Yeah, that's good. 00:08:02.04\00:08:03.38 Yeah, that's right. 00:08:03.41\00:08:04.75 And this ministry, we want to first talk about 00:08:04.78\00:08:08.68 because we have viewers and listeners. 00:08:08.72\00:08:10.39 I have to remember my wife works for radio, 00:08:10.42\00:08:12.02 she always says don't just say thank you for watching, 00:08:12.05\00:08:14.29 we say thank you for listening. 00:08:14.32\00:08:16.16 But, Eric, start out by telling us 00:08:16.19\00:08:17.59 what does SALT mean? 00:08:17.63\00:08:20.36 And then where did you get the inspiration 00:08:20.40\00:08:22.33 to just get something going that is, 00:08:22.36\00:08:24.23 we'll talk about when it started. 00:08:24.27\00:08:25.60 But just what is SALT? 00:08:25.63\00:08:26.97 And where did the inspiration to get it started come from? 00:08:27.00\00:08:28.90 Yeah, so SALT is an acronym for Service and Love Together. 00:08:28.94\00:08:34.01 I had become an Adventist in 2010. 00:08:34.04\00:08:36.61 I was baptized 00:08:36.64\00:08:38.41 in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:08:38.45\00:08:40.08 And about a year later, 00:08:40.12\00:08:42.12 you know, as I'm looking around in the area, 00:08:42.15\00:08:44.12 I'm seeing that, 00:08:44.15\00:08:45.52 that churches aren't really working 00:08:45.55\00:08:47.92 closely together. 00:08:47.96\00:08:49.62 I noticed that young adults 00:08:49.66\00:08:51.33 were not very, were leaving the church. 00:08:51.36\00:08:54.56 And there wasn't really like a strong community 00:08:54.60\00:08:57.17 of young adults in the area at that time. 00:08:57.20\00:08:59.83 And so, I believed at that time 00:08:59.87\00:09:03.04 that part of that reason, major reason 00:09:03.07\00:09:05.04 was because they might have felt 00:09:05.07\00:09:06.57 like the church was not doing consistent, 00:09:06.61\00:09:08.94 impactful, 00:09:08.98\00:09:10.68 you know, outreach that 00:09:10.71\00:09:12.41 that produces measurable incomes, 00:09:12.45\00:09:14.35 you know, and outcomes. 00:09:14.38\00:09:16.05 And so we came up with the idea, 00:09:16.08\00:09:20.19 you know, me and two friends, we prayed all night, 00:09:20.22\00:09:22.62 and we came up with the name SALT, 00:09:22.66\00:09:24.09 Matthew 5:13. 00:09:24.13\00:09:25.46 It exemplified perfectly what we are trying to do, 00:09:25.49\00:09:28.86 as well as the acronym Service and Love Together, 00:09:28.90\00:09:30.90 you know. 00:09:30.93\00:09:32.27 A lot of the time, you know, there are churches 00:09:32.30\00:09:34.70 that do once a year outreach, once a quarter, 00:09:34.74\00:09:37.17 but we need to be consistent 00:09:37.21\00:09:38.84 because we need to create relationships 00:09:38.87\00:09:40.61 because that is what leads people to Christ, 00:09:40.64\00:09:42.51 you know, so that's kind of what I guess helped inspire 00:09:42.54\00:09:45.81 in the beginning. 00:09:45.85\00:09:47.18 Amen. 00:09:47.22\00:09:48.55 You know, what I love about SALT 00:09:48.58\00:09:49.92 is you're not just out there saying, 00:09:49.95\00:09:51.29 "Hey, you know, I'll pray for you, 00:09:51.32\00:09:53.22 go stay warm, or I'll pray for you, 00:09:53.25\00:09:56.36 hopefully you get a meal, or I'll pray for you alone." 00:09:56.39\00:09:59.56 Your actions are behind those prayers. 00:09:59.59\00:10:02.23 So you're praying for them, 00:10:02.26\00:10:03.60 and you're acting on it 00:10:03.63\00:10:04.97 with the practical Christianity of, 00:10:05.00\00:10:06.67 "Hey, I'm going to pray for you that you can stay warm. 00:10:06.70\00:10:09.04 Here's a coat. 00:10:09.07\00:10:10.41 'I'm going to pray for you 00:10:10.44\00:10:11.77 that you have something in your stomach. 00:10:11.81\00:10:13.91 Here's some food." 00:10:13.94\00:10:15.28 You know, so all of those things. 00:10:15.31\00:10:16.71 I love the Ministry of SALT. 00:10:16.75\00:10:19.01 And something you mentioned that I want our audience 00:10:19.05\00:10:21.38 to not miss. 00:10:21.42\00:10:22.85 He said about a year after you got baptized. 00:10:22.88\00:10:26.65 So you didn't sit and allow spider webs to grow on you. 00:10:26.69\00:10:30.69 It's like the Lord had this vision. 00:10:30.73\00:10:33.03 Jeremiah 29:11. 00:10:33.06\00:10:34.76 He knew the plans He had for you 00:10:34.80\00:10:36.13 and He brought you into a community 00:10:36.16\00:10:37.87 that needed that spark to get that going. 00:10:37.90\00:10:40.47 So just becoming an Adventist Christian, 00:10:40.50\00:10:43.27 looking at a situation and saying, 00:10:43.30\00:10:44.81 "Okay, Lord, here I am send me." 00:10:44.84\00:10:47.31 And what year was that, you said 2011? 00:10:47.34\00:10:49.24 That was in 2010 when I was baptized. 00:10:49.28\00:10:51.48 I was baptized in May of 2010. 00:10:51.51\00:10:53.31 And SALT, 00:10:53.35\00:10:54.98 the idea for SALT didn't really start 00:10:55.02\00:10:57.69 until August of 2011. 00:10:57.72\00:11:00.12 And then in September 2011, when we had our first event, 00:11:00.16\00:11:02.92 kind of pitching the idea 00:11:02.96\00:11:04.29 to the young adults in the community, 00:11:04.33\00:11:05.66 and just going from there, you know. 00:11:05.69\00:11:08.56 You know, the whole when you mentioned 00:11:08.60\00:11:09.93 that I didn't sit 00:11:09.96\00:11:11.33 and let cobwebs kind of form on me. 00:11:11.37\00:11:13.80 I actually and I felt like I did, 00:11:13.84\00:11:16.34 you know, I felt like, 00:11:16.37\00:11:17.77 you know, I was slowly 00:11:17.81\00:11:20.21 because I didn't feel like 00:11:20.24\00:11:21.58 I was really fulfilling my purpose, 00:11:21.61\00:11:23.95 or doing, or working 00:11:23.98\00:11:26.11 to the maximum potential for God. 00:11:26.15\00:11:27.85 I kind of did feel like there were some cobwebs 00:11:27.88\00:11:30.39 kind of building up. 00:11:30.42\00:11:32.12 And so, SALT was just something that really, you know, 00:11:32.15\00:11:37.33 instead of, 00:11:37.36\00:11:38.69 there's so many people that will sit around and say, 00:11:38.73\00:11:40.20 oh, the church needs to do this, 00:11:40.23\00:11:41.56 the church needs to do that. 00:11:41.60\00:11:42.93 But you know, God had spoken to me, 00:11:42.96\00:11:45.53 you know, through His Word and was like, 00:11:45.57\00:11:46.90 Eric, you, you can't just sit around, 00:11:46.94\00:11:49.94 do something, you know, 00:11:49.97\00:11:51.31 and, and that's, yeah, that's what happened, so. 00:11:51.34\00:11:55.24 So you saw that need, 00:11:55.28\00:11:57.45 and you decided 00:11:57.48\00:11:58.81 that you were going to fill that need? 00:11:58.85\00:12:00.22 Right, exactly. 00:12:00.25\00:12:01.58 And that's, we should all, should all do that. 00:12:01.62\00:12:04.22 You know, I think we've started to become spectators 00:12:04.25\00:12:08.89 a lot of the time. 00:12:08.92\00:12:10.26 And really, God wants to use us as instruments 00:12:10.29\00:12:13.06 for change within our church. 00:12:13.09\00:12:15.10 Yes. 00:12:15.13\00:12:16.46 So, you know, that's, that's what I think. 00:12:16.50\00:12:19.43 Now having a vision 00:12:19.47\00:12:20.80 and actually doing something with that vision 00:12:20.84\00:12:23.00 is not the same thing 00:12:23.04\00:12:24.37 because you felt and 00:12:24.41\00:12:25.74 I like that how you brought that in, 00:12:25.77\00:12:27.11 because sitting, 00:12:27.14\00:12:28.48 for some people sitting around for one year 00:12:28.51\00:12:29.84 is not a long time. 00:12:29.88\00:12:31.21 Some people can sit around for 15 years or 20 years 00:12:31.25\00:12:33.42 still saying, 00:12:33.45\00:12:34.78 "When is the church 00:12:34.82\00:12:36.15 or when is the conference going to do this and that." 00:12:36.18\00:12:38.02 But Danny wasn't one. 00:12:38.05\00:12:39.92 That's why we're sitting here tonight. 00:12:39.95\00:12:41.49 And he realized that God had a vision. 00:12:41.52\00:12:43.06 He said, "Here I am, send me." 00:12:43.09\00:12:44.66 And you did the same thing. 00:12:44.69\00:12:46.03 So talking to the young people, then looking at the next step, 00:12:46.06\00:12:51.70 because getting started, 00:12:51.73\00:12:53.07 starting an organization starting a 501 C3, 00:12:53.10\00:12:56.50 and recognizing that, 00:12:56.54\00:12:57.97 as Danny said, there are resources, 00:12:58.01\00:12:59.61 but how do we get access to those resources? 00:12:59.64\00:13:02.18 How do we define our goal? 00:13:02.21\00:13:04.08 How do we calibrate our mission? 00:13:04.11\00:13:06.11 And what was the first thing you did? 00:13:06.15\00:13:08.08 If you could remember that first outreach, 00:13:08.12\00:13:10.65 that kind of scared you 00:13:10.69\00:13:12.02 but confirmed that God was leading you? 00:13:12.05\00:13:14.76 You know, it was an outreach, it was even, 00:13:14.79\00:13:17.63 it was right before SALT started, 00:13:17.66\00:13:19.26 actually helped inspire SALT. 00:13:19.29\00:13:20.63 Okay. 00:13:20.66\00:13:22.00 Where we would go out in downtown Orlando, 00:13:22.03\00:13:24.23 me and three friends of mine. 00:13:24.27\00:13:25.87 And literally, we would, 00:13:25.90\00:13:27.54 we went out like maybe 10 at night. 00:13:27.57\00:13:29.90 And we would just see where God, 00:13:29.94\00:13:33.04 who God has called us to talk to, 00:13:33.07\00:13:34.64 and we just walk around there and there'd be, 00:13:34.68\00:13:36.64 you know, people, you know, like, 00:13:36.68\00:13:39.81 you know, the nightlife, right, in the town. 00:13:39.85\00:13:42.15 But we would see someone crying. 00:13:42.18\00:13:44.09 So me and my friend would go and sit next to her 00:13:44.12\00:13:45.99 and kind of ask, you know, hey, what's wrong, you know, 00:13:46.02\00:13:49.36 and then she shared her spiritual life, 00:13:49.39\00:13:51.09 that she was an agnostic, 00:13:51.13\00:13:52.96 and we pray and we asked if we could pray for her. 00:13:52.99\00:13:55.00 And she said, yes. 00:13:55.03\00:13:56.36 And like, just kind of plant seeds, 00:13:56.40\00:13:58.33 you know, and it was that night that God confirmed to me, 00:13:58.37\00:14:02.74 Eric, I need you to do something. 00:14:02.77\00:14:05.64 And, you know, 00:14:05.67\00:14:07.31 because that was just 00:14:07.34\00:14:08.91 that outreach is not an easy outreach to do. 00:14:08.94\00:14:11.25 No, no, it's not a perfect night. 00:14:11.28\00:14:12.71 Yeah, yeah. 00:14:12.75\00:14:14.08 We didn't end that night till like three in the morning, 00:14:14.12\00:14:15.68 I think, you know. 00:14:15.72\00:14:17.05 There was, there was, 00:14:17.09\00:14:18.42 I remember that night so vividly. 00:14:18.45\00:14:19.92 There was a pastor son out there. 00:14:19.95\00:14:22.79 And we just were going around and he was really friendly. 00:14:22.82\00:14:26.33 We start talking to him, and he started crying. 00:14:26.36\00:14:28.66 He's like, "Guys, I shouldn't be out here. 00:14:28.70\00:14:30.83 You know, my dad's a pastor. 00:14:30.87\00:14:33.77 And, you know, I just came up for my birthday, 00:14:33.80\00:14:35.90 but I shouldn't have come like, look what I'm doing." 00:14:35.94\00:14:38.81 And, you know, it's just, it's crazy. 00:14:38.84\00:14:41.04 You know, just moments like that 00:14:41.08\00:14:42.48 that happened. 00:14:42.51\00:14:43.85 And then a homeless woman really was the thing 00:14:43.88\00:14:45.71 that kind of, 00:14:45.75\00:14:48.02 where that God used to speak through me 00:14:48.05\00:14:50.49 or speak to me, I'm sorry. 00:14:50.52\00:14:52.09 And so, 00:14:52.12\00:14:53.46 and then the rest is history after that, 00:14:53.49\00:14:55.46 you know, then SALT 00:14:55.49\00:14:56.93 the idea sparked shortly after so. 00:14:56.96\00:14:58.59 Wow. 00:14:58.63\00:14:59.96 So after the idea sparked, 00:15:00.00\00:15:02.10 and you said you presented it to young people, 00:15:02.13\00:15:04.73 did they catch the vision? 00:15:04.77\00:15:07.10 Or was it like, 00:15:07.14\00:15:08.47 did you have to keep approaching them 00:15:08.50\00:15:10.27 or did they catch it right then? 00:15:10.31\00:15:12.01 They caught it. 00:15:12.04\00:15:13.38 They were all, they were all wanting it. 00:15:13.41\00:15:14.94 You know, they all want it to be involved. 00:15:14.98\00:15:16.31 They all want it. 00:15:16.34\00:15:17.68 It was something young adults are organic. 00:15:17.71\00:15:19.58 It was grassroots. 00:15:19.61\00:15:21.92 We had our first event September, 00:15:21.95\00:15:23.32 had like 150 young adults come. 00:15:23.35\00:15:25.49 The next one was in November, had about 250. 00:15:25.52\00:15:28.29 We did it a year, our one-year anniversary, 00:15:28.32\00:15:30.73 we had 850 young adults come fill up a... 00:15:30.76\00:15:34.46 It's Patmos Chapel. 00:15:34.50\00:15:36.33 Yeah, I know Patmos. 00:15:36.36\00:15:37.70 You know Patmos? Oh, yeah. 00:15:37.73\00:15:39.07 It was packed with young adults. 00:15:39.10\00:15:40.94 And just people in general, not just young adults. 00:15:40.97\00:15:43.94 So many people that that just wanted to learn 00:15:43.97\00:15:46.71 about what SALT had done in that past year 00:15:46.74\00:15:48.31 and what SALT's looking to do. 00:15:48.34\00:15:50.45 So the vision just kept, kept catching on, you know. 00:15:50.48\00:15:53.95 And that's, that's the beautiful thing. 00:15:53.98\00:15:56.55 I mean, God used so many people to get SALT to where it is now. 00:15:56.58\00:16:02.06 And it's exciting to see all that come together. 00:16:02.09\00:16:04.33 Yes. 00:16:04.36\00:16:05.69 Yeah, just before we show the video 00:16:05.73\00:16:07.06 that kind of gives us an overview of SALT in action, 00:16:07.10\00:16:10.23 just name a few things 00:16:10.27\00:16:11.77 and we'll go into more detail later on in the program 00:16:11.80\00:16:14.14 of what we might see in this video 00:16:14.17\00:16:15.74 that to kind of helps people 00:16:15.77\00:16:18.21 because there's some people that are listening, 00:16:18.24\00:16:20.64 and we want to be able to identify 00:16:20.68\00:16:22.24 with those who may be driving their cars, 00:16:22.28\00:16:23.75 what we're about to watch? 00:16:23.78\00:16:25.11 Yeah, so the video was made in May of this year. 00:16:25.15\00:16:29.22 We had just created a relationship, 00:16:29.25\00:16:32.25 partnership with the city of Orlando, 00:16:32.29\00:16:34.29 where they were, 00:16:34.32\00:16:35.82 they basically helped to 00:16:35.86\00:16:37.69 when the pandemic hit in mid-March in Florida. 00:16:37.73\00:16:41.00 The homeless organizations, the shelters, the food shares 00:16:41.03\00:16:44.73 where hundreds of people experiencing homelessness 00:16:44.77\00:16:46.97 would go and get food, they shut down. 00:16:47.00\00:16:49.57 So those experiencing homelessness, 00:16:49.60\00:16:51.64 they didn't really have anywhere to go, 00:16:51.67\00:16:54.28 they have anyone to look to or they were lost, 00:16:54.31\00:16:57.25 you know, those that had just gotten jobs 00:16:57.28\00:16:58.61 got laid off, 00:16:58.65\00:16:59.98 those that were looking for jobs 00:17:00.02\00:17:01.35 had to stop, 00:17:01.38\00:17:02.72 the businesses were closing. 00:17:02.75\00:17:04.09 So we had a relationship with the city of Orlando, 00:17:04.12\00:17:07.22 and you know, her name is Lisa, she called me and she's like, 00:17:07.26\00:17:10.79 Eric, you guys are outside. 00:17:10.83\00:17:13.46 You guys can keep going. 00:17:13.50\00:17:14.83 We were operating once a week at that, 00:17:14.86\00:17:16.20 during that time. 00:17:16.23\00:17:17.57 It's like let's, let the city help fund you 00:17:17.60\00:17:19.50 to operate more often. 00:17:19.53\00:17:21.14 So we started operating three days a week, 00:17:21.17\00:17:23.00 we hired staff. 00:17:23.04\00:17:24.37 I mean, it was an amazing, 00:17:24.41\00:17:26.81 just an amazing testimony to see God grow the ministry 00:17:26.84\00:17:29.88 just like that in just one instance. 00:17:29.91\00:17:32.28 Unfortunately, 00:17:32.31\00:17:33.65 it was an unfortunate circumstance 00:17:33.68\00:17:35.02 that led to that. 00:17:35.05\00:17:36.38 But, you know, God was setting us up 00:17:36.42\00:17:39.02 for that moment 00:17:39.05\00:17:40.39 to help those people 00:17:40.42\00:17:41.76 that were literally in a black hole 00:17:41.79\00:17:43.46 during that time. 00:17:43.49\00:17:44.83 So this video was made 00:17:44.86\00:17:46.36 right about two months of us operating during the pandemic. 00:17:46.39\00:17:50.10 Okay, well, let's go to that video right now 00:17:50.13\00:17:51.73 and check it out. 00:17:51.77\00:17:53.10 My name is Eric Camarillo. 00:18:01.81\00:18:03.14 I'm the President of SALT Outreach. 00:18:03.18\00:18:05.15 So our homeless outreach started 00:18:05.18\00:18:06.51 actually with two young women, 00:18:06.55\00:18:08.72 they would cook food in their individual homes, 00:18:08.75\00:18:10.99 and then they would go and offer that food 00:18:11.02\00:18:12.75 to those experiencing homelessness. 00:18:12.79\00:18:14.19 We fundraised for a clothing trailer 00:18:14.22\00:18:16.02 which we call Change. 00:18:16.06\00:18:17.53 There were some homeless individuals 00:18:17.56\00:18:19.29 that were actively looking for work 00:18:19.33\00:18:21.63 that hadn't showered and up to three months. 00:18:21.66\00:18:23.77 Living in Florida 00:18:23.80\00:18:25.13 with the kind of heat that we live in, 00:18:25.17\00:18:26.60 that's not acceptable. 00:18:26.63\00:18:27.97 How can you want to even feel 00:18:28.00\00:18:30.34 like you want to better yourself 00:18:30.37\00:18:31.97 if you feel dirty, if you feel rejected? 00:18:32.01\00:18:35.04 They are a wonderful group of people. 00:18:35.08\00:18:37.91 And, you know, they help us, they give us resources. 00:18:37.95\00:18:41.75 They don't leave us out. 00:18:41.78\00:18:43.42 Get you a hot shower. It feel good. 00:18:43.45\00:18:45.15 We fundraised about $40,000 for a shower trailer 00:18:45.19\00:18:48.42 that we launched at the end of 2018. 00:18:48.46\00:18:51.19 Free showers are available in downtown Orlando. 00:18:51.23\00:18:53.73 This mobile shower trailer 00:18:53.76\00:18:55.60 is part of the latest effort now 00:18:55.63\00:18:56.97 to help the homeless. 00:18:57.00\00:18:58.33 I'm the Homeless Outreach Director 00:18:58.37\00:18:59.70 so that you know entails a lot of things. 00:18:59.73\00:19:01.74 One of the things is we have our shower trailer 00:19:01.77\00:19:04.21 just making sure that we have the supplies 00:19:04.24\00:19:05.57 that we need. 00:19:05.61\00:19:06.94 Just the shower alone 00:19:06.98\00:19:08.61 could put a whole brand-new perspective 00:19:08.64\00:19:11.48 on what your day is going to look like. 00:19:11.51\00:19:13.18 When you come out of that, 00:19:13.21\00:19:14.78 you can know that your hair is shampooed 00:19:14.82\00:19:17.12 and conditioned well. 00:19:17.15\00:19:19.25 You know what I'm saying 00:19:19.29\00:19:20.62 like you actually have some time 00:19:20.66\00:19:21.99 to really need everything in there 00:19:22.02\00:19:23.93 and let it marinate your hair. 00:19:23.96\00:19:25.59 Brand new man or woman. 00:19:25.63\00:19:27.03 I heard about the shower, 00:19:27.06\00:19:28.40 got involved with SALT 00:19:28.43\00:19:29.76 and then got me off the streets. 00:19:29.80\00:19:31.43 Now I'm no longer homeless. 00:19:31.47\00:19:33.90 Today I pretty much take care of the shower, 00:19:33.94\00:19:37.07 me and my partner Oscar. 00:19:37.11\00:19:39.37 We put people in the shower and then we sterilize 00:19:39.41\00:19:43.95 and clean it real good for the next person. 00:19:43.98\00:19:46.51 And sometimes you in the amongst into a group 00:19:46.55\00:19:49.18 need to see you as homeless 00:19:49.22\00:19:50.55 and mentioned different issues and different 00:19:50.59\00:19:53.05 but, you know, and then being on here 00:19:53.09\00:19:54.79 and giving me opportunity to volunteer. 00:19:54.82\00:19:57.03 You know people able to see more of 00:19:57.06\00:19:59.09 you know what I am as a person what they just wanted to be. 00:19:59.13\00:20:03.03 The start of 2020, OUC, 00:20:03.06\00:20:05.23 the Orlando Utilities Commission 00:20:05.27\00:20:06.90 donated solar panels 00:20:06.94\00:20:08.27 to put on top of our shower trailer. 00:20:08.30\00:20:10.34 So we can be completely mobile with our shower trailer. 00:20:10.37\00:20:12.87 We don't need to plug in anywhere. 00:20:12.91\00:20:14.24 We can fill our water tank 00:20:14.28\00:20:15.61 and literally do showers at any location. 00:20:15.64\00:20:18.38 When this COVID-19 pandemic broke out, 00:20:18.41\00:20:20.95 we went ahead and hired 00:20:20.98\00:20:22.65 two more additional people. 00:20:22.68\00:20:24.42 And thanks to the city of Orlando, 00:20:24.45\00:20:26.86 they have hired us to be able to provide 00:20:26.89\00:20:28.82 these emergency services. 00:20:28.86\00:20:30.23 We've gone from operating three times a month 00:20:30.26\00:20:33.63 to operating three times a week 00:20:33.66\00:20:35.40 to be able to provide services 00:20:35.43\00:20:38.10 that are supposed to curb the spread. 00:20:38.13\00:20:40.44 We are needing things like gloves, hand sanitizers, 00:20:40.47\00:20:44.44 especially the hand sanitizer 00:20:44.47\00:20:45.81 so we can give to our homeless friends. 00:20:45.84\00:20:47.21 So after they take a shower, 00:20:47.24\00:20:48.64 they can take that with them 00:20:48.68\00:20:50.01 and still maintain that, that hygiene. 00:20:50.05\00:20:52.48 I believe we're just at the beginning stages 00:20:52.51\00:20:55.02 of where God wants us to be. 00:20:55.05\00:20:56.65 We have a big vision, 00:20:56.69\00:20:58.22 we want to duplicate this in every major city. 00:20:58.25\00:21:01.32 We're going to have to partner with those in the community 00:21:01.36\00:21:03.73 to actually make this a reality. 00:21:03.76\00:21:05.63 I was homeless myself. 00:21:05.66\00:21:07.00 When I look back at that experience, 00:21:07.03\00:21:08.36 I believe that's what drives me. 00:21:08.40\00:21:09.73 That's what gives me the passion 00:21:09.76\00:21:11.37 and desire to do 00:21:11.40\00:21:12.73 what we're doing here with SALT. 00:21:12.77\00:21:14.60 When you get a feeling out of someone 00:21:14.64\00:21:16.17 what somebody's doing 00:21:16.20\00:21:17.54 you get a good feeling like that. 00:21:17.57\00:21:18.91 That's called love. 00:21:18.94\00:21:20.28 And that's what SALT brings to the table. 00:21:20.31\00:21:21.64 Wow! What an inspiring video. 00:21:31.29\00:21:33.32 You know, you don't realize the things 00:21:33.36\00:21:35.89 that we take for granted on the daily basis, 00:21:35.92\00:21:38.73 showers transforming people's lives 00:21:38.76\00:21:40.93 like making their day that much better. 00:21:40.96\00:21:44.87 The gentleman was talking about shampooing 00:21:44.90\00:21:46.77 and conditioning his hair. 00:21:46.80\00:21:49.00 And that made his day like 00:21:49.04\00:21:50.87 but the things that we take for granted. 00:21:50.91\00:21:53.01 Tell us about your beginnings, Eric? 00:21:53.04\00:21:54.74 Yeah. 00:21:54.78\00:21:56.11 So my beginnings as... 00:21:56.14\00:21:58.35 When you are facing that homelessness? 00:21:58.38\00:22:00.95 I didn't even know that you were homeless before. 00:22:00.98\00:22:02.32 Yeah. 00:22:02.35\00:22:03.69 So I actually, it was when I was 20 years old, 00:22:03.72\00:22:06.39 it was BC, Before Christ, 00:22:06.42\00:22:08.89 you know, and my whole mindset was all about, 00:22:08.92\00:22:11.66 like making money, 00:22:11.69\00:22:13.03 and how can I make the most money? 00:22:13.06\00:22:14.40 And what do I need to do? 00:22:14.43\00:22:15.76 And I remember I went to Chicago 00:22:15.80\00:22:17.87 to try and start a business. 00:22:17.90\00:22:19.50 And it, I had enough money, 00:22:19.53\00:22:23.51 I totally underestimated the amount of time 00:22:23.54\00:22:26.88 that I would need to be out there, right? 00:22:26.91\00:22:28.24 So I had enough money for hotel for two weeks. 00:22:28.28\00:22:31.21 But I was out there for six months. 00:22:31.25\00:22:32.85 So I ended up living in my car 00:22:32.88\00:22:36.42 for about five months. 00:22:36.45\00:22:38.72 You know, once in a while 00:22:38.75\00:22:40.09 I'd be able to get 00:22:40.12\00:22:41.46 into a friend's house and shower 00:22:41.49\00:22:43.06 or someone that I was meeting 00:22:43.09\00:22:44.43 or it was just weird kind of instances 00:22:44.46\00:22:47.00 where I'd be able to get shower, 00:22:47.03\00:22:48.36 but a lot of the time I go to the gas station, 00:22:48.40\00:22:51.23 go into the bathroom, try and clean myself up. 00:22:51.27\00:22:54.67 And I'd still put on a suit and tie 00:22:54.70\00:22:56.77 and go into Panera and have my meetings 00:22:56.81\00:22:58.71 and try and get this business going. 00:22:58.74\00:23:01.64 I was a... 00:23:01.68\00:23:03.01 Yeah, I was a little crazy. 00:23:03.04\00:23:04.68 But I remember eating, to eat, 00:23:04.71\00:23:07.88 I would go into a Mexican restaurant. 00:23:07.92\00:23:09.88 And you know how they give those chips in the beginning? 00:23:09.92\00:23:12.32 I'd eat the chips. 00:23:12.35\00:23:13.69 And I just, I wait a little bit, 00:23:13.72\00:23:15.06 you know, look around, 00:23:15.09\00:23:16.42 had to walk out after I eat the chips. 00:23:16.46\00:23:18.43 If I had $1, I get a piece of bread at Panera, 00:23:18.46\00:23:20.96 I'd rip it in half. 00:23:21.00\00:23:22.33 And that'd be my breakfast and my dinner. 00:23:22.36\00:23:25.40 It was rough, it was rough. 00:23:25.43\00:23:27.84 And I was stubborn. 00:23:27.87\00:23:29.97 You know, looking back if I, if I had known God back then, 00:23:30.01\00:23:33.11 I would have known 00:23:33.14\00:23:34.48 that God would not have wanted me 00:23:34.51\00:23:35.91 to go that route. 00:23:35.94\00:23:37.28 I really would have known that. 00:23:37.31\00:23:38.65 But I remember though, though, 00:23:38.68\00:23:40.42 during those times of feeling that 00:23:40.45\00:23:43.28 that loneliness, you know, that emptiness, 00:23:43.32\00:23:46.25 you know, I wasn't succeeding. 00:23:46.29\00:23:49.12 I remember reaching out to something. 00:23:49.16\00:23:51.83 And I didn't know what it was, I didn't know. 00:23:51.86\00:23:54.33 You know, I didn't know God at that time. 00:23:54.36\00:23:55.90 But I would just scream out to something, you know. 00:23:55.93\00:23:59.10 And I think that, that might have even been 00:23:59.13\00:24:00.47 the beginnings 00:24:00.50\00:24:01.84 of when I maybe started to be 00:24:01.87\00:24:03.20 a little more less reliant on myself 00:24:03.24\00:24:08.51 and more thinking about other things. 00:24:08.54\00:24:11.71 You know what I mean, 00:24:11.75\00:24:13.08 and kind of opening my mind a little bit. 00:24:13.11\00:24:15.72 But yeah, I was, 00:24:15.75\00:24:17.12 it was a really interesting experience, yeah. 00:24:17.15\00:24:20.16 Yeah, that's powerful. 00:24:20.19\00:24:21.99 But look what God did with that experience. 00:24:22.02\00:24:24.96 So, you know, that's an important lesson 00:24:24.99\00:24:28.46 for people at home. 00:24:28.50\00:24:29.93 You know, whatever you might be going through 00:24:29.96\00:24:32.10 at this moment 00:24:32.13\00:24:33.47 doesn't mean that that has to be your tomorrow. 00:24:33.50\00:24:35.97 And, you know, whatever struggle 00:24:36.00\00:24:38.27 you're dealing with could end up 00:24:38.31\00:24:40.28 being somebody else's blessing tomorrow. 00:24:40.31\00:24:43.21 I mean, think about the lives that SALT has touched. 00:24:43.24\00:24:46.38 You know, you went through that process, 00:24:46.41\00:24:48.55 but now you're giving back 00:24:48.58\00:24:49.92 and you're helping the homeless community 00:24:49.95\00:24:52.35 and all of that stuff. 00:24:52.39\00:24:53.72 It's really helped me to understand 00:24:53.76\00:24:55.42 where they're coming from, 00:24:55.46\00:24:56.79 you know, can't find a job, you can't shower. 00:24:56.83\00:24:59.13 You know, I tried to make it work. 00:24:59.16\00:25:00.53 But I mean, they, the gas stations in Orlando, 00:25:00.56\00:25:02.56 they won't even, 00:25:02.60\00:25:03.93 they won't let someone come in there and clean up. 00:25:03.97\00:25:06.17 You know what I mean? 00:25:06.20\00:25:07.54 They're rarely any bathroom especially now in COVID, 00:25:07.57\00:25:10.11 rarely any bathrooms they could go in to try 00:25:10.14\00:25:12.14 and prepare themselves for an interview. 00:25:12.17\00:25:14.04 I was talking about one of our volunteers today. 00:25:14.08\00:25:16.71 She said that someone came on Tuesday, 00:25:16.75\00:25:19.45 said they were looking for a job, need to shower, 00:25:19.48\00:25:21.55 needed some clothes. 00:25:21.58\00:25:23.65 He came back today, Thursday, this morning. 00:25:23.69\00:25:26.42 And he said, "I got a job." 00:25:26.45\00:25:28.32 He's going to be working at SeaWorld now. 00:25:28.36\00:25:30.53 And we're going to try and help him 00:25:30.56\00:25:32.03 to maintain that job. 00:25:32.06\00:25:33.40 But just seeing 00:25:33.43\00:25:34.76 just within a few days of having access to that, 00:25:34.80\00:25:37.90 how that could change someone's life, you know, so... 00:25:37.93\00:25:42.14 Providing them with resources. 00:25:42.17\00:25:44.04 Right. 00:25:44.07\00:25:45.41 You know, I think about that, when... 00:25:45.44\00:25:47.31 Now, I know when you look at that video 00:25:47.34\00:25:48.88 and see people getting a shower, 00:25:48.91\00:25:51.18 does it ever take you back? 00:25:51.21\00:25:53.55 And you think, well, if they will say, 00:25:53.58\00:25:54.98 well, if there was something like this, 00:25:55.02\00:25:56.35 I would have known where to go every day to get a shower 00:25:56.38\00:25:58.79 while I was going through my difficulty. 00:25:58.82\00:26:00.16 So you're actually reaching back to, Eric, 00:26:00.19\00:26:02.62 and saying there are a lot of guys out there 00:26:02.66\00:26:04.03 like me that have value 00:26:04.06\00:26:06.26 that are not just another statistic 00:26:06.29\00:26:07.63 on the street. 00:26:07.66\00:26:09.00 And I want to talk, will you talk to that, 00:26:09.03\00:26:10.37 because a lot of times people 00:26:10.40\00:26:11.90 you know, Jason, we live in a world 00:26:11.93\00:26:13.27 where people see people that are down and out. 00:26:13.30\00:26:15.64 I was listening recently to a statistic 00:26:15.67\00:26:17.77 that is true in Silicon Valley. 00:26:17.81\00:26:20.28 There's many of the guys that are out there 00:26:20.31\00:26:21.64 smoking crack and doing drugs 00:26:21.68\00:26:24.21 were formerly making six figure incomes. 00:26:24.25\00:26:28.58 And the demand on programming these video games 00:26:28.62\00:26:31.72 and computer programming, 00:26:31.75\00:26:33.19 the demand was so great 00:26:33.22\00:26:34.82 that the companies didn't even mind for them 00:26:34.86\00:26:36.19 to smoke it 00:26:36.22\00:26:37.56 because they don't want them to sleep within 24 hours 00:26:37.59\00:26:39.49 because the deadlines 00:26:39.53\00:26:41.13 of getting that videogame out there 00:26:41.16\00:26:42.56 was more important than their sleep 00:26:42.60\00:26:43.97 and their health. 00:26:44.00\00:26:45.33 So they knew they were doing crack on the job, 00:26:45.37\00:26:47.94 but they did it so much that they lost their job 00:26:47.97\00:26:50.04 and you have this debt, 00:26:50.07\00:26:51.41 they have this whole community of people living in tents 00:26:51.44\00:26:53.74 and on mattresses and in boxes. 00:26:53.78\00:26:57.45 And I saw that video 00:26:57.48\00:26:59.31 and there was one guy they showed him 00:26:59.35\00:27:01.58 and he introduced himself and he told what he has. 00:27:01.62\00:27:03.65 I got a master's degree in this, 00:27:03.69\00:27:05.02 in computer engineering and all, 00:27:05.05\00:27:06.39 and I worked for, 00:27:06.42\00:27:07.76 he mentioned the company and I lost it 00:27:07.79\00:27:09.12 because of crack and they followed his story. 00:27:09.16\00:27:12.06 And at the end of that, 00:27:12.09\00:27:13.80 he went to a place got little shower 00:27:13.83\00:27:16.87 and was in shower but got a shower, 00:27:16.90\00:27:20.50 got as clean as he could and he got hired. 00:27:20.54\00:27:23.44 And he said, "I start on Monday 00:27:23.47\00:27:25.64 and might get back to my six-figure income." 00:27:25.67\00:27:29.04 So this is something more and I want you to 00:27:29.08\00:27:30.71 those who are listening, watching. 00:27:30.75\00:27:32.08 I want you to think 00:27:32.11\00:27:33.45 that when you see people on the street, 00:27:33.48\00:27:35.05 they may be a statistic to you. 00:27:35.08\00:27:37.75 That's somebody's son or somebody's daughter, 00:27:37.79\00:27:40.22 who may be just in a valley of their lives 00:27:40.26\00:27:42.82 that is on their way 00:27:42.86\00:27:44.46 to the ministry to change lives. 00:27:44.49\00:27:47.13 So here we are. 00:27:47.16\00:27:48.50 SALT began in 2011. 00:27:48.53\00:27:51.37 And take us 00:27:51.40\00:27:52.83 through some of those grand moments 00:27:52.87\00:27:54.64 because we talked about that shower truck. 00:27:54.67\00:27:57.04 I want to, I want our audience to kind of, 00:27:57.07\00:27:59.14 we want to catapult here 00:27:59.17\00:28:00.51 and go on to some of the pictures. 00:28:00.54\00:28:02.54 Because one truck, 00:28:02.58\00:28:04.61 I don't want to go to that what you are now 00:28:04.65\00:28:06.28 or one trailer, 00:28:06.31\00:28:07.65 but let's walk us through that? 00:28:07.68\00:28:09.58 Give us some more of that background? 00:28:09.62\00:28:10.95 Yeah, yeah. 00:28:10.99\00:28:12.32 So in, in, really, we started with food, 00:28:12.35\00:28:15.89 you know, and that was just kind of the main thing 00:28:15.92\00:28:19.73 that was needed at that time, 00:28:19.76\00:28:21.73 a certain day of the week. 00:28:21.76\00:28:23.10 So we fill that gap. 00:28:23.13\00:28:24.73 We're feeding, 00:28:24.77\00:28:26.10 started to feed about 200-300 individuals, 00:28:26.13\00:28:28.87 you know, with hundreds of different volunteers 00:28:28.90\00:28:31.04 that come through and help. 00:28:31.07\00:28:32.77 In 2016 is when we fundraised for a clothing trailer. 00:28:32.81\00:28:37.11 And the clothing trailer was something 00:28:37.15\00:28:39.71 that we used to hand our clothing. 00:28:39.75\00:28:42.18 You know, we would hand our hygiene products 00:28:42.22\00:28:43.82 from that trailer. 00:28:43.85\00:28:45.19 2018 was the shower trailer. 00:28:45.22\00:28:47.26 Now, I want to say 00:28:47.29\00:28:48.89 that 3ABN viewers and listeners, 00:28:48.92\00:28:51.43 you have been a part of this impact, 00:28:51.46\00:28:53.93 because they paid for half of that trailer. 00:28:53.96\00:28:57.50 You know, we came on here two years ago, 00:28:57.53\00:29:00.04 three years ago 00:29:00.07\00:29:01.40 and we mentioned the vision of that shower trailer. 00:29:01.44\00:29:04.97 And 3ABN viewers responded, 00:29:05.01\00:29:07.64 you know, some and some of them $25 checks, $50 checks. 00:29:07.68\00:29:11.91 It added up, you know, one person gave over 10,000. 00:29:11.95\00:29:16.45 You know, it was just a huge, huge blessing. 00:29:16.48\00:29:19.85 So that was monumental for us. 00:29:19.89\00:29:21.36 And that's when we really started to realize 00:29:21.39\00:29:23.73 that we were becoming this mobile service center 00:29:23.76\00:29:27.63 for the homeless, 00:29:27.66\00:29:29.00 you know, because we had haircuts too. 00:29:29.03\00:29:30.77 So showers, clothes, haircuts, hygiene product, food. 00:29:30.80\00:29:34.67 And then in 2020, 00:29:34.70\00:29:37.31 you know, we started operating three days a week, 00:29:37.34\00:29:41.64 you know, 00:29:41.68\00:29:43.01 and things have just been continuing to grow. 00:29:43.04\00:29:45.41 We got some new things on the horizon 00:29:45.45\00:29:47.15 that we're excited about. 00:29:47.18\00:29:48.52 We'll talk about that later. Yeah, yeah, but... 00:29:48.55\00:29:50.35 Now, how do you pick your locations? 00:29:50.39\00:29:52.55 And then I've got a question that just came in. 00:29:52.59\00:29:54.89 So I'll ask you that in just a minute 00:29:54.92\00:29:56.62 and we want to remind our viewers and listeners 00:29:56.66\00:29:59.29 to send in your questions. 00:29:59.33\00:30:01.80 We're going to be answering questions 00:30:01.83\00:30:03.50 pertaining to the Ministry of SALT. 00:30:03.53\00:30:05.40 You can text them to (618) 228-3975 00:30:05.43\00:30:10.51 or call and speak to someone in our call center 00:30:10.54\00:30:13.27 at (618) 627-4651 00:30:13.31\00:30:16.51 or if you want to get on the computer, 00:30:16.54\00:30:17.95 you can email us at Live@3abn.tv. 00:30:17.98\00:30:22.52 So how do you pick your locations, Eric? 00:30:22.55\00:30:25.32 So we started in 2018-2019, rotating locations. 00:30:25.35\00:30:31.69 Some of them, the main element that we needed 00:30:31.73\00:30:34.56 was a place where we can hook up to water, 00:30:34.60\00:30:37.57 we used to have to hook up the power, 00:30:37.60\00:30:39.30 but that's changed this year, which we'll go into later. 00:30:39.33\00:30:42.37 But, and then also a place where we can dump black water, 00:30:42.40\00:30:45.61 you know, place that the city allows us 00:30:45.64\00:30:47.64 to dump black water. 00:30:47.68\00:30:49.01 Just so happened that 00:30:49.04\00:30:50.38 two of those places were Adventist churches, 00:30:50.41\00:30:52.58 which was perfect. 00:30:52.61\00:30:54.82 And then the other two places where other churches 00:30:54.85\00:30:58.49 that we could just rotate out and go to. 00:30:58.52\00:31:00.36 Right now we're at a singular location, 00:31:00.39\00:31:03.49 especially during COVID, 00:31:03.53\00:31:04.86 we want to make sure that everyone knows exactly 00:31:04.89\00:31:06.66 where we are. 00:31:06.70\00:31:08.03 And then the site we're working at right now, 00:31:08.06\00:31:09.80 which is the Christian Service Center 00:31:09.83\00:31:11.33 has been so supportive of this ministry, 00:31:11.37\00:31:14.04 and has helped in so many other ways, 00:31:14.07\00:31:15.77 which, you know, I can go into later as well. 00:31:15.80\00:31:18.01 But, but yes, so right now 00:31:18.04\00:31:19.81 we're just at that one location. 00:31:19.84\00:31:21.24 That's awesome. 00:31:21.28\00:31:22.61 Let me ask you this question here. 00:31:22.64\00:31:25.21 It says, "How can my teens 00:31:25.25\00:31:27.42 and I get involved with SALT in the Seattle area? 00:31:27.45\00:31:32.29 Okay, so... 00:31:32.32\00:31:36.09 So we're only operating in Orlando right now. 00:31:36.12\00:31:39.73 For people that are remote in other areas, 00:31:39.76\00:31:43.16 we have done remote leadership positions, 00:31:43.20\00:31:46.60 depending if there's special skills 00:31:46.63\00:31:47.97 in certain areas 00:31:48.00\00:31:49.34 that can assist with the outreach. 00:31:49.37\00:31:52.64 And then the obvious also is, 00:31:52.67\00:31:55.01 is to support the organization financially as well. 00:31:55.04\00:31:58.28 becoming a monthly donor. 00:31:58.31\00:32:00.95 You know, those are kind of the main, 00:32:00.98\00:32:02.72 two main things that kind of pop out 00:32:02.75\00:32:04.22 as ways for people to get involved that are so, 00:32:04.25\00:32:06.25 I mean, that's the opposite side 00:32:06.29\00:32:07.62 of the country. 00:32:07.66\00:32:08.99 But who knows Seattle, 00:32:09.02\00:32:10.43 maybe we'll be there soon, you know. 00:32:10.46\00:32:12.99 What if somebody wanted to do what you're doing and said, 00:32:13.03\00:32:16.30 "Okay, I want to partner with you 00:32:16.33\00:32:17.67 under your name, 00:32:17.70\00:32:19.03 but make that another chapter, 00:32:19.07\00:32:20.70 and raise funds to get a shower truck... 00:32:20.74\00:32:24.91 Change trailer. 00:32:24.94\00:32:26.27 Change trailer, clothing 00:32:26.31\00:32:28.44 and then that'll be a chapter 00:32:28.48\00:32:29.81 that comes all under that 501 C3. 00:32:29.84\00:32:32.01 I think you mentioned, 00:32:32.05\00:32:33.38 you'd like to maybe ought to stretch than you already, 00:32:33.42\00:32:35.88 because you said earlier, 00:32:35.92\00:32:37.52 I like to start operating in different locations. 00:32:37.55\00:32:40.32 And God is calling on you right now. 00:32:40.36\00:32:42.09 But I think there's somebody you could follow up on 00:32:42.12\00:32:44.26 and just maybe. 00:32:44.29\00:32:45.63 Yeah, for sure. 00:32:45.66\00:32:47.00 Yeah, I would say go on our website, 00:32:47.03\00:32:48.76 go on the contact us and ask, you know, whatever questions, 00:32:48.80\00:32:51.93 I'll make sure to email back me or my, my assistant. 00:32:51.97\00:32:55.70 Sounds good. 00:33:05.48\00:33:07.02 Like what are some of the things 00:33:07.05\00:33:08.38 that you've been hearing about, let's say the change trailer? 00:33:08.42\00:33:11.15 Yeah. 00:33:11.19\00:33:12.52 So you mean, when someone comes to get services from us? 00:33:12.55\00:33:14.06 Yes, yes. 00:33:14.09\00:33:15.42 What are some things that they say? 00:33:15.46\00:33:16.79 Yes. 00:33:16.83\00:33:18.16 So, you know, we actually have a person that, 00:33:18.19\00:33:21.96 that came to us, and they were, 00:33:22.00\00:33:26.03 they were almost in tears, 00:33:26.07\00:33:27.40 you know, and they came up to us and, 00:33:27.44\00:33:29.57 and said, "Hey, 00:33:29.60\00:33:31.51 everything I'm wearing right now 00:33:31.54\00:33:32.87 is from you guys. 00:33:32.91\00:33:34.24 And I'm not here to get served, 00:33:34.28\00:33:35.78 you know, but because of you guys, 00:33:35.81\00:33:39.18 I've been able to get a job and get off the street." 00:33:39.21\00:33:41.95 So we hear things like that, you know. 00:33:41.98\00:33:44.99 We recently heard from someone 00:33:45.02\00:33:47.22 that was able to get moving into housing 00:33:47.26\00:33:50.19 after services with us and stuff. 00:33:50.23\00:33:52.66 That that we are, 00:33:52.69\00:33:56.36 the talk on the street about us is that we care which is huge. 00:33:56.40\00:34:01.97 They're like, you know, we come to you guys 00:34:02.00\00:34:04.11 because we know that you care about us. 00:34:04.14\00:34:05.61 Not saying 00:34:05.64\00:34:06.98 that the other organizations don't care 00:34:07.01\00:34:09.38 but for that to stand out to them is, 00:34:09.41\00:34:12.95 was huge for us 00:34:12.98\00:34:14.32 because that's what we want to show, you know. 00:34:14.35\00:34:16.18 This is service and love together 00:34:16.22\00:34:18.45 with the salt of the earth, you know. 00:34:18.49\00:34:19.82 We want them to know that we love them, 00:34:19.85\00:34:22.06 that we care about them, you know. 00:34:22.09\00:34:24.59 So that's been exciting to hear some of those things you know. 00:34:24.63\00:34:28.63 Absolutely. 00:34:28.66\00:34:30.00 I think we should check out some pictures, 00:34:30.03\00:34:31.37 what do you think? 00:34:31.40\00:34:32.73 I think we should and as we go through those 00:34:32.77\00:34:34.10 describe it 00:34:34.14\00:34:35.47 and so that those who are not watching 00:34:35.50\00:34:36.84 could understand what it is. 00:34:36.87\00:34:38.21 Walk through some of those 00:34:38.24\00:34:39.57 because this ministry is amazing. 00:34:39.61\00:34:40.94 We had so many way, 00:34:40.98\00:34:42.31 we had to kind of narrow it down 00:34:42.34\00:34:43.68 but what an amazing thing 00:34:43.71\00:34:45.05 that people could find out more about it. 00:34:45.08\00:34:46.41 Let's bring one of those pictures here. 00:34:46.45\00:34:47.78 Yeah, so basically the concept 00:34:47.82\00:34:49.85 is three vehicles and three trailers. 00:34:49.88\00:34:52.32 Each vehicle pulling a trailer, you have the van, 00:34:52.35\00:34:55.56 the 15-passenger van which we also use for shuttling 00:34:55.59\00:34:58.09 that can pull our clothing trailer. 00:34:58.13\00:34:59.49 A truck that can pull the shower trailer. 00:34:59.53\00:35:02.86 And then we'd have a laundry trailer 00:35:02.90\00:35:04.33 that can get pulled by a box truck 00:35:04.37\00:35:05.93 or another truck as well, 00:35:05.97\00:35:08.07 the box truck being used for storage services. 00:35:08.10\00:35:11.37 So that's the concept. 00:35:11.41\00:35:12.84 And those are the services that we would, 00:35:12.87\00:35:15.41 we aim to provide through these vehicles, right? 00:35:15.44\00:35:18.75 So you have the showers, 00:35:18.78\00:35:20.25 the haircuts, the clothes, food, hygiene product, 00:35:20.28\00:35:24.02 you have laundry storage, 00:35:24.05\00:35:26.82 you have shuttle services, mail services, 00:35:26.86\00:35:28.99 they don't have an address. 00:35:29.02\00:35:30.36 So we got a PO Box 00:35:30.39\00:35:31.76 so that they can get their stuff mailed to us. 00:35:31.79\00:35:33.63 And we bring it to them whenever we get it. 00:35:33.66\00:35:36.90 And then diversion services. 00:35:36.93\00:35:38.27 So that's basically case management services, 00:35:38.30\00:35:40.84 you know, because we don't want to just end it at, 00:35:40.87\00:35:44.17 you know, here's some services, see you later. 00:35:44.21\00:35:46.64 We want to be able to connect them 00:35:46.68\00:35:48.01 with the other organizations 00:35:48.04\00:35:49.38 that could take them on to that next step 00:35:49.41\00:35:51.48 to end their homelessness. 00:35:51.51\00:35:54.32 Wait, how did you grab that? 00:35:54.35\00:35:56.12 Because that's, the two things that just shocked me was, okay, 00:35:56.15\00:35:59.89 you allow people that don't have an address 00:35:59.92\00:36:02.92 to use your PO Box, so they could get corresponded. 00:36:02.96\00:36:05.53 So you become the mail service also. 00:36:05.56\00:36:07.26 Right, right. 00:36:07.30\00:36:08.63 And the other part, reiterate that, 00:36:08.66\00:36:12.23 getting people connected to resources. 00:36:12.27\00:36:13.60 Yeah, it's case management. 00:36:13.64\00:36:14.97 So basically, when someone comes to us, 00:36:15.00\00:36:18.41 they might get a shower, might get clothes, 00:36:18.44\00:36:20.64 might get a haircut, 00:36:20.68\00:36:22.01 but they might need something more, 00:36:22.04\00:36:23.38 like, for example, that guy that came on Tuesday, 00:36:23.41\00:36:25.85 was looking for a job, got showered, got the clothes, 00:36:25.88\00:36:28.72 got the job. 00:36:28.75\00:36:30.09 Now is going to be working with our case manager 00:36:30.12\00:36:32.49 to help them maintain that job. 00:36:32.52\00:36:33.96 Do they need transportation? 00:36:33.99\00:36:35.32 Maybe they need a bus ticket. 00:36:35.36\00:36:37.03 You know, there's other people 00:36:37.06\00:36:38.39 that just don't know the services out there. 00:36:38.43\00:36:40.10 Maybe they need identification. 00:36:40.13\00:36:42.00 We can, our case manager can refer them, 00:36:42.03\00:36:44.27 warm transfer them in, 00:36:44.30\00:36:46.13 you can say to that organization 00:36:46.17\00:36:48.14 that can help them with those. 00:36:48.17\00:36:50.27 There's an organization that's starting up 00:36:50.31\00:36:51.74 right next to us called First Steps, 00:36:51.77\00:36:53.71 which helps those 00:36:53.74\00:36:55.08 that are experiencing homelessness, 00:36:55.11\00:36:56.64 find employment and break those barriers 00:36:56.68\00:36:58.78 that prevent them from being employed. 00:36:58.81\00:37:00.72 So that case manager is key in helping to connect us 00:37:00.75\00:37:05.42 and the people we serve to the next level 00:37:05.45\00:37:09.76 to get them to where they need to be. 00:37:09.79\00:37:11.49 So do you organize the case manager 00:37:11.53\00:37:13.93 to be at the locations, you synchronize their service? 00:37:13.96\00:37:16.23 We do. 00:37:16.26\00:37:17.60 We just hired our first case manager 00:37:17.63\00:37:20.27 in November, 00:37:20.30\00:37:21.90 hiring another one in January. 00:37:21.94\00:37:23.54 And we have four social work interns 00:37:23.57\00:37:25.74 starting with us in January as well. 00:37:25.77\00:37:27.74 So we'll have six case managers on site. 00:37:27.78\00:37:29.71 This is literally, I mean, I'm just excited 00:37:29.74\00:37:32.41 because you are changing lives on wheels. 00:37:32.45\00:37:35.32 You're not even in a building. 00:37:35.35\00:37:36.79 And how appropriate is that, Jason, 00:37:36.82\00:37:38.62 in this COVID environment where people say, 00:37:38.65\00:37:40.66 let's get social distance. 00:37:40.69\00:37:42.02 We don't want to go on the inside. 00:37:42.06\00:37:43.39 Even if they close the inside down, 00:37:43.43\00:37:45.79 SALT is still open. 00:37:45.83\00:37:47.16 We can still operate, yep. Yes. 00:37:47.20\00:37:48.66 And that's huge. 00:37:48.70\00:37:50.03 Because you're dealing with every facet, right? 00:37:50.07\00:37:53.57 So tell us about the other part of the evangelism effort, 00:37:53.60\00:37:58.41 like do you have church services? 00:37:58.44\00:37:59.94 Yes. 00:37:59.97\00:38:01.31 So we do have a mobile church 00:38:01.34\00:38:06.55 that comes out to us. 00:38:06.58\00:38:08.25 And it's actually Lighthouse Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:38:08.28\00:38:10.99 So SALT and Light, 00:38:11.02\00:38:12.35 you know, kind of funny how that works out. 00:38:12.39\00:38:14.06 It didn't put, we didn't plan it that way, 00:38:14.09\00:38:15.56 it just stood out that way. 00:38:15.59\00:38:17.16 Yeah, God planned that. Yes. 00:38:17.19\00:38:19.06 So they actually got a box truck, right? 00:38:19.09\00:38:21.40 They cut out the side of the box truck, 00:38:21.43\00:38:23.03 so it can come down and be like a stage. 00:38:23.06\00:38:26.47 So they actually come to the outreach 00:38:26.50\00:38:28.57 in that box truck 00:38:28.60\00:38:29.94 and they do service 00:38:29.97\00:38:31.31 for those experiencing homelessness once a month. 00:38:31.34\00:38:33.38 They can't, most of them 00:38:33.41\00:38:34.74 can't even get into a church right now. 00:38:34.78\00:38:37.31 So being able to bring service to them outside 00:38:37.35\00:38:39.48 is a way that we can help 00:38:39.51\00:38:40.85 kind of bring that spiritual element to them. 00:38:40.88\00:38:44.12 So we are looking to hire Bible worker too next year 00:38:44.15\00:38:47.99 to help really foster that growth. 00:38:48.02\00:38:50.33 There is one thing I want to mention 00:38:50.36\00:38:52.63 and, you know, we've come to realize 00:38:52.66\00:38:55.90 that when someone is experiencing homelessness, 00:38:55.93\00:38:59.10 it's hard for them to be consistent 00:38:59.13\00:39:01.37 in that spiritual walk, 00:39:01.40\00:39:02.77 you know, they fear for their safety every day, 00:39:02.80\00:39:05.47 you know, and so how can they be consistent 00:39:05.51\00:39:08.18 in studying the Bible and getting 00:39:08.21\00:39:09.88 but in the video, you know, we mentioned Pat 00:39:09.91\00:39:12.75 who was homeless, who we hired. 00:39:12.78\00:39:14.32 Yes. 00:39:14.35\00:39:15.68 Once he got, when we hired him, 00:39:15.72\00:39:17.19 we also moved him into a shelter 00:39:17.22\00:39:19.32 into a place where he has a bed, nice bed, 00:39:19.35\00:39:21.19 roof over his head. 00:39:21.22\00:39:22.56 And that's when 00:39:22.59\00:39:23.93 he started doing daily devotions. 00:39:23.96\00:39:25.29 You look to his Facebook now, 00:39:25.33\00:39:26.66 you can see all his daily devotions 00:39:26.70\00:39:28.03 on his Facebook, 00:39:28.06\00:39:29.40 of all the things he's studying and learning, 00:39:29.43\00:39:30.87 that's when he had sheltered that's when it really took off. 00:39:30.90\00:39:33.97 So we're really kind of working on focusing 00:39:34.00\00:39:37.41 that evangelistic effort 00:39:37.44\00:39:39.31 to kind of, you know, plant that, 00:39:39.34\00:39:40.98 sow seeds in the beginning, 00:39:41.01\00:39:42.34 you know, through a mobile service prayer, 00:39:42.38\00:39:44.78 through a Bible worker kind of coming out 00:39:44.81\00:39:46.61 doing group studies or whatever. 00:39:46.65\00:39:48.88 And then when they move into housing 00:39:48.92\00:39:50.92 really taking it to that next level, 00:39:50.95\00:39:52.52 that's kind of the thought process 00:39:52.55\00:39:53.89 behind it. 00:39:53.92\00:39:55.26 Yeah, that's huge. 00:39:55.29\00:39:56.62 One plants another waters, but God gives the increase. 00:39:56.66\00:39:59.06 Amen. That's right. 00:39:59.09\00:40:00.43 SALT, I mean, that's just powerful. 00:40:00.46\00:40:02.43 Do you see Christ method being implemented there? 00:40:02.46\00:40:04.97 Go to the people. That's right. 00:40:05.00\00:40:06.37 Take care of their needs. 00:40:06.40\00:40:07.74 People are more willing to believe what you teach, 00:40:07.77\00:40:10.31 when they see 00:40:10.34\00:40:11.67 that you're more than just what you say. 00:40:11.71\00:40:13.94 I like that we care. 00:40:13.98\00:40:15.31 Let's go, do some more pictures, 00:40:15.34\00:40:16.68 just kind of get a flavor 00:40:16.71\00:40:18.21 of what is going on with this ministry. 00:40:18.25\00:40:20.22 Yeah, that's just a picture of us 00:40:20.25\00:40:21.72 handing some water and some snack bags 00:40:21.75\00:40:23.89 out of the clothing trailer there. 00:40:23.92\00:40:26.59 We got, some of our volunteers on the left 00:40:26.62\00:40:28.86 is one of our staff members 00:40:28.89\00:40:30.53 cleaning the shower after someone used it. 00:40:30.56\00:40:34.16 So this right here is a blueprint 00:40:34.20\00:40:35.60 of our laundry trailer. 00:40:35.63\00:40:36.97 Oh, wow. 00:40:37.00\00:40:38.33 So this is, it was actually a lot more expensive 00:40:38.37\00:40:40.27 than the shower trailer. 00:40:40.30\00:40:41.64 But this is coming in January, 00:40:41.67\00:40:43.87 we still need to raise an additional 8,000 00:40:43.91\00:40:45.94 to really kind of break even with this purchase, 00:40:45.97\00:40:48.04 but we're still working on it, 00:40:48.08\00:40:49.94 still got some time before we get it. 00:40:49.98\00:40:52.08 But it is planned to be delivered 00:40:52.11\00:40:54.12 at the end of this month, beginning of next month. 00:40:54.15\00:40:55.85 It'll have six washers and dryers 00:40:55.88\00:40:57.85 that can be accessed from the outside. 00:40:57.89\00:41:00.59 Were those experiencing homelessness, 00:41:00.62\00:41:02.26 you know, what happens 00:41:02.29\00:41:03.63 is they get clothing donations, right? 00:41:03.66\00:41:05.99 And when their clothes get dirty, 00:41:06.03\00:41:07.36 what are they going to do? 00:41:07.40\00:41:08.73 You know, they can't wash them. 00:41:08.76\00:41:10.40 So what they end up doing is throwing out their clothes. 00:41:10.43\00:41:13.30 Having laundry services 00:41:13.34\00:41:14.97 will enable that clothing donation 00:41:15.00\00:41:16.77 to go even farther. 00:41:16.81\00:41:18.71 And then for us, 00:41:18.74\00:41:20.08 being able to wash the towels that we give them, 00:41:20.11\00:41:22.68 you know, it'll help us save on underwear and socks if 00:41:22.71\00:41:25.91 they're able to wash their underwear and socks, 00:41:25.95\00:41:28.42 you know, because we actually give 00:41:28.45\00:41:29.98 a pair of underwear and socks, 00:41:30.02\00:41:31.35 at least to every person that takes a shower 00:41:31.39\00:41:33.49 at the bare minimum. 00:41:33.52\00:41:34.86 But with this laundry trailer, 00:41:34.89\00:41:36.22 it could really help kind of curb 00:41:36.26\00:41:39.49 that expense a little bit, so. 00:41:39.53\00:41:41.96 Wow, wow. I'm blown away. 00:41:42.00\00:41:44.00 I mean, we could end the program right there. 00:41:44.03\00:41:45.87 Let's do a fundraiser right here. 00:41:45.90\00:41:47.77 Yeah. God has been so good to us. 00:41:47.80\00:41:50.47 It's amazing. It's crazy. 00:41:50.51\00:41:52.04 It can only be God 00:41:52.07\00:41:53.41 to see this kind of exponential growth 00:41:53.44\00:41:54.78 this year. 00:41:54.81\00:41:56.14 It's been amazing. 00:41:56.18\00:41:57.51 Let me just plug some in here right now 00:41:57.55\00:41:58.88 because then we have some more pictures. 00:41:58.91\00:42:00.25 But I know that people are watching this program 00:42:00.28\00:42:01.62 and probably saying, am I hearing right? 00:42:01.65\00:42:03.79 This young man who was once homeless 00:42:03.82\00:42:05.95 on the streets of Chicago, God said, "Get out of Chicago. 00:42:05.99\00:42:10.49 Go come on down to Orlando. 00:42:10.53\00:42:11.89 You're going to be homeless, 00:42:11.93\00:42:13.26 at least get some warm weather." 00:42:13.29\00:42:14.96 But God had deep provision for you. 00:42:15.00\00:42:16.97 I mean, think about it. 00:42:17.00\00:42:18.33 First of all the change, what was the first truck? 00:42:18.37\00:42:21.50 The change trailer with the clothing and hygiene. 00:42:21.54\00:42:24.64 Then we got the shower trailer. 00:42:24.67\00:42:26.01 Shower trailer, next one. 00:42:26.04\00:42:27.38 Next is going to be the laundry trailer. 00:42:27.41\00:42:29.28 Okay. That is huge. 00:42:29.31\00:42:31.25 I mean, can you imagine? 00:42:31.28\00:42:32.61 I have never seen, I have never seen that, 00:42:32.65\00:42:35.08 but the world now, 00:42:35.12\00:42:36.65 you're metamorphosizing with the world. 00:42:36.69\00:42:38.02 You're saying, "Okay, 00:42:38.05\00:42:39.39 since you can't go into the laundromat, 00:42:39.42\00:42:41.36 bring the laundromat to the streets." 00:42:41.39\00:42:42.86 Absolutely. There's a song years ago. 00:42:42.89\00:42:45.29 I know, we were in opposite world, 00:42:45.33\00:42:46.66 so this is in the back of my mind, 00:42:46.70\00:42:48.03 taking it to the streets. 00:42:48.06\00:42:49.50 You know, this little, before your time, Jason, 00:42:49.53\00:42:51.30 I don't want to make you feel too young 00:42:51.33\00:42:53.40 but it was a song years ago 00:42:53.44\00:42:54.77 by group we're taking it to the streets, 00:42:54.80\00:42:56.57 and you're taking it to the streets. 00:42:56.60\00:42:58.54 This is not about denomination. 00:42:58.57\00:43:00.88 So you're a Seventh-day Adventist Christian 00:43:00.91\00:43:02.24 and a lot of your volunteers 00:43:02.28\00:43:03.61 but there are other people 00:43:03.65\00:43:04.98 that are volunteering that are not. 00:43:05.01\00:43:06.35 They're just people that care about people. 00:43:06.38\00:43:07.72 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. 00:43:07.75\00:43:09.08 We have people 00:43:09.12\00:43:10.45 that don't identify with the faith at all. 00:43:10.49\00:43:11.82 But they love, they love people, 00:43:11.85\00:43:13.22 you know, they love people. 00:43:13.25\00:43:14.89 And they love helping. 00:43:14.92\00:43:17.13 They have this, this heart, 00:43:17.16\00:43:18.73 especially the younger the younger people. 00:43:18.76\00:43:20.60 I mean, we're talking, I'm, I guess I'm still young, 00:43:20.63\00:43:22.93 I guess too. 00:43:22.96\00:43:24.30 I hope 'cause you're really close 00:43:24.33\00:43:25.83 to my age. 00:43:25.87\00:43:27.20 I'm really hoping you consider yourself young. 00:43:27.24\00:43:29.80 Yeah, I want... 00:43:29.84\00:43:31.17 You still have black hair so you're good. 00:43:31.21\00:43:32.54 Okay, cool. 00:43:32.57\00:43:34.08 Getting a few white hairs now here and then. 00:43:34.11\00:43:36.38 But, you know, 00:43:36.41\00:43:37.75 the younger people like 20 years old, 00:43:37.78\00:43:39.41 21 years old, they're volunteering, 00:43:39.45\00:43:41.12 they're coming out. 00:43:41.15\00:43:42.48 And you see that, 00:43:42.52\00:43:43.85 that genuine heart they have for people. 00:43:43.89\00:43:45.22 And I believe that's, 00:43:45.25\00:43:46.59 that's the Spirit working through them 00:43:46.62\00:43:47.96 to have that desire 00:43:47.99\00:43:49.66 to want to impact people's lives, you know, 00:43:49.69\00:43:52.03 and so, so yeah, 00:43:52.06\00:43:54.10 we have people that don't identify 00:43:54.13\00:43:55.46 with the faith at all, 00:43:55.50\00:43:56.83 people of all denominations 00:43:56.87\00:43:58.20 that come and volunteer with us. 00:43:58.23\00:43:59.73 Yeah, it's been, it's been cool 00:43:59.77\00:44:01.10 to see that kind of come together you know. 00:44:01.14\00:44:03.74 You know, I'm glad that you mentioned that 00:44:03.77\00:44:05.34 because you're talking about 00:44:05.37\00:44:06.71 how they want to impact other people's lives. 00:44:06.74\00:44:08.51 They want to help other people. 00:44:08.54\00:44:09.94 How has SALT impacted your life? 00:44:09.98\00:44:15.08 You know, I, when I think about it, 00:44:15.12\00:44:20.59 if God did not give me this idea, 00:44:20.62\00:44:26.03 give this idea to me, 00:44:26.06\00:44:27.53 if He did not work through me to help this to grow 00:44:27.56\00:44:30.93 and if He did not continue to motivate me 00:44:30.97\00:44:33.00 to continue going, 00:44:33.03\00:44:34.37 even when things were getting really rough and tough, 00:44:34.40\00:44:39.41 I don't know where I'd be. 00:44:39.44\00:44:40.81 SALT helps me to be able to use 00:44:40.84\00:44:47.42 the potential basically to use, 00:44:47.45\00:44:51.25 God can use me to my fullest capacity 00:44:51.29\00:44:53.56 through SALT. 00:44:53.59\00:44:55.02 And because of that, 00:44:55.06\00:44:57.49 it's helping me to stay you know, just on that path. 00:44:57.53\00:45:03.23 You know, I think with anybody, if you're in the church, right? 00:45:03.26\00:45:06.50 And you're studying the Bible and you're praying, 00:45:06.53\00:45:09.74 but you're not serving, right? 00:45:09.77\00:45:11.81 You're not practicing what you preach. 00:45:11.84\00:45:14.78 Then, you know, as the Bible says, 00:45:14.81\00:45:16.68 "Faith without works is dead." 00:45:16.71\00:45:18.28 So if you're not doing those works, 00:45:18.31\00:45:21.12 then your faith slowly starts to die. 00:45:21.15\00:45:24.12 And I think, I think my faith would be dead. 00:45:24.15\00:45:26.59 I think I'd be a pew warmer at a church not doing anything. 00:45:26.62\00:45:31.69 And I don't know where I'd be to be honest. 00:45:31.73\00:45:34.76 SALT is like your oxygen. 00:45:34.80\00:45:36.40 Yeah, yeah, it does so. 00:45:36.43\00:45:38.03 And I think, I think with anybody, 00:45:38.07\00:45:39.63 you know, whatever anyone does, whatever their skills are, 00:45:39.67\00:45:42.60 whatever their desires are to do, 00:45:42.64\00:45:45.97 God has something for them, 00:45:46.01\00:45:47.58 you know, and it could look different for everybody. 00:45:47.61\00:45:50.38 But it's important for us to answer that call 00:45:50.41\00:45:52.05 and to do it 00:45:52.08\00:45:53.42 to our fullest potential, you know, 00:45:53.45\00:45:55.42 because God will work through us 00:45:55.45\00:45:57.29 to make that a reality, you know. 00:45:57.32\00:46:00.02 Amen. 00:46:00.06\00:46:01.39 Speak a little bit to the consistency in service. 00:46:01.42\00:46:05.43 How important is consistency? 00:46:05.46\00:46:10.37 Without consistency, 00:46:10.40\00:46:12.60 I believe you can't bring anyone 00:46:12.63\00:46:15.40 into the kingdom. 00:46:15.44\00:46:16.77 And when I say that, 00:46:16.81\00:46:18.14 I say that because without consistency, 00:46:18.17\00:46:21.84 you can't create relationship. 00:46:21.88\00:46:24.11 Without relationship, 00:46:24.15\00:46:25.58 how are you going to win souls to the kingdom. 00:46:25.61\00:46:28.85 And that's a key element in service. 00:46:28.88\00:46:32.02 You know, I know that a lot of time, 00:46:32.05\00:46:34.06 we like to do these, 00:46:34.09\00:46:35.46 you know, once a year things, once every quarter. 00:46:35.49\00:46:37.53 And that's, that's our service. 00:46:37.56\00:46:39.19 I remember, I saw post, I saw a post on Facebook, 00:46:39.23\00:46:42.56 I don't know who it was, but they were like, 00:46:42.60\00:46:46.33 oh, did Thanksgiving dinner. 00:46:46.37\00:46:49.40 Did my service for the year. 00:46:49.44\00:46:51.27 For the year? Yeah, yeah. 00:46:51.31\00:46:53.48 And, but that's how, that's how we think nowadays, 00:46:53.51\00:46:58.35 you know, like, I did my, I did my good deed, I'm good. 00:46:58.38\00:47:02.22 You know, it's like, it's almost like a little meter 00:47:02.25\00:47:05.82 you have to fill, right? 00:47:05.85\00:47:07.19 And, oh, let me do it in January, 00:47:07.22\00:47:08.56 and then I'm good for the rest of the year. 00:47:08.59\00:47:10.56 I mean, I don't know, 00:47:10.59\00:47:11.93 you know, but that thinking is there, 00:47:11.96\00:47:13.66 you know, and consistency is important 00:47:13.70\00:47:16.70 to win people to the kingdom. 00:47:16.73\00:47:18.37 Otherwise, you know, 00:47:18.40\00:47:20.37 I believe that maybe people can be won temporarily. 00:47:20.40\00:47:23.24 But if there's no, 00:47:23.27\00:47:24.61 you know, you hear all the time people getting baptized. 00:47:24.64\00:47:26.94 Where's the person that brought them 00:47:26.98\00:47:29.14 into the church? 00:47:29.18\00:47:30.51 You know, are they gone? 00:47:30.55\00:47:31.88 It was that just they call baptism, 00:47:31.91\00:47:33.25 and then they disappear. 00:47:33.28\00:47:34.72 You know, so relationship and consistency 00:47:34.75\00:47:36.62 is important in service. 00:47:36.65\00:47:38.25 And what do you think helps to inspire 00:47:38.29\00:47:41.96 that consistency 00:47:41.99\00:47:43.32 or motivate you to be consistent? 00:47:43.36\00:47:47.96 It's, I mean, 00:47:48.00\00:47:50.80 when you know that God has called you 00:47:50.83\00:47:53.74 to do something, 00:47:53.77\00:47:55.40 and you know it for a fact, 00:47:55.44\00:47:56.77 and He's confirmed it to you time after time after time, 00:47:56.81\00:48:00.88 then it just becomes a part of you. 00:48:00.91\00:48:03.48 You know, it really does. 00:48:03.51\00:48:04.91 And when you look at, yeah, 00:48:04.95\00:48:10.49 it just, yeah, I mean, that's 00:48:10.52\00:48:12.62 and then when you see people's lives change, 00:48:12.65\00:48:15.59 when you see people come to Christ, 00:48:15.62\00:48:16.96 when you see someone get baptized 00:48:16.99\00:48:18.39 because of God using you in their life, 00:48:18.43\00:48:24.17 how can you stop? 00:48:24.20\00:48:25.80 How can you give up? 00:48:25.83\00:48:27.17 You know, Peter, 00:48:27.20\00:48:28.54 I remember in John Chapter 6, right? 00:48:28.57\00:48:32.44 Jesus talked about eating the, 00:48:32.47\00:48:36.38 His flesh and drinking His blood, 00:48:36.41\00:48:38.41 and they were misinterpreting 00:48:38.45\00:48:40.08 and, you know, a bunch of people left Him 00:48:40.12\00:48:42.08 and then Peter said, or Jesus said, 00:48:42.12\00:48:45.25 "Are you going to go too?" 00:48:45.29\00:48:46.62 And Peter's like, "Well, where else are we going to go? 00:48:46.65\00:48:48.59 You have the words of eternal life." 00:48:48.62\00:48:50.69 You know, it's, 00:48:50.73\00:48:52.09 once you experience that, you know, I mean. 00:48:52.13\00:48:55.36 So to break that down, 00:48:55.40\00:48:57.37 God's love is the motivating factor. 00:48:57.40\00:48:59.87 Yes, amen. 00:48:59.90\00:49:01.64 Yeah, that's the umbrella. 00:49:01.67\00:49:03.20 Everything falls under that. That's right. 00:49:03.24\00:49:05.37 Let's go to a few more pictures 00:49:05.41\00:49:06.74 before the end of this first hour 00:49:06.78\00:49:08.11 and just because we have some tremendous more material 00:49:08.14\00:49:11.01 to cover in the second hour. 00:49:11.05\00:49:12.41 And then we also going to talk 00:49:12.45\00:49:13.78 about some of your future projects. 00:49:13.82\00:49:16.45 We're going to also give you some amazing statistics 00:49:16.48\00:49:18.92 about how the Lord really expanded this ministry 00:49:18.95\00:49:22.72 between last year and this year. 00:49:22.76\00:49:24.99 But let's leave that for a second hour. 00:49:25.03\00:49:26.36 Let's go to some more pictures here 00:49:26.39\00:49:27.93 and explain to our viewers and listeners. 00:49:27.96\00:49:30.53 So God did something here. 00:49:30.57\00:49:33.97 Okay, 'cause... 00:49:34.00\00:49:35.94 This is a bus, huh? This is a bus. 00:49:35.97\00:49:37.31 Okay. 00:49:37.34\00:49:38.67 So I, it was one night, 00:49:38.71\00:49:41.48 and I saw an article, news article, 00:49:41.51\00:49:43.35 and it said, this electric bus company 00:49:43.38\00:49:46.11 is coming to Orlando, 00:49:46.15\00:49:47.48 and they're going to start transitioning 00:49:47.52\00:49:50.29 all their buses to electric by 2030. 00:49:50.32\00:49:52.79 And God just put it on my mind, message that bus company. 00:49:52.82\00:49:55.92 I said, okay. I went on there. 00:49:55.96\00:49:57.53 I went on their website, 00:49:57.56\00:49:59.13 and I went on their contact us page. 00:49:59.16\00:50:01.66 Hey, guys, this is what we do. 00:50:01.70\00:50:04.07 We'd love if you have a bus just laying around. 00:50:04.10\00:50:07.44 If you would like to donate that to us, 00:50:07.47\00:50:09.40 we would like to use it for storage services 00:50:09.44\00:50:11.51 for the homeless, the homeless, they don't, they don't have, 00:50:11.54\00:50:15.88 if they go to work, 00:50:15.91\00:50:17.25 they don't have a place to store their stuff. 00:50:17.28\00:50:18.61 So they have to hide it 00:50:18.65\00:50:19.98 and what happens a lot of times their stuff gets stolen. 00:50:20.02\00:50:22.02 Some people 00:50:22.05\00:50:23.39 just don't want to leave their stuff. 00:50:23.42\00:50:24.75 So it's hard for them to go to an interview 00:50:24.79\00:50:26.12 because they have all their stuff on their back. 00:50:26.15\00:50:29.16 So then I got an email back like two or three days later. 00:50:29.19\00:50:32.93 Yeah, let's talk. 00:50:32.96\00:50:34.46 We had a meeting, 00:50:34.50\00:50:35.83 they passed it through their executives. 00:50:35.86\00:50:38.20 We're good, that's the design for the new bus 00:50:38.23\00:50:40.24 that we're going to get in the beginning of next year, 00:50:40.27\00:50:42.27 and we're going to retrofit it with lockers 00:50:42.30\00:50:43.84 and provide storage services for the homeless. 00:50:43.87\00:50:45.77 Wow. 00:50:45.81\00:50:47.14 Well, I wish you would draw it. 00:50:47.18\00:50:48.51 For those of you 00:50:48.54\00:50:49.88 that are listening to the program, 00:50:49.91\00:50:51.25 you should see Jason's face right now. 00:50:51.28\00:50:52.91 I mean, really, that's amazing. 00:50:52.95\00:50:54.42 That's an act of faith. 00:50:54.45\00:50:56.05 What I'm loving about what I'm hearing, Eric, 00:50:56.08\00:50:58.29 is, I'm going to say this, again, 00:50:58.32\00:50:59.65 you are not allowing the dusts 00:50:59.69\00:51:01.89 to gather under your foot, 00:51:01.92\00:51:03.26 you're looking at opportunities, 00:51:03.29\00:51:04.63 God is flashing things before you 00:51:04.66\00:51:06.63 and He's giving you. 00:51:06.66\00:51:08.50 And I think it was Paul, who said this to King Agrippa. 00:51:08.53\00:51:12.43 I have not been untrue to the heavenly vision. 00:51:12.47\00:51:16.87 That's powerful to be true to the heavenly vision. 00:51:16.91\00:51:19.77 So you actually getting a bus. 00:51:19.81\00:51:21.78 These buses are about 35 to 40 feet long, 00:51:21.81\00:51:24.21 some of them. 00:51:24.25\00:51:25.58 Yeah, yeah. 00:51:25.61\00:51:26.95 So we would, it would be stationary 00:51:26.98\00:51:29.98 at a site that we're at. 00:51:30.02\00:51:31.75 But, you know, the site that we're 00:51:31.79\00:51:33.32 at the Christian service center, 00:51:33.36\00:51:34.76 they actually have been so supportive, 00:51:34.79\00:51:36.49 they're giving us a lot of space to operate. 00:51:36.52\00:51:40.50 So there shouldn't be an issue with space 00:51:40.53\00:51:42.56 to provide the service to the homeless. 00:51:42.60\00:51:44.07 It's needed. 00:51:44.10\00:51:45.43 There's no place in downtown Orlando 00:51:45.47\00:51:48.17 that provides storage services 00:51:48.20\00:51:50.01 for those experiencing homelessness, 00:51:50.04\00:51:51.51 on a level like that. 00:51:51.54\00:51:52.87 Yeah, I mean, that's huge. 00:51:52.91\00:51:55.11 The mobility aspect, as you brought out earlier, 00:51:55.14\00:51:57.91 is crucial, 00:51:57.95\00:51:59.28 especially for a time such as this. 00:51:59.31\00:52:01.88 I mean, that's that is huge. 00:52:01.92\00:52:03.35 And you're affecting every single aspect, 00:52:03.39\00:52:06.59 storage, shower, changing, job, 00:52:06.62\00:52:09.72 you guys help with resume building, too, 00:52:09.76\00:52:11.13 don't you? 00:52:11.16\00:52:12.49 So we, we have an organization 00:52:12.53\00:52:13.93 that's going to be right next to us 00:52:13.96\00:52:15.30 that's going to help with all those things, 00:52:15.33\00:52:16.67 but all the job, all the job barriers 00:52:16.70\00:52:18.83 that that need to be broken down there, 00:52:18.87\00:52:20.64 they're going to be there to help with all of that, 00:52:20.67\00:52:22.54 literally, in the next building, 00:52:22.57\00:52:24.11 like a few feet away from us, so. 00:52:24.14\00:52:25.47 Yes. 00:52:25.51\00:52:26.84 You know, there's another text that came to my mind 00:52:26.88\00:52:28.44 as the preacher hear, 00:52:28.48\00:52:29.81 go into the highways and hedges 00:52:29.84\00:52:31.45 and compel all men to come, 00:52:31.48\00:52:33.05 all things are now ready. 00:52:33.08\00:52:35.02 You literally, if you were ever, 00:52:35.05\00:52:37.15 and I know you're doing this, 00:52:37.19\00:52:38.52 now you have church services intermittently, 00:52:38.55\00:52:40.26 or on a consistent basis. 00:52:40.29\00:52:41.89 These are people that would say, 00:52:41.92\00:52:43.26 "Hey, you know, I believe in SALT. 00:52:43.29\00:52:45.63 They're changing my life. 00:52:45.66\00:52:47.00 I didn't know what life, 00:52:47.03\00:52:48.43 I didn't know that life could be this good." 00:52:48.46\00:52:51.00 And when, as James says, 00:52:51.03\00:52:52.53 If you see a person hungry and destitute 00:52:52.57\00:52:54.44 and you just do one thing and don't do the other, 00:52:54.47\00:52:57.14 but if you take care of their needs, 00:52:57.17\00:52:58.97 then they're open to the gospel. 00:52:59.01\00:53:00.54 You've seen that happened. 00:53:00.58\00:53:01.91 There was a video we showed earlier. 00:53:01.94\00:53:03.48 And I want to just go back to that. 00:53:03.51\00:53:05.68 If those of you are watching, 00:53:05.71\00:53:07.05 there was a gentleman 00:53:07.08\00:53:08.42 that was in charge of the hoses. 00:53:08.45\00:53:09.85 And he said I help now with the hoses 00:53:09.88\00:53:11.49 just give us an overview of his life. 00:53:11.52\00:53:13.52 Tall, Caucasian gentleman wore one of your SALT shirts. 00:53:13.56\00:53:16.93 Yeah, yeah, he was, when Coronavirus hit, 00:53:16.96\00:53:20.90 He was already someone volunteering with us. 00:53:20.93\00:53:23.40 I mean, he was homeless himself. 00:53:23.43\00:53:26.33 But when he would, he would come and get a shower. 00:53:26.37\00:53:28.77 He was so grateful that he wanted to give back 00:53:28.80\00:53:30.71 by cleaning the shower 00:53:30.74\00:53:32.07 after each other person that showered. 00:53:32.11\00:53:34.21 And so he was just volunteering with us, right? 00:53:34.24\00:53:35.94 And we're once a month, 00:53:35.98\00:53:37.31 you know, every other week in 2019, 00:53:37.35\00:53:41.32 once a month in 2018, then once a week in 2020. 00:53:41.35\00:53:44.75 And so when we, when Coronavirus hit, 00:53:44.79\00:53:46.76 the city wanted to partner with us. 00:53:46.79\00:53:48.12 We decided to hire him 00:53:48.16\00:53:49.49 as one of our people 00:53:49.52\00:53:50.86 to help keep the shower trailer clean and sanitized. 00:53:50.89\00:53:54.76 And as soon as we hired him, 00:53:54.80\00:53:57.37 we also moved him into shelter 00:53:57.40\00:53:58.73 through a partnership with the Hilton Orlando. 00:53:58.77\00:54:00.67 Got him into a hotel for about three and a half months. 00:54:00.70\00:54:04.01 Really nice hotel, $100 a night. 00:54:04.04\00:54:06.57 And what we're planning to do... 00:54:06.61\00:54:09.04 Did they donate that? 00:54:09.08\00:54:10.41 They donated it, yeah. 00:54:10.45\00:54:11.78 They donated over $100,000 in rooms to SALT. 00:54:11.81\00:54:15.68 Yeah, it's crazy. 00:54:15.72\00:54:17.15 Do you see how God is moving through this organization, 00:54:17.19\00:54:20.22 through SALT? 00:54:20.26\00:54:21.59 I mean, where He, where He calls you, 00:54:21.62\00:54:23.83 where He leads He provides. 00:54:23.86\00:54:25.69 That's right. 00:54:25.73\00:54:27.06 That was another late in, 00:54:27.10\00:54:28.43 my wife and I were just sitting on the couch late at night 00:54:28.46\00:54:31.07 and just got message the Hilton. 00:54:31.10\00:54:34.80 Okay. 00:54:34.84\00:54:36.17 We wanted to have a safe place where staff can go 00:54:36.20\00:54:38.94 and shower and get cleaned up 00:54:38.97\00:54:40.31 before they go home 00:54:40.34\00:54:41.68 so they don't bring anything back 00:54:41.71\00:54:43.04 to their families. 00:54:43.08\00:54:44.41 Just so happened 00:54:44.45\00:54:45.78 that same hotel we reached out to 00:54:45.81\00:54:47.15 was the same hotel that was housing 00:54:47.18\00:54:48.52 the National Guard doing testing, 00:54:48.55\00:54:49.88 perfect, the perfect hotel. 00:54:49.92\00:54:51.79 I didn't reach out to any other hotels. 00:54:51.82\00:54:53.52 It was that hotel. 00:54:53.56\00:54:55.99 And so I just, I know 00:54:56.02\00:54:57.63 God was definitely leading in that, so. 00:54:57.66\00:55:00.93 Wow, wow. 00:55:00.96\00:55:02.30 This is an exciting program that I'm listening to here. 00:55:02.33\00:55:04.97 Let's hit about a couple more pictures 00:55:05.00\00:55:06.37 and see what we could do before the first hour is done. 00:55:06.40\00:55:08.67 And by the way, Jason, very quickly 00:55:08.70\00:55:10.04 remind our audience 00:55:10.07\00:55:11.41 about how they could send questions in. 00:55:11.44\00:55:13.07 Because there may be somebody 00:55:13.11\00:55:14.44 that's going to take you up on that offer 00:55:14.48\00:55:15.81 to start a ministry 00:55:15.84\00:55:17.18 in a different chapter of the nation. 00:55:17.21\00:55:18.55 That's right. 00:55:18.58\00:55:19.91 We have a couple ways you can text your questions, 00:55:19.95\00:55:21.28 we recommend this way, 00:55:21.32\00:55:22.65 text your questions to (618) 228-3975 00:55:22.68\00:55:27.06 or email Live@3abn.tv. 00:55:27.09\00:55:30.76 Or feel free to call and speak to a live person 00:55:30.79\00:55:34.50 at (618) 627-4651. 00:55:34.53\00:55:38.27 Okay. 00:55:38.30\00:55:39.63 And this is the last picture in this section here. 00:55:39.67\00:55:43.57 Let's bring that up. 00:55:43.61\00:55:44.94 Oh, no, it's third, the last. 00:55:44.97\00:55:46.61 So that's our staff. 00:55:46.64\00:55:47.98 Some of our staff that I just want to show 00:55:48.01\00:55:50.35 who's on the front lines. 00:55:50.38\00:55:51.78 Go to the next picture there. 00:55:51.81\00:55:53.55 It's another picture of our, 00:55:53.58\00:55:54.92 of another one of our staff members 00:55:54.95\00:55:56.58 included there. 00:55:56.62\00:55:57.95 Next picture. 00:55:57.99\00:55:59.32 So this right here is the impact. 00:55:59.35\00:56:01.49 Now this is just, we actually went through, 00:56:01.52\00:56:03.73 it took some sleepless nights, 00:56:03.76\00:56:06.19 I went through each individual 00:56:06.23\00:56:07.93 that's got served with us from mid-March, 00:56:07.96\00:56:10.67 when the pandemic started to the end of September. 00:56:10.70\00:56:13.37 We found out that 17% of the people 00:56:13.40\00:56:16.40 that got services from us 00:56:16.44\00:56:17.77 after services got moved into shelter housing. 00:56:17.81\00:56:20.78 We found out that 30% took the next step 00:56:20.81\00:56:23.85 to end their homelessness after services with us. 00:56:23.88\00:56:26.15 Now that's getting ID, getting health care, 00:56:26.18\00:56:28.55 getting case management, 00:56:28.58\00:56:30.32 you know, whatever that next step 00:56:30.35\00:56:31.69 was for them, they took it. 00:56:31.72\00:56:33.96 We're able to confirm that through a system 00:56:33.99\00:56:35.59 that the city of Orlando has that we could look at. 00:56:35.62\00:56:38.29 And so, and then we also found 00:56:38.33\00:56:40.40 that one in five people that came to us for services 00:56:40.43\00:56:43.67 were new to homelessness. 00:56:43.70\00:56:46.23 And it's, with the pandemic happening, 00:56:46.27\00:56:48.70 businesses shutting down. 00:56:48.74\00:56:50.07 I mean, it's become a reality for a lot of people. 00:56:50.11\00:56:53.27 So this, I anticipate that what we are doing 00:56:53.31\00:56:56.44 is going to be more and more needed 00:56:56.48\00:56:57.81 as time progresses, 00:56:57.85\00:56:59.18 because the eviction at least in Florida, 00:56:59.21\00:57:02.12 the eviction notices 00:57:02.15\00:57:03.49 that can't be postponed anymore. 00:57:03.52\00:57:04.85 People are starting to get evicted, so. 00:57:04.89\00:57:06.69 Yeah, yeah. 00:57:06.72\00:57:08.06 I've been seeing a lot of that. 00:57:08.09\00:57:09.42 Yeah, I mean, it's huge what's taking place 00:57:09.46\00:57:12.16 because some people just need help. 00:57:12.19\00:57:14.23 Not everybody is homeless due to horrible choices. 00:57:14.26\00:57:17.83 Sometimes it's circumstances that you know, 00:57:17.87\00:57:20.44 lead to that homelessness. 00:57:20.47\00:57:22.27 And so that's really, really good. 00:57:22.30\00:57:24.34 Well, the first hour has gone real fast, Jason. 00:57:24.37\00:57:26.54 Take us down to the zero for the next hour 00:57:26.57\00:57:28.24 what could we look forward to? 00:57:28.28\00:57:29.61 Oh, we've got an exciting second hour. 00:57:29.64\00:57:31.21 We're going to learn 00:57:31.25\00:57:32.58 more about the Ministry of SALT, 00:57:32.61\00:57:33.95 answer some wonderful questions, 00:57:33.98\00:57:36.25 and talks for more about Pat as well. 00:57:36.28\00:57:38.62 We will be right back. 00:57:38.65\00:57:40.19 Don't go anywhere. 00:57:40.22\00:57:41.56
