Yes. 00:02:15.50\00:02:19.13 This is beautiful music and its going to be played on a harp 00:02:19.17\00:02:22.27 and it's Laura Paimiori. 00:02:22.30\00:02:24.31 Thank you Laura that was beautiful. 00:04:15.38\00:04:17.29 Yes, "Be Though My Vision" and He is. 00:04:17.32\00:04:19.55 If you are joining us just a moment late, 00:04:19.59\00:04:21.42 we have Gary and Robin Kent with us today from Australia 00:04:21.46\00:04:25.66 and they have a ministry called The Incredible Journey. 00:04:25.69\00:04:30.03 Any time you have a title like that for a ministry 00:04:30.07\00:04:34.34 you know God has done something already in their lives so 00:04:34.37\00:04:38.34 let's just kind of get to know you. 00:04:38.37\00:04:40.38 Gary, we'll start with you, did you grow up in a 00:04:40.41\00:04:43.55 Christian home? 00:04:43.58\00:04:44.91 I did, I grew up in a missionary home, 00:04:44.95\00:04:47.65 my parents were missionaries for 13 years so we are 00:04:47.68\00:04:53.56 immersed in a desire to share the Good News 00:04:53.59\00:04:58.53 so, yes, that's my heritage, my journey, missionary home. 00:04:58.56\00:05:03.50 When did it become more than just a heritage, when did 00:05:03.53\00:05:08.20 that personal relationship with the Lord actually begin? 00:05:08.24\00:05:12.71 Thirteen years in Africa, after that I returned, 00:05:12.74\00:05:17.68 my family returned to Australia and we went, my sister and I 00:05:17.71\00:05:21.02 went to Avondale College and it was a time of adjustment, 00:05:21.05\00:05:26.19 learning, I wanted to be involved in sharing the gospel 00:05:26.22\00:05:30.09 I did teaching, I did Theology, Seminary work, 00:05:30.13\00:05:33.60 but I still had doubts in my mind and so after two years 00:05:33.63\00:05:38.87 at seminary at college, I decided to take a break. 00:05:38.90\00:05:42.97 Then I traveled the world, particularly Asia 00:05:43.00\00:05:46.17 and was investigating Eastern Religions wanting to be certain 00:05:46.21\00:05:51.11 that I was following truth. Went to Tibet, 00:05:51.15\00:05:55.48 went to the Hindu Shrines of India wanting to make sure 00:05:55.52\00:06:01.59 so it was that experience that confirmed in my own 00:06:01.62\00:06:07.63 experience, my mind that Jesus is the Messiah and He became 00:06:07.66\00:06:13.87 King of my life and it's never been the same. 00:06:13.90\00:06:16.91 I am so grateful to Jesus and all that He's done for me 00:06:16.94\00:06:21.48 and I want to share that Good News with as many people 00:06:21.51\00:06:24.05 as I can. Amen and Amen! 00:06:24.08\00:06:26.45 That's a beautiful story and Robin, how about you? 00:06:26.48\00:06:30.39 Yes, Shelley, I was also born into a missionary home 00:06:30.42\00:06:35.19 my parents left Australia by boat back then 00:06:35.22\00:06:38.49 and traveled to India and then they caught the train 00:06:38.53\00:06:41.83 up into the very northern part of India in the foothills 00:06:41.86\00:06:44.93 of the Himalayas where it borders Tibet, Nepal, 00:06:44.97\00:06:49.04 and Bhutan and they ran a Christian Clinic there for 00:06:49.07\00:06:56.18 years. In fact, I was born there. Really, how interesting. 00:06:56.21\00:06:59.85 So, it's rather unusual for two missionary kids 00:06:59.88\00:07:04.82 to be married to one another, you both grew up in I'm assuming 00:07:04.85\00:07:09.62 a Seventh-day-Adventist Christian homes. 00:07:09.66\00:07:11.89 How did you meet? 00:07:11.93\00:07:13.26 We met at Avondale, I came back from Africa 00:07:13.29\00:07:17.10 Robin had been studying back in Australia 00:07:17.13\00:07:20.94 and we both went there to learn to serve the Lord better. 00:07:20.97\00:07:25.97 So Avondale is a Seventh-day- Adventist University 00:07:26.01\00:07:30.08 in Australia. 00:07:30.11\00:07:31.51 Alright, you are the Speaker/ Director for the 00:07:31.55\00:07:35.85 Incredible Journey, you are the Producer. 00:07:35.88\00:07:38.89 Let's talk about what your roles are, what you are doing... 00:07:38.92\00:07:44.13 Tell us a little about your ministry and your 00:07:44.16\00:07:46.46 day-to-day life? 00:07:46.49\00:07:47.83 Well, we work together on producing television programs 00:07:47.86\00:07:52.87 that are designed to reach a secular audience. 00:07:52.90\00:07:56.77 I love it. Our country, Australia and it's a reflection 00:07:56.81\00:08:02.11 what is happening in the Western world is fast losing 00:08:02.14\00:08:05.91 its Christianity, its Christian heritage. 00:08:05.95\00:08:08.32 In the last...just to give you an idea what's happening 00:08:08.35\00:08:11.82 down under, in the last 10, 15 years the percentage of 00:08:11.85\00:08:16.96 Christians living in Australia or practicing in Australia 00:08:16.99\00:08:21.13 has reduced 20% from 60% down to below 40%. 00:08:21.16\00:08:28.87 So, if this trend continues within the next 20 years 00:08:28.90\00:08:33.94 there will be hardly any Christians left in Australia. 00:08:33.98\00:08:37.48 And so Robin and I feel a burden coming from 00:08:37.51\00:08:40.92 Christian homes, missionary homes I mentioned that we are 00:08:40.95\00:08:45.52 MK's, missionary kids, we're also PK's Pastor's kids. 00:08:45.55\00:08:50.09 And so we've carried on our family heritage, a desire 00:08:50.13\00:08:56.26 to want to share the good news of Jesus and in particular 00:08:56.30\00:08:59.67 we want to reach the secular audience, the fast-growing 00:08:59.70\00:09:04.31 secular audience in our country. The percentage of people 00:09:04.34\00:09:08.18 who no longer identify as Christians, 00:09:08.21\00:09:11.05 no longer recognize Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. 00:09:11.08\00:09:14.82 So that's what we do, we produce television programs 00:09:14.85\00:09:18.99 specifically designed to reach people who would normally 00:09:19.02\00:09:23.53 never attend a church service or listen to a church sermon 00:09:23.56\00:09:27.26 we've got to reach those people. 00:09:27.30\00:09:29.10 There are more and more of them around, 00:09:29.13\00:09:30.67 not just increasing in Australia but throughout Europe 00:09:30.70\00:09:34.77 and I believe it's happening right here in America as well. 00:09:34.80\00:09:37.67 No doubt. No Doubt. 00:09:37.71\00:09:39.04 Tell us what you studied in Avondale, 00:09:39.07\00:09:42.14 you had several degrees, it's interesting? 00:09:42.18\00:09:44.68 Well, I've studied teaching, also, this is my 00:09:44.71\00:09:49.05 primary focus is Theology, the Bible. 00:09:49.08\00:09:52.65 I've had a particular interest in the field of Archeology 00:09:52.69\00:09:56.69 particularly Biblical Archeology and so after completing 00:09:56.73\00:10:02.53 my Bachelor of Arts in Theology I then studied further 00:10:02.56\00:10:06.84 and traveled to America here and then to the Middle East, 00:10:06.87\00:10:09.94 Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and studied Biblical Archeology 00:10:09.97\00:10:14.84 where the Bible happened. 00:10:14.88\00:10:16.34 Where all those stories came from and I'm particularly 00:10:16.38\00:10:19.71 interested in the evidence that demonstrates that the 00:10:19.75\00:10:24.75 Bible is trustworthy. 00:10:24.79\00:10:26.12 And that Jesus is more than just a fairy tale. 00:10:26.15\00:10:31.36 Correct, correct. You know it's interesting when we 00:10:31.39\00:10:34.70 talk about secular, I would say...United States is also 00:10:34.73\00:10:39.20 becoming more secular but in Australia there are people 00:10:39.23\00:10:43.64 who do think of Jesus as... They put Him in the same 00:10:43.67\00:10:47.91 category as Santa Clause, I mean they really have no 00:10:47.94\00:10:53.21 understanding of Him. 00:10:53.25\00:10:54.98 So you do like docu-dramas... Do you write the scripts 00:10:55.02\00:10:58.89 I assume, Gary? Robin and I write the scripts, we also have 00:10:58.92\00:11:02.16 some assistants, some fellow writers that work with us 00:11:02.19\00:11:06.43 on producing the scripts because we try to do at least 00:11:06.46\00:11:10.57 50 new programs every year. 00:11:10.60\00:11:13.57 Wow. And so, and that's just part of our responsibility 00:11:13.60\00:11:17.01 These are 1/2 hour television docu-dramas, yes. 00:11:17.04\00:11:21.01 Love it. So it means writing A lot of scriptwriting. 00:11:21.04\00:11:24.05 A lot of work. We do most of it ourselves, we get help as well. 00:11:24.08\00:11:28.68 What is your primary responsibility? 00:11:28.72\00:11:31.99 Technically the producer which means, I organize to make it 00:11:32.02\00:11:37.96 happen. So all the logistics involved in getting the 00:11:37.99\00:11:41.76 scripts ready, doing the research, 00:11:41.80\00:11:43.50 where are we going to go to film these scripts, 00:11:43.53\00:11:47.07 how are we going to get there, where are we going to stay, 00:11:47.10\00:11:50.31 what permissions do we need, and then through to 00:11:50.34\00:11:55.04 how are we going to illustrate this program? 00:11:55.08\00:11:57.75 It's beautiful, we loved working together as a couple 00:11:57.78\00:12:02.42 and it's beautiful to see that you all are as well. 00:12:02.45\00:12:05.29 So, the Incredible Journey is a faith-based ministry 00:12:05.32\00:12:10.99 and it is a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day-Adventist 00:12:11.03\00:12:14.76 Church. Are you a 501 C3 non-profit? Yes, we are. 00:12:14.80\00:12:19.17 Yes. I didn't know if that turn if it waits Down Under but... 00:12:19.20\00:12:23.64 So, what projects are you currently involved with? 00:12:23.67\00:12:30.15 Well, we've come to America because great stories 00:12:30.18\00:12:34.98 happened here. And we traveled the world looking for stories 00:12:35.02\00:12:41.79 and through those stories, we introduce people to Jesus. 00:12:41.82\00:12:45.69 The Bible and to Jesus and so we're here filming a new series 00:12:45.73\00:12:51.33 of programs. In the past we've filmed programs on 00:12:51.37\00:12:55.30 Abraham Lincoln, the assignation of JFK, we've interviewed 00:12:55.34\00:13:01.38 Dr. Ben Carson, we've done a number of wonderful 00:13:01.41\00:13:05.88 programs here based on fabulous American stories. 00:13:05.91\00:13:10.05 So, we are back doing some more, we were stopped during Covid 00:13:10.09\00:13:15.09 we couldn't film in America during Covid so we're back here 00:13:15.12\00:13:19.53 filming stories and we found some marvelous stories 00:13:19.56\00:13:23.43 that we have just filmed, beautiful stories. 00:13:23.47\00:13:26.94 We've done Martin Luther King Jr. 00:13:26.97\00:13:29.27 We've done the Tuskegee Airman, we've done George Washington 00:13:29.30\00:13:34.21 Carver and just great stories, real American stories. 00:13:34.24\00:13:39.08 And Desmond Doss. Desmond Doss is another one 00:13:39.11\00:13:41.78 that we've done, yes. 00:13:41.82\00:13:43.32 That's beautiful and I think you have...we have a video clip 00:13:43.35\00:13:48.46 of some of these stories that they are putting together 00:13:48.49\00:13:52.56 and you can see the quality of their production. 00:13:52.59\00:13:56.10 It was in this seat that Abraham Lincoln was fatally shot 00:14:07.71\00:14:11.85 over 150 years ago in Ford's Theater Washington DC. 00:14:11.88\00:14:17.02 This is the window in the Texas School Depository 00:14:28.73\00:14:32.87 that changed history in a dramatic terrible way. 00:14:32.90\00:14:36.14 You get a clear view from here down to Elm Street in the 00:14:36.17\00:14:40.08 city of Dallas. Three, two, one, zero, blastoff 00:14:40.11\00:14:45.41 No one on planet earth was there to see humanities greatest 00:14:45.45\00:14:50.89 achievement. 00:14:50.92\00:14:52.25 That's because it didn't happen on planet Earth, 00:14:52.29\00:14:55.52 it happened on the moon, it was only seen through grainy 00:14:55.56\00:14:59.49 television images beamed across the distance of almost 400,00 km 00:14:59.53\00:15:04.97 when Neil Armstrong planted the first human step 00:15:05.00\00:15:09.60 on the lunar surface. 00:15:09.64\00:15:11.14 It began on the 21 of July, 1944. Allied Soldiers landing 00:15:11.17\00:15:18.58 here at Asan Beach on the Island of Guam. 00:15:18.61\00:15:21.25 They had to take it back from the Japanese soldiers 00:15:21.28\00:15:24.32 firing with machine guns and artillery. 00:15:24.35\00:15:27.02 And yet one soldier would make a name for himself by 00:15:27.06\00:15:31.46 saving lives. He refused to bear arms or carry a weapon 00:15:31.49\00:15:35.90 in the midst of constant enemy fire. He was unwilling to 00:15:35.93\00:15:40.30 take a life or even so much as touch a weapon. 00:15:40.34\00:15:43.87 He did however say that he would be proud to serve 00:15:43.91\00:15:47.18 his country as a medic, if they would let him. 00:15:47.21\00:15:50.38 And we starting putting together an amazing team of incredibly 00:15:50.41\00:15:54.25 talented people and it was an incredible, incredible 00:15:54.28\00:15:59.89 operation. We ran out of blood near the end of the operation 00:15:59.95\00:16:04.33 that put aside 50 units of blood, we ran out of blood 00:16:04.36\00:16:07.76 people on the team were volunteering their blood 00:16:07.80\00:16:10.77 they were saying I'll lay down, take my blood you know. 00:16:10.80\00:16:14.70 Barry Black is a force for integrity, goodness, reason, 00:16:14.74\00:16:18.57 and compassion along the corridors of power on 00:16:18.61\00:16:22.08 Capitol Hill. Let's go and meet him. Captain Black thank you 00:16:22.11\00:16:27.28 for your invitation to the Capitol Building and to meet 00:16:27.32\00:16:32.39 in your office, it's a pleasure to have you on our program 00:16:32.42\00:16:35.42 today. I'm delighted to be with you Gary. 00:16:35.46\00:16:37.39 We're looking at this big issue of depression. Yes. 00:16:37.43\00:16:41.86 Today we want to look at the solutions. Yes. 00:16:41.90\00:16:45.47 That's the most exciting part of this illness is that 00:16:45.50\00:16:49.24 there is a solution, there is a way out and I...one of the 00:16:49.27\00:16:54.61 most rewarding things that I do is put on treatment programs 00:16:54.64\00:16:59.31 for those who have previously thought that there was no way 00:16:59.35\00:17:03.99 out. So what you're seeing there is little snippets of their 00:17:05.39\00:17:08.99 various Docu-Dramas kind of put in together edited 00:17:09.02\00:17:13.40 into one role. And it's exciting to see that you're doing people 00:17:13.43\00:17:18.27 like Ben Carson who is the doctor that most people know and 00:17:18.33\00:17:23.14 he's been very heavily involved in politics but that 00:17:23.17\00:17:26.07 you're getting these stories that are so... 00:17:26.11\00:17:29.04 Tell me this, you're telling the story you're trying to reach a 00:17:29.08\00:17:35.22 secular audience, so how do you weave in the story of Jesus 00:17:35.25\00:17:41.46 into these stories? 00:17:41.49\00:17:43.09 Well of course the story of Jesus is the greatest story 00:17:43.12\00:17:45.69 ever told and it's the story that brings hope, 00:17:45.73\00:17:51.30 that brings peace, that brings what we are really all 00:17:51.33\00:17:55.80 searching for in our lives and so there's always a way 00:17:55.84\00:18:00.68 to bring Jesus into any person's story. 00:18:00.71\00:18:03.81 Anyone's life story is a place for Jesus. 00:18:03.85\00:18:07.08 And when you think about it, we are all searching 00:18:07.12\00:18:12.45 we're on a pilgrimage, we're on an Incredible Journey 00:18:12.49\00:18:15.89 and although a lot of secular people don't realize it 00:18:15.92\00:18:21.43 they too are searching to fill the emptiness in their lives. 00:18:21.46\00:18:27.07 As the theologians sometimes say there is a God-shaped hole 00:18:27.10\00:18:33.64 in every life. 00:18:33.68\00:18:35.21 Because God has put eternity Ecclesiastes tells us 00:18:35.24\00:18:39.25 God has put eternity into everyone's heart. 00:18:39.28\00:18:42.75 And so we are all on that search and so that story 00:18:42.78\00:18:47.82 can be woven into any story and that's what we do 00:18:47.86\00:18:50.56 because we weave the story of Jesus into all these programs 00:18:50.59\00:18:56.13 that we've had a quick look at the story of Jesus is there. 00:18:56.16\00:19:00.07 I love it, I love it. So, I'm going to call on you Robin. 00:19:00.14\00:19:03.94 The Incredible Journey, what a title, 00:19:03.97\00:19:07.58 tell us how you came up with this title. 00:19:07.61\00:19:09.48 Well, the title was actually Gary's idea. 00:19:09.51\00:19:13.82 So, he will tell us how it started from when 00:19:13.85\00:19:18.15 he was a child in Africa. 00:19:18.19\00:19:20.26 When we left Africa we decided as a family that instead of 00:19:20.29\00:19:26.09 flying home, we would drive home. 00:19:26.13\00:19:28.66 Which isn't easy when you are in Africa trying to get to 00:19:28.70\00:19:32.23 Australia, so instead of heading south we bought a good old 00:19:32.27\00:19:36.54 American Chevy truck, we put a camper van on the back 00:19:36.57\00:19:40.51 and we drove north in the opposite direction to home. 00:19:40.54\00:19:44.08 We drove right through Africa through the steamy jungles of 00:19:44.11\00:19:47.95 Equatorial Africa through the Sahara Desert, 00:19:47.98\00:19:51.15 this was a journey of a lifetime, an incredible journey. 00:19:51.19\00:19:56.22 When we got through Africa we made our way to London 00:19:56.26\00:20:00.30 and then we headed back south or southeast to India 00:20:00.33\00:20:07.14 all in this old Chevy truck and it was an incredible journey. 00:20:07.17\00:20:12.37 And as we made that journey one of the books that I read 00:20:12.41\00:20:15.41 was one of the most popular ever published in the English 00:20:15.44\00:20:18.51 or written in English language. 00:20:18.55\00:20:20.05 It was written while in prison by a prisoner by the name of 00:20:20.08\00:20:24.42 John Bunyan and sometime later after reading that book. 00:20:24.45\00:20:29.22 Pilgrim's Progress, Pilgrim's Progress, and that is the story 00:20:29.26\00:20:34.20 of each one of us, we are on a pilgrim's journey, 00:20:34.23\00:20:39.80 an incredible journey from here to eternity. 00:20:39.83\00:20:42.97 So when we started producing television programs 00:20:43.00\00:20:46.57 one of the first we did was at Bedford in the prison 00:20:46.61\00:20:50.91 the story of John Bunyan. 00:20:50.95\00:20:52.98 Wonderful. And I realized then hey, that's the story of 00:20:53.01\00:20:56.08 all of us so we decided to call the ministry 00:20:56.12\00:20:59.85 named after Pilgrim's Progress, An Incredible Journey 00:20:59.89\00:21:04.26 that we're all on from here to eternity. 00:21:04.29\00:21:07.73 Amen and amen! Hence the name Incredible Journey. 00:21:07.76\00:21:10.83 I love it, I love it. You know I think about you as PK's 00:21:10.87\00:21:16.04 missionary MK's, missionary kids and pastor's kids. 00:21:16.07\00:21:21.61 Your father's probably put up tents and used all 00:21:21.64\00:21:26.11 different things. How did you know you were going to 00:21:26.15\00:21:29.38 come to media? You've preached regular campaigns but what 00:21:29.42\00:21:33.86 made you decide on media? 00:21:33.89\00:21:35.62 Well we'd both grown up in homes that were dedicated 00:21:35.66\00:21:41.83 to living and sharing the gospel. 00:21:41.86\00:21:44.33 My grandfather was a church planter so he traveled to 00:21:44.37\00:21:49.04 regions of Australia, some of Australia's big regional centers 00:21:49.07\00:21:53.31 where there was not a Seventh-day-Adventist Christian 00:21:53.34\00:21:57.01 in sight and he would go down town, find an open place 00:21:57.05\00:22:01.98 in a park and he would pitch a massive tent and then he would 00:22:02.02\00:22:06.39 advertise and invite people to come and hear him preach 00:22:06.42\00:22:10.13 and so he was the sawdust trail. 00:22:10.16\00:22:12.69 My father followed in his footsteps but instead of 00:22:12.73\00:22:16.23 pitching a tent, he would hire the biggest theaters in town 00:22:16.26\00:22:22.20 in the city or large sporting stadiums and invite people 00:22:22.24\00:22:26.94 to hear the gospel. 00:22:26.98\00:22:28.34 I wanted to do something similar but we soon discovered that 00:22:28.38\00:22:33.75 it is becoming more and more difficult to attract people 00:22:33.78\00:22:38.02 to a venue. So instead of bringing them to us 00:22:38.05\00:22:43.09 we decided to go to them. 00:22:43.12\00:22:44.93 Yeah. And one of the most effective ways to do that 00:22:44.96\00:22:47.96 is through the media. 00:22:48.00\00:22:49.33 So we every week, we go right into people's homes while 00:22:49.36\00:22:55.04 they're sitting in their lounge chair watching a television 00:22:55.07\00:22:58.04 screen or their computer screen or their phone screen 00:22:58.07\00:23:01.61 and we share the gospel with them right in their home 00:23:01.64\00:23:05.58 where they are. 00:23:05.61\00:23:06.95 Amen! That's amazing. I think they call them pioneers. 00:23:06.98\00:23:09.98 And your grandfather was a pioneer? Correct. 00:23:10.02\00:23:14.69 Your father was a pioneer. Yes. 00:23:14.72\00:23:16.06 You're a pioneer. We use a different medium, 00:23:16.09\00:23:19.26 but sharing the same message. Amen. And media is a powerful 00:23:19.29\00:23:24.03 way to reach the masses, its one of the most effective ways 00:23:24.07\00:23:27.84 to do that. And everybody loves to go on location and see 00:23:27.87\00:23:33.27 A docudrama, it's something that brings the story to life. 00:23:33.31\00:23:36.98 So, by the way, you can watch The Incredible Journey 00:23:37.01\00:23:42.05 on 3ABN, they air on our Parent Network as well as our 00:23:42.08\00:23:47.36 International Network and if it's not on the schedule 00:23:47.39\00:23:51.89 on an hour that is convenient to you, just download the 3ABN+ 00:23:51.93\00:23:58.23 app, that's free and then you can watch on demand. 00:23:58.27\00:24:02.30 And you can watch it on YouTube as well or on the website. 00:24:02.34\00:24:06.88 And your website is: The Incredible Journey, TIJ.tv. 00:24:06.91\00:24:12.35 That's wonderful. So you are not only doing programs 00:24:12.38\00:24:17.09 in the United States obviously, tell us about some of the 00:24:17.12\00:24:21.12 programs that you are really putting your architectural 00:24:21.16\00:24:26.13 knowledge into place. 00:24:26.16\00:24:28.70 Well, as we say, we go to... we literally go to the 00:24:28.73\00:24:33.80 ends of the earth to follow up good stories that we can use 00:24:33.84\00:24:38.17 to share the gospel. So we filmed on seven continents 00:24:38.21\00:24:42.38 and we filmed in some wonderful places. 00:24:42.41\00:24:44.58 We recently filmed a program on the story of Masada in Israel. 00:24:44.61\00:24:49.22 Inspiring stories and maybe that's a clip we can 00:24:49.25\00:24:53.66 have a look at and see how that program looks, 00:24:53.69\00:24:57.93 what it feels like and what it was like filming that program 00:24:57.96\00:25:02.46 right on location on Masada. Absolutely. Let's roll that. 00:25:02.50\00:25:07.40 Judea was ruled by Rome 2,000 years ago in the time of 00:25:12.44\00:25:16.34 Jesus of Nazareth. Even then the people were chafing 00:25:16.38\00:25:20.25 under Roman rule, their occasional small-scale 00:25:20.28\00:25:24.45 rebellions but they were quickly crashed. 00:25:24.49\00:25:26.32 In AD 66 however, the Jewish revolt fled into a full-scale 00:25:26.35\00:25:33.66 war that raged for four years until the Roman General Titus 00:25:33.70\00:25:37.67 conquered Jerusalem, destroyed the sacred temple and expelled 00:25:37.70\00:25:42.37 most of the survivors from the country. 00:25:42.40\00:25:44.47 One outpost alone held out against the Romans 00:25:48.98\00:25:52.65 it was the Fortress of Masada built high above the Dead Sea 00:25:52.68\00:25:57.72 upon a barren mountainous plateau. 00:25:57.75\00:26:00.52 One of the most heroic incredible stories of all 00:26:00.56\00:26:05.93 history was played out here when a small group of Jewish Zealots 00:26:05.96\00:26:10.03 defied the power of Rome. 00:26:10.07\00:26:12.13 It's a story that carries a special message for us today. 00:26:12.17\00:26:16.44 Well, we've been to Masada on a number of occasions, 00:26:22.54\00:26:25.08 it is an incredible story. I look forward to seeing that, 00:26:25.11\00:26:28.28 though. So tell us about some of the others that you are 00:26:28.32\00:26:32.49 doing. Well we filmed programs in England on John Wesley, 00:26:32.52\00:26:36.86 on Martin Luther, in Germany, we've filmed throughout the 00:26:36.89\00:26:41.16 Middle East, we filmed stories as I mentioned to you I love 00:26:41.20\00:26:43.93 archeology and so we filmed stories on the Dead Sea Scrolls 00:26:43.97\00:26:48.74 we filmed another on the discovery of the Rosetta Stone. 00:26:48.77\00:26:52.34 The Wonders of Egypt, we find that these are people who are 00:26:52.37\00:26:56.58 interested in today. And so we use these themes, these stories, 00:26:56.61\00:27:02.82 to lead people to Jesus. 00:27:02.85\00:27:05.29 And you know, I love the stories that you're talking about 00:27:05.32\00:27:08.62 on the Reformation because nowadays most people have no 00:27:08.66\00:27:13.70 idea of what a Protestant really is. It's amazing as we lose 00:27:13.73\00:27:19.43 sight of History, we forget many of us are Protestants 00:27:19.47\00:27:24.21 who are watching...I'm a Protestant, you're a Protestant, 00:27:24.24\00:27:27.88 we're all Protestants here. But what are we protesting? 00:27:27.91\00:27:31.41 And that's the beauty of bringing history back again in, 00:27:31.45\00:27:34.45 it's so that people can understand what their doing 00:27:34.48\00:27:39.15 and prepare themselves for the future. 00:27:39.19\00:27:41.36 And also what's important is that most people are getting 00:27:41.39\00:27:44.26 where they don't want to read, either they don't have the time 00:27:44.29\00:27:47.16 to read or they're not interested and so it would... 00:27:47.20\00:27:50.27 We used to call it cliff notes, I don't know what they use today 00:27:50.30\00:27:53.00 but here we can actually go to video and you 'all have done 00:27:53.03\00:27:56.34 the major work and you're hitting the major points. 00:27:56.37\00:27:59.17 JD we live in a visual world and people want to see things 00:27:59.21\00:28:04.31 and that's the world we live in today. 00:28:04.35\00:28:06.05 And so we got to meet people where they are and as I say, 00:28:06.08\00:28:10.12 one of the most effective ways to do that is through Media, 00:28:10.15\00:28:13.59 through television, through the internet, and so on. 00:28:13.62\00:28:17.93 That's where people are, that's what they are interested in 00:28:17.96\00:28:20.76 and we've got the greatest story of all to tell 00:28:20.80\00:28:24.23 so let's tell it and let's reach them. Amen and Amen! 00:28:24.27\00:28:28.67 You were saying when we were talking in the Green Room 00:28:28.70\00:28:32.47 this was fascinating to me, that when we talk about 00:28:32.51\00:28:36.14 Australia being a secular society many of them have never 00:28:36.18\00:28:41.92 heard the basic Bible Stories of History. 00:28:41.95\00:28:46.52 So, they don't know who Daniel is, they don't know who 00:28:46.55\00:28:49.96 Abraham...even Moses. Well, tell us about your Bible Stories 00:28:49.99\00:28:53.90 that you're doing? 00:28:53.93\00:28:55.26 So, we've realized that people don't have the Biblical 00:28:55.30\00:28:58.40 foundations that past generations have had, 00:28:58.43\00:29:01.70 fewer people are going to church, they never hear those 00:29:01.74\00:29:04.24 stories and so we have hired some of the biggest 00:29:04.27\00:29:09.14 Hollywood Movie Sets and we've used those sets to tell 00:29:09.18\00:29:15.58 Bible Stories. Amen. And so we've told the story of Joseph, 00:29:15.62\00:29:19.29 the story of Moses, we've told the story of Abraham, 00:29:19.32\00:29:24.13 we're telling the story of Daniel and we are re-enacting 00:29:24.16\00:29:28.90 these Bible Stories on sets that are meaningful to the 00:29:28.93\00:29:34.40 secular mind, to secular people who watch these movies. 00:29:34.44\00:29:38.17 And so for us, it's been a privilege to tell Bible Stories 00:29:38.21\00:29:43.35 often in the land where they actually took place. 00:29:43.38\00:29:47.02 But you go beyond just the major character, you're doing 00:29:47.05\00:29:50.99 Bible re-enactments of various things that have happened, 00:29:51.02\00:29:55.52 tell us about that. 00:29:55.56\00:29:56.89 So yes, we tell these Bible Stories, we reenact the 00:29:56.93\00:30:00.10 story Joseph, the story of Moses, the story of Abraham, 00:30:00.13\00:30:04.27 we bring those Bible stories to life and people can 00:30:04.30\00:30:09.04 relate to them as they see them re-enacted in real life. 00:30:09.07\00:30:12.81 Also the Fall of Jerusalem and the...from the Fall of Jerusalem 00:30:12.84\00:30:20.08 to the Reformation, we've done a whole series of those programs 00:30:20.12\00:30:23.75 as well. So, what would a typical length be 00:30:23.79\00:30:26.52 of one of these documentaries? 00:30:26.55\00:30:28.19 One of these stories, so we've just done one on...very recently 00:30:28.22\00:30:34.16 on the Fall of Jerusalem so it's a three-part series 00:30:34.20\00:30:37.60 and it picks up the early church after the Crucifixion 00:30:37.63\00:30:42.57 and Resurrection of Jesus, what happened after that? 00:30:42.60\00:30:45.81 and so we lead into the Fall of Jerusalem, a three-part series. 00:30:45.84\00:30:50.45 Yeah cause a lot of people think it all stopped at 00:30:50.48\00:30:53.05 His Crucifixion you know so I mean there is a History 00:30:53.08\00:30:57.15 and wow, there is a Reformation up there so we jump to the sixth 00:30:57.19\00:31:01.39 1500s or 1600s but what happened all before then? 00:31:01.42\00:31:04.99 Amen! So we tell that story, the Fall of Jerusalem 00:31:05.03\00:31:08.60 how Christianity began to spread throughout the world 00:31:08.63\00:31:12.77 and then how there was a falling away from Bible truth. 00:31:12.80\00:31:15.74 So, we have another series called The Game Changer. 00:31:15.77\00:31:20.31 Constantine the Great and what happened during that period 00:31:20.34\00:31:24.41 of History, how Bible truth was lost and led into the 00:31:24.45\00:31:27.92 Dark Ages and from there, the story of the Reformation 00:31:27.95\00:31:32.35 the Waldesians, John Wycliffe, and then from there to 00:31:32.39\00:31:36.66 John Hus or Jan Hus and Martin Luther, and John Wesley. 00:31:36.69\00:31:42.26 And then we're getting right through to our own period 00:31:42.30\00:31:47.54 of History you know for John Wesley came here to America 00:31:47.57\00:31:50.64 and it was on the ship over to America that he met the 00:31:50.67\00:31:55.74 Moravians and he heard and understood the true gospel 00:31:55.78\00:32:01.78 for the first time, the Good News of Jesus 00:32:01.82\00:32:04.65 became meaningful to him. It happened here 00:32:04.69\00:32:07.46 on the way to America so we are getting down to our 00:32:07.49\00:32:11.13 period of History now. 00:32:11.16\00:32:12.59 And you know for those of you at home who...some of these 00:32:12.63\00:32:16.73 names may not be registering with you. Who was John Hus? 00:32:16.77\00:32:20.50 Who are these people? Who is John Wesley? 00:32:20.54\00:32:23.64 That's why you need to watch The Incredible Journey. 00:32:23.67\00:32:27.28 You can watch it on 3ABN+ or you can go to TIJ.tv and 00:32:27.31\00:32:33.38 see these programs on demand and let History come to life 00:32:33.42\00:32:39.52 because I'll tell you what, we need to know History, 00:32:39.55\00:32:43.06 History does repeat itself and we are beginning to... 00:32:43.09\00:32:46.96 I think we are beginning to see a cycle of History 00:32:47.00\00:32:50.97 repeating itself and that's going to be interesting. 00:32:51.00\00:32:54.30 Shelley, we also need to remember that History really is 00:32:54.34\00:33:00.78 His story. Amen! It's the story of Jesus in some shape or form 00:33:00.81\00:33:04.61 And so we try to...as we are telling these great Historical 00:33:04.65\00:33:08.55 stories, as we are unearthing things in the Middle East and 00:33:08.58\00:33:12.85 the field of Archeology. His story, Jesus' story, 00:33:12.89\00:33:17.76 shines through each time. Amen! 00:33:17.79\00:33:20.63 The theme that keeps coming up and this is what we're 00:33:20.66\00:33:23.83 talking about is when we first started 00:33:23.87\00:33:26.30 we started talking about the Good News of who? Jesus. 00:33:26.33\00:33:30.41 And you keep bringing that up so it makes no difference 00:33:30.44\00:33:35.01 whether we are up here and got Paul or Daniel. 00:33:35.04\00:33:38.31 or we're down here with Martin Luther, we're still talking 00:33:38.35\00:33:42.95 about the Good News and that's where we're going to continue 00:33:42.98\00:33:46.82 to go is that right? 00:33:46.86\00:33:48.19 Absolutely, let me tell you something interesting. 00:33:48.22\00:33:50.93 We did a program on NASA, rockets to the moon and 00:33:50.96\00:33:56.46 people said, how on earth are you going to relate that 00:33:56.50\00:33:59.80 to the story of Jesus? Well, what is interesting 00:33:59.83\00:34:03.24 is in that program which is entitled 00:34:03.27\00:34:06.07 The Book That Went to The Moon, the only book that's ever 00:34:06.11\00:34:10.41 gone to the moon is the Bible. And it went on one of those 00:34:10.45\00:34:14.02 early Apollo Flights and it was the first book that was taken 00:34:15.22\00:34:19.82 to the moon by a group of Christians. 00:34:19.85\00:34:21.46 What a lot of people don't realize is that many of those 00:34:21.49\00:34:25.06 pioneer astronauts were Christians. Amen! 00:34:25.09\00:34:28.56 And when they went to the moon, they wanted to take 00:34:28.60\00:34:31.83 the Bible with them and they did. Amen! Praise God! 00:34:31.87\00:34:35.70 Great story, so even the story of NASA, Space Exploration, 00:34:35.74\00:34:40.58 Rockets to the Moon, the story of Jesus fits in there 00:34:40.61\00:34:46.45 perfectly. Now, I love how multi-faceted your ministry is 00:34:46.48\00:34:51.62 we're talking about Docudramas, Bible re-enactment, Bible Story 00:34:51.65\00:34:57.13 re-enactment, various historical re-enactments but for the people 00:34:57.16\00:35:02.73 of Papua New Guinea who do not read you all have done 00:35:02.76\00:35:06.94 something very special, tell us about that. 00:35:06.97\00:35:09.67 We have a special burden for people who cannot read or write. 00:35:09.70\00:35:14.21 And it's surprising how many people there are on our planet 00:35:14.24\00:35:19.25 today who are unable to read or write even in this modern age. 00:35:19.28\00:35:23.08 So we had to find a way to reach them and so I've got 00:35:23.12\00:35:27.92 one of these special Bibles that are very dear to my heart. 00:35:27.96\00:35:32.36 This is an audio Bible and so we went to PNG, 00:35:32.39\00:35:39.53 Papua New Guinea up into the Highlands where there are 00:35:39.57\00:35:44.01 people who can't read or write and we translated and 00:35:44.04\00:35:47.74 put the Bible in audio form on what we call a God Pod. 00:35:47.78\00:35:52.91 So it's an audio Bible and here in their own language 00:35:52.95\00:35:57.85 the people of New Guinea in Pigeon could listen to 00:35:57.89\00:36:02.02 the Word of God, they couldn't read it but they could hear it. 00:36:02.06\00:36:06.06 We did the same in the Solomons, we translated, we put the Bible 00:36:06.09\00:36:11.53 audio into their own language and put it on one of these 00:36:11.57\00:36:16.40 God-Pods from Mega voice and these 10's of thousands 00:36:16.44\00:36:21.68 of these God-Pods have now been shared with people 00:36:21.71\00:36:25.75 and their villages who cannot read or write. 00:36:25.78\00:36:28.58 We did the same in Africa with some of our partner ministries. 00:36:28.62\00:36:32.55 We took the Word of God to some of the most primitive people 00:36:32.59\00:36:38.69 on earth, the Kalahari Bushmen for example who are now 00:36:38.73\00:36:43.30 able to hear the Good News of Jesus in their mother tongue. 00:36:43.33\00:36:48.20 And what about the Indigenous people of Australia? 00:36:48.24\00:36:52.34 Now that's another group of people who are very dear 00:36:52.37\00:36:54.88 to my heart, people who are struggling in today's 00:36:54.91\00:36:59.81 modern society, some of them, making the adjustments 00:36:59.85\00:37:03.72 from...in some people's understanding the stone age 00:37:03.75\00:37:08.66 to the 21st century in just a few generations and 00:37:08.69\00:37:13.36 that's a big step to take. 00:37:13.40\00:37:14.80 It took us Europeans or those of us who have a 00:37:14.83\00:37:18.07 European heritage, it took us centuries, they've had to do it 00:37:18.10\00:37:21.57 in a very short period of time so we love those people. 00:37:21.60\00:37:24.81 We call them the aboriginal people first Australians, 00:37:24.84\00:37:28.18 Indigenous Australians and we've produced a variety of programs 00:37:28.21\00:37:33.31 that will relate to them, programs called 00:37:33.35\00:37:36.25 Along the Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Girl Who Talked to The 00:37:36.28\00:37:40.92 Stars, these are Indigenous people who found Jesus. 00:37:40.96\00:37:44.76 And we are telling their stories because the Indigenous people 00:37:44.79\00:37:48.96 can relate to those stories. Amen. 00:37:49.00\00:37:52.03 And that's what people want is to have something that 00:37:52.07\00:37:55.17 they can respond to because it it's relevant to their lives. 00:37:55.20\00:38:01.34 Now, tell us how the ministry is affecting people? 00:38:01.38\00:38:06.28 I think you had Chris Rentell somebody that you were going to 00:38:06.31\00:38:10.42 tell his story. 00:38:10.45\00:38:11.95 People often ask us who have been reached by these programs? 00:38:11.99\00:38:15.92 Well, we travel across Australia visiting churches 00:38:15.96\00:38:19.66 virtually every week and every church we go to, new churches 00:38:19.69\00:38:24.23 there is someone who will come up to us and say 00:38:24.27\00:38:26.37 hey, I first heard about Jesus by watching 00:38:26.40\00:38:30.57 The Incredible Journey or The Incredible Journey played 00:38:30.61\00:38:33.61 a part of my own spiritual pilgrimage. 00:38:33.64\00:38:37.38 And very recently we met the most amazing character 00:38:37.41\00:38:41.62 who came to us and said, Gary I watched one of your programs 00:38:41.65\00:38:45.65 at two O'clock on a Sunday morning, couldn't sleep 00:38:45.69\00:38:49.82 was upset, worried, concerned, had no peace in my life 00:38:49.86\00:38:54.36 and I woke up, flipped the television on and there I saw 00:38:54.40\00:38:58.43 you sharing the news of Jesus and it affected me, 00:38:58.47\00:39:02.40 it made a difference to my life. 00:39:02.44\00:39:04.34 And he said I became a Christian, a Seventh-day 00:39:04.37\00:39:07.94 Adventist Christian and he said I've had the most amazing 00:39:07.98\00:39:14.25 experience. He said my daughter was celebrating her, 00:39:14.28\00:39:17.35 I think it was her 30th Birthday and so we decided to go 00:39:17.39\00:39:21.89 parachuting to celebrate and so we drove down to the 00:39:21.92\00:39:26.23 Little Bush Airfield, flew up three kilometers 00:39:26.26\00:39:30.77 into the heavens, the sky and my daughter jumped out first 00:39:30.80\00:39:36.24 we each had an instructor jump with us and so off she jumped 00:39:36.27\00:39:42.88 out of the plane and then it was my turn, 00:39:42.91\00:39:45.05 he said I was very afraid and we jumped out, 00:39:45.08\00:39:47.85 me and the instructor and all went well, it was an 00:39:47.88\00:39:52.22 exhilarating experience until he said, we realize the instructor 00:39:52.25\00:39:57.13 and I that our parachutes weren't opening... 00:39:57.16\00:40:01.30 And so he said, there we were falling three kilometers 00:40:01.33\00:40:04.50 without a parachute. 00:40:04.53\00:40:06.20 And so he said...It was terrifying. 00:40:06.23\00:40:09.47 Tai..you didn't mention it was a terrifying experience 00:40:09.50\00:40:13.61 but he said, in that moment of desperation 00:40:13.64\00:40:18.38 he said I shared with my instructor the story of Jesus. 00:40:18.41\00:40:23.49 He said we had a very short time, I said give your life 00:40:23.52\00:40:26.49 to Jesus no matter what happens everything will be alright then 00:40:26.52\00:40:31.63 as long as we commit our lives to Jesus. 00:40:31.66\00:40:35.50 What happened was as they neared the ground, that instructor 00:40:35.53\00:40:40.14 cushioned the fall of Chris Rantell, now both of them 00:40:40.17\00:40:45.54 were seriously injured, the instructor sadly didn't survive 00:40:45.57\00:40:50.65 the fall but Chris although he was seriously injured 00:40:50.68\00:40:54.52 he was saved by his instructor. 00:40:54.55\00:40:57.35 And so, what a story of sharing the Good News of Jesus 00:40:57.39\00:41:03.73 even in that death fall so we went down to meet Chris 00:41:03.76\00:41:09.10 he shared his story, we made a Doc-a drama, a television 00:41:09.13\00:41:15.30 program based on his story of how the Good News of Jesus 00:41:15.34\00:41:20.58 has made a difference to his life and also made 00:41:20.61\00:41:23.71 a difference to the life of his instructor as they fell 00:41:23.75\00:41:27.32 to the ground. Imagine falling three, that's about a mile 00:41:27.35\00:41:30.69 and a half for Americans, a mile and a half without a 00:41:30.72\00:41:35.02 parachute and surviving it. That's amazing. 00:41:35.06\00:41:39.59 Well! that's amazing. 00:41:39.63\00:41:41.36 And the reality is to go back to The Incredible Journey 00:41:41.40\00:41:46.60 that seed was planted at two O'clock in the morning 00:41:46.63\00:41:49.84 who would ever guess? You know sometimes... 00:41:49.87\00:41:53.68 J.D. what we are finding is that God can speak to our hearts 00:41:53.71\00:41:57.25 any time of the day. Yeah. Amen. 00:41:57.28\00:41:59.85 Even in the wee hours of the morning. 00:41:59.88\00:42:01.68 The thing that is capturing my attention is 00:42:01.72\00:42:04.75 well, let's go back to the missionaries I mean you 'all are 00:42:04.79\00:42:07.72 missionaries and it just really hit me yes you can sit here 00:42:07.76\00:42:11.49 and listen and listen to the stories but then you've got 00:42:11.53\00:42:15.20 a small audio unit that you're actually going to people 00:42:15.23\00:42:19.53 that have never heard the Word before. 00:42:19.57\00:42:22.27 And then you are taking the time being all be it missionaries 00:42:22.30\00:42:26.78 and translating into their language so those seeds 00:42:26.81\00:42:30.48 are being planted and their maybe people lots of places 00:42:30.51\00:42:33.01 that are jumping out of planes that have stories to tell and 00:42:33.05\00:42:36.12 wonder, well why? 00:42:36.15\00:42:37.49 You know, what impresses me sometimes as Christians 00:42:37.52\00:42:43.26 we're preaching to the choir. We get to where we are focusing 00:42:43.29\00:42:48.76 our own membership or preaching to the choir, 00:42:48.80\00:42:53.67 people who already know and what we need to remember 00:42:53.70\00:42:58.27 Matthew 24:14 Jesus said, that this gospel will go into 00:42:58.31\00:43:03.01 every nation around the world and when you are talking about 00:43:03.04\00:43:07.82 people who have never heard the Bible and you're thinking 00:43:07.85\00:43:09.88 of the Indigenous people but we have secular societies 00:43:09.92\00:43:15.36 that are clueless. Many who have never even heard and 00:43:15.39\00:43:20.20 you know we think... You are talking going on in Australia 00:43:20.23\00:43:24.13 but we've had it happen right here in United States 00:43:24.17\00:43:27.04 we interviewed a police officer who was working with 00:43:27.07\00:43:32.31 gang members and he went in and said these kids 00:43:32.34\00:43:36.11 they were 16 to 21, they had never the name of Jesus, 00:43:36.14\00:43:43.35 they thought they evolved from apes and he said as soon as 00:43:43.39\00:43:46.92 he told them the story of creation and that they were 00:43:46.96\00:43:49.62 created in the image of Jesus their attitudes changed. 00:43:49.66\00:43:53.16 So we take things for granted, let me ask you, 00:43:53.19\00:43:56.90 what you've got to clip that, we want to make sure we get in 00:43:56.93\00:44:00.70 that dead men do tell tales. Tell us. 00:44:00.74\00:44:04.87 Well, there's an old English saying "Dead men don't 00:44:04.91\00:44:09.38 tell tales".
