These... 00:02:55.47\00:02:56.81 You all are keeping us on our toes. 00:02:56.84\00:02:58.91 We just want to thank you so much for your questions. 00:02:58.94\00:03:02.48 And I'm impressed by the level of these questions. 00:03:02.51\00:03:06.58 Often it's really interesting, so we love it. 00:03:06.61\00:03:09.62 Yes, and the challenging part is you only have two minutes 00:03:09.65\00:03:12.69 to answer each question. 00:03:12.72\00:03:14.49 And you get three minutes, there's one question you get 00:03:14.52\00:03:16.96 that can be three minutes long. 00:03:17.03\00:03:18.69 So that's the challenge. 00:03:18.73\00:03:20.80 But before we dive into the Word of God 00:03:20.83\00:03:22.63 and answer these questions, let's have a word of prayer. 00:03:22.66\00:03:25.23 Pastor Day, will you pray for us? 00:03:25.27\00:03:26.60 Absolutely, let's pray. 00:03:26.63\00:03:28.57 Father in heaven, Lord, on this blessed day, Lord, 00:03:28.60\00:03:31.21 we give You glory, and we give You honor, 00:03:31.24\00:03:33.64 we praise You, Lord, because You are worthy. 00:03:33.68\00:03:35.98 And here we are on another episode of Bible Q and A, Lord, 00:03:36.01\00:03:38.68 and we just not dare go any further without asking 00:03:38.71\00:03:42.02 for the leadership and guidance of Your Holy Spirit. 00:03:42.05\00:03:44.72 Help us, Lord, to have the spiritual mind of Jesus 00:03:44.75\00:03:47.22 to be able to rightly divide your word of truth 00:03:47.26\00:03:49.39 during this time, and the answers 00:03:49.42\00:03:51.09 that we provide, Lord, may they be accurate. 00:03:51.13\00:03:53.29 May they be according to Your will and Your plan 00:03:53.33\00:03:55.93 and more than anything, Lord, 00:03:55.96\00:03:57.30 may these question and answers draw people to You. 00:03:57.33\00:04:00.74 This is a program not to just tickle our ears, Lord, 00:04:00.77\00:04:03.71 but to draw us to Jesus Christ by providing answers 00:04:03.77\00:04:07.54 into who He is, and His plan for our life. 00:04:07.58\00:04:10.45 So thank you, Lord, for this opportunity. 00:04:10.51\00:04:12.85 And we ask this in Jesus' holy name, amen. 00:04:12.88\00:04:15.08 Amen. Amen, and amen. 00:04:15.12\00:04:17.05 Jill, we're gonna go to you first, 00:04:17.09\00:04:18.72 and you have three minutes for this question. 00:04:18.75\00:04:21.12 Yay. 00:04:21.16\00:04:22.49 The question comes from Zane out of California, and it says, 00:04:22.52\00:04:25.89 "How can I study the Bible better? 00:04:25.93\00:04:27.96 Sometimes I struggle in understanding 00:04:27.96\00:04:29.86 and in many things, 00:04:29.90\00:04:32.00 but what are some biblical steps 00:04:32.03\00:04:34.40 to understanding God's Word in a greater way 00:04:34.47\00:04:38.01 that I focus and find truths correctly?" 00:04:38.04\00:04:41.61 Thank you so much, Zane, for that question. 00:04:41.64\00:04:43.68 You know me, I like lists. 00:04:43.71\00:04:45.05 So I'm gonna give you six keys to understanding 00:04:45.08\00:04:48.68 the Word of God to studying the Word of God, 00:04:48.72\00:04:50.42 the six keys are more theological, 00:04:50.45\00:04:52.35 and then we'll do a couple of practical steps at the end. 00:04:52.39\00:04:55.02 So key number one is to allow God 00:04:55.06\00:04:57.76 to open your mind and heart. 00:04:57.79\00:04:59.33 That is so very important. 00:04:59.36\00:05:01.03 I think of Acts 16:14, 00:05:01.06\00:05:04.30 "Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us." 00:05:04.33\00:05:06.53 Of course, Paul was talking about this. 00:05:06.57\00:05:08.50 "She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, 00:05:08.54\00:05:11.74 who worshipped God. 00:05:11.77\00:05:13.11 The Lord opened her heart 00:05:13.14\00:05:16.14 to heed the things spoken by Paul." 00:05:16.18\00:05:18.25 In other words, you and I could be hearing the Word of God. 00:05:18.28\00:05:20.65 We could even be reading the Word of God, but unless God 00:05:20.68\00:05:23.49 opens our hearts to understand, we won't understand. 00:05:23.52\00:05:27.69 Key number two, 00:05:27.72\00:05:29.06 pray for that divine understanding. 00:05:29.09\00:05:31.96 David the Psalmist said in Psalm 119:18, 00:05:31.99\00:05:35.36 "Open my eyes that I may see 00:05:35.40\00:05:38.10 or behold wondrous things out of Your law." 00:05:38.13\00:05:41.64 So go before God and pray for divine understanding. 00:05:41.67\00:05:45.54 Key number three, 00:05:45.57\00:05:46.91 ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. 00:05:46.98\00:05:49.51 John 16:13, "However, when He, Jesus is speaking, 00:05:49.54\00:05:53.75 when He the Spirit of truth has come, 00:05:53.82\00:05:55.85 He will guide you into all truth." 00:05:55.88\00:05:59.05 So do you want to know truth? 00:05:59.09\00:06:00.52 Do you want to understand the Word of God? 00:06:00.56\00:06:03.53 Ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. 00:06:03.56\00:06:06.29 Key number four is to understand 00:06:06.33\00:06:08.13 that Satan can cause confusion, 00:06:08.16\00:06:10.87 and he can actually block our minds 00:06:10.90\00:06:12.97 from understanding the Word of God. 00:06:13.00\00:06:15.10 We see this in 2 Corinthians 4:4-6, 00:06:15.14\00:06:19.74 "Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, 00:06:19.77\00:06:23.95 who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel 00:06:23.98\00:06:27.02 of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God 00:06:27.05\00:06:29.62 should shine on them." 00:06:29.65\00:06:31.19 So what is Paul saying here? 00:06:31.22\00:06:32.72 He's saying that Satan can literally blind people's minds, 00:06:32.75\00:06:37.03 so they do not understand truth. 00:06:37.06\00:06:40.06 This is why asking God to open your mind and heart, 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.93 praying for divine understanding, 00:06:42.96\00:06:44.67 asking for the illumination of the Holy Spirit 00:06:44.70\00:06:46.80 is so vitally important. 00:06:46.84\00:06:48.44 Number five, God revealed spiritual truths and not man. 00:06:48.47\00:06:52.21 Matthew 16:16-17, "Simon Peter answered and said, 00:06:52.24\00:06:56.28 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' 00:06:56.31\00:06:59.38 Jesus answered and said, 'Blessed are you, 00:06:59.41\00:07:01.72 Simon Bar-Jonah, 00:07:01.75\00:07:03.08 for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, 00:07:03.12\00:07:05.39 but My Father who is in heaven.'" 00:07:05.42\00:07:08.26 That means God reveals it. 00:07:08.29\00:07:10.13 Key number six, the Holy Spirit definitely speaks 00:07:10.16\00:07:13.56 through human agents. 00:07:13.60\00:07:15.50 And He conveys truth through other people. 00:07:15.53\00:07:18.47 We won't read it, but you can find 00:07:18.50\00:07:19.93 that in Acts 26:17-18. 00:07:19.97\00:07:24.67 Then some practical steps in the closing seconds I have. 00:07:24.71\00:07:28.04 Read scripture in context, always look at context. 00:07:28.08\00:07:32.41 Compare scripture with scripture. 00:07:32.45\00:07:35.15 Study to find Jesus. 00:07:35.18\00:07:36.82 When you read the Word of God, look to find Jesus. 00:07:36.85\00:07:39.89 And finally, this is just a personal preference. 00:07:39.92\00:07:42.42 I love Bible hub. 00:07:42.46\00:07:43.79 It gives you great commentary. 00:07:43.83\00:07:45.19 It gives you all the translations 00:07:45.23\00:07:46.56 of the Word of God 00:07:46.59\00:07:47.96 and you can study the Greek and Hebrew in there as well. 00:07:47.96\00:07:49.63 Amen. 00:07:49.66\00:07:51.00 Amen. 00:07:51.03\00:07:52.37 Excellent growth principles in there. 00:07:52.40\00:07:53.77 I see that. 00:07:53.80\00:07:55.14 Pastor Day, we're gonna jump over here to Sister Shelley, 00:07:55.17\00:07:58.07 because chivalry is not dead. 00:07:58.11\00:08:00.08 So we'll go to Shelley real quick. 00:08:00.11\00:08:01.64 That's right. 00:08:01.68\00:08:03.01 Shelley, you said, this comes from Natalie out of New York, 00:08:03.04\00:08:05.68 now there's a couple questions in here. 00:08:05.71\00:08:07.78 And Larry and Yvonne sent one in here, "Shelley Quinn, 00:08:07.82\00:08:10.79 you said that the angels were men but in the Bible it says 00:08:10.85\00:08:14.66 they are neither male or female. 00:08:14.72\00:08:16.76 Can you please explain? 00:08:16.79\00:08:18.53 Also we are taught that 00:08:18.56\00:08:20.13 there are angels watching over us 00:08:20.16\00:08:22.10 and our great messengers. 00:08:22.13\00:08:23.70 So my question is more clarity on what are the two types 00:08:23.73\00:08:28.00 of angels and what are their duties?" 00:08:28.07\00:08:30.54 Okay. 00:08:30.57\00:08:32.07 Well, boy, you all really scared me for a second I had, 00:08:32.11\00:08:35.48 I know what the comment was generated 00:08:35.51\00:08:37.41 from a worship hour sermon I did on Michael the Archangel, 00:08:37.48\00:08:41.45 and I had to go back and make sure 00:08:41.48\00:08:43.79 that I had not misspoke, misspoken. 00:08:43.82\00:08:47.29 Let me tell you what I did say. 00:08:47.32\00:08:50.23 I said, unlike popular images, this is a quote, 00:08:50.26\00:08:53.76 "Bible texts always identify angels as men, 00:08:53.80\00:08:58.40 never as women or children." 00:08:58.43\00:09:00.50 So the Bible doesn't comment on angels 00:09:00.54\00:09:03.67 being neither male nor female. 00:09:03.71\00:09:06.78 In the Greek the word pnevma is Spirit, pnevmata, 00:09:06.81\00:09:12.11 the Greek, it's neuter. 00:09:12.15\00:09:13.68 And the Bible says that 00:09:13.72\00:09:15.05 all angels are ministering spirits. 00:09:15.08\00:09:17.52 Well, that means neuter gender is for God as well. 00:09:17.55\00:09:20.99 God is Spirit, but we refer to God in the masculine. 00:09:21.02\00:09:24.56 In Mark 12:25, the Bible says when they raise from the dead, 00:09:24.59\00:09:29.33 and here's where you got the idea that the Bible said 00:09:29.36\00:09:31.57 they're neither male nor female. 00:09:31.60\00:09:34.14 "When they rise from the dead, 00:09:34.17\00:09:36.84 they neither marry nor given in marriage 00:09:36.87\00:09:39.57 but are like the angels in heaven." 00:09:39.61\00:09:43.01 You see God instituted marriage 00:09:43.04\00:09:46.11 for companionship and for procreation, 00:09:46.15\00:09:49.85 and marriage isn't gonna be necessary in heaven 00:09:49.88\00:09:52.92 because it's gonna be something so much more special. 00:09:52.95\00:09:56.76 But Hebrews 1:14 says, 00:09:56.79\00:09:58.23 "They're all ministering spirits, 00:09:58.26\00:10:00.26 sent forth to help those, 00:10:00.30\00:10:03.80 minister to those who are gonna inherit salvation." 00:10:03.83\00:10:06.80 So it's interesting in the Greek an angel 00:10:06.84\00:10:11.07 can is means messenger, and it can even be a man. 00:10:11.11\00:10:15.94 There's several orders of angels, 00:10:15.98\00:10:18.21 the two that are named are cherubim, 00:10:18.25\00:10:21.28 they serve at God's throne. 00:10:21.32\00:10:23.55 And then there's seraphim. 00:10:23.59\00:10:24.92 They're the only two orders of angels that are winged. 00:10:24.95\00:10:27.92 And the only two named. 00:10:27.96\00:10:29.46 Guardian angel doesn't occur in the Bible. 00:10:29.49\00:10:31.63 But Matthew 18:10 says, 00:10:31.66\00:10:34.13 "Take heed that you did not despise 00:10:34.20\00:10:36.36 one of these little ones before I say to you, 00:10:36.40\00:10:38.97 that in heaven, their angels always see the face 00:10:39.00\00:10:42.17 of my father who is in heaven." 00:10:42.20\00:10:44.07 So their angels are watching the Lord continually. 00:10:44.14\00:10:47.41 And as soon as He makes a command, 00:10:47.44\00:10:49.91 they're there to fulfill it. 00:10:49.94\00:10:51.38 Amen. 00:10:51.41\00:10:52.75 Thank you for that explanation, Shelley. 00:10:52.78\00:10:54.55 Pastor Day, we were coming to you as promised. 00:10:54.58\00:10:57.92 "If you are not a practicing Adventist in dietary 00:10:57.95\00:11:01.96 and Sabbath observance, 00:11:01.99\00:11:03.49 but you have received His Spirit, 00:11:03.53\00:11:05.99 how will you fare in knowing you are prepared to meet God?" 00:11:06.03\00:11:09.66 This is from Josephine. 00:11:09.70\00:11:11.10 Sure, absolutely. 00:11:11.13\00:11:12.47 Well, this question we could talk a lot about. 00:11:12.50\00:11:14.57 But I'm gonna give you kind of the, the general basics 00:11:14.60\00:11:17.44 of how I would respond to this. 00:11:17.47\00:11:18.84 And obviously, I think it comes down 00:11:18.87\00:11:20.91 to the person's heart 00:11:20.94\00:11:22.28 and what they know, what do they know 00:11:22.31\00:11:24.01 and what do they not know, I'm talking genuinely? 00:11:24.08\00:11:26.31 Has this person been, you know, basically, 00:11:26.35\00:11:30.02 have they come in contact with truth? 00:11:30.05\00:11:32.12 Have they been expressed truth in some kind of way? 00:11:32.15\00:11:34.69 James 4:17, gives us a beautiful principle, 00:11:34.72\00:11:38.39 "Therefore to him who knows to do good 00:11:38.43\00:11:41.03 and does it not to him, it is sin." 00:11:41.10\00:11:43.57 So if a person is aware of truth, 00:11:43.60\00:11:45.97 but yet they're not living that truth, 00:11:46.00\00:11:47.64 and I can honestly say that person is not led 00:11:47.67\00:11:50.11 and does not have the Holy Spirit, 00:11:50.14\00:11:51.51 because they have received the light of truth 00:11:51.54\00:11:53.21 and they're not following it. 00:11:53.24\00:11:54.58 Also, Romans 7:7, Paul makes the same point very clear. 00:11:54.61\00:11:58.55 He says, "What shall we say then is the law of sin?" 00:11:58.58\00:12:00.98 Certainly not. 00:12:01.02\00:12:02.42 On the contrary, I would not have 00:12:02.45\00:12:03.99 known sin except through the law, 00:12:04.02\00:12:06.29 for would not have 00:12:06.32\00:12:07.69 for I would not have known covetousness, 00:12:07.72\00:12:09.92 unless the law had said, "You shall not covet." 00:12:09.96\00:12:11.69 So again, that knowing factor, even Jesus in both John 9, 00:12:11.73\00:12:16.03 and John 15, I'm not gonna read both, 00:12:16.06\00:12:18.20 but I'll reference John 9:41, where he talks about, 00:12:18.27\00:12:21.84 you know, reference to the Pharisees here, he says, 00:12:21.87\00:12:24.71 "If you were blind, you would have no sin. 00:12:24.74\00:12:26.78 But now you say, we see, therefore, your sin remains." 00:12:26.81\00:12:30.88 So the question here is, 00:12:30.95\00:12:32.48 if they're not a practicing Adventist in dietary 00:12:32.51\00:12:34.82 and Sabbath observance, but have received His Spirit, 00:12:34.85\00:12:37.15 how will you fare knowing you are prepared to meet God? 00:12:37.19\00:12:39.69 That is, if you're living up to all the truth that you know, 00:12:39.72\00:12:42.69 if you are following God according 00:12:42.72\00:12:44.33 to what you know at that time, 00:12:44.36\00:12:46.03 then you are living genuinely in God's Spirit 00:12:46.06\00:12:48.63 according to the leading guiding power of His Spirit. 00:12:48.66\00:12:50.43 But we also have to be reminded that John Chapter 14, 00:12:50.47\00:12:53.80 as well as John Chapter 16, 00:12:53.84\00:12:55.34 reminds us that the Spirit is the Spirit of truth, 00:12:55.37\00:12:58.31 and that He leads and guides us into all truth. 00:12:58.34\00:13:01.21 And so God will show truth to you. 00:13:01.24\00:13:03.01 And when the truth comes by the power of the Spirit, 00:13:03.04\00:13:05.68 it's our job to make sure that we receive that truth. 00:13:05.71\00:13:09.48 Acts 5:32, got to get this one in there, 00:13:09.52\00:13:12.82 "And we are His witnesses of these things, 00:13:12.85\00:13:14.66 and also is the Holy Spirit 00:13:14.69\00:13:16.52 whom God has given to those who obey Him." 00:13:16.56\00:13:19.56 So just because someone may not be 00:13:19.59\00:13:21.26 a practicing Adventist we need to keep in mind, 00:13:21.30\00:13:23.77 if they know the truth about the dietary laws, 00:13:23.80\00:13:26.07 they know the truth about the Sabbath observance, 00:13:26.10\00:13:29.17 and they're not following it, then they do not have 00:13:29.20\00:13:31.47 the Spirit of God because the Bible says 00:13:31.51\00:13:32.91 God only gives it to those who, who are, who obey Him. 00:13:32.94\00:13:37.11 But if that person is following God in all that they know, 00:13:37.15\00:13:40.02 and yet they're not necessarily following those, perhaps it's 00:13:40.05\00:13:42.62 because they haven't really heard that truth just yet. 00:13:42.65\00:13:45.22 We got to be careful in how we judge people. 00:13:45.25\00:13:47.56 Yeah, very, very, very good point. 00:13:47.62\00:13:50.79 Jill, this comes from Glenn out of Texas. 00:13:50.83\00:13:53.76 "Please explain. 00:13:53.80\00:13:55.10 Many are called but few are chosen. 00:13:55.13\00:13:56.83 Please answer with text from the Bible." 00:13:56.87\00:13:59.40 Thank you so much, Glenn, the verse you're referencing 00:13:59.43\00:14:02.64 is Matthew 22:14, 00:14:02.67\00:14:04.71 "For many are called, but few are chosen." 00:14:04.77\00:14:07.18 I'm gonna give you the short answer, 00:14:07.21\00:14:08.54 and then we'll go back and look at the context. 00:14:08.58\00:14:10.15 The short answer is many are called. 00:14:10.18\00:14:11.85 The calling, the invitation that is the invitation 00:14:11.88\00:14:15.28 is extended to everyone to the wedding feast. 00:14:15.32\00:14:18.45 But what does it mean few are chosen. 00:14:18.49\00:14:20.86 The chosen are those who accept the invitation 00:14:20.92\00:14:24.19 and comply with the condition, 00:14:24.23\00:14:26.59 meaning they need to put on that wedding garment. 00:14:26.63\00:14:30.47 So in other words, we could say all are called, 00:14:30.50\00:14:32.30 all are invited, but not all choose to accept 00:14:32.33\00:14:36.84 and comply with a condition. 00:14:36.87\00:14:38.67 If you look at the context, 00:14:38.71\00:14:40.04 the parable of the wedding feast, 00:14:40.08\00:14:41.41 you can read it in Matthew 22:1-14. 00:14:41.44\00:14:44.68 You see Jesus telling several parables here 00:14:44.71\00:14:46.85 toward the end of Matthew as the conflict intensifies 00:14:46.88\00:14:50.42 between Jesus and the religious leaders. 00:14:50.45\00:14:53.25 He tells a series of parables to demonstrate 00:14:53.29\00:14:55.42 what we call the great reversal 00:14:55.46\00:14:57.76 of the expected response to the coming Messiah. 00:14:57.79\00:15:00.56 The leaders of Israel end up rejecting Him, 00:15:00.60\00:15:03.57 while the outcasts and the unacceptable 00:15:03.60\00:15:05.60 end up accepting Him. 00:15:05.63\00:15:07.80 Those who are expected to be saved will be lost. 00:15:07.87\00:15:10.41 And those who we think are untouchable or sinners, 00:15:10.44\00:15:14.18 they will be saved. 00:15:14.21\00:15:16.28 So if you look at the context, 00:15:16.31\00:15:17.88 you see the king arranging a marriage for his son, 00:15:17.91\00:15:20.22 and he extends an invitation to the wedding guests 00:15:20.25\00:15:23.39 to please come, and they all sent declines back. 00:15:23.42\00:15:25.75 In fact, some of them killed the very servants 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.59 who would send the invitation. 00:15:28.62\00:15:30.46 Then the king sends out a second invite and says, 00:15:30.49\00:15:33.06 "Go to the highways and hedges go everywhere, 00:15:33.09\00:15:35.83 everyone is invited." 00:15:35.86\00:15:38.40 And they come but one guest does not appear 00:15:38.47\00:15:41.90 with a wedding garment. 00:15:41.94\00:15:43.27 We don't have time to go into that. 00:15:43.30\00:15:45.11 But that is represented by the righteousness of Christ, 00:15:45.14\00:15:48.58 both the imputed righteousness of Christ, 00:15:48.61\00:15:51.35 which is justification, our title for heaven, 00:15:51.38\00:15:54.62 and the imparted righteousness of Christ, 00:15:54.65\00:15:58.19 which is sanctification, that is our fitness for heaven. 00:15:58.22\00:16:02.52 So the bottom line is that all are called, 00:16:02.56\00:16:05.39 all are called to accept Jesus, but not all will accept Him 00:16:05.43\00:16:09.43 nor comply with those conditions. 00:16:09.46\00:16:11.60 Amen. 00:16:11.67\00:16:13.00 Excellent answer, Jill. 00:16:13.03\00:16:14.54 Shelley, we'll come to you. 00:16:14.57\00:16:16.04 This is your three minute question here. 00:16:16.07\00:16:17.84 Okay. 00:16:17.91\00:16:19.24 "May you please explain to me why we don't enjoy our tithe, 00:16:19.27\00:16:23.14 but give it to the church?" 00:16:23.18\00:16:24.55 Okay. 00:16:24.58\00:16:25.91 I believe that you're probably looking into the Old Testament 00:16:25.95\00:16:29.45 about the ceremonial tithing that they had. 00:16:29.48\00:16:34.12 In the rabbinical teachings, they understood tithing, 00:16:34.16\00:16:37.93 the Rabbis, to refer to three different ties. 00:16:37.96\00:16:41.60 There was the Levitical tithe 00:16:41.66\00:16:43.47 to support the synagogue church, 00:16:43.50\00:16:45.83 God's work. 00:16:45.87\00:16:47.20 And then there was a tithe that was spent by the family 00:16:47.24\00:16:50.24 celebrating when they went to Jerusalem for the feast. 00:16:50.27\00:16:53.38 And there was a charity tithe. 00:16:53.41\00:16:56.38 And I've read a lot of Jews, 00:16:56.41\00:16:58.95 the Jews were tithing 20 to 30%, 00:16:58.98\00:17:02.62 most of the time, yes, we. 00:17:02.65\00:17:05.42 So it's no longer required 00:17:05.45\00:17:07.39 to set aside the ceremonial tithe. 00:17:07.42\00:17:09.42 In Leviticus 27:30, the tithe, it says, 00:17:09.46\00:17:13.19 "It's holy and it belongs to the Lord. 00:17:13.23\00:17:15.06 It says all the tithe of the land, 00:17:15.10\00:17:17.73 whether the seed of the land 00:17:17.77\00:17:19.10 or of the fruit of the tree is the Lord's. 00:17:19.13\00:17:21.40 It is holy to do, it is holy to the Lord. 00:17:21.44\00:17:26.71 And it is to support the Lord's work." 00:17:26.74\00:17:28.91 We see that in Numbers 18:21, Nehemiah 10:37- 39. 00:17:28.94\00:17:34.72 And I want to say this, 00:17:34.78\00:17:36.18 there were certain sacrificial offerings 00:17:36.22\00:17:40.02 that were symbolized in the Old Testament, 00:17:40.06\00:17:44.36 there were symbols of Christ's atonement on the cross, 00:17:44.39\00:17:48.80 and they ended at the cross. 00:17:48.83\00:17:51.20 But tithing is not in that classification. 00:17:51.23\00:17:56.24 So tithing did not end. 00:17:56.27\00:17:58.44 It was practiced by Abraham. 00:17:58.47\00:18:00.64 It continued through, throughout the Old Testament 00:18:00.68\00:18:04.21 and into the New Testament throughout the New Testament. 00:18:04.25\00:18:07.25 The New Testament upholds and validates 00:18:07.28\00:18:11.09 the practice of tithing. 00:18:11.12\00:18:12.52 It just assumes it as a divine institution of worship. 00:18:12.55\00:18:18.39 And no New Testament writer relaxes its obligation. 00:18:18.43\00:18:23.03 Jesus said in Matthew 23:23, 00:18:23.06\00:18:25.53 "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. 00:18:25.57\00:18:28.87 You pay tithes to mint, anis, cumin, 00:18:28.90\00:18:31.57 and have neglected the weightier matters 00:18:31.64\00:18:34.08 of the law, justice and mercy and faith." 00:18:34.11\00:18:38.28 Now, then he says something interesting, 00:18:38.31\00:18:40.08 "These you ought to have done," 00:18:40.12\00:18:42.28 he's talking about their tithes, 00:18:42.32\00:18:44.25 "without leaving the others undone." 00:18:44.29\00:18:46.76 So He's encouraging tithing, 00:18:46.79\00:18:49.56 but the Pharisees were strict in their tithing, 00:18:49.59\00:18:52.46 and they missed the weightier matters 00:18:52.49\00:18:55.10 of that God had commanded. 00:18:55.13\00:18:57.80 Here's, we're not gonna take time to read it. 00:18:57.87\00:18:59.80 But Hebrews 7:1-8. 00:18:59.83\00:19:02.37 Read Hebrews 7:1-8. 00:19:02.40\00:19:04.64 It's a somewhat casual reference to tithing, 00:19:04.67\00:19:08.71 and it indicates that tithing was already an established 00:19:08.74\00:19:14.12 custom in the New Testament Church. 00:19:14.15\00:19:16.85 It's talking about Melchizedek and just as Abraham tithe 00:19:16.89\00:19:21.59 to Melchizedek, then it says, 00:19:21.62\00:19:23.83 "We likewise pay tithe to Christ. 00:19:23.86\00:19:27.60 Our tithe is returned to Christ, for His church, 00:19:27.66\00:19:31.27 and the glory of the Lord." 00:19:31.30\00:19:32.63 Wow. Amen. 00:19:32.67\00:19:34.00 Amen. 00:19:34.04\00:19:35.37 I'm still kind of stuck on the 20 to 30%, 00:19:35.40\00:19:36.87 and I'm like watching there like, wow, okay, all right. 00:19:36.91\00:19:40.71 Amen. 00:19:40.74\00:19:42.08 But 10% of that that was something 00:19:42.11\00:19:44.75 that the family enjoyed at the feast at the ceremonial. 00:19:44.78\00:19:48.22 Got you. Yeah. 00:19:48.25\00:19:49.62 We're gonna continue in this tithing conversation here. 00:19:49.65\00:19:52.95 Pastor Day, we're gonna come to you this question 00:19:52.99\00:19:56.36 they're asking, "Can you please explain tithing?" 00:19:56.39\00:19:59.46 Okay, so separate from the multiple examples 00:19:59.49\00:20:02.20 that she gave, but also inclusive and one of them. 00:20:02.23\00:20:04.83 Obviously tithing literally in the Bible means 10th. 00:20:04.87\00:20:08.20 And so all of the, all of your income 00:20:08.24\00:20:11.04 that you receive the principle of tithing in scripture, 00:20:11.07\00:20:13.61 especially referring to returning it to the storehouse, 00:20:13.64\00:20:16.18 which we're gonna talk about in just a moment, 00:20:16.21\00:20:18.25 that is referring to a 10th of your income. 00:20:18.31\00:20:20.65 And here's the thing we have to remember, 00:20:20.68\00:20:22.88 none of our money and our belongings 00:20:22.92\00:20:24.42 that we have is ours. 00:20:24.45\00:20:25.79 It's all God's, it all comes to God. 00:20:25.82\00:20:27.19 It's all God's. 00:20:27.22\00:20:28.56 And He's, God is so good to us that He says, 00:20:28.62\00:20:30.16 I'm gonna give you everything. 00:20:30.19\00:20:31.89 And I'm just gonna ask you to return to me a 10th 00:20:31.93\00:20:34.36 for the foregoing and advancement of My work. 00:20:34.36\00:20:36.67 And so I'm gonna go to the probably 00:20:36.70\00:20:38.50 the most famous passage dealing with tithing 00:20:38.53\00:20:40.94 that really instills within us the clear principle 00:20:40.97\00:20:43.57 of what it means and the importance of tithing. 00:20:43.61\00:20:45.34 And that's Malachi 3:8-10. 00:20:45.37\00:20:47.84 I love how God starts this off, 00:20:47.91\00:20:49.38 because He's actually rebuking 00:20:49.41\00:20:50.95 the house of Israel at this time, 00:20:50.98\00:20:52.45 because they weren't tithing properly. 00:20:52.48\00:20:54.18 And He says, "Will a man rob God? 00:20:54.22\00:20:56.42 Yet you have robbed me." 00:20:56.45\00:20:58.72 But you say, "In what way have we robbed you?" 00:20:58.75\00:21:01.06 And he makes it clear, "In tithes and offerings. 00:21:01.09\00:21:03.86 You are cursed with a curse and you have robbed me, 00:21:03.89\00:21:05.93 even this whole nation." 00:21:05.96\00:21:07.30 And here comes the principle, verse 10, 00:21:07.30\00:21:09.36 "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, 00:21:09.40\00:21:11.53 that there may be food in My house." 00:21:11.60\00:21:14.24 Okay, we're gonna come back to that, 00:21:14.27\00:21:15.80 "And try me now on this." 00:21:15.84\00:21:17.31 He says, "Test me, put me to the test." I love this. 00:21:17.34\00:21:20.14 He says, the Lord, He says, "I will not open for you 00:21:20.18\00:21:22.58 the windows of heaven and pour out for you 00:21:22.61\00:21:24.48 such a blessing that there will not be room enough 00:21:24.51\00:21:26.98 to receive it." 00:21:27.02\00:21:28.35 So a lot of people say well, what is the storehouse, right? 00:21:28.38\00:21:30.79 Well, the storehouse is 00:21:30.82\00:21:32.15 what I want it to be not necessarily 00:21:32.22\00:21:33.86 because God clearly says right here 00:21:33.89\00:21:35.62 in the same sentence, 00:21:35.66\00:21:36.99 He says, "Bring the tithes into the storehouse, 00:21:37.03\00:21:38.39 that there may be food in My house." 00:21:38.46\00:21:40.76 The storehouse here is His house, 00:21:40.80\00:21:42.53 the temple, the church. 00:21:42.56\00:21:44.30 And so we give a 10th. 00:21:44.33\00:21:45.67 And when I say give, we're returning, 00:21:45.70\00:21:47.27 we're not paying tithes. 00:21:47.30\00:21:48.64 We don't pay tithes, we return tithe 00:21:48.67\00:21:50.67 because it's already God's, right? 00:21:50.71\00:21:52.04 And God promises as He says, "Please do this. 00:21:52.11\00:21:54.41 And watch me pour out a blessing upon you 00:21:54.44\00:21:56.81 that you can't even receive it." 00:21:56.85\00:21:58.45 That's the principle of tithing. 00:21:58.48\00:22:00.52 And it's simply just as it was originally was established 00:22:00.55\00:22:05.12 in the Old Testament, all the way back in Genesis. 00:22:05.15\00:22:07.56 A lot of people try to say this is a Jewish thing. 00:22:07.59\00:22:09.62 It was for the house of Israel, for that Old Testament 00:22:09.66\00:22:12.29 Church of Israel, but it's not for us today. 00:22:12.33\00:22:13.90 But yet you can find 00:22:13.93\00:22:15.23 all the way back in Genesis 14:20, 00:22:15.30\00:22:17.27 also Genesis 28:22, where Abraham and Jacob 00:22:17.30\00:22:21.00 also gave a 10th of their income, they tithed. 00:22:21.04\00:22:24.14 And so this is not a Jewish thing. 00:22:24.17\00:22:25.77 It's all inclusive as Shelley beautifully brought out, 00:22:25.81\00:22:28.28 it goes over even into the New Testament. 00:22:28.31\00:22:29.71 I love it. 00:22:29.74\00:22:31.08 Here's another thing I've had people say, "Well, Ryan, 00:22:31.11\00:22:33.15 I don't mind tithing and giving a 10th. 00:22:33.18\00:22:34.85 But I don't want to give it to the church 00:22:34.92\00:22:36.38 because well, I don't know what they're doing with it." 00:22:36.42\00:22:38.49 Well, I love the story of the little widow woman 00:22:38.52\00:22:41.46 that brought her two mites. 00:22:41.49\00:22:43.12 It said, she brought it to the treasury of the church. 00:22:43.16\00:22:45.53 Now Jesus, you just read from Matthew 23:23, 00:22:45.56\00:22:48.56 where He told those leaders of the church 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.17 who potentially would have misused that tithe, 00:22:51.20\00:22:53.67 what did you call them? 00:22:53.70\00:22:55.04 You hypocrites, okay. 00:22:55.10\00:22:56.87 But it's interesting that this little widow woman comes 00:22:56.91\00:22:58.81 and she puts all that she had, 00:22:58.87\00:23:00.48 Jesus said she gave more than anyone. 00:23:00.51\00:23:02.41 There would have been an opportunity for Jesus 00:23:02.44\00:23:04.08 to say, "Oh, no, no, no, no, woman, don't do that. 00:23:04.11\00:23:06.41 Don't give your money to these hypocrites, 00:23:06.45\00:23:08.32 to this bad church, because they're bad people. 00:23:08.35\00:23:09.72 They're hypocrites. 00:23:09.75\00:23:11.09 They're gonna misuse and abuse it." 00:23:11.12\00:23:12.52 But He didn't. He commended her for it. 00:23:12.55\00:23:14.79 And I just say that in closing here 00:23:14.86\00:23:16.36 to say that tithing is a blessing. 00:23:16.39\00:23:18.06 It's not for us to judge where it, 00:23:18.13\00:23:19.83 where it's gone, or how it's used. 00:23:19.86\00:23:21.46 That's between those who have it 00:23:21.50\00:23:22.93 and use it within the church, 00:23:22.96\00:23:24.40 but we are to be faithful to God 00:23:24.43\00:23:26.17 and return to Him, 00:23:26.20\00:23:27.54 what is His and that's a 10th of our income. 00:23:27.57\00:23:29.44 It's already His, just give it to Him for a blessing. 00:23:29.47\00:23:31.57 Amen. 00:23:31.61\00:23:32.94 I love that. I love that. 00:23:32.97\00:23:34.31 It's a blessing. 00:23:34.34\00:23:35.68 Absolutely. 00:23:35.71\00:23:37.05 You're probably sitting at home right now, 00:23:37.08\00:23:38.41 if you just join, if you're just joining us, 00:23:38.45\00:23:40.32 and you're wondering, "Well, how do I submit my questions?" 00:23:40.35\00:23:43.62 Well, there's two ways that you may do so. 00:23:43.65\00:23:46.29 You can text your questions to 618-228-3975. 00:23:46.32\00:23:51.89 Or you can email your questions 00:23:51.93\00:23:53.86 to Bible QA@3abn.org 00:23:53.90\00:23:59.80 This is an exciting programs thus far. 00:23:59.83\00:24:04.67 These questions that have been coming in 00:24:04.71\00:24:08.24 have been really, really good. 00:24:08.28\00:24:10.35 We're gonna go to this question for Jill. 00:24:10.38\00:24:12.68 This comes from Kathy out of Pennsylvania. 00:24:12.71\00:24:15.88 And Kathy wants to know, she says, 00:24:15.92\00:24:17.35 "The disciples addressed their letters 00:24:17.39\00:24:19.49 to Jesus' followers back then, how do we know 00:24:19.52\00:24:22.72 that we can apply God's Word to our personal lives today? 00:24:22.76\00:24:26.96 Is there a verse to support it?" 00:24:27.00\00:24:29.03 Thank you, Kathy. 00:24:29.06\00:24:30.40 I would say there's two verses initially right off the bat 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.40 that jumped to my mind. 00:24:32.43\00:24:33.77 First is Romans 15:4, "For whatever things 00:24:33.80\00:24:36.34 were written before were written for our learning." 00:24:36.37\00:24:40.28 It doesn't say for the Romans' learning, 00:24:40.31\00:24:42.21 because of course, the Epistle of Paul 00:24:42.24\00:24:44.08 to the Romans was written to the Roman Church. 00:24:44.11\00:24:45.61 It doesn't say that, it's written for our learning, 00:24:45.68\00:24:48.02 that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures 00:24:48.05\00:24:50.72 might have hope. 00:24:50.75\00:24:52.32 Another scripture I think of is also in Paul's writings. 00:24:52.35\00:24:54.82 This is 2 Timothy 3:16-17. 00:24:54.89\00:24:58.16 All scripture, now that word all in Greek is pas. 00:24:58.19\00:25:01.20 It means each and every one. 00:25:01.23\00:25:03.83 Not all scripture in general, 00:25:03.87\00:25:05.97 but it means each and every individual scripture 00:25:06.00\00:25:09.10 is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, 00:25:09.17\00:25:13.94 for reproof, for correction, 00:25:13.98\00:25:15.84 for instruction in righteousness, 00:25:15.88\00:25:18.58 that the man or woman of God may be perfect or complete, 00:25:18.61\00:25:23.02 thoroughly equipped for every good work. 00:25:23.05\00:25:25.72 Everything we find in the Word of God 00:25:25.75\00:25:28.49 is helpful for us today. 00:25:28.52\00:25:30.96 I want to give you a couple of keys to understanding 00:25:30.99\00:25:33.23 and interpreting and implying the Word of God. 00:25:33.26\00:25:36.67 Key number one is intention determines meaning. 00:25:36.70\00:25:41.00 The interpretation must be based 00:25:41.04\00:25:42.90 on the author's intention of meaning, 00:25:42.94\00:25:45.01 not the readers understanding. 00:25:45.04\00:25:47.61 Unless you learn the intended meaning of the text writer, 00:25:47.64\00:25:50.95 you will not be able to properly convey the message. 00:25:50.98\00:25:53.68 Number two, context determines meaning, 00:25:53.72\00:25:57.49 interpretation must be done on the context of the passage 00:25:57.52\00:26:02.49 that you were reading. 00:26:02.52\00:26:03.86 Number three, it's important to understand the difference 00:26:03.89\00:26:06.43 between literal interpretation and times 00:26:06.46\00:26:09.43 when there's a symbolic interpretation of the passage. 00:26:09.46\00:26:13.50 Number four, the genre of biblical literature 00:26:13.54\00:26:16.87 that determines meaning. 00:26:16.91\00:26:19.91 Number five, other scriptures, they determine meaning. 00:26:19.94\00:26:23.98 Use the Bible to interpret itself. 00:26:24.01\00:26:27.15 Number six, 00:26:27.18\00:26:28.52 separate interpretation from application. 00:26:28.55\00:26:31.89 We can look first at the local historical context. 00:26:31.92\00:26:35.66 Then we need to determine the application 00:26:35.69\00:26:37.53 for you and I today. 00:26:37.56\00:26:39.06 Wow. 00:26:39.13\00:26:40.46 Amen, amen. 00:26:40.50\00:26:41.80 Thank you, Jill. 00:26:41.83\00:26:43.16 Shelley, what did Jesus mean when He said, 00:26:43.20\00:26:45.23 "I have not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it? 00:26:45.27\00:26:49.24 It seems a little confusing. 00:26:49.27\00:26:51.57 What does it mean that He fulfilled the law?" 00:26:51.61\00:26:54.71 This is from David. Okay. 00:26:54.74\00:26:56.21 This is where David boy, 00:26:56.24\00:26:57.58 I'll tell you the Greek really helps us understating, 00:26:57.61\00:27:00.25 seeing the original language. 00:27:00.28\00:27:02.08 Your question is from Matthew 5:17. 00:27:02.15\00:27:04.39 Jesus says, "Do not think that I came to destroy the law 00:27:04.42\00:27:07.26 or the prophets." 00:27:07.29\00:27:08.66 This is the twofold division of the Old Testament Scriptures, 00:27:08.69\00:27:11.46 that proves your point 00:27:11.49\00:27:12.83 that Jesus is validating all Scripture. 00:27:12.86\00:27:16.06 And He says, "I did not come to destroy but to fulfill." 00:27:16.10\00:27:22.10 I believe in the context, here He is, most specifically, 00:27:22.14\00:27:26.64 because we're looking at the Sermon on the Mount. 00:27:26.68\00:27:28.74 He's talking more specifically about the moral law, 00:27:28.78\00:27:32.71 but we're gonna hit on this. 00:27:32.75\00:27:34.28 Fulfill in the Greek means to make a full, 00:27:34.32\00:27:38.95 to fill it full. 00:27:38.99\00:27:41.86 You're gonna fill it up. 00:27:41.92\00:27:43.79 And Isaiah 42:21, it says, "The Lord is well please 00:27:43.83\00:27:48.06 for his righteousness sake, He will exalt the law." 00:27:48.10\00:27:51.30 He's gonna magnify the instructions 00:27:51.33\00:27:54.67 and make it honorable. 00:27:54.70\00:27:56.27 This is part of why Jesus came and in this same chapter 00:27:56.30\00:28:01.01 on Matthew 5 where we find the Sermon on the Mount. 00:28:01.04\00:28:03.71 Jesus says in verse 21-22, hey, you've heard it said, 00:28:03.75\00:28:07.72 You shall not murder but I say, okay, 00:28:07.75\00:28:11.05 here's what the letter of the law says. 00:28:11.09\00:28:13.82 But the spirit of the law, I say to you, 00:28:13.86\00:28:16.83 if you hate your brother, you're in danger of judgment. 00:28:16.86\00:28:20.33 In verse 27-28, 00:28:20.36\00:28:22.33 you've heard it said you should not commit adultery, 00:28:22.36\00:28:24.53 I say to you, if you look at a woman, 00:28:24.57\00:28:27.94 you lust after a woman, 00:28:27.97\00:28:29.70 you've already committed adultery in your heart. 00:28:29.74\00:28:32.34 So Christ is fulfilling the moral law. 00:28:32.37\00:28:37.25 He's filling it up to the fullest understanding, 00:28:37.28\00:28:40.92 magnifying the law in its spiritual application. 00:28:40.95\00:28:45.72 Now we take that same word when we say Christ fulfilled 00:28:45.75\00:28:50.33 the ritual ceremonial laws 00:28:50.36\00:28:53.29 that are pointed to Him, 00:28:53.33\00:28:57.60 He was the embodiment of everything that the law, 00:28:57.63\00:29:03.00 the old law was the types and shadows of 00:29:03.04\00:29:07.21 so that did cease at the cross but the moral law He magnified. 00:29:07.24\00:29:12.58 Amen. Thank you for that explanation. 00:29:12.61\00:29:14.12 Amen. Yes. 00:29:14.15\00:29:16.82 I start watching that clock and then... 00:29:16.85\00:29:21.16 It flies by, doesn't it? 00:29:21.19\00:29:22.52 It does. Yes, yes. Right, I know. 00:29:22.59\00:29:23.99 Pastor Day, this comes from Kimberly out of Florida. 00:29:24.03\00:29:27.56 She wants to know, "Is it okay for Seventh-day Adventist 00:29:27.60\00:29:30.40 Christian women to wear clear polish fingernail 00:29:30.43\00:29:34.80 and natural soft colored fingernail polish. 00:29:34.84\00:29:38.37 And is it okay to braid your hair?" 00:29:38.41\00:29:40.94 Well, the quick clear answer is yes. 00:29:40.98\00:29:45.25 And I know right when I just said that. 00:29:45.28\00:29:47.68 There's probably a bunch of people 00:29:47.72\00:29:49.05 who just went you know, what did he say? 00:29:49.12\00:29:51.55 Apostasy! 00:29:51.59\00:29:53.92 You know, there's a lot of misunderstanding 00:29:53.96\00:29:55.99 and just misapplication to many texts in Scripture 00:29:56.06\00:30:01.00 and also I think when we're talking about a subject 00:30:01.03\00:30:02.83 such as this, we need to ask ourselves this, 00:30:02.86\00:30:04.90 what, let's consider what the Bible doesn't say 00:30:04.93\00:30:07.50 on these subjects before we draw a conclusion. 00:30:07.54\00:30:09.90 Many times we assume that 00:30:09.94\00:30:11.27 because we might have heard a preacher 00:30:11.31\00:30:12.81 or we might have read something, 00:30:12.84\00:30:14.18 you know, in some books somewhere about this 00:30:14.21\00:30:16.21 that the Bible's just flooded with so much information 00:30:16.24\00:30:18.75 on this, and in reality 00:30:18.81\00:30:20.15 there's not one text in all the Bible 00:30:20.18\00:30:21.98 that says it's wrong to, you know, wear some type of, 00:30:22.02\00:30:25.59 you know, makeup applicant or to braid the hair. 00:30:25.65\00:30:28.66 There's not that there. 00:30:28.72\00:30:30.09 But what we often do is we go and find a text, for instance, 00:30:30.13\00:30:32.83 1 Timothy 2:9, let's just go there 00:30:32.86\00:30:35.16 and read that one where Paul says, 00:30:35.23\00:30:37.03 "And like men are also 00:30:37.07\00:30:38.40 that women adorn themselves in modest apparel 00:30:38.43\00:30:40.07 with sobriety, or excuse me, with propriety and moderation, 00:30:40.10\00:30:44.51 not with braided hair, or gold or pearls, or costly clothing." 00:30:44.54\00:30:48.31 Notice how that's all in connection, 00:30:48.34\00:30:50.25 not with braided hair, gold, pearls or costly clothing. 00:30:50.28\00:30:55.15 What, it's interesting here that that word braided 00:30:55.18\00:30:57.12 in the original King James says with broided hair. 00:30:57.15\00:30:59.55 And it's interesting that broided 00:30:59.59\00:31:00.99 as the root word of embroidery. 00:31:01.02\00:31:02.76 And so what would happen often in this context, 00:31:02.79\00:31:05.13 and you'd have to study historical context. 00:31:05.16\00:31:07.23 You have to practice proper biblical hermeneutics, 00:31:07.30\00:31:09.90 when you're looking into subjects such as this, 00:31:09.93\00:31:11.63 because oftentimes, 00:31:11.67\00:31:13.00 the biblical writers would write things, 00:31:13.03\00:31:14.87 and they're writing from within the personal issue 00:31:14.90\00:31:17.61 that was happening in their day, 00:31:17.64\00:31:19.44 in this case, 2000 years ago, 2500 plus years ago. 00:31:19.47\00:31:23.88 And so we often want to read and say, "Oh, 00:31:23.91\00:31:25.61 it's a sin if the woman braids her hair." 00:31:25.68\00:31:27.75 Well, what the women were doing back in those days 00:31:27.78\00:31:29.62 in a broidered type way, 00:31:29.65\00:31:31.45 is not only were they braiding the hair, 00:31:31.49\00:31:32.85 but they would often, you know, weave in gold and pearls 00:31:32.89\00:31:36.12 and different things within their hair. 00:31:36.16\00:31:37.53 And there was different social classes 00:31:37.56\00:31:39.63 and economic classes, 00:31:39.66\00:31:40.96 that they were literally trying to get one up in the church 00:31:41.00\00:31:43.13 on one or the other women in the church 00:31:43.16\00:31:44.53 by looking fancy and flashy, and it became almost a contest. 00:31:44.57\00:31:48.07 That's what Paul's addressing here 00:31:48.10\00:31:49.44 as far as the braiding of the hair. 00:31:49.47\00:31:50.84 Not that it's, not that it's a sin 00:31:50.87\00:31:52.51 that if a woman takes 00:31:52.54\00:31:53.88 two or three strands of hair and goes 00:31:53.91\00:31:56.18 and weaves it together, oh, you've somehow sin. 00:31:56.21\00:31:58.65 We can be very pharisaical about this, 00:31:58.68\00:32:00.65 and we need to be very careful on how we address it. 00:32:00.68\00:32:02.78 As far as the clear nail polish 00:32:02.85\00:32:04.49 or the fleshly colored nail polish. 00:32:04.52\00:32:06.86 You know, there is some counsel 00:32:06.89\00:32:08.26 that are given to us in Scripture about you know, 00:32:08.29\00:32:10.29 not wearing you know, flashy bright colors, 00:32:10.33\00:32:12.99 painting of the face like Jezebel. 00:32:13.03\00:32:14.96 We have to be very, very careful about that 00:32:15.00\00:32:16.77 because often that is associated 00:32:16.80\00:32:18.37 with pagan religions and pagan practices. 00:32:18.40\00:32:20.50 But you know what I'm wearing right now I'm wearing makeup, 00:32:20.54\00:32:23.10 I have to wear makeup because these bright lights if I did, 00:32:23.14\00:32:25.64 my face would light up like a, like the sun, right? 00:32:25.71\00:32:27.64 Yeah. 00:32:27.68\00:32:29.01 And so, you know, it's not a sin 00:32:29.08\00:32:30.41 to put on these things in light and moderation, 00:32:30.45\00:32:32.58 but to go all out like the world would, 00:32:32.65\00:32:34.82 that's when it becomes a problem. 00:32:34.85\00:32:36.22 And that's what we have to keep it 00:32:36.25\00:32:37.59 within its proper context. 00:32:37.62\00:32:38.95 Wow. 00:32:38.99\00:32:40.32 Excellent, excellent explanation there, Ryan. 00:32:40.36\00:32:43.99 We will go to Jill, "Jill in Luke 23:34, 00:32:44.03\00:32:48.50 Jesus states on the cross, 00:32:48.56\00:32:50.27 "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." 00:32:50.30\00:32:53.64 Did God honor Jesus' request on the cross 00:32:53.67\00:32:57.31 by forgiving them?" 00:32:57.34\00:32:58.67 This is from Hermiston out of Oregon. 00:32:58.71\00:33:01.31 That's a great question 00:33:01.34\00:33:03.24 and one I've actually wondered myself, 00:33:03.28\00:33:05.15 Forgiveness is not vicarious. 00:33:05.18\00:33:07.65 It cannot be applied because someone else asked, 00:33:07.68\00:33:10.49 no more than it can be given through someone else. 00:33:10.52\00:33:13.82 You know, we know that we do not ask for forgiveness 00:33:13.86\00:33:17.16 for ourselves through a priest. 00:33:17.19\00:33:18.73 We know that very clearly. 00:33:18.76\00:33:20.86 1 Timothy 2:5-6, "There is one mediator. 00:33:20.90\00:33:24.37 We have access to God through the mediator, 00:33:24.40\00:33:26.50 the man Jesus Christ, 00:33:26.53\00:33:27.94 but neither can we ask forgiveness for someone else." 00:33:27.97\00:33:32.27 The requirement for forgiveness is repentance. 00:33:32.31\00:33:35.08 We cannot repent for someone else. 00:33:35.11\00:33:38.25 We can however, intercede for someone else. 00:33:38.28\00:33:42.28 There's a difference between intercession and repentance. 00:33:42.32\00:33:46.86 You know, 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, 00:33:46.89\00:33:49.26 He God is faithful and just to forgive us, 00:33:49.32\00:33:52.29 and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 00:33:52.33\00:33:54.03 That means I need to come before God personally, 00:33:54.10\00:33:56.90 and repent of my sin and say, "I did this, I'm sorry, 00:33:56.93\00:34:00.44 would you forgive me?" 00:34:00.47\00:34:01.90 And God extends forgiveness. 00:34:01.94\00:34:04.47 However, we see wonderful examples in the Word of God 00:34:04.51\00:34:07.91 of intercession on behalf of someone else. 00:34:07.94\00:34:12.51 I can think of four right off the bat. 00:34:12.55\00:34:14.15 There's more, but the four I think of the first one, 00:34:14.18\00:34:16.18 of course, would be the one that was referenced 00:34:16.22\00:34:18.29 in this reference Jesus, 00:34:18.32\00:34:19.65 His arm stretched out at the cross, 00:34:19.69\00:34:21.29 "Father forgive them, 00:34:21.32\00:34:23.02 for they know not what they do." 00:34:23.06\00:34:24.56 Now did every man who crucified Him, 00:34:24.59\00:34:26.90 were they all repentant? 00:34:26.93\00:34:28.23 Were they all forgiven? 00:34:28.26\00:34:29.63 No, we see in Revelation 1:7, "Every eye will see Him 00:34:29.66\00:34:33.40 and those also who pierce Him 00:34:33.44\00:34:35.57 and all nations will wail because of Him." 00:34:35.60\00:34:38.34 We know that some of those who crucified Jesus 00:34:38.37\00:34:40.81 will not be in the kingdom. 00:34:40.84\00:34:42.21 I think of Steven when he's been stoned to death. 00:34:42.24\00:34:45.48 And what did he say, 00:34:45.51\00:34:46.85 "Lay not this sin to their charge." 00:34:46.88\00:34:49.05 Does that mean every single one of those priests were forgiven? 00:34:49.08\00:34:51.29 No. 00:34:51.32\00:34:52.65 Of course, Saul turned Paul was definitely forgiven. 00:34:52.72\00:34:55.82 He met Jesus on the Damascus Road. 00:34:55.89\00:34:57.69 He repented of his sin, and he was forgiven. 00:34:57.73\00:35:01.06 I think of Moses interceding for the children of Israel 00:35:01.10\00:35:04.83 after the golden calf experience. 00:35:04.87\00:35:07.60 Does that mean they were all forgiven? 00:35:07.64\00:35:09.27 No, it means they had to repent themselves. 00:35:09.30\00:35:12.44 I think of Daniel asking for forgiveness for the people 00:35:12.47\00:35:16.61 of Israel, asking for that forgiveness. 00:35:16.64\00:35:19.31 But yet we still individually need to ask for forgiveness 00:35:19.38\00:35:23.32 and repent ourselves. 00:35:23.35\00:35:24.75 Amen. Beautiful answer. 00:35:24.79\00:35:26.76 Wonderful. Absolutely. 00:35:26.79\00:35:28.62 Shelley, "What law is Galatians 3 00:35:28.66\00:35:31.93 talking about in general and full context?" 00:35:31.96\00:35:35.03 All right. I love that question. 00:35:35.06\00:35:37.87 It is so easy to see right within the context 00:35:37.90\00:35:42.47 Galatians Chapter 3 is talking about the book of the law. 00:35:42.54\00:35:47.14 Let's go ahead and read that. 00:35:47.18\00:35:48.91 In Galatians 3:10-14, it says, 00:35:48.98\00:35:51.11 "As many as are of the works of the law 00:35:51.15\00:35:54.98 are under the curse, for it is written, 00:35:55.02\00:35:56.95 'Cursed is everyone 00:35:56.99\00:35:58.72 who does not continue in all things 00:35:58.79\00:36:02.22 which are written in the book of the law to do them." 00:36:02.26\00:36:06.16 That's a direct quote from Deuteronomy 27:26. 00:36:06.19\00:36:11.93 So we, He tells us what works He's talking about. 00:36:11.97\00:36:16.24 Then he goes on and says, 00:36:16.27\00:36:17.61 "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law." 00:36:17.64\00:36:20.48 Now, let me back up just a moment. 00:36:20.51\00:36:23.95 In Exodus 24:3-8, 00:36:23.98\00:36:27.22 we see that God had already spoken the Ten Commandments. 00:36:27.25\00:36:31.62 Moses went up the mountain for 40 days, 00:36:31.65\00:36:33.96 God speaks to Moses. 00:36:33.99\00:36:36.16 And Moses comes down and he shares it 00:36:36.19\00:36:38.19 with all the people all the words. 00:36:38.23\00:36:40.40 They say, okay, he writes them in a book. 00:36:40.43\00:36:43.50 And then he builds an altar. 00:36:43.53\00:36:46.33 It's a covenant, what is written in this book, 00:36:46.37\00:36:50.74 and it's actually called it says, 00:36:50.77\00:36:52.57 "He took the book of the covenant." 00:36:52.61\00:36:54.58 Exodus 24:7, "He read it in the hearing of the people. 00:36:54.61\00:36:59.11 And then he sprinkled the people 00:36:59.15\00:37:01.88 in the book with blood." 00:37:01.92\00:37:03.32 So this was not the everlasting covenant 00:37:03.35\00:37:06.92 of redemption by grace. 00:37:06.96\00:37:08.92 It was a temporary covenant. 00:37:08.96\00:37:10.43 It was like constitution for Israel. 00:37:10.46\00:37:14.10 Then Moses, when he got the people 00:37:14.10\00:37:16.93 to the next generation 00:37:16.97\00:37:19.67 was standing at the edge of promise. 00:37:19.73\00:37:22.07 And Moses in the Book of Deuteronomy expands 00:37:22.10\00:37:25.77 on this covenant from the book of the covenant. 00:37:25.81\00:37:28.68 And now he calls it the book of the law. 00:37:28.71\00:37:31.25 And he puts it, the Lord tells him, 00:37:31.28\00:37:33.88 Deuteronomy 31:26, 00:37:33.92\00:37:36.08 "Take this book of the law, 00:37:36.12\00:37:37.45 put it beside the Ark of the Covenant, 00:37:37.49\00:37:39.99 which is a witness against you." 00:37:40.02\00:37:43.12 And so, you know, in Colossians 2:14, 00:37:43.16\00:37:45.89 what it's talking about, it was nailed to, 00:37:45.93\00:37:48.93 what was nailed to the cross? 00:37:48.96\00:37:50.50 It was that which was contrary to us, the witness against us. 00:37:50.53\00:37:56.37 But I have to give one more scripture, 00:37:56.40\00:37:58.17 in Galatians, 00:37:58.21\00:37:59.54 this book of the law, in Galatians, 3:19, he says, 00:37:59.57\00:38:03.58 "What purpose then does the law serve?" 00:38:03.61\00:38:06.21 He's talking about the book of the law, 00:38:06.25\00:38:08.58 the Deuteronomy was the second giving of the law. 00:38:08.62\00:38:11.49 It was added because of transgressions 00:38:11.52\00:38:14.12 till the siege should come to whom the promise was made. 00:38:14.16\00:38:18.46 And it was appointed through angels 00:38:18.49\00:38:20.43 by the hand of the mediator, 00:38:20.46\00:38:22.13 therefore the law that old covenant, 00:38:22.16\00:38:25.60 the book of the law, the book of Deuteronomy 00:38:25.63\00:38:28.27 was our tutor to bring us to Christ 00:38:28.30\00:38:30.91 that we might be justified by faith. 00:38:30.94\00:38:33.81 But after faith is come, we're no longer under a tutor. 00:38:33.84\00:38:36.68 Amen and amen. 00:38:36.71\00:38:38.05 You know, I love when you get questions on the covenant. 00:38:38.08\00:38:42.55 And I know you do too. And I know you do too. 00:38:42.58\00:38:44.82 Yes. 00:38:44.85\00:38:46.22 Pastor Day, "Will people who have identified 00:38:46.25\00:38:49.12 with the LGBTQ group be considered sinners? 00:38:49.19\00:38:52.39 Will they have an opportunity to be saved 00:38:52.46\00:38:55.36 since the Bible speaks against this lifestyle? 00:38:55.40\00:38:58.30 Also, should they be allowed to hold church office positions?" 00:38:58.33\00:39:02.80 This is from Linda. 00:39:02.84\00:39:04.24 That's a great question. 00:39:04.27\00:39:05.61 I'll try to address each one of those questions. 00:39:05.64\00:39:06.98 I'll start with the first one. 00:39:07.01\00:39:08.34 Now, will people who have identified with the LGBTQ group 00:39:08.38\00:39:11.88 be considered sinners? 00:39:11.91\00:39:13.28 I know very clearly, let me make this very clear 00:39:13.31\00:39:16.05 that the Bible makes it very clear that 00:39:16.08\00:39:17.82 that type of mentality and that lifestyle 00:39:17.85\00:39:20.09 is an abomination to the Lord. 00:39:20.12\00:39:22.06 You can read that in Leviticus 20:13. 00:39:22.09\00:39:25.29 Now when we talk about, you know, 00:39:25.33\00:39:27.76 coming to the point to say, well, 00:39:27.83\00:39:29.13 that person's a sinner, or that person's a sinner. 00:39:29.20\00:39:31.07 We're all sinners. 00:39:31.10\00:39:32.47 We've all fallen short of the glory of God. 00:39:32.50\00:39:33.84 And so we have to be all inclusive in that sense. 00:39:33.87\00:39:36.07 But you know, we also kind of goes back 00:39:36.14\00:39:37.71 to what I made earlier, 00:39:37.74\00:39:39.11 we have to be careful and understand 00:39:39.14\00:39:40.48 that, you know, every person is on a journey. 00:39:40.51\00:39:43.11 And a person may not always be aware 00:39:43.18\00:39:46.25 of the will of God for their life, 00:39:46.28\00:39:47.68 until a certain time in their life. 00:39:47.72\00:39:49.62 And so we have to be careful how we identify, 00:39:49.65\00:39:51.55 so that person is a sinner. 00:39:51.59\00:39:52.92 That person is a sinner. 00:39:52.99\00:39:54.32 That's between them and the Lord 00:39:54.36\00:39:55.69 and for God to make that call. 00:39:55.72\00:39:57.39 Is that is the lifestyle that mentality is sin? 00:39:57.43\00:39:59.13 Absolutely. 00:39:59.16\00:40:00.50 In fact, Romans 1:26-27 says this, it says, 00:40:00.53\00:40:03.90 "For this reason God gave them up to vile passions, 00:40:03.93\00:40:07.07 for even their women exchanged the natural use 00:40:07.10\00:40:09.20 for what is against nature. 00:40:09.24\00:40:10.81 Likewise, also the men leaving the natural use 00:40:10.84\00:40:13.41 of the woman burned in lust for one another, 00:40:13.44\00:40:15.98 men with men committing what is shameful, 00:40:16.04\00:40:18.05 and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error 00:40:18.08\00:40:20.75 which was due." 00:40:20.78\00:40:22.12 So we know God's attitude towards these practices. 00:40:22.15\00:40:24.35 It's not good, and God does frown upon it. 00:40:24.39\00:40:26.69 But certainly, we have to also understand 00:40:26.72\00:40:28.69 that a person may not be aware of these truths, 00:40:28.72\00:40:31.23 and we have to take that in consideration. 00:40:31.26\00:40:33.60 Will they have an opportunity to be saved? 00:40:33.63\00:40:36.16 You know, even though the Bible speaks against it, of course, 00:40:36.23\00:40:38.23 right now, God, the heaven's doors wide open, 00:40:38.27\00:40:41.27 God is knocking on the door of their heart, 00:40:41.30\00:40:42.67 just like anyone else. 00:40:42.70\00:40:44.04 And so absolutely, if they're open, 00:40:44.07\00:40:45.74 Jesus Christ is there to save them and redeem them 00:40:45.77\00:40:48.41 from that lifestyle. 00:40:48.44\00:40:49.81 And, of course, should they be allowed 00:40:49.84\00:40:51.25 to hold church office positions. 00:40:51.28\00:40:53.11 An absolute no. 00:40:53.18\00:40:54.92 And the reason why that is, 00:40:54.95\00:40:56.28 is because when we open that door 00:40:56.35\00:40:58.95 to allow that to come in, what we're doing 00:40:59.02\00:41:01.06 is we're opening the door to a leavening process. 00:41:01.09\00:41:03.76 A compromise that is against the will of God. 00:41:03.79\00:41:06.09 That doesn't mean we don't love the people, 00:41:06.13\00:41:08.06 because we love them, we should love them, 00:41:08.10\00:41:09.53 no matter what type of lifestyle they choose, 00:41:09.56\00:41:11.33 because they are creation of God. 00:41:11.37\00:41:14.00 But at the same time, we need to, we need to protect 00:41:14.04\00:41:16.81 the sanctity of God's Church 00:41:16.84\00:41:18.87 and the unity of God's Church in that sense. 00:41:18.91\00:41:21.24 Amen. Amen. 00:41:21.28\00:41:22.61 Well said. Absolutely. 00:41:22.64\00:41:24.01 Jill, is there power in prayer? 00:41:24.05\00:41:26.18 Yes, absolutely we can be done right there 00:41:26.21\00:41:28.55 by just saying that. 00:41:28.58\00:41:29.95 Yes there's power in prayer. 00:41:29.98\00:41:31.32 I want to give you, if I have time nine things 00:41:31.35\00:41:33.42 that prayer accomplishes and of course, 00:41:33.46\00:41:35.06 there's many more than that. 00:41:35.09\00:41:36.62 Number one, prayer brings you and I closer to God. 00:41:36.69\00:41:39.86 Psalm 145:18, "The Lord is near to all who call on him 00:41:39.89\00:41:44.60 to all call on Him in truth." 00:41:44.63\00:41:46.70 Number two, prayer, it brings peace. 00:41:46.74\00:41:49.84 Philippians 4:6-7, "Be anxious for nothing 00:41:49.87\00:41:52.71 but in everything by prayer and supplication 00:41:52.74\00:41:54.98 with thanksgiving. 00:41:55.01\00:41:56.48 Let your requests be made known to God. 00:41:56.51\00:41:58.41 And the peace of God 00:41:58.45\00:41:59.95 which surpasses all understanding will keep 00:42:00.05\00:42:01.98 or guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." 00:42:02.02\00:42:05.45 So prayer, it brings peace. 00:42:05.49\00:42:07.32 Number three, prayer brings healing. 00:42:07.36\00:42:10.23 It brings physical healing, and it brings spiritual healing 00:42:10.26\00:42:13.46 and emotional healing. 00:42:13.50\00:42:15.36 James 5:16, "Confess your trespasses to one another 00:42:15.40\00:42:18.40 in praying for one another, that you may be healed." 00:42:18.43\00:42:22.94 Number four, prayer brings conversion, 00:42:22.97\00:42:25.37 this is one of my favorites, Luke 22:31-32. 00:42:25.41\00:42:29.78 Jesus is speaking. 00:42:29.81\00:42:31.15 "And the Lord said Simon, Simon, Satan has asked for you 00:42:31.18\00:42:34.05 that he may sift you as we, but I, I have prayed for you. 00:42:34.08\00:42:39.19 And when you have returned to me, or King James says, 00:42:39.22\00:42:41.92 when you are converted, strengthen your brethren." 00:42:41.96\00:42:45.33 Prayer, it brings conversions in other people's lives. 00:42:45.36\00:42:48.93 Number five, prayer effectuates change. 00:42:48.96\00:42:52.53 James 5:16, "The effect of fervent prayer 00:42:52.57\00:42:54.84 of a righteous man avails much." 00:42:54.87\00:42:57.37 Prayer brings change. 00:42:57.41\00:42:58.74 Number six. 00:42:58.77\00:43:00.18 Prayer teaches surrender. 00:43:00.21\00:43:02.48 1 John 5:14, 00:43:02.51\00:43:04.15 "This is the confidence we have in Him, 00:43:04.18\00:43:06.05 if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 00:43:06.08\00:43:10.52 It is so important when we pray that we surrender, 00:43:10.55\00:43:13.82 not my will, God but Yours be done." 00:43:13.86\00:43:16.56 Number seven, prayer brings forgiveness. 00:43:16.59\00:43:20.03 Look that up 1 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, 00:43:20.06\00:43:24.20 who are called by my name 00:43:24.23\00:43:25.60 will humble themselves and pray," what happens? 00:43:55.40\00:43:57.57 Can you please explain this so it is clear that loved ones 00:43:57.60\00:44:00.64 are not looking down from heaven 00:44:00.67\00:44:02.50 but are asleep in the grave?" 00:44:02.54\00:44:03.94 That's from Louis. 00:44:03.97\00:44:05.31 Absolutely. 00:44:05.34\00:44:06.68 And your reference is from Hebrews 12:1, 00:44:06.71\00:44:10.05 but I'm gonna kind of backup. 00:44:10.08\00:44:11.85 Remember when the Bible was written, 00:44:11.88\00:44:14.25 there was no vision of chapter and verse, 00:44:14.28\00:44:17.62 it all went together, and even no punctuation. 00:44:17.65\00:44:21.39 But let's in Hebrews 11, the Bible says 00:44:21.42\00:44:24.19 that, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, 00:44:24.23\00:44:27.30 the evidence of things not seen." 00:44:27.36\00:44:29.16 Verse 2 says, "By it the elders obtained a good testimony." 00:44:29.20\00:44:33.50 So chapter 11 is the hall of faith. 00:44:33.54\00:44:37.64 And it mentions Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham Sarah, Isaac, 00:44:37.67\00:44:41.31 Jacob, Moses, Rehab, and the New Testament believers 00:44:41.34\00:44:44.88 who were martyred. 00:44:44.91\00:44:47.18 They were equipped by faith. 00:44:47.22\00:44:49.22 They were motivated by faith. 00:44:49.25\00:44:50.62 They were aroused to action by faith, 00:44:50.65\00:44:53.32 and they were sustained by their faith, 00:44:53.36\00:44:56.19 and they all obtained a good testimony, 00:44:56.22\00:44:59.36 but then in verse 13 of Hebrews 11, it says, 00:44:59.39\00:45:03.16 "They all died in faith, 00:45:03.20\00:45:05.43 but not having received the promise, 00:45:05.47\00:45:07.84 because they saw them from afar of. 00:45:07.87\00:45:10.44 They embrace them. 00:45:10.47\00:45:11.81 They confess that they were strangers 00:45:11.84\00:45:14.04 and pilgrims in this world." 00:45:14.08\00:45:15.61 Now look in Hebrews 11:39-40. 00:45:15.64\00:45:18.55 These are the last two verses of Chapter 11. 00:45:18.58\00:45:21.75 It says, "All these, 00:45:21.78\00:45:23.45 having obtained good testimony through faith, 00:45:23.49\00:45:27.62 did not receive the promise God having provided 00:45:27.66\00:45:30.56 something better for us, 00:45:30.59\00:45:32.49 that they should not be made perfect depart from us." 00:45:32.53\00:45:35.56 In other words, we're all gonna go into His presence 00:45:35.60\00:45:37.63 at the same time. 00:45:37.67\00:45:39.10 And the very next verse, which is Hebrews 12:1. 00:45:39.13\00:45:42.94 Remember, no divisions, no chapters, 00:45:42.97\00:45:46.51 no verses in the original. 00:45:46.54\00:45:48.24 It says, "Therefore we also since we're surrounded 00:45:48.28\00:45:52.08 by so great a cloud of witnesses." 00:45:52.11\00:45:55.25 Referring to all of these deceased saints 00:45:55.28\00:45:59.42 that we've just read about, 00:45:59.49\00:46:01.76 "Let us lay aside every weakness 00:46:01.79\00:46:03.89 in which so easily ensnares us 00:46:03.93\00:46:06.56 and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. 00:46:06.59\00:46:10.93 They bore witness to us." 00:46:10.97\00:46:12.97 And we're supposed to follow their example. 00:46:13.00\00:46:15.54 Amen, Shelley. Amen. 00:46:15.57\00:46:17.04 Wonderful. 00:46:17.07\00:46:18.41 Pastor Day, "Can you please explain where does it say 00:46:18.44\00:46:21.34 that some individuals resurrected with Jesus, 00:46:21.38\00:46:25.51 and that they went to heaven with Him." 00:46:25.55\00:46:27.65 All right, I took a few seconds on my previous, 00:46:27.68\00:46:29.82 little more time on my previous ones. 00:46:29.85\00:46:31.95 I think I can answer this one in under two minutes, 00:46:31.99\00:46:34.12 the only reference Glenny, 00:46:34.16\00:46:35.49 I think this comes from Glenny in New York. 00:46:35.52\00:46:37.06 The only reference in all the Bible 00:46:37.09\00:46:38.99 on this is Matthew 27:52-53. 00:46:39.03\00:46:42.90 So if you go back to Matthew 27 00:46:42.96\00:46:44.43 and read verses 50 and 51. 00:46:44.47\00:46:45.97 Jesus has just given up His spirit on the cross, 00:46:46.00\00:46:48.57 He's died, that there's a great earthquake in the temple is, 00:46:48.60\00:46:52.24 the veil in the temple is torn from top to bottom. 00:46:52.27\00:46:55.08 And in verse 52 says, 00:46:55.11\00:46:56.78 "And then the graves were opened 00:46:56.85\00:46:58.18 and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep 00:46:58.21\00:47:00.98 were raised and coming out of the graves 00:47:01.02\00:47:03.35 after His resurrection, they went into the holy city 00:47:03.39\00:47:06.49 and appeared to many." 00:47:06.52\00:47:07.86 So there was a resurrection there, 00:47:07.89\00:47:10.56 at the time that Jesus had died with the earthquake, 00:47:10.59\00:47:13.03 and then those people who were resurrected 00:47:13.06\00:47:14.50 they appeared into the city of Jerusalem, 00:47:14.56\00:47:16.77 or they showed themselves after Jesus' resurrection, 00:47:16.80\00:47:20.24 but as right in reference to, 00:47:20.27\00:47:21.94 you know, them going to heaven with Jesus, 00:47:21.97\00:47:23.30 I can say this very clearly, biblically speaking, 00:47:23.34\00:47:26.17 there is no explicit text it says there were those 00:47:26.21\00:47:28.91 who ascended with Christ when He ascended into heaven. 00:47:28.94\00:47:31.61 There's some that go to Ephesians 4:8 where it says, 00:47:31.65\00:47:34.02 you know, he led captivity captive 00:47:34.05\00:47:36.22 when He ascended on high. 00:47:36.28\00:47:37.62 There it is. 00:47:37.65\00:47:38.99 I didn't say it's not possible and I didn't say 00:47:39.02\00:47:40.36 that there weren't people that did not ascend 00:47:40.39\00:47:42.02 when Jesus had his ascension. 00:47:42.06\00:47:43.43 But there's not an explicit text 00:47:43.46\00:47:44.86 in the Bible that says, 00:47:44.89\00:47:46.39 you know these amount of people or these kinds of people 00:47:46.43\00:47:48.30 ascended with Jesus at His ascension. 00:47:48.33\00:47:51.30 Thank you for that explanation there. 00:47:51.33\00:47:53.84 We are going to go into our bonus round. 00:47:53.87\00:47:56.87 So we've got a couple of bonus questions for you. 00:47:56.91\00:48:00.94 And I'm just gonna toss 00:48:00.98\00:48:02.31 these out there and whoever wants 00:48:02.34\00:48:03.68 to answer these questions may do so. 00:48:03.71\00:48:07.02 "When I praise God, I give Him honor. 00:48:07.05\00:48:09.78 When I thank God I give Him gratitude. 00:48:09.82\00:48:12.15 When I give God the glory I give Him what? 00:48:12.19\00:48:17.33 Go ahead. 00:48:17.36\00:48:18.69 Okay, well the text that comes to my mind 00:48:18.73\00:48:20.40 is when we give God glory, what are we giving to Him? 00:48:20.43\00:48:23.53 I think of 1 Corinthians 10: 31. 00:48:23.57\00:48:26.43 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, "Therefore whether you eat 00:48:26.50\00:48:29.14 or drink or whatever you do, I love this, 00:48:29.17\00:48:33.68 do all to the glory of God." 00:48:33.74\00:48:35.81 So do all to the glory of God. 00:48:35.84\00:48:37.65 When you give God glory, you're giving Him your all. 00:48:37.68\00:48:40.08 You are giving Him every single aspect of you. 00:48:40.12\00:48:42.42 Romans 12:1, 00:48:42.45\00:48:43.89 you know, present your bodies as a living sacrifice. 00:48:43.92\00:48:46.62 You're giving your whole self to Him 00:48:46.65\00:48:48.76 when you are giving God glory. 00:48:48.79\00:48:50.99 And I think of 1 Chronicles 16:29, it says, 00:48:51.03\00:48:54.23 "Give to the Lord the glory to His name, 00:48:54.30\00:48:59.37 bring an offering, come before Him. 00:48:59.40\00:49:01.57 Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness." 00:49:01.60\00:49:06.74 And you know, I think, to give God the glory, is to extol Him, 00:49:06.78\00:49:12.45 to magnify His name. 00:49:12.48\00:49:13.88 I think, King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4:37 says, 00:49:13.92\00:49:19.49 he says, now I Nebuchadnezzar, 00:49:19.52\00:49:22.29 who was had been 00:49:22.32\00:49:23.69 such a proud person and God had to, 00:49:23.73\00:49:26.46 you know, if you exalt yourself, 00:49:26.49\00:49:28.03 God will humble you and God had humbled him. 00:49:28.06\00:49:30.50 But now he says, "Now, I Nebuchadnezzar 00:49:30.53\00:49:33.27 praise and extol and honor 00:49:33.30\00:49:38.87 the King of heaven. 00:49:38.91\00:49:40.41 All of whose works are truth, and His ways are justice. 00:49:40.44\00:49:45.08 And those who walk in pride, 00:49:45.11\00:49:47.78 He is able to put down." 00:49:47.82\00:49:51.69 So God says in Isaiah 42:8, 00:49:51.72\00:49:56.59 I'm the Lord. 00:49:56.66\00:49:58.93 God, that's my name. 00:49:58.96\00:50:00.63 I'm not gonna share My glory with another." 00:50:00.66\00:50:03.47 In other words, He was saying, these wooden idols, 00:50:03.50\00:50:07.24 these stone idols that can't talk, 00:50:07.27\00:50:09.84 can't do anything. 00:50:09.90\00:50:11.34 If you bow down for them, if you're giving them worship 00:50:11.37\00:50:15.78 and honor and extolling their name. 00:50:15.81\00:50:20.95 You know, you're giving them the glory that's due to Me. 00:50:20.98\00:50:24.32 So I like the fact that when I give God glory, 00:50:24.35\00:50:29.76 I'm giving Him what's due Him. 00:50:29.82\00:50:34.10 Amen. Amen. 00:50:34.10\00:50:36.26 I would just add to that, I love what you said talking 00:50:36.33\00:50:39.47 about giving Him glory and honor 00:50:39.50\00:50:41.60 as far with the words. 00:50:41.64\00:50:42.97 But I would extend it into actions as well. 00:50:43.00\00:50:45.37 When I think about Exodus 33, 00:50:45.41\00:50:47.74 Moses said, "Show me your glory." 00:50:47.78\00:50:50.05 And what did God show him? 00:50:50.11\00:50:51.85 His character. 00:50:51.88\00:50:53.21 Yes. 00:50:53.28\00:50:54.62 "The Lord, the Lord gracious and long suffering and merciful 00:50:54.65\00:50:57.25 and unbounded in goodness and truth." 00:50:57.29\00:50:59.45 And so to me when we give God glory we don't just extol Him, 00:50:59.49\00:51:02.76 we don't just give Him everything. 00:51:02.79\00:51:04.93 But we actually represent His character to other people. 00:51:04.96\00:51:10.33 So by our actions, we give Him glory. 00:51:10.37\00:51:12.67 Amen. That's wonderful. 00:51:12.70\00:51:14.30 That is very well said. 00:51:14.34\00:51:15.84 Yes. 00:51:15.87\00:51:17.21 And imagine doing that in the midst of a trial. 00:51:17.27\00:51:20.38 Yes. 00:51:20.44\00:51:21.78 Amen. That's right. 00:51:21.81\00:51:23.14 I don't have to imagine it. 00:51:23.18\00:51:24.51 There we go. There we go. 00:51:24.55\00:51:27.28 Well, all right, yes, I'm glad. I'm glad. 00:51:27.32\00:51:30.39 I can't believe our time is flying by like this, 00:51:30.45\00:51:34.16 and you're probably sitting there like, 00:51:34.19\00:51:36.19 man, these were some great questions. 00:51:36.22\00:51:38.23 I want to know how to send in questions 00:51:38.26\00:51:41.03 or maybe you heard something answered, 00:51:41.06\00:51:43.40 and you have a question based on that. 00:51:43.43\00:51:46.07 Right now we're gonna show you how 00:51:46.10\00:51:47.60 you can send those questions in 00:51:47.64\00:51:49.44 and we will be right back. 00:51:49.47\00:51:52.61 If you're enjoying our 3ABN Bible Q and A, 00:51:52.64\00:51:55.78 then tell your friends, 00:51:55.81\00:51:57.48 each Monday we'll bring you a fresh program, 00:51:57.51\00:52:00.22 answering the Bible questions you send us, 00:52:00.25\00:52:02.52 using God's Holy Word to shed light on those texts 00:52:02.55\00:52:05.89 that seem difficult to understand. 00:52:05.92\00:52:08.16 To have your questions answered on a future program, 00:52:08.19\00:52:10.93 just email them to us at BibleQA@3abn.tv 00:52:10.96\00:52:16.13 That's BibleQA@3abn.tv 00:52:16.16\00:52:19.87 You may also text your questions 00:52:19.90\00:52:21.54 to (618) 228-3975. 00:52:21.57\00:52:25.57 That's (618) 228-3975. 00:52:25.61\00:52:29.31 Be sure to include your name and where you live, 00:52:29.34\00:52:31.61 and then watch 3ABN Bible Q and A 00:52:31.65\00:52:46.66
