Yeah. Why didn't you put the best food in your body? 00:06:00.79\00:06:05.96 Absolutely. >> Let's talk about has such a powerful personal testimonial. And so it comes 00:06:05.96\00:06:11.77 from a place of such, you know, genuine authenticity because he was he was part of that looming 00:06:11.77\00:06:18.94 pandemic of type 2 diabetes and he made that decision that even though his doctors, his 00:06:18.94\00:06:25.51 own personal physicians who had not been trained in lifestyle 00:06:25.51\00:06:31.09 medicine, told him that he was destined 2 really just endured this degenerative condition and 00:06:31.09\00:06:40.93 to be a victim really and reliant on ever-increasing quantities of medication. And it's it's really been inspiring to see what he's doing. IQ. 2, 00:11:15.10\00:11:20.31 again, diagnose and treat not truly too to restore health. And but but that's changing. 00:11:20.31\00:11:29.62 And I in the United States where you see this real shift to value-based care and we say 00:11:29.62\00:11:35.92 all the time that if the value add value based care, it It's a shift we're in right now. 00:11:35.92\00:11:42.06 Our system is fee for service. Yeah. And so its fee for service said the more patients 00:11:42.06\00:11:47.80 to see them or procedures. You prescribe. It's it is fee for service and that is not in the 00:11:47.80\00:11:55.71 best interest of patients or providers. So the shift to value about truly rewarding 00:11:55.71\00:12:04.72 physicians, physicians medical professionals take more of the risk. But it's about keeping 00:12:04.72\00:12:09.79 people healthy. And so it is a reimbursement system that rewards really. Good health 00:12:09.79\00:12:19.07 and reigning in disease and far superior outcomes and up. But what's necessary for that 00:12:19.07\00:12:25.17 to manifest is for our medical professionals to be effectively 00:12:25.17\00:12:31.48 trained and evidence-based lifestyle, medicine. And that's the foremost reason for a 00:12:31.48\00:12:35.85 Simmons existence. 2, Phil, that gaping void of lifestyle, medicine and medical 00:12:35.85\00:12:44.76 education. >> And how progress you're making a is there? And then internationally by the international Board of 00:13:26.74\00:13:31.31 Lifestyle Medicine. But it's the same certification exam being hosted globally and then 00:13:31.31\00:13:36.34 the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. We have developed a robust offering of 00:13:36.34\00:13:42.75 a medical education across the entire continuum with heavy CME C E accredited content. 00:13:42.75\00:13:51.69 Much of which becomes the preparatory material to sit for that. continuing medical 00:13:51.69\00:13:58.80 education, right? It's 00:15:00.80\00:15:06.84 what people are and are not eating to be the leading cause of disease and death in the 00:15:06.84\00:15:13.58 world and in their 2019 global burden of Disease reported this was documented. So to 00:15:13.58\00:15:21.78 think, but it's what people are and are not eating that. It's a 00:15:21.78\00:15:25.45 leading cause of disease and death. And yet and our medical education system, there's little 00:15:25.45\00:15:32.23 to no training virtually 9 on what they nutrition can. And so that is changing. And that's why 00:15:32.23\00:15:41.17 even, you know, the McGovern Burgess House resolution, the White House conference on 00:15:41.17\00:15:47.11 hunger, nutrition and health. There are things that are emerging and I think that the 00:15:47.11\00:15:53.05 growth that even the American College of Lifestyle Medicine is seeing, but there's awakening 00:15:53.05\00:15:58.19 that something must change into tonight that also I mean, the you mentioned earlier. 00:15:58.19\00:16:07.40 >> That left the medicine as a certify it a specialty is the fastest growing medical 00:16:07.40\00:16:12.80 specialty in America today. >> and many will will say that. It's so true because, you know, the number one cause 00:17:23.00\00:17:28.98 virtually all of our chronic disease. And the number one cause of some of our most 00:17:28.98\00:17:33.72 pressing global sustainability issues is one of the same. It's that, you know, our Western 00:17:33.72\00:17:37.75 industrialized diet. And yet the foods that we need to be eating to protect our health 00:17:37.75\00:17:42.09 and prevent disease are the exact same choices that we need to make in order to 00:17:42.09\00:17:49.40 preserve our natural resources to rein in greenhouse gas emissions. And 2 feed puts in 00:17:49.40\00:17:54.27 will be 9 billion people on the Mesa And that's it's just our planet cannot sustain 00:17:54.27\00:18:03.78 heavy animal protein based diet. There just is not enough land, water or energy. True. 00:18:03.78\00:18:10.92 and yet it's like on the same amount of land. It's exponentially more people can 00:18:10.92\00:18:17.93 be fed. And so it's it's true. He can supply a household of 4 with water for entire year. That is 00:19:41.41\00:19:48.75 intensive it is in its consumption of natural resources. And when we look at 00:19:48.75\00:19:54.36 deforestation, the deep forestation that's going on. It's like the Deep Forestation 00:19:54.36\00:19:59.53 is equivalent like the state size of South Carolina every year in the Amazon is just 00:19:59.53\00:20:03.53 being before us did in order to create enough grazing ground to 00:20:03.53\00:20:10.34 grow crops to feed the animals, to then feed the people.
