My name is Ryan Day 00:01:07.40\00:01:11.40 and this is one big giant Day family program. I think. At 00:01:11.43\00:01:17.11 least we're learning that we may be connected or related somehow 00:01:17.14\00:01:19.97 but today on the program we have Dean and Hilda Day from 00:01:20.01\00:01:25.01 Louisiana from the Lake Charles area and my friends you're not 00:01:25.05\00:01:27.35 going to go anywhere because they have a powerful, powerful 00:01:27.38\00:01:30.59 testimony of how the Lord transformed them from one life 00:01:30.62\00:01:34.76 style, living one way, kind of just cruising through life until 00:01:34.79\00:01:38.59 God sent a powerful influence to Dean and Hilda both and they 00:01:38.63\00:01:43.73 learned the truth through 3ABN and now their life's not been 00:01:43.77\00:01:45.83 the same again. And so we're going to learn about all of that 00:01:45.87\00:01:48.24 good stuff. It's a blessing to have you guys. How you doing? 00:01:48.27\00:01:50.87 Fine, thank you. Just fine. 00:01:50.91\00:01:52.87 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord And so we're going to get to 00:01:52.91\00:01:55.58 learn a little bit more about Dean and Hilda throughout this 00:01:55.61\00:01:58.48 program. But before we dive deep into their story and how God has 00:01:58.51\00:02:02.98 transformed their life we're going to be blessed by a special 00:02:03.02\00:02:05.75 special song brought to us by Moses Brown and our good friend 00:02:05.79\00:02:10.59 Tim Parton and they're going to be performing that classic song 00:02:10.63\00:02:13.03 This Little Light of Mine. 00:02:13.06\00:02:16.03 ¤ ¤ 00:02:16.06\00:02:30.58 ¤ This little light of mine I'm gonna let it shine ¤ 00:02:30.61\00:02:38.95 ¤ Oh This little light of mine I'm gonna let it shine ¤ 00:02:38.99\00:02:50.33 ¤ Oh this little light of mine I'm gonna let it shine ¤ 00:02:50.37\00:03:01.24 ¤ Let it shine, let it shine let it shine ¤ 00:03:01.28\00:03:09.65 ¤ Mmm Everywhere I go I'm gonna let it shine ¤ 00:03:09.68\00:03:16.66 ¤ Everywhere I go church I'm gonna let it shine ¤ 00:03:16.69\00:03:27.80 ¤ Oh everywhere you go you gotta let it shine ¤ 00:03:27.84\00:03:34.24 ¤ Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine ¤ 00:03:34.28\00:03:43.75 ¤ All around your neighborhood You gotta let it shine ¤ 00:03:43.79\00:03:50.53 ¤ All around your neighborhood let this vertical message shine 00:03:50.56\00:04:00.24 ¤ All around your neighborhood you gotta let it shine ¤ 00:04:00.27\00:04:07.38 ¤ Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine ¤ 00:04:07.41\00:04:18.95 ¤ Oh Jesus on the main line Tell Him what you want ¤ 00:04:18.99\00:04:27.06 ¤ Jesus on the main line Tell Him what you want ¤ 00:04:27.10\00:04:39.27 ¤ Oh call him up and tell Him what you want ¤ 00:04:39.31\00:04:45.15 ¤ Oh if you're sick and can't get well ¤ 00:04:45.18\00:04:49.85 ¤ Tell Him what you want ¤ 00:04:49.88\00:04:51.95 ¤ If you sick and can't get well Tell Him what you want ¤ 00:04:51.99\00:04:57.99 ¤ Oh if you sick and can't get well ¤ 00:04:58.03\00:05:02.70 ¤ Tell Him what you want ¤ 00:05:02.73\00:05:06.10 ¤ Oh call Him up and tell Him what you want ¤ 00:05:06.13\00:05:11.24 ¤ If you need the Holy Ghost Tell Him what you want ¤ 00:05:11.27\00:05:22.88 ¤ If you need that Holy Ghost Tell Him what you want ¤ 00:05:22.92\00:05:28.12 ¤ Oh call Him up and tell Him what you want ¤ 00:05:28.16\00:05:37.93 ¤ ¤ 00:05:37.97\00:05:39.30 ¤ Oh when the saints go marching in ¤ 00:05:39.33\00:05:50.85 ¤ Oh Lord I want to be in that number ¤ 00:05:50.88\00:05:56.92 ¤ When the saints go marching in ¤ 00:05:56.95\00:06:01.12 ¤ Oh when they shout around the throne ¤ 00:06:01.16\00:06:07.13 ¤ When they should around the throne ¤ 00:06:07.16\00:06:13.27 ¤ Oh Lord I want to be in that number ¤ 00:06:13.30\00:06:19.51 ¤ When they shout around the throne ¤ 00:06:19.54\00:06:25.05 ¤ Oh when they wear that new white robe ¤ 00:06:25.08\00:06:35.66 ¤ Oh Lord I want to be in that number ¤ 00:06:35.69\00:06:41.76 ¤ When they wear that new white robe ¤ 00:06:41.80\00:06:47.84 ¤ Oh when they walk those streets of gold ¤ 00:06:47.87\00:06:51.81 (spoken) Gonna be there 00:06:51.84\00:06:53.38 ¤ When they walk those streets of gold ¤ 00:06:53.41\00:06:59.28 ¤ Oh Lord I want to be in that number ¤ 00:06:59.31\00:07:04.55 ¤ When they walk those streets of gold ¤ 00:07:04.59\00:07:10.36 ¤ Oh when the saints go marching in ¤ 00:07:10.39\00:07:14.73 ¤ When the saints go marching in ¤ 00:07:14.76\00:07:21.14 ¤ Oh Lord I want to be in that number ¤ 00:07:21.17\00:07:27.11 ¤ When the saints go marching in! ¤ 00:07:27.14\00:07:41.06 Hallelujah 00:07:41.09\00:07:47.06 Aha, Yes that's my kind of music right there. This Little Light 00:07:47.10\00:07:50.80 of Mine, it was medley This Little Light of Mine, 00:07:50.83\00:07:53.34 I think Jesus on 00:07:53.37\00:07:54.70 the Mainline, and then When the Saints Go Marching In. You know 00:07:54.74\00:07:58.11 a lot of people consider those to be children's songs but you 00:07:58.14\00:08:01.61 know what there's a message there even from some of us older 00:08:01.64\00:08:04.25 folk as well. Some of the best songs. Thank you, Brother Moses 00:08:04.28\00:08:07.42 and Tim for that. I could tell Tim was having a great time on 00:08:07.45\00:08:11.85 that music. His fingers were going. I'm sure if you could 00:08:11.89\00:08:15.99 hear his feet were tapping away. But anyway, Praise the Lord for 00:08:16.02\00:08:20.06 that. Dean and Hilda Day. It's such a blessing to have you guys 00:08:20.10\00:08:24.40 here. And we were discussing a little bit behind the scene 00:08:24.43\00:08:27.60 before we actually came to conduct this interview. We don't 00:08:27.64\00:08:32.07 know exactly the connection but we figured somewhere down the 00:08:32.11\00:08:35.04 line we're connected and akin to each other at some point. But 00:08:35.08\00:08:39.95 it's a blessing to have you both Since you're new here, this is 00:08:39.98\00:08:42.68 your first time why don't we start with just a general 00:08:42.72\00:08:45.85 introduction, where you're from, a little bit about yourself. 00:08:45.89\00:08:47.42 I'll start with you Dean. Go ahead. 00:08:47.46\00:08:48.79 Well Dean Day from southwest Louisiana, born and raised down 00:08:48.82\00:08:53.50 there. Moved all over the state of Louisiana. Worked for a major 00:08:53.53\00:08:57.73 insurance company and graduated from LSU (Louisiana State 00:08:57.77\00:09:00.67 University) Go Tigers. 00:09:00.70\00:09:05.74 Yeah LSU. And then Hilda you were telling me just a little 00:09:05.77\00:09:07.11 bit ago that you do have some, a little bit of connection to 00:09:07.14\00:09:11.18 Arkansas where I grew up because your mother grew up not to far 00:09:11.21\00:09:14.02 from Jonesboro, Arkansas in the little small town of Bay so 00:09:14.05\00:09:18.72 there may be a little something there but tell us a little bit 00:09:18.75\00:09:21.02 about where you're from also. 00:09:21.06\00:09:22.62 Well I was raised in southwest Louisiana and I also graduated 00:09:22.66\00:09:26.56 from LSU. 00:09:26.59\00:09:28.10 Ah, LSU alumni. I love it, I love it. So you guys...tell me 00:09:28.13\00:09:33.13 a little bit about...we're going to kind of build up because we 00:09:33.17\00:09:36.64 know that you guys eventually came in contact with 3ABN or at 00:09:36.67\00:09:41.71 least the programming of 3ABN. And there was a mighty change 00:09:41.74\00:09:44.91 and a transformation began to happen because of the 00:09:44.95\00:09:48.55 programming that you were watching there and learning. 00:09:48.58\00:09:49.92 But tell us...let's go back now, let's look at life before you 00:09:49.95\00:09:54.16 learned this new truth that's in the Bible, before you got the 00:09:54.19\00:09:59.06 complete story I guess we could say. Tell us a little bit about 00:09:59.09\00:10:01.86 what life was like for Dean and Hilda before coming into this 00:10:01.90\00:10:06.33 knowledge of the new truth that you've learned and are 00:10:06.37\00:10:08.90 living for. 00:10:08.94\00:10:10.47 So being from South Louisiana everything is a party everything 00:10:10.51\00:10:14.58 about Louisiana come on down we'll have a good time, right? 00:10:14.61\00:10:18.68 That's what they say. 00:10:18.71\00:10:20.05 That's right. So living life in South Louisiana is incredibly 00:10:20.08\00:10:25.35 fun. We have all these natural resources and beauty. Long story 00:10:25.39\00:10:30.86 short here come the parties right behind that. Hilda and I 00:10:30.89\00:10:34.16 were no different. We were, you know, we were King and Queens of 00:10:34.20\00:10:38.77 Mardi Gras crews and it was wonderful. I mean we really 00:10:38.80\00:10:43.81 enjoyed that. 00:10:43.84\00:10:46.68 You don't get more of a party atmosphere than Mardi Gras. I've 00:10:46.71\00:10:52.65 never personally attended Mardi Gras but I have seen clips, I've 00:10:52.68\00:10:56.28 seen video footage. I've even been to New Orleans. I've walked 00:10:56.32\00:11:01.52 the famous Bourbon Street which I've never been there of course 00:11:01.56\00:11:03.43 during Mardi Gras but I've seen and I've been in the atmosphere 00:11:03.46\00:11:06.16 where the heart of that is conducted and I mean some people 00:11:06.19\00:11:12.10 would probably depending on I guess what time and the nature 00:11:12.13\00:11:15.04 of the celebration would probably categorize it as the 00:11:15.07\00:11:19.64 part of all parties. 00:11:19.67\00:11:22.48 Indeed. Nothing like waking up in the morning with a little 00:11:22.51\00:11:27.05 bloody Mary and walking out to the parade route, catching cheap 00:11:27.08\00:11:31.82 beads, drinking all day long. It was no big deal. And then you 00:11:31.85\00:11:37.96 know waking up, go to church on Sunday morning. Put my hours, 00:11:37.99\00:11:40.96 put the time in and I'm good with God. 00:11:41.00\00:11:44.60 I mean when you guys were living in this lifestyle, the partying, 00:11:44.63\00:11:46.94 you know all of that that you were doing at this particular 00:11:46.97\00:11:50.87 point in your life you saw no issue with it. In fact, ah, this 00:11:50.91\00:11:55.51 is a part of life, this is a part of our culture. This is 00:11:55.54\00:11:57.15 just what we do. But what was your...you mentioned going to 00:11:57.18\00:12:00.88 church on Sunday so what was your religious background like 00:12:00.92\00:12:03.72 growing up? 00:12:03.75\00:12:05.09 So I was raised Methodist and my grandfather was a Methodist 00:12:05.12\00:12:08.72 minister and Hilda... 00:12:08.76\00:12:11.79 I was raised in just about every protestant denomination. I went 00:12:11.83\00:12:17.10 to whatever church was closest to the house that I was living 00:12:17.13\00:12:20.40 in. My mom and dad were alcoholics and so we traveled to 00:12:20.44\00:12:26.94 Right whatever church was nearby 00:12:26.98\00:12:29.54 Okay and you know that's interesting because I saw this 00:12:29.58\00:12:32.28 years ago and it's kind of stuck with me and I present this in my 00:12:32.31\00:12:34.58 evangelistic series that one of the most popular reasons that 00:12:34.62\00:12:37.35 people choose a church is exactly that. Whatever church is 00:12:37.39\00:12:41.39 close by that's the church I'm going to attend. And so that was 00:12:41.42\00:12:44.83 that was basically the story for you and your family. But I 00:12:44.86\00:12:48.10 understand...Did your family also have an alcoholic 00:12:48.13\00:12:51.30 background or is that just hers or... 00:12:51.33\00:12:53.10 It was pretty much hers. My folks had gotten themselves 00:12:53.13\00:12:57.31 pretty much straight by the time I was born and raised. I was an 00:12:57.34\00:13:02.48 "old" child, a young man born by older parents. Mother was 41 00:13:02.51\00:13:07.32 years old when I was born. 00:13:07.35\00:13:08.68 Got you. So what was it like growing up in a Methodist home 00:13:08.72\00:13:11.75 in a Methodist upbringing as you got older I'm sure kind of 00:13:11.79\00:13:17.13 engulfed yourself into this party culture was there ever a 00:13:17.16\00:13:22.36 time that the family was like hey you probably shouldn't do 00:13:22.40\00:13:25.60 that, probably shouldn't drink, probably shouldn't be a part of 00:13:25.63\00:13:27.80 that or is it in that religious culture also just acceptable to 00:13:27.84\00:13:31.74 go along with the celebrations of Mardi Gras and the partying 00:13:31.77\00:13:35.48 and all that? 00:13:35.51\00:13:36.85 It's not really talked about a lot. We all know that we do that 00:13:36.88\00:13:41.68 I was talking to my father the other day and he was telling me 00:13:41.72\00:13:46.19 he's 95 years old. He was like you know I have been praying for 00:13:46.22\00:13:50.19 you for a very, very long time So understand that there is a 00:13:50.23\00:13:56.83 remnant that's out there in other churches and other 00:13:56.87\00:13:58.93 denominations. I just totally believe that, somebody needs to 00:13:58.97\00:14:06.37 hear this, that it's not okay. Just not right with God. 00:14:06.41\00:14:11.41 Right, absolutely, absolutely. So growing up in that religious 00:14:11.45\00:14:16.89 background, Methodism, because you said that's what you 00:14:16.92\00:14:19.42 primarily grew up in, Methodism, was the Bible heavily emphasized 00:14:19.45\00:14:24.06 or was it just, you just go to church, try to be as good as you 00:14:24.09\00:14:28.60 can. Like what was it like in your religious experience you 00:14:28.63\00:14:34.37 know growing up in a home of someone who you know was a part 00:14:34.40\00:14:37.41 of that Methodist movement? 00:14:37.44\00:14:38.97 Every Sunday we would go to church and we would do our one 00:14:39.01\00:14:42.31 hour worth of Sunday School time Then we would go into the 00:14:42.34\00:14:48.98 worship service and get our two scriptures for the day and we 00:14:49.02\00:14:51.85 were good. 00:14:51.89\00:14:53.62 All right, okay, so very traditional experience probably. 00:14:53.66\00:14:56.96 Was that similar to yours? Was the Bible emphasized at all in 00:14:56.99\00:15:00.53 your upbringing. Did your parents encourage you to read 00:15:00.56\00:15:03.37 the Bible your family your church or was it something that 00:15:03.40\00:15:07.14 you just kind of go through the motions and you know it's just 00:15:07.17\00:15:09.10 what you do. 00:15:09.14\00:15:10.97 Well the one consistent religious upbringing I had was 00:15:11.01\00:15:16.64 my grandmother, my MooMaw. She was primitive Baptist and so 00:15:16.68\00:15:21.65 that was the one church that I would drift back to and she 00:15:21.68\00:15:28.12 taught me the Bible as best as she could. But the other ones, 00:15:28.16\00:15:32.79 it was so confusing to go from Pentecostal to Baptist to 00:15:32.83\00:15:38.63 Methodist to you know Catholic to whatever but I started 00:15:38.67\00:15:46.07 reading the Bible. I told my mom I remember sitting in the chair 00:15:46.11\00:15:49.84 for church in the fifth grade and told Mama I want to read the 00:15:49.88\00:15:54.58 Bible. She was like well okay go ahead and do it. 00:15:54.62\00:15:59.85 That's amazing. So your story is maybe not exactly the same but 00:15:59.89\00:16:02.92 similar to mine because I grew up primarily Pentecostal but 00:16:02.96\00:16:06.36 then the Lord basically led me out of the Pentecostal church 00:16:06.39\00:16:09.46 and I started going to all these other different churches and 00:16:09.50\00:16:13.30 studying will all these different denominations. So 00:16:13.34\00:16:14.87 at any point in time when you were growing up in that 00:16:14.90\00:16:18.11 experience going from one church to the next did you ever even 00:16:18.14\00:16:21.58 think about maybe some of the differences or inconsistencies 00:16:21.61\00:16:25.55 that you were hearing or experiencing in the church or 00:16:25.58\00:16:29.85 were you just kind of oblivious to it? 00:16:29.88\00:16:31.22 I was kind of oblivious to it. I mean I was very confused by it. 00:16:31.25\00:16:34.82 Right right I got you. 00:16:34.86\00:16:36.19 She reminded me that her Grandmother, they would 00:16:36.22\00:16:41.36 literally take people down to the river and do a true baptism 00:16:41.40\00:16:43.37 in the river and they would do foot washing as well which was 00:16:43.40\00:16:48.04 totally like really different any experience I ever had. 00:16:48.07\00:16:52.67 So in the Methodist church they do any foot washing at all. 00:16:52.71\00:16:56.64 Not that I'm aware of. 00:16:56.68\00:16:58.78 Wow. Then you first-foot washing experience was probably in the 00:16:58.81\00:17:01.65 Adventist church. 00:17:01.68\00:17:03.02 Yes. 00:17:03.05\00:17:04.79 So what was that like for you? 00:17:04.82\00:17:06.15 What was your experience? Did it seem a little weird or were you 00:17:06.19\00:17:10.43 open arms about the experience. 00:17:10.46\00:17:11.79 I think I was pretty open-arms about it because of the words 00:17:11.83\00:17:15.90 that Hilda had told me about her grandmother and the little 00:17:15.93\00:17:19.10 following that we had as well. 00:17:19.13\00:17:21.27 Wow, that's amazing, that's amazing. So you guys were just 00:17:21.30\00:17:26.68 kind of living your life. You're a businessman, you're very very 00:17:26.71\00:17:31.88 successful in the insurance world and making a good living 00:17:31.91\00:17:38.12 probably considered yourself blessed. Obviously, you were 00:17:38.15\00:17:43.09 blessed by God. Probably thought at one time that maybe you were 00:17:43.12\00:17:46.16 doing all that you knew was right and the Lord's blessing me 00:17:46.19\00:17:48.86 And then a series of events unfolded a few years ago which 00:17:48.90\00:17:54.24 I guess a series of weather related events that was very, 00:17:54.27\00:17:59.94 very impactful to the Lake Charles area and the Louisiana 00:17:59.97\00:18:03.58 area. Let's kind of go back because we're leading up to when 00:18:03.61\00:18:07.65 you discovered this new found truth that changed your life. 00:18:07.68\00:18:11.92 Tell us how you got to that point and those weather events 00:18:11.95\00:18:16.22 that unfolded that led to this discovery. 00:18:16.26\00:18:19.49 So yeah, it started with Hurricane Laura and during Laura 00:18:19.53\00:18:25.17 the winds were just incredible. Hilda and I decided to actually 00:18:25.20\00:18:33.11 stay and weather the storm out. You know it's just another 00:18:33.14\00:18:36.51 hurricane. Tell us about this image that popped up. What are 00:18:36.54\00:18:38.48 looking at here. 00:18:38.51\00:18:40.12 Yeah you can see here on the graphics that this was the 00:18:40.15\00:18:42.78 recorded wind speeds by the weather service. It's kind of 00:18:42.82\00:18:48.19 notable to note like 10 miles offshore, you can see one of 00:18:48.22\00:18:51.19 buoys recorded 199 mile-an-hour winds. By the time it got to us 00:18:51.23\00:18:56.50 it kind of lightened down a little bit to 160 mile-an-hour 00:18:56.53\00:19:01.17 winds. 00:19:01.20\00:19:02.54 Just a little bit. Wow 160 miles per hour. It was an experience 00:19:02.57\00:19:07.81 that it makes you really cling to your faith at that point in 00:19:07.84\00:19:14.38 God and like what are we doing here?! 00:19:14.42\00:19:17.22 Right. So was there a mandatory evacuation during this time and 00:19:17.25\00:19:21.76 and you guys decided to stick it out, to ride it out. What's 00:19:21.79\00:19:24.09 going through your...I've always wanted to ask a person from 00:19:24.13\00:19:27.36 Louisiana because I hear that often. You know you guys are no 00:19:27.40\00:19:30.57 stranger to heavy, heavy hurricane-like weather. You know 00:19:30.60\00:19:37.74 us folk up here we hear stories of these people just stayed in 00:19:37.77\00:19:39.97 their home. They just road it out. Like what were they 00:19:40.01\00:19:42.78 thinking? So I just got to ask you when you know that that's 00:19:42.81\00:19:46.51 coming and you know they've already warned you, they've 00:19:46.55\00:19:49.88 already said get out of Dodge, get out of town and you make the 00:19:49.92\00:19:54.22 decision we're going to ride it out. What's going through your 00:19:54.26\00:19:55.76 mind at that moment that brought you to the decision to say, Aah 00:19:55.79\00:19:58.89 let's just see what happens and ride it out. 00:19:58.93\00:20:02.33 So a lot that had to deal with her father. We were caretaking 00:20:02.36\00:20:06.30 for him. He was 85 years old at the time and he just didn't want 00:20:06.33\00:20:13.14 to leave. And so it's kind of hard to push somebody out who's 00:20:13.17\00:20:19.68 dug in their heels, right? 00:20:19.71\00:20:21.05 Yeah you're not going to hog tie him and throw him in the 00:20:21.08\00:20:22.42 vehicle. 00:20:22.45\00:20:23.79 It's not going to happen. We stayed and we had plan A, plan B 00:20:23.82\00:20:27.49 and plan C. Plan A was we just ride it out and watch a nice 00:20:27.52\00:20:30.46 little storm go by. Plan B was there's supposed to be a 20-foot 00:20:30.49\00:20:37.77 tidal surge. So we took the boat to the house and tied the boat 00:20:37.80\00:20:40.17 to the house so that it wouldn't float off in case we needed to 00:20:40.20\00:20:43.30 get in it. 00:20:43.34\00:20:44.67 Jump in the boat and ride it out another way. (Yep) Wow! 00:20:44.71\00:20:47.14 Plan C was wait on the helicopters to come get us, I 00:20:47.18\00:20:50.28 guess. There was no plan C. [chuckles] 00:20:50.31\00:20:54.75 Again this is before kind of your religious awakening. (Yes) 00:20:54.78\00:20:57.95 At this time were the type of folk that would offer up prayers 00:20:57.99\00:21:01.82 and say, God, you know, get us through this? 00:21:01.86\00:21:03.99 That would have been the time with the tree hit the house. 00:21:04.03\00:21:08.26 (Wow) The neighbor's tree hit the house and then... 00:21:08.30\00:21:12.23 Look at that! My goodness. 00:21:12.27\00:21:15.20 She's on Coumadin do we put her in the closet with my motorcycle 00:21:15.24\00:21:18.97 helmet on. 00:21:19.01\00:21:20.34 Is that what we're looking at here? 00:21:20.38\00:21:21.71 That's what we're looking at. That's where the neighbor's tree 00:21:21.74\00:21:23.08 hit the house and it was quite an experience. That's when you 00:21:23.11\00:21:29.12 get on your knees and say okay, God... 00:21:29.15\00:21:31.12 Okay, God if you're up there are you listening? 00:21:31.15\00:21:32.69 Please send your angels here for protection. But I think God 00:21:32.72\00:21:37.46 announced seven days earlier that this might be coming our 00:21:37.49\00:21:39.26 way so we just didn't heed the warnings. 00:21:39.29\00:21:42.46 But you have to understand at this time we think we're right 00:21:42.50\00:21:44.83 with God. We truly think we're right with God. We'd been 00:21:44.87\00:21:50.74 attending Methodist church since we got married and we were youth 00:21:50.77\00:21:54.38 directors in the church. It was just... 00:21:54.41\00:22:00.05 You know not to bring correction or anything but I think in those 00:22:00.08\00:22:03.99 moments when you're living up to all the light that you know 00:22:04.02\00:22:06.72 I think we can say that yeah you were right with God in all that 00:22:06.76\00:22:11.23 you knew to be at the time. 00:22:11.26\00:22:12.59 Yes, we knew that. 00:22:12.63\00:22:13.96 Because I remember a time when my family and I were not...you 00:22:14.00\00:22:17.83 know we didn't know anything about this truth and about the 00:22:17.87\00:22:19.20 Sabbath, the keeping of the Law and all these amazing truths 00:22:19.23\00:22:21.80 that enlightened and enhanced our Christian experience when we 00:22:21.84\00:22:24.47 were living up to all the light that we knew at that time. So 00:22:24.51\00:22:27.08 you guys were just doing your best with the knowledge that you 00:22:27.11\00:22:29.98 had and you're having to ride out this storm. Now Laura has 00:22:30.01\00:22:36.12 happened the aftermath of Laura. Take us from there. 00:22:36.15\00:22:38.39 So then we had a tropical storm come past about maybe a month 00:22:38.42\00:22:43.63 later. The good news in that was I was able to get one of my 00:22:43.66\00:22:47.40 grounded boats off the land. It was only 15 feet up on land 00:22:47.43\00:22:52.50 so we got it off land. We had nine-foot tidal surge during 00:22:52.53\00:22:55.54 little storm. A month or so later Hurricane Delta comes 00:22:55.57\00:23:01.11 along and then after that, we had a freeze. Unprecedented! The 00:23:01.14\00:23:06.31 whole south was under a freeze. All the way down to Brownsville, 00:23:06.35\00:23:09.82 Texas. We had pipes frozen, we had electric lines down... 00:23:09.85\00:23:16.19 And this is a big deal for Louisiana? 00:23:16.22\00:23:17.56 Oh, it's huge. 00:23:17.59\00:23:18.93 Huge. I know that some of our viewers that are watching right 00:23:18.96\00:23:21.43 now, look at that picture! I'm not about making fun at all. 00:23:21.46\00:23:27.14 I'm just saying I have been in Louisiana when there was icy 00:23:27.17\00:23:30.84 weather. Years ago we were conducting an evangelistic 00:23:30.87\00:23:33.81 series in Baton Rouge and the temperatures dipped below 00:23:33.84\00:23:36.18 freezing and they got a little bit of sleet, some ice, which to 00:23:36.21\00:23:38.88 me was nothing because I grew up in Arkansas where we would 00:23:38.91\00:23:42.18 get that every winter. You know in northeastern Arkansas we get 00:23:42.22\00:23:46.05 that every winter and the people of Louisiana about lost their 00:23:46.09\00:23:49.62 minds at this little bit of ice. All of the roads shut down, you 00:23:49.66\00:23:52.69 couldn't travel across the bridges and that's a big thing 00:23:52.73\00:23:55.50 for Louisiana because every so many feet it seems like there's 00:23:55.53\00:23:57.67 a bridge. But for you guys this freezing weather to hit the 00:23:57.70\00:24:02.47 area in the way that it did is extremely a big deal because 00:24:02.50\00:24:07.21 it's very, very rare weather to be that far south in America. 00:24:07.24\00:24:14.52 And that many days. We were four days without power or water. It 00:24:14.55\00:24:21.62 was just a mess. 00:24:21.66\00:24:22.99 Everything shuts down. The governmental buildings shut down 00:24:23.02\00:24:25.93 the roads shut down, everything shuts down because we're just 00:24:25.96\00:24:30.57 not used to driving in it. 00:24:30.60\00:24:32.87 Yeah, your road systems, the crews and all that, they're not 00:24:32.90\00:24:37.07 used to having to deal with that kind of thing. Again my friends 00:24:37.11\00:24:40.28 up north in like Minnesota and Michigan are watching this, hey 00:24:40.31\00:24:44.31 that's nothing. We get like 16 feet of snow and we're okay the 00:24:44.35\00:24:47.58 next day. But for Louisiana it's a very, very big deal. 00:24:47.62\00:24:51.32 We don't even have plane deicers, just not necessary. 00:24:51.35\00:24:56.62 That's amazing. Okay. So you had this hurricane Laura, then you 00:24:56.66\00:25:00.20 have this tropical storm and then Hurricane Delta, my 00:25:00.23\00:25:05.97 goodness, and then the freeze okay... 00:25:06.00\00:25:09.27 And then we had a flood. (Wow man!) The flood covered the 00:25:09.30\00:25:12.94 entire city. We had 17 inches of rain all within a 24-hour period 00:25:12.97\00:25:18.05 I believe it was and then right behind that, we had a tornado. 00:25:18.08\00:25:23.05 So a lot of natural disasters in Lake Charles, Louisiana. 00:25:23.08\00:25:27.99 That's amazing, that's amazing. So then through this God uses 00:25:28.02\00:25:35.83 this very interesting series of events kind of allow the light 00:25:35.86\00:25:44.74 bulb to go out in your mind, go off not out. But allow the light 00:25:44.77\00:25:48.61 bulb to go off in your mind. You said, you were telling me that 00:25:48.64\00:25:52.41 you read the Bible every day or at least a proverb every day 00:25:52.45\00:25:56.22 but you read 00:25:56.25\00:25:57.99 this particular proverb so take us from there. So all of this 00:25:58.02\00:26:00.86 weather is going on, you're reading your Bible. Then 00:26:00.89\00:26:03.76 what happens? 00:26:03.79\00:26:05.56 So I took the 10 commandments and put them up behind my 00:26:05.59\00:26:09.83 computer monitor. That was like I need some inspiration here. 00:26:09.86\00:26:14.70 And I knew that God was going to take us through this. It was 00:26:14.74\00:26:21.24 just a matter of time. We'd been through many hurricanes before 00:26:21.28\00:26:23.75 And so I was reading a Proverb a day and then I think it's in the 00:26:23.78\00:26:30.85 first proverb, I think it's verse seven and it says the fear 00:26:30.89\00:26:35.09 of the Lord is where wisdom begins. It's almost like okay 00:26:35.12\00:26:40.33 if I want to be more wise about God okay maybe I should start 00:26:40.36\00:26:44.57 reading a little bit more than proverbs. 00:26:44.60\00:26:46.37 Right what does it mean to fear him? 00:26:46.40\00:26:48.07 So what did I do? I of course pulled out the old search engine 00:26:48.10\00:26:53.31 on the computer. Okay "fear of God" right? And the first thing 00:26:53.34\00:26:58.05 that pops up is Doug Bachelor Amazing Facts. I'm like well 00:26:58.08\00:27:03.08 this is intriguing. Because as a youth minister, I used to teach 00:27:03.12\00:27:07.92 Revelation. Okay. But as I have now learned my version of the 00:27:07.96\00:27:12.99 Revelation of Jesus Christ is a tad bit different than what the 00:27:13.03\00:27:16.33 Bible actually teaches us. 00:27:16.36\00:27:18.43 Right and this was in the Methodist church. (Yes) okay 00:27:18.47\00:27:20.50 All right. 00:27:20.54\00:27:22.54 And so from there, that led me to 3ABN and at that point they 00:27:22.57\00:27:31.31 were still down in I think Lockport, Louisiana and it had 00:27:31.35\00:27:37.65 been three months since they'd been back to Lake Charles 00:27:37.69\00:27:39.52 because there was literally nothing there, no food, no 00:27:39.55\00:27:43.89 nothing. And when I fin... 00:27:43.93\00:27:45.26 So I'm sorry to interrupt you so you had went away with your 00:27:45.29\00:27:48.86 father to Lockport. 00:27:48.90\00:27:50.47 To my eldest son's house. 00:27:50.50\00:27:52.77 To kind of get away from all of this bad weather that had 00:27:52.80\00:27:55.24 went on. 00:27:55.27\00:27:57.21 There was no electricity and my father was in bad health. 00:27:57.24\00:28:00.71 Okay, so you guys needed obviously, electricity to be 00:28:00.74\00:28:03.65 able to tend his health needs. So you were back in (Lake 00:28:03.68\00:28:07.65 Charles) Lake Charles by yourself for three months trying 00:28:07.68\00:28:11.65 to ride out all of this and I guess for the flooding and all 00:28:11.69\00:28:15.62 that stuff to go down and the power to come back on and... 00:28:15.66\00:28:18.63 Me and six other claims adjusters. 00:28:18.66\00:28:20.30 Oh wow. Okay, so then you're studying your Bible. You come 00:28:20.33\00:28:23.06 in contact with 3ABN and then now you reach out to her. Take 00:28:23.10\00:28:26.63 us from there. 00:28:26.67\00:28:28.10 I said you have got to see this. This is so cool. This is the 00:28:28.14\00:28:34.31 missing piece. It's like...what was your first reaction. 00:28:34.34\00:28:40.12 Well when he first showed me he showed me Amazing Facts with 00:28:40.15\00:28:43.95 Doug Bachelor first. And I was like wow yes that's it. And 00:28:43.99\00:28:51.29 then he showed me 3ABN and it was just an awakening. I was 00:28:51.33\00:28:58.90 like all the things that I had read in the Bible and I accepted 00:28:58.93\00:29:02.94 as truth, I was allowed to accept the Bible as truth and 00:29:02.97\00:29:09.78 not listen to all the things that had been told to me by the 00:29:09.81\00:29:15.35 different denominations. 00:29:15.38\00:29:18.25 That's it, that's it. Right what you're saying. It's all flooding 00:29:18.29\00:29:20.06 back to even my own experience because before I had accepted 00:29:20.09\00:29:24.86 this truth within the culture... Again you and I have a very 00:29:24.89\00:29:31.00 similar background going to all these different churches there 00:29:31.03\00:29:32.87 tends to be a culture that teaches you what to believe 00:29:32.90\00:29:36.74 rather than to study for yourself. And I could say that 00:29:36.77\00:29:42.18 this probably very much even within Methodism as well is that 00:29:42.21\00:29:44.05 you know the pastor, he went to seminary. That's the pastor, 00:29:44.08\00:29:48.45 he's the man of God and whatever he says God you know must be 00:29:48.48\00:29:51.95 what's the truth and you just kind of accept it. There's not 00:29:51.99\00:29:55.09 this heavy emphasis on actually pick up the Bible and study it 00:29:55.12\00:29:58.99 and read it for yourself to learn these things to make sure 00:29:59.03\00:30:02.33 that's what's being taught to you is the truth. And that's the 00:30:02.36\00:30:05.17 same experience that I had. So that's what you were 00:30:05.20\00:30:07.84 experiencing and then you guys find Amazing Facts, 3ABN, and 00:30:07.87\00:30:12.74 now the Bible's starting to make sense to you. Okay what happens 00:30:12.77\00:30:17.05 next? 00:30:17.08\00:30:18.55 So then I say there's got to be one of these churches around 00:30:18.58\00:30:22.18 here that teaches this truth. 00:30:22.22\00:30:26.59 And we find one. You know we Google it again, find one 00:30:26.62\00:30:32.49 that's local and I finally tell Dean, I'm going to church 00:30:32.53\00:30:36.46 whether you're going or not. And we hooked up with a church. And 00:30:36.50\00:30:42.27 then it's a little church but you would not believe even the 00:30:42.30\00:30:48.61 pastor that we've gone several people have come to the church 00:30:48.64\00:30:53.38 through 3ABN and Amazing Facts. 00:30:53.42\00:30:55.92 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord So I just got to ask you guys 00:30:55.95\00:30:59.49 when you're watching 3ABN, Amazing Facts and you're 00:30:59.52\00:31:05.63 studying along for yourself for the first time. You're actually 00:31:05.66\00:31:08.16 reading it, you're studying what were some of these truths. Were 00:31:08.20\00:31:11.50 there any challenging truths to accept in the beginning or did 00:31:11.53\00:31:15.70 it just seem to be easy for you like you just accepted it or 00:31:15.74\00:31:18.34 in the beginning, it was kind of aah-aah I don't know about this 00:31:18.37\00:31:20.48 one but you had to study it. What was your journey like 00:31:20.51\00:31:24.95 learning all of these individual biblical teachings. 00:31:24.98\00:31:27.95 For me, it was easy because I had read it and it was a 00:31:27.98\00:31:33.82 confirmation and so it was like a relief and I was just yes! I 00:31:33.86\00:31:40.83 can believe that. 00:31:40.86\00:31:42.40 Right because you can see it. It's right there. What about you 00:31:42.43\00:31:45.97 Dean. When you're learning all of this stuff what was your 00:31:46.00\00:31:48.17 experience? 00:31:48.20\00:31:49.80 For me, it was the food. 00:31:49.84\00:31:51.31 Now right there. I got to stop you right there. The food, you 00:31:51.34\00:31:59.65 folks at home you have to understand in Louisiana this is 00:31:59.68\00:32:03.12 the epicenter this is the heart of seafood. And I remember 00:32:03.15\00:32:07.89 years ago my very, very first evangelistic series that I ever 00:32:07.92\00:32:11.63 preached was in Lafayette, Louisiana. And I remember, you 00:32:11.66\00:32:15.43 know I had to get to that message where we talked about 00:32:15.46\00:32:17.97 you know what the Bible teaches about you know diet and how God 00:32:18.00\00:32:21.60 has created some meats that are clean for us to eat and there's 00:32:21.64\00:32:24.77 others that animal flesh and animal products that we are 00:32:24.81\00:32:28.44 not to eat because you know it's not clean for us to eat. And I 00:32:28.48\00:32:32.81 remember that even that very night I had some of the locals 00:32:32.85\00:32:36.12 coming in and you could smell the last thing they cooked. This 00:32:36.15\00:32:40.79 was a nightly smell because the culture there loves the crawfish 00:32:40.82\00:32:44.69 Crawfish is huge there, crawfish and lobster and crab and catfish 00:32:44.73\00:32:50.17 and cracklings and shrimp, _ I mean jambalaya. You don't make 00:32:50.20\00:32:57.51 a jambalaya unless it has some type of pork you know. So you're 00:32:57.54\00:33:00.68 talking about like a huge culture that is saturated in the 00:33:00.71\00:33:05.71 delicacies that they consider to be the best of the best or the 00:33:05.75\00:33:08.82 very foods that God says don't eat. Stay away from it. And so I 00:33:08.85\00:33:13.52 just have to ask you when you're learning this truth and you hear 00:33:13.56\00:33:18.09 this message what was your first thoughts when you learned about 00:33:18.13\00:33:21.36 that? 00:33:21.40\00:33:24.07 I just was in total shock. I'm not going to lie because I cook 00:33:24.10\00:33:30.67 a lot for my family and it just meant, well we will just have to 00:33:30.71\00:33:34.18 change I guess. 00:33:34.21\00:33:36.68 Yeah, I love that attitude though. I mean when the Holy 00:33:36.71\00:33:38.71 Spirit's leading you. You know, you may not like it at first. I 00:33:38.75\00:33:45.12 remember for me it was shrimp you know. I could care less 00:33:45.15\00:33:46.72 about the pork and some...but for me, shrimp was a big one 00:33:46.76\00:33:49.96 because I grew up my grandpa owned and ran one of the most 00:33:49.99\00:33:56.10 successful seafood restaurants in southern Missouri and so I 00:33:56.13\00:33:59.63 grew up and went every summer and helping with the restaurant 00:33:59.67\00:34:01.57 and so I grew up on these type of foods, catfish and shrimp and 00:34:01.60\00:34:06.44 clams and all these other things and to me, it was shrimp so I 00:34:06.47\00:34:09.34 totally get...in the beginning when you first hear it its kind 00:34:09.38\00:34:11.61 of Noooo. You almost want to belt out Why God? Why would you 00:34:11.65\00:34:16.55 take that from me. But yet at the end of the day He knows 00:34:16.58\00:34:18.89 what's best, right? And so you're being led by the Holy 00:34:18.92\00:34:21.92 Spirit you're going to have that response. You know yes Lord I 00:34:21.96\00:34:25.49 see what you're saying and I'm going to do my best to bring my 00:34:25.53\00:34:27.93 life in harmony with that. 00:34:27.96\00:34:29.30 As far as what he was cooking I was like we're not supposed to 00:34:29.33\00:34:32.93 have that. And he's like I'm getting it out of the freezer. 00:34:32.97\00:34:36.20 I got to get it out of the freezer, you rebel. Wow man so 00:34:36.24\00:34:40.44 you guys are hearing all of these amazing truths but the 00:34:40.48\00:34:43.55 food, the dietary requirements that God gives us was kind of a 00:34:43.58\00:34:48.42 big challenge at first. What about I mean when you hear about 00:34:48.45\00:34:51.75 the Sabbath though, when you first heard...you know going to 00:34:51.79\00:34:54.69 church on Sunday all your life being in the Methodist church 00:34:54.72\00:34:57.96 you know Pentecostal Church, Baptist Church all the different 00:34:57.99\00:35:00.70 churches you were attending what comes to your mind when you 00:35:00.73\00:35:03.26 learn you know that Saturday is the seventh day and it's the 00:35:03.30\00:35:06.70 true Biblical Sabbath. 00:35:06.74\00:35:08.77 Well I had told you that I started reading the Bible when I 00:35:08.80\00:35:11.44 was in the fifth grade on my own I noticed that the Sabbath was 00:35:11.47\00:35:17.51 on a Saturday. And so when I was in fifth grade I was like but it 00:35:17.55\00:35:24.65 says the Sabbath and the Sabbath is a Saturday. But the churches 00:35:24.69\00:35:29.69 were teaching the Sunday. And so when I finally got that truth 00:35:29.72\00:35:39.07 it was like I was right when I was in the fifth grade! 00:35:39.10\00:35:43.77 Amazing. It is amazing how clear God's word is and I've heard so 00:35:43.81\00:35:48.91 many people tell me a similar story to that one. Oh yeah I 00:35:48.94\00:35:51.61 read this years ago and I thought to myself well why, why 00:35:51.65\00:35:54.95 don't we observe or attend church on Saturday rather than 00:35:54.98\00:35:58.25 Sunday? And then years later they'll learn it again and think 00:35:58.29\00:36:02.42 oh yeah I remember thinking that way back then. 00:36:02.46\00:36:04.46 Exactly. 00:36:04.49\00:36:05.83 Yeah you know I was just the opposite. I never even thought 00:36:05.86\00:36:07.46 about it because the culture I grew up in it was like ay 00:36:07.50\00:36:10.97 Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, who cares? 00:36:11.00\00:36:12.33 Until you learn the truth and you realize well this is what 00:36:12.37\00:36:15.17 God requires and it's never been changed and this is the truth. 00:36:15.20\00:36:18.77 And we need to bring our lives in harmony with that. What about 00:36:18.81\00:36:22.34 you? Being an insurance guy did you have the freedom to change 00:36:22.38\00:36:29.68 you know. I know a lot of business is done on Fridays and 00:36:29.72\00:36:33.66 Saturdays in the insurance business so I didn't know if you 00:36:33.69\00:36:36.89 were retired at this time or if you were still involved in this 00:36:36.93\00:36:39.96 or not. How did that affect your life in making that change from 00:36:40.00\00:36:42.50 Sunday to Saturday? 00:36:42.53\00:36:45.07 So I was supposed to be retired but then I took full-time 00:36:45.10\00:36:49.10 employment with a local university. Isn't God good? All 00:36:49.14\00:36:53.78 of a sudden my work schedule is now Monday through Thursday, 00:36:53.81\00:36:58.41 Friday till noon. 00:36:58.45\00:36:59.78 That is amazing, brother, that's amazing! So when you learn and 00:36:59.81\00:37:01.82 accept this truth it's almost like God began to open doors and 00:37:01.85\00:37:05.19 bless you, to be able to bring your life... 00:37:05.22\00:37:07.42 It's all about trusting in what's right for you and your 00:37:07.46\00:37:10.19 family. And for the partying we talked about earlier, it was 00:37:10.23\00:37:15.66 easy for me to just walk away. Most people say well you know 00:37:15.70\00:37:20.57 don't you crave that? No, I really don't. I just walked away 00:37:20.60\00:37:24.17 That's amazing, wow. 00:37:24.21\00:37:25.84 His partying, that is something for years that has weighed upon 00:37:25.87\00:37:32.71 me and I prayed about it a lot and I cried about it a lot. And 00:37:32.75\00:37:43.43 so when he quit drinking it was just a stop and it was such an 00:37:43.46\00:37:50.67 answer to prayer. 00:37:50.70\00:37:52.03 That's amazing. I actually think we have a couple of pictures 00:37:52.07\00:37:55.10 that kind of shows just how involved you guys were with you 00:37:55.14\00:38:00.71 know the partying and celebration especially during 00:38:00.74\00:38:02.48 Mardi Gras. If we can pull up those images and show what you 00:38:02.51\00:38:07.52 you guys looked like. So what's happening here. What's in this 00:38:07.55\00:38:09.65 picture. 00:38:09.68\00:38:11.02 This is a photo release, a press release showing us as king and 00:38:11.05\00:38:14.82 queen of that particular year. 00:38:14.86\00:38:16.49 That was our first king and queen shot. 00:38:16.52\00:38:19.03 That's amazing and there's another image. Oh my goodness! 00:38:19.06\00:38:22.46 Ha! So what is this? What are we seeing here? 00:38:22.50\00:38:24.77 This is where all of the crews would get together and they 00:38:24.80\00:38:28.24 would parade their kings and queens through their colosseum 00:38:28.27\00:38:32.04 Wow! Man that's amazing! So you guys weren't just attending. You 00:38:32.07\00:38:38.35 were very much involved in even. I guess you were voted. Is this 00:38:38.38\00:38:42.92 something you were voted or you had to meet some kind of 00:38:42.95\00:38:44.82 requirements, how do you get... and again to us at home watching 00:38:44.85\00:38:51.06 this and it's like ah it's nice but in this particular culture 00:38:51.09\00:38:53.93 that's a big deal for you to be selected or to be elevated into 00:38:53.96\00:38:59.23 such an honorary position as Queen and King of Mardi Gras. 00:38:59.27\00:39:03.07 That's a major deal in your community. 00:39:03.10\00:39:05.17 Right. So yes we were nominated to be that and we were very very 00:39:05.21\00:39:13.18 involved in it and thousands of dollars wasted. (Wasted) Just 00:39:13.21\00:39:18.65 wasted. But hey, we had a great time. 00:39:18.69\00:39:23.22 That's amazing, praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. So you guys 00:39:23.26\00:39:26.23 when you learned this truth you know watching Amazing Facts, 00:39:26.26\00:39:30.07 you're watching 3ABN, you're studying your Bible, you're 00:39:30.10\00:39:36.14 making these decisions to change your life and try to bring your 00:39:36.17\00:39:39.24 life into more of a harmony with what God's will has expressed in 00:39:39.27\00:39:44.45 His word. Did you have any... How did your family, your 00:39:44.48\00:39:47.58 friends...they had to have taken a notice that Dean and Hilda are 00:39:47.62\00:39:53.66 not the same Dean and Hilda and it seems like they've kind of 00:39:53.69\00:39:57.13 jumped on some religious band wagon that's a little different 00:39:57.16\00:40:00.10 So what was the response from your friends and family members 00:40:00.13\00:40:02.76 around you. 00:40:02.80\00:40:05.67 So I told my...we have a little Bible study group. Elder Malcolm 00:40:05.70\00:40:10.94 and his wife Darla and Janice. We all get together on Monday 00:40:10.97\00:40:15.84 It's amazing you brought this fact up. I told them last Monday 00:40:15.88\00:40:19.85 when we were studying Bible, I said I literally have no friends 00:40:19.88\00:40:24.12 left of my prior engagements. They've literally gone their own 00:40:24.15\00:40:31.16 way and that's okay but my Bible study group said we'll be your 00:40:31.19\00:40:36.53 friends. I said okay. I'll accept that. 00:40:36.56\00:40:39.80 That's got to be hard, I mean... and I know that's probably one 00:40:39.83\00:40:43.91 of the most challenging aspects of making a transition from not 00:40:43.94\00:40:50.15 really living for God to trying to live for Him. Trying to bring 00:40:50.18\00:40:57.19 your life into more of a harmony with His will. I find that I've 00:40:57.22\00:41:01.42 given many Bible studies, I've been to many evangelistic series 00:41:01.46\00:41:04.33 I've preached in many evangelistic series and that 00:41:04.36\00:41:07.73 seems to be one of the greatest challenges because when people 00:41:07.76\00:41:10.83 are adopting this truth what comes to my mind is the parable 00:41:10.87\00:41:14.94 of the sower Jesus told; how some people receive that seed, 00:41:14.97\00:41:18.87 that word and at first they're joyed to receive it, they're 00:41:18.91\00:41:21.91 excited about it but then something comes along whether it 00:41:21.94\00:41:26.98 be the devil, whether it be outside influences, whether it 00:41:27.02\00:41:29.38 be the cares of this world or the cares of this life, it 00:41:29.42\00:41:32.32 somehow comes in and seems to choke out the powerful influence 00:41:32.35\00:41:37.09 of that word because of the individual's personal desires or 00:41:37.13\00:41:40.20 their response to the negative pressures that come from outside 00:41:40.23\00:41:45.40 In this case, maybe it's friends, maybe it's family 00:41:45.43\00:41:49.57 members, and to hear you say you know I once had all these 00:41:49.60\00:41:52.87 friends but I don't have them anymore but to continue on that 00:41:52.91\00:41:55.58 path. That's a powerful thing because many people...I've met a 00:41:55.61\00:41:59.81 lot of people that's a very difficult challenging situation 00:41:59.85\00:42:02.85 to have to give up their friends. You know it's hard for 00:42:02.88\00:42:08.26 people to make that adjustment in their life. 00:42:08.29\00:42:10.36 And it's so easy to get back in. (Yes, yes) you know. Getting out 00:42:10.39\00:42:15.66 is the most difficult part. Boy to get back in would be just 00:42:15.70\00:42:21.57 easy. I don't want to do that no more. I realize now and I was 00:42:21.60\00:42:29.41 telling Hilda this last night that it's very important to make 00:42:29.44\00:42:35.68 an eternal decision. And my friends, you need to make that 00:42:35.72\00:42:40.56 decision today. Where are you going to spend your eternity? 00:42:40.59\00:42:44.09 I've made my decision. 00:42:44.13\00:42:48.20 That's amazing, that's amazing. So since you guys have received 00:42:48.23\00:42:53.34 and brought your lives in harmony, I'm sure you're still 00:42:53.37\00:42:56.81 learning but you know from that conversion experience what has 00:42:56.84\00:43:03.11 God led you to do since then? What are you involved in? What 00:43:03.14\00:43:08.78 other avenues has the Lord opened the doors since then. 00:43:08.82\00:43:15.19 I'm trying to bring our small church up into the new 00:43:15.22\00:43:20.10 technology that's available. We have a website. 00:43:20.13\00:43:24.13 Okay, you got a website. So the Lord is using you to help work 00:43:24.17\00:43:27.77 in your local church to bring your church up to technological 00:43:27.80\00:43:33.41 advancements. 00:43:33.44\00:43:34.78 And I would like to be able to help them publish their services 00:43:34.81\00:43:37.91 online. Our church tends to be a little bit elderly so those 00:43:37.95\00:43:44.09 people would at least have the capacity to be in Sabbath 00:43:44.12\00:43:49.12 worship with us. 00:43:49.16\00:43:51.89 Got you, got you. Amen. 00:43:51.93\00:43:55.03 We attend...we went from doing nothing to attending the prayer 00:43:55.06\00:44:00.57 service on Wednesday. We do a Bible study on Monday night. 00:44:00.60\00:44:04.44 We do the Sabbath School. We do Sabbath School with y'all 00:44:04.47\00:44:09.78 throughout the week and then we do Sabbath School on Saturday 00:44:09.81\00:44:13.01 morning. We really enjoy it. And then I found out through 3ABN 00:44:13.05\00:44:18.09 Today about the school of discipleship which I really want 00:44:18.12\00:44:21.89 to go to. 00:44:21.92\00:44:23.56 Yeah, all right. So basically... so you guys are continuing your 00:44:23.59\00:44:28.23 learning and growing experience. And you know you want to attend 00:44:28.26\00:44:31.37 the School of Discipleship, you're helping your local church 00:44:31.40\00:44:33.50 Guys I just want to say at home you know this is powerful to 00:44:33.54\00:44:37.01 hear because some people might look at this, well that's small 00:44:37.04\00:44:40.44 stuff. But it's the smaller things that lead to even greater 00:44:40.48\00:44:43.71 things and I can very much relate to you because I remember 00:44:43.75\00:44:47.52 when I first made the decision to transfer from where I once 00:44:47.55\00:44:51.72 was in the Sunday-keeping church to a Sabbath-keeping church. You 00:44:51.75\00:44:55.19 God will find a way for you to work and to serve in a capacity 00:44:55.22\00:44:59.29 that blesses you and will bless others. He will open up those 00:44:59.33\00:45:03.93 doors and it seems like the Lord is going to be using you guys to 00:45:03.97\00:45:06.84 do that in your local church as well. You know I have to just 00:45:06.87\00:45:11.17 ask when you were...again kind of back to the family and the 00:45:11.21\00:45:15.01 friends in the community. You know being a businessman I'm 00:45:15.04\00:45:18.08 sure you made a lot of connections with people in your 00:45:18.11\00:45:22.02 community. A lot of people that knew you, knew the old Dean and 00:45:22.05\00:45:26.25 how you used to be. What were some of the responses that you 00:45:26.29\00:45:29.42 got from them. You know I'm sure you've received many a party 00:45:29.46\00:45:34.00 invitation, many a Mardi Gras invitation, come over, and let's 00:45:34.03\00:45:38.03 have a beer invitation or whatever. So how do you now 00:45:38.07\00:45:42.10 address those situations when they're presented to you? 00:45:42.14\00:45:46.37 Well it is noticeable and one of our crews has their Mardi Gras 00:45:46.41\00:45:53.31 celebrations on Friday night. And Hilda and I actually were 00:45:53.35\00:45:58.69 founding members of this crew. We started this crew. And this 00:45:58.72\00:46:02.69 was the first year that we did not attend and it was very 00:46:02.72\00:46:06.70 noticeable that we didn't attend So people would ask us and so we 00:46:06.73\00:46:10.47 would just tell them, we're just not going to do that anymore. 00:46:10.50\00:46:13.20 Mm-hmm. Wow, that's amazing. 00:46:16.04\00:46:17.37 We're going to be Sabbath keepers. We're going to follow 00:46:17.41\00:46:19.64 the 10 commandments and we're going to give the testimony of 00:46:19.67\00:46:23.21 Jesus Christ. 00:46:23.24\00:46:24.98 I love that brother. That's powerful, that's powerful. Hilda 00:46:25.01\00:46:28.05 when you...I don't think I ever heard from you on this. So your 00:46:28.08\00:46:33.29 family and friends and people that you knew. When they found 00:46:33.32\00:46:35.16 out that you were making and had made that transition from your 00:46:35.19\00:46:40.70 previous beliefs, your previous lifestyle to what you are now, 00:46:40.73\00:46:44.47 did you receive any negative feedback or was it all positive 00:46:44.50\00:46:48.60 What was your experience with that? 00:46:48.64\00:46:50.81 Mutual growth. I didn't have the type friends that Dean had. 00:46:50.84\00:47:00.65 They just kind of accepted but it's not been necessarily 00:47:00.68\00:47:06.39 positive. My thing is that I feel that I had been taught 00:47:06.42\00:47:16.83 wrong all these years and I think, why was I taught wrong? 00:47:16.87\00:47:21.67 And then I realized it was out of ignorance and it was out of 00:47:21.70\00:47:27.08 ignorance that I taught my children wrong and so I feel so 00:47:27.11\00:47:32.05 bad about doing that. But it's things like 3ABN and Amazing 00:47:32.08\00:47:38.59 Facts that are getting the word out and it's doing it globally, 00:47:38.62\00:47:46.03 it's doing it nationally and for that I'm grateful. 00:47:46.06\00:47:50.37 Amen, amen, praise the Lord. You know I just want to address 00:47:50.40\00:47:53.34 what you just said because you will naturally feel bad when you 00:47:53.37\00:47:58.47 come to that understanding of man I could have known and I 00:47:58.51\00:48:02.58 didn't know. I could have been sharing the truth but I didn't 00:48:02.61\00:48:06.65 know what I was sharing things or maybe influencing others to 00:48:06.68\00:48:10.69 believe things that was not entirely true. But I think there 00:48:10.72\00:48:15.46 is a difference between willful ignorance and just the general 00:48:15.49\00:48:21.03 ignorance of just not knowing. Me and my family were not 00:48:21.06\00:48:24.93 necessarily willfully ignorant in the sense that we were 00:48:24.97\00:48:29.44 rejecting truth. You guys I don't think were rejecting truth 00:48:29.47\00:48:31.47 you didn't know. And I think that's where the truth of James 00:48:31.51\00:48:34.68 chapter 4 verse 17 comes in which says that he that knows to 00:48:34.71\00:48:37.98 do good and does it not to him it is a sin. There's some people 00:48:38.01\00:48:42.18 out there so that they can know the truth. They would know the 00:48:42.22\00:48:48.32 truth and they would actually take the time to study it, they 00:48:48.36\00:48:49.69 would take the time to learn and take the time they can share 00:48:49.72\00:48:52.43 that with others and there's those people that could know 00:48:52.46\00:48:55.73 that but they make the conscious choice to not want to know that. 00:48:55.76\00:48:59.53 In other words, they make the decision to not study, to not 00:48:59.57\00:49:03.10 dig, to not share those things that they know with others for 00:49:03.14\00:49:06.31 whatever reason and I think that's a dangerous thing. But 00:49:06.34\00:49:09.11 there's people like you, people like me, who we were just 00:49:09.14\00:49:13.62 walking kind of in a dark state before not really knowing until 00:49:13.65\00:49:18.65 the light came and when we saw the light then that change came 00:49:18.69\00:49:21.72 and I think that's what's important is when the light 00:49:21.76\00:49:23.79 comes my friends you know walk into the light, walk in the 00:49:23.83\00:49:27.26 light and walk in the light of Christ. You know don't worry 00:49:27.30\00:49:30.53 about your past because again Jesus is a forgiving God, He's a 00:49:30.57\00:49:34.87 forgiving Savior. You know I was contemplating back here on this 00:49:34.90\00:49:38.87 parable of the sower. You know as we were talking before, you 00:49:38.91\00:49:42.64 know we want to be that good ground. You guys clearly 00:49:42.68\00:49:48.98 received that truth, you were ready to receive it and you were 00:49:49.02\00:49:51.02 not going to let anything come between you and the Lord of 00:49:51.05\00:49:53.82 receiving that truth and allowing it to take root in your 00:49:53.86\00:49:56.56 life and to change you. I just want to speak to our viewers at 00:49:56.59\00:49:59.79 home in just these last few minutes. Maybe you have heard 00:49:59.83\00:50:04.33 the truth, maybe you know the truth, or maybe you're hearing 00:50:04.37\00:50:07.00 the truth for the first time today. You know what, at the end 00:50:07.04\00:50:09.77 of the day what really truly matters is how you receive it. 00:50:09.80\00:50:12.27 Will you receive it and will you allow that to take root in your 00:50:12.31\00:50:15.04 life? Or will you allow some outside influence or some 00:50:15.08\00:50:19.51 desire of your own heart to uproot that seed and not allow 00:50:19.55\00:50:23.15 it to grow? I think that's what it comes down to. Allow Jesus 00:50:23.18\00:50:27.12 Christ to water and to bring that seed, that new truth in 00:50:27.16\00:50:31.59 your life to fruition in your life and to grow and change you. 00:50:31.63\00:50:35.40 Dean and Hilda, It has been a privilege and an honor to spend 00:50:35.43\00:50:39.13 this time with you guys. So you guys we're actually going to go 00:50:39.17\00:50:42.27 to an address roll, I think in just a moment, about a minute or 00:50:42.30\00:50:45.44 so that is going to connect people with your church. I think 00:50:45.47\00:50:49.74 it's your local church. Tell us a little bit about your local 00:50:49.78\00:50:51.11 church in the next 30 seconds or so. 00:50:51.15\00:50:53.42 So we are like I said local and we're welcoming. We are building 00:50:53.45\00:51:00.19 back our congregation and we're looking for young members just 00:51:00.22\00:51:05.33 like everybody else, spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:51:05.36\00:51:08.80 Amen, amen. Perhaps there's someone out there that would 00:51:08.83\00:51:11.03 like to you know help support the local ministry there that's 00:51:11.07\00:51:15.84 going on. And the...what is that again, the name of your church? 00:51:15.87\00:51:20.14 Lake Charles. 00:51:20.18\00:51:21.51 Lake Charles almost said, Saint Charles have mercy. Lake Charles 00:51:21.54\00:51:26.11 If there's someone who wants to support that local ministry 00:51:26.15\00:51:29.18 of the Lake Charles Seventh-day Adventist Church. I know you 00:51:29.22\00:51:30.85 said you wanted to make some upgrades in the technology. You 00:51:30.89\00:51:34.62 know they have a community there just like everywhere else that 00:51:34.66\00:51:37.73 needs to be reached and perhaps maybe the Lord has laid it upon 00:51:37.76\00:51:40.93 your heart right now because you're watching this program and 00:51:40.96\00:51:44.43 maybe you want to give, maybe you want to donate, maybe you 00:51:44.47\00:51:45.80 want to learn more about what Dean and Hilda have learned. 00:51:45.83\00:51:48.57 This is how you can do it. 00:51:48.60\00:51:49.94 If you would like more information about the Lake 00:51:49.97\00:51:53.98 Charles Seventh-day Adventist Church you can contact them at 00:51:54.01\00:51:57.18 1537 Country Club Road, Lake Charles, LA 70605 00:51:57.21\00:52:11.03 You can call them at 337-478-8353 00:52:11.06\00:52:20.14 Or you can find them online at LakeCharlesAdventists.org 00:52:20.17\00:52:23.71 You can also email them at info@LakeCharlesAdventists.org 00:52:23.74\00:52:31.11
