I'm Jason Bradley and I'm so 00:01:06.80\00:01:10.57 glad that you've decided to join us once again. And we have a 00:01:10.60\00:01:14.77 Power-packed hour in store for you today. And I want to share a 00:01:14.80\00:01:19.34 scripture with you. It's Proverbs chapter 22 verse 6 and 00:01:19.37\00:01:23.28 it says train up a child in the way he should go and when he is 00:01:23.31\00:01:26.85 old he will not depart from it. My guest today is Pastor Matthew 00:01:26.88\00:01:33.56 Hasty and you are the literature ministries director in the 00:01:33.59\00:01:38.73 Rocky Mountain Seventh-day Adventist conference. (That's 00:01:38.76\00:01:41.26 right.) It's great to have you here (Thank you). Yes and I'm 00:01:41.30\00:01:44.80 looking forward to talking all about Youth Rush, finding out a 00:01:44.83\00:01:47.87 little bit about your background and all of that. But before we 00:01:47.90\00:01:51.11 dive in ET Everett's going to bless us in song and it's 00:01:51.14\00:01:55.74 entitled When They Ring Those Golden Bells. 00:01:55.78\00:01:59.75 ¤ ¤ 00:01:59.78\00:06:06.39 Amen, amen. It's always a blessing to hear ET play the 00:06:06.43\00:06:10.97 piano. Pastor Hasty, I want to start with your background. 00:06:11.00\00:06:15.90 Let's talk about your upbringing Were you raised in the church 00:06:15.94\00:06:19.47 and did you stay in the church the entire time? 00:06:19.51\00:06:23.41 Yeah, absolutely. Before I answer it I just want to say 00:06:23.45\00:06:25.55 something small. I just got here yesterday from Colorado and my 00:06:25.58\00:06:29.88 wife was raised in Michigan and she felt like she was home. All 00:06:29.92\00:06:33.49 the green, all the grass, all the trees. In Colorado when we 00:06:33.52\00:06:37.43 left there was a lot of brown. So it feels like home. For those 00:06:37.46\00:06:42.76 of you have never been to 3ABN before, this is my first time, 00:06:42.80\00:06:45.37 and it's beautiful it's glorious it's like a little piece of 00:06:45.40\00:06:49.60 heaven out here. We saw deer and just went on a nice 00:06:49.64\00:06:52.87 little nature 00:06:52.91\00:06:54.24 walk. It was wonderful. But yeah my background. I'm a pastor. Um 00:06:54.28\00:06:58.51 I was raised in the church. My dad was a convert from 00:06:58.55\00:07:04.22 Catholicism and my mom's like third-generation Adventist. 00:07:04.25\00:07:07.39 And yeah my mom's a school teacher and so I was home 00:07:07.42\00:07:13.19 schooled for a couple years but then I was in her classroom for 00:07:13.23\00:07:15.53 many more years until high school. And so mom would get me 00:07:15.56\00:07:20.40 in trouble at school. Then I'd get home and get in trouble 00:07:20.44\00:07:22.37 again. But for the most part honestly, I've been in love with 00:07:22.40\00:07:26.47 the church, been in love with the truth and Jesus and just 00:07:26.51\00:07:31.48 excited to be here. 00:07:31.51\00:07:32.88 Yes that's awesome and yes 3ABN is a wonderful place. It's very 00:07:32.91\00:07:36.95 peaceful out here. I'm glad you guys caught onto it. Did you, 00:07:36.99\00:07:41.62 Dad ever share his conversion story with you? 00:07:41.66\00:07:44.03 Oh yeah absolutely. (So what happened) Heard it over and over 00:07:44.06\00:07:47.46 again. 00:07:47.50\00:07:48.83 Okay. So what happened with that 00:07:48.86\00:07:50.67 So I mean man this could take up a whole bunch of time so let me 00:07:50.70\00:07:53.97 try to cut all the fat I can. There's a pastor, Steve Painter, 00:07:54.00\00:07:58.77 he was the president of Indiana when I was there a few years 00:07:58.81\00:08:03.38 ago and before that, he was just starting out as a pastor out in 00:08:03.41\00:08:08.58 the east, I want to say Philadelphia might be wrong. 00:08:08.62\00:08:11.65 But he was going door to door and he knocked on my dad's door 00:08:11.69\00:08:17.26 signed him up for Bible studies and he joined the church. 00:08:17.29\00:08:20.40 Great, praise God, praise God., You know I'm fascinated when I 00:08:20.43\00:08:25.10 hear testimonies. A lot of times you hear testimonies about 00:08:25.13\00:08:28.00 people who you know they may have grown up in the church but 00:08:28.04\00:08:31.11 then they left and then they came back. But I'm fascinated by 00:08:31.14\00:08:33.98 people that stay the entire time because it's truly a blessing 00:08:34.01\00:08:39.48 to hear that testimony about how someone stayed grounded in the 00:08:39.51\00:08:43.69 church. So you know we don't want people to think oh well 00:08:43.72\00:08:47.69 since I stayed in the church, I don't have a testimony. No 00:08:47.72\00:08:50.66 that's a beautiful, beautiful testimony. So tell me about 00:08:50.69\00:08:54.43 Youth Rush. What is Youth Rush? 00:08:54.46\00:08:55.83 So Youth Rush is in its most simple form a mission trip. 00:08:55.86\00:09:00.17 It's a very evangelistically minded mission trip. The kids 00:09:00.20\00:09:05.21 come, they get a training in evangelism. Obviously, it's 00:09:05.24\00:09:09.01 specifically focused on Literature Evangelism and Bible 00:09:09.04\00:09:12.41 work but they also get training in more practical things like 00:09:12.45\00:09:16.42 how to make a budget, how to save some money, not spend too 00:09:16.45\00:09:21.92 much money. They get training the fundamentals of the church 00:09:21.96\00:09:28.16 and I think most importantly Youth Rush brings to our kids an 00:09:28.20\00:09:32.43 experience. Like my goal as a director for Youth Rush in 00:09:32.47\00:09:37.34 Colorado that my students, my college and high school kids, 00:09:37.37\00:09:42.11 they come and they don't just learn about Jesus from an 00:09:42.14\00:09:45.28 intellectual level but they can taste and see that God is not 00:09:45.31\00:09:49.58 just real but He's good. (Amen) And I want them to have that 00:09:49.62\00:09:52.39 experience. That's what really changed me, this program, when 00:09:52.42\00:09:56.52 I was a 16-year-old kid starting out I did this and still do it. 00:09:56.56\00:10:02.23 Yes so this literature evangelism that's taking place 00:10:02.26\00:10:06.74 why are you distributing books? and all of that stuff, why books 00:10:06.77\00:10:11.41 in particular? 00:10:11.44\00:10:13.34 Yeah so like 120 years ago Ellen White had a vision about this 00:10:13.38\00:10:18.81 program and it's Youth Rush's goal really to fulfill that. I 00:10:18.85\00:10:21.38 want to read you a quote. This thing is powerful, 00:10:21.42\00:10:24.35 you'll love it. "The plan for the circulation of Christ's 00:10:24.39\00:10:27.69 Object Lessons" I imagine all of us have read Christ's Object 00:10:27.72\00:10:31.09 Lessons, it's a beautiful book. "...is not of human devising but 00:10:31.13\00:10:34.50 it is God's plan. He signified that this book should be a gift 00:10:34.53\00:10:38.73 to our schools. Thus far it has done its work and God has set 00:10:38.77\00:10:43.10 His approval on the self- sacrificing efforts of His 00:10:43.14\00:10:46.57 people. Shall we mar His plan? No, no..." Listen to this part. 00:10:46.61\00:10:51.18 It's really good. "Until the Lord shall come" let me read the 00:10:51.21\00:10:55.25 whole thing "Until the Lord shall come and our present 00:10:55.28\00:10:58.79 system of school work is ended by entering into the higher 00:10:58.82\00:11:02.66 school, Christ Object Lessons is to stand as a gift to our 00:11:02.69\00:11:06.23 educational institutions." Now is it set up as a gift to just 00:11:06.26\00:11:10.90 be curriculum or whatever? Well it goes on I'll continue reading 00:11:10.93\00:11:16.20 "Long ago the teachers and the students in our schools should 00:11:16.24\00:11:18.67 have learned to take advantage of the opportunity to raise 00:11:18.71\00:11:23.58 means by the sale of Christ's Object Lessons. In selling these 00:11:23.61\00:11:26.41 books the students will serve the cause of God and while doing 00:11:26.45\00:11:30.39 this by the dissemination of precious light they will learn 00:11:30.42\00:11:32.59 invaluable lessons in Christian experience. All our schools 00:11:32.62\00:11:35.69 should come in line and earnestly endeavor to carry 00:11:35.72\00:11:38.99 out the plan presented to us for education of the workers, for 00:11:39.03\00:11:44.47 the relief of our schools and for the winning of the souls 00:11:44.50\00:11:46.80 to Christ." So to put it in a nutshell, Youth Rush's goal is 00:11:46.84\00:11:51.01 really a fundraising mission trip to help our students go 00:11:51.04\00:11:54.38 through our Adventist schools. That's it in a nutshell. And I 00:11:54.41\00:12:00.08 don't believe that just applies to our college-age students and 00:12:00.12\00:12:02.88 our high school students. I think elementary kids go door to 00:12:02.92\00:12:08.19 door all the time. A quick story third graders. We don't let them 00:12:08.22\00:12:12.33 go by themselves. They're with their local pastor, three of 00:12:12.36\00:12:16.43 them going to the doors with their pastor and knock on the 00:12:16.46\00:12:20.04 door, show them a couple books the person, the lady at the 00:12:20.07\00:12:24.11 door she was not interested. About the shut the door and 00:12:24.14\00:12:27.71 right on que, right as we turn little third grader pipes up and 00:12:27.74\00:12:30.85 she's like Ah do you want to pray with us? The lady opens the 00:12:30.88\00:12:38.39 door again. What are you guys doing. Anyway she went to our 00:12:38.42\00:12:40.79 church, she got baptized and joined the church because the 00:12:40.82\00:12:42.62 third graders were applying this principle and taking their books 00:12:42.66\00:12:46.83 door to door. A fundraiser for our schools. 00:12:46.86\00:12:50.50 Praise God. Yeah so out of the mouth of babes. (That's right) 00:12:50.53\00:12:53.20 Yes. Yeah, that shoots. So what do you do when like okay let's 00:12:53.23\00:12:57.51 say you go to the door. You knock on the door. How do you 00:12:57.54\00:12:59.71 handle the objections that come your way. 00:12:59.74\00:13:03.51 Yeah so we do get a lot of objections. Whenever you're 00:13:03.55\00:13:08.78 going to the door you get something. Honestly, I feel like 00:13:08.82\00:13:17.29 at first when I was 16 years old I started doing this work. And 00:13:17.33\00:13:22.03 at first, it was difficult. I remember I didn't realize I 00:13:22.06\00:13:30.14 guess how easy life had been. Raised in the church, went to 00:13:30.17\00:13:36.01 a good school, good Pathfinder club, etc., and you know life 00:13:36.04\00:13:42.08 was pretty easy but as I started knocking on doors there were 00:13:42.12\00:13:46.09 people that were not smiling at me when I knocked on their door. 00:13:46.12\00:13:49.12 And I took it very personal you know. I took it to heart and I 00:13:49.16\00:13:54.73 kind of got a little discouraged because of that. But after doing 00:13:54.76\00:13:58.93 it for so long and growing and maturing I guess I realized that 00:13:58.97\00:14:02.00 it's not me. You know Christ faced rejection as well. And all 00:14:02.04\00:14:10.65 the big biblical characters I read about they faced rejection 00:14:10.68\00:14:14.95 You know rejection is good. It's good for us. It's good for our 00:14:14.98\00:14:19.82 soul. Learning to receive a no is healthy and so I guess over 00:14:19.85\00:14:25.59 time I've had to learn that a little bit. 00:14:25.63\00:14:28.30 Yes. How did you get involved in this particular work? 00:14:28.33\00:14:34.27 So um a friend of mine actually handed me this book right here 00:14:34.30\00:14:40.31 Okay, and what book is that? 00:14:40.34\00:14:42.31 Colporteur Ministry. (Okay) And he handed this book to me and 00:14:42.34\00:14:46.38 told me to read this book. He just did a summer program and 00:14:46.41\00:14:49.08 was going around sharing our books door to door and he said 00:14:49.12\00:14:52.85 hey you should read this and you should do it. And I said okay 00:14:52.89\00:14:55.86 I'll read it. So I started reading this book and I fell in 00:14:55.89\00:14:59.46 love. I was really excited as I was reading. I got all kinds of 00:14:59.49\00:15:03.50 quotes in here. And right after this book I picked up another 00:15:03.53\00:15:06.33 book. It was on prayer something that I picked up at Pacific 00:15:06.37\00:15:11.31 Press. I was barely 16 years old, probably 15 at the time 00:15:11.34\00:15:14.71 and I read that book as well and then I said you know I need to 00:15:14.74\00:15:19.28 apply my prayer life to find out really if God wants me to do 00:15:19.31\00:15:26.39 this or not. And so I prayed a very, very specific prayer and 00:15:26.42\00:15:33.50 that was that the recruiter that was going to come to my school 00:15:33.53\00:15:36.67 that he would walkthrough the door of this classroom at 00:15:36.70\00:15:41.20 exactly 10 o'clock according to the clock that's on the wall 00:15:41.24\00:15:44.77 above the sink. I prayed that prayer for months and I need to 00:15:44.81\00:15:52.58 digress for a moment I don't want this story to give the 00:15:52.61\00:15:59.09 example that this is what we should be praying for. We have 00:15:59.12\00:16:02.89 examples in the Bible, Gideon, he prayed over the fleece before 00:16:02.92\00:16:06.49 he went to battle and you know we see examples of that and God 00:16:06.53\00:16:12.13 does answer those kinds of prayers but God also wants us to 00:16:12.17\00:16:14.94 exercise our faith and I don't want to lead anyone astray to 00:16:14.97\00:16:19.17 say hey this is how we should be praying. Let me just share this 00:16:19.21\00:16:23.04 quote with you: "To our people I will say let none be led from 00:16:23.08\00:16:26.78 the sound, sensible principles that God has laid down for the 00:16:26.82\00:16:30.89 guidance of His people. To depend for direction for any 00:16:30.92\00:16:33.76 such device as the tossing of a coin. Such a course is well 00:16:33.79\00:16:37.49 pleasing to the enemy of souls when he works to control the 00:16:37.53\00:16:41.46 coin and through its agency works out his plans. Let none be 00:16:41.50\00:16:47.87 so easily deceived as to place confidence in such tests. Let 00:16:47.90\00:16:51.24 none belittle the experience by resorting to cheap devices for 00:16:51.27\00:16:56.24 the direction in important matters connected with the work 00:16:56.28\00:16:58.81 of God." So I say that to say this story I do not want to lead 00:16:58.85\00:17:03.99 the audience into saying we should be praying for fleeces or 00:17:04.02\00:17:07.59 praying for this kind of thing. God wants us to exercise faith 00:17:07.62\00:17:10.83 Makes me think of Thomas. He wouldn't believe in Christ until 00:17:10.86\00:17:14.86 he saw Christ. How many of us should be believing before we 00:17:14.90\00:17:18.23 see. You know exercising our faith but this story I really 00:17:18.27\00:17:23.41 want to set up as inspiration to anyone that might be 00:17:23.44\00:17:27.54 struggling is this God's will God is will. I just point 00:17:27.58\00:17:32.25 Adventists to that. I want to God waits to say God really 00:17:32.28\00:17:35.88 wants our young people involved in ministry. He wants them to 00:17:35.92\00:17:38.65 work for Him. Anyway enough of my side note. 00:17:38.69\00:17:42.62 It's really good. I mean God does want us to be active. 00:17:42.66\00:17:49.10 He's not looking for bench warmers. He's looking for people 00:17:49.13\00:17:51.63 to get out there in the field. We serve a God of action you 00:17:51.67\00:17:54.60 know and so He wants us to take action and to lead people to Him 00:17:54.64\00:17:59.54 And it's a beautiful thing to partake in that work. 00:17:59.57\00:18:04.31 So I was in my...I was praying for this prayer, right, that God 00:18:04.35\00:18:07.45 would send the recruiter in the doorway of my classroom 00:18:07.48\00:18:11.32 according to that clock above the sink and the day came where 00:18:11.35\00:18:16.76 I found out the recruiter was scheduled to be at my school 00:18:16.79\00:18:19.39 at eight in the morning, first part of the day to do worship. 00:18:19.43\00:18:23.77 But I was praying for 10 in the morning. And I didn't stop 00:18:23.80\00:18:27.37 praying for 10 in the morning. Even that day I remember saying 00:18:27.40\00:18:30.31 Lord you know I've been praying for months now for 10 and he 00:18:30.34\00:18:34.74 calls right around 8 o'clock and the teacher, who is also my mom, 00:18:34.78\00:18:38.91 she tells us hey the recruiter's going to be running a couple 00:18:38.95\00:18:45.12 hours late. My stomach starts to turn and I go to the bathroom 00:18:45.15\00:18:50.46 and the recruiter, his name is Marshall McKenzie, a wonderful 00:18:50.49\00:18:54.53 pastor, he's been a big blessing to me over the years. But he's 00:18:54.56\00:18:57.83 in the bathroom just a few minutes before 10. I'm like hey 00:18:57.87\00:18:59.97 have you walked through the door way in this classroom yet? He 00:19:00.00\00:19:03.27 looked at me like what? And he was like no I just got here and 00:19:03.30\00:19:07.08 went to the bathroom. I'm like okay. So he goes into the 00:19:07.11\00:19:10.11 classroom and Pastor Marshall McKenzie walked right up 00:19:10.15\00:19:14.85 to the doorway 00:19:14.88\00:19:16.52 and doesn't walk in. Stands there. And then the teacher, my 00:19:16.55\00:19:21.19 mom, she walks right up to the doorway and she stands there and 00:19:21.22\00:19:23.22 they're both right in between the doorway and they're there 00:19:23.26\00:19:26.43 for about five minutes talking. And the clock lined up. I jumped 00:19:26.46\00:19:32.83 up on the counter, I jumped up on the counter, I looked at the 00:19:32.87\00:19:36.30 clock as closely as I could and it lined up perfectly at 10 00:19:36.34\00:19:39.41 o'clock, it couldn't be more than 10 o'clock than that moment 00:19:39.44\00:19:42.44 right there. I said, Lord if you want me to do this send him in 00:19:42.48\00:19:45.88 the door. That second he walked through the door. (Wow that is 00:19:45.91\00:19:49.42 huge) It's like God's real. I have more confidence in this 00:19:49.45\00:19:55.06 program than anything else on the planet. There's a lot of 00:19:55.09\00:19:58.33 good things we can do. Summer camp. I spent a couple summers 00:19:58.36\00:20:01.73 at summer camp. They're great. You know cleaning the church is 00:20:01.76\00:20:05.07 good, there's nothing wrong with making burritos, good burritos 00:20:05.10\00:20:09.90 but this is God's plan and I just have so much confidence 00:20:09.94\00:20:15.64 and this is His mission for us. 00:20:15.68\00:20:17.35 Absolutely. Is literature evangelism hard? 00:20:17.38\00:20:22.38 Yeah, I was going to do this a few minutes ago but to me right 00:20:22.42\00:20:27.89 now I say literature evangelism is not hard. You know I mean you 00:20:27.92\00:20:32.76 are walking around. That's not that big of a deal. I went on a 00:20:32.79\00:20:35.10 walk for fun yesterday. So it's not that bad. You carry a bag. 00:20:35.13\00:20:39.00 It's not too heavy to me. Now maybe some people might argue. 00:20:39.03\00:20:42.60 But in a sense it's pretty easy. However what is hard is all 00:20:42.64\00:20:48.71 mental. I mean you could even say emotional. I said this a 00:20:48.74\00:20:54.22 few second ago but you know when I was a kid starting out facing 00:20:54.25\00:20:59.65 rejection for the first time relatively spoiled you could say 00:20:59.69\00:21:04.69 You know, I didn't know I was spoiled but I was. You now I was 00:21:04.73\00:21:10.03 I'd just never faced rejection and no's like that before. And 00:21:10.07\00:21:11.70 that was hard for me. I had to learn to get over me. Over you 00:21:11.73\00:21:18.21 you know it's selfish to be upset when someone says no to 00:21:18.24\00:21:21.24 you. But that is ministry. Ministry is wrestling, 00:21:21.28\00:21:25.95 not against 00:21:25.98\00:21:27.32 flesh and blood and it's a wrestle. We need to learn to not 00:21:27.35\00:21:31.35 rely on ourselves for that but rely on Christ. He's our 00:21:31.39\00:21:35.36 strength, He's our power and when we let go of us it's not 00:21:35.39\00:21:41.53 that hard. Really enjoyable. I found it a big blessing. 00:21:41.56\00:21:46.87 Mmm. The other thing you know that's a big part of our 00:21:46.90\00:21:50.17 Christian journey you know as we're walking through, like we 00:21:50.21\00:21:53.98 have to get rid of self and we die to self and live for Christ 00:21:54.01\00:21:58.65 so, yeah, that's a huge part of our Christian life. 00:21:58.68\00:22:01.28 And now even I when I get rejected it's almost like fuel 00:22:01.32\00:22:03.79 to the fire. I kind of get pumped up. Going hours where 00:22:03.82\00:22:10.19 there's a lot of noise like ah there's something good coming 00:22:10.23\00:22:11.66 you know. The principle of the little lost coin, that parable 00:22:11.69\00:22:15.40 that Jesus shared is a reality to me on a daily basis. Looking 00:22:15.43\00:22:20.14 for that one person. 00:22:20.17\00:22:21.97 Yeah. And you know what, you never know too, because as you 00:22:22.00\00:22:25.67 go to the door and you share well you attempt to share the 00:22:25.71\00:22:30.25 good news of Jesus Christ. They may reject you in that moment 00:22:30.28\00:22:34.32 but maybe a seed has been planted that later gets watered 00:22:34.35\00:22:38.29 and then they're in somebody's church down the street or 00:22:38.32\00:22:41.42 whatever. Yeah. 00:22:41.46\00:22:43.02 Absolutely you don't know. 00:22:43.06\00:22:44.49 Yeah for sure (what happened) 00:22:44.53\00:22:46.63 Now you're a pastor and you know you've been asked to pastor 00:22:46.66\00:22:49.70 several different churches but yet you continue in this work. 00:22:49.73\00:22:54.00 Why is that? 00:22:54.04\00:22:55.37 You know it's a great question. I love pastoring, I really do. 00:22:55.40\00:23:00.44 I go to church in Windsor. They're wonderful and Indiana 00:23:00.48\00:23:05.31 I pastored a few churches. Mary and Markle in Hartford City, 00:23:05.35\00:23:08.68 Hello guys. Like I love pastoring but I really have a 00:23:08.72\00:23:14.82 burden for this ministry, for our literature work to really 00:23:14.86\00:23:22.20 prosper. A hundred and some years ago it was a different 00:23:22.23\00:23:26.10 scenario but today I feel the literature work is largely 00:23:26.13\00:23:30.97 lacking. I feel like especially in the North American Division 00:23:31.01\00:23:34.08 you know we can do more to make it healthy and run it in a way 00:23:34.11\00:23:40.78 that really makes it successful for our young people. Um this 00:23:40.82\00:23:45.69 quote I believe what draws me here is I believe the literature 00:23:45.72\00:23:52.59 is going to make a big impact in the last days. This is a common 00:23:52.63\00:23:57.43 book, everyone's heard of the Great Controversy but let me 00:23:57.47\00:24:00.67 just share this quote with you. This is from The Final Warning 00:24:00.70\00:24:03.17 It says, "The message will be carried not so much by argument 00:24:03.20\00:24:08.18 as by deep conviction of the Holy Spirit." So she's looking 00:24:08.21\00:24:11.91 into the very, very last days of the last days in the very, 00:24:11.95\00:24:16.89 very, very end of time, talking about the latter rain being 00:24:16.92\00:24:19.35 poured out and so the "work largely is going to be done by 00:24:19.39\00:24:23.09 the conviction of the Holy Spirit" and then she goes on: 00:24:23.12\00:24:26.03 "The arguments have been presented which I think is 00:24:26.06\00:24:28.63 pointing back to now. They have been presented and then then 00:24:28.66\00:24:33.74 the seed has been sown." So we got the work done, Amen to us. 00:24:33.77\00:24:38.47 Praise God. "But then it springs up and bears fruit" and she goes 00:24:38.51\00:24:45.35 on to elaborate, What is the seed that was being referred to 00:24:45.38\00:24:47.72 and she spelled it out directly "The publications distributed by 00:24:47.75\00:24:51.29 the missionary workers having exerted their influence yet many 00:24:51.32\00:24:54.99 whose minds have been impressed were prevented from 00:24:55.02\00:24:58.53 comprehending the truth or from yielding obedience." I've seen 00:24:58.56\00:25:02.23 this so many times. I was a Bible worker and I did Bible 00:25:02.26\00:25:07.84 studies with this pilot and his family and I gave them a Great 00:25:07.87\00:25:13.11 Controversy. A week later he comes back and he has like a 00:25:13.14\00:25:18.08 copy, like copies of this big of his book or stuff in the book in 00:25:18.11\00:25:22.58 the Great Controversy that he really liked and he read this 00:25:22.62\00:25:28.19 whole thing in one week and he was blessed. 00:25:28.22\00:25:30.96 He read the whole thing in one week?! 00:25:30.99\00:25:32.86 One week. Yeah it took me a year. 00:25:32.89\00:25:34.23 Yeah, it's 400 and something, 500 pages. 00:25:34.26\00:25:37.20 But he didn't yield obedience yet. It didn't completely make 00:25:37.23\00:25:41.67 sense to him. Another experience I was at a door. Some guy says 00:25:41.70\00:25:47.94 hey I have that book, comes back out with an old Great 00:25:47.98\00:25:49.31 Controversy. Highlights everywhere. Multiple colors. 00:25:49.34\00:25:52.51 black ink. I mean this thing is lit up and he showed it to me 00:25:52.55\00:25:56.69 but again he wasn't ready to yield obedience. I feel like 00:25:56.72\00:26:01.96 this work is almost like buying into a Roth IRA or something. 00:26:01.99\00:26:06.86 You know we're told that many people will get these books. 00:26:06.90\00:26:09.76 They're not quite ready to yield obedience but the time will come 00:26:09.80\00:26:14.54 when the latter rain is poured out, when it's time to retire 00:26:14.57\00:26:17.57 I'm looking forward to that day. That people will be won to the 00:26:17.61\00:26:22.04 truth that thousands will be converted in a day who will 00:26:22.08\00:26:25.21 trace their first convictions to the reading of our books. 00:26:25.25\00:26:28.08 On that same note I mean Dr. Kibble a very respected 00:26:28.12\00:26:34.86 seminary professor, he did some extensive research on why people 00:26:34.89\00:26:40.43 stay in the church. And I thought this was really 00:26:40.46\00:26:44.27 interesting. The number one reason why people join the 00:26:44.30\00:26:47.70 church or stay in the church is that they were raised in it. 00:26:47.74\00:26:50.24 Makes sense. I'm there. I was raised in the church. Number two 00:26:50.27\00:26:54.44 they had friends or relatives. The top two reasons why people 00:26:54.48\00:26:57.91 join the church. The third reason which I thought was 00:26:57.95\00:27:02.32 awesome is because of books or literature. Books or literature 00:27:02.35\00:27:06.96 are the evangelistic tool that leads people into the church. 00:27:06.99\00:27:10.89 And there's a lot of other things or reasons why but those 00:27:10.93\00:27:13.73 are the top three reasons. The fourth reason which is a common 00:27:13.76\00:27:18.33 one is a public evangelistic series. I'm preaching one in 00:27:18.37\00:27:22.37 October and I think it's great. You know Bible studies in homes 00:27:22.40\00:27:25.41 By pastors, TV, and radio stations, correspondence Bible 00:27:25.44\00:27:28.48 studies, internet material. All these things make an impact but 00:27:28.51\00:27:32.61 the top three was your friends being raised in the church and 00:27:32.65\00:27:36.45 then sharing literature. You know so our literature makes 00:27:36.48\00:27:39.89 an impact on people. 00:27:39.92\00:27:43.76 Absolutely. Have you... 00:27:43.79\00:27:46.03 You know have you heard of the Barna, Barna group. (I have not) 00:27:46.06\00:27:49.26 So you can go to Barna.com and they have a whole bunch of 00:27:49.30\00:27:51.87 different research. It's like a nondenominational Christian 00:27:51.90\00:27:55.54 research firm. And I thought this was really cool. They did a 00:27:55.57\00:28:01.91 survey on what are pastors favorite author under 40, 00:28:01.94\00:28:07.55 pastors under 40 favorite authors and on the top three 00:28:07.58\00:28:11.02 that came to the surface talking about Baptist, nondenominational 00:28:11.05\00:28:14.46 Methodist, you know mainstream audience. Who their favorite 00:28:14.49\00:28:18.66 authors were and Barna says Ellen White was the top three 00:28:18.69\00:28:23.13 (Wow) from these pastors favorite authors. 00:28:23.16\00:28:28.24 Wow, so on a nondenominational site Ellen White was in the top 00:28:28.27\00:28:33.27 three. 00:28:33.31\00:28:34.64 If you want sources I can find them. It's amazing. Beautiful. 00:28:34.68\00:28:36.28 That's incredible, that's incredible. And these pastors 00:28:36.31\00:28:41.22 are reading this stuff. You know they're preaching it as well. 00:28:41.25\00:28:43.95 Yes, yes. So walk us through the program. What does Youth Rush 00:28:43.99\00:28:49.36 look like. How do you prepare to go out and knock on doors. Walk 00:28:49.39\00:28:54.16 us through the whole process and how do you get the kids to 00:28:54.20\00:28:56.20 buy in? 00:28:56.23\00:28:58.17 Sure. So it's a hard pitch. Hey you want to come and go door to 00:28:58.20\00:29:02.87 door all summer? Yeah. It's not easiest sell. This summer in 00:29:02.90\00:29:08.01 Colorado, we'll have about 30 young people going door to door. 00:29:08.04\00:29:12.71 And pray for them. You have to have a mission-minded young 00:29:12.75\00:29:17.85 person. You know there's a lot of ways to make money. You know 00:29:17.89\00:29:23.22 you can work in McDonald's and get paid good money these days. 00:29:23.26\00:29:27.56 You know, but there's a lot of young people that have a burden 00:29:27.60\00:29:30.87 for mission as well. So when they come we just enhance that 00:29:30.90\00:29:36.60 burden that's already there. These kids are raised in the 00:29:36.64\00:29:39.01 church or even converts to the church. We had a girl just a 00:29:39.04\00:29:43.24 couple years ago that was baptized and then a month later 00:29:43.28\00:29:46.88 she joined us. She's the only Adventist in her family. And she 00:29:46.92\00:29:51.52 just had amazing, amazing stories to share. I mean just 00:29:51.55\00:29:55.32 books of Divine appointments. It's wonderful. But yeah I mean 00:29:55.36\00:30:02.06 you have to have a mission minded young person. 00:30:02.10\00:30:05.57 Yes, yes. And so as you're preparing to go out and knock on 00:30:05.60\00:30:08.40 doors like do you have like a table full of literature and you 00:30:08.44\00:30:13.38 guys carry those, put them in bags and head out. Like what's 00:30:13.41\00:30:17.65 the...give us the steps. 00:30:17.68\00:30:19.21 Step by step (yeah) what does their day looks like, (exactly) 00:30:19.25\00:30:21.62 So we packed their bags. We've got these nice little custom 00:30:21.65\00:30:26.22 bags and we put our books all lined up in there properly, 00:30:26.25\00:30:31.73 throw the books on the kid's shoulder and then they go into a 00:30:31.76\00:30:35.56 minivan with a leader. These are people who've done this before, 00:30:35.60\00:30:39.47 they've been through it multiple years. They're old enough now. 00:30:39.50\00:30:43.00 They're safe drivers. You know we have a policy in Colorado 00:30:43.04\00:30:45.71 that you're not even allowed to drive without a perfect record. 00:30:45.74\00:30:47.71 If you have one speeding ticket or a parking ticket. You can't 00:30:47.74\00:30:50.18 even drive. 00:30:50.21\00:30:51.55 There's a lot of people disqualified from that part. 00:30:51.58\00:30:53.85 Yeah, absolutely. Until you're 21 and you get a little more 00:30:53.88\00:30:57.55 flexibility there. But yeah we put these guys in the minivans 00:30:57.59\00:31:01.22 singing and praying in the van, and we get out there. We just 00:31:01.26\00:31:05.39 start knocking on doors. About three and a half hours and we 00:31:05.43\00:31:08.70 stop for lunch. Take a break. Then we do it again after lunch 00:31:08.73\00:31:12.13 and then go home in the evening and play some games and have 00:31:12.17\00:31:16.94 some fun and go to bed. 00:31:16.97\00:31:18.57 That's awesome. What stories can you share about maybe a life 00:31:18.61\00:31:23.11 that has been touched or transformed as a result of the 00:31:23.14\00:31:27.75 literature evangelism works. 00:31:27.78\00:31:29.12 Ah man, there's so many stories. Honestly, we could dedicate a 00:31:29.15\00:31:32.05 whole episode to just literature evangelism stories. (I love it) 00:31:32.09\00:31:36.52 I think it would be awesome. I could invite some friends and 00:31:36.56\00:31:38.96 they could all share their stories as well but I think one 00:31:38.99\00:31:41.23 that really jumps out to me is I went to college, started off 00:31:41.26\00:31:46.40 at Southern Adventist University Great school. Wanted to be a 00:31:46.43\00:31:51.61 pastor, so I studied theology there but one thing led to 00:31:51.64\00:31:55.08 another and I ended up leaving the school and one thing led to 00:31:55.11\00:32:00.72 the next thing and I ended up going to a Bible college called 00:32:00.75\00:32:02.82 Souls West. What really sold me on it was it was very hands-on. 00:32:02.85\00:32:07.59 It wasn't just downloading data but we'd do that, we'd do 00:32:07.62\00:32:12.99 training but then we would go out and have some practical 00:32:13.03\00:32:16.46 application to all the stuff they were throwing our way. 00:32:16.50\00:32:18.63 So it was my second year at Souls West, I went to it out in 00:32:18.67\00:32:23.10 Arizona and I just did a class on how to be a Bible worker but 00:32:23.14\00:32:30.05 then the practicum for Bible work. So the other teachers and 00:32:30.08\00:32:33.21 staff in the school they're assisting you to be a Bible 00:32:33.25\00:32:36.05 worker while I'm Bible-working. But the greatest goal of being a 00:32:36.08\00:32:40.36 Bible worker is getting Bible studies to study the Bible with. 00:32:40.39\00:32:43.89 And so I was processing on how to get and generate 00:32:43.93\00:32:47.80 more interest 00:32:47.83\00:32:49.16 more Bible study students and I found out the easiest way for me 00:32:49.20\00:32:53.34 at least to just keep it really simple and ask them. So one 00:32:53.37\00:32:59.47 Sabbath afternoon my other Bible worker friends couldn't make it 00:32:59.51\00:33:02.98 and they had surveys we were going to do and I was like aah 00:33:03.01\00:33:05.91 I'm just going to go and ask people if they would like to 00:33:05.95\00:33:08.45 study the Bible with me. So first door I knock on it, the 00:33:08.48\00:33:13.12 guy answered and I go hey I go to Bible college and I'm looking 00:33:13.15\00:33:15.42 for some guinea pigs. You want to study the Bible with me? 00:33:15.46\00:33:18.96 Sure. And I go through this little cul de sac, less than an 00:33:18.99\00:33:24.30 hour doing it three people signed up for Bible studies. 00:33:24.33\00:33:25.73 It was awesome. But it was only a practicum so I needed to 00:33:25.77\00:33:31.37 transfer those Bible studies off to our church members. And so I 00:33:31.41\00:33:36.81 handed off a Bible study interest to Ron and Sheryl 00:33:36.85\00:33:38.71 Sheraton. Call them mom and dad today. I lived with them for 00:33:38.75\00:33:42.45 that moment in time, great people but they finished the 00:33:42.48\00:33:48.66 Bible studies with this guy and they gave me a call about a 00:33:48.69\00:33:52.29 month or two later about this gentleman that I met at the door 00:33:52.33\00:33:55.60 was getting baptized. And I was excited. First time I ever met 00:33:55.63\00:33:59.87 someone that actually went through the whole system and 00:33:59.90\00:34:02.50 joined the church. So I drive down from Mesa from Flagstaff, 00:34:02.54\00:34:09.08 Arizona down to Mesa and go to this guy's baptism. After the 00:34:09.11\00:34:15.45 church service was over some lady came up to me and she said 00:34:15.48\00:34:20.56 hey, do you remember me? And I mean I got a goldfish memory 00:34:20.59\00:34:24.59 It's in and out you know. And I'm like sorry no I don't 00:34:24.63\00:34:28.86 remember you. And she said you knocked on my door a few months 00:34:28.90\00:34:33.87 ago and I was like cool. She said what you don't know is I 00:34:33.90\00:34:40.81 got Desire of Ages and Steps to Christ, and Christ's Object 00:34:40.84\00:34:43.88 Lessons and she said three days later my daughter disappeared. 00:34:43.91\00:34:48.48 And I still have no idea where she's at. And she said, those 00:34:48.52\00:34:52.59 books were the biggest blessing to me. They were exactly what I 00:34:52.62\00:34:56.39 needed at that time. And it didn't hit me till a few 00:34:56.42\00:34:58.43 moments later but I left and went to start driving home and 00:34:58.46\00:35:02.50 it hit me. I was like wow. Someone was baptized because I 00:35:02.53\00:35:06.97 simply knocked on the door and someone else was in the church 00:35:07.00\00:35:08.80 that was greatly blessed as a result of my ministry as well 00:35:08.84\00:35:12.37 from simply knocking on their door. We don't know the impact 00:35:12.41\00:35:18.05 that we'll make you know but... 00:35:18.08\00:35:21.35 Absolutely. (yeah) I wonder if she ever found her daughter? 00:35:21.38\00:35:24.59 I have no idea, never saw her again. 00:35:24.62\00:35:26.65 Man! Yeah, it's incredible. We have to open our mouths. We have 00:35:26.69\00:35:31.23 to speak up and share the good news of Jesus Christ. What I've 00:35:31.26\00:35:37.17 found is that you know there a lot of people who are hungry for 00:35:37.20\00:35:39.47 the gospel. The problem is they're looking in all the wrong 00:35:39.50\00:35:43.10 places because they don't know what it is they're looking for. 00:35:43.14\00:35:45.64 They're looking for something to fill that void. As Christians we 00:35:45.67\00:35:49.98 know that only Jesus Christ can do that. You know we talked 00:35:50.01\00:35:53.01 about studying the Bible and so my question to you Pastor Hasty 00:35:53.05\00:35:58.75 is How do you recommend someone go about studying the 00:35:58.79\00:36:02.56 Bible? Where should they start? 00:36:02.59\00:36:05.16 You know I'm a pretty simple guy. (okay) I like to keep 00:36:05.19\00:36:08.76 everything really simple. I preach at my church regularly 00:36:08.80\00:36:13.30 you know but my sermon development time is lacking 00:36:13.34\00:36:18.14 because I spend a lot of my time going door to door. And the more 00:36:18.17\00:36:23.68 I read and the more I study the more I see all these 00:36:23.71\00:36:27.32 illustrations especially in the ministry of Jesus. You know He 00:36:27.35\00:36:30.35 had so many illustrations. And so when I learn something that 00:36:30.39\00:36:34.56 just connects with me my next thought is how can I make this 00:36:34.59\00:36:40.00 as practical as possible by adding the story that could help 00:36:40.03\00:36:44.33 bring home that point or another form of illustration, 00:36:44.37\00:36:48.20 you know science experiments whatever you know. Something to 00:36:48.24\00:36:51.57 make the Bible come to life a little bit more. So that's been 00:36:51.61\00:36:55.68 my journey. I like to process slowly and then make it come to 00:36:55.71\00:37:00.02 life with some good applications. 00:37:00.05\00:37:02.58 Yes and so that's when you're preparing like your sermons. 00:37:02.62\00:37:04.39 But what about like if someone's studying the Bible. They want to 00:37:04.42\00:37:08.92 study the Bible like let's say this is their first time like 00:37:08.96\00:37:12.53 ever looking at the Bible. Where should they start? 00:37:12.56\00:37:16.10 Well you're talking to a literature evangelist. I 00:37:16.13\00:37:20.00 recommend getting a book and reading it. Even the ministry of 00:37:20.04\00:37:24.64 Ellen White. She said herself that her goal is to bring us 00:37:24.67\00:37:29.14 closer to the 00:37:29.18\00:37:30.91 Bible. Her ministry is just to help us to get into the word. 00:37:30.95\00:37:33.78 You know so authors are designed to help us understand and 00:37:33.82\00:37:38.69 comprehend scripture. And so I recommend getting some books and 00:37:38.72\00:37:42.59 just reading on various Bible topics. I just picked up another 00:37:42.62\00:37:47.00 book. Amazing Facts came out with a daily devotional on 00:37:47.03\00:37:50.37 Revelation I bought a hundred of them and gave them to all my 00:37:50.40\00:37:56.27 church members as well. Yeah books are great in helping us 00:37:56.30\00:38:00.41 dig deeper in the word of God. But there's nothing wrong with 00:38:00.44\00:38:03.85 just keeping it simple in the word of God either. You know 00:38:03.88\00:38:07.32 starting slow and then as your reading you might have questions 00:38:07.35\00:38:11.55 You know go back to the Concordance and look all the 00:38:11.59\00:38:15.56 verses similar to that verse All the words in the Greek or 00:38:15.59\00:38:19.59 the Hebrew that are similar to that word. You know we can do 00:38:19.63\00:38:21.70 that very simply by using our study tools we have, Bible 00:38:21.73\00:38:26.43 concordance is a great tool and can reveal a lot of cool things 00:38:26.47\00:38:29.94 in the scriptures. 00:38:29.97\00:38:31.74 Yeah absolutely. And it's so important to study line upon 00:38:31.77\00:38:34.51 line and precept upon precept here a little there a little. 00:38:34.54\00:38:37.55 You know you can't form doctrine off one passage. But sure so 00:38:37.58\00:38:41.92 that's really good. How can we bless the literature evangelism 00:38:41.95\00:38:45.55 work? 00:38:45.59\00:38:47.72 Yeah, great question. I'm glad you asked that. First thing, you 00:38:47.76\00:38:50.93 can buy a book. You know our kids go door to door. If you 00:38:50.96\00:38:58.40 have a literature evangelist knock on your door be a blessing 00:38:58.43\00:38:59.97 to them. If you don't have money you can't buy, give them water, 00:39:00.00\00:39:03.37 pray with them you know. But be ready to bless them if they ever 00:39:03.41\00:39:08.34 do knock on your door. But you know I believe in prayer, I 00:39:08.38\00:39:11.68 really do. Just a couple weeks ago I had some kids at Campion 00:39:11.71\00:39:17.05 Academy. We have a program that we take out at a high school in 00:39:17.09\00:39:20.96 Colorado these kids almost every day. And you know we went 00:39:20.99\00:39:25.19 out and started knocking on doors and in about two hours we 00:39:25.23\00:39:28.50 had 20 books with my little group of five kids. It was 00:39:28.53\00:39:31.93 awesome. The next day, that same town almost like the next street 00:39:31.97\00:39:36.71 right over we were out there for about two hours and we had like 00:39:36.74\00:39:41.68 a book, maybe two. It was really really slow. We didn't pray with 00:39:41.71\00:39:44.75 anyone, we didn't sign up with the Bible studies. Like it was 00:39:44.78\00:39:46.72 just like nothing was happening which in those moments and it 00:39:46.75\00:39:51.05 probably should be more than this to be honest, what do you 00:39:51.09\00:39:53.72 do? You pray. And so I got in the habit of texting my mom 00:39:53.76\00:39:59.66 hey mom we're struggling here pray for us. And then our group 00:39:59.69\00:40:07.50 we're starting to text other people. Pray for so and so. He's 00:40:07.54\00:40:09.40 looking a little discouraged right now. You know and by 00:40:09.44\00:40:14.01 prayer we see the books being circulated. Hey this quote, I 00:40:14.04\00:40:19.51 want to read it with you. Humble fervent prayer, it's right in 00:40:19.55\00:40:22.92 this book right here..."Humble fervent prayer would do more in 00:40:22.95\00:40:27.66 behalf of the circulation of our books than by all expensive 00:40:27.69\00:40:30.66 embellishments in the world." (Wow) Humble fervent prayer. 00:40:30.69\00:40:33.60 (Yes, yes) That's how we get our books out. 00:40:33.63\00:40:35.66 (Yeah) And so we just a couple weeks ago we went and set a goal 00:40:35.70\00:40:38.93 prayer felt goal, We want to get 20 books out. Two hours goes by 00:40:38.97\00:40:42.54 like maybe one or two. I text my mom, I text some friends. Jerry 00:40:42.57\00:40:48.78 Pumperton I texted him. I mean my prayer warriors, I need you 00:40:48.81\00:40:51.88 to pray for my team. We only have about 45 minutes left. We 00:40:51.91\00:40:54.38 are praying for 20 books. Pray for us. I don't know what 00:40:54.42\00:40:58.45 happened. We ended up with like 25 books in the last few minutes 00:40:58.49\00:41:01.32 of the day. And prayed with some lady from England and signed her 00:41:01.36\00:41:05.56 up for Bible studies. Like that's not coincidence. Answer 00:41:05.59\00:41:11.20 to prayer. So how can you pray? I'd encourage you to be prayer 00:41:11.23\00:41:16.20 warriors for our literature evangelists throughout this 00:41:16.24\00:41:18.91 country. Um on your screen I imagine there's going to be a 00:41:18.94\00:41:22.48 QR code that you could participate. If you want to be 00:41:22.51\00:41:25.21 on the front lines with us pray 00:41:25.25\00:41:27.82 Pull out your phone. If you don't know what is pull up your 00:41:27.85\00:41:32.42 camera on your phone and it should highlight something. 00:41:32.45\00:41:35.29 Click on that and it'll take you 00:41:35.32\00:41:36.89 to a simple way for you to keep 00:41:36.93\00:41:38.99 in touch with us. I'll send you 00:41:39.03\00:41:41.76 personally a text message whenever one of our kids is 00:41:41.80\00:41:43.87 struggling and you want to pray for them. We encourage and 00:41:43.90\00:41:48.70 love your prayers for our kids. You can also go to our website 00:41:48.74\00:41:53.34 rmcyouthrush.com and you can sign up there to be a prayer 00:41:53.38\00:42:02.75 warrior. 00:42:02.78\00:42:04.12 Yes, yes. Is there anything else that you have a burden for that 00:42:04.15\00:42:06.76 we can pray for? 00:42:06.79\00:42:09.52 Yeah so I read a book, it's a very small little book on Luke 00:42:09.56\00:42:15.23 chapter 10 verse 2. It says the harvest is great, the laborers 00:42:15.26\00:42:18.87 are few therefore pray to the Lord of harvest to send forth 00:42:18.90\00:42:22.37 laborers into the harvest. You know I would encourage us to 00:42:22.40\00:42:25.84 apply that prayer request from Jesus. You know Jesus 00:42:25.87\00:42:30.38 specifically asked us to pray for more workers and we should 00:42:30.41\00:42:33.78 be doing that. You know as I was kind of reading into that and 00:42:33.82\00:42:37.79 studying that something kind of dawned on me and this is you 00:42:37.82\00:42:42.82 know maybe my thing but I could be arthic so in high school I 00:42:42.86\00:42:49.80 went to Great Lakes Adventist Academy and they have this thing 00:42:49.83\00:42:53.07 at 10 o'clock in the morning every single morning the alarm 00:42:53.10\00:42:56.37 goes off and that's our alarm to pray for two minutes. It's in 00:42:56.40\00:43:02.14 the morning. And then I looked at Luke 10:2 and that memory 00:43:02.18\00:43:06.25 came to mind from my high school experience and I was like that 00:43:06.28\00:43:11.69 Luke 10:2 in the morning for two minutes could be my prayer 00:43:11.72\00:43:17.13 mantra for the rest of my life. So whenever possible and it's 00:43:17.16\00:43:21.46 not always possible but whenever possible I have an alarm that 00:43:21.50\00:43:25.33 goes off and at 10 o'clock I stop whatever I'm doing if I can 00:43:25.37\00:43:29.54 and I pray, not just for everything but I pray 00:43:29.57\00:43:33.34 specifically for laborers. And I encourage you to do that. I mean 00:43:33.38\00:43:37.11 how often would that be that if next year this time instead of 00:43:37.15\00:43:40.18 30 literature evangelists in Colorado, we have a hundred. You 00:43:40.22\00:43:44.22 know. Instead of a thousand literature evangelists in the 00:43:44.25\00:43:46.92 North American Division you know we have two thousand. You know 00:43:46.96\00:43:50.63 as a specific result of us praying for more workers. 00:43:50.66\00:43:55.53 Absolutely. You know I love the fact that you said set an alarm 00:43:55.56\00:43:58.37 and pray at a specific time. My mother, she sets an alarm and 00:43:58.40\00:44:02.60 she prays for our family members that are out, you know, out of 00:44:02.64\00:44:06.27 the church and don't know Christ or have walked away from Christ. 00:44:06.31\00:44:10.95 And Daniel he stopped in his schedule three times a day to 00:44:10.98\00:44:15.58 pray you know. And we get in the habit of praying before bed 00:44:15.62\00:44:18.15 or when we first get up in the morning. And then some of you 00:44:18.19\00:44:22.62 know we pray all day long. But still, we need to make a special 00:44:22.66\00:44:26.76 moment every day or multiple times a day to have prayer. 00:44:26.80\00:44:32.90 I think that'd be great. 00:44:32.93\00:44:34.27 Absolutely. So what are the needs, what are some of the 00:44:34.30\00:44:36.10 needs of the ministry? 00:44:36.14\00:44:37.47 What are the needs of the ministry? You know I mentioned 00:44:37.51\00:44:41.91 prayer, it's a great thing. You know our conference is super 00:44:41.94\00:44:47.02 supportive in Colorado. They help us out whenever there's a 00:44:47.05\00:44:51.22 need. And really beyond our conference our North American 00:44:51.25\00:44:57.09 Division and General Conference you know they support us. When 00:44:57.13\00:45:00.60 you're going door to door you're opening up opportunities for a 00:45:00.63\00:45:05.83 kick back in various ways. You know but we have a structure in 00:45:05.87\00:45:09.57 our church that really supports all of our students in a very 00:45:09.60\00:45:12.71 powerful way. So if I'd say if there's a need, I need more 00:45:12.74\00:45:19.45 workers you know. It's like Jesus needed to pray for them. 00:45:19.48\00:45:23.95 And you know honestly, that's the first two that come in mind. 00:45:23.99\00:45:32.09 Got you. How...Now if someone wants to get involved, right, 00:45:32.13\00:45:35.40 how do they get involved with the literature evangelism? 00:45:35.43\00:45:38.77 Yeah, I would say the first thing you should do if you want 00:45:38.80\00:45:40.64 to get involved in the literature evangelist program 00:45:40.67\00:45:42.84 as you should I would check with your local conference and you 00:45:42.87\00:45:51.21 know Youth Rush is the coined term for multiple different 00:45:51.25\00:45:55.15 conferences use that term. We have our own structure and 00:45:55.18\00:45:57.09 curriculum that we use. But there's a lot of other good 00:45:57.12\00:46:00.49 programs in North America that might not be called Youth Rush. 00:46:00.52\00:46:04.13 They can be called something else but it's literature 00:46:04.16\00:46:06.76 evangelism-focused ministry. So I would check with your local 00:46:06.80\00:46:10.13 conference, see what they're doing. And if they're doing 00:46:10.17\00:46:12.83 something, great, participate in that program. Stay local. I 00:46:12.87\00:46:17.37 think that's great. When you're going door to door one of the 00:46:17.41\00:46:20.54 first questions I get is Where you from? I'm from New Jersey 00:46:20.58\00:46:24.65 What are you in Colorado for? People you know are respectful 00:46:24.68\00:46:29.38 of fun and all my kids from out of state have fun. Everybody's 00:46:29.42\00:46:33.39 successful but it's still awesome to say you're local. So 00:46:33.42\00:46:37.13 that'd be my first step. Check out your local program. If you 00:46:37.16\00:46:40.56 don't have a local program may be ask your church or your 00:46:40.60\00:46:43.47 conference or both of them to start something local. You know 00:46:43.50\00:46:48.30 it'd be awesome to do something for your own territory. And if 00:46:48.34\00:46:52.51 that doesn't work out, you can go to our website YouthRush.com 00:46:52.54\00:46:56.91 or my personal website in Colorado is RMCyouthrush.com 00:46:56.95\00:47:02.68 and you can see all the list of conferences that have a program 00:47:02.72\00:47:06.89 but you can check out our programs there as well. You know 00:47:06.92\00:47:10.49 the bottom line is get involved. Do something. Do something for 00:47:10.53\00:47:16.63 the Lord. 00:47:16.67\00:47:18.00 Now what if someone's sitting there and they're saying like 00:47:18.03\00:47:19.40 well, this is Youth Rush. Like I'm not a youth anymore, like 00:47:19.43\00:47:24.21 I'm old. I'm older. So how can they get involved? 00:47:24.24\00:47:28.54 Well, we have an old rush, no, (giggles) gold rush. You know we 00:47:28.58\00:47:36.69 we all can be literature evangelists. On the way over 00:47:36.72\00:47:39.35 here I had a shirt that said ask me for a Bible pamphlet. 00:47:39.39\00:47:41.59 and if I don't have it I'll give you $5. I made sure I had Bible 00:47:41.62\00:47:45.66 pamphlets because I didn't have $5. You know we checked out 00:47:45.69\00:47:49.56 we went to the zoo, there's a free zoo, and we walked through 00:47:49.60\00:47:54.14 there with my wife and kid. By the way if you're watching um 00:47:54.17\00:47:56.94 what's the kids program called, just skipped my mind. Starting 00:47:56.97\00:48:03.45 with Jesus, Starting with Jesus. It's on 3ABN. My wife is Amanda 00:48:03.48\00:48:07.15 and my daughter Alisa. You can see them every week on that 00:48:07.18\00:48:09.65 program. Monday as we were walking through the zoo and then 00:48:09.68\00:48:14.66 we went to the arch and checked out the arch and it was fun. I 00:48:14.69\00:48:18.86 had at least three or four people walk up to me and they're 00:48:18.89\00:48:21.36 like nice shirt! And I handed them a Bible pamphlet. Hand them 00:48:21.40\00:48:26.00 a little Glow tract, hand them a little book. Everywhere we go we 00:48:26.03\00:48:28.70 can be a literature evangelist You know there's wonderful Glow 00:48:28.74\00:48:34.38 tracts. 3ABN has books, all kinds of sharing books. Pacific 00:48:34.41\00:48:37.65 Press is coming out with a big push for the Great Controversy 00:48:37.68\00:48:41.78 here soon. You know when we're going to the grocery store, when 00:48:41.82\00:48:44.85 we're on trips, when we're just living life we can be 00:48:44.89\00:48:50.59 missionaries. You know and there's golden opportunities 00:48:50.63\00:48:53.53 Everywhere we go we should be prayerfully filling those 00:48:53.56\00:48:57.33 moments up with sharing literature. 00:48:57.37\00:48:58.93 Absolutely. You know I love the fact that you had that shirt on 00:48:58.97\00:49:02.64 because you were like a walking literature evangelist. You know 00:49:02.67\00:49:07.41 you had the shirt on if I don't have a...was it a Bible pamphlet 00:49:07.44\00:49:11.78 A Bible pamphlet. 00:49:11.81\00:49:13.15 then I'll give you $5. That's pretty bold. Because if you 00:49:13.18\00:49:17.39 forgot it in the car they're going to take you up on the $5 00:49:17.42\00:49:20.56 I got nervous. I had one tract left and I told my wife, I said 00:49:20.59\00:49:24.76 hey do you have any more because I'm getting scared here. 00:49:24.79\00:49:27.10 She had one extra in her bag, I had more in my car but I...The 00:49:27.13\00:49:32.03 Bible says he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. That 00:49:32.07\00:49:34.74 verse came to life yesterday for me. 00:49:34.77\00:49:38.64 Absolutely, absolutely. Participating in this work, how 00:49:38.67\00:49:41.21 had that strengthened your faith 00:49:41.24\00:49:42.94 Oh in every single way. Sixteen years old. I mentioned being 00:49:42.98\00:49:48.85 discouraged you know just from the rejection. But I guess 00:49:48.88\00:49:51.75 beside for that aside from the selfishness that came with that 00:49:51.79\00:49:54.46 I also had no faith. You know I mean...and God...I knew God 00:49:54.49\00:50:00.63 wanted me there but I was praying and pleading and begging 00:50:00.66\00:50:03.70 like a little crying kid every day that God would bless me. 00:50:03.73\00:50:06.87 You know I think God wanted me to just relax a little bit, have 00:50:06.90\00:50:11.11 confidence in what I'm going to do. You know James says you're 00:50:11.14\00:50:13.98 like the waves of the sea-driven and tossed by the wind. You look 00:50:14.01\00:50:16.41 in the mirror and you completely forget what kind of man you are 00:50:16.44\00:50:18.81 That was me. I was pleading with God praying like I never had 00:50:18.85\00:50:23.95 before but you know it was not full of faith. You know and so 00:50:23.99\00:50:30.19 this program at 16 years old developed in me confidence in 00:50:30.23\00:50:35.16 what God could do. It really took away all confidence in what 00:50:35.20\00:50:38.63 I could do. You know I've got a full list of weaknesses but God 00:50:38.67\00:50:44.44 has mixed those strengths, those powers. 00:50:44.47\00:50:47.74 His strength is made perfect in our weakness. 00:50:47.78\00:50:49.64 You grow in service. You look at the disciples. They didn't sit 00:50:49.68\00:50:54.12 down at a desk and memorize scripture all day, which is good 00:50:54.15\00:50:58.89 There's a point where we need to study. The disciples' training 00:50:58.92\00:51:04.09 was following Christ. They went out into the community in 00:51:04.13\00:51:08.13 service... 00:51:08.16\00:51:09.53 And they mingled with the people All types of people and yes 00:51:09.56\00:51:15.80 healing and spreading the gospel yeah, yeah, that's awesome. I 00:51:15.84\00:51:19.17 love the fact it strengthened your faith and it enhanced your 00:51:19.21\00:51:23.55 Christian journey, you know, step by step. We've got a little 00:51:23.58\00:51:27.62 bit more to cover but I want you to know how you can get 00:51:27.65\00:51:33.25 involved. I want you to know how you can support and we're going 00:51:33.29\00:51:36.09 to go to an address roll in just a minute and the news break and 00:51:36.12\00:51:40.70 we will be right back. So don't go anywhere. We'll see you 00:51:40.73\00:51:43.23 in a minute. 00:51:43.26\00:51:44.90 If you would like more information about Youth Rush 00:51:44.93\00:51:49.64 you can write to them at 2520 S.
