The program today is actually near and dear 00:01:28.48\00:01:34.26 to my heart because we're talking with individuals from 00:01:34.29\00:01:39.89 Hartland College. Now Greg and I attended Hartland. This kind 00:01:39.93\00:01:43.53 of starts to date us. We graduated almost 25 years ago 00:01:43.57\00:01:47.34 which is kind of a little long time. But we were blessed by our 00:01:47.37\00:01:51.37 time there. And today we're talking specifically about the 00:01:51.97\00:01:57.08 wellness center there at Hartland College. We're 00:01:57.11\00:02:01.68 talking about the correlation between health and cancer care 00:02:01.72\00:02:04.19 as well as the integration with that and education. The title of 00:02:04.22\00:02:10.76 this program is Transformative Healing, God's Touch on Cancer 00:02:10.79\00:02:17.03 Recovery. So if you need a special touch from God, if you 00:02:17.07\00:02:20.54 are looking for healing in your life or in the lives of people 00:02:20.57\00:02:24.54 that you know and love, if you're a young person looking to 00:02:24.57\00:02:28.24 attend school, this program is for you. I want to introduce you 00:02:28.28\00:02:33.45 to our family around the table. Pastor Norbert Restrepo who is 00:02:33.48\00:02:36.72 the president of Hartland College. And you came after Greg 00:02:36.75\00:02:40.76 and I were there but we've gotten to know and love you and 00:02:40.79\00:02:43.19 your beautiful wife Yvonne over the years and we're so glad you 00:02:43.22\00:02:47.30 both are here today. 00:02:47.33\00:02:48.66 Thank you so much for having us here. It's always a joy to be 00:02:48.70\00:02:51.43 here at 3ABN and there's a special connection as you just 00:02:51.47\00:02:54.70 mentioned because you're an alumni. 00:02:54.74\00:02:56.07 That's right. Absolutely. How long have you been Pastor there 00:02:56.10\00:03:00.21 President of Hartland College? 00:03:00.24\00:03:02.41 Already 13 years. We started our service in 2011. 00:03:02.44\00:03:07.12 Okay. Amen. And Yvonne every time I see you, you look younger 00:03:07.15\00:03:11.52 which is a beautiful thing. (Thank you) 00:03:11.55\00:03:15.09 I'm trying to get your title right. You are Advancement and 00:03:15.12\00:03:17.59 Development Director. So what does that mean? 00:03:17.63\00:03:19.29 It's developing new strategies. We are praying to the Lord that 00:03:19.33\00:03:24.50 our new methods to do God's work So we are seeing within the 00:03:24.53\00:03:29.54 Spirit of Prophecy, connecting with other ministries, learning 00:03:29.57\00:03:31.47 how God leads. So new programs and good news is coming we 00:03:31.51\00:03:35.84 will tell you during the program 00:03:35.88\00:03:37.65 Amen. That's wonderful. Coming around the table here is a new 00:03:37.68\00:03:41.48 face to me and my brother in Christ I just met here just a 00:03:41.52\00:03:45.39 few minutes ago. This is Thomas Mayhew and you are a 00:03:45.42\00:03:49.72 Hartland College graduate so Thomas, we're so glad you're 00:03:49.76\00:03:51.39 here Thank you. It's really great to be here with you. 00:03:51.43\00:03:54.00 And tell me what your major was and where you're from. 00:03:54.03\00:03:56.80 So my major was theology and so I started actually online which 00:03:56.83\00:04:02.27 is interesting. A lot of students don't start that way. 00:04:02.30\00:04:04.17 I started with a few online classes and then transferred 00:04:04.21\00:04:06.37 in. And I'm originally from California and now living in 00:04:06.41\00:04:12.51 Michigan pastoring there. 00:04:12.55\00:04:13.88 Okay, that's wonderful. We're going to hear more of your 00:04:13.92\00:04:15.25 testimony. Coming around the table closest to me here 00:04:15.28\00:04:17.79 Dr. David Emerson who is the Hartland Wellness Center 00:04:17.82\00:04:23.49 physician and we're so glad you're here today as well. 00:04:23.53\00:04:26.29 Always a thrill to come here. Always enjoy it. 00:04:26.33\00:04:30.43 So tell us just a little bit before we get to your 00:04:30.47\00:04:32.87 testimony Pastor let's talk just a little bit. Maybe someone's 00:04:32.90\00:04:36.54 unfamiliar with Hartland College. Give us just an 00:04:36.57\00:04:39.74 overview. What is Hartland College? 00:04:39.77\00:04:41.64 Definitely. I'll start with our mission statement. Hartland 00:04:41.68\00:04:45.71 College mission is to equip professional missionaries to 00:04:45.75\00:04:48.98 transform the world through Christ's selfless love. And the 00:04:49.02\00:04:53.56 emphasis on professional missionaries have a lot. When 00:04:53.59\00:04:57.33 young people go to college they're at a special phase in 00:04:57.36\00:05:00.43 their lives. They're transitioning from the home to being adults and they're 00:05:01.73\00:05:06.10 seeking for an identity. We want them during that phase of their 00:05:06.13\00:05:09.50 lives to find an identity in the calling that we all have as 00:05:09.54\00:05:12.47 Christians, to be missionaries. No matter what career you select 00:05:12.51\00:05:17.05 no matter what God's calling in your life, we are all called 00:05:17.08\00:05:20.98 to the supreme role of winning souls for the kingdom of Christ. 00:05:21.02\00:05:23.65 So that is our purpose at Hartland. And it's a very 00:05:23.69\00:05:27.56 practical education. We use different labs. One of them is 00:05:27.59\00:05:32.29 the Wellness Center. Each one of our students is trained in 00:05:32.33\00:05:35.60 medical missionary work so that they can be more effective as 00:05:35.63\00:05:38.67 we have known in God's word and the Spirit of Prophecy. Jesus 00:05:38.70\00:05:42.10 himself was a medical missionary and so that's the emphasis of 00:05:42.14\00:05:46.68 bringing education with missionary emphasis professional 00:05:46.71\00:05:50.68 education in connection with a life of service practical 00:05:50.71\00:05:54.48 outreach. 00:05:54.52\00:05:55.85 Amen So speaking of the Wellness Center, let's talk just a bit 00:05:55.88\00:06:00.02 about the Wellness Center and the specific focus now on cancer 00:06:00.06\00:06:03.29 care. What led to that focus? I don't know who wants to jump 00:06:03.32\00:06:06.59 into that. 00:06:06.63\00:06:08.00 I'll let Dr. Emerson address that initially. 00:06:08.03\00:06:10.03 Yeah, cancer's actually on the rise and even since 2020 cancers 00:06:10.07\00:06:16.54 have become aggressive. They have a term, turbo cancer now 00:06:16.57\00:06:21.51 where they're more aggressive than they used to be. And so 00:06:21.54\00:06:26.45 we're looking at treating, not treating but supplementing, 00:06:26.48\00:06:30.29 supporting people to strengthen their immune system so they can 00:06:30.32\00:06:32.62 deal with that. We're trying to find an opening wedge so that we 00:06:32.65\00:06:38.89 can share the Three Angels' Message with people but many 00:06:38.93\00:06:41.60 times you have to gain their trust first. And if we deal with 00:06:41.63\00:06:44.50 diseases that they're suffering with we can gain their trust and 00:06:44.53\00:06:49.40 then share more deeper spiritual messages. 00:06:49.44\00:06:53.31 So finding a niche, finding where the pain is where someone 00:06:53.34\00:06:59.58 is struggling and then seeking to meet that and then they're 00:06:59.61\00:07:02.08 more open to the gospel. (Yes) I love that. So before we talk 00:07:02.12\00:07:06.29 more about this cancer care give us a little bit of your 00:07:06.32\00:07:10.26 background and where you've served as a doctor and kind of 00:07:10.29\00:07:13.16 what led you on this journey of discovery. 00:07:13.19\00:07:15.46 Well right after residency the intern was at Kettering Medical 00:07:15.50\00:07:21.57 Center we went out to Guam. We served in a Seventh-day 00:07:21.60\00:07:26.98 Adventist medical clinic there for about eight years and they 00:07:27.01\00:07:30.61 had particular problems with lifestyle. Before World War II 00:07:30.65\00:07:36.15 they had no problems with lifestyle because they were 00:07:36.18\00:07:37.65 on a healthy diet. After World War II they adopted the American 00:07:37.69\00:07:41.09 lifestyle and diabetes and heart disease became rampant. Diabetes 00:07:41.12\00:07:44.19 became the number one problem, heart disease number two problem 00:07:44.23\00:07:46.80 So we set up after hour program like a NEWSTART program where 00:07:46.83\00:07:53.03 they'd come, be trained as to healthy lifestyle and move away 00:07:53.07\00:07:58.81 from the foods that were causing the diseases to begin with. 00:07:58.84\00:08:03.35 Following that we returned to the states set up private 00:08:03.38\00:08:05.85 practice in Ardmore, Oklahoma. 00:08:05.88\00:08:07.22 Now "we" is you and your wife? 00:08:07.25\00:08:08.58 Me and my wife, that's right. 00:08:08.62\00:08:09.98 And she is a doctor or? 00:08:10.02\00:08:11.79 She's a nurse and she does a lot of the health coaching, does a 00:08:11.82\00:08:14.49 lot of our cooking classes. And so we served there on a regular 00:08:14.52\00:08:21.93 medical practice, seeing patients in the hospital and 00:08:21.96\00:08:25.53 also addressing the lifestyle issues. And then we got called 00:08:25.57\00:08:29.50 to a lifestyle center out in Colorado. We served there for 00:08:29.54\00:08:32.61 three years. And there was an emphasis on cancer there because 00:08:32.64\00:08:36.34 that's the type of patient they had attracted in the past. And 00:08:36.38\00:08:42.05 so we were introduced to using lifestyle approaches to cancer 00:08:42.08\00:08:44.99 patients there. And then we came out to Maryland at our family's 00:08:45.02\00:08:52.89 ancestral farm. Ancestors came over from Austria in the 1700s, 00:08:52.93\00:08:58.93 set up a log cabin and then in 1800 they built the log cabin 00:08:58.97\00:09:02.44 that we're in now and then we set up a home office in that 00:09:02.47\00:09:10.25 cabin. Then we were invited by Hartland to come down and work 00:09:10.28\00:09:14.85 with their lifestyle guests and so we go down there for the 00:09:14.88\00:09:18.32 lifestyle programs and see the patients and do the histories 00:09:18.35\00:09:22.09 and physicals and monitor them through the process. And then we 00:09:22.12\00:09:27.90 give lifestyle health talks as well there. 00:09:27.93\00:09:29.26 So how many years has that been in this department. 00:09:29.30\00:09:31.93 Ten years now. So yeah, it's been a joy. We've been thrilled 00:09:31.97\00:09:35.90 to be honored to serve there. 00:09:35.94\00:09:38.01 Amen so I want to ask this at the outset. We're talking about 00:09:38.04\00:09:40.08 transformative healing, God's touch in cancer recovery and you 00:09:40.11\00:09:44.35 were talking about the lifestyle center in Colorado and how they 00:09:44.38\00:09:47.05 focused on cancer and now you're attracting patients at 00:09:47.08\00:09:50.69 Hartland and the Wellness Center there dealing with cancer 00:09:50.72\00:09:53.42 What would you say if someone? says wait a minute, I thought we 00:09:53.46\00:09:57.79 need to follow medicine and how do we integrate and you're 00:09:57.83\00:10:02.70 telling that this natural is going to cure cancer so what 00:10:02.73\00:10:05.03 would you say in regards to that? 00:10:05.07\00:10:06.40 We usually play a supportive role. We get patients from 00:10:06.43\00:10:12.77 different backgrounds, some choose to have chemotherapy and 00:10:12.81\00:10:15.18 we work with them. We do the modalities that can strengthen 00:10:15.21\00:10:17.58 the immune system things that can help turn on their immune 00:10:17.61\00:10:21.08 system so they can fight cancer. We also have patients who opt 00:10:21.12\00:10:24.12 not to get chemotherapy due to side effects and things and we 00:10:24.15\00:10:28.69 do supportive things to here again strengthen the immune system, turn it on, 00:10:28.72\00:10:32.43 to help them. And then we give cancer lectures to show the 00:10:32.46\00:10:38.83 responses to these approaches in the past. Most of the 00:10:38.87\00:10:44.04 modalities we use have been around for some for over 100 00:10:44.07\00:10:47.38 years. And they're not typically focused on currently and so we 00:10:47.41\00:10:53.48 just remind people that hey this has been used in the past and 00:10:53.52\00:10:55.92 these were the responses that they saw in the past. 00:10:55.95\00:11:00.06 So what would some of those modalities be? You talk about 00:11:00.09\00:11:02.72 what you're utilizing. 00:11:02.76\00:11:04.09 Well one of them is bringing the body temperature up. When you 00:11:04.13\00:11:09.10 get an infection your white cells sense that they release 00:11:09.13\00:11:11.33 chemicals that reset your thermostat higher say 102, but 00:11:11.37\00:11:15.60 you're 98.6 and so you feel cold You put on a blanket, you shiver 00:11:15.64\00:11:19.31 you generate heat. That brings your temperature up to 102 and 00:11:19.34\00:11:23.55 you feel comfortable now. At that higher temperature your 00:11:23.58\00:11:26.82 whole immune system's turned on white cells move faster they 00:11:26.85\00:11:29.98 gobble the bacteria faster and if you're. Interferons which 00:11:30.02\00:11:32.65 have anticancer and antiviral activity much higher levels. 00:11:32.69\00:11:35.59 You're whole immune system's turned on and then when you 00:11:35.62\00:11:39.59 clear the infection your thermostat is reset at 98.6. Now 00:11:39.63\00:11:42.36 you feel hot because your temperature's exceeding your 00:11:42.40\00:11:45.10 thermostat, you break out in a sweat, throw your blanket off 00:11:45.13\00:11:48.34 and brings your temperature down And in the old days when kids 00:11:48.37\00:11:51.27 got fevers parents watched for the sweat. When the sweat came 00:11:51.31\00:11:54.48 on they'd say ah the fever's broken, they're going to get 00:11:54.51\00:11:57.21 better. Well with cancers many times the immune system is not 00:11:57.25\00:12:02.38 turned on so we turned it on artificially. We can do this. 00:12:02.42\00:12:06.99 Actually, it was first done in the 1800s actually. Dr. William 00:12:07.02\00:12:12.69 Cohey, he was a physician at the New York hospital currently 00:12:12.73\00:12:17.43 known as Memorial Sloan- Kettering Hospital and he 00:12:17.47\00:12:22.27 treated a patient, a young girl 17 years old who had a sarcoma 00:12:22.30\00:12:26.54 in her hand. She was a girl friend of J.D. Rockefeller's son 00:12:27.58\00:12:29.88 wealthy oil magnate. There was nothing they could do. She had 00:12:29.91\00:12:35.48 it in her hand. They had to amputate the hand. They gave her 00:12:35.52\00:12:37.62 morphine for pain but it had spread and she died. So 17 years 00:12:37.65\00:12:42.72 old, tragic. So he searched the medical records and found... 00:12:42.76\00:12:51.27 looking for patients with sarcoma who had had maybe better 00:12:51.30\00:12:54.47 outcomes. And he found one, a Fred Stein who, six years ago, 00:12:54.50\00:13:01.04 had cancer in his cheek, sarcoma couldn't eat, couldn't swallow 00:13:01.08\00:13:05.28 He was having severe problems with it. They did four surgeries 00:13:05.31\00:13:10.99 It kept coming back. Finally he got a postoperative infection 00:13:11.02\00:13:14.76 streptococcus biogenesis which is a common postoperative 00:13:14.79\00:13:18.06 infection They didn't have antibiotics then. It could be 00:13:18.09\00:13:21.66 lethal. He got severe fever almost died, but after he recovered from the tumor 00:13:21.70\00:13:27.17 shrank and went away and he was discharged. 00:13:27.20\00:13:30.91 I wonder if it was a severe fever that worked with that. 00:13:30.94\00:13:33.78 Exactly. Dr. Cohey thought well maybe it was the fever that 00:13:33.81\00:13:37.11 turned on the immune system that cured it. So he said now this is 00:13:37.15\00:13:40.12 six years ago. Is this guy still alive? So he tracks him down to 00:13:40.15\00:13:44.39 the Lower East Side of New York City. He finds he is still alive 00:13:44.42\00:13:47.56 He examined him, took photos, and found that he's still 00:13:47.59\00:13:53.09 healthy six years after he's been considered terminal. So due 00:13:53.13\00:13:58.57 to that, he found 38 more patients who had sarcomas who'd 00:13:58.60\00:14:02.74 had fevers 12 of them with those fevers got better. So then 00:14:02.77\00:14:07.21 he took 10 patients and treated them all streptococcus injection 00:14:07.24\00:14:14.92 He was giving them the infections and this was 00:14:14.95\00:14:19.65 dangerous at the time. But these were inoperable cancer patients 00:14:19.69\00:14:23.09 they were considered terminal. And four of them got high fevers 00:14:23.12\00:14:27.63 they got better no more issues Four of them had transient and 00:14:27.66\00:14:34.80 lower elevations of temperature and they had temporary 00:14:34.84\00:14:37.71 remissions but two of them died from the infection. So he said 00:14:37.74\00:14:41.44 how can we make this safer? So then he used heat and activated 00:14:41.48\00:14:45.21 Strep biogenesis. He killed the bacteria first. 00:14:45.25\00:14:47.72 So there was no danger of the bacteria, okay. 00:14:47.75\00:14:50.02 That's right. They're not going to reproduce anymore. And then 00:14:50.05\00:14:52.42 he combined it with serious _ and other bacteria which 00:14:52.45\00:14:57.36 made the fevers higher and he was using that to treat cancer 00:14:57.39\00:15:03.90 patients and he was having... Some got better, some didn't 00:15:03.93\00:15:12.34 He eventually died in 1936 but his daughter Helen Cohey Knotts 00:15:12.37\00:15:18.85 took up the work and followed the patients that he'd treated. 00:15:18.88\00:15:22.98 And in 1999 working with a Dr. Stearns, published about oh 00:15:23.02\00:15:31.79 170 cases were treated just with this mixed bacteria vaccine 00:15:31.83\00:15:35.66 where about 65 percent had remissions and five-year 00:15:35.70\00:15:40.57 survival was 44 percent. And these were patients who had 00:15:40.60\00:15:43.47 inoperable cancers. (wow) In 1954 or so Helen Cohey Knotts 00:15:43.51\00:15:52.31 got a grant from JD Rockefeller of $2000 and started the New 00:15:52.35\00:15:57.79 York Cancer Institute where they do research. And now they give 00:15:57.82\00:16:01.49 millions of dollars away in grants to do cancer research 00:16:01.52\00:16:05.39 starting from that. Nineteen sixties the mixed bacteria 00:16:05.43\00:16:10.67 vaccine was determined to be experimental so it's not 00:16:10.70\00:16:15.00 available anymore but we can turn on the immune system again 00:16:15.04\00:16:18.84 with fever baths. Put people in hot water brings their 00:16:18.87\00:16:22.88 temperature up and you can get the same stimulation, the same 00:16:22.91\00:16:26.38 effect. And the reason it's so important in cancer is because 00:16:26.41\00:16:30.62 most of the time in cancers, the cancer does not turn on the 00:16:30.65\00:16:34.42 immune system. We don't get the fever and the chills. The immune 00:16:34.46\00:16:36.26 system doesn't know it's been invaded. Some cancers like 00:16:36.29\00:16:41.53 lymphomas may cause fevers, but most of them don't and so we 00:16:41.56\00:16:44.73 induce the fever artificially and that is something...It's 00:16:44.77\00:16:48.27 very nice because people can actually do this at home and 00:16:48.30\00:16:53.54 that can help strengthen the system and turn it on. 00:16:53.58\00:16:55.84 That's really fascinating because you know when you get 00:16:55.88\00:16:58.25 the regular flu you always get a fever and my parents used to 00:16:58.28\00:17:00.58 always say it's a good thing Jill. And I'd say but I'm 00:17:00.62\00:17:04.09 miserable. But no, this is a good thing because your body is 00:17:04.12\00:17:08.09 fighting. But I had never processed that with cancer you 00:17:08.12\00:17:10.83 don't get that automatic fever or with most of the cancers you 00:17:10.86\00:17:14.80 would not. And so you wouldn't engage the body's natural 00:17:14.83\00:17:18.33 immunity. So what you are saying then that if someone is watching 00:17:18.37\00:17:23.00 and they have cancer all they have to do is have a fever bath 00:17:23.04\00:17:26.44 and it would be cured. Is that what we're saying? 00:17:26.47\00:17:28.51 Not necessarily. Just like with any infection you may not be 00:17:28.54\00:17:32.81 cured. We're basically saying we're trying to increase the 00:17:32.85\00:17:37.95 benefits or the chance of recovery with these modalities. 00:17:37.99\00:17:43.09 And the other thing I should add is that when you're temperature 00:17:43.12\00:17:47.53 is elevated like this your metabolism is racing. It's like 00:17:47.56\00:17:48.90 climbing a mountain and it's exhausting. That's the 00:17:48.93\00:17:51.30 discomfort that comes with fevers. And so people with heart 00:17:51.33\00:17:54.84 disease, people that you wouldn't have exercising to 00:17:54.87\00:17:57.14 begin with you wouldn't want to give the fever treatments 00:17:57.17\00:18:00.14 because it's taxing on the heart But the nice thing about fever 00:18:00.18\00:18:04.18 treatment, just like exercise you can adapt to it. 00:18:04.21\00:18:07.68 You can get stronger with each fever treatment and tolerate 00:18:07.72\00:18:11.02 them better later on. So you want to check with your doctor 00:18:11.05\00:18:13.39 to see if you could tolerate something like that or an 00:18:13.42\00:18:16.62 exercise program. If you can do an exercise program then you can 00:18:16.66\00:18:19.16 handle fever treatments, no problem. 00:18:19.19\00:18:22.46 I love that. So what we're saying here is we're saying that 00:18:22.50\00:18:25.60 God has given us natural things natural benefits, modalities, 00:18:25.63\00:18:31.07 that can be combined. I think the best is, to me the best is 00:18:31.11\00:18:36.81 we combine medicine with God's natural and use a synthesis of 00:18:36.85\00:18:41.02 the two. We would encourage you at home to make sure you contact 00:18:41.05\00:18:44.95 your local doctor and to work in conjunction with those natural 00:18:44.99\00:18:49.59 remedies. And contact Hartland because they use, the 00:18:49.62\00:18:53.43 natural modalities combined with the medical. And see what are 00:18:53.46\00:18:57.17 some of the results and some of the stories that are coming out 00:18:57.20\00:18:59.97 of this. 00:19:00.00\00:19:02.27 Definitely. And that's part of what we do in the educational 00:19:02.30\00:19:05.04 component as well. You know God's original plan when he gave 00:19:05.07\00:19:10.81 us the health message was to enlighten the world with the 00:19:10.85\00:19:14.58 importance of obedience to the health laws. You know, the world 00:19:14.62\00:19:18.45 in darkness the way they ate, they smoked, all their lifestyle 00:19:18.49\00:19:22.66 was in complete transgression of God's natural laws. So that's 00:19:22.69\00:19:28.40 our emphasis in God. As Seventh- day Adventists he has given 00:19:28.43\00:19:30.43 us that wonderful message. But that complements the advancement 00:19:30.47\00:19:35.44 in medical technology that also God has inspired. And when those 00:19:35.47\00:19:40.28 two can be combined then we can see much better results. And as 00:19:40.31\00:19:44.55 we serve people unselfishly then they can see something deeper 00:19:44.58\00:19:50.19 of God's love, God's transformative love, 00:19:50.22\00:19:51.55 and we can bring them to the ultimate Healer, salvation in 00:19:51.59\00:19:55.02 Jesus Christ. 00:19:55.06\00:19:56.69 Amen, so I know we have a video we want to go to showing some 00:19:56.73\00:19:58.86 of the testimonies. Before we do that do you have a monthly 00:19:58.89\00:20:02.50 program or is it a 10-day program or if people at home say 00:20:02.53\00:20:05.57 I want to go to the Hartland Wellness Center and I need this 00:20:05.60\00:20:09.37 for myself and my loved one. What are the programs like? 00:20:09.40\00:20:11.71 Usually once a month. For cancer it's usually 17 days. For other 00:20:11.74\00:20:18.78 lifestyle programs like diabetes hypertension usually lasts about 00:20:18.81\00:20:22.08 11 days. And we introduce them to other modalities. Especially 00:20:22.12\00:20:25.99 cancer, we have intravenous Vitamin C, 00:20:26.02\00:20:28.46 which has been shown in 1978, 00:20:28.49\00:20:31.13 Dr. Paulin extended the life of terminal cancer patients 00:20:31.16\00:20:34.83 from an average of 50 days to over 300 days just by giving 00:20:34.86\00:20:37.90 intravenous vitamin C. We have lectures that explain how it 00:20:37.93\00:20:42.20 works. Also vegetables. They have found that vegetables in 00:20:42.24\00:20:48.08 one study in England 6000 patients they looked at what 00:20:48.11\00:20:53.08 they ate in the previous 24 hours. If they ate seven pieces 00:20:53.11\00:20:56.48 of fruit in a day following for the next years their death rate 00:20:56.52\00:21:02.69 dropped, all-cause death rate dropped about seven percent 00:21:02.72\00:21:06.03 which was not statistically significant. But if they ate 00:21:06.06\00:21:08.16 three or more vegetables for a day or in the previous 24 00:21:08.20\00:21:11.30 hours their risk of dying in the next seven years dropped 00:21:11.33\00:21:14.54 24 percent and that was statistically significant. 00:21:14.57\00:21:17.51 Oh, that's substantial. 00:21:17.54\00:21:18.94 Yeah and so you think is something special about the 00:21:18.97\00:21:24.28 vegetables and you know you think well in the Garden of Eden 00:21:24.31\00:21:27.22 they didn't have vegetables because you have to eat the 00:21:27.25\00:21:29.65 roots, the stems, the plants. You kill the plant to do that. 00:21:29.68\00:21:31.82 But when they were expelled from the garden all of a sudden God 00:21:31.85\00:21:34.66 added vegetables. I thought why did he add vegetables? And I 00:21:34.69\00:21:38.09 thought well you know when they were expelled from the garden 00:21:38.13\00:21:39.46 all of a sudden now they need an immune system to fight bacteria 00:21:39.49\00:21:42.80 and viruses and the study seem to indicate that the vegetables 00:21:42.83\00:21:47.10 are the things that help strengthen the immune system 00:21:47.14\00:21:49.47 and one program has actually used pressed juices for the last 00:21:49.50\00:21:55.38 hundred years... 00:21:55.41\00:21:57.35 What does that mean, pressed juices? 00:21:57.38\00:21:58.71 Pressed juices, well, you want to get the most phytochemicals 00:21:58.75\00:22:00.65 from your vegetables as possible and if I give you 20 pounds of 00:22:00.68\00:22:07.52 vegetables which is what they get the phytochemicals from a 00:22:07.56\00:22:10.96 day. You say here eat these. You say it's too much. But if you 00:22:10.99\00:22:13.96 press the juice with a press juicer, not a masticating, not 00:22:14.00\00:22:16.63 centrifugal juicer but a press juicer you can get the 00:22:16.67\00:22:19.60 phytochemicals from those 20 pounds of vegetables in about 00:22:19.63\00:22:22.77 three liters and this one program you drink one cup every 00:22:22.80\00:22:27.01 hour throughout the day and that gives you the phytochemicals to 00:22:27.04\00:22:30.95 help strengthen your immune system and get the benefits of 00:22:30.98\00:22:33.48 those vegetables which we were given when we were cast out of 00:22:33.52\00:22:38.05 Eden. And so this one program has used those pressed juices 00:22:38.09\00:22:44.19 and looked at stage four malignant melanoma. Standard 00:22:44.23\00:22:49.90 five-year survival mainly medicine was six percent. 00:22:49.93\00:22:52.27 they were getting 39 percent survival with five-year 00:22:52.30\00:22:55.37 survivals. So a dramatic 00:22:55.40\00:22:57.01 increase in a history. And this is something that... 00:22:57.04\00:23:00.24 these are things that you can do whether or not you're getting 00:23:00.28\00:23:04.38 chemotherapy. You can add this to whatever program you're 00:23:04.41\00:23:07.42 choosing to help strengthen the immune system and help you 00:23:07.45\00:23:10.92 fight the cancers. 00:23:10.95\00:23:12.95 Amen for not just the fever treatment. We have the pressed 00:23:12.99\00:23:15.49 juices, the vitamin C infusions and I'm sure many other 00:23:15.52\00:23:19.09 modalities as well. What is the website. Let's put that upright 00:23:19.13\00:23:21.93 now. What's the website if someone wants to go and find out 00:23:21.96\00:23:25.27 more about the Hartland Wellness Center. 00:23:25.30\00:23:26.63 So if they want to find about the Hartland Wellness Center 00:23:26.67\00:23:28.57 we have a Cancer Care specific program that they can turn on 00:23:28.60\00:23:34.51 that website and you will see it on the screen. Hartland.edu 00:23:34.54\00:23:38.51 or you can just go to Hartland.edu and then under 00:23:38.55\00:23:41.68 ministries select Wellness Center. So that's a longer route 00:23:41.72\00:23:45.29 but you will still get there. 00:23:45.32\00:23:46.76 Perfect. So you can go to Hartland.edu and under 00:23:46.79\00:23:49.66 ministries select Wellness Center. What we want to do right 00:23:49.69\00:23:52.49 now is go to that video. These are some testimonies I believe 00:23:52.53\00:23:55.90 of patients who have been through the Hartland Wellness 00:23:55.93\00:23:58.03 Center. 00:23:58.07\00:24:00.50 ¤ ¤ 00:24:00.54\00:24:32.93 My experience here I do not have the words for it but I will tell 00:24:32.97\00:24:37.37 you this. I have made a lot of friends here. There's a lot of 00:24:37.41\00:24:42.61 love here and I think I've learned more in 11 days than I 00:24:42.64\00:24:50.82 did in all my college years. Well his definition of cold is 00:24:50.85\00:24:54.99 ice. 00:24:55.02\00:24:56.62 One thing that I love about this place is that they always pray 00:24:56.69\00:24:59.26 with us before they give us treatment. When you pray for us 00:24:59.29\00:25:03.93 whatever we're going through in our heads, in our hearts, and in 00:25:03.97\00:25:08.20 our spirit we try to let it go and cling on to Jesus. It's so 00:25:08.24\00:25:18.61 important that you guys know how we appreciate it. We so 00:25:18.65\00:25:24.62 appreciate it. These are not tears of sadness, these are 00:25:24.65\00:25:27.82 tears of joy because you don't see this everywhere. 00:25:27.86\00:25:32.66 That's a hard one, I think what I've learned since I've been 00:25:32.69\00:25:39.10 here (pauses cannot go on) We're not on our own, we belong 00:25:39.13\00:26:03.22 to God. I think I learned to depend more. I think I've 00:26:03.26\00:26:20.58 learned of a different way of life, a different style. I've 00:26:20.61\00:26:24.95 always knew the Adventist way but sometimes you get a little 00:26:24.98\00:26:29.58 lost and we become so much a part of the world that we tend 00:26:29.62\00:26:34.92 to lose our way. I needed to be brought back and to be able to 00:26:34.96\00:26:42.06 put me back on the path. 00:26:42.10\00:26:43.57 ¤ ¤ 00:26:43.60\00:27:01.28 Amen. I loved that. I needed to be brought back on the path. 00:27:01.32\00:27:04.52 That's all of us needing that physical healing or restoration 00:27:04.55\00:27:09.39 or whether it's emotional or mental. Sister Yvonne why don't 00:27:09.42\00:27:14.13 you talk to us about that component with the Wellness 00:27:14.16\00:27:16.16 Center. 00:27:16.20\00:27:17.53 It's something that as we see the patients we realized that 00:27:17.57\00:27:21.67 the lifestyle choices are very important but also the mental 00:27:21.70\00:27:26.81 health aspect. We see the patients with a lot of guilt 00:27:26.84\00:27:31.15 unforgiveness, difficult relationships in family circle 00:27:31.18\00:27:36.05 so we need to deal with that because that causes to...that 00:27:36.08\00:27:42.36 takes to disease and that's an important component. We cannot 00:27:42.39\00:27:45.63 take out the approach, a holistic approach. So the mental 00:27:45.66\00:27:49.76 health is very important. And we are working with our patients 00:27:49.80\00:27:51.77 and that is when we blend with the spiritual because there 00:27:51.80\00:27:55.97 cannot be a mental health component without God. 00:27:56.00\00:27:58.74 And that's what we really want to make the connection. So we 00:27:58.77\00:28:02.34 see the souls of people realizing that probably the 00:28:02.38\00:28:07.18 hatred that they haven't taken for years or these other 00:28:07.22\00:28:10.52 feelings have been account for them to be where they are at now 00:28:10.55\00:28:14.62 So that has been a joy. And also, that is where the 00:28:14.66\00:28:19.29 community aspects come in. The healing comes in the community 00:28:19.33\00:28:24.37 because it's in community, in the love of each other and 00:28:24.40\00:28:25.73 praying with each other and talking to each other To see hope in some eyes of 00:28:25.77\00:28:29.97 young people treating them so community meant to happen to 00:28:30.01\00:28:35.38 each one is also a very important component in the 00:28:35.41\00:28:37.78 treatments that we do at Hartland. 00:28:37.81\00:28:39.68 Amen. I love that because healing is holistic, the mind, 00:28:39.71\00:28:43.18 the body, the spirit, the soul connection with the emotional 00:28:43.22\00:28:47.49 mental health and the physical health and then the ultimate 00:28:47.52\00:28:51.89 goal which is spiritual healing. I think of the paralytic. He 00:28:51.93\00:28:55.10 didn't just heal him. He said your sins are forgiven you and 00:28:55.13\00:28:58.97 that encompasses that entire healing. I remember my 00:28:59.00\00:29:02.90 experience at Hartland and the Wellness Center. It was not just 00:29:02.94\00:29:06.44 a place where the patients would come in, but the students had 00:29:06.47\00:29:09.64 the opportunity to interact there as well. So let's talk 00:29:09.68\00:29:13.31 about the integration and the correlation between the Wellness 00:29:13.35\00:29:16.82 Center and the students as well in the college. 00:29:16.85\00:29:20.32 We believe it's very important to have a practical education 00:29:20.36\00:29:24.69 not just theory and for every single major that we offer at 00:29:24.73\00:29:28.03 Hartland there is a practical lab. Even for those who are 00:29:28.06\00:29:31.60 studying for a different major like pastoral evangelism they 00:29:31.63\00:29:34.54 have opportunities to do health outreach. They have 00:29:34.57\00:29:38.04 opportunities to minister at the Wellness Center doing 00:29:38.07\00:29:41.38 devotionals and other activities But as I was saying before 00:29:41.41\00:29:44.15 there's always a practical component through outreach and 00:29:44.18\00:29:47.18 also on campus. And the Wellness Center is one of our biggest 00:29:47.22\00:29:50.69 labs that is very effective because it's medical missionary 00:29:50.72\00:29:55.46 work in action with young people involved as well. 00:29:55.49\00:29:59.63 What are the majors that Heartland offers I know health 00:29:59.66\00:30:03.23 is a component of every major but what are the majors that 00:30:03.26\00:30:04.97 Heartland offers? 00:30:05.00\00:30:06.37 So we currently offer a major in health science ministry, that's 00:30:06.40\00:30:09.70 how we call it. It's a baccalaureate degree but you can 00:30:09.74\00:30:12.04 also, choose to take an associate degree and then move 00:30:12.07\00:30:16.98 on to another college or university that has a more 00:30:17.01\00:30:20.75 specific career that you're looking for. So even though we only offer right now 00:30:20.78\00:30:24.05 four majors which is in theology in health science, in education 00:30:24.09\00:30:28.26 elementary and secondary with emphasis on religion or on 00:30:28.29\00:30:32.29 health science. And we also offer media. Those are our four 00:30:32.33\00:30:35.33 main areas. We also offer a certificate in Midwifery online 00:30:35.36\00:30:40.07 and we will speak more about this soon we'll be offering a 00:30:40.10\00:30:44.94 new major this fall which is Biblical Psychology. Now that's 00:30:44.97\00:30:48.71 a very important area and it's an area of growth and need in 00:30:48.74\00:30:53.11 our current society. Just going back...Young people might say 00:30:53.15\00:30:57.65 well majors that Hartland offers do not draw my attention 00:30:57.69\00:31:01.86 or catch my attention. I'm thinking of something different. 00:31:01.89\00:31:04.19 Well Hartland is still an option because you can go there 00:31:04.23\00:31:07.36 for one year. You can go there for two years and then transfer 00:31:07.40\00:31:11.03 your credits to another college. But you don't want to miss that 00:31:11.07\00:31:14.47 experience of combining missionary work with 00:31:14.50\00:31:17.37 professional training. Furthermore, if you think that's 00:31:17.41\00:31:19.47 too much. You can go just for three months because we offer 00:31:19.51\00:31:24.11 a summer term that is focused on missionary training at a college 00:31:24.15\00:31:27.75 level with experienced pastors and evangelists like Pastor Mark 00:31:27.78\00:31:32.25 Finley, Pastor Scott Griswold, Pastor Paul Conniff given 00:31:32.29\00:31:36.12 Discipleship and given different tools you can just do that and 00:31:36.16\00:31:38.99 you will still benefit greatly. So this is what we're all about. 00:31:39.03\00:31:42.46 It's transforming, healing, evangelism, mission work to 00:31:42.50\00:31:46.17 hasten Christ's second coming. 00:31:46.20\00:31:48.67 Amen. I love those options. So if people are interested in that 00:31:48.70\00:31:52.11 summer training program or any of the majors or going to 00:31:52.14\00:31:55.34 school you can go to Hartland.edu and you can access 00:31:55.38\00:31:58.45 all the information there. So that's Hartland.edu. So Thomas 00:31:58.48\00:32:04.42 let's bring you into this discussion. Before we do 00:32:04.45\00:32:05.79 just a moment. You mentioned the media major and it made me think 00:32:05.82\00:32:07.69 Darius works at 3ABN. He came as an intern from Hartland College 00:32:07.72\00:32:15.16 We were so delighted to have him come as an intern and as he was 00:32:15.20\00:32:19.87 even in his internship decided we wanted to hire him. So we 00:32:19.90\00:32:22.90 did. And he's a hard worker. He's a gifted young man and does 00:32:22.94\00:32:28.41 incredible work. And I think you might know him as well Thomas 00:32:28.44\00:32:30.55 Is that right? 00:32:30.58\00:32:31.91 Yes we both came to Hartland at the same time on campus. So... 00:32:31.95\00:32:35.15 So talk to us about your experience at Hartland. 00:32:35.18\00:32:40.09 Yeah, you know Hartland is... I wanted to touch on something 00:32:40.12\00:32:44.66 Mr. Restrepo said. Hartland is a place where if you understand 00:32:44.69\00:32:48.66 why you're there, you're not just there to get a degree. 00:32:48.70\00:32:51.67 You're not just there for school. You're there for an 00:32:51.70\00:32:53.94 education and there's a big difference between school and 00:32:53.97\00:32:56.81 education in many places, school is just seen as you know go get 00:32:56.84\00:33:00.74 your degree and move on with life. Hartland seeks to combine 00:33:00.78\00:33:04.78 all these other aspects that we talked about and basically give 00:33:04.81\00:33:08.98 you a holistic experience. So that you're not just going in 00:33:09.02\00:33:12.45 with just head knowledge or theoretical knowledge but you've 00:33:12.49\00:33:17.33 also gained some practical knowledge and you've become a 00:33:17.36\00:33:19.49 well-rounded and well-balanced individual. So maybe plugging 00:33:19.53\00:33:23.40 that into medical missionary work a little bit in the 00:33:23.43\00:33:26.13 lifestyle center. I am a theology, or I was a theology 00:33:26.17\00:33:28.67 major and so going to Hartland I was thinking all right let's 00:33:28.70\00:33:33.98 go for the Bible classes, let's learn how to be a pastor. That's 00:33:34.01\00:33:36.85 what I was really excited about. and I knew I was called to that 00:33:36.88\00:33:40.82 ministry. So I wasn't thinking that I was going to be getting 00:33:40.85\00:33:44.82 health outreach, health classes things like that. 00:33:44.85\00:33:48.99 Did it bother you when they said oh you're going to be in some 00:33:49.02\00:33:51.73 health classes. Were you like afraid of it or like I don't 00:33:51.76\00:33:53.83 want to do that or how did you feel? 00:33:53.86\00:33:55.26 I was afraid a little bit because...I mean we all say 00:33:55.30\00:33:59.27 these things you know, like I'll never be this or I'll never do 00:33:59.30\00:34:02.54 that. I knew I would never be a doctor. I mean I don't think 00:34:02.57\00:34:07.98 that's my calling but I didn't really feel comfortable with 00:34:08.01\00:34:12.88 anything in the medical field. It just...(Intimidating) Yeah, 00:34:12.91\00:34:17.25 Yeah intimidating is a good word but you know you feel scared to 00:34:17.29\00:34:21.56 like work on people and like do treatments and stuff like that. 00:34:21.59\00:34:23.76 I don't want to mess that up. You know I really respect 00:34:23.79\00:34:26.59 doctors like Dr. Emerson you know. So then when I saw we were 00:34:26.63\00:34:29.43 going to be doing health out reach and health classes I was 00:34:29.46\00:34:33.57 like okay that'll be interesting So at first, it was more 00:34:33.60\00:34:37.04 the...my initial attitude was we're going to do this because I 00:34:37.07\00:34:40.94 need to and that's how I graduate you know. But especially this past year 00:34:40.98\00:34:45.68 the Lord started bringing to my mind the importance of medical 00:34:45.71\00:34:48.75 missionary work and I was reading some statements in the 00:34:48.78\00:34:51.62 Spirit of Prophecy that talk about really that medical 00:34:51.65\00:34:54.72 missionary work is an all inclusive work for God's people 00:34:54.76\00:34:57.03 and that we are all called to be medical missionaries in some way 00:34:57.06\00:35:00.70 I was trying to think what that must mean you know for me and I 00:35:00.73\00:35:05.03 realized that hey this also obviously applies to me and 00:35:05.07\00:35:09.00 as a pastor then I have to think about how that translates to the 00:35:09.04\00:35:14.11 ministry I do. How does that translate to getting members on 00:35:14.14\00:35:17.98 fire for the Lord and doing evangelism, things like that. 00:35:18.01\00:35:20.62 So when I started taking part in things like the health expo 00:35:20.65\00:35:26.12 that we did for health outreach and some of the other health 00:35:26.15\00:35:31.76 classes as well. I actually saw the opportunities that I would 00:35:31.79\00:35:35.20 have and I would mingle with people in the community who 00:35:35.23\00:35:37.70 weren't Adventist or maybe not even Christian. I saw the 00:35:37.73\00:35:40.87 opportunities I had to minister to them and to give them an 00:35:40.90\00:35:43.71 opportunity to see not just God's way of healing, physical 00:35:43.74\00:35:47.44 healing but God's way of spiritual and mental healing as 00:35:47.48\00:35:50.08 well and that all of these things combined we can really 00:35:50.11\00:35:52.68 do exactly what Jesus did. You mentioned the paralytic that was 00:35:52.71\00:35:57.02 lowered through the roof, right? When Jesus healed him he healed 00:35:57.05\00:36:01.06 him in every way. Jesus doesn't do a half job. He does a full 00:36:01.09\00:36:04.16 job. He does a holistic transformation and so that's 00:36:04.19\00:36:09.53 when I started realizing that okay as a pastor I need to think 00:36:09.56\00:36:13.64 about the importance of also as a shepherd of God's flock how do 00:36:13.67\00:36:19.04 I also help to provide through the Holy Spirit, through God's 00:36:19.07\00:36:23.18 help that holistic healing. So I'm very grateful for the 00:36:23.21\00:36:26.35 experience that we got at Hartland because it's helped me 00:36:26.38\00:36:28.75 to not only have that holistic experience where I'm getting 00:36:28.78\00:36:33.32 theology and some other things but also to realize that this is 00:36:33.36\00:36:37.46 good, this is Biblical, this is right and this is how we should 00:36:37.49\00:36:41.50 do ministry. 00:36:41.53\00:36:43.16 Amen. So looking forward...that was your experience at Hartland 00:36:43.20\00:36:44.90 With that looking forward to your vision as you step in as a 00:36:44.93\00:36:48.90 brand new pastor there in the Michigan Conference how do you 00:36:48.94\00:36:52.01 plan to combine the medical ministry aspect with the 00:36:52.04\00:36:54.34 evangelism in your work? 00:36:54.38\00:36:55.71 That's a good question. What's actually really nice is in one 00:36:55.74\00:36:59.95 of the classes I'm taking I have the opportunity to think about 00:36:59.98\00:37:04.09 that and to...you know it's more open-ended. We're able to choose 00:37:04.12\00:37:08.22 different ministry projects. It's kind of the idea of 00:37:08.26\00:37:10.93 learning how to run and plan a ministry. And so I started 00:37:10.96\00:37:14.86 thinking you know a good project to think about would be to think 00:37:14.90\00:37:20.97 about a health ministry that could be connected to a church 00:37:21.00\00:37:23.27 or church district. And so I haven't had the opportunity to 00:37:23.30\00:37:26.91 implement anything specific yet but I am thinking about the 00:37:26.94\00:37:30.68 potential of using like small groups, a small group method 00:37:30.71\00:37:35.08 that you see in Acts chapter 2 and Acts chapters 3 and 4 as 00:37:35.12\00:37:37.82 well where you see that the early apostolic church that 00:37:37.85\00:37:42.99 God's people were meeting together and they were actually 00:37:43.02\00:37:44.59 having these small groups and this is how the work was growing 00:37:44.63\00:37:46.90 Yes there was preaching, yes there were all these other 00:37:46.93\00:37:48.86 things but this was really what caused God's message of Jesus 00:37:48.90\00:37:54.90 the Savior who had come and died for us. This was what caused it 00:37:54.94\00:37:59.34 to spread and to gain traction and so I started realizing wait 00:37:59.37\00:38:02.58 we can still utilize this small group method and actually use 00:38:02.61\00:38:06.18 health ministry as part of that. Invite someone over for a meal 00:38:06.21\00:38:09.05 you know, teach them how to cook healthy meals. Do an exercise 00:38:09.08\00:38:13.29 round with them, 15 minutes, 20 minutes you know and then 00:38:13.32\00:38:16.19 you have multiple small groups then you can start to introduce 00:38:16.22\00:38:19.39 them to the gospel as well. So that's kind of what I'm thinking 00:38:19.43\00:38:22.06 in a nutshell but we'll see where the Lord leads with that. 00:38:22.10\00:38:26.47 Well I'm excited just to see how God is working in your life and 00:38:26.50\00:38:29.90 to see how you're utilizing that health with the gospel and know 00:38:29.94\00:38:34.34 that the 3ABN family will be praying for you as you launch 00:38:34.38\00:38:38.05 into ministry there in Michigan. God will just bless and anoint 00:38:38.08\00:38:40.35 you there. I know we have a video. I don't pastor if this is 00:38:40.38\00:38:44.52 a good time to go to that video. This is testimony or... 00:38:44.55\00:38:47.39 Sure, sure, and as a prelude to that video I want to mention 00:38:47.42\00:38:50.89 that one of the things that really impacts our health guests 00:38:51.26\00:38:54.03 is seeing young people ministering to them. Now the 00:38:54.06\00:38:58.20 expectation is that young people are out there just focused on 00:38:58.23\00:39:01.70 whatever they want to do, whatever makes them happy. But to see young people 00:39:01.74\00:39:05.14 who are happily serving them has an impactful experience for our 00:39:05.17\00:39:10.75 health guests and in this video you're going to watch some of 00:39:10.78\00:39:13.62 the testimonies of young people including our graduate Thomas 00:39:13.65\00:39:17.29 Mayhew as he had the opportunity to minister in the area. 00:39:17.32\00:39:21.02 Amen. Let's go to that right now 00:39:21.06\00:39:22.86 ¤ ¤ 00:39:22.89\00:39:30.33 Studying pastoral ministry is unique in that pastoral ministry 00:39:30.37\00:39:35.27 is a special calling and many parts of it are very daunting 00:39:35.30\00:39:39.81 when you think about the expectation that church members 00:39:39.84\00:39:43.51 place on the pastor and you realize that as a young person 00:39:43.55\00:39:47.88 you're just not ready. 00:39:47.92\00:39:49.25 ¤ ¤ 00:39:49.28\00:39:53.66 Through this time studying for the ministry in college 00:39:53.69\00:39:56.96 it's not just been so much about gaining Bible knowledge or you 00:39:56.99\00:40:00.73 know getting good grades or things like this, those things 00:40:00.76\00:40:03.43 are important of course. But it's also been about gaining 00:40:03.47\00:40:08.40 life experience and also realizing that I need a lot of 00:40:08.44\00:40:11.87 the Lord in my life in terms of my character, just my growth in 00:40:11.91\00:40:14.74 Him. So one of the unique things I've had the opportunity to do 00:40:14.78\00:40:18.48 as part of my college experience is actually reach out to people 00:40:18.51\00:40:23.18 in the community and that's something that doesn't happen 00:40:23.22\00:40:27.49 in a lot of places. You just kind of go and do your classes 00:40:27.52\00:40:32.06 But my experience has been different. I've had a lot of 00:40:32.09\00:40:34.20 opportunities to connect with the community in many ways. 00:40:34.23\00:40:38.20 One of those ways has been through health outreach and that 00:40:38.23\00:40:43.84 has been a blessing because it has allowed me to connect with 00:40:43.87\00:40:47.21 people many of which I've not been Adventist, many of which 00:40:47.24\00:40:51.55 are just simply there to learn more about how to have good 00:40:51.58\00:40:54.25 health. I realize that through this experience that it's not 00:40:54.28\00:40:58.09 about necessarily which are called to full-time. 00:40:58.12\00:41:01.19 To this day I don't think being a 00:41:04.56\00:41:05.89 medical missionary is a talent of mine. It's not a been natural 00:41:05.93\00:41:09.76 to me, but you realize that this gives you an opportunity to 00:41:09.80\00:41:13.40 broaden your windows of opportunity to minister 00:41:13.44\00:41:15.20 to people. 00:41:15.24\00:41:16.57 ¤ ¤ 00:41:16.60\00:41:24.38 Being here has been a tremendous experience for me. It's a place 00:41:24.41\00:41:28.18 where to come in 00:41:28.22\00:41:29.55 contact with people with different elements, people from 00:41:29.58\00:41:33.36 different walks of life and people who have gone through 00:41:33.39\00:41:36.02 different things. 00:41:36.06\00:41:37.39 And there you have a special opportunity of eating 00:41:37.43\00:41:40.16 with them, being with them in the treatment rooms. And to be 00:41:40.20\00:41:43.57 able to inspire them and to share the love of Jesus with 00:41:43.60\00:41:47.14 them. 00:41:47.17\00:41:49.84 ¤ ¤ 00:41:49.87\00:41:52.24 So many times when guests come they have different fears, 00:41:52.27\00:41:58.15 different expectations. They don't know what to do and they 00:41:58.18\00:41:59.81 don't know what they're going to be facing. They're just coming 00:41:59.85\00:42:03.49 here amongst us strange people And just building a relationship 00:42:03.52\00:42:07.12 with them in the short period of time is what God really helps 00:42:07.16\00:42:11.43 us and the rest of the team to do and we just get to bond 00:42:11.46\00:42:14.53 with them because we get to eat with them, 00:42:14.56\00:42:16.70 we get to listen to their stories. 00:42:16.77\00:42:18.63 In the treatment room we sit down 00:42:18.67\00:42:20.50 we're not talking about our problems. 00:42:20.54\00:42:22.14 We're sitting down asking them, Tell me your story. 00:42:22.17\00:42:24.34 Where are you coming from and who are you? And so we get a 00:42:24.37\00:42:27.61 chance to listen to who they are to their families, through their 00:42:27.64\00:42:31.11 struggles. And at every treatment, at every breakfast, 00:42:31.15\00:42:34.95 at every opportunity we get we are praying for them and even 00:42:34.98\00:42:38.99 in our personal spaces, we are pleading for God to intervene 00:42:39.02\00:42:42.56 in their lives. 00:42:42.59\00:42:45.19 For 30 years I have just allowed myself to be larger and it's not 00:42:45.23\00:42:51.47 good for my health, you know, and I didn't think of that part 00:42:51.50\00:42:53.44 It was more mental for me. And I could cry right now because we 00:42:53.47\00:43:00.48 take life so for granted. People don't realize that something as 00:43:00.51\00:43:07.92 simple as eating it can be wrong too. I had shooting pains going 00:43:07.95\00:43:12.65 through my heart as well prior to coming here and I don't have 00:43:12.69\00:43:16.42 any of that right now. And I've only lost 10 pounds but I know 00:43:16.46\00:43:19.19 I'm going in the right direction 00:43:19.23\00:43:20.73 ¤ ¤ 00:43:20.76\00:43:32.74 During devotions, we prayed together and we sing together 00:43:32.77\00:43:34.54 and that has been an inspiration to many people. And in the 00:43:34.58\00:43:38.01 farewell they explained how they have been inspired, that they 00:43:38.05\00:43:40.98 have seen Jesus in me and for me that's the best part of what 00:43:41.02\00:43:43.99 we have learned. 00:43:44.02\00:43:46.22 Serving God is a dynamic. You know it's not supposed to be a 00:43:46.25\00:43:51.09 stale, bland, boxed-in type of experience. No, it's vibrant 00:43:51.13\00:43:56.26 it's free, it's ever-moving. God wants us to explore all sorts of 00:43:56.30\00:44:01.20 different avenues. And I've found that Health Outreach did 00:44:01.24\00:44:05.44 help me to do just that. 00:44:05.47\00:44:07.71 ¤ ¤ 00:44:07.74\00:44:12.65 Amen, praise the Lord for what he's doing at the Hartland 00:44:12.68\00:44:17.49 Wellness Center and that integration, correlation with 00:44:17.52\00:44:20.46 the students working with the guests who come through. And 00:44:20.49\00:44:24.46 seeing God work. Speaking of stories and testimonies, Dr. 00:44:24.49\00:44:28.36 Emerson is there a quick story you could share with us about 00:44:28.40\00:44:30.43 someone who's been through the program? 00:44:30.47\00:44:31.83 Sure. We have new patients come through. Some people respond, 00:44:31.87\00:44:35.60 some people don't physically. They all respond spiritually 00:44:35.64\00:44:38.44 in general. One lady came. She had a 7 cm. mass in her left 00:44:38.47\00:44:42.98 breast, invasive lobular carcinoma by biopsy. She went 00:44:43.01\00:44:50.12 through the program. She was going to have a lumpectomy and 00:44:50.15\00:44:52.85 radiation. I encouraged her to follow through with it. But she 00:44:52.89\00:44:56.56 kept postponing her surgeries, postponing and postponing. And 00:44:56.59\00:45:00.23 when she stayed on the program and a few months later she had 00:45:00.26\00:45:06.57 a mammogram and it showed it had shrunk from 7 cm down to 1.7 cm 00:45:06.60\00:45:11.27 (oh wow). Another three months it had gone to half a centimeter 00:45:11.31\00:45:15.34 so she was one that did respond. And the other nice thing about 00:45:15.38\00:45:20.92 it is whether they respond or not we do have Bible studies 00:45:20.95\00:45:24.92 with them. We have devotionals and they're all shared means to 00:45:24.95\00:45:31.79 come to a closer walk with Jesus And we always pray that Jesus 00:45:31.83\00:45:36.30 can take them by the hand and walk them through this life and 00:45:36.33\00:45:39.50 into his kingdom when he comes to take us home in glory. 00:45:39.53\00:45:41.64 Amen. That's an incredible testimony. I know Pastor Mark 00:45:41.67\00:45:46.01 Finley, you referenced him earlier, I know he always said 00:45:46.04\00:45:47.94 God always heals, sometimes in this life and sometimes at the 00:45:47.98\00:45:52.21 resurrection so we don't always know what takes place but 00:45:52.25\00:45:55.95 there's many natural modalities that can be utilized to enhance 00:45:55.98\00:45:59.59 our health now so praise the Lord. Speaking of this complete 00:45:59.62\00:46:03.79 and total health, the mind, body, soul connection. Yvonne 00:46:03.83\00:46:08.03 talk to us about the Biblical psychology program that's coming 00:46:08.06\00:46:10.63 and that mental health. 00:46:10.67\00:46:12.00 Yeah, that's very, very exciting And everything originated in 00:46:12.03\00:46:17.31 Ukraine so Hartland was invited to go to Ukraine and the Union 00:46:17.34\00:46:22.48 of Ukraine gathered 59 people, 22 psychologists and the rest of 00:46:22.51\00:46:27.18 church leaders there because they have a crisis at this 00:46:27.22\00:46:32.12 moment. People are coming to the church. So they needed spiritual 00:46:32.15\00:46:36.22 help but they come with a lot of mental health issues. Trauma, 00:46:36.26\00:46:39.19 secondary trauma, depression, anxiety and so on. So they said 00:46:39.23\00:46:43.83 how can we combine both the Biblical and mental health 00:46:43.87\00:46:47.14 aspect with 00:46:47.17\00:46:48.50 evangelism. So we were there. We were praying. It was an attempt. 00:46:48.54\00:46:55.04 We don't have experience with war but Biblical principles 00:46:55.08\00:46:57.08 apply to any situation. So for about one there it was an 00:46:57.11\00:47:01.85 amazing training. But it was in Ukraine that we saw. It works to 00:47:01.88\00:47:06.72 combine actually Biblical because the healing comes from 00:47:06.76\00:47:10.36 God and God was taken out of the psychology long ago. Right? So 00:47:10.39\00:47:14.76 we said when we combine both it works. Psychologists taking the 00:47:14.80\00:47:20.24 training said we do not know how to apply the actual principles 00:47:20.27\00:47:25.34 of healing in the Bible when we sit down to talk to someone in 00:47:25.37\00:47:29.04 regards to trauma, secondary trauma, anxiety, and depression. 00:47:29.08\00:47:31.35 So when we saw in Ukraine that it worked and they made it work 00:47:31.38\00:47:36.42 because they make a practice. After a year we had been 00:47:36.45\00:47:39.75 tracing them to see the responses. We said we need to do 00:47:39.79\00:47:43.83 this, because it works. So it's bringing the 00:47:43.86\00:47:48.00 principles of the Bible in regards to healing the mind and 00:47:48.03\00:47:52.03 helping the person regardless the religion to come in the 00:47:52.07\00:47:53.80 presence of God for healing. Of course, it's a professional 00:47:53.84\00:47:57.24 training that we will give all the basics of psychology but in 00:47:57.27\00:48:01.41 the aspect of treatment we bring in the spiritual aspect of it 00:48:01.44\00:48:05.75 and we're excited because the same commission that Jesus gave 00:48:05.78\00:48:09.98 of preaching, teaching and healing this can be applied in 00:48:10.02\00:48:14.52 the mental health field. 00:48:14.56\00:48:15.89 Oh Amen. So what was that like for you going to Ukraine. 00:48:15.92\00:48:18.36 There's a lot of trauma that's taken place as a result of war 00:48:18.39\00:48:21.96 there. What was that like for you ministering to the people 00:48:22.00\00:48:24.33 there? 00:48:24.40\00:48:25.73 Oh the stories Jill, were amazing. The story that when the 00:48:25.77\00:48:28.97 workers said what can I answer to this thing horrifying stories 00:48:29.00\00:48:33.61 Horrifying, but there was always an answer. And the beautiful 00:48:33.64\00:48:39.41 thing about the training in Ukraine is to see that the team 00:48:39.45\00:48:43.08 that came, they needed to go through their own trauma, their 00:48:43.12\00:48:46.69 own depression, especially hopelessness and frustration to 00:48:46.72\00:48:50.43 evil, a hundred percent. So when they experience the peace and 00:48:50.46\00:48:55.63 hope then we can see if it can give peace and hope 00:48:55.66\00:48:57.37 and we can do it from the mental health, 00:48:57.40\00:49:00.27 the spiritual component, as the physical 00:49:00.30\00:49:03.14 part so it was a blending of love and we have the conviction 00:49:03.17\00:49:06.17 we need to do this at Hartland as a major. 00:49:06.21\00:49:09.54 Amen. I love that. It's so needed today because God has 00:49:09.58\00:49:17.29 principles and make sure they're Biblical and apply it with the 00:49:17.32\00:49:20.12 word and God. What an incredible idea. I love that. So that's 00:49:20.16\00:49:24.89 launching this fall as a major. 00:49:24.93\00:49:27.86 Yeah, it's launching this fall and it's just amazing because 00:49:27.90\00:49:31.00 the mental health is...you know you have physical, spiritual and 00:49:31.03\00:49:36.91 mental and the mind is the connecting link between 00:49:36.94\00:49:40.08 spirituality and physical health And often it's left out of the 00:49:40.11\00:49:42.91 picture. We can understand the science of how our brain works 00:49:42.94\00:49:47.72 and then connect it with the Biblical principles that God has 00:49:47.75\00:49:51.15 given to us ultimately we were created by God. We were created 00:49:51.19\00:49:53.89 in his image so bringing all these things together are just 00:49:53.92\00:49:58.29 so powerful and wonderful. In fact, we have a situation now 00:49:58.33\00:50:02.30 that we have several majors at Hartland wants to switch now 00:50:02.33\00:50:05.70 to the Biblical Psychology and we're kind of encouraging them 00:50:05.73\00:50:08.84 you can do a minor but finish the major that God called you to 00:50:08.87\00:50:12.04 do. But, yeah, it's just an amazing opportunity that we're 00:50:12.07\00:50:14.48 so thrilled that we can offer it We've put the curriculum 00:50:14.51\00:50:18.28 together. You go to our website and you will be able to see the 00:50:18.31\00:50:21.72 program there and it's just going to enhance the tools that 00:50:21.75\00:50:26.19 we're equipping young people to be able to serve God in these 00:50:26.22\00:50:28.79 final days of being professional missionaries. 00:50:28.82\00:50:32.89 Amen. So we have just a couple seconds left here and then we're 00:50:32.93\00:50:36.30 going to go to the address for Hartland. But what would be some 00:50:36.33\00:50:38.40 of your greatest needs right now in just a few seconds. 00:50:38.43\00:50:41.04 One of our greatest needs is for scholarships for young people 00:50:41.07\00:50:46.98 who want to go to study at Hartland but they don't have all 00:50:47.01\00:50:48.58 the resources. And another great need is for people who want to 00:50:48.61\00:50:52.81 be part of the team. You can visit our website and see the 00:50:52.85\00:50:56.48 opportunities open there. We're looking for professional people 00:50:56.52\00:50:58.95 who are mission-minded and who love souls. 00:50:58.99\00:51:01.62 Amen. Okay, Absolutely. And we believe in the mission of 00:51:01.66\00:51:05.36 Hartland College. We believe in what God is doing in and through 00:51:05.39\00:51:08.33 the young people and the guests who come to the lifestyle center 00:51:08.36\00:51:12.07 as well as the staff there.
