00:07:33.05\00:07:36.18 And what, voila when they're done, we're like, 00:07:36.22\00:07:38.82 "Ah, we want to clean up our house. 00:07:38.85\00:07:40.82 when we done." 00:07:40.86\00:07:42.69 We want to tear down this living room and, you know, 00:07:42.72\00:07:45.66 just restore everything. 00:07:45.69\00:07:47.73 And what amazes us as people look at that, 00:07:47.76\00:07:49.83 and they say, you know, they look at this house 00:07:49.86\00:07:51.80 they buy for like $5,000 it's just a, it's a mess. 00:07:51.83\00:07:55.27 But they say it has bones, we could work with it. 00:07:55.30\00:07:57.71 It has good bones 00:07:57.74\00:07:59.17 and they walk into and on the inside is a mess, 00:07:59.21\00:08:02.81 just, you know, rotten things on the outside 00:08:02.84\00:08:06.21 and then 55 minutes later, 00:08:06.25\00:08:09.22 when they unveil the house, we say, "Wow." 00:08:09.25\00:08:11.85 Almost like that show, Move That Bus! 00:08:11.89\00:08:13.89 and try to look at it was like,"What?" 00:08:13.92\00:08:16.22 And so with that with that example, 00:08:16.26\00:08:19.09 that's how the Lord sees us. 00:08:19.13\00:08:21.50 We come, the Lord sees us like a house 00:08:21.53\00:08:25.00 that the devil just says, "Tear it down." 00:08:25.03\00:08:28.64 And the Lord says, "No, 00:08:28.67\00:08:30.71 I could fix it up on the inside and on the outside." 00:08:30.74\00:08:34.01 And that's what our program is about today. 00:08:34.04\00:08:35.78 And I know if you're watching and you're maybe in the process 00:08:35.81\00:08:37.91 of feeling broken, 00:08:37.95\00:08:39.75 and you might be saying, "Well, 00:08:39.78\00:08:41.12 how can that make a difference for me?" 00:08:41.15\00:08:42.48 Stay with us, 00:08:42.52\00:08:43.85 we're going to walk through first 00:08:43.89\00:08:45.22 the definitions of grace 00:08:45.25\00:08:46.59 and then we're going to go ahead and build 00:08:46.62\00:08:47.96 on restorative grace. 00:08:47.99\00:08:49.32 And so I'm going to just start with a... 00:08:49.36\00:08:50.73 Pastor Rafferty, 00:08:50.76\00:08:52.09 let's start with one of those very, very famous passages, 00:08:52.13\00:08:55.46 Ephesians 2:8, 9 00:08:55.50\00:08:59.50 and then we'll spend a little time on that 00:08:59.53\00:09:01.04 because, Pastor Dinzey, you know, that's the... 00:09:01.07\00:09:03.87 When people say what is grace? 00:09:03.91\00:09:05.51 It's like what is sin? The transgression of the law. 00:09:05.54\00:09:08.28 You know, what is faith? 00:09:08.31\00:09:09.64 The substance of things hoped for. 00:09:09.68\00:09:11.01 We have those... 00:09:11.05\00:09:12.38 Those are scriptures, 00:09:12.41\00:09:13.75 but the cliche response 00:09:13.78\00:09:15.12 must begin with this one and then we're going to begin 00:09:15.15\00:09:16.48 to build on that. 00:09:16.52\00:09:17.85 God is great. 00:09:17.89\00:09:19.22 All right, Ephesians 2:8, 9. 00:09:19.25\00:09:22.06 It says, "For by grace you are saved through faith, 00:09:22.09\00:09:25.83 and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, 00:09:25.86\00:09:28.86 not of works, lest any man should boast." 00:09:28.90\00:09:30.97 Okay, so give us some example, 00:09:31.00\00:09:33.94 amplify that for us this kind of grace. 00:09:33.97\00:09:36.24 I really loved 00:09:36.27\00:09:37.87 what you were saying about the house 00:09:37.91\00:09:39.31 because I was actually helping my friend work on this house. 00:09:39.34\00:09:41.84 He purchased this house. 00:09:41.88\00:09:43.35 He and I have been working together 00:09:43.38\00:09:45.61 for a while in ministry. 00:09:45.65\00:09:47.12 He was in a Rice grad. 00:09:47.15\00:09:48.58 That's a school we were doing, 00:09:48.62\00:09:50.19 and he ended up becoming an intern. 00:09:50.22\00:09:53.02 So we... 00:09:53.05\00:09:54.39 I mentored him for a couple of years, 00:09:54.42\00:09:55.76 but he's a contractor by trade, 00:09:55.79\00:09:57.56 and he helped actually redo 00:09:57.59\00:09:59.93 my father-in-law's house in California. 00:09:59.96\00:10:01.60 We went down there for a few trips 00:10:01.63\00:10:03.83 and redid that house and opened it up. 00:10:03.87\00:10:05.40 It was one of those here's one room, 00:10:05.43\00:10:06.87 here's another room here's the kitchen 00:10:06.90\00:10:08.24 and we just he just opened it up 00:10:08.27\00:10:09.60 and put these beams across and just, oh, 00:10:09.64\00:10:11.27 it was so beautiful. 00:10:11.31\00:10:12.64 And that house had bones. 00:10:12.67\00:10:14.01 The house he's working on now 00:10:14.04\00:10:15.54 almost... 00:10:15.58\00:10:17.75 Sometimes I get the idea that he regrets it a little bit 00:10:17.78\00:10:19.98 because we went, 00:10:20.02\00:10:21.35 and I helped him again demo it 00:10:21.38\00:10:23.08 and get all of the... 00:10:23.12\00:10:25.02 You know, it didn't have Sheetrock, 00:10:25.05\00:10:26.39 it was old enough. 00:10:26.42\00:10:27.76 It was, I think, in 1924. 00:10:27.79\00:10:29.72 So really old house with the rope windows, 00:10:29.76\00:10:32.06 you know, the weight rope windows 00:10:32.09\00:10:33.73 and the old plaster instead of the Sheetrock, 00:10:33.76\00:10:38.50 which is really hard to get off with the netting 00:10:38.53\00:10:40.30 and all the boards. 00:10:40.34\00:10:41.67 And as we demoed that thing, you know, 00:10:41.70\00:10:43.10 he found a lot of things inside, 00:10:43.14\00:10:44.77 and I think that's how it is with us 00:10:44.81\00:10:46.64 and God, you know, God has purchased... 00:10:46.68\00:10:48.81 You know, He purchased the house. 00:10:48.84\00:10:50.18 That's right. 00:10:50.21\00:10:51.55 And you start demoing the house, 00:10:51.58\00:10:53.15 you start finding things, 00:10:53.18\00:10:54.52 and I think we start seeing things 00:10:54.55\00:10:56.05 sometimes in our characters and our natures, you know, 00:10:56.08\00:10:58.02 they're really difficult, 00:10:58.05\00:10:59.39 but he thought 00:10:59.42\00:11:00.76 he was going to be done by now, 00:11:00.79\00:11:02.12 like the end of June, he was going to be done. 00:11:02.16\00:11:03.49 And, you know, he's hoping to be done 00:11:03.53\00:11:04.86 by the end of the year because it just takes time. 00:11:04.89\00:11:07.56 Sometimes it takes time to work through the floor 00:11:07.60\00:11:10.50 and the walls and get them straightened out 00:11:10.53\00:11:12.40 and try to get a straight corner somewhere 00:11:12.43\00:11:14.84 where everything's kind of square, 00:11:14.87\00:11:16.54 and he said, "You know, 00:11:16.57\00:11:17.91 it would have been faster for me to start from scratch." 00:11:17.94\00:11:20.38 And God could have done that, 00:11:20.41\00:11:21.74 you know, He could have wiped us out 00:11:21.78\00:11:23.85 and He could have just started all over again. 00:11:23.88\00:11:25.78 No one would have known but Him. 00:11:25.81\00:11:28.48 Wow, wow. 00:11:28.52\00:11:29.85 And He couldn't do that, 00:11:29.88\00:11:31.22 you know, because that would have been 00:11:31.25\00:11:32.59 a denial of who he is. 00:11:32.62\00:11:33.96 So he purchased us, I love that, He purchased us. 00:11:33.99\00:11:36.19 I love the first verse. 00:11:36.22\00:11:37.56 I mean, not the first verse, 00:11:37.59\00:11:38.93 but the first mention of grace in Ephesians 2:5, 00:11:38.96\00:11:42.23 "When we were dead in sins, 00:11:42.26\00:11:44.20 he quickened us together with Christ, 00:11:44.23\00:11:45.57 by grace, you're saved." 00:11:45.60\00:11:47.17 So this house is dead. 00:11:47.20\00:11:48.54 I mean, it is dead like it is a 1924 dead house. 00:11:48.57\00:11:52.51 And John is just, you know, God, 00:11:52.54\00:11:55.24 His name is John DioAnn, and he's got the tools, 00:11:55.28\00:11:59.11 God has given him the wisdom and the ability to do this. 00:11:59.15\00:12:01.28 And I think when we look at that illustration, 00:12:01.32\00:12:03.45 we see God and He's got the tools 00:12:03.49\00:12:05.25 and He's got the wisdom and He's got the grace 00:12:05.29\00:12:07.99 to do for us 00:12:08.02\00:12:09.36 what John is doing with that house 00:12:09.39\00:12:10.73 and deal with all the surprises. 00:12:10.76\00:12:12.09 Wow. 00:12:12.13\00:12:13.46 You know, honey, sometimes people look dead, 00:12:13.50\00:12:14.83 like, there's no hope. 00:12:14.86\00:12:16.50 And I like that illustration. 00:12:16.53\00:12:17.90 It just looks like just get rid of it. 00:12:17.93\00:12:20.30 But the Lord looks at it and says, "Wow, no, 00:12:20.34\00:12:22.90 I don't see him the way you see him." 00:12:22.94\00:12:26.04 Okay. 00:12:26.07\00:12:27.41 It's like my plant, remember years ago, 00:12:27.44\00:12:29.38 I had a little old... 00:12:29.41\00:12:31.68 Stem. 00:12:31.71\00:12:33.05 A stem, you know, 00:12:33.08\00:12:34.42 you're into replanting pineapples 00:12:34.45\00:12:36.92 and things like that. 00:12:36.95\00:12:38.45 He says, Caribbean people, we love our little... 00:12:38.49\00:12:41.12 Anyway, I had a little stem of a plant. 00:12:41.16\00:12:43.89 Irritating stem. 00:12:43.93\00:12:45.26 And it just had a little root. 00:12:45.29\00:12:47.93 And you were in the kitchen 00:12:47.96\00:12:49.46 and you went in there and said, 00:12:49.50\00:12:50.83 "Oh, man, throw this out." 00:12:50.87\00:12:52.20 I said, "Don't throw it out!" 00:12:52.23\00:12:53.57 She said, "Don't throw out my plant." 00:12:53.60\00:12:55.30 My plant. 00:12:55.34\00:12:56.67 And I looked at this thing, 00:12:56.71\00:12:58.04 it looked like a green stem that lost its way 00:12:58.07\00:13:02.51 trying to find the rest of the plant. 00:13:02.54\00:13:04.48 And I thought, "Honey..." 00:13:04.51\00:13:05.85 It was a white plastic cup with a little bit of water 00:13:05.88\00:13:08.32 and it was just hanging over the edge like, 00:13:08.35\00:13:09.68 "I'm tired. I just want to die. 00:13:09.72\00:13:11.39 Please let me die, don't keep me awake." 00:13:11.42\00:13:12.99 And I said "Honey, 00:13:13.02\00:13:14.36 what are you going to do with this?" 00:13:14.39\00:13:15.72 I took care of that plant. 00:13:15.76\00:13:17.09 I watered it. 00:13:17.13\00:13:18.46 Next thing you know, roots started coming in. 00:13:18.49\00:13:20.80 It looked real lame, but it was so pretty. 00:13:20.83\00:13:23.43 Little leafy looking thing 00:13:23.47\00:13:25.87 and it was just limp and the next thing you know, 00:13:25.90\00:13:27.57 it started perking up, and I put it in the sunshine, 00:13:27.60\00:13:30.74 and it started looking nice. 00:13:30.77\00:13:32.37 And another little leaf started growing 00:13:32.41\00:13:34.18 and another one, another one. 00:13:34.21\00:13:36.01 And next thing you know, 00:13:36.04\00:13:37.38 I put it in a pot, potted plant. 00:13:37.41\00:13:40.15 I put it in dirt and in the pot and mix. 00:13:40.18\00:13:43.22 What happened? 00:13:43.25\00:13:44.59 About six months later... 00:13:44.62\00:13:45.95 It was beautiful. She gave it away. 00:13:45.99\00:13:47.32 I gave it away as a gift to someone that got married, 00:13:47.36\00:13:49.82 and it was absolutely gorgeous. 00:13:49.86\00:13:52.13 The one you wanted to throw out. 00:13:52.16\00:13:55.03 And she said, "See, 00:13:55.06\00:13:57.47 what you see and what I saw are not the same." 00:13:57.50\00:13:59.37 Exactly, it's not the same. 00:13:59.40\00:14:01.34 That's right. 00:14:01.37\00:14:02.70 I would like to add something to restoring the house idea 00:14:02.74\00:14:06.34 because, you know, as you were talking, 00:14:06.37\00:14:07.84 it made me think of what God does inside, 00:14:07.88\00:14:11.11 you know, the people watching, passing by, 00:14:11.15\00:14:13.72 they don't know what's going on inside the house. 00:14:13.75\00:14:16.72 All the work that's been done to restore the walls, 00:14:16.75\00:14:19.32 tear down things. 00:14:19.35\00:14:20.69 And when the house is done, it's just beautiful. 00:14:20.72\00:14:24.53 You know, in Israel, 00:14:24.56\00:14:26.83 they told us about the buildings, 00:14:26.86\00:14:28.23 they want to maintain this old look. 00:14:28.26\00:14:31.10 And there's this one architect 00:14:31.13\00:14:33.34 that went to the government says, 00:14:33.37\00:14:35.24 "I need to build something, and I can't get in 00:14:35.27\00:14:37.61 and do the things I need to do." 00:14:37.64\00:14:39.54 And he says, "No, you need to maintain that." 00:14:39.57\00:14:40.91 So he somehow convinced them 00:14:40.94\00:14:43.65 that he could put everything back the way it was. 00:14:43.68\00:14:47.45 And he put numbers and things 00:14:47.48\00:14:50.59 on each and every piece of stone or brick. 00:14:50.62\00:14:53.99 And so then he took everything down and rebuilt, 00:14:54.02\00:14:58.73 built something beautiful inside, 00:14:58.76\00:15:00.86 and then put everything back outside. 00:15:00.90\00:15:02.73 So God does the work inside of us 00:15:02.76\00:15:05.13 that people don't know, 00:15:05.17\00:15:06.53 but it's reflected on the outside, 00:15:06.57\00:15:08.20 you know, your demeanor changes, 00:15:08.24\00:15:10.41 you know, the same angry, you know, jealous 00:15:10.44\00:15:12.44 or whatever it was that you had, 00:15:12.47\00:15:14.41 and this work inside that God does, 00:15:14.44\00:15:18.08 us in cooperation with him, 00:15:18.11\00:15:20.45 and we praise the Lord 00:15:20.48\00:15:22.18 because it says that, 00:15:22.22\00:15:23.55 "He who has begun a good work in us 00:15:23.59\00:15:26.65 will complete it." 00:15:26.69\00:15:28.02 And so we need to cooperate with Him 00:15:28.06\00:15:29.96 so that that can happen. 00:15:29.99\00:15:32.16 I'm glad you mentioned that 00:15:32.19\00:15:33.53 because that's what we're talking about here. 00:15:33.56\00:15:36.23 There's a work it starts on the inside first 00:15:36.26\00:15:38.47 because what starts on the inside 00:15:38.50\00:15:39.83 is eventually going to manifest itself on the outside. 00:15:39.87\00:15:43.77 Woman at first is pregnant internally 00:15:43.81\00:15:45.44 before it starts showing up externally. 00:15:45.47\00:15:47.58 And if Christ is being born in you, 00:15:47.61\00:15:49.18 the process that's happening inside 00:15:49.21\00:15:51.18 will eventually manifest itself outside. 00:15:51.21\00:15:53.55 But I want to also point out now, 00:15:53.58\00:15:55.25 and sometimes people might be listening 00:15:55.28\00:15:57.12 to the program and say, 00:15:57.15\00:15:58.49 "Well, I don't think that they are worthy of grace. 00:15:58.52\00:16:00.52 I mean, what they have done 00:16:00.56\00:16:01.89 is just not really worthy of grace." 00:16:01.92\00:16:03.46 I think what we need to do now 00:16:03.49\00:16:05.19 is remind if that is a mindset 00:16:05.23\00:16:07.96 that's existing maybe in the mind of a person 00:16:08.00\00:16:09.73 who's watching the program, 00:16:09.76\00:16:11.30 we have to square it away 00:16:11.33\00:16:13.10 and help you understand 00:16:13.13\00:16:14.90 that what we're talking about 00:16:14.94\00:16:16.37 is what you have already received. 00:16:16.40\00:16:18.54 Let's look at the second text. 00:16:18.57\00:16:20.14 Titus 2, honey, verse 11, 12. 00:16:20.18\00:16:22.68 Read that for us. 00:16:22.71\00:16:24.05 This lets you know that... 00:16:24.08\00:16:26.45 Well, I'll let the text speak for itself. 00:16:26.48\00:16:29.28 Titus 2:8, 9, right? 00:16:29.32\00:16:32.39 No versus 11 and 12, no. Titus 2: 11, 12. 00:16:32.42\00:16:36.69 "For the grace of God that brings salvation 00:16:36.73\00:16:39.46 has appeared to all men, 00:16:39.49\00:16:41.43 teaching us that denying ungodliness 00:16:41.46\00:16:44.47 and worldly lusts, 00:16:44.50\00:16:46.97 we should live soberly, righteously, 00:16:47.00\00:16:49.10 and godly in the present age." 00:16:49.14\00:16:51.84 Okay, now what did that text say about grace? 00:16:51.87\00:16:54.08 Let me throw it to my panelists here. 00:16:54.11\00:16:55.81 What did you hear in that verse 00:16:55.84\00:16:57.45 about the grace of God that brings salvation? 00:16:57.48\00:16:59.81 What else does it bring? 00:16:59.85\00:17:01.18 What else does it bring with it? 00:17:01.22\00:17:03.22 Oh, tremendous blessings. 00:17:03.25\00:17:05.75 Okay. 00:17:05.79\00:17:07.12 But what else did he say it brought with it? 00:17:07.16\00:17:08.82 Live soberly... 00:17:08.86\00:17:10.19 Teaching. Okay. 00:17:10.23\00:17:11.69 Teaching us how to live in this world in a godly way, 00:17:11.73\00:17:14.66 in a way that is opposite of worldly lusts. 00:17:14.70\00:17:20.74 It's a way that's sober, that's righteous, 00:17:20.77\00:17:25.21 and it's now. 00:17:25.24\00:17:26.57 So and this comes to every man. 00:17:26.61\00:17:28.34 I really believe this verse is applicable to every person. 00:17:28.38\00:17:31.28 I believe that there are even people 00:17:31.31\00:17:33.25 who don't realize 00:17:33.28\00:17:34.62 that they're being influenced by grace. 00:17:34.65\00:17:35.98 Sometimes we think of people that aren't religious. 00:17:36.02\00:17:39.69 "Oh, that's a good person. 00:17:39.72\00:17:41.06 They're not religious, but they're a good person." 00:17:41.09\00:17:42.42 Well, they're a good person because grace, 00:17:42.46\00:17:44.86 the grace of God envelops the air we breathe, 00:17:44.89\00:17:47.16 and the influence of the Spirit of God 00:17:47.20\00:17:49.03 works upon every human being. 00:17:49.06\00:17:50.83 And I think whenever someone does 00:17:50.87\00:17:52.20 something good, 00:17:52.23\00:17:53.57 it's because the grace of God is influencing them. 00:17:53.60\00:17:55.70 I believe that's what this verse is saying. 00:17:55.74\00:17:57.67 But sometimes I think what we do is we stop, 00:17:57.71\00:18:00.04 you know, with our goodness, if you will. 00:18:00.08\00:18:04.41 And we think, "Well, yeah, I'm a good person. 00:18:04.45\00:18:06.05 So I don't really need God, I don't really need religion." 00:18:06.08\00:18:08.68 But I think what this verse is saying 00:18:08.72\00:18:10.05 is the grace of God that comes to you, 00:18:10.09\00:18:12.02 that leads you to do that good thing 00:18:12.05\00:18:14.19 is wanting to continue 00:18:14.22\00:18:16.69 and to actually influence and impact you, 00:18:16.73\00:18:19.23 and lead you to live a more godly life 00:18:19.26\00:18:21.80 and a more sober life 00:18:21.83\00:18:23.16 and to live more righteously in this present world. 00:18:23.20\00:18:26.94 Don't just stop with that good deed 00:18:26.97\00:18:28.64 of helping that person 00:18:28.67\00:18:30.01 or doing this or doing that and think, 00:18:30.04\00:18:31.37 "Oh, I'm a good person," 00:18:31.41\00:18:32.74 you know, allow the grace of God 00:18:32.77\00:18:34.34 to continue to mold you and to influence you 00:18:34.38\00:18:36.95 and impact your life. 00:18:36.98\00:18:38.31 Right. 00:18:38.35\00:18:39.68 And then now the passage pointed out 00:18:39.71\00:18:42.65 that every one of us has received grace. 00:18:42.68\00:18:44.49 Yes. 00:18:44.52\00:18:45.85 Have you received grace, honey? 00:18:45.89\00:18:47.22 Oh, absolutely. Yes. 00:18:47.26\00:18:49.02 Okay, we all agree 00:18:49.06\00:18:50.39 we have all received grace, but... 00:18:50.43\00:18:52.39 And we need to extend grace. Right. 00:18:52.43\00:18:54.66 And we're going to go there in just a minute, extending, 00:18:54.70\00:18:56.80 and this is powerful, 00:18:56.83\00:18:58.17 but it says the grace that God gives you, 00:18:58.20\00:18:59.97 it's not just says, "Okay, I forgive you." 00:19:00.00\00:19:01.97 But it says, "I want to teach you now 00:19:02.00\00:19:04.11 how to take that grace," 00:19:04.14\00:19:06.31 as Paul says, I think it's in Romans 60 says, 00:19:06.34\00:19:09.61 "Do we continue in sin that grace may abound?" 00:19:09.64\00:19:12.71 And the answer of that is... 00:19:12.75\00:19:14.25 God forbid. God forbid, certainly not. 00:19:14.28\00:19:17.09 So don't just say, "God saved me." 00:19:17.12\00:19:19.35 He doesn't just want to save us or buy the house, 00:19:19.39\00:19:22.76 as a great example we're going to continue with, 00:19:22.79\00:19:24.39 He doesn't just want to buy the house, 00:19:24.43\00:19:26.29 but He wants to restore it. 00:19:26.33\00:19:27.83 And in our lives, restoration means teaching us. 00:19:27.86\00:19:31.20 That's the teaching process that's continual. 00:19:31.23\00:19:33.90 And we've been talking about that. 00:19:33.94\00:19:37.14 You know, that book you have 00:19:37.17\00:19:39.21 talks about some great examples. 00:19:39.24\00:19:40.64 The one that I really appreciate 00:19:40.68\00:19:42.01 was the young lady who bought her mom, 00:19:42.04\00:19:45.35 you know... 00:19:45.38\00:19:46.72 Look for that. 00:19:46.75\00:19:48.08 I want you to share that in a minute. 00:19:48.12\00:19:49.45 But while you're looking for that, 00:19:49.48\00:19:50.82 Pastor Dinzey. 00:19:50.85\00:19:52.19 Yes. 00:19:52.22\00:19:53.56 You know, this 2 Timothy... 00:19:53.59\00:19:54.92 I mean, Titus 2:11, 12, 00:19:54.96\00:19:57.26 it talks about the way things are in the world as well 00:19:57.29\00:20:01.06 because it's saying denying ungodliness. 00:20:01.10\00:20:03.16 Is that in the world? Yes. 00:20:03.20\00:20:04.80 Worldly lust, is that in the world? 00:20:04.83\00:20:06.17 Yes. 00:20:06.20\00:20:07.54 And it says that we should live soberly, 00:20:07.57\00:20:08.90 righteously and godly in the present age. 00:20:08.94\00:20:11.97 In other words, 00:20:12.01\00:20:13.34 God is calling us to live differently 00:20:13.38\00:20:14.74 than what the world is living. 00:20:14.78\00:20:17.08 You know, one of the things that happens to people, 00:20:17.11\00:20:19.75 I remember one time when... 00:20:19.78\00:20:21.62 Actually first time I went to Cuba, 00:20:21.65\00:20:24.05 there was a... 00:20:24.09\00:20:26.02 We were all there in a group and somebody said, 00:20:26.05\00:20:29.22 "Well, everybody steals in Cuba." 00:20:29.26\00:20:32.16 And I said, "Oh, really?" 00:20:32.19\00:20:34.50 And he was shocked. 00:20:34.53\00:20:36.10 "Well, it's tough living here, you know?" 00:20:36.13\00:20:39.77 And so I ran into other people that said, 00:20:39.80\00:20:43.81 "God takes care of us." 00:20:43.84\00:20:45.91 Now are these people stealing? No. 00:20:45.94\00:20:47.28 They saw that God supplies our needs. 00:20:47.31\00:20:50.75 But this person 00:20:50.78\00:20:52.11 apparently had come to the realization that, 00:20:52.15\00:20:54.12 "Okay, in order for me to survive, 00:20:54.15\00:20:56.02 I have to steal." 00:20:56.05\00:20:57.39 But that was not the case with the other people 00:20:57.42\00:20:58.79 that they saw God supplying their needs. 00:20:58.82\00:21:01.62 And so when we are in the world, 00:21:01.66\00:21:05.89 there's a danger 00:21:05.93\00:21:07.26 that we can become like the world. 00:21:07.30\00:21:10.23 And so wherever we are, 00:21:10.27\00:21:12.17 we are to let our light, so shine 00:21:12.20\00:21:14.14 that they may see our good works 00:21:14.17\00:21:15.80 and glorify God, 00:21:15.84\00:21:18.11 our Heavenly Father, 00:21:18.14\00:21:19.71 from whom comes all these good works 00:21:19.74\00:21:21.84 and things that we do. 00:21:21.88\00:21:23.45 So yes, the grace of God makes this happen. 00:21:23.48\00:21:28.38 It's a power that God gives us 00:21:28.42\00:21:32.95 and it's a marvelous thing that can take place, 00:21:32.99\00:21:35.52 God transforming a person that... 00:21:35.56\00:21:38.69 "Wait a minute, 00:21:38.73\00:21:40.06 weren't you that person that was, 00:21:40.10\00:21:41.90 you know, wicked, and evil or drunk?" 00:21:41.93\00:21:44.50 But God transforms people, and He's still doing that. 00:21:44.53\00:21:47.60 And this teaching part is transformed 00:21:47.64\00:21:49.34 by the renewing of your mind. 00:21:49.37\00:21:51.74 He's teaching you mentally 00:21:51.77\00:21:53.27 that you don't have to be that same person anymore. 00:21:53.31\00:21:55.88 That's why what I like about the Bible, you've seen... 00:21:55.91\00:21:59.11 Okay, go ahead, honey. 00:21:59.15\00:22:00.48 You can finish your thought. That's why... 00:22:00.52\00:22:02.28 I see you percolating it. 00:22:02.32\00:22:04.12 That's what I like in the Bible, 00:22:04.15\00:22:05.49 when the Lord changes people, 00:22:05.52\00:22:07.02 you find He also gives them a status 00:22:07.06\00:22:09.66 where the anonymity now exists. 00:22:09.69\00:22:12.56 Saul, Paul now, okay? 00:22:12.59\00:22:15.23 And we're going to all have a new name in the kingdom. 00:22:15.26\00:22:17.77 What's on your mind? 00:22:17.80\00:22:20.80 So much. Okay. 00:22:20.84\00:22:22.17 I was talking about... 00:22:22.20\00:22:23.54 I was thinking 00:22:23.57\00:22:24.91 if someone in the church falls and make a terrible fall, 00:22:24.94\00:22:27.74 a moral fall 00:22:27.78\00:22:29.11 that the Lord could restore that person. 00:22:29.14\00:22:31.35 We may not see them as... 00:22:31.38\00:22:34.42 We do not see them as God sees them, 00:22:34.45\00:22:37.02 but God restores that person, gives them a new life, 00:22:37.05\00:22:40.86 a new heart, 00:22:40.89\00:22:42.22 and we can't look at them the same. 00:22:42.26\00:22:44.26 We have to go by scripture. 00:22:44.29\00:22:46.49 You know, the Lord changes the person. 00:22:46.53\00:22:49.30 They are not the old person, they've become new, 00:22:49.33\00:22:52.17 all things are new, 00:22:52.20\00:22:53.54 so you don't have to be someone 00:22:53.57\00:22:54.90 that's out there and come back in the church. 00:22:54.94\00:22:56.77 Sometimes it's in the church that, you know, 00:22:56.81\00:22:59.57 you fall from grace, and the Lord restores you. 00:22:59.61\00:23:02.94 You look at that life 00:23:02.98\00:23:04.31 and you see how that person is today. 00:23:04.35\00:23:06.82 That's right. It's beautiful. 00:23:06.85\00:23:08.18 I love that illustration that you brought up earlier 00:23:08.22\00:23:10.69 in relation to what you just said, Angela, 00:23:10.72\00:23:12.72 about Barnabas and Paul or Saul because Saul, 00:23:12.75\00:23:18.53 you know, 00:23:18.56\00:23:19.89 as bad as he was persecuting the church, 00:23:19.93\00:23:21.80 for some reason God saw him as, 00:23:21.83\00:23:26.80 you know, honest to some degree, 00:23:26.84\00:23:28.44 you know? 00:23:28.47\00:23:29.80 When He came to Saul, God said, 00:23:29.84\00:23:32.41 "Why are you persecuting Me, Saul?" 00:23:32.44\00:23:35.08 And Saul said, "Well, who are you, Lord?" 00:23:35.11\00:23:37.58 That's right. 00:23:37.61\00:23:38.95 It was kind of like, he really... 00:23:38.98\00:23:40.48 And I remember reading about this experience of Paul, 00:23:40.52\00:23:45.02 some commentary on it was like 00:23:45.05\00:23:46.45 he really was convinced that he was doing right. 00:23:46.49\00:23:49.69 But his conscience struggled with, 00:23:49.72\00:23:52.69 you know, what happened with Stephen, 00:23:52.73\00:23:54.06 but his religious leaders and people that influenced him 00:23:54.10\00:23:57.73 will tell him, "No, no, no, no, 00:23:57.77\00:23:59.10 that was right, and you're doing right, 00:23:59.13\00:24:00.50 and this is good," and he was struggling. 00:24:00.54\00:24:02.67 And so Paul under the grace of God changes. 00:24:02.70\00:24:07.31 And then he... 00:24:07.34\00:24:08.68 You explained that scenario. 00:24:08.71\00:24:10.18 I'd never heard it before. Yeah. 00:24:10.21\00:24:11.55 You explained it, you know, his relationship with... 00:24:11.58\00:24:14.22 Barnabas. With Barnabas. 00:24:14.25\00:24:15.68 And the church was really hesitant 00:24:15.72\00:24:17.72 to accept Paul. 00:24:17.75\00:24:19.09 That's the point you just made. 00:24:19.12\00:24:20.46 You know, when you have a... 00:24:20.49\00:24:21.82 When you're a mean person 00:24:21.86\00:24:23.19 or when you take a fall or something happens 00:24:23.22\00:24:24.56 as bad in your life, 00:24:24.59\00:24:25.93 church people can be reluctant to accept you. 00:24:25.96\00:24:28.23 And so that's what this experience 00:24:28.26\00:24:29.70 was with Paul or with Saul. 00:24:29.73\00:24:31.07 Right. 00:24:31.10\00:24:32.43 The church wasn't wanting to have 00:24:32.47\00:24:33.80 anything to do with him. 00:24:33.84\00:24:35.17 They're like, "No, no, we heard about this guy." 00:24:35.20\00:24:37.01 Yeah. But Paul was... 00:24:37.04\00:24:38.67 I mean, Barnabas, the son of consolation, 00:24:38.71\00:24:41.64 extended him the right hand of fellowship. 00:24:41.68\00:24:43.01 Amen. 00:24:43.04\00:24:44.38 And so Paul comes in, and then what happens? 00:24:44.41\00:24:46.58 I want you to read it because right here, 00:24:46.61\00:24:47.95 I think you have it right in front of you, hon, 00:24:47.98\00:24:49.32 that all the... 00:24:49.35\00:24:50.69 Oh, okay. 00:24:50.72\00:24:52.05 Go ahead. You know it. 00:24:52.09\00:24:53.42 Well, the story of Barnabas, 00:24:53.46\00:24:54.79 the church at Jerusalem had a very difficult time 00:24:54.82\00:24:56.19 even thinking about Saul and thought, 00:24:56.22\00:24:59.26 "My parents, my cousin, my aunt, my neighbors, 00:24:59.29\00:25:03.20 this is the guy that killed them." 00:25:03.23\00:25:04.57 Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I mean, really. 00:25:04.60\00:25:06.10 So if I get this correctly, 00:25:06.13\00:25:08.34 let's put this in a contemporary setting. 00:25:08.37\00:25:10.01 And the guy just walks in, they just, 00:25:10.04\00:25:11.54 he's guilty of so many Christians dying. 00:25:11.57\00:25:13.88 And he said, "He is going to be a part of our new ministry. 00:25:13.91\00:25:17.25 We're going to train him to be an outreach coordinator." 00:25:17.28\00:25:19.81 They said, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! 00:25:19.85\00:25:23.62 Are you talking about him? 00:25:23.65\00:25:25.65 I know exactly who he is. 00:25:25.69\00:25:27.46 We've been on the run for four years because of him." 00:25:27.49\00:25:31.69 And read that part about that. 00:25:31.73\00:25:33.06 That's important there. 00:25:33.09\00:25:34.90 So they could really take off on him now 00:25:34.93\00:25:37.47 and really pay him back. 00:25:37.50\00:25:39.23 That's why we need to read that part there 00:25:39.27\00:25:40.60 because what grace is. 00:25:40.64\00:25:42.70 That red part there. 00:25:42.74\00:25:44.41 "The opposite of grace might be retribution, 00:25:44.44\00:25:47.28 repayment in kind or punishment, 00:25:47.31\00:25:51.01 or the demand for reparations. 00:25:51.05\00:25:54.68 It wouldn't have been surprising 00:25:54.72\00:25:57.25 if to some if Ananias had refused to go to Saul 00:25:57.29\00:26:02.72 and had instead sent a note saying..." 00:26:02.76\00:26:04.96 Look at the note. You got to read this. 00:26:04.99\00:26:06.33 This note is the... 00:26:06.36\00:26:07.70 This is the note that he could have sent us up. 00:26:07.73\00:26:09.06 I love it. 00:26:09.10\00:26:10.43 "We hear you may have a change of heart about Christians. 00:26:10.47\00:26:11.97 If that's true, 00:26:12.00\00:26:13.34 get back to me in a couple of years. 00:26:13.37\00:26:14.84 If there has been no further hostile action 00:26:14.87\00:26:16.87 on your part between now and then, 00:26:16.91\00:26:18.84 we might meet in a neutral location. 00:26:18.87\00:26:20.91 In the meantime, 00:26:20.94\00:26:22.28 you might wish to think about repayment 00:26:22.31\00:26:23.65 for all the damages you've caused 00:26:23.68\00:26:25.41 because if there is nothing done, 00:26:25.45\00:26:27.68 we're going to sue your socks off. 00:26:27.72\00:26:30.09 Our church attorneys name is..." 00:26:30.12\00:26:32.79 They think about how they can deal with Saul. 00:26:32.82\00:26:34.16 Yeah, yeah. 00:26:34.19\00:26:35.52 But Barnabas comes in and goes on the line for Saul 00:26:35.56\00:26:39.43 and then we know the rest of the story. 00:26:39.46\00:26:41.50 Saul recognizes as you realize... 00:26:41.53\00:26:44.13 God, the Lord said, 00:26:44.17\00:26:46.94 "He is going to be useful in the ministry." 00:26:46.97\00:26:49.04 And Barnabas says, 00:26:49.07\00:26:50.41 "He is going to be useful in the Lord's work." 00:26:50.44\00:26:51.81 And we know we adore him today by saying 00:26:51.84\00:26:57.71 what a writer, 00:26:57.75\00:26:59.25 but look at who he was before, and he was restored. 00:26:59.28\00:27:04.19 When a person is restored, 00:27:04.22\00:27:06.52 that individual is useful in the hand of God. 00:27:06.55\00:27:09.02 By the grace of God restored him... 00:27:09.06\00:27:10.39 By the grace of God, exactly. 00:27:10.43\00:27:11.76 You know, I've been wondering if I should share this story 00:27:11.79\00:27:14.76 that I recently read in the ASI magazine 00:27:14.80\00:27:18.17 because it's a story, like Paul's story. 00:27:18.20\00:27:21.14 And I keep hearing you talking about Paul, 00:27:21.17\00:27:23.30 I say we got to share this thing 00:27:23.34\00:27:24.67 because this is a remarkable... 00:27:24.71\00:27:26.27 Something that happened today, let's say in today's time. 00:27:29.51\00:27:34.02 This story is being told by this Muslim man, 00:27:34.05\00:27:37.12 and I'm telling you the way it was written. 00:27:37.15\00:27:39.22 This Muslim man was, you know, this... 00:27:39.25\00:27:41.59 He was part of the Jihad 00:27:41.62\00:27:42.96 and he literally killed some Christians. 00:27:42.99\00:27:47.20 And he shot one Christian man that in his dying words, 00:27:47.23\00:27:51.43 he said, "Lord, forgive them 00:27:51.47\00:27:53.64 for they know not what they do." 00:27:53.67\00:27:56.57 And he died, this man shot him. 00:27:56.60\00:27:59.04 And so he grabbed the Bible, 00:27:59.07\00:28:02.44 the man that shot him grabbed the Bible 00:28:02.48\00:28:03.81 and he says, "Who does he think he is, 00:28:03.85\00:28:05.65 you know, saying that?" 00:28:05.68\00:28:07.85 And later he's at home with the Bible. 00:28:07.88\00:28:10.45 And at night, 00:28:10.49\00:28:12.25 God talks to him and says 00:28:12.29\00:28:16.69 that He is calling him 00:28:16.73\00:28:19.49 because He wants to use him for a special work. 00:28:19.53\00:28:22.36 And he goes, "Well, who are you?" 00:28:22.40\00:28:23.87 And He says, "I am Jesus Christ." 00:28:23.90\00:28:27.64 And he recognized the mess. 00:28:27.67\00:28:29.47 "Oh, you are Jesus Christ." 00:28:29.50\00:28:31.57 And the story is beautiful. 00:28:31.61\00:28:33.17 I hesitated to tell it because that the whole story 00:28:33.21\00:28:35.31 is not in there yet. 00:28:35.34\00:28:36.68 But this man, he says, "Who could believe, 00:28:36.71\00:28:40.05 "he says in the end, "that 18 months later, 00:28:40.08\00:28:42.95 I would be giving my life to Christ in baptism." 00:28:42.98\00:28:46.32 Wow! 00:28:46.35\00:28:47.69 So it's a remarkable story... 00:28:47.72\00:28:49.49 Yes. 00:28:49.52\00:28:50.86 That this man now 00:28:50.89\00:28:52.43 is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian. 00:28:52.46\00:28:55.16 And from what the story tells in the ASI magazine 00:28:55.20\00:28:59.13 that the Lord is going to use him 00:28:59.17\00:29:01.67 to do great things. 00:29:01.70\00:29:03.51 It's the same thing for him, you know? 00:29:03.54\00:29:06.64 He may not be recognized as Paul was or Saul was, 00:29:06.68\00:29:10.78 but this man now can reach people 00:29:10.81\00:29:14.18 from his old way of life, unlike anyone else. 00:29:14.22\00:29:18.45 Right. That's right. 00:29:18.49\00:29:19.82 Because you and I can come knocking at the door 00:29:19.85\00:29:21.79 of the people who used to be like, 00:29:21.82\00:29:23.79 and we will not be accepted, 00:29:23.83\00:29:26.06 but he knows their language, he knows their way of life, 00:29:26.09\00:29:28.43 he knows how to talk to them, to reach them for Christ. 00:29:28.46\00:29:31.63 Amen. Beautiful. 00:29:31.67\00:29:33.00 So today, God is doing miracles in the same way. 00:29:33.03\00:29:35.10 That's right. 00:29:35.14\00:29:36.47 And that's a powerful story. 00:29:36.50\00:29:38.57 And that's why when Jesus came, 00:29:38.61\00:29:40.48 you know, John introduced Jesus 00:29:40.51\00:29:42.64 as if we ask ourselves the question, 00:29:42.68\00:29:44.98 "Is there enough grace for us?" 00:29:45.01\00:29:46.65 The Bible introduced Jesus in John 1:14 00:29:46.68\00:29:49.88 as full of grace and truth. 00:29:49.92\00:29:53.29 So if somebody is full of grace and truth, 00:29:53.32\00:29:56.32 is there enough grace to turn your life 00:29:56.36\00:29:59.46 into a life of truth? 00:29:59.49\00:30:01.23 Yes, there is. Absolutely. 00:30:01.26\00:30:02.70 So, pastor, I want to go to Genesis 6:8 00:30:02.73\00:30:05.80 because I want to start talking 00:30:05.83\00:30:07.17 about how grace starts manifesting itself. 00:30:07.20\00:30:09.90 When grace is being extended from your life, my life, 00:30:09.94\00:30:13.27 or anybody's life to a person 00:30:13.31\00:30:15.18 who's coming from a broken world experience, 00:30:15.21\00:30:17.55 where do they start seeing this grace? 00:30:17.58\00:30:20.05 Look at Genesis 6:8. 00:30:20.08\00:30:23.32 I love the context of this 00:30:23.35\00:30:24.69 because God is just regretting, 00:30:24.72\00:30:26.59 like my friend has a couple times regretted 00:30:26.62\00:30:28.96 building that house, 00:30:28.99\00:30:32.09 but He says, "Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." 00:30:32.13\00:30:34.66 Wow. 00:30:34.70\00:30:36.03 And there's something about this whole project 00:30:36.06\00:30:38.63 that my friend's been involved and this is so biblical, 00:30:38.67\00:30:41.24 right now it's just clicking with me. 00:30:41.27\00:30:43.64 And that is that, you know, there are people coming by, 00:30:43.67\00:30:46.54 walking by in the neighborhood or whatever, 00:30:46.57\00:30:48.01 I was there for quite a few weeks 00:30:48.04\00:30:49.41 just helping him, 00:30:49.44\00:30:50.78 you know, in certain parts of the project, 00:30:50.81\00:30:52.18 and here we did the stairs in the front entry 00:30:52.21\00:30:54.38 and it was so cool. 00:30:54.42\00:30:55.75 Put a wall, and it was really nice. 00:30:55.78\00:30:57.62 And people will come by, one guy said, 00:30:57.65\00:30:59.39 "Man, I remember this house before. 00:30:59.42\00:31:01.02 It looks so nice right now." 00:31:01.06\00:31:02.39 And, of course, 00:31:02.42\00:31:03.76 they're not seeing the inside yet 00:31:03.79\00:31:05.13 and the outside doesn't look much changed 00:31:05.16\00:31:06.49 except for this, you know, front entryway. 00:31:06.53\00:31:09.16 But they're just kind of encouraging, 00:31:09.20\00:31:10.70 encouraging, encouraging. 00:31:10.73\00:31:12.20 And when we're very discouraged, 00:31:12.23\00:31:13.70 God is very discouraged here. 00:31:13.74\00:31:15.67 He's looking on the world and He's like, 00:31:15.70\00:31:17.21 "Man, look at that wall, 00:31:17.24\00:31:18.81 look at that floor, look at that roof. 00:31:18.84\00:31:21.58 It's one problem after... 00:31:21.61\00:31:22.94 "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 00:31:22.98\00:31:25.61 There was something there that gave him hope, 00:31:25.65\00:31:28.75 there was something there he could hold onto, you know, 00:31:28.78\00:31:30.59 there's something there that John is holding onto 00:31:30.62\00:31:32.15 in this house. 00:31:32.19\00:31:33.52 He's going, "Yes, there is potential here. 00:31:33.56\00:31:35.92 I see potential here." 00:31:35.96\00:31:37.33 Exactly. Yeah. 00:31:37.36\00:31:38.69 So we talked about this, honey. 00:31:38.73\00:31:40.56 So we're in this story, in this verse, 00:31:40.60\00:31:43.77 is the Bible telling you 00:31:43.80\00:31:47.20 that people can see grace in you. 00:31:47.24\00:31:48.90 Where can they see it? Say it, honey. 00:31:48.94\00:31:50.27 In your eyes. In your eyes. 00:31:50.31\00:31:52.07 He can. 00:31:52.11\00:31:53.44 How do you look at people 00:31:53.48\00:31:54.81 that you know are transgressors? 00:31:54.84\00:31:56.48 How do you look at people that you know 00:31:56.51\00:31:57.85 have done something 00:31:57.88\00:31:59.21 that the church members are talking about? 00:31:59.25\00:32:00.65 How do you look at them? 00:32:00.68\00:32:02.02 If they look at your eyes, 00:32:02.05\00:32:03.39 can they see grace or do they see... 00:32:03.42\00:32:05.85 "Uh-huh. I know what you did." 00:32:05.89\00:32:07.22 The human face has thousands of expressions. 00:32:07.26\00:32:10.33 And we just... Without saying a word. 00:32:10.36\00:32:11.69 Oh, we were talking about this week in my verse. 00:32:11.73\00:32:13.06 Yes. 00:32:13.09\00:32:14.43 Non-verbal communication is... 00:32:14.46\00:32:15.80 Is powerful. 00:32:15.83\00:32:17.17 More powerful than verbal communication. 00:32:17.20\00:32:18.63 Yes, just a look. 00:32:18.67\00:32:20.44 I'll use an example. 00:32:20.47\00:32:22.00 I really hate you. 00:32:22.04\00:32:23.37 I really hate you. 00:32:23.41\00:32:24.74 Would you believe that? 00:32:24.77\00:32:26.11 No. No. If I just say, "I love you. 00:32:26.14\00:32:28.18 I just want you to know, I really love you." 00:32:28.21\00:32:32.28 My face is not lining up with what I'm saying. 00:32:32.31\00:32:34.95 And our face... 00:32:34.98\00:32:36.45 What is beautiful about this 00:32:36.48\00:32:37.82 in the midst of a hopeless situation, 00:32:37.85\00:32:40.19 James, 00:32:40.22\00:32:42.56 Noah found something in God's eyes. 00:32:42.59\00:32:45.66 He looked in his eyes and told, 00:32:45.69\00:32:47.03 "Wow, I'm looking at his eyes. 00:32:47.06\00:32:48.76 There's grace there." 00:32:48.80\00:32:50.13 In this broken world that's about to be decimated, 00:32:50.17\00:32:52.87 Noah looked and he found grace in God's eye. 00:32:52.90\00:32:55.64 The first act of restoration to a person is broken 00:32:55.67\00:32:58.47 is how do they see grace in your eyes 00:32:58.51\00:33:00.84 or do they even see it? 00:33:00.88\00:33:02.34 When they look across the room in the church at you, 00:33:02.38\00:33:05.31 when you're walking down the hall 00:33:05.35\00:33:06.68 in the place you work, 00:33:06.72\00:33:08.05 and you know their stuff, and they see your eyes. 00:33:08.08\00:33:11.65 What do they see? 00:33:11.69\00:33:13.02 That's the first thing about grace. 00:33:13.05\00:33:14.46 Marriages, when you look at each other, 00:33:14.49\00:33:17.13 what do you see? 00:33:17.16\00:33:18.49 You know, and being married 37 years, 00:33:18.53\00:33:20.40 believe me, we've had many moments 00:33:20.43\00:33:21.76 where we needed each other's grace. 00:33:21.80\00:33:23.13 Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, I believe you. 00:33:23.16\00:33:25.67 Okay, okay. 00:33:25.70\00:33:28.00 Thirty-one years, I get it. All of us are married. 00:33:28.04\00:33:29.37 Thirty-one, thirty-seven... 00:33:29.40\00:33:31.34 Twenty-six. Twenty-six. 00:33:31.37\00:33:32.94 If you've been married 10 years or 7 years or 2 weeks, 00:33:32.97\00:33:36.58 you know... 00:33:36.61\00:33:37.95 One year. One year. 00:33:37.98\00:33:39.31 Grace is necessary. 00:33:39.35\00:33:40.68 Yeah. Yes. 00:33:40.72\00:33:42.05 Okay, let me throw it to one of you guys. 00:33:42.08\00:33:43.79 When you look at the situation with Noah, I mean, 00:33:43.82\00:33:47.69 it almost makes you, 00:33:47.72\00:33:50.66 "Ah, man, I want to meet Noah" 00:33:50.69\00:33:52.53 because Noah found grace in His sight. 00:33:52.56\00:33:55.83 And just like Noah then, there are Noahs today. 00:33:55.86\00:34:00.50 They may not have that name, 00:34:00.54\00:34:02.40 but they find grace in God's sight. 00:34:02.44\00:34:05.34 And I believe, 00:34:05.37\00:34:06.78 I really believe that the greater population 00:34:06.81\00:34:10.95 is blessed by these faithful people. 00:34:10.98\00:34:13.72 They find grace in God's sight. 00:34:13.75\00:34:15.95 You know, you could be on a plane 00:34:15.98\00:34:17.42 and because you're on that plane, 00:34:17.45\00:34:18.79 everybody else is safe. 00:34:18.82\00:34:20.16 Wow! 00:34:20.19\00:34:21.52 It could be, you know, walking down the street, 00:34:21.56\00:34:23.46 but God's grace is upon you, 00:34:23.49\00:34:26.29 the holy angels are protecting you. 00:34:26.33\00:34:27.66 Amen. That's right. 00:34:27.70\00:34:29.03 And God is still transforming lives. 00:34:29.06\00:34:33.23 And He doesn't give up easily, and I praise God for that. 00:34:33.27\00:34:36.77 Amen. Right. 00:34:36.81\00:34:38.14 So you can look at God on any given day 00:34:38.17\00:34:39.51 and still see grace in His eyes. 00:34:39.54\00:34:40.88 Isn't that wonderful, hon? Yeah, and that's Old Testament. 00:34:40.91\00:34:42.34 That's right. 00:34:42.38\00:34:43.71 Many people say 00:34:43.75\00:34:45.08 that grace is not in the Old Testament. 00:34:45.11\00:34:47.02 No. Yes, it is. 00:34:47.05\00:34:48.38 He's gracious, and merciful, and long suffering. 00:34:48.42\00:34:49.75 All the time. 00:34:49.78\00:34:51.12 Yes. 00:34:51.15\00:34:52.49 And one of the place... Yes, go ahead. 00:34:52.52\00:34:53.86 I was going to say one of the things too 00:34:53.89\00:34:55.22 is that, you know, 00:34:55.26\00:34:56.59 when we look at Noah, 00:34:56.62\00:34:57.96 we're not looking at a perfect man. 00:34:57.99\00:34:59.33 When you look at his history after the flood, you know, 00:34:59.36\00:35:00.70 and his sons in their family, you see humanity, you see us. 00:35:00.73\00:35:03.97 That's right. 00:35:04.00\00:35:05.33 So just for our viewers to know, you know, 00:35:05.37\00:35:07.50 not for them to give up and think, 00:35:07.54\00:35:08.87 "Well, Noah was you know, exceptional and, you know, 00:35:08.90\00:35:11.41 grace is unmerited favor." 00:35:11.44\00:35:12.77 That's how it is. 00:35:12.81\00:35:14.14 When it comes to us, because it's unmerited favor, 00:35:14.18\00:35:16.85 it influences us as a power in our lives. 00:35:16.88\00:35:20.55 As soon as we give some kind of merit to grace, 00:35:20.58\00:35:23.28 we diminish its power and its influence in our lives. 00:35:23.32\00:35:25.92 And so as soon as we say, "Oh, Noah, 00:35:25.95\00:35:27.59 the reason is he was special, he had this or he had that, " 00:35:27.62\00:35:31.29 then all of a sudden Noah's in a category 00:35:31.33\00:35:32.76 that's different from the rest of us. 00:35:32.79\00:35:34.70 But what Noah was trying to do was communicate the grace 00:35:34.73\00:35:37.07 that he saw in God's eyes 00:35:37.10\00:35:38.43 to the rest of the Antediluvian World 00:35:38.47\00:35:40.24 for 120 years. 00:35:40.27\00:35:41.60 That's grace. 00:35:41.64\00:35:42.97 Not just for Noah, that's grace for everybody. 00:35:43.00\00:35:44.91 That's right. 00:35:44.94\00:35:46.27 Hundred and twenty years is a lot of grace 00:35:46.31\00:35:47.64 that God has given through the ridicule 00:35:47.68\00:35:49.18 and through the criticism and all the things 00:35:49.21\00:35:50.98 they were saying against Noah. 00:35:51.01\00:35:52.35 He was just spreading that grace out, 00:35:52.38\00:35:53.72 spreading that... 00:35:53.75\00:35:55.08 The grace he saw like you, I think, we're implying. 00:35:55.12\00:35:56.75 The grace that God has towards us in His eyes, 00:35:56.79\00:35:58.99 He wants us to now to have it toward other people. 00:35:59.02\00:36:01.42 And Noah had that grace. 00:36:01.46\00:36:02.92 He was allowing that grace 00:36:02.96\00:36:06.46 to flow out through him from God 00:36:06.49\00:36:08.96 to the Antediluvian World for 120 years. 00:36:09.00\00:36:10.77 That's right. 00:36:10.80\00:36:12.13 So they saw it in His eyes, 00:36:12.17\00:36:13.50 but that's in another place, so... 00:36:13.54\00:36:14.87 I never thought about that until you were saying that 00:36:14.90\00:36:16.40 because Noah found grace in God's sight, 00:36:16.44\00:36:20.94 how many years passed? 00:36:20.98\00:36:23.41 Hundred and twenty years. Long time. 00:36:23.45\00:36:25.85 I mean, he could have next week said, 00:36:25.88\00:36:27.78 "Okay, I'm done with being..." 00:36:27.82\00:36:29.45 I'm done with this. 00:36:29.48\00:36:30.82 No, he continued following the Lord. 00:36:30.85\00:36:32.69 Yeah. 00:36:32.72\00:36:34.12 And that is a marvelous thing 00:36:34.16\00:36:37.23 because it was in his heart to do the well of the Lord, 00:36:37.26\00:36:40.76 to serve the Lord. 00:36:40.80\00:36:42.13 I mean, I'm sure Satan knew 00:36:42.16\00:36:45.90 that Noah found grace in God's sight 00:36:45.93\00:36:47.80 and sent him on this special mission. 00:36:47.84\00:36:49.17 He knows. He said, "What's he doing? 00:36:49.20\00:36:50.54 What? 00:36:50.57\00:36:51.91 He's building this large, massive thing 00:36:51.94\00:36:53.41 that's not just for his family, you know?" 00:36:53.44\00:36:55.68 But this is a marvelous thing 00:36:55.71\00:36:57.65 that Satan apparently tried to derail Noah, 00:36:57.68\00:37:01.62 but Noah had his sight set on the Lord, 00:37:01.65\00:37:04.89 120 years Noah remained faithful. 00:37:04.92\00:37:08.19 Like you said, 00:37:08.22\00:37:10.39 he may have had those things inside, 00:37:10.43\00:37:11.99 but God continued to work in him 00:37:12.03\00:37:13.90 and that's what we need to, allow the Lord 00:37:13.93\00:37:15.66 to continue to work in us. 00:37:15.70\00:37:17.03 That's right. 00:37:17.07\00:37:18.40 I want to also... 00:37:18.43\00:37:19.77 Now we talked about the non-verbal communication. 00:37:19.80\00:37:21.20 Grace he found in God's eyes. 00:37:21.24\00:37:23.47 But now grace is also another place 00:37:23.51\00:37:25.17 that people are looking for grace. 00:37:25.21\00:37:26.91 Look at point number six. 00:37:26.94\00:37:28.44 We have a little outline. 00:37:28.48\00:37:29.81 This just kind of gets to the point very quickly. 00:37:29.84\00:37:31.51 Proverbs 22:11. 00:37:31.55\00:37:33.95 Read that. 00:37:33.98\00:37:35.32 Just on the outline there. 00:37:35.35\00:37:36.99 Pastor Rafferty, read that for us. 00:37:37.02\00:37:38.55 "He who loves purity of heart 00:37:38.59\00:37:41.96 and has grace on his lips, the king will be his friend." 00:37:41.99\00:37:45.53 Wow. 00:37:45.56\00:37:46.90 So the nonverbal is in the eyes, 00:37:46.93\00:37:50.17 but the verbal is where? 00:37:50.20\00:37:52.53 On the lips. 00:37:52.57\00:37:54.14 How do you sound when you meet people 00:37:54.17\00:37:57.31 that you know they're junk? 00:37:57.34\00:37:59.11 How do you sound? 00:37:59.14\00:38:01.61 "You doing okay? 00:38:01.64\00:38:04.01 You and I know you shouldn't be... 00:38:04.05\00:38:06.08 I understand how you feel, I mean, 00:38:06.11\00:38:08.08 look what you did." 00:38:08.12\00:38:09.92 When grace is on our lips. 00:38:09.95\00:38:12.02 That's why the Lord says, 00:38:12.05\00:38:13.56 "Your sins and your inequities, I will remember no more." 00:38:13.59\00:38:17.73 And He throws it into the depths of the sea 00:38:17.76\00:38:20.43 and puts out a No Fishing sign as so many people have said. 00:38:20.46\00:38:24.00 So grace is not only verbal... 00:38:24.03\00:38:27.30 I mean, not only non-verbal in the eyes but also verbal. 00:38:27.34\00:38:30.74 Daniel Chapter 9. Okay. 00:38:30.77\00:38:32.97 We have sent, 00:38:33.01\00:38:34.44 we have not listened to the prophets, 00:38:34.48\00:38:36.98 we have forsaken the covenant. 00:38:37.01\00:38:38.35 Yes. 00:38:38.38\00:38:39.71 Daniel had a we attitude. 00:38:39.75\00:38:41.08 You know, we're all sinners. 00:38:41.12\00:38:42.58 We all have this problem. 00:38:42.62\00:38:43.95 And sometimes, I think, when we forget that, 00:38:43.99\00:38:46.45 God allows us to stumble a little bit to remind us 00:38:46.49\00:38:49.06 that we're not better than anyone else. 00:38:49.09\00:38:51.06 And so I think the grace on the lips, 00:38:51.09\00:38:53.09 when we come to another human being 00:38:53.13\00:38:54.60 who's fallen and perhaps we're not in that, 00:38:54.63\00:38:56.67 you know, on that same level with them, 00:38:56.70\00:38:59.23 we need to remember that actually we are. 00:38:59.27\00:39:01.67 The ground is level at the foot of the cross. 00:39:01.70\00:39:03.27 Yes. 00:39:03.30\00:39:04.64 And so grace can come forth, you know, 00:39:04.67\00:39:06.07 there by the grace of God, go I. 00:39:06.11\00:39:08.48 And so we are gracious to others 00:39:08.51\00:39:10.08 because we know that 00:39:10.11\00:39:11.45 that person is another human being 00:39:11.48\00:39:13.45 that we would be that person, 00:39:13.48\00:39:16.08 given the circumstances, situation, 00:39:16.12\00:39:17.82 given some of the decisions we've made or could make, 00:39:17.85\00:39:20.36 and so then we become more gracious in the way 00:39:20.39\00:39:22.82 that we communicate. 00:39:22.86\00:39:24.19 I don't think it excludes being straight with people 00:39:24.23\00:39:25.89 and being honest with people. 00:39:25.93\00:39:27.26 Right. 00:39:27.30\00:39:28.63 I think it actually allows us to be honest with people. 00:39:28.66\00:39:30.27 Because the right motive is there. 00:39:30.30\00:39:32.13 Yes, the right motive is there. 00:39:32.17\00:39:33.50 The right attitude and the right spirit is there. 00:39:33.54\00:39:34.87 Yes. 00:39:34.90\00:39:36.24 When the right motive is behind it, 00:39:36.27\00:39:39.14 the words will be seasoned with grace 00:39:39.17\00:39:41.04 and it will come out of the lips that way. 00:39:41.08\00:39:42.41 Yes. 00:39:42.44\00:39:43.78 Instead of condemnatory, and the people will understand, 00:39:43.81\00:39:47.28 "Hey, you're trying to actually help me." 00:39:47.32\00:39:49.48 And you know... 00:39:49.52\00:39:50.85 I know there are some people that say, 00:39:50.89\00:39:52.42 "I had some constructive criticism 00:39:52.45\00:39:53.79 for you." 00:39:53.82\00:39:55.16 Oh, yes. Like a wrecking ball, maybe. 00:39:55.19\00:39:58.29 And when you hear the constructive criticism, 00:39:58.33\00:40:00.96 it sounds like destroying instead of constructive. 00:40:01.00\00:40:03.97 And so we really need to let God be in our hearts 00:40:04.00\00:40:07.80 so that the words that come out of our mouth 00:40:07.84\00:40:09.70 will be seasoned with grace. 00:40:09.74\00:40:12.51 Words of my mouth. 00:40:12.54\00:40:13.98 It's a process, you know, 00:40:14.01\00:40:18.31 some people are very quick to speak. 00:40:18.35\00:40:21.52 And before the brain is engaged, 00:40:21.55\00:40:25.52 the lips are in motion. 00:40:25.55\00:40:26.89 Okay. 00:40:26.92\00:40:28.26 And unfortunately, 00:40:28.29\00:40:29.62 we say things that we wish we could have never said, 00:40:29.66\00:40:33.06 and so that's why the Bible gives us 00:40:33.09\00:40:37.10 the very wise words, 00:40:37.13\00:40:39.23 be slow to speak, we have to hear. 00:40:39.27\00:40:41.74 Yeah, yeah. 00:40:41.77\00:40:43.10 Twice as many ears as we have lips. 00:40:43.14\00:40:45.81 James. Twice as many, what? 00:40:45.84\00:40:48.18 We have two ears and one set of lips. 00:40:48.21\00:40:50.71 I was just going to comment John 00:40:50.75\00:40:52.18 and just clarify the verse you mentioned. 00:40:52.21\00:40:54.28 You didn't quote it? No, I didn't quote it. 00:40:54.32\00:40:55.95 But you just said seasoned with grace. 00:40:55.98\00:40:57.95 And I was going to read this verse in Colossians 4:6. 00:40:57.99\00:41:00.26 It's one of my favorites. 00:41:00.29\00:41:01.72 "Let your speech be always with grace 00:41:01.76\00:41:03.53 seasoned with salt." 00:41:03.56\00:41:04.89 Amen. 00:41:04.93\00:41:06.26 Seasoning is the lighter end of what we put on our words, 00:41:06.29\00:41:08.76 the seasoning. 00:41:08.80\00:41:10.13 You know that the main entree is what we're going to eat. 00:41:10.17\00:41:11.93 I like that. 00:41:11.97\00:41:13.30 And season is what we sprinkle on. 00:41:13.34\00:41:14.67 And I think sometimes as Christians, 00:41:14.70\00:41:16.77 and I'll say this as an Adventist, 00:41:16.81\00:41:19.07 even as Adventist, 00:41:19.11\00:41:21.18 our main entree a lot of times is salt 00:41:21.21\00:41:23.61 and our seasoning is grace. 00:41:23.65\00:41:25.68 Whoa! That's right. 00:41:25.71\00:41:27.55 We've got it backwards, you know what I mean? 00:41:27.58\00:41:28.92 That's right. 00:41:28.95\00:41:30.29 And so the Bible says, let your speech be with grace. 00:41:30.32\00:41:33.15 Let the main entree be with grace. 00:41:33.19\00:41:34.82 Now I love potatoes. I'm Irish on my mother's side. 00:41:34.86\00:41:36.99 I love potatoes. 00:41:37.03\00:41:38.36 My wife loves beans, I love potatoes. 00:41:38.39\00:41:41.66 We have this thing in our house. 00:41:41.70\00:41:43.03 I think John can relate to that. 00:41:43.06\00:41:44.40 Oh, yes. 00:41:44.43\00:41:45.77 And yet, I can't eat potatoes without salt. 00:41:45.80\00:41:49.10 I got to have a little bit of salt on there. 00:41:49.14\00:41:50.64 You know, that's the seasoning. 00:41:50.67\00:41:52.14 And I think, in a world that is bland with inequity, 00:41:52.17\00:41:54.71 I mean, it's just like, inequity is everywhere. 00:41:54.74\00:41:57.11 Sometimes we forget the salt. 00:41:57.15\00:41:58.98 We can't forget the salt. 00:41:59.01\00:42:00.35 You know, we can't just have grace and no salt. 00:42:00.38\00:42:02.75 But then I think we kind of tend 00:42:02.78\00:42:04.75 to maybe go to the other extreme. 00:42:04.79\00:42:07.29 And, you know, everyone's talking about grace, 00:42:07.32\00:42:09.12 you know, and so we want to dump 00:42:09.16\00:42:10.49 a bunch of salt on it. 00:42:10.53\00:42:11.89 Oh, have you ever like, every once in a while, 00:42:11.93\00:42:14.06 my wife or I will over-season. 00:42:14.10\00:42:16.67 Like, "Honey, I'm sorry, it's too saltier." 00:42:16.70\00:42:18.57 My wife, "I'm sorry, honey, I put too much salt in there." 00:42:18.60\00:42:20.67 Oh, just... 00:42:20.70\00:42:22.04 I know that happens. 00:42:22.07\00:42:23.41 That happens. Yeah. 00:42:23.44\00:42:24.84 And that's where we are, I think, 00:42:24.87\00:42:26.21 sometimes in our Christian walk, 00:42:26.24\00:42:27.64 you know, where we... 00:42:27.68\00:42:29.01 That balance. 00:42:29.04\00:42:30.38 And, of course, I think God is saying 00:42:30.41\00:42:31.75 "Hey, main entree grace, but don't forget this, 00:42:31.78\00:42:33.78 don't forget the salt. 00:42:33.82\00:42:35.15 Season it correctly. I like that. 00:42:35.18\00:42:36.52 What are you thinking, honey? Beautiful. 00:42:36.55\00:42:38.22 I was thinking of David. 00:42:38.25\00:42:39.85 Many people are quick to point out David sinned, 00:42:39.89\00:42:42.62 but he was gracious to Saul, wasn't he? 00:42:42.66\00:42:45.46 Remember Saul, hon? 00:42:45.49\00:42:47.23 What happened with Saul? 00:42:47.26\00:42:48.60 He could've killed Saul, 00:42:48.63\00:42:50.10 but he was very gracious to Saul. 00:42:50.13\00:42:53.40 And that's the point I'm bringing 00:42:53.44\00:42:55.30 how gracious he was to Saul, 00:42:55.34\00:42:58.47 in spite of everybody says, 00:42:58.51\00:43:01.18 "Oh, look at David, look what he did." 00:43:01.21\00:43:03.35 Forget about what he did. 00:43:03.38\00:43:05.05 Lord restored him. You're going to say something. 00:43:05.08\00:43:07.68 You know, it's interesting you say that. 00:43:07.72\00:43:10.19 Because it was not just one time 00:43:10.22\00:43:12.52 that he had the opportunity to kill Saul. 00:43:12.55\00:43:14.42 That's right. 00:43:14.46\00:43:15.79 And sometimes the temptations that come our way, 00:43:15.82\00:43:21.06 Satan has already tempted us with those things, 00:43:21.10\00:43:24.27 and then somehow repeats it through somebody else 00:43:24.30\00:43:27.34 because, you know, the followers with David. 00:43:27.37\00:43:31.81 They would go, "David, David, David, there he is. 00:43:31.84\00:43:34.14 This is your chance." 00:43:34.18\00:43:35.51 This is an answer to prayer. 00:43:35.54\00:43:37.25 This is an answer to prayer. 00:43:37.28\00:43:38.71 And they could even use these Christian... 00:43:38.75\00:43:41.38 Providential. 00:43:41.42\00:43:42.75 Yeah, providential opportunity. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:43:42.78\00:43:44.45 And so we really have to be careful 00:43:44.49\00:43:46.15 because when it's in our heart to serve the Lord, 00:43:46.19\00:43:51.23 the devil is going to try to use 00:43:51.26\00:43:52.69 different things, different people, 00:43:52.73\00:43:54.46 and people that we even love to lead us into thinking, 00:43:54.50\00:44:01.20 "Maybe I should do this, you know, kill Saul." 00:44:01.24\00:44:03.00 Yeah, yeah. 00:44:03.04\00:44:04.37 But that's not what God wants us to do. 00:44:04.41\00:44:06.21 God has ways 00:44:06.24\00:44:08.71 to get what He wants accomplished 00:44:08.74\00:44:11.05 that if we do it according to His will, 00:44:11.08\00:44:13.65 better results, better results. 00:44:13.68\00:44:15.85 Imagine if he had killed Saul. 00:44:15.88\00:44:17.29 Wow, wow! 00:44:17.32\00:44:18.65 Saul threw the javelin at him, didn't he? 00:44:18.69\00:44:21.09 You know, we laugh about that every now and then 00:44:21.12\00:44:23.36 because when he summoned Saul, 00:44:23.39\00:44:25.59 when he was feeling all grievous and all downcast, 00:44:25.63\00:44:28.16 Saul summoned David... 00:44:28.20\00:44:29.53 Yes. Saul summoned David. 00:44:29.56\00:44:30.90 To play the harp. 00:44:30.93\00:44:32.27 And while he's playing the harp, 00:44:32.30\00:44:33.64 he throws a javelin at him, he try to pin him to the wall. 00:44:33.67\00:44:35.10 Yeah. 00:44:35.14\00:44:36.47 And said, "Boy, look, see, if I show up again..." 00:44:36.50\00:44:38.24 And he showed up again. 00:44:38.27\00:44:39.81 He continued to respond. 00:44:39.84\00:44:41.38 And now I said, what happened? 00:44:41.41\00:44:42.74 The javelin, the angel moved that javelin other way. 00:44:42.78\00:44:45.11 Redirected it so it wouldn't stab. 00:44:45.15\00:44:46.48 Redirected it. 00:44:46.51\00:44:47.85 Yeah, so it wouldn't have killed him. 00:44:47.88\00:44:49.22 What I want to do now is 00:44:49.25\00:44:50.59 I want to dive into some of the areas 00:44:50.62\00:44:51.95 where grace is now 00:44:51.99\00:44:53.32 how restorative grace really affects us. 00:44:53.36\00:44:56.06 Let's go to section number seven. 00:44:56.09\00:44:57.43 Did you want to share something before, honey? 00:44:57.46\00:44:58.79 No, nothing. Nothing. Okay. 00:44:58.83\00:45:00.16 Look at section number seven. 00:45:00.20\00:45:01.53 And they're very quick points I want to just rifle through. 00:45:01.56\00:45:04.73 The first one is in section seven. 00:45:04.77\00:45:07.77 Job... 00:45:07.80\00:45:09.14 Let's look at there. Here it is. 00:45:09.17\00:45:10.61 Section seven, Job 33:26, 00:45:10.64\00:45:14.48 Pastor Dinzey, you read that one for us. 00:45:14.51\00:45:16.31 This is showing all the areas of restoration. 00:45:16.34\00:45:18.78 "He shall pray to God, and He will delight in him, 00:45:18.81\00:45:22.45 He shall see His face with joy, 00:45:22.48\00:45:24.25 For He restores to man His righteousness." 00:45:24.29\00:45:27.56 Okay, so one of the first steps of restorative grace 00:45:27.59\00:45:30.93 is what is he restoring. 00:45:30.96\00:45:32.76 Righteousness. Righteousness. 00:45:32.79\00:45:34.13 His righteousness. 00:45:34.16\00:45:35.50 Thank you. 00:45:35.53\00:45:36.87 Say it again. His righteousness. 00:45:36.90\00:45:38.23 Yes, that makes all the difference. 00:45:38.27\00:45:39.60 Yeah, why is our righteous is not sufficient? 00:45:39.63\00:45:40.97 Come on, we know. Filthy rags. 00:45:41.00\00:45:42.34 Filthy. 00:45:42.37\00:45:43.71 Mostly, I think... 00:45:43.74\00:45:45.07 I mean, not mostly, but a main reason 00:45:45.11\00:45:46.44 is the motives behind are which we can't read many times. 00:45:46.47\00:45:48.38 What's motivating us? 00:45:48.41\00:45:50.31 And God's righteousness 00:45:50.35\00:45:51.68 was always motivated by selfless, 00:45:51.71\00:45:53.18 other-centered love. 00:45:53.21\00:45:54.55 Always. Completely pure. 00:45:54.58\00:45:56.52 Amen. 00:45:56.55\00:45:57.89 So the first thing He's restoring 00:45:57.92\00:45:59.25 His righteousness. 00:45:59.29\00:46:00.79 Ours would never do. 00:46:00.82\00:46:02.62 Even I like... 00:46:02.66\00:46:04.46 You know, we need another hour on this topic, 00:46:04.49\00:46:06.43 we can't get it tonight. 00:46:06.46\00:46:07.80 But when you talk about the salt, 00:46:07.83\00:46:10.63 we just came into the sermon, you know, seasoned. 00:46:10.67\00:46:14.54 It's a beautiful aspect of it. 00:46:14.57\00:46:16.44 So the first thing that God restores to us 00:46:16.47\00:46:18.81 is His righteousness, not our own. 00:46:18.84\00:46:22.74 But then there's something else 00:46:22.78\00:46:24.11 because when a person is broken, 00:46:24.15\00:46:25.48 something else they lose. 00:46:25.51\00:46:26.92 Let's look at Psalms 51:12 which is on point 7A, 00:46:26.95\00:46:31.02 "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation 00:46:31.05\00:46:34.12 and uphold me with Your generous Spirit." 00:46:34.16\00:46:36.52 Have you ever seen people 00:46:36.56\00:46:37.89 that have lost the joy of salvation? 00:46:37.93\00:46:39.46 I have. 00:46:39.49\00:46:40.83 I've lost the joy of salvation, so I know how that feels. 00:46:40.86\00:46:43.53 You know, 00:46:43.57\00:46:44.90 it's a completely different experience 00:46:44.93\00:46:46.27 when you are just in love with Jesus 00:46:46.30\00:46:47.90 and you've got that first love experience. 00:46:47.94\00:46:49.90 But when you're just doing it out of duty 00:46:49.94\00:46:51.37 and you feel like it's a formal ceremony 00:46:51.41\00:46:54.18 and you've just lost that inner joy... 00:46:54.21\00:46:55.94 I know what you mean. Yeah. 00:46:55.98\00:46:57.61 I think all of us go through that, 00:46:57.65\00:46:58.98 you know, from time to time, and it's overwhelming. 00:46:59.01\00:47:03.82 And David went through that in a huge way 00:47:03.85\00:47:05.82 because this comes right after his sin with Bathsheba 00:47:05.85\00:47:08.86 that you had mentioned earlier. 00:47:08.89\00:47:10.33 And so he's recognizing, 00:47:10.36\00:47:12.59 I think, that how far he had fallen 00:47:12.63\00:47:15.20 because, you know, it wasn't just the sin. 00:47:15.23\00:47:16.67 It was what led to it and then the aftereffects, 00:47:16.70\00:47:18.83 and self-righteousness, and cover up, and all that, 00:47:18.87\00:47:21.74 and he knew the only thing that could actually restore him 00:47:21.77\00:47:24.21 was the joy of salvation. 00:47:24.24\00:47:25.57 Right. And so he pleaded for that. 00:47:25.61\00:47:27.84 And like you said, a lot of people, 00:47:27.88\00:47:29.81 they want to sin like David, 00:47:29.84\00:47:31.65 but they don't want to repent like David. 00:47:31.68\00:47:33.01 Oh! Wow, wow! 00:47:33.05\00:47:35.15 That is... Woo-hoo, woo-hoo! 00:47:35.18\00:47:36.62 That is impacting. 00:47:36.65\00:47:37.99 Yes... 00:47:38.02\00:47:39.35 The only the way that repentance can come... 00:47:39.39\00:47:40.72 I was driving down the freeway again here 00:47:40.76\00:47:42.39 and it said, "Trust, Jesus repent." 00:47:42.42\00:47:45.23 Oh, yeah. 00:47:45.26\00:47:46.59 And the sign that I would love 00:47:46.63\00:47:47.96 to put up on a billboard one day 00:47:48.00\00:47:49.56 is based on Romans 2:4 00:47:49.60\00:47:52.53 because the word repent means to turn around 00:47:52.57\00:47:54.34 180 degrees. 00:47:54.37\00:47:55.70 And Romans 2:4 says, you know, 00:47:55.74\00:47:57.57 the goodness of God leads us to repentance. 00:47:57.61\00:47:59.47 So I'd like to put a billboard up that says, 00:47:59.51\00:48:01.48 "Let God's love turn you around." 00:48:01.51\00:48:03.48 Let God's love turn you around. 00:48:03.51\00:48:04.85 Let God's love turn you around. Wow. 00:48:04.88\00:48:06.38 Goodness of God, 00:48:06.41\00:48:07.75 the love of God turns you around 00:48:07.78\00:48:09.42 because when you're called to do something 00:48:09.45\00:48:11.75 in order to repent, trust Jesus repent. 00:48:11.79\00:48:14.12 It's not going to happen. Right, exactly. 00:48:14.16\00:48:15.82 God's the one that works it in our lives, 00:48:15.86\00:48:17.96 and David knows this. 00:48:17.99\00:48:19.86 He's the king and he's in this position, 00:48:19.89\00:48:21.46 but he's just been completely unmasked, unveiled, 00:48:21.50\00:48:25.23 and he's just barren. 00:48:25.27\00:48:26.70 He has nothing, nothing. Wow! 00:48:26.74\00:48:28.44 And he says, "Lord restore to me. 00:48:28.47\00:48:29.80 The joy of your salvation, I have nothing." 00:48:29.84\00:48:32.31 That's right. 00:48:32.34\00:48:33.68 And we're going through the book of Psalms now. 00:48:33.71\00:48:35.04 We have seen instance after instance 00:48:35.08\00:48:37.05 where David is downcast, he is disheartened, 00:48:37.08\00:48:39.98 he's lamenting, he feels, 00:48:40.02\00:48:41.98 "Lord, my enemies have surrounded me unjustly, 00:48:42.02\00:48:44.29 they are accusing me wrongly. 00:48:44.32\00:48:46.09 Father, don't just stand there, do nothing, 00:48:46.12\00:48:49.29 do something." 00:48:49.32\00:48:50.66 And when you read the book of Psalms, 00:48:50.69\00:48:52.03 it's 150 chapters, 00:48:52.06\00:48:53.56 but I tell you by chapter 86 or 87 00:48:53.60\00:48:56.43 where we are, we're saying, "Wow, I've really... 00:48:56.46\00:48:58.83 Now I'm getting to know David." 00:48:58.87\00:49:00.40 Yeah. 00:49:00.44\00:49:01.77 And in the interest of time, I want to hit the next one. 00:49:01.80\00:49:03.17 So first He restores his righteousness, 00:49:03.20\00:49:05.01 then He restores the joy. 00:49:05.04\00:49:06.98 But look at Psalm 23:3. 00:49:07.01\00:49:09.38 Honey, read that one. 00:49:09.41\00:49:10.75 This is special to me. Okay. 00:49:10.78\00:49:12.61 Before I read it, several years back, I was... 00:49:12.65\00:49:15.12 We were having... 00:49:15.15\00:49:16.48 I was having just a terrible... 00:49:16.52\00:49:19.05 Funky time. Terrible... 00:49:19.09\00:49:20.42 Yeah, in my life. And I had a dream. 00:49:20.46\00:49:24.96 And I woke up in the morning, and I started singing, 00:49:24.99\00:49:28.80 He Restoreth My Soul. 00:49:28.83\00:49:31.03 And there was like angels were singing that song. 00:49:31.07\00:49:34.24 And it was like a choir in my dream, 00:49:34.27\00:49:36.97 "He restoreth My Soul, " 00:49:37.01\00:49:38.81 just over and over, 00:49:38.84\00:49:40.48 and I woke up, He restoreth my soul. 00:49:40.51\00:49:43.21 And it was just... 00:49:43.24\00:49:44.58 Ooh! 00:49:44.61\00:49:45.95 When I think of it, it brings tears to my eyes. 00:49:45.98\00:49:47.68 But how the Lord restoreth my soul, 00:49:47.72\00:49:49.55 then we went to the store Hobby Lobby, 00:49:49.58\00:49:51.75 we found that beautiful placard. 00:49:51.79\00:49:55.02 It was a painting. 00:49:55.06\00:49:56.59 And it says, "He restores my soul." 00:49:56.62\00:49:59.09 So I want to share that with you right now 00:49:59.13\00:50:01.66 if I could get through my tears. 00:50:01.70\00:50:03.10 Where is it? Psalms 23:3. 00:50:03.13\00:50:04.90 Okay. 00:50:04.93\00:50:06.27 "He restores my soul, 00:50:06.30\00:50:08.17 He leads me in the path of righteousness 00:50:08.20\00:50:10.21 for His name's sake." 00:50:10.24\00:50:11.57 Amen. Wow! 00:50:11.61\00:50:12.94 And I feel like my soul has been restored. 00:50:12.97\00:50:15.31 Praise God. Amen. 00:50:15.34\00:50:17.05 And, you know, we talked about that. 00:50:17.08\00:50:18.41 So we have in our kitchen 00:50:18.45\00:50:19.78 a reflection of our journey, you know? 00:50:19.81\00:50:21.38 Oh, yeah. 00:50:21.42\00:50:22.75 And right there on this large piece of wood, 00:50:22.78\00:50:25.05 small piece of wood, etched in metal, 00:50:25.09\00:50:27.59 "He restores my soul." 00:50:27.62\00:50:29.29 And you know what, I want to say to you 00:50:29.32\00:50:30.66 if you're watching the program, as we're winding down, 00:50:30.69\00:50:32.03 we have a few more points. 00:50:32.06\00:50:33.40 The Lord wants to restore your soul 00:50:33.43\00:50:35.40 including His righteousness and the joy of His salvation. 00:50:35.43\00:50:39.63 Because we know we're saved, but sometimes as pastors, 00:50:39.67\00:50:42.64 we can get ready. 00:50:42.67\00:50:44.01 You know, we're locked into that whole thing of, 00:50:44.04\00:50:45.74 "We just can't handle, we just can't make it, 00:50:45.77\00:50:48.44 we just can't deal with life and what's coming to us." 00:50:48.48\00:50:51.68 So we're at that place where, you know, 00:50:51.71\00:50:53.72 it's difficult to deal with life. 00:50:53.75\00:50:55.48 And we say, "Lord, restore us completely." 00:50:55.52\00:50:58.02 and He does it. 00:50:58.05\00:50:59.39 One more, another one. 00:50:59.42\00:51:01.52 Now, Pastor Dinzey, Jeremiah 27:22. 00:51:01.56\00:51:04.99 Jeremiah 27:22. 00:51:05.03\00:51:07.16 "'They shall be carried to Babylon, 00:51:07.20\00:51:09.33 and there they shall be 00:51:09.36\00:51:10.93 until the day that I visit them, ' 00:51:10.97\00:51:12.53 says the Lord. 00:51:12.57\00:51:13.90 'Then I will bring them up 00:51:13.94\00:51:15.27 and restore them to this place.'" 00:51:15.30\00:51:17.57 Oh. 00:51:17.61\00:51:18.94 That's another powerful one. 00:51:18.97\00:51:20.81 You may have lost your place, but when Lord visits you, 00:51:20.84\00:51:24.81 He'll restore you to that place. 00:51:24.85\00:51:26.31 Beautiful. James. 00:51:26.35\00:51:27.68 John, I just... 00:51:27.72\00:51:29.05 You know, you said we know we're saved. 00:51:29.08\00:51:30.42 You mentioned that we know we're saved. 00:51:30.45\00:51:31.79 And you've said that a couple of times in it, 00:51:31.82\00:51:33.15 just led me to the verse here in 2 Corinthians 1:10 00:51:33.19\00:51:37.53 because I think a lot of times, 00:51:37.56\00:51:38.89 we misunderstand what salvation is. 00:51:38.93\00:51:40.26 That's right. 00:51:40.30\00:51:41.63 I'm sure you're familiar with this verse, 00:51:41.66\00:51:43.00 you know, as pastors, 00:51:43.03\00:51:44.37 it's something that's really hit home 00:51:44.40\00:51:45.93 with me many times. 00:51:45.97\00:51:47.30 2 Corinthians 1:10 00:51:47.34\00:51:50.31 is describing what salvation looks like. 00:51:50.34\00:51:52.31 Yes. 00:51:52.34\00:51:53.68 And Paul's speaking here and he's talking about the Lord 00:51:53.71\00:51:56.61 that raised up, you know, Jesus from the dead 00:51:56.64\00:51:58.85 and he says, "who delivered us from so great a death, " 00:51:58.88\00:52:02.42 that's past, 00:52:02.45\00:52:03.79 "Does deliver," that's present, 00:52:03.82\00:52:06.49 "in whom we trust that He will yet deliver us, " 00:52:06.52\00:52:09.09 that's future. 00:52:09.12\00:52:10.46 That's right. 00:52:10.49\00:52:11.83 Salvation is past, present, and future. 00:52:11.86\00:52:14.06 That's right. 00:52:14.10\00:52:15.43 Sometimes we think of salvation is a one-time act. 00:52:15.46\00:52:17.63 No, it's not a one-time act. That's just part of it. 00:52:17.67\00:52:19.70 It's a three-part thing. 00:52:19.73\00:52:21.07 And that's why when we talk about salvation, 00:52:21.10\00:52:22.57 we talk about justification, we talk about sanctification, 00:52:22.60\00:52:25.47 but we also have to remember glorification. 00:52:25.51\00:52:27.84 That's just as vital a part of salvation. 00:52:27.88\00:52:30.11 And those three parts are promised to us here. 00:52:30.15\00:52:32.65 So salvation, we know we're saved, 00:52:32.68\00:52:34.62 and we know we're being saved, and we know we will be saved. 00:52:34.65\00:52:37.39 Oh, you remember that, honey? 00:52:37.42\00:52:38.75 He just always say exact words. All right. 00:52:38.79\00:52:40.56 Yes, say from the penalty of sin, 00:52:40.59\00:52:43.19 from the power of sin, from the presence of sin. 00:52:43.22\00:52:45.76 And we are saved, we are being saved, 00:52:45.79\00:52:47.50 and we will be saved. 00:52:47.53\00:52:48.86 Right. That's a powerful thing. 00:52:48.90\00:52:50.23 And the whole thing that includes that package 00:52:50.27\00:52:52.60 is restoration. 00:52:52.63\00:52:55.04 It has not the house. 00:52:55.07\00:52:56.40 And it's not once saved, always saved either. 00:52:56.44\00:52:58.01 No. 00:52:58.04\00:52:59.37 The house that has not yet been revealed, 00:52:59.41\00:53:01.41 but you shall be. 00:53:01.44\00:53:02.78 Yes. 00:53:02.81\00:53:04.15 Okay, but when He's done, we're going to be like Him. 00:53:04.18\00:53:06.15 Wow, wow. 00:53:06.18\00:53:07.52 He restores us to the place that we once occupied, 00:53:07.55\00:53:10.92 not because we deserve it but because of His grace. 00:53:10.95\00:53:13.12 Amen. Wow. 00:53:13.15\00:53:14.49 And one more. Okay. 00:53:14.52\00:53:15.86 Lamentations... 00:53:15.89\00:53:17.23 Pastor Dinzey, Lamentations 5:21. 00:53:17.26\00:53:19.63 "Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored. 00:53:19.66\00:53:24.10 Renew our days as of old." 00:53:24.13\00:53:26.60 Wow! 00:53:26.63\00:53:27.97 How many people watching this program 00:53:28.00\00:53:30.24 want to say, "Lord, take me back. 00:53:30.27\00:53:34.38 Take me back to the place I once received You. 00:53:34.41\00:53:37.85 Take me back."? 00:53:37.88\00:53:39.45 You know, you talked about that first love. 00:53:39.48\00:53:42.25 Hit that for a minute or so here. 00:53:42.28\00:53:43.75 That first love, what's it like? 00:53:43.79\00:53:45.52 It's amazing 00:53:45.55\00:53:46.96 because when you come to Jesus... 00:53:46.99\00:53:48.42 When I first came to Jesus, I had nothing to offer Him. 00:53:48.46\00:53:50.76 You know, I wasn't a Sunday keeper, 00:53:50.79\00:53:52.89 or Sabbath keeper, 00:53:52.93\00:53:54.26 or tithe payer, or Sabbath School lesson guy, 00:53:54.30\00:53:56.60 or a Bible scholar, or anything. 00:53:56.63\00:53:58.53 I have nothing to offer Him. 00:53:58.57\00:54:00.07 And so when I came to Jesus, 00:54:00.10\00:54:01.44 the only thing I could give him was my load of sin and guilt. 00:54:01.47\00:54:03.81 And I gave that to Him, 00:54:03.84\00:54:05.17 and He made it clear that He forgave me 00:54:05.21\00:54:07.84 and accepted me. 00:54:07.88\00:54:09.21 Whoo! 00:54:09.24\00:54:10.58 The greatest enemy of our love for Christ 00:54:10.61\00:54:13.42 are our works for Christ. 00:54:13.45\00:54:15.75 And when you start piling up those works 00:54:15.78\00:54:18.02 like the Pharisees did, 00:54:18.05\00:54:19.55 our relationship to Christ can change. 00:54:19.59\00:54:21.86 "Oh, I'm so glad 00:54:21.89\00:54:23.22 I'm not like that person over there. 00:54:23.26\00:54:24.59 You know, I pay tithe a lot. 00:54:24.63\00:54:25.96 I pay tax and I fast twice a week," 00:54:25.99\00:54:28.70 and then the publican goes up, he says... 00:54:28.73\00:54:30.07 I'm vegan. Yeah, yeah. 00:54:30.10\00:54:32.43 My soymilk drink... 00:54:32.47\00:54:33.80 My rice milk, I actually don't like soymilk. 00:54:33.84\00:54:35.70 And the publican says, 00:54:35.74\00:54:37.11 "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner." 00:54:37.14\00:54:39.27 And He goes down to His house 00:54:39.31\00:54:40.98 justify more than the other and that is our first love. 00:54:41.01\00:54:44.85 Our first love is based upon unmerited favor. 00:54:44.88\00:54:48.82 And that unmerited favor continues 00:54:48.85\00:54:50.62 through the whole course like with David. 00:54:50.65\00:54:51.99 It continues through the whole course 00:54:52.02\00:54:53.59 to restore, to glorify. 00:54:53.62\00:54:55.32 It does everything. 00:54:55.36\00:54:56.69 And then later the Lord restored David 00:54:56.73\00:54:58.29 so completely that later on 00:54:58.33\00:54:59.79 when He is born, the angel said, 00:54:59.83\00:55:02.33 "You will find Him in the city of David." 00:55:02.36\00:55:05.57 God identified, Jesus identifies with a man 00:55:05.60\00:55:08.44 that just didn't have the right 00:55:08.47\00:55:09.80 to be identified in the city of David. 00:55:09.84\00:55:11.17 That's beautiful. Powerful. 00:55:11.21\00:55:13.74 Two more things, 00:55:13.78\00:55:15.11 we're going to just fly into this. 00:55:15.14\00:55:16.48 Pastor Dinzey, Galatians 6:1 and point number eight. 00:55:16.51\00:55:18.51 The question is what do we have to be able to do... 00:55:18.55\00:55:20.88 What do we do to help aid in the process of restoration, 00:55:20.92\00:55:24.52 restorative grace? 00:55:24.55\00:55:26.02 "Brethren, if a man is overtaken 00:55:26.05\00:55:28.86 in any trespass, 00:55:28.89\00:55:30.26 you who are spiritual 00:55:30.29\00:55:31.66 restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, 00:55:31.69\00:55:35.23 considering yourself lest you also be tempted." 00:55:35.26\00:55:38.70 Wow. So a spirit of arrogance? 00:55:38.73\00:55:40.64 No. 00:55:40.67\00:55:42.00 Didn't even mention in the book, 00:55:42.04\00:55:43.37 don't even condescend. 00:55:43.41\00:55:44.74 No. 00:55:44.77\00:55:46.11 Don't even make that person feel like a second class 00:55:46.14\00:55:47.48 and you are the one that really is not as bad 00:55:47.51\00:55:48.91 as he or she is. 00:55:48.94\00:55:50.78 It's... I forgot the term. 00:55:50.81\00:55:52.85 Yeah, that's the same thing. 00:55:52.88\00:55:54.22 Yeah, don't condescend to them. 00:55:54.25\00:55:56.82 So we have to be spiritual, we have to be gentle. 00:55:56.85\00:56:01.62 And we have to say but for the grace of God. 00:56:01.66\00:56:03.63 Yeah, so go I. Unmerited favor. 00:56:03.66\00:56:06.90 You know, when I first became a Christian Adventist, 00:56:06.93\00:56:09.46 I thought that's not grace. 00:56:09.50\00:56:11.47 You know, that's cheap grace. 00:56:11.50\00:56:12.83 And I remember 00:56:12.87\00:56:14.20 and I'm just going to bring this up 00:56:14.24\00:56:15.57 reading that in Ellen White's writings, 00:56:15.60\00:56:16.97 and then I went through the Great Controversy 00:56:17.01\00:56:19.24 and I got to the end, 00:56:19.27\00:56:20.68 you know, the very end when Jesus comes, 00:56:20.71\00:56:23.04 there's in Great Controversy 541, 00:56:23.08\00:56:25.21 I want to bring this up 00:56:25.25\00:56:26.58 because sometimes people criticize Ellen White, 00:56:26.61\00:56:28.18 you know, very recklessly. 00:56:28.22\00:56:30.39 Jesus comes, and all of our faces, 00:56:30.42\00:56:32.79 the faces of the righteous gathered paleness 00:56:32.82\00:56:34.89 and everyone asked the question, 00:56:34.92\00:56:36.26 who's going to be able to stand? 00:56:36.29\00:56:37.73 And there's a moment of awful silence, all right? 00:56:37.76\00:56:40.23 And then on that page, page 541 I think it is. 00:56:40.26\00:56:43.37 She says... 00:56:43.40\00:56:44.73 641 she says, 00:56:44.77\00:56:46.43 "Then the word of the voice of Jesus is heard," 00:56:46.47\00:56:48.50 And you know what it says, 00:56:48.54\00:56:49.94 "My grace is sufficient for you." 00:56:49.97\00:56:52.31 Wow. Amen. 00:56:52.34\00:56:53.68 That's how it ends. That's how it ends. 00:56:53.71\00:56:55.28 We don't want this program to end. 00:56:55.31\00:56:57.18 The God's grace is sufficient. 00:56:57.21\00:56:58.55 And lastly, Mark 8:25. Okay. 00:56:58.58\00:57:00.68 When the Lord put His hands out and restored the man's eyes, 00:57:00.72\00:57:04.52 the Bible says, 00:57:04.55\00:57:05.89 "And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. 00:57:05.92\00:57:08.86 " The last thing the Lord wants to do for us 00:57:08.89\00:57:10.73 in the process of restorative grace 00:57:10.76\00:57:13.03 is help us to see everyone the way that Jesus sees. 00:57:13.06\00:57:16.06 Amen. 00:57:16.10\00:57:17.43 Honey, thank you for recommending this. 00:57:17.47\00:57:18.83 We're just getting started on this. 00:57:18.87\00:57:20.47 Wish we had more time. That's right. 00:57:20.50\00:57:22.60 And, friends, we pray that God will restore you 00:57:22.64\00:57:25.77 that as He restores you, 00:57:25.81\00:57:27.74 you will be in aid with Him to help restore others. 00:57:27.78\00:57:31.01 May God bless you and have a Sabbath... 00:57:31.05\00:57:32.88 Happy Sabbath. 00:57:32.91\00:57:34.25 Happy Sabbath until we see you again. 00:57:34.28\00:57:35.62
