they they feel this to where,

many other needs. And and it's

sometimes can be overwhelming
for people because they don't

with everything and that that

feeling of wanting to help
but not having the resources is

we were just doing food at the

year. That's why he was in the

eating and drinking the stroke

caused could like stay open.

time. And, you know, I had some

roommates and I'm like

we've got to help this guy.
He know he can't even eat or

drink. He's out there, you
know, just got released from

the hospital. So so we took
him in and for about a year,

he was with me for about a year
00:03:40.15\00:03:42.15
and eventually we were able
to get them into housing after
00:03:42.15\00:03:47.62
that year period. And he had
a business, actually all this
00:03:47.62\00:03:51.36
equipment was in storage.

So we didn't. And the home that
was your business. Yes, that's

right. Yeah, that's right.
Oh, I remember that. So so

yeah, he we brought all his
T-shirt, printing equipment,

his computer, all that stuff in
the special room in the House.

He was able to get as business
up and going guys first check I

one of the hardest times in my

very difficult to bring someone

experiencing homelessness and

and to not be fully trained and
know how to, you know, respond

I'm grateful I experienced it

it to help with the organization

was 20 years old. And I remember

somehow. And I was just there
in my car on the driver's seat,

like just crying out to God.
I wasn't even sure I believe

then like, why is this
happening to me? Why am I going

through this? And, you
know, after becoming a Christian

thing that that God is using to

What were some of the greatest

challenges that you didn't meet
its beginning of the ministry?

and ministries and and they ask

biggest challenges was that was

a there was always a lack
of consistency. You know, when

you're working with volunteers,
you know, not all the time or

people showing up, you might
be county on people for certain

things and they might not
come through in our or whatever.

And and so I think one of the
biggest challenge was that kind

of like,

you know, there were
times where we were get ready,

a fee to 300 people. And and,
you know, East side and Kathy

there on our team still intends
to this day. But they were they

would be forced to to cook all
of the food for 2 to 300 people

on their own in their homes and
bring it to their to to feed.

Because we just we we didn't
have anyone at that time to

help. And so those were some
rough patches that we've gone

through. But, you know, we
couldn't we didn't give up.

We continue going. You know,
it was hard. It was tough. There

were many tough moments like
that. But staying consistent,

you know, I think God blessed
that consistency demand meant.

hour, what they did, they began
feeding program and they may be

canned surveying the homeless
to find out what they need

needed. So they went from
the feeding program to having at

clothing truck, but heres
people that maybe not have
00:08:11.92\00:08:15.46
showered for 3 months. So they
got a shower track where people
00:08:15.46\00:08:21.16
can go in. It York actually
happened, Barbara, that comes

making they could do shape.
They can get a haircut that
00:08:25.57\00:08:28.94
made it their shower, put
on their clean clothes. Then

they've got case management.
So mental health services face.

I mean, they're
meeting physical mental. But my
00:08:38.05\00:08:40.58
favorite part is the spiritual
that that you couldn't really

be effective with the
spiritual if you wore.

know, I I tell people because
the spicher care team, our

pastors have I believe one of
the hardest jobs in the world,

because like most challenging,

imagine having a congregation,

thousands of people, they're
all experiencing homelessness.

that that for any pastor

homeless, my aunt or a church

serve this person? But they have

and I see words and read in the

And I see the most read off
the summit on them out. And I'm

know, as I read, I start to
realize these are Jesus words,

right? And I'm reading the
sermon on the Mount Matthew 5,

6, 7, start to give me a piece
I had never felt before and I

started to feel a purpose.
You know, I started to feel

like maybe there's more to this
life and what I what I thought,

you know. And and that's when
I just started just really going

down that, you know, just all
I heard about this, Adam and Eve

story, let me read about I
mean, I heard about David and

whole life. You know, I start

reading the stories until
finally got to the point where

I needed to. There were
things I was worried. I didn't

understand. I wanted to
understand that by wasn't fully

understanding. So I reached
out to friends when you are

Christian and they and I do
Bible studies with them so they

can teach me what the
Bible saying in these different

you know, eventually I just

And, you know, there's a lot
that happened in between there

you know, that you can
identify, you know, and and

some some people might
say, well, that commonality is

addiction or mental illness.
And and, you know, the in the

U.S. only about a
quarter of people experiencing
00:13:25.80\00:13:28.70
homelessness have a severe
mental illness or something
00:13:28.70\00:13:32.37
like that, you know, and so
the other 75%, there's other
00:13:32.37\00:13:35.88
reasons there, you know. And so,

you know, when you look
at it, like, for example,

you know, people my experience
homelessness because of an

episode of mental illness or
episode of Addiction or maybe

it's an eviction or maybe it's
a loss of job. All those things

play a factor, right?

But the common denominator
really is not having anyone in

their life that's able or
willing to support them when

they go through that mental
health episode. When they go

through that addictive episode,
when they go to that a victory

that lost a job, there's no
one that's and I say able or

willing because sometimes no
family or friends or whatever,

just not willing to help during
that time. But then there's

other times that family or
friends or just not able to

they don't have the resources
to help, you know, someone

that's going through that.
And so, you know, I wanted to

share that, too, because you
know what? We try to do us and

we talk about special care team
and offering hope to people in

love like

the common denominator is
they don't have anyone in their

corner. That's rooting for them
the same. I believe in you that

that that that's giving them.
I hope that they could one day

be off the street and and live
a normal life again. There's no

one there for them that's doing
that. And we want we desire to

be that group to to, to be
in the corner, rooting for them

And and that's what drives our

everything we do. You know,

And just to kind of

just a kind of dig a little
deeper into that, you know,

drop-in centers are
usually buildings that provide

everything we do. The
brick and mortar places. Right.

One of the challenges that
we see in in cities across the
00:16:27.85\00:16:30.55
U.S. is that the cities do
not want the building, providing
00:16:30.55\00:16:34.69
the serve of permanent
structure, providing the
00:16:34.69\00:16:36.89
surfaces because, you know, the
baby out is real estate values.

Citizens don't want
that around, you know, their
00:16:42.40\00:16:44.70
neighborhood or whatever.
And so so when we talk about a

mobile model, something on
wheels where we could bring in

the same exact services, this
brick and mortar building does,

we can do it on wheels,
you know, and the trailers and

vehicles, then the city is more
likely to test or to to accept

that kind of model there
because there's an issue,
