00:11 Hello and welcome back to 3ABN Behind the Scenes and this has been
00:15 just a praise the Lord for evangelism. 00:17 I just love these behind the scenes program because again it's talking 00:20 about what the Lord is doing through the ministry of 3ABN. 00:22 And of course we love evangelism here at 3ABN, we know you do too 00:26 because we hear from you on a daily basis here at the ministry of 3ABN. 00:30 But thank you so much for partnering with us, thank you for 00:33 helping us spread the gospel to the world. 00:36 What's so amazing to me, Jill and I comment and talk about this often 00:40 and that is even when we're sleeping at night, when we're doing 00:43 programs like this, when we're doing just our maybe work on the 00:46 weekend, going to church on Sabbath, the message of 3ABN which 00:50 is the Bible message is going around the world reaching and 00:54 touching lives that we will never know all those people until 00:57 eternity. 00:59 So thank you for not growing weary in well-doing, thank you for your 01:03 continued prayers. 01:07 significant difference for this ministry. 01:09 So I'm just excited right now to be alive at this moment in our 01:12 history. 01:15 family members and we're going to be talking all about the 3ABN the lord too. 02:17 Coming around the table we have Ian van der Valk who's a producer here 02:20 at 3ABN and your right hand man is that an accurate statement? 02:23 He's the boss. 02:25 The assistant coordinator for S.A .D. 02:27 and of course Angela your wife works with you with that too but 02:30 glad you're here tonight. 02:31 Amen thank you for being here. 02:32 I'm really excited this past S.A.D. 02:34 was just it was such a blessing and to be able to talk about it and 02:38 just you know the things that we've experienced as staff and you know 02:41 how we saw the the students react to it I'm just excited I'm ready to 02:44 go. 02:49 day a week in pastoral department as well so you might call and you 02:53 might get Ian to pray with you one of these times depending on what 02:56 day it is of course but I'm so grateful sometimes at 3ABN we wear 03:00 a lot different hats and we function within different 03:03 departments and praise the Lord that he equips each one. 03:06 I just want to reference Pastor James Rafferty and his wife Reese 03:10 who are an integral part of the S.A .D. 03:12 program as well. 03:14 They're not here tonight but that doesn't mean that they weren't an 03:17 important part and did an incredible job as well. 03:21 Amen no absolutely and I also want to mention this too that talking 03:24 about like prayer lines in the pastoral department that the know, I'm thinking this evening also about the ministry of 3ABN. 04:11 In November of this year, it's going to be 40 years since Danny 04:15 Felden pressed to the Lord to start a ministry such as 3ABN. 04:18 And I'm thinking about all the years, all through the years of 04:20 God's faithfulness. 04:22 You know, God is faithful. 04:24 God is faithful to his ministry. 04:25 God is faithful to you as an individual. 04:27 Never forget that. 04:28 You're here on this earth for a reason and a purpose. 04:31 God has a work for you to do. 04:33 Sometimes we gauge work like, well this is so small and that's so big. 04:36 You know what, that's not how God looks at it. 04:38 Everything that he has for us to do is a big deal, right? 04:41 One soul for eternity, that's a big deal. 04:44 So never forget that. 04:48 about a song too that Jared and Hilary Mitchell did. 04:51 This is a nice segue. 04:52 Well, just thinking about God's faithfulness to us, to ministry, to 04:55 you at home, thinking about the song that they had did. 04:58 And I know the crew is getting that together for us. 05:00 So let's go to that song that they did. 05:02 Great is your faithfulness. 05:17 Great is thy faithfulness O God my Father There is no shadow of 05:31 turning with thee Thou changest not thy compassions They fail not as 05:47 thou hast been 05:55 Great is thy faithfulness, Great is thy faithfulness, Morning by 06:08 morning, New mercies I see, And all I have needed thy hand hath 06:23 provided. 06:26 There it is, thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. 06:42 Summer and winter and springtime and harvest. 06:53 The moon and stars in their courses above. 07:02 Join with all nature in manifold witness. 07:11 To thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. 07:22 Great is thy faithfulness, great is thy faithfulness. 07:31 Morning by morning, mercies I see. 07:41 And all I have needed thy hand hath provided. 07:51 Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. 08:00 All I 08:06 have needed thy hand hath 08:14 provided. 08:16 Great is thy faithfulness, great is thy faithfulness. 08:23 Great is thy 08:31 faithfulness, Lord unto me. 08:57 Wow, amen. 08:58 Thank you so very much, Jared and Hilary Mitchell. 09:02 And of course, Tim Parton at the piano. 09:03 What a blessing and what a great song. 09:05 Great is God's faithfulness to each one of us on a daily basis. 09:11 Praise the Lord for that. 09:11 What a message in the song. 09:12 And I know you love music, Ryan, of course. 09:14 And man, what great lyric in that song. 09:16 That song is just priceless and timeless and just fully expresses 09:21 the great gospel message of our thankfulness for what God has done. 09:27 And I love that hymn. 09:28 And of course, Jared and Hilary. 09:29 I love their harmony. 09:31 Their harmonies. 09:31 It's amazing. 09:32 And their husband and wife. 09:33 And their voices blend so well. 09:35 And so I love their ministry. 09:36 I love their voices. 09:37 Amen. 09:37 Yes. 09:38 Praise the Lord. 09:39 I mean, he's just a master at that. 09:41 It's amazing. 09:42 Praise the Lord for the music. 09:43 I know this may not be... 09:45 Well, Tim, it's like the older he gets, the better he gets. 09:49 I really believe that. 09:50 And I'm not saying that to be... 09:51 I really do believe that because I've had the privilege of working 09:54 with him for six years now. 09:56 And, you know, you could say to some people, you know, maybe 09:58 they're as they get up in age, and I'm not saying Tim's old. 10:01 I'm just saying some people kind of maybe lose out or, you know, 10:03 they're not as quick. 10:05 And Tim just never ceases to amaze me. 10:07 It's like the older he gets, the better he gets. 10:08 He's amazing. 10:09 Incredible talent. 10:10 Incredible talent. 10:11 He communicates well. 10:13 It's not just the talent, but it's the communication. 10:15 It's the heart for God that comes through. 10:18 So praise the Lord. 10:19 We're talking about our school of discipleship, which we just 10:22 finished here. 10:24 So maybe someone's watching, and they don't know what the school of 10:26 discipleship is. 10:28 What's the school of discipleship? 10:30 And then we'll talk about what happened. 10:31 Absolutely. 10:35 program as SOD, S-O-D, which of course stands for school of 10:39 discipleship. 10:44 intensive. 10:48 one week meaning it's a little over a week that you're here on campus. 10:51 It's a full program that we put on right here on 3ABN campus. 10:55 And you're on campus for about nine or ten days. 10:58 And in that nine or ten day span of time, we have about six full days 11:03 of just very, very intense discipleship training. 11:08 And so this is a school of discipleship. 11:10 We have the great commission from Jesus Christ who says, you know, go 11:13 you into all the world making disciples, baptizing them in the 11:17 name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching 11:20 them to observe all things that I've commanded you. 11:22 So we take that commission very seriously here. 11:24 As Danny always says, the blessing is on the go. 11:27 We believe that 100%. 11:28 But there's people out there that say, you know what, I want to be 11:31 the best disciple I can be. 11:32 I want to take this gospel commission seriously. 11:35 I want to go and share my faith, and I want to be a great disciple, 11:38 and I want to make other disciples as we're commissioned. 11:40 Well, that's what the 3ABN school of discipleship is all about. 11:43 And so what we do for a period of about a week in the classroom is we 11:48 focus on various different elements of helping to educate us, to equip 11:52 us, that once we leave the school of discipleship, we can go back to 11:56 our homes. 11:57 We always need to start on our homes. 11:58 That's a major point. 12:00 That's right. 12:02 sure that the proper gospel evangelism is happening in our 12:06 homes. 12:10 be the best representatives for Christ there, and then let that 12:14 fire spread onto your church, and of course into your community, but 12:18 to do evangelism the right way in a tactful way, using the proper 12:23 principles and techniques needed to draw people to Jesus, not push them 12:28 away, not scare them away, but to draw people to Jesus. 12:30 And so we have, in this particular program, we have courses on, for 12:35 instance, the great controversy. 12:36 You know, what is this? 12:40 sometimes we can be led to misunderstand very, very important 12:44 gospel aspects of scripture. 12:46 And so we have a class on the great controversy. 12:49 We look at the health message and its importance in our overall 12:52 wellbeing as an individual, but also how that plays into our 12:56 evangelism as well, the health message. 12:58 And then we also look at how to study the Bible with Pastor James 13:01 Rafferty. 13:06 Bible, because the one, and what we generally learn is the three legs 13:09 of the stool while you're here, because we are three-dimensional 13:12 beings, right? 13:16 prayer. 13:18 And by the way, I want to back up and say each day starts with 13:20 prayer. 13:23 one that leads out to that. 13:24 Early each morning, we start every day with prayer. 13:26 So you have to have prayer. 13:27 You have to have Bible study. 13:29 That's where Pastor Rafferty comes in. 13:30 We also have an apologetic class, which gets deep into the word. 13:33 And so prayer and Bible study, and of course, the third leg of the 13:36 stool that helps everything stands properly and strong. 13:39 And that is evangelism or witnessing, sharing, letting your 13:42 light shine. 13:47 pushing information, but that we're sharing with Jesus or sharing Jesus 13:51 with others. 13:54 In a week's time, we open the fire hydrant and we just share Jesus and 13:59 all of these different elements and all of these different ways so that 14:02 when you leave here, you are super charged, ready to go back to your 14:05 home, ready to go back to your church and in your community. 14:08 And as Jesus said, if I am lifted up, draw all peoples unto me. 14:12 That's what we're doing. 14:13 We're pushing Jesus. 14:17 your church to draw others to Christ for His kingdom and make 14:19 disciples. 14:21 That was a very lengthy explanation, but it's still brief, 14:27 still kind of falls short of the overall scope of things, which 14:29 we'll discuss further. 14:31 Yeah. 14:31 Yeah. 14:32 We love saw it. 14:35 United States and we've even had people from outside the United 14:37 States attend the school of discipleship. 14:40 This is already the third session, may we call it, which is incredible 14:44 to me. 14:47 have been through and I'd be right, Ian, close to that, about forty, 14:50 forty, forty approximately, through the school of discipleship. 14:53 Amazing. 14:54 So talk to us a little bit about some of the nuts and bolts. 14:56 Maybe we want to go transition to that next, because I'm thinking 14:59 about like age. 15:00 Do I have to be a seventh day Adventist? 15:02 Can I be, you know, a teenager? 15:04 Can I come, you know, tell us some of those nuts and bolts, Ian. 15:07 See, that's one of the things that I absolutely love about the school 15:10 of discipleship is it doesn't matter your age. 15:12 It doesn't matter your denomination. 15:15 It doesn't matter your experience in the Word. 15:17 You're here to just learn about Jesus, you know, and even Ryan 15:22 brought up, there's so many different topics that are taught, 15:24 you know, from the church history and the biblical apologetics and 15:28 evangelism and studying your Bible. 15:29 But everybody that comes to the school of discipleship gains 15:33 something from it. 15:35 It's not just, you know, it's kind of like a one size fits all, really 15:39 to where, I mean, we've had some come to the class that were 16 15:42 years old. 15:43 Now they came with a parent. 15:46 So that's why we allowed those to come. 15:48 But then I think the oldest that we had was 86. 15:52 And let me tell you, the 86 year old, I spoke to her not that long 15:56 ago and she was, you know, I just kind of checked up on her just to 15:59 see how she was doing. 16:03 at Sod, I was discouraged because I didn't know why God waited so long 16:07 for me to be at a class like this. 16:10 Now this lady, she's so sweet. 16:12 I just love her to pieces. 16:14 But she was losing her eyesight. 16:16 And that's one of the reasons why she came here too, was she just 16:19 said, I wanted to see 3BN and I just wanted to be a part of 16:22 something, but I didn't know why God waited so long for now for me 16:26 to come there. 16:27 But she realized when she went back home, she completely lost her 16:30 eyesight. 16:35 school for the blind using a lot of the things that she learned here at 16:40 the 3BN school of discipleship. 16:42 I didn't know that. 16:43 That's incredible. 16:44 It was just amazing to hear how God, because she was so 16:46 discouraged. 16:49 But God just kind of lined it up. 16:51 And that's one of the things that a lot of people that come to Sod are 16:54 just wanting to know what's next for me. 16:56 Because I think often as a Christian, we go to our Sabbath 16:59 school studies. 17:00 We watch the sermons. 17:02 We get in the Word. 17:05 What am I supposed to be doing? 17:06 And a lot of people find that when they come into the school of 17:09 discipleship. 17:13 Christian walk, maybe the school of discipleship has that for you. 17:17 And that's kind of really what it brings. 17:19 It's really a one size fits all. 17:21 It doesn't matter age. 17:22 It doesn't matter your experience. 17:24 We've had lay pastors. 17:25 We have some, even in our last class that said that they had been 17:29 a Christian raised in the church all their life, but never really 17:32 had a true relationship with Jesus. 17:34 And they came here wanting to find that. 17:37 And they do, because the entire time that they're here, their whole 17:41 focus is Jesus. 17:42 Yes, they're getting tools to go home with on how to evangelize, how 17:46 to disciple, how to do different aspects of discipleship. 17:50 But at the end of the day, it's Jesus. 17:53 And their lives are changed because they spent the whole time with Him 17:56 in prayer early in the morning, going through the studies with each 18:00 instructor, the health message, I mean the community that it brings 18:04 too, because we also provide food. 18:07 We give breakfast and lunch, and the food was amazing. 18:09 The food was amazing. 18:11 It was really good. 18:12 It was so delicious. 18:15 Yeah, great job. 18:16 It was just amazing. 18:17 And kids got involved because it was the summer. 18:20 So the kids are getting involved, they're helping serving, and the 18:23 students are seeing this, and there's just this community, this 18:26 fellowship. 18:30 be a part of that. 18:31 So I know you asked about nuts and bolts, but that's really what it is 18:36 all about. 18:41 together, learning more about Him, and how individually that we can 18:45 serve Him, but also as a group and evangelistically. 18:51 And I'll just add my experience. 18:52 I've been through programs, I've done stuff like this, but each time 18:56 I've done sod, I sit in on the presentations and I feel like I'm 18:59 learning stuff. 19:00 So if you think I've know it, what do I have to learn? 19:04 There's something yet to be learned and it'll be good. 19:06 You know, I'm glad that you said that because I was talking to a 19:09 recent student and he's an elder in his church. 19:13 He teaches Sabbath school, he preaches as well, and he goes, my 19:17 eyes have really been opened because I thought I knew a lot and 19:20 I came here and I realized, I don't know as much as I thought I did. 19:24 But he said, it was humbling and he needed it because now it's gotten 19:28 him on fire again and just, you see that across the board where, I 19:32 mean, people are just searching and looking for, you know, Dr. Yvonne 19:36 said it in the first hour, revival. 19:38 People are looking for revival and many students that come here to the 19:42 school of discipleship find that revival in their own lives, in 19:46 their own walk with Jesus. 19:50 really. 19:55 the school of discipleship where we had, I think it was three 19:56 individuals that were not of the Seventh-day Adventist faith. 19:59 I believe one was even a pastor in a Sunday church. 20:02 And then this most recent one, we had a gentleman from the area that 20:05 had come to camping for a music hour, liked what he was hearing, 20:09 attended camp meeting. 20:10 Somebody, Pastor John, you all talked with him. 20:12 He said, sure, I'll attend school of discipleship. 20:14 And here he is and he was there for every class, I think he was. 20:18 And that's amazing too, because we know that a lot that watch 3ABN are 20:23 not Seventh-day Adventists. 20:26 of discipleship is not just for Seventh-day Adventists. 20:29 And you said, no, it's not. 20:30 It's open to anybody. 20:34 through to be accepted in the school of discipleship. 20:36 But to me, that's a powerful thing because it's about sharing Jesus, 20:40 sharing truth and the Holy Spirit convicts and does the, to me, the 20:45 harvest and the increase. 20:46 So that's a powerful aspect of a school of discipleship. 20:49 You were going to say something? 20:53 session. 20:54 What took place in that? 20:54 I was going to say too. 20:55 I enjoy talking about it and I'm involved in both the morning prayer 20:59 time and in the church history aspect of it. 21:02 And if I had to take my pick, it would definitely be the morning 21:05 prayer time. 21:10 But this morning prayer time, we say optional on there, but this 21:14 time out of 40 people, I think 90 to 95% of those, they were there 21:19 every morning on time because they did not want to miss it. 21:22 And it's not a class in the way that you think of a class where we 21:26 share a bunch of information. 21:27 So we have that one hour each morning and about one-third of it, 21:32 so about 20 minutes is a little bit of instruction and then we send 21:35 them out to practice. 21:37 Things like learning how to listen to God through His Word, learning 21:41 how to talk to God as a friend and not just as a superior, although 21:46 God certainly is superior to us, but a relationship and we deal with 21:50 confession and praying for the Holy Spirit and intercessory prayer and 21:55 we give some insight from God's Word and then support it through 21:59 Spirit of Prophecy and then we send them out individually to go put 22:03 things into practice. 22:04 If you happen to be wandering through the church at that moment 22:07 of the day, you see people out there, especially if it's outside 22:12 because it was good weather, you see all these people wandering 22:14 around, talking to God and you might wonder what's going on out 22:19 here? 22:20 There are people who are engaged in growing closer to Christ because so 22:26 many times we have a prayer experience that has kind of gotten 22:29 into a rut. 22:33 but we need to be prompted to step out into something different and 22:37 every single time so far people say that was a powerful experience and 22:42 all the stuff I learned was great, but then this is like a 22:45 foundational powerhouse that gives energy to anything that we learn. 22:51 I sure enjoy the prayer time being there. 22:54 People might say it's early in the morning, but that's the best time. 22:57 You've got nothing else on your plate, nothing else to interrupt 23:00 you. 23:04 let's talk. 23:06 I talked to several people when we were over there just saying, what 23:10 have you enjoyed or what has really ministered to you and several 23:14 people told me my favorite part was the time of prayer. 23:17 My favorite part was that time just with Jesus in the morning. 23:20 What a tremendous blessing to come before God and to spend that time. 23:25 I've got to add that I have some stuff that I use as a presentation 23:28 and we make all that available too. 23:30 I've heard from the previous saw that there are people who have 23:33 taken that information and gone back and done the same process with 23:35 their church. 23:38 Anything that we share it's not proprietary information that you 23:41 can hear it but we're not going to give it to you. 23:43 We share everything that we do. 23:45 The notes, any slides or any useful stuff. 23:49 In fact, more than we share we give. 23:52 Another thing I heard was people really resonated with the defend 24:08 your faith give us a little bit of history on yourself because some 24:11 people have begun to understand who you are because you have a 24:14 background evangelical background. 24:18 That's important to this whole defend your faith part. 24:21 I've only 24:35 been a member non-denominational church. 24:39 It was during the majority of my upbringing that I had very much a 24:44 strong exposure to other teachings, other beliefs, other foundations of 24:49 faith among other organizations 25:03 and other denominations don't teach truth, they obviously do, but God 25:07 led me to this church for reason and I believe God is leading this 25:09 church. 25:12 I'm coming with all of those other perspectives and all of those other 25:18 definitive arguments that they might come against some of the 25:21 things that we believe and you have to be able to defend 25:39 and I don't forget Chuck Holtry, my teacher, he broke us up into groups 25:45 and that part was so helpful to me and so memorable, I'll never forget 25:50 it, because it really helped me to see that, you know, there's people 25:53 out there that, maybe not everyone, there's some people just like to 25:56 argue, right, but there are a lot of people out there who are 26:00 genuinely seeking and how they learn is very much like me, I'm a 26:03 very analytical thinker, I'm not just going to believe something 26:05 that you tell me is true, I'm going to really press you to try to make 26:09 it happen. 26:12 perspective to test it and try it against the Word of God to make 26:16 sure it sticks and so once I've seen the full substantial evidence 26:20 for that and how it stands, then I'm able to make my mind of it, 26:23 okay, this is truth and that's how God brought me to the Adventist 26:26 Church and so we wanted to incorporate that with side, we've 26:29 learned and I've heard this for many years that, you know, we're a 26:31 people of the book, we're supposed to be a people of the book and so I 26:35 find that a lot of Seventh Adventists, a lot of people, no 26:37 disrespect, they know what they believe, believe. 26:40 They can tell you what they believe, but when really put on the 26:43 stands and put to the test when someone's really pressing you to 26:46 prove or to show and defend what you believe, can you do that with 26:49 just your Bible, with just your Bible? 26:52 And so, as an exercise, a part of the apologetics class, and it also 26:57 is strongly connected to our evangelism class because it's one 27:00 thing to be able to know the truth, it's another thing to be able to 27:02 share it properly. 27:09 and putting them through an exercise where we break them up 27:11 into groups, we give each group a particular topic. 27:14 It could be the Sabbath, it could be the state of the dead, it could 27:17 be hell fire, it could be the health message or the clean and 27:20 unclean conversation, whatever, there's various different topics. 27:23 We break them up. 27:26 And then whatever topic that group gets and we choose it at random, 27:30 they have to show up in class the next day or a particular day that 27:34 week. 27:36 And I'm me and my brother Dakota, when he was here the last sod 27:39 session in March, it was me and him that grilled them. 27:43 This time, it was me and Pastor Rafferty. 27:44 And so we basically take, we play the role of a non-adventist who's 27:48 really pressing them to defend why they believe this. 27:51 And we'll play various roles and put them to the test as if, you 27:55 know, because I've been in many conversations with non-adventists 27:57 and they can pull out some tricky things. 28:00 They can say some tricky things to, you know, really, really confuse 28:03 you. 28:07 to say, OK, provide a Bible answer for that. 28:10 Help bring clarity to this passage. 28:12 Help explain this in a way and really build this up so that at the 28:16 end of the day, there's a definitive answer from God's Word 28:18 on this subject. 28:20 And so out of that, yes, the class was so excited and through it all, 28:23 the end of the day, this is so helpful because really what we 28:25 learned is the vast majority as we learn, man, I needed to learn my 28:29 Bible. 28:32 and while I can tell you what some of the Adventists believe and I can 28:35 tell you that I know there's Bible text in the Bible to support that 28:39 when you're really pressed for it, you know, when, for instance, I'll 28:42 give you an example. 28:43 I would use on the Sabbath. 28:44 I would say, you know, the Sabbath is for the Jews. 28:47 Why do you Adventists think that you have to press this Sabbath 28:50 issue because that's clearly only for the Jews? 28:52 Well, somebody might speak up and say, yeah, but Jesus said the 28:55 Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. 28:58 And then I'll say, where's that text at? 29:00 And then the personal, oh, well, I know it's in there somewhere. 29:04 You see my point? 29:09 to not be able to just say what we believe, but to be able to prove it 29:11 from the Bible and give a great answer for it. 29:14 And so it was a great exercise. 29:16 We learned from it. 29:17 We grew from it. 29:18 And I think out of the, we even give an evaluation at the end of 29:21 the program for the students to give their feedback. 29:23 And I think the two programs that they said that was more helpful to 29:26 them was the prayer. 29:27 Well, it came up in, of course, the defending of the faith and of 29:30 course, many others that said that the how to study the Bible. 29:32 Everybody has their own element that really helps them. 29:35 And that's the beautiful thing about Sod is that if you're coming 29:38 for whatever reason, not everything may be specifically for you, but 29:43 there may be something in there that really will help you amplify 29:47 your relationship with Christ and equip you to go out and make a 29:50 difference for him. 29:53 come. 29:56 various issues. 29:57 And Jill and I like to come over and try to attend some of the 29:59 classes of Sod right each time. 30:01 And we're able to. 30:02 This is my first time to be able to attend one of the defending your 30:04 faith aspects. 30:05 And I realized, you know, I've been an Adventist all my life. 30:08 But as you ask some of those questions from that perspective, 30:10 you know, of how you were raised, I was like, oh, those are some 30:13 actually really good points. 30:14 I know what I believe, like you're saying, but actually to be able to 30:16 defend it, you know, in a good way. 30:18 Because again, this is not a fight. 30:19 You know, this is actually just asking great questions because 30:21 people are looking for truth. 30:23 And so that perspective that you're sharing was like, oh, I'm a little 30:25 weak here. 30:28 of those, like, that's really good or really good. 30:30 And I need to really ground myself better in that perspective. 30:33 So it's really good. 30:37 know, like church history, yeah, all the genetics. 30:40 And then you just argue just to be arguing. 30:43 And so we had we had one particular group that they did so good 30:46 answering their questions. 30:50 there. 30:52 And so I finally took to hook them to see if they would pass the test. 30:55 I just kept arguing the same point over and over and over just to see 30:58 how long they would argue. 31:00 OK, because some people just want to argue. 31:01 And so what we want to teach at SOT is not just to be able to provide a 31:04 Bible answer, but also knowing to walk away appropriately so that an 31:07 argument doesn't escalate, escalate past the point. 31:10 And so because to me, it should be done in the love. 31:12 Right. 31:15 of our brothers and sisters that are out there. 31:16 You know, in school of discipleship, there's a really neat 31:19 aspect, too, to me, is that it's not just classwork, is that there's 31:23 a discipleship aspect that you all do. 31:27 But then also you're teaching them how to be a disciple, too. 31:29 So talk to us a little bit about that, because to me, that's a 31:31 really neat aspect. 31:32 It is. 31:35 discipleship, because like Ryan, I've also attended the Amazing 31:38 Facts Center of Evangelism. 31:40 So great school, too. 31:41 Amazing. 31:45 different schools and they all have their own, I guess, niche, their 31:48 own thing that they're really good at. 31:50 But one of the things that I really love about the school discipleship 31:52 that we do is outside of the class time, every instructor and staff 31:56 member sets a side time from six o 'clock till nine o'clock at night. 32:00 And that's just one on one with that individual. 32:03 We have sign up sheets for that, you know, and the students can sign 32:07 up for whatever, you know, person that they want to speak with. 32:10 But it's that one on one time that you may not want, may not want to 32:14 necessarily say something in the class or do something in a public 32:18 setting. 32:21 need to talk to Pastor James about something or I really need to talk 32:24 to Ryan or Daniel or whoever. 32:26 Just I really need to talk to this person about or maybe get the 32:29 perspective from different things. 32:30 And it's that one on one time that you have for true discipleship 32:34 because we give you the class, we give you materials, but you also 32:38 need that one on one time that that personal interaction with from 32:42 student and staff and staff to student. 32:44 And it really, I know that that when I've talked to different 32:47 students, they said that really helped me because there are things 32:50 that I've been asking and wanting to know for decades. 32:53 And nobody's been able to really give me an answer. 32:55 And I came here and somebody was able to help me and guide me and 32:58 lead me in the direction that I really needed in that moment. 33:02 So you see lives transformed in the classroom. 33:05 You see lives transformed because of that prayer time. 33:08 But then you also see it from that one on one discipleship. 33:11 It's that, you know, that I guess holistic approach to, you know, to 33:16 the school discipleship where you're getting every little piece 33:18 that you need as an individual and as a group. 33:21 And that one on one time outside of class is a beautiful and amazing 33:25 part because you just see God at work to work. 33:28 You know, somebody will ask me a question and I'm just sitting 33:30 there. 33:32 You know, I'm not sure. 33:36 and you see light bulbs come on and just, you know, there, you know, 33:40 what may have been tears are now turned into joy and maybe even vice 33:44 versa because that joy is now turned into tears. 33:46 But that's tears of happiness and just a connection with God that 33:49 they didn't see before. 33:51 So it's just, it's an amazing thing. 33:53 I really love it. 33:54 Really love it. 33:55 You know, don't, don't take our word for it. 33:57 Right. 34:01 And by the way, none of this is, is staged or, you know, this is all 34:05 authentic footage that our good friend, Brendan Armstrong, he's the 34:09 video editor for the praise of music network. 34:11 Brandon takes that week and sits it aside and he's just following 34:14 around in different times throughout the program, catching 34:17 great footage of these individuals who are genuinely going through 34:23 this program and experiencing as it's unfolding. 34:25 And so this is a little video we put together just kind of recaps 34:28 and, and summarizes what sod is all about and through the eyes and 34:33 through the perspective of these other students from this past sod 34:37 session. 34:38 Yeah. 34:38 Okay. 34:50 I've always wanted to really learn how to dig into the Bible and be a 34:57 better Bible student. 34:58 I want to know the Bible. 35:00 I want to know God's word. 35:03 That's him talking to me. 35:05 As I've become an adult, I have been searching and trying to find 35:09 what's truth and where I stand with the Lord. 35:18 I never really thought that God was an option for me. 35:21 Being a drug addict and a prostitute, people think that's 35:25 what you'll always be. 35:26 I feel like he led me here because he knew that I would learn and hear 35:31 the right things, the things that I needed to hear. 35:36 I have gained so much from all of the classes, every single one of 35:42 them. 35:43 The staff is very generous with their time. 35:46 They are able to be here after hours when people have additional 35:52 questions, they have additional problems that they need help with. 35:55 It's been really good to have that resource and to be one-on-one with 36:01 them. 36:07 with God, to help us in our daily walk and through Bible study and 36:13 prayer and how we relate to others. 36:19 If I were to describe Sod in one word, that one word would be 36:24 fellowship, impactful, needed, intense, share, encouraging, power 36:30 -packed, spiritual. 36:34 It's such a spiritual experience. 36:36 This has been such a spiritual experience. 36:38 Everybody needs kind of a jolt. 36:40 Everybody needs to plug into the Holy Spirit and be revived. 36:44 You will meet the Holy Spirit here if you have not met him. 36:47 Go to Sod. 36:49 Make that impact in your life. 36:51 What I will leave with, the most important thing, is a stronger 36:55 relationship with God. 36:57 Don't feel like that you can't learn the Bible. 37:00 Don't feel like you can't do anything because Sod is made for 37:05 you. 37:12 Amen. 37:13 Thank you so much, Brandon. 37:14 He did an incredible job getting that together, but I love that. 37:18 Sod was made for you. 37:20 Praise the Lord. 37:22 What a gift to be able to have this intensive school, to be able to 37:25 share that with people who come in. 37:28 Share Jesus. 37:29 Share the Word of God. 37:31 Disciple, and then those disciples go out and disciple others. 37:35 So praise the Lord. 37:36 We are having another school of discipleship intensive. 37:40 Another Sod class, not this year, but in 2025. 37:46 So this will be next year. 37:47 We don't have the dates solidified yet because we're waiting on a 37:50 couple other details. 37:51 But stay tuned to 3ABN because we will be able to give you those 37:56 dates shortly. 37:57 And Ian, just talk to us about the registration process and the 38:00 website we already have for Sod and the handbook and how people can get 38:04 more information. 38:05 Absolutely. 38:08 just in case you missed it, for more information about the school 38:12 of discipleship, go to 3ABNSOD.com. 38:15 There's a whole lot more information in there. 38:18 There's a handbook that outlines much of what you're going to 38:21 encounter in class. 38:23 We give a breakdown of what a day would look like, but also just 38:28 little details that you might need to know because we do have two 38:31 different tuition options. 38:32 So you'll be able to go in there and see that because some people 38:35 might need housing and we provide the housing for you while you're 38:38 here at Sod. 38:43 hookup sites for that as well. 38:45 Some of the other things that you would want to do on our website, 38:47 you can look at our application. 38:49 Now this is something that I'm really going to stress. 38:52 Because going through the application process, this is the 38:55 one thing that I have seen hold up every single application and that 39:00 is your references. 39:01 We do ask for two references. 39:03 One of them is going to be either your pastor or head elder and the 39:07 second one would be a non-family member. 39:09 Please make sure that when you fill out this application and you put in 39:13 those references that you reach out to those references because they 39:17 may not even know that you put them there. 39:19 So reach out to them and just say, I'm signing up for this three band 39:23 school discipleship. 39:24 You should be getting an email that's going to have something for 39:27 you to fill out. 39:28 One of the other things that I've kind of written, we're learning as 39:31 we go here because this is our third one. 39:33 So there's another thing, a part of this application and references 39:36 that I'm starting to see and that is sometimes it won't go into that 39:40 person's inbox and it'll actually go to their spam folder. 39:44 So make sure that you tell that person that not only to look in 39:47 their email for their inbox, but also to look in their spam folder. 39:51 But sometimes things happen. 39:53 Technology doesn't play nice. 39:55 Please reach out to us. 39:56 We'll make sure that we get those reference forms sent to the people 40:01 that you have put on the application. 40:03 But really it's a simple process. 40:06 The only time that it makes difficult is when that's really 40:08 been holding up is those references because the application is not 40:11 considered complete and we can't really review them until we have 40:14 those references and go on from there. 40:17 Again, go to 3ABNSOD.com. 40:21 You'll be able to see the applications there. 40:23 You'll be able to read the handbook. 40:26 Read the handbook. 40:30 That's important. 40:31 It's actually interesting and I know some people who catch this on 40:34 the application. 40:35 It actually has a spot on the application that says I have read 40:39 the handbook and it lets you select it and people select it and then 40:43 they submit it and then they'll call us right back and ask us a 40:46 question that's very clearly in the handbook. 40:47 So please read the handbook. 40:49 It's not long at all. 40:53 and so it's very, very short read but it'll answer all of your 40:56 questions. 40:57 Read the handbook. 40:57 Read the handbook. 40:58 Read the handbook. 40:59 It tells you about the housing. 41:01 It tells you about the food that we provide because there's some 41:05 individuals that come here not realizing that the food that we 41:08 provide is vegetarian, sometimes vegan. 41:13 We do have some individuals that come here. 41:15 That are meat eaters and that's fine but then they don't realize 41:19 that when they come and they haven't had a vegetarian diet. 41:25 They don't know but even some that have come who are... 41:28 I've had this one gentleman he said I'm a meat and potatoes. 41:33 So there better be some and I said well we provide a vegetarian and 41:37 vegan meals and I said there's this place that you can go to and this 41:41 place you can go to that's in the area and that individual didn't go 41:46 because the food was so good. 41:49 It was just delicious and they realized wow I actually don't need 41:53 meat to survive. 41:55 You can eat vegetables and fruit and still be functional and often 42:02 times the food that we are providing helps them think in class 42:05 too. 42:10 going to say it again 3ABN S-O-D dot com read the handbook make sure 42:16 you get with your references all the information is going to be in 42:18 that handbook and but if there's something that is not referenced in 42:22 particular make sure that you reach out to us there's a contact us that 42:26 is on the website and you can send us an email and we'll get back to 42:30 you as soon as possible. 42:31 Amen absolutely you know Daniel I want to ask you this because you 42:35 know you of course are instructor School of Discipleship but you 42:38 mentioned your family some of your family attended this time but also 42:41 some of your kids also helped out with the food I know Liam did you 42:45 got your son you're an Angela's son but then your kids so to get the 42:48 whole family involved like that that's kind of special right but 42:51 it's neat to I asked your kids we were going in line because we would 42:54 you know get to eat some of the food and and I said are you tired 42:58 and they're all enthusiastic you know they're getting up early 43:01 because they're coming early in the morning when does crew call for the 43:03 breakfast for the is it like 6 like 6 30 so they're getting up those 43:07 kids they were able to participate in parts of the prayer time And you 43:11 know, thinking about that idea of family, people might read the 43:13 handbook, and then they look at some of the topics that will be 43:16 addressed, and they think to themselves, you know, I could get 43:18 that in some sermons online or some articles or books, and there's good 43:21 resources out there. 43:22 But when you come to SAAD, you join a little family. 43:25 And you get this personal touch, these personal relationships, and 43:28 by the end of the week you think have I really only known you a 43:31 week? 43:32 I feel like I've known you for a lot longer than that. 43:35 And you know, not only are you meeting with instructors, but 43:38 you're encouraging each other and you know people come with their 43:41 variety of experiences and their experience and they encourage and 43:45 strengthen each other so you know anybody who comes and participates 43:49 even for a short time because I know that you know like the kids 43:51 they're not in all the programs but they're interacting with people and 43:55 they're getting to know oh yeah that's that lady and they know her 43:59 by name and it's a good experience to be a family. 44:03 For family to be involved I think that's just great again I 44:05 appreciate what Luz did with the food and getting the kids involved 44:07 like you said this is summertime so school is out so yeah it's just 44:10 it's a great time of fellowship and I love that too Daniel the family 44:13 the family of God you know people are meeting each other then they're 44:16 going back to their homes and Ryan you talk about all these fires I 44:20 love that you saw house fires and church fires these are spiritual 44:24 fires right because God's doing a work inside of your life so going 44:27 back but then there's also a social media connection isn't that right 44:30 Ian? 44:35 other we do we have a little Facebook group so all the graduates 44:40 can stay connected and we use it for prayer requests just checking 44:43 in to see how things are doing you know how are people going we have 44:46 had you know individuals here at 3BN do little videos and just 44:50 checking in on them but really and I love how you brought in the 44:54 family aspect again because Because really, you know, we had your 44:59 family there, and then my wife and her 25 members that came along with 45:04 her. 45:05 That's awesome. 45:05 Her family. 45:06 Praise God. 45:07 I know. 45:07 Praise God. 45:08 Praise God. 45:11 And we talk about it all the time. 45:12 You know, 3ABN family. 45:13 And you at home, you're 3ABN family. 45:16 You come to Sod and you're 3ABN family. 45:18 And all these individuals, you know, just coming together and that 45:22 body of Christ that and the experiences that are, that are had, 45:27 it's just, it's amazing. 45:28 Amen. 45:28 Amen. 45:29 And I appreciate it again. 45:32 Stephanie, you're mentioning Angela, you know, those cooks, all 45:35 of Brandon, all these people that are working so hard, the audio 45:37 visual. 45:42 the scenes to make all these programs a success. 45:44 We praise God for them. 45:45 God brings us all here for such a time as this. 45:48 God has you on this earth, as we mentioned earlier, for such a time 45:51 as this. 45:51 So be encouraged today. 45:52 We believe we're living in the closing moments of our history. 45:55 And 3ABN wants to do everything we can, use every method we can to 46:01 spread the gospel message. 46:03 Sod is one of those methods. 46:04 Coming here, being trained, learning more, being discipled, the 46:09 evangelism we talked about the first hour is more of those 46:12 methods. 46:17 with other people. 46:24 family effort, a joint effort. 46:25 The Lord used Daniel to write these lessons. 46:29 And then we had different of our pastoral team look over them and 46:32 many people involved in the design and the editing process and the 46:36 proofing. 46:40 We've had it out for probably a year or so now, I think. 46:43 And there are 14 lessons in here covering incredible biblical 46:47 topics. 46:53 get more resources. 46:55 You watch a video about the topic and then you can see more resources 46:59 on our 3ABN Bible Answers website that maybe isn't covered in the 47:02 lesson. 47:08 biblical, they're easy to understand. 47:10 I just believe God called Daniel for such a time as this to write 47:13 these lessons because he has so much experience teaching Bible. 47:17 And you can see that in the way the lessons are laid out or in the 47:20 middle. 47:21 We are close to, we won't say middle, we'll say we're close to 47:25 finishing set number two. 47:27 So Daniel, I'll stop talking and tell us about set number two and 47:31 what people can find in set number two. 47:33 Set number two just picks up where set number one left off, so get set 47:37 number one. 47:42 with others so you know what's inside, which is simply saying 47:45 here's what's inside the Bible. 47:47 But set number two starts with, you won't be surprised at all, starts 47:51 with the prayer, with a relationship with God through 47:55 prayer. 47:58 just want it in our head, we want our heart connected. 48:01 And then this moves its way through the spiritual gifts and the gift of 48:06 prophecy which introduces us right to the prophetic story from Daniel 48:10 and Revelation which pinpoints the time that we're living. 48:14 And you don't have to read very far through these lessons to recognize 48:18 the prophetic stories in Daniel and Revelation are talking about today, 48:22 certainly about times in the past, but they're really talking about 48:25 today and about how do we apply it, which leads us down to the last 48:30 couple lessons. 48:34 from Revelation, but they kind of, they join hands, they work 48:37 together. 48:43 heaven and the new earth and what God has planned for us. 48:47 Now those lessons, they can stand alone. 48:49 So if you read one of them all on its own, there's everything you 48:52 need to understand, but they all link to previous lessons. 48:55 So it's good to follow the whole process from start to finish. 48:59 Then the last two lessons are commitment lessons. 49:02 Number 26 is the one about making a decision for baptism. 49:06 And this does not come at the beginning. 49:08 It comes at the end as we're completed in the process of 49:12 learning the basic truths of the Bible. 49:14 Then the final lesson of all is the commitment lesson of saying I want 49:18 to dedicate my whole life, not just in a momentary decision, but all of 49:23 myself, all of who I am, all of my time, my energy, my material and 49:28 resources. 49:29 And not that I just turn it over and say I walk away from it, but 49:32 say Lord, I'm dedicated to you. 49:33 You gave everything for me and why wouldn't I respond in like manner? 49:39 And so some of the principles about how God helps us to manage our 49:43 life, manage our resources is what's coming out in that lesson. 49:47 And it ends, it ends on the note of what has God done for you. 49:52 And we have a brief summary of all the mercies of God that we find 49:57 revealed in the Bible. 49:58 So I know people will be blessed by this. 50:01 I've been blessed by the writing of it. 50:03 No, Daniel, I believe you mentioned before that when you're writing 50:06 these lessons, you keep like this theme before you. 50:10 And that is, is it point them to Jesus? 50:11 I forget how you said, but that Jesus is the one through all these 50:15 lessons. 50:18 because sometimes when we're looking at Bible prophecy, we hyper 50:22 focus on some details or we think of beasts and we forget about 50:25 Jesus. 50:28 How is this about Jesus to keep that before my eyes as I was 50:32 working my way through that process? 50:34 So these lessons, the first set is of course, looking higher. 50:37 The second set is searching deeper because they're really getting into 50:41 more of the heavy, the prophecy topics, but still keeping Jesus as 50:46 the center and circumference of all. 50:47 They will be here in time for fall camp meeting. 50:50 That is a statement of faith because they haven't even gone 50:53 depressed yet. 50:54 We're so grateful for Safliz publishing in Spain. 50:57 They do an incredible job with the quality and putting these together. 51:00 But our plan, our goal is to have them in time for fall camp meeting. 51:04 So excited about these lessons and to be able to use them in 51:08 evangelism. 51:09 In fact, you can call the call center right now. 51:11 If you would like one of these sets, they're available online for 51:14 free. 51:15 But if you want to set, you get the envelope in all 14 lessons. 51:19 You can order 10 of them for a suggested donation of $25. 51:24 You can't even beat that. 51:25 That includes the shipping. 51:27 So you can get 10 of these complete sets for a suggested donation of 51:32 $25. 51:33 So you can call us at 618-627-4651. 51:38 That's 618-627-4651. 51:41 Or you can go to 3ABNstore.com and you can download the lessons or 51:45 order them that way as well and use them in evangelism. 51:49 They're incredible Bible studies, Ryan, aren't they? 51:52 Absolutely. 51:53 I have had the privilege of conducting small group studies, 51:56 even public meetings with Bible studies similar to this from 51:59 different organizations. 52:01 And these by far are, in my opinion, they're my favorite. 52:05 And there's a lot of great ones out there. 52:06 I know people are going to probably think, well, that's a biased 52:09 response from me, Ryan, because you're an employee of 3ABN. 52:12 But I genuinely have worked my way through these and I love the Christ 52:16 centeredness that God has led Daniel to put into this, that 52:20 they're beautifully designed and beautifully illustrated. 52:22 And to me, we need something that's modern, something that's up to 52:26 date, something that's Christ centered, not to say that none of 52:28 the other ones are, but I just these are these are perfect for the 52:31 times that we're living. 52:36 out to a young person, a not so young person, any person of any age 52:42 to be able to hand those to and to start a small group Bible study as 52:45 well. 52:48 And that was part of what was in mind as we did this that we wanted 52:52 to be able to send these out because they may not have somebody 52:55 sitting by their side to help explain things. 52:57 So on its own, they could, they can walk their way through that study 53:00 and answer the questions that come to mind. 53:02 And then that QR code on the back for those who are able, you know, 53:05 not every question can be addressed in a single lesson. 53:08 And this leads them to further answers. 53:10 But we wanted, we wanted people to be able to sit down and go through 53:14 it and understand it without having someone sitting next to them to 53:17 explain it. 53:20 somebody, make some notes in the margin because everybody is 53:23 different in the way that Ian would explain something, add some details 53:27 that are personal and reflective of who he is and how he helps describe 53:31 the word of God. 53:33 I'm so glad you mentioned the prison ministry because we have 53:35 ordered 125,000 sets of these and they're specifically designed for 53:40 prison ministry. 53:41 So the, the offers on the back would be specific for prisoners 53:46 that we can send in. 53:48 So every set, every time a prisoner orders a Bible and they say, we 53:52 send a complimentary that made it sound like we charge. 53:55 But every time a prisoner writes in and says, would you send me a study 53:58 Bible? 54:00 I want to study the word. 54:02 When we send the Bibles, we will be sending this set along with it, the 54:07 prison ministry set. 54:08 So every prisoner gets a set of these. 54:10 Amen. 54:11 I want to mention this also. 54:15 be involved in prison ministry. 54:17 Well, these special prison ministry Bible study sets are available to 54:20 you as well. 54:22 So you can, again, like Jill mentioned, call the call center. 54:23 You can ask for the pricing for the prison ministry, Bible study 54:27 guides. 54:27 We have a bunch of them. 54:31 The reason that they're a special version is like Jill mentioned, 54:33 some of the resources on the back are a little bit different, but 54:35 also there are no staples. 54:37 This took a real specialty, a binary company to do this because 54:41 there's so few pages, but to be able to glue them without stapling 54:44 them. 54:48 the prisons or jails would not allow the Bible studies to go in 54:50 because they had staples in them. 54:51 So these do not have staples. 54:53 So we have them at the call center tonight. 54:55 So if you're involved in prison ministry, know someone who is, get 54:59 a sample copy, show it to your team, get a whole bunch of them, 55:02 share them with your, whoever you're ministering to there in the, 55:04 in the prisons. 55:07 Ryan, you mentioned just briefly, just talked to us real quick about 55:10 this because you said you go out and do some evangelistic series. 55:13 And I know you like to take some of these guys with you, you know, give 55:15 them out. 55:17 Where are you at in August? 55:19 In August, August 31 to September 14, I'll be in Toledo, Ohio. 55:23 They're doing a city wide meeting. 55:25 There's going to be a very big meeting. 55:26 So if you're in the Toledo area, come join us. 55:28 And what about then in October? 55:30 And then starting in October. 55:31 And the dates are slipping me at the moment, but we can get those 55:35 later to you. 55:39 So beautiful. 55:40 So someone's in that area. 55:43 I'm assuming they'll have those dates. 55:45 So yeah, perfect. 55:45 Yeah. 55:46 Thank you so much. 55:47 All about evangelism. 55:48 That's what 3ABN is all about. 55:50 And Jill, I know we're about ready to run out of time, but I'm going 55:51 to bring this up here real quick too. 55:53 You wore this shirt recently that it's a new one that came out. 55:56 It says rest. 55:57 But on the back, check that out. 56:00 It says God gave you permission. 56:01 Well, if someone sees your back, they're like, well, what did he 56:02 give you permission to do? 56:04 Well, on the front, it says rest. 56:05 So tell us about your experience. 56:06 This was really an incredible evangelism opportunity for you. 56:09 I was just at Walmart getting groceries. 56:11 So I mean, that's just regular routine stuff. 56:13 And a girl came up to me and clearly non-Christian, at least 56:17 from outward appearances. 56:18 And she said, Oh, she saw the front. 56:21 And she said, I was wondering what God gave me permission to do. 56:25 And I said, God gives us permission to rest. 56:27 And then you have these little card that has a QR code on the back and 56:31 it takes you directly into 3ABN's website. 56:33 And it talks all about the truth of the Sabbath and how God gives us 56:38 one day in that weekly cycle to rest. 56:40 So praise the Lord. 56:41 We are, how do they get all out? 56:42 You can contact us at 3ABN and we would love to send you these 56:46 shirts. 56:51 Thank you all for being here tonight. 56:52 Thank you for being, we just love working with you, love working in 56:55 ministry and your spouses. 56:56 Thank you for being part of the family. 56:58 Amen. 56:59 Yes. 57:01 Thank you again for your continued prayers and support for the 57:04 ministry of 3ABN. 57:05 God bless you. 57:06 We'll see you next time. |
