Thank you very much. 00:03:46.86\00:03:48.29 And we have JD, he is here. 00:03:48.32\00:03:52.59 Tell us a little bit about what you do. 00:03:52.63\00:03:55.00 And how Pastor Turner 00:03:55.03\00:03:56.70 got involved in pastoral ministries? 00:03:56.73\00:03:58.57 Well, I've been here since 2005, 00:03:58.60\00:04:00.97 absolutely, 00:04:01.00\00:04:02.37 probably the best thing that ever happened to me. 00:04:02.40\00:04:05.17 My life has been transformed since being here. 00:04:05.21\00:04:07.41 And I thank Jesus every day for that. 00:04:07.44\00:04:10.81 Claude is one of those rare gifts that you get. 00:04:10.85\00:04:13.82 Claude is only 99 years old. Praise the Lord. 00:04:13.85\00:04:16.82 It's unbelievable 00:04:16.85\00:04:18.92 that he's got the energy of people our age, 00:04:18.95\00:04:22.46 you know, but he does make 00:04:22.49\00:04:23.96 a major difference in people's lives. 00:04:23.99\00:04:25.69 People all over the world call in 00:04:25.73\00:04:27.80 and he gets to talk and... 00:04:27.83\00:04:30.23 Whenever you're 99 years old, and with his background, 00:04:30.27\00:04:34.04 you have so many life experiences, 00:04:34.07\00:04:35.80 so much wisdom to share in this. 00:04:35.84\00:04:39.01 Not only are the people who call him blessed, 00:04:39.04\00:04:41.54 but we in pastoral are blessed. 00:04:41.58\00:04:43.24 Amen. Yes. 00:04:43.28\00:04:44.61 And we are certainly blessed by you being here 00:04:44.65\00:04:46.85 and tell us a little bit... 00:04:46.88\00:04:49.48 Can you tell, share one of the experiences 00:04:49.52\00:04:51.85 you've had in pastoral ministries 00:04:51.89\00:04:53.49 that has been a blessing to you? 00:04:53.52\00:04:55.89 Well, it's hard to... 00:04:55.92\00:04:57.33 It's hard to pick out the best one. 00:04:57.36\00:04:58.79 Okay. 00:04:58.83\00:05:00.16 But there was a lady called in 00:05:00.20\00:05:03.47 and said she was in dire straits financially, 00:05:03.50\00:05:08.14 and she didn't know what to do. 00:05:08.17\00:05:11.24 And I got to thinking, she's a nurse 00:05:11.27\00:05:15.64 and we have Mrs. Clark here that needed some help. 00:05:15.68\00:05:22.52 And I just said, 00:05:22.55\00:05:23.89 "Why don't just two of you get together." 00:05:23.92\00:05:26.19 She needs employment. 00:05:26.22\00:05:28.26 And we need someone 00:05:28.29\00:05:31.46 to take care of this elderly person. 00:05:31.49\00:05:33.86 And so it worked out. 00:05:33.90\00:05:36.36 So there's been many cases like that where in pastoral 00:05:36.40\00:05:41.00 we had the opportunity to help people. 00:05:41.04\00:05:44.27 And the main thing is I see 00:05:44.31\00:05:47.61 the work of pastoral is to give people hope. 00:05:47.64\00:05:50.55 Amen. Amen. 00:05:50.58\00:05:51.91 Amen. And that's our work. 00:05:51.95\00:05:54.62 Amen. Amen. Well, praise the Lord. 00:05:54.65\00:05:56.79 How tremendous memory he has 00:05:56.82\00:06:00.12 and we just are grateful to the Lord for His goodness. 00:06:00.16\00:06:03.12 And we are coming to you on what we call the Sabbath. 00:06:03.16\00:06:06.29 And just want to, 00:06:06.33\00:06:08.16 just say a little bit about that, 00:06:08.20\00:06:09.53 because some of our viewers are wondering 00:06:09.56\00:06:11.07 what in the world is the Sabbath, you know? 00:06:11.10\00:06:13.77 Is that state of mind or what is that? 00:06:13.80\00:06:17.27 Well, the Sabbath is what the Bible calls 00:06:17.31\00:06:19.71 the day of rest for God's people. 00:06:19.74\00:06:22.11 And we have scriptures that tell us 00:06:22.14\00:06:24.68 that God wants us to remember that. 00:06:24.71\00:06:26.31 Perhaps, I don't know 00:06:26.35\00:06:27.68 if one of you would like to share about the Sabbath. 00:06:27.72\00:06:30.12 We have the commandment in the Book of Exodus 20. 00:06:30.15\00:06:35.09 I'll start by reading that, 00:06:35.12\00:06:36.83 because this is what God wants us to do. 00:06:36.86\00:06:40.40 This is one of the Ten Commandments, 00:06:40.43\00:06:42.80 which for the most part, I would say that the majority 00:06:42.83\00:06:47.30 of the Christian world has forgotten 00:06:47.34\00:06:49.60 about this commandment or set it aside 00:06:49.64\00:06:52.51 or believe that it has been changed. 00:06:52.54\00:06:55.34 But God has not changed it. 00:06:55.38\00:06:57.51 And man has tried to change it, 00:06:57.55\00:06:59.55 but it remains God's day of rest, 00:06:59.58\00:07:02.32 it is the day of the Lord. 00:07:02.35\00:07:04.99 And so in Exodus Chapter 20, 00:07:05.02\00:07:07.19 I am going to start reading to you, 00:07:07.22\00:07:10.06 verse 8 unto 11. 00:07:10.09\00:07:12.79 And the Bible says the fourth commandment, okay? 00:07:12.83\00:07:16.00 This is, "Remember the Sabbath day 00:07:16.03\00:07:19.23 to keep it holy. 00:07:19.27\00:07:21.20 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 00:07:21.24\00:07:25.37 But the seventh-day 00:07:25.41\00:07:27.31 is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. 00:07:27.34\00:07:30.38 In it, you shall do no work. 00:07:30.41\00:07:32.68 You, nor your son, nor your daughter, 00:07:32.71\00:07:36.45 nor your male servant, 00:07:36.48\00:07:38.22 nor your female servant, nor your cattle, 00:07:38.25\00:07:40.72 nor your stranger who is within your gates. 00:07:40.76\00:07:44.13 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, 00:07:44.16\00:07:49.03 the sea, and all that is in them, 00:07:49.06\00:07:52.57 and rested the seventh-day. 00:07:52.60\00:07:54.60 Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day 00:07:54.64\00:07:58.21 and hallowed it." 00:07:58.24\00:08:00.44 So praise the Lord for the Sabbath day. 00:08:00.48\00:08:03.48 Now notice that it says that even your animals 00:08:03.51\00:08:07.12 are supposed to be given a break 00:08:07.15\00:08:09.12 on the seventh-day, 00:08:09.15\00:08:10.65 and the seventh-day we recognize and understand, 00:08:10.69\00:08:14.39 and it is true that is Saturday. 00:08:14.42\00:08:17.93 And according to the Bible, the days of the week 00:08:17.96\00:08:20.56 begin with the evening portion. 00:08:20.60\00:08:22.93 That's why when it comes to Friday sunset, 00:08:22.96\00:08:26.70 the Sabbath has begun 00:08:26.74\00:08:28.84 and continues until Saturday evening 00:08:28.87\00:08:32.47 when the sun sets, that's the Sabbath day. 00:08:32.51\00:08:36.01 Any comments from our gentlemen here? 00:08:36.04\00:08:38.31 No. You did pretty good. 00:08:38.35\00:08:40.65 Well, thank you for the encouragement. 00:08:40.68\00:08:43.15 Well, I also like Isaiah 58:13,14, 00:08:43.18\00:08:46.62 because we're talking here, 00:08:46.65\00:08:48.02 it mentions that it's the day that honors the Lord. 00:08:48.06\00:08:52.33 And if I can just read it, Isaiah 58:13, 14. 00:08:52.36\00:08:56.10 "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath 00:08:56.13\00:08:58.47 from doing your pleasure on my Holy Day 00:08:58.50\00:09:00.37 and call the Sabbath a delight." 00:09:00.40\00:09:01.87 He's saying, call the Sabbath a delight, 00:09:01.90\00:09:03.91 "The Holy Day of the Lord honorable shall Honor Him, 00:09:03.94\00:09:09.38 shall Honor God but not doing your own waste 00:09:09.41\00:09:11.51 or finding your own pleasure, or speaking your own words. 00:09:11.55\00:09:14.92 And then you shall delight yourself in the Lord." 00:09:14.95\00:09:18.12 Thank you, Jesus, 00:09:18.15\00:09:19.49 because I think that's the ambition 00:09:19.52\00:09:20.86 of all Christians. 00:09:20.89\00:09:22.22 "You shall delight yourself in the Lord 00:09:22.26\00:09:23.73 and I will cause you," 00:09:23.76\00:09:25.09 this is capital, this is God, 00:09:25.13\00:09:26.46 "I will cause you to ride on the high heels of the earth 00:09:26.49\00:09:29.40 and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, 00:09:29.43\00:09:31.93 the mouth of the Lord has spoken." 00:09:31.97\00:09:34.17 The mouth of the Lord has spoken. 00:09:34.20\00:09:35.94 Amen. Well, thank you so much. 00:09:35.97\00:09:38.81 Pastor Turner, you have 00:09:38.84\00:09:40.91 perhaps kept the Sabbath longer than anyone else has. 00:09:40.94\00:09:44.75 Could you maybe tell us 00:09:44.78\00:09:46.15 how it has been a blessing to you? 00:09:46.18\00:09:48.55 Well, my parents were Seventh-day Adventists 00:09:48.58\00:09:52.92 when I was born, which I thank the Lord 00:09:52.95\00:09:55.89 for this wonderful privilege. 00:09:55.92\00:09:58.36 I had the privilege of going 00:09:58.39\00:09:59.89 to church school most of my life, 00:09:59.93\00:10:03.87 my grade school and then I went to Campion Academy. 00:10:03.90\00:10:09.70 That was a wonderful experience. 00:10:09.74\00:10:12.24 But few years later, after graduating from college 00:10:12.27\00:10:15.94 and spending two years in the ministry, 00:10:15.98\00:10:18.51 they asked me to come back to that very school, 00:10:18.55\00:10:20.98 Campion Academy, and be the Bible instructor. 00:10:21.02\00:10:24.29 Oh, wonderful. 00:10:24.32\00:10:25.65 So that was a really wonderful experience for me. 00:10:25.69\00:10:28.86 Excellent, excellent. 00:10:28.89\00:10:30.23 Well, praise the Lord. 00:10:30.26\00:10:31.59 I was just... Let me bring out this. 00:10:31.63\00:10:32.96 This to me is a great story in Adventism. 00:10:32.99\00:10:35.46 I mean, most of us heard of HMS Richards. 00:10:35.50\00:10:38.17 Now, your father was a farmer, right? 00:10:38.20\00:10:41.24 Right. Okay. 00:10:41.27\00:10:42.60 And you were telling that story 00:10:42.64\00:10:43.97 I don't know a little while ago, 00:10:44.01\00:10:45.34 about something that he dedicated to the Lord. 00:10:45.37\00:10:48.51 I thought this was a great story, 00:10:48.54\00:10:49.98 'cause now we're going back 80 years, 90 years, 00:10:50.01\00:10:53.72 something like that, maybe it's unbelievable. 00:10:53.75\00:10:56.52 Well, my father and HMS Richards 00:10:56.55\00:10:59.75 grew up together. 00:10:59.79\00:11:01.62 Their families were good friends 00:11:01.66\00:11:03.53 and HMS Richards had a lot to do 00:11:03.56\00:11:06.96 with Campion Academy and Loma Linda, 00:11:07.00\00:11:10.63 that's well known there. 00:11:10.67\00:11:14.00 My father was, as you say, 00:11:14.04\00:11:16.10 was a dirt farmer out in eastern Colorado, 00:11:16.14\00:11:19.27 then later moved to the western part of Colorado. 00:11:19.31\00:11:23.28 But he raised cattle as well as dirt farming. 00:11:23.31\00:11:27.98 And every year he set aside a calf for Voice of Prophecy. 00:11:28.02\00:11:33.96 Amen. 00:11:33.99\00:11:35.32 Little later he started giving two calves 00:11:35.36\00:11:37.83 to the Voice of Prophecy. 00:11:37.86\00:11:39.69 In fact, market them and, of course, 00:11:39.73\00:11:42.56 the proceeds went to supporting the Voice of Prophecy. 00:11:42.60\00:11:47.04 And for those that don't know what is Voice of Prophecy? 00:11:47.07\00:11:50.47 Well, Voice of Prophecy is Elder HMS Richards 00:11:50.51\00:11:54.78 really started that years and years ago 00:11:54.81\00:11:57.58 and it's still going. 00:11:57.61\00:11:59.35 And it's doing a wonderful work. 00:11:59.38\00:12:01.92 So I suppose that some of the contributions back there 00:12:01.95\00:12:06.62 was like Three Angels Broadcast. 00:12:06.65\00:12:10.49 It started a great movement. Amen. 00:12:10.53\00:12:12.83 And Voice of Prophecy has helped thousands of people 00:12:12.86\00:12:16.70 find their way into the kingdom. 00:12:16.73\00:12:18.33 That's right. That's right. 00:12:18.37\00:12:19.83 And the Voice of Prophecy is the radio program, 00:12:19.87\00:12:23.27 the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:12:23.30\00:12:25.37 one of the radio programs 00:12:25.41\00:12:26.78 because now there are many more. 00:12:26.81\00:12:28.41 And we praise the Lord for the work 00:12:28.44\00:12:30.55 of the radio program, HMS Richards, 00:12:30.58\00:12:34.58 then his son took over and eventually 00:12:34.62\00:12:38.42 we had Lonnie Melashenko and others, 00:12:38.45\00:12:40.72 and today it's Shawn Boonstra. 00:12:40.76\00:12:43.06 Right. 00:12:43.09\00:12:44.43 Director and speaker of Voice of Prophecy. 00:12:44.46\00:12:47.16 And what a blessing it has been. 00:12:47.20\00:12:49.06 Amen. Well, I... 00:12:49.10\00:12:51.07 Today, we're gonna talk about... 00:12:51.10\00:12:52.73 continue talking about something that 00:12:52.77\00:12:56.34 we believe is an anchor, a truth so wonderful, 00:12:56.37\00:13:03.11 so sublime, if you want to say that way, 00:13:03.14\00:13:05.25 so great and marvelous that the whole world 00:13:05.28\00:13:09.32 should have this in their heart. 00:13:09.35\00:13:12.35 And I would like to read the text 00:13:12.39\00:13:15.32 from which we get the title for the program for today. 00:13:15.36\00:13:18.53 And this is found in the Book of Titus. 00:13:18.56\00:13:23.06 I'm going to start reading in Chapter 2 verse 13, 00:13:23.10\00:13:27.64 I will also read verse 14. 00:13:27.67\00:13:29.80 But in Titus Chapter 2, we have these marvelous words, 00:13:29.84\00:13:34.74 "Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing 00:13:34.78\00:13:41.35 of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 00:13:41.38\00:13:45.19 who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us 00:13:45.22\00:13:49.26 from every lawless deed and purify for himself, 00:13:49.29\00:13:54.36 his own special people, zealous for good works." 00:13:54.40\00:13:59.20 That's Titus 2:13, 14. 00:13:59.23\00:14:03.34 So this blessed hope, 00:14:03.37\00:14:05.57 the hope of the soon return of Jesus Christ 00:14:05.61\00:14:10.15 burns in our heart, as it were. 00:14:10.18\00:14:12.81 And maybe later on 00:14:12.85\00:14:14.18 we can read the words of that beautiful hymn. 00:14:14.22\00:14:16.89 We have this hope... Amen. 00:14:16.92\00:14:19.85 That has marvelous words. 00:14:19.89\00:14:22.39 But I would like to go to the Lord in prayer 00:14:22.42\00:14:24.23 before we continue. 00:14:24.26\00:14:25.59 Ask the Lord to continue blessing, 00:14:25.63\00:14:27.56 what we share 00:14:27.60\00:14:28.93 and everyone that is joining us all over the world. 00:14:28.96\00:14:32.20 And, Brother Jay, 00:14:32.23\00:14:34.77 would you please lead us in prayer? 00:14:34.80\00:14:36.34 Sure. 00:14:36.37\00:14:37.94 Our loving heavenly Father, we thank You 00:14:37.97\00:14:41.14 for this opportunity to praise You. 00:14:41.18\00:14:43.91 And we ask that our viewers and listeners praise You 00:14:43.95\00:14:47.48 along with us. 00:14:47.52\00:14:49.52 We thank You for everything that You do for us. 00:14:49.55\00:14:52.39 You know, there's so many things 00:14:52.42\00:14:53.86 that You do for us that we don't even know about, 00:14:53.89\00:14:56.49 we don't experience, we don't understand. 00:14:56.52\00:15:00.23 We will find out one day and will be amazed 00:15:00.26\00:15:03.53 that so many of the things that happened in our lives 00:15:03.57\00:15:06.80 that were for the good came from You. 00:15:06.84\00:15:09.60 Right now, Lord, we just go to You in true faith 00:15:09.64\00:15:13.51 and say we thank You for Your guidance, 00:15:13.54\00:15:16.54 Your prayers, Your help, always for all of us. 00:15:16.58\00:15:20.02 And I speak not just for those of us at this table, 00:15:20.05\00:15:22.62 but everyone in our audience as well. 00:15:22.65\00:15:25.55 We ask for You to be with us and guide us. 00:15:25.59\00:15:29.12 We ask for Your presence in our lives. 00:15:29.16\00:15:31.59 We ask for Your presence during this program, 00:15:31.63\00:15:35.16 so that we can reach as many eyes and ears as possible. 00:15:35.20\00:15:40.00 Lord, be with us. 00:15:40.04\00:15:41.37 We ask in Jesus' name. 00:15:41.40\00:15:43.41 Amen. Amen. 00:15:43.44\00:15:44.77 Amen. Amen. 00:15:44.81\00:15:46.17 So I would say that one of the things 00:15:46.21\00:15:50.38 that I would like to see or know that has happened 00:15:50.41\00:15:54.05 and we welcome your comments, 00:15:54.08\00:15:55.68 those of you at home or wherever you are, 00:15:55.72\00:15:58.65 we say, those of you at home, 00:15:58.69\00:16:00.16 but there may be people in prison or in hospitals, 00:16:00.19\00:16:02.96 listening to us. 00:16:02.99\00:16:04.33 So our hope is that you that this hope of the soon return 00:16:04.36\00:16:08.90 of our Lord and Savior, 00:16:08.93\00:16:10.27 Jesus Christ will reawaken, 00:16:10.30\00:16:13.44 become a reality in your life as a result of this program. 00:16:13.47\00:16:16.77 And if you don't have this hope that by the time we are done, 00:16:16.81\00:16:21.71 you will have this hope 00:16:21.74\00:16:23.48 and you will have this encouragement, 00:16:23.51\00:16:25.35 and this confidence 00:16:25.38\00:16:27.58 that the Lord loves you, and He will soon return 00:16:27.62\00:16:31.15 to end all suffering. 00:16:31.19\00:16:32.75 But I think we have a great suggestion 00:16:32.79\00:16:37.93 from Brother Jay, what... 00:16:37.96\00:16:39.29 We should define the word hope, 00:16:39.33\00:16:41.96 because it seems that as time has continued 00:16:42.00\00:16:45.93 this word hope has, kind of, 00:16:45.97\00:16:48.10 changed a little bit in meaning. 00:16:48.14\00:16:50.77 You say something to people. 00:16:50.81\00:16:52.61 So are you going to pay me tomorrow the $200 you owe me? 00:16:52.64\00:16:57.55 Well, I hope so. 00:16:57.58\00:17:01.28 And it has an air of doubt. 00:17:01.32\00:17:03.55 Sometimes as people expressed it, 00:17:03.59\00:17:05.25 so what does the word hope mean? 00:17:05.29\00:17:08.79 Who would like to start on that one? 00:17:08.82\00:17:11.06 Well, Jay, you read us earlier, 00:17:11.09\00:17:14.73 which we were jumped into this in everything 00:17:14.76\00:17:17.57 and then you brought what maybe 00:17:17.60\00:17:19.77 we should have the definition of hope. 00:17:19.80\00:17:21.94 And so you gave us a definition. 00:17:21.97\00:17:24.57 And like Johnny was saying, there is that... 00:17:24.61\00:17:29.54 I remember, what do you bring your baby? 00:17:29.58\00:17:33.95 You know, you... 00:17:33.98\00:17:35.32 the proud parents come out, 00:17:35.35\00:17:36.69 you know, and they love all those, baby says, 00:17:36.72\00:17:38.82 "Oh, I hope that this young... 00:17:38.85\00:17:41.46 this young baby will grow up to be a mighty warrior 00:17:41.49\00:17:43.59 for the kingdom of God." 00:17:43.63\00:17:45.96 And so then, you know, as the child matures, 00:17:45.99\00:17:48.76 "Well, I hope that I'll be able to attend college." 00:17:48.80\00:17:52.20 But then it seems like as you mature in Christ, 00:17:52.23\00:17:54.97 you begin to get another grasp of what blessed hope means. 00:17:55.00\00:17:59.24 Today, I'm looking forward to the blessed hope. 00:17:59.27\00:18:02.74 I'm not just looking for the things of today 00:18:02.78\00:18:05.65 that the darkened material things 00:18:05.68\00:18:07.72 that I might get. 00:18:07.75\00:18:09.65 But I'm looking at the spiritual application. 00:18:09.68\00:18:12.49 And then I was listening to someone not too long ago 00:18:12.52\00:18:16.46 and they brought out that hope in the Greek myth, 00:18:16.49\00:18:18.66 eager expectation. 00:18:18.69\00:18:20.03 Yes. 00:18:20.06\00:18:21.40 So now all of a sudden, there's a difference here 00:18:21.43\00:18:24.07 in receiving doubtfully, 00:18:24.10\00:18:27.50 where do you begin to look eagerly. 00:18:27.54\00:18:29.50 And if you get into God's Word here you begin 00:18:29.54\00:18:32.51 and you look at it with hope meaning 00:18:32.54\00:18:34.18 eager expectation. 00:18:34.21\00:18:36.38 Wow! And that's the blessed hope. 00:18:36.41\00:18:39.08 You know that you know that you know 00:18:39.11\00:18:41.68 that there is a home waiting for us. 00:18:41.72\00:18:45.42 And so you might pick it up from here, Jay, 00:18:45.45\00:18:49.16 in the definition what Webster says, 00:18:49.19\00:18:51.56 but, you know, as we progress, if I put the little seed 00:18:51.59\00:18:56.23 that I would like to plant is look at it 00:18:56.26\00:18:59.07 from an eager expectation standpoint 00:18:59.10\00:19:01.74 rather than a standpoint of doubt. 00:19:01.77\00:19:03.84 Yeah, and that's exactly where this goes. 00:19:03.87\00:19:06.94 One of the things that I learned a long time ago 00:19:06.98\00:19:10.91 was that often we have a misunderstanding of words. 00:19:10.95\00:19:15.55 They're used, I don't know differently than 00:19:15.58\00:19:18.39 what they meant originally. 00:19:18.42\00:19:21.39 And I wanted to learn that, I began going to the Bible... 00:19:21.42\00:19:26.73 to the dictionary. 00:19:26.76\00:19:29.13 Well, I go to the Bible too 00:19:29.16\00:19:30.80 'cause I look at lot of those words. 00:19:30.83\00:19:32.17 Amen. 00:19:32.20\00:19:33.54 But I started going to the dictionary 00:19:33.57\00:19:35.00 and reading about the words and it makes a difference. 00:19:35.04\00:19:38.97 Here is the definition of what most people think 00:19:39.01\00:19:43.45 hope means to want something to happen, 00:19:43.48\00:19:49.05 or to be true. 00:19:49.08\00:19:51.02 Guess what we want? 00:19:51.05\00:19:52.59 I hope I'll save a million dollars 00:19:52.62\00:19:55.49 by the time I retire. 00:19:55.52\00:19:57.43 I hope I'll have the new car that I want. 00:19:57.46\00:20:00.00 I hope I'll have salvation. 00:20:00.03\00:20:02.30 You know, these types of things we hope, 00:20:02.33\00:20:05.23 we want it to happen. 00:20:05.27\00:20:07.30 But it's focused on us. 00:20:07.34\00:20:09.94 It's focused on the things that we want. 00:20:09.97\00:20:15.04 And what is real good definition to me 00:20:15.08\00:20:18.91 is to cherish a desire with anticipation. 00:20:18.95\00:20:24.95 Okay. I anticipate. 00:20:24.99\00:20:27.22 Amen. That it's going to be true. 00:20:27.26\00:20:29.39 And looking at one of the older definitions of hope, 00:20:29.42\00:20:34.30 it has a synonym in trust. 00:20:34.33\00:20:36.80 Yes. 00:20:36.83\00:20:38.63 And so I trust the Lord. 00:20:38.67\00:20:42.27 The Lord is my trust and my hope. 00:20:42.30\00:20:46.61 And so when we look at it from that standpoint, 00:20:46.64\00:20:51.21 it's to cherish a desire with anticipation. 00:20:51.25\00:20:56.55 I anticipate spending eternity with you guys. 00:20:56.58\00:20:59.55 Amen. 00:20:59.59\00:21:00.92 I anticipate spending eternity with my family and friends, 00:21:00.96\00:21:05.46 with Jesus, with God, the Holy Spirit, with people 00:21:05.49\00:21:09.66 that we will meet for the first time, 00:21:09.70\00:21:11.57 they said, I saw you guys on TV. 00:21:11.60\00:21:15.07 That's a good thing to look forward to, 00:21:15.10\00:21:17.27 a cherished hope. 00:21:17.31\00:21:18.67 And the cherished hope is Jesus. 00:21:18.71\00:21:21.11 Amen. Amen. 00:21:21.14\00:21:22.48 He provides all of that. Amen. 00:21:22.51\00:21:24.45 That's wonderful. 00:21:24.48\00:21:26.11 I'm looking here also at a definition, 00:21:26.15\00:21:27.85 which has these words that you mentioned, 00:21:27.88\00:21:30.75 anticipation, eager expectation 00:21:30.79\00:21:35.52 and it also adds a word, 00:21:35.56\00:21:38.36 anticipation with pleasure. 00:21:38.39\00:21:41.13 Now because when we think of the blessed hope, 00:21:41.16\00:21:43.87 we have a pleasure in believing and understanding 00:21:43.90\00:21:48.54 and in the reality of the soon return 00:21:48.57\00:21:51.77 of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. 00:21:51.81\00:21:54.01 And so we'd like to talk about how people can get this hope. 00:21:54.04\00:21:59.01 You know, we live in this wicked, 00:21:59.05\00:22:01.58 evil world, perhaps, I even thought about, 00:22:01.62\00:22:04.22 even now for people that are wondering about hope. 00:22:04.25\00:22:07.62 And those that have ever fallen in love, 00:22:07.66\00:22:11.29 you know, people say fallen in love, 00:22:11.33\00:22:12.83 but they also had fallen in love. 00:22:12.86\00:22:16.50 When they develop a relationship 00:22:16.53\00:22:20.07 and they come to the point, 00:22:20.10\00:22:21.90 they have hope 00:22:21.94\00:22:23.67 that the love they have for the other person 00:22:23.71\00:22:26.31 I remember, you know, 00:22:26.34\00:22:27.68 hoping Idalia would agree or say yes to, 00:22:27.71\00:22:32.71 you know, be my girlfriend, marrying me, you know, 00:22:32.75\00:22:35.02 you have that hope and that joy, 00:22:35.05\00:22:36.79 expecting the yes and that's the hope, 00:22:36.82\00:22:39.42 you know, you have the desire for a positive answer, 00:22:39.45\00:22:43.96 you know, and you prepare yourself 00:22:43.99\00:22:47.60 and you know, present, I love you, would you marry me? 00:22:47.63\00:22:52.40 And then you're waiting 00:22:52.43\00:22:53.77 with eager anticipation for the answer. 00:22:53.80\00:22:56.77 Yes. 00:22:56.81\00:22:58.14 I think perhaps that may help some people 00:22:58.17\00:22:59.51 that have gone down that line. 00:22:59.54\00:23:01.48 And so, Matthew, anything you would like to share 00:23:01.51\00:23:06.31 concerning the blessed hope? 00:23:06.35\00:23:07.68 I have been listening to this 00:23:07.72\00:23:09.55 and my mind has been taking a little journey 00:23:09.58\00:23:11.92 as I've been listening. 00:23:11.95\00:23:13.49 As we began here, we sort of started out 00:23:13.52\00:23:16.22 with your little talk about the Sabbath 00:23:16.26\00:23:19.23 which takes us back to the beginning. 00:23:19.26\00:23:20.60 Yes. 00:23:20.63\00:23:21.96 The very beginning and we were talking 00:23:22.00\00:23:23.40 about why that was important. 00:23:23.43\00:23:25.40 And that was important for us to know 00:23:25.43\00:23:28.10 the Sabbath day tells us 00:23:28.14\00:23:30.31 what God is the God of the Bible, 00:23:30.34\00:23:32.47 the Creator God, 00:23:32.51\00:23:34.08 the one who made all those things in the beginning, 00:23:34.11\00:23:36.38 who made everything perfect, and had a perfect family. 00:23:36.41\00:23:39.48 But way back then 00:23:39.51\00:23:42.32 something went wrong in the big plan. 00:23:42.35\00:23:44.62 Everything went wrong. 00:23:44.65\00:23:45.99 Sin came in, you know, people fell, we fell into sin. 00:23:46.02\00:23:49.86 But there was a promise made 00:23:49.89\00:23:52.26 that there will be one who would make it right. 00:23:52.29\00:23:54.63 Amen. Yes. 00:23:54.66\00:23:56.00 And so as we sort of go back to the beginning, 00:23:56.03\00:23:58.03 I mean, now we're looking forward, 00:23:58.07\00:23:59.53 they had, they were hoping, you know, 00:23:59.57\00:24:02.20 we've lost our even, our garden home, 00:24:02.24\00:24:04.61 we've lost our Eden home, 00:24:04.64\00:24:06.31 will there ever be hope for us? 00:24:06.34\00:24:08.44 And they said, "Yes, one will come." 00:24:08.48\00:24:10.61 So every mother said had that hope. 00:24:10.65\00:24:13.52 Maybe this child will be the one 00:24:13.55\00:24:15.35 who will be the Redeemer of the world, 00:24:15.38\00:24:17.39 all those generations waiting for that Redeemer, 00:24:17.42\00:24:20.62 the one to come. 00:24:20.66\00:24:21.99 And then Jesus came and did His work of redemption, 00:24:22.02\00:24:26.39 salvation for us. 00:24:26.43\00:24:28.30 And when He went back, He gave us a promise, 00:24:28.33\00:24:31.80 I will come again. Yes. 00:24:31.83\00:24:33.74 And so we have that from the beginning 00:24:33.77\00:24:36.07 to where we are. 00:24:36.10\00:24:37.44 And we're not just looking for hope 00:24:37.47\00:24:38.81 that I'll get my bills paid. 00:24:38.84\00:24:40.84 We're looking for the greater hope 00:24:40.88\00:24:42.34 that the world could be made a better place. 00:24:42.38\00:24:45.58 That we don't have this sickness and suffering, 00:24:45.61\00:24:47.52 and illness and murder, and strife and envy, 00:24:47.55\00:24:50.65 all these things will be put away. 00:24:50.69\00:24:52.19 So as I look at this, 00:24:52.22\00:24:54.16 I've just sort of seeing this thread 00:24:54.19\00:24:55.69 from the beginning to where we are now. 00:24:55.72\00:24:57.39 Why do I need hope? 00:24:57.43\00:24:59.13 We need hope because 00:24:59.16\00:25:00.50 we live in a world without hope. 00:25:00.53\00:25:02.23 And people are desperate, 00:25:02.26\00:25:03.87 they're looking for something to hope in. 00:25:03.90\00:25:05.43 They're looking for a glorious future. 00:25:05.47\00:25:08.10 That's right. 00:25:08.14\00:25:09.47 So is that hope available to us all? 00:25:09.50\00:25:11.97 I would think so. Yes. 00:25:12.01\00:25:13.74 Let me read here what Paul has to say 00:25:13.78\00:25:15.74 to the Colossian church. 00:25:15.78\00:25:17.55 This is Colossians 1:5-6, "Because of the hope 00:25:17.58\00:25:22.58 which is laid up for you in heaven." 00:25:22.62\00:25:24.92 Amen, that's each of us, 00:25:24.95\00:25:26.59 "Of which you heard before 00:25:26.62\00:25:27.96 and the word of the truth of the gospel." 00:25:27.99\00:25:29.99 In other words, he's talking to Colossians. 00:25:30.03\00:25:31.59 Hey, you've heard this before in the word of the gospel, 00:25:31.63\00:25:34.00 which is, "Come to you, as it is also in the world 00:25:34.03\00:25:37.47 and is bringing forth fruit." 00:25:37.50\00:25:39.77 Amen. Yes. 00:25:39.80\00:25:41.14 And it's also, "As it is among you 00:25:41.17\00:25:43.94 since the day that you heard 00:25:43.97\00:25:45.31 and knew the grace of God and truth." 00:25:45.34\00:25:47.24 So hope is available to us all if we will just reach out, 00:25:47.28\00:25:51.28 if we will give him permission 00:25:51.31\00:25:53.62 to assist us in our time of need. 00:25:53.65\00:25:56.18 And as we said, 00:25:56.22\00:25:57.55 people are looking for hope yesterday. 00:25:57.59\00:25:59.29 I mean, everywhere. Yes. 00:25:59.32\00:26:00.76 Yesterday I had an opportunity to visit with a young man. 00:26:00.79\00:26:05.29 And I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. 00:26:05.33\00:26:11.93 I want hope. 00:26:11.97\00:26:14.30 Wow, this just kind of fell into what we're talking here. 00:26:14.34\00:26:17.57 And so couple of us was this in with him 00:26:17.61\00:26:19.54 and everything and says you know, 00:26:19.57\00:26:21.24 it is available. 00:26:21.28\00:26:23.14 And we just kind of started taking some steps, 00:26:23.18\00:26:25.81 you know, and that's what he was, 00:26:25.85\00:26:28.18 most people are looking for hope of some type, 00:26:28.22\00:26:30.32 nobody's too old or too rich or too poor, 00:26:30.35\00:26:34.72 not to want hope. 00:26:34.76\00:26:37.93 What do you think, Claude? 00:26:37.96\00:26:39.29 Well, I have a little problem with the word hope 00:26:39.33\00:26:42.56 because to me, hope is a wishful desire. 00:26:42.60\00:26:48.04 But you know, 00:26:48.07\00:26:50.61 heaven is more than a wishful desire. 00:26:50.64\00:26:53.38 I like what is recorded here in John 14:1-3 00:26:53.41\00:26:59.25 where it says, 00:26:59.28\00:27:00.78 "In my Father's house are many mansions, 00:27:00.82\00:27:03.35 if it were not so, I would have told you. 00:27:03.39\00:27:05.95 I go to prepare a place for you and if..." 00:27:05.99\00:27:10.39 And we now He went. 00:27:10.43\00:27:11.76 Amen. 00:27:11.79\00:27:13.13 "If I go," He did go, 00:27:13.16\00:27:15.16 He's going to prepare a place for you. 00:27:15.20\00:27:17.93 "And I will come again." It's not a wishful desire. 00:27:17.97\00:27:21.90 It's a promise based upon God and Jesus Christ Himself. 00:27:21.94\00:27:26.68 "I will come again and receive you unto myself 00:27:26.71\00:27:30.35 that where I am there you may be also." 00:27:30.38\00:27:33.11 He is going to prepare a place. 00:27:33.15\00:27:38.09 JD, you live out there, you have a house, 00:27:38.12\00:27:41.86 you have a garage, 00:27:41.89\00:27:43.22 you have a garden too, don't you? 00:27:43.26\00:27:44.59 I do. 00:27:44.63\00:27:45.96 You know, I heard him telling but that tomato he picked. 00:27:45.99\00:27:49.26 JD said, "Claude, would you stop 00:27:49.30\00:27:52.23 by my place sometime?" 00:27:52.27\00:27:55.07 No, that's a permanent situation. 00:27:55.10\00:27:59.24 There's a building. There's all the material thing. 00:27:59.27\00:28:02.74 You know, Jesus said, I go to prepare a place. 00:28:02.78\00:28:06.18 Amen. 00:28:06.21\00:28:07.55 And I'm just wondering, 00:28:07.58\00:28:11.79 I hope is more of a wishful desire 00:28:11.82\00:28:14.79 based upon the promise of God. 00:28:14.82\00:28:17.09 I hope that I can live in my place 00:28:17.13\00:28:20.53 that He's gonna prepare. 00:28:20.56\00:28:21.90 Amen. 00:28:21.93\00:28:23.26 But wouldn't be terrible 00:28:23.30\00:28:24.63 if there was a vacancy sign on my place. 00:28:24.67\00:28:30.41 You know, that promises, 00:28:30.44\00:28:33.21 there's security and promise and assurance 00:28:33.24\00:28:38.01 that He's going to prepare a place. 00:28:38.05\00:28:40.05 The question is, I want to live so that I can feel that place. 00:28:40.08\00:28:44.92 Amen. 00:28:44.95\00:28:46.29 Well, the... Go ahead. 00:28:46.32\00:28:48.72 You know, we have the Lord bringing to our attention, 00:28:48.76\00:28:54.30 the offer and reality that all can, 00:28:54.33\00:29:00.54 all have the opportunity. 00:29:00.57\00:29:03.94 All thanks to the great sacrifice 00:29:03.97\00:29:07.08 that Jesus Christ made on the cross for us. 00:29:07.11\00:29:09.18 Yes. 00:29:09.21\00:29:10.55 And for this reason, I like to quote John 3:16, 00:29:10.58\00:29:14.75 because it says, "For God so loved the world, 00:29:14.78\00:29:18.79 that He gave His only begotten Son, 00:29:18.82\00:29:21.42 that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, 00:29:21.46\00:29:26.63 but have ever lasting life." 00:29:26.66\00:29:29.93 In that place. Yes, in that place. 00:29:29.96\00:29:33.23 So the blessed hope is something 00:29:33.27\00:29:36.04 that everyone can have, 00:29:36.07\00:29:38.21 because Jesus Christ has made provision. 00:29:38.24\00:29:40.78 He has died for our sins, 00:29:40.81\00:29:42.14 you know, we are in this situation, 00:29:42.18\00:29:44.51 as Matthew, very well presented, 00:29:44.55\00:29:48.88 that sin came into the world, Adam and Eve sinned. 00:29:48.92\00:29:53.05 And that's why we have suffering in this world, 00:29:53.09\00:29:55.86 not just because of Adam and Eve sinned, 00:29:55.89\00:29:57.33 but because people keep on sinning. 00:29:57.36\00:29:59.93 And people keep making things worse, 00:29:59.96\00:30:01.90 because the Bible also says what you sow, 00:30:01.93\00:30:04.43 you shall reap. 00:30:04.47\00:30:05.80 And so calamity and trouble comes upon people 00:30:05.83\00:30:09.07 because they have sowed the seeds 00:30:09.10\00:30:12.07 that will bring calamity and trouble upon themselves. 00:30:12.11\00:30:14.68 So I like to read also from Ephesians Chapter 2, 00:30:14.71\00:30:17.78 which talks about the opportunity 00:30:17.81\00:30:20.58 and continuing on this thought of salvation 00:30:20.62\00:30:24.82 is available to all. 00:30:24.85\00:30:26.86 But if people have to make a decision to believe, 00:30:26.89\00:30:31.09 and to do something with that belief. 00:30:31.13\00:30:34.43 Yes. 00:30:34.46\00:30:35.80 Because that's another word that people sometimes 00:30:35.83\00:30:38.10 put a little bit of doubt into. 00:30:38.13\00:30:39.90 I believe, I can with a little bit of doubt. 00:30:39.93\00:30:45.27 But here in Ephesians 2:8, 00:30:45.31\00:30:51.65 I like to read in verse 7 too, because this is just wonderful, 00:30:51.68\00:30:56.12 "That in the ages to come, 00:30:56.15\00:30:57.72 He might show the exceeding riches of His grace, 00:30:57.75\00:31:03.02 in His kindness toward us, in Christ Jesus, 00:31:03.06\00:31:06.70 for by grace, 00:31:06.73\00:31:08.40 you have been saved through faith, 00:31:08.43\00:31:10.43 and that not of yourselves, 00:31:10.47\00:31:12.43 it is the gift of God, not of works, 00:31:12.47\00:31:16.04 lest anyone should boast. 00:31:16.07\00:31:18.04 For we are His workmanship, 00:31:18.07\00:31:19.74 created in Christ Jesus for good works, 00:31:19.77\00:31:22.28 which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." 00:31:22.31\00:31:28.15 And so the opportunity is available for all, 00:31:28.18\00:31:32.25 you know, if salvation was only available to the rich, 00:31:32.29\00:31:36.36 well, a lot of us poor people will not have the opportunity. 00:31:36.39\00:31:39.29 But the Bible says, whoever believes in Him, 00:31:39.33\00:31:41.96 and it says, "By grace, you are saved," 00:31:42.00\00:31:44.13 and perhaps somebody can help me with a nice, 00:31:44.17\00:31:48.14 clear definition of grace. 00:31:48.17\00:31:49.57 What is grace? 00:31:49.60\00:31:51.91 To me, grace is divine assistance. 00:31:51.94\00:31:54.18 You know, it's unmerited favor. 00:31:54.21\00:31:56.58 I mean, that's what most people say, 00:31:56.61\00:31:58.31 but it's a gift that He gives to each one of us. 00:31:58.35\00:32:02.05 In Romans 5:1-2, and I'll follow this up, 00:32:02.08\00:32:05.02 having been justified, in other words, 00:32:05.05\00:32:06.42 "Having been saved by faith, 00:32:06.45\00:32:07.79 we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." 00:32:07.82\00:32:11.39 So now we're talking about claiming those promises 00:32:11.43\00:32:13.53 that we were talking about, claiming the promises 00:32:13.56\00:32:16.56 through whom we have access by faith into this grace, 00:32:16.60\00:32:21.40 His grace in which we stand and rejoice 00:32:21.44\00:32:23.61 in the hope of the Lord God of glory of God, 00:32:23.64\00:32:27.78 talking about eager expectation into the eager expectation 00:32:27.81\00:32:30.55 that He does have promises for us. 00:32:30.58\00:32:32.98 As you've just said, 00:32:33.01\00:32:34.52 He has gone to prepare us a place, 00:32:34.55\00:32:37.25 as you said, you know, that He gave up His only Son 00:32:37.29\00:32:39.99 that we could have life. 00:32:40.02\00:32:42.02 And so I think, at least in my own life, 00:32:42.06\00:32:45.63 my own testimony is, the more that I read His Word, 00:32:45.66\00:32:49.23 the Bible, 00:32:49.26\00:32:50.60 the more I see the promises they have, 00:32:50.63\00:32:52.73 the longer I live, 00:32:52.77\00:32:54.10 I see that those promises come true. 00:32:54.14\00:32:57.01 And so that enhances my thread of belief. 00:32:57.04\00:33:02.18 I know that I know that I know that He is coming again. 00:33:02.21\00:33:06.35 And I'm looking forward to, I'm not gonna get into that, 00:33:06.38\00:33:11.39 because you told a wonderful story earlier about, 00:33:11.42\00:33:14.86 you know, 00:33:14.89\00:33:16.83 your great niece or grand, great, whatever, you know, 00:33:16.86\00:33:20.20 but I am not gonna get into that right now. 00:33:20.23\00:33:22.53 About some day whenever 00:33:22.56\00:33:24.47 we do experience the blessed hope 00:33:24.50\00:33:25.93 and you get to visit with them. 00:33:25.97\00:33:27.50 But the main thing is please get into His Word. 00:33:27.54\00:33:31.21 Please start learning what the promises are. 00:33:31.24\00:33:33.91 And then please claim those promises. 00:33:33.94\00:33:36.41 Amen. Amen. Amen. 00:33:36.44\00:33:38.31 Now get back on the grace. Yes. 00:33:38.35\00:33:43.02 Matthew Andrew, you have some thoughts you'd like to share? 00:33:43.05\00:33:45.25 Oh, well, I was, 00:33:45.29\00:33:47.46 you just took it back to grace. 00:33:47.49\00:33:48.96 I was actually thinking there's also another word 00:33:48.99\00:33:51.13 that kind of goes with this to me, 00:33:51.16\00:33:52.73 and that is confidence. 00:33:52.76\00:33:54.36 You were kind of leading in that direction. 00:33:54.40\00:33:56.33 Yes. Confidence, okay. 00:33:56.36\00:33:58.70 This Jesus promised that He would come back. 00:33:58.73\00:34:02.27 How do I know He will do that? 00:34:02.30\00:34:04.21 How do I know that He has that kind of power? 00:34:04.24\00:34:06.61 How do I know that 00:34:06.64\00:34:07.98 He has the ability to raise the dead 00:34:08.01\00:34:10.21 and take me to that place that He has the power, 00:34:10.25\00:34:13.65 the ability to make that place 00:34:13.68\00:34:15.38 that He's forming for me that I can go to someday? 00:34:15.42\00:34:18.65 How do I understand that? How do I know that? 00:34:18.69\00:34:20.86 I have confidence that He can do that, 00:34:20.89\00:34:23.96 because of what I have seen in His life 00:34:23.99\00:34:26.76 through reading His Word through the gospels, 00:34:26.80\00:34:29.30 and what I see that this is the God 00:34:29.33\00:34:32.53 who commands the winds and the waves 00:34:32.57\00:34:35.17 and they obey Him. 00:34:35.20\00:34:37.01 He raises the dead to life. 00:34:37.04\00:34:39.81 He feeds the 5000, then the 4000. 00:34:39.84\00:34:42.64 He has done these things, 00:34:42.68\00:34:45.45 to prove I am who I am who I say I am. 00:34:45.48\00:34:50.05 I am that Messiah. 00:34:50.09\00:34:51.95 I am the creator God who made all things. 00:34:51.99\00:34:54.56 So I have that ability. 00:34:54.59\00:34:56.02 Now I have confidence, 00:34:56.06\00:34:57.86 having seen the things that He's done, 00:34:57.89\00:35:01.00 raising the dead, healing lepers, 00:35:01.03\00:35:03.40 nobody just speaks and does that today, 00:35:03.43\00:35:06.80 that He has this power, 00:35:06.84\00:35:08.70 and therefore I have confidence in Him 00:35:08.74\00:35:10.44 that whenever He says He will do, 00:35:10.47\00:35:12.54 He will do and has the power and ability 00:35:12.57\00:35:15.64 and the desire to go ahead. 00:35:15.68\00:35:17.61 Amen. 00:35:17.65\00:35:18.98 How about, Jay, when you think of God's grace, 00:35:19.01\00:35:21.78 and some of the definition of grace, 00:35:21.82\00:35:23.92 and what does grace mean to you? 00:35:23.95\00:35:26.96 Well, it gets down to me 00:35:26.99\00:35:29.19 to just exactly what you guys have been talking about so far. 00:35:29.22\00:35:34.23 And that is that we don't deserve 00:35:34.26\00:35:37.17 the good treatment that we get. 00:35:37.20\00:35:38.77 We just don't deserve it under no circumstances. 00:35:38.80\00:35:42.50 And when we talk about the blessed hope, 00:35:42.54\00:35:44.64 our blessed hope is our trust in Jesus. 00:35:44.67\00:35:49.68 Amen. 00:35:49.71\00:35:51.05 And for me, there have been things 00:35:51.08\00:35:52.41 that have happened in my life and I'm sure with you, too, 00:35:52.45\00:35:55.25 with the people in our audience, 00:35:55.28\00:35:56.62 things happen that we don't like, 00:35:56.65\00:35:59.55 we don't want to have happen, we lose jobs, we get sick. 00:35:59.59\00:36:03.26 We have car accidents, we have, you know, 00:36:03.29\00:36:06.23 things that we would say are bad things. 00:36:06.26\00:36:09.53 And so then we start to say, 00:36:09.56\00:36:11.70 Well, I hope Jesus is who He says He is 00:36:11.73\00:36:15.24 and gets back to this, 00:36:15.27\00:36:17.01 I wonder if it's true or not definition of hope. 00:36:17.04\00:36:21.04 And we need to turn it around to trust, 00:36:21.08\00:36:24.51 the old definition of hope. 00:36:24.55\00:36:26.65 And that's trust, trust in Jesus. 00:36:26.68\00:36:30.02 And that's all that it is. 00:36:30.05\00:36:32.42 If there's something that I want, 00:36:32.45\00:36:35.59 and Jesus doesn't want it for me, 00:36:35.62\00:36:40.00 then I don't want it. 00:36:40.03\00:36:42.43 If there's something I don't want, 00:36:42.46\00:36:45.17 and this seems to happen too often. 00:36:45.20\00:36:48.37 Something I don't want, that Jesus wants for me, 00:36:48.40\00:36:53.44 then I want it. 00:36:53.48\00:36:54.94 Does that make sense? 00:36:54.98\00:36:56.31 It makes sense. Okay. 00:36:56.34\00:36:57.68 And so that's the direction I try to go. 00:36:57.71\00:37:00.82 And so when something 00:37:00.85\00:37:03.69 that I am not happy with happens. 00:37:03.72\00:37:07.16 What I've learned to do over time, 00:37:07.19\00:37:10.36 is to say, okay, Lord, 00:37:10.39\00:37:12.33 there's something in this here for me. 00:37:12.36\00:37:14.80 Why is this happening? 00:37:14.83\00:37:16.53 I don't know but You do. 00:37:16.56\00:37:19.53 And there's been so many times in my life, 00:37:19.57\00:37:22.47 that I haven't wanted something to happen 00:37:22.50\00:37:25.94 that over time, 00:37:25.97\00:37:28.51 I see that I had a blessing. Yes. 00:37:28.54\00:37:30.65 There was a good reason that it happened. 00:37:30.68\00:37:32.91 I had some bad things happen in my life, 00:37:32.95\00:37:35.08 seemed like all at once. 00:37:35.12\00:37:37.69 And everything just fell apart. 00:37:37.72\00:37:41.92 It was before I met Christ, but it brought me to Christ. 00:37:41.96\00:37:45.39 Amen. 00:37:45.43\00:37:46.76 And so it started the things in action 00:37:46.80\00:37:51.90 that God knew was going to happen 00:37:51.93\00:37:55.70 that brought me to Him. 00:37:55.74\00:37:57.27 Now, if you asked me 00:37:57.31\00:37:59.41 when I go back to 1989 00:37:59.44\00:38:03.91 and have things to be different. 00:38:03.95\00:38:06.95 Now, if you were to ask me that in 1989, 00:38:06.98\00:38:09.22 I'd have said, "No, I don't want that. 00:38:09.25\00:38:11.15 I want things to be different. 00:38:11.19\00:38:14.12 I don't want this bad thing to happen. 00:38:14.16\00:38:16.29 Am I glad that it happened today? 00:38:19.56\00:38:22.06 Absolutely. 00:38:22.10\00:38:23.90 Wow. Yes. 00:38:23.93\00:38:25.43 I'm glad that it happened today. 00:38:25.47\00:38:28.04 Today, I'm glad that it happened. 00:38:28.07\00:38:30.11 But back then 00:38:30.14\00:38:31.81 it was one of the worst things that happened in my life. 00:38:31.84\00:38:36.18 And so it's that trust, it's the hope in Jesus Christ. 00:38:36.21\00:38:41.15 So the hope/trust. Yes. 00:38:41.18\00:38:45.02 And so when we can do that and trust in Jesus, 00:38:45.05\00:38:50.86 it's always going to be right. 00:38:50.89\00:38:54.56 Amen. Amen. 00:38:54.60\00:38:55.93 You mentioned grace. 00:38:55.96\00:38:58.63 I've been reading this book. 00:38:58.67\00:39:01.57 What's so amazing about grace, that's a wonderful book 00:39:01.60\00:39:06.57 but this is not only grace, 00:39:06.61\00:39:09.98 this is a deed to the kingdom of heaven 00:39:10.01\00:39:12.95 that Jesus is coming. 00:39:12.98\00:39:14.32 Excellent. And... 00:39:14.35\00:39:16.65 One definition of grace is unmerited favor. 00:39:19.05\00:39:22.92 I have experiences of unmerited favor. 00:39:22.96\00:39:25.29 May I tell you a little experience? 00:39:25.33\00:39:26.83 Please. 00:39:26.86\00:39:28.50 Back in the 1800s, going back a long way. 00:39:28.53\00:39:33.07 None of us can say that. 00:39:33.10\00:39:34.44 I wasn't there, no. You weren't there, okay. 00:39:34.47\00:39:36.64 I wasn't there 00:39:36.67\00:39:38.04 but my grandfather and grandmother 00:39:38.07\00:39:43.68 buried five children within about three weeks 00:39:43.71\00:39:48.08 from diphtheria. 00:39:48.12\00:39:50.99 Why? 00:39:51.02\00:39:52.35 I don't know. 00:39:52.39\00:39:53.72 Why was their lives cut short? 00:39:53.76\00:39:56.59 And here, I'm still in this world today. 00:39:56.62\00:40:00.56 Why? 00:40:00.60\00:40:01.93 It's unmerited favor. 00:40:01.96\00:40:03.30 I don't deserve it. 00:40:03.33\00:40:05.00 But it's the gift of God. Amen. 00:40:05.03\00:40:07.24 Gift of God. 00:40:07.27\00:40:09.74 Well, thank you for sharing that. 00:40:09.77\00:40:11.54 You know, there are many things 00:40:11.57\00:40:13.07 that happen in our lives or in the lives of people 00:40:13.11\00:40:16.18 that we know including friends and family. 00:40:16.21\00:40:19.61 And we may ask ourselves now, why is that happening? 00:40:19.65\00:40:22.95 Sometimes when things happen to people, 00:40:22.98\00:40:25.69 we say, "Well, I wonder if that's because, 00:40:25.72\00:40:28.42 you know, he kicked a dog 00:40:28.46\00:40:29.79 or because he did some bad thing." 00:40:29.82\00:40:31.83 But we don't know what's all behind 00:40:31.86\00:40:35.36 the why things happen. 00:40:35.40\00:40:37.00 We are living in a world 00:40:37.03\00:40:38.67 that is involved in a great controversy 00:40:38.70\00:40:41.24 between good and evil. 00:40:41.27\00:40:42.67 And Satan is playing his little games. 00:40:42.70\00:40:44.94 And unfortunately, we are not always 00:40:44.97\00:40:49.44 able to see clearly that he does things, 00:40:49.48\00:40:54.22 some bad things to people. 00:40:54.25\00:40:56.48 And then people blame God for it. 00:40:56.52\00:40:58.55 And I'm sure he's delighted himself in the idea 00:40:58.59\00:41:01.42 that people are believing 00:41:01.46\00:41:03.26 God did these bad things happen to people 00:41:03.29\00:41:06.66 when in fact, you can go to the Book of Job 00:41:06.70\00:41:08.76 and see some evidence 00:41:08.80\00:41:10.33 that the devil gets involved in people suffering, 00:41:10.37\00:41:12.93 including taking the lives of people, 00:41:12.97\00:41:15.20 and causing storms 00:41:15.24\00:41:17.11 and destroying the property of Job. 00:41:17.14\00:41:20.78 He is still doing this today. 00:41:20.81\00:41:22.54 And many times people blame God, 00:41:22.58\00:41:25.21 well, look what God allowed to happen, 00:41:25.25\00:41:27.62 or God did this. 00:41:27.65\00:41:29.32 But going back to what we call the great controversy 00:41:29.35\00:41:34.56 between good and evil, you know, 00:41:34.59\00:41:36.73 we see evidence in the Bible that God wants to do us good. 00:41:36.76\00:41:41.43 He says, "Ask and you will receive." 00:41:41.46\00:41:43.26 Now, why would God tell you things like 00:41:43.30\00:41:45.70 ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, 00:41:45.73\00:41:49.44 and then there's that text, perhaps somebody can find it, 00:41:49.47\00:41:52.24 cant' think of where it is right now. 00:41:52.27\00:41:54.61 It says, "For I know the thoughts 00:41:54.64\00:41:57.21 that I have told you." 00:41:57.25\00:41:58.58 Jeremiah 29. 00:41:58.61\00:41:59.95 Jeremiah 29:13. Yes. 00:41:59.98\00:42:01.98 Thoughts of peace, to give you a hope, 00:42:02.02\00:42:05.62 to give you an expected end, 00:42:05.65\00:42:07.69 and so God has thoughts of peace. 00:42:07.72\00:42:10.96 Now, when we understand and believe 00:42:10.99\00:42:13.66 that God has thoughts of peace, 00:42:13.70\00:42:15.56 and wants to do good things to us. 00:42:15.60\00:42:17.70 And then when bad things happen to us, 00:42:17.73\00:42:20.00 there must be a good reason 00:42:20.04\00:42:22.10 for these bad things happening to us. 00:42:22.14\00:42:24.47 Or there's something we can learn from these things. 00:42:24.51\00:42:27.84 I would like to read to you, 00:42:27.88\00:42:29.21 because we've been also talking about the reality 00:42:29.24\00:42:32.61 that we can all have the blessed hope 00:42:32.65\00:42:34.35 that we can all have salvation. 00:42:34.38\00:42:36.75 And you know, 00:42:36.79\00:42:39.49 you mentioned a million dollars not too long ago, 00:42:39.52\00:42:42.32 maybe in the minds of some people still. 00:42:42.36\00:42:45.16 So if I had a million dollars, which I don't, 00:42:45.19\00:42:49.90 if I had a million dollars, and I say to 100 people, 00:42:49.93\00:42:54.70 I have a million dollars, 00:42:54.74\00:42:57.07 and I am giving it away right now. 00:42:57.11\00:43:00.21 And I put my hand out like that, 00:43:00.24\00:43:01.98 how many people do you think will come rushing 00:43:02.01\00:43:03.45 to get the million dollars? 00:43:03.48\00:43:07.48 They would believe you. They will believe me. 00:43:07.52\00:43:09.48 They will trust you. 00:43:09.52\00:43:10.85 Now, here's a text 00:43:10.89\00:43:12.32 that I would like to read to you 00:43:12.35\00:43:13.69 from 1 Timothy 6:12. 00:43:13.72\00:43:16.69 Because we've been talking about that whoever believes 00:43:16.73\00:43:21.00 can have eternal life. 00:43:21.03\00:43:22.70 It says in 1 Timothy 6:12, 00:43:22.73\00:43:25.83 "Fight the good fight of faith, 00:43:25.87\00:43:29.70 lay hold on eternal life to which you were also called, 00:43:29.74\00:43:34.64 and have confess the good confession 00:43:34.68\00:43:36.91 in the presence of many witnesses." 00:43:36.95\00:43:39.51 Now, this scripture speaks of something 00:43:39.55\00:43:44.69 as it's out there 00:43:44.72\00:43:47.26 because I had before me a glass of water. 00:43:47.29\00:43:51.33 In order for me to partake of that glass of water, 00:43:51.36\00:43:53.93 I have to lay hold of the glass of water, 00:43:53.96\00:43:58.00 so I can enjoy the water 00:43:58.03\00:44:00.27 and if the water's before I'm thirsty, 00:44:00.30\00:44:02.80 I would like to drink some water. 00:44:02.84\00:44:04.91 And I keep saying I'm thirsty, 00:44:04.94\00:44:06.27 I would like to drink some water 00:44:06.31\00:44:07.64 and the water is right there. 00:44:07.68\00:44:09.01 But I don't really hold of the water and drink it, 00:44:09.04\00:44:12.05 then I cannot enjoy the water. 00:44:12.08\00:44:13.98 So here God is saying, lay hold on eternal life. 00:44:14.02\00:44:18.62 It's right there. 00:44:18.65\00:44:20.36 God is offering eternal life to us. 00:44:20.39\00:44:22.46 But we must accept it by faith, and believe that we have it. 00:44:22.49\00:44:27.36 Not only that. 00:44:27.40\00:44:28.73 Believe that we have it. Yes. 00:44:28.76\00:44:30.10 Not only that, but like you said, reach out. 00:44:30.13\00:44:32.57 Yes. That's our part. 00:44:32.60\00:44:34.04 That's our part. Yes. Our part is to accept. 00:44:34.07\00:44:37.71 Well, I don't want to get into arguments 00:44:37.74\00:44:39.87 or discussions about works, 00:44:39.91\00:44:42.38 what's works and what's not works. 00:44:42.41\00:44:44.68 But to me, it makes sense that the Lord offers us 00:44:44.71\00:44:49.25 eternal life. 00:44:49.28\00:44:50.62 He offers us salvation. 00:44:50.65\00:44:54.19 And our part is what? 00:44:54.22\00:44:57.89 Accept that. 00:44:57.93\00:44:59.26 To reach out and accept it. 00:44:59.29\00:45:01.46 Yes. Yes. 00:45:01.50\00:45:02.83 And when we do that, we have it. 00:45:02.86\00:45:05.33 God does not ever force anything on us. 00:45:05.37\00:45:10.04 That's a tactic from Satan. 00:45:10.07\00:45:11.77 Satan will try to force stuff on us. 00:45:11.81\00:45:13.94 But from God, He offers it, please take it, here it is, 00:45:13.98\00:45:17.75 it's yours forever for eternity. 00:45:17.78\00:45:21.92 Just reach out and take it. 00:45:21.95\00:45:24.39 Amen. Amen. 00:45:24.42\00:45:25.75 And like the text said, lay hold of. 00:45:25.79\00:45:29.52 And it's a perfect example for me 00:45:29.56\00:45:32.39 of our part in salvation. 00:45:32.43\00:45:34.70 Amen. Amen. 00:45:34.73\00:45:36.06 You know Jay, you mentioned works. 00:45:36.10\00:45:38.23 That's a good thing. 00:45:38.27\00:45:40.67 You know, there's a lot of works for a Christian. 00:45:40.70\00:45:44.31 We Christians probably work harder than anybody else. 00:45:44.34\00:45:48.34 And we try to give out tracks and Bible studies and sermon. 00:45:48.38\00:45:53.72 Christians are full of good works. 00:45:53.75\00:45:56.92 But the good works are not means to attain. 00:45:56.95\00:46:00.96 Right. 00:46:00.99\00:46:02.32 Good works are gratitude for the gift. 00:46:02.36\00:46:04.66 Amen. Amen. 00:46:04.69\00:46:06.03 Thank you, that's very good. 00:46:06.06\00:46:07.40 Yes. Amen. 00:46:07.43\00:46:08.76 So we need to have faith that works by love. 00:46:08.80\00:46:11.33 Amen.
