I want to spend my life mending broken people. 00:00:03.67\00:00:12.81 I want to spend my life, 00:00:15.41\00:00:19.15 I want to spend my life, mending broken people. 00:00:36.77\00:00:45.01 I want to spend my life, mending broken people. 00:00:47.24\00:00:55.68 Hello, family. 00:01:06.90\00:01:07.76 I'm Jill Morricone. 00:01:07.93\00:01:08.76 We just welcome you to our 3ABN Today Live. 00:01:08.83\00:01:12.33 I love this program because we are coming to you live and we 00:01:12.67\00:01:15.80 get to showcase and feature what God is doing in ministries all 00:01:15.80\00:01:21.58 around the world. 00:01:21.58\00:01:22.04 Now normally I'd be hosting with Greg. 00:01:22.41\00:01:24.28 I feel just a little empty here without him. 00:01:24.35\00:01:27.05 But he sends his love to you. 00:01:27.05\00:01:28.78 He's not able to be here tonight. 00:01:28.95\00:01:30.79 Tonight. 00:01:31.49\00:01:36.26 human trafficking. 00:01:36.26\00:01:37.79 We're coming up in just a few days. 00:01:38.56\00:01:40.43 July 30 is the World Day Against Trafficking. 00:01:40.53\00:01:45.57 And if I think of ministries whose focus or part of their 00:01:45.97\00:01:51.44 focus is specifically helping children who are trafficked all 00:01:51.44\00:01:56.28 over the world, raising awareness, rescuing those children and bringing healing 00:01:56.78\00:02:02.28 and hope, the ministry that I think first and foremost, the 00:02:02.28\00:02:06.59 ministry that's on the front lines, you could say, cutting 00:02:06.59\00:02:10.76 edge with bringing this hope and healing as Child Impact 00:02:10.76\00:02:13.83 International. Here at 3ABN, we believe in their ministry. 00:02:14.30\00:02:16.97 Personally, Greg and I believe in what God is doing in and 00:02:17.47\00:02:20.47 through them. 00:02:20.47\00:02:25.77 what God is doing through this ministry. 00:02:25.77\00:02:27.71 If you have young children in the home, I want to encourage 00:02:27.98\00:02:32.38 you. Maybe you could engage them in something else for the next 00:02:32.38\00:02:36.35 couple hours because this is a serious topic. 00:02:36.35\00:02:38.85 They will handle it, of course, sensitively, but it's a serious 00:02:38.95\00:02:43.49 topic and it's a dark topic. 00:02:43.49\00:02:45.63 But the truth of God's Word and the light of Jesus needs to be 00:02:45.63\00:02:52.33 shined into those dark places. 00:02:52.33\00:02:53.70 It's my privilege right now to introduce my family, your 00:02:54.20\00:02:57.57 family. Dr. Tom Evans is the CEO of Child Impact International. 00:02:57.91\00:03:03.24 And we're so glad to have you here tonight. 00:03:03.31\00:03:04.91 We're glad to be here. 00:03:05.08\00:03:08.85 children from Ethiopia. 00:03:08.85\00:03:10.59 It's a real blessing. 00:03:10.99\00:03:11.82 Absolutely. 00:03:12.29\00:03:12.82 It's a privilege to do that. 00:03:12.95\00:03:14.19 And we get their little pictures and get to see what's happening. 00:03:14.19\00:03:17.06 Coming around the table here, we have Jason Churchwell. 00:03:17.46\00:03:19.86 It's a privilege to have you here as well. 00:03:20.23\00:03:22.53 And you are the Vice President for Field Operations. 00:03:22.53\00:03:26.07 Thanks for having us, Jill. 00:03:26.67\00:03:27.50 It's a pleasure to be here. 00:03:27.50\00:03:27.54 Wonderful to have you. 00:03:29.07\00:03:32.41 And last but not least, we saved Nicole for last year. 00:03:32.47\00:03:35.88 Nicole Bertelli, I hope I'm pronouncing your name right. 00:03:36.04\00:03:38.41 And you are the Director of Child Impact Brazil. 00:03:38.71\00:03:41.35 And we're so glad to have you here tonight. 00:03:41.42\00:03:42.95 Thank you, Jill. 00:03:42.95\00:03:43.59 It's a pleasure to be here. 00:03:43.62\00:03:44.65 This is your first time, I think, right? 00:03:45.09\00:03:46.59 Yes, with you guys. 00:03:46.92\00:03:47.62 Yes, that's wonderful. 00:03:47.79\00:03:49.29 I know for sure we've had Dr. Tom many times as well as Jason 00:03:49.39\00:03:53.63 many times. 00:03:53.63\00:03:54.23 But maybe someone's watching for the first time. 00:03:54.60\00:03:56.56 Dr. Tom, what is Child Impact International? 00:03:56.60\00:03:59.07 And I know tonight we're focused specifically on trafficking, but 00:03:59.50\00:04:02.20 you have a whole other arm of Child Impact. 00:04:02.20\00:04:04.71 So talk to us a little bit about the minute. 00:04:04.87\00:04:06.31 So Child Impact has existed a little longer than I've been 00:04:06.37\00:04:10.05 alive. So 57 years and started with child sponsorship and so 00:04:10.78\00:04:16.85 began in India, Bangladesh, Myanmar. 00:04:17.35\00:04:18.42 And so basically that's how Child Impact began as Asian Aid 00:04:19.19\00:04:23.56 out of Australia, transitioned to the United States as Child 00:04:23.56\00:04:27.60 Impact, well, Asian Aid USA. 00:04:27.60\00:04:29.03 But a number of years ago, changed the name, became 00:04:29.90\00:04:33.00 international in focus. 00:04:33.00\00:04:37.37 through what we call Operation Child Rescue. 00:04:37.37\00:04:39.37 Yes. 00:04:39.37\00:04:40.41 Now, what was the impetus for Operation Child Rescue? 00:04:40.64\00:04:43.41 That's our focus for tonight's topic is Operation Child Rescue. 00:04:43.55\00:04:46.95 What was the impetus for that? 00:04:47.22\00:04:48.45 I think really just recognizing that there's an underground 00:04:49.05\00:04:52.75 crime called human trafficking. 00:04:52.75\00:04:53.82 And I like to just have individuals complete this phrase 00:04:54.16\00:04:58.63 out of sight. Out of mind. 00:04:59.09\00:04:59.43 Right. 00:04:59.69\00:05:03.77 see it. 00:05:03.77\00:05:04.77 But yet it impacts 50 million individuals globally. 00:05:04.90\00:05:07.74 And so this is an area we think we really need to pay some 00:05:08.27\00:05:12.41 serious attention to. 00:05:12.41\00:05:13.04 Wow. 00:05:13.27\00:05:16.24 And when you say trafficked, what does that mean? 00:05:16.24\00:05:18.11 Well, there are many different kinds of trafficking. 00:05:18.58\00:05:20.88 The most familiar one would be sex trafficking. 00:05:21.28\00:05:23.18 Anytime a young person under the age of 18 is engaged in sex 00:05:23.95\00:05:28.39 work, it's considered to be human trafficking. 00:05:28.52\00:05:30.03 But there's also labor trafficking. 00:05:30.46\00:05:32.23 There's a child marriage. 00:05:33.29\00:05:34.56 So there's some different forms of trafficking. 00:05:34.83\00:05:36.53 It's such a heavy topic. 00:05:37.73\00:05:39.20 Before we go further, let's just open up in prayer. 00:05:39.53\00:05:41.97 As we talk about this topic, as we engage and hear the stories, 00:05:42.17\00:05:46.64 but maybe we should just go to the Lord in prayer for his 00:05:46.64\00:05:50.28 anointing over this program. 00:05:50.28\00:05:50.81 Nicole, would you pray for us? 00:05:51.15\00:05:52.18 Yes, I'd love to. 00:05:52.21\00:05:53.21 Sure. 00:05:53.95\00:05:56.95 raise awareness to such a huge issue that affects your children 00:05:56.95\00:06:00.32 all over the world every day. 00:06:00.32\00:06:01.76 We pray that as we talk about this, that your Holy Spirit will 00:06:02.16\00:06:05.29 be among us and among the audience and that your word will 00:06:05.29\00:06:09.90 be conveyed in Jesus' name. 00:06:09.90\00:06:10.47 Amen. 00:06:10.67\00:06:10.87 Amen. 00:06:11.13\00:06:11.47 Thank you so much. 00:06:12.17\00:06:13.27 So there's 50 million people that are globally trafficked. 00:06:13.57\00:06:17.21 What's the mission statement or objective of Child Impact? 00:06:17.24\00:06:20.08 So we want to eradicate exploitation. 00:06:20.51\00:06:22.81 That's part of our mission statement. 00:06:23.04\00:06:24.08 And so our focus is with children. 00:06:24.28\00:06:27.18 So the majority of our projects, the 24 projects that we have now 00:06:27.85\00:06:31.42 fighting human trafficking are focused on children. 00:06:31.42\00:06:34.09 We do have a couple that also help with adults, but those 00:06:34.09\00:06:38.33 adults have children. 00:06:38.33\00:06:38.83 So that's the goal. 00:06:39.26\00:06:40.80 Really, I think the biggest and most important step for someone 00:06:41.40\00:06:47.17 who is being trafficked is to be in a safe place. 00:06:47.17\00:06:50.34 Healing cannot begin until someone is safe. 00:06:51.01\00:06:53.21 And so our goal is really to rescue the victims. 00:06:53.31\00:06:56.71 We haven't been so much focused on catching the perpetrators. 00:06:57.21\00:06:59.85 That's a whole nother area of work. 00:07:00.65\00:07:02.22 We do have an amazing story about that later. 00:07:02.22\00:07:04.25 But our main focus is to find those victims and allow them to 00:07:04.99\00:07:09.42 experience freedom in their lives in a safe place. 00:07:09.42\00:07:12.16 That's so important. 00:07:12.29\00:07:13.36 Can we put up that graphic one more time that you put it up, 00:07:13.73\00:07:16.26 but we didn't get to reference that. 00:07:16.26\00:07:17.47 It says we empower vulnerable children through education and 00:07:17.80\00:07:21.40 fight to eradicate exploitation. 00:07:21.40\00:07:23.20 I love that. 00:07:23.47\00:07:24.37 Praise the Lord. 00:07:24.64\00:07:25.41 Wow, that's powerful. 00:07:25.47\00:07:26.64 So you have 24 projects now with Operation Child Rescue. 00:07:28.41\00:07:33.25 Yeah, that's in addition to 4,500 children that are 00:07:33.68\00:07:36.65 sponsored. There are education programs, but we've been growing 00:07:36.75\00:07:41.79 in this area 10 years ago was the first project. 00:07:41.79\00:07:43.43 And so from that time, there's been a lot of growth, especially 00:07:43.99\00:07:47.20 over the last couple of years. 00:07:47.20\00:07:48.30 And before I know we're going to talk specifically about the 00:07:48.76\00:07:51.27 different projects and the stories from that, but what 00:07:51.27\00:07:54.40 leads a young person into even being trafficked? 00:07:54.40\00:07:56.07 Well, I would say what we think of here in America is very 00:07:57.81\00:08:03.24 different than the reality. 00:08:03.24\00:08:09.05 countries. 00:08:09.05\00:08:14.96 trafficking. 00:08:14.96\00:08:15.19 That's poverty. 00:08:15.39\00:08:20.50 who are in impoverished situations. 00:08:20.50\00:08:22.30 Meaning the parents don't have money, so they might sell their 00:08:23.50\00:08:26.47 children or? 00:08:26.47\00:08:27.54 There's a couple of different things that could happen and 00:08:28.50\00:08:31.01 that's certainly one of them. 00:08:31.01\00:08:31.81 We've heard stories of kids all sitting around the table like 00:08:32.84\00:08:36.31 this for dinner. 00:08:36.31\00:08:40.65 can all sit here and go hungry or I can go sell myself to put 00:08:40.65\00:08:44.29 food on the table here. 00:08:44.29\00:08:45.19 And so in some instances, it is parents encouraging their kids 00:08:45.59\00:08:49.29 to go out and make money in these different ways. 00:08:49.29\00:08:51.03 In some instances, it's kids volunteering themselves. 00:08:51.26\00:08:53.73 And we've heard one of our girls say, can I be a sacrifice to 00:08:54.66\00:08:58.67 provide for the rest of my siblings? 00:08:58.67\00:09:00.20 And so really a number of factors, but all very sad and 00:09:00.77\00:09:04.84 many times related to poverty, as Tom said. 00:09:04.84\00:09:06.78 And I know you said most of it's overseas, but it also happens 00:09:07.44\00:09:10.91 here in the U.S. 00:09:10.91\00:09:11.55 Yeah, different kinds of factors in the U.S. 00:09:12.61\00:09:14.42 The number one resource for trafficked kids is the foster 00:09:14.42\00:09:19.45 care system. 00:09:19.45\00:09:25.39 system. 00:09:25.39\00:09:26.09 Oh, wow, because they're so vulnerable. 00:09:26.33\00:09:27.76 Yeah. 00:09:27.76\00:09:28.03 They got nobody to look after them. 00:09:29.06\00:09:30.43 Yeah, so I always encourage, you know, we want to know what can 00:09:30.47\00:09:33.67 we do here in America if there's individuals that have a calling 00:09:33.67\00:09:37.11 to be a great foster family. 00:09:37.11\00:09:38.84 I mean, this is a way directly to impact children and keep them 00:09:39.01\00:09:44.75 out of trafficking scenarios. 00:09:44.75\00:09:46.28 The other, probably the other feeder here in America is 00:09:46.88\00:09:49.45 pornography. 00:09:49.45\00:09:49.98 And so a site like OnlyFans where someone can be a porn 00:09:50.95\00:09:55.46 star, this is where you'll find individuals that are trafficked because about a one 00:09:55.46\00:09:58.76 -third of the individuals on that site are underage. 00:09:58.76\00:10:02.73 So that's also human trafficking. 00:10:02.93\00:10:04.43 And does the United States drive the trafficking overseas? 00:10:05.27\00:10:09.77 In other words, is it United States people who go overseas 00:10:10.14\00:10:13.98 who actually engage in this trafficking or not? 00:10:13.98\00:10:16.11 There's certainly some of that that's happening, but I think 00:10:16.88\00:10:20.05 our criminal activity in this is our addiction to pornography in 00:10:20.05\00:10:24.05 America because these underage children, boys or girls that get 00:10:24.05\00:10:28.59 put onto these sites, we think maybe this is something that they're voluntarily 00:10:28.59\00:10:32.89 they're doing, but many of these young people are actually 00:10:32.89\00:10:35.66 trafficked into those situations. 00:10:35.66\00:10:37.73 And the difference in somebody buying drugs, for example, is 00:10:38.40\00:10:41.90 the drugs are used up, but when someone is trafficked, they're 00:10:41.90\00:10:45.57 used over and over again on a daily basis for years. 00:10:45.57\00:10:47.78 But the average lifespan is about seven years for someone 00:10:48.18\00:10:51.48 that's been trafficked. 00:10:51.48\00:10:51.98 So it's really a death sentence. 00:10:52.65\00:10:54.18 And we have one of our projects where a high percentage of the 00:10:54.88\00:10:59.22 girls have contracted HIV as a result of having been 00:10:59.22\00:11:04.73 trafficked. Seven years. 00:11:05.39\00:11:06.13 That's really heavy. 00:11:06.56\00:11:07.76 Seven years once you're trafficked, your life 00:11:08.13\00:11:11.50 expectancy. And less than one in 100 will ever escape. 00:11:11.50\00:11:13.64 And so it's really a very, very challenging work to be in. 00:11:14.47\00:11:17.97 And so we want to be as much in that preventative side as we 00:11:18.41\00:11:21.64 can. There's some types of trafficking that might be a 00:11:22.11\00:11:25.91 little easier to prevent, like child marriage, very challenging, lots of cultural 00:11:25.91\00:11:29.05 pressures with that, but that's a little more straightforward to 00:11:29.05\00:11:32.19 go in and kind of try to prevent that. 00:11:32.19\00:11:33.69 Okay. 00:11:34.72\00:11:35.02 Well, we heard some heavy stuff already tonight, but what we're 00:11:35.99\00:11:39.06 going to hear moving forward is the stories of hope and healing, 00:11:39.06\00:11:43.67 what's taking place through the Ministry of Child Impact 00:11:43.67\00:11:47.94 International. I think you have a video with SAF 58. 00:11:48.10\00:11:50.11 We want to go to that. 00:11:50.17\00:11:50.94 Let's go to that video right now. 00:11:50.97\00:11:52.71 Give naked people clothes to wear and provide for the needs 00:12:20.47\00:12:25.17 of your own family. 00:12:25.17\00:12:25.97 Then the light of my blessing will shine on you like the 00:12:26.64\00:12:30.21 rising sun. I will heal you quickly. 00:12:30.75\00:12:32.31 I will march out ahead of you. 00:12:32.81\00:12:34.72 And my glory will follow behind you and guard you. 00:12:35.12\00:12:39.69 Praise the Lord. 00:12:55.90\00:13:02.11 Child Impact International. 00:13:02.11\00:13:03.31 Now those students are from your schools? 00:13:03.31\00:13:05.81 In India, yeah. 00:13:06.31\00:13:07.48 So the blind school, deaf school, and one of our 00:13:08.18\00:13:11.52 orphanages. I love when the video goes silent, really. 00:13:12.45\00:13:15.89 There's just music, and you see the signing taking place. 00:13:15.96\00:13:19.16 I've met these kids, and it's very emotional to see the video. 00:13:19.46\00:13:22.43 But we're super excited because the International Camperee is 00:13:23.03\00:13:27.47 happening in just a couple weeks. 00:13:27.47\00:13:28.44 That's right, Gillette. 00:13:28.44\00:13:32.74 So the entire school, they're all pathfinders, and they're 00:13:33.24\00:13:37.01 called the silent warriors. 00:13:37.01\00:13:41.95 ground that they feel that helps them know how to march. 00:13:41.95\00:13:45.55 Anyway, we're super excited about that. 00:13:46.19\00:13:47.79 Praise the Lord. 00:13:48.02\00:13:49.52 That's wonderful. 00:13:49.66\00:13:50.89 Now we're moving to Brazil, I think. 00:13:51.83\00:13:53.36 So let's go to the video for that, and then we'll talk to 00:13:53.46\00:13:57.27 Nicole and how she got involved with Child Impact. 00:13:57.27\00:13:58.90 But let's go to the video for Brazil. 00:13:59.03\00:14:00.57 Child Impact Brazil is an organization that exists to 00:14:06.94\00:14:10.11 serve the most vulnerable children in the city of São 00:14:10.11\00:14:12.68 Paulo. We have kids from Bolivia, kids from Haiti, and 00:14:13.05\00:14:16.48 kids that have migrated to São Paulo. 00:14:16.48\00:14:17.55 Some of them are coming from living in the streets with their 00:14:17.89\00:14:20.72 families. Some of them are just coming for, looking for a better 00:14:21.36\00:14:24.33 future for their families, but yet they find themselves living 00:14:24.33\00:14:27.60 in a factory invasion. 00:14:27.60\00:14:28.13 Eight years ago, a few people broke into an abandoned factory 00:14:31.17\00:14:35.27 warehouse. 00:14:35.27\00:14:35.80 It was first a factory warehouse turned into a nightclub. 00:14:36.40\00:14:39.21 The government shut it down, and the place was shut down for 00:14:39.41\00:14:42.18 years. So a few people that needed a place to live broke 00:14:42.68\00:14:45.78 into it. Fast forward eight years, and today there's 1,500 00:14:46.01\00:14:51.29 families, around 7 ,000 people living in that community. 00:14:51.29\00:14:52.95 So now imagine 7,000 people. 00:14:53.32\00:14:56.16 It's one factory warehouse. 00:14:56.46\00:14:58.23 It's equivalent to one block. 00:14:58.33\00:14:59.86 And there are 7,000 people squeezed on top of each other 00:15:00.36\00:15:03.73 there. We occupied this building seven years ago, and this 00:15:05.67\00:15:09.24 building is already transforming into a state. 00:15:09.24\00:15:11.11 We have a significant number of refugees, and we are home to 00:15:11.34\00:15:15.31 approximately six different ethnicities from diverse 00:15:15.31\00:15:18.38 backgrounds. 00:15:18.38\00:15:19.15 In our community, being a very needy community, the majority of 00:15:19.61\00:15:23.65 mothers are extremely afraid that these children will go back 00:15:23.65\00:15:27.49 to a life of crime, resort to an environment that is not 00:15:27.49\00:15:30.96 sustainable. 00:15:30.96\00:15:31.63 One of the main issues that we're having with the children 00:15:34.50\00:15:37.43 in our community is that at a very young age, they're involved 00:15:37.43\00:15:41.27 with crime, they're doing drugs, they are using their bodies to 00:15:41.54\00:15:45.64 get money. So it's important for the kids to have a place like 00:15:46.27\00:15:49.08 this, where they're involved in constructive, productive activities, a place let 00:15:49.08\00:15:53.82 out by people that have a different mindset than that 00:15:53.82\00:15:57.22 which they see every day. 00:15:57.22\00:16:02.02 better future is attainable. 00:16:02.02\00:16:03.76 And we sow, through our examples, our education and 00:16:04.03\00:16:09.23 culture, a work practically of Jesus here inside. 00:16:09.23\00:16:11.37 So we are Christians for them, so we teach respect, education, 00:16:11.80\00:16:16.17 cordiality, and hope for a better future. 00:16:16.84\00:16:19.44 We plant this idea with them in a manner that they believe the 00:16:20.84\00:16:24.05 present circumstances are not indicative of their future 00:16:24.05\00:16:26.78 circumstances and that a more promising future awaits them. 00:16:26.78\00:16:30.42 We strive to demonstrate that the current situation they 00:16:31.19\00:16:34.79 reside in, the conditions they face, the reality they 00:16:35.19\00:16:39.23 encounter, and the circumstances they find themselves in do not dictate their future 00:16:39.23\00:16:42.86 outcomes. 00:16:42.86\00:16:43.40 Amen. 00:17:01.52\00:17:06.92 block, that's incredible. 00:17:06.92\00:17:08.12 Yeah, I like to be conservative with the number. 00:17:08.32\00:17:10.43 I've heard it as high as 12,000 people. 00:17:10.96\00:17:13.46 Wow, that's amazing. 00:17:13.86\00:17:15.16 So before we talk really about the project and what's taking 00:17:15.26\00:17:17.80 place, Nicole, how did you get involved with Child Impact? 00:17:18.00\00:17:21.10 Oh, Jill, God is so good. 00:17:21.50\00:17:22.47 I was serving as a missionary in a close country in Southeast 00:17:23.17\00:17:26.17 Asia. I had been there for a year and a half, had been a 00:17:26.64\00:17:29.01 missionary for nine years, not once thought about going back to 00:17:29.01\00:17:31.68 Brazil. I was born and raised in Brazil, left to become a 00:17:31.81\00:17:34.35 missionary. And somehow early last year, God put in my heart, 00:17:35.35\00:17:39.15 hey, I think it's time to go home. 00:17:39.15\00:17:40.06 I think it's time to be near your family. 00:17:40.06\00:17:41.69 But in my whole time as a missionary, I never moved other 00:17:42.29\00:17:45.99 than for following a calling. 00:17:45.99\00:17:47.23 But there was no calling. 00:17:48.10\00:17:49.06 There was just this desire to be home. 00:17:49.20\00:17:50.77 So I started to pray and I said, Lord, I know ministry and 00:17:50.90\00:17:54.27 mission isn't a phase of my life, is your calling for my 00:17:54.27\00:17:56.74 life. So please open doors for me to be able to come back home 00:17:57.44\00:18:00.38 and continue to serve you there. 00:18:00.38\00:18:04.15 you. 00:18:04.15\00:18:07.35 And a friend of mine who had served with me in this country, 00:18:07.55\00:18:11.55 had moved back to the United States and started working with 00:18:11.55\00:18:14.22 Child Impact. And she had nothing but incredible things to say about the ministry. 00:18:14.56\00:18:17.19 She was so in love with it, the work that they were doing, the 00:18:17.63\00:18:20.16 team. 00:18:20.16\00:18:20.80 And she overheard Jason walking down the hallway, talking to 00:18:21.33\00:18:24.87 himself saying, I really want Brazil. 00:18:24.87\00:18:26.80 And she was like, wait a minute. 00:18:28.50\00:18:30.74 They had a conversation about it. 00:18:31.64\00:18:33.24 And she told me, she's like, hey, they're trying to start a 00:18:33.51\00:18:37.01 project in Brazil. 00:18:37.01\00:18:38.91 Wow. 00:18:38.91\00:18:39.68 And fast forward to a few months later, I started serving with 00:18:40.28\00:18:43.72 Child Impact. 00:18:43.72\00:18:44.09 Wow. 00:18:44.45\00:18:44.92 So when was that? 00:18:44.92\00:18:45.55 When did you begin serving? 00:18:45.55\00:18:46.45 I began serving from a distance in June last year, moved back in 00:18:47.42\00:18:51.79 October of 2023 to start the project. 00:18:51.79\00:18:53.90 Okay. 00:18:54.00\00:18:54.56 So this is just brand new. 00:18:54.60\00:18:55.70 This is less than a year it's been going. 00:18:55.83\00:18:57.10 Yeah. 00:18:57.10\00:18:59.93 Okay. 00:19:00.17\00:19:03.84 all those people live in? 00:19:03.84\00:19:04.61 Yeah. 00:19:04.74\00:19:05.14 It's 400 meters. 00:19:05.14\00:19:06.34 Wow. 00:19:06.34\00:19:06.57 So it's a couple of blocks down. 00:19:07.04\00:19:09.71 Okay. 00:19:09.78\00:19:10.15 Wow. 00:19:10.15\00:19:11.91 Wow. 00:19:12.38\00:19:12.78 That's incredible. 00:19:12.88\00:19:13.65 Dr. Tom, your wife's Brazilian, right? 00:19:13.72\00:19:15.22 She is. 00:19:15.25\00:19:15.75 I remember that. 00:19:15.92\00:19:16.99 Yeah. 00:19:16.99\00:19:20.06 Brazil. 00:19:20.06\00:19:20.39 I had seen the favelas there. 00:19:20.76\00:19:22.36 And really, this is an unusual favela. 00:19:22.42\00:19:24.16 Yeah. 00:19:24.16\00:19:27.60 hillsides, just shacks. 00:19:27.60\00:19:28.93 But this one's inside of a, kind of a broken down warehouse. 00:19:29.23\00:19:31.73 So I think I heard it referred to as a hidden favela. 00:19:32.30\00:19:34.50 This is what actually spiked our interest in this community. 00:19:34.50\00:19:37.07 When I first went on a trip in June to look for a community to 00:19:37.31\00:19:41.34 serve, I went to the second largest favela in the city. 00:19:41.34\00:19:43.21 And visiting back with my family, my aunt said, no, no, 00:19:44.18\00:19:46.48 no, that's not the place for you. 00:19:46.48\00:19:47.45 I got to tell you about this place that nobody knows about. 00:19:47.72\00:19:50.05 And it's exactly what it is, a hidden favela. 00:19:51.02\00:19:53.32 And as Tom said, out of sight, out of mind. 00:19:53.42\00:19:55.42 So much so that our neighbors, the people that live next to our 00:19:55.86\00:19:59.33 project, who have lived there, 400 meters from them for 20 00:19:59.33\00:20:03.73 years, did not know that 7,000 people lived there. 00:20:03.73\00:20:05.57 How could you not know that? 00:20:05.97\00:20:06.97 I mean, I don't mean to be rude, but how could you not know all 00:20:07.20\00:20:09.37 those people are there? 00:20:09.37\00:20:10.11 Do they never come out? 00:20:10.27\00:20:11.24 They do come out, but they're in a major avenue, but they're 00:20:11.64\00:20:16.48 behind a brick wall. 00:20:16.48\00:20:20.92 for warehouses. 00:20:20.92\00:20:21.68 It has a ton of warehouses. 00:20:21.95\00:20:23.35 From the outside, it looks like just another warehouse. 00:20:23.65\00:20:25.85 Wow. 00:20:26.32\00:20:26.72 That's incredible. 00:20:27.49\00:20:28.29 So what's the vision for the project there? 00:20:28.79\00:20:30.76 The vision for the project is to continue to grow. 00:20:31.39\00:20:34.30 We're currently serving 60 children. 00:20:34.76\00:20:36.60 Do they stay there or they just come during the day or they 00:20:37.43\00:20:40.00 spend the night there? 00:20:40.00\00:20:40.50 They come during the day. 00:20:40.64\00:20:41.34 So school's part-time in Brazil. 00:20:41.74\00:20:43.04 So they go to school in the morning and come in the 00:20:43.51\00:20:46.17 afternoon or vice versa. 00:20:46.17\00:20:46.57 They stay with us. 00:20:47.71\00:20:48.48 We have recreation. 00:20:48.51\00:20:49.48 We have physical activities. 00:20:49.81\00:20:51.61 We have tutoring. 00:20:51.88\00:20:57.82 activities to develop them culturally. 00:20:57.82\00:20:59.45 We just got a donation for 20 computers. 00:20:59.45\00:21:01.59 We're going to start computer lessons. 00:21:01.96\00:21:03.29 That was actually a donation from the conference. 00:21:03.32\00:21:04.86 God has been very good. 00:21:04.96\00:21:06.16 And the vision is to be able to provide them with opportunities 00:21:06.66\00:21:13.60 for a different future. 00:21:13.60\00:21:14.34 Yeah. 00:21:14.87\00:21:15.24 If Child Impact were not there, what would be the future for the 00:21:16.57\00:21:20.24 young people growing up in this hidden favela? 00:21:20.24\00:21:22.18 It would probably be a repetition of the cycle that 00:21:23.55\00:21:25.91 their parents find themselves in, right? 00:21:25.91\00:21:27.08 So a lot of people come to this community because they don't 00:21:27.35\00:21:29.82 have to pay rent. 00:21:29.82\00:21:30.32 They don't have to pay water. 00:21:30.52\00:21:31.25 They don't have to pay electricity. 00:21:31.35\00:21:32.52 They don't make any money. 00:21:33.05\00:21:33.99 Majority of my kids' parents live off of the government. 00:21:34.26\00:21:36.73 Majority of my kids' parents have not graduated middle 00:21:37.23\00:21:40.43 school. Oh, wow. 00:21:40.60\00:21:41.23 Let's not mention high school. 00:21:41.40\00:21:43.03 Literacy level is very low amongst the parents. 00:21:43.90\00:21:46.50 The day that we recorded that video that you watched, another 00:21:47.60\00:21:51.17 person was supposed to give us an interview, the mother of 00:21:51.17\00:21:53.54 another one of our kids. 00:21:53.54\00:21:57.68 drugs again. 00:21:57.68\00:21:58.65 So she was afraid to see her face on camera. 00:21:58.65\00:22:01.72 Crime is rampant. 00:22:02.45\00:22:03.82 I have 13-year-olds that are already committing petty crimes. 00:22:04.05\00:22:06.76 Going and stealing on subways, I have 14-year-olds that are 00:22:07.09\00:22:10.83 selling drugs. 00:22:10.83\00:22:14.93 happens there. 00:22:14.93\00:22:15.66 And he said, Oh, yeah, and some kids sell drugs. 00:22:15.93\00:22:18.07 I'm like, Wait a minute, you're in primary school. 00:22:18.13\00:22:20.00 You're telling me kids sell drugs in your primary school? 00:22:20.14\00:22:22.60 He said, Yes. 00:22:22.60\00:22:23.57 So that's the reality of drunk parents, parents that are high 00:22:24.01\00:22:29.98 very often. 00:22:29.98\00:22:30.41 That would likely be the future for a lot of my children. 00:22:31.15\00:22:33.68 You know, we were there in April, and I asked that same 00:22:34.18\00:22:37.19 question as we were going around interviewing some of the parents 00:22:37.19\00:22:40.09 in this favela community. 00:22:40.09\00:22:45.03 mom, and we asked her mom, Hey, you know, what changes have you 00:22:45.03\00:22:48.03 seen in your daughter? 00:22:48.03\00:22:48.63 How valuable do you find the center? 00:22:49.33\00:22:51.13 What was your daughter into before she was coming to all the 00:22:51.33\00:22:53.67 programs at our center? 00:22:53.67\00:22:58.21 She was setting fire to them. 00:22:58.37\00:22:59.77 She was robbing people in the subway. 00:22:59.81\00:23:01.54 Throwing rocks on the neighbors, breaking windows. 00:23:01.81\00:23:04.18 A beautiful little girl. 00:23:04.18\00:23:04.21 She was so cute and lovely. 00:23:04.85\00:23:06.21 So innocent, yeah. 00:23:06.21\00:23:07.18 And I just couldn't believe what she was saying. 00:23:07.18\00:23:08.85 They said, Oh, no, the bank manager thought she was the 00:23:09.22\00:23:12.55 leader of a little gang. 00:23:12.55\00:23:13.32 And this, you know, cute little girl. 00:23:13.96\00:23:15.42 And we just, you know, can't understand what these little 00:23:15.99\00:23:19.03 kids are dealing with back in their homes. 00:23:19.03\00:23:21.13 Yeah. 00:23:21.13\00:23:21.46 And the ones that are not involved in crime are often 00:23:23.37\00:23:25.90 involved in bagging or selling things on the street to make 00:23:25.90\00:23:29.64 money because the parents don't have enough money to support the 00:23:29.64\00:23:31.64 families. Now, I think you have some pictures, as well as, I 00:23:32.74\00:23:34.94 don't know if they're stories connected with the pictures, so 00:23:34.94\00:23:37.41 I'll let you go ahead with... 00:23:37.41\00:23:39.48 Let's go ahead and put those up. 00:23:39.48\00:23:40.88 What are we seeing here? 00:23:41.22\00:23:42.15 So we're seeing the entrance of the community. 00:23:42.15\00:23:43.82 There are seven different ethnicities that currently live 00:23:43.95\00:23:47.82 together there, but the three primary ones are Haitians, 00:23:47.82\00:23:50.93 Brazilians, and Bolivians. 00:23:51.13\00:23:52.33 There are lots and lots of immigrants in that community. 00:23:52.63\00:23:55.66 Now, the Brazilians receive government assistance. 00:23:56.00\00:23:58.13 The foreigners don't. 00:23:58.33\00:23:59.47 So they're in an even more challenging situation 00:23:59.67\00:24:02.64 financially oftentimes, especially when they just come 00:24:02.64\00:24:05.67 into the country. And it's very interesting. 00:24:06.21\00:24:07.41 We're just now starting to get more Bolivian children, which 00:24:07.94\00:24:11.01 we're very grateful for, because the Brazilian children come in 00:24:11.01\00:24:15.42 like little Tasmanian devils, right? 00:24:15.42\00:24:16.82 And the Bolivians have a very different culture. 00:24:17.42\00:24:19.62 They don't have the financial resources, but they raise their 00:24:20.02\00:24:22.36 children very well. 00:24:22.36\00:24:23.29 So they're just now trusting us enough to allow their children 00:24:23.66\00:24:27.13 to spend the afternoons with the rest of the Brazilian kids in 00:24:27.13\00:24:29.56 the project. 00:24:29.56\00:24:29.83 Yes, that makes sense. 00:24:30.47\00:24:31.40 Let's go to the next picture. 00:24:32.67\00:24:33.77 So, this is the mother of one of our children. 00:24:35.80\00:24:38.51 It's their apartment, if I could call it that. 00:24:40.41\00:24:43.91 It's about as large as your rug, Joe. 00:24:44.05\00:24:45.71 There are no windows. 00:24:48.15\00:24:49.72 Their little home is inside the roof of the factory warehouse. 00:24:50.59\00:24:54.56 They have no direct sunlight. 00:24:54.82\00:24:56.56 There's no kitchen, there's no bathroom. 00:24:57.03\00:24:58.59 It's just a room for the four of them. 00:24:58.99\00:25:01.13 And that's the reality of so many of the people in that 00:25:01.30\00:25:05.03 community. I think they've lived there for seven years in that 00:25:06.03\00:25:09.40 room. In that room the size of this rug right here. 00:25:09.47\00:25:11.54 Exactly. 00:25:11.54\00:25:11.94 That's incredible. 00:25:13.64\00:25:14.44 More pictures? 00:25:15.34\00:25:15.91 More pictures. 00:25:16.21\00:25:16.71 I want to talk about these two little girls because they're 00:25:19.25\00:25:21.72 very special to me. 00:25:21.72\00:25:26.19 her hair. 00:25:26.19\00:25:26.72 Let me run you through a day in her life. 00:25:27.32\00:25:28.82 picture this, Joe. 00:25:31.69\00:25:32.69 You wake up in the morning, probably you run and brush your 00:25:32.89\00:25:35.00 teeth on your sink. 00:25:35.00\00:25:36.67 She has no sink. 00:25:37.07\00:25:38.10 Then the next thing you'll probably do is go make her 00:25:39.00\00:25:41.84 breakfast in your kitchen. 00:25:41.84\00:25:42.40 There's no running water. 00:25:42.47\00:25:43.30 There's a stove, but there's no running water for the kitchen. 00:25:43.71\00:25:45.81 Naturally there's no bathroom. 00:25:46.24\00:25:47.44 There's no picking up your clean clothes before going to school. 00:25:48.44\00:25:51.55 Sometimes there's breakfast, sometimes there isn't. 00:25:52.35\00:25:54.18 So she goes to school, comes back. 00:25:55.08\00:25:56.75 By the time she comes back, 95% of the time that I've seen her 00:25:56.92\00:26:00.99 mom, she's drunk. 00:26:00.99\00:26:01.69 In the middle of the day. 00:26:01.99\00:26:03.16 Comes back to a drunk mother. 00:26:03.83\00:26:05.13 May or may not eat lunch at home. 00:26:05.13\00:26:07.56 In Brazil, the school serves a meal. 00:26:08.20\00:26:09.63 So that's very helpful for a lot of our families. 00:26:09.83\00:26:12.23 Sometimes her mom beats her up bad enough that other community 00:26:14.20\00:26:19.44 members have wanted to beat up her mother. 00:26:19.44\00:26:21.61 And she has had to interject and protect her mother. 00:26:21.88\00:26:24.28 That was the average day of this girl's life. 00:26:25.81\00:26:28.35 She's a child that's often playing on the street. 00:26:28.82\00:26:31.15 She's one of the children that was going to street corners to 00:26:31.72\00:26:35.62 ask for money from adults. 00:26:35.62\00:26:36.59 So when we talk about vulnerability and poverty 00:26:36.99\00:26:40.16 bringing about vulnerability, how hard would it be for a stranger to just grab that 00:26:40.16\00:26:43.16 little girl and throw her into their car? 00:26:43.16\00:26:44.90 Mom isn't around watching her. 00:26:44.97\00:26:47.04 None of the neighbors are around watching. 00:26:47.27\00:26:49.14 People just don't care. 00:26:49.24\00:26:50.24 She's a child that was in extreme vulnerability. 00:26:51.27\00:26:53.34 And thanks to sponsorships, she's the first child that we're 00:26:54.01\00:26:57.95 going to put in a Seventh-day Adventist school through our 00:26:57.95\00:27:00.85 project. She's getting a full-ride scholarship to one of 00:27:00.85\00:27:04.62 our schools. She's a lovely girl. 00:27:05.12\00:27:06.35 She's so polite. 00:27:07.39\00:27:08.62 She's so kind and well-mannered. 00:27:08.69\00:27:10.03 You never know the amount of trauma and abuse that that girl 00:27:10.13\00:27:13.50 goes through regularly. 00:27:13.50\00:27:14.46 When you're faced with so much pain and so much need, how do 00:27:17.13\00:27:26.01 you keep going? 00:27:26.01\00:27:26.34 I think for me, how do you not keep going? 00:27:28.14\00:27:30.35 Right? 00:27:31.61\00:27:35.68 So the need drives you. 00:27:36.85\00:27:38.15 Like, I've got to do more. 00:27:38.42\00:27:39.72 It keeps you awake at night, for sure. 00:27:39.89\00:27:41.16 And you're always asking, can we do more? 00:27:41.99\00:27:44.33 What more can we do? 00:27:44.39\00:27:45.29 But you have to do it one child at a time. 00:27:45.96\00:27:47.86 It's beautiful. 00:27:48.83\00:27:49.56 What about for you, Jason? 00:27:50.47\00:27:51.30 I would say the same thing. 00:27:52.10\00:27:53.64 It's those numbers that kind of go through my head. 00:27:53.64\00:27:56.34 When you think about 50 million people in modern-day slavery, 00:27:56.74\00:28:00.18 that number, we just can't even imagine how big it is. 00:28:00.18\00:28:02.58 But if it was my child, I would go after one more child. 00:28:02.74\00:28:05.78 I would keep going after my child. 00:28:05.95\00:28:07.45 And so they're all God's children. 00:28:08.12\00:28:09.65 And so I feel like we've got to keep going. 00:28:10.12\00:28:11.69 Like we said, just one at a time. 00:28:11.82\00:28:13.49 One more. 00:28:13.76\00:28:14.26 And in this case, this precious girl, she's rescued. 00:28:14.82\00:28:17.13 You know this is one who's taken out, who's safe now. 00:28:17.43\00:28:20.33 That's incredible. 00:28:20.33\00:28:21.40 It's going to have opportunities, a different 00:28:21.50\00:28:23.40 future. I always say that they live in an alternative reality. 00:28:24.43\00:28:26.74 That seems like, that's all that they know. 00:28:27.20\00:28:29.24 That's their world. 00:28:29.27\00:28:30.14 But it's so different from everything outside. 00:28:30.91\00:28:33.44 You know, if I can only expose them, if I can only show them 00:28:33.64\00:28:37.01 all the opportunities that are out there for them, show them 00:28:37.01\00:28:40.25 the love of Jesus, help them understand how precious they 00:28:40.25\00:28:42.48 are. And Jill, I think it matters what's happening halfway 00:28:43.75\00:28:46.76 around the world. I think it should matter to us in North 00:28:46.76\00:28:48.79 America. We're blessed to be a blessing. 00:28:49.56\00:28:51.06 And I always think of Acts 1-8 that talks about we have a 00:28:51.69\00:28:54.56 mission to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, but it ends by saying 00:28:54.56\00:28:58.30 all of this. Every disciple has a mission to the ends of the 00:28:59.30\00:29:01.24 earth. That's right. 00:29:02.17\00:29:02.50 I love that. 00:29:02.67\00:29:03.57 Any more pictures before we move on to the next part? 00:29:03.74\00:29:05.24 I believe we do. 00:29:05.27\00:29:06.37 Let's double check. 00:29:06.61\00:29:07.41 Yeah, so one thing that we love doing with our kids is arts. 00:29:08.28\00:29:11.78 Arts are extremely helpful with children that suffer abuse, 00:29:12.35\00:29:15.35 suffer trauma. 00:29:15.35\00:29:16.02 So I have this rowdy boy that cannot sit for five minutes for 00:29:16.58\00:29:20.26 tutoring, but I put a coloring page in front of them and 00:29:20.26\00:29:24.86 they'll sit and color for a whole hour. 00:29:24.86\00:29:26.06 It's therapy for them every day to engage in activities with 00:29:26.19\00:29:29.80 their hands. 00:29:29.80\00:29:33.87 their lives. 00:29:33.87\00:29:34.17 Can I please help? 00:29:34.37\00:29:35.07 I would love to help. 00:29:35.24\00:29:35.94 I would love to cook. 00:29:36.07\00:29:36.91 So we see these children that have amazing hearts. 00:29:37.17\00:29:38.97 They're still so moldable. 00:29:39.14\00:29:40.44 We can still shape them so much. 00:29:40.64\00:29:42.28 And I see that every day, the love that my team puts into 00:29:42.28\00:29:46.88 them, I see the effect that it has on them. 00:29:46.88\00:29:48.75 Amen, amen. 00:29:49.12\00:29:49.98 I think we have one more picture. 00:29:50.02\00:29:50.99 Yes, so every month we get to celebrate their birthdays with 00:29:51.42\00:29:55.49 the team. 00:29:55.49\00:29:55.79 I love that. 00:29:56.39\00:30:00.26 We do as much recreation as we can. 00:30:01.70\00:30:03.97 We do as much to help them have a normal life as we can. 00:30:04.00\00:30:07.64 Nicole, how many of these kids actually have someone that 00:30:08.30\00:30:10.97 celebrates their birthday? 00:30:10.97\00:30:11.91 Not that many. 00:30:13.84\00:30:14.91 I've been in situations where this is the first kick I've had. 00:30:16.44\00:30:19.85 It resonated with me when I saw that because we're adopting two 00:30:21.95\00:30:25.19 girls that are orphans. 00:30:25.19\00:30:26.52 When the phone connected for the birthday, we said, Chesdit, 00:30:28.12\00:30:32.03 happy birthday, and started singing. 00:30:32.03\00:30:33.96 Immediate tears. 00:30:34.46\00:30:35.40 And you just know and begin to ask, when was the last time 00:30:36.03\00:30:38.80 somebody celebrated a birthday? 00:30:38.80\00:30:39.87 Everybody should have their birthday celebrated. 00:30:40.07\00:30:41.84 That's right. 00:30:41.87\00:30:44.31 Every kid should have their birthday celebrated. 00:30:44.71\00:30:46.78 Absolutely, and what an impact that makes with the young people 00:30:47.48\00:30:51.78 and celebrating them. 00:30:51.78\00:30:52.45 Jason, let's go to Bangladesh. 00:30:52.78\00:30:54.02 Sure. 00:30:54.62\00:30:55.08 I just want to say on this project in Brazil, this is 00:30:56.08\00:31:00.92 really our first international office. 00:31:00.92\00:31:02.09 So this is Child Impact Brazil office and an NGO that Nicole 00:31:02.32\00:31:06.49 has really spearheaded and set up in that country. 00:31:06.49\00:31:08.66 We traditionally support lots of ministries around the world, and 00:31:09.16\00:31:11.60 we're going to continue to do that. 00:31:11.60\00:31:12.77 But this is really kind of a next phase of Child Impact, 00:31:13.03\00:31:16.60 opening up our own country offices. 00:31:16.60\00:31:17.94 And so we're really excited to see how that project continues 00:31:18.07\00:31:20.41 to grow and progress. 00:31:20.41\00:31:20.98 Thank you for bringing that out. 00:31:21.24\00:31:22.88 That's exciting. 00:31:22.98\00:31:26.11 Praise the Lord. 00:31:26.68\00:31:27.35 So we're really excited. 00:31:27.52\00:31:28.42 Bangladesh is one of our newest projects this year. 00:31:28.85\00:31:31.19 In Bangladesh, we have our largest sponsorship program 00:31:31.69\00:31:35.36 right now. There are over 1,200 kids that we sponsor in the 00:31:35.62\00:31:38.36 country of Bangladesh. 00:31:38.36\00:31:38.99 And through our sponsorship program, we start to identify 00:31:39.76\00:31:43.43 needs that these kids have. 00:31:43.43\00:31:44.73 They're coming to school, they're talking to teachers, 00:31:44.80\00:31:47.07 they're talking to other students, and we really get to 00:31:47.07\00:31:49.37 know the kids. And so as we travel and we visit, our partner there also shares with 00:31:50.37\00:31:53.74 us needs that they are finding. 00:31:53.74\00:31:55.11 And they identified a community in a town called Dalat Dia. 00:31:55.61\00:31:59.28 And Dalat Dia has one of the largest brothels in the world. 00:31:59.88\00:32:04.02 In this city. 00:32:04.72\00:32:05.69 It's like the whole city is a brothel. 00:32:05.85\00:32:08.26 And so they said, what can we do to help the kids here who are 00:32:08.56\00:32:12.16 growing up in a brothel town? 00:32:12.16\00:32:14.46 And so we really started brainstorming, discussing 00:32:14.86\00:32:18.23 options, and with our partner there, we've just started a safe 00:32:18.77\00:32:23.41 house inside the brothel. 00:32:23.41\00:32:23.87 And so we challenged the team. 00:32:24.81\00:32:26.07 How was that even possible? 00:32:26.21\00:32:27.31 No offense, but I mean, I don't really know how that works. 00:32:27.51\00:32:30.01 It's a whole city. 00:32:30.01\00:32:31.11 And so it's at a major kind of like a center of transportation 00:32:31.85\00:32:35.85 through the country. 00:32:35.85\00:32:36.62 So lots of truck drivers, ships, everyone stops here. 00:32:36.92\00:32:39.79 1600 prostitutes. 00:32:39.89\00:32:41.52 In this area. 00:32:42.02\00:32:42.79 And how many underage or you don't know? 00:32:42.96\00:32:44.83 The average arrival age is 14. 00:32:45.49\00:32:46.90 But it's illegal. 00:32:47.86\00:32:48.73 And so we said, what can we do for these kids? 00:32:50.23\00:32:53.20 Can you get some of the kids who are currently being trafficked 00:32:54.34\00:32:58.17 out of that situation? 00:32:58.17\00:32:59.01 So they went, they surveyed, and the whole thing is run by, I 00:32:59.37\00:33:02.58 believe it's seven or eight, what they call madams. 00:33:02.58\00:33:05.01 And it's these ladies who control everything in the 00:33:05.88\00:33:09.02 brothel. And we said, hey, can we get some of these younger 00:33:09.05\00:33:13.12 girls out of here, give them an educational opportunity? 00:33:13.46\00:33:14.99 And they refused to let us. 00:33:15.22\00:33:16.59 The parents refused to let them be taken out. 00:33:16.76\00:33:18.96 And we're talking about 13, 14, 15 -year-old girls. 00:33:18.96\00:33:21.63 They said, but you can take their younger siblings and we'll 00:33:22.16\00:33:26.13 let you take them out. 00:33:26.13\00:33:26.77 And so we've just started a safe house. 00:33:27.30\00:33:29.04 We've got ten girls ages 7 to 12 who have grown up their entire 00:33:29.24\00:33:33.51 lives cleaning up after their mom is working, their sister's 00:33:33.51\00:33:37.78 working, these rooms where they're working. 00:33:37.88\00:33:39.38 And now we've gotten them out. 00:33:39.78\00:33:41.25 We've got them into school. 00:33:41.45\00:33:42.48 They're in a safe place. 00:33:42.68\00:33:43.79 And then they just requested this week for us to take ten 00:33:44.12\00:33:48.02 more girls out. 00:33:48.02\00:33:52.09 wanting to give their kids an opportunity to get out this 00:33:52.09\00:33:54.30 lifestyle. 00:33:54.30\00:33:54.83 And so we immediately said yes. 00:33:55.43\00:33:57.23 We haven't budgeted for that. 00:33:57.80\00:33:59.10 But we said we've got to get these kids out because if we 00:33:59.50\00:34:02.87 wait another day, we don't know if the next day they're going to 00:34:02.87\00:34:06.34 go into this type of work. 00:34:06.34\00:34:10.08 And so we've just accepted another ten this week. 00:34:10.51\00:34:13.38 And we're excited about getting them out. 00:34:13.68\00:34:15.38 And then kind of phase two of this is we're going to transfer 00:34:15.78\00:34:18.85 them to one of our Adventist boarding schools to give them an 00:34:18.85\00:34:22.16 Adventist education. 00:34:22.16\00:34:25.06 And we're going to really put them on a whole new path for 00:34:25.36\00:34:28.23 their lives. 00:34:28.23\00:34:31.57 us there in Bangladesh. 00:34:31.57\00:34:32.47 Wow. 00:34:32.57\00:34:34.47 You said you're stepping out by faith obviously because we need 00:34:34.84\00:34:37.51 funds for this project. 00:34:37.51\00:34:38.54 So, Dr. Tom, if people want to support, if they say I want to 00:34:39.11\00:34:42.28 get involved, and we'll talk about this throughout the 00:34:42.28\00:34:44.95 program, but they want to get involved in supporting Operation Child Rescue, can you 00:34:44.95\00:34:48.62 both sponsor a specific project like I want to give for 00:34:48.62\00:34:51.89 Bangladesh or is it just Operation Child Rescue as a 00:34:51.89\00:34:53.99 whole? So we have an umbrella for all of what we do, but 00:34:54.29\00:34:58.33 there's a budget for that. 00:34:58.33\00:35:02.00 And so Jason's literally speaking the truth here when he 00:35:02.40\00:35:06.07 says we're stepping out of faith. 00:35:06.07\00:35:09.84 dollars for ten more girls for the year. 00:35:09.84\00:35:11.94 So we said we have to say yes. 00:35:12.17\00:35:14.11 And so we believe that God will provide that. 00:35:14.18\00:35:16.24 So if someone wants to sponsor right now, I believe our 3 ABN 00:35:16.95\00:35:20.02 viewers are movers and shakers and they you want, you're part 00:35:20.02\00:35:23.55 of the family, but you want to become involved in projects. 00:35:23.55\00:35:25.82 So if the Lord is just putting on your heart right now, you're 00:35:25.95\00:35:29.32 touched by what the Lord is doing through the Ministry of 00:35:29.32\00:35:32.76 Child Impact International. 00:35:32.76\00:35:34.23 You can donate online. 00:35:34.76\00:35:35.96 Can they donate online at childimpact.org. 00:35:36.06\00:35:39.93 Just go to childimpact.org and what would they click on that 00:35:40.24\00:35:45.54 website? Shall we move to Zambia? 00:37:06.05\00:37:07.02 Sure. 00:37:07.29\00:37:10.76 girls. 00:37:10.76\00:37:11.26 And this is in Zambia. 00:37:11.63\00:37:13.23 These are girls that are being trafficked out by the roadside 00:37:13.43\00:37:16.73 selling vegetables. 00:37:16.73\00:37:17.83 Truckers come along and offer, or ask for something else. 00:37:18.27\00:37:21.94 But we initially started this project with 36 girls in a 00:37:22.60\00:37:26.54 rented space. 00:37:26.54\00:37:27.34 And we had a video that we showed here on 3ABN. 00:37:27.88\00:37:32.01 And we had this vision, this dream to build a girls 00:37:32.88\00:37:36.22 dormitory. And one of the listeners to your program here 00:37:36.55\00:37:42.12 on 3ABN sent in a check. 00:37:42.12\00:37:44.76 Oh, praise the Lord. 00:37:44.89\00:37:46.09 And so we wanted to show you a video of the finished dormitory. 00:37:46.09\00:37:48.03 Okay, let's go to that video. 00:37:48.13\00:37:49.06 Made possible by 3ABN. 00:37:49.06\00:37:50.10 Praise the Lord. 00:37:50.17\00:37:51.13 So these are the girls. 00:37:51.87\00:37:52.57 You see they have school uniforms. 00:37:52.63\00:37:54.20 All of them have sponsors. 00:37:54.37\00:37:55.64 And this is the dormitory. 00:37:56.50\00:37:57.37 And that's the dorm right there. 00:37:57.41\00:37:58.44 Wow. 00:37:59.54\00:37:59.57 That's incredible. 00:38:01.38\00:38:02.08 It's beautiful, isn't it? 00:38:02.28\00:38:03.21 It's amazing. 00:38:03.24\00:38:03.65 Praise the Lord. 00:38:03.68\00:38:04.51 Thank you. 00:38:04.68\00:38:08.38 in what God is doing through Child Impact International. 00:38:08.38\00:38:11.22 Thank you for getting involved and sponsoring this. 00:38:11.49\00:38:13.96 So you have a hundred girls. 00:38:14.16\00:38:15.09 Yeah. 00:38:15.32\00:38:18.13 This first one is a silhouette, really. 00:38:18.13\00:38:21.30 It's a screen capture from a video. 00:38:21.63\00:38:23.50 And we were actually, we asked this young lady to reenact what 00:38:24.17\00:38:28.70 happens when they go to the roadside to sell vegetables. 00:38:28.70\00:38:31.17 And as she was reenacting this, she was approached by a truck 00:38:31.57\00:38:35.61 driver and solicited for prostitution. 00:38:35.61\00:38:37.58 Oh. 00:38:37.91\00:38:38.68 So we just kept the camera going. 00:38:38.68\00:38:38.71 And so that reenactment turned out to be a real life situation. 00:38:40.15\00:38:44.35 Solicitation. 00:38:44.42\00:38:44.45 Right. 00:38:44.92\00:38:47.86 And what's the age of the girls? 00:38:47.92\00:38:49.06 They'll be like 13 to 16 year olds. 00:38:49.72\00:38:52.09 Yeah. 00:38:52.73\00:38:53.16 So that's the average age. 00:38:53.36\00:38:54.36 What has been very significant for me in the next photo shows a 00:38:55.06\00:38:58.77 home visit. 00:38:58.77\00:39:02.84 girls come from. 00:39:02.84\00:39:03.74 What is their circumstance? 00:39:03.77\00:39:04.97 And so this young girl that you see in the school uniform grew 00:39:05.71\00:39:10.08 up living in this hut. 00:39:10.08\00:39:11.25 I had to duck quite a bit to get up underneath there. 00:39:11.81\00:39:14.92 And when you get inside you look up and you see holes in the 00:39:15.12\00:39:18.52 thatch so you know that they get wet when it rains. 00:39:18.52\00:39:20.19 And they happen to have a mattress in this particular hut. 00:39:20.39\00:39:23.83 But the springs are popping out. 00:39:24.26\00:39:26.06 And so this mother has, someone has helped her to be able to get 00:39:26.43\00:39:30.67 a new home. 00:39:30.67\00:39:31.20 And also now her daughter is safe and is sponsored. 00:39:32.03\00:39:34.24 And so she literally wanted to show us how to do a happy dance. 00:39:34.34\00:39:38.17 And she was singing and clapping and dancing. 00:39:38.67\00:39:41.14 And I started doing moves I didn't know I could do. 00:39:41.18\00:39:43.21 And I don't know if it'll pass for a 3 ABN video. 00:39:43.78\00:39:46.21 But we'll try. 00:39:46.21\00:39:46.92 Oh yay! 00:39:47.18\00:39:47.78 Do we have a video of this? 00:39:47.98\00:39:48.62 It's coming. 00:39:48.78\00:39:49.42 It's coming. 00:39:49.62\00:39:49.82 Oh! 00:39:50.55\00:39:50.79 Okay. 00:39:50.85\00:39:51.85 I'll let you know when we submit it. 00:39:51.85\00:39:53.66 So you can edit it if you need to. 00:39:53.66\00:39:55.76 That sounds super exciting. 00:39:56.16\00:39:57.33 We had a bit of fun with it. 00:39:57.39\00:39:58.79 But most touching to me, this next picture here. 00:39:59.59\00:40:02.63 There are a couple stories of girls Mary and Sharon. 00:40:03.53\00:40:06.77 Mary there with me in the picture her uncle standing next 00:40:07.20\00:40:12.21 to me. She was orphaned at 4 years old. 00:40:12.54\00:40:14.94 And nobody told her what happened to her parents. 00:40:16.21\00:40:18.35 So all these years she's not known. 00:40:18.68\00:40:20.22 She is number 15 of the children that her uncle and aunt raised. 00:40:20.45\00:40:24.35 But her aunt also passed away. 00:40:24.42\00:40:26.19 So she's the last of 15 children. 00:40:26.35\00:40:28.36 Six biological children. 00:40:28.46\00:40:29.72 But he had to raise children from other relatives. 00:40:29.76\00:40:31.76 And so she sponsoring her, I got to talk with her and she 00:40:32.83\00:40:37.50 mentioned she didn't know what happened to her parents. 00:40:37.50\00:40:39.60 And I said, do you think that you're old enough to know now? 00:40:39.60\00:40:42.44 And she said yes. 00:40:42.77\00:40:43.67 But I think she's afraid to ask. 00:40:43.67\00:40:45.37 She said, can you ask my uncle? 00:40:45.44\00:40:47.08 So we went to her house and I said, uncle, I know that Mary 00:40:47.91\00:40:52.75 doesn't know what happened to her parents and she needs to be 00:40:52.75\00:40:56.95 a certain age. Do you think that's something she can know 00:40:57.19\00:40:59.39 about now? So we immediately shared with her. 00:40:59.75\00:41:01.29 Her dad got her mom pregnant and left. 00:41:01.56\00:41:03.86 They found out that he passed away shortly thereafter. 00:41:04.03\00:41:06.29 But the mom was out cutting brush out in the bush and a tree 00:41:06.90\00:41:12.47 fell on top of her. 00:41:12.47\00:41:13.50 And there was a little girl there was not able to get the 00:41:13.90\00:41:16.34 tree off and her mother passed away. 00:41:16.34\00:41:17.51 And of course when Mary heard this immediately the tears came. 00:41:17.57\00:41:20.54 But I think for her it marks the opportunity to start a journey 00:41:20.84\00:41:24.48 of healing. 00:41:24.48\00:41:24.95 But there's another photo that is one that really caused me 00:41:25.91\00:41:30.22 quite an emotional response in that same slide. 00:41:30.22\00:41:34.22 If we can bring that back up. 00:41:34.29\00:41:35.62 This is on the right there is a girl by the name of Sharon. 00:41:36.42\00:41:39.83 Do you see how happy Sharon looks? 00:41:39.86\00:41:41.03 Look at that smile! 00:41:41.40\00:41:42.56 She literally glows. 00:41:43.06\00:41:44.37 And next to Sharon is her sister. 00:41:44.73\00:41:46.13 One year ago Sharon was one of those first 36 girls that came 00:41:46.84\00:41:51.51 to our school there that we support. 00:41:51.51\00:41:53.21 And she was traumatized. 00:41:53.88\00:41:55.51 She had been trafficked. 00:41:56.41\00:41:57.68 But her mom had tried to intervene on her behalf. 00:41:58.01\00:42:02.38 The father had run up a debt and the creditor wanted Sharon in 00:42:02.55\00:42:07.19 exchange for the debt. 00:42:07.19\00:42:08.09 The mother said no you can't have her. 00:42:08.96\00:42:10.43 I remember that story. 00:42:10.63\00:42:11.59 So the mother was about ready to be put in jail. 00:42:11.59\00:42:13.96 But now the father had taken off and they want both daughters in 00:42:14.00\00:42:17.63 exchange for the debt. 00:42:17.63\00:42:18.57 So child impact intervened. 00:42:19.37\00:42:20.70 We covered the debt. 00:42:20.94\00:42:21.97 We got the mom a bike so she could get to work more rapidly. 00:42:22.14\00:42:24.84 But when I came to the school and I met this young lady I said 00:42:25.84\00:42:29.61 I recognize you. 00:42:29.61\00:42:30.51 What's your name? 00:42:31.11\00:42:32.05 But I didn't realize it was Sharon. 00:42:32.88\00:42:34.58 She said I'm Sharon. 00:42:34.68\00:42:35.65 And I was floored. 00:42:35.82\00:42:37.29 Night and day from where she was one year ago. 00:42:38.02\00:42:40.79 I went back to the vehicle and I cried. 00:42:40.86\00:42:42.89 It just hit me so hard. 00:42:43.89\00:42:45.76 What a difference one year can make. 00:42:45.76\00:42:48.00 When a girl is in a safe place when she knows her family is 00:42:48.16\00:42:52.43 safe she can begin to thrive. 00:42:52.43\00:42:55.64 It's just unbelievable. 00:42:55.87\00:42:56.64 So I was there with Tom when we met her and her mom. 00:42:58.11\00:43:01.81 We brought them outside of town and kind of met under this tree 00:43:02.24\00:43:06.55 just outside of town because we didn't want to cause a big 00:43:06.55\00:43:09.08 scene. We're giving her mom a new bike. 00:43:09.55\00:43:10.62 We didn't want anyone to take it. 00:43:11.02\00:43:12.75 And I can remember when we took the money to her. 00:43:12.89\00:43:15.32 Do you remember how much it was? 00:43:15.39\00:43:16.39 $411. 00:43:16.99\00:43:17.46 $411 is what the price was that this man was going to take these 00:43:18.69\00:43:22.76 two girls for. 00:43:22.76\00:43:23.70 He was going to sell them as child brides and probably try to 00:43:24.10\00:43:27.34 get a lot of goats and cows in exchange to pay off this debt 00:43:27.34\00:43:31.41 from her parents. 00:43:31.41\00:43:31.67 So $411 for us is nothing. 00:43:32.21\00:43:34.14 Of course. 00:43:34.24\00:43:34.71 We want to protect her. 00:43:35.91\00:43:36.95 We want to keep her in school. 00:43:36.95\00:43:38.18 And that's just the price of a life there. 00:43:38.88\00:43:41.05 And immediately I thought of the story of Elisha in the widow 00:43:41.05\00:43:45.89 with the two sons. 00:43:45.89\00:43:46.62 And their dad died. 00:43:47.12\00:43:48.46 He was one of the prophets. 00:43:48.49\00:43:49.59 And there we have the miracle of the oil continually being poured 00:43:50.53\00:43:54.03 out so that she could keep her two sons from being sold to the 00:43:54.03\00:43:57.77 creditor for her husband's debt. 00:43:57.77\00:43:58.97 And so we can see what was happening in Bible times still 00:43:59.43\00:44:02.14 happening around the world today. 00:44:02.14\00:44:03.64 Amen. 00:44:04.54\00:44:04.94 Amen. 00:44:05.21\00:44:05.81 God is the God of miracles. 00:44:05.87\00:44:06.74 See the miracles still take place. 00:44:07.34\00:44:08.84 It's so beautiful to be able to say to these girls, we are so 00:44:08.84\00:44:12.41 proud of you. 00:44:12.41\00:44:12.75 Yes. 00:44:13.42\00:44:13.95 And we are. 00:44:14.22\00:44:14.78 It's amazing. 00:44:14.92\00:44:15.75 Yeah. 00:44:16.35\00:44:18.82 What factors do you think are involved in that healing? 00:44:20.36\00:44:23.76 Because all of these kids, girls, or boys have experienced 00:44:23.86\00:44:27.36 extreme trauma. 00:44:27.36\00:44:27.86 Yeah. 00:44:27.86\00:44:28.36 So what factors into that healing? 00:44:28.70\00:44:31.70 Yeah. 00:44:32.10\00:44:35.84 place where the abuse will not continue to happen. 00:44:35.84\00:44:37.94 You're safe. 00:44:38.61\00:44:39.34 Feeling safe, knowing that you're in a safe environment. 00:44:39.81\00:44:41.98 And I think one thing that we all know that's very healing is 00:44:42.51\00:44:45.35 love. So when these children are placed in a location where they 00:44:46.01\00:44:49.62 are loved and where they can understand their value, understand somebody might 00:44:49.62\00:44:54.72 have sold them for $400. 00:44:54.72\00:44:56.76 But somebody gave so much more for them. 00:44:57.46\00:44:59.36 The blood of Jesus was given for them. 00:44:59.53\00:45:01.43 So when you are able to understand your value in Christ, 00:45:01.43\00:45:03.80 I believe that's also very healing. 00:45:03.80\00:45:05.03 No, and I've heard Jason, you've shared that really full healing 00:45:05.03\00:45:09.47 can't happen without Jesus. 00:45:09.47\00:45:11.51 I agree. 00:45:11.77\00:45:11.94 Yeah. 00:45:12.07\00:45:17.58 services to anyone, no matter their religious background. 00:45:17.58\00:45:21.42 But we really believe that how can someone overcome the trauma 00:45:21.88\00:45:25.85 that these kids have experienced without being introduced to the 00:45:25.85\00:45:29.69 healer. And so we have that as an integrated part in all of our 00:45:29.69\00:45:32.63 projects that kids have the opportunity to learn about 00:45:32.63\00:45:36.03 Jesus. And Jill, while I was there, 31 teenagers were 00:45:36.36\00:45:39.10 baptized. Really? 00:45:39.67\00:45:40.17 Now were they all from the girls in the dormitory? 00:45:40.94\00:45:43.04 Most of them. 00:45:43.27\00:45:43.67 Most of them. 00:45:43.67\00:45:43.71 Yeah, probably 25 of them. 00:45:44.51\00:45:46.54 There were a few boys that got baptized too. 00:45:46.94\00:45:48.41 Yes. 00:45:49.51\00:45:49.64 Praise the Lord. 00:45:49.94\00:45:50.85 That's incredible. 00:45:50.85\00:45:52.01 And that followed 45 that had been baptized a couple months 00:45:52.28\00:45:55.25 prior. So God is working powerfully. 00:45:56.28\00:45:57.82 Saving them both from their physical harm they've been 00:45:58.39\00:46:01.26 through but giving them hope beyond this life. 00:46:01.26\00:46:03.76 And I think one of our partners that says when you have hope you 00:46:04.19\00:46:07.00 have enough. 00:46:07.00\00:46:07.46 That's right. 00:46:07.56\00:46:08.13 That's right. 00:46:08.20\00:46:09.10 And that spiritual healing leads to that emotional healing. 00:46:09.36\00:46:12.53 Absolutely. 00:46:12.77\00:46:13.30 I love that. 00:46:13.90\00:46:14.70 We have some more stories from Zambia. 00:46:15.04\00:46:16.84 So we have an interesting project. 00:46:17.04\00:46:18.87 This next photo is of an aerial view of an island. 00:46:19.17\00:46:22.04 And it looks beautiful from the air, but this is these are 00:46:22.54\00:46:26.28 shacks. Oh really? 00:46:26.35\00:46:27.12 And there is no proper sanitation on this island. 00:46:27.42\00:46:30.32 People just go out in the bush. 00:46:31.35\00:46:32.52 There's no medical care. 00:46:32.72\00:46:33.96 The kids that live on this island have not gone to school 00:46:34.16\00:46:36.69 one day in their life. 00:46:36.69\00:46:37.26 And so this is very remote. 00:46:37.66\00:46:39.66 And so we took a land cruiser a couple hours, a boat for a 00:46:39.89\00:46:43.97 couple hours. 00:46:43.97\00:46:44.80 And so immediately when I stepped on this island over a 00:46:45.40\00:46:48.20 year ago I said you know we need to do something here to make a 00:46:48.20\00:46:50.64 difference. 00:46:50.64\00:46:54.78 And so we discovered that there are 28 islands like this. 00:46:55.58\00:46:59.15 28? 00:46:59.78\00:46:59.95 Yeah, 28. 00:47:00.22\00:47:01.05 And so I want to show you another picture. 00:47:01.18\00:47:02.32 This is how they survive on these islands. 00:47:02.42\00:47:05.09 Everybody has to get used to the water. 00:47:05.89\00:47:07.86 And so the next photo shows how they survive with food. 00:47:08.29\00:47:11.09 That's fish. 00:47:11.36\00:47:12.09 All of that is fish? 00:47:13.60\00:47:14.56 Yeah, they catch a lot of fish. 00:47:14.56\00:47:15.70 I'm not sure how many vegetables they have in their diet, but 00:47:16.00\00:47:18.83 they do catch a lot of fish. 00:47:18.83\00:47:19.73 And so do they sell these or this is just to eat? 00:47:19.90\00:47:22.00 Eat and I'm sure they trade, you know, do some trading with it. 00:47:22.24\00:47:25.44 But there's, I mean, extreme poverty there of course. 00:47:25.57\00:47:27.58 And this is the only life that most of them know. 00:47:27.98\00:47:31.45 And so on this most recent visit I wanted to meet a child bride. 00:47:31.98\00:47:39.15 And so I said take me to the home of somebody that was 00:47:39.62\00:47:43.09 married at 12 years old. 00:47:43.09\00:47:43.63 And so that's the next photo here I believe. 00:47:44.19\00:47:46.26 Yep, so that's Christine. 00:47:48.23\00:47:49.53 When she was 12, her fisherman, her 19 year old fisherman 00:47:50.40\00:47:54.60 boyfriend got her pregnant. 00:47:54.60\00:47:55.30 And so one night he came to her parents home and he stole her 00:47:56.20\00:47:59.57 away in the night. 00:47:59.57\00:48:01.08 And she was 12? 00:48:01.48\00:48:02.24 12, and pregnant. 00:48:02.41\00:48:03.35 And so he stole her away. 00:48:04.25\00:48:05.48 They disappear for a couple weeks and then they come back 00:48:05.75\00:48:08.98 and ask for the blessing of the family to get married. 00:48:08.98\00:48:10.75 And so this is kind of standard practice. 00:48:11.15\00:48:13.19 So that's how everybody gets married. 00:48:13.36\00:48:14.52 She's 13 and pregnant now. 00:48:14.52\00:48:15.89 The tragedy of what the conversation went like there 00:48:16.79\00:48:21.06 with her was, you know, what would you like to do? 00:48:21.06\00:48:23.67 What are your goals for your life? 00:48:23.73\00:48:24.97 I want to be a nurse. 00:48:25.33\00:48:26.23 The chance of Christine being a nurse zero. 00:48:27.30\00:48:29.80 Zero chance. 00:48:31.04\00:48:32.01 And so as we look at that we say is there a possibility that we 00:48:33.31\00:48:38.28 can somehow intervene in a scenario like this that is the 00:48:38.28\00:48:42.78 reality for all the kids growing up here on an island like this, 00:48:42.78\00:48:47.16 so isolated. We know that some of these kids are brilliant. 00:48:47.86\00:48:50.23 We also know that every one of them deserves some kind of a 00:48:50.89\00:48:53.80 chance. And so we begin to wonder how do we reach these 00:48:54.73\00:48:58.00 villages? And so one day Jason had a brilliant idea and I 00:48:58.23\00:49:01.34 laughed at him. 00:49:01.34\00:49:02.47 Should have done that. 00:49:02.87\00:49:03.67 I take it back. 00:49:03.81\00:49:04.51 So there are hundreds of people on these islands. 00:49:05.14\00:49:07.31 I think on that island what was there? 00:49:07.74\00:49:09.28 500 or 600 people? 00:49:09.34\00:49:10.31 They told me 622. 00:49:10.38\00:49:11.75 And how many of those are kids? 00:49:12.08\00:49:12.95 Over half of them are kids. 00:49:13.01\00:49:14.48 Again, who've never been to school a day in their life. 00:49:14.75\00:49:16.89 They've never been to church. 00:49:16.89\00:49:18.35 There are no healthcare facilities. 00:49:18.52\00:49:19.99 I mean there's nothing but the water. 00:49:20.46\00:49:21.96 It's like a marshland. 00:49:21.96\00:49:23.12 And so we were like how can we reach these kids? 00:49:23.49\00:49:26.29 It's hours and hours to even get to the island. 00:49:26.70\00:49:29.96 To one island. 00:49:29.96\00:49:30.40 Yeah, to one island. 00:49:30.50\00:49:31.40 Oh wow. 00:49:31.43\00:49:35.20 almost 30 other islands along the Kafui River. 00:49:35.20\00:49:38.24 And so to place missionaries on those islands there's no way 00:49:38.67\00:49:41.78 that we could support them. 00:49:41.78\00:49:42.78 So we were brainstorming all kinds of different ideas. 00:49:43.35\00:49:45.61 And then we said what about a float plane? 00:49:45.98\00:49:47.68 You said. 00:49:47.72\00:49:48.18 And that's when you laughed. 00:49:48.92\00:49:50.05 Yes. 00:49:51.02\00:49:52.55 We thought about a helicopter. 00:49:53.22\00:49:54.56 We thought about a speedboat. 00:49:54.82\00:49:56.52 Is this a float plane? 00:49:56.76\00:49:57.46 Oh look at that. 00:49:57.56\00:49:58.26 That is the float plane. 00:49:58.26\00:49:59.16 This is the child impact float plane. 00:49:59.26\00:50:01.80 See it's blue and white. 00:50:01.90\00:50:02.76 Look at that, even the colors. 00:50:02.86\00:50:03.70 So you got a float plane. 00:50:03.80\00:50:05.10 So we bought a float plane. 00:50:05.13\00:50:06.03 We still owe a little bit of money on it. 00:50:06.07\00:50:07.54 Okay. 00:50:07.67\00:50:08.07 Yeah. 00:50:08.17\00:50:11.17 And everyone said if you want to do planes there's another 00:50:12.01\00:50:16.38 ministry you need to talk to. 00:50:16.38\00:50:16.98 It's called Angel One. 00:50:17.08\00:50:18.15 That's right. 00:50:18.38\00:50:18.81 Angel One is an Adventist aviation ministry. 00:50:19.38\00:50:21.38 They are. 00:50:22.15\00:50:23.59 It's an incredible ministry. 00:50:23.75\00:50:24.82 They said you need to meet these guys. 00:50:24.89\00:50:26.05 I said well I don't know anyone at Angel One. 00:50:26.12\00:50:27.66 They said I was talking to a friend. 00:50:27.79\00:50:29.26 He said I know someone. 00:50:29.39\00:50:30.49 And I think he's in Georgia just down the street from us at a 00:50:30.59\00:50:34.40 convention. 00:50:34.40\00:50:35.06 They called him up and he said I can meet you in an hour. 00:50:35.53\00:50:38.50 Wow. 00:50:38.83\00:50:39.20 And so I jumped in my car. 00:50:39.47\00:50:41.04 Drove like Jehu. 00:50:41.07\00:50:41.74 We went for a walk and he said this is exactly the type of 00:50:44.04\00:50:47.98 ministry that Angel One does. 00:50:47.98\00:50:48.91 If you can find half the money we'll put up the other half as a 00:50:49.21\00:50:52.55 match. 00:50:52.55\00:50:52.88 So we're still finding our half. 00:50:53.55\00:50:54.92 Okay. 00:50:55.62\00:50:56.08 Well we are on 3 ABN. 00:50:56.18\00:50:57.82 So this is another opportunity. 00:50:57.95\00:50:59.35 So what do we still need to find? 00:51:00.12\00:51:00.99 Float planes are expensive. 00:51:01.36\00:51:02.32 Because you have to buy special floats. 00:51:02.76\00:51:04.76 They have to take off and land in short runways. 00:51:05.19\00:51:07.56 And so this started growing and it became a $500,000 project. 00:51:07.86\00:51:11.80 Oh wow. 00:51:12.17\00:51:12.57 Angel One said we'll put up half. 00:51:13.27\00:51:14.70 We guys raised the other half and we praise the Lord we've 00:51:14.80\00:51:18.01 raised $115,000 so far toward this project. 00:51:18.01\00:51:21.44 And so we don't have much left. 00:51:22.01\00:51:23.78 Just a little over $100,000 to get to our half. 00:51:23.85\00:51:26.92 But we've stepped out in faith. 00:51:27.78\00:51:28.95 We've bought the plane. 00:51:29.12\00:51:30.09 It's currently being equipped. 00:51:30.32\00:51:31.52 And you know the miracle of all of this is that at Riverside a 00:51:31.95\00:51:36.99 new missionary family just moved there to begin doing medical 00:51:36.99\00:51:40.73 work. It just so happens that the guy doing medical work is 00:51:41.33\00:51:45.03 also a pilot. That is divine providence. 00:51:46.17\00:51:47.30 It is. 00:51:47.50\00:51:47.90 He's an airplane pilot. 00:51:48.07\00:51:49.37 He's an airplane mechanic. 00:51:49.70\00:51:50.87 And he's a nurse practitioner. 00:51:51.54\00:51:52.71 And so he can support these islands with medical care and 00:51:53.31\00:51:56.88 then we can take missionaries from our education program at 00:51:56.88\00:52:01.02 Riverside to place them on all of these islands. 00:52:01.02\00:52:02.68 So these girls becoming missionaries that are being 00:52:02.68\00:52:05.02 rescued. 00:52:05.02\00:52:05.15 Right. 00:52:05.75\00:52:06.22 That's incredible. 00:52:06.69\00:52:08.12 It's amazing how God has led through the partnership with 00:52:08.52\00:52:11.26 Angel One, through the staff at Riverside, and just opening so 00:52:11.26\00:52:15.03 many doors to get us to this place. 00:52:15.03\00:52:16.40 And we just can't wait to get started on this project. 00:52:16.67\00:52:20.00 What an incredible project. 00:52:21.14\00:52:22.50 I love that. 00:52:22.70\00:52:23.54 That's a God-ordained idea. 00:52:23.81\00:52:26.04 And we hope that churches may want to adopt a whole island and 00:52:26.74\00:52:29.84 maybe we can name that island after the church that adopts it. 00:52:29.84\00:52:32.68 So this is kind of our longer-term vision for it. 00:52:32.68\00:52:34.98 Do one island at a time and see where God opens doors. 00:52:34.98\00:52:38.19 Which island are you starting with? 00:52:38.49\00:52:39.72 The one that we had the aerial view of. 00:52:40.12\00:52:41.42 We'll start with that one. 00:52:41.59\00:52:45.46 So we have a head start because that can also be the literacy 00:52:45.53\00:52:47.93 school. 00:52:47.93\00:52:52.53 And there's lots of people around the bar and there's 00:52:52.93\00:52:55.30 nobody at the church. 00:52:55.30\00:52:57.87 So if we turn that into a literacy school during the week 00:52:57.87\00:52:57.91 I think it will be a real blessing. 00:53:01.58\00:53:02.28 They do have a pathfinder club there. 00:53:02.44\00:53:03.68 But that one island had a little bit of attention but still huge 00:53:03.68\00:53:03.71 neglect in terms of education and health care and so on. 00:53:07.85\00:53:10.45 So this means they have an Adventist presence on that 00:53:10.45\00:53:12.52 island if they're having pathfinders. 00:53:12.52\00:53:13.72 Yeah. 00:53:13.89\00:53:14.49 There but not the other places. 00:53:14.59\00:53:16.06 Not the other islands. 00:53:16.26\00:53:16.79 Okay. 00:53:17.19\00:53:20.30 She was pregnant and they ran away. 00:53:20.33\00:53:21.66 Is she on this island or is she different? 00:53:21.93\00:53:23.60 Oh, she is on this island. 00:53:23.67\00:53:24.87 Okay. 00:53:25.43\00:53:29.64 they want to help donate toward the float plane? 00:53:29.64\00:53:32.94 Sure. 00:53:33.74\00:53:35.04 Okay. 00:53:35.64\00:53:35.71 Yay. 00:53:35.91\00:53:36.24 Hopefully we have that. 00:53:36.78\00:53:37.65 Okay. 00:53:37.81\00:53:38.11 This is on your website? 00:53:38.98\00:53:39.95 It's on our website. 00:53:40.18\00:53:40.98 We have the Zambia Project float plane. 00:53:40.98\00:53:42.98 Okay. 00:53:43.18\00:53:46.22 Or you can call the office of course at 4239-100-667. 00:53:47.36\00:53:51.63 But Jill you should know in that river there are lots of 00:53:52.03\00:53:55.50 crocodiles. And there are hippos. 00:53:55.90\00:53:57.23 So we heard some stories while we were there. 00:53:57.23\00:54:01.54 And so the children are told not to swim. 00:54:01.94\00:54:04.11 Yeah. 00:54:04.37\00:54:04.97 So Are they afraid of the water? 00:54:05.07\00:54:06.84 I think probably that's the reality. 00:54:07.38\00:54:09.38 But the fishermen are very brave. 00:54:09.54\00:54:11.28 They go out. 00:54:11.48\00:54:12.35 One fisherman told me that one night a crocodile flipped his 00:54:12.75\00:54:17.32 canoe. 00:54:17.32\00:54:21.39 over the head of the crocodile. 00:54:21.39\00:54:22.59 And those that were nearby were able to come and rescue them 00:54:23.46\00:54:26.06 before the crocodile got the jacket off. 00:54:26.06\00:54:27.40 I've never heard such a crazy story. 00:54:27.56\00:54:28.70 I've never heard of that. 00:54:28.80\00:54:29.93 They said someone else, a hippo, chased them out of the water. 00:54:30.70\00:54:33.47 And they had to run up a tree to get away from the hippo. 00:54:33.90\00:54:36.04 But hippos are the most dangerous of the African 00:54:36.24\00:54:38.51 animals. They're aggressive then if they're chasing out of the 00:54:38.94\00:54:41.31 water. So we hope our float plane doesn't land on a crocodile or hippo. 00:54:42.24\00:54:45.78 So we need protection and safety for the float plane too. 00:54:46.38\00:54:48.85 We need prayers for that too. 00:54:48.95\00:54:50.49 Absolutely. 00:54:51.02\00:54:57.03 want to donate for any of the projects with Operation Child 00:54:57.03\00:55:00.20 Rescue or specifically for the float plane you go under 00:55:00.20\00:55:04.33 projects. Is that correct? 00:55:04.33\00:55:05.23 And look for Zambia and it's the float plane under that. 00:55:05.47\00:55:07.40 Okay. 00:55:07.94\00:55:13.31 423 -910-0667 That number again is 423-910-0667 We believe in 00:55:13.31\00:55:26.12 what God is doing in and through Child Impact. 00:55:26.12\00:55:27.82 I love these stories. 00:55:27.99\00:55:32.69 bring hope and healing and transformation. 00:55:32.69\00:55:36.03 Recognizing your identity in Christ. 00:55:36.46\00:55:38.40 Recognizing that you can be safe. 00:55:38.50\00:55:40.30 That you are loved and that you can be whole and find healing in 00:55:40.74\00:55:47.18 Jesus. So that is incredible. 00:55:47.28\00:55:48.81 I love that. 00:55:48.98\00:55:49.94 Praise the Lord. 00:55:49.98\00:55:55.38 have a full second hour. 00:55:55.38\00:55:57.19 Tell us what we're going to hear about in the second hour. 00:55:57.29\00:55:59.79 What countries are we going to? 00:55:59.82\00:56:00.92 Well I'm excited about the second hour because every July 00:56:01.32\00:56:05.69 30 we pick a project. 00:56:05.69\00:56:10.73 Against Human Trafficking. 00:56:10.73\00:56:11.67 And so this is actually the first time for us to announce 00:56:12.33\00:56:16.71 publicly what the project will be for this year. 00:56:16.71\00:56:18.91 We've had it planned for some time. 00:56:19.87\00:56:21.61 But last year's project we'll start with because now that is 00:56:22.48\00:56:26.08 well underway. 00:56:26.08\00:56:26.48 It's a year underway. 00:56:26.65\00:56:27.28 Last year's project I think was Columbia. 00:56:27.68\00:56:29.72 That's right. 00:56:30.02\00:56:30.42 So we'll talk about Columbia first and then we'll move to our 00:56:31.32\00:56:33.62 new project for this year. 00:56:33.62\00:56:34.69 Amen. 00:56:35.52\00:56:39.96 stood up there in Hazareth quoting from Isaiah that the 00:56:39.96\00:56:43.77 Spirit of the Lord is upon me and he has anointed me to bring that deliverance set at 00:56:43.77\00:56:49.17 liberty those who are bound. 00:56:49.17\00:56:50.51 And what an incredible, to me that's the theme of Child 00:56:50.81\00:56:53.34 Impact. I'm not sure if you would say that's your theme, but 00:56:53.51\00:56:56.75 it is indeed. 00:56:56.75\00:56:57.68 And so to me that is the theme of Child Impact because there 00:56:58.15\00:57:00.92 are people everywhere who are broken. 00:57:00.92\00:57:03.59 People who are lost. 00:57:03.75\00:57:04.89 People who are alone. 00:57:04.99\00:57:06.55 People who need Jesus. 00:57:06.96\00:57:09.56 And Jesus came to set us free. 00:57:10.13\00:57:12.33 To open up those blind eyes. 00:57:12.73\00:57:15.00 To relieve those who are oppressed. 00:57:15.73\00:57:18.97 To set the captives free. 00:57:19.50\00:57:21.24 And there's children who are all over the world who are 00:57:21.60\00:57:25.54 oppressed. Who are captive. 00:57:26.11\00:57:27.84 Held against their will and yet Jesus wants to set them free. 00:57:28.24\00:57:32.71 And break those bands of wickedness. 00:57:33.01\00:57:34.82 We know we live in a sin sick world but Jesus is on the throne 00:57:34.88\00:57:39.12 and he is more powerful and he's using ministries like Child 00:57:39.12\00:57:43.12 Impact to set them free. 00:57:43.12\00:57:43.76 Don't go anywhere we'll be right back. 00:57:43.96\00:57:45.96
