Not just in, oh, we read

and then we go on with our life.

I'm not just talking about that,

but even how we
handle the Word of God

and the respect that we
have, when relating to the Word.

You know, when
the ancient scholars

and scribes were
actually translating

the scriptures from
the ancient Canaans,

or making those,

the Word was so sacred.

And you know this, if
there was a single mistake,

they would throw out
the entire translation

and start over,
a single mistake.

If the word God or
Lord was being written,

and a king or dignitary

or some somebody like
that would walk into a room,

they were not even supposed
to acknowledge that person

And I think that we've

As we look back over history,

lives that have been spent

to preserve this Word.

and what they went through.

Last year I got to,

to be on a trip that
we studied church history.

And we went
from started in Rome,

and then went to
the Waldensian valleys

and just seeing
the rich heritage,

and you've been there.

It's just so amazing seeing
what these people went through

to preserve the Word of God,

to preserve the
faith and the guide,

was a Waldensian man
00:05:04.67\00:05:06.00
that was sharing
testimonies with us.

He brought to us
00:05:07.54\00:05:08.87
and shared with us
an old family Bible.
00:05:08.90\00:05:11.64
This Bible had been passed
down for almost 500 years.
00:05:11.67\00:05:15.81
And it was
tattered and everything
00:05:15.84\00:05:17.51
but this is the
story of the Bible.

The different inquisitors,
00:05:19.85\00:05:21.52
whatever had
come into the village
00:05:21.55\00:05:22.88
trying to wipe out
the Waldensian faith
00:05:22.92\00:05:24.59
and burn the Bibles
00:05:24.62\00:05:25.95
and they were collecting
the Bibles and burning them.
00:05:25.99\00:05:28.06
And some young
man saved this Bible
00:05:28.09\00:05:31.79
or instead of
throwing it into the fire
00:05:31.83\00:05:33.90
or letting it be taken,
00:05:33.93\00:05:35.30
he threw it over
the edge of a cliff,
00:05:35.33\00:05:37.97
trying to save the Bible.
00:05:38.00\00:05:39.33
He was killed.
00:05:39.37\00:05:40.70
That person was
killed, and everyone fled,

who wasn't killed fled.

Fifty years later,

the Waldensian
families from that village

moved back into the mountains

to try to
rebuild and reestablish

and they found
that Bible in brush

over the edge of a
cliff was still intact.

That's amazing.

For 50 years God preserved...

Through the weather. Yes.

I mean, countless others

we know over the
years gave up their life.

I think of Huss and Jerome
and Wycliffe and others who,

who stood for the Word of God.

I think about the hunger
00:06:42.60\00:06:44.63
you know, we are
blessed in the Western cultures
00:06:44.67\00:06:48.04
and Europe and different places
to have pretty free access.
00:06:48.07\00:06:51.87
But there are
places around the world
00:06:51.91\00:06:53.54
where Bibles
are not free access.
00:06:53.58\00:06:55.81
And Christians are starving.
00:06:55.84\00:06:57.55
I mean, I've
seen pictures of them
00:06:57.58\00:06:59.81
in these other Asian
cultures or close countries
00:06:59.85\00:07:02.82
getting Bibles and
they're just crying
00:07:02.85\00:07:04.75
and they're
hugging the Word of God.
00:07:04.79\00:07:07.16
I'm kind of reminded
of a young Chinese man
00:07:07.19\00:07:11.63
called Brother Yuan,
00:07:11.66\00:07:12.99
who wanted a
Bible so desperately.
00:07:13.03\00:07:15.56
He prayed for 100 days,
00:07:15.60\00:07:17.47
he fasted and
prayed for 100 days
00:07:17.50\00:07:19.27
so God would bring him a Bible.
00:07:19.30\00:07:21.57
And if he, this
was Communist China,
00:07:21.60\00:07:23.87
by the way, when this happened,
00:07:23.91\00:07:25.24
this was years
ago, when this happened.
00:07:25.27\00:07:28.88
God brought him a Bible,
but if he was caught with it,
00:07:28.91\00:07:31.28
he would be killed
00:07:31.31\00:07:32.65
or he would be
in serious trouble.

Anyway, God brought him a Bible,

and he couldn't read either.

But he learned to
read reading the Bible,

and then he
began to start churches

and house
movements and just amazing.

You've got an amazing story.

You know, I was
thinking when you were talking

about the people you saw
that got a Bible when we first,

3ABN first went
to Nizhny Novgorod

and John Carter was preaching.
00:07:55.84\00:07:58.21
And there were
thousands of people
00:07:58.24\00:08:00.94
who were showing up,
00:08:00.98\00:08:02.31
and they were
giving away Bibles.
00:08:02.34\00:08:04.05
And these people were, I
mean, the rooms are full,
00:08:04.08\00:08:08.32
they had to do two services.
00:08:08.35\00:08:10.05
The rooms were full,
00:08:10.09\00:08:11.42
but people are breaking
through the basement windows.
00:08:11.45\00:08:14.92
They wanted a Bible so badly.

And I remember
Danny saying that,

you know, he would see
00:08:18.73\00:08:20.06
when they left with their Bible,
00:08:20.10\00:08:22.36
people would just go out
and sit down in the middle of,
00:08:22.40\00:08:26.43
the middle of
wherever they were.
00:08:26.47\00:08:28.57
And they were turning the page,
00:08:28.60\00:08:30.17
they were so desperate
00:08:30.21\00:08:32.04
for the Word of
God and for a Bible.
00:08:32.07\00:08:34.34
And it's amazing to me,

you know, I
probably have 30 Bibles.

I mean, I've got
Bibles of every flavor,
00:08:41.95\00:08:44.42
if you will.
00:08:44.45\00:08:46.02
And what amazes me is
that here in the United States,

where the Word of God,
00:08:50.46\00:08:51.79
now I spend a lot
of time in the Word,
00:08:51.83\00:08:53.16
but we have a prison
ministry that 3ABN does,
00:08:53.19\00:08:57.47
and we send out
Bibles to prisoners.
00:08:57.50\00:09:00.70
I'm shocked
00:09:00.74\00:09:02.27
at how many times the prisoners,
00:09:02.30\00:09:05.17
the thank you letters are.
00:09:05.21\00:09:07.64
This is the first Bible
I've ever had in my life.

And they didn't really
hunger for the Word of God
00:09:12.31\00:09:17.89
till they got
into such a situation
00:09:17.92\00:09:21.52
that God was their only hope.

And I think that
that's our problem

is that we in the States
00:09:25.63\00:09:27.70
and many of the
developed countries,

we got everything we
need and we think that,

hey, we're rich and
have need of nothing

and so, the Word of God
isn't as powerful a draw

as many of the
distractions of the devil.

It's amazing.

Even here, though, the people

that have not ever had a Bible.

I just had a young
girl contact me recently.

I use prayer ministry to share

what God's doing in my life

she's never had a Bible.

And that compelled her something

we have them all around us.

I mean, people
that are growing up.

I mean, our world

especially here in the States

that we're a Christian nation.

She can walk into a
Walmart and buy the Bible,

but it will have
so much more meaning

because she connected with you.

And she asked for
you, and it's a gift.

So that's very precious.

I was reading Philippians 2:5-7

Paul says, "Let

that was in Christ,

Even though he was God,

and He didn't consider
being equal with God robbery

because He was,

He humbled Himself

and He took on the form of a man

which I think is
a greater personal,

I think that's a
greater sacrifice,

even in dying on the cross

flesh back to heaven.

But as I was reading that,

The Lord impressed upon my mind

is that when
Christ became a man,

dependent upon the Lord.

Here He was
co-equal in eternity.

temporary submissive role

dependent upon the Lord

trained up to be independent.

But our greatest need

been a journey for me

I did grow up in the church.

doing the right things.

When people would look at me,

they would think
she's the model person,

of course, I had my struggles.

But in my earlier,

you know, youth
and young adulthood,

I remember not trying
to be prideful or whatever,

but thinking, man,

you know, they
have their struggles.

That's good thing,

I don't have
struggles like that, you know.

And God's slowly beginning

and part of the breaking process

that I went through,

which was a very

spiritual
breaking process for me.

through that whole journey

with depression

and recognizing

life doesn't
always go as you expect

just because you
do the right things,

you know, but it's a
very humbling journey

for me also to
walk through depression

and recognize

that things are a
little bit out of control here.

God began showing me my
great needs spiritually.

You know, you
thought you're a good person.

Do you really recognize

how desperately
you need a savior?

Do you really recognize

that I died on
the cross for you?

You know,
intellectually I knew this

because I've been
raised in the church.

But what Christ
did for me on Calvary
