participated in as a young man

cultivated tendencies

took me to a dark place.

And even throughout life,

sometimes in the
journey of the Christian

which is our journey,

journey, pastoral journey.

There are times that
darkness comes upon us.

dark period in my life.

He was right there next to me

out of that dark
time period of my life.

know which one it is.

And that's why
you know the Bible

says that Jesus is
the light of the world,

sometimes our theology,

when it clashes
with our condition,

we realize that
theology is not all you need.

We need Christology with Christ

'cause you could,

there are those who
are watching the program.

know the Bible texts.

exactly how to quote them,

but sometimes
darkness is so overwhelming

that it brings in
this feeling of despair,

feeling that why try again?

And so, yeah, darkness is a...

It's a terrible thing.

But praise the Lord, I
heard somebody once say,

even the smallest
candle could be seen

in a dark dense forest.

So yeah, that's the
light of God's glory.

That's how beautiful
it is over the darkness.

I was going through

many dark periods in my life

for about 14 years, you know,

being raised in the
church and everything like that.

Mother raised
me up in the church
00:07:49.50\00:07:51.03
and then I wandered
off and did my own thing.
00:07:51.07\00:07:53.20
And it just led
down a path that was,
00:07:53.23\00:07:55.77
it was basically
leading to destruction.
00:07:55.80\00:07:58.17
And during that time period,
00:07:58.21\00:08:00.58
like I had things and you know,
00:08:00.61\00:08:04.48
stuff, but it
didn't fill the void.

There was still an emptiness,
but you know, the Bible says,

"Train up a child in
the way he should go on,
00:08:10.82\00:08:12.55
when he grows old,
they won't depart from it."

Well, you know,
I held on to that
00:08:15.19\00:08:18.33
and the teachings
that my mom instilled in me
00:08:18.36\00:08:21.40
from the Word of
God and devotions
00:08:21.43\00:08:23.20
and all of that stuff.
00:08:23.23\00:08:24.57
And later on down the line,
00:08:24.60\00:08:26.30
you know, God had
been pulling at my heart

and my mom had been
praying and you know,

coming back to the Lord
was just absolutely amazing

and a tremendous blessing.

And we'll probably...
It is such a peace now.

It's, you can't
even really describe it.

of peace, it's the peace,

you to fix a problem

you have to be aware
that there is a problem.

our hopeless condition.

And when we're
in that dark times,

sometimes we don't
even call on the Lord,

growing up in the city,

getting involved in gambling,

pool, hustling, partying,

living a dark
life even struggling

to get out of that dark life
00:11:38.19\00:11:40.43
and a number of other things,

which were, may not said,
00:11:42.46\00:11:44.70
the Lord, I find
that He didn't leave me.

But He was there somewhat like

when the
president travels, you know,

he has a medical team
with him if anything happens,

an emergency packet,
God is our emergency packet.

And I look back
on and now I think,

man, there's no way
I could have made it

if the Lord wasn't right
there to bring us out of it.

satisfy some temporary moment.

it's gonna bring you happiness

God to mold us in the way that

understanding the law of God

versus the ceremonial law.

And sometimes Paul
is talking about them

in the very same verse.

People get them all mixed up

and want to get
rid of the Sabbath.

But here he makes a
point about our condition.

Verse 6 and 7 of Romans 8.

He says, "For to be
carnally minded is death.

spiritually minded is life

verse 7, "the carnal
mind is enmity against God,

for it is not
subject to the law of God,

nor indeed can be."

Got to get rid of the God's law.

a question one day,

do we not want to do that?"

condition of the mind.

When the mind is
against God's law,

a person naming

just refusing to be
subject to the law of God,

commandments is His light.

than just the sinful life,
