89\00:18:52.29 Notice what the Bible says. 00:18:52.33\00:18:53.66 This is the very next chapter. 00:18:53.70\00:18:55.00 And this is the response to the previous chapter. 00:18:55.03\00:18:57.07 He says, "We then who are strong 00:18:57.10\00:18:58.73 ought to bear the scruples of the weak, 00:18:58.77\00:19:01.00 and not to please ourselves. 00:19:01.04\00:19:02.44 Let each of us 00:19:02.47\00:19:03.81 please his neighbor for his good, 00:19:03.84\00:19:05.87 leading to edification. 00:19:05.91\00:19:07.41 For even Christ did not please himself. 00:19:07.44\00:19:09.24 But as it is written, 'The reproaches of those 00:19:09.28\00:19:12.18 who reproached You fell on Me.' 00:19:12.21\00:19:14.42 For whatever things were written down 00:19:14.45\00:19:16.18 were written in our learning, 00:19:16.22\00:19:17.92 that we through our patience and comfort and the scriptures 00:19:17.95\00:19:21.06 might have hope. 00:19:21.09\00:19:22.69 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be 00:19:22.72\00:19:26.29 like-minded towards one another, 00:19:26.33\00:19:28.33 according to Christ Jesus, 00:19:28.40\00:19:29.73 that you may notice with one mind and one mouth 00:19:29.76\00:19:32.53 glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." 00:19:32.57\00:19:36.27 We know he's not calling vegetarians weak. 00:19:36.30\00:19:38.31 Otherwise, that would make Daniel, 00:19:38.34\00:19:39.81 Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 00:19:39.84\00:19:41.91 you know, weak Christians, right? 00:19:41.98\00:19:43.31 Or secondhand Christians. 00:19:43.35\00:19:44.68 That's not the issue he's dealing with. 00:19:44.71\00:19:46.05 He's simply writing to address the issues 00:19:46.08\00:19:47.75 that was dividing the new brothers and sisters 00:19:47.78\00:19:50.75 coming into the faith 00:19:50.79\00:19:52.12 from those who had been in the church for a while. 00:19:52.19\00:19:53.52 He's saying, "Look, don't let these issues 00:19:53.56\00:19:54.96 divide you. 00:19:54.99\00:19:56.32 Come together, edify one another." 00:19:56.36\00:19:58.16 Amen. 00:19:58.23\00:19:59.56 Thank you for that answer, Pastor Day. 00:19:59.59\00:20:01.46 Pastor Rafferty, we're going to come to you on this one. 00:20:01.50\00:20:04.03 How do we study the Bible, understand it, 00:20:04.07\00:20:06.77 and connect scriptures 00:20:06.80\00:20:08.40 from different books of the Bible? 00:20:08.44\00:20:11.11 I know Googling is not ideal, 00:20:11.17\00:20:13.71 but I often Google to understand passages 00:20:13.74\00:20:16.28 and see other scriptures that explain the passage. 00:20:16.31\00:20:20.48 I have a simple New King James Version Bible. 00:20:20.52\00:20:23.59 It's not a study Bible 00:20:23.62\00:20:24.95 nor does it contain cross reference verses." 00:20:24.99\00:20:26.92 This is from Addie out of Washington. 00:20:26.96\00:20:28.62 All right, Addie. 00:20:28.66\00:20:29.99 Well, that is such a good question. 00:20:30.03\00:20:31.83 In fact, learning how to study the Bible changed my life. 00:20:31.89\00:20:35.13 So I just want to give you one simple thing 00:20:35.16\00:20:37.67 that you can do that will absolutely explode 00:20:37.70\00:20:40.84 the way you study the Bible. 00:20:40.87\00:20:42.20 And that is, get yourself 00:20:42.24\00:20:43.57 a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible. 00:20:43.61\00:20:47.11 You can get it on an app. 00:20:47.14\00:20:48.51 I've got it on my phone. 00:20:48.54\00:20:49.88 You know, you can just download it, 00:20:49.91\00:20:51.25 you can get one for free. 00:20:51.28\00:20:52.61 I spent a little bit of money on mine 00:20:52.65\00:20:53.98 because it had some features, 00:20:54.02\00:20:55.35 some extra features that I really wanted to have. 00:20:55.38\00:20:56.72 And a Strong's Concordance 00:20:56.75\00:20:58.15 allows you to search the Bible, to search words, 00:20:58.22\00:21:03.76 word definitions in the Greek and Hebrew, 00:21:03.79\00:21:05.96 and then to connect those word searches 00:21:05.99\00:21:08.33 with other verses where that word is used. 00:21:08.36\00:21:10.73 It lets you go deep or shallow, 00:21:10.77\00:21:12.83 depending on what you want to do. 00:21:12.87\00:21:14.20 You just... 00:21:14.24\00:21:15.57 You might be looking up a word like 00:21:15.60\00:21:16.94 we just looked in Romans Chapter 14. 00:21:16.97\00:21:18.34 And it talks about, you know, meat there and vegetables. 00:21:18.37\00:21:21.51 And you could look up that word. 00:21:21.54\00:21:22.88 What does it mean? What's the original Greek word? 00:21:22.91\00:21:25.28 Where is it used in other passages 00:21:25.31\00:21:26.65 of the Scripture? 00:21:26.68\00:21:28.02 And that will really help you 00:21:28.05\00:21:29.38 to see how that word might be used somewhere else. 00:21:29.42\00:21:31.82 And it will bring out a little bit more 00:21:31.85\00:21:33.22 of the meaning there 00:21:33.25\00:21:34.59 when you look in those other verses 00:21:34.62\00:21:35.96 and compare the two. 00:21:35.99\00:21:37.33 Of course, when you transition 00:21:37.36\00:21:38.69 from the New Testament to the Old Testament, 00:21:38.76\00:21:40.10 you're going from Greek to Hebrew 00:21:40.13\00:21:41.60 and you won't necessarily 00:21:41.63\00:21:42.96 be able to cross reference those words in the Greek. 00:21:43.00\00:21:45.57 But you can sometimes cross reference them 00:21:45.60\00:21:48.17 when it's in the English, 00:21:48.24\00:21:49.57 because sometimes they'll use basically the same words 00:21:49.60\00:21:52.71 and have the same meaning. 00:21:52.74\00:21:54.61 So and then what you want to do is you want to get yourself... 00:21:54.68\00:21:58.55 I would encourage you to get yourself 00:21:58.58\00:22:01.62 as many different versions of the Bible as you can. 00:22:01.68\00:22:04.29 You might have an app that you can download them on. 00:22:04.32\00:22:07.56 I use every Bible that I can get my hands on. 00:22:07.59\00:22:10.06 I do have a King James 00:22:10.09\00:22:11.46 as my basic foundation study Bible, 00:22:11.49\00:22:13.06 and the New King James is great. 00:22:13.09\00:22:15.76 It comes from a different set of manuscripts. 00:22:15.80\00:22:17.33 And so there's some solidity there, 00:22:17.37\00:22:19.47 you're not going to find in some of the newer versions, 00:22:19.50\00:22:21.20 but there's a lot of the newer versions 00:22:21.24\00:22:23.17 that will help you with a text 00:22:23.20\00:22:24.84 that might be difficult to understand 00:22:24.91\00:22:26.27 in the King James or the New King James. 00:22:26.31\00:22:28.28 So I encourage you to study as many Bibles as possible. 00:22:28.31\00:22:30.65 Get yourself a Strong's app 00:22:30.68\00:22:32.05 or a Strong's Concordance, a hard copy. 00:22:32.08\00:22:34.32 I've got one of those. 00:22:34.35\00:22:35.68 And if you really need help with learning how to use it, 00:22:35.72\00:22:38.52 I've got some basic 00:22:38.59\00:22:39.92 how to study the Bible 101 lessons 00:22:39.95\00:22:41.76 that I can email you or send to you. 00:22:41.79\00:22:43.12 Just get a hold of us here at 3BAN. 00:22:43.16\00:22:44.56 I'd be glad to get those to you. 00:22:44.59\00:22:45.96 Amen. 00:22:45.99\00:22:47.30 Excellent answer, Pastor Rafferty. 00:22:47.36\00:22:48.66 I just want to take a moment to tell you how to reach out, 00:22:48.70\00:22:53.44 send in your questions because you have questions, 00:22:53.47\00:22:55.97 the Bible has answers, 00:22:56.00\00:22:57.44 and we want to answer them from the Word of God 00:22:57.47\00:23:00.44 and give you those answers. 00:23:00.48\00:23:01.81 You can text those questions to (618) 228-3975, 00:23:01.84\00:23:07.42 or you may email your questions 00:23:07.45\00:23:09.02 to BibleQA@3abn.tv 00:23:09.05\00:23:13.32 And if you have Instagram, 00:23:13.36\00:23:15.19 please go to @3abn_official 00:23:15.26\00:23:20.26 and send those questions in. 00:23:20.30\00:23:23.60 Time is moving along rather rapidly. 00:23:23.63\00:23:27.20 Shelley, we're going to go to you. 00:23:27.24\00:23:28.74 "The Bible says 00:23:28.80\00:23:30.14 that I should not covet the wife of my neighbor. 00:23:30.17\00:23:32.71 And yet God through the Holy Spirit 00:23:32.74\00:23:34.58 had Mary pregnant while she was with Joseph. 00:23:34.61\00:23:37.85 Did God violate His own law? 00:23:37.88\00:23:40.28 Were there no other women? 00:23:40.32\00:23:42.08 Why Mary? 00:23:42.12\00:23:44.25 This is from Anisio in Angola. 00:23:44.29\00:23:46.29 And I just have to say Anisio, 00:23:46.32\00:23:49.02 no, God did not violate His own law. 00:23:49.06\00:23:51.16 As a matter of fact, God's Ten Commandments 00:23:51.19\00:23:53.80 reflect His character of love and holiness. 00:23:53.83\00:23:59.40 In Exodus 20:17, the tenth commandment does say, 00:23:59.43\00:24:03.54 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house 00:24:03.57\00:24:06.21 or your neighbor's wife or anything 00:24:06.24\00:24:08.48 that is your neighbors." 00:24:08.54\00:24:10.08 But you've got to understand what the word covet means. 00:24:10.11\00:24:14.98 To covet is to have a wrongful desire. 00:24:15.02\00:24:20.86 This is a selfish heart, 00:24:20.89\00:24:24.36 that it's a greedy heart, 00:24:24.39\00:24:27.60 that it's the selfish heart 00:24:27.66\00:24:30.77 motive behind the outward act, you could say. 00:24:30.80\00:24:33.94 So people who covet 00:24:33.97\00:24:36.37 have an uncontrollable longing for more. 00:24:36.40\00:24:40.28 In James 1:13, Anisio, the Bible says, James 1:13, 00:24:40.31\00:24:45.95 "God cannot be tempted by evil 00:24:45.98\00:24:49.62 nor does he tempt anyone." 00:24:49.65\00:24:52.79 God cannot covet because He cannot sin. 00:24:52.82\00:24:56.59 Love does not sin. 00:24:56.62\00:24:59.56 So when in Luke 12:15 Jesus said, 00:24:59.59\00:25:03.43 "Take heed and beware of covetousness." 00:25:03.47\00:25:07.74 He's not going to warn us and then turn around 00:25:07.77\00:25:10.17 and do something himself. 00:25:10.21\00:25:11.97 For one's life does not consist 00:25:12.04\00:25:14.68 in the abundance of the things he possesses. 00:25:14.71\00:25:18.28 So you asked why Mary? 00:25:18.31\00:25:20.92 God had to have a virgin woman 00:25:20.95\00:25:25.22 for the mother. 00:25:25.25\00:25:27.29 When he came down to be incarnated, 00:25:27.32\00:25:29.36 the virgin woman had to... 00:25:29.39\00:25:32.06 It was going to be the seed of a woman, 00:25:32.09\00:25:34.36 is where the Messiah would come from. 00:25:34.40\00:25:36.90 And the seed of God 00:25:36.93\00:25:38.27 is the Holy Spirit overshadowed her. 00:25:38.30\00:25:40.77 The reason, I believe, 00:25:40.80\00:25:42.14 that God chose a woman who was betrothed, 00:25:42.17\00:25:45.74 is because he was making it easier for her 00:25:45.81\00:25:50.15 because she would have a husband to support her 00:25:50.18\00:25:54.08 and the Holy Child. 00:25:54.12\00:25:55.85 But God does not... 00:25:55.88\00:25:57.22 I mean, to me, the incarnation is the most unselfish act 00:25:57.25\00:26:02.49 of self-sacrificing love there is. 00:26:02.52\00:26:05.36 There's nothing selfish about it. 00:26:05.39\00:26:07.93 God did not covet. 00:26:07.96\00:26:10.17 Thank you, Shelley. 00:26:10.20\00:26:11.53 Thank you. 00:26:11.57\00:26:12.90 "Pastor Day, is it biblical, Sola scriptura, 00:26:12.93\00:26:15.87 to have national flags displayed 00:26:15.90\00:26:18.41 in the house of God? 00:26:18.44\00:26:20.08 What is its significance? 00:26:20.11\00:26:21.68 What purpose does this practice serve 00:26:21.71\00:26:24.08 in the worship of the Almighty in His sanctuary? 00:26:24.11\00:26:26.98 How did this practice evolve? 00:26:27.02\00:26:29.48 Why is no one in the SDA Church 00:26:29.52\00:26:32.85 taking a stand against this practice 00:26:32.89\00:26:35.29 if it is not biblical?" 00:26:35.36\00:26:36.76 And I'm just going to add this part. 00:26:36.79\00:26:38.43 How are you going to answer this in two minutes? 00:26:38.46\00:26:41.66 Well, there's no possible way I can answer 00:26:41.70\00:26:43.03 all of those questions in two minutes. 00:26:43.06\00:26:44.40 I want to address the central, 00:26:44.43\00:26:46.00 I guess, theme among all of those questions, 00:26:46.03\00:26:47.64 which is, you know, placing flags or in this case, 00:26:47.67\00:26:50.14 national flags in God's house. 00:26:50.17\00:26:53.07 You know, the simple answer is that the Bible says 00:26:53.11\00:26:55.24 absolutely nothing about placing flags, 00:26:55.28\00:26:59.45 national flags in God's house. 00:26:59.48\00:27:02.35 And so we can't simply go to the Bible and say 00:27:02.38\00:27:04.92 that it's wrong or that it's right. 00:27:04.95\00:27:06.92 We have to go by principle, right? 00:27:06.96\00:27:08.66 Just because the Bible doesn't specifically address 00:27:08.69\00:27:11.03 it does not mean that we can't follow certain principles 00:27:11.06\00:27:13.33 as found in there. 00:27:13.36\00:27:14.66 Now let me... 00:27:14.73\00:27:16.03 Before I get straight 00:27:16.06\00:27:17.40 into the particular scripture here, let me just make mention. 00:27:17.43\00:27:18.77 You know, I know I can speak from my country's perspective 00:27:18.83\00:27:21.24 as an American citizen 00:27:21.27\00:27:22.80 and as a patriot of this nation. 00:27:22.84\00:27:24.41 I had been to churches all my life 00:27:24.44\00:27:25.81 where I've seen flags, 00:27:25.87\00:27:27.21 the American flag displayed somewhere in the church, 00:27:27.24\00:27:29.58 and I've never once myself or seen anybody else 00:27:29.61\00:27:32.61 bow down and worship that flag. 00:27:32.65\00:27:34.65 I've never seen that. 00:27:34.68\00:27:36.02 Never have I witnessed that. 00:27:36.05\00:27:38.79 You know, the truth of the matter is, 00:27:38.85\00:27:40.19 many people think that it's an issue 00:27:40.22\00:27:41.56 because they think it's somehow a violation 00:27:41.59\00:27:43.32 of maybe the first or second commandment, 00:27:43.36\00:27:45.29 where it talks about worshiping other gods, or in this case, 00:27:45.33\00:27:47.96 bowing down to graven images 00:27:48.00\00:27:49.46 and worshiping idols of some such. 00:27:49.50\00:27:51.63 But I would say that, you know, in this case, 00:27:51.70\00:27:53.74 we have to apply principle. 00:27:53.77\00:27:55.47 And the truth of the matter is, to many people, 00:27:55.50\00:27:57.01 the American flag, for example, is a symbol of freedom. 00:27:57.04\00:28:00.08 It's a symbol of the freedoms 00:28:00.11\00:28:01.64 that they have to worship in that nation. 00:28:01.68\00:28:03.91 So when I used to look at that flag, 00:28:03.95\00:28:05.31 I don't worship it as a God or as an idol. 00:28:05.35\00:28:06.82 But you know what? 00:28:06.85\00:28:08.18 When I look at that American flag, 00:28:08.22\00:28:09.55 it reminds me that I'm in a church worshiping God 00:28:09.58\00:28:11.95 because that nation allows me 00:28:11.99\00:28:14.02 and grants me the freedom to be able to do so. 00:28:14.06\00:28:16.73 And so again, I think we have to check ourselves 00:28:16.76\00:28:18.79 in that manner. 00:28:18.83\00:28:20.16 Biblically speaking, yes. 00:28:20.20\00:28:21.50 If we're worshiping it or we're idoling it 00:28:21.53\00:28:23.50 in an unhealthy spiritual state, 00:28:23.53\00:28:25.50 then absolutely we need to be careful in that case. 00:28:25.53\00:28:28.27 You know, Jesus even also goes on... 00:28:28.30\00:28:29.70 Just to be balanced here, 00:28:29.74\00:28:31.07 Jesus does talk about rendering unto Caesar 00:28:31.11\00:28:32.94 what is Caesar and unto God what is God, 00:28:32.97\00:28:34.68 making sure that we have a safe separation 00:28:34.71\00:28:37.38 of church and state in this particular situation. 00:28:37.41\00:28:41.95 But at the end of the day, my friends, 00:28:41.98\00:28:43.32 I think we have to also apply the principles 00:28:43.35\00:28:45.42 found in Romans 14, 00:28:45.45\00:28:46.79 that if it's something 00:28:46.82\00:28:48.16 that's going to cause your brother 00:28:48.19\00:28:49.52 to stumble or to be made weak... 00:28:49.56\00:28:50.89 And for instance, I'm reading Romans 14:19 here. 00:28:50.93\00:28:53.19 It says, "Let us pursue the things 00:28:53.23\00:28:54.56 which make for peace and the things 00:28:54.56\00:28:56.00 by which one may edify another." 00:28:56.03\00:28:58.47 Verse 21, it goes on to say, 00:28:58.50\00:28:59.83 "Nor do anything by which your brother stumbles 00:28:59.87\00:29:01.84 or is offended or is made weak." 00:29:01.90\00:29:03.44 And, of course, in the last few verses, 00:29:03.47\00:29:04.84 he says, "Do you have faith?" 00:29:04.87\00:29:06.21 Right? 00:29:06.24\00:29:07.58 And in the last verse, he actually goes on to say, 00:29:07.61\00:29:08.94 "Whatever is not a faith is of sin." 00:29:09.01\00:29:10.35 So if this is something that bothers you, 00:29:10.38\00:29:12.18 bring it to the attention of your pastor. 00:29:12.21\00:29:14.02 Let your community, your church 00:29:14.05\00:29:15.58 make that decision based off the conviction 00:29:15.65\00:29:17.62 that the body of people have. 00:29:17.65\00:29:19.69 But at the end of the day, 00:29:19.72\00:29:21.49 we have to go back to the principles of scripture. 00:29:21.52\00:29:23.89 The commandments are not being violated 00:29:23.93\00:29:25.69 if someone is not worshiping, 00:29:25.76\00:29:27.30 or bowing down, or idoling that image. 00:29:27.30\00:29:30.03 It does represent freedom. 00:29:30.07\00:29:31.40 It does represent, you know, 00:29:31.43\00:29:33.10 the freedoms that we have to worship in this country. 00:29:33.13\00:29:35.34 And as long as there's not any worshiping, 00:29:35.37\00:29:37.41 we should be safe. 00:29:37.44\00:29:38.81 Good answer. 00:29:38.84\00:29:40.18 Good answer. 00:29:40.21\00:29:41.54 "Pastor Rafferty, historicism has the past record 00:29:41.58\00:29:44.71 that our Savior was crucified in the week of two Sabbaths. 00:29:44.75\00:29:48.32 Jesus uses the sign of Jonah 00:29:48.35\00:29:50.29 to describe a sign of his time in the earth. 00:29:50.32\00:29:53.22 I know Jesus was not born 00:29:53.25\00:29:54.89 on the literal Christmas day of the year. 00:29:54.92\00:29:57.33 Is the Good Friday wrongfully claiming His day 00:29:57.36\00:30:00.66 on the cross, like His birthday? 00:30:00.70\00:30:02.56 It confuses those who challenged me 00:30:02.60\00:30:04.80 about the authenticity of the Word." 00:30:04.83\00:30:07.17 This comes from Reggie. 00:30:07.20\00:30:08.90 Well, Reggie, actually, you've got it right. 00:30:08.94\00:30:12.87 Good Friday, which is what the Catholics call... 00:30:12.91\00:30:14.84 I was raised Catholic. 00:30:14.88\00:30:16.21 Good Friday was the day that Christ died. 00:30:16.24\00:30:17.58 And we find that in Luke Chapter 23. 00:30:17.61\00:30:20.38 If we just want to look there in Luke Chapter 23, 00:30:20.42\00:30:22.38 we're going to start in verse 52. 00:30:22.42\00:30:26.05 "This man went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus. 00:30:26.09\00:30:28.39 And he took it down and wrapped it in linen." 00:30:28.42\00:30:30.03 Verse 53, 00:30:30.06\00:30:31.39 "Laid it in a sepulcher that was hewn in stone, 00:30:31.43\00:30:33.66 wherein never a man was laid before was laid. 00:30:33.70\00:30:36.40 And that day was the preparation, 00:30:36.43\00:30:38.03 and the Sabbath drew on." 00:30:38.07\00:30:39.40 So the preparation is Friday. 00:30:39.43\00:30:40.77 Sabbath, of course, is Saturday. 00:30:40.80\00:30:42.80 And then it goes on to say, "The women also, 00:30:42.84\00:30:45.84 which came with him from Galilee, 00:30:45.87\00:30:47.21 followed after, beheld the sepulcher, 00:30:47.24\00:30:48.71 how his body was laid. 00:30:48.74\00:30:50.08 They returned to prepare spices and ointments, 00:30:50.11\00:30:52.08 and they rested on the Sabbath day, 00:30:52.11\00:30:53.45 according to the commandment." 00:30:53.48\00:30:54.82 So the Sabbath was drawing near 00:30:54.85\00:30:56.79 when Christ was taken off the cross. 00:30:56.82\00:30:58.82 That was preparation day. That was Friday. 00:30:58.85\00:31:01.06 The Sabbath was a high Sabbath. 00:31:01.09\00:31:02.46 That means that the Passover fell or another ceremony. 00:31:02.49\00:31:07.13 Normally, it was the Passover this time 00:31:07.20\00:31:08.73 fell on that same seventh day Sabbath day. 00:31:08.76\00:31:11.10 That's what made it a high Sabbath. 00:31:11.13\00:31:12.83 And then it says in verse 1 of Chapter 24, 00:31:12.87\00:31:15.47 "Now upon the first day of the week 00:31:15.50\00:31:16.91 very early in the morning, they came to the sepulcher, 00:31:16.94\00:31:18.77 bringing spices, which they prepared 00:31:18.84\00:31:20.58 and certain others, and they found 00:31:20.61\00:31:21.94 the stone rolled away and Christ, 00:31:22.01\00:31:23.35 of course, had resurrected. 00:31:23.38\00:31:24.71 That was Sunday. 00:31:24.75\00:31:26.08 So you've got Friday that He died, 00:31:26.11\00:31:27.45 Sabbath He rested in the tomb, just like He did at creation. 00:31:27.48\00:31:29.05 You know, He finished His work in creation. 00:31:29.08\00:31:31.49 He finished His work of redemption, 00:31:31.52\00:31:33.25 rested in the tomb on Sabbath, was raised on Saturday. 00:31:33.29\00:31:35.89 Now you might ask, "Well, 00:31:35.92\00:31:37.26 I thought He was going to be in the belly 00:31:37.29\00:31:38.63 of the whale, or like in the belly 00:31:38.66\00:31:40.30 of the earth like Jonah was in the whale's belly 00:31:40.33\00:31:41.93 for three days and three nights." 00:31:42.00\00:31:43.60 That began on Thursday night. 00:31:43.63\00:31:45.90 When he was at the last supper, 00:31:45.97\00:31:47.87 Judas was getting ready to betray Him. 00:31:47.90\00:31:49.77 He went out after dipping the sop with Christ 00:31:49.80\00:31:52.71 and it was night. 00:31:52.74\00:31:54.08 And that night, Jesus went to Gethsemane, 00:31:54.11\00:31:56.21 and that's when He first started feeling 00:31:56.24\00:31:57.68 the separation from God. 00:31:57.71\00:31:59.05 He first underwent that wrath experience 00:31:59.08\00:32:02.65 of being separated from God. 00:32:02.68\00:32:04.02 In fact, He almost died in Gethsemane. 00:32:04.05\00:32:05.42 So you've got Thursday night, Friday, Friday night, 00:32:05.45\00:32:07.92 Saturday, Saturday night. 00:32:07.96\00:32:09.49 There's the three days and the three nights. 00:32:09.52\00:32:10.93 Sunday morning He resurrects. Amen. 00:32:10.96\00:32:13.33 Thank you for unpacking that. Wonderful. 00:32:13.36\00:32:15.50 "Shelley, how does someone truly develop 00:32:15.53\00:32:19.07 a continuous attitude to rejoice in the Lord always, 00:32:19.10\00:32:23.41 Philippians 4:4, 00:32:23.44\00:32:25.31 especially during difficult and challenging times? 00:32:25.34\00:32:29.48 James 1:2." 00:32:29.51\00:32:31.61 And this comes... 00:32:31.65\00:32:32.98 The question comes from June. 00:32:33.01\00:32:34.35 And I just have to say, my sister June, I really... 00:32:34.38\00:32:37.75 God's been showing me 00:32:37.79\00:32:39.12 how to do this over the last couple of years. 00:32:39.19\00:32:40.89 There's been a lot of surgeries, 00:32:40.92\00:32:43.22 a lot of physical pain. 00:32:43.26\00:32:44.89 But Philippians 4:4, let's read that and look at. 00:32:44.93\00:32:48.66 It says, "Rejoice." 00:32:48.70\00:32:50.03 Now the Greek word, rejoice, 00:32:50.07\00:32:51.93 means to be in a state of wellbeing, 00:32:51.97\00:32:55.70 to experience joy. 00:32:55.74\00:32:57.71 But look what it says, "Rejoice in the Lord always. 00:32:57.74\00:33:03.48 And again I say, rejoice." 00:33:03.51\00:33:05.65 So how do you have joy? 00:33:05.68\00:33:08.52 The source of joy is your relationship with the Lord. 00:33:08.55\00:33:13.29 And it doesn't matter. 00:33:13.32\00:33:15.06 You know, actually, tradition says that Paul wrote 00:33:15.09\00:33:17.63 this during his first imprisonment in Rome. 00:33:17.66\00:33:20.60 So here he is in prison 00:33:20.63\00:33:21.96 and he's exhorting other people, rejoice! 00:33:22.00\00:33:26.57 As a matter of fact, the keynote of the whole book 00:33:26.60\00:33:29.50 of Philippians is joy. 00:33:29.54\00:33:30.97 He mentions joy, rejoice 12 different times. 00:33:31.01\00:33:35.01 Joy is a result of being at peace with God. 00:33:35.04\00:33:38.08 Romans 5:1-2 says, 00:33:38.11\00:33:40.68 "Therefore, having been justified by faith, 00:33:40.72\00:33:42.82 we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 00:33:42.88\00:33:45.95 through whom also we have access by faith 00:33:45.99\00:33:48.36 into this grace in which we stand, 00:33:48.39\00:33:51.23 and rejoice in the glory of God." 00:33:51.26\00:33:55.13 "Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit," 00:33:55.16\00:33:57.23 Galatians 5:22. 00:33:57.27\00:34:01.00 "We can have joy, 00:34:01.04\00:34:02.64 rejoice that God's mercies are new every morning," 00:34:02.67\00:34:05.77 Lamentations 3:22-23. 00:34:05.81\00:34:09.64 Nehemiah 8:10 says, 00:34:09.68\00:34:11.15 "The joy of the Lord is our strength." 00:34:11.18\00:34:13.52 And when you think about God and what He does, 00:34:13.55\00:34:18.59 we can have joy. 00:34:18.62\00:34:20.16 Joy is not the absence of sorrow. 00:34:20.19\00:34:22.56 But even in the midst of our sorrow, 00:34:22.62\00:34:24.93 we can let joy be ushered in on the wings 00:34:24.96\00:34:28.93 of thanksgiving, 00:34:28.96\00:34:30.67 the wings of practicing God's presence. 00:34:30.70\00:34:34.50 And you can rejoice that your sins are forgiven, 00:34:34.54\00:34:37.47 rejoice that God never leaves you or forsake you, 00:34:37.51\00:34:40.28 rejoice the mission goes forward, 00:34:40.31\00:34:42.51 the gospel's being preached, 00:34:42.54\00:34:44.25 rejoice that this is not our home, 00:34:44.28\00:34:46.28 we're just passing through, 00:34:46.31\00:34:47.75 and rejoice that God has laid up 00:34:47.78\00:34:50.79 an eternal reward for you in heaven. 00:34:50.82\00:34:54.49 Amen. Praise God. 00:34:54.52\00:34:55.89 Praise God for joy. 00:34:55.92\00:34:58.43 "Pastor Day, is it wrong to play bingo, 00:34:58.46\00:35:01.13 half and half, or lottery ticket? 00:35:01.16\00:35:03.90 Where is the scripture?" 00:35:03.93\00:35:05.60 This is from someone in Illinois. 00:35:05.63\00:35:07.57 All right. That's actually a great question. 00:35:07.60\00:35:09.27 You know, I had to look up this half 00:35:09.30\00:35:10.64 and half and I wasn't able to find it. 00:35:10.67\00:35:12.01 Have anybody even heard of this half and half? 00:35:12.04\00:35:13.61 I've never heard of this game. So if it's... 00:35:13.64\00:35:15.51 Maybe it's a typo or maybe 00:35:15.54\00:35:16.88 the person has a game called half and half. 00:35:16.91\00:35:18.75 I don't know what it is, but I can address bingo. 00:35:18.78\00:35:20.92 Bingo is... 00:35:20.95\00:35:22.28 I don't think it is an issue. 00:35:22.35\00:35:23.69 I don't think it is a sin if someone plays the bingo, 00:35:23.72\00:35:26.02 because especially if you're not, 00:35:26.05\00:35:28.12 you know, gambling with it or, 00:35:28.16\00:35:29.92 you know, misusing 00:35:29.96\00:35:32.36 and abusing God's resources that He's blessed with you. 00:35:32.39\00:35:34.40 It's a simple game and many people play it, 00:35:34.46\00:35:37.00 you know, just to pass time or to have, 00:35:37.03\00:35:38.43 you know, a social interaction with other people. 00:35:38.47\00:35:41.20 But the last part of that question dealing with, 00:35:41.24\00:35:43.47 you said... 00:35:43.51\00:35:44.84 Lottery ticket. Lottery tickets, now that. 00:35:44.87\00:35:46.44 All right, so this is an issue. It's actually interesting. 00:35:46.47\00:35:49.01 I never, I've never dealt with this. 00:35:49.08\00:35:50.41 I've never had this issue, problem with gambling. 00:35:50.45\00:35:52.25 When I was doing some research on this, 00:35:52.28\00:35:53.62 it's interesting that the Bible does not explicitly address, 00:35:53.65\00:35:57.15 you know, the issue of gambling. 00:35:57.19\00:35:58.82 So in this case, just because it doesn't directly 00:35:58.89\00:36:01.69 address it does not mean that there's not 00:36:01.72\00:36:03.46 principles to build off of. 00:36:03.49\00:36:04.83 You know, the Bible also doesn't tell us 00:36:04.86\00:36:06.19 anything about smoking pot, or snorting crack, 00:36:06.26\00:36:08.16 or anything like that. 00:36:08.20\00:36:09.53 But we take the principle, 00:36:09.60\00:36:10.93 obviously, that our bodies are the temple 00:36:10.97\00:36:12.30 of the Holy Spirit and we don't want to put 00:36:12.33\00:36:13.67 anything in it that's going to damage it. 00:36:13.70\00:36:15.04 Right? We have to look at principle here. 00:36:15.07\00:36:16.50 In this case, there's a bunch of texts 00:36:16.54\00:36:18.17 that we can glean from. 00:36:18.21\00:36:19.54 I want to start with Proverbs 28:20. 00:36:19.61\00:36:21.28 It says, "A faithful man will abound with blessings, 00:36:21.31\00:36:24.31 but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished." 00:36:24.35\00:36:28.82 You know, a lot of people with gambling and issue 00:36:28.85\00:36:31.02 of lottery tickets and, 00:36:31.05\00:36:32.52 you know, putting in a little money here 00:36:32.59\00:36:33.92 so that you can somehow play the game 00:36:33.96\00:36:35.66 of chance to try to get something else. 00:36:35.69\00:36:37.46 You know, a lot of times this comes, 00:36:37.49\00:36:39.13 this turns into an addiction for some people 00:36:39.16\00:36:41.16 and it destroys families. 00:36:41.20\00:36:42.56 It destroys lives. 00:36:42.60\00:36:43.93 And so this is what this principle is talking about. 00:36:43.97\00:36:45.83 Also 1 Timothy 6:10 00:36:45.87\00:36:48.00 reminds us that the love or the desire for money, 00:36:48.04\00:36:51.01 the abundance of money is the root of all evil. 00:36:51.04\00:36:54.21 And so again, this is an issue that can turn 00:36:54.24\00:36:56.38 into something much, much greater 00:36:56.44\00:36:58.18 if not kept in check. 00:36:58.21\00:37:00.05 Hebrews 13:5 says, 00:37:00.08\00:37:01.72 "Let your conduct be without covetousness. 00:37:01.75\00:37:04.72 Be content with such things 00:37:04.75\00:37:06.39 as you have, for he himself has said, 00:37:06.42\00:37:08.32 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" 00:37:08.36\00:37:09.79 God has given you what you need. 00:37:09.86\00:37:11.43 But a lot of times in the world we live in, 00:37:11.46\00:37:12.83 we say, "We need more, we need more, 00:37:12.86\00:37:14.20 we need an abundance of more." 00:37:14.20\00:37:15.53 And it turns into a covetous heart, 00:37:15.56\00:37:17.70 wanting more, and more, and more and desiring more. 00:37:17.73\00:37:19.73 And it turns into sometimes, in this case, 00:37:19.77\00:37:22.24 playing the lottery, gambling away your resources 00:37:22.30\00:37:24.91 that leads to something horrible. 00:37:24.94\00:37:26.61 Proverbs 13:11, 00:37:26.64\00:37:27.98 "Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, 00:37:28.01\00:37:30.28 but he who gathers by labor will increase doing it." 00:37:30.31\00:37:33.98 Honestly, God, you know, He pride... 00:37:34.02\00:37:36.18 He takes pride in that, 00:37:36.22\00:37:37.99 in the sense that we work hard for what it is that we get. 00:37:38.02\00:37:41.12 You know, your treasure, the Bible says is, 00:37:41.16\00:37:42.92 you know, "Where your treasure is, 00:37:42.96\00:37:44.29 there your heart will be also." 00:37:44.33\00:37:45.69 Matthew 6:21. 00:37:45.73\00:37:47.50 And, of course, Matthew 6:24, 00:37:47.50\00:37:48.83 Jesus also says, "No man can serve two masters." 00:37:48.86\00:37:51.17 You can't serve God and mammon, 00:37:51.20\00:37:52.53 or God and money. 00:37:52.60\00:37:53.94 And so in this case, we apply these principles 00:37:53.97\00:37:55.97 and make sure that we're following 00:37:56.00\00:37:57.74 the biblical principles God gave us. 00:37:57.77\00:37:59.14 You know, the principle of tithing. 00:37:59.17\00:38:01.01 You know, giving back to God what's already His. 00:38:01.04\00:38:03.45 The money, it's not yours. It's not yours. 00:38:03.48\00:38:05.85 Your resources is not yours. It's all His. 00:38:05.91\00:38:08.45 And we want to make sure as good stewards, 00:38:08.48\00:38:10.25 that we're not just throwing this away by chance. 00:38:10.29\00:38:12.35 So gambling, playing the lottery, 00:38:12.39\00:38:14.26 stay away from it because it's God's money, 00:38:14.29\00:38:16.32 it's God's resources. 00:38:16.36\00:38:17.69 And we want to protect that and be honest 00:38:17.73\00:38:19.59 with His resources. 00:38:19.63\00:38:20.96 Amen. Amen. 00:38:20.96\00:38:22.33 Pastor Rafferty, 00:38:22.36\00:38:23.70 you will have more time for this question here. 00:38:23.73\00:38:26.23 Five minutes? Yeah. 00:38:26.30\00:38:27.64 No, not five. 00:38:27.67\00:38:29.00 We'll, subtract two from that. I tried. 00:38:29.04\00:38:31.71 There you go. Three minutes here. 00:38:31.74\00:38:33.41 "Please explain Isaiah 66:24 about dead bodies burning 00:38:33.44\00:38:39.38 after the third coming. 00:38:39.41\00:38:41.52 I thought they with Satan were destroyed alive 00:38:41.55\00:38:44.95 when they tried to gain entrance to heaven by force." 00:38:44.99\00:38:48.12 This comes from Ken. 00:38:48.16\00:38:49.52 All right, Ken, this is a really good question, 00:38:49.59\00:38:51.03 Isaiah 66:24. 00:38:51.06\00:38:53.36 It's in the context of the new heaven and the new earth. 00:38:53.40\00:38:55.56 Verse 23 says, 00:38:55.60\00:38:56.93 "'It'll come to pass that from one new moon to another, 00:38:56.97\00:38:59.20 for one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come 00:38:59.27\00:39:01.04 the worship before me,' says the Lord.'" 00:39:01.07\00:39:03.10 And in verse 22, the new heavens and the new earth. 00:39:03.14\00:39:05.34 And then in verse 24, all of a sudden, 00:39:05.37\00:39:06.74 we have this ugly picture. 00:39:06.78\00:39:08.31 "And they shall go forth and look upon the carcasses 00:39:08.34\00:39:10.35 of the men that have transgressed against Me. 00:39:10.38\00:39:12.11 For their worm shall not die, 00:39:12.15\00:39:13.92 neither shall their fire be quenched. 00:39:13.95\00:39:15.98 And they shall be an abhorrent unto all flesh." 00:39:16.05\00:39:19.12 So the answer to this question 00:39:19.15\00:39:20.49 is actually found in the context 00:39:20.52\00:39:21.86 of the Book of Isaiah. 00:39:21.89\00:39:23.22 You go back to Isaiah Chapter 28. 00:39:23.29\00:39:24.96 That's where we find a special resurrection 00:39:24.99\00:39:26.76 of those who have really been working against God 00:39:26.80\00:39:30.33 and thinking that this life is all we have, 00:39:30.37\00:39:32.23 and there's not going to be any resurrection. 00:39:32.27\00:39:33.70 And God says there's going to be a resurrection, 00:39:33.74\00:39:35.07 there's going to be a judgment. 00:39:35.10\00:39:36.54 "And you're going to be brought 00:39:36.57\00:39:37.91 forth from the grave to give an account before me," 00:39:37.94\00:39:40.81 thus says the Lord, therefore says the Lord. 00:39:40.84\00:39:42.78 Verse 16 of Isaiah 28, 00:39:42.81\00:39:45.31 "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief for a foundation stone, 00:39:45.35\00:39:50.35 a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation. 00:39:50.39\00:39:52.69 He that believes shall not make haste." 00:39:52.72\00:39:54.52 That's talking about Jesus. And that word meant... 00:39:54.56\00:39:57.03 That phrase make haste is actually talking about 00:39:57.06\00:39:59.53 being anxious or stressed, being troubled. 00:39:59.56\00:40:02.96 And then in verse 17, 00:40:03.00\00:40:04.33 "Judgment also will I lay to the line, 00:40:04.37\00:40:05.73 and righteousness to the plummet. 00:40:05.77\00:40:07.14 Hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies 00:40:07.17\00:40:09.54 and waters shall overflow the hiding place, 00:40:09.60\00:40:11.74 for your covenant with death shall be disannulled. 00:40:11.77\00:40:14.74 Your agreement with hell shall not stand 00:40:14.78\00:40:16.81 when the overflowing scourge passes through, 00:40:16.85\00:40:19.51 then shall you be trodden down from it." 00:40:19.55\00:40:20.88 In other words, God's going to have a resurrection. 00:40:20.92\00:40:22.82 Nobody is getting away 00:40:22.88\00:40:24.22 with anything in relationship to God. 00:40:24.25\00:40:26.25 We're going to reap what we sow. 00:40:26.29\00:40:27.89 And the rest of this chapter, it's really interesting. 00:40:27.92\00:40:31.76 It talks about that specific work of executive judgment. 00:40:31.79\00:40:35.76 It talks about how God is going to resurrect 00:40:35.83\00:40:37.90 all of the wicked and bring them into an account. 00:40:37.93\00:40:40.77 And in Romans Chapter 2, it talks about 00:40:40.80\00:40:42.50 how that when we reject God's goodness, 00:40:42.57\00:40:44.54 we store up wrath against the day of wrath 00:40:44.57\00:40:46.54 of the righteous revelation 00:40:46.57\00:40:47.91 of God in relationship to this day. 00:40:47.94\00:40:50.88 It also describes it as His strange work. 00:40:50.91\00:40:53.01 God does not want anyone to be destroyed. 00:40:53.08\00:40:55.62 He doesn't want anyone to be lost. 00:40:55.65\00:40:57.39 But God is a God of love. 00:40:57.42\00:40:59.32 And love is both merciful and just. 00:40:59.35\00:41:02.66 Nobody who has committed anything horrific against 00:41:02.69\00:41:05.33 any other human being is going to be let off 00:41:05.36\00:41:07.13 the hook unless they put their faith in Jesus Christ. 00:41:07.20\00:41:10.27 So we asked the question, well, 00:41:10.30\00:41:11.73 how does this relate to the question about 00:41:11.77\00:41:13.94 the thousand years? 00:41:13.97\00:41:15.30 Well, this is how it works. 00:41:15.34\00:41:16.67 When the New Jerusalem comes down 00:41:16.71\00:41:18.04 and the resurrection takes place, 00:41:18.07\00:41:19.54 we're into the post a thousand years. 00:41:19.57\00:41:22.84 We're post thousand years. 00:41:22.91\00:41:24.65 New Jerusalem is on this earth, 00:41:24.68\00:41:26.01 the wicked come around the city. 00:41:26.08\00:41:27.72 So we're in that time when we're all worshiping God. 00:41:27.75\00:41:29.48 We're in that time when from one new moon 00:41:29.55\00:41:30.89 to another, one Sabbath to another, 00:41:30.92\00:41:32.25 we're all going to worship God. 00:41:32.29\00:41:33.62 That's the timeframe we're in. 00:41:33.66\00:41:34.99 But before we get to that time, 00:41:35.02\00:41:36.39 we're going to see the executive judgment. 00:41:36.42\00:41:39.96 And it says here, and this is just one verse 00:41:40.00\00:41:41.53 I want you to look at. 00:41:41.56\00:41:42.90 It says here that in verse 19, 00:41:42.93\00:41:45.47 "From that time that it goes forth, it will take you. 00:41:45.50\00:41:47.84 For by morning by morning shall it pass over, and day... 00:41:47.87\00:41:51.67 By day and by night, 00:41:51.71\00:41:53.04 it shall be a vexation to understand the report." 00:41:53.11\00:41:55.14 In other words, the destruction of the wicked 00:41:55.18\00:41:56.88 doesn't take place in 24 hours. 00:41:56.91\00:41:59.55 It doesn't even take place in 48 hours. 00:41:59.58\00:42:01.68 It takes time. 00:42:01.72\00:42:03.08 And that's what Isaiah 66 is talking about. 00:42:03.12\00:42:05.59 In that context, 00:42:05.62\00:42:07.06 there's going to be a time, a period of time. 00:42:07.09\00:42:09.39 I don't know if it's going to be a week, 00:42:09.42\00:42:10.76 or 10 days, or a month. 00:42:10.79\00:42:12.29 I don't know how much time it's going to be. 00:42:12.33\00:42:13.70 I do know this, 00:42:13.73\00:42:15.03 Satan is going to suffer 00:42:15.06\00:42:16.40 the longest because we're going to see 00:42:16.43\00:42:17.77 the whole history. 00:42:17.80\00:42:19.17 God is going to give us a whole video of the history, 00:42:19.20\00:42:20.74 and everyone's going to see their place. 00:42:20.77\00:42:22.10 And they're going to feel that wrath, 00:42:22.14\00:42:24.27 that rejection of God's goodness because 00:42:24.31\00:42:25.81 of the decisions they've made in relationship 00:42:25.84\00:42:29.18 to their rejection of God. 00:42:29.21\00:42:30.55 It's going to be a mental vexation, 00:42:30.58\00:42:32.21 and Satan's going to suffer the longest. 00:42:32.25\00:42:34.25 But like you said, it is going to be over. 00:42:34.28\00:42:35.68 It's going to end and the wicked are going to be ashes. 00:42:35.72\00:42:37.82 They're not going to be tormented for all 00:42:37.85\00:42:39.42 eternity forever and ever. 00:42:39.49\00:42:41.06 It's a certain amount of time and then it's over. 00:42:41.09\00:42:44.29 Amen. Amen. 00:42:44.33\00:42:46.23 "Shelley Quinn, 00:42:46.26\00:42:47.60 please explain Luke 16:19-31 in light of verses 00:42:47.60\00:42:52.67 like Ecclesiastes 9:10." 00:42:52.73\00:42:55.74 This comes from Joe out of Ontario. 00:42:55.80\00:42:58.11 Uh, Joe, this is a great one. 00:42:58.14\00:43:00.88 Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, 00:43:00.91\00:43:03.48 "There is no work, or device, or knowledge, 00:43:03.51\00:43:05.95 or wisdom in the grave where you are going." 00:43:05.98\00:43:09.52 So the dead know nothing. 00:43:09.55\00:43:11.52 That's what the Bible tells us, right? 00:43:11.55\00:43:13.52 They're asleep. 00:43:13.59\00:43:14.92 But now you come to Luke 16:19-31. 00:43:14.96\00:43:18.99 This is a parable of a certain rich man 00:43:19.03\00:43:23.50 and a certain beggar named Lazarus. 00:43:23.53\00:43:26.74 This isn't Lazarus, Mary and Martha's brother. 00:43:26.77\00:43:31.67 And Luke 16 is not talking about 00:43:31.71\00:43:36.04 what happens after death. 00:43:36.08\00:43:38.61 A parable is a short teaching 00:43:38.65\00:43:42.38 to bring about some kind of a moral teaching. 00:43:42.42\00:43:46.92 And what the moral teaching... 00:43:46.96\00:43:48.92 That if we follow this closely, 00:43:48.96\00:43:50.76 Jesus is saying to the Pharisees, 00:43:50.79\00:43:54.00 "Your money won't save you." 00:43:54.03\00:43:56.63 So let's look just a little bit in Luke 15. 00:43:56.67\00:44:01.67 Jesus used consistent parable language. 00:44:01.70\00:44:04.64 Luke 15:11, 00:44:04.67\00:44:06.01 the parable of the prodigal son. 00:44:06.07\00:44:07.94 He said, "A certain man had two sons." 00:44:07.98\00:44:12.25 In Luke 16:1, 00:44:12.28\00:44:13.62 the parable of the unjust steward. 00:44:13.65\00:44:16.12 There was a certain rich man 00:44:16.18\00:44:19.55 who had a steward. 00:44:19.59\00:44:21.16 So you see this is parabolic language. 00:44:21.19\00:44:23.89 Luke 16:19-20, there was a certain rich man 00:44:23.93\00:44:29.13 and a certain beggar named Lazarus. 00:44:29.16\00:44:33.50 So what happened 00:44:33.54\00:44:35.07 just before Jesus told this Pharisee this parable? 00:44:35.10\00:44:39.74 In Luke 16:13-14, 00:44:39.77\00:44:42.24 Jesus had told the Pharisees, 00:44:42.28\00:44:43.95 "You can't serve God and money." 00:44:43.98\00:44:48.82 And the Pharisees scoffed at Him. 00:44:48.85\00:44:52.92 You know, Pharisees believed that riches showed 00:44:52.95\00:44:55.99 the blessing of God. 00:44:56.02\00:44:57.69 They also believed... 00:44:57.73\00:44:59.06 They had a common parable that they told, 00:44:59.09\00:45:03.00 that there's kind of a Hellenistic influence 00:45:03.06\00:45:06.40 that had penetrated their belief system. 00:45:06.43\00:45:09.57 And they told this parable about the rich would die 00:45:09.60\00:45:14.31 and go to the bosom of Abraham to paradise. 00:45:14.34\00:45:17.55 You find that in the Talmud. 00:45:17.58\00:45:19.78 And that the poor, 00:45:19.81\00:45:21.72 oh, they were destined to go to the other place. 00:45:21.75\00:45:24.02 But here's how Jesus turns it around on them. 00:45:24.05\00:45:28.59 He reverses the role. 00:45:28.62\00:45:30.23 And in Luke 16:19-20, 00:45:30.29\00:45:33.46 he tells the parable saying that the rich man 00:45:33.50\00:45:36.53 who did not use his resources for good reasons. 00:45:36.60\00:45:40.17 I mean, the rich man's dining sumptuously, 00:45:40.20\00:45:43.34 and this certain beggar is lying at his gates. 00:45:43.37\00:45:48.04 And he's hoping 00:45:48.08\00:45:50.18 and praying for a few crumbs from the rich man's table. 00:45:50.21\00:45:53.55 And the dogs are licking his wounds. 00:45:53.58\00:45:55.52 Oh, my goodness, these Pharisees. 00:45:55.55\00:45:57.52 This would have made this man absolutely repulsive to them, 00:45:57.55\00:46:01.86 but Jesus has the beggar up in heaven 00:46:01.89\00:46:06.96 reclining next to Abraham. 00:46:07.00\00:46:08.93 He's got the poor... 00:46:08.96\00:46:11.03 The rich man down in Hades saying, 00:46:11.07\00:46:14.67 "Oh, send me someone to touch my finger with some water, 00:46:14.70\00:46:19.41 touch my tongue with some water and cool my tongue." 00:46:19.44\00:46:22.44 And he's simply... 00:46:22.48\00:46:24.65 He's not teaching what happens after death 00:46:24.68\00:46:27.28 because Jesus in John Chapter 11 00:46:27.32\00:46:29.62 teaches that death is a sleep. 00:46:29.65\00:46:33.22 But in Luke 16, when the young man says, 00:46:33.29\00:46:37.09 "Oh, Father Abraham, 00:46:37.13\00:46:38.46 send someone to my brothers that is... 00:46:38.49\00:46:42.46 So that they will repent." 00:46:42.50\00:46:43.83 'Cause if somebody rises from the dead and they repent, 00:46:43.87\00:46:46.53 all right. 00:46:46.57\00:46:47.90 And you know what he says? Nope. 00:46:47.94\00:46:49.90 If they don't... Abraham... 00:46:49.94\00:46:52.04 Father Abraham says back to him, "If they... 00:46:52.07\00:46:54.71 They've got the Word, they don't believe Moses, 00:46:54.74\00:46:57.08 they don't believe the Word, 00:46:57.11\00:46:59.01 then nobody's going to convince them." 00:46:59.05\00:47:02.38 Amen. Thank you, Shelley. 00:47:02.42\00:47:03.89 Pastor Day, we're going to go to you. 00:47:03.92\00:47:05.59 Time is running out here. 00:47:05.62\00:47:07.29 "I have met a young woman 00:47:07.32\00:47:09.19 who states she is a card reader. 00:47:09.22\00:47:10.89 Please give scriptures 00:47:10.93\00:47:12.26 I could share and hopefully lead her away from this. 00:47:12.29\00:47:14.93 I would love to have her friendship." 00:47:14.93\00:47:16.77 This is from Judy out of Texas. Yeah. 00:47:16.80\00:47:19.17 You know, card reading is absolutely a false practice. 00:47:19.20\00:47:23.61 These people that do this, they're crooks, 00:47:23.64\00:47:25.11 they're false, they can't tell the future. 00:47:25.14\00:47:27.21 But yet they're certainly not being led by the Spirit 00:47:27.24\00:47:29.01 of God, they're led by another spirit. 00:47:29.04\00:47:31.25 And so that being said, you know, 00:47:31.28\00:47:32.61 the Bible refers to words like, you know, 00:47:32.65\00:47:34.08 practicing divination, soothsaying. 00:47:34.12\00:47:36.12 This is what these type of card readers are. 00:47:36.15\00:47:38.25 You know, conducting or communicating with mediums, 00:47:38.29\00:47:40.59 familiar spirits, sorcery. 00:47:40.62\00:47:43.06 And so in this case, you know, 00:47:43.12\00:47:44.56 when you go to these card readers and they turn over 00:47:44.59\00:47:46.13 the cards and you see the symbols 00:47:46.16\00:47:47.50 and the different images and stuff, 00:47:47.50\00:47:49.66 and then they want to try to tell you, oh, you know, 00:47:49.73\00:47:51.67 I see in your future that you're going to do... 00:47:51.70\00:47:54.40 You know, something horrible is going to happen to you 00:47:54.44\00:47:56.30 or something bad is going to happen. 00:47:56.37\00:47:57.77 Ooh, something great is going to happen in your future. 00:47:57.81\00:47:59.94 And people buy into this stuff. 00:48:00.04\00:48:01.84 And really what it is, 00:48:01.88\00:48:03.21 is it's a spiritualistic practice. 00:48:03.28\00:48:05.55 It's... And the Bible forbids it. 00:48:05.58\00:48:06.92 Let me give you some scriptures here. 00:48:06.95\00:48:08.28 Leviticus Chapter 19, this is a big one. 00:48:08.32\00:48:10.09 Leviticus 19:26 and 31. This is God speaking. 00:48:10.12\00:48:14.56 He says, "You shall not eat anything with blood, 00:48:14.59\00:48:16.32 nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying. 00:48:16.36\00:48:20.73 Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits, 00:48:20.76\00:48:24.57 nor do not seek after them to be defiled by them. 00:48:24.60\00:48:27.27 I am the Lord your God." Right? 00:48:27.30\00:48:29.77 Leviticus Chapter 20, very next chapter, 00:48:29.80\00:48:31.97 he repeats it again. 00:48:32.01\00:48:33.34 Similarly, he says, "And the person 00:48:33.38\00:48:34.71 who turns to mediums 00:48:34.74\00:48:36.08 and familiar spirits to prostitute himself 00:48:36.11\00:48:38.91 with them, I will set my face against that person 00:48:38.95\00:48:41.45 and cut him off from his people." 00:48:41.48\00:48:43.05 And then verse 27 of Luke. 00:48:43.08\00:48:44.75 Excuse me, Leviticus 27 or 20. Luke 20:27. 00:48:44.79\00:48:49.26 It says, "A man or a woman who is a medium, 00:48:49.29\00:48:51.93 or who has a familiar spirit or has a familiar spirit 00:48:51.96\00:48:55.30 shall surely be put to death." 00:48:55.33\00:48:56.70 So this is how... 00:48:56.73\00:48:58.07 This is God's attitude towards it. 00:48:58.10\00:48:59.43 He doesn't want you communicating with these people 00:48:59.47\00:49:00.87 because who are they communicating with? 00:49:00.90\00:49:02.30 Not Him. 00:49:02.34\00:49:03.71 And if they're not communicating with Him, 00:49:03.74\00:49:05.14 who are they potentially communicating with? 00:49:05.17\00:49:07.14 The devil himself or demons. 00:49:07.18\00:49:09.21 And even Revelation Chapter 21 00:49:09.24\00:49:11.11 and 22 makes it very, very clear. 00:49:11.15\00:49:14.15 In fact, it says in Revelation 22:14-15, 00:49:14.18\00:49:17.25 it says, "Blessed are those who do his commandments 00:49:17.29\00:49:18.92 that they may have a right to the tree of life 00:49:18.95\00:49:20.66 and may enter through the gates into the city." 00:49:20.69\00:49:22.56 But then verse 15 says, 00:49:22.59\00:49:23.93 "But outside that city are dogs, 00:49:23.99\00:49:26.49 and sorcerers, and sexually immoral, 00:49:26.56\00:49:29.50 and murderers, and idolaters, 00:49:29.53\00:49:31.03 and whoever loves and practices a lie." 00:49:31.07\00:49:34.34 So do not, whoever you are, 00:49:34.37\00:49:36.07 don't go to these card readers. 00:49:36.10\00:49:37.47 They practice a lie, it is sorcery, 00:49:37.51\00:49:40.04 and it's not of God. 00:49:40.11\00:49:41.44 Thank you, Pastor Day. 00:49:41.48\00:49:42.88 Pastor Rafferty, this comes to us out of Florida. 00:49:42.91\00:49:46.28 It says, "I was watching the recording 00:49:46.35\00:49:48.02 of Pastor Rafferty mark or a mask of the beast. 00:49:48.05\00:49:52.59 My question is, among all the evidence 00:49:52.62\00:49:55.39 of the mark, why is nothing mentioned 00:49:55.42\00:49:58.53 about the number of the beast, the 666." 00:49:58.56\00:50:00.80 Yeah, that's a really good question. 00:50:00.83\00:50:03.40 Who is that? Mark out of Florida? 00:50:03.47\00:50:04.97 No, it's somebody else. It's out of Florida. 00:50:05.00\00:50:06.33 Okay. That's a really good question. 00:50:06.37\00:50:08.27 And I think sometimes we just run out of time. 00:50:08.30\00:50:10.31 You know, there are a number of characteristics 00:50:10.34\00:50:13.58 of the beast power in Revelation 13. 00:50:13.61\00:50:15.68 And there's also a number of characteristics 00:50:15.71\00:50:17.71 of the beast power identified in Revelation 00:50:17.75\00:50:19.71 or Daniel Chapter 7. 00:50:19.75\00:50:21.42 In Daniel 7, it's the little horn, 00:50:21.45\00:50:22.78 in Revelation 13, it's the beast out of the sea. 00:50:22.82\00:50:25.52 And one of those characteristics 00:50:25.55\00:50:27.06 is he has the number of a man, and his number is 666, 00:50:27.09\00:50:32.13 three sixes, 666. 00:50:32.16\00:50:33.93 You know, when I was... 00:50:33.96\00:50:35.26 Before I was really a devoted Christian, 00:50:35.30\00:50:36.73 I remember thinking about the mark of the beast, 666. 00:50:36.77\00:50:39.17 And I was curious about it. I want to study Revelation. 00:50:39.20\00:50:41.27 What does this mean? What does 666... 00:50:41.30\00:50:42.77 I used to watch movies, 666, 00:50:42.80\00:50:44.21 you know, what is it? 00:50:44.24\00:50:45.57 Well, it's simply the number of a man. 00:50:45.61\00:50:46.94 And what we do in Bible prophecies, 00:50:46.98\00:50:49.21 we let the Bible kind of interpret itself. 00:50:49.24\00:50:51.88 We look at all the characteristics. 00:50:51.91\00:50:53.28 This is one of them. 00:50:53.31\00:50:54.65 And this characteristic 00:50:54.68\00:50:56.25 is basically the title of the man of sin, 00:50:56.28\00:50:59.62 which is Filii Dei. 00:50:59.65\00:51:03.73 Excuse me. Felirious Dei... 00:51:03.76\00:51:06.13 Felirious Dei... Vicarius... 00:51:06.16\00:51:08.30 Vicarius Filii Dei. There we go. 00:51:08.33\00:51:10.37 I'm going to get there one day. Yes. 00:51:10.43\00:51:12.40 And that is the title of the papal, 00:51:12.43\00:51:16.77 the Pope, the head of the papacy. 00:51:16.81\00:51:18.57 And that is one of the many characteristics of the papacy. 00:51:18.61\00:51:21.78 I'm sorry for that. 00:51:21.81\00:51:23.14 I should have had this ready in my notes here. 00:51:23.21\00:51:25.71 I have it in my notes, Vicarius Filii Dei. 00:51:25.75\00:51:28.02 And when you calculate the numerical equivalent 00:51:28.05\00:51:31.82 of that name, every letter has a numerical equivalent. 00:51:31.85\00:51:34.79 You can do it in the Roman, you can do it in the Latin, 00:51:34.82\00:51:36.99 you can do it in the Greek. 00:51:37.03\00:51:38.36 Every row... 00:51:38.39\00:51:39.73 Every numerical equivalent, each one, 00:51:39.76\00:51:42.46 and you put it all together, it comes to 666. 00:51:42.50\00:51:46.23 Now we do not place the entire interpretation 00:51:46.27\00:51:50.97 of the man of sin on this one characteristic. 00:51:51.01\00:51:53.81 This is one of many characteristics. 00:51:53.84\00:51:56.31 And so if this one characteristic 00:51:56.38\00:51:57.81 is the only one that meets up with the papacy, with the Pope, 00:51:57.85\00:52:01.98 then that's not good enough for us. 00:52:02.02\00:52:03.79 So this is just one in a number of them. 00:52:03.82\00:52:06.09 We usually emphasize all of them. 00:52:06.12\00:52:07.62 Sometimes you don't have time for this one, 00:52:07.66\00:52:09.06 sometimes you don't remember how to say the title correctly, 00:52:09.09\00:52:12.03 but this is exactly what we understand it to mean. 00:52:12.06\00:52:14.66 Amen. 00:52:14.73\00:52:16.03 Wow, excellent, excellent breakdown of that. 00:52:16.06\00:52:20.57 We are just about to go to our break here. 00:52:20.60\00:52:23.97 I want to show you 00:52:24.04\00:52:25.37 how you can send in your questions, 00:52:25.41\00:52:27.14 and we'll take a short break and we will be right back. 00:52:27.21\00:52:30.91 So don't go anywhere, stick around for more answers. 00:52:30.95\00:52:34.18 If you're enjoying our 3ABN Bible Q and A, 00:52:34.22\00:52:37.32 then tell your friends, 00:52:37.35\00:52:39.05 each Monday we'll bring you a fresh program, 00:52:39.09\00:52:41.72 answering the Bible questions you send us, 00:52:41.76\00:52:43.99 using God's Holy Word 00:52:44.06\00:52:45.49 to shed light on those texts that seem difficult 00:52:45.53\00:52:48.23 to understand. 00:52:48.26\00:52:49.60 To have your questions answered on a future program, 00:52:49.63\00:52:52.30 just email them to us at BibleQA@3abn.tv 00:52:52.33\00:52:57.51 That's BibleQA@3abn.tv 00:52:57.54\00:53:01.34 You may also text your questions 00:53:01.38\00:53:03.04 to (618) 228-3975. 00:53:03.08\00:53:07.15 That's (618) 228-3975. 00:53:07.18\00:53:10.82 Be sure to include your name 00:53:10.85\00:53:12.19 and where you live, 00:53:12.22\00:53:13.59 and then watch 3ABN 00:53:13.62\00:53:14.96 Bible Q and A for answers from God's Word. 00:53:14.99\00:53:29.97
