Ah-hah. 00:08:25.07\00:08:26.97 Okay, we'll be there in not so long for now. 00:08:27.04\00:08:29.04 And what were you gonna say on that one, Rick? 00:08:29.07\00:08:30.44 And the new puppy. Oh, yeah, the new puppy. 00:08:30.51\00:08:32.54 A 10-week-old puppy. 00:08:32.57\00:08:34.08 Okay, what kind do you have? 00:08:34.11\00:08:35.44 It is a Cavapoo. 00:08:35.48\00:08:36.85 Okay. 00:08:36.88\00:08:38.21 It's a Poodle mixed with something else. 00:08:38.25\00:08:41.05 A pretty dog that doesn't shed. 00:08:41.08\00:08:42.42 Beautiful dog. Okay. 00:08:42.45\00:08:43.79 Exactly. That's good. 00:08:43.82\00:08:45.15 We know when you get older, you like those kind of dogs. 00:08:45.19\00:08:46.52 They don't shed. 00:08:46.55\00:08:47.89 Just come in the house but don't bring anything, 00:08:47.92\00:08:49.26 no evidences with you. 00:08:49.29\00:08:50.63 Hypoallergenic, yeah. Yes. 00:08:50.66\00:08:52.26 And, Rick, good to have you here. 00:08:52.29\00:08:53.83 And you've been here before. You're not a stranger to 3ABN. 00:08:53.90\00:08:56.40 I have been out here many times for many years. 00:08:56.43\00:08:59.10 Okay. 00:08:59.13\00:09:00.57 Well, let our viewers and listeners know who you are. 00:09:00.60\00:09:03.00 So I am Rick Kajiura and I am the communication director 00:09:03.04\00:09:06.44 for the office of Adventist Mission 00:09:06.47\00:09:08.14 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church world headquarters. 00:09:08.18\00:09:11.18 And I grew up in Canada and now I live in Maryland. 00:09:11.21\00:09:15.12 And Japanese background 00:09:15.15\00:09:17.89 but I don't say my name the way the Japanese would. 00:09:17.92\00:09:20.72 Okay, well, I just helped your heritage tonight? 00:09:20.79\00:09:23.49 You sure did. Okay. 00:09:23.56\00:09:25.33 Good to have you here tonight. 00:09:25.36\00:09:26.73 Tell us about missions 00:09:26.76\00:09:28.06 and give us a little overview of Adventist Missions? 00:09:28.10\00:09:31.80 Yes, sure. We care for two areas. 00:09:31.83\00:09:34.37 As I said, global mission church planting 00:09:34.40\00:09:37.41 with a particular focus on new people groups 00:09:37.44\00:09:40.98 and geographical areas. 00:09:41.01\00:09:43.88 So the cities loom large on our horizon. 00:09:43.95\00:09:47.32 And tonight, we are focusing specifically 00:09:47.35\00:09:50.02 on the annual sacrifice offering 00:09:50.09\00:09:51.62 which we collect once a year... 00:09:51.65\00:09:53.02 Yes. 00:09:53.05\00:09:54.39 That goes to help global mission work around the world. 00:09:54.42\00:09:56.93 And so that will be funding church planters. 00:09:56.96\00:10:00.90 Usually indigenous working among their own people. 00:10:00.93\00:10:03.63 It will help with urban centers of influence 00:10:03.67\00:10:07.54 in the great cities of the world. 00:10:07.60\00:10:09.07 And helping us to build bridges of understanding 00:10:09.10\00:10:12.51 with different religions and worldviews 00:10:12.54\00:10:15.01 that we really haven't interacted within the past. 00:10:15.04\00:10:17.01 Yes. 00:10:17.05\00:10:18.38 Talk about urban centers of influence 'cause that's a... 00:10:18.41\00:10:20.48 Yeah. I know what that is. 00:10:20.52\00:10:21.85 But somebody might say, "Well, okay, 00:10:21.88\00:10:23.55 it's an influential center and an open community." 00:10:23.59\00:10:25.42 But broaden on to that, pretty much in a nutshell. 00:10:25.45\00:10:27.86 Basically, it's an idea 00:10:27.89\00:10:29.22 that was floated a 100 years ago 00:10:29.26\00:10:31.09 by Ellen White, 00:10:31.13\00:10:32.46 the co-founder of the Adventist Church, 00:10:32.49\00:10:33.86 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:10:33.90\00:10:35.20 And she talked about ministry centers 00:10:35.23\00:10:38.27 in urban areas that would be platforms 00:10:38.30\00:10:40.67 for putting Christ method of ministering into practice. 00:10:40.70\00:10:42.94 Okay. 00:10:42.97\00:10:44.31 So rather than coming into an urban area 00:10:44.34\00:10:45.94 and just preaching at people, we actually come and we mingle, 00:10:45.97\00:10:50.88 we look and listen, we find out what their needs are. 00:10:50.91\00:10:53.85 We show sympathy, we minister to those needs 00:10:53.88\00:10:56.65 and we win confidence of people and that takes some time. 00:10:56.72\00:10:59.75 And then we bid them to follow Jesus. 00:10:59.79\00:11:01.79 So an urban center of influence could be a cafe, 00:11:01.82\00:11:03.93 it could be a restaurant, 00:11:03.96\00:11:05.29 it could be a secondhand clothes store, 00:11:05.33\00:11:06.73 could be English as a second language center. 00:11:06.80\00:11:09.60 Doesn't matter what it is 00:11:09.63\00:11:10.97 as long as it's connecting with urban needs. 00:11:11.00\00:11:12.70 Okay. 00:11:12.73\00:11:14.10 And, Rick, as a communications director, 00:11:14.14\00:11:16.27 how have you seen, add your components 00:11:16.30\00:11:18.34 to what your experience has been 00:11:18.37\00:11:19.91 with Adventist Missions? 00:11:19.94\00:11:21.61 As Gary said, we focus on two areas. 00:11:21.64\00:11:23.85 And one is just helping church members around the world 00:11:23.91\00:11:28.05 understand what the church is doing in mission 00:11:28.08\00:11:30.15 because sometimes you don't hear about it. 00:11:30.19\00:11:32.22 And when you are a global church, 00:11:32.25\00:11:33.92 it's nice to know 00:11:33.96\00:11:35.29 that there are people doing things 00:11:35.32\00:11:36.69 in other parts of the world. 00:11:36.73\00:11:38.06 As far as the global mission side in reaching the unreached, 00:11:38.09\00:11:40.56 when you think about "Well, who are the unreached?" 00:11:40.60\00:11:42.30 Mm-hmm. 00:11:42.33\00:11:43.70 And if you think that of the entire world population, 00:11:43.73\00:11:46.47 one-third is Christian. 00:11:46.50\00:11:48.24 That means two-thirds of the world 00:11:48.27\00:11:50.14 has not heard the gospel, hasn't heard about Jesus. 00:11:50.17\00:11:53.41 They don't know Him. 00:11:53.44\00:11:54.78 So that's a tremendous challenge 00:11:54.81\00:11:56.88 that still remains out there. 00:11:56.91\00:11:58.55 Okay, that's a wall if you really think about it. 00:11:58.58\00:12:00.82 Because in any society, 00:12:00.85\00:12:03.89 I mean, doesn't even mean in modern times 00:12:03.92\00:12:06.02 but in all generations, 00:12:06.05\00:12:07.69 it's hard to walk into a people group 00:12:07.72\00:12:09.22 that don't even know who you are. 00:12:09.26\00:12:11.43 And just immediately penetrate there, 00:12:11.46\00:12:13.83 intellect to just share with them the gospel 00:12:13.90\00:12:15.80 that they are completely unfamiliar with. 00:12:15.83\00:12:18.17 So you take the measure, you know, when they see 00:12:18.20\00:12:20.80 that you're concerned about their needs. 00:12:20.84\00:12:22.24 Talk about some of that? 00:12:22.27\00:12:23.61 How do you work that in there? 00:12:23.67\00:12:25.41 How do you kind of get past that roadblock as it were? 00:12:25.44\00:12:29.11 Well, I think that when we meet people where they are at, 00:12:29.14\00:12:33.05 rather than expecting them to come to us, 00:12:33.08\00:12:35.02 that's a very important first step. 00:12:35.05\00:12:37.35 It's not just a matter of trying 00:12:37.39\00:12:38.72 to attract people to us, 00:12:38.75\00:12:40.09 to our programs, to our initiative. 00:12:40.12\00:12:41.46 We actually follow Christ example 00:12:41.49\00:12:43.63 of going to where people are 00:12:43.69\00:12:45.09 which is in incarnational model. 00:12:45.13\00:12:47.60 And, you know, it's not easy. 00:12:47.60\00:12:50.80 I mean, and it wasn't easy for Jesus to come 00:12:50.83\00:12:53.47 to a totally different context. 00:12:53.50\00:12:54.84 But, that's what mission is all about. 00:12:54.87\00:12:57.04 Moving out of our comfort zones to meet people 00:12:57.07\00:12:59.64 where they're at and as Ellen White says 00:12:59.67\00:13:02.51 that this model of Jesus' method of ministry 00:13:02.54\00:13:05.18 is the only method that brings true success. 00:13:05.21\00:13:07.88 That we actually connect with people at their level, 00:13:07.92\00:13:10.79 at their needs. 00:13:10.82\00:13:12.15 We win their confidence 00:13:12.19\00:13:13.52 and once you have people's confidence, 00:13:13.56\00:13:15.19 they're open to listening to the good news about Jesus. 00:13:15.22\00:13:18.16 Oh, you're not crossing a bridge, 00:13:18.19\00:13:19.53 you're actually building a bridge. 00:13:19.56\00:13:20.90 Exactly. 00:13:20.93\00:13:22.23 And you're building that bridge together. 00:13:22.26\00:13:23.63 Exactly. 00:13:23.67\00:13:25.00 You wanna add something to that, Rick? 00:13:25.03\00:13:26.37 Oh, I just think that, 00:13:26.40\00:13:27.74 you know, as we're building bridges, 00:13:27.77\00:13:29.10 you know, people come 00:13:29.14\00:13:30.47 from so many different backgrounds 00:13:30.51\00:13:31.84 that if we understand better where they're coming from, 00:13:31.87\00:13:35.28 we can help them get 00:13:35.31\00:13:36.64 to where we would like them to be 00:13:36.71\00:13:38.05 which is to know Jesus. 00:13:38.08\00:13:39.41 That's right. 00:13:39.45\00:13:40.78 But sometimes we're good at preaching, 00:13:40.82\00:13:42.15 but we also need to be good at listening first. 00:13:42.18\00:13:43.52 Hmm. That's very good. 00:13:43.55\00:13:45.09 When you listen, you hear. 00:13:45.12\00:13:47.02 And when you speak, you don't hear. 00:13:47.06\00:13:49.36 But we have some... 00:13:49.39\00:13:50.89 You know what I'm excited about this program tonight, 00:13:50.93\00:13:52.83 you have some really good video information 00:13:52.86\00:13:57.53 that will help people that are watching the program 00:13:57.57\00:14:00.07 to understand some of the areas of the world where, 00:14:00.14\00:14:03.61 you know, Adventist Missions have really penetrated. 00:14:03.64\00:14:06.44 I want you to set up our first video here. 00:14:06.47\00:14:07.98 It's a feed the university, feed the community. 00:14:08.01\00:14:11.68 Talk about that. 00:14:11.71\00:14:13.05 It's very interesting title. 00:14:13.08\00:14:14.42 So this is in the country of Mozambique. 00:14:14.45\00:14:16.99 And there are missionaries from Brazil 00:14:17.02\00:14:20.16 who've gone over there to work at the university. 00:14:20.19\00:14:22.59 And this is their story. 00:14:22.62\00:14:23.96 So when people in the Adventist Church 00:14:24.03\00:14:25.96 get mission offerings, they say, "Where did they go? 00:14:25.99\00:14:27.96 What did they do?" 00:14:27.96\00:14:29.30 These are some of the things that they're helping support. 00:14:29.33\00:14:31.73 Okay, well, let's look at that video roll right now. 00:14:31.77\00:14:33.70 We are in front of Adventist University of Mozambique. 00:14:38.04\00:14:41.98 It's located in Beira 00:14:42.01\00:14:43.71 which is near the center of the country 00:14:43.75\00:14:46.25 and right off the sea. 00:14:46.28\00:14:47.68 The story of how we arrived in here is interesting. 00:14:47.72\00:14:50.95 I was a theology professor in FAAMA, 00:14:50.99\00:14:54.06 the Adventist University of the Amazon 00:14:54.12\00:14:57.29 near Belem, Brazil. 00:14:57.33\00:14:58.99 Malu, my wife, was the vocational coordinator 00:14:59.03\00:15:02.20 in the same institution. 00:15:02.23\00:15:03.77 We were very comfortable. 00:15:03.80\00:15:05.77 But then I received an email inviting me 00:15:05.80\00:15:09.14 to teach at the Adventist University of Mozambique. 00:15:09.17\00:15:12.77 I was uncertain at first. 00:15:12.81\00:15:14.94 I had never thought about overseas mission. 00:15:14.98\00:15:18.45 What would it be like? 00:15:18.48\00:15:20.02 How would my family adjust? 00:15:20.05\00:15:22.65 Many things went through my mind. 00:15:22.68\00:15:24.89 But I had to share the news with my wife first. 00:15:24.92\00:15:28.69 When he told me about the email, 00:15:28.72\00:15:30.16 I responded, "Really? 00:15:30.23\00:15:31.56 Let's go. 00:15:31.59\00:15:32.93 Let's go right away." 00:15:32.96\00:15:34.56 Malu's response caught Dr. Heraldo by surprise. 00:15:34.60\00:15:38.30 Part of him hoped she would turn down the invitation. 00:15:38.33\00:15:41.14 But when she immediately accepted it, 00:15:41.17\00:15:43.14 he saw it as God's approval to go. 00:15:43.17\00:15:46.11 When they arrived, 00:15:46.14\00:15:47.48 the university campus was in decay. 00:15:47.54\00:15:49.28 And the students and staff 00:15:49.31\00:15:50.75 lacked the most basic necessities like food. 00:15:50.81\00:15:54.55 This is a charcoal oven. 00:15:54.58\00:15:56.99 You put the charcoal below and a pan on top. 00:15:57.05\00:16:00.29 It is a typical oven in this nation. 00:16:00.32\00:16:03.39 One day, I found a school worker 00:16:03.46\00:16:05.69 cooking rice in a small pan 00:16:05.73\00:16:07.73 with a bit of cabbage on top. 00:16:07.76\00:16:09.93 I asked him if that was his only meal for the day. 00:16:09.96\00:16:14.14 The man said, "Yes, this is my only meal today." 00:16:14.17\00:16:18.57 So I asked him if that was going to be enough 00:16:18.61\00:16:21.68 to feed him. 00:16:21.71\00:16:23.04 And he said, "Oh, no. 00:16:23.08\00:16:24.41 This is not just for me. 00:16:24.45\00:16:26.48 It is for me and two other people." 00:16:26.51\00:16:29.48 Dr. Heraldo returned to his office in tears. 00:16:29.52\00:16:32.39 He and Malu knew the students 00:16:32.42\00:16:34.09 couldn't study and learn on empty stomachs. 00:16:34.16\00:16:36.42 So they prayed together for God to provide. 00:16:36.46\00:16:39.46 He answered their prayers through a missionary 00:16:39.49\00:16:41.30 who donated funds to start a cafeteria. 00:16:41.33\00:16:43.87 Now the university serves daily meals to students and staff. 00:16:43.93\00:16:47.04 Many other positive changes are happening 00:16:58.45\00:17:00.35 at the Adventist University of Mozambique. 00:17:00.38\00:17:02.98 New school buildings and fields of study have been added. 00:17:03.02\00:17:05.79 And the student body has doubled in two years. 00:17:05.82\00:17:08.92 The campus church was dilapidated 00:17:08.96\00:17:10.86 and the roof leaked when it rained. 00:17:10.89\00:17:12.63 But now it has been renovated. 00:17:12.66\00:17:15.23 A new library was built and books were donated. 00:17:15.26\00:17:18.10 And the university has now received 00:17:18.13\00:17:19.77 the highest level of accreditation in Mozambique. 00:17:19.80\00:17:22.87 The faculty has also developed a mission institute 00:17:22.90\00:17:25.51 to equip students for mission in action. 00:17:25.54\00:17:28.88 After lunch on Sabbath, 00:17:28.91\00:17:30.35 the students come here to receive the training. 00:17:30.38\00:17:32.88 Then, they are divided into groups 00:17:32.91\00:17:35.68 to visit children, elderly, 00:17:35.72\00:17:38.32 former member of the Adventist Church, 00:17:38.35\00:17:41.12 and the sick giving Bible studies as they go. 00:17:41.16\00:17:45.56 Visiting the surrounding area has greatly impacted 00:17:45.59\00:17:49.60 both the community and the lives of the students. 00:17:49.63\00:17:53.13 Some people we reach out to, 00:17:53.17\00:17:55.54 have already accepted Jesus and were baptized. 00:17:55.57\00:17:59.54 In the previous year alone, 00:17:59.57\00:18:01.04 this program has strengthened the faith of many. 00:18:01.08\00:18:03.41 Even resulting in 17 baptisms 00:18:03.48\00:18:05.85 and the excitement for mission continues to grow. 00:18:05.88\00:18:08.48 We aim to develop a fully mission-minded university 00:18:08.52\00:18:12.65 that prepares students 00:18:12.69\00:18:14.12 to fulfill God's mission for us. 00:18:14.19\00:18:18.19 God can use us even in simple ways. 00:18:18.23\00:18:21.33 God has used us and we feel like 00:18:21.36\00:18:23.70 we're making a difference here. 00:18:23.77\00:18:25.83 But there are still many challenges ahead. 00:18:25.87\00:18:27.94 Students and staff 00:18:27.97\00:18:29.30 at the Adventist University of Mozambique 00:18:29.34\00:18:31.14 now pray for funds 00:18:31.17\00:18:32.51 to expand the food in nutrition department 00:18:32.54\00:18:34.74 with a hands-on learning environment. 00:18:34.78\00:18:36.98 Their goal is to hold health expos. 00:18:37.05\00:18:38.91 So they can share the health message with the community. 00:18:38.95\00:18:41.95 Please pray for cross-cultural missionaries 00:18:41.98\00:18:44.29 like Dr. Heraldo and Malu 00:18:44.32\00:18:46.45 who are serving in remote parts of the world. 00:18:46.49\00:18:48.96 Pray also for the goals 00:18:48.99\00:18:50.33 of the Adventist University of Mozambique. 00:18:50.36\00:18:52.66 And thank you for your support of Adventist mission. 00:18:52.69\00:18:55.56 I know you enjoyed that video. 00:19:02.74\00:19:04.74 I got hungry towards the end of the video. 00:19:04.77\00:19:06.94 Did you see those rolls coming out of the oven? 00:19:07.01\00:19:08.84 That's an open. 00:19:08.88\00:19:10.21 Boy, I just thought right now 00:19:10.28\00:19:11.61 is a good time to just have some of those right here 00:19:11.65\00:19:13.35 with a little bit of butter. 00:19:13.38\00:19:14.72 But we talked about this at the beginning of the program 00:19:14.75\00:19:18.45 about the annual sacrifice offerings. 00:19:18.49\00:19:21.42 Tell us how significant that is when it comes to programs 00:19:21.46\00:19:25.56 and missions like this? 00:19:25.59\00:19:26.93 Sure, you know, back in 1922, 00:19:26.96\00:19:29.03 the Adventist Church mission program was in crisis. 00:19:29.06\00:19:32.40 The treasury looked at the funds they had. 00:19:32.43\00:19:35.34 They looked at their mission program, 00:19:35.37\00:19:36.71 they could no longer fund it. 00:19:36.74\00:19:38.54 So they got together a committee 00:19:38.57\00:19:40.58 of conference presidents. 00:19:40.61\00:19:41.94 They prayed about it 00:19:41.98\00:19:43.35 and they came up with this idea of "Let's ask every pastor, 00:19:43.38\00:19:46.55 every church worker to give up a week's salary." 00:19:46.58\00:19:50.49 And that started the annual sacrifice offering. 00:19:50.52\00:19:52.99 It was a weekly sacrifice offering. 00:19:53.02\00:19:55.06 And so that rescued the mission program in 1923. 00:19:55.09\00:19:59.86 And since then, we've continued on with an annual sacrifice. 00:19:59.89\00:20:02.86 Some people give up a week's wages, 00:20:02.90\00:20:04.47 some sacrifice something else. 00:20:04.50\00:20:06.37 When I was a kid, I remember my parents 00:20:06.40\00:20:07.94 would give up every year a week's salary. 00:20:07.97\00:20:11.14 But today, we just encourage people 00:20:11.17\00:20:12.74 that this money is now going to global mission 00:20:12.77\00:20:15.31 which will be starting new groups of believers 00:20:15.34\00:20:18.71 in new areas of the world and among new people groups. 00:20:18.75\00:20:22.45 And every cent that is given to annual sacrifice offering 00:20:22.48\00:20:26.02 helps that specific mission. 00:20:26.05\00:20:27.79 It funds global mission pioneers planting churches. 00:20:27.82\00:20:31.06 It helps fund centers of influence. 00:20:31.09\00:20:34.10 So it is what is multiplying 00:20:34.13\00:20:36.46 the work of the church around the world, 00:20:36.50\00:20:38.10 so last year every four hours 00:20:38.13\00:20:40.40 a new Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:20:40.47\00:20:41.97 is organized somewhere, 00:20:42.00\00:20:43.54 plus many new companies. 00:20:43.57\00:20:44.91 And that would not happen 00:20:44.94\00:20:46.27 if it wasn't for focus on church planting. 00:20:46.31\00:20:48.11 And, Rick, you talked about a specific area of the world 00:20:48.14\00:20:50.78 where this helps quite a bit. 00:20:50.81\00:20:52.58 Was it 10/40 Window? 00:20:52.61\00:20:54.08 A 10/40 Window is an area of the world 00:20:54.15\00:20:56.28 that's 10 degrees North latitude 00:20:56.32\00:20:59.22 to 40 degrees North latitude. 00:20:59.25\00:21:01.29 Basically from the Middle East all the way to Asia. 00:21:01.32\00:21:04.03 And if you look at the entire world, 00:21:04.06\00:21:05.59 that is where we have 00:21:05.63\00:21:07.00 the fewest Christians in the world. 00:21:07.03\00:21:08.36 Wow. 00:21:08.40\00:21:09.73 So it just stretches from Northwest Africa 00:21:09.76\00:21:11.10 through the Middle East into Asia 00:21:11.13\00:21:12.93 60% of the world's population. 00:21:12.97\00:21:14.37 Yeah. 00:21:14.40\00:21:15.74 And the vast majority of those people 00:21:15.77\00:21:17.84 have not even heard the name Jesus. 00:21:17.87\00:21:19.74 Wow. 00:21:19.77\00:21:21.11 And programs that are funded like this putting, 00:21:21.14\00:21:22.98 you know, advent, fixing up colleges 00:21:23.01\00:21:24.95 even planting schools and libraries 00:21:24.98\00:21:29.82 and programs for the community 00:21:29.85\00:21:31.59 is what opens the doors for the gospel to go forward. 00:21:31.62\00:21:33.42 It often does, yes. Yeah. 00:21:33.46\00:21:35.16 And I want our viewers and listeners 00:21:35.19\00:21:36.52 to know that throughout the program, 00:21:36.56\00:21:38.96 we're gonna be talking about ways 00:21:38.99\00:21:40.36 that you can become a supporter 00:21:40.40\00:21:42.76 of this annual sacrifice offerings. 00:21:42.80\00:21:45.60 A couple of ways you can do that. 00:21:45.63\00:21:46.97 One is, the website, 00:21:47.00\00:21:52.87 Global-Mission.org/MySacrifice. 00:21:52.91\00:21:58.78 You can go to that website and donate there. 00:21:58.81\00:22:01.68 Or you can call right here at (618) 627-4651. 00:22:01.72\00:22:06.96 That's once again (618) 627-4651. 00:22:06.99\00:22:11.33 And also specify that your donations 00:22:11.36\00:22:14.60 are going to be for Adventist Missions. 00:22:14.63\00:22:16.93 And we'll make sure that you receive those offerings. 00:22:16.97\00:22:19.57 But one of the things that... 00:22:19.60\00:22:21.80 I'm excited about the idea that, that 10/40 Window 00:22:21.84\00:22:24.74 and I heard about that 10/40 Window 00:22:24.77\00:22:26.47 for number of years. 00:22:26.51\00:22:27.84 It's a difficult window to penetrate 00:22:27.88\00:22:29.38 because there are so many different religions 00:22:29.41\00:22:31.51 that are there that tradition has created 00:22:31.55\00:22:34.78 almost in some cases an impenetrable wall. 00:22:34.82\00:22:37.45 But I've seen missions, 00:22:37.49\00:22:39.09 the needs of people, opening doors, 00:22:39.12\00:22:41.59 and then people begin to say, "Wait a minute, 00:22:41.62\00:22:43.59 they're not just interested in telling us. 00:22:43.63\00:22:45.83 We're seeing the gospel in action. 00:22:45.86\00:22:47.76 Why are they so sacrificial? 00:22:47.83\00:22:50.10 Why are you doing this?" 00:22:50.13\00:22:51.63 Well, because this is the mission of Jesus. 00:22:51.67\00:22:54.20 "Who?" 00:22:54.24\00:22:55.57 And the doors open up. 00:22:55.60\00:22:57.04 Set up the next video for us. 00:22:57.07\00:22:58.41 This is very interesting, the compassion unit. 00:22:58.44\00:23:01.41 So part of what we do is focus on that 10/40 Window 00:23:01.44\00:23:04.38 and the unreached areas and part of what we do is just, 00:23:04.41\00:23:06.75 as I said, 00:23:06.82\00:23:08.15 talk about what mission offerings are doing. 00:23:08.18\00:23:10.09 And every quarter of the year, 00:23:10.12\00:23:12.12 we have a special offering in the church 00:23:12.15\00:23:14.09 called The Thirteenth Sabbath Offering. 00:23:14.16\00:23:16.02 And so this is one of the projects 00:23:16.06\00:23:17.63 from the past Thirteenth Sabbath Offering. 00:23:17.66\00:23:19.33 It's in Tanzania. 00:23:19.36\00:23:20.96 I had a chance to visit here. 00:23:20.96\00:23:22.56 After the offering was taken 00:23:22.60\00:23:23.93 they were building a hospital there. 00:23:23.97\00:23:26.70 And you're talking about my last name. 00:23:26.74\00:23:28.94 When I land in Kenya and Tanzania, 00:23:28.97\00:23:31.87 and they see my name and I get off the plane. 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.04 They're looking and they say, 00:23:34.08\00:23:35.61 "I thought you would be from here." 00:23:35.64\00:23:37.65 Because they have a very similar name over there. 00:23:37.68\00:23:40.42 And my wife was a missionary student in India. 00:23:40.48\00:23:42.65 And in India, they have a similar name 00:23:42.68\00:23:44.32 as well, Kajiura. 00:23:44.35\00:23:45.82 And so when she told them she'd married somebody 00:23:45.85\00:23:47.89 and they said, "What's his name?" 00:23:47.92\00:23:49.26 And she told them. They said, "Oh, you married an Indian?" 00:23:49.29\00:23:50.79 Okay. 00:23:50.83\00:23:52.16 So when I was in Tanzania I said, "I am here. 00:23:52.19\00:23:54.30 I am a Japanese, Canadian, Indian, African." 00:23:54.36\00:23:58.43 Okay. Fully international. 00:23:58.47\00:24:00.34 But a man involved 00:24:00.37\00:24:02.00 in the compassion of the mission. 00:24:02.04\00:24:04.11 We're gonna right now look at the compassion unit. 00:24:04.14\00:24:06.61 And this has taken us to Tanzania. 00:24:06.68\00:24:09.58 Tanzania. 00:24:09.61\00:24:10.95 Adventists at once in Tanzania sold cows, goats, 00:24:14.58\00:24:18.92 and other possessions to build a new medical facility 00:24:18.95\00:24:22.16 to replace the small over-crowded Adventist clinic. 00:24:22.19\00:24:25.43 We have a lack of space for admission of patient. 00:24:25.46\00:24:30.37 That's why we try to leave this facility here. 00:24:30.43\00:24:34.47 Knowing this was a big dream, in 2013, 00:24:34.50\00:24:37.37 they asked for your help through prayers and donations 00:24:37.41\00:24:40.74 to the Thirteenth Sabbath Offering. 00:24:40.78\00:24:43.04 We appealed them to support us in offering, 00:24:43.08\00:24:46.82 in prayers in order to complete this project. 00:24:46.88\00:24:51.32 I think when we're dealing with patients, 00:24:51.35\00:24:53.25 people may see Jesus through this project, 00:24:53.32\00:24:56.02 through these services that we are doing. 00:24:56.06\00:24:58.59 Your generous giving to the mission offering 00:25:04.63\00:25:06.63 helped build a beautiful medical facility 00:25:06.67\00:25:08.97 that is spreading a message of hope 00:25:09.00\00:25:10.81 to the people of Mwanza. 00:25:10.84\00:25:12.84 The medical staff's dream is now a reality 00:25:12.87\00:25:15.41 as they admit patients into the facility. 00:25:15.44\00:25:18.31 So many people began coming here 00:25:18.35\00:25:20.32 that they not only use the new hospital building, 00:25:20.35\00:25:22.75 they even had to expand the existing clinic. 00:25:22.78\00:25:25.72 People come to this clinic because it's known as a place 00:25:25.75\00:25:28.52 with caring doctors and nurses. 00:25:28.56\00:25:30.63 And the staff take pride 00:25:30.66\00:25:31.99 in their approach to medical care. 00:25:32.03\00:25:33.73 The compassion that is in this hospital, 00:25:33.80\00:25:36.26 the way we handle patient is different. 00:25:36.30\00:25:39.23 We don't handle them like customers 00:25:39.27\00:25:42.00 or people who bring to us money. 00:25:42.04\00:25:44.71 We handle them with care. 00:25:44.74\00:25:46.34 Their safety and their wellbeing is our priority. 00:25:46.37\00:25:51.75 Each morning, hospital staff meet in an unfinished space 00:25:51.78\00:25:55.18 for devotional time. 00:25:55.22\00:25:56.58 This hospital is different 00:25:56.65\00:25:58.72 because first we start with prayers in the morning. 00:25:58.75\00:26:02.06 And personally if I miss that in the morning, 00:26:02.09\00:26:05.49 my day is usually not the same 00:26:05.53\00:26:08.23 compared to when I wake up early 00:26:08.26\00:26:11.10 and I come early to the morning devotion 00:26:11.13\00:26:13.74 every day. 00:26:13.77\00:26:15.10 So when I start with prayers, 00:26:15.14\00:26:16.47 it's like Holy Spirit is with us 00:26:16.50\00:26:18.51 when we see patients. 00:26:18.54\00:26:21.34 Angela had a tumor growing in her stomach 00:26:21.38\00:26:23.75 that caused her pain for two years. 00:26:23.78\00:26:26.15 All she could do was lie in bed. 00:26:26.18\00:26:28.72 She didn't know where to go for help 00:26:28.75\00:26:30.39 until someone told her about the Adventist hospital. 00:26:30.42\00:26:35.36 Before I came here, I was hopeless. 00:26:35.39\00:26:38.23 I thought I was going to die. 00:26:38.26\00:26:40.13 But when I came to this hospital, 00:26:40.20\00:26:42.10 I felt well again completely. 00:26:42.13\00:26:45.67 Hospital staff prayed for Angela. 00:26:45.70\00:26:48.14 And after intense surgery, 00:26:48.17\00:26:49.74 doctors successfully removed the tumor. 00:26:49.77\00:26:52.77 I felt hope after the doctors came in. 00:26:52.81\00:26:55.74 They didn't sleep day or night for me. 00:26:55.78\00:27:00.05 Although she still needs to take it easy, 00:27:00.08\00:27:02.08 Angela is now able to perform household tasks 00:27:02.12\00:27:05.35 that she wasn't able to do for the last two years. 00:27:05.39\00:27:08.46 She and many other patients excitedly tell others 00:27:08.49\00:27:11.16 about their experience in the hospital. 00:27:11.19\00:27:12.83 This hospital has been overloaded with God's power. 00:27:15.80\00:27:19.03 I can testify to this because of the services 00:27:22.04\00:27:25.04 I've received in my experience here. 00:27:25.07\00:27:27.08 I know their services are excellent 00:27:30.35\00:27:32.38 and I really appreciate what I received. 00:27:32.41\00:27:34.82 And I'm praying for this hospital now. 00:27:37.82\00:27:42.39 The hospital always follows up with its patients 00:27:42.42\00:27:44.83 through a compassion unit. 00:27:44.86\00:27:46.19 This dedicated team makes calls and visits former patients 00:27:52.00\00:27:56.10 to stay connected and pray for them. 00:27:56.14\00:27:57.91 I'm proud of this ministry because I see patients change. 00:28:01.01\00:28:06.11 Even last Sabbath, 00:28:06.15\00:28:07.48 I saw a former patient get baptized. 00:28:07.55\00:28:12.49 Their heart was transformed. 00:28:12.52\00:28:14.19 They believed in God. 00:28:14.22\00:28:15.56 And they're doing very well. 00:28:15.59\00:28:19.89 It's so interesting to see how people changed 00:28:19.93\00:28:22.63 from their discouragement 00:28:22.66\00:28:24.00 to a close relationship with God. 00:28:24.07\00:28:25.90 They're growing physically and spiritually here 00:28:29.27\00:28:32.44 enough that people are being baptized. 00:28:32.47\00:28:34.94 Your contributions 00:28:38.31\00:28:39.65 to the Thirteenth Sabbath Offering in 2013 00:28:39.68\00:28:42.45 have made an impact 00:28:42.48\00:28:43.82 in the lives of many people in Mwanza. 00:28:43.89\00:28:46.15 Patients and staff are grateful for this building 00:28:46.19\00:28:48.82 and how God has used it in powerful ways. 00:28:48.86\00:28:51.96 I thank everyone for what they've contributed. 00:28:51.99\00:28:56.03 And I want to assure them 00:28:56.06\00:28:57.77 that their money they offered is really being put in place. 00:28:57.80\00:29:02.47 Because we see people who did come back to us and they say, 00:29:02.50\00:29:07.11 "It is God in this place who have helped us. 00:29:07.14\00:29:10.58 When we come here, we get healed." 00:29:10.61\00:29:13.31 And that is not because we have good doctors. 00:29:13.35\00:29:15.65 It's because we have God working in this place. 00:29:15.68\00:29:19.42 Please pray for the work being done in Tanzania 00:29:19.45\00:29:22.12 and for this medical ministry. 00:29:22.16\00:29:24.06 Thank you for helping people like Angela 00:29:24.09\00:29:26.46 and for your continued support 00:29:26.49\00:29:27.86 of the Thirteenth Sabbath Offering. 00:29:27.86\00:29:29.43 That was interesting. 00:29:37.41\00:29:38.74 Tanzania. Mm-hmm. 00:29:38.77\00:29:40.41 I know, I've met somebody from there once he said, 00:29:40.48\00:29:42.24 "Tanzania." 00:29:42.28\00:29:43.65 Oh, the accents and the phonetics 00:29:43.68\00:29:45.21 are quite different. 00:29:45.25\00:29:46.58 But that's interesting. 00:29:46.61\00:29:47.95 Why do you call it a compassion unit? 00:29:47.98\00:29:49.95 That's a very interesting title. 00:29:49.98\00:29:51.85 Compassion unit because it's not just the medical science. 00:29:51.89\00:29:55.49 Okay. 00:29:55.52\00:29:56.86 It's caring for people and loving people. 00:29:56.93\00:29:58.26 That's right. 00:29:58.29\00:29:59.63 Compassion, which is compassion... 00:29:59.66\00:30:01.66 A good friend of mine said, "Compassion gets down, 00:30:01.70\00:30:04.57 pity looks down." 00:30:04.60\00:30:06.13 Ah, yes. Makes all the difference. 00:30:06.17\00:30:07.67 You're getting down there in the operating room 00:30:07.70\00:30:11.41 bringing hope to people like Angela. 00:30:11.44\00:30:12.94 Talked about she said, "I didn't see any hope. 00:30:12.97\00:30:15.61 I didn't see any future at all." 00:30:15.64\00:30:17.51 And the other thing is you have a regular program on 3ABN 00:30:17.55\00:30:22.75 called Mission 360. 00:30:22.78\00:30:25.25 And that's a part of our... 00:30:25.29\00:30:27.22 If you've been watching our network, 00:30:27.26\00:30:28.59 you may have seen that program. 00:30:28.62\00:30:29.96 It continues to bring the stories of missions 00:30:29.99\00:30:32.46 to our viewers and keeps them going on a continual basis. 00:30:32.49\00:30:35.86 Very interesting promo, 00:30:35.90\00:30:37.23 I want our audience to see that promo 00:30:37.30\00:30:40.77 to let them know when you see this promo, 00:30:40.80\00:30:43.14 you'll know who it's connected to. 00:30:43.17\00:30:46.17 Gary and Rick and also other people 00:30:46.21\00:30:48.14 that you're gonna meet in the second hour. 00:30:48.18\00:30:49.98 Just it's called the Mission 360 TV promo. 00:30:50.01\00:30:52.95 Very short, but check it out. 00:30:52.98\00:30:56.18 Mission 360 is designed to give you 00:30:56.22\00:30:59.35 a 360 degree view of mission around the world. 00:30:59.39\00:31:03.66 It takes you right to the people 00:31:03.73\00:31:05.39 and right to the places where mission is happening. 00:31:05.43\00:31:08.80 You'll meet global mission pioneers 00:31:08.83\00:31:10.73 planting new congregations of believers. 00:31:10.77\00:31:13.34 You'll meet missionaries. 00:31:13.40\00:31:14.74 You'll visit urban centers of influence. 00:31:14.77\00:31:16.97 You'll see how Christ's method is being followed 00:31:17.01\00:31:19.67 as people are mingling showing sympathy, 00:31:19.71\00:31:21.81 ministering to needs, winning confidence 00:31:21.84\00:31:24.11 and bidding people to follow Jesus. 00:31:24.15\00:31:26.68 Mission 360, keeping your eye on mission. 00:31:26.72\00:31:30.05 I love it. Mission 360. 00:31:35.36\00:31:37.59 That's the global perspective. 00:31:37.63\00:31:39.76 You're not going backward, you're continuing to go around. 00:31:39.79\00:31:42.60 How long have you been with Global Missions? 00:31:42.63\00:31:45.53 I mean, Adventist Missions. Yeah, yeah. 00:31:45.57\00:31:46.90 Well, you know, I started, 00:31:46.97\00:31:48.94 I was communications director for Global Mission 00:31:48.97\00:31:51.97 just over 20 years ago. 00:31:52.01\00:31:53.41 So it's been in different roles in my life 00:31:53.44\00:31:56.98 for the last 20-something years. 00:31:57.01\00:31:58.35 Okay. So you live out of a suitcase. 00:31:58.38\00:32:00.92 You have a suitcase on one of the seats in the plane. 00:32:00.95\00:32:02.85 Oh, yeah. 00:32:02.88\00:32:04.22 And so, you kind of probably sometimes mid flight, 00:32:04.29\00:32:06.02 you say, "Where are we headed?" 00:32:06.05\00:32:07.39 That's right. That's great. 00:32:07.46\00:32:08.79 And, Rick, you get a chance to do the same thing. 00:32:08.82\00:32:12.19 You jog the planet. 00:32:12.23\00:32:13.60 I do. We get to tell the stories. 00:32:13.63\00:32:15.03 And so you've got to... 00:32:15.06\00:32:16.63 If you wanna show people, you need to be there 00:32:16.67\00:32:18.47 to take the pictures and shoot the video. 00:32:18.50\00:32:20.14 That's right. 00:32:20.20\00:32:21.54 And I have some really good people behind me 00:32:21.57\00:32:22.97 that do a lot of excellent work that you see there. 00:32:23.00\00:32:26.47 In one of the videos we just saw, 00:32:26.51\00:32:28.01 if you're listening, 00:32:28.04\00:32:29.38 we talked about Thirteenth Sabbath Offering. 00:32:29.41\00:32:31.81 For our audience, explain Thirteenth Sabbath. 00:32:31.85\00:32:35.28 Because they might think, 00:32:35.32\00:32:36.65 "Well, that, I've never heard that before." 00:32:36.69\00:32:38.05 And why thirteenth? 00:32:38.09\00:32:39.42 So if you divide the year up into weeks, 00:32:39.45\00:32:42.16 and you split it into four, it's four quarters in a year. 00:32:42.19\00:32:46.46 And when you count the number of weeks, 00:32:46.49\00:32:47.86 it comes out to 13. 00:32:47.93\00:32:49.23 So years ago somebody said, 00:32:49.26\00:32:51.43 "Let's do a special project every quarter." 00:32:51.47\00:32:55.40 And they decided to call it 00:32:55.44\00:32:56.77 the Thirteenth Sabbath Offering. 00:32:56.84\00:32:58.37 Okay. 00:32:58.41\00:32:59.74 And so every 13 weeks, 00:32:59.77\00:33:02.31 Adventist Church members around the world 00:33:02.34\00:33:04.75 find out what that project is, 00:33:04.78\00:33:06.35 and they give money to support that project. 00:33:06.38\00:33:08.35 And one of them was that hospital. 00:33:08.38\00:33:10.39 And that keeps the missions going. 00:33:10.42\00:33:12.59 Now the reason I asked for that because there are two things. 00:33:12.62\00:33:15.26 In the general public, 00:33:15.29\00:33:16.62 people say that number 13 is a bad number. 00:33:16.66\00:33:18.89 But not on the Adventist Church. 00:33:18.93\00:33:20.83 It's a good number 00:33:20.90\00:33:22.43 because every four times a year, 00:33:22.46\00:33:24.37 special offerings go to different projects 00:33:24.40\00:33:26.20 around the world. 00:33:26.23\00:33:27.60 And one of those is Adventist Missions. 00:33:27.64\00:33:30.87 Now when you travel, Gary, sometimes while you're filming, 00:33:30.91\00:33:36.04 the unexpected take place. 00:33:36.08\00:33:38.35 Let's talk about that before we show this next roll. 00:33:38.38\00:33:40.38 Okay, sure. 00:33:40.42\00:33:41.75 Well, you know, the Mission 360 TV program 00:33:41.78\00:33:44.05 that you show on 3ABN, we do it on a budget. 00:33:44.09\00:33:46.49 So basically we have a producer, 00:33:46.52\00:33:49.16 cameraman, soundman, who travels with me. 00:33:49.19\00:33:52.43 One person. One person and me. 00:33:52.46\00:33:54.93 And what happens, he looks at my schedule 00:33:54.96\00:33:56.63 and where I have meetings. 00:33:56.70\00:33:58.20 And he will always stay an extra day 00:33:58.23\00:34:01.00 when I'm traveling already 00:34:01.04\00:34:02.37 and he will come and we'll film at that place. 00:34:02.40\00:34:04.81 So that keeps the budget down. 00:34:04.84\00:34:06.98 So yeah, interesting things happened. 00:34:07.01\00:34:09.21 And so several weeks ago, we were in Costa Rica. 00:34:09.24\00:34:12.65 And I was filming and something happened 00:34:12.68\00:34:14.72 that's never happened before. 00:34:14.75\00:34:16.89 And it was captured on video. 00:34:16.92\00:34:18.35 Okay. 00:34:18.39\00:34:19.72 This is interesting because if you... 00:34:19.75\00:34:21.32 I feel badly if you're driving but maybe later on, 00:34:21.36\00:34:24.06 you can see the program as it repeats 00:34:24.13\00:34:25.46 when you get home on 3ABN. 00:34:25.49\00:34:27.23 But this is a very interesting outtake. 00:34:27.30\00:34:30.13 It's literally called "Outtake/Police Chase" 00:34:30.17\00:34:34.44 while Gary Krause was in Costa Rica, filming. 00:34:34.47\00:34:37.61 Sit back and enjoy. 00:34:37.64\00:34:40.18 It's a form of fortress 00:34:40.24\00:34:42.14 and then in 1948 during the civil war, 00:34:42.18\00:34:45.31 it served as a military barracks. 00:34:45.35\00:34:48.32 Now when you look at... 00:34:48.35\00:34:49.68 Now I don't know if you've caught it, 00:34:58.53\00:34:59.86 we kind of edited that particular portion out 00:34:59.89\00:35:03.97 just because people have different opinions 00:35:04.00\00:35:05.47 about what took place. 00:35:05.50\00:35:06.84 But explain what happened here? 00:35:06.87\00:35:08.20 I was very clear what happened. 00:35:08.24\00:35:09.84 The police were chasing a suspect. 00:35:09.87\00:35:11.51 Yeah, chasing a suspect 00:35:11.54\00:35:13.07 and successfully grabbed him at the end, 00:35:13.11\00:35:16.85 brought him down, handcuffed him 00:35:16.88\00:35:18.85 and it was recorded by Yardley Simon, 00:35:18.88\00:35:22.12 who was filming at the time. 00:35:22.15\00:35:23.79 And just for fun, I posted it on Twitter. 00:35:23.82\00:35:26.25 Okay. 00:35:26.29\00:35:27.66 Well, I just checked this evening. 00:35:27.69\00:35:29.09 It's up to 12,000 Views and 800 Likes, 00:35:29.12\00:35:33.16 and almost 200 Retweets, 00:35:33.19\00:35:36.26 including from the Costa Rican police, 00:35:36.30\00:35:39.10 who said it was a pleasure to serve. 00:35:39.13\00:35:40.70 I got contacted by a reporter in Costa Rica 00:35:40.74\00:35:43.77 wanting to ask about what was happening, 00:35:43.81\00:35:45.44 why were we there. 00:35:45.47\00:35:46.98 I found at least four or five news articles about this event. 00:35:47.04\00:35:51.15 Because it captured people's imagination 00:35:51.18\00:35:52.81 because suddenly captured on film, 00:35:52.85\00:35:54.92 here was the Costa Rican police doing their job. 00:35:54.95\00:35:57.25 Right. 00:35:57.29\00:35:58.62 But you don't expect that 00:35:58.65\00:36:00.06 when you're filming Mission 360, right? 00:36:00.09\00:36:01.42 That's one of those extra bonus... 00:36:01.46\00:36:02.92 That's right. 00:36:02.96\00:36:04.29 They call that bonus footage... 00:36:04.36\00:36:07.03 Bonus footage. 00:36:07.13\00:36:08.43 Which they probably will use unfortunately 00:36:08.46\00:36:10.10 in prosecuting this guy. 00:36:10.17\00:36:11.57 And they say, "We caught you running 00:36:11.60\00:36:13.07 and we got it captured on video." 00:36:13.10\00:36:14.70 That's the unusual part about it. 00:36:14.74\00:36:16.17 But you have some surprises when you travel. 00:36:16.20\00:36:18.47 Do you ever travel together? 00:36:18.51\00:36:20.38 We do, sometimes. 00:36:20.41\00:36:21.74 Sometimes, yeah. Yeah. 00:36:21.78\00:36:23.11 And about how many countries if you can think about it 00:36:23.14\00:36:25.11 have you had the pleasure of landing on 00:36:25.15\00:36:28.75 and getting involved in missions? 00:36:28.78\00:36:31.12 I don't know. 00:36:31.15\00:36:32.49 But I know it's more than a 100. 00:36:32.52\00:36:33.86 Wow. Yeah. 00:36:33.89\00:36:35.22 That's good. 00:36:35.26\00:36:36.59 So your passport probably has wheels on it when you go. 00:36:36.62\00:36:37.99 I have two passports 00:36:38.03\00:36:39.39 and they run out pretty quickly. 00:36:39.43\00:36:40.90 Yeah. That's good. 00:36:40.93\00:36:42.23 But you know, every passport, every time you get a stamp, 00:36:42.26\00:36:46.70 there's a person, there's a life, 00:36:46.74\00:36:48.74 there's a project, there's a change, 00:36:48.77\00:36:50.37 there's a conversion, 00:36:50.41\00:36:52.21 there's a new light lit into that community. 00:36:52.24\00:36:54.84 Yeah. 00:36:54.88\00:36:56.21 So it's not just the beauty of traveling around the world. 00:36:56.24\00:36:58.18 It's a beauty of "I'm here." 00:36:58.21\00:37:00.05 Your boots on the ground for Christ. 00:37:00.08\00:37:02.62 That makes a huge difference. 00:37:02.65\00:37:04.12 Now, we have been to Mozambique. 00:37:04.15\00:37:07.09 We've been to Tanzania. 00:37:07.12\00:37:08.59 We've been to Costa Rica. 00:37:08.62\00:37:11.39 Let's talk about Brazil, the Neighborhood Noticed. 00:37:11.43\00:37:15.03 I love that title. 00:37:15.06\00:37:16.40 Let's talk about Brazil before we see this roll. 00:37:16.43\00:37:18.33 So this is a story from Brazil and, you know, there are... 00:37:18.37\00:37:22.17 It's a very Christian country 00:37:22.20\00:37:23.71 but there are certain neighborhoods 00:37:23.74\00:37:25.31 where at least the Adventist Church is not present, 00:37:25.34\00:37:27.81 and this is a story of somebody who lived in that neighborhood 00:37:27.84\00:37:31.08 and then the Adventist that he encountered 00:37:31.11\00:37:32.71 and what that connection did to his life. 00:37:32.75\00:37:35.95 Okay. 00:37:35.98\00:37:37.32 The Neighborhood Noticed and sit back as you notice 00:37:37.39\00:37:39.69 what the neighborhood noticed. 00:37:39.72\00:37:41.06 Salvador is known throughout Brazil 00:37:52.83\00:37:54.67 for having a vibrant, unique culture. 00:37:54.70\00:37:57.47 It boasts the fourth largest population of Brazil 00:37:57.51\00:38:00.11 with almost three million people. 00:38:00.14\00:38:02.51 The Adventist Church has experienced 00:38:02.54\00:38:04.28 significant growth here 00:38:04.31\00:38:05.85 with churches scattered throughout Salvador. 00:38:05.88\00:38:08.98 Despite the strong Adventist presence, 00:38:09.02\00:38:11.15 there are still un-entered areas of the city. 00:38:11.19\00:38:14.12 Global Mission is working to identify areas 00:38:14.19\00:38:16.86 with no Adventist presence 00:38:16.89\00:38:18.79 and established new congregations there. 00:38:18.83\00:38:22.96 Josenildo's neighborhood 00:38:23.00\00:38:24.33 is one of these un-entered areas. 00:38:24.37\00:38:26.87 He was known as a drunk nuisance, 00:38:26.94\00:38:29.37 whose bad habits disrupted his family life 00:38:29.40\00:38:31.84 and the whole community. 00:38:31.87\00:38:33.21 Arivaldo, an Adventist lived nearby 00:38:40.72\00:38:43.59 and ran into Josenildo often on his way to work. 00:38:43.62\00:38:47.16 Arivaldo knew he was looking for work. 00:38:47.19\00:38:49.46 And so he offered him a construction job, 00:38:49.49\00:38:51.79 building churches. 00:38:51.83\00:38:53.60 It didn't take long for the two of them 00:38:53.63\00:38:55.10 to become friends. 00:38:55.13\00:38:56.56 Arivaldo treated him with respect 00:38:56.63\00:38:58.70 which made Josenildo wonder why he was always so kind. 00:38:58.73\00:39:03.27 Over time, Arivaldo asked 00:39:03.30\00:39:05.37 if he was interested in Bible studies. 00:39:05.41\00:39:07.51 And the two began reading the Bible together. 00:39:07.54\00:39:09.74 Before I met Jesus, I didn't have happiness. 00:39:15.28\00:39:19.45 When I came to know Jesus, my life wasn't sound. 00:39:19.49\00:39:23.66 And today, for God's glory, I'm happy. 00:39:23.69\00:39:27.60 My family also wasn't sound. 00:39:27.66\00:39:31.27 Josenildo was baptized and changed for the better. 00:39:31.30\00:39:34.77 Even his neighbors took notice of his transformation. 00:39:34.80\00:39:37.54 When the usual loud music from his home stopped one day, 00:39:37.61\00:39:40.98 everyone wondered if he was okay. 00:39:41.01\00:39:43.98 When they checked on him, 00:39:44.05\00:39:45.38 they saw that Josenildo was a changed man. 00:39:45.41\00:39:47.72 He spoke kindly to them and treated them respectfully. 00:39:47.75\00:39:51.05 And they wanted to know 00:39:51.09\00:39:52.42 what inspired these changes in his life. 00:39:52.45\00:39:55.22 Josenildo used this opportunity to minister to his neighbors. 00:39:55.26\00:39:58.53 Every Friday night, they gather in his living room 00:40:06.33\00:40:09.07 to talk about their week. 00:40:09.10\00:40:10.77 They bring their concerns, requests, and praises here. 00:40:10.81\00:40:14.98 Josenildo points them to the Bible 00:40:15.01\00:40:17.11 showing them a creator who cares deeply about them. 00:40:17.15\00:40:21.32 There's even something for the children 00:40:21.35\00:40:23.28 as Josenildo's daughter leads an activity 00:40:23.35\00:40:25.42 in the hallway. 00:40:25.45\00:40:26.82 This group has grown close. 00:40:33.06\00:40:35.00 And as a result, 00:40:35.03\00:40:36.36 10 people have already been baptized this past year 00:40:36.40\00:40:39.17 and more are studying for baptism. 00:40:39.20\00:40:42.00 Small groups like this one 00:40:42.04\00:40:43.64 are the core of church planting in Salvador. 00:40:43.67\00:40:46.31 Small groups develop into congregations. 00:40:46.34\00:40:48.91 And these congregations divide into more small groups 00:40:48.94\00:40:52.38 that spread throughout the city. 00:40:52.41\00:40:56.02 Nearly five years ago, 00:40:56.05\00:40:57.42 the church leadership in Salvador state 00:40:57.45\00:40:59.09 had an ambitious goal of building 1,000 churches 00:40:59.12\00:41:02.16 in five years. 00:41:02.19\00:41:03.63 They reached their goal. 00:41:03.66\00:41:05.26 And the final church is being built 00:41:05.29\00:41:07.03 where new congregation will worship soon. 00:41:07.10\00:41:09.70 The goal of building 1,000 churches across the state 00:41:09.73\00:41:12.90 isn't just for the purpose of having new buildings. 00:41:12.93\00:41:15.70 The church buildings represent 00:41:15.74\00:41:17.47 ever growing congregations of believers 00:41:17.51\00:41:20.24 who like Josenildo have been changed by Jesus. 00:41:20.28\00:41:25.41 Jesus is good. 00:41:25.45\00:41:26.98 Jesus transforms. 00:41:27.02\00:41:29.05 Just as he transformed my life, 00:41:29.08\00:41:32.02 he can transform anyone's life. 00:41:32.05\00:41:35.49 No matter the struggle someone may face, 00:41:35.52\00:41:37.93 Jesus has the power to transform their life. 00:41:37.96\00:41:41.33 And more lives are impacted 00:41:41.36\00:41:42.96 as churches are planted throughout the world. 00:41:43.00\00:41:46.43 Thank you for helping us change lives 00:41:46.47\00:41:49.14 by supporting church planting through Global Mission. 00:41:49.17\00:41:51.87 You know wherever the gospel is exercised, 00:42:00.62\00:42:04.22 wherever the gospel is practiced, 00:42:04.29\00:42:06.35 we cannot help but notice a change. 00:42:06.39\00:42:08.52 This is a very interesting story about a gentleman who... 00:42:08.56\00:42:10.93 I like the part of the video where they said when his music 00:42:10.96\00:42:13.80 was no longer heard. 00:42:13.83\00:42:15.43 They thought, "Is he okay?" 00:42:15.46\00:42:16.83 Yeah. 00:42:16.87\00:42:18.20 This is very transforming story. 00:42:18.23\00:42:19.77 And as our viewers and listeners are noticing, 00:42:19.80\00:42:21.97 this is what the annual sacrifice offering 00:42:22.00\00:42:25.57 also helps to benefit. 00:42:25.61\00:42:27.08 Talk about that briefly, 00:42:27.14\00:42:28.48 just if somebody just joined the program? 00:42:28.51\00:42:29.84 Yes, sure. 00:42:29.88\00:42:31.21 So the annual sacrifice offering 00:42:31.25\00:42:32.58 is a offering taken at once a year 00:42:32.61\00:42:33.95 to help Global Mission do its work 00:42:33.98\00:42:35.32 which is to plant new churches among new people groups 00:42:35.35\00:42:39.52 and in new geographical areas. 00:42:39.55\00:42:42.06 And that's done not by just coming in 00:42:42.09\00:42:43.89 and preaching at people, it's by living among people. 00:42:43.93\00:42:47.76 I mean, Global Mission pioneers are our frontline workers. 00:42:47.76\00:42:51.03 And they actually go and they live among the people. 00:42:51.07\00:42:53.77 They get a basic living stipend, 00:42:53.80\00:42:56.20 but they live among the people, 00:42:56.24\00:42:57.57 they work with the people, they play with the people, 00:42:57.61\00:43:00.08 they rub shoulders with the people 00:43:00.11\00:43:01.44 and they put Christ method into practice. 00:43:01.48\00:43:03.65 And they are planting churches in areas 00:43:03.68\00:43:05.75 where we've never planted churches before. 00:43:05.78\00:43:08.82 And nobody told them they couldn't do it, 00:43:08.85\00:43:11.12 so under the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:43:11.15\00:43:13.39 And the annual sacrifice offering 00:43:13.46\00:43:16.19 helps provide money for those stipends. 00:43:16.22\00:43:19.03 It helps provide money for resources 00:43:19.06\00:43:22.03 and materials for pioneers to use. 00:43:22.06\00:43:24.60 It also helps start centers of influence in urban areas 00:43:24.63\00:43:27.84 to help put Christ method into practice. 00:43:27.87\00:43:30.27 Wow. 00:43:30.31\00:43:31.64 And we're seeing the difference. 00:43:31.67\00:43:33.01 I'm looking at the video. 00:43:33.04\00:43:34.38 This is one of those programs I really enjoy 00:43:34.41\00:43:35.74 because a lot of times, 00:43:35.78\00:43:37.11 you know, we hear the testimonies. 00:43:37.15\00:43:38.48 We say, "Oh, it's so exciting to be there." 00:43:38.51\00:43:41.12 But then, I'm thinking, "Wow, I love to see it." 00:43:41.15\00:43:43.65 But this program has put into practice 00:43:43.69\00:43:45.12 and I like that, Rick. 00:43:45.15\00:43:46.49 And sometimes, people say, "Why plant churches? 00:43:46.52\00:43:48.76 What is this new church planting thing 00:43:48.79\00:43:50.33 we're talking about?" 00:43:50.39\00:43:51.73 Right. And it's not new. 00:43:51.76\00:43:53.13 The Apostle Paul was a church planter. 00:43:53.16\00:43:55.93 Because he was going places over there 00:43:55.96\00:43:57.60 where are no churches, so what do you do? 00:43:57.63\00:43:59.73 Just say, "Sorry, there's no church, you know." 00:43:59.77\00:44:02.40 That's the gospel. 00:44:02.44\00:44:04.24 Paul planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 00:44:04.31\00:44:09.24 Now this next one is pretty interesting. 00:44:09.28\00:44:11.78 I'm thinking when I hear the title 00:44:11.81\00:44:13.62 "The 10-Kilometer Church Plant." 00:44:13.65\00:44:16.15 We're going to Ecuador in just a moment. 00:44:16.18\00:44:17.72 What is the "10-Kilometer Church Plant?" 00:44:17.75\00:44:19.82 Well, it's not a really big church plant. 00:44:19.85\00:44:21.69 Okay. 00:44:21.72\00:44:23.06 They used a 10-kilometer race 00:44:23.09\00:44:24.99 to help connect with their community. 00:44:25.03\00:44:27.86 Okay. 00:44:27.86\00:44:29.20 Let's look at this. 00:44:29.23\00:44:30.57 This is the gospel in motion if I could say that. 00:44:30.63\00:44:32.63 The gospel in sneakers. 00:44:32.67\00:44:34.54 Okay. Okay. 00:44:34.57\00:44:35.90 The 10-Kilometer Church Plant. 00:44:35.94\00:44:37.37 Check it out. 00:44:37.41\00:44:40.34 In Quito, Ecuador's capital city, 00:44:40.38\00:44:42.48 a 10-kilometer race 00:44:42.51\00:44:43.85 was just what a group of young Adventists needed 00:44:43.91\00:44:46.51 to help them plant a church. 00:44:46.55\00:44:49.92 The idea came from a small group of youth. 00:44:49.95\00:44:52.69 We used to gather together here in my living room. 00:44:52.72\00:44:55.52 And we used to say, 00:44:55.56\00:44:57.13 beside just being together 00:44:57.19\00:44:58.83 and learning from each others' experiences, 00:44:58.86\00:45:01.76 we need to do something else. 00:45:01.80\00:45:05.40 They decided they were going to plant a church 00:45:05.43\00:45:07.54 in an un-entered part of the city. 00:45:07.57\00:45:10.11 It's a small valley, 00:45:10.14\00:45:11.67 but we have a couple of churches. 00:45:11.71\00:45:14.34 And this neighborhood was isolated. 00:45:14.38\00:45:18.08 So we decided that this neighborhood 00:45:18.11\00:45:20.72 that it's alone. 00:45:20.75\00:45:22.95 They need their own church. 00:45:22.98\00:45:24.85 We knocked on doors and asked, 00:45:24.89\00:45:26.65 "Do you want to study the Bible?" 00:45:26.69\00:45:28.16 It was a bad idea. 00:45:28.19\00:45:29.76 The people responded, "No, we don't even know you. 00:45:29.79\00:45:32.76 Who are you? What do you want?" 00:45:32.79\00:45:34.83 So we got together again 00:45:34.86\00:45:36.40 and we planned how we could reach the people. 00:45:36.43\00:45:38.97 And we started asking the community 00:45:39.00\00:45:40.54 about their needs. 00:45:40.60\00:45:41.94 And we found lot of problems. 00:45:41.97\00:45:46.01 One of the most important necessities was health. 00:45:46.04\00:45:50.21 So we plan to have a free consultations, 00:45:50.25\00:45:52.55 lab test and a health fair. 00:45:52.58\00:45:54.55 After much planning, 00:45:57.79\00:45:59.12 the group calculated the cost of a health fair 00:45:59.15\00:46:01.19 and found it would be about $3,000. 00:46:01.22\00:46:04.53 But the group of young people and students 00:46:04.56\00:46:06.36 couldn't afford to contribute that much. 00:46:06.39\00:46:08.93 Every Wednesday, 00:46:08.96\00:46:10.30 they went jogging together as a group activity. 00:46:10.37\00:46:12.70 As they prepared for the weekly jog, 00:46:12.73\00:46:14.54 someone came up with the idea 00:46:14.57\00:46:15.97 to use their activity as a way to raise funds. 00:46:16.00\00:46:19.84 They began organizing a 10-kilometer race 00:46:19.87\00:46:22.51 where people can register and pay a small fee to enter. 00:46:22.54\00:46:26.01 Any earnings from the race 00:46:26.05\00:46:27.42 could go towards the cost of the health fair. 00:46:27.45\00:46:30.02 We started like just young people making plans. 00:46:30.09\00:46:33.76 And we started like, you're going to do this, 00:46:33.79\00:46:36.42 you're going to do this. 00:46:36.46\00:46:37.79 And I felt like I was doing something big for Jesus. 00:46:37.83\00:46:43.10 I took that as a big responsibility. 00:46:43.13\00:46:46.27 I thought that is a big job, 00:46:46.30\00:46:48.70 it's a great opportunity to do something useful for the Lord. 00:46:48.74\00:46:52.87 We have never done any race like this before. 00:46:52.91\00:46:55.38 We didn't even know where to start. 00:46:55.41\00:46:57.91 But we decided to do it and set a date. 00:46:57.95\00:47:00.55 In one month, I don't know how God helped us through this. 00:47:00.58\00:47:04.39 Because the permits to close the streets, 00:47:04.42\00:47:06.79 many times you need a year to get permission, 00:47:06.82\00:47:09.82 but we did it. 00:47:09.86\00:47:11.19 As a result of the race, 00:47:18.60\00:47:20.17 they raised the money to conduct a health fair 00:47:20.24\00:47:22.54 and start their church plants. 00:47:22.57\00:47:24.41 And they also kept contact 00:47:24.44\00:47:25.77 with many of the race participants. 00:47:25.81\00:47:27.81 Each participant received a book 00:47:27.84\00:47:29.34 included in the registration called "The Power of Hope." 00:47:29.38\00:47:33.01 These events opened doors to the community. 00:47:33.05\00:47:35.75 And they studied the Bible with anyone 00:47:35.78\00:47:37.72 who showed interest. 00:47:37.75\00:47:39.09 They found a building to rent for church 00:47:39.12\00:47:40.96 and were finally ready to open their own doors. 00:47:40.99\00:47:44.39 And we opened the first Sabbath and it was only us. 00:47:44.43\00:47:47.66 But we continued with the Bible studies 00:47:47.66\00:47:49.90 and we began seeing people come little by little. 00:47:49.93\00:47:53.30 Noemi and Miguel own a bakery next to the church. 00:47:53.34\00:47:56.57 Sometimes during the week, people from the church 00:47:56.60\00:47:58.54 went to buy things from their store. 00:47:58.57\00:48:00.51 And one day, Noemi asked them about the church. 00:48:00.54\00:48:03.81 She was invited to study the Bible with them 00:48:03.88\00:48:05.71 the next Sabbath. 00:48:05.75\00:48:07.25 As her faith grew, 00:48:07.28\00:48:08.72 she prayed that Miguel would go to church with her. 00:48:08.75\00:48:11.52 But he showed no interest. 00:48:11.55\00:48:13.22 After a few months, as a birthday gift, 00:48:13.25\00:48:15.89 he agreed to join her for one Sabbath only. 00:48:15.92\00:48:20.06 My first impression was that I didn't know anybody. 00:48:20.13\00:48:23.03 But everybody knew me. 00:48:23.06\00:48:24.97 They called me by name and said, "Miguel, welcome." 00:48:25.00\00:48:29.00 I felt an immense love. 00:48:29.04\00:48:31.47 Miguel wanted to learn more. 00:48:31.51\00:48:33.58 So he and Noemi asked for Bible studies at home. 00:48:33.61\00:48:36.64 Eventually they gave their hearts to Jesus 00:48:36.68\00:48:39.41 and were baptized. 00:48:39.45\00:48:40.82 Their bakery is now closed on Saturdays. 00:48:40.85\00:48:43.18 But business has doubled on Sundays. 00:48:43.22\00:48:45.62 It's a radical change. 00:48:45.65\00:48:47.26 When we were not baptized, and we didn't know the church, 00:48:47.29\00:48:50.63 we had a lot of problems. 00:48:50.66\00:48:52.36 Now it's different. 00:48:52.39\00:48:53.73 We study together, go to church together, 00:48:53.80\00:48:56.36 sing, and pray to God. 00:48:56.40\00:48:59.27 Miguel and Noemi's family is just one example of those 00:48:59.30\00:49:03.00 who have come to know the love of Jesus. 00:49:03.04\00:49:05.41 And they're excited to share what they've learnt. 00:49:05.44\00:49:07.81 In my house, we have a small group 00:49:07.84\00:49:09.88 that meets once a week. 00:49:09.91\00:49:11.25 Our goal as a family is to share God's Word 00:49:11.28\00:49:13.75 with other families 00:49:13.78\00:49:15.12 so they can know God as we know Him. 00:49:15.15\00:49:18.65 About 10 people have been baptized as a result. 00:49:18.69\00:49:21.49 And now Global Mission 00:49:21.52\00:49:22.86 is helping this new church plant 00:49:22.89\00:49:24.63 in this major city. 00:49:24.66\00:49:27.96 Church members pray that their efforts 00:49:28.00\00:49:29.86 through total member involvement 00:49:29.90\00:49:31.87 will continue to spread God's love 00:49:31.90\00:49:34.50 throughout the community. 00:49:34.54\00:49:36.91 The dream is that this church can grow 00:49:36.94\00:49:39.34 and we can all see each other in heaven. 00:49:39.37\00:49:42.01 I feel satisfied with my work in here. 00:49:42.04\00:49:45.28 I feel very grateful with God 00:49:45.31\00:49:48.28 because I see how I can make a difference in this place 00:49:48.32\00:49:52.65 that I can serve Him. 00:49:52.69\00:49:54.96 It feels good to serve Jesus. 00:49:54.99\00:49:58.46 Please pray for mission to the cities 00:49:58.49\00:50:00.60 which focuses on reaching people 00:50:00.63\00:50:02.36 in the largest cities in the world. 00:50:02.40\00:50:04.83 Thank you for your support 00:50:04.87\00:50:06.20 of Global Mission church planting projects 00:50:06.23\00:50:08.24 in urban areas like Quito. 00:50:08.27\00:50:10.37 That's very interesting. 00:50:17.95\00:50:19.55 Quito, Ecuador. 00:50:19.58\00:50:21.72 Putting the gospel into action. 00:50:21.75\00:50:24.05 Running for the gospel. 00:50:24.09\00:50:25.65 You know, it reminds me of that text 00:50:25.69\00:50:27.22 in the Book of Haggai 00:50:27.26\00:50:31.26 that he who reads will run. 00:50:31.29\00:50:34.20 And that's beautiful. 00:50:34.23\00:50:35.56 That's an amazing project there in Quito, Ecuador. 00:50:35.60\00:50:38.77 Now the church, I can see it's growing now. 00:50:38.80\00:50:41.50 Yeah, it is. 00:50:41.54\00:50:42.87 And it was just because these young people had a vision 00:50:42.90\00:50:45.37 that it's not good enough for us to sit around 00:50:45.41\00:50:47.51 as a group of Adventists talking to ourselves. 00:50:47.54\00:50:49.14 That's right. 00:50:49.18\00:50:50.51 We need to do something for our community 00:50:50.58\00:50:51.91 and that's what happened. 00:50:51.95\00:50:53.28 That's right. That's amazing. 00:50:53.31\00:50:54.65 You have one... 00:50:54.68\00:50:56.02 Now we're gonna go to Sri Lanka here in just a moment, 00:50:56.05\00:50:58.22 how water opened the door. 00:50:58.25\00:51:01.72 Yeah. Will you lead up into that? 00:51:01.76\00:51:03.93 Yeah, so this is... 00:51:03.96\00:51:05.56 We've talked about the annual sacrifice offering 00:51:05.59\00:51:07.60 and this is actually Gary talking about what this does, 00:51:07.60\00:51:10.83 and one of the things it does 00:51:10.87\00:51:12.20 is helps send our Global Mission pioneers. 00:51:12.23\00:51:14.87 And we have a Global Mission pioneer in Sri Lanka 00:51:14.90\00:51:17.07 who is using the water to reach out to people. 00:51:17.11\00:51:19.51 Okay. 00:51:19.54\00:51:20.88 Let's go to Sri Lanka now and find out 00:51:20.94\00:51:23.08 how water is opening the door for the gospel. 00:51:23.11\00:51:26.11 Global mission pioneers 00:51:30.45\00:51:31.95 are the unsung heroes of Adventist Mission. 00:51:31.99\00:51:35.46 Around the world today hundreds of Global Mission pioneers, 00:51:35.49\00:51:38.79 lay people, go to new areas and new people groups 00:51:38.83\00:51:42.56 to start a new Seventh-day Adventist congregation. 00:51:42.60\00:51:46.03 Many of the places where they begin work 00:51:46.07\00:51:48.17 are areas where the church 00:51:48.20\00:51:49.77 has never had any success in the past. 00:51:49.80\00:51:52.37 But nobody has told the pioneers 00:51:52.41\00:51:54.11 that they can't do it. 00:51:54.14\00:51:55.54 And on a small living stipend, 00:51:55.58\00:51:57.78 these pioneers go and live among the people, 00:51:57.81\00:52:00.82 and they put Christ method of ministry into practice. 00:52:00.85\00:52:03.82 They mingle with the people in various ways. 00:52:03.89\00:52:06.52 In the rice fields, playing soccer with the kids, 00:52:06.55\00:52:09.29 in the cities. 00:52:09.32\00:52:10.66 They show sympathy. 00:52:10.73\00:52:12.06 They minister to needs in very practical ways 00:52:12.09\00:52:14.30 and then they win the confidence of the people 00:52:14.30\00:52:16.50 and bid them to follow Jesus. 00:52:16.53\00:52:18.47 I've seen pioneers using many, many different methods 00:52:18.50\00:52:22.04 to meet the needs of the people 00:52:22.07\00:52:23.67 where they have embedded themselves 00:52:23.71\00:52:25.67 like Jesus did incarnationly in the community. 00:52:25.71\00:52:29.48 Historically, the annual sacrifice offering 00:52:29.51\00:52:31.48 has come at the end of the week of prayer. 00:52:31.51\00:52:33.72 And it's an opportunity for us to sacrifice for mission. 00:52:33.78\00:52:37.05 So I encourage you to please give generously 00:52:37.09\00:52:39.42 to this important offering. 00:52:39.45\00:52:41.66 Let's go visit a Global Mission pioneer now. 00:52:41.69\00:52:43.99 In Sri Lanka, most young adults in their twenties 00:52:54.80\00:52:57.61 continue pursuing their professional careers. 00:52:57.64\00:53:02.94 But Rupan has taken a different journey. 00:53:02.98\00:53:05.15 At age 23, Rupan realized God's unique purpose for his life 00:53:05.18\00:53:09.58 and decided to use his training in natural remedies 00:53:09.62\00:53:12.62 to serve as a Global Mission pioneer. 00:53:12.65\00:53:16.66 My heart is telling me to do God's work. 00:53:16.73\00:53:19.43 I believe it was the Holy Spirit 00:53:19.46\00:53:21.50 who convinced me to do His work. 00:53:21.53\00:53:24.03 And that's why I chose 00:53:24.07\00:53:25.47 to become a Global Mission pioneer. 00:53:25.50\00:53:29.44 He was sent to a town called Omanthai, 00:53:29.47\00:53:31.84 a primarily Buddhist community, 00:53:31.87\00:53:33.64 274 kilometers away from the country's capital, 00:53:33.68\00:53:37.65 Colombo. 00:53:37.68\00:53:39.01 With the population of over 22 million, 00:53:39.05\00:53:41.78 this South Asian country in the Indian Ocean 00:53:41.82\00:53:44.19 is a land of rich diversity and culture. 00:53:44.25\00:53:47.76 Home to various ethnic groups, religions and customs, 00:53:47.79\00:53:51.16 Sri Lanka has great opportunities for mission. 00:53:51.19\00:53:53.96 Rupan tried to find ways to reach out to the community. 00:53:57.77\00:54:02.90 As soon as he arrived, 00:54:02.94\00:54:04.34 he started going around the city 00:54:04.37\00:54:06.47 visiting one home after another 00:54:06.51\00:54:08.74 and building relationships. 00:54:08.78\00:54:12.78 After days of home visitations 00:54:12.81\00:54:14.82 and understanding the community's way of life, 00:54:14.85\00:54:17.59 Rupan realized that there was an enormous need 00:54:17.62\00:54:20.09 for lifestyle development and medical assistance. 00:54:20.16\00:54:25.46 He started going around the city again. 00:54:25.49\00:54:27.50 This time introducing the Adventist health message 00:54:27.50\00:54:30.93 which stirred the interest 00:54:30.97\00:54:32.30 and curiosity of the people he visited. 00:54:32.33\00:54:35.67 One day, Rupan came across a family 00:54:35.70\00:54:37.84 who owns a local hotel business. 00:54:37.87\00:54:41.44 The head of the family suffered from diabetes 00:54:41.48\00:54:43.75 and his condition was worsening. 00:54:43.81\00:54:45.71 Rupan's first visit with them wasn't easy. 00:54:48.78\00:54:52.19 They found the health message hard to believe. 00:54:52.22\00:54:55.09 But after giving it much thought, 00:54:55.12\00:54:57.29 the hotel owner agreed to try it out. 00:54:57.33\00:54:59.53 Rupan started the first session with the word of prayer 00:55:03.80\00:55:07.04 which was quite unusual for the hotel owner. 00:55:07.07\00:55:09.90 He then prepared all the things he needed 00:55:09.94\00:55:12.04 and then went on with the procedure. 00:55:12.07\00:55:13.81 After months of consistent visits 00:55:17.05\00:55:18.91 and water therapy sessions, 00:55:18.95\00:55:20.82 the hotel owner's wounds started healing. 00:55:20.85\00:55:24.19 Amazed by these improvements, 00:55:24.22\00:55:26.02 the hotel owner became more excited 00:55:26.05\00:55:28.09 to learn about the health message. 00:55:28.12\00:55:29.66 In time, he accepted Christ and was baptized. 00:55:34.00\00:55:37.57 Now he looks forward to growing more in Jesus. 00:55:37.60\00:55:42.64 By helping them, I can share God's love 00:55:42.67\00:55:45.47 through this kind of treatment. 00:55:45.51\00:55:47.14 I also learned how to share love 00:55:47.18\00:55:49.61 and care more to others. 00:55:49.64\00:55:51.58 So yes, this treatment is really effective 00:55:51.61\00:55:55.62 in reaching people in this area. 00:55:55.65\00:55:58.99 Rupan is just one of many Global Mission pioneers 00:55:59.02\00:56:02.22 sharing the gospel within the 10/40 Window. 00:56:02.26\00:56:05.56 Please pray for Rupan 00:56:05.59\00:56:07.03 as he continues to reach out to and touch lives 00:56:07.03\00:56:10.27 through God's ministry of healing 00:56:10.30\00:56:11.87 in these challenging areas of South Asia. 00:56:11.90\00:56:14.90 When you think about the ways that the gospel can open doors, 00:56:26.15\00:56:28.95 water is one way and that's not a proverbial statement 00:56:28.98\00:56:32.82 but in fact, Jesus is the living water. 00:56:32.85\00:56:36.09 And so the Lord will use these opportunities in Proverbs. 00:56:36.12\00:56:39.83 And, Gary, it's amazing. 00:56:39.86\00:56:41.16 As I'm looking at these various stories, 00:56:41.20\00:56:42.66 we've been to Mozambique, Tanzania, Costa Rica, Brazil, 00:56:42.70\00:56:47.60 Ecuador, Sri Lanka. 00:56:47.64\00:56:49.50 We're talking about missions 00:56:49.54\00:56:50.87 that continues to encompass the entire world. 00:56:50.91\00:56:52.77 Exactly. 00:56:52.81\00:56:54.14 And that was the commission, right? 00:56:54.18\00:56:56.11 Go ye into all the world, not just part of it. 00:56:56.14\00:56:58.28 That's right. 00:56:58.31\00:56:59.65 And as we prepare, as you know, we have a wide chart here. 00:56:59.68\00:57:02.32 And you see two other people, Greg and Amy Whitsett. 00:57:02.35\00:57:05.25 Good to have you both here. 00:57:05.29\00:57:06.62 Thank you. 00:57:06.65\00:57:07.99 And we lost our brother, Rick, 00:57:08.02\00:57:10.39 Communications Director for Adventist Missions. 00:57:10.46\00:57:13.19 But in the second hour, 00:57:13.23\00:57:14.56 we're gonna have a lot more rolls. 00:57:14.56\00:57:16.46 And just briefly, 10 seconds. 00:57:16.50\00:57:19.27 What do you do 00:57:19.30\00:57:20.77 how is your connection with Adventist Missions? 00:57:20.84\00:57:23.61 Greg and I direct the center for Global Mission center 00:57:23.64\00:57:26.91 for East Asian Religions. 00:57:26.98\00:57:28.31 Okay. Well, wonderful. 00:57:28.34\00:57:29.68 You know the other side of that, 00:57:29.71\00:57:31.05 we'll give you an opportunity, Greg, 00:57:31.08\00:57:32.41 to give us more specifics. 00:57:32.45\00:57:33.95 But as you know, we'd like to let you know 00:57:34.02\00:57:36.18 there's a second hour. 00:57:36.22\00:57:37.59 We'll tell you more about 00:57:37.62\00:57:38.95 how the missions of Adventist Missions 00:57:38.99\00:57:40.69 is covering the world. 00:57:40.76\00:57:42.09 So don't go away. 00:57:42.12\00:57:43.46 We'll be back in just a couple of minutes. 00:57:43.49\00:57:45.46
