That's not, He allows them. 00:06:15.74\00:06:18.57 He allows these trials, 00:06:18.61\00:06:21.04 so that we can grow and change and become somebody different. 00:06:21.08\00:06:25.65 That's right. 00:06:25.68\00:06:27.02 The good news is, 00:06:27.05\00:06:28.38 is what I like about the study tonight, 00:06:28.42\00:06:30.35 is there is an option. 00:06:30.39\00:06:32.69 Beautifully said, there is an option. 00:06:32.72\00:06:34.66 There is an option. 00:06:34.69\00:06:36.19 If you want to just be satisfied and happy 00:06:36.22\00:06:39.66 wallering around. 00:06:39.69\00:06:41.06 In that particular situation you can, that is an option, 00:06:41.10\00:06:45.03 but there is an out. 00:06:45.07\00:06:46.40 Right. 00:06:46.43\00:06:47.77 And the out is through Jesus Christ. 00:06:47.80\00:06:49.90 I mean, I... 00:06:49.94\00:06:51.34 This is a great study for me, 00:06:51.37\00:06:53.48 because you hear about these things. 00:06:53.51\00:06:55.31 But I don't know if I ever connected the dots 00:06:55.34\00:06:57.28 the way you've connected the dots 00:06:57.31\00:06:59.21 by putting together a syllabus. 00:06:59.25\00:07:00.75 So this is going to be fun. 00:07:00.78\00:07:02.68 Well, let's start with... 00:07:02.72\00:07:04.05 Jesus is a better choice. 00:07:04.09\00:07:05.65 Always. That's right. 00:07:05.69\00:07:07.06 And once again, I just kind of go back to Maya Angelou, 00:07:07.09\00:07:10.29 this is not necessarily one that she wrote down. 00:07:10.33\00:07:12.59 But she was being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey 00:07:12.63\00:07:14.23 a number of years ago, at least easily 10 or more years ago. 00:07:14.26\00:07:17.67 And Maya and Oprah said, 00:07:17.70\00:07:19.60 "What do you do when trials come your way?" 00:07:19.63\00:07:21.47 She said, 00:07:21.50\00:07:22.84 "Well, I just tell you this. 00:07:22.87\00:07:25.01 If God allows it, 00:07:25.04\00:07:26.37 what's on the other side of this 00:07:26.41\00:07:27.74 has to be a whole lot better 00:07:27.78\00:07:29.11 than I have right now." 00:07:29.14\00:07:31.55 And that was a moment I never forgot. 00:07:31.58\00:07:33.35 It wasn't a quote, she wrote down. 00:07:33.38\00:07:34.95 It wasn't in any of her books. 00:07:34.98\00:07:36.65 But those of you that are watching the program, 00:07:36.69\00:07:38.69 there may be somebody right now, 00:07:38.72\00:07:40.82 that might have turned on and say, 00:07:40.86\00:07:42.82 "I'm going to listen to this program 00:07:42.86\00:07:44.29 because I'm in my storm right now." 00:07:44.33\00:07:47.03 So let's go ahead and start with the passage in the Bible. 00:07:47.06\00:07:49.33 Honey, why don't you begin with the first one, John 16:33. 00:07:49.36\00:07:52.60 You know, there's a reality about trials. 00:07:52.63\00:07:54.60 What is the reality about trials? 00:07:54.64\00:07:58.14 There's something about this life 00:07:58.17\00:07:59.81 that we just can't seem to drive down a street 00:07:59.84\00:08:04.25 that will never have a trial. 00:08:04.28\00:08:06.05 And Lord made something clear about the reality of trials. 00:08:06.08\00:08:08.42 Let start with that one, honey. 00:08:08.45\00:08:09.78 Okay, John 16:33. 00:08:09.82\00:08:12.12 This is Jesus speaking, 00:08:12.15\00:08:13.76 "These things I have spoken to you, 00:08:13.79\00:08:16.49 that in Me, which is Jesus, you may have peace. 00:08:16.52\00:08:21.86 In the world you will have tribulation," 00:08:21.90\00:08:26.30 I love the but, 00:08:26.33\00:08:28.17 "but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." 00:08:28.20\00:08:31.74 And also have a little blue box I want to read. 00:08:31.77\00:08:33.38 Okay, sure. 00:08:33.41\00:08:34.74 In verse 33, from Desire of Ages, 00:08:34.78\00:08:36.38 page 122 and 123, it's real short. 00:08:36.41\00:08:39.95 It says, 00:08:39.98\00:08:41.32 "By passing over the ground, 00:08:41.35\00:08:43.49 which man must travel, 00:08:43.52\00:08:45.42 our Lord has prepared the way for us to overcome. 00:08:45.45\00:08:50.79 It is not His will that we should be placed 00:08:50.83\00:08:54.46 at a disadvantage in the conflict with Satan. 00:08:54.50\00:08:58.83 He would not have us intimidated and discouraged 00:08:58.87\00:09:04.17 by the assaults of the serpent." 00:09:04.21\00:09:07.21 Wow. So we do have trials? Yeah. 00:09:07.24\00:09:09.74 But what does good cheer look like 00:09:09.78\00:09:12.51 in the middle of a trial? 00:09:12.55\00:09:13.88 Okay, well just throw that out. 00:09:13.92\00:09:15.25 If the Lord has prepared the way for us to overcome. 00:09:15.28\00:09:17.75 True, He's kind of as JD said there's an option. 00:09:17.79\00:09:21.96 There's, yeah, a choice. 00:09:21.99\00:09:23.32 Shelley? 00:09:23.36\00:09:24.69 I was just, I did a word search in the Greek on tribulation. 00:09:24.73\00:09:29.13 You know what it means? 00:09:29.16\00:09:30.70 Tribulation, 00:09:30.73\00:09:32.07 the primary definition is pressing, 00:09:32.10\00:09:37.54 pressure, like you would press out an olive 00:09:37.57\00:09:40.78 in the, you know, get the oil out of the olive, 00:09:40.81\00:09:43.28 or that you would press the grape juice 00:09:43.31\00:09:46.18 from the grape. 00:09:46.21\00:09:47.55 And I thought ain't that interesting 00:09:47.58\00:09:48.92 because that's really what Gethsemane is 00:09:48.95\00:09:51.15 was the olive press. 00:09:51.19\00:09:54.36 So I think that 00:09:54.39\00:09:56.12 and we'll see as we go through tribulations. 00:09:56.16\00:10:00.26 God puts good things in us. 00:10:00.30\00:10:01.96 And as we come under the pressure 00:10:02.00\00:10:05.73 of what's coming out of us is the goodness of God, 00:10:05.77\00:10:09.70 if we're learning our truth, 00:10:09.74\00:10:11.64 that's how we are of good cheer. 00:10:11.67\00:10:13.64 I like that. I like that too. 00:10:13.68\00:10:15.08 Because, you know, sometimes we never know our potentials 00:10:15.11\00:10:17.21 till we put in the position 00:10:17.25\00:10:18.58 where we got to do something differently 00:10:18.61\00:10:20.65 than we've continued to do all the time. 00:10:20.68\00:10:22.92 And you know, the saying 00:10:22.95\00:10:24.29 insanity is doing the same thing over and over 00:10:24.32\00:10:26.49 expecting different results. 00:10:26.52\00:10:28.12 But that's true, JD. 00:10:28.16\00:10:29.52 So why don't you share with us 1 Peter 4:12-13. 00:10:29.56\00:10:34.66 And then let's look at that, 00:10:34.70\00:10:36.03 to find out why trials are really not unique. 00:10:36.06\00:10:38.50 You know, they're really not. 00:10:38.53\00:10:39.93 That's 1 Peter 4:12-13, 00:10:39.97\00:10:42.80 "Beloved, do not think it strange 00:10:42.84\00:10:47.24 concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, 00:10:47.28\00:10:52.15 as though some strange thing happened to you, 00:10:52.18\00:10:55.78 but rejoice to the extent 00:10:55.82\00:10:57.75 that you partake of Christ's suffering, 00:10:57.79\00:11:00.02 that when His glory is revealed, 00:11:00.06\00:11:01.66 you may also be glad with exceeding joy." 00:11:01.69\00:11:06.03 Wow. 00:11:06.06\00:11:07.40 So it's not strange. 00:11:07.43\00:11:08.76 It is not strange. 00:11:08.80\00:11:10.23 Well, I think I go back 00:11:10.27\00:11:12.00 to the very first one you said about, 00:11:12.03\00:11:13.64 and it says that in Me, that's with the capital M. 00:11:13.67\00:11:18.21 So in Him whoever that is, we choose that is Jesus Christ. 00:11:18.24\00:11:23.14 So in Him, He has given you an alternate path. 00:11:23.18\00:11:27.35 It's kind of like, you know, 00:11:27.38\00:11:28.72 you come down to a T in the road, 00:11:28.75\00:11:30.09 do you go to the right or the left 00:11:30.12\00:11:31.45 and never been down this road before. 00:11:31.49\00:11:33.25 Well, I choose to believe that the Holy Spirit 00:11:33.29\00:11:35.29 will impress upon my heart present, 00:11:35.32\00:11:38.76 that I will go to the right or to the left, 00:11:38.79\00:11:41.60 I will make that choice. 00:11:41.63\00:11:43.16 And so that's the team that I want to be on. 00:11:43.20\00:11:45.43 Amen. 00:11:45.47\00:11:46.80 And so here, it's saying right here, but so he says, 00:11:46.84\00:11:49.44 "Hey, I know that there's going to be 00:11:49.47\00:11:51.24 there's going to be a lot of trials, 00:11:51.27\00:11:52.74 you're going to come to some dead ends, 00:11:52.77\00:11:54.18 and you're going to have to make a decision." 00:11:54.21\00:11:57.31 Now, our good friend, Joe Bryan, 00:11:57.35\00:11:59.75 he uses this term all the time, it's biblical, 00:11:59.78\00:12:02.05 the fiery darts are coming toward us, 00:12:02.08\00:12:03.95 the fiery darts are coming towards. 00:12:03.99\00:12:05.92 Here, we're talking about fiery trial, 00:12:05.95\00:12:07.92 which is to try you. 00:12:07.96\00:12:10.03 That's that strange 00:12:10.06\00:12:11.39 that strangeness is going to come after us at all time. 00:12:11.43\00:12:13.96 But we go back to that M, that capital M, Jesus. 00:12:14.00\00:12:18.90 And He says, 00:12:18.93\00:12:20.27 "Hey, yes, you're going to have 00:12:20.30\00:12:22.27 to go through some of this stuff, 00:12:22.30\00:12:23.74 but rejoice because 00:12:23.77\00:12:26.98 you're going to come out on the other side 00:12:27.01\00:12:28.34 without smelling like smoke." 00:12:28.38\00:12:30.18 Amen. 00:12:30.21\00:12:32.05 I like that. That's right. 00:12:32.08\00:12:33.52 You know, Rome, 00:12:33.55\00:12:34.95 had probably just been burned when Peter wrote this. 00:12:34.98\00:12:38.35 And there was a 200 period of persecution, 00:12:38.39\00:12:41.52 year period of persecution of the Christians. 00:12:41.56\00:12:44.66 And I mean, they were severely persecuted. 00:12:44.69\00:12:47.93 But what I like about this, is it applies to us as well. 00:12:47.96\00:12:52.07 When a trial comes our way, we should just expect trials, 00:12:52.10\00:12:55.47 but we evaluate them and trust them to God, 00:12:55.50\00:12:59.47 and rejoice in what He's going to do. 00:12:59.51\00:13:01.41 Amen. 00:13:01.44\00:13:02.94 Dee? 00:13:02.98\00:13:04.31 To me the good cheer and the rejoicing 00:13:04.35\00:13:06.31 is something more internal. 00:13:06.35\00:13:10.25 I couldn't, sometimes when you're in the trial, 00:13:10.29\00:13:13.99 if it's painful, 00:13:14.02\00:13:15.36 you, your outwardly may not seem joyful, 00:13:15.39\00:13:19.46 it should appear peaceful, but it may not seem joyful. 00:13:19.49\00:13:24.03 And you may not rejoice or be of good cheer, 00:13:24.07\00:13:26.37 but it's an inward thing. 00:13:26.40\00:13:29.14 I can rejoice 00:13:29.17\00:13:30.51 because I'm not walking through this alone. 00:13:30.54\00:13:33.04 I rejoice that God is walking through it with me. 00:13:33.07\00:13:35.68 I can be of good cheer, 00:13:35.71\00:13:37.05 because I know that 00:13:37.08\00:13:39.08 this is not His plan for me forever. 00:13:39.11\00:13:42.45 I'm to learn and to grow through it 00:13:42.48\00:13:44.12 and there will, I will come out the other side. 00:13:44.15\00:13:47.26 That's where the rejoice in and good cheer come from 00:13:47.29\00:13:50.73 is hanging on to Jesus 00:13:50.76\00:13:52.63 and knowing that this is a trial, 00:13:52.66\00:13:56.60 and I will get through it 00:13:56.63\00:13:57.97 and I will be better on the other side, 00:13:58.00\00:14:00.60 it's closer to the Lord. Amen. 00:14:00.64\00:14:02.90 It's like the three Hebrews. 00:14:02.94\00:14:04.34 You're not alone. 00:14:04.37\00:14:05.71 There's one that's in the fire with you, you know, 00:14:05.74\00:14:08.34 you're not by yourself. 00:14:08.38\00:14:10.75 Amen. Amen. Go ahead. 00:14:10.78\00:14:12.75 This next one, Shelley, James 1:2-4 00:14:12.78\00:14:17.62 is one that I am still growing to this one. 00:14:17.65\00:14:20.99 Amen. 00:14:21.02\00:14:22.36 'Cause, you know, as it says, in the last verse, 00:14:22.39\00:14:24.56 exceeding joy, be glad with exceeding joy. 00:14:24.59\00:14:27.63 I challenge you, you've got to really be at a special place 00:14:27.66\00:14:32.43 to say I was so glad about that trial. 00:14:32.47\00:14:36.30 It's not something that's natural. 00:14:36.34\00:14:37.87 Shelley? 00:14:37.91\00:14:39.24 James 1:2-4, 00:14:39.27\00:14:41.28 "My brethren, count it all joy," 00:14:41.31\00:14:44.55 count means to evaluate this, 00:14:44.58\00:14:46.75 "all joy when you fall into various trials, 00:14:46.78\00:14:49.62 knowing that the testing of your faith 00:14:49.65\00:14:53.42 produces patience." 00:14:53.46\00:14:55.36 It's interesting Jewish wisdom literature. 00:14:55.39\00:14:59.39 They wrote that trials were proof of faithfulness. 00:14:59.43\00:15:04.50 God allowed it as it, 00:15:04.53\00:15:07.40 so that we can prove our faithfulness. 00:15:07.44\00:15:10.31 And then he says, 00:15:10.34\00:15:11.67 "But let patience have its perfect work, 00:15:11.71\00:15:15.74 that you may be perfect and complete in it, 00:15:15.78\00:15:20.02 lacking nothing." 00:15:20.05\00:15:21.92 If we don't let patience have its work and if, 00:15:21.95\00:15:27.62 you know, I've been through this, 00:15:27.66\00:15:28.99 I'm still on a 17-month trial. 00:15:29.02\00:15:31.79 And God has taught me some patience, 00:15:31.83\00:15:36.20 but He's always put a smile on my face. 00:15:36.23\00:15:39.37 There's been a couple of days 00:15:39.40\00:15:41.04 where my patience has grown really weary. 00:15:41.07\00:15:44.64 And you know what happens? 00:15:44.67\00:15:46.41 When we don't remain patient, 00:15:46.44\00:15:48.84 the trial becomes like a temptation to doubt. 00:15:48.88\00:15:53.75 So that's why it's so important 00:15:53.78\00:15:56.22 that we keep our eyes on the Lord. 00:15:56.25\00:15:58.12 I mean, you don't want to feel sorry for yourself. 00:15:58.15\00:16:01.89 And self-pity is straight from the pits of hell. 00:16:01.92\00:16:07.23 But when we have patience just believing that 00:16:07.26\00:16:11.40 God is going to produce something great out of this, 00:16:11.43\00:16:15.10 and it will do its perfect work, 00:16:15.14\00:16:16.81 it's wonderful. 00:16:16.84\00:16:19.04 I started going this direction when you mentioned while ago, 00:16:19.07\00:16:22.14 this big pressure tank, 00:16:22.18\00:16:24.05 you know, there's just sitting there just 00:16:24.08\00:16:26.01 something's ready to go off 00:16:26.05\00:16:27.38 if you don't control that pressure. 00:16:27.42\00:16:30.19 If you don't have that valve up there, 00:16:30.22\00:16:31.79 you know that whenever it reaches a certain pressure, 00:16:31.82\00:16:33.82 you know, it's just going to explode. 00:16:33.86\00:16:36.83 And right here, 00:16:36.86\00:16:38.33 we are being given some direction right here. 00:16:38.36\00:16:42.23 Hey, one of the options is patience. 00:16:42.26\00:16:44.43 Wow. 00:16:44.47\00:16:45.80 Now that's going to, that tap might be intellectually, 00:16:45.83\00:16:48.97 but at least the minimum, please hear this, 00:16:49.00\00:16:52.41 the minimum Lord increased my patience. 00:16:52.44\00:16:55.44 If it gets there 00:16:55.48\00:16:56.98 and you're hearing a noise goes off, 00:16:57.01\00:16:59.65 you know that steam is going to, 00:16:59.68\00:17:01.15 something's going to happen, 00:17:01.18\00:17:02.55 Lord, Lord, please help. 00:17:02.58\00:17:05.62 But you know, I was just thinking, 00:17:05.65\00:17:06.99 I've never used a pressure cooker, 00:17:07.02\00:17:08.36 but my grandmother always did. 00:17:08.39\00:17:10.23 And she would take the little weight off of it, 00:17:10.26\00:17:13.29 so it can kind of, 00:17:13.33\00:17:14.66 I think that's like prayer, 00:17:14.70\00:17:16.06 when you said that we have a release valve, 00:17:16.10\00:17:18.30 when that pressure is building up, 00:17:18.33\00:17:20.34 and we turn it over and entrusted to the Lord. 00:17:20.37\00:17:23.24 That's how we can remain patient 00:17:23.27\00:17:27.18 is knowing that He's involved. 00:17:27.21\00:17:29.48 Amen. Amen. Yeah. 00:17:29.51\00:17:31.05 And that's, yeah, the patience is, 00:17:31.08\00:17:34.08 when you reach the top and you can't take it anymore. 00:17:34.12\00:17:37.52 Prayer, okay, Lord, give me the patience 00:17:37.55\00:17:40.19 to wait upon Your time 00:17:40.22\00:17:44.13 to relieve this pressure and pain. 00:17:44.16\00:17:48.93 Sometimes the pain will feel overwhelming. 00:17:48.96\00:17:53.77 And whether it's physical, mental or emotional, 00:17:53.80\00:17:58.04 we will reach a point 00:17:58.07\00:17:59.41 where I can't take this anymore. 00:17:59.44\00:18:02.18 And so that's when you reach up with prayer to Lord, 00:18:02.21\00:18:07.38 I need some of this pressure off of me 00:18:07.42\00:18:09.48 through prayer, let me have patience. 00:18:09.52\00:18:11.79 Father, remind me that 00:18:11.82\00:18:13.29 You're walking with me through this 00:18:13.32\00:18:15.72 that You're carrying me, Father. 00:18:15.76\00:18:17.66 Sometimes we have to remember He's carrying us. 00:18:17.69\00:18:20.26 And it's when you have your eyes on the Lord, 00:18:20.30\00:18:22.80 trusting in Him that He restores your peace. 00:18:22.83\00:18:26.30 That's right. 00:18:26.33\00:18:27.67 What's coming to your mind, honey, I see? 00:18:27.70\00:18:29.04 Nothing, I'm just enjoying this, 00:18:29.07\00:18:30.77 just when I say enjoying it, 00:18:30.81\00:18:32.41 you know, it's strengthening, it's encouraging. 00:18:32.44\00:18:35.84 Recently, I bought an air compressor, 00:18:35.88\00:18:38.51 because I've just got tired of going to the gas station. 00:18:38.55\00:18:41.35 And it's really tough 00:18:41.38\00:18:42.72 when you have just that auxiliary can of air 00:18:42.75\00:18:44.39 and it's like 2PSI. 00:18:44.42\00:18:47.79 You can't blow up anything with that, 00:18:47.82\00:18:49.16 even a balloon. 00:18:49.19\00:18:50.53 You drag to the gas station. 00:18:50.56\00:18:52.46 And then it really gets you on the pump 00:18:52.49\00:18:54.16 is down at the gas station. 00:18:54.20\00:18:55.80 We in Thompsonville, 00:18:55.83\00:18:57.17 you've to drive 10 miles either way 00:18:57.20\00:18:58.70 to find a air, 00:18:58.73\00:19:00.14 and you just want to catch it on. 00:19:00.17\00:19:01.94 So I finally bought an air compressor. 00:19:01.97\00:19:04.04 And, but I was reading the instructions 00:19:04.07\00:19:05.44 and had two valve gauges on it. 00:19:05.47\00:19:07.68 One showing the pressure in the tank. 00:19:07.71\00:19:09.34 And the other one 00:19:09.38\00:19:10.71 as it's building up the pressure in the tank. 00:19:10.75\00:19:13.28 It says caution, caution, 00:19:13.31\00:19:15.62 make sure the valve on the left, 00:19:15.65\00:19:17.45 you calibrate that to zero pressure. 00:19:17.49\00:19:20.62 Because you could have 00:19:20.66\00:19:21.99 30 pounds of pressure in the tank, 00:19:22.02\00:19:23.93 but if the one on the right is 150, 00:19:23.96\00:19:26.06 that tank is about to blow. 00:19:26.09\00:19:27.96 Because it's, you know, it's not calibrated. 00:19:28.00\00:19:30.77 They said make sure that 00:19:30.80\00:19:32.13 how you do that calibrate that one on the left to zero, 00:19:32.17\00:19:35.07 so that as this one is building up, 00:19:35.10\00:19:36.87 and then they have a line 00:19:36.91\00:19:38.24 even though the tank could hold like 00:19:38.27\00:19:39.61 220 pounds of pressure. 00:19:39.64\00:19:41.04 They say please do not go past this number. 00:19:41.08\00:19:44.28 Because it begins to compromise the seams 00:19:44.31\00:19:47.18 of how well that's made. 00:19:47.22\00:19:48.88 And I thought about that, life builds up in us sometimes. 00:19:48.92\00:19:52.25 And prayer is that regulator. 00:19:52.29\00:19:54.69 Just patience is that regulator and God says, 00:19:54.72\00:19:58.23 "Don't let the pressure get to you." 00:19:58.26\00:20:00.10 Make sure that you could regulate that pressure in life 00:20:00.13\00:20:02.60 by prayer and by patience. 00:20:02.63\00:20:04.03 Yes. 00:20:04.07\00:20:05.40 And the good news is, 00:20:05.43\00:20:06.77 is that you had the good sense 00:20:06.80\00:20:08.14 to read the directions. 00:20:08.17\00:20:09.50 And you know this is the direction. 00:20:09.54\00:20:12.61 Amen. 00:20:12.64\00:20:13.98 Lots of times, I know, 00:20:14.01\00:20:15.64 doing the Quinn way, we always blow up. 00:20:15.68\00:20:18.68 And then we read the directions. 00:20:18.71\00:20:20.88 And if I'm gonna live long enough 00:20:20.92\00:20:22.25 that I'm going to read directions first. 00:20:22.28\00:20:24.72 How many people buy things and don't read the direction? 00:20:24.75\00:20:27.02 So many. 00:20:27.06\00:20:28.39 Now what, where does this go? 00:20:28.42\00:20:29.76 What pieces is connected to like that address 00:20:29.79\00:20:31.13 that's on 30 degree angle. 00:20:31.16\00:20:32.49 I'm a direction reader. Oh, you are? 00:20:32.53\00:20:34.06 Yes, I am. 00:20:34.10\00:20:35.83 And I'm one of those guys that try to do it. 00:20:35.86\00:20:39.00 Angie, we got this entertainment stand, 00:20:39.03\00:20:42.00 and I thought this seems pretty easy... 00:20:42.04\00:20:45.97 Everything was everywhere. 00:20:46.01\00:20:47.34 Everything was everywhere. 00:20:47.38\00:20:48.71 And Angie said, just click the video 00:20:48.74\00:20:50.35 and it will walk you through it. 00:20:50.38\00:20:51.71 There's a little video. I got this, honey. 00:20:51.75\00:20:53.08 You get it put together 00:20:53.11\00:20:54.45 and there's eight screws left over. 00:20:54.48\00:20:56.12 And it's all well. 00:20:56.15\00:20:57.49 So I was so glad after trying. 00:20:57.52\00:20:59.62 I said, now, 00:20:59.65\00:21:00.99 this screw looks just a little quarter of an inch longer 00:21:01.02\00:21:03.29 than the other one. 00:21:03.32\00:21:04.66 If they both have the same treading, 00:21:04.69\00:21:06.03 let me try it. 00:21:06.06\00:21:07.40 And then I press the video says 00:21:07.43\00:21:08.76 there are only four of these screws 00:21:08.80\00:21:10.13 and eight of those do not use the four short screws. 00:21:10.17\00:21:12.83 I said okay, and so Angie came in the room. 00:21:12.87\00:21:14.64 You know, women cannot, they can't hesitate, 00:21:14.67\00:21:16.74 at a good moment they can't hesitate to say. 00:21:16.77\00:21:19.47 I told you, just look at the video, 00:21:19.51\00:21:21.21 it will instruct you. 00:21:21.24\00:21:23.45 And I got through it effortlessly. 00:21:23.48\00:21:25.51 He did. But we made it different. 00:21:25.55\00:21:27.82 In our household, Shelley has her, 00:21:27.85\00:21:32.15 her DNA is wrapped differently than mine. 00:21:32.19\00:21:34.92 Yes, most women. 00:21:34.96\00:21:36.69 So she has a better engineering mind 00:21:36.73\00:21:39.23 than I do. 00:21:39.26\00:21:40.60 And now you talk about pressure. 00:21:40.63\00:21:42.56 Honey, would you like to put that together? 00:21:42.60\00:21:44.23 Since she's sitting there 00:21:44.27\00:21:45.60 she can already see how it goes. 00:21:45.63\00:21:47.17 I can do this. 00:21:47.20\00:21:48.54 I you know, I am the man of the family. 00:21:48.57\00:21:50.17 Now let me get my toys out first, 00:21:53.27\00:21:55.14 because I'm very proud of my toys. 00:21:55.18\00:21:56.68 You know, I got everything that electric, 00:21:56.71\00:21:59.21 so I got all my toys out here 00:21:59.25\00:22:00.92 just to do a little 30 seconds job, you know. 00:22:00.95\00:22:04.29 And then of course, 00:22:04.32\00:22:05.72 well, honey, when you think that 00:22:05.75\00:22:07.09 it might go there? 00:22:07.12\00:22:09.76 Well, yeah, I guess it could. 00:22:09.79\00:22:13.86 Oh, but anyway, we get through it. 00:22:13.90\00:22:15.93 And it does because of the author's skill. 00:22:15.96\00:22:18.70 You line it up 00:22:18.73\00:22:20.07 and the God has given you those skills. 00:22:20.10\00:22:21.47 Dee does her own. 00:22:21.50\00:22:22.84 Well, actually I do because my husband used to say, 00:22:22.87\00:22:27.21 here, Dee, you put this together 00:22:27.24\00:22:29.14 because he knew I read the instructions. 00:22:29.18\00:22:32.28 And I got it, I had to take a book down to a salesman 00:22:32.31\00:22:35.68 because I went to get a part. 00:22:35.72\00:22:37.75 And he says, "Oh, no." 00:22:37.79\00:22:39.12 And I said, "Yes, the instruction book says it." 00:22:39.15\00:22:40.96 He goes, "Oh, no, they'd..." 00:22:40.99\00:22:42.32 And I, I'll be back. 00:22:42.36\00:22:44.33 And he says, "Oh, it does say that." 00:22:44.36\00:22:48.36 I read the directions. 00:22:48.40\00:22:50.03 So when we read the direction book, 00:22:50.07\00:22:53.07 and the most amazing thing about this direction book, 00:22:53.10\00:22:55.90 it can change to address our specific problem. 00:22:55.94\00:23:00.31 It doesn't actually change, we see it differently. 00:23:00.34\00:23:03.81 That's right. 00:23:03.85\00:23:05.18 In the trials you see it differently. 00:23:05.21\00:23:06.55 And it produces its perfect work 00:23:06.58\00:23:08.35 as this Bible says. 00:23:08.38\00:23:09.78 And that's why James and, Dee, 00:23:09.82\00:23:11.15 I'm going to have you go to Romans 5:3 and 4. 00:23:11.19\00:23:13.22 But that's why, 00:23:13.25\00:23:14.59 you know, when James talks about various trials, 00:23:14.62\00:23:16.73 let me make a statement here. 00:23:16.76\00:23:19.13 The various trials develop various strengths, 00:23:19.16\00:23:23.10 because you never know what you need 00:23:23.13\00:23:24.60 until a specific trial comes along and says, 00:23:24.63\00:23:26.84 oh, I don't have... 00:23:26.87\00:23:28.20 It's like weightlifting, right? 00:23:28.24\00:23:29.57 You want to lift the weight for the arm 00:23:29.60\00:23:30.94 or for the leg, the abs. 00:23:30.97\00:23:33.51 After a while lifting the same weight, 00:23:33.54\00:23:34.88 you think I've got to change the weight, 00:23:34.91\00:23:36.71 because you no longer feels the weight. 00:23:36.75\00:23:38.15 And you know what, God knows that. 00:23:38.18\00:23:39.61 God says, 00:23:39.65\00:23:40.98 "I need to develop in you something 00:23:41.02\00:23:42.35 you don't have yet. 00:23:42.38\00:23:43.72 So I'm going to increase the weight." 00:23:43.75\00:23:45.92 And... And He allows trials. 00:23:45.95\00:23:47.96 He allows it. Somebody said... 00:23:47.99\00:23:49.66 You know what breaks my heart is when I recognize a trial 00:23:49.69\00:23:53.23 that's very similar to one I had before 00:23:53.26\00:23:56.00 because I know I didn't learn the lesson. 00:23:56.03\00:23:59.13 It's like oh, Father, 00:23:59.17\00:24:00.54 I thought I had overcome and you're letting me see that. 00:24:00.57\00:24:04.01 Yeah, true. 00:24:04.04\00:24:05.37 I know that, Dee. 00:24:05.41\00:24:06.98 All right. 00:24:07.01\00:24:08.64 So what are some of the good results 00:24:08.68\00:24:10.38 of trials or tribulations? 00:24:10.41\00:24:11.75 Dee has that. Yes. 00:28:20.16\00:28:21.50 And verse 22 says, 00:28:21.53\00:28:23.03 "Strengthening the souls of the disciples, 00:28:23.06\00:28:26.74 exhorting them to continue in the faith, 00:28:26.77\00:28:30.54 and saying, 00:28:30.57\00:28:31.91 we must through many tribulations 00:28:31.94\00:28:35.54 enter the kingdom of God." 00:28:35.58\00:28:39.55 What if somebody told you that the day you got baptized? 00:28:39.58\00:28:41.58 Well, welcome to the tribulation group. 00:28:41.62\00:28:43.45 I try to tell people that. 00:28:43.49\00:28:45.59 You know, I mean, 00:28:45.62\00:28:46.96 and Paul bore witness to this, didn't he? 00:28:46.99\00:28:48.56 He was probably persecuted and suffered 00:28:48.59\00:28:51.49 more than almost anybody in the New Testament. 00:28:51.53\00:28:54.96 But I tried to tell people, 00:28:55.00\00:28:57.53 when you come to Christ, you're on the devil's radar. 00:28:57.57\00:29:01.87 That's right. 00:29:01.90\00:29:03.24 I tell people when you come to work at 3ABN. 00:29:03.27\00:29:05.34 Exactly. 00:29:05.37\00:29:08.14 And we see that a lot of times. 00:29:08.18\00:29:10.31 That's true. I always tell people... 00:29:10.35\00:29:11.68 He always want baptismal candidates. 00:29:11.71\00:29:13.05 I said after Matthew Chapter 3 is Matthew Chapter 4. 00:29:13.08\00:29:15.32 And the Spirit led him into the wilderness 00:29:15.35\00:29:17.75 to be tempted of the devil. 00:29:17.79\00:29:19.55 So he got baptized Jesus in Matthew 3, 00:29:19.59\00:29:22.76 in the Spirit of the Lord. 00:29:22.79\00:29:25.43 And this is important. 00:29:25.46\00:29:26.80 The Spirit of the Lord, 00:29:26.83\00:29:28.16 Jesus didn't arbitrarily wander in the wilderness, 00:29:28.20\00:29:31.03 but this is the hour He came for. 00:29:31.07\00:29:32.73 But it's a test, isn't it? Yeah. 00:29:32.77\00:29:34.57 So you got to look, now watch this, 00:29:34.60\00:29:35.94 here's where I'm going with it. 00:29:35.97\00:29:37.41 You have to sometimes, 00:29:37.44\00:29:38.97 this is a concept that 00:29:39.01\00:29:40.34 sometimes is foreign to Christians. 00:29:40.38\00:29:42.64 But when you become, 00:29:42.68\00:29:44.01 and Shelley just made this point, 00:29:44.05\00:29:45.38 when you get out of the stands, I use a football analogy, 00:29:45.41\00:29:47.42 when you leave the stands 00:29:47.45\00:29:48.95 to get on the field and you look down 00:29:48.98\00:29:50.85 and see a different color team jersey than yours, 00:29:50.89\00:29:53.02 you know, you're going to get hit, right? 00:29:53.05\00:29:54.82 Don't think it's strange 00:29:54.86\00:29:56.19 concerning the hits you're going to get. 00:29:56.22\00:29:57.76 But the thing that's strange, 00:29:57.79\00:29:59.46 the thing that's beautiful about it, 00:29:59.49\00:30:01.00 you don't jump from the stands on to the field, 00:30:01.03\00:30:04.57 you got to go through the locker room, 00:30:04.60\00:30:06.50 you definitely got to pass the coach on the other team. 00:30:06.53\00:30:09.40 And the thing about that is 00:30:09.44\00:30:10.77 the Holy Spirit, 00:30:10.81\00:30:12.14 who is God's appointed coach in our lives to help us. 00:30:12.17\00:30:15.41 He says, 00:30:15.44\00:30:16.78 "Come on, let me lead you to the place 00:30:16.81\00:30:18.15 where your life is going to be stronger. 00:30:18.18\00:30:19.88 Let me lead you." 00:30:19.91\00:30:21.25 And the thing about that 00:30:21.28\00:30:22.62 I think you mentioned a moment ago, 00:30:22.65\00:30:24.49 you were alluding to, but then you change your mind. 00:30:24.52\00:30:26.45 God doesn't send the trials, but He sure does measure them. 00:30:26.49\00:30:30.83 He never allows the trial to come to us unmeasured, 00:30:30.86\00:30:33.70 to try to crush us. 00:30:33.73\00:30:35.16 But He allows them to come to strengthen us. 00:30:35.20\00:30:37.57 But He allows this specific trial 00:30:37.60\00:30:39.63 we need at that time. 00:30:39.67\00:30:42.10 It's not just random trials. 00:30:42.14\00:30:45.14 They have a purpose to them. 00:30:45.17\00:30:46.91 And trials are different. 00:30:46.94\00:30:49.01 You may have a major trial 00:30:49.04\00:30:52.05 that you're going through in your life, 00:30:52.08\00:30:53.82 but we have sometimes it's the minor trials 00:30:53.85\00:30:57.19 that we fail the worse. 00:30:57.22\00:30:58.75 Yeah, the little. Like the Battle of Ai. 00:30:58.79\00:31:00.99 When you have, we do have trials all the time. 00:31:01.02\00:31:05.59 But they're different trials. 00:31:05.63\00:31:08.46 Now, you've been through a really long one lately. 00:31:08.50\00:31:11.33 Yes, she has. 00:31:11.37\00:31:12.70 But did God put this trial on you 00:31:12.73\00:31:14.50 when 20 years ago when you were a new Christian? 00:31:14.54\00:31:17.17 No. 00:31:17.21\00:31:19.34 He put tribulations on you to grow you. 00:31:19.37\00:31:23.14 But He didn't, you know... 00:31:23.18\00:31:24.75 He allowed. Yeah, He didn't put it on me. 00:31:24.78\00:31:26.95 You know, there are... 00:31:26.98\00:31:28.32 We have to realize 00:31:28.35\00:31:29.68 bad things happen to good people. 00:31:29.72\00:31:32.45 There's children who are in cancer wards 00:31:32.49\00:31:36.52 with leukemia, 00:31:36.56\00:31:37.89 and it's a matter 00:31:37.93\00:31:39.89 of God... 00:31:39.93\00:31:43.73 I'm just going to say this as briefly as I can. 00:31:43.77\00:31:47.24 Satan has accused God 00:31:47.27\00:31:49.84 in saying you're not fair, you're not this. 00:31:49.87\00:31:52.77 God has allowed Satan a certain period of time. 00:31:52.81\00:31:56.64 And so there's rules of engagement, 00:31:56.68\00:31:58.71 and God allows 00:31:58.75\00:32:02.32 certain things for Satan to do. 00:32:02.35\00:32:05.35 It's because He's committed Himself morally, 00:32:05.39\00:32:08.79 that He's not going to get involved in it, 00:32:08.82\00:32:11.09 that that's how it is allowed. 00:32:11.13\00:32:13.63 And we can't, I can't explain 00:32:13.66\00:32:18.17 the bad things that happen to young people. 00:32:18.20\00:32:20.74 It's not, it's just something 00:32:20.77\00:32:24.34 that we're all going to go through trials, 00:32:24.37\00:32:27.18 and they're specific trials here. 00:32:27.21\00:32:29.24 Let me bring this up real quick 00:32:29.28\00:32:30.61 in following this particular vein. 00:32:30.65\00:32:32.71 There's a term called deficiency motivation, 00:32:32.75\00:32:36.12 deficiency motivation. 00:32:36.15\00:32:38.19 Okay. 00:32:38.22\00:32:40.56 I'm ready to get go to the first grade. 00:32:40.59\00:32:43.53 Okay. 00:32:43.56\00:32:44.89 So I'm prepared as I got my new jeans on, 00:32:44.93\00:32:47.00 my new shoes and everything, 00:32:47.03\00:32:48.90 my mother has been, 00:32:48.93\00:32:50.90 it's going to be okay little boy, 00:32:50.93\00:32:52.27 it's going to be okay. 00:32:52.30\00:32:53.64 So I get to the first, I get to the door. 00:32:53.67\00:32:55.90 Oh, my goodness, what a strange feeling it is. 00:32:55.94\00:32:57.77 Look around see all these new people, 00:32:57.81\00:32:59.51 don't know who the teachers are. 00:32:59.54\00:33:01.28 Don't know where the bathrooms are. 00:33:01.31\00:33:03.18 I don't know anything. 00:33:03.21\00:33:04.75 By the time that I get through the fifth grade 00:33:04.78\00:33:06.48 though, boy, I'm king of the perch. 00:33:06.51\00:33:10.45 I know where the bathrooms are, 00:33:10.49\00:33:11.95 I know who all the teachers are. 00:33:11.99\00:33:13.49 I know the good teachers, bad teachers. 00:33:13.52\00:33:15.46 And then what happens? 00:33:15.49\00:33:17.29 I go to the sixth grade, junior high. 00:33:17.33\00:33:21.10 Here again fear comes up. 00:33:21.13\00:33:24.07 Don't know where the bathrooms are, 00:33:24.10\00:33:25.43 don't know who the teachers are, 00:33:25.47\00:33:26.80 don't know that. 00:33:26.84\00:33:28.17 I don't know a squat. 00:33:28.20\00:33:29.97 Then what happens? 00:33:30.01\00:33:32.07 Ninth grade comes, 00:33:32.11\00:33:33.74 deficiency motive and starts out all over again. 00:33:33.78\00:33:36.11 Then what happens? 00:33:36.14\00:33:38.11 College. 00:33:38.15\00:33:39.48 Then what happens? 00:33:39.51\00:33:40.85 Career. 00:33:40.88\00:33:42.22 Then what happens? 00:33:42.25\00:33:43.59 Family. 00:33:43.62\00:33:44.95 All through life and we see this 00:33:44.99\00:33:47.59 I think there's an enemy out there 00:33:47.62\00:33:50.33 that's very mature. 00:33:50.36\00:33:51.69 I think we learned about this, this last Sabbath 6,000 years 00:33:51.73\00:33:55.46 he knows how to come in 00:33:55.50\00:33:56.83 and he know exactly how to weave the web. 00:33:56.87\00:33:59.97 And so there's always 00:34:00.00\00:34:01.34 going to be something around the corner. 00:34:01.37\00:34:04.27 And so, are we to expect trials happen to us? 00:34:04.31\00:34:08.48 Absolutely. That's right. 00:34:08.51\00:34:10.15 As the different as we climb one step upon another step, 00:34:10.18\00:34:14.58 there's going to be a trial. 00:34:14.62\00:34:16.58 Well said, JD. 00:34:16.62\00:34:18.22 I'll never forget that picture. 00:34:18.25\00:34:19.85 No. 00:34:19.89\00:34:21.22 2 Corinthians 12:9, 00:34:21.26\00:34:23.49 the deficiency motivation our solution is Paul. 00:34:23.53\00:34:28.00 Jesus told Paul, 00:34:28.03\00:34:29.56 "My grace is sufficient for you." 00:34:29.60\00:34:33.34 And Paul says, 00:34:33.37\00:34:34.77 "I can do all things through Christ 00:34:34.80\00:34:36.20 who strengthens me." 00:34:36.24\00:34:37.57 So that's a good point. It is. 00:34:37.61\00:34:39.97 One thing around it, on the sufficiency, 00:34:40.01\00:34:42.61 boy that bothered me for a little while. 00:34:42.64\00:34:44.68 But you know, sometimes you hit a speed bump 00:34:44.71\00:34:46.65 and you just nearly have a heart attack. 00:34:46.68\00:34:48.52 Oh, yes, that's... 00:34:48.55\00:34:50.15 And then but, 00:34:50.19\00:34:51.52 boy, then you can hear that little voice. 00:34:51.55\00:34:53.86 My grace is sufficient. 00:34:53.89\00:34:55.32 You gonna live through this, JD. 00:34:55.36\00:34:56.76 Yes. 00:34:56.79\00:34:58.13 Thank you Jesus. 00:34:58.16\00:34:59.49 The end here, 00:34:59.53\00:35:00.86 you're going to find yourself on Pikes Peak, 00:35:00.90\00:35:04.77 a little different speed bump in Pikes Peak. 00:35:04.80\00:35:07.74 But in a wonderful word that he used sufficiency. 00:35:07.77\00:35:12.91 I don't care how big a problem you got. 00:35:12.94\00:35:16.54 My grace is sufficient, bring it on. 00:35:16.58\00:35:19.35 Okay, honey. 00:35:19.38\00:35:20.72 The picture that we can't, 00:35:20.75\00:35:22.28 that creates bad things happen to good people 00:35:22.32\00:35:25.65 that we can't, the thing that 00:35:25.69\00:35:27.02 we can't understand is the sin issue. 00:35:27.06\00:35:30.23 Because no matter we can do everything right. 00:35:30.26\00:35:33.60 We can be close to the Lord, we can walk through our trials. 00:35:33.63\00:35:37.37 The sin issue is the unknown 00:35:37.40\00:35:40.67 that we don't have control over that, 00:35:40.70\00:35:43.37 Satan has over it 00:35:43.41\00:35:44.74 and it can affect anybody at any time. 00:35:44.77\00:35:46.78 That's right. 00:35:46.81\00:35:48.14 And then that is that tribulation 00:35:48.18\00:35:50.51 that God walks you through that we can't explain. 00:35:50.55\00:35:55.05 There is no explanation on this earth 00:35:55.08\00:35:57.65 of why some of those things that look so unreasonable to us 00:35:57.69\00:36:03.02 that we just can't understand. 00:36:03.06\00:36:05.19 It goes back to the sin issue. 00:36:05.23\00:36:07.76 Sometimes there's places we don't want to be, 00:36:07.80\00:36:09.40 honey, talk about that. 00:36:09.43\00:36:10.97 You just listen to me about the... 00:36:11.00\00:36:13.60 When we were in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. 00:36:13.64\00:36:17.67 This is talking about fear, overcoming fear, okay? 00:36:17.71\00:36:22.18 I don't like parasailing. 00:36:22.21\00:36:24.61 You don't like heights? 00:36:24.65\00:36:25.98 I don't like heights. 00:36:26.01\00:36:27.35 And I decided, well, when we went to St. Thomas, 00:36:27.38\00:36:31.49 Brother Isaac, right? 00:36:31.52\00:36:34.36 A shout out to you, Brother Isaac. 00:36:34.39\00:36:36.39 You recognize my husband and said, 00:36:36.42\00:36:39.63 "You don't have to pay for anything." 00:36:39.66\00:36:41.03 We're like "What?" 00:36:41.06\00:36:42.40 So he says, "I'm going to put you on parasailing." 00:36:42.43\00:36:45.97 My heart pitter-pattered. 00:36:46.00\00:36:47.34 I should have never purchased that. 00:36:47.37\00:36:48.70 I wouldn't purchase it. No. 00:36:48.74\00:36:50.07 So he says, "Go on parasailing." 00:36:50.11\00:36:51.87 I'm like, "Okay, it'll be a little fun, 00:36:51.91\00:36:55.28 but I got to overcome this fear." 00:36:55.31\00:36:58.58 So off we went to on the boat. 00:36:58.61\00:37:01.22 We got our gear, harnesses, 00:37:01.25\00:37:04.29 everything set up and off we go. 00:37:04.32\00:37:06.89 And I say oh, this is so nice, so going up. 00:37:06.92\00:37:10.43 Then we got way up. 00:37:10.46\00:37:12.89 My heart was pounding. 00:37:12.93\00:37:15.10 I was, my eyes closed. 00:37:15.13\00:37:16.77 He sent you about, maybe about 350-400 feet up. 00:37:16.80\00:37:19.80 I didn't realize that, I didn't pay attention. 00:37:19.83\00:37:21.54 That's 35 to 40 stories over the ocean. 00:37:21.57\00:37:24.34 You looked down? 00:37:24.37\00:37:25.71 I looked down. 00:37:25.74\00:37:27.14 Look up Angie, look up Angie. 00:37:27.18\00:37:30.08 My happy go lucky husband, look at all the islands. 00:37:30.11\00:37:33.11 Look at all of this. 00:37:33.15\00:37:34.52 It's beautiful out there. I peeked. 00:37:56.67\00:37:58.97 Did peek a little with one eye. 00:37:59.01\00:38:00.54 So why am I telling my wife in the moment of fear, 00:38:00.58\00:38:02.74 open your eyes. 00:38:02.78\00:38:04.11 It's not that bad. Amen. 00:38:04.15\00:38:05.75 There's anticipated fear, 00:38:05.78\00:38:07.25 there's anticipated trials and there's actual trial. 00:38:07.28\00:38:10.65 What I was trying to motivate her 00:38:10.69\00:38:12.85 about was their two kids went before us. 00:38:12.89\00:38:15.99 Yeah, he did. 00:38:16.02\00:38:17.36 Look here, he couldn't be bigger than a harness. 00:38:17.39\00:38:19.69 And another kid was about 12 years old. 00:38:19.73\00:38:21.90 And his brothers were terrified. 00:38:21.93\00:38:23.33 And his mother said, 00:38:23.37\00:38:25.10 "His brothers didn't want to do this, 00:38:25.13\00:38:26.47 they're terrified." 00:38:26.50\00:38:27.84 So I told him I said, 00:38:27.87\00:38:29.20 "When you go back, tell your brothers. 00:38:29.24\00:38:30.57 Look, I'm a courageous kid." 00:38:30.61\00:38:31.94 And he said, "Yes." 00:38:31.97\00:38:33.31 And so Angie went after these two kids 00:38:33.34\00:38:36.14 that went bad knee-high to a grasshopper. 00:38:36.18\00:38:38.18 I said, "Honey, look they survived, you'll be just fine." 00:38:38.21\00:38:40.78 She said, "Don't talk to me." 00:38:40.82\00:38:42.25 But I had a fear, 00:38:42.28\00:38:43.62 what if it pops all these things, 00:38:43.65\00:38:44.99 you know what if I fall in the water 00:38:45.02\00:38:46.76 and the sharks are going to get me? 00:38:46.79\00:38:48.12 Did any of that happen? No. 00:38:48.16\00:38:50.09 So what did your worry gain you? 00:38:50.13\00:38:52.43 Nothing. Oh, I get it. 00:38:52.46\00:38:53.96 What did, what did it rob you of? 00:38:54.00\00:38:56.77 Right. The joy. 00:38:56.80\00:38:58.33 The beauty of what God was trying to show you. 00:38:58.37\00:39:01.20 So sometimes God is lifting you up 00:39:01.24\00:39:03.17 in your most fearful moments, 00:39:03.20\00:39:04.91 the moments of tribulation to you, 00:39:04.94\00:39:06.88 and you're missing out on what He's trying to show you. 00:39:06.91\00:39:10.11 So the only way she knows it is now on our video, 00:39:10.15\00:39:13.01 the one I wore on my chest, 00:39:13.05\00:39:14.55 DJI, but let's go on to a couple of things here 00:39:14.58\00:39:16.45 because there are big questions 00:39:16.48\00:39:18.22 that we have to ask ourselves in trials. 00:39:18.25\00:39:20.36 I'm gonna go to Shelley, this time, I changed my order. 00:39:20.39\00:39:22.62 Shelley, Romans 8:35? 00:39:22.66\00:39:24.26 Romans 8:35. 00:39:24.29\00:39:25.63 Yeah, there are some big questions 00:39:25.66\00:39:27.00 we have to ask ourselves when trials come. 00:39:27.03\00:39:29.10 "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ, 00:39:29.13\00:39:32.50 shall tribulation, or distress, 00:39:32.53\00:39:35.64 or persecution, or famine, 00:39:35.67\00:39:38.87 or nakedness or peril or sword. 00:39:38.91\00:39:42.04 Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ." 00:39:42.08\00:39:46.45 And you know, Paul, 00:39:46.48\00:39:47.98 endured all of these things, did he not? 00:39:48.02\00:39:51.95 Yeah. 00:39:51.99\00:39:53.32 But he emerged triumphant 00:39:53.36\00:39:55.02 because he knew that Christ was his rock, 00:39:55.06\00:40:00.53 that Christ was his, 00:40:00.56\00:40:03.50 he was under the wings of the Lord. 00:40:03.53\00:40:05.93 And he did not worry about the peril. 00:40:05.97\00:40:08.80 He didn't worry about it. 00:40:08.84\00:40:10.17 And I think that there's another passages... 00:40:10.21\00:40:11.61 We're more than conquerors, right? 00:40:11.64\00:40:13.14 Yeah. 00:40:13.17\00:40:14.51 We're going to reuse that one. 00:40:14.54\00:40:16.34 Right. We're going to use that one again. 00:40:16.38\00:40:17.88 Okay, I'm sorry. That's okay. 00:40:17.91\00:40:19.25 But look at what he... 00:40:19.28\00:40:20.62 Look at the categories that he brings out. 00:40:20.65\00:40:22.12 What are some of those categories again, honey? 00:40:22.15\00:40:24.39 Which one? 00:40:24.42\00:40:25.75 Let's look at the tribulation or distress. 00:40:25.79\00:40:29.86 Boy, have we, has the world been going through distress? 00:40:29.89\00:40:35.13 Some more than others. 00:40:35.16\00:40:37.07 Some are fighting persecution. 00:40:37.10\00:40:39.37 What else? 00:40:39.40\00:40:40.84 Famine. Famine, nakedness, peril. 00:40:40.87\00:40:43.84 I don't think any of these categories 00:40:43.87\00:40:45.74 would be ones that people will say, bring it on. 00:40:45.77\00:40:50.05 I want to go through famine, I want to go through distress. 00:40:50.08\00:40:52.91 Nobody will bring it on. 00:40:52.95\00:40:54.78 But the Lord, it's funny that it starts that way. 00:40:54.82\00:40:58.25 That's why I want to go to Romans 12:12 next, JD. 00:40:58.29\00:41:01.42 Romans 12:12. 00:41:01.46\00:41:02.92 Because we're finding some unusual terms 00:41:02.96\00:41:05.03 in the middle of these difficulties, 00:41:05.06\00:41:06.73 as Shelley said, 00:41:06.76\00:41:08.16 "Who shall separate us?" 00:41:08.20\00:41:09.63 What is Paul asking us, Shelley? 00:41:09.66\00:41:13.87 Who shall separate us, what is Paul asking us? 00:41:13.90\00:41:17.71 I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. 00:41:17.74\00:41:19.07 What is Paul asking us who shall separate us, 00:41:19.11\00:41:21.21 what is he asking? 00:41:21.24\00:41:22.58 The love of Christ. 00:41:22.61\00:41:23.95 There's nothing that can separate us is that? 00:41:23.98\00:41:25.31 Yes. Okay. I didn't understand. 00:41:25.35\00:41:27.05 So what is that... 00:41:27.08\00:41:28.42 Even when we think we feel separated, 00:41:28.45\00:41:31.05 we feel separated, 00:41:31.09\00:41:32.45 God actually did not separate from us, 00:41:32.49\00:41:34.89 He is right there. 00:41:34.92\00:41:36.26 Jesus felt forsaken on the cross. 00:41:36.29\00:41:38.33 But God, what, but He wasn't. 00:41:38.36\00:41:39.96 But He wasn't. 00:41:40.00\00:41:41.40 It was a feeling that was not true, 00:41:41.43\00:41:43.73 because nothing can or will separate us. 00:41:43.77\00:41:47.20 Now, I wanna bring out something we didn't see. 00:41:47.24\00:41:49.40 Because I said what is Paul asking us. 00:41:49.44\00:41:51.27 Did he ask us what shall separate us? 00:41:51.31\00:41:54.08 People sometimes are the very, 00:41:58.48\00:42:01.02 the very place where these things come from, 00:42:01.05\00:42:03.69 because people just what, 00:42:03.72\00:42:05.05 we could be on an island by ourselves. 00:42:05.09\00:42:06.55 How many people on an island by themselves go through this? 00:42:06.59\00:42:09.79 But how do... 00:42:09.82\00:42:11.39 But where do we go through them? 00:42:11.43\00:42:12.76 Usually through people. 00:42:12.79\00:42:15.16 Could be family members, church members, 00:42:15.20\00:42:17.53 people that we don't know, 00:42:17.57\00:42:19.17 until Paul is saying, Okay, if you see them coming, 00:42:19.20\00:42:21.54 remember, is this going to be the one 00:42:21.57\00:42:23.71 that's going to separate you? 00:42:23.74\00:42:25.47 That's what he's asking, "Who? Not what?" 00:42:25.51\00:42:27.84 We always think what, but he's saying who? 00:42:27.88\00:42:30.21 Because he went through some stuff. 00:42:30.25\00:42:31.91 And JD, Romans 12:12? 00:42:31.95\00:42:34.65 In Romans 12:12, talk about who... 00:42:34.68\00:42:38.35 Yeah, the kind of attitude. 00:42:38.39\00:42:39.72 "What is our response in everything, 00:42:39.75\00:42:41.09 we should rejoice and hope. 00:42:41.12\00:42:43.12 We should be patient in tribulation, 00:42:43.16\00:42:46.29 continually steadfast, 00:42:46.33\00:42:49.06 have our feet planted firmly in prayer." 00:42:49.10\00:42:52.57 So in other words, 00:42:52.60\00:42:53.94 he would have mentioned these up here. 00:42:53.97\00:42:55.84 But Paul would not have mentioned these, 00:42:55.87\00:42:57.84 who shall separate from the love of Christ? 00:42:57.87\00:42:59.81 Shall it be tribulation? 00:42:59.84\00:43:01.18 Shall it be distress or persecute 00:43:01.21\00:43:03.11 if they didn't anticipate it? 00:43:03.14\00:43:05.21 So, you know, this is coming down 00:43:05.25\00:43:06.61 from inspired man. 00:43:06.65\00:43:08.02 So they already have given us this, 00:43:08.05\00:43:10.52 you can expect this. 00:43:10.55\00:43:12.35 But then come in here and says, 00:43:12.39\00:43:13.96 hey, but there is this option we were talking about earlier, 00:43:13.99\00:43:17.29 you can rejoice in hope, 00:43:17.33\00:43:19.23 you can be patient in tribulation. 00:43:19.26\00:43:21.86 And you do have that option of being steadfast in pray, 00:43:21.90\00:43:26.60 in prayer. 00:43:26.63\00:43:27.97 You know, my wife brought something out here 00:43:28.00\00:43:29.34 and I want you to read that, 00:43:29.37\00:43:30.71 verses 9-11 because what's the category? 00:43:30.74\00:43:33.61 The title, If you have the remnant Bible 00:43:33.64\00:43:35.54 that says behave like a Christian, 00:43:35.58\00:43:38.31 above verse 9, 00:43:38.35\00:43:40.22 because it says like, verse 9 says, 00:43:40.25\00:43:41.82 "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. 00:43:41.85\00:43:45.09 Cling to what is good." 00:43:45.12\00:43:46.45 These are just practical steps of being a Christian, 00:43:46.49\00:43:50.46 "Be kindly affectionate to one another 00:43:50.49\00:43:53.46 with brotherly love and honor, 00:43:53.50\00:43:56.13 give in preference to one another, 00:43:56.16\00:43:58.13 not lagging in diligence, 00:43:58.17\00:43:59.80 fervent in spirit, serving the Lord." 00:43:59.83\00:44:02.40 And then, of course, 00:44:02.44\00:44:03.77 "Rejoicing in hope, 00:44:03.81\00:44:05.21 patient in tribulation, 00:44:05.24\00:44:07.51 continually steadfast in prayer." 00:44:07.54\00:44:11.15 You know, rejoicing in hope to me, 00:44:11.18\00:44:14.78 the hope that he is referring to here is, 00:44:14.82\00:44:19.45 I mean, hope in the Greek is eager expectation. 00:44:19.49\00:44:24.06 But the hope he's referring to here 00:44:24.09\00:44:26.76 is our hope of Christ return of our ultimate redemption, 00:44:26.80\00:44:32.20 of knowing that whatever our sufferings 00:44:32.23\00:44:37.01 are light and momentary, 00:44:37.04\00:44:38.87 and we had this eternal glory ahead of us. 00:44:38.91\00:44:42.34 But continuing steadfastly in prayer. 00:44:42.38\00:44:46.18 I think to me prayer, 00:44:46.21\00:44:49.95 I see humility is total dependence upon God. 00:44:49.98\00:44:54.56 And prayer is 00:44:54.59\00:44:57.26 how you can measure your dependence upon God. 00:44:57.29\00:45:00.63 If you go through the day without prayer, 00:45:00.66\00:45:03.23 you're not depending on God. 00:45:03.26\00:45:05.10 But if you're turning everything 00:45:05.13\00:45:06.47 over to God in prayer 00:45:06.50\00:45:08.20 that shows your humility, and you can rejoice. 00:45:08.24\00:45:11.81 And also creates that relationship. 00:45:11.84\00:45:13.81 Amen. That's right. 00:45:13.84\00:45:15.28 I was reading last week in a devotional. 00:45:15.31\00:45:18.05 JD? No, go ahead. 00:45:18.08\00:45:20.35 I was reading last week in the devotional thought 00:45:20.38\00:45:22.12 and Oswald Chambers, 00:45:22.15\00:45:23.79 because you know, coming back from vacation, 00:45:23.82\00:45:25.99 I looked at my schedule. 00:45:26.02\00:45:27.46 Coming back and I thought, 00:45:27.49\00:45:30.56 I wrote it to Donna, 00:45:30.59\00:45:31.93 I'm stressed just looking at this. 00:45:31.96\00:45:33.56 I'm just stressed looking at this. 00:45:33.60\00:45:35.53 I think I should extend my stay, 00:45:35.56\00:45:36.90 I was thinking to myself, 00:45:36.93\00:45:38.33 but Oswald Chambers was appropriate for me. 00:45:38.37\00:45:41.84 Because as I was reading, he says, 00:45:41.87\00:45:43.64 if the, I'll use the word the things of life, 00:45:43.67\00:45:49.31 if the thing that God has called you to do 00:45:49.34\00:45:52.38 stresses you out, 00:45:52.41\00:45:54.18 you are putting all of the responsibility 00:45:54.22\00:45:56.35 on yourself. 00:45:56.38\00:45:58.89 But if it doesn't stress you out, 00:45:58.92\00:46:00.86 you're putting the responsibility 00:46:00.89\00:46:02.59 to perform these things on Christ. 00:46:02.62\00:46:05.26 And so often we put the performance on ourselves. 00:46:05.29\00:46:07.93 I mean, come on now we all work here. 00:46:07.96\00:46:09.66 Oh, yeah. 00:46:09.70\00:46:11.03 We know, we know it's like, what has that require him? 00:46:11.07\00:46:13.87 Okay, well, I got two hats on, 00:46:13.90\00:46:15.24 I haven't take the other one off yet. 00:46:15.27\00:46:17.04 When you are relying on yourself, 00:46:17.07\00:46:18.57 it's stressful. 00:46:18.61\00:46:19.94 But I said to somebody, now I get it. 00:46:19.97\00:46:21.88 The Lord says, 00:46:21.91\00:46:23.24 "Come unto me, all you who are 00:46:23.28\00:46:24.61 weary and heavy laden 00:46:24.65\00:46:25.98 or labor and are heavy laden, I'll give you rest." 00:46:26.01\00:46:28.15 So we trade our yoke for His and He says, 00:46:28.18\00:46:31.45 "My yoke is easy. My burden is light." 00:46:31.49\00:46:34.56 And after I got through my sermon on Sabbath, 00:46:34.59\00:46:36.22 and then the Bible marking on the Sabbath afternoon 00:46:36.26\00:46:38.83 to kind of so to speak, wind up my week. 00:46:38.86\00:46:41.83 I said, 00:46:41.86\00:46:43.20 "Honey, that was not so bad. 00:46:43.23\00:46:45.47 That was not so bad. 00:46:45.50\00:46:46.84 I asked God to give me strength and He did. 00:46:46.87\00:46:49.50 He surely did. 00:46:49.54\00:46:50.87 But He takes the stress off too. 00:46:50.91\00:46:53.07 He does take the stress off. 00:46:53.11\00:46:54.54 When I first started in my position, 00:46:54.58\00:46:57.31 I put it on myself, 00:46:57.35\00:46:59.61 that I had to book all these people 00:46:59.65\00:47:01.88 and I had to talk them into coming. 00:47:01.92\00:47:04.35 It was my job to get them to say yes. 00:47:04.39\00:47:08.86 That's a lot of stress. Yes, it is. 00:47:08.89\00:47:10.89 But the minute that I finally realized, 00:47:10.93\00:47:15.46 God brings people to 3ABN, 00:47:15.50\00:47:18.57 God impresses in our hearts. 00:47:18.60\00:47:20.67 It's not Dee's job. 00:47:20.70\00:47:22.70 It's God's. 00:47:22.74\00:47:24.21 And the minute 00:47:24.24\00:47:25.57 the responsibility belongs to God 00:47:25.61\00:47:27.28 about who came or didn't come. 00:47:27.31\00:47:30.08 All I had to do was make the phone calls. 00:47:30.11\00:47:32.75 And I would say to people, well, if God wants you here, 00:47:32.78\00:47:35.28 He won't give you any peace. 00:47:35.32\00:47:38.55 Well, that's a good one. 00:47:38.59\00:47:40.22 I have, I want my wife to read one of these here. 00:47:40.26\00:47:42.32 But I want to throw this one back to Shelley. 00:47:42.36\00:47:44.53 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, 00:47:44.56\00:47:47.46 when I was thinking about my wife, specifically, 00:47:47.50\00:47:49.70 but Shelley, what assurance that we've been given 00:47:49.73\00:47:52.10 concerning trials and tribulations? 00:47:52.13\00:47:54.34 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 00:47:54.37\00:47:57.87 the Father of mercies, the God of all comfort, 00:47:57.91\00:48:02.24 who comforts us in all our tribulation, 00:48:02.28\00:48:06.15 that we may be able to comfort 00:48:06.18\00:48:08.72 those who are in any trouble 00:48:08.75\00:48:11.85 with the comfort 00:48:11.89\00:48:13.46 with which we ourselves are comforted by God." 00:48:13.49\00:48:17.96 Boy, it is because 00:48:17.99\00:48:20.80 through the past 17 months, 00:48:20.83\00:48:24.10 God has strengthened. 00:48:24.13\00:48:26.57 Excuse me, this is one of my challenges. 00:48:26.60\00:48:30.14 God has strengthened to me every day. 00:48:30.17\00:48:33.51 He has given me the courage. 00:48:33.54\00:48:35.88 But what's amazing, you mentioned 00:48:35.91\00:48:37.85 about your life being a witness. 00:48:37.88\00:48:40.55 I've been comforting others, 00:48:40.58\00:48:43.08 you know, in my words, 00:48:43.12\00:48:44.45 trying to give them the same comfort 00:48:44.49\00:48:46.12 with the things that God has taught me 00:48:46.15\00:48:48.42 while I've been in His waiting room. 00:48:48.46\00:48:50.83 But I'm constantly surprised 00:48:50.86\00:48:53.53 by the number of people who say, 00:48:53.56\00:48:55.66 your life has been such a testimony 00:48:55.70\00:48:58.07 watching you go through this, 00:48:58.10\00:48:59.50 I'm going, wow! 00:48:59.53\00:49:01.34 You know, so, but God uses us when... 00:49:01.37\00:49:06.04 He doesn't just comfort us, so we can sit back and think, 00:49:06.07\00:49:09.11 oh, I've got his nice fuzzy blanket around me. 00:49:09.14\00:49:12.05 He comforts us 00:49:12.08\00:49:13.42 so that we can be a conduit of blessing 00:49:13.45\00:49:16.42 to someone else. 00:49:16.45\00:49:17.85 I tell people, 00:49:17.89\00:49:19.25 somebody asked me to call a woman 00:49:19.29\00:49:21.09 who'd lost her child. 00:49:21.12\00:49:22.72 I cannot imagine a worse pain than losing your child. 00:49:22.76\00:49:28.26 What did I do? Right? 00:50:40.40\00:50:42.00 We know. 00:50:42.04\00:50:44.54 We've been married 37 years, 00:50:44.57\00:50:46.04 you definitely go through trial. 00:50:46.07\00:50:47.41 You can encourage others, 00:50:47.44\00:50:48.78 as you see them going up getting ready for the drop, 00:50:48.81\00:50:51.78 you can encourage them. 00:50:51.81\00:50:54.72 And also maybe give them some help 00:50:54.75\00:50:57.29 of getting through that drop. 00:50:57.32\00:51:00.19 As you hear them screaming from a distance. 00:51:00.22\00:51:02.36 But it also encourages them 00:51:02.39\00:51:05.63 that they're not other people have gone through this before. 00:51:05.66\00:51:08.50 Right, like Cheri.
