Thank you. 00:05:44.87\00:05:46.21 Loving Lord, it's our privilege and blessing 00:05:46.24\00:05:48.04 to be able to sit before the world 00:05:48.08\00:05:51.15 that is watching and answer these questions. 00:05:51.18\00:05:54.22 Lord, we have done our homework. 00:05:54.25\00:05:56.72 But we prefer Your Holy Spirit 00:05:56.75\00:05:58.09 to communicate it in such a way that it becomes 00:05:58.12\00:06:01.59 like the Bible says, 00:06:01.62\00:06:02.96 sweet to our lips and to our hearts. 00:06:02.99\00:06:06.09 Be with each of our panelists, 00:06:06.13\00:06:07.50 our family members here 00:06:07.56\00:06:09.20 and may those who are watching and listening, 00:06:09.23\00:06:11.57 hear a word from you and give them willing hearts, 00:06:11.60\00:06:15.10 that these answers and the scriptures 00:06:15.14\00:06:16.84 will find fertile soil to Your glory and honor, 00:06:16.87\00:06:19.44 we pray in Jesus' name. 00:06:19.47\00:06:21.51 Amen. 00:06:21.54\00:06:22.88 Thank you so much, Pastor John. 00:06:22.91\00:06:24.65 We have some wonderful questions 00:06:24.68\00:06:26.01 that have come in again. 00:06:26.05\00:06:27.38 Thank you for submitting them 00:06:27.42\00:06:28.75 to our 3ABN Today Bible Q and A. 00:06:28.78\00:06:30.12 Pastor Ryan, I'm going to come to you first. 00:06:30.15\00:06:31.49 Okay? All right, sounds great. 00:06:31.52\00:06:32.85 This question here comes from Carol, 00:06:32.89\00:06:34.56 doesn't say where, but Carol is asking, 00:06:34.59\00:06:36.56 "What exactly is the great tribulation? 00:06:36.59\00:06:39.63 What will it involve, and when will it occur?" 00:06:39.66\00:06:43.47 Okay, this is a great question 00:06:43.50\00:06:44.87 in the sense that 00:06:44.90\00:06:46.23 we first have to be reminded 00:06:46.27\00:06:47.60 that the Bible proves this many times as well as history 00:06:47.64\00:06:50.14 that history repeats itself, 00:06:50.17\00:06:51.61 that there are often dual fulfillments of things 00:06:51.64\00:06:54.24 throughout the Bible, 00:06:54.28\00:06:55.61 especially in biblical prophecy. 00:06:55.64\00:06:57.75 And so when we find that term, Great Tribulation, 00:06:57.81\00:07:00.08 it's found in Matthew 24:21-22. 00:07:00.12\00:07:02.32 I'll read it really quickly. 00:07:02.35\00:07:03.69 It says, and this is Jesus 00:07:03.72\00:07:05.05 coming right after the signs of the times. 00:07:05.09\00:07:06.55 And He says this, He says, 00:07:06.59\00:07:07.96 "For then, there will be a great tribulation 00:07:07.99\00:07:09.72 such has not been 00:07:09.76\00:07:11.16 since the beginning of the world, 00:07:11.23\00:07:12.66 until this time, nor ever shall be. 00:07:12.69\00:07:14.83 And unless those days were shortened, 00:07:14.86\00:07:16.53 no flesh would be saved, 00:07:16.56\00:07:18.03 for the elect's sake those days will be shortened." 00:07:18.07\00:07:20.37 And so this great tribulation time period, 00:07:20.40\00:07:22.20 I believe there is a very clear 00:07:22.24\00:07:24.17 and this can be backed up from the Bible 00:07:24.21\00:07:25.67 dual fulfillment of this. 00:07:25.71\00:07:27.04 There was a great tribulation time period 00:07:27.08\00:07:28.81 in the Dark Ages, 00:07:28.84\00:07:30.18 that 1260 year time period 00:07:30.21\00:07:32.75 in which that papal power reigns supreme. 00:07:32.78\00:07:35.82 Now, here's what's interesting 00:07:35.85\00:07:37.19 is the Bible makes it very clear, 00:07:37.25\00:07:38.59 there's another even greater tribulation time period 00:07:38.62\00:07:41.82 at the very end of time. 00:07:41.86\00:07:43.59 You can find support for this in Scripture. 00:07:43.63\00:07:45.26 For instance, 00:07:45.29\00:07:46.63 the soul is crying out from the altar 00:07:46.66\00:07:47.96 in Revelation Chapter 6. 00:07:48.03\00:07:49.36 God makes it very clear to them 00:07:49.40\00:07:50.73 that just as they were martyred, 00:07:50.77\00:07:53.34 and they shed their blood for Christ, 00:07:53.37\00:07:54.87 and so they shall sleep a little longer 00:07:54.90\00:07:56.81 until their brothers and sisters 00:07:56.84\00:07:58.24 in the future shall also die until it's completed. 00:07:58.27\00:08:01.28 And so there's another great tribulation time period 00:08:01.31\00:08:03.71 described there. 00:08:03.75\00:08:05.08 Two phases of this papal power system, 00:08:05.11\00:08:07.48 the 42 months of Revelation 00:08:07.52\00:08:09.18 that we see there in Revelation Chapter 13:3. 00:08:09.22\00:08:11.59 But then after the deadly wound is healed, 00:08:11.62\00:08:13.62 at the end, during that time period, 00:08:13.66\00:08:15.16 at the end of time, right before Christ comes, 00:08:15.19\00:08:17.49 there's another great tribulation time period. 00:08:17.53\00:08:19.86 The first one is great because of its length, 00:08:19.89\00:08:21.86 1260 years. 00:08:21.90\00:08:23.47 The second one is great 00:08:23.50\00:08:24.83 because of its global intensity. 00:08:24.87\00:08:27.10 So we have to be very, very clear, 00:08:27.14\00:08:28.47 the Great Tribulation time period 00:08:28.50\00:08:30.11 that's going to be at the end of the world 00:08:30.14\00:08:31.71 that we have yet to see 00:08:31.74\00:08:33.07 is described very clear in Daniel 12:1. 00:08:33.11\00:08:35.61 It says, "At that time, Michael shall stand up, 00:08:35.64\00:08:37.91 the great prince who stands watch over 00:08:37.98\00:08:40.12 the sons of your people, 00:08:40.15\00:08:41.48 and there shall be a time of trouble 00:08:41.52\00:08:42.88 such as never was since then, 00:08:42.92\00:08:44.55 that there ever was a nation even until that time." 00:08:44.62\00:08:47.32 So the second part of the question here that is, 00:08:47.39\00:08:50.06 what will it involve? 00:08:50.09\00:08:51.46 Revelation Chapter 16. 00:08:51.49\00:08:52.83 Go read that, the seven last plagues 00:08:52.86\00:08:54.73 that is the great last tribulation time period 00:08:54.73\00:08:57.30 and when will it occur? 00:08:57.37\00:08:58.70 It will happen right before the Second Coming of Jesus. 00:08:58.73\00:09:01.37 Amen. Wow. Very good. 00:09:01.40\00:09:02.74 Good job. Thank you, Pastor Ryan. 00:09:02.77\00:09:04.11 Yeah. Good job. 00:09:04.14\00:09:05.47 Not much time is it, Pastor, for some of these answers? 00:09:05.51\00:09:06.84 I'm telling, it's like squeezing the toothpaste to. 00:09:06.88\00:09:09.48 Rapid fire, isn't it. 00:09:09.51\00:09:10.88 Good job. Yeah, excellent job. 00:09:10.91\00:09:12.25 Pastor John, I'm going to come to you on this one. 00:09:12.28\00:09:14.95 No name with this, but a great question. 00:09:14.98\00:09:17.09 "Is there a difference in my sins and my testimony, 00:09:17.12\00:09:20.62 when we get to heaven, our sins will be gone, 00:09:20.69\00:09:23.12 but we will still have our testimony? 00:09:23.16\00:09:25.66 Okay, yes, our sins will be gone. 00:09:25.69\00:09:27.76 The answer is yes, our sins will be gone. 00:09:27.83\00:09:30.27 Praise the Lord for that. Yes. 00:09:30.30\00:09:31.97 But we will still have a testimony. 00:09:32.00\00:09:35.20 When we are forgiven, 00:09:35.24\00:09:36.57 our sins are cleansed 00:09:36.60\00:09:37.94 and we are, our sins are forgiven 00:09:38.01\00:09:40.11 and then we are cleansed from all unrighteousness 00:09:40.14\00:09:43.31 and according to Scripture, 00:09:43.35\00:09:44.68 our sin no longer remains as a deficit against us. 00:09:44.75\00:09:48.82 A few scriptures in the Bible which we know very well. 00:09:48.85\00:09:51.75 1 John 1:9, 00:09:51.79\00:09:53.39 "If we confess our sins, 00:09:53.42\00:09:54.76 He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins 00:09:54.79\00:09:56.59 and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 00:09:56.62\00:09:59.06 Acts 3:19, 00:09:59.09\00:10:00.60 "Repent therefore and be converted, 00:10:00.63\00:10:02.70 that your sins may be blotted out. 00:10:02.73\00:10:04.83 So that times of refreshing may come 00:10:04.87\00:10:07.60 from the presence of the Lord." 00:10:07.64\00:10:09.20 That one, the blotting out is what you're concerned about. 00:10:09.24\00:10:13.48 The forgiving aspect is wonderful. 00:10:13.51\00:10:15.61 But I want that blotted out. 00:10:15.64\00:10:17.31 And the blotting out means 00:10:17.35\00:10:18.68 that we won't have to, 00:10:18.71\00:10:20.15 our sins would not be following us into the kingdom, 00:10:20.18\00:10:22.95 that there'll be any need for a future atonement. 00:10:22.98\00:10:25.85 Another one, Micah 7:19, 00:10:25.89\00:10:28.02 "He will again have compassion on us, 00:10:28.06\00:10:30.19 and will subdue our iniquities. 00:10:30.23\00:10:32.43 He will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea." 00:10:32.46\00:10:36.26 And I always like to add and put out a no fishing sign. 00:10:36.30\00:10:39.53 That's good. Praise God for that. 00:10:39.57\00:10:40.90 Jeremiah 31:34, 00:10:40.97\00:10:43.44 "No more shall every man teach his neighbor 00:10:43.47\00:10:45.54 and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' 00:10:45.57\00:10:48.88 for they all shall know Me, 00:10:48.91\00:10:50.68 from the least of them to the greatest of them, 00:10:50.71\00:10:52.51 says the Lord. 00:10:52.55\00:10:53.88 For I will forgive their iniquity and their sin, 00:10:53.95\00:10:55.85 I will remember no more." 00:10:55.88\00:10:58.19 So we're not going to look forward to our sin 00:10:58.22\00:11:00.59 coming up against us in eternity, 00:11:00.66\00:11:03.29 but our testimony will be there. 00:11:03.32\00:11:05.19 You know, we find in Psalm 107:2, 00:11:05.23\00:11:07.66 and the redeemed will have a lot of opportunity 00:11:07.66\00:11:09.63 to tell others about how they were redeemed, 00:11:09.66\00:11:13.23 Even angels desire to know what it means to be redeemed, 00:11:13.27\00:11:16.34 and they don't have that experience. 00:11:16.37\00:11:18.14 So Psalm 107:2, 00:11:18.17\00:11:19.51 "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, 00:11:19.54\00:11:21.61 whom the Lord has redeemed from the hand of the enemy. 00:11:21.64\00:11:24.78 So since we overcame by the blood of the Lamb, 00:11:24.81\00:11:27.48 we'll be able to tell that story of redemption. 00:11:27.55\00:11:29.78 Amen. Good job, Pastor. 00:11:29.82\00:11:31.52 Thank you so very much. Great answer. 00:11:31.55\00:11:34.59 This one is for you, Jill. 00:11:34.62\00:11:36.32 Good question from Phyllis, 00:11:36.36\00:11:37.69 and she lives in Wisconsin, says, 00:11:37.76\00:11:39.73 the question is, 00:11:39.76\00:11:41.10 "God said in His Word, 00:11:41.13\00:11:42.46 it is not good for man to be alone. 00:11:42.50\00:11:44.90 Why are so many of us alone, pandemic excluded. 00:11:44.93\00:11:48.67 We have no friends to speak of, 00:11:48.70\00:11:50.51 husband or Christ like people around us. 00:11:50.54\00:11:53.17 Can you please give me something scriptures 00:11:53.21\00:11:56.01 to bring us hope?" 00:11:56.04\00:11:58.18 Wow. 00:11:58.25\00:12:00.08 Phyllis, I just want you to know that 00:12:00.12\00:12:02.08 you may feel alone, but you are never alone. 00:12:02.12\00:12:06.35 There's tremendous scriptures that have hope. 00:12:06.39\00:12:08.69 I'm going to give you a few, 00:12:08.72\00:12:10.06 jot them down and you can look some of them up later 00:12:10.09\00:12:12.99 if we don't have time to go through all of them. 00:12:13.03\00:12:14.73 Isaiah 41:10, 00:12:14.73\00:12:16.06 "Fear not, for I am with you. 00:12:16.10\00:12:17.70 Be not dismayed, I am your God. 00:12:17.77\00:12:21.14 I will strengthen you, I will help you, 00:12:21.17\00:12:22.94 I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." 00:12:22.97\00:12:26.21 Isaiah 49:16. 00:12:26.24\00:12:27.71 He says, See, I have inscribed you 00:12:27.78\00:12:29.64 on the palms of My hands. 00:12:29.68\00:12:32.28 Your walls are continually before Me." 00:12:32.31\00:12:34.72 Isaiah 43:1-2, 00:12:34.75\00:12:36.92 "Now thus says the Lord who created you, O Jacob, 00:12:36.95\00:12:40.22 and he who formed you. 00:12:40.26\00:12:41.59 Do not fear, for I have redeemed you." 00:12:41.66\00:12:43.89 And it goes on to say, 00:12:43.93\00:12:45.26 "No matter what you go through, the fire or the flood, 00:12:45.29\00:12:47.50 He will be with you." 00:12:47.50\00:12:49.40 Hebrews 13:5, 00:12:49.43\00:12:50.77 He says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." 00:12:50.83\00:12:53.54 Isaiah 54:4-5 is especially good for women 00:12:53.57\00:12:57.57 who are either widowed or women who are not married. 00:12:57.61\00:13:00.84 It says, 00:13:00.91\00:13:02.38 "Your maker is your husband, 00:13:02.41\00:13:04.18 the Lord of hosts is his name. 00:13:04.25\00:13:06.95 Your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel." 00:13:06.98\00:13:09.48 Joshua 1:5, He says, 00:13:09.52\00:13:11.39 "As I've been with Moses, so I will be with you." 00:13:11.42\00:13:14.79 John 14:27, He says, 00:13:14.86\00:13:16.62 "I will give you my peace." 00:13:16.66\00:13:19.16 Now you also ask the question, why are so many of us alone? 00:13:19.19\00:13:23.13 I would say first of all, 00:13:23.16\00:13:24.93 it's not by choice for many people 00:13:24.97\00:13:26.84 because of the world of sin we live in. 00:13:26.87\00:13:28.57 God created us to be in community. 00:13:28.60\00:13:31.51 God created us to have family to be together, 00:13:31.57\00:13:35.21 to be in community. 00:13:35.24\00:13:36.58 Satan came to steal, kill and destroy, 00:13:36.61\00:13:38.45 but God came that we would have life 00:13:38.48\00:13:40.78 and have it more abundantly. 00:13:40.82\00:13:43.08 I would also say sometimes, I want to be careful with this. 00:13:43.12\00:13:46.22 But sometimes we are alone by choice. 00:13:46.25\00:13:50.26 We're so hurt or wounded 00:13:50.29\00:13:51.93 that we withdraw within ourselves 00:13:51.96\00:13:54.93 and don't intentionally reach out to other people. 00:13:54.96\00:13:58.90 Proverbs 18:24 says, 00:13:58.93\00:14:00.50 "A man who has friends must show himself friendly." 00:14:00.54\00:14:04.51 So you can't change your circumstances, 00:14:04.57\00:14:06.84 but you can change your choices, 00:14:06.88\00:14:08.78 reach out and develop friendships 00:14:08.81\00:14:10.35 with other people. 00:14:10.38\00:14:11.91 Excellent. Thank you very much. 00:14:11.95\00:14:13.55 Yeah, that's a great question. 00:14:13.58\00:14:14.92 So thank you so much for that great answer too. 00:14:14.98\00:14:17.05 Pastor Ryan, this is a follow up. 00:14:17.09\00:14:18.59 And this is to a question on a previous Bible Q and A. 00:14:18.62\00:14:21.42 This is coming from Fiona. 00:14:21.46\00:14:22.79 And she says, 00:14:22.82\00:14:24.16 "I agree with Pastor Ryan's answer 00:14:24.19\00:14:25.53 regarding jewelry, 00:14:25.56\00:14:26.90 but I don't think the question was answered 00:14:26.93\00:14:29.06 concerning wedding bands. 00:14:29.10\00:14:30.93 In biblical days how did people know 00:14:31.00\00:14:33.54 if a person was married or not? 00:14:33.57\00:14:35.64 I've observed that most SDAs don't wear wedding rings, 00:14:35.67\00:14:38.61 but how would someone know if the individual is married 00:14:38.64\00:14:41.41 without them having to say they are?" 00:14:41.44\00:14:43.61 That's a great question. 00:14:43.65\00:14:44.98 It is. She's right. 00:14:45.01\00:14:46.35 The last question we got was a dual question. 00:14:46.38\00:14:47.95 I was able to cover the jewelry part 00:14:47.98\00:14:49.32 but not the wedding band part. 00:14:49.35\00:14:50.69 So thank you so much, Fiona, for this question. 00:14:50.72\00:14:53.42 To be very clear, transparent and candid, 00:14:53.46\00:14:56.86 the Bible says 00:14:56.89\00:14:58.26 absolutely nothing about the wedding band. 00:14:58.29\00:15:00.43 I want to make that very clear 00:15:00.46\00:15:01.76 because there's some people that I've run into that 00:15:01.80\00:15:03.20 have tried to say, 00:15:03.23\00:15:04.60 you know, the Bible says 00:15:04.63\00:15:05.97 it's okay to wear a wedding band. 00:15:06.00\00:15:07.34 Well, the Bible has absolutely not one single text 00:15:07.37\00:15:09.37 in all of Scripture 00:15:09.40\00:15:10.74 where it talks about the wedding band. 00:15:10.77\00:15:13.17 Actually, if you look up the history 00:15:13.21\00:15:14.54 of the wedding band, 00:15:14.61\00:15:15.94 you'll find that it started in and got its origin 00:15:15.98\00:15:17.81 or finds its origin in ancient Egypt. 00:15:17.88\00:15:20.32 And which basically, 00:15:20.35\00:15:21.68 and ancient Egyptians believed that the ring finger, 00:15:21.75\00:15:24.32 which is the fourth finger on the left hand, 00:15:24.35\00:15:27.29 they contained what they called the vena amoris, 00:15:27.32\00:15:30.09 which is known as the vein of love, 00:15:30.13\00:15:32.43 which was closer to the heart or left, 00:15:32.46\00:15:34.46 the left side closer to the heart. 00:15:34.50\00:15:36.16 And, of course, later, the Romans adopted 00:15:36.20\00:15:37.77 this same tradition. 00:15:37.80\00:15:39.13 And, of course, it's just found its way, 00:15:39.17\00:15:40.50 even to this day. 00:15:40.54\00:15:41.87 But biblically speaking, 00:15:41.90\00:15:43.24 we can be very, very clear that 00:15:43.27\00:15:44.61 the Bible does not specifically speak 00:15:44.64\00:15:45.97 about wedding bands. 00:15:46.01\00:15:47.34 In biblical days, 00:15:47.38\00:15:48.71 if a couple came together and were betrothed or married, 00:15:48.74\00:15:51.65 is simply within their society within their community, 00:15:51.68\00:15:54.62 it was just very clear 00:15:54.65\00:15:55.98 because the weddings were public, just like ours. 00:15:56.02\00:15:58.12 And if someone, you know, wanted to know, 00:15:58.19\00:15:59.82 if someone was married, they would ask them, 00:15:59.85\00:16:01.32 you know, are you married. 00:16:01.36\00:16:02.76 It would become very clear 00:16:02.79\00:16:04.13 that the wife or the husband would say, 00:16:04.16\00:16:05.49 I'm sorry, I'm married. 00:16:05.53\00:16:07.00 And so the idea today, even in our culture, 00:16:07.03\00:16:09.16 is we have to wear a wedding band, 00:16:09.20\00:16:10.77 so that everyone around us knows that we are married. 00:16:10.80\00:16:15.77 I've been married for 11 years now, 00:16:15.80\00:16:17.71 I don't wear a wedding band. 00:16:17.74\00:16:19.07 My wife does not wear wedding band. 00:16:19.11\00:16:20.44 Pastor has been married for what? 00:16:20.48\00:16:21.81 Thirty eight. 00:16:21.88\00:16:23.21 Thirty eight years and not wear a wedding band. 00:16:23.24\00:16:24.58 And you know, this idea within our culture 00:16:24.61\00:16:25.95 that you must wear a wedding band, 00:16:25.98\00:16:27.32 so everyone around you knows that you are married. 00:16:27.35\00:16:29.35 That's just simply, 00:16:29.38\00:16:30.72 sometimes I feel like that's a cop out 00:16:30.75\00:16:32.09 just for some people 00:16:32.12\00:16:33.46 who want to wear that wedding band. 00:16:33.49\00:16:34.86 I don't think that it should be as we are, we're instructed. 00:16:34.89\00:16:36.89 And I think I usually don't use 00:16:36.93\00:16:38.26 Ellen Whites writings on this show, 00:16:38.33\00:16:39.66 because I believe in this program, 00:16:39.69\00:16:41.30 it's a Bible Q and A program. 00:16:41.36\00:16:42.70 We should always try to stick 00:16:42.73\00:16:44.07 as closest to the Bible as possible. 00:16:44.10\00:16:45.43 But many people try to say 00:16:45.47\00:16:46.80 that Spirit of Prophecy gives it, okay. 00:16:46.84\00:16:48.17 Actually, there's only one published remark in all 00:16:48.20\00:16:50.97 in her writings on the wedding band, 00:16:51.01\00:16:52.51 in which she simply states 00:16:52.54\00:16:53.88 and you can find this 00:16:53.91\00:16:55.24 in Testimonies to Ministers, Gospel, 00:16:55.28\00:16:56.61 and Gospel Workers page 180 and 181, 00:16:56.64\00:16:59.01 in which she makes it very clear 00:16:59.05\00:17:00.55 that not any circlet, or band, 00:17:00.58\00:17:02.75 or a ring of any kind should be paid 00:17:02.78\00:17:05.12 or bought for or worn in any case. 00:17:05.19\00:17:07.39 She did say in countries 00:17:07.42\00:17:08.76 where the custom is imperative, 00:17:08.79\00:17:10.36 we have no burden to condemn those 00:17:10.39\00:17:12.89 who have their wedding ring, let them wear it, 00:17:12.93\00:17:14.96 if they can do so conscientiously. 00:17:15.00\00:17:17.83 So even then, if you read that comment, 00:17:17.87\00:17:19.87 she makes it very clear that there's no need for it, 00:17:19.90\00:17:22.00 we shouldn't spend money on it. 00:17:22.04\00:17:23.64 In this case too, we speak final on the subject. 00:17:23.67\00:17:26.31 The Bible doesn't say, 00:17:26.34\00:17:27.94 you know, you should wear a wedding band. 00:17:27.98\00:17:29.44 Nowhere in the Spirit of Prophecy 00:17:29.48\00:17:30.81 does it say we should wear a wedding band, 00:17:30.85\00:17:32.45 it is a modern culture. 00:17:32.48\00:17:34.28 In certain countries, 00:17:34.32\00:17:35.65 it is imperative, it is required. 00:17:35.68\00:17:37.32 But in countries where it's not, 00:17:37.35\00:17:38.69 in this case, America in our country, 00:17:38.72\00:17:40.59 it's not required to wear a wedding band. 00:17:40.62\00:17:42.76 If you can do so conscientiously, 00:17:42.79\00:17:44.89 then go for it. 00:17:44.93\00:17:46.26 But at the end of the day, the Bible makes it very clear, 00:17:46.29\00:17:48.13 do not wear any type of adornment, 00:17:48.16\00:17:50.63 jewelry or anything like that, 00:17:50.67\00:17:52.23 you know, let it be the hidden man of the heart. 00:17:52.27\00:17:54.70 And if someone asked you are you married, 00:17:54.77\00:17:56.44 or they want to know if you're married, 00:17:56.47\00:17:57.84 they can ask you, you can just simply say, I'm taken. 00:17:57.87\00:18:00.21 I'm married. Very good. 00:18:00.24\00:18:01.88 Thank you, Pastor Ryan, 00:18:01.94\00:18:03.28 for that follow up and on the wedding band. 00:18:03.31\00:18:06.25 Pastor John, this comes from Karine 00:18:06.28\00:18:08.58 from Brooklyn, looks like New York. 00:18:08.62\00:18:11.19 "Pastor John, I would like to know if my grandson 00:18:11.25\00:18:13.49 who is eight years old 00:18:13.52\00:18:15.36 is accountable to get baptized?" 00:18:15.42\00:18:17.76 Okay, wonderful. 00:18:17.79\00:18:19.33 It's got to do with age. Eight years old. 00:18:19.36\00:18:21.33 The youngest person I've ever baptized was seven. 00:18:21.36\00:18:24.80 Okay. First and only one. 00:18:24.83\00:18:27.34 And she was a young girl in our church. 00:18:27.37\00:18:30.74 I remember. 00:18:30.77\00:18:32.37 Her parents raised her in a way that she understood. 00:18:32.41\00:18:35.11 I asked her directly, 00:18:35.14\00:18:36.75 questions that pertained to God's Word. 00:18:36.78\00:18:39.35 And so my answer to this was she was clear, 00:18:39.38\00:18:42.28 she did her baptism lessons. 00:18:42.32\00:18:45.89 And I look at her today, 00:18:45.92\00:18:47.26 she's grown up, she's now in college. 00:18:47.29\00:18:48.92 Yes. 00:18:48.96\00:18:50.29 And still maintains a walk 00:18:50.33\00:18:52.23 and the character publicly that says 00:18:52.26\00:18:55.53 she understood her commitment to Christ. 00:18:55.56\00:18:57.87 It really depends on the intellect of the child. 00:18:57.90\00:19:01.80 But the Bible does make it very clear 00:19:01.84\00:19:03.81 that the parent's responsibility 00:19:03.84\00:19:06.17 is to train up a child 00:19:06.21\00:19:07.54 in the way that that child should go. 00:19:07.58\00:19:09.78 Now the most formidable years of a child's understanding 00:19:09.81\00:19:12.85 is between birth and five years old, 00:19:12.88\00:19:16.18 when the character of that child 00:19:16.22\00:19:18.15 is molded as a tender plant. 00:19:18.22\00:19:20.76 When that child is, sees in the parents' life, 00:19:20.79\00:19:23.93 a commitment to Christ, 00:19:23.96\00:19:25.46 children tend to be more of what they see 00:19:25.49\00:19:27.40 than what they're told. 00:19:27.46\00:19:29.00 And I think that one of the reasons 00:19:29.03\00:19:30.37 why I'm making reference to this young lady, 00:19:30.40\00:19:32.17 I didn't want to make her, say her name publicly 00:19:32.20\00:19:34.10 so she doesn't feel embarrassed, 00:19:34.14\00:19:35.94 is her parent, 00:19:35.97\00:19:37.44 her parents both exemplify that kind of life 00:19:37.47\00:19:39.67 in her presence. 00:19:39.71\00:19:41.51 And so therefore, it was not saying, 00:19:41.58\00:19:44.48 do you know Jesus was not unusual 00:19:44.55\00:19:46.58 for her to say that, 00:19:46.61\00:19:47.95 but as the child 00:19:48.02\00:19:50.22 becomes more suitable intellectually 00:19:50.25\00:19:54.22 to understand what does it mean to be born again? 00:19:54.26\00:19:56.66 What does it mean to commit your life to Christ? 00:19:56.69\00:19:58.53 What does it mean to lay down sin? 00:19:58.56\00:20:00.70 Then I think that this is not something 00:20:00.73\00:20:02.40 that should be forced or should be, 00:20:02.43\00:20:04.63 a child should be hurried into. 00:20:04.67\00:20:07.07 Because there's a commitment here 00:20:07.10\00:20:08.54 that requires some intellectual understanding. 00:20:08.60\00:20:11.77 And as you give that time, 00:20:11.81\00:20:13.21 Proverbs 4:18, said, 00:20:13.24\00:20:15.04 "But the path of the just 00:20:15.08\00:20:16.41 is as a shining light that shineth more and more 00:20:16.44\00:20:18.45 unto the perfect day." 00:20:18.51\00:20:19.85 Don't rush it. 00:20:19.88\00:20:21.22 Find out where that person, that child is, 00:20:21.25\00:20:23.35 and make the commitment to Christ, 00:20:23.39\00:20:25.45 the basic elements, sin, salvation, 00:20:25.49\00:20:27.69 what it means to be born again. 00:20:27.72\00:20:29.06 Amen. 00:20:29.09\00:20:30.43 Wow. Thank you, Pastor. 00:20:30.46\00:20:31.79 Yeah, excellent answer. 00:20:31.83\00:20:33.16 And thank you for your question. 00:20:33.19\00:20:34.56 We again want to just encourage you 00:20:34.56\00:20:35.90 to submit your questions 00:20:35.93\00:20:37.27 for the 3ABN Today Bible Q and A. 00:20:37.30\00:20:39.30 You can text us at 618-228-3975 00:20:39.33\00:20:43.61 or you can always email us at BibleQA@3abn.org 00:20:43.64\00:20:47.91 And again, thank you for all the questions. 00:20:47.94\00:20:49.28 We're receiving lots and lots of questions in, 00:20:49.31\00:20:51.11 and there's a lot of fun 00:20:51.18\00:20:52.51 to go through them and look at them. 00:20:52.55\00:20:53.88 Yes, Pastor, go ahead. 00:20:53.92\00:20:55.25 Five seconds. Yes. 00:20:55.28\00:20:56.62 Baptism is to the Christian 00:20:56.65\00:20:57.99 what marriage is to the husband and wife, 00:20:58.02\00:20:59.35 a serious commitment. 00:20:59.39\00:21:00.79 So it should be understood clearly. 00:21:00.82\00:21:02.22 Yeah. Excellent. 00:21:02.26\00:21:03.59 Yeah. Thank you for that, Pastor. 00:21:03.63\00:21:04.99 Jill, this one is from Michelle. 00:21:05.03\00:21:07.36 And really this when I read this question, 00:21:07.40\00:21:10.93 it's... Boy, what a sad... 00:21:10.97\00:21:13.23 It's a serious question. 00:21:13.27\00:21:14.60 It says, "Dear 3ABN, 00:21:14.67\00:21:16.67 what happens to someone 00:21:16.71\00:21:18.04 who suffers from severe depression? 00:21:18.07\00:21:20.71 Who attempts to take his life twice by hanging 00:21:20.74\00:21:24.35 and succeeds the second time? 00:21:24.38\00:21:26.75 It's tragic. 00:21:26.78\00:21:28.25 My nephew-in-law is no longer with us. 00:21:28.28\00:21:31.09 May he rest in peace. 00:21:31.12\00:21:33.36 So the question is, 00:21:33.39\00:21:35.49 what happens if someone who suffers severe depression 00:21:35.52\00:21:38.06 and attempt suicide and successful?" 00:21:38.09\00:21:41.20 I just want to say, Michelle, that we'll be praying for you. 00:21:41.23\00:21:44.77 Our 3ABN family here, 00:21:44.80\00:21:46.43 we'll be praying for you and your family 00:21:46.47\00:21:48.24 during this time of loss. 00:21:48.27\00:21:50.77 I would say three things. 00:21:50.81\00:21:52.14 Number one, 00:21:52.17\00:21:53.51 don't torture yourself with questions. 00:21:53.54\00:21:55.68 Those are the what if questions. 00:21:55.71\00:21:57.08 If only I had recognized the signs. 00:21:57.11\00:21:59.25 If only I had reached out more. 00:21:59.28\00:22:01.38 If only I had said something different 00:22:01.42\00:22:03.25 or encouraged this person in a different way. 00:22:03.28\00:22:05.62 If only I had prayed more, 00:22:05.65\00:22:06.99 maybe they wouldn't have done it. 00:22:07.02\00:22:08.59 Don't torture yourself with the if only questions 00:22:08.62\00:22:12.16 and don't torture yourself 00:22:12.19\00:22:13.53 with the unanswerable questions. 00:22:13.56\00:22:15.73 Will I see them again? 00:22:15.76\00:22:17.10 Are they going to be saved? 00:22:17.13\00:22:18.67 Now that's the don't. 00:22:18.70\00:22:20.04 Let's look at the do. 00:22:20.07\00:22:21.40 Do trust your God. 00:22:21.44\00:22:23.71 Amen. Trust His wisdom. 00:22:23.74\00:22:25.77 Romans 11:33 says, 00:22:25.81\00:22:27.38 "Oh, the depth of the riches 00:22:27.41\00:22:29.98 both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! 00:22:30.01\00:22:32.51 How unsearchable are His judgments 00:22:32.55\00:22:35.62 and His ways are past finding out!" 00:22:35.65\00:22:38.59 Trust that our God, 00:22:38.62\00:22:40.49 your God is a God of wisdom. 00:22:40.52\00:22:42.72 Trust His patience and longsuffering. 00:22:42.76\00:22:46.13 2 Peter 3:9, 00:22:46.16\00:22:47.50 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, 00:22:47.50\00:22:50.73 as some men count slackness, 00:22:50.77\00:22:52.53 but is longsuffering to us, 00:22:52.57\00:22:55.00 not willing that any should perish, 00:22:55.04\00:22:57.34 but that all should come to repentance." 00:22:57.37\00:23:00.58 So trust His wisdom, 00:23:00.61\00:23:01.94 trust His patience and longsuffering. 00:23:02.01\00:23:04.55 Trust His love. 00:23:04.58\00:23:05.98 God demonstrated His love for us, 00:23:06.01\00:23:08.82 and that while we were yet still in sin, 00:23:08.85\00:23:12.62 He died for us. 00:23:12.65\00:23:13.99 That, of course, is Romans 5:8. 00:23:14.02\00:23:16.26 Finally trust His judgment. 00:23:16.29\00:23:19.23 Isaiah 33:22, 00:23:19.26\00:23:21.23 "For the Lord is our Judge, 00:23:21.26\00:23:23.77 the Lord is our Lawgiver, 00:23:23.80\00:23:26.87 the Lord is our King, He will save us." 00:23:26.90\00:23:30.44 Yes. 00:23:30.47\00:23:31.81 I love how the judgment of God 00:23:31.87\00:23:33.68 is connected in this verse with the salvation of God. 00:23:33.71\00:23:36.64 Amen. 00:23:36.68\00:23:38.01 James 4:12 says, 00:23:38.05\00:23:39.38 "There is one Lawgiver 00:23:39.41\00:23:40.75 who is able to save and to destroy. 00:23:40.78\00:23:42.72 Who are you to judge another?" 00:23:42.75\00:23:45.25 What's he saying there? 00:23:45.29\00:23:46.62 We judge other people, we say, 00:23:46.65\00:23:48.06 "Well, they clearly must not be going to heaven. 00:23:48.12\00:23:50.06 But yeah, this person must be going to heaven." 00:23:50.09\00:23:52.29 It's not our place to judge. 00:23:52.33\00:23:54.10 God is the righteous judge and His judgment will be just. 00:23:54.13\00:23:59.33 The third do 00:23:59.37\00:24:00.77 is to do understand that suicide is sin. 00:24:00.80\00:24:04.01 Yes, but it is not the unpardonable sin. 00:24:04.04\00:24:08.01 The unpardonable sin, of course, 00:24:08.04\00:24:09.64 is that sin against the Holy Spirit. 00:24:09.68\00:24:13.28 We know that murder is sin, 00:24:13.31\00:24:14.88 that's one of the Ten Commandments 00:24:14.92\00:24:16.38 and intentional killing of someone 00:24:16.42\00:24:18.25 that would include even yourself, 00:24:18.29\00:24:19.69 would be sin. 00:24:19.72\00:24:21.19 We also know Jesus tells us this in the Sermon on the Mount 00:24:21.22\00:24:24.26 that hatred is sin. 00:24:24.29\00:24:25.99 So this would even indicate 00:24:26.03\00:24:27.60 that thoughts of suicide would be sin. 00:24:27.66\00:24:30.37 I think about Elijah in the Bible, 00:24:30.40\00:24:32.23 he thought about suicide. 00:24:32.30\00:24:33.70 I think about Job, he contemplated suicide, 00:24:33.74\00:24:36.84 and yet both of them were forgiven. 00:24:36.87\00:24:40.14 Both of them I believe, we will see in heaven again. 00:24:40.18\00:24:44.88 So I would conclude by saying 00:24:44.91\00:24:46.31 that suicide is not the unpardonable sin, 00:24:46.35\00:24:49.25 that we need to trust the future, 00:24:49.28\00:24:53.59 the eternal future of those people 00:24:53.62\00:24:55.76 who commit suicide to God 00:24:55.79\00:24:57.43 who is our righteous loving judge. 00:24:57.46\00:24:59.53 Amen. Amen. 00:24:59.56\00:25:01.56 Thank you so very much. 00:25:01.60\00:25:03.03 What a blessing that we can trust God, right? 00:25:03.06\00:25:04.90 That's right. He knows the whole picture. 00:25:04.93\00:25:06.47 He knows everything, 00:25:06.50\00:25:07.84 and what a blessing that 00:25:07.87\00:25:09.20 we're not the judge, but God is the judge. 00:25:09.24\00:25:10.57 And I like what you had to say, just trust the Lord. 00:25:10.61\00:25:12.71 He will do what is best. 00:25:12.74\00:25:14.61 So much pain in this world. 00:25:14.64\00:25:16.88 And I want you to know, too, 00:25:16.91\00:25:18.28 you know, this is Bible Q and A, 00:25:18.31\00:25:19.65 but you know, you are in our prayers. 00:25:19.68\00:25:21.02 And we just did, 00:25:21.05\00:25:22.38 we know that many of you are in a lot of pain, 00:25:22.42\00:25:24.29 different circumstances, 00:25:24.32\00:25:25.65 we want to remember Michelle and this sad family situation, 00:25:25.72\00:25:28.62 but you are in our prayers 00:25:28.69\00:25:30.03 because you're part of our family. 00:25:30.06\00:25:31.56 Pastor Ryan, coming to you, this is from Stephanie. 00:25:31.59\00:25:34.76 She has a question pertain to Romans 14. 00:25:34.83\00:25:37.23 "Can you please provide clarity on Romans Chapter 14, 00:25:37.27\00:25:40.70 especially the first verses speaking to what can be eaten? 00:25:40.74\00:25:44.41 So I can explain it to others." 00:25:44.44\00:25:45.94 Absolutely. 00:25:45.97\00:25:47.31 Well, the first thing we have to understand 00:25:47.34\00:25:48.78 that Romans Chapter 14, 00:25:48.81\00:25:50.15 the context and the purpose of it 00:25:50.18\00:25:51.75 is not necessarily to establish a differentiation 00:25:51.78\00:25:54.55 between what is clean and acceptable to be eaten, 00:25:54.58\00:25:56.99 and what is unclean and unacceptable to be eaten. 00:25:57.02\00:25:59.65 If you read just the first few verses, 00:25:59.69\00:26:01.32 you see the context is set very clearly 00:26:01.36\00:26:03.59 as to what Paul is talking about 00:26:03.63\00:26:05.06 in this entire passage. 00:26:05.09\00:26:06.43 He's talking about disputes among brethren, 00:26:06.46\00:26:08.50 he's talking about judgment. 00:26:08.53\00:26:09.86 So notice here what it says, I'm going to start in verse 1. 00:26:09.90\00:26:12.07 This is Romans 14, beginning with verse 1. 00:26:12.10\00:26:13.57 He says, "Receive one who is weak in the faith," 00:26:13.60\00:26:15.64 notice here, "but not to disputes over doubtful things." 00:26:15.67\00:26:18.51 So he's already using the words, 00:26:18.54\00:26:19.87 just not to disputes. 00:26:19.91\00:26:21.24 Then he goes on to say, 00:26:21.28\00:26:22.61 "For one believer may eat all things, 00:26:22.64\00:26:24.01 but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 00:26:24.05\00:26:26.72 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, 00:26:26.75\00:26:30.25 and let not him who does not eat 00:26:30.29\00:26:32.32 judge him who eats." 00:26:32.39\00:26:33.82 Notice, there it is in the first context clue. 00:26:33.86\00:26:35.99 "For God has received him. 00:26:36.02\00:26:37.99 Who are you to judge another servant? 00:26:38.03\00:26:40.80 To his own master he stands or falls. 00:26:40.83\00:26:43.00 Indeed, he will be made to stand before God 00:26:43.03\00:26:46.74 is able to make him stand." 00:26:46.77\00:26:48.14 And then also, if you go a few verses down 00:26:48.17\00:26:49.57 Romans 14:10-11. 00:26:49.60\00:26:51.37 The same concept comes back up 00:26:51.41\00:26:53.07 because right after these first four verses, 00:26:53.11\00:26:55.14 he talks about one man esteems one day above another, 00:26:55.18\00:26:57.68 another man esteems everyday of their life. 00:26:57.71\00:26:59.11 People try to use that to say, you know you can, 00:26:59.15\00:27:01.65 every day is the Sabbath, every day is a holy day. 00:27:01.68\00:27:04.39 But that's not the context of what Paul's talking about. 00:27:04.42\00:27:06.76 He brings it back in verses 10 and 11. 00:27:06.79\00:27:08.86 He says, "But why do you judge your brother? 00:27:08.89\00:27:10.99 Or why do you show contempt for your brother? 00:27:11.03\00:27:13.46 For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 00:27:13.50\00:27:16.26 For it is written: 00:27:16.30\00:27:17.63 'As I live, says the Lord, 00:27:17.67\00:27:19.03 every knee shall bow to Me, 00:27:19.07\00:27:20.40 and every tongue shall confess to God.'" 00:27:20.44\00:27:21.77 So the point of Romans Chapter 14 00:27:21.80\00:27:23.91 is not to say you can eat whatever you want, 00:27:23.94\00:27:25.71 or you can go, you can observe any day as a day of rest, 00:27:25.77\00:27:28.54 or a holy day or a Sabbath day. 00:27:28.58\00:27:30.28 The purpose of Romans 14 is God is addressing 00:27:30.31\00:27:33.25 an issue that was happening in the church 00:27:33.28\00:27:34.88 and among the brethren at the time 00:27:34.92\00:27:36.25 between the Orthodox and the new Gentile Christians. 00:27:36.28\00:27:39.75 He was saying, look, stop the judging. 00:27:39.79\00:27:41.56 God is the judge. 00:27:41.59\00:27:43.02 You are not your brother's judge. 00:27:43.06\00:27:44.43 Leave it in the hands of the Lord. 00:27:44.46\00:27:46.13 And the Lord is the perfect judge, not us. 00:27:46.16\00:27:48.83 Amen. 00:27:48.86\00:27:50.20 Thank you very much, Pastor, yes. 00:27:50.23\00:27:51.80 Wish we had two hours. 00:27:51.83\00:27:53.17 It's very good answer. It's a great answer. 00:27:53.20\00:27:55.07 There's so many ridiculous issues 00:27:55.10\00:27:56.77 being disputed today 00:27:56.81\00:27:58.34 that have nothing to do with salvation. 00:27:58.37\00:28:00.14 And it can derail us and way off and left, 00:28:00.18\00:28:01.51 you know, somewhere. 00:28:01.54\00:28:02.94 Many people been derailed and distracted. 00:28:02.98\00:28:04.55 Yeah. 00:28:04.58\00:28:05.91 Pastor John, this comes from Theo. 00:28:05.95\00:28:07.38 "Genesis 3:5 says that 00:28:07.42\00:28:09.38 Adam and Eve's eyes would be opened, 00:28:09.42\00:28:12.15 knowing good and evil. 00:28:12.19\00:28:13.89 Why would one want to know evil? 00:28:13.92\00:28:15.72 Why is sin so attractive to us?" 00:28:15.76\00:28:19.86 Thank you, Theo. 00:28:19.89\00:28:21.20 Thank you, Theo, for that. 00:28:21.23\00:28:22.56 Sin appeals to our Adam nature. Okay. 00:28:22.63\00:28:25.60 But until the nature of Adam is put to death, 00:28:25.63\00:28:28.00 sin will appeal to us. 00:28:28.04\00:28:29.80 Why do certain sins appeal to certain people? 00:28:29.84\00:28:32.27 Well, that's your environmental effect. 00:28:32.34\00:28:34.38 You may be raised in a family of thieves. 00:28:34.41\00:28:36.71 Well, that'll appeal to you more than drugs. 00:28:36.75\00:28:39.61 You may be raised in a family that was an alcoholic family 00:28:39.65\00:28:42.55 that will appeal to you more than movies. 00:28:42.58\00:28:44.49 The environment of... 00:28:44.52\00:28:45.85 The environmental effect 00:28:45.92\00:28:47.26 begins to shape the way we think. 00:28:47.29\00:28:49.02 And as a man thinketh so is he. 00:28:49.09\00:28:51.13 So that's why you find today somebody might say, 00:28:51.16\00:28:53.36 I'm so glad I overcame cigarettes. 00:28:53.40\00:28:55.23 Another person might say, 00:28:55.30\00:28:56.63 I'm so glad I no longer steal, 00:28:56.67\00:28:58.57 because these are the different stumbling blocks 00:28:58.60\00:29:01.14 but sin predisposes us to be a transgressor 00:29:01.17\00:29:05.47 in any category. 00:29:05.54\00:29:07.31 And the sin itself is not the issue. 00:29:07.34\00:29:09.94 But sin on any plain can become attractive to us 00:29:09.98\00:29:14.22 based on the environment of our influence. 00:29:14.25\00:29:17.65 So why would anyone want to know evil? 00:29:17.69\00:29:20.86 I don't believe that Adam and evil wanted to know evil. 00:29:20.89\00:29:23.99 Adam's love for Eve superseded his love for God. 00:29:24.03\00:29:26.90 Never allow your love for anything 00:29:26.93\00:29:28.50 to supersede your love for God. 00:29:28.53\00:29:30.07 And that was the stumbling block for Adam. 00:29:30.10\00:29:32.37 Eve, I said the Sabbath. 00:29:32.40\00:29:34.64 I put a list together of 10 women in the Bible 00:29:34.67\00:29:37.17 that had difficulty trusting God, 00:29:37.21\00:29:38.71 and Eve was one 00:29:38.74\00:29:40.08 that just did not trust God's word. 00:29:40.11\00:29:41.44 And she went to investigate, 00:29:41.48\00:29:43.08 and found out that the devil is in the details. 00:29:43.11\00:29:44.91 Oh, yeah. 00:29:44.95\00:29:46.28 And so you got to trust God's word. 00:29:46.31\00:29:47.78 That's right. 00:29:47.82\00:29:49.15 If you distrust God and decide to go ahead 00:29:49.22\00:29:50.55 on your own investigation, 00:29:50.59\00:29:51.92 and as Paul the Apostle says, many people... 00:29:51.95\00:29:53.82 Matter of fact, Peter was talking about 00:29:53.86\00:29:55.29 how many people wrestled Paul's writings 00:29:55.36\00:29:58.09 to their own destruction. 00:29:58.13\00:29:59.96 But Romans 5:12 makes it clear that 00:30:00.00\00:30:01.53 through one man sin entered the world. 00:30:01.56\00:30:04.50 So it is important as Romans 5, Romans 6:5 and 7 00:30:04.53\00:30:08.94 talks about how to put that nature to death, 00:30:09.00\00:30:11.24 and it's through baptism. 00:30:11.27\00:30:13.11 When we are baptized, that old man is dead, 00:30:13.14\00:30:16.28 and we are no longer bound by the law of that nature. 00:30:16.31\00:30:19.85 Anyone who has died to that old nature 00:30:19.88\00:30:22.52 has been freed from attraction to any sin. 00:30:22.58\00:30:25.95 Wow. Thank you very much, Pastor. 00:30:25.99\00:30:28.72 This next question, Jill, is a rather long one, 00:30:28.76\00:30:31.73 it comes from Marshall. 00:30:31.79\00:30:33.29 Says, "Sister Jill, in a previous episode, 00:30:33.33\00:30:36.03 you mentioned John 3:5, 00:30:36.06\00:30:38.03 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, 00:30:38.07\00:30:40.67 except a man be born of water, and of the Spirit, 00:30:40.70\00:30:43.91 he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 00:30:43.94\00:30:46.07 I've been attending the Adventist Church 00:30:46.11\00:30:47.78 for 14 years. 00:30:47.81\00:30:49.21 And I've heard this verse mentioned many times. 00:30:49.24\00:30:52.21 It is inevitably interpreted as being baptized in water, 00:30:52.28\00:30:55.85 and saved slash born again in the spirit. 00:30:55.88\00:30:59.12 Previously, I had been taught that it meant being born 00:30:59.15\00:31:02.72 as a human being in water, 00:31:02.76\00:31:04.43 and being saved, born again in the spirit. 00:31:04.46\00:31:07.30 I suppose this interpretation comes from the following verse 00:31:07.36\00:31:09.96 in John 3:6. 00:31:10.00\00:31:11.60 And here's the verse, 00:31:11.63\00:31:12.97 "That which is born of the flesh, 00:31:13.00\00:31:14.34 and water is flesh, 00:31:14.37\00:31:15.70 and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit, 00:31:15.77\00:31:17.94 in the spirit." 00:31:17.97\00:31:19.34 Can you please clarify 00:31:19.37\00:31:20.71 where Adventists get their interpretation 00:31:20.74\00:31:23.18 of verse 5?" 00:31:23.21\00:31:25.48 That's a long question. It is. 00:31:25.51\00:31:26.85 Thank you very much for it though. 00:31:26.88\00:31:28.35 It's a chapter in there. Thank you for that question. 00:31:28.38\00:31:30.65 And I'm not sure I can clarify 00:31:30.69\00:31:32.52 where Adventists get their interpretation, 00:31:32.55\00:31:34.06 but I can tell you where I get my interpretation. 00:31:34.09\00:31:36.62 So if you look at verse 6, 00:31:36.66\00:31:38.66 what I want to say at the outset is John 3:6, 00:31:38.69\00:31:41.93 I do not believe is a direct parallel, 00:31:42.00\00:31:43.93 parallel to John 3:5. 00:31:43.97\00:31:47.10 If you read John 3:6, 00:31:47.14\00:31:49.47 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, 00:31:49.50\00:31:51.34 and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." 00:31:51.37\00:31:53.81 I believe Jesus is talking about what's talked about 00:31:53.84\00:31:56.41 in Galatians 3:17, 00:31:56.44\00:31:58.11 where the flesh lusts against the Spirit, 00:31:58.15\00:32:00.95 and the Spirit against the flesh. 00:32:00.98\00:32:03.05 And these are contrary to one another. 00:32:03.08\00:32:05.65 This is talking about our carnal, 00:32:05.72\00:32:07.49 sinful human nature 00:32:07.52\00:32:09.66 that struggles against the Spirit. 00:32:09.69\00:32:12.69 We see this in Romans 8:13, 00:32:12.76\00:32:14.73 "If you live according to the flesh you will die, 00:32:14.73\00:32:17.27 but if by the Spirit you put to death 00:32:17.30\00:32:19.07 the deeds of the body, you will live." 00:32:19.10\00:32:22.14 So I believe that's what 00:32:22.17\00:32:23.51 Jesus is talking about in John 3:6. 00:32:23.54\00:32:26.24 So therefore it cannot be a direct parallel 00:32:26.27\00:32:28.78 to John 3:5, 00:32:28.81\00:32:30.15 otherwise, if you were to parallel it, 00:32:30.18\00:32:32.55 in John3:5, it says, 00:32:32.58\00:32:33.92 "Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, 00:32:33.95\00:32:36.02 he cannot enter the kingdom of God." 00:32:36.05\00:32:38.09 Well, how can you be born of water 00:32:38.12\00:32:39.92 if you believe that's of the flesh? 00:32:39.95\00:32:41.29 How can I be born of the flesh and the Spirit 00:32:41.32\00:32:43.39 to enter the kingdom of God? 00:32:43.43\00:32:44.99 We just established that the flesh and the Spirit war 00:32:45.03\00:32:47.86 against each other. 00:32:47.86\00:32:50.20 So where do I get my interpretation 00:32:50.23\00:32:51.93 for that is water baptism being born of water? 00:32:51.97\00:32:55.30 John the Baptist, 00:32:55.34\00:32:56.67 we know had already preached baptism with water 00:32:56.71\00:32:59.37 unto repentance. 00:32:59.41\00:33:01.28 In John 1:26, he says, 00:33:01.31\00:33:02.98 "I baptize with water." 00:33:03.01\00:33:04.51 If you jump down to verse 33, 00:33:04.55\00:33:06.18 he says, 00:33:06.25\00:33:07.58 "This is He, referring to Jesus, 00:33:07.62\00:33:09.42 who baptizes with the Holy Ghost." 00:33:09.45\00:33:12.59 There we see the connection with the water baptism 00:33:12.62\00:33:14.96 combined with the Spirit. 00:33:14.99\00:33:16.89 The Pharisees, 00:33:16.93\00:33:18.26 now John 3 is all about Nicodemus 00:33:18.29\00:33:20.00 coming to Jesus by night, 00:33:20.03\00:33:21.33 and he was a Pharisees. 00:33:21.36\00:33:23.03 The Pharisees already understood 00:33:23.06\00:33:25.00 and rejected baptism by water for repentance. 00:33:25.03\00:33:29.10 We see this in Luke 7:13, 00:33:29.14\00:33:31.47 the Pharisees and the lawyers 00:33:31.51\00:33:32.91 rejected the will of God for themselves, 00:33:32.94\00:33:35.78 not having been baptized by him, 00:33:35.84\00:33:38.28 meaning John the Baptist. 00:33:38.31\00:33:39.78 So what Jesus is doing is reiterating 00:33:39.81\00:33:42.58 the importance of this outward water baptism, 00:33:42.62\00:33:45.55 which Nicodemus has already understood very clearly. 00:33:45.59\00:33:48.39 And then he's coupling that 00:33:48.42\00:33:49.82 with the importance of the inward Spirit baptism. 00:33:49.86\00:33:54.93 Thank you. Yeah, very good. God job. 00:33:54.93\00:33:56.80 That's a long question. But yeah, excellent. 00:33:56.83\00:33:58.27 Thank you. 00:33:58.30\00:33:59.63 Pastor Ryan, this comes from Shirley in Wyoming. 00:33:59.67\00:34:03.00 "I have a church brother 00:34:03.04\00:34:04.37 that is looking for the Holy Spirit, 00:34:04.41\00:34:05.91 but doesn't seem to want to use the Bible 00:34:05.97\00:34:08.98 to be shown how. 00:34:09.04\00:34:10.48 How can I help him with this?" 00:34:10.51\00:34:13.01 So I'm assuming maybe how to be filled 00:34:13.05\00:34:14.38 with the Holy Spirit is what I'm assuming. 00:34:14.42\00:34:15.78 Right. 00:34:15.82\00:34:17.15 Yeah, well, just based off the contents 00:34:17.19\00:34:18.52 of the question here. 00:34:18.55\00:34:19.89 And again, I'm not casting judgment or being critical. 00:34:19.92\00:34:21.69 This brother, I don't know his heart. 00:34:21.72\00:34:23.06 And I don't know this can you know, the situation, 00:34:23.09\00:34:25.33 extent of the situation. 00:34:25.36\00:34:26.70 But I will say that, you know, 00:34:26.73\00:34:29.90 the Holy Spirit and the Word of God 00:34:29.93\00:34:31.40 cannot be separated. 00:34:31.43\00:34:32.80 I just want to make that very clear. 00:34:32.83\00:34:34.87 For someone who wants to receive the Holy Spirit, 00:34:34.90\00:34:37.61 but they don't want to be shown 00:34:37.64\00:34:38.97 or they don't want to have any type of dealings 00:34:39.04\00:34:42.11 or connection with the Word of God. 00:34:42.14\00:34:43.95 Now that to me, that's becomes a big deal. 00:34:43.98\00:34:46.45 Because in John 16:13, 00:34:46.48\00:34:49.18 let's just talk about the Holy Spirit for a moment. 00:34:49.25\00:34:51.02 It says, however, when he the Spirit of truth, 00:34:51.05\00:34:53.56 so the Holy Spirit is what? 00:34:53.59\00:34:54.96 The Spirit of truth. 00:34:54.99\00:34:56.32 When he has come, he will guide you 00:34:56.36\00:34:57.96 into how much truth? 00:34:57.99\00:34:59.36 All truth, 00:34:59.39\00:35:00.80 for he will not speak on his own authority, 00:35:00.83\00:35:02.13 but whatever he hears, he will speak 00:35:02.16\00:35:03.57 and he will tell you all things to come. 00:35:03.60\00:35:05.40 So he is the Spirit of truth. 00:35:05.43\00:35:07.40 What is that truth of the Spirit 00:35:07.44\00:35:08.87 is coming to amplify 00:35:08.90\00:35:10.24 or to project into our hearts and minds? 00:35:10.27\00:35:12.34 John 17:17, 00:35:12.37\00:35:13.88 "Sanctify them by your truth." 00:35:13.91\00:35:16.01 This is Jesus speaking, 00:35:16.04\00:35:17.38 He says, "Your word is truths." 00:35:17.41\00:35:20.32 And then now couple that with, take what we just learned 00:35:20.35\00:35:22.85 and put that with 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12. 00:35:22.88\00:35:26.35 This is a problem with a lot of people today. 00:35:26.42\00:35:28.26 They want to follow God, they want salvation, 00:35:28.29\00:35:30.29 they want to accept Jesus, but they don't want to, 00:35:30.33\00:35:32.26 they don't want to follow the Word of the Lord. 00:35:32.29\00:35:33.63 They don't want to have anything to do 00:35:33.66\00:35:34.96 with the Word of the Lord. 00:35:35.00\00:35:36.33 Well, this is where Paul writes, he says 00:35:36.40\00:35:37.73 in with all unrighteous deception among them 00:35:37.77\00:35:39.10 who perish, 00:35:39.13\00:35:40.47 because they did not receive the love of the truth 00:35:40.50\00:35:42.14 that they might be saved. 00:35:42.17\00:35:43.51 For this reason, 00:35:43.54\00:35:44.87 God will send them strong delusion 00:35:44.91\00:35:46.24 that they should believe a lie, 00:35:46.31\00:35:48.08 and that they all may be condemned 00:35:48.11\00:35:49.81 who did not believe the truth, 00:35:49.84\00:35:51.78 but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 00:35:51.81\00:35:54.05 To reject the Holy Spirit 00:35:54.08\00:35:55.92 is to reject the author of the Bible. 00:35:55.95\00:35:57.72 And so you can't have the Holy Spirit 00:35:57.75\00:35:59.22 without the Bible. 00:35:59.29\00:36:00.69 I'm thinking of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25. 00:36:00.72\00:36:02.62 You can't have the oil without the lamp, 00:36:02.66\00:36:04.29 right, or the lamp without the oil, 00:36:04.33\00:36:05.66 they go one, and they go one with the other. 00:36:05.69\00:36:07.76 And so I just want to say here, 00:36:07.83\00:36:09.30 the best thing you can do for this brother is 00:36:09.33\00:36:11.03 pray for him. 00:36:11.07\00:36:12.40 Pray for this brother, 00:36:12.47\00:36:13.80 because if he doesn't want 00:36:13.84\00:36:15.17 to receive the testimony of the Word, 00:36:15.20\00:36:16.54 then he has no hope in receiving the Holy Spirit. 00:36:16.57\00:36:18.41 And that doesn't mean he doesn't have any hope. 00:36:18.44\00:36:20.11 Because the Lord still works miracles in hearts and minds. 00:36:20.14\00:36:22.51 If we pray for this brother, 00:36:22.58\00:36:24.08 the Lord can penetrate his heart and mind 00:36:24.11\00:36:25.85 and draw him to His Word. 00:36:25.88\00:36:27.82 Amen. 00:36:27.85\00:36:29.22 Thank you very much, Pastor Ryan, 00:36:29.25\00:36:30.59 I agree with that, can't separate 00:36:30.62\00:36:31.95 far as the Word of God, the Holy Spirit. 00:36:31.99\00:36:33.52 Yeah, amen. Excellent. 00:36:33.56\00:36:35.46 Pastor John, this is a great question. 00:36:35.49\00:36:37.53 It says, "Which is lawful to do on the Sabbath day?" 00:36:37.56\00:36:41.20 Okay. Are you ready for this? 00:36:41.23\00:36:42.86 "Go to church, attend worship and listen to sermons 00:36:42.90\00:36:45.93 or stay home 00:36:45.97\00:36:47.44 and have personal time with God 00:36:47.47\00:36:49.10 and meditate on His goodness?" 00:36:49.14\00:36:51.84 Well... 00:36:51.87\00:36:53.21 You're a pastor. 00:36:53.24\00:36:55.11 In the context of this question, 00:36:55.14\00:36:56.48 I must say, come to church. 00:36:56.51\00:36:57.85 Yeah, there you go. 00:36:57.88\00:36:59.25 Especially if you can in this day and age, 00:36:59.31\00:37:01.15 you know, we're just coming out of the COVID environment. 00:37:01.18\00:37:03.15 And for some churches, 00:37:03.22\00:37:04.55 some churches are still not open. 00:37:04.59\00:37:05.92 Praise the Lord for the lifting of a lot of these prohibitions. 00:37:05.95\00:37:08.69 But the question was 00:37:08.72\00:37:10.06 what is lawful to do good on this? 00:37:10.09\00:37:11.99 What is lawful to do on the Sabbath? 00:37:12.03\00:37:13.93 When we put a list together, 00:37:13.96\00:37:15.90 we tend to lean into salvation by works. 00:37:15.96\00:37:20.14 But if we follow the principles 00:37:20.17\00:37:22.07 that are revealed through Sabbath observance 00:37:22.10\00:37:24.21 in the scriptural establishment 00:37:24.24\00:37:26.41 of what the Sabbath is for, 00:37:26.47\00:37:28.11 then we are apt to remember, let the Sabbath be the guide. 00:37:28.14\00:37:31.18 Let God's Word be the guide. 00:37:31.21\00:37:32.81 I'll give you Isaiah 56:2, 00:37:32.85\00:37:34.98 and we're going to pull not only the actualities, 00:37:35.02\00:37:36.92 but the principles too. 00:37:36.95\00:37:38.35 The Bible says, 00:37:38.39\00:37:39.75 "Blessed is the man who does this, 00:37:39.79\00:37:41.82 and the son of man who lays hold on it, 00:37:41.86\00:37:44.93 who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, 00:37:44.96\00:37:48.00 and keeps his hand from doing any evil." 00:37:48.03\00:37:51.40 Now when you read that, it says keeps 00:37:51.43\00:37:52.80 from defiling the Sabbath. 00:37:52.83\00:37:54.64 Don't follow the Jews as an example 00:37:54.67\00:37:56.47 because they thought that spitting on the ground 00:37:56.50\00:37:58.41 or healing someone on the Sabbath was defilement. 00:37:58.44\00:38:01.11 Isaiah 58:12-14. 00:38:01.14\00:38:03.98 The Bible says, 00:38:04.01\00:38:05.35 "Those from among you, or they that shall be of thee, 00:38:05.38\00:38:07.65 shall build the old waste places, 00:38:07.68\00:38:09.52 you shall raise up the foundations 00:38:09.58\00:38:10.92 of many generations, 00:38:10.95\00:38:12.39 you shall be called the Repairers of the Breach, 00:38:12.45\00:38:14.42 the Restorers of Paths to dwell in." 00:38:14.46\00:38:16.06 And now the Bible brings a Sabbath. 00:38:16.12\00:38:18.09 Here's what it talks about as far as Sabbath observance. 00:38:18.13\00:38:21.06 "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, 00:38:21.10\00:38:23.73 from doing your pleasure 00:38:23.77\00:38:25.10 on My holy day, your pleasure," 00:38:25.13\00:38:26.50 I'll define that in a moment, 00:38:26.53\00:38:27.87 "and call the Sabbath a delight, 00:38:27.90\00:38:29.27 not a boring day. 00:38:29.30\00:38:32.07 The holy day of the Lord honorable, 00:38:32.11\00:38:33.88 and shall honor Him, 00:38:33.91\00:38:35.94 not doing your own ways, 00:38:36.01\00:38:37.78 not finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words." 00:38:37.81\00:38:41.62 Is that a challenge now a days? 00:38:41.65\00:38:43.69 "Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord, 00:38:43.72\00:38:45.19 and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, 00:38:45.22\00:38:47.96 and feed you at the heritage of Jacob your father. 00:38:47.99\00:38:50.89 For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. 00:38:50.93\00:38:52.96 "When it comes to the Sabbath, 00:38:52.99\00:38:54.30 let me just be very clear, careful. 00:38:54.36\00:38:56.67 Whatever you can do on another day, 00:38:56.70\00:38:59.10 don't do it on the Sabbath. 00:38:59.17\00:39:00.57 That's right. 00:39:00.60\00:39:01.94 Cutting grass, planting, 00:39:01.97\00:39:03.37 clean your car out. 00:39:03.41\00:39:04.74 But if someone is ill, 00:39:04.77\00:39:06.11 you follow the principles of Jesus, 00:39:06.14\00:39:07.48 He healed on the Sabbath, 00:39:07.51\00:39:08.84 He relieved suffering on the Sabbath. 00:39:08.88\00:39:10.21 Amen. 00:39:10.25\00:39:11.58 Don't say to somebody who's, can't eat 00:39:11.61\00:39:12.95 or have no way of getting to the hospital need care. 00:39:12.98\00:39:15.62 Well, I'm sorry, I'd love to take you 00:39:15.65\00:39:17.12 but it's the Sabbath. 00:39:17.15\00:39:18.49 Don't be the Pharisees on his way to the church 00:39:18.52\00:39:20.19 and goes across the street and say, you got beat up. 00:39:20.22\00:39:22.62 I'll be back. 00:39:22.69\00:39:24.03 If you're here after I'm done with the sermon. 00:39:24.06\00:39:25.53 No, let us follow the principles of Jesus. 00:39:25.56\00:39:28.20 It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. 00:39:28.23\00:39:30.50 Amen. 00:39:30.53\00:39:31.87 When it comes to cutting grass and television all that, 00:39:31.90\00:39:34.14 leave that for another day. 00:39:34.17\00:39:35.50 And lastly, 00:39:35.54\00:39:38.11 this doesn't mean that you could put sinful habits off 00:39:38.14\00:39:41.01 till after the Sabbath either. 00:39:41.04\00:39:42.38 That's right. 00:39:42.41\00:39:43.75 They shouldn't be on any day of the week, okay? 00:39:43.78\00:39:45.38 Thank you Pastor, for a little add on there. 00:39:45.41\00:39:47.98 Okay, Jill, this comes from, 00:39:48.02\00:39:50.15 well, it doesn't have a name, 00:39:50.19\00:39:51.52 but it's pertaining to Philippians 3:19. 00:39:51.55\00:39:53.29 It says, 00:39:53.32\00:39:54.66 "What does Philippians 3:19 mean 00:39:54.69\00:39:56.02 by saying the God of their belly?" 00:39:56.06\00:39:58.29 So let's read that in context. 00:39:58.33\00:39:59.66 Okay. 00:39:59.73\00:40:01.03 Let's read Philippians 3:17-20. 00:40:01.06\00:40:03.30 All right. 00:40:03.33\00:40:04.67 Philippians 3:17-20, 00:40:04.70\00:40:06.03 "Brethren, join in following my example, 00:40:06.07\00:40:07.80 and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern." 00:40:07.84\00:40:11.34 Now it really picks up in verse 18, 00:40:11.37\00:40:13.41 "For many walk, of whom I have told you often, 00:40:13.44\00:40:16.85 and now tell you even weeping, 00:40:16.88\00:40:20.02 that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ, 00:40:20.05\00:40:22.98 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, 00:40:23.02\00:40:26.25 whose glory is in their shame, 00:40:26.29\00:40:28.49 who set their mind on earthly things. 00:40:28.52\00:40:31.83 For our citizenship, by contrast, 00:40:31.86\00:40:34.56 our citizenship is in heaven, 00:40:34.56\00:40:36.46 from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, 00:40:36.53\00:40:38.87 the Lord Jesus Christ." 00:40:38.90\00:40:40.24 This section is referring to individuals 00:40:40.27\00:40:43.47 who choose themselves and the world over Christ. 00:40:43.51\00:40:48.04 I see five things real quick. 00:40:48.08\00:40:49.94 First, they reject Christ, why? 00:40:49.98\00:40:51.75 It says they are the enemies of the cross of Christ. 00:40:51.78\00:40:55.95 Number two, Christ will reject them, why? 00:40:55.98\00:40:58.65 Their end is destruction. 00:40:58.69\00:41:01.32 Matthew Chapter 7, Jesus says, 00:41:01.36\00:41:03.79 "Many will say to me in that day, 00:41:03.83\00:41:05.19 'Lord, Lord, did we all not do these wonderful things?' 00:41:05.23\00:41:07.86 And He would say, 00:41:07.93\00:41:09.23 'I never knew you, depart from Me, 00:41:09.26\00:41:11.03 you workers of iniquity.'" 00:41:11.07\00:41:13.44 Number three, it says, whose God is their belly? 00:41:13.47\00:41:15.54 That was your specific question. 00:41:15.57\00:41:17.54 It refers to people who live for the fleshly, 00:41:17.57\00:41:21.11 earthly, sensual things of life. 00:41:21.14\00:41:24.78 Reminds me of 1 John 2:16, 00:41:24.81\00:41:26.75 "All that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, 00:41:26.78\00:41:28.92 the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life 00:41:28.95\00:41:31.45 is not of the Father, but is of the world." 00:41:31.49\00:41:33.76 Number four, 00:41:33.79\00:41:35.12 they glorify the base and vile passions. 00:41:35.16\00:41:39.36 It says, "Whose glory is in their shame." 00:41:39.39\00:41:41.90 I don't know if you've ever experienced 00:41:41.93\00:41:43.37 something that should be hidden, 00:41:43.40\00:41:44.83 something that should be sinful, 00:41:44.87\00:41:48.40 and yet people glorify it and make sport of it 00:41:48.44\00:41:51.37 and make it seem like it's a wonderful thing. 00:41:51.41\00:41:54.64 Number five, they live for the world. 00:41:54.68\00:41:56.71 It says who set their mind on earthly things, 00:41:56.75\00:41:59.65 as opposed to what Paul tells us 00:41:59.68\00:42:01.55 in Colossians 3:2, 00:42:01.58\00:42:03.12 "Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth." 00:42:03.18\00:42:07.76 Amen. Thank you very much. 00:42:07.79\00:42:10.03 Pastor Ryan, this comes from Itza, 00:42:10.09\00:42:12.66 and from the state of Florida. 00:42:12.69\00:42:14.10 "Some believers say that 00:42:14.13\00:42:15.46 when you die, you go immediately 00:42:15.50\00:42:17.10 into the presence of the Lord. 00:42:17.13\00:42:19.47 What is your view on this? 00:42:19.50\00:42:21.17 What about the slain saints in Revelation?" 00:42:21.20\00:42:24.87 State of the dead in two minutes. 00:42:24.91\00:42:26.24 Here we go. That's right, Pastor Ryan. 00:42:26.31\00:42:28.58 Genesis 2:7 makes it very clear that we come into this world. 00:42:28.61\00:42:31.71 God when He created Adam, 00:42:31.75\00:42:33.08 He formed his body of the dust of the ground, 00:42:33.15\00:42:34.58 and He breathed into his nostrils 00:42:34.62\00:42:36.05 the breath of life, 00:42:36.12\00:42:37.45 then he became a living soul. 00:42:37.49\00:42:38.99 And so in that case, we're brought into this world 00:42:39.02\00:42:41.42 by a combination of the breath of life 00:42:41.46\00:42:43.63 that God gives us 00:42:43.66\00:42:44.99 which no man can really understand, 00:42:45.03\00:42:46.36 that comes from God, right? 00:42:46.43\00:42:47.76 The breath of life, and of course, our bodies. 00:42:47.76\00:42:49.76 Death is simply that in reverse. 00:42:49.80\00:42:52.03 When we die, we simply, 00:42:52.07\00:42:53.44 the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 12:7, 00:42:53.47\00:42:55.34 "The breath and the spirit of life 00:42:55.37\00:42:58.11 is parallel with each other. 00:42:58.14\00:42:59.47 It's the same thing. 00:42:59.51\00:43:00.91 And so when we die, the breath of life, 00:43:00.94\00:43:02.81 that spirit goes back to God who gave it. 00:43:02.84\00:43:06.28 And so from that point on, we sleep in the grave. 00:43:06.35\00:43:09.52 Go read John Chapter 11, 00:43:09.55\00:43:10.89 Jesus referred to death as a sleep. 00:43:10.92\00:43:12.79 We sleep in the grave until the return 00:43:12.82\00:43:15.69 or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. 00:43:15.72\00:43:18.06 In fact, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 say, 00:43:18.09\00:43:22.56 "For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven 00:43:22.60\00:43:24.40 with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, 00:43:24.43\00:43:26.63 and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ 00:43:26.67\00:43:28.34 will rise first." 00:43:28.37\00:43:29.70 There it is, so they've been sleeping in the grave 00:43:29.74\00:43:31.37 until the Second Coming, then they're going to rise. 00:43:31.41\00:43:33.11 And then it says, 00:43:33.17\00:43:34.51 "Then we who are alive and remain 00:43:34.54\00:43:35.88 shall be caught up together with them in the clouds 00:43:35.91\00:43:37.25 to meet the Lord in the air, 00:43:37.28\00:43:38.61 and thus shall we ever be with the Lord." 00:43:38.65\00:43:40.48 Now, the last part of your question 00:43:40.52\00:43:42.02 was pertaining to 00:43:42.05\00:43:43.39 what about those people in Revelation. 00:43:43.42\00:43:44.92 I believe you're talking about the souls 00:43:44.95\00:43:46.45 may be crying out from under the altar 00:43:46.49\00:43:48.12 there in Revelation Chapter 6. 00:43:48.16\00:43:50.36 This is not proof that there are people in heaven 00:43:50.39\00:43:52.39 that are somehow under the altar, 00:43:52.43\00:43:53.93 their souls or their ghosts are there, 00:43:53.96\00:43:56.46 you know, chattering and crying out. 00:43:56.53\00:43:58.37 Revelation Chapter 6. 00:43:58.40\00:43:59.73 And obviously, the Book of Revelation 00:43:59.80\00:44:01.20 is a highly symbolic book with lots of allegorical 00:44:01.24\00:44:04.77 and symbolic language 00:44:04.81\00:44:06.17 that we have to allow the Bible to interpret itself 00:44:06.21\00:44:08.44 when it comes to these symbols. 00:44:08.48\00:44:09.94 Much like when Abel was killed by Cain, 00:44:09.98\00:44:12.05 it says his blood cried out, right? 00:44:12.08\00:44:13.95 Is that to be taken literal? 00:44:13.98\00:44:15.32 No, that's obviously symbolism. 00:44:15.35\00:44:16.89 It means something, 00:44:16.92\00:44:18.25 these people, they're crying out their blood, 00:44:18.29\00:44:19.65 their lives are crying out, 00:44:19.69\00:44:21.12 because it requires justice and judgment. 00:44:21.16\00:44:23.63 And God does indeed tell them sleep for a little longer, 00:44:23.66\00:44:26.49 because there will be judgment coming. 00:44:26.53\00:44:28.53 So what happens to us when we die? 00:44:28.56\00:44:30.37 We sleep in the grave, 00:44:30.40\00:44:31.73 just as Christ said there until the Resurrection Day. 00:44:31.77\00:44:35.70 In Romans, 1 Corinthians 15:51-53, 00:44:35.74\00:44:39.64 that this corruptible 00:44:39.67\00:44:41.01 will then at that point at the Second Coming, 00:44:41.04\00:44:42.81 put on incorruption, we will be given immortality 00:44:42.84\00:44:45.65 only at the Second Coming of Jesus. 00:44:45.68\00:44:47.42 Amen. 00:44:47.45\00:44:48.78 State of the dead in two minutes. 00:44:48.82\00:44:50.95 There could be a lot more said about that, 00:44:50.99\00:44:52.65 but that's a juiced version of it. 00:44:52.72\00:44:54.06 There you go. 00:44:54.09\00:44:55.42 Pastor John, this comes from Kenya 00:44:55.46\00:44:56.83 and the name is Pokey is a person's name. 00:44:56.89\00:44:59.23 Hi, Pastor Lomacang, 00:44:59.26\00:45:01.13 "Do generational curses exist?" 00:45:01.16\00:45:04.07 The answer is yes and no. Okay. 00:45:04.10\00:45:05.90 Let me bring out a few points. 00:45:05.93\00:45:07.30 First of all, it is the parent responsibility 00:45:07.34\00:45:09.57 to raise their children to know the Lord. 00:45:09.60\00:45:12.04 And when they make the right choices 00:45:12.07\00:45:14.01 in training their children to know the Lord 00:45:14.04\00:45:16.71 and to keep His commandments, 00:45:16.75\00:45:18.65 then the parents blessing extends into the child's life. 00:45:18.68\00:45:22.88 Deuteronomy 5:29, 00:45:22.95\00:45:24.79 "Oh, that they had such a heart in them 00:45:24.82\00:45:27.86 that they would fear Me 00:45:27.89\00:45:29.22 and always keep all My commandments, 00:45:29.26\00:45:31.39 that it might be well with them 00:45:31.43\00:45:32.99 and with their children forever!" 00:45:33.06\00:45:35.10 So when a parent raises his or her child, 00:45:35.13\00:45:37.93 in the admonition of the Lord, the blessing carries on, 00:45:37.97\00:45:40.70 because they are trained in obedience. 00:45:40.74\00:45:42.60 The answer about the curse, here's the yes part. 00:45:42.64\00:45:45.41 Exodus 20:5-6. 00:45:45.44\00:45:47.01 And I'll tell you why, after I read the verse. 00:45:47.04\00:45:49.04 "You shall not bow down to them, nor serve them 00:45:49.08\00:45:51.55 for I, the Lord your God, I'm a jealous God, 00:45:51.58\00:45:53.55 visiting the iniquity of the fathers 00:45:53.58\00:45:55.42 unto the children to the third and fourth generation 00:45:55.45\00:45:57.52 of those who hate me.' 00:45:57.55\00:45:59.02 That's the context. 00:45:59.05\00:46:00.46 When the parent lives a life in open rebellion against God, 00:46:00.49\00:46:04.83 that child becomes a natural hereditarial recipient 00:46:04.86\00:46:08.86 of that characteristic, 00:46:08.90\00:46:11.00 they have no fear of God whatsoever. 00:46:11.03\00:46:13.00 And I've seen some children 00:46:13.07\00:46:14.44 that have so brashly denied God in ways, 00:46:14.47\00:46:19.54 either through profanity or their lives. 00:46:19.61\00:46:22.21 You couldn't even get them to think about 00:46:22.24\00:46:23.88 being obedient to God, 00:46:23.91\00:46:25.35 and they cite their parents. 00:46:25.38\00:46:26.85 While the Lord who is a sovereign God, 00:46:26.88\00:46:29.02 He sees what that child's end is going to be. 00:46:29.05\00:46:31.52 And you find in the Old Testament, 00:46:31.55\00:46:32.99 sometimes the Lord said 00:46:33.02\00:46:34.36 about these adverse rebellious nations 00:46:34.39\00:46:35.89 wipe the whole, wipe them all out. 00:46:35.92\00:46:37.89 Father, son, children, parents, wipe them all out, 00:46:37.93\00:46:40.66 because God is sovereign. 00:46:40.70\00:46:42.26 He sees where that's going. 00:46:42.30\00:46:43.90 He knows the end from the beginning. 00:46:43.93\00:46:46.00 But now on the other part of no, 00:46:46.03\00:46:48.30 this is where the generational curses 00:46:48.34\00:46:49.80 not necessarily by default. 00:46:49.84\00:46:51.71 We have hereditary and cultivated tendencies 00:46:51.74\00:46:54.31 Ezekiel 18:20, 00:46:54.34\00:46:56.44 "The soul who sins shall die. 00:46:56.48\00:46:58.51 The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, 00:46:58.55\00:47:01.18 nor the father bear the guilt of the son. 00:47:01.22\00:47:03.55 The righteousness of the righteous 00:47:03.59\00:47:05.29 shall be upon him, 00:47:05.32\00:47:07.22 and the wickedness of the wicked 00:47:07.26\00:47:08.82 shall be upon himself." 00:47:08.86\00:47:10.79 So that is when a person 00:47:10.83\00:47:12.16 is in open rebellion directly before God. 00:47:12.19\00:47:14.66 God is not saying, you know, you're at the age now, 00:47:14.73\00:47:16.77 you can make your own choice, 00:47:16.80\00:47:18.27 but sorry, your father has put you 00:47:18.30\00:47:19.87 into default situation. 00:47:19.93\00:47:21.27 No. 00:47:21.30\00:47:22.64 Ezekiel 14:14, 00:47:22.67\00:47:24.51 "If these three men, 00:47:24.54\00:47:25.87 Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, 00:47:25.91\00:47:27.28 they would deliver only themselves 00:47:27.31\00:47:29.31 by their righteousness." 00:47:29.34\00:47:31.78 When you get to the point 00:47:31.81\00:47:33.15 where you can decide for yourself, 00:47:33.21\00:47:34.55 choice is the most, the greatest gift 00:47:34.58\00:47:38.52 that God has given to any one of us. 00:47:38.55\00:47:39.95 And that's why the Bible says, now that you get older, 00:47:39.99\00:47:42.82 now you're outside of your parent's home. 00:47:42.86\00:47:45.19 You've got to make choices about eternity. 00:47:45.23\00:47:47.13 Joshua 24:15. 00:47:47.20\00:47:48.50 Look at this, how it wraps up the whole thing. 00:47:48.53\00:47:50.83 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, 00:47:50.87\00:47:53.40 choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve." 00:47:53.44\00:47:56.40 Watch this, 00:47:56.47\00:47:57.81 "Whether the gods which your father served 00:47:57.84\00:47:59.54 who were on the other side of the river," 00:47:59.57\00:48:01.74 that's where the generational curses could have been, 00:48:01.78\00:48:03.91 "or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell," 00:48:03.95\00:48:07.15 doesn't matter what the impact is, 00:48:07.22\00:48:08.85 "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." 00:48:08.88\00:48:11.89 That's where the generational curse 00:48:11.92\00:48:14.16 can be broken. 00:48:14.19\00:48:15.52 You decide to choose to serve the Lord. 00:48:15.56\00:48:17.76 Amen. Thank you very much, Pastor. 00:48:17.79\00:48:20.50 Jill, this is our last question here. 00:48:20.53\00:48:22.36 It says, "Can you explain the verse about God 00:48:22.40\00:48:25.33 being a jealous God? 00:48:25.37\00:48:26.80 Exodus 20:5. 00:48:26.84\00:48:28.60 And when Jesus wept, John 11: 35," 00:48:28.64\00:48:31.14 and this comes from Robbie. 00:48:31.17\00:48:32.64 Thank you, Robbie, for that question. 00:48:32.67\00:48:34.01 I would say God has emotions. 00:48:34.04\00:48:35.91 We were created in the image of God, 00:48:35.94\00:48:38.58 and He made those emotions. 00:48:38.61\00:48:39.98 God can love. He can be merciful. 00:48:40.02\00:48:42.05 He can feel sorrow, compassion, hate, 00:48:42.08\00:48:44.75 now that would be for the sin, not the sinner, 00:48:44.79\00:48:46.86 and even be jealous for. 00:48:46.92\00:48:48.59 So let's read that verse in Exodus 20:5, 00:48:48.62\00:48:51.29 Pastor, just read it. 00:48:51.33\00:48:52.89 "You shall not bow down to them nor serve them." 00:48:52.96\00:48:55.00 Now, this is from the Ten Commandments. 00:48:55.03\00:48:57.73 "For I the Lord your God, I'm a jealous God 00:48:57.77\00:49:00.60 visiting the iniquities of the fathers 00:49:00.64\00:49:02.17 upon the children to the third and fourth generation 00:49:02.20\00:49:04.34 of those who hate Me." 00:49:04.37\00:49:05.71 So what does that word jealous mean? 00:49:05.74\00:49:07.14 It's used six times in the Old Testament, 00:49:07.18\00:49:10.01 that word jealous, that particular Hebrew word, 00:49:10.05\00:49:12.38 and it always refers to God. 00:49:12.41\00:49:14.92 I thought that jealousy was a sinful emotion. 00:49:14.95\00:49:18.39 Sinful jealousy is being jealous 00:49:18.42\00:49:20.82 of someone or something, 00:49:20.86\00:49:23.09 is jealous of something you don't have, 00:49:23.12\00:49:25.19 for instance, someone's spouse, 00:49:25.23\00:49:27.40 well, you're not married to that person, 00:49:27.46\00:49:28.76 but you're jealous of them 00:49:28.80\00:49:30.13 or jealous of their home or their gifts 00:49:30.20\00:49:31.93 or their position or their money. 00:49:31.97\00:49:34.50 Sinful jealousy is jealousy of something that you and I, 00:49:34.54\00:49:38.57 we don't possess but we wish we had. 00:49:38.61\00:49:41.84 Godly jealousy is jealous for. 00:49:41.88\00:49:45.58 God is jealous for us because we belong to Him. 00:49:45.61\00:49:50.22 Nothing can supersede His place of affection 00:49:50.25\00:49:53.09 in our hearts. 00:49:53.12\00:49:54.46 God wants nothing between us and Him. 00:49:54.49\00:49:56.49 It's like the love of a husband for a wife. 00:49:56.56\00:49:58.99 2 Corinthians 11:2, 00:49:59.03\00:50:02.13 "I am jealous for you with godly jealousy, 00:50:02.16\00:50:04.70 for I betroth you to one husband, 00:50:04.73\00:50:06.74 so that to Christ that might present you 00:50:06.77\00:50:08.70 as a pure virgin." 00:50:08.74\00:50:10.51 Now what about the other verse you referenced, 00:50:10.54\00:50:12.54 Jesus wept, the shortest verse in the Bible, 00:50:12.57\00:50:15.18 John 11:35. 00:50:15.21\00:50:16.58 Now, of course, this is in the context 00:50:16.64\00:50:18.35 of Lazarus's death. 00:50:18.38\00:50:21.08 Of course, we can say that Jesus felt sorrow 00:50:21.12\00:50:23.89 because they were His friends. 00:50:23.92\00:50:25.45 But I believe even deeper, 00:50:25.49\00:50:26.89 He was grieved at their hard heartedness 00:50:26.96\00:50:30.03 and inability to understand His mission. 00:50:30.06\00:50:34.73 So what we see from these passages 00:50:34.76\00:50:36.26 and many other is that 00:50:36.33\00:50:37.67 our God feels things deeply, 00:50:37.70\00:50:40.30 and that our God loves us. 00:50:40.34\00:50:41.90 Amen. 00:50:41.94\00:50:43.27 Thank you very, very much. Nice. 00:50:43.30\00:50:44.64 And I said that was the last question. 00:50:44.67\00:50:46.01 But I think we've got about a minute or so. 00:50:46.04\00:50:48.11 Should we hit one of these other extra questions, 00:50:48.14\00:50:49.84 throw it on the table. 00:50:49.91\00:50:51.25 Okay. What about this one? 00:50:51.28\00:50:52.61 "Were Adam and Eve here on this earth first, 00:50:52.65\00:50:55.42 or was Satan cast down first." 00:50:55.45\00:50:56.95 This comes from Terry. Can we do that very quickly? 00:50:56.99\00:50:59.22 Okay, Pastor. 00:50:59.25\00:51:00.66 According to Scripture, 00:51:00.69\00:51:02.02 the Bible is silent on the chronological order. 00:51:02.06\00:51:03.73 But here's the context. 00:51:03.76\00:51:05.53 Satan could not have tempted Adam and Eve, 00:51:05.56\00:51:08.56 except they were here. 00:51:08.60\00:51:10.23 And during the creation of the world, 00:51:10.27\00:51:11.80 you find in Genesis 3:1, or Genesis 1, 00:51:11.83\00:51:15.30 "The earth was without form and void. 00:51:15.34\00:51:17.37 Then God began creating." 00:51:17.41\00:51:19.77 My deduction to this 00:51:19.84\00:51:21.18 is when the war broke out in heaven, 00:51:21.21\00:51:22.68 it was during the creation of the earth 00:51:22.71\00:51:24.21 and then Satan was banished to the earth, 00:51:24.25\00:51:27.32 and then determined that 00:51:27.35\00:51:28.78 he would tempt Adam and Eve 00:51:28.82\00:51:30.45 to transgress against God's law. 00:51:30.49\00:51:31.85 So I see that they were here first. 00:51:31.89\00:51:33.25 Yeah, amen. 00:51:33.32\00:51:34.66 No, thank you for that. Any other thoughts? 00:51:34.69\00:51:36.02 Yeah. In agreement. Yeah. 00:51:36.06\00:51:37.39 Yeah. Okay. Very good. 00:51:37.43\00:51:38.99 Okay, so we're almost out of time here. 00:51:39.03\00:51:40.56 What we're going to do is 00:51:40.60\00:51:41.90 take actually a really quick break, 00:51:41.93\00:51:43.30 then we'll be right back with some closing thoughts. 00:51:43.33\00:51:45.80 If you're enjoying our 3ABN Bible Q and A, 00:51:47.37\00:51:50.27 then tell your friends. 00:51:50.34\00:51:51.77 Each Monday we'll bring you a fresh program, 00:51:51.81\00:51:54.24 answering the Bible questions you send us 00:51:54.28\00:51:56.58 and we'll use God's Holy Word to shed light on those texts 00:51:56.61\00:51:59.68 that seem difficult to understand. 00:51:59.75\00:52:02.05 If you would like your questions answered 00:52:02.08\00:52:03.85 on an upcoming program, 00:52:03.89\00:52:05.32 just email them to us. 00:52:05.35\00:52:06.92 Our email address is BibleQA@3abn.org 00:52:06.96\00:52:11.63 That's BibleQA@3abn.org 00:52:11.66\00:52:16.33 You can also text us your questions 00:52:16.36\00:52:18.17 by sending them to (618) 228-3975. 00:52:18.20\00:52:22.77 That number again is (618) 228-3975. 00:52:22.80\00:52:27.84 Be sure to include your name and where you live, 00:52:27.88\00:52:30.28 and then watch 3ABN Bible Q and A 00:52:30.31\00:52:45.33
