I want to spend my life 00:00:02.00\00:00:07.80 Mending broken people 00:00:07.84\00:00:12.84 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.87\00:00:19.21 Removing pain 00:00:19.25\00:00:24.02 Lord, let my words 00:00:24.05\00:00:30.13 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.16\00:00:34.83 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.86\00:00:40.50 Mending broken people 00:00:40.54\00:00:46.07 I want to spend my life 00:00:46.11\00:00:51.55 Mending broken people 00:00:51.58\00:00:54.38 Hello, happy Sabbath. 00:01:09.56\00:01:12.17 Welcome to 3ABN Family Worship. 00:01:12.20\00:01:15.40 We're so glad that you our 3ABN family 00:01:15.44\00:01:19.21 are joining the rest of us around this table. 00:01:19.24\00:01:21.48 I'm Shelley Quinn. 00:01:21.51\00:01:22.84 I'm JD Quinn, and our family, 00:01:22.88\00:01:26.31 Tim and Ricky are joining us this Sabbath. 00:01:26.35\00:01:30.62 And we're so much looking forward 00:01:30.65\00:01:32.22 to sharing this time with you. 00:01:32.25\00:01:33.92 This is a good topic, Shelley. Yes, it is. 00:01:33.96\00:01:36.42 And let me just go ahead and tell you what our topic is, 00:01:36.46\00:01:38.53 because it is a little different. 00:01:38.56\00:01:41.20 It's called Benefits of Fear. 00:01:41.23\00:01:44.97 So you wanna stay tuned. 00:01:45.00\00:01:46.84 Amen. Let's have a prayer. 00:01:46.87\00:01:49.10 Father, as we come before you this Sabbath. 00:01:49.14\00:01:51.17 We just wanna thank you, Lord, for life itself. 00:01:51.21\00:01:53.88 Father, just be with us as we go through this topic. 00:01:53.91\00:01:56.34 I know this is something, Lord, 00:01:56.38\00:01:57.85 that we're all wanting to learn more about. 00:01:57.88\00:02:00.45 Take care of us, 00:02:00.48\00:02:01.82 put Your hedge of protection around 00:02:01.85\00:02:03.18 each one of us, Lord. 00:02:03.22\00:02:04.55 We give You praise and glory in Jesus' name. 00:02:04.59\00:02:06.69 Amen. Amen. 00:02:06.72\00:02:08.66 You know, I just have to tell you that 00:02:08.69\00:02:11.39 when I was putting this syllabus together, 00:02:11.43\00:02:14.90 I intended to do this on, do not fear. 00:02:14.93\00:02:18.03 And all of a sudden, 00:02:18.07\00:02:19.53 the Lord just took me 00:02:19.57\00:02:21.77 in a completely different direction. 00:02:21.80\00:02:24.47 Rational fear is a bad thing. 00:02:24.51\00:02:27.74 It can ruin our life. 00:02:27.78\00:02:29.18 It leads to tension and worry and anxiety, 00:02:29.21\00:02:32.28 which can lead to procrastination 00:02:32.31\00:02:35.75 and inaction. 00:02:35.78\00:02:38.09 But there is a good kind of fear. 00:02:38.12\00:02:43.56 God gave us a natural instinct 00:02:43.59\00:02:46.93 that we would protect ourselves against danger. 00:02:46.96\00:02:50.97 And we're gonna be talking about 00:02:51.00\00:02:52.77 the good kind of fear tonight, 00:02:52.80\00:02:55.30 because do you remember your children, 00:02:55.34\00:03:00.54 when you told them don't touch the stove, 00:03:00.58\00:03:03.35 it's hot, burn the baby. 00:03:03.38\00:03:05.95 What did it take for them to learn that? 00:03:05.98\00:03:11.39 Some of them had actually... 00:03:11.42\00:03:13.09 Touched the stove? Right, right. 00:03:13.12\00:03:14.72 Yeah. And so... 00:03:14.76\00:03:16.16 But once they touched the stove, 00:03:16.19\00:03:17.86 what's instilled in their heart, 00:03:17.89\00:03:20.16 the fear of being burned. 00:03:20.20\00:03:22.46 So fear is a good thing when it causes us 00:03:22.50\00:03:27.57 to take appropriate caution. 00:03:27.60\00:03:31.44 And that's what you know 00:03:31.47\00:03:32.81 we're trying to teach our children 00:03:32.84\00:03:34.18 'cause children can be just nearly fearless. 00:03:34.21\00:03:36.61 So, Ricky, why don't you start us off? 00:03:36.64\00:03:38.95 We're going to read in Psalm 55:3-5 00:03:38.98\00:03:44.25 shows us David's natural reaction to fear. 00:03:44.29\00:03:48.62 Yes. 00:03:48.66\00:03:49.99 Psalms 55:3-5 says, 00:03:50.03\00:03:52.39 "Because of the voice of the enemy, 00:03:52.43\00:03:55.00 because of the oppression of the wicked, 00:03:55.03\00:03:58.37 for they bring down trouble upon me 00:03:58.40\00:04:01.50 and in wrath, they hate me. 00:04:01.54\00:04:04.41 My heart is severely pained within me 00:04:04.44\00:04:08.68 and the terrors of death have fallen upon me. 00:04:08.71\00:04:13.11 Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me 00:04:13.15\00:04:18.09 and horror has overwhelmed me." 00:04:18.12\00:04:21.19 Oh, you read that well. 00:04:21.22\00:04:22.89 So we see that there is this natural instinct 00:04:22.92\00:04:26.59 when we're surrounded by trouble, 00:04:26.63\00:04:28.73 fear is totally natural. 00:04:28.76\00:04:30.20 But, Tim, how did David handle his fear? 00:04:30.23\00:04:34.30 Just a few verses later in Psalm 55:16-19. 00:04:34.34\00:04:39.07 He says, "As for me, I will call upon God 00:04:39.11\00:04:41.58 and the Lord shall save me, 00:04:41.61\00:04:43.28 evening and morning and at noon 00:04:43.31\00:04:44.91 I will pray and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice. 00:04:44.95\00:04:48.68 He has redeemed my soul in peace 00:04:48.72\00:04:51.05 from the battle that was against me, 00:04:51.09\00:04:53.29 for there were many against me. 00:04:53.32\00:04:55.59 God will hear and afflict them, even He who abides from of old. 00:04:55.62\00:05:00.30 Selah, because they do not change, 00:05:00.33\00:05:03.57 therefore they do not fear God." 00:05:03.60\00:05:05.00 Okay. 00:05:05.03\00:05:06.37 So this is just an example and what we're doing right now, 00:05:06.40\00:05:09.57 I am going to set some things up here 00:05:09.60\00:05:11.87 before we get into our study. 00:05:11.91\00:05:14.18 And what I mean is, 00:05:14.21\00:05:15.54 if we're talking about the benefits of fear, 00:05:15.58\00:05:18.48 I know that if we don't mention this, 00:05:18.51\00:05:20.38 as some of you are going to write to me and say, 00:05:20.42\00:05:23.18 but the Lord says "Fear not." 00:05:23.22\00:05:24.99 So there is a common biblical theme 00:05:25.02\00:05:27.79 where God says, "Don't fear, man. 00:05:27.82\00:05:30.56 Just realize I'm your source and your sufficiency." 00:05:30.59\00:05:33.90 So let's look at a couple of those very quickly. 00:05:33.93\00:05:36.53 Genesis 15:1, God says, 00:05:36.56\00:05:38.90 "Fear not, I'm your shield, your exceedingly great reward." 00:05:38.93\00:05:43.24 Exodus 14:13-14. 00:05:43.27\00:05:46.41 He says, "Fear not, the Lord will fight for you." 00:05:46.44\00:05:49.54 Isaiah 41:10. 00:05:49.58\00:05:51.21 He says, "Fear not, I will strengthen you. 00:05:51.25\00:05:53.98 Yes, I will help you. 00:05:54.02\00:05:55.62 I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." 00:05:55.65\00:05:59.52 Joshua 1:9. 00:05:59.55\00:06:00.96 He says, "Fear not, for the Lord your God 00:06:00.99\00:06:04.26 is with you wherever you go." 00:06:04.29\00:06:06.86 And, JD, why don't you read Isaiah 43? 00:06:06.90\00:06:09.63 1-3, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you. 00:06:09.66\00:06:14.04 I have called you by your name, You are mine. 00:06:14.07\00:06:17.71 When you pass through the waters, 00:06:17.74\00:06:19.84 I will be with you and through the rivers, 00:06:19.87\00:06:22.74 they shall not overflow you. 00:06:22.78\00:06:24.65 And when you walk through the fire, 00:06:24.68\00:06:26.58 you shall not be burned 00:06:26.61\00:06:29.45 nor shall the flames scorch you, 00:06:29.48\00:06:31.65 for I am the Lord, your God, 00:06:31.69\00:06:34.76 the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." 00:06:34.79\00:06:37.23 That's one of my favorite scriptures. 00:06:37.26\00:06:38.59 Mine too. Amen. 00:06:38.63\00:06:39.96 And in John 14:27, Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you. 00:06:40.00\00:06:44.87 My peace I given unto you, 00:06:44.90\00:06:46.80 not as the world gives, give I to you." 00:06:46.84\00:06:50.31 He says, "Let not your heart be troubled. 00:06:50.34\00:06:52.57 Don't be afraid." 00:06:52.61\00:06:53.98 So yes, there is this command 00:06:54.01\00:06:57.38 fear not from the Lord, 00:06:57.41\00:06:59.01 but what does that command mean? 00:06:59.05\00:07:00.68 What do you think? 00:07:00.72\00:07:02.05 Do you think that God is saying that 00:07:02.08\00:07:03.42 we're gonna be completely over the emotion of fear, 00:07:03.45\00:07:06.35 this instinctive fear. 00:07:06.39\00:07:07.72 No, we're still gonna have that kind of panic at times. 00:07:07.76\00:07:12.69 But He wants us to trust in His promises. 00:07:12.73\00:07:15.86 Amen. 00:07:15.90\00:07:17.50 So it's basically He's regulating it. 00:07:17.53\00:07:20.47 I mean, He's telling these people, don't panic. 00:07:20.50\00:07:23.00 When you get there, 00:07:23.04\00:07:24.37 just remember that I am your sufficiency. 00:07:24.41\00:07:27.51 Ricky, what does... 00:07:27.54\00:07:29.28 Now we're gonna get into our study. 00:07:29.31\00:07:32.01 Read Jesus' words from Matthew 10:28. 00:07:32.05\00:07:36.18 "And do not fear those who kill the body, 00:07:36.22\00:07:39.25 but cannot kill the soul. 00:07:39.29\00:07:41.29 But rather fear him who is able to destroy 00:07:41.32\00:07:44.89 both soul and body in hell." 00:07:44.93\00:07:49.66 Okay. Have you heard? 00:07:49.70\00:07:51.30 And I think I've said it myself. 00:07:51.33\00:07:54.14 When we talk about fearing the Lord, 00:07:54.17\00:07:56.67 we say, oh, this isn't a knee knocking fear. 00:07:56.71\00:07:59.81 This is reverence and awe for God. 00:07:59.84\00:08:03.28 And that is true. 00:08:03.31\00:08:06.11 But there is an element of fear 00:08:06.15\00:08:11.52 like you would fear a parent. 00:08:11.55\00:08:13.05 Sure. Did you fear your father? 00:08:13.09\00:08:15.29 Oh, yes. Yes. Okay. 00:08:15.32\00:08:17.09 Did your father love you? Oh, yes. He sure did. 00:08:17.13\00:08:19.89 Do you think that what he told you not to do 00:08:19.93\00:08:23.97 was for your own benefit? 00:08:24.00\00:08:25.33 Absolutely. True. 00:08:25.37\00:08:26.70 And what happened when you didn't do it? 00:08:26.74\00:08:29.60 I think we all know. 00:08:29.64\00:08:30.97 We all know what happened. All right. 00:08:31.01\00:08:32.87 So the reason we say that 00:08:32.91\00:08:36.64 we "fear a parent" 00:08:36.68\00:08:40.68 is because there is an expectancy of obedience. 00:08:40.72\00:08:45.95 We are submitting to that parent 00:08:45.99\00:08:49.12 and you know what? 00:08:49.16\00:08:50.49 That's what God wants too. 00:08:50.53\00:08:52.59 I found some ancient literature, 00:08:52.63\00:08:55.60 Near Eastern literature 00:08:55.63\00:08:57.53 that was talking about loyalty, covenant loyalty. 00:08:57.57\00:09:03.10 And we're all in covenant relationship 00:09:03.14\00:09:05.41 with the Lord. 00:09:05.44\00:09:06.78 And you know how they expressed covenant loyalty? 00:09:06.81\00:09:11.08 Fear and love. 00:09:11.11\00:09:13.98 We're supposed to love God, 00:09:14.02\00:09:16.05 but we are supposed to fear God 00:09:16.08\00:09:19.52 in that we reverently, 00:09:19.55\00:09:22.79 humbly submit to His authority. 00:09:22.82\00:09:27.03 So what do you think? 00:09:27.06\00:09:28.96 Let's give a definition. 00:09:29.00\00:09:31.20 Jump in here, anybody. 00:09:31.23\00:09:32.57 What does it mean to fear the Lord? 00:09:32.60\00:09:37.61 Well, I've always heard that 00:09:37.64\00:09:38.97 one of the definition would be we're in awe of Him. 00:09:39.01\00:09:42.18 So consequently, we reverent Him. 00:09:42.21\00:09:44.81 Reverence? Okay. 00:09:44.85\00:09:46.95 And submit to Him. 00:09:46.98\00:09:48.38 Submit to Him. That's a biggy one. 00:09:48.42\00:09:52.19 So why do we submit to His authority? 00:09:52.22\00:09:56.02 You wanna have respect for God, respect for His laws, 00:09:56.06\00:10:01.70 even I would say, submit that, 00:10:01.73\00:10:04.27 even having a dread of offending Him. 00:10:04.30\00:10:08.50 Oh, that's good. 00:10:08.54\00:10:09.87 You just, it should just and to abhor evil, 00:10:09.90\00:10:15.24 I think it's something else that would be part of this, 00:10:15.28\00:10:18.41 definition of the fear of the Lord. 00:10:18.45\00:10:20.48 Amen. 00:10:20.52\00:10:21.85 And, of course, to honor Him. 00:10:21.88\00:10:25.49 If He's our creator, if He's our redeemer, 00:10:25.52\00:10:30.36 shouldn't we be motivated by love 00:10:30.39\00:10:35.30 to humbly submit? 00:10:35.33\00:10:37.13 Right. 00:10:37.17\00:10:38.50 I mean, He knows everything. Right. 00:10:38.53\00:10:41.27 I think we do tend to make it a little bit lofty 00:10:41.30\00:10:44.41 when we're dealing with God, 00:10:44.44\00:10:45.77 because He's God, because He is our creator, 00:10:45.81\00:10:49.48 our redeemer. 00:10:49.51\00:10:50.85 But when we put it in the same perspective 00:10:50.88\00:10:53.52 that we would our fathers, 00:10:53.55\00:10:56.18 our earthly fathers, and granted, 00:10:56.22\00:10:58.15 there are some that 00:10:58.19\00:10:59.52 have a dysfunctional relationship 00:10:59.55\00:11:01.49 with their earthly father. 00:11:01.52\00:11:02.86 So that wouldn't necessarily 00:11:02.89\00:11:04.26 be appropriate for every person. 00:11:04.29\00:11:07.36 They may not feel that way. 00:11:07.40\00:11:08.73 But for those like myself, 00:11:08.76\00:11:10.73 I know, you know, I love my dad. 00:11:10.77\00:11:12.53 I love him. 00:11:12.57\00:11:13.90 I know that he would not do harm to me. 00:11:13.94\00:11:17.21 And he only means good. 00:11:17.24\00:11:18.57 He was a great provider, 00:11:18.61\00:11:19.94 a great husband to my mom 00:11:19.97\00:11:21.41 and a great father to me and my sisters. 00:11:21.44\00:11:24.18 And so, you know, there's just the love. 00:11:24.21\00:11:26.95 I think that's so much of what we need to feel toward God 00:11:26.98\00:11:31.85 about so many of the roles 00:11:31.89\00:11:34.02 that He plays in our life 00:11:34.06\00:11:35.99 is we love Him because it's a relationship. 00:11:36.02\00:11:38.96 It's the personal relationship aspect. 00:11:38.99\00:11:41.20 And so even in the fear we know that it's a good thing. 00:11:41.23\00:11:45.67 If He tells us to fear Him, 00:11:45.70\00:11:47.90 then there's a good reason behind it. 00:11:47.94\00:11:50.07 And it isn't out of... 00:11:50.11\00:11:53.21 Exactly. And you know what? 00:11:53.24\00:11:55.98 And you're gonna see that as we go through this. 00:11:56.01\00:11:59.11 We're going to find out that 00:11:59.15\00:12:01.52 in the same verses where it's talking about 00:12:01.55\00:12:05.52 fear of the Lord, it's talking about His mercy, 00:12:05.55\00:12:08.59 His favor, and they're all combined. 00:12:08.62\00:12:11.29 So, Ricky, let's look at 00:12:11.33\00:12:14.60 what covenant loyalty is all about 00:12:14.63\00:12:17.40 and what are the benefits of fearing God. 00:12:17.43\00:12:20.87 Ricky, you want to kick us off? Yeah. 00:12:20.90\00:12:22.97 Let's read here Jeremiah Chapter... 00:12:23.00\00:12:26.37 And so what is the benefit? 00:12:26.41\00:12:28.28 Okay. 00:12:28.31\00:12:30.41 To fear the Lord, 00:12:30.45\00:12:31.78 we will not depart from the Lord. 00:12:31.81\00:12:35.62 And He will always be part of our lives. 00:12:35.65\00:12:37.72 So what happens without fear of the Lord? 00:12:37.75\00:12:42.36 Jeremiah 2:19 says 00:12:42.39\00:12:46.19 "Your own wickedness will correct you 00:12:46.23\00:12:50.03 and your backslidings will rebuke you, 00:12:50.07\00:12:53.77 know therefore and see that it is an evil 00:12:53.80\00:12:57.24 and bitter thing that you have forsaken 00:12:57.27\00:12:59.74 the Lord your God. 00:12:59.77\00:13:01.91 And the fear of me is not in you, 00:13:01.94\00:13:04.71 says the Lord God of hosts." 00:13:04.75\00:13:06.58 So here's, this is God speaking. 00:13:06.61\00:13:10.39 And He's saying, you don't fear me. 00:13:10.42\00:13:14.16 You don't honor Me. You don't respect Me. 00:13:14.19\00:13:17.53 You're not... And what happened? 00:13:17.56\00:13:20.06 You have forsaken Me. 00:13:20.10\00:13:21.60 You've departed from Me. 00:13:21.63\00:13:23.37 So what happens when we do fear the Lord? 00:13:23.40\00:13:25.57 Jeremiah 32:38-41, 00:13:25.60\00:13:29.87 "They shall be My people, and I will be their God, 00:13:29.90\00:13:35.38 then I will give them one heart and one way, 00:13:35.41\00:13:39.91 that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them 00:13:39.95\00:13:44.42 and their children after them. 00:13:44.45\00:13:47.06 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, 00:13:47.09\00:13:51.06 that I will not turn away from doing them good, 00:13:51.09\00:13:54.53 but I will put My fear in their hearts 00:13:54.56\00:13:58.77 so that they will not depart from Me. 00:13:58.80\00:14:01.90 Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, 00:14:01.94\00:14:06.24 and I will assuredly plant them in this land, 00:14:06.27\00:14:10.95 with all My heart and with all My soul." 00:14:10.98\00:14:14.95 I love the juxtapositions in here. 00:14:14.98\00:14:17.25 Yeah. Fear me forever. 00:14:17.29\00:14:19.22 I'm going to put fear in your heart so that what? 00:14:19.25\00:14:22.82 So that I can do good to you always. 00:14:22.86\00:14:26.09 It's just... 00:14:26.13\00:14:28.23 That's one of my favorite scriptures. 00:14:28.26\00:14:31.53 He'll rejoice over them. 00:14:31.57\00:14:33.13 He rejoices over those. 00:14:33.17\00:14:35.94 And so we see that, 00:14:35.97\00:14:40.38 you know, I'm gonna say this. 00:14:40.41\00:14:42.58 My sister was someone 00:14:42.61\00:14:45.71 that never developed fear of my mother. 00:14:45.75\00:14:49.78 She was the most disrespectful, 00:14:49.82\00:14:52.42 rebellious child you could ever see. 00:14:52.45\00:14:54.49 And my mother could have told her, 00:14:54.52\00:14:56.93 if you don't do this, you're gonna get a spanking. 00:14:56.96\00:14:59.19 She couldn't care less. 00:14:59.23\00:15:01.50 And she had a very troubled beginning. 00:15:01.53\00:15:05.00 It took her years 00:15:05.03\00:15:07.17 before she came around to recognize 00:15:07.20\00:15:11.24 that she should have honored and submitted in this. 00:15:11.27\00:15:16.14 So when we don't fear the Lord, 00:15:16.18\00:15:21.08 we have a tendency to walk away from Him 00:15:21.12\00:15:23.69 and that's where we get into trouble. 00:15:23.72\00:15:26.29 So, Tim, what's our second benefit? 00:15:26.32\00:15:28.19 Well, I was going to just comment real briefly 00:15:28.22\00:15:30.03 about the two differences in that. 00:15:30.06\00:15:32.36 What happens without fear of the Lord? 00:15:32.39\00:15:34.26 We walk in consequences. 00:15:34.30\00:15:36.90 But when we... 00:15:36.93\00:15:38.47 What happens when we do fear the Lord? 00:15:38.50\00:15:40.40 We walk in confidence. 00:15:40.44\00:15:42.70 So you choose today, 00:15:42.74\00:15:44.14 whether you're gonna walk in consequences, 00:15:44.17\00:15:47.08 which, you know, it says your own wickedness 00:15:47.11\00:15:50.11 will correct you. 00:15:50.15\00:15:51.51 That so you're gonna walk in consequences. 00:15:51.55\00:15:54.15 Whereas if you're walking in fear, 00:15:54.18\00:15:57.05 fear of the Lord, 00:15:57.09\00:15:58.42 when you do fear a holy fear of the Lord, 00:15:58.45\00:16:00.96 you'll walk in confidence of Him. 00:16:00.99\00:16:02.56 So, okay. 00:16:02.59\00:16:03.96 Fear of the Lord brings wisdom 00:16:03.99\00:16:06.26 that is declared in several times in the Bible. 00:16:06.29\00:16:10.53 So in Job 28:28 says, 00:16:10.57\00:16:12.80 "Behold the fear of the Lord that is wisdom 00:16:12.83\00:16:15.94 and to depart from evil is understanding." 00:16:15.97\00:16:19.74 Psalm 111:10, 00:16:19.77\00:16:22.04 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. 00:16:22.08\00:16:24.65 A good understanding 00:16:24.68\00:16:26.08 have all those who do His commandments, 00:16:26.11\00:16:28.92 His praise endures forever." 00:16:28.95\00:16:32.95 What strikes me about that 00:16:32.99\00:16:34.46 one is if the fear of the Lord brings wisdom, 00:16:34.49\00:16:39.93 then it's wise to fear the Lord, isn't it? 00:16:39.96\00:16:41.83 Amen. Right. 00:16:41.86\00:16:43.53 And then the result is what? 00:16:43.57\00:16:46.94 We depart from evil. Sure. 00:16:46.97\00:16:49.47 But then in Psalm 111:10, 00:16:49.50\00:16:53.54 it says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." 00:16:53.58\00:16:58.51 That it's a good understanding 00:16:58.55\00:17:01.22 that we walk in obedience to His commandments. 00:17:01.25\00:17:05.85 Does obeying God save us? 00:17:05.89\00:17:10.26 What saves us? Jesus saves us. 00:17:10.29\00:17:12.79 Jesus saves us by grace through faith. 00:17:12.83\00:17:16.33 So it isn't our obedience that saves us. 00:17:16.36\00:17:19.10 But you know what? 00:17:19.13\00:17:20.47 1 John says, I mean, we're made righteous by faith, 00:17:20.50\00:17:23.54 but yet obedience is so important 00:17:23.57\00:17:26.01 because God calls us into covenant. 00:17:26.04\00:17:29.74 It's a covenant of grace and love. 00:17:29.78\00:17:33.62 He makes all of the promises, 00:17:33.65\00:17:36.65 but He asks of us covenant loyalty, 00:17:36.69\00:17:40.86 and covenant loyalty is to love the Lord your God 00:17:40.89\00:17:44.16 with all your heart, mind, strength, 00:17:44.19\00:17:47.26 and to walk in obedience. 00:17:47.30\00:17:50.73 What did Jesus say in John14:15? 00:17:50.77\00:17:53.64 "If you love Me, keep My commandments." 00:17:53.67\00:17:57.54 Yeah. Again, it's based on love. 00:17:57.57\00:18:00.44 If what you love is what you will obey. 00:18:00.48\00:18:05.15 So that's... Yeah. 00:18:05.18\00:18:07.35 And that affects how we act as well. 00:18:07.38\00:18:10.22 I think about a situation 00:18:10.25\00:18:12.95 where there is a student at school 00:18:12.99\00:18:16.69 and the professor at this university, 00:18:16.73\00:18:19.86 he asked for the students 00:18:19.89\00:18:21.93 to write the name of Jesus on a piece of paper, 00:18:21.96\00:18:26.90 put the paper on the ground and stomp on it. 00:18:26.94\00:18:32.07 Now there were several of the students 00:18:32.11\00:18:34.74 who just blindly just did it. 00:18:34.78\00:18:37.71 There is a few students who didn't want to do it. 00:18:37.75\00:18:40.98 And there was one of the students 00:18:41.02\00:18:42.62 who just said, you know, I'm not doing this. 00:18:42.65\00:18:44.89 And he even went and told the administration 00:18:44.92\00:18:48.69 about what this would happen. 00:18:48.72\00:18:50.06 And he was just totally against this. 00:18:50.09\00:18:51.96 And didn't like what was happening. 00:18:51.99\00:18:55.06 The student also told the media 00:18:55.10\00:18:58.17 and the school at first, 00:18:58.20\00:19:02.20 the schools didn't have a problem with it. 00:19:02.24\00:19:04.64 They said it was all right. 00:19:04.67\00:19:06.14 But then after all the flack 00:19:06.17\00:19:08.44 that they were getting in the news, 00:19:08.48\00:19:10.68 they recanted and they apologized. 00:19:10.71\00:19:13.88 Now, what's interesting about this story is that 00:19:13.92\00:19:16.58 it may shock us that, you know, 00:19:16.62\00:19:21.26 we hold Jesus name very dear to us, right? 00:19:21.29\00:19:25.69 But have you ever thought about, 00:19:25.73\00:19:28.63 are there any times that 00:19:28.66\00:19:30.03 we may have stomped on Jesus' name ourselves 00:19:30.07\00:19:34.47 just by maybe how we, 00:19:34.50\00:19:38.87 our attitudes, 00:19:38.91\00:19:42.91 our actions, you know. 00:19:42.94\00:19:47.52 And then, you know, we should be thinking, 00:19:47.55\00:19:49.98 you know, have we stomped on Jesus today, you know? 00:19:50.02\00:19:54.52 So this act of fearing God, 00:19:54.56\00:19:59.63 I think that we need to look twice, 00:19:59.66\00:20:05.23 look at it again and make sure that 00:20:05.27\00:20:07.37 we aren't that we want to have a reverence for God. 00:20:07.40\00:20:11.34 And respect for Him in our thoughts, 00:20:11.37\00:20:15.24 in our actions, how we treat others. 00:20:15.28\00:20:17.75 I think it's important. 00:20:17.78\00:20:19.11 You know, who you're honoring, who you're worshiping, 00:20:19.15\00:20:22.58 who you're choosing to serve, 00:20:22.62\00:20:24.49 who you love, 00:20:24.52\00:20:26.52 with this love comes relationship. 00:20:26.55\00:20:29.62 Yeah. That's who you want to be with. 00:20:29.66\00:20:31.99 Yeah. 00:20:32.03\00:20:33.36 When you said that, Ricky, 00:20:33.40\00:20:34.73 what came to my mind was the third commandment 00:20:34.76\00:20:36.80 that you shall not take my name in vain. 00:20:36.83\00:20:39.43 And truthfully, 00:20:39.47\00:20:42.20 that's a really 00:20:42.24\00:20:45.44 startling example, 00:20:45.47\00:20:50.35 the story you shared. 00:20:50.38\00:20:52.05 But if we call ourselves Christians, 00:20:52.08\00:20:56.05 and then we go out into the world 00:20:56.08\00:20:58.39 and we're rude or crude, 00:20:58.42\00:21:00.96 or we're doing something, 00:21:00.99\00:21:02.86 we are stomping on the name of Christ. 00:21:02.89\00:21:07.43 That's a good analogy. 00:21:07.46\00:21:11.23 This is really quite deep 00:21:11.27\00:21:12.83 if you stop and really think about it. 00:21:12.87\00:21:14.20 Yeah. 00:21:14.24\00:21:15.57 But did he ever explain himself why he had the kids do that? 00:21:15.60\00:21:18.84 I mean, that's... 00:21:18.87\00:21:20.31 So the fear of the Lord 00:21:23.71\00:21:26.58 is the beginning of wisdom. 00:21:26.61\00:21:30.09 I knew a lady who had her ThD, 00:21:33.72\00:21:37.63 that's a doctoral degree in theology. 00:21:37.66\00:21:41.63 She started coming to some of my meetings 00:21:41.66\00:21:43.60 when I was in Texas. 00:21:43.63\00:21:47.00 This woman had spent like 00:21:47.04\00:21:50.21 she had several degrees, 00:21:50.24\00:21:51.57 but nine years studying the Bible, 00:21:51.61\00:21:53.98 had no relationship with the Lord. 00:21:54.01\00:21:57.35 She had a really 00:21:57.38\00:22:01.92 sour personality. 00:22:01.95\00:22:05.59 So was she wise? 00:22:05.62\00:22:08.79 I mean, if the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, 00:22:11.89\00:22:14.90 I mean, that should be, 00:22:14.93\00:22:17.13 the fear of the Lord should come, 00:22:17.17\00:22:19.97 the root should be love, honor, respect. 00:22:20.00\00:22:24.37 Wisdom doesn't necessarily mean 00:22:24.41\00:22:26.94 how much you've studied this Bible, 00:22:26.98\00:22:29.94 but how much has gone from here to here. 00:22:29.98\00:22:33.28 Now there's a difference between a knowledge and wisdom. 00:22:33.31\00:22:35.52 A head knowledge and a heart knowledge, right? 00:22:35.55\00:22:38.22 You can know any book, 00:22:38.25\00:22:40.36 but unless you've applied it 00:22:40.39\00:22:42.02 and fallen in love with it, 00:22:42.06\00:22:43.76 or the writer of it 00:22:43.79\00:22:45.83 in this case that's the difference. 00:22:45.86\00:22:49.03 So wisdom, when we say the fear of the Lord 00:22:49.06\00:22:51.33 is the beginning of a wisdom. 00:22:51.37\00:22:52.77 It's the application of knowledge, right? 00:22:52.80\00:22:55.57 That's our spiritual foundation. 00:22:55.60\00:22:58.37 So to fear the Lord, 00:22:58.41\00:23:01.34 the benefit, we will not depart 00:23:01.38\00:23:04.35 from walking with Him. 00:23:04.38\00:23:06.95 We will begin to apply His Word. 00:23:06.98\00:23:10.42 The benefit of fearing God is that we will become wise. 00:23:10.45\00:23:16.39 JD, what else will happen? 00:23:16.42\00:23:18.79 Well, also, in following this Lamb 00:23:18.83\00:23:21.96 and falling in love with Him, we will want to walk with Him. 00:23:22.00\00:23:25.40 We will want to follow His path. 00:23:25.43\00:23:27.37 We will walk in His ways. 00:23:27.40\00:23:30.57 And Deuteronomy 10:12, 00:23:30.61\00:23:33.41 "And now Israel, 00:23:33.44\00:23:35.54 what does the Lord your God require of you, 00:23:35.58\00:23:38.75 but to fear the Lord your God, 00:23:38.78\00:23:40.75 to walk in all His ways, to love Him, 00:23:40.78\00:23:44.35 to serve Lord your God, 00:23:44.39\00:23:45.82 with all your heart, with all your soul." 00:23:45.85\00:23:49.09 Also in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, 00:23:49.12\00:23:53.93 "Let us hear the conclusions of the whole matter. 00:23:53.96\00:23:57.63 Fear God and keep His commandments, 00:23:57.67\00:24:00.84 for this is man's all. 00:24:00.87\00:24:03.27 For God will bring every work into judgment, 00:24:03.30\00:24:06.07 including every secret thing, whether good or evil." 00:24:06.11\00:24:12.05 So who was Ecclesiastes written by? 00:24:12.08\00:24:14.85 Solomon. 00:24:14.88\00:24:16.22 And what was Solomon's supposed to be? 00:24:16.25\00:24:17.62 Wisest. The wisest man. 00:24:17.65\00:24:19.69 When you look at 00:24:19.72\00:24:21.06 some of Solomon's personal life, 00:24:21.09\00:24:22.59 you kinda wonder about that. 00:24:22.62\00:24:24.89 But after he found all this vanity, 00:24:24.93\00:24:29.06 he chased so many things in his life. 00:24:29.10\00:24:32.53 He ends, Ecclesiastes 12, 00:24:32.57\00:24:38.14 it's the last chapter verses 13 and 14, 12, 13, 14. 00:24:38.17\00:24:42.51 This is a conclusion of everything that he learned, 00:24:42.54\00:24:47.18 fear God, and keep His commandments. 00:24:47.22\00:24:50.32 But we just saw Deuteronomy, to fear the Lord means to what? 00:24:50.35\00:24:55.52 Walk in all His ways. 00:24:55.56\00:24:57.03 Walk in all His ways and love Him. 00:24:57.06\00:25:00.00 So it is, you know, 00:25:00.03\00:25:02.60 when we talk about the fear of the Lord, 00:25:02.63\00:25:05.53 this isn't that the knocking like, 00:25:05.57\00:25:08.20 you know, the Bible says, "Perfect love casts out fear." 00:25:08.24\00:25:12.64 It's talking about that knee knocking, 00:25:12.67\00:25:15.58 you know, oh, like I'm terrified. 00:25:15.61\00:25:17.75 No, it's to love, 00:25:17.78\00:25:20.62 to honor, to reverence. 00:25:20.65\00:25:23.85 You know, I guess, I... 00:25:23.89\00:25:29.19 Go ahead. To be loyal. 00:25:29.22\00:25:30.99 To be loyal. 00:25:31.03\00:25:32.49 It's all about covenant loyalty and love, isn't it? 00:25:32.53\00:25:36.06 I think about us. 00:25:36.10\00:25:37.43 I was not in any armed service, 00:25:37.47\00:25:40.54 but I think of a private for, 00:25:40.57\00:25:43.54 or sergeant or whatever, 00:25:43.57\00:25:45.47 or for a general 00:25:45.51\00:25:46.84 whatever the level of rank is there. 00:25:46.88\00:25:51.68 There is a respect that the lesser has for the greater. 00:25:51.71\00:25:56.58 Yes. But it's more out of title. 00:25:56.62\00:26:00.39 And they know that there are repercussions, 00:26:00.42\00:26:05.09 again, consequences if they don't respect that. 00:26:05.13\00:26:07.76 But as children of God, 00:26:07.80\00:26:10.43 we understand that there is also a rank difference 00:26:10.47\00:26:14.60 of the lesser to the greater, 00:26:14.64\00:26:16.10 but again, because of our relationship, 00:26:16.14\00:26:18.21 because of our desire to please Him, 00:26:18.24\00:26:20.81 our desire to be loyal to Him, 00:26:20.84\00:26:22.64 if we truly do have that kind of a hunger 00:26:22.68\00:26:26.51 to have a godly relationship, you know with God, 00:26:26.55\00:26:30.72 then I think that's where that love, 00:26:30.75\00:26:32.25 that's where our walk and our fear becomes healthy. 00:26:32.29\00:26:35.82 You know, I'm glad you said that 00:26:35.86\00:26:37.73 'cause it reminded me of 00:26:37.76\00:26:39.09 what I was trying to say earlier. 00:26:39.13\00:26:41.36 In 1 John, 00:26:41.40\00:26:43.43 He says in 1 John 3:8, 00:26:43.47\00:26:48.84 "He who sins is of the devil. 00:26:48.87\00:26:50.77 The devil has sinned from the beginning. 00:26:50.81\00:26:53.17 And for this purpose, the Son of God was manifested 00:26:53.21\00:26:56.48 that He might destroy the works of the devil." 00:26:56.51\00:27:01.15 But He goes on to say, 00:27:01.18\00:27:04.62 "We're made righteous by faith." 00:27:04.65\00:27:06.29 There's no doubt 00:27:06.32\00:27:07.76 'cause our righteousness is filthy rags before the Lord. 00:27:07.79\00:27:11.86 But then He says, "Do not be fooled. 00:27:11.89\00:27:14.90 He who practices righteousness is righteous." 00:27:14.93\00:27:20.47 So to practice righteousness means 00:27:20.50\00:27:23.81 you're gonna be in right standing with God 00:27:23.84\00:27:26.34 that you're gonna walk in His ways. 00:27:26.37\00:27:28.54 Amen. So obedience doesn't save us. 00:27:28.58\00:27:34.32 But if we're saved, if we are in that 00:27:34.35\00:27:38.32 redeemed relationship with the Lord, 00:27:38.35\00:27:43.39 we will love Him. 00:27:43.43\00:27:45.19 We will respect Him. 00:27:45.23\00:27:46.66 It shows that we believe in Him. 00:27:46.70\00:27:48.03 Yeah. 00:27:48.06\00:27:49.40 We walk in Him. 00:27:49.43\00:27:50.77 That is our covenant faithfulness. 00:27:50.80\00:27:54.54 All right. 00:27:54.57\00:27:55.90 Now what you read, JD, somebody is gonna say, 00:27:55.94\00:27:59.27 "Oh, Deuteronomy, 00:27:59.31\00:28:00.88 when God said, fear the Lord, walk in my ways. 00:28:00.91\00:28:04.05 That's Old Testament." 00:28:04.08\00:28:06.11 What Solomon said, "Oh, that's Old Testament." 00:28:06.15\00:28:09.88 Does the fear of the Lord play a role 00:28:09.92\00:28:12.65 in the New Testament church, Tim? 00:28:12.69\00:28:14.76 Sure, it does. 00:28:14.79\00:28:16.39 There are examples in Acts 9:31 that says, 00:28:16.42\00:28:20.60 "Then the churches throughout all Judea, 00:28:20.63\00:28:22.56 Galilee and Samaria had peace and were edified 00:28:22.60\00:28:26.84 and walking in the fear of the Lord 00:28:26.87\00:28:28.97 and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, 00:28:29.00\00:28:31.71 they were multiplied." 00:28:31.74\00:28:33.61 Also in 2 Corinthians 7:1, 00:28:33.64\00:28:37.35 "Therefore having these promises, beloved, 00:28:37.38\00:28:39.51 let us cleanse ourselves 00:28:39.55\00:28:41.15 from all filthiness of the flesh 00:28:41.18\00:28:42.85 and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God." 00:28:42.88\00:28:46.76 Yeah. 00:28:46.79\00:28:48.12 And another text, Tim, is Revelation 14:7. 00:28:48.16\00:28:51.69 It says, "Saying with a loud voice, 00:28:51.73\00:28:53.43 'Fear God and give glory to Him, 00:28:53.46\00:28:56.93 for the hour of His judgment has come, 00:28:56.97\00:28:59.87 and worship Him who made the heaven and earth, 00:28:59.90\00:29:04.81 the sea and springs of water.'" 00:29:04.84\00:29:07.04 You know, of course that's the beginning 00:29:07.08\00:29:09.68 of the three angels' messages 00:29:09.71\00:29:12.01 actually begins in Revelation 14:6 00:29:12.05\00:29:15.25 where it says that 00:29:15.28\00:29:17.32 there's this everlasting gospel 00:29:17.35\00:29:19.95 to give to all the nations of the earth. 00:29:19.99\00:29:23.06 And then it starts off with the first angel saying, 00:29:23.09\00:29:26.23 "Fear God, and give Him glory." 00:29:26.26\00:29:29.60 Now, and it shows here 00:29:29.63\00:29:32.13 we're worshiping Him as a creator, 00:29:32.17\00:29:34.40 but can we go back to Acts 9:31? 00:29:34.44\00:29:37.01 Let's talk about that. 00:29:37.04\00:29:38.97 The New Testament churches throughout Judea, 00:29:39.01\00:29:43.38 Galilee and Samaria had peace. 00:29:43.41\00:29:48.62 They were edified, 00:29:48.65\00:29:49.98 which means to be built up, 00:29:50.02\00:29:52.59 walking in the fear of the Lord and what? 00:29:52.62\00:29:56.59 Comfort of the Holy Spirit. 00:29:56.62\00:29:58.93 Isn't the juxtaposition. 00:29:58.96\00:30:01.10 Every time you see fear of the Lord, mercy, 00:30:01.13\00:30:05.70 fear of the Lord, love, fear of the Lord, comfort. 00:30:05.73\00:30:10.84 The juxtaposition, and that's just to say, 00:30:10.87\00:30:16.44 it's just as if it's positioned by, 00:30:16.48\00:30:18.61 you know, the juxtaposition is when you've got 00:30:18.65\00:30:22.12 two seemingly contrasting ideas 00:30:22.15\00:30:26.59 that are just put back to back. 00:30:26.62\00:30:29.09 So when we say fear the Lord 00:30:29.12\00:30:32.79 and the benefits of fear the Lord 00:30:32.83\00:30:35.76 is to walk in His way. 00:30:35.80\00:30:38.93 We walk in the comfort of the Holy Spirit. 00:30:38.97\00:30:42.04 So you can see it's not that knee knocking 00:30:42.07\00:30:46.17 kind of experience. 00:30:46.21\00:30:47.54 Amen. 00:30:47.58\00:30:48.91 And then the end results was multiplication. 00:30:48.94\00:30:52.65 Yeah. That's good. 00:30:52.68\00:30:54.32 Putting those two together and... 00:30:54.35\00:30:56.55 So why do you think the church multiplied 00:30:56.58\00:30:58.85 so much as they walked in the fear of the Lord 00:30:58.89\00:31:01.32 and the comfort of the Holy Spirit? 00:31:01.36\00:31:03.43 Well, number one, it's because they were blessed. 00:31:03.46\00:31:06.90 They were blessed because of the relationship. 00:31:06.93\00:31:09.60 And I choose to believe that 00:31:09.63\00:31:10.97 as they walked hand in hand, 00:31:11.00\00:31:13.30 not literally, but together united, 00:31:13.34\00:31:17.44 well then a relationship was formed. 00:31:17.47\00:31:23.58 And then we find 00:31:23.61\00:31:24.95 through the aid of the Holy Spirit, 00:31:24.98\00:31:26.72 joining with them, 00:31:26.75\00:31:28.45 then they say became on fire for the Lord. 00:31:28.48\00:31:31.42 And then they added to the multiplication. 00:31:31.45\00:31:33.92 Yeah. They caused it, didn't they? 00:31:33.96\00:31:35.32 Yeah, they did. 00:31:35.36\00:31:36.69 As they walked and obey, what kind of witness were they? 00:31:36.73\00:31:41.36 You know, if they were multiplying that fast, 00:31:41.40\00:31:44.33 it's because people were looking at Adventists. 00:31:44.37\00:31:46.23 Humanity is attracting. It is. 00:31:46.27\00:31:48.90 Attractive. 00:31:48.94\00:31:50.27 It is attractive, 00:31:50.31\00:31:51.64 but it's also one of these things 00:31:51.67\00:31:53.21 where somebody might look, Ricky, 00:31:53.24\00:31:55.48 I don't know, you're... 00:31:55.51\00:31:56.85 Were you always a Christian? 00:31:56.88\00:31:58.71 I was reared. Yes, ma'am. 00:31:58.75\00:32:00.08 You were reared in a Christian home, 00:32:00.12\00:32:01.88 but did you ever have a... 00:32:01.92\00:32:03.25 Oh, I had my wayward times. Okay. 00:32:03.28\00:32:05.55 So it would be like somebody 00:32:05.59\00:32:07.99 who knew you in your wayward times, 00:32:08.02\00:32:10.43 all of a sudden they see a complete reverse, 00:32:10.46\00:32:15.40 and you're walking in obedience to the Lord 00:32:15.43\00:32:18.57 and the fear of the Lord, 00:32:18.60\00:32:20.87 you've got this piece about you, 00:32:20.90\00:32:22.87 the comfort of the Holy Spirit 00:32:22.90\00:32:25.17 and they go on, "What happened to you?" 00:32:25.21\00:32:29.21 Don't you think that's probably why they multiplied so rapidly? 00:32:29.24\00:32:31.88 Yeah. 00:32:31.91\00:32:33.25 I think they said that about Jesus, didn't they? 00:32:33.28\00:32:35.28 Oh, sure, He didn't come from where we're from. 00:32:35.32\00:32:38.09 He's gotta be somebody else. 00:32:38.12\00:32:40.36 You spared the bench, Ricky. Is that you, Ricky? 00:32:40.39\00:32:44.26 "Does anything good come out of Galilee?" 00:32:44.29\00:32:47.06 Yeah. Yeah. 00:32:47.10\00:32:48.46 But then let's look again at 2 Corinthians 7:1 00:32:48.50\00:32:51.77 'cause if the fear of the Lord keeps us 00:32:51.80\00:32:54.20 walking in His ways, 00:32:54.24\00:32:56.24 what's the ending 00:32:56.27\00:33:00.68 of walking in His ways? 00:33:00.71\00:33:04.05 Cleanse our self 00:33:04.08\00:33:05.71 from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, 00:33:05.75\00:33:09.08 perfecting holiness. 00:33:09.12\00:33:12.75 Yeah. All right. 00:33:12.79\00:33:14.52 Holiness is synonymous with sanctification. 00:33:14.56\00:33:20.43 So both of them just mean to be separated from evil. 00:33:20.46\00:33:26.13 Yeah. 00:33:26.17\00:33:29.27 One of my favorite scriptures about the Sabbath, 00:33:29.30\00:33:32.57 I think of the Sabbath, 00:33:32.61\00:33:34.01 it says that it is a memorial of God 00:33:34.04\00:33:37.28 as our creator, 00:33:37.31\00:33:38.91 but He's the one that's recreating us. 00:33:38.95\00:33:41.55 It is a memorial that He is our redeemer. 00:33:41.58\00:33:45.35 Hallelujah, I could never save myself. 00:33:45.39\00:33:48.89 But Exodus 31:13, God says, 00:33:48.92\00:33:52.96 "Remember the Sabbath. 00:33:52.99\00:33:54.33 It is a sign to you that 00:33:54.36\00:33:57.00 I am the one who sanctifies you." 00:33:57.03\00:34:01.14 I'm telling you what? 00:34:01.17\00:34:03.71 I tried for 50 years to sanctify myself. 00:34:03.74\00:34:09.41 I tried to be a good little girl. 00:34:09.44\00:34:11.88 I did my best 00:34:11.91\00:34:13.45 and fell flat on my face constantly, 00:34:13.48\00:34:16.95 constantly. 00:34:16.99\00:34:18.49 Why? 00:34:18.52\00:34:19.85 I wasn't relying on the power of God. 00:34:19.89\00:34:23.56 But when I realized that God's promise is to sanctify. 00:34:23.59\00:34:28.36 I remember that first Sabbath that I kept, 00:34:28.40\00:34:30.57 it was kind of like exhaled. 00:34:30.60\00:34:34.67 And I celebrated Him in a way 00:34:34.70\00:34:40.01 that I never had before. 00:34:40.04\00:34:42.48 So, but my point here 00:34:42.51\00:34:45.11 is in 2 Corinthians 7: 1, 00:34:45.15\00:34:49.18 this perfecting holiness. 00:34:49.22\00:34:52.45 There's something that we do, isn't there? 00:34:52.49\00:34:56.56 If it says that, let us cleanse ourselves. 00:34:56.59\00:35:01.83 Abstaining from evil. Yeah. 00:35:01.86\00:35:04.43 So this is kind of the idea that Paul said 00:35:04.47\00:35:07.67 in Philippians 2:12, 00:35:07.70\00:35:09.64 where he said, "Work out your own salvation 00:35:09.67\00:35:12.24 with fear and trembling." 00:35:12.27\00:35:13.64 Now, I admit, did that scripture 00:35:13.68\00:35:17.65 ever bother you? 00:35:17.68\00:35:19.01 I never got any further than that. 00:35:19.05\00:35:21.42 My knees knocked and it was like, 00:35:21.45\00:35:23.32 that's why I tried so hard 00:35:23.35\00:35:25.25 is because I was fear and trembling and I didn't. 00:35:25.29\00:35:29.32 One day I'm reading and I don't know how many times 00:35:29.36\00:35:31.76 I read through the New Testament, 00:35:31.79\00:35:33.70 several hundred, 00:35:33.73\00:35:35.06 and all of a sudden verse 13, 00:35:35.10\00:35:37.43 which they should never have been separated. 00:35:37.47\00:35:40.14 When it was written, 00:35:40.17\00:35:41.50 there weren't chapters and verses. 00:35:41.54\00:35:44.27 So Paul says, work out your own salvation 00:35:44.31\00:35:47.98 with fear and trembling, 00:35:48.01\00:35:49.54 but not in your own strength for what? 00:35:49.58\00:35:53.72 It is God who works in you 00:35:53.75\00:35:58.45 to will and to do. 00:35:58.49\00:36:01.52 Two stages. 00:36:01.56\00:36:03.83 Stage one, He changes your will, 00:36:03.86\00:36:07.60 He lines your will up with His discipline? 00:36:07.63\00:36:11.20 Amen. Yeah. 00:36:11.23\00:36:12.67 Does He ever force us to act? 00:36:12.70\00:36:15.74 So for Him to work in us to do 00:36:15.77\00:36:19.27 after He's changed the way we think, 00:36:19.31\00:36:22.94 He's changed the desires of our heart, 00:36:22.98\00:36:26.15 what He asks of us is that we take a step... 00:36:26.18\00:36:31.12 And give Him our will. Yeah. 00:36:31.15\00:36:33.56 But even then, I mean, I don't know. 00:36:33.59\00:36:36.56 Oh Lord, I'm willing to do Your will. 00:36:36.59\00:36:38.86 I'm willing to be made willing. 00:36:38.89\00:36:41.33 Okay. He's making me willing. 00:36:41.36\00:36:43.06 Yep. 00:36:43.10\00:36:44.43 I know how to get off the couch and go exercise. 00:36:44.47\00:36:46.84 Yep. 00:36:46.87\00:36:48.20 I got the will, I need it, 00:36:48.24\00:36:50.97 but you have to actually stand up 00:36:51.01\00:36:53.17 and take a step in faith. 00:36:53.21\00:36:56.11 And then the power of the Holy Spirit shows up 00:36:56.14\00:36:59.95 and He works in us to do. 00:36:59.98\00:37:02.02 Nice. Amen. 00:37:02.05\00:37:03.39 So even obedience is by His grace, isn't it? 00:37:03.42\00:37:09.06 You know, Shelley, you were talking about, 00:37:09.09\00:37:10.56 well, I guess it was Tim talking about 00:37:10.59\00:37:13.03 the consequences of evil 00:37:13.06\00:37:15.33 and the confidence of good being good. 00:37:15.36\00:37:19.27 Well, as I was reading here a while ago, 00:37:19.30\00:37:21.87 when we're talking about a clean conscience, 00:37:21.90\00:37:25.37 that's what we were talking about right here, 00:37:25.41\00:37:27.28 you know in 2 Corinthians 7:1, 00:37:27.31\00:37:30.38 "Let us cleanse ourselves 00:37:30.41\00:37:31.91 from all filthiness perfecting in holiness." 00:37:31.95\00:37:34.48 And also that has to do with that perfect walk 00:37:34.52\00:37:37.79 of getting better. 00:37:37.82\00:37:41.76 You know, when we're talking about perfect, 00:37:41.79\00:37:43.49 that doesn't mean that we become 00:37:43.53\00:37:44.86 automatically perfect. 00:37:44.89\00:37:46.23 It means that it's this walk that we're... 00:37:46.26\00:37:48.10 Maturing. 00:37:48.13\00:37:49.46 Maturing, that's the right, that's exactly the right word. 00:37:49.50\00:37:52.40 So how do we cleanse our conscience? 00:37:52.43\00:37:55.80 Well, first of all, it's step by step 00:37:55.84\00:37:57.64 and it's by going to the Lord in prayer, 00:37:57.67\00:37:59.34 it's our relationship. 00:37:59.37\00:38:00.88 I mean, to me, I mean, 00:38:00.91\00:38:02.24 I love that in life itself from our life here, 00:38:02.28\00:38:05.48 but more specifically is with the Lord is relationship. 00:38:05.51\00:38:08.75 We start right here. 00:38:08.78\00:38:10.59 You don't have to, if you can read, 00:38:10.62\00:38:12.19 that's a good place to start. 00:38:12.22\00:38:13.86 You start, you know, with any place, 00:38:13.89\00:38:15.69 because through the comforter, 00:38:15.72\00:38:17.89 He's going to come 00:38:17.93\00:38:19.26 and He's gonna work on our heart, 00:38:19.29\00:38:20.63 cleanse and let us see 00:38:20.66\00:38:22.00 what we need to see at the right time. 00:38:22.03\00:38:24.20 I was speaking in Texas, pretty big group, anyway, 00:38:24.23\00:38:29.17 I was commenting about the joy of repentance 00:38:29.20\00:38:33.71 and you know, of course, 00:38:33.74\00:38:35.48 people are looking at you, like the joy of repentance. 00:38:35.51\00:38:39.05 So I was going through the steps, 00:38:39.08\00:38:41.15 but 1 John 1:9, 00:38:41.18\00:38:43.39 it's one of my favorite Bible verses. 00:38:43.42\00:38:46.39 It says, "If we confess our sins, 00:38:46.42\00:38:49.42 He is faithful and just to forgive us 00:38:49.46\00:38:53.23 and" what? 00:38:53.26\00:38:54.60 "To cleanse us of all unrighteousness." 00:38:54.63\00:38:58.43 So confession 00:38:58.47\00:39:00.60 is the clearing house of the soul. 00:39:00.64\00:39:03.87 And you know, I made the comment, 00:39:03.91\00:39:06.24 I confess my sins daily, you know, 00:39:06.27\00:39:09.31 so I was talking about like daily repentance, 00:39:09.34\00:39:11.65 and this guy came up to me. 00:39:11.68\00:39:13.25 "Well, you don't understand the salvation of the Lord 00:39:13.28\00:39:16.05 if you're confessing daily." 00:39:16.08\00:39:17.82 And I said, "Do you sin?" 00:39:17.85\00:39:20.76 "Well, yes." 00:39:20.79\00:39:22.22 "Well, if we sin, 00:39:22.26\00:39:23.99 we're supposed to be confessing it." 00:39:24.03\00:39:25.89 And there's something about, 00:39:25.93\00:39:29.26 you know, you can say, oh Lord, forgive us, our sins, 00:39:29.30\00:39:33.00 dah, dah, dah, 00:39:33.03\00:39:35.17 that doesn't register with our heart. 00:39:35.20\00:39:37.57 But if you say, Lord, I made, 00:39:37.61\00:39:40.68 and I said this the other night, 00:39:40.71\00:39:42.48 I was watching someone on TV 00:39:42.51\00:39:44.98 and I made a catty remark to JD about this person. 00:39:45.01\00:39:49.28 It was judgmental kind of a remark. 00:39:49.32\00:39:53.32 And, boy, I'll tell you 00:39:53.36\00:39:54.69 what the Spirit of the Lord was all over me. 00:39:54.72\00:39:56.06 And that night I was like, "Lord, forgive me for. 00:39:56.09\00:39:58.53 I don't wanna be that kind of person." 00:39:58.56\00:40:01.06 And who we are in our home 00:40:01.10\00:40:05.07 is who we are in the eyes of the Lord, is it not? 00:40:05.10\00:40:07.17 Right. 00:40:07.20\00:40:09.64 And that's... Go ahead. 00:40:09.67\00:40:11.01 No, you go. And that is part of our walk. 00:40:11.04\00:40:13.17 You know, that's an important part of our walk, you know. 00:40:13.21\00:40:15.28 And in the same way with our relationships, 00:40:15.31\00:40:17.68 you know, for a husband to a wife, 00:40:17.71\00:40:20.68 when you do something wrong you don't just say, 00:40:20.72\00:40:23.99 "Well, we got married back, you know, 25 years ago. 00:40:24.02\00:40:26.96 So I'm still your husband." 00:40:26.99\00:40:28.69 No, I don't think she's gonna appreciate that. 00:40:28.72\00:40:31.63 You're gonna need to go to her 00:40:31.66\00:40:32.99 and apologize and make it right. 00:40:33.03\00:40:34.70 And make it specific. Yeah, and make it specific. 00:40:34.73\00:40:36.97 Absolutely, to the situation. You know, it's not his... 00:40:37.00\00:40:39.20 Oh, honey, I'm sorry, 00:40:39.23\00:40:40.57 I hurt your feelings or I'm sorry, I hurt you. 00:40:40.60\00:40:41.94 Yeah. 00:40:41.97\00:40:43.30 It's like, do you understand why you hurt me? 00:40:43.34\00:40:46.14 So you have to kind of be specific. 00:40:46.17\00:40:47.84 Yeah. And to turn from it. 00:40:47.88\00:40:49.71 Right. Of course. That's the repentance. 00:40:49.74\00:40:51.81 That's to go back doing that again. 00:40:51.85\00:40:53.92 You had to throw that in. 00:40:53.95\00:40:55.28 It takes me back a long time ago. 00:40:55.32\00:40:57.19 You know, I had this farmer friend, 00:40:57.22\00:40:58.59 I still have this former friend and his wife, 00:40:58.62\00:41:02.52 they've been married probably for about 15 years. 00:41:02.56\00:41:04.69 Let's just say, 00:41:04.73\00:41:06.06 whenever I'm telling this story originally, 00:41:06.09\00:41:07.56 I heard it originally. 00:41:07.60\00:41:09.10 And every night she says, I love you, honey. 00:41:09.13\00:41:14.00 He didn't say anything. 00:41:14.04\00:41:15.50 And she'd just tell him all through the day. 00:41:15.54\00:41:17.31 You know, I love you. I love you. 00:41:17.34\00:41:18.67 And he never would say anything. 00:41:18.71\00:41:20.24 "Do you not love me anymore?" 00:41:20.28\00:41:22.48 "Well, I married you, didn't I?" 00:41:22.51\00:41:25.75 And she says, honey, that's been so long ago. 00:41:25.78\00:41:28.68 Says, I don't remember even how you proposed. 00:41:28.72\00:41:32.35 "Well, I do." 00:41:32.39\00:41:33.89 And he says, "I remember I got this place, 00:41:33.92\00:41:37.06 I cleaned it up real nice. 00:41:37.09\00:41:38.43 I had a two car garage and I asked you 00:41:38.46\00:41:40.63 if you wanted your car to share garage." 00:41:40.66\00:41:45.77 Wow. Yeah. 00:41:45.80\00:41:47.57 But you know, that's almost attitude 00:41:47.60\00:41:49.74 that some people take towards God. 00:41:49.77\00:41:51.67 Well, I said a prayer. 00:41:51.71\00:41:54.74 And so He's my Lord. 00:41:54.78\00:41:56.18 He's my savior. 00:41:56.21\00:41:57.55 But they never made Him Lord or acknowledge Him as Father. 00:41:57.58\00:42:01.32 Yeah. 00:42:01.35\00:42:02.68 But I was talking about being woke up 00:42:02.72\00:42:04.22 is that's what you were saying. 00:42:04.25\00:42:05.59 You know, some people don't like, 00:42:05.62\00:42:06.96 and boy, he caught on. 00:42:06.99\00:42:08.59 Yeah. He caught on, he heard. 00:42:08.62\00:42:12.33 And so from then on, 00:42:12.36\00:42:13.70 he started, she'd say, I love you. 00:42:13.73\00:42:15.43 And even once in a while, he'd say, I love you first. 00:42:15.46\00:42:18.73 But he caught on, he just had missed that day in school. 00:42:18.77\00:42:21.70 Yeah. That's crazy. 00:42:21.74\00:42:23.91 Okay. 00:42:23.94\00:42:25.27 So, so far we know the benefits of fearing the Lord, 00:42:25.31\00:42:29.54 we will not depart from the Lord. 00:42:29.58\00:42:32.55 The fear of the Lord brings wisdom. 00:42:32.58\00:42:36.82 The fear of the Lord keeps us walking in His way. 00:42:36.85\00:42:42.76 And the fourth one is God takes 00:42:42.79\00:42:46.90 pleasure in those who fear Him. 00:42:46.93\00:42:49.50 JD, you want to give us a couple of scriptures on that? 00:42:49.53\00:42:51.97 Kind of, where is that Shelley? 00:42:52.00\00:42:53.37 Number four, God takes pleasure... 00:42:53.40\00:42:55.50 Okay. Yes. 00:42:55.54\00:42:56.87 So, yes. 00:42:56.91\00:42:59.74 Let's look at Malachi 3... 00:42:59.77\00:43:01.78 Go ahead and start with the Psalms I would say. 00:43:01.81\00:43:03.35 Okay. Psalms 147:11. 00:43:03.38\00:43:05.48 Thank you, Shelley. 00:43:05.51\00:43:06.85 "The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him 00:43:06.88\00:43:10.02 and those who hope in His mercy." 00:43:10.05\00:43:12.35 Stop once again, the juxtaposition. 00:43:12.39\00:43:14.32 Right. 00:43:14.36\00:43:15.69 Those who fear Him have hope in His mercy. 00:43:15.72\00:43:20.80 So I love, you see because it, 00:43:20.83\00:43:25.67 have you ever seen like an old fashioned Western 00:43:25.70\00:43:30.44 where there's some preacher coming to them, "Fear God!" 00:43:30.47\00:43:35.34 You know and it's like, 00:43:35.38\00:43:37.65 they wanna beat people over the head. 00:43:37.68\00:43:39.41 And some parents do that to the children. 00:43:39.45\00:43:42.48 They have this idea that they're gonna beat 00:43:42.52\00:43:45.22 their kids over the head with the Bible 00:43:45.25\00:43:48.62 to get them to love the Lord or to fear Him. 00:43:48.66\00:43:51.29 You know what I say? 00:43:51.33\00:43:52.66 Tim, you'll like this one. 00:43:52.69\00:43:54.06 You can't beat somebody over the head 00:43:54.10\00:43:57.20 with a fiddle to convince them how beautiful the music is. 00:43:57.23\00:44:00.67 Right. Exactly, that's good. 00:44:00.70\00:44:03.20 So this is something that 00:44:03.24\00:44:05.54 we've got to teach our kids to have a relationship 00:44:05.57\00:44:08.68 with the Lord, 00:44:08.71\00:44:10.05 but here God takes pleasure in those who fear Him. 00:44:10.08\00:44:15.88 But those who fear Him have hope in His mercy. 00:44:15.92\00:44:20.12 What a beautiful, fear of the Lord 00:44:20.16\00:44:22.79 is a multifaceted diamond. 00:44:22.82\00:44:24.96 Okay. 00:44:24.99\00:44:26.33 And then we also read in Malachi 3:16-17, 00:44:26.36\00:44:30.80 "Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another 00:44:30.83\00:44:34.17 and the Lord listened and heard them. 00:44:34.20\00:44:37.24 So a book of remembrance was written before him, 00:44:37.27\00:44:40.38 for those who fear the Lord 00:44:40.41\00:44:42.44 and who meditate on his name, 00:44:42.48\00:44:45.31 they shall be mine says the Lord of hosts. 00:44:45.35\00:44:48.28 And on the day that I make them my jewels 00:44:48.32\00:44:50.92 and I spare them as a man spares his own son 00:44:50.95\00:44:54.36 who serves Him." 00:44:54.39\00:44:56.69 Amen. I love that picture. 00:44:56.73\00:44:58.43 What a great picture that He has, 00:44:58.46\00:45:00.36 a book of remembrance that He is keeping our names in. 00:45:00.40\00:45:03.80 Amen. 00:45:03.83\00:45:05.17 You know, they're talking about me today. 00:45:05.20\00:45:06.53 Amen. Yeah. 00:45:06.57\00:45:07.90 I mean, really. Yeah. 00:45:07.94\00:45:09.27 Really just an awesome thing. 00:45:09.30\00:45:10.64 Sometimes, that will hit me 00:45:10.67\00:45:12.01 as I'm on a conversation with somebody 00:45:12.04\00:45:14.21 and I'll think, ah, 00:45:14.24\00:45:15.64 the recording angel is writing this down. 00:45:15.68\00:45:18.95 But, Ricky, you know a lot of the kids' songs. 00:45:18.98\00:45:21.82 Isn't there a song about the precious jewels 00:45:21.85\00:45:27.22 that I don't remember how that goes, 00:45:27.26\00:45:30.46 but I think that's so neat that God 00:45:30.49\00:45:33.26 is saying those who fear Him 00:45:33.29\00:45:35.46 and meditate on His name, He will make them His jewels. 00:45:35.50\00:45:40.47 Yes. 00:45:40.50\00:45:41.84 And what caught my attention is that, 00:45:41.87\00:45:44.51 and the Lord listened and He heard them. 00:45:44.54\00:45:48.84 Yeah. I mean, that's very important. 00:45:48.88\00:45:53.55 There's someone that will actually listen to you 00:45:53.58\00:45:56.28 and in listing not just goes over your head, 00:45:56.32\00:45:58.99 but actually heard them. 00:45:59.02\00:46:00.82 And then, because he didn't wanna, 00:46:00.86\00:46:02.72 and I'm certainly not pointing fingers here, 00:46:02.76\00:46:04.99 but this is just bringing it down to her. 00:46:05.03\00:46:07.00 He didn't wanna make a mistake in the book of remembrance. 00:46:07.03\00:46:10.80 So He was listening and He was hearing, 00:46:10.83\00:46:13.20 He was looking at their heart. Amen. 00:46:13.23\00:46:15.50 But it's neat that it's saying, 00:46:15.54\00:46:17.74 "Those who feared the Lord spoke to one another." 00:46:17.77\00:46:21.04 Do you suppose it was like, oh, oh, oh. 00:46:21.08\00:46:23.45 Oh, oh. 00:46:23.48\00:46:24.81 No, God doesn't take pleasure in that. 00:46:24.85\00:46:27.02 Testifying to each other. Yes. Yeah. 00:46:27.05\00:46:29.02 Guess what the Lord did for me today. 00:46:29.05\00:46:31.25 I love that. That's the way it should be. 00:46:31.29\00:46:33.46 He was meditating on his name, thinking about His goodness. 00:46:33.49\00:46:38.13 I love that. They shall be mine. 00:46:38.16\00:46:40.66 Yeah. Okay. 00:46:40.70\00:46:42.03 So God takes pleasure in those who fear Him. 00:46:42.06\00:46:45.93 Tim, what's our next point? 00:46:45.97\00:46:48.00 He accepts, God accepts those who fear Him. 00:46:48.04\00:46:51.17 Accepts. 00:46:51.21\00:46:52.54 In Acts 10:34-35, 00:46:52.57\00:46:54.48 we read what Peter said, 00:46:54.51\00:46:56.21 "In truth I perceive 00:46:56.24\00:46:58.11 that God shows no partiality, 00:46:58.15\00:47:00.98 but in every nation, 00:47:01.02\00:47:02.52 whoever fears Him and works righteousness 00:47:02.55\00:47:05.25 is accepted by Him." 00:47:05.29\00:47:07.22 Now that's interesting 00:47:07.26\00:47:08.59 'cause that's not necessarily a juxtaposition 00:47:08.62\00:47:12.79 because to fear the Lord is to work righteousness. 00:47:12.83\00:47:15.56 Right. 00:47:15.60\00:47:16.93 What does work righteousness mean? 00:47:16.97\00:47:19.40 Right living, right doing. 00:47:19.43\00:47:20.77 Right doing, it's walking in His ways 00:47:20.80\00:47:24.41 obeying the Lord, isn't it? 00:47:24.44\00:47:26.07 I say if you love me, you'll do my commandments. 00:47:26.11\00:47:28.18 If you fear Him, works righteousness. 00:47:28.21\00:47:29.71 Amen. 00:47:29.74\00:47:31.35 And Psalm 112:1, "Praise the Lord. 00:47:31.38\00:47:34.68 Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, 00:47:34.72\00:47:36.65 who delights greatly in His commandments." 00:47:36.69\00:47:39.35 So that's almost like 00:47:39.39\00:47:40.82 a definition of fearing the Lord 00:47:40.86\00:47:43.16 is to delight in His commandments. 00:47:43.19\00:47:45.89 Absolutely. Yeah. 00:47:45.93\00:47:47.26 And one more. Oh, you have something? 00:47:47.30\00:47:48.63 Go ahead. 00:47:48.66\00:47:50.00 Well, you know, it says blessed is the man. 00:47:50.03\00:47:52.67 And so in other words, that person could be generous. 00:47:52.70\00:47:56.24 He could be supportive. 00:47:56.27\00:47:57.87 You know, he just might be compassionate. 00:47:57.91\00:48:01.91 He trusted in the Lord, blessed. 00:48:01.94\00:48:03.75 It says, blessed is the man not blessed... 00:48:03.78\00:48:08.75 They will be blessed. 00:48:08.78\00:48:10.12 It says blessed is. 00:48:10.15\00:48:11.49 Right. Yeah. 00:48:11.52\00:48:12.85 It's existing blessing. Amen. 00:48:12.89\00:48:15.86 Luke 1:50, "His mercy is on those who fear Him 00:48:15.89\00:48:20.90 from generation to generation." 00:48:20.93\00:48:23.33 So that does sound like a juxtaposition, 00:48:23.37\00:48:26.90 but I don't think it is. 00:48:26.94\00:48:28.27 I mean, it's those who fear God... 00:48:28.30\00:48:30.61 That's the consequences in a good thing. 00:48:30.64\00:48:32.61 A good way. Mercy. 00:48:32.64\00:48:34.28 We can have confidence 00:48:34.31\00:48:37.41 that God does have mercy. 00:48:37.45\00:48:41.18 That's right. 00:48:41.22\00:48:42.55 So, Ricky, what's the sixth benefit. 00:48:42.58\00:48:46.42 God hears the cry of those who fear Him, saves them. 00:48:46.45\00:48:52.39 And in Psalms 103: 11-14 says, 00:48:52.43\00:48:58.63 "For as the heavens are high above the earth, 00:48:58.67\00:49:01.70 so great is the mercy toward those who fear Him. 00:49:01.74\00:49:07.08 As far as the east is from the west 00:49:07.11\00:49:10.58 so far has He removed our transgressions from us 00:49:10.61\00:49:15.85 as a father pities his children, 00:49:15.88\00:49:20.22 so the Lord pities those who fear Him, 00:49:20.26\00:49:25.19 for He knows our frame. 00:49:25.23\00:49:28.23 He remembers that we are dust." 00:49:28.26\00:49:31.43 I love that. 00:49:31.47\00:49:32.80 That's such a beautiful verse. 00:49:32.83\00:49:34.44 Let's break it down. 00:49:34.47\00:49:37.11 As the heavens are high above the earth, here we go. 00:49:37.14\00:49:41.14 His mercy is on those who fear Him. 00:49:41.18\00:49:44.71 I don't know about you, 00:49:44.75\00:49:46.08 but I'll take all the mercy I can get from God. 00:49:46.11\00:49:49.42 Well, according to the experts, that's a long ways up 00:49:49.45\00:49:54.26 and they say this is the third heaven 00:49:54.29\00:49:55.62 we're talking about... 00:49:55.66\00:49:56.99 Yeah, as far as the heavens. 00:49:57.03\00:49:58.43 That's a lot of mercy. That's a lot of mercy. 00:49:58.46\00:50:02.16 That's good. 00:50:02.20\00:50:04.03 But then as far as the east is from the west 00:50:04.07\00:50:07.44 and east never beats the west, does it? 00:50:07.47\00:50:08.97 Right. Keep going. 00:50:09.00\00:50:10.37 So far has He removed our transgressions. 00:50:10.41\00:50:14.88 He's thrown our sin. 00:50:14.91\00:50:16.58 When we confess before the Lord, 00:50:16.61\00:50:19.15 He throws those into the sea... 00:50:19.18\00:50:22.88 And forgets them. Right. 00:50:22.92\00:50:24.25 Yeah. Isn't that... 00:50:24.29\00:50:25.75 And we are the only one that brings it up. 00:50:25.79\00:50:27.56 Yeah. 00:50:27.59\00:50:28.92 You know, here's an interesting study 00:50:28.96\00:50:30.99 'cause this was really fascinating. 00:50:31.03\00:50:32.63 A friend of mine said, 00:50:32.66\00:50:34.06 I don't believe God ever forgets anything. 00:50:34.10\00:50:36.06 So I started studying this. 00:50:36.10\00:50:38.63 When like in Exodus 4, 00:50:38.67\00:50:40.97 when it says that God heard the cries 00:50:41.00\00:50:45.57 of the children of Israel 00:50:45.61\00:50:48.28 that were in Egypt, He heard their cries 00:50:48.31\00:50:52.28 and it says He remembered His covenant with Abraham, 00:50:52.31\00:50:56.75 Isaac and Jacob. 00:50:56.79\00:50:59.19 The word there remembered means to act upon. 00:50:59.22\00:51:04.56 When God forgets something, He doesn't act on it. 00:51:04.59\00:51:10.37 When He remembers something, He acts on it. 00:51:10.40\00:51:14.70 Right. 00:51:14.74\00:51:16.07 So I just think that's so precious. 00:51:16.10\00:51:19.01 That is really precious. Yeah. 00:51:19.04\00:51:20.81 So He's removed our sins, He forgets they're blotted out. 00:51:20.84\00:51:25.01 He's not acting on that sin. 00:51:25.05\00:51:26.98 He's not senile. He's not forgetful. 00:51:27.02\00:51:29.28 He has the ability to remember. 00:51:29.32\00:51:31.45 He chooses not to remember our sins against us. 00:51:31.49\00:51:33.46 Yeah. 00:51:33.49\00:51:34.82 He says for my own sake, I will forget your sins. 00:51:34.86\00:51:37.89 And that's a lesson we all should learn. 00:51:37.93\00:51:39.63 Amen. Amen. 00:51:39.66\00:51:41.76 But then as a father pities his children, 00:51:41.80\00:51:45.47 so the Lord pities those who fear Him. 00:51:45.50\00:51:50.61 He remembers He's our creator. 00:51:50.64\00:51:53.14 He knows He made us out of dust. 00:51:53.17\00:51:56.11 Dust we are to dust we return. 00:51:56.14\00:51:58.61 And you know, sometimes when I'm praying, 00:51:58.65\00:52:01.05 I'll say, "Lord, 00:52:01.08\00:52:02.42 thank You that you remember I'm but dust." 00:52:02.45\00:52:04.79 Right, exactly. Yes. 00:52:04.82\00:52:06.22 Thank you that though 00:52:06.25\00:52:07.59 I fall seven times you pick me up. 00:52:07.62\00:52:11.03 I often will say, you know, well, I'm human. 00:52:11.06\00:52:14.16 You know, well, that's God's excuse, not ours. 00:52:14.20\00:52:17.87 He made us, He remembers that we're dust. 00:52:17.90\00:52:20.37 Amen. JD, what about Psalms 145? 00:52:20.40\00:52:24.54 First thing that jumps up. 00:52:24.57\00:52:25.91 Well, not the first thing, 00:52:25.94\00:52:27.28 it's one thing that jumps out on that Psalms 145:18-20, 00:52:27.31\00:52:31.71 He's listened all the times. 00:52:31.75\00:52:33.08 He says all, we're part of that all. 00:52:33.11\00:52:36.32 "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him 00:52:36.35\00:52:39.55 to all who call upon Him in truth. 00:52:39.59\00:52:42.52 He will fulfill the desires of those who fear Him. 00:52:42.56\00:52:45.93 He will also hear their cry and save them. 00:52:45.96\00:52:48.96 The Lord preserved all who loves Him, 00:52:49.00\00:52:53.50 but all the wicked He will destroy." 00:52:53.54\00:52:57.97 It's about as straight to the point as you can get. 00:52:58.01\00:53:02.31 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him. 00:53:02.34\00:53:07.82 Who honor Him. Here's our cry. 00:53:07.85\00:53:10.79 He fulfills our desire. I think that's so precious. 00:53:10.82\00:53:14.82 So let me just kind of sum up here. 00:53:14.86\00:53:17.83 And I have to look back through my notes. 00:53:17.86\00:53:20.90 We started off very quickly 00:53:20.93\00:53:24.23 talking about what God said, "Do not fear." 00:53:24.27\00:53:28.10 There He's referring to, 00:53:28.14\00:53:30.37 "Don't fear, man, look to Me as your source, 00:53:30.41\00:53:33.78 look to me as your sufficiency 00:53:33.81\00:53:37.65 and you don't have to panic." 00:53:37.68\00:53:39.81 So in that sense, God saying don't fear. 00:53:39.85\00:53:43.39 But then we see that 00:53:43.42\00:53:46.19 there is wisdom in fearing the Lord. 00:53:46.22\00:53:50.23 The benefits of fearing God, this is a covenant loyalty. 00:53:50.26\00:53:54.76 One, if we fear the Lord, 00:53:54.80\00:53:57.53 we will not depart from the Lord. 00:53:57.57\00:53:59.67 And I love your consequences. 00:53:59.70\00:54:02.37 If we don't fear the Lord, 00:54:02.40\00:54:04.07 God says, "Hey, you're backsliding. 00:54:04.11\00:54:06.64 So I'm gonna rebuke you." 00:54:06.68\00:54:08.04 I mean, it is our consequences that are rebuking to us. 00:54:08.08\00:54:12.95 But as you said, there's consequences 00:54:12.98\00:54:15.68 but if we fear the Lord, there's confidence to Him. 00:54:15.72\00:54:19.45 I love that. 00:54:19.49\00:54:20.96 And then the second benefit 00:54:20.99\00:54:22.89 is the fear of the Lord brings wisdom. 00:54:22.92\00:54:26.76 If you're living in a redemption, 00:54:26.80\00:54:29.33 a redemptive relationship with the Lord, 00:54:29.36\00:54:32.17 there should be this reverential awe, 00:54:32.20\00:54:36.17 at least that is for me to think how God saved me 00:54:36.20\00:54:39.81 and what He's doing. 00:54:39.84\00:54:41.28 The fear of the Lord keeps us walking in His ways, 00:54:41.31\00:54:45.88 for the fear of the Lord, 00:54:45.91\00:54:48.42 our God takes pleasure in those who fear Him. 00:54:48.45\00:54:52.99 Five, God accepts those who fear Him. 00:54:53.02\00:54:58.56 Six, God hears the cry of those who fear Him. 00:54:58.59\00:55:03.87 And He saves them. 00:55:03.90\00:55:05.57 He fulfills the desire of their hearts. 00:55:05.60\00:55:08.40 So can you think of a biblical example? 00:55:08.44\00:55:12.44 Why are we talking about this tonight? 00:55:12.47\00:55:15.04 There are some people 00:55:15.08\00:55:16.41 who think, "Oh, we're saved by grace, 00:55:16.44\00:55:17.78 we don't have to worry about obedience." 00:55:17.81\00:55:20.05 But can you think of a biblical example, Tim, 00:55:20.08\00:55:23.82 where someone knew the Lord, 00:55:23.85\00:55:27.92 walked in His ways 00:55:27.96\00:55:31.16 and then turned away 00:55:31.19\00:55:34.30 because of pressure? 00:55:34.33\00:55:36.40 I believe the Old Testament talks about that. 00:55:36.43\00:55:40.70 Aaron, Moses' brother who was a spokesman 00:55:40.74\00:55:46.01 for Moses on behalf of Moses all the things 00:55:46.04\00:55:50.31 that they went through and the children of Israel, 00:55:50.35\00:55:52.78 the plagues they saw God's hand moved. 00:55:52.81\00:55:55.38 And then once the, 00:55:55.42\00:55:57.12 they saw the angel pass over the houses 00:55:57.15\00:56:01.59 and then going through the wilderness 00:56:01.62\00:56:04.59 and the dry land and bitter water into sweet 00:56:04.63\00:56:07.93 and Aaron's rod turned into a serpent, 00:56:07.96\00:56:10.67 all the things that 00:56:10.70\00:56:12.03 he actually saw God move on their behalf. 00:56:12.07\00:56:15.30 And then He turned by, took, putting all, 00:56:15.34\00:56:19.14 melting all the gold into an idol 00:56:19.17\00:56:23.28 while Moses was up receiving a word from God. 00:56:23.31\00:56:25.65 So here's Aaron, who was a pretty cool dude. 00:56:25.68\00:56:31.62 He was a man of God, 00:56:31.65\00:56:34.62 but he let peer pressure get to him. 00:56:34.66\00:56:37.36 Please don't ever let peer pressure 00:56:37.39\00:56:39.46 cause you to walk away from the Lord. 00:56:39.49\00:56:41.60 Here's the last point we want to make. 00:56:41.63\00:56:44.53 We need to pray for the fear of the Lord. 00:56:44.57\00:56:46.84 And let me give you David's prayer. 00:56:46.87\00:56:48.87 Psalm 86:10-13, David's praying. 00:56:48.90\00:56:53.21 And he says, "You are great, you do wondrous things, oh God, 00:56:53.24\00:56:57.65 you alone are God. 00:56:57.68\00:56:59.71 Teach me Your way, oh Lord. 00:56:59.75\00:57:04.02 I will walk in your truth. 00:57:04.05\00:57:05.72 Unite my heart to fear Your name. 00:57:05.75\00:57:10.13 I will praise You, 00:57:10.16\00:57:11.86 oh, Lord my God with all my heart, 00:57:11.89\00:57:14.26 I will glorify Your name forever more, 00:57:14.30\00:57:18.27 for great is your mercy toward me. 00:57:18.30\00:57:20.70 And you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol." 00:57:20.74\00:57:26.64 Amen. Our time is all gone. 00:57:26.68\00:57:28.01 We love you. 00:57:28.04\00:57:29.38 Thank you guys so much for joining us. 00:57:29.41\00:57:31.25 Our prayer for those of you 00:57:31.28\00:57:32.71 at home is that the grace of our Lord 00:57:32.75\00:57:34.82 and Savior Jesus Christ, 00:57:34.85\00:57:36.18 the love of the Father 00:57:36.22\00:57:37.55 and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit 00:57:37.59\00:57:39.32 will be with you always. 00:57:39.35\00:57:41.32
