Sabbath observes it. 00:10:50.35\00:10:51.98 Now what we're not going to do is 00:10:52.01\00:10:53.52 tell you the dos and don'ts, 00:10:53.55\00:10:55.05 because some of you watching are in the mountains, 00:10:55.08\00:10:57.85 some of you watching are way 00:10:57.89\00:10:59.89 in the recesses of the rural areas, 00:10:59.92\00:11:02.59 nobody around but you maybe your house 00:11:02.62\00:11:05.96 or your trailer or your camper 00:11:05.99\00:11:08.16 if you're camping somewhere. 00:11:08.20\00:11:09.83 But somebody may be in a high rise tenement 00:11:09.86\00:11:12.47 in New York, in Brooklyn, 00:11:12.50\00:11:13.84 and in some part in California. 00:11:13.87\00:11:15.80 You may be watching from your beachfront property. 00:11:15.84\00:11:19.71 Wherever you might be 00:11:19.74\00:11:21.08 and we know that different context 00:11:21.11\00:11:24.65 allows people to appreciate 00:11:24.68\00:11:26.08 and experience different things. 00:11:26.11\00:11:27.62 So we're not going to give you the dos and don'ts, 00:11:27.65\00:11:29.02 don't do this don't do that, 00:11:29.05\00:11:30.39 but we're going to share some principles 00:11:30.42\00:11:31.75 from God's word. 00:11:31.79\00:11:33.12 And experience. 00:11:33.15\00:11:34.49 And experiences on how we grow into the Sabbath, we have, 00:11:34.52\00:11:37.13 just very briefly, we have Joe and Nancy, 00:11:37.16\00:11:40.20 who were not originally Sabbath observers. 00:11:40.23\00:11:42.63 Right. 00:11:42.66\00:11:44.00 You were raised kind of, 00:11:44.03\00:11:45.37 give us a little bit by your background. 00:11:45.40\00:11:46.74 Well, I was raised Catholic, and I was an altar boy, 00:11:46.77\00:11:49.47 I went through the process of doing everything 00:11:49.50\00:11:51.74 I could to the point of thinking 00:11:51.77\00:11:54.34 that might be something 00:11:54.38\00:11:56.44 God would like for me to be a priest. 00:11:56.48\00:11:58.91 And then at the age of 19, I read the Bible, 00:11:58.95\00:12:04.05 and I found out that God has his way 00:12:04.09\00:12:06.49 and man has their way. 00:12:06.52\00:12:08.76 And so I had to start fresh 00:12:08.79\00:12:10.76 and this is where I'll just say that 00:12:10.79\00:12:15.83 concerning the Sabbath as I studied into, 00:12:15.86\00:12:19.40 what the Bible says, what our church does, 00:12:19.43\00:12:23.91 I found the Sabbath commandment, 00:12:23.94\00:12:25.77 and it is a commandment. 00:12:25.81\00:12:27.51 Right. Not a suggestion. 00:12:27.54\00:12:29.21 This is serious, we never to... 00:12:29.24\00:12:32.01 Sin is the transgression of the law 00:12:35.02\00:12:37.05 and the Sabbath commandment is a law 00:12:37.09\00:12:39.49 on the wages of sin as death, this could be serious. 00:12:39.52\00:12:41.99 Right. Okay. 00:12:42.02\00:12:43.36 So that being said, 00:12:43.39\00:12:44.73 I read the commandment and... 00:12:44.76\00:12:48.20 Well, we'll get into that later. 00:12:48.23\00:12:49.56 Okay. 00:12:49.60\00:12:50.93 I just, I'm going to let it set for now, 00:12:50.97\00:12:52.30 but so anyway, 00:12:52.33\00:12:53.74 it's Catholic study for probably 00:12:53.77\00:12:57.54 until I was about 40. 00:12:57.57\00:12:58.91 Wow! 00:12:58.94\00:13:00.28 Before I finally said, "I'll prove you wrong." 00:13:00.31\00:13:03.18 I picked up the book and found out somebody's right. 00:13:03.21\00:13:08.78 And it wasn't you. 00:13:08.82\00:13:10.15 Yeah, that wasn't me. 00:13:10.19\00:13:11.52 Wow. But good to have you. 00:13:11.55\00:13:12.89 And, Nancy, kind of was, 00:13:12.92\00:13:14.26 were you a part of that journey? 00:13:14.29\00:13:15.82 Only the last part of it, I was raised also Catholic. 00:13:15.86\00:13:19.16 I became a Catholic school teacher. 00:13:19.19\00:13:21.36 And I firmly believed that 00:13:21.40\00:13:23.80 what they were teaching me was true. 00:13:23.83\00:13:26.53 And then I also read the Bible, 00:13:26.57\00:13:28.67 and I always stumbled on the commandments. 00:13:28.70\00:13:31.54 I had read through, and I would say, 00:13:31.57\00:13:33.34 "Huh, Sabbath the Seventh-day. 00:13:33.38\00:13:35.78 Well, that must, why, well." 00:13:35.81\00:13:38.01 I would just, you know, dismiss I think, 00:13:38.05\00:13:39.81 "Well, I guess we don't do that anymore." 00:13:39.85\00:13:42.68 And but I always did stumble on that one. 00:13:42.72\00:13:45.12 And so when... 00:13:45.15\00:13:46.49 And also the death as well, it just didn't, you know, 00:13:46.52\00:13:51.56 what happened to you when you died, 00:13:51.59\00:13:53.13 I just didn't like the teaching of the Catholic Church. 00:13:53.16\00:13:56.13 And anyway, long story short, when I met Joe, 00:13:56.16\00:13:59.30 I'd already been, 00:13:59.33\00:14:02.67 like I said stumbled or in questing the Sabbath, 00:14:02.70\00:14:06.07 questing some of the other teachings 00:14:06.11\00:14:07.51 in the Bible that just didn't seem to go along 00:14:07.54\00:14:09.48 with what I had been taught, 00:14:09.51\00:14:12.01 and then we took a revelation seminar. 00:14:12.05\00:14:15.42 Wow! 00:14:15.45\00:14:16.79 And while that, I mean, it's just things made sense. 00:14:16.82\00:14:19.25 Wow! 00:14:19.29\00:14:20.62 Praise the Lord that you're here. 00:14:20.66\00:14:21.99 Now, were studying to be a nun at one time? 00:14:22.02\00:14:23.63 Well, I had prayed and asked the Lord 00:14:23.66\00:14:25.49 if that's what he wanted me to do. 00:14:25.53\00:14:27.66 And I was a Catholic school teacher, 00:14:27.70\00:14:29.23 and I was teaching on a mission school 00:14:29.26\00:14:31.33 on an Indian reservation, and I often... 00:14:31.37\00:14:34.10 I'd spent a few nights with the nuns thinking, 00:14:34.14\00:14:35.94 "Well, maybe I would join them." 00:14:35.97\00:14:37.31 Wow! 00:14:37.34\00:14:38.67 But in my heart, it just didn't seem like 00:14:38.71\00:14:41.58 that's what God wanted, and so I said, "Well, Lord, 00:14:41.61\00:14:45.01 if you want me to get married, bring me somebody." 00:14:45.05\00:14:47.28 He did. Yeah. 00:14:47.32\00:14:48.65 So you could have been a father O'Brien. 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.02 Yeah. 00:14:50.05\00:14:51.39 But here you are elder O'Brien. Yeah. 00:14:51.42\00:14:52.99 Well, you know, being Irish O'Brien, 00:14:53.02\00:14:54.86 it was either going to be a policeman 00:14:54.89\00:14:56.66 or a fireman or a, 00:14:56.69\00:14:58.36 you know... 00:14:58.39\00:14:59.73 A priest. 00:14:59.76\00:15:01.10 A priest, so I ended up being a fireman. 00:15:01.13\00:15:02.46 That's true, that's true, that's a very good one. 00:15:02.50\00:15:04.17 Except for now, now it's changing. 00:15:04.20\00:15:05.83 I just want to mention that Nancy when she, 00:15:05.87\00:15:07.97 when she was teaching in this Catholic school, 00:15:08.00\00:15:11.24 there were other Protestant teachers there. 00:15:11.27\00:15:13.51 And when she began to teach 00:15:13.54\00:15:16.08 what the Bible says about the Sabbath, 00:15:16.11\00:15:18.38 they fired her. 00:15:18.41\00:15:19.75 Oh! 00:15:19.78\00:15:21.12 But they kept the others. 00:15:21.15\00:15:22.48 What? Wow! 00:15:22.52\00:15:23.85 It's only the one that told 00:15:23.89\00:15:25.22 gave the God's word accurately that got... 00:15:25.25\00:15:26.59 You know, I would say, "Well, children, 00:15:26.62\00:15:28.52 this is what the church teaches. 00:15:28.56\00:15:30.39 But this is what the Bible says." 00:15:30.43\00:15:31.76 Really? 00:15:31.79\00:15:33.13 And so I'd let them, you know, get both sides of it. 00:15:33.16\00:15:35.43 Wow! 00:15:35.46\00:15:36.80 I wasn't popular. 00:15:36.83\00:15:38.17 And I also... 00:15:38.20\00:15:39.53 He had to put you out to bring you in. 00:15:39.57\00:15:40.94 Yes. 00:15:40.97\00:15:42.30 I also lost my job but then went through the process, 00:15:42.34\00:15:46.54 and they had to give it back to me 00:15:46.57\00:15:48.01 'cause of the Constitution. 00:15:48.04\00:15:49.38 That's right. Exactly. 00:15:49.41\00:15:50.75 But Gary had a kind of a different experience. 00:15:50.78\00:15:53.11 You were raised in a different environment 00:15:53.15\00:15:54.48 and Sabbath had a different context to you. 00:15:54.52\00:15:56.25 Right, kind of a totally 00:15:56.28\00:15:58.72 opposite side of the coin there. 00:15:58.75\00:16:00.46 I was raised by a young couple who were new in the faith, 00:16:00.49\00:16:05.53 and so they were very zealous for doing what was right 00:16:05.56\00:16:09.10 and the commandments 00:16:09.13\00:16:10.57 and the Sabbath and stuff and so. 00:16:10.60\00:16:12.53 And I love my parents very much, 00:16:12.57\00:16:13.90 so I would not want to talk bad about them. 00:16:13.94\00:16:15.77 But they did the best to their knowledge, 00:16:15.80\00:16:19.44 and they were very strict to my or my sister and I, 00:16:19.47\00:16:22.11 and so we were not allowed to do a lot of things 00:16:22.14\00:16:25.35 that the other kids were allowed to do on Sabbath. 00:16:25.38\00:16:28.52 And so, we'd actually stopped being a joy for me. 00:16:28.55\00:16:32.32 It was more of, you know, watching the clock, 00:16:32.35\00:16:34.19 when is it over. 00:16:34.22\00:16:35.56 It's, "I can't do this, I can't do that." 00:16:35.59\00:16:38.23 And so, for many years, 00:16:38.26\00:16:40.83 Sabbath to me was a real drudgery, 00:16:40.86\00:16:42.53 it was not a pleasure. 00:16:42.56\00:16:44.57 But since then I'm on a journey, 00:16:44.60\00:16:46.74 the Lord helps me on journey on 00:16:46.77\00:16:48.10 what does it mean to keep the Sabbath. 00:16:48.14\00:16:50.01 And my daughter's with me 00:16:50.04\00:16:53.01 and she can probably say some things but, 00:16:53.04\00:16:54.61 you know, 00:16:54.64\00:16:57.68 we're not, you know, 00:16:57.71\00:16:59.05 we're like I said it is a journey. 00:16:59.08\00:17:00.92 We didn't start off with our kids the right way 00:17:00.95\00:17:03.22 but I'm hoping that the Lord is now working 00:17:03.25\00:17:05.65 so that they can see the importance of the Sabbath. 00:17:05.69\00:17:07.99 That's what we're striving for. 00:17:08.02\00:17:09.36 Wow! 00:17:09.39\00:17:10.73 Anything you want to add to that, Elizabeth? 00:17:10.76\00:17:12.09 Well, I mean, 00:17:12.13\00:17:14.46 when we started this journey at first 00:17:14.50\00:17:16.63 I was kind of like, "Oh, no," 00:17:16.67\00:17:20.97 because I didn't find it a pleasure myself. 00:17:21.00\00:17:23.81 It was something that I had to do 00:17:23.84\00:17:27.04 and now that we're, 00:17:27.08\00:17:30.18 I'm starting to learn more about it, 00:17:30.21\00:17:32.28 and I just really I'm starting to enjoy it, 00:17:32.31\00:17:36.18 enjoy fellowshipping. 00:17:36.22\00:17:37.55 That's right. 00:17:37.59\00:17:38.92 Enjoy hearing from God's word, 00:17:38.95\00:17:41.69 and it's really been a blessing. 00:17:41.72\00:17:43.12 That's good. Wow! 00:17:43.16\00:17:44.49 And it makes all the difference. 00:17:44.53\00:17:45.86 And we all have different journeys, 00:17:45.89\00:17:47.23 I was, you know, 00:17:47.26\00:17:48.60 Angie was raised in a fully Adventist Home all of her life. 00:17:48.63\00:17:51.53 And youngest of eight children, 00:17:51.57\00:17:54.50 what was Sabbath like in your home? 00:17:54.54\00:17:56.10 Sabbath was wonderful. 00:17:56.14\00:17:58.44 We sang songs just like 00:17:58.47\00:18:00.14 we're doing tonight, sang songs, 00:18:00.18\00:18:02.91 we read the Bible, our Sabbath school lesson. 00:18:02.94\00:18:06.48 And my mom 'cause my father died in England, 00:18:06.51\00:18:09.18 so she, he left her with eight of us. 00:18:09.22\00:18:11.82 So it was, it was just a wonderful time, 00:18:11.85\00:18:14.76 we looked forward. 00:18:14.79\00:18:16.12 We played music what Jim Reeves or something, 00:18:16.16\00:18:19.56 we always had nice music, nice Christian music. 00:18:19.59\00:18:23.50 Our dinner was done, our closure's ready, 00:18:23.53\00:18:26.17 and we played our music. 00:18:26.20\00:18:27.80 It just set the atmosphere for the Sabbath. 00:18:27.84\00:18:30.17 So when it's time, my mom said, 00:18:30.21\00:18:32.14 it was time for worship, my mom, 00:18:32.17\00:18:34.04 "So, okay, everyone, come on, time for worship." 00:18:34.08\00:18:37.25 And sometimes, she would even say it, 00:18:37.28\00:18:38.61 we would always be there in the living room, 00:18:38.65\00:18:41.32 and we'd just bow our heads and pray 00:18:41.35\00:18:43.99 and ask the Lord for guidance and, 00:18:44.02\00:18:46.52 you know, we were kids 00:18:46.55\00:18:48.46 and it didn't mean much to us then 00:18:48.49\00:18:50.19 but it mean a lot now that I look back. 00:18:50.23\00:18:52.96 That's right, I remember it was in your home 00:18:52.99\00:18:56.10 that I was invited as a teenager 00:18:56.13\00:18:57.90 when we before we actually started dating officially, 00:18:57.93\00:19:00.64 you know, that was the only reason 00:19:00.67\00:19:02.00 I come over for a Family Worship. 00:19:02.04\00:19:03.61 And Angie would invite me over 00:19:03.64\00:19:04.97 and it was in that living room where 00:19:05.01\00:19:06.57 her family had Family Worship on Friday evenings, 00:19:06.61\00:19:09.14 heard her sing a song "I Am Willing, Lord, " 00:19:09.18\00:19:11.81 all these songs, they play those songs. 00:19:11.85\00:19:13.48 And it was a wonderful atmosphere, 00:19:13.52\00:19:14.85 very family oriented. 00:19:14.88\00:19:16.28 It was not rigid at all. 00:19:16.32\00:19:17.65 When we would get off track 00:19:17.69\00:19:19.02 'cause you can't have eight children, 00:19:19.05\00:19:20.76 seven children there at one time 00:19:20.79\00:19:22.16 or five of them there one time. 00:19:22.19\00:19:23.93 And not something go funny 00:19:23.96\00:19:25.63 or something just kind of we'll say, 00:19:25.66\00:19:27.96 you off and you laugh, and a mother say, 00:19:28.00\00:19:30.27 "Let's get back on track," 00:19:30.30\00:19:32.03 never rigid, never harsh. 00:19:32.07\00:19:33.94 So the Sabbath actually was reborn in my heart, 00:19:33.97\00:19:37.41 in your home. 00:19:37.44\00:19:39.47 But what I want 00:19:39.51\00:19:40.84 what I think is really important to do 00:19:40.88\00:19:43.11 is I want to go to Genesis. 00:19:43.14\00:19:45.08 Now we have an outline that we often use, 00:19:45.11\00:19:47.52 and we're not going to necessarily go in order, 00:19:47.55\00:19:48.95 we can kind of look and pick and choose, 00:19:48.98\00:19:50.62 but what I like to start with is 00:19:50.65\00:19:52.59 where the Sabbath was made 00:19:52.62\00:19:54.12 because one of the big misconceptions that... 00:19:54.16\00:19:57.13 And I think that each of us could appreciate is 00:19:57.16\00:19:59.16 from a different perspective, 00:19:59.19\00:20:00.53 one of the misconceptions that pervades, and... 00:20:00.56\00:20:04.00 Oftentimes, evades the minds of many Christians is that 00:20:04.03\00:20:07.27 the Sabbath is just for the Jews. 00:20:07.30\00:20:08.80 Oh, yeah. 00:20:08.84\00:20:10.17 That has been just such a roadblock 00:20:10.21\00:20:11.77 when you talk to other Christians, 00:20:11.81\00:20:13.14 they say, "Well, that's just for the Jews," 00:20:13.17\00:20:14.68 Well, it was noted that the cross 00:20:14.71\00:20:16.04 was no longer relevant. 00:20:16.08\00:20:17.41 So what I want to do, we all... 00:20:17.45\00:20:18.91 How many days do we have in a week? 00:20:18.95\00:20:20.28 Somebody tell me. Seven. 00:20:20.32\00:20:21.82 So we all have seven days in a week, 00:20:21.85\00:20:23.39 and when you look at the Genesis record, 00:20:23.42\00:20:26.25 you'll find that the Lord used every day to create something 00:20:26.29\00:20:30.63 but He had a seventh day 00:20:30.66\00:20:32.99 and you can't find anything physical 00:20:33.03\00:20:34.93 in creation on that day. 00:20:34.96\00:20:36.50 You can't find a tree. 00:20:36.53\00:20:38.00 You can't find an animal. 00:20:38.03\00:20:39.83 You can't find anything physical 00:20:39.87\00:20:41.34 He created on that day. 00:20:41.37\00:20:42.90 So the question will be why give us a seven-day week. 00:20:42.94\00:20:45.74 So let's look at Genesis 2:1 to 2:3. 00:20:45.77\00:20:49.11 If you have your Bibles, follow along with us. 00:20:49.14\00:20:52.31 And if any of you, I haven't... 00:20:52.35\00:20:55.22 Like I should go out and remember that, 00:20:55.25\00:20:57.09 but I will make promises that maybe only I can fulfill 00:20:57.12\00:21:01.39 'cause sometimes people contact and say, 00:21:01.42\00:21:02.99 "Could I get an outline of that program? 00:21:03.02\00:21:04.36 It was really great." 00:21:04.39\00:21:05.73 I have outlines not everyone does. 00:21:05.76\00:21:07.20 So try to be very careful who you might ask, 00:21:07.23\00:21:10.23 but Genesis 2:1 to 2:3, let me just start, 00:21:10.27\00:21:13.17 Gary, would you read that for us? 00:21:13.20\00:21:14.74 2:1 to 2:3? Yeah. 00:21:14.77\00:21:16.40 "Thus the heavens, and the earth were finished, 00:21:16.44\00:21:18.51 and all the hosts of them. 00:21:18.54\00:21:20.11 And on the seventh day God ended His work 00:21:20.14\00:21:22.74 which He had made, 00:21:22.78\00:21:24.11 and He rested on the seventh day 00:21:24.15\00:21:25.51 from all His work which he had made, 00:21:25.55\00:21:27.65 and God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, 00:21:27.68\00:21:30.05 because that in it He had rested from all His work 00:21:30.09\00:21:33.09 which God created and made." 00:21:33.12\00:21:34.89 And so, you'll notice what it says, 00:21:34.92\00:21:37.56 what day did God rest on? 00:21:37.59\00:21:39.09 Seventh. On the seventh day. 00:21:39.13\00:21:40.80 What day did He end His work on? 00:21:40.83\00:21:43.26 Seventh day. Seventh day. 00:21:43.30\00:21:45.23 What day did he sanctify? 00:21:45.27\00:21:46.80 Seventh day. 00:21:46.84\00:21:48.17 And could somebody tell me what does sanctify mean? 00:21:48.20\00:21:50.61 Set apart for a holy purpose. Right. 00:21:50.64\00:21:52.87 Set apart for a holy purpose. In the Bible. 00:22:43.96\00:22:45.33 In the Bible, there's no other record 00:22:45.36\00:22:47.50 where the seven-day week could be established 00:22:47.53\00:22:49.63 except inside the Bible. 00:22:49.66\00:22:51.00 Yeah. 00:22:51.03\00:22:52.37 So now as we started there, 00:22:52.40\00:22:53.74 Joe, you want to say something that kind of... 00:22:53.77\00:22:55.10 Well, I was thinking it would be nice 00:22:55.14\00:22:56.47 if we would read the... 00:22:56.50\00:22:57.87 The Sabbath command. Yeah. 00:22:57.91\00:22:59.31 And see what we can glean from it. 00:22:59.34\00:23:00.94 Let's do that, let's do that. 00:23:00.98\00:23:02.48 May I read it? 00:23:02.51\00:23:03.85 Tell us where we going? 00:23:03.88\00:23:05.21 Okay, we're going to go to Exodus 20. 00:23:05.25\00:23:08.35 There's the commandments, the Ten Commandments, 00:23:08.38\00:23:10.59 these are the moral law not the sacrificial law 00:23:10.62\00:23:13.99 or the health law or the other laws. 00:23:14.02\00:23:16.39 This is the moral law, 00:23:16.42\00:23:17.89 it's eternal, God says I change not. 00:23:17.93\00:23:19.86 Okay. 00:23:19.89\00:23:21.23 And so this particular one is begins on verse 8, 00:23:21.26\00:23:24.87 so it's Exodus Chapter 20 beginning with verse eight, 00:23:24.90\00:23:28.94 and this is coming from the mouth of God, I mean, 00:23:28.97\00:23:31.87 we're reading it but He is the one who said it, 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.28 in stone, 00:23:34.31\00:23:35.64 and He says, "Remember," 00:23:35.68\00:23:38.41 well, that tells us right there, 00:23:38.45\00:23:40.05 we were going to forget, so keep that in mind. 00:23:40.08\00:23:42.45 Exactly. 00:23:42.48\00:23:43.82 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, " 00:23:43.85\00:23:48.32 it didn't say keep them holy. 00:23:48.36\00:23:49.69 That's right. 00:23:49.72\00:23:51.06 You don't keep the Sabbath any day you choose, 00:23:51.09\00:23:53.23 it's the day He said, "Keep it holy. 00:23:53.26\00:23:56.83 Six days thou shalt labor and do all your work." 00:23:56.87\00:24:00.67 Six days, He didn't say we're holy. 00:24:00.70\00:24:03.84 He didn't sanctify them, and set them side for holy, 00:24:03.87\00:24:05.91 He just says, "Six days, 00:24:05.94\00:24:07.81 you shalt labor do all your work." 00:24:07.84\00:24:09.84 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord. 00:24:09.88\00:24:14.58 Now some people will say the Lord's day is Sunday. 00:24:14.62\00:24:17.59 But God didn't say that. 00:24:17.62\00:24:18.95 Right. 00:24:18.99\00:24:20.32 God says, "The Sabbath is the Lord's, 00:24:20.36\00:24:23.39 the Lord your God." 00:24:23.43\00:24:24.76 Let me pause a second... 00:24:24.79\00:24:26.13 Yes, yes, yes. 00:24:26.16\00:24:27.50 Because, you know, this is important. 00:24:27.53\00:24:28.86 "The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord, 00:24:28.90\00:24:30.23 your God," 00:24:30.27\00:24:31.60 is really important. 00:24:31.63\00:24:32.97 So when you come back that the Sabbath of the Lord, 00:24:33.00\00:24:34.37 your God, 00:24:34.40\00:24:35.74 the question is not what day is the right day, 00:24:35.77\00:24:38.47 the question is, 00:24:38.51\00:24:39.84 who is your God? Now this is really important. 00:24:39.87\00:24:42.24 Can I say expand on that, will you mind? 00:24:42.28\00:24:43.75 Who's your God? Sure. 00:24:43.78\00:24:45.25 See the thing is God knew 00:24:45.28\00:24:47.22 He was going to have competition 00:24:47.25\00:24:49.15 as to who's God because The Fallen Angel, 00:24:49.18\00:24:52.55 the leader of The Fallen Angel said... 00:24:52.59\00:24:54.79 Yeah. 00:24:54.82\00:24:56.56 "I will exalt myself above the stars of God. 00:24:56.59\00:24:59.29 I will be as the most high." 00:24:59.33\00:25:02.40 That's right. 00:25:02.43\00:25:03.77 That means he wants to be worshiped. 00:25:03.80\00:25:05.23 Yes. That's right. 00:25:05.27\00:25:06.60 Okay, so he reminds us in the commandment, 00:25:06.63\00:25:10.21 "It is the Sabbath of the Lord, your God." 00:25:10.24\00:25:13.64 Now if I may quickly this is really cool stuff, boy, 00:25:13.68\00:25:16.08 I'll tell you. 00:25:16.11\00:25:18.01 God is so smart. Oh, you have notes, too. 00:25:18.05\00:25:20.25 Listen to this, listen to this, Matthew 59 says, 00:25:20.28\00:25:23.99 "But in vain, they do worship me 00:25:24.02\00:25:25.72 teaching for doctrines the commandments of, " who? 00:25:25.75\00:25:28.02 Man. 00:25:28.06\00:25:29.39 Oh, oh, we got commandments, we don't want to be careful. 00:25:29.42\00:25:32.06 Matthew 77, "How be it in vain, 00:25:32.09\00:25:35.76 they do worship me teaching 00:25:35.80\00:25:37.37 for doctrines the commandments of man." 00:25:37.40\00:25:40.17 And that worship is in vain. Yes. 00:25:40.20\00:25:44.11 Please be, notice the little words. 00:25:44.14\00:25:46.51 Yeah. They're powerful. 00:25:46.54\00:25:48.01 And then in Titus, you know, Titus 1:14, it says, 00:25:48.04\00:25:52.45 "Not giving heed to Jewish fables 00:25:52.48\00:25:54.65 and commandments of men that turn you from the truth." 00:25:54.68\00:25:59.02 Let's get back to the truth. 00:25:59.05\00:26:00.39 Where were we? 00:26:00.42\00:26:01.76 Okay, but now, let's just point this out. 00:26:01.79\00:26:03.12 Because it's really good emphasize, 00:26:03.16\00:26:04.53 when you establish the fact that the Sabbath is 00:26:04.56\00:26:07.20 the seventh day of the week, 00:26:07.23\00:26:09.16 and that is the day that God blessed 00:26:09.20\00:26:11.10 and sanctified, and the day that God said to 00:26:11.13\00:26:12.97 "Remember to keep it holy". 00:26:13.00\00:26:15.10 Now I don't know, Elizabeth, 00:26:15.14\00:26:16.57 I'm asking you question that you to answer, 00:26:16.60\00:26:17.94 it might be yes or no, I'm just kind of going, 00:26:17.97\00:26:19.94 did you, were you ever told keep your room clean 00:26:19.97\00:26:23.14 or anything, keep anything clean? 00:26:23.18\00:26:24.98 Yes. 00:26:25.01\00:26:26.35 Okay, yeah, Mom said that, Dad said that? 00:26:26.38\00:26:28.38 Yes. 00:26:28.42\00:26:29.92 Don't forget to keep everything clean, 00:26:29.95\00:26:31.52 we just finished cleaning up the house, 00:26:31.55\00:26:32.89 whatever the case. 00:26:32.92\00:26:34.26 I was raised, were you ever raised told that? 00:26:34.29\00:26:36.29 Oh, yeah, yeah. 00:26:36.32\00:26:39.63 Keeping the room clean was a very important thing 00:26:39.66\00:26:41.26 around my house, yes. 00:26:41.30\00:26:42.76 And keeping something clean means what? 00:26:42.80\00:26:48.40 Somebody clean it. 00:26:48.44\00:26:50.21 Putting in order. 00:26:50.24\00:26:52.64 Yeah, or keep it clean means somebody already cleaned it. 00:26:52.67\00:26:56.34 Yeah. 00:26:56.38\00:26:57.71 We went to a pastor's house once 00:26:57.75\00:26:59.18 and I remember this is a funny story. 00:26:59.21\00:27:02.05 Their housekeeper vacuuming the carpet 00:27:02.08\00:27:05.82 and all the lines were just 00:27:05.85\00:27:08.82 you can see the pattern that they use, 00:27:08.86\00:27:10.19 it just looks so perfect. 00:27:10.23\00:27:11.99 And I thought, "Man, this is so clean, 00:27:12.03\00:27:14.16 this is so OCD, 00:27:14.20\00:27:17.17 obsessive compulsive, everything is just so clean." 00:27:17.20\00:27:19.83 So I was joking around, 00:27:19.87\00:27:21.20 acting like I'm going to step on it, 00:27:21.24\00:27:22.57 and I actually tilted too far forward. 00:27:22.60\00:27:25.24 I've footprint put on another, "Oh, " 00:27:25.27\00:27:28.21 and they laughed at all because once, 00:27:28.24\00:27:30.48 once it was finished, 00:27:30.51\00:27:34.55 my foot print got imprinted on it. 00:27:34.58\00:27:37.22 Yeah. 00:27:37.25\00:27:38.59 And jokingly my friends, 00:27:38.62\00:27:41.89 "Take your foot off of my carpet." 00:27:41.92\00:27:44.03 Now, you know, you know ahead of it, right? 00:27:44.06\00:27:46.83 Go ahead. Yes, He does. 00:36:25.15\00:36:26.48 He would never recommend something 00:36:26.51\00:36:29.05 that is not good for us. 00:36:29.08\00:36:31.09 And this is a beautiful passage here. 00:36:31.12\00:36:32.52 Mark 2:27 and 28. 00:36:32.55\00:36:34.86 Look at what the Lord tells us. 00:36:34.89\00:36:37.96 And by the way, 00:36:37.99\00:36:39.33 this is in direct response to people that have the Sabbath 00:36:39.36\00:36:42.76 and didn't understand the beauty of it. 00:36:42.80\00:36:44.13 "And He said to them, 00:36:44.17\00:36:46.23 'The Sabbath was made for man, 00:36:46.27\00:36:48.17 and not man for the Sabbath.' 00:36:48.20\00:36:50.47 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath." 00:36:50.51\00:36:55.31 Okay, so He's not only Lord of our lives 00:36:55.34\00:36:58.25 but He's Lord of the Sabbath. 00:36:58.28\00:36:59.95 Sabbath. Yeah. 00:36:59.98\00:37:01.32 So as Gary was pointing out and we have discovered so far, 00:37:01.35\00:37:05.59 this is a day that is to be kept holy, 00:37:05.62\00:37:08.56 to be free from our pleasures. 00:37:08.59\00:37:09.99 Let's get specific about one of, 00:37:10.03\00:37:11.66 some of the things that we kind of cease to do. 00:37:11.69\00:37:13.06 Let's get specific... 00:37:13.09\00:37:14.43 Yeah. 00:37:14.46\00:37:15.80 Because we have CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX news. 00:37:15.83\00:37:19.53 We've got magazines, 00:37:19.57\00:37:20.90 we've got our iPads or what else, 00:37:20.94\00:37:22.64 what do we have? 00:37:22.67\00:37:24.01 What is this? Texting. 00:37:24.04\00:37:25.54 We're texting our brains out, 00:37:25.57\00:37:27.34 ding, our Facebook post, 00:37:27.38\00:37:28.91 ding, Messenger, 00:37:28.94\00:37:30.41 click, click, cricket sounds. 00:37:30.45\00:37:32.38 It's all pouring in on us, isn't that true? 00:37:32.41\00:37:34.68 We live in a media saturated age. 00:37:34.72\00:37:37.29 I mean, do you text? 00:37:37.32\00:37:38.65 Yes. Okay. 00:37:38.69\00:37:40.19 Help us with texting in the Sabbath. 00:37:40.22\00:37:41.56 Kind of, how does that happen? 00:37:41.59\00:37:44.33 Well, when you talk to people, 00:37:44.36\00:37:47.93 I think some of the things you should talk about is 00:37:47.96\00:37:51.73 relating to God, relating to the Sabbath, 00:37:51.77\00:37:54.50 talk about what you do what you find that 00:37:54.54\00:37:59.64 brings you closer to God 00:37:59.67\00:38:01.38 and that you can really spend time with Him, 00:38:01.41\00:38:04.55 get to know Him better, 00:38:04.58\00:38:05.91 and that's the things 00:38:05.95\00:38:07.28 I like to talk to my friends about. 00:38:07.32\00:38:09.35 And If they bring up something, I say, 00:38:09.38\00:38:12.05 "Hey, let's talk about this. 00:38:12.09\00:38:14.62 Let's see what we can get out of this." 00:38:14.66\00:38:18.03 And that something that I like to do. 00:38:18.06\00:38:20.66 You'll guide the conversation 00:38:20.70\00:38:22.03 always hear it back to the crisis. 00:38:22.06\00:38:23.47 Doing a wonderful job. 00:38:23.50\00:38:25.07 And what else can we, 00:38:25.10\00:38:26.90 what else do we not do on the Sabbath, honey? 00:38:26.94\00:38:29.10 Well, we don't watch TV, 00:38:29.14\00:38:32.71 for secular shows, we watch 3ABN, of course. 00:38:32.74\00:38:34.71 Right. 00:38:34.74\00:38:36.08 But we don't watch secular shows, 00:38:36.11\00:38:37.81 we don't open our secular mail. 00:38:37.85\00:38:41.82 Even secular e-mail, 00:38:41.85\00:38:43.79 we leave that out on the Sabbath 00:38:43.82\00:38:45.59 because our concentration is on the Lord. 00:38:45.62\00:38:48.12 That's right. Especially on the Sabbath. 00:38:48.16\00:38:50.76 And so it's every day, but on the Sabbath, 00:38:50.79\00:38:53.76 we don't do those particular things, so... 00:38:53.80\00:38:56.97 And we don't, and this is why I love as a teacher, 00:38:57.00\00:38:59.37 you know, no school work. 00:38:59.40\00:39:00.94 Exactly. 00:39:00.97\00:39:02.94 No school work. And no housework. 00:39:02.97\00:39:04.31 Exactly. That's right. 00:39:04.34\00:39:05.74 And why do we not do these things, Joe? 00:39:05.77\00:39:07.91 Well, it's because in the commandment, 00:39:07.94\00:39:11.01 if we were to continue, 00:39:11.05\00:39:12.38 we find out that God identifies himself as the creator. 00:39:12.41\00:39:15.82 Yeah. Right. 00:39:15.85\00:39:17.19 That's the second book, 00:39:17.22\00:39:18.55 nature Is like a pagan word to me 00:39:18.59\00:39:21.39 to substitute the real word which is creation. 00:39:21.42\00:39:25.43 And God says know me, 00:39:25.46\00:39:27.73 and when we fellowship with Him on a Sabbath day 00:39:27.76\00:39:30.07 in nature in creation, we know Him. 00:39:30.10\00:39:33.77 Look at all He's done all these skills, 00:39:33.80\00:39:35.24 He says, "Everything on heaven I created, 00:39:35.27\00:39:37.37 everything in heaven, 00:39:37.41\00:39:38.74 everything on the earth, everything in the sea." 00:39:38.77\00:39:40.11 And it's just amazing, 00:39:40.14\00:39:42.24 because you can go out and as far as you can go, 00:39:42.28\00:39:45.08 when you get to that brick wall, 00:39:45.11\00:39:46.85 my question is what's on the other side? 00:39:46.88\00:39:48.95 More. More. 00:39:48.98\00:39:50.72 When you go inward, 00:39:50.75\00:39:52.09 this is hard to swallow but take it. 00:39:52.12\00:39:53.56 When you go inward, 00:39:53.59\00:39:54.92 I don't care what you've find the tiniest thing possible, 00:39:54.96\00:39:57.96 it's made out of something else. 00:39:57.99\00:39:59.33 Yeah. That's true. 00:39:59.36\00:40:00.70 So there's no end inward or outward, 00:40:00.73\00:40:02.60 and if we could be fascinated by this, 00:40:02.63\00:40:04.83 instead of tall buildings or other things, you know, 00:40:04.87\00:40:07.44 we would know God. 00:40:07.47\00:40:09.04 We'd have that relationship. 00:40:09.07\00:40:10.47 And throughout the Bible, He says, 00:40:10.51\00:40:12.51 "I'm the God of creation, 00:40:12.54\00:40:13.94 I made this, I made that." 00:40:13.98\00:40:15.31 And even in the last book 00:40:15.34\00:40:16.68 when He was about to lead us in through the gates, 00:40:16.71\00:40:18.41 into the kingdom, 00:40:18.45\00:40:20.12 He tells us and reminds us worship the God of creation. 00:40:20.15\00:40:24.62 That's right. 00:40:24.65\00:40:25.99 The one who made, made, made 00:40:26.02\00:40:27.62 because there's a lot of gods out there 00:40:27.66\00:40:29.62 but none of them except Him are the creator. 00:40:29.66\00:40:32.46 Wow. Well said. 00:40:32.49\00:40:33.83 You know, I call Joe, I call Joe my zealot. 00:40:33.86\00:40:36.36 Yeah. 00:40:36.40\00:40:37.73 'Cause Joe's champion for the truth. 00:40:37.77\00:40:39.10 Yes. 00:40:39.13\00:40:40.47 And I like that, I really do 00:40:40.50\00:40:41.84 because sometimes people easily swayed 00:40:41.87\00:40:44.14 and easily convinced to go other ways 00:40:44.17\00:40:46.44 but once you discover the truth, 00:40:46.47\00:40:48.04 it's a beautiful thing. 00:40:48.08\00:40:49.41 Something I've discovered in keeping the Sabbath is, 00:40:49.44\00:40:53.88 if I don't keep the Sabbath holy, 00:40:53.92\00:40:56.79 if I don't put these things aside, 00:40:56.82\00:40:59.09 my week is off balance. 00:40:59.12\00:41:00.76 I'm not, I'm like a top that's wobblier. 00:41:00.79\00:41:03.73 When you spend the day with God on the Sabbath 00:41:03.76\00:41:07.10 and you put all those earthly worldly things aside, 00:41:07.13\00:41:10.77 you become centered. 00:41:10.80\00:41:13.17 Things don't bug you like, 00:41:13.20\00:41:14.60 you know, your tempers, you know, 00:41:14.64\00:41:15.97 not as short as it might have been. 00:41:16.00\00:41:17.67 You have more patience so I know with my kids I do. 00:41:17.71\00:41:20.68 And I've also found as the father 00:41:20.71\00:41:23.45 and the husband of the home 00:41:23.48\00:41:25.25 that when my relationship with God's not right, 00:41:25.28\00:41:28.45 it affects my family, and my kids, my wife. 00:41:28.48\00:41:31.72 And it's not even that I've been cross with them. 00:41:31.75\00:41:33.79 It's just, it seems like we break the barrier, 00:41:33.82\00:41:36.69 and the enemy is allowed to come in and affect our, 00:41:36.73\00:41:40.63 start affecting our family but as a man, 00:41:40.66\00:41:43.03 as the husband and father of the home... 00:41:43.06\00:41:44.40 The priest of home. 00:41:44.43\00:41:45.77 It's very important I think for married couples 00:41:45.80\00:41:48.10 for the man to really have that relationship with God 00:41:48.14\00:41:50.37 because the whole family does suffer. 00:41:50.41\00:41:52.01 I mean, I actually see it in my family and my kids, 00:41:52.04\00:41:54.88 when I'm not centered 00:41:54.91\00:41:56.24 and not having my relationship with God. 00:41:56.28\00:41:58.35 That's important. 00:41:58.38\00:41:59.71 Going back to relationship, 00:41:59.75\00:42:01.08 if you don't have a relationship, 00:42:01.12\00:42:02.45 what we're telling you is of absolutely no value 00:42:02.48\00:42:04.35 because you can't work your way into, 00:42:04.39\00:42:06.29 you cannot on watch enough television to be saved. 00:42:06.32\00:42:09.79 This is all in the context of a relationship 00:42:09.82\00:42:11.69 and like anniversary 00:42:11.73\00:42:13.83 or when you have a family member 00:42:13.86\00:42:15.66 you want to spend time with. 00:42:15.70\00:42:17.03 Imagine going to a family member's house 00:42:17.07\00:42:19.47 and while they're trying to share with you, 00:42:19.50\00:42:22.14 you've just been out, 00:42:22.17\00:42:23.51 "Hold on wait, wait, wait, 00:42:23.54\00:42:24.91 he's about to kick a field goal, 00:42:24.94\00:42:26.27 wait, wait, 'cause he was on the news. 00:42:26.31\00:42:27.68 Wait, wait, gonna go to the store as I, 00:42:27.71\00:42:29.98 wait a minute, 00:42:30.01\00:42:31.81 didn't even care about communicating with me." 00:42:31.85\00:42:34.78 And God is saying in the relationship 00:42:34.82\00:42:36.22 like anniversary. 00:42:36.25\00:42:37.59 Yes. 00:42:37.62\00:42:38.95 Anniversary could be the worst day, 00:42:38.99\00:42:40.32 if the marriage is horrible. Right. 00:42:40.36\00:42:41.69 Or the best day if the marriage is good. 00:42:41.72\00:42:43.79 It's always the best for us. Praise the Lord. 00:42:43.83\00:42:46.09 And the weekly if we don't use the word anniversary, 00:42:46.13\00:42:48.16 what could we use, weeklyversary? 00:42:48.20\00:42:50.13 No. 00:42:50.17\00:42:52.17 Yeah, that's good word. That would be good. 00:42:52.20\00:42:53.94 every week the Lord reminds us, "Hey, Gary. 00:42:53.97\00:42:56.37 Hey, Elizabeth. I'm here. 00:42:56.40\00:42:58.27 Got a whole lot of fun things to share with you 00:42:58.31\00:43:00.44 but you got to... 00:43:00.48\00:43:01.88 Your things are not fun compared to mine. 00:43:01.91\00:43:04.18 Let's go ahead and find out what I want to share with you." 00:43:04.21\00:43:06.21 And matter of fact, there's something else. 00:43:06.25\00:43:07.72 Now let's just hit what we've talked about so far. 00:43:07.75\00:43:09.48 Sabbath is holy. It's about relationship. 00:43:09.52\00:43:11.99 Yes. 00:43:12.02\00:43:13.36 It's about not turning the television off 00:43:13.39\00:43:15.22 because there's enough news. 00:43:15.26\00:43:16.59 You'll catch it up when the sun sets 00:43:16.62\00:43:20.60 or in the next day. 00:43:20.63\00:43:21.96 And sometimes, 00:43:22.00\00:43:23.33 you have to shut your mind down. 00:43:23.37\00:43:24.70 Recently, honey, 00:43:24.73\00:43:26.43 on CNN they pointed out there's a new, 00:43:26.47\00:43:29.14 it's not a law but kind of like a parameter, 00:43:29.17\00:43:32.47 they're passing in Europe. 00:43:32.51\00:43:33.84 They're saying to people, 00:43:33.88\00:43:35.21 "When you leave work and go home, unplug." 00:43:35.24\00:43:38.95 Not the Sabbath, they're saying in the evenings, 00:43:38.98\00:43:41.38 when you go home, unplug. 00:43:41.42\00:43:43.08 Don't keep doing work from your computer, turn off. 00:43:43.12\00:43:45.55 Don't keep checking the office emails, unplug. 00:43:45.59\00:43:49.26 And the commentators on CNN said, 00:43:49.29\00:43:51.43 "It would be wonderful if they do that in America." 00:43:51.46\00:43:54.26 They were capitalistic. 00:43:54.30\00:43:55.96 But there's something else, so let's talk about 00:43:56.00\00:43:57.40 what about people 00:43:57.43\00:43:58.77 in the professional industry of health? 00:43:58.80\00:44:00.90 What about neighbors that need, have needs? 00:44:00.94\00:44:03.57 Let's talk about this one in Matthew. 00:44:03.61\00:44:04.94 Yes. Yes. 00:44:04.97\00:44:06.57 How it is important to do good things on the Sabbath. 00:44:06.61\00:44:10.11 And Jesus brings us out. 00:44:10.15\00:44:11.65 This is actually a two-program subject, 00:44:11.68\00:44:13.62 don't you think? 00:44:13.65\00:44:15.02 We might come back with part two sooner or later. 00:44:15.05\00:44:17.65 But Matthew 12. 00:44:17.69\00:44:21.32 We're going to look at verse 11 to 13. 00:44:21.36\00:44:24.33 "Then He said to them..." 00:44:24.36\00:44:27.33 What chapter? Matthew chapter... 00:44:27.36\00:44:28.70 Start from verse 9 because that really, 00:44:28.73\00:44:31.23 that pulls it all together. 00:44:31.27\00:44:32.60 Start from verse 9. Okay. 00:44:32.63\00:44:34.10 "Now when He had departed from there, 00:44:34.14\00:44:36.30 He went into their synagogue. 00:44:36.34\00:44:39.17 And behold there was a man who had a withered hand. 00:44:39.21\00:44:42.81 And they asked Him, saying, 00:44:42.84\00:44:45.15 'Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?' 00:44:45.18\00:44:48.08 that they might accuse Him. 00:44:48.12\00:44:51.49 Then He said to them, 00:44:51.52\00:44:54.32 'What man is there among you 00:44:54.36\00:44:56.42 who has one sheep, 00:44:56.46\00:44:58.46 and if it falls into the pit on the Sabbath, 00:44:58.49\00:45:01.93 will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 00:45:01.96\00:45:07.04 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? 00:45:07.07\00:45:12.74 Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.' 00:45:12.77\00:45:17.05 " And verse 13. 00:45:17.08\00:45:18.41 "Then He said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' 00:45:18.45\00:45:22.08 And he stretched it out, 00:45:22.12\00:45:23.49 and it was restored as whole as the other." 00:45:23.52\00:45:27.86 Now we don't... 00:45:27.89\00:45:29.22 It was healed. He was healed. 00:45:29.26\00:45:30.59 And when did it happen? On the Sabbath. 00:45:30.63\00:45:32.66 Wow, so what principle are we getting here? 00:45:32.69\00:45:34.36 Is it good to, what about people that have needs 00:45:34.40\00:45:37.10 that must be met, should we wait till sunset 00:45:37.13\00:45:39.27 if they have these needs? 00:45:39.30\00:45:40.64 No. 00:45:40.67\00:45:42.00 Well, it goes to show that, well, 00:45:42.04\00:45:43.44 God has given us a commandment. 00:45:43.47\00:45:45.24 He didn't tighten it down to 00:45:45.27\00:45:47.34 "It has to be this way and no other way." 00:45:47.38\00:45:49.94 He left it nebulous, sort of, 00:45:49.98\00:45:51.51 open for each one to judge and decide for himself. 00:45:51.55\00:45:55.18 Firefighters, doctors, 00:45:55.22\00:45:58.42 policemen, caregivers, 00:45:58.45\00:45:59.79 nursing homes, 00:45:59.82\00:46:01.16 I mean, there's people who have needs 00:46:01.19\00:46:02.86 and God is saying, 00:46:02.89\00:46:04.76 "Don't neglect the one who can't get to the kitchen 00:46:04.79\00:46:06.93 to feed fix the food. 00:46:06.96\00:46:08.30 Feed them. 00:46:08.33\00:46:09.66 Do the things. Help your people. 00:46:09.70\00:46:11.30 The Sabbath is for man not for..." 00:46:11.33\00:46:13.03 You know, and so what would it be like 00:46:13.07\00:46:15.70 if a child broke his arm 00:46:15.74\00:46:17.34 and there was no doctor in the emergency room 00:46:17.37\00:46:19.37 to fix his arm? 00:46:19.41\00:46:20.74 God would be saying, "I don't care. 00:46:20.78\00:46:22.44 I'm the boss. 00:46:22.48\00:46:23.81 Let him suffer for another day." 00:46:23.85\00:46:25.38 No, no, no, no, no, God is cool. 00:46:25.41\00:46:26.75 Come on. 00:46:26.78\00:46:28.12 What kind of God would that be? 00:46:28.15\00:46:29.48 Would it be a God that 00:46:29.52\00:46:30.85 we'd even want to sort of I mean... 00:46:30.89\00:46:32.22 Would we want to spend the day with a God like that? 00:46:32.25\00:46:33.59 No. You made the point. 00:46:33.62\00:46:34.96 If it falls in the ditch, get him out, if it's thirsty, 00:46:34.99\00:46:36.86 take it to water. 00:46:36.89\00:46:38.23 Come on, now be sensible. 00:46:38.26\00:46:39.76 Where is your commonsense? 00:46:39.79\00:46:41.13 God has got commonsense. 00:46:41.16\00:46:42.50 And what's bringing, 00:46:42.53\00:46:43.87 what comes out here is we had an instance 00:46:43.90\00:46:46.33 once I was on my way to church in Brooklyn going to Bethel. 00:46:46.37\00:46:50.17 And there was a guy whose car stalled in the intersection. 00:46:50.21\00:46:53.44 And I had my suit on. 00:46:53.48\00:46:55.54 I was going to church. I was sharp. 00:46:55.58\00:46:58.65 And this guy jumped out of his car. 00:46:58.68\00:47:00.42 And in Brooklyn, you can't stall too long. 00:47:00.45\00:47:02.28 So... 00:47:06.25\00:47:07.59 Now you can, back then you couldn't. 00:47:07.62\00:47:08.96 Well, back then, yeah. 00:47:08.99\00:47:10.33 It was kind of really rough. 00:47:10.36\00:47:11.69 So he stalled and he jumped out of his driver side, 00:47:11.73\00:47:13.46 and he couldn't move that car for anything. 00:47:13.50\00:47:17.47 It was a big car Buick Electra 225. 00:47:17.50\00:47:20.00 So I was walking, passing, I looked at him and he, 00:47:20.04\00:47:23.14 he kind of glanced at me and when his eyes caught me, 00:47:23.17\00:47:25.11 I thought, "Go to church 00:47:25.14\00:47:26.81 and leave this guy pushing his car here. 00:47:26.84\00:47:28.64 It's the Sabbath 00:47:28.68\00:47:30.01 or it's lawful to do good on the Sabbath." 00:47:30.05\00:47:34.05 I got rolled up my sleeves 00:47:34.08\00:47:36.75 and got on the passenger side and when I did that, 00:47:36.79\00:47:39.32 three other people, 00:47:39.35\00:47:40.69 somebody got in back and pushed, 00:47:40.72\00:47:42.09 and all together 00:47:42.12\00:47:43.46 we alleviated this man suffering on the Sabbath. 00:47:43.49\00:47:46.39 And see what we want to bring out is 00:47:46.43\00:47:48.00 while we don't seek our own pleasure 00:47:48.03\00:47:49.90 and find our own words 00:47:49.93\00:47:51.27 and watch television do all these things that, 00:47:51.30\00:47:52.83 draw our minds away from God, 00:47:52.87\00:47:54.97 Gary, point you emphasized so much, 00:47:55.00\00:47:56.81 how will people know about the Lord of the Sabbath? 00:47:56.84\00:47:58.67 Yes, a relation. Plus He's revealed though us. 00:47:58.71\00:48:02.18 What about cooking, honey? 00:48:02.21\00:48:04.25 Well, you're supposed to have your cooking done 00:48:04.28\00:48:08.98 by sunset Friday. 00:48:09.02\00:48:11.19 Have all your cooking done, everything out of the way, 00:48:11.22\00:48:13.99 and that's what I do especially when I'm having company. 00:48:14.02\00:48:16.83 I get everything out the way. 00:48:16.86\00:48:19.33 All the cooking done 'cause on Sabbath, 00:48:19.36\00:48:23.63 I want to be free and clear of doing all of that. 00:48:23.67\00:48:26.50 Even dishes, I don't like to do on the Sabbath. 00:48:26.53\00:48:28.37 Right, we would always wait till sunset. 00:48:28.40\00:48:30.11 We wait till out to sunset to wash the dishes. 00:48:30.14\00:48:31.54 And so Sabbath is so special, 00:48:31.57\00:48:34.31 but someone may ask the question, 00:48:34.34\00:48:37.88 when does Sabbath begin. 00:48:37.91\00:48:40.55 When does it begin? 00:48:40.58\00:48:41.92 Is it just Saturday morning? 00:48:41.95\00:48:43.72 You know, when does it begin? 00:48:43.75\00:48:45.49 Okay. Let's look at Leviticus 23:32. 00:48:45.52\00:48:47.72 Okay. 00:48:47.76\00:48:49.09 It's on our syllables actually, 00:48:49.12\00:48:50.46 it's right under the first point. 00:48:50.49\00:48:51.83 Oh. 00:48:51.86\00:48:53.19 If you look at that point there, 00:48:53.23\00:48:54.56 and the more I look at this topic, 00:48:54.60\00:48:56.06 the more I'm convinced, 00:48:56.10\00:48:57.43 we got to touch this again. 00:48:57.47\00:48:58.80 Yeah. 00:48:58.83\00:49:00.17 There are some other principles, 00:49:00.20\00:49:01.54 Joe, you know, have you noticed that? 00:49:01.57\00:49:02.90 Yeah. 00:49:02.94\00:49:04.27 We're kind of polishing the car, 00:49:04.31\00:49:05.64 we haven't even gotten to see it. 00:49:05.67\00:49:07.01 Yeah. 00:49:07.04\00:49:08.38 So let's look at it 00:49:08.41\00:49:09.74 because it's a very important relationship. 00:49:09.78\00:49:11.11 You have the Leviticus, read that for us, honey. 00:49:11.15\00:49:12.48 "From evening to evening, 00:49:12.51\00:49:13.92 you shall celebrate your Sabbath." 00:49:13.95\00:49:15.98 Okay, from evening to evening. 00:49:16.02\00:49:17.42 So what is, when is evening? 00:49:17.45\00:49:18.79 How do we know it's evening? 00:49:18.82\00:49:20.16 Right. When sun goes down. 00:49:20.19\00:49:21.79 How do we know, when the evening ends? 00:49:21.82\00:49:23.76 When it rises. 00:49:23.79\00:49:27.06 So but notice what it says, 00:49:27.10\00:49:28.73 it didn't say, from evening to morning. 00:49:28.76\00:49:30.13 No. 00:49:30.17\00:49:31.50 It says from evening to evening. 00:49:31.53\00:49:34.24 So how many hours apart are the two evenings? 00:49:34.27\00:49:36.87 The way I like to see it is when it when does the day end? 00:49:36.91\00:49:40.04 The day ends when the sun goes down. 00:49:40.08\00:49:41.44 That's right. 00:49:41.48\00:49:42.81 That has to be the beginning of the next day. 00:49:42.84\00:49:44.18 That's right. 00:49:44.21\00:49:45.55 So evening is the beginning of the day. 00:49:45.58\00:49:47.22 Right. That's right. 00:49:47.25\00:49:48.58 Because, he said, 00:49:48.62\00:49:49.95 the evening and the morning were the first day. 00:49:49.98\00:49:51.32 The evening came first. Yes. 00:49:51.35\00:49:53.05 Because the other day ended. 00:49:53.09\00:49:54.42 That's right. 00:49:54.46\00:49:55.79 So comes the evening as the beginning of the day. 00:49:55.82\00:49:57.86 And it's a 24-hour day to evening again 00:49:57.89\00:50:00.63 when the sun sets and that day ends. 00:50:00.66\00:50:02.03 That's right. 00:50:02.06\00:50:03.40 You know, He knows what He's doing. 00:50:03.43\00:50:04.77 I think Gary mentioned, 00:50:04.80\00:50:06.13 he thought about what he's going up 00:50:06.17\00:50:07.50 for the Sabbath with such so strict at times. 00:50:07.54\00:50:09.20 What is that? 00:50:09.24\00:50:10.57 I couldn't wait for the sun to go down, yeah. 00:50:10.61\00:50:13.94 And even when we say happy new year, what do we, 00:50:13.98\00:50:15.78 when do we do that? 00:50:15.81\00:50:17.15 New Year's Eve. 00:50:17.18\00:50:18.51 New Year's Eve. 00:50:18.55\00:50:19.88 Well, midnight. 00:50:19.91\00:50:21.25 Well, actually the world does it at midnight. 00:50:21.28\00:50:22.62 Midnight, oh, we do ours at sunset. 00:50:22.65\00:50:23.99 That's right. 00:50:24.02\00:50:25.35 Our New Year's Eve, 00:50:25.39\00:50:26.72 we had our New Year's Eve program, 00:50:26.76\00:50:28.19 every year we have it sunset. 00:50:28.22\00:50:30.73 And Elizabeth was there. 00:50:30.76\00:50:32.09 Yes, I was there. 00:50:32.13\00:50:33.46 Enjoyed that. That was a good time. 00:50:33.50\00:50:34.83 That was good. 00:50:34.86\00:50:36.20 So we looked at and said, "Okay, 00:50:36.23\00:50:37.57 4:36 is going to be a sunset." 00:50:37.60\00:50:39.30 That's what it was here in the Central Time Zone. 00:50:39.33\00:50:41.34 And when the sun went down, we said, "Happy New Year." 00:50:41.37\00:50:44.84 And now what do they call 12:00 at night, 00:50:44.87\00:50:50.65 what do they call that? Midnight. 00:50:50.68\00:50:52.01 Which means what? 00:50:52.05\00:50:53.38 The middle of the night. Yeah. 00:50:53.42\00:50:54.75 The middle of the night, the night didn't start there, 00:50:54.78\00:50:56.28 it's the middle of the night. 00:50:56.32\00:50:58.45 And there was a time 00:50:58.49\00:50:59.82 when this Sabbath was new to the early Adventists, 00:50:59.85\00:51:02.09 they didn't know when it began. 00:51:02.12\00:51:03.59 So they always go from 6 o'clock to 6 o'clock. 00:51:03.63\00:51:06.59 And then there are some people that live in time zones, 00:51:06.63\00:51:08.76 we've got to address this. 00:51:08.80\00:51:10.13 What if you lived in Alaska? 00:51:10.17\00:51:11.77 Oh, yeah. 00:51:11.80\00:51:13.13 It's dark for six months. Yeah. 00:51:13.17\00:51:16.17 Can you imagine I worked there for six months? 00:51:16.20\00:51:18.77 Or it's light for six months. 00:51:18.81\00:51:20.61 There's always an answer. 00:51:20.64\00:51:21.98 There's always an answer. 00:51:22.01\00:51:23.35 Take for example, you know, in Alaska, 00:51:23.38\00:51:25.15 when the sun dips and starts back up, 00:51:25.18\00:51:27.08 that's the change. 00:51:27.12\00:51:28.45 That's right. Okay. 00:51:28.48\00:51:30.25 And so you honor the Sabbath, and in some of those places 00:51:30.29\00:51:33.22 people said, "Okay, if 6pm to 6pm the next day..." 00:51:33.25\00:51:37.33 And the Lord understands 00:51:37.36\00:51:38.69 because the principle there is what matters, see. 00:51:38.73\00:51:41.60 It judges the heart. Yes. 00:51:41.63\00:51:43.70 I think, you know, 00:51:43.73\00:51:45.10 the preparation getting ready for it, 00:51:45.13\00:51:46.97 that's what we try to, 00:51:47.00\00:51:48.34 we've been really trying to do that 00:51:48.37\00:51:49.70 in our house so prepare. 00:51:49.74\00:51:51.11 And I called it preparation day for the Sabbath. 00:51:51.14\00:51:53.51 So that you're not rushing around to get things done, 00:51:53.54\00:51:56.68 and so it really almost doesn't really matter what time, 00:51:56.71\00:51:59.08 you know, you could see your, "Okay, 00:51:59.11\00:52:00.85 sun downs at 4:32 or 8:32 whatever." 00:52:00.88\00:52:03.82 But if it's almost if you're looking at that time 00:52:03.85\00:52:06.62 what's the last moment I can do something, 00:52:06.65\00:52:08.49 are you really prepared? 00:52:08.52\00:52:09.99 You know. That's a good point. 00:52:10.03\00:52:11.86 So it's nice to, you know, be looking ahead so that, 00:52:11.89\00:52:15.36 you know, we do have that preparation done 00:52:15.40\00:52:16.97 so that when the hours do come, 00:52:17.00\00:52:18.67 you can invite the angels 00:52:18.70\00:52:20.04 and God's presence into your house. 00:52:20.07\00:52:21.67 Yes. 00:52:21.70\00:52:23.04 And, you know, the main reason 00:52:23.07\00:52:24.41 this is something for those of us 00:52:24.44\00:52:25.77 who travel remember we were in Herald Singers, 00:52:25.81\00:52:27.14 we traveled quite a bit. 00:52:27.18\00:52:28.51 And most of the places we went 00:52:28.54\00:52:29.88 to churches would have meals for us, 00:52:29.91\00:52:31.25 but there were times 00:52:31.28\00:52:32.61 we would go to church on Sabbath, 00:52:32.65\00:52:34.02 and we didn't eat anything that morning 00:52:34.05\00:52:35.38 when we left the hotel, and there would be no lunch. 00:52:35.42\00:52:38.39 Now did we have the freedom on the Sabbath 00:52:44.63\00:52:48.06 to alleviate our own suffering? 00:52:48.10\00:52:49.60 Mm-hm. 00:52:49.63\00:52:50.97 Those were the odd times, I always said, 00:52:51.00\00:52:52.33 "You know, we got to find a place to eat. 00:52:52.37\00:52:54.47 We got to find something to eat. 00:52:54.50\00:52:55.84 We'll have no energy by this evening." 00:52:55.87\00:52:58.31 Those are those times with the principle applies 00:52:58.34\00:53:01.28 and The Lord understands that. 00:53:01.31\00:53:03.58 But don't make it so rigid, 00:53:03.61\00:53:05.68 or at the same time don't become so relaxed 00:53:05.71\00:53:09.28 that you're at home and you say, "Hey, tomorrow, 00:53:09.32\00:53:12.15 Gary, let's go out to Applebee's for lunch." 00:53:12.19\00:53:15.09 Yeah. 00:53:15.12\00:53:16.46 Seeking thy own pleasure. There you go. 00:53:16.49\00:53:18.56 Instead of pleasure with God. 00:53:18.59\00:53:19.93 Well, I don't think that's so thankful that 00:53:19.96\00:53:21.56 Jesus and His ministry 00:53:21.60\00:53:23.06 and His life illustrated proper Sabbath keeping. 00:53:23.10\00:53:24.87 Yes. 00:53:24.90\00:53:26.23 So that we could, you know, have an idea of how to keep it, 00:53:26.27\00:53:29.40 rather than, you know, being either too rigid 00:53:29.44\00:53:31.71 or too relaxed like you are saying. 00:53:31.74\00:53:34.24 It's the talking to my mind real quickly, 00:53:34.28\00:53:35.61 do you remember the disciples on the, 00:53:35.64\00:53:36.98 they walk through the field on the Sabbath 00:53:37.01\00:53:38.35 and they pick... 00:53:38.38\00:53:39.71 Yeah. 00:53:39.75\00:53:41.08 And they begin to eat and what did the Jews say? 00:53:41.12\00:53:42.45 Oh, word. Yeah. 00:53:42.48\00:53:43.82 They were breaking the Sabbath. 00:53:43.85\00:53:45.65 The Lord said these guys are hungry. 00:53:45.69\00:53:47.96 If they what... 00:53:47.99\00:53:49.52 Didn't you ever read a boy Deva went to the temple 00:53:49.56\00:53:51.99 and ate the bread on the Sabbath? 00:53:52.03\00:53:53.56 He was hungry. 00:53:53.60\00:53:55.03 So this is the principle being pointed out, 00:53:55.06\00:53:56.46 the Sabbath is not a burden, can we say Amen to that? 00:53:56.50\00:53:58.97 Amen. 00:53:59.00\00:54:00.34 It's the Sabbath is delight. 00:54:00.37\00:54:01.70 I want to, I want to, you know, Joe, 00:54:01.74\00:54:03.07 our time is going by so quickly. 00:54:03.10\00:54:04.44 Oh, going to say, I wish we had more time. 00:54:04.47\00:54:05.81 We could do this topic again. 00:54:05.84\00:54:07.18 You have a point you want to make though? 00:54:07.21\00:54:08.54 Oh, don't judge other people 00:54:08.58\00:54:11.18 what they're doing on the Sabbath 00:54:11.21\00:54:12.55 because you can't read the heart. 00:54:12.58\00:54:14.62 Okay, I'll just give you a quick example, 00:54:14.65\00:54:16.89 two men they both have daughters nine years old. 00:54:16.92\00:54:20.49 You're not supposed to go snorkeling on the Sabbath. 00:54:20.52\00:54:23.43 Don't you dare, 00:54:23.46\00:54:24.79 you're seeking your own pleasure. 00:54:24.83\00:54:26.19 So there's the two men 00:54:26.23\00:54:27.56 with their two daughters in this, in this lake, 00:54:27.60\00:54:30.00 and they're each doing their thing, 00:54:30.03\00:54:31.43 and one of them, I tell everybody, okay, 00:54:31.47\00:54:33.97 they're sinners, they're sinners. 00:54:34.00\00:54:35.44 "Excuse me," God say, "wait a minute, 00:54:35.47\00:54:38.24 let me do the judging." 00:54:38.27\00:54:40.14 Because one of them splashing water on his skin, 00:54:40.18\00:54:42.74 splashing back in their being frolicking having okay, 00:54:42.78\00:54:45.11 and that's play. 00:54:45.15\00:54:46.68 Okay, that's seeking your own pleasure. 00:54:46.72\00:54:48.18 The other one sets her and tells his daughter, 00:54:48.22\00:54:51.25 "I'm going to go, we're going down, 00:54:51.29\00:54:53.42 and I'm going to point at something 00:54:53.46\00:54:54.79 I want you to pay attention to what I point at 00:54:54.82\00:54:56.73 and study it." 00:54:56.76\00:54:58.09 And they will come back. 00:54:58.13\00:54:59.46 So they come back up and they sit on the rock, 00:54:59.49\00:55:00.83 he points to the fish down there, 00:55:00.86\00:55:02.20 and they come back up, 00:55:02.23\00:55:03.57 sit on rock, and then he says to his daughter, 00:55:03.60\00:55:04.97 "Did you notice that, that fish had no scales? 00:55:05.00\00:55:09.00 Did you notice that, 00:55:09.04\00:55:10.37 that fish's mouth wasn't on the front 00:55:10.41\00:55:12.07 but on the bottom of his face?" 00:55:12.11\00:55:14.48 That is what God created 00:55:14.51\00:55:16.81 to clean up the bottom of the lake, 00:55:16.85\00:55:18.48 don't eat those. 00:55:18.51\00:55:19.85 That's why he gave them no scales 00:55:19.88\00:55:21.22 so you'd know not to eat them. 00:55:21.25\00:55:23.05 This is the second book. 00:55:23.08\00:55:24.65 This is learning about God 00:55:24.69\00:55:26.25 and loving him for what he's done. 00:55:26.29\00:55:28.52 How is that a sin? 00:55:28.56\00:55:30.29 And, you know, that's a very good point 00:55:30.33\00:55:31.83 because you can walk out into the forest and see birds, 00:55:31.86\00:55:34.36 but what if you want to find out 00:55:34.40\00:55:35.73 about fish on the Sabbath? 00:55:35.76\00:55:37.47 You know, that for those who live near a lake, 00:55:37.50\00:55:39.07 for those who live in your beautiful location. 00:55:39.10\00:55:40.70 But I'm just saying... 00:55:40.74\00:55:42.07 Flexible, all I'm saying is watch out for the heart. 00:55:42.10\00:55:44.27 The heart... That will be the judging. 00:55:44.31\00:55:45.64 The heart is the most important thing 00:55:45.67\00:55:47.01 in matter of fact, honey, 00:55:47.04\00:55:48.38 there's a text in the Ezekiel 20:20. 00:55:48.41\00:55:50.71 I want to share with our listeners 00:55:50.75\00:55:52.15 and our viewers before we go away 00:55:52.18\00:55:54.05 because the Sabbath is a, it's a huge sign, 00:55:54.08\00:55:58.45 it's a beautiful sign. 00:55:58.49\00:55:59.82 It says, "Hallow my Sabbaths, 00:55:59.85\00:56:01.82 and they will be a sign between me and you, 00:56:01.86\00:56:05.63 that you may know that I am the Lord, your God." 00:56:05.66\00:56:10.07 Wow. 00:56:10.10\00:56:11.57 Gary, Elizabeth, Nancy, Joe, I think the clock just, 00:56:11.60\00:56:16.57 they oiled at the clock today just a little way from us. 00:56:16.60\00:56:19.51 But let's kind a recap a few points here, 00:56:19.54\00:56:21.91 one very important point, 00:56:21.94\00:56:23.48 The Lord made the Sabbath as a blessing to mankind. 00:56:23.51\00:56:26.31 Can we all agree with? Amen. 00:56:26.35\00:56:27.68 He said the Sabbath is made for man 00:56:27.72\00:56:29.75 and not man for the Sabbath. 00:56:29.78\00:56:31.12 He said, "Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy." 00:56:31.15\00:56:33.56 It's a day He sanctified 00:56:33.59\00:56:35.22 and when you are involved in sanctified activity, 00:56:35.26\00:56:37.66 touching someone else's life, 00:56:37.69\00:56:39.43 alleviating someone suffering, learning about God and nature, 00:56:39.46\00:56:43.67 turning off the school books 00:56:43.70\00:56:45.47 and turning on the holy book, 00:56:45.50\00:56:47.64 turning off CNN, and ABC, and NBC, 00:56:47.67\00:56:49.60 and allowing the Lord's music to permeate your home, 00:56:49.64\00:56:52.44 sit with your children, 00:56:52.47\00:56:53.88 get your meals ready before the Sabbath, 00:56:53.91\00:56:56.04 all that washing and the clothing 00:56:56.08\00:56:57.91 that you want to do, 00:56:57.95\00:56:59.48 wait till Sunday to do that. 00:56:59.51\00:57:00.85 That's right. 00:57:00.88\00:57:02.22 It's God's special time, 00:57:02.25\00:57:03.59 and if you really have a thriving 00:57:03.62\00:57:05.15 or want to have a thriving relationship with Jesus, 00:57:05.19\00:57:08.02 understand the principles 00:57:08.06\00:57:09.39 and follow the examples of Jesus. 00:57:09.42\00:57:11.43 You know, Gary, you know, 00:57:11.46\00:57:13.23 fell if we follow the examples of Jesus, 00:57:13.26\00:57:15.46 if we do what Jesus did, 00:57:15.50\00:57:18.30 you'll never be lost. 00:57:18.33\00:57:19.67 Amen. 00:57:19.70\00:57:21.04 So who's our example, honey? 00:57:21.07\00:57:22.40 Jesus is always our example. 00:57:22.44\00:57:23.77 And why should we keep the commandments because what? 00:57:23.81\00:57:25.14 We love him. 00:57:25.17\00:57:26.51 Amen.
