Is it big? 00:09:49.15\00:09:50.49 Is it not 00:09:50.52\00:09:51.85 as many people having it or where is it? 00:09:51.89\00:09:53.39 All right. 00:09:53.42\00:09:54.76 So let's set the stage here, all right? 00:09:54.79\00:09:56.12 Number one. 00:09:56.16\00:09:57.63 The number one killer in this nation 00:09:57.66\00:09:59.43 is heart disease. 00:09:59.46\00:10:01.00 Cardiovascular disease, 00:10:01.03\00:10:02.53 number one killer since 1919, 100 years to this year, 00:10:02.56\00:10:07.64 right after flu epidemic in 1918, 00:10:07.67\00:10:09.60 heart disease took over. 00:10:09.64\00:10:10.97 It's the number one killer in this nation. 00:10:11.01\00:10:13.24 It's going down... 00:10:13.27\00:10:14.61 In 17 years, it's gone down 9%. 00:10:14.64\00:10:19.08 Alzheimer's... 00:10:19.11\00:10:20.45 Death due to Alzheimer's has went up, 00:10:20.48\00:10:23.15 hold on to your seat, 00:10:23.18\00:10:24.52 145% in the opposite direction. Wow! 00:10:24.55\00:10:29.96 More death in breast cancer, 00:10:29.99\00:10:31.66 prostate cancer combined, all right? 00:10:31.69\00:10:34.86 A lot of people don't associate Alzheimer's with the death. 00:10:34.90\00:10:37.93 Yes. That's with mental declines. 00:10:37.97\00:10:40.14 Right. But not death. 00:10:40.17\00:10:41.50 Right. 00:10:41.54\00:10:42.87 So over age of 65, one in three deaths 00:10:42.90\00:10:44.91 are due to Alzheimer's disease or dementia. 00:10:44.94\00:10:48.48 One-third, all right? 00:10:48.51\00:10:50.08 So it's increased. Now how does it kill? 00:10:50.11\00:10:51.88 Well, we're gonna get into that but this is the thing, 00:10:51.91\00:10:55.18 money is that it's the multibillion dollar industry. 00:10:55.22\00:10:59.75 People are aging more and more. Right. 00:10:59.79\00:11:01.82 So therefore it's gonna be more diagnosis 00:11:01.86\00:11:04.03 and more women than men 'cause... 00:11:04.06\00:11:05.39 And more baby boomers. 00:11:05.43\00:11:06.76 And baby boomers as well. 00:11:06.80\00:11:08.13 So therefore, this is an epidemic. 00:11:08.16\00:11:09.80 And the thing about this is there's no cure. 00:11:09.83\00:11:14.24 The drugs do not cure, 00:11:14.27\00:11:16.44 the drugs available right now, they do not stop the disease, 00:11:16.47\00:11:20.01 and they don't even slow it down. 00:11:20.04\00:11:23.08 So they don't retard the progression of the disease? 00:11:23.11\00:11:26.58 No. So it is mediocre at best. 00:11:26.61\00:11:28.78 So really, there's nothing out there 00:11:28.82\00:11:30.52 that can really... 00:11:30.55\00:11:31.89 It's like an old car. 00:11:31.92\00:11:33.25 If you have a car 00:11:33.29\00:11:34.62 that's maybe 20 years old 00:11:34.66\00:11:36.86 is beat up, smoking, backfiring, 00:11:36.89\00:11:39.33 and that kind of thing, 00:11:39.36\00:11:41.13 you can put in some gas treatment 00:11:41.16\00:11:43.90 doesn't really do a whole lot, all right? 00:11:43.93\00:11:46.13 So we're going to talk about some things 00:11:46.17\00:11:47.94 that can actually go in 00:11:47.97\00:11:50.37 and do an overhaul for the car itself. 00:11:50.41\00:11:56.38 Oh! 00:11:56.41\00:11:57.75 It changed out the sparkplug. 00:11:57.78\00:11:59.18 Come on. That's evidence based. 00:12:07.02\00:12:09.19 But before into that, 00:12:09.22\00:12:10.56 there's gonna be a two-part series. 00:12:10.59\00:12:12.19 Yes. 00:12:12.23\00:12:13.56 So let's talk about Alzheimer's. 00:12:13.60\00:12:16.23 We in Huntsville, where we live, 00:12:16.26\00:12:19.03 a person came to our church 00:12:19.07\00:12:20.87 and did Alzheimer's presentation. 00:12:20.90\00:12:22.90 We went through what's called a virtual dementia tour 00:12:22.94\00:12:27.91 where we have a simulation of what a person might think 00:12:27.94\00:12:31.18 or into their mind 00:12:31.21\00:12:33.38 as far as Alzheimer's is concerned, 00:12:33.42\00:12:35.25 and my wife, we both went through there. 00:12:35.28\00:12:37.02 Honey, why don't you show the people about, 00:12:37.05\00:12:38.72 this is a virtual dementia tour. 00:12:38.75\00:12:41.06 Okay. 00:12:41.09\00:12:42.42 Now Alzheimer's Association didn't do this tour, 00:12:42.46\00:12:43.83 but independent organization did it, 00:12:43.86\00:12:46.59 but they presented to the people 00:12:46.63\00:12:48.43 kind of get an idea 00:12:48.46\00:12:49.80 of what's going on in the person's mind 00:12:49.83\00:12:52.70 who has Alzheimer's disease. 00:12:52.73\00:12:54.24 Okay. Honey, share that with us. 00:12:54.27\00:12:55.70 Well, they were quite a few people there, 00:12:55.74\00:12:57.57 and they had to begin talking to us 00:12:57.61\00:12:59.67 about Alzheimer's and dementia. 00:12:59.71\00:13:01.24 And then they said, 00:13:01.28\00:13:02.61 we're gonna take you into a room, 00:13:02.64\00:13:03.98 and we're going to put different things on you. 00:13:04.01\00:13:05.48 Something on your feet, and your hands, 00:13:05.51\00:13:07.58 and your eye or some glasses on your face and all that. 00:13:07.62\00:13:11.45 And of course, 00:13:11.49\00:13:12.82 we're trying to figure out what's gonna go down, 00:13:12.85\00:13:14.36 which is what they really want you to do 00:13:14.39\00:13:15.72 to try to figure out what is going on. 00:13:15.76\00:13:18.03 And then they take us into this room. 00:13:18.06\00:13:19.79 Now someone takes us into the room 00:13:19.83\00:13:21.83 and they don't say anything to us, 00:13:21.86\00:13:23.70 as far as what we're supposed to do. 00:13:23.73\00:13:25.47 The room has all these different tables in it 00:13:25.50\00:13:27.60 and the room is dark. 00:13:27.64\00:13:29.10 And so we have the goggles on, we've got the hand gloves on, 00:13:29.14\00:13:32.24 we got the things on our feet, 00:13:32.27\00:13:33.71 and we're walking to each table. 00:13:33.74\00:13:35.38 Now we also have a phone 00:13:35.41\00:13:38.11 that's speaking to us about something. 00:13:38.15\00:13:40.85 You hear like trains, and cars, and you hear people talking, 00:13:40.88\00:13:44.55 and then there's a voice up in there, 00:13:44.59\00:13:46.15 and you're trying to figure out is the voice trying to tell me 00:13:46.19\00:13:48.36 what I'm supposed to do in this room 00:13:48.39\00:13:50.23 because no one's saying anything to you. 00:13:50.26\00:13:52.03 So I'm standing by the table. 00:13:52.06\00:13:53.40 I'm hearing all these different sounds, 00:13:53.43\00:13:55.20 and I'm trying to listen 00:13:55.23\00:13:56.87 as to what am I supposed to do at this table. 00:13:56.90\00:13:59.57 And I hear is a little bit, but I don't hear all of it. 00:13:59.60\00:14:02.27 And then I just stand there. 00:14:02.30\00:14:04.01 And you stand for so long, 00:14:04.04\00:14:05.37 and then the person comes and gets you 00:14:05.41\00:14:06.74 and he moves you to the next table. 00:14:06.78\00:14:08.41 And on these tables have different things, 00:14:08.44\00:14:10.05 like the first table might have a lot of mixed match socks, 00:14:10.08\00:14:13.21 and they're just there. 00:14:13.25\00:14:14.58 And you don't know 00:14:14.62\00:14:15.95 am I supposed to put the socks together. 00:14:15.98\00:14:17.32 "What am I supposed to do with these socks?" 00:14:17.35\00:14:18.69 You're just standing there. 00:14:18.72\00:14:20.06 And then they come and get you 00:14:20.09\00:14:21.42 after you stand a while and you go to second table. 00:14:21.46\00:14:23.19 And it might be like plates and spoons and cups. 00:14:23.22\00:14:25.19 And so you're trying to think about, 00:14:25.23\00:14:26.56 "Okay, am I supposed to set a table?" 00:14:26.59\00:14:27.93 or "Am I supposed to do..." 00:14:27.96\00:14:29.30 And that voice is constantly going on 00:14:29.33\00:14:30.90 in your ears. 00:14:30.93\00:14:32.57 And so I didn't do the first one. 00:14:32.60\00:14:34.70 I went to the second one. 00:14:34.74\00:14:36.07 And by time I got to the second one, 00:14:36.10\00:14:37.44 I'm now getting frustrated. 00:14:37.47\00:14:38.81 And I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing. 00:14:38.84\00:14:40.34 And so I heard a word put, that's all I heard, 00:14:40.38\00:14:43.11 then I heard cars and trains and all kinds of stuff. 00:14:43.14\00:14:45.11 And then they came and got me and move me to... 00:14:45.15\00:14:47.38 So there's five different tables. 00:14:47.42\00:14:49.35 By the time I finished the last table, 00:14:49.38\00:14:51.42 I was absolutely frustrated. 00:14:51.45\00:14:54.29 I kept looking back over 00:14:54.32\00:14:55.66 at the person who bought me in the room 00:14:55.69\00:14:57.49 and they just sat there. 00:14:57.53\00:14:58.86 You can't go back and ask them anything 00:14:58.89\00:15:00.23 because you're supposed to continue to move on. 00:15:00.26\00:15:01.96 So by the time I got to the last one, 00:15:02.00\00:15:04.07 I was just standing there, I just stood there. 00:15:04.10\00:15:06.60 I just stood. 00:15:06.63\00:15:07.97 I listened, I couldn't understand it, 00:15:08.00\00:15:09.57 I stood, 00:15:09.60\00:15:10.94 and the lady came and got me, 00:15:10.97\00:15:12.31 I did absolutely nothing at all five of those tables. 00:15:12.34\00:15:15.04 I played around a little bit but I didn't know what to do. 00:15:15.08\00:15:17.58 And I came out of the room. 00:15:17.61\00:15:18.95 Where there others in the room with you besides the person? 00:15:18.98\00:15:21.18 Just me. 00:15:21.22\00:15:22.55 Okay. Yep, one at a time. 00:15:22.58\00:15:23.92 Okay, so you had various stimuli. 00:15:23.95\00:15:27.49 You had stuff going into your head. 00:15:27.52\00:15:29.26 Speaking to me. 00:15:29.29\00:15:30.63 And yet and there was darkness. 00:15:30.66\00:15:32.26 You had the gloves on. 00:15:32.29\00:15:33.80 And had the gloves on. 00:15:33.83\00:15:35.16 And had things on your feet 00:15:35.20\00:15:36.53 that's uncomfortable when you walk. 00:15:36.56\00:15:37.90 Okay. 00:15:37.93\00:15:39.27 The simulation of frustration 00:15:39.30\00:15:41.04 in the mind of a person who has Alzheimer's disease. 00:15:41.07\00:15:43.67 That was the point. 00:15:43.71\00:15:45.04 Sounds like a lot of confusion. That's exactly. 00:15:45.07\00:15:47.01 And that's what they're experiencing 00:15:47.04\00:15:48.44 in Alzheimer's mind. 00:15:48.48\00:15:51.15 And not only was I frustrated, 00:15:51.18\00:15:52.51 I was so frustrated to the point of tears 00:15:52.55\00:15:54.58 like, "What? 00:15:54.62\00:15:55.95 What?"
