00:06:53.24\00:06:55.51 Where can I actually take some of the experience that I get 00:06:55.54\00:06:58.11 in high school learning how to weld maybe? 00:06:58.15\00:07:01.65 Or learning how to work on the computer a little bit. 00:07:01.95\00:07:05.75 Where can I take those skills in God's service?" 00:07:05.79\00:07:08.22 Wow, that's good. 00:07:09.36\00:07:11.19 Wow, what about, it's called, Workers for the Harvest. 00:07:11.23\00:07:14.73 Yeah, Workers for the Harvest is really, we want to train 00:07:14.76\00:07:17.90 young people for the harvest. 00:07:17.93\00:07:19.37 You know, we're told by Jesus, you know, a mandate, a directive 00:07:19.40\00:07:24.21 from Jesus, "Pray the Lord of the harvest," He says, 00:07:24.24\00:07:28.24 "to send forth workers." 00:07:28.28\00:07:29.61 We don't want to just stop with the prayer. 00:07:29.64\00:07:32.25 We want to actually move beyond prayer into activity. 00:07:32.28\00:07:34.65 How can we actually prepare a young person for the harvest? 00:07:34.68\00:07:37.35 How do you actually do that? 00:07:37.39\00:07:38.95 How do you get those results? 00:07:38.99\00:07:40.92 So now you're asking me, right? 00:07:41.06\00:07:42.42 Okay, okay. 00:07:42.46\00:07:43.79 ~ So I'm on the spot. How do we actually... 00:07:43.83\00:07:45.43 Well, it's interesting because when I first 00:07:45.46\00:07:48.16 came to Oklahoma Academy, 00:07:48.20\00:07:49.53 there was a previous flight instructor there. 00:07:49.56\00:07:51.63 And he pointed, he was an old cowboy from Oklahoma. 00:07:51.83\00:07:55.24 Just a really neat guy. 00:07:55.27\00:07:56.60 Elder gentleman, he's now passed on and is resting in Jesus. 00:07:56.77\00:08:00.11 But fantastic man of God with a strong vision. 00:08:00.14\00:08:04.01 And he was a local church member in the community 00:08:04.21\00:08:06.55 who had trained students at Oklahoma Academy in aviation. 00:08:06.58\00:08:09.98 Got their pilot's license and things. 00:08:10.02\00:08:11.79 When I joined the program, he and I met and talked 00:08:11.82\00:08:14.26 a little bit about the history and things. 00:08:14.29\00:08:15.99 And he pointed his weathered finger in my, thumped my chest, 00:08:16.02\00:08:18.86 you know, because he said, "You know the problem 00:08:18.89\00:08:23.33 with this program?" 00:08:23.37\00:08:25.13 And he said, I was like, "No. What, what?" 00:08:25.73\00:08:28.94 He said, "Nobody goes to the mission field." 00:08:29.04\00:08:33.38 And I said, "Why not?" 00:08:33.94\00:08:36.14 He said, "They go to the airlines. 00:08:36.75\00:08:38.61 They get their license and they go." 00:08:38.65\00:08:40.08 I said, "Well, how can we change that? 00:08:40.12\00:08:41.88 How can we change that?" 00:08:41.92\00:08:43.25 And he said, he put his finger in my chest and he said, 00:08:43.28\00:08:45.39 "You've got to make them go." 00:08:45.42\00:08:48.12 ~ Wow. 00:08:48.16\00:08:49.49 I said, "Okay, so how do you do that?" 00:08:49.52\00:08:51.33 - Yeah, yeah. ~ "You've got to make them go." 00:08:51.36\00:08:54.20 And I... 00:08:54.40\00:08:55.73 "You've got to make them go." 00:08:55.96\00:08:57.50 And so, so that's really the concept that birthed this 00:08:57.53\00:09:01.74 whole idea, that foundational concept. 00:09:01.77\00:09:05.07 We will train you, only if you go. 00:09:05.37\00:09:08.41 So the concept is, you must go into service 00:09:09.04\00:09:12.25 with the training that you receive at Oklahoma Academy. 00:09:12.28\00:09:14.02 It's an optional program. 00:09:14.05\00:09:15.38 We're not making anybody do this. 00:09:15.42\00:09:16.89 These guys have chosen this mission track training. 00:09:17.09\00:09:20.92 But the caveat to it is, we're not going to let you finish this 00:09:21.12\00:09:25.13 training until you actually go use it 00:09:25.16\00:09:26.63 in God's service somewhere. 00:09:26.66\00:09:28.00 ~ Wonderful. 00:09:28.03\00:09:29.36 And because of that, it actually a little bit of 00:09:29.40\00:09:33.00 holds your feet to the fire mentality there with that. 00:09:33.20\00:09:36.27 And we want to see these kids... 00:09:36.30\00:09:38.47 I believe that God wants their service. 00:09:38.51\00:09:41.61 God needs their service. 00:09:42.01\00:09:43.55 The work at the end time needs young people 00:09:43.58\00:09:46.82 plugged in heart and soul. 00:09:46.85\00:09:48.92 And because of that, we can't just let you 00:09:48.95\00:09:52.19 escape into the world with the training we've given you. 00:09:52.22\00:09:54.99 We want to kind of hold your feet to the fire a little bit. 00:09:55.26\00:09:57.69 So now that we've given you that training, 00:09:57.79\00:09:59.53 we're going to hold you to it and you've got to serve. 00:09:59.56\00:10:01.46 And their commitment is to serve for up to a year 00:10:01.50\00:10:03.67 after they graduate. 00:10:03.70\00:10:05.03 That doesn't mean they can't go on beyond 00:10:05.13\00:10:06.90 somewhere else and do anything else. 00:10:06.94\00:10:08.47 But for a little bit we want to see you use 00:10:08.67\00:10:11.04 that in God's service. 00:10:11.07\00:10:12.97 How does that inspire any of you? 00:10:13.01\00:10:14.34 Any of you want to respond to that? 00:10:14.38\00:10:15.71 Well, I didn't even know about this program 00:10:16.88\00:10:19.41 when I first came to school. 00:10:19.45\00:10:20.78 I had applied like three weeks before school year started. 00:10:20.85\00:10:23.08 But when I came and I learned about the program, 00:10:23.12\00:10:24.92 I got real excited about it because aviation has 00:10:25.22\00:10:28.19 always been a passion of mine. 00:10:28.22\00:10:29.56 Like, growing up my dad has been into aviation. 00:10:29.59\00:10:32.33 And of course, I was with that. 00:10:32.53\00:10:34.33 And I always wanted to fly. 00:10:34.36\00:10:36.23 And then I learned about the mission program. 00:10:36.26\00:10:38.27 That to me was like exactly what I wanted to do 00:10:38.63\00:10:41.67 because I could fly planes, but I could also use it 00:10:41.70\00:10:44.57 in service for God. 00:10:44.61\00:10:45.94 And so, that's what I'm looking forward to most, actually, 00:10:46.11\00:10:48.71 about this program, is being able to go out into the field 00:10:48.74\00:10:51.38 and serve using those skills. 00:10:51.41\00:10:53.45 ~ Anybody want to add anything to that? 00:10:53.48\00:10:55.02 ~ Okay, while you're thinking about it. 00:10:57.09\00:10:58.62 I think Lincoln should tell his story. 00:10:58.65\00:11:00.62 Let's hear it, Lincoln. 00:11:00.66\00:11:01.99 Like, okay. 00:11:02.56\00:11:03.89 Okay, I got to school. 00:11:03.93\00:11:05.29 I applied pretty much right before school year started. 00:11:05.33\00:11:08.23 I got to school, I had no idea, you know, what was going on. 00:11:08.53\00:11:10.83 I had five classes. You can take six. 00:11:11.13\00:11:12.93 One of them was ground school. 00:11:12.97\00:11:14.30 I had no idea what I was getting into. 00:11:14.34\00:11:15.67 And not joking, I thought I was going to learn how to mow lawns. 00:11:16.04\00:11:20.18 That's what ground school is, right? 00:11:20.38\00:11:21.71 And I had no idea what was going on. 00:11:21.98\00:11:24.75 And then I was enrolled into this program. 00:11:24.78\00:11:26.18 And of course, you know, the upperclassmen, 00:11:26.48\00:11:28.88 I was a freshman, so we had juniors who were enrolled 00:11:28.92\00:11:30.72 in this program, and seniors. 00:11:30.75\00:11:32.09 I was like, I want to be like them. Right? 00:11:32.12\00:11:34.16 And you know, this was something really cool. 00:11:34.19\00:11:35.86 I had no idea what I was going to go do with my life. 00:11:35.89\00:11:37.89 And I get to go... 00:11:38.16\00:11:40.33 Like, I was canvassing at that time; literature evangelism 00:11:40.36\00:11:43.77 later on in the school year. 00:11:44.07\00:11:45.40 And then I went and worked with some other ministries. 00:11:45.43\00:11:47.44 And just my passion for doing that just grew. 00:11:47.47\00:11:50.47 The thought of doing something else just seems boring. 00:11:50.51\00:11:53.81 Working a 9 to 5, no. Couldn't be me. 00:11:54.91\00:11:58.05 So just that thought, you know, 00:11:58.68\00:12:01.42 I get to go into the mission field. 00:12:01.45\00:12:02.78 I get training, I go to the mission field. 00:12:02.82\00:12:04.15 I come back and get more training, 00:12:04.19\00:12:05.52 whether that be with the school or elsewhere. 00:12:05.55\00:12:07.56 You know, I can go into the mission field full-time as a 00:12:08.16\00:12:09.96 missionary knowing that I'm serving God, 00:12:09.99\00:12:11.83 and my life is, you know, it's different, it's fulfilling, 00:12:11.86\00:12:15.10 and it's satisfying. 00:12:15.13\00:12:16.46 ~ Yeah, I have to ask you a question. 00:12:16.50\00:12:18.00 So you thought it was about learning how to do lawn work. 00:12:18.03\00:12:20.77 Well, the ground school. 00:12:20.80\00:12:22.14 ~ Yeah, ground school like agriculture. 00:12:22.17\00:12:24.14 Cutting grass and all. 00:12:24.17\00:12:25.51 What happened when you realized, 00:12:25.54\00:12:26.88 "Oh, this is not about cutting grass." 00:12:26.91\00:12:29.21 I mean, ground school, you're talking about airplanes, right? 00:12:30.68\00:12:32.85 So it's like, I mean, you get in there. 00:12:32.95\00:12:35.25 I don't know how many minutes it was into class one, 00:12:35.28\00:12:38.85 and be like, we're talking about airplanes, you know. 00:12:38.89\00:12:41.02 Figuring out what lift was, or whatever. 00:12:41.32\00:12:43.86 I mean, I don't know how long it was 00:12:43.89\00:12:45.53 before I kind of figured out was it was about. 00:12:45.56\00:12:46.90 ~ But you had that epiphany moment, like, "Oh." 00:12:46.93\00:12:48.30 This isn't about cutting lawns. 00:12:48.50\00:12:50.07 I think I need to improve my course description 00:12:51.30\00:12:53.37 on ground school. 00:12:53.40\00:12:54.74 Have you flown? 00:12:56.24\00:12:57.57 Yeah, I've got a few hours. 00:12:57.61\00:12:58.94 ~ That's good. - Yeah, I love it. 00:12:58.97\00:13:00.41 - Wow. - I like that. 00:13:00.91\00:13:02.44 Now I noticed this, how many of you, four boys. 00:13:02.64\00:13:06.15 Do you have any females? 00:13:06.35\00:13:07.78 We do. In fact, our first two graduates from our aviation 00:13:07.82\00:13:11.42 program were two girls that went to Peru 00:13:11.45\00:13:14.96 and served in our Adventist airbase in Peru. 00:13:14.99\00:13:17.73 So their year of service they spent down there. 00:13:18.06\00:13:20.86 They didn't get to do much flying. 00:13:20.90\00:13:22.23 The planes were down at the time. 00:13:22.26\00:13:23.60 But they were good missionaries anyway. 00:13:23.63\00:13:24.97 ~ Oh, I like that. ~ Wow, that's good. 00:13:25.00\00:13:26.33 We've been talking around aviation, 00:13:26.37\00:13:27.70 let's go directly to aviation. 00:13:27.74\00:13:29.07 You have a couple of videos. 00:13:29.10\00:13:30.44 You want to kind of lay the ground work a little bit? 00:13:30.47\00:13:31.81 Tell us a little bit about it. 00:13:31.84\00:13:33.17 You'll show one on the ground, literally ground school, 00:13:33.21\00:13:36.38 some kind of training there. 00:13:36.41\00:13:37.75 We'll lead into that, but talk about the introduction 00:13:37.78\00:13:39.81 to the aviation program. 00:13:39.85\00:13:41.18 Yeah, so the aviation program is really, you know, it's different 00:13:41.22\00:13:45.12 than any other mission aviation, or any other aviation program 00:13:45.15\00:13:48.12 that I've ever seen offered anywhere else. 00:13:48.16\00:13:49.69 Because it really has a mission twist to it. 00:13:49.72\00:13:52.03 And so, I teach the students a lot of things I think that are 00:13:52.23\00:13:54.66 going to be practical for them in mission service. 00:13:54.70\00:13:57.87 And so, I teach them how to measure the runway length. 00:13:58.07\00:14:00.70 For instance, one of the first exercises we have to do 00:14:01.07\00:14:03.61 is actually go out and take steps, pace down the runway 00:14:03.64\00:14:07.58 to measure their pace so that they can figure out 00:14:07.61\00:14:09.91 if they can land at a short strip or not, kind of thing. 00:14:09.94\00:14:13.05 Our airstrip is very, very short. 00:14:13.35\00:14:15.15 She's checking the fuel there in that picture. 00:14:15.58\00:14:19.29 And we have two little airplanes. 00:14:20.42\00:14:22.52 We've got a 1946 Taylor craft that we fly, 00:14:22.56\00:14:25.86 which is a tailwheel. 00:14:26.49\00:14:28.03 And then we also have a Cessna 172, 00:14:28.06\00:14:30.80 which is a much more capable four seat trainer airplane. 00:14:30.83\00:14:32.93 We have a number of other airplanes that are in project 00:14:32.97\00:14:35.10 status as we work on them, and different things as well. 00:14:35.14\00:14:37.94 But we have one unique toy that we play with at the school. 00:14:38.27\00:14:42.18 It was made by a former maintenance man. 00:14:42.21\00:14:44.21 And it's just a, it's a hoot. It is so much fun. 00:14:44.25\00:14:47.08 Every time we take it out, I say, 00:14:47.12\00:14:48.45 "We're going to break this thing." 00:14:48.48\00:14:49.82 Because it's going to be so much fun. 00:14:49.85\00:14:51.19 But it's called a tailwheel trainer. 00:14:51.35\00:14:53.15 And I think we have a little video of that we can pull up. 00:14:53.19\00:14:55.59 I've never seen one of those before. 00:14:55.62\00:14:56.96 Yeah, so this is one of our first students trying it. 00:14:56.99\00:14:59.43 And it teaches the student to use their feet 00:15:00.03\00:15:02.13 to steer with actually. 00:15:02.16\00:15:03.53 Because that's quite a difference. 00:15:03.57\00:15:05.43 You know, you don't use a steering wheel in an airplane 00:15:05.47\00:15:07.60 to steer on the ground; you use your feet, the rudder pedals. 00:15:07.64\00:15:09.60 And so, that little tailwheel trainer, it's a lot of fun. 00:15:09.90\00:15:11.94 But of course, you know, you get guys on there too. 00:15:11.97\00:15:14.61 The girls are a little more docile on it, you know. 00:15:14.64\00:15:16.91 You get guys on there and pretty soon we're running 00:15:16.95\00:15:18.61 slalom courses, you know. 00:15:18.65\00:15:19.98 Yeah, it gets a little out of hand. 00:15:20.78\00:15:22.12 But it's a lot of fun. 00:15:22.15\00:15:23.49 ~ He should have patented that, he'd be probably 00:15:23.52\00:15:24.85 running his own company right now. 00:15:24.89\00:15:26.39 - Right, it's a neat tool. - Tail dragging tool. 00:15:26.42\00:15:28.36 But we just have a lot of fun with the program in general. 00:15:28.39\00:15:31.36 And we have to learn a lot of different things 00:15:31.39\00:15:33.76 to be a mission pilot overseas. 00:15:33.96\00:15:35.56 Most of your time is not spent in the air, actually. 00:15:35.60\00:15:39.03 It's on the ground. 00:15:39.30\00:15:40.64 And if you're a missionary, you have the whole missional aspect. 00:15:40.67\00:15:44.01 The gospel worker aspect of it too. 00:15:44.04\00:15:46.21 So I tell the students, it's not just about flying the plane. 00:15:46.24\00:15:48.54 You come here thinking you're just going to get 00:15:48.58\00:15:49.91 your private pilot's license, well that's part of it. 00:15:49.94\00:15:52.11 But we're missionaries first. 00:15:52.88\00:15:54.22 You've got to learn how to share the gospel first. 00:15:54.42\00:15:56.18 And that's why you'll see on some of our 00:15:56.55\00:15:58.65 t- shirts we're wearing... 00:15:58.69\00:16:00.02 Yeah, you see this. This is our mantra. 00:16:00.06\00:16:01.76 It's, "Flexibility, flexibility, flexibility." 00:16:01.79\00:16:03.99 And often times the students will joke and they'll say, 00:16:04.03\00:16:06.59 "Well, it's really the mission anything program 00:16:06.63\00:16:08.73 instead of the mission aviation program." 00:16:08.76\00:16:10.60 But it's a mission anything program. 00:16:10.97\00:16:12.43 But really, they have to be ready for anything. 00:16:12.77\00:16:14.94 They have to be instant in season and out of season. 00:16:15.14\00:16:17.94 On the spot, right? 00:16:17.97\00:16:19.77 So, yeah. 00:16:20.01\00:16:21.34 ~ How many of you are looking forward 00:16:21.38\00:16:22.71 to going to the mission field? 00:16:22.74\00:16:24.35 ~ Very much so. - Yeah. - Yes. 00:16:24.55\00:16:25.88 ~ You are? - Yes. 00:16:25.91\00:16:27.25 Any particular country in mind that you'd like to go to? 00:16:28.12\00:16:32.12 We've got some options. 00:16:33.19\00:16:34.66 Like, so Bolivia we're looking at. 00:16:35.26\00:16:37.23 Bolivia, Peru, Alaska, and the Philippines. 00:16:37.26\00:16:39.49 But I don't know exactly. 00:16:40.53\00:16:43.16 I'd like to go to Alaska. 00:16:43.20\00:16:44.53 But we'll just see wherever I go. 00:16:44.57\00:16:46.33 There are a lot of other perks to different places, 00:16:46.37\00:16:48.67 like Spanish, Tagalog in the Philippines, 00:16:48.70\00:16:51.17 or whatever that would be. 00:16:51.21\00:16:52.87 Yeah. 00:16:53.51\00:16:54.84 ~ What about you, Andre? 00:16:54.88\00:16:56.21 I personally want to go to the Philippines. 00:16:58.18\00:17:00.45 My mom is from there. 00:17:01.55\00:17:02.98 So it would be really nice to go to the country where I'm from. 00:17:03.02\00:17:07.29 ~ Okay, good. That'd be nice. 00:17:07.32\00:17:09.46 Remember, they had, is it Palau where they had 00:17:09.72\00:17:13.29 the airplane issue going on? 00:17:13.33\00:17:16.50 But they are looking also for a lot of missionaries 00:17:16.53\00:17:19.70 to go there too. 00:17:19.73\00:17:21.07 And Bolivia is interesting because if you've seen the 00:17:21.10\00:17:22.90 mountains of Bolivia that you have to drive through, 00:17:22.94\00:17:24.51 I'd rather fly. 00:17:24.54\00:17:25.87 You know, on those treacherous roads. 00:17:25.91\00:17:28.24 One lane in each direction with two cars. 00:17:28.28\00:17:30.38 I'd rather fly. 00:17:30.75\00:17:32.08 But that's good that you at least have an idea 00:17:32.11\00:17:34.12 of where you'd like to go and what you'd like to do. 00:17:34.32\00:17:37.59 Now we have a little video that's kind of interesting; 00:17:38.05\00:17:41.22 the letter, the call letters that we're going to talk about. 00:17:41.42\00:17:43.73 And if you know where they are, you may mention it, 00:17:43.76\00:17:46.36 but I'd like to talk on this video and tell the 00:17:46.39\00:17:48.46 viewing audience what they're about to see. 00:17:48.50\00:17:50.53 Yeah, this is a video that was just recently sent back 00:17:50.57\00:17:52.73 from two of our graduates from last year: 00:17:52.77\00:17:55.04 Miguel Alonso and Keyan Jaggish. 00:17:55.50\00:17:58.14 They are two young people up there serving Alaska right now. 00:17:58.24\00:18:01.61 And we've opened a project out in Dillingham, 00:18:01.64\00:18:04.41 which is a hub village on the west side of Alaska. 00:18:04.45\00:18:07.68 And they actually have the privilege 00:18:07.88\00:18:09.68 of flying a little Cessna 172. 00:18:09.72\00:18:11.29 They are the pilots for that plane. 00:18:11.32\00:18:12.99 They're just private pilots. 00:18:13.19\00:18:14.52 They don't have extensive training, 00:18:14.56\00:18:15.89 so we've kind of limited their operation sphere 00:18:15.92\00:18:18.16 so we can keep it safe. 00:18:18.19\00:18:19.53 But they are actually flying out from Dillingham to remote areas. 00:18:19.66\00:18:23.63 And they are just Bible workers with wings. 00:18:24.07\00:18:27.40 That's all they're doing. 00:18:27.44\00:18:28.77 They're going out, in fact, this weekend 00:18:28.80\00:18:31.11 they're doing an evangelistic series up there. 00:18:31.14\00:18:33.68 They're starting Pathfinder clubs. 00:18:33.71\00:18:36.28 They've started doing just little prayer meeting. 00:18:36.31\00:18:38.15 Whatever they can do to start making an impact 00:18:38.18\00:18:41.35 in the village there. 00:18:41.45\00:18:42.78 And you can see the area that they're flying into. 00:18:42.82\00:18:45.09 We want to make sure that they stay safe, 00:18:45.12\00:18:46.92 because they're not high time pilots. 00:18:46.96\00:18:48.69 But they can use that skill in a way 00:18:48.89\00:18:51.39 that benefits God and His work. 00:18:51.43\00:18:52.86 And finding those opportunities for them keeps them engaged. 00:18:52.89\00:18:55.96 So I always tell them, you know, if you can't use the airplane, 00:18:56.26\00:18:58.43 you're going to get out there some other way. 00:18:58.47\00:18:59.80 So they use the snow sleds and the snow shoes 00:18:59.83\00:19:03.41 and everything to get out wherever they have to go. 00:19:03.44\00:19:05.87 Do they see any caribou or anything like that? 00:19:06.07\00:19:07.94 Oh yeah, they've seen a moose and all sorts. 00:19:07.98\00:19:10.15 That is so nice. 00:19:10.18\00:19:11.58 And is there any extra cost to the aviation program? 00:19:11.78\00:19:14.85 So that's one of the most unique aspects to our program. 00:19:15.22\00:19:18.15 Because aviation is so expensive. 00:19:18.19\00:19:19.52 Generally students are paying maybe $12,000 to $14,000 00:19:19.55\00:19:22.26 to get their private license nowadays. 00:19:22.29\00:19:23.83 It's just not cheap. 00:19:23.86\00:19:25.19 Our program is really unique in that way, in that there's 00:19:25.23\00:19:28.16 no additional out-of-pocket expense for students 00:19:28.20\00:19:31.57 or their parents. 00:19:31.60\00:19:33.23 Which you say, well how... 00:19:33.27\00:19:34.60 And many people have told me, "You can't do that. 00:19:34.64\00:19:35.97 You can't run a program without somebody paying for it. 00:19:36.00\00:19:39.44 You know, without the students paying for it." 00:19:39.47\00:19:41.01 That's how everybody does it, right? 00:19:41.04\00:19:42.44 Well, we praise God because we started this program on faith. 00:19:42.81\00:19:46.72 And that's how it continues. 00:19:46.92\00:19:48.62 Prayer and faith. 00:19:49.28\00:19:51.35 Interestingly enough, generous supporters 00:19:51.55\00:19:53.82 came forward and said, "If these guys are going to go to the 00:19:53.86\00:19:55.72 mission field, we want to help." 00:19:55.76\00:19:57.09 I like that. 00:19:57.13\00:19:58.46 And so, they helped us purchase the airplane. 00:19:58.49\00:20:00.93 Or the airplanes that we have. 00:20:00.96\00:20:02.30 They help us put the fuel in those airplanes. 00:20:02.33\00:20:04.63 The help us keep them insured. 00:20:04.67\00:20:06.00 They help us keep maintenance on them. 00:20:06.03\00:20:07.47 So as long as those things are provided for, 00:20:07.50\00:20:09.54 I tell the students, fly the wings off them. 00:20:09.57\00:20:11.31 Why do I have to charge you? 00:20:11.34\00:20:12.67 ~ They'll fly the wings off? - They don't fly the wings off. 00:20:12.71\00:20:14.38 Okay, it's a figure of speech. 00:20:15.11\00:20:17.08 Don't fly the wings off. 00:20:17.11\00:20:18.71 But use as much time as you want, really. 00:20:19.65\00:20:22.12 And where can you find that kind of training? 00:20:22.42\00:20:24.89 Now I tell them, it's in God's service 00:20:24.92\00:20:27.59 where He provides those perks, those benefits. 00:20:27.62\00:20:30.46 Because you can get as much training as you want 00:20:30.66\00:20:33.53 within the opportunities that we have available. 00:20:34.00\00:20:37.03 And sometimes, you know, we're held back a little bit 00:20:37.23\00:20:40.60 because like, you know, the plane is down for maintenance 00:20:40.64\00:20:42.84 and we can't... 00:20:42.87\00:20:44.21 We want to go faster, we want to push forward faster. 00:20:44.24\00:20:46.27 But as God provides, we have tremendous 00:20:46.64\00:20:49.61 opportunities for training. 00:20:49.64\00:20:51.15 And it doesn't come in a way and at a price 00:20:51.45\00:20:57.52 that would be typically thought of in the world 00:20:57.55\00:20:59.32 where I have to shell out $14,000 out of my pocket, 00:20:59.35\00:21:02.26 otherwise I can't go. 00:21:02.29\00:21:03.63 Oftentimes I find that people who could not afford to go 00:21:03.66\00:21:06.86 might make the best missionaries. 00:21:07.86\00:21:10.20 ~ Wow. So what's the age limit? 00:21:10.23\00:21:11.87 So the age limit for our aviation program... 00:21:12.07\00:21:14.77 Is? 00:21:14.80\00:21:16.14 I'm trying to find a secret way in here? 00:21:18.17\00:21:19.57 ~ We actually do have an age limit. 00:21:20.98\00:21:22.54 ~ I'm just kidding. Okay. 00:21:22.58\00:21:24.31 No, it's just a minimum limit. 00:21:24.51\00:21:26.31 So you pass that one. 00:21:26.35\00:21:27.68 - So... ~ Okay. 00:21:27.72\00:21:29.32 ~ Sixteen years old to solo. 00:21:29.35\00:21:30.92 Seventeen to fly to get your license. 00:21:30.95\00:21:33.62 That's an FAA limit. 00:21:33.66\00:21:34.99 ~ So all of them are 16 and above right here. 00:21:35.02\00:21:37.56 ~ Yeah, once they solo, and then to get their 00:21:37.59\00:21:40.20 private license at 17, yeah. 00:21:40.23\00:21:41.60 ~ So who does the maintenance for the planes? 00:21:41.63\00:21:43.77 Whoa, that's a hard one. 00:21:43.80\00:21:45.23 Right now I'm the only instructor that we have 00:21:45.27\00:21:49.54 on staff, and I'm the only certified mechanic 00:21:49.57\00:21:51.91 we have on staff right now. 00:21:51.94\00:21:53.27 And the inspector as well. 00:21:53.54\00:21:55.11 So I have to kind of fill all of those roles. 00:21:55.14\00:21:57.55 We are looking desperately to see if anybody would be 00:21:57.58\00:22:00.75 willing to help us, with the same vision, of course, 00:22:00.78\00:22:03.92 of training young people to go into service. 00:22:03.95\00:22:05.89 If they'd be willing to help us, we'd be very happy. 00:22:06.22\00:22:09.12 ~ That's a wonderful time for an appeal. 00:22:09.16\00:22:10.63 If you're in the audience and you are an aviation pilot 00:22:10.66\00:22:14.33 and you're looking to be more mission minded, 00:22:14.36\00:22:16.80 and I'm sure there's probably some remuneration 00:22:16.83\00:22:19.37 included there, you might want to get in touch 00:22:19.40\00:22:21.57 with the Oklahoma Academy. 00:22:21.60\00:22:22.94 We'll let you know how to do that. 00:22:22.97\00:22:24.31 - That's really nice. - Or mechanic. 00:22:24.34\00:22:25.67 - Mechanic. ~ Absolutely. 00:22:25.71\00:22:27.68 Because, you know, just say for example, 00:22:28.08\00:22:29.98 the two young people that landed in Iceland 00:22:30.01\00:22:32.75 just a moment ago... 00:22:32.78\00:22:34.12 We know it wasn't Iceland, but it was Alaska. 00:22:34.15\00:22:35.72 But just to say, "Mr. Brooks, this plane is not flying. 00:22:36.42\00:22:41.49 What do we do?" 00:22:41.52\00:22:42.86 Those are the basic things you teach them what to look at. 00:22:42.89\00:22:45.09 Yeah, and as part of that program, we specifically 00:22:45.13\00:22:48.06 do, all of these guys, by the time they're done, 00:22:48.10\00:22:50.67 they will have changed tires, they will have changed oil, 00:22:50.70\00:22:52.80 they'll change their plugs, they will have serviced the airplane 00:22:52.83\00:22:55.97 and they'll do general simple inspections, things like that. 00:22:56.00\00:22:58.41 There's a lot that a private pilot can 00:22:58.51\00:23:00.11 do on their own airplane to keep it in shape. 00:23:00.14\00:23:01.81 Just, you know, as a general car owner would do 00:23:01.84\00:23:04.08 on their car, that kind of thing. 00:23:04.11\00:23:05.45 ~ Now when you're learning to drive, 00:23:05.91\00:23:07.75 you usually have a driver's instructor that has the 00:23:07.78\00:23:10.62 gas pedal and brakes, and all that, to help. 00:23:10.65\00:23:13.12 How do you do that when you're up in the airplane 00:23:13.42\00:23:16.32 and someone's doing something that's not right? 00:23:16.36\00:23:20.03 - What do you do? ~ Well, usually I throw up my 00:23:20.06\00:23:21.43 arms screaming and jump out the door. 00:23:21.46\00:23:23.13 No, that's doesn't work. 00:23:23.73\00:23:25.07 No, we have dual sets of controls on the airplane. 00:23:25.47\00:23:28.37 So everything is duplicated on both sides the same. 00:23:28.40\00:23:31.57 So yeah, and I can easily take over. 00:23:31.84\00:23:33.94 And I know a few extra moves that if they don't 00:23:33.98\00:23:36.24 let go I can, you know... 00:23:36.28\00:23:37.71 No, I'm just kidding. 00:23:37.75\00:23:39.08 ~ Hold their nose until they pass out and you just take over. 00:23:39.91\00:23:41.98 But that's nice, that's very nice to see that a safe program 00:23:42.88\00:23:46.42 is being offered at Oklahoma Academy. 00:23:46.69\00:23:49.49 And you have a runway there, obviously. 00:23:49.89\00:23:51.36 ~ Yes we do, and our runway right now 00:23:51.69\00:23:54.20 is extremely short. 00:23:54.23\00:23:55.63 If anybody knows about aviation, the ones in our audience here 00:23:55.96\00:23:59.83 probably would be surprised to hear, 00:23:59.87\00:24:02.54 we fly off of 1300 feet. 00:24:02.57\00:24:04.91 1300 feet of grass, right. 00:24:05.24\00:24:07.94 ~ That is tight. - It's very tight. 00:24:08.41\00:24:10.98 ~ I tell people... 00:24:11.01\00:24:12.35 You're already in the mission field. 00:24:12.38\00:24:13.72 ~ We're in the mission field, yeah. 00:24:13.75\00:24:15.08 This is the mission field. 00:24:15.12\00:24:16.45 I mean, this is, yeah we're in the mission field here. 00:24:16.48\00:24:17.82 And if you can fly off of 1300 feet, 00:24:17.85\00:24:19.75 I can pretty much send you anywhere around the world. 00:24:20.06\00:24:21.79 ~ You know, that is mission field training right there. 00:24:21.82\00:24:24.23 You're not going to encounter grass one day. 00:24:24.26\00:24:26.70 When you see asphalt, you're going to get happy. 00:24:26.73\00:24:29.43 ~ Exactly. 00:24:29.46\00:24:30.80 ~ Yeah, I mean, we're training for Sully on 00:24:30.83\00:24:32.40 the Hudson here, you know, really. 00:24:32.43\00:24:33.77 ~ Sully on the Hudson. 00:24:33.80\00:24:35.40 ~ Oh Sully, yeah. I remember him. 00:24:35.87\00:24:37.97 Wow. What about digital media? 00:24:39.01\00:24:40.71 What is that? 00:24:40.74\00:24:42.08 So we offer, I always feel like, you know, aviation is such a 00:24:42.11\00:24:45.85 cool program, but I teach it. 00:24:45.88\00:24:47.45 But I found out after coming to Oklahoma Academy 00:24:47.48\00:24:49.98 and working there for a few years, 00:24:50.02\00:24:51.35 the kids are actually interested in other things beyond aviation. 00:24:51.39\00:24:54.26 It just sometimes blows my mind. 00:24:54.29\00:24:56.39 But it's out there. 00:24:56.42\00:24:58.06 And we're here at 3ABN. 00:24:58.76\00:25:00.13 We want to train students to come work for you guys. 00:25:00.16\00:25:02.10 ~ Become an intern. - Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. 00:25:02.86\00:25:06.74 We've got a program, a fantastic program 00:25:06.77\00:25:10.57 put together to teach digital media and communications 00:25:10.61\00:25:13.51 which offers students training in web design, 00:25:13.81\00:25:17.01 newsletters, communications, tracking our donors, 00:25:17.05\00:25:22.38 how to do podcasts, do photography, 00:25:22.92\00:25:29.09 digital layout design, all of those kinds of things. 00:25:29.12\00:25:32.53 A number of different areas. 00:25:32.56\00:25:33.93 But the idea is to send a young person, a graduate, 00:25:33.96\00:25:37.23 and we've done this already with a number of our graduates, 00:25:37.27\00:25:39.30 send them out to the mission field with those skills. 00:25:39.50\00:25:41.94 How many small struggling ministries out there 00:25:42.04\00:25:44.94 could benefit from somebody helping them with their webpage, 00:25:45.24\00:25:48.51 or sending videos back to their sponsors, 00:25:48.54\00:25:51.21 or things like that? 00:25:51.25\00:25:52.58 You could put a little orphanage on the map, you know. 00:25:52.61\00:25:54.68 So helping them, that's the goal of that program. 00:25:55.08\00:25:57.82 ~ You do webpages. - Oh man. 00:25:57.85\00:25:59.19 You just opened my box, my Pandora box here. 00:25:59.22\00:26:01.79 I'll talk about that after. 00:26:02.82\00:26:04.16 I don't want the program to be about me. 00:26:04.23\00:26:05.69 But how many of you do anything other than 00:26:05.89\00:26:09.06 or have an interest in another area like digital media? 00:26:09.10\00:26:12.70 Anybody here? 00:26:12.73\00:26:14.07 So I'm not officially in any other mission tracts, 00:26:14.80\00:26:18.41 but I do work in the commons office occasionally. 00:26:18.44\00:26:20.94 I do enjoy it. 00:26:20.98\00:26:22.31 I enjoy photography as one of my hobbies actually, 00:26:22.34\00:26:25.91 and stuff like that. 00:26:25.95\00:26:27.28 ~ And Micah was about to say something. 00:26:27.78\00:26:29.48 Yeah, I'm not in the media mission tract, but it's been fun 00:26:29.98\00:26:32.82 with the mission aviation program that we learn to 00:26:32.85\00:26:36.09 do lots of things like write newsletters. 00:26:36.12\00:26:37.73 And we've gotten to do some fun stuff 00:26:37.76\00:26:40.40 a little more on our own, like build a website for it. 00:26:40.90\00:26:43.70 Having stuff to support it. 00:26:43.73\00:26:45.40 ~ I have some recommendations to make afterwards. 00:26:45.43\00:26:47.04 I don't want to sound proprietary, 00:26:47.07\00:26:48.77 but I'll talk to you some. 00:26:48.80\00:26:50.14 And what about you, Lincoln? 00:26:50.17\00:26:51.71 Anything hands-on other than planes? 00:26:51.74\00:26:54.34 So, oh man, I didn't know I was going to talk about this. 00:26:54.38\00:26:56.81 Here we go. 00:26:56.85\00:26:58.18 So I was actually kind of caught off guard 00:26:58.28\00:27:01.48 because I came in... Not very much. 00:28:15.52\00:28:17.86 When I work in the comm's office, 00:28:17.89\00:28:19.23 I'll occasionally work on video projects. 00:28:19.26\00:28:20.96 We went to AFM, so I'm working with the recordings 00:28:21.60\00:28:24.93 and making some edited videos that people can watch 00:28:24.97\00:28:28.54 and have those seminars, and stuff like that. 00:28:28.57\00:28:30.27 So who's GoPro was it on the plane there? 00:28:30.61\00:28:32.57 ~ I think that was some of the students from up in Alaska, 00:28:33.01\00:28:35.54 the graduates. 00:28:35.58\00:28:36.91 It wasn't, wasn't... 00:28:36.95\00:28:38.28 That's something that really... 00:28:38.38\00:28:39.71 So the digital media program, the website, pictures, 00:28:39.75\00:28:42.58 design, newsletters, all that, it gives a skillset. 00:28:42.62\00:28:48.06 I mean, when we went to school, 00:28:48.09\00:28:50.33 we didn't get this kind of stuff. 00:28:50.36\00:28:51.89 No, never. 00:28:51.93\00:28:53.50 Well, we did have photography. 00:28:53.53\00:28:55.16 You know, the dark room. And that was it. 00:28:55.20\00:28:57.97 ~ Quick question, John. 00:28:58.00\00:28:59.33 Isn't this the focus of Adventist education? 00:28:59.37\00:29:02.10 Yes, equipping. 00:29:02.14\00:29:03.57 To produce young people to go out and finish this work. 00:29:03.61\00:29:06.84 - Amen. - I like that. 00:29:06.88\00:29:08.21 You're equipping. Hands-on. 00:29:08.24\00:29:10.25 Not just intellectual. 00:29:10.28\00:29:11.61 I mean, you talk about math, and science, and history. 00:29:11.65\00:29:13.52 All relevant. 00:29:13.55\00:29:15.25 Basic things which are, in some sense, depending on 00:29:15.28\00:29:17.82 what their trajectory is, it's going to work out. 00:29:17.85\00:29:19.59 Somebody might leave to be a historian instead of a pilot. 00:29:19.62\00:29:21.72 Or maybe, you know, a developer of some new digital software. 00:29:22.19\00:29:26.23 But it's all about flexibility, flexibility, flexibility. 00:29:26.63\00:29:31.10 ~ And you also offer construction and music. 00:29:31.13\00:29:33.27 Construction and music, and we're adding additional tracts 00:29:33.30\00:29:36.54 in agriculture, elementary education. 00:29:36.57\00:29:39.77 Our dream is to offer a healthcare tract as well. 00:29:39.81\00:29:42.91 We don't quite have the staffing to offer that yet. 00:29:42.94\00:29:45.35 But all these other programs, we have a farm program, 00:29:45.38\00:29:48.65 which many of our schools have had in the past, you know. 00:29:48.68\00:29:51.15 We have a little elementary school on campus that 00:29:51.39\00:29:53.62 teaches our students, and things. 00:29:53.66\00:29:55.42 But at the same time, you know, the concept is, 00:29:55.79\00:30:00.96 why not just use these as development grounds 00:30:01.00\00:30:04.90 to get kids out into service lines in those areas? 00:30:05.10\00:30:09.30 So yeah, we teach construction. 00:30:09.34\00:30:11.14 And we've got our first construction graduate 00:30:11.34\00:30:14.18 graduating this year. 00:30:14.21\00:30:15.54 Actually, he's heading down to Belize to work with the 00:30:15.58\00:30:18.21 MOVE program down there for the next year. 00:30:18.25\00:30:20.48 And then from there on, and he's very excited about construction. 00:30:20.78\00:30:24.39 I'm just amazed. 00:30:24.42\00:30:25.75 These young people, when they catch a vision 00:30:25.79\00:30:28.42 and they get excited, they're eager to move on. 00:30:28.46\00:30:31.33 So they learn these skills at Oklahoma Academy, 00:30:31.59\00:30:33.36 and they're actually viable skills 00:30:33.40\00:30:35.16 they can use in the field. 00:30:35.20\00:30:36.53 ~ That was real welding. 00:30:36.67\00:30:38.00 ~ Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. 00:30:38.13\00:30:40.54 ~ Any of you done that? 00:30:40.90\00:30:42.24 - We've all done that. ~ All of you? 00:30:42.27\00:30:43.87 ~ You re-weld the wheels on the plane. 00:30:44.17\00:30:45.74 Just recently we were working on building an engine 00:30:47.54\00:30:49.71 lift for one of our planes. 00:30:49.74\00:30:51.11 To take out the engine and work on it. 00:30:51.15\00:30:52.95 ~ Isn't this exciting? 00:30:52.98\00:30:54.32 I mean, when I went to school, it was pretty much 00:30:54.35\00:30:57.42 book learning, in New York City. 00:30:57.45\00:30:59.92 Not hands-on. 00:30:59.95\00:31:01.29 The only hands-on thing was football, basketball. 00:31:01.36\00:31:03.86 Which, you know, nobody, very few students go on to be 00:31:04.16\00:31:07.66 professional basketball players and football players. 00:31:07.70\00:31:09.46 But you leave with a skill that you can use 00:31:09.86\00:31:12.00 at your own decision. 00:31:12.03\00:31:13.67 You don't have to work for a web design company. 00:31:14.17\00:31:16.50 You could do your own private web... 00:31:16.54\00:31:18.01 You could one day own your own plane. 00:31:18.04\00:31:19.54 Anybody has that aspiration? 00:31:19.57\00:31:21.34 ~ Yep. - Definitely. 00:31:21.54\00:31:23.58 ~ Because I know you said you're just not doing 9 to 5. 00:31:23.78\00:31:26.15 No. 00:31:26.18\00:31:27.52 ~ It's not for you. - Nope. 00:31:27.55\00:31:28.88 Full-time ministry. 00:31:28.92\00:31:30.25 So what about music? 00:31:30.65\00:31:32.35 Tell me about the music program you have. 00:31:32.39\00:31:34.72 Yeah, so actually some of our students here, 00:31:34.76\00:31:37.99 actually all of our students are very musical 00:31:38.03\00:31:40.90 and enjoy the music program as well. 00:31:40.93\00:31:44.33 And Andre, I was going to say, when you were asking about 00:31:44.67\00:31:47.97 communications and digital media, he has actually 00:31:48.00\00:31:51.11 been working in our music department as well. 00:31:51.14\00:31:53.34 And so, the music mission tract is a new program 00:31:53.64\00:31:59.35 that we have because we teach music at our school. 00:31:59.65\00:32:01.95 And many of our students are interested in that. 00:32:01.98\00:32:03.59 Where can they take that skillset? 00:32:03.62\00:32:05.72 How could they plug that into the end time work? 00:32:06.15\00:32:09.99 Where could they go with that? 00:32:10.03\00:32:11.36 So we've developed a line, a tract we say, 00:32:11.39\00:32:16.20 to put a young person with music talents 00:32:16.40\00:32:19.13 in directing choral, or teaching instruments, 00:32:19.17\00:32:22.64 or performance, or voice. 00:32:22.67\00:32:25.44 Different things that we kind of combine together 00:32:25.47\00:32:28.48 into a specialized training to say, okay, and then not just 00:32:28.51\00:32:32.81 training with these skills, but let's actually work with a 00:32:32.85\00:32:36.05 mission program, say, Adventist Frontier Missions in Thailand 00:32:36.08\00:32:39.05 where they actually have a school teaching music. 00:32:39.09\00:32:42.59 How can we build missionaries for you guys to use 00:32:42.62\00:32:46.19 in service straight from our school 00:32:46.49\00:32:49.00 and use those skills that we teach at our school? 00:32:49.40\00:32:51.77 How can we put those into service? 00:32:51.80\00:32:53.13 So that's our music mission tract; and it's unique. 00:32:53.17\00:32:55.64 What other schools are out there doing that, really? 00:32:55.67\00:32:58.04 I don't know where you can get that. 00:32:58.07\00:32:59.87 ~ Any of you play an instrument? 00:33:00.21\00:33:01.84 ~ Yeah. ~ Yeah. 00:33:01.88\00:33:03.21 What do you all play? Let's hear it. 00:33:03.24\00:33:04.58 ~ Which one? 00:33:06.82\00:33:08.15 So I play the piano, the violin, the guitar, 00:33:08.18\00:33:11.75 the banjo, the mandolin. 00:33:11.79\00:33:13.12 And I am learning the base guitar, and the trumpet. 00:33:13.69\00:33:16.73 ~ Wow. ~ What about the radio? 00:33:16.76\00:33:19.09 That one too. 00:33:20.40\00:33:21.73 I should say, what about the podcast? 00:33:22.53\00:33:24.97 You know, this generation is so advanced. 00:33:25.00\00:33:27.44 The things you have nowadays on your phone you can just 00:33:27.70\00:33:29.60 sing along with the song on the phone or just look up any song. 00:33:30.01\00:33:32.87 We didn't have that growing up. - No. 00:33:32.91\00:33:34.38 We pretty much had basic stuff. 00:33:34.41\00:33:36.04 But that's really good. What about you? 00:33:36.24\00:33:38.01 Yeah, what about you? 00:33:38.05\00:33:39.38 I play trumpet, piano, guitar. 00:33:39.41\00:33:42.58 I'm hoping to learn some more brass instruments 00:33:42.78\00:33:44.35 as some point, like French horn. 00:33:44.39\00:33:45.72 I've messed around on a few other instruments occasionally, 00:33:46.99\00:33:48.86 like recorder, stuff like that. 00:33:48.89\00:33:50.46 You have to think of portability too, like the tuba. 00:33:50.96\00:33:53.83 You don't buy a Volkswagen if you play a tuba. 00:33:55.46\00:33:57.47 And what about you, Lincoln? 00:33:59.07\00:34:00.40 I play alto saxophone and guitar. 00:34:00.44\00:34:02.80 ~ Nice, okay. ~ That's good. 00:34:02.84\00:34:05.77 Micah? 00:34:05.81\00:34:07.14 I play the piano and a little bit of the organ. 00:34:07.18\00:34:09.58 And I've messed around with the guitar a bit too. 00:34:09.78\00:34:12.11 ~ So is that with the foot pedals? 00:34:12.15\00:34:13.58 ~ Yeah. 00:34:13.62\00:34:14.95 Wow, you have like an extra brain. 00:34:14.98\00:34:16.38 You've got to think... 00:34:17.39\00:34:19.32 It is different because when you're playing and you hear a 00:34:19.92\00:34:21.36 wrong note, you have to think, was it this keyboard, 00:34:21.39\00:34:23.63 this keyboard, or my foot? 00:34:23.66\00:34:24.99 That's right. That's really good. 00:34:25.33\00:34:26.90 So music is a big part of the program. 00:34:27.26\00:34:29.46 ~ Absolutely, absolutely. 00:34:29.50\00:34:30.87 And you know, as a school, we have our touring vocal choir, 00:34:30.90\00:34:35.97 and our special groups, and our strings, 00:34:36.00\00:34:37.87 and a hand bell choir. 00:34:37.91\00:34:39.84 Beautiful, we produce beautiful music. 00:34:39.87\00:34:42.04 But again, the goal comes back to, where can we go with this? 00:34:42.34\00:34:45.21 Where can we take it? How can we plug it in? 00:34:45.25\00:34:47.22 ~ Really, when you think about it, there's no limitation. 00:34:47.25\00:34:49.88 Because in this world today music is significantly 00:34:49.98\00:34:52.89 a part of everything we do. 00:34:52.92\00:34:54.26 I mean, Christian music has taken off. 00:34:54.59\00:34:57.73 In our day and age, it was like, you know, record player. 00:34:58.43\00:35:00.86 But they're coming back. 00:35:02.16\00:35:03.53 They're trying to resurrect records 00:35:04.20\00:35:05.77 and making them digital nowadays. 00:35:05.97\00:35:07.64 But music... 00:35:08.07\00:35:09.50 ~ How many staff members do you have? 00:35:09.54\00:35:11.37 That's a good question, honey. 00:35:11.41\00:35:12.74 So we have about 30 staff that work with the school. 00:35:12.77\00:35:15.48 And that's kind of a unique question because 00:35:16.08\00:35:18.48 we have about as many students. 00:35:18.51\00:35:19.91 We're growing, our student body is growing. 00:35:19.95\00:35:21.82 We're looking to have more students this next year. 00:35:21.85\00:35:23.59 But with about a one to one ration between staff 00:35:23.85\00:35:28.02 and students, most schools don't run that tight of a ratio. 00:35:28.06\00:35:31.49 It offers a lot of mentoring opportunities. 00:35:31.96\00:35:34.40 ~ What's your capacity? 00:35:35.33\00:35:36.70 We have a capacity of about 50 or so. 00:35:37.07\00:35:39.87 We're looking to be about 45. 00:35:39.90\00:35:41.24 Once we start to get above that, we really feel that we 00:35:41.27\00:35:44.44 lose that personal mentoring that we really want to keep. 00:35:44.47\00:35:48.01 So we really don't have that perspective where 00:35:48.04\00:35:50.45 want to be, you know, 150 or 300 students. 00:35:50.48\00:35:53.25 We want to keep it small. 00:35:53.45\00:35:54.85 If anyone else wants to start another school with 00:35:54.88\00:35:58.65 30 students in it, I think it's a great idea. 00:35:58.69\00:36:00.62 ~ Right, break it off and expand. 00:36:00.96\00:36:02.36 Break it off and expand. 00:36:02.39\00:36:03.73 And so Lincoln, you are involved in ground school. 00:36:03.76\00:36:06.19 Are you the one that cut the runway grass? 00:36:06.23\00:36:08.43 I've done it before. 00:36:09.60\00:36:11.30 We've all taken part in that. 00:36:11.33\00:36:13.44 ~ Because I've thought about that. 00:36:13.47\00:36:14.80 I mean, during the cold months you get snow. 00:36:14.84\00:36:17.67 Two times a year. 00:36:18.27\00:36:19.97 Have you flown, have you taught the students 00:36:21.18\00:36:23.31 to fly in bad weather? 00:36:23.35\00:36:25.81 So yes and no. 00:36:26.11\00:36:28.38 We do, but we also very highly guard it. 00:36:28.42\00:36:31.52 Because we want to be safe. This is an introductory course. 00:36:31.55\00:36:33.79 It is primary training for the students. 00:36:33.92\00:36:37.36 They're young, very inexperienced. 00:36:37.39\00:36:39.29 And I don't want to push the limits too far yet. 00:36:39.63\00:36:42.26 But definitely as we get into the instrument rating, 00:36:42.40\00:36:44.60 the commercial ratings, we build up time and experience, 00:36:44.63\00:36:47.00 it gets more challenging. 00:36:47.04\00:36:48.37 And then we can get into things like canyon turns, 00:36:48.40\00:36:50.31 and bucket drops, and flour bombing, 00:36:50.34\00:36:52.57 and those kinds of things that actually are 00:36:52.61\00:36:54.64 useful in the mission field. 00:36:54.68\00:36:56.18 ~ Define what that is, because somebody might be asking. 00:36:56.41\00:36:59.25 So canyon turns, definitely a maneuver, 00:36:59.28\00:37:02.78 a very, very tight turn where you slow down to your minimum 00:37:02.82\00:37:06.35 speed and then make a very tight turn. 00:37:06.39\00:37:07.79 In case you like in a box canyon or if you're into a situation 00:37:07.82\00:37:10.69 where you need to get out very, very quickly. 00:37:10.73\00:37:12.73 A bucket drop, you know, is a maneuver that was actually 00:37:13.76\00:37:17.33 perfected by missionaries in the past 00:37:17.37\00:37:19.47 where they could actually lower supplies straight to the ground 00:37:19.50\00:37:22.60 from a funnel shape. 00:37:22.87\00:37:24.31 As you fly the airplane in a circle and lower a line down 00:37:24.34\00:37:26.98 with an object on it, or a bucket on it with things in it, 00:37:27.01\00:37:30.81 and you can keep the bucket stationary as you fly around. 00:37:30.85\00:37:34.18 And of course, airdrops are a neat way to 00:37:35.22\00:37:37.99 deliver supplies too where you fly over and drop something out. 00:37:38.02\00:37:40.79 But you have to know how to be a little accurate with that. 00:37:40.82\00:37:43.66 I've had some experience in the Philippines. 00:37:43.96\00:37:45.59 I remember when I was a missionary pilot 00:37:45.63\00:37:47.06 flying in the Philippines. 00:37:47.10\00:37:48.43 ~ Were you a missionary pilot? - Oh yes. 00:37:48.46\00:37:49.90 Yeah, and flying in the Philippines there 00:37:50.90\00:37:53.80 and trying to deliver supplies by airdrop. 00:37:54.00\00:37:56.71 And we had a door that swung open on the plane 00:37:56.74\00:37:59.11 and it would hold itself up, and so we could 00:37:59.14\00:38:00.68 just throw things out the door. 00:38:00.71\00:38:02.14 Fascinating. It was a lot of fun. 00:38:02.18\00:38:04.01 And it always takes two people. 00:38:04.28\00:38:06.41 It's almost better done if you have a radio to coordinate 00:38:06.92\00:38:09.58 with the ground and they can tell you when to drop things. 00:38:09.62\00:38:11.79 It actually works better because as a pilot, 00:38:11.82\00:38:13.59 or as a person throwing things out, you kind of gauge. 00:38:13.62\00:38:16.22 We splattered spaghetti sauce all over the mountain side. 00:38:17.29\00:38:20.16 - Spaghetti sauce? ~ Yeah. 00:38:20.20\00:38:21.80 ~ Oh just toothpaste, everything. 00:38:21.83\00:38:23.90 ~ Just, it went everywhere. 00:38:23.93\00:38:25.87 ~ Like, literally. Literally everywhere. 00:38:25.97\00:38:28.10 Those kids, but they know the mountain so well, 00:38:28.14\00:38:30.51 they ran out through the jungle and the forest 00:38:30.54\00:38:32.47 and they found everything. 00:38:32.51\00:38:33.84 But I'll tell you what. 00:38:33.88\00:38:35.21 It was a mess. It was an absolute mess. 00:38:35.24\00:38:36.78 ~ I'm sitting here, I'm just in my mind, 00:38:36.81\00:38:39.25 I have a really active mind, I can hear all the stories. 00:38:39.55\00:38:43.05 You know, somebody is cutting their lawn, and all of a sudden 00:38:43.39\00:38:45.52 they're covered in spaghetti sauce. 00:38:45.55\00:38:46.89 ~ It's like, did a flower explode? 00:38:49.36\00:38:51.19 That's interesting; but that's the fun part of aviation. 00:38:51.99\00:38:54.50 You know, learning these things in a constructive way. 00:38:54.53\00:38:57.57 Have you guys practiced that on the campus? 00:38:57.60\00:39:00.34 ~ No. ~ No. 00:39:00.37\00:39:01.70 - We haven't yet. - Look out below. 00:39:01.97\00:39:03.37 Probably not any time soon. 00:39:03.41\00:39:04.74 We probably won't be doing that for a few more years now. 00:39:06.88\00:39:08.78 Probably not. 00:39:08.91\00:39:10.25 Where have you been in the mission field? 00:39:10.28\00:39:12.11 ~ So my wife and I started out, I graduated from 00:39:12.41\00:39:15.48 Andrews University in 1999. 00:39:15.52\00:39:17.42 And through my time there, 00:39:18.15\00:39:19.85 I graduated from the aviation program there. 00:39:19.89\00:39:23.73 I was part of Adventist World Aviation's first graduating 00:39:23.93\00:39:26.96 class from a mission training program 00:39:27.00\00:39:29.86 that was very similar to this program, ironically. 00:39:29.90\00:39:32.60 And we took on a project to develop an aviation program 00:39:32.83\00:39:38.17 for the Philippines. 00:39:38.21\00:39:39.54 So the flight work that's going on there now 00:39:39.57\00:39:42.44 actually started many, many, many years ago 00:39:42.74\00:39:45.01 with a little airplane that we took over there. 00:39:45.18\00:39:47.32 And we flew in the Philippines for about six years. 00:39:47.35\00:39:50.65 Then we turned that project over to others. 00:39:50.69\00:39:52.39 And then others came along and helped. 00:39:52.42\00:39:53.79 Now there's a number of helicopters and other 00:39:53.82\00:39:55.46 organizations there, and many things going on there. 00:39:55.49\00:39:58.06 It's just beautiful to see where God has taken that. 00:39:58.16\00:40:00.60 We also flew in Guyana in South America. 00:40:00.63\00:40:04.97 And that was a tremendous experience as well. 00:40:05.47\00:40:09.00 I tell you what, whenever my mind reverts now 00:40:09.04\00:40:12.11 to the need for mission aviation around the world, 00:40:12.14\00:40:14.68 I kind of revert back to Guyana and the needs there. 00:40:15.04\00:40:17.61 Very remote areas accessible only by aviation. 00:40:17.65\00:40:21.28 Similar to Alaska, I would think, you know. 00:40:21.32\00:40:23.35 Yeah, but fascinating. The needs are tremendous. 00:40:23.39\00:40:26.35 Lots of opportunities. 00:40:26.39\00:40:27.72 Young people want to get involved? 00:40:27.76\00:40:29.32 Lots of opportunity. 00:40:29.36\00:40:30.69 ~ I know, because there's people in the jungle 00:40:30.73\00:40:32.56 and far out regions. 00:40:32.59\00:40:35.20 How do you get to them? 00:40:35.80\00:40:37.20 Usually through a plane or helicopter, 00:40:37.23\00:40:39.80 or something like that. 00:40:39.83\00:40:41.17 When you think about the impact, you've said this 00:40:41.70\00:40:46.64 a number of times in the program, 00:40:46.68\00:40:48.24 how do you use these skills. 00:40:48.54\00:40:51.01 Think about some of the needs the school has 00:40:51.91\00:40:54.52 as you're expanding. 00:40:55.02\00:40:56.35 What are some of the needs you have? 00:40:56.65\00:40:58.09 Let's start with the aviation program. 00:40:58.12\00:40:59.72 Well, with the aviation program, we of course... 00:40:59.75\00:41:04.03 Equipment and supplies, you know, money, 00:41:05.19\00:41:07.23 you kind of think of those things maybe at the very 00:41:07.26\00:41:09.50 beginning of kind of the outset as being, you know, 00:41:09.53\00:41:12.03 "We really need money, we really need equipment." 00:41:12.07\00:41:14.20 Those are material things. 00:41:15.07\00:41:16.64 And in the end, they don't matter as much as people. 00:41:16.67\00:41:19.94 Right? People are the important thing. 00:41:19.97\00:41:22.08 And so I really have to start there. 00:41:22.48\00:41:24.68 People who can help mentor the next generation. 00:41:25.88\00:41:28.78 These guys have potential. 00:41:28.98\00:41:30.45 These guys have excitement, enthusiasm. 00:41:30.49\00:41:33.19 They have vision for where God is taking them. 00:41:33.22\00:41:35.42 God is speaking to their hearts, He's drawing them. 00:41:35.46\00:41:37.29 And you can already see, I'm just one person, 00:41:37.33\00:41:40.30 these are four guys representative of the program. 00:41:40.80\00:41:42.76 There are actually ten students that are in our program 00:41:42.80\00:41:45.13 this year training for missions, not all in aviation. 00:41:45.17\00:41:47.17 In all the various areas. 00:41:47.20\00:41:48.54 But those guys exponentially magnify my little efforts. 00:41:48.80\00:41:54.84 Right? And that's just me. 00:41:54.88\00:41:56.24 You talk about God's work in general, 00:41:56.28\00:41:58.48 if we get a generation of young people, 00:41:58.51\00:42:01.32 an army of youth rightly trained, what powerful 00:42:01.35\00:42:06.09 difference that can make in the world. 00:42:06.12\00:42:07.82 If you catch that vision, it's mind blowing. 00:42:07.86\00:42:11.96 It's mind blowing. How far could that go? 00:42:11.99\00:42:14.50 And so I really think, if there are more people out there who 00:42:14.53\00:42:17.77 would be willing to join us in helping to inspire this 00:42:17.80\00:42:21.00 next generation, in music ministry, 00:42:21.04\00:42:23.17 in healthcare ministry, in food service ministry, 00:42:23.47\00:42:27.28 in elementary education ministry, agriculture ministry, 00:42:27.61\00:42:30.68 so many opportunities for young people to plug in 00:42:30.71\00:42:33.45 to God's service here at the end of time. 00:42:33.48\00:42:35.12 And that's really, probably what our biggest need is, 00:42:35.42\00:42:38.25 is just for people who are like-minded in this vision 00:42:38.29\00:42:40.76 to join us and help say, "Yeah, we want to mentor these 00:42:41.06\00:42:43.32 young people and help them go because it's going to 00:42:43.36\00:42:45.46 magnify our efforts exponentially." 00:42:45.49\00:42:48.13 We have just, you know, we said we're flying off of 00:42:49.20\00:42:52.10 1300 feet of grass right now, which is really phenomenal. 00:42:52.13\00:42:56.40 But God has blessed us with the opportunity to purchase 00:42:56.44\00:42:58.87 a little extra land now, which is really just, 00:42:58.91\00:43:01.01 really been a big blessing. 00:43:01.04\00:43:03.08 ~ Yeah, so we can extend the runway. 00:43:03.11\00:43:04.65 And that's going to offer a lot more opportunities 00:43:04.68\00:43:06.51 for these guys to be able to solo fly from our airstrip. 00:43:06.55\00:43:08.88 Right now I won't let them fly solo off of our strip. 00:43:08.92\00:43:11.75 ~ "Mr. Brooks, the runway is ending." 00:43:11.79\00:43:13.96 There's no second chances on our runway 00:43:14.96\00:43:17.16 as it is right now. 00:43:17.19\00:43:18.53 But this additional property will allow us 00:43:18.56\00:43:20.80 to expand that runway twice as long. 00:43:20.83\00:43:22.53 Which is going to be very, very nice and allow 00:43:22.73\00:43:24.33 us to do a lot more things on our airstrip. 00:43:24.37\00:43:27.47 ~ Also increase your fleet. 00:43:28.50\00:43:30.51 You could get more planes to train in. 00:43:30.54\00:43:31.97 ~ Exactly, yep. 00:43:32.01\00:43:33.34 And more opportunity to build staff housing, 00:43:33.38\00:43:36.91 do construction development, offer new programs 00:43:36.95\00:43:39.85 in various areas, and different things, 00:43:39.88\00:43:41.35 because we have this additional space to work in now. 00:43:41.38\00:43:44.05 So developing that is part of our big thrust right now. 00:43:44.25\00:43:48.32 Let me go to some of these students here that have been 00:43:48.79\00:43:50.43 sitting here so nicely and communicating. 00:43:50.46\00:43:53.90 Talk to me, Andre, about the thing that impacts you most 00:43:54.66\00:43:57.20 at Oklahoma Academy. 00:43:57.23\00:43:58.67 Well, I feel like my walk with God especially has grown 00:43:59.20\00:44:03.51 since I've been with the school. 00:44:03.54\00:44:04.87 Because the spiritual atmosphere there is really good. 00:44:05.17\00:44:08.78 And the music, I've never been more into music. 00:44:10.91\00:44:14.98 It's a wonderful thing. 00:44:16.08\00:44:17.42 ~ That's good; your walk with God and 00:44:17.45\00:44:18.79 expanding your music interest. 00:44:18.82\00:44:20.16 Is there a pastor there? 00:44:20.19\00:44:21.52 There is. We have a lay pastor on campus, yeah, 00:44:22.09\00:44:25.23 who helps shepherd. 00:44:25.26\00:44:26.73 We have two pastors actually now. 00:44:26.76\00:44:28.16 - Oh, two. Alright. - Yeah. 00:44:28.20\00:44:29.76 - Yeah, five or six nurses. - What about you, Ethan. 00:44:29.80\00:44:31.93 - There are a lot of nurses? - Yeah, I don't know why. 00:44:32.67\00:44:34.77 In case you get sick. 00:44:35.84\00:44:37.17 - For those who get airsick. - Exactly. 00:44:37.21\00:44:38.54 Ethan. 00:44:39.57\00:44:40.91 What has impacted me the most? 00:44:40.94\00:44:42.28 Probably somewhat like Andre. 00:44:42.31\00:44:44.05 My spiritual walk has grown. 00:44:44.08\00:44:45.71 In the mission tract program, every Sunday we'll meet 00:44:46.78\00:44:49.28 and we'll talk, like what we were talking about earlier 00:44:49.58\00:44:52.29 a little bit, about how the program is funded. 00:44:52.32\00:44:54.06 Mr. Brooks, in the meeting we go through and he teaches us 00:44:54.09\00:44:59.53 how to raise our support base. 00:44:59.56\00:45:01.40 How we do it is, we each go out and we get people to 00:45:01.43\00:45:05.87 join our mission, basically, and help us 00:45:05.97\00:45:09.00 in supporting God's work. 00:45:09.04\00:45:10.54 That's how we do it. 00:45:10.57\00:45:11.91 But also, what we do there is we study this Bible 00:45:11.94\00:45:14.61 study called, Experiencing God. 00:45:14.64\00:45:15.98 We also do it for Sabbath school. 00:45:16.01\00:45:17.35 And we study basically how to do God's work, 00:45:17.38\00:45:21.95 and how to experience God, you could say. 00:45:22.38\00:45:25.29 ~ That's wonderful, wonderful. 00:45:25.32\00:45:26.65 - It is. - That's good. 00:45:26.69\00:45:28.02 And the reason I ask that question is because 00:45:28.06\00:45:29.99 I know that people watching and listening to the program 00:45:30.43\00:45:33.06 probably are saying, "Well, they really love to fly, 00:45:33.26\00:45:34.96 but do they have a connection with God?" 00:45:35.00\00:45:36.87 And that's a wonderful thing. 00:45:36.90\00:45:38.23 I don't know, did we ask about your mission statement? 00:45:38.90\00:45:41.14 Did you share your mission statement? 00:45:41.57\00:45:43.30 "We're training workers for the harvest." 00:45:43.34\00:45:45.01 Okay, there it is. 00:45:45.04\00:45:46.37 And so, Lincoln, what about you? 00:45:46.44\00:45:49.31 So, I met the Lord here at Oklahoma Academy. 00:45:49.34\00:45:52.65 And that was just, I mean, that's incredible. 00:45:52.68\00:45:55.88 But just besides that fact, 00:45:55.92\00:45:57.65 besides the spiritual atmosphere, and the music, 00:45:57.69\00:46:00.16 and the opportunities, I really enjoy in the academics 00:46:00.19\00:46:05.43 aspect of it, languages, foreign languages. 00:46:05.46\00:46:08.13 ~ Did you say four languages? - Foreign. 00:46:08.46\00:46:11.27 I wish four. I'm working on that. 00:46:11.60\00:46:13.77 So essentially it's just like, I mean, I get to fly. 00:46:13.80\00:46:17.81 And that's great. 00:46:17.84\00:46:19.44 And I'm going to go to the mission field for a year, 00:46:19.47\00:46:20.81 and I'm super excited about that. 00:46:20.84\00:46:22.18 But while I'm here, I get to actually like, you know, 00:46:22.21\00:46:24.68 learn something that in my mind I see as useful. 00:46:24.71\00:46:26.45 Like people, they look at their high school classes, 00:46:26.48\00:46:27.88 they're like, "Why am I doing this?" 00:46:27.92\00:46:29.25 But I sit there and I'm in my language classes, 00:46:29.28\00:46:31.55 and sometimes it's frustrating because this is difficult, 00:46:31.59\00:46:34.26 I don't want to sit here and memorize this, 00:46:34.29\00:46:35.62 but it's like, this is useful. 00:46:35.66\00:46:36.99 Like, I'm in my first year of Spanish, 00:46:37.09\00:46:39.36 and my third year of French. 00:46:39.39\00:46:40.73 And I'm going to take Spanish II over the summer. 00:46:40.90\00:46:42.73 And I'm going to graduate high school with 00:46:42.76\00:46:44.10 seven years of language. 00:46:44.13\00:46:45.47 And I want to take that abroad. 00:46:45.50\00:46:46.94 And I think that's useful, because the best way to 00:46:46.97\00:46:49.90 connect with people is to speak their language. Right? 00:46:49.94\00:46:52.17 And I've really been blessed by that. 00:46:52.21\00:46:55.44 And that's one of the biggest reasons I'm here at this school. 00:46:55.48\00:46:57.71 ~ So you could fly with Spanish all over South America. 00:46:57.75\00:47:01.05 ~ Yeah. ~ And other parts of the world. 00:47:01.08\00:47:02.65 ~ And even into French countries. 00:47:03.12\00:47:05.15 ~ Northern Africa. Yeah. 00:47:05.19\00:47:07.19 I didn't know they offer languages, Spanish... 00:47:07.22\00:47:10.46 ~ Yeah, it's great. 00:47:11.33\00:47:12.66 And just as an aside, you know it's interesting, because 00:47:12.69\00:47:15.46 many students will say, "Why do I have to learn this? 00:47:15.50\00:47:18.13 I'm never going to use this anyway." 00:47:18.17\00:47:20.64 You know, "Why do I have to take algebra? 00:47:20.67\00:47:22.34 I'm never going to use algebra?" 00:47:22.37\00:47:23.71 "Why do I have to learn French? 00:47:23.74\00:47:25.07 I'm never going to speak French." 00:47:25.11\00:47:26.44 No, you're learning algebra because you've got to do a 00:47:26.47\00:47:29.88 weight and balance problem on an airplane 00:47:29.91\00:47:31.75 while you're on the fly. 00:47:31.78\00:47:33.11 I mean, like literally. 00:47:33.15\00:47:34.48 You're learning French because you're 00:47:34.52\00:47:35.85 going to north Africa, right? 00:47:35.88\00:47:37.22 And you need this in God's service. 00:47:37.25\00:47:39.15 Every one of our classes start to take very pinpointed, 00:47:39.19\00:47:42.89 you know, directional meaning, very strong focus 00:47:42.92\00:47:46.16 when we apply them to God's service. 00:47:46.19\00:47:47.86 You said that as a pilot, weight and balance. 00:47:48.76\00:47:51.10 That's something so significant for survival. 00:47:51.13\00:47:53.47 Your take-off weight is not your landing weight. 00:47:53.50\00:47:55.54 And in an emergency, you just can't just turn around 00:47:55.57\00:47:57.64 if you have all that take-off weight. 00:47:57.67\00:47:59.51 You've got to dump some of that fuel. 00:47:59.91\00:48:01.48 - That's, you know, connect. ~ Yeah, You've got to... 00:48:01.51\00:48:04.45 ~ That's really good. That's really good. 00:48:05.25\00:48:06.82 We've done over a million miles flying. 00:48:06.85\00:48:09.25 That's the miles credited, but it's probably 00:48:09.28\00:48:12.09 easily more than two million miles. 00:48:12.12\00:48:13.46 Flying all over the world. 00:48:13.89\00:48:15.22 With American Airlines they gave us a million mile little thing. 00:48:15.26\00:48:18.09 So easily about 150,000 miles a year. 00:48:19.29\00:48:21.96 And doing that. 00:48:22.40\00:48:24.03 But now Micah, what about you? 00:48:24.07\00:48:25.43 ~ I really enjoy the mission aspect of the training. 00:48:25.87\00:48:28.74 Because you can go learning to fly anywhere. 00:48:28.77\00:48:31.14 It's even not that hard to find an Adventist high school 00:48:31.17\00:48:34.08 where you can learn to fly, but I love how 00:48:34.11\00:48:35.74 we learn to be missionaries, not just fly the plane. 00:48:35.78\00:48:38.58 And just especially in our mission tract on Sunday 00:48:39.01\00:48:42.15 we learn stuff like donor ministry, 00:48:42.35\00:48:44.02 we learn how to do newsletters, and all the behind-the-scenes 00:48:44.05\00:48:47.36 work that we're going to need as missionaries. 00:48:47.39\00:48:49.06 And I like that they'll actually send us out to the field. 00:48:49.42\00:48:52.03 And just how the whole program is operated like 00:48:52.59\00:48:55.33 it's a missions program. 00:48:55.36\00:48:56.70 And we have to trust God, and we get to see God at work. 00:48:57.00\00:48:59.70 Just our everyday life at school. 00:48:59.83\00:49:01.47 Just whether we go fly, we just got to trust God 00:49:01.84\00:49:04.61 and see Him provide all our needs. 00:49:04.64\00:49:06.27 That's so exciting. 00:49:06.68\00:49:08.01 ~ And it is exciting, amen. 00:49:08.04\00:49:09.71 I'm excited about the future, honey. 00:49:09.74\00:49:11.18 These young people, we want to meet more of them. 00:49:11.21\00:49:13.45 Next time bring ten. 00:49:13.48\00:49:14.82 But I know my wife would say, bring one of the female pilots. 00:49:14.98\00:49:17.55 Yeah, absolutely. I wish we could do that. 00:49:17.59\00:49:19.32 We'll definitely plan to do that in the future. 00:49:19.35\00:49:21.39 But what would you say some of your greater needs 00:49:21.42\00:49:23.32 are right now, as we address our viewing and listening audience? 00:49:23.36\00:49:26.49 So we're developing the infrastructure 00:49:26.53\00:49:29.43 right now to take this to the next level, basically. 00:49:29.63\00:49:33.54 To provide even more service for young people. 00:49:33.57\00:49:35.87 And even service for young people who 00:49:35.90\00:49:37.77 may not be in high school anymore, 00:49:37.81\00:49:39.27 who may still say, "How can I opt into that program?" 00:49:39.47\00:49:42.54 And building that infrastructure is the next step for the school. 00:49:42.84\00:49:46.78 Really, where do we take the vision beyond just training 00:49:46.82\00:49:50.55 academically and vocationally at our high school? 00:49:50.59\00:49:52.42 How can we take it out into the world, 00:49:52.45\00:49:54.39 but build it into a larger, more stable program? 00:49:54.42\00:49:58.23 Building that new property into an infrastructure 00:49:58.26\00:50:00.63 is really where we're looking to develop. 00:50:00.66\00:50:02.90 We're looking to build a hanger, literally, 00:50:02.93\00:50:05.93 where we can actually service our airplanes. 00:50:06.13\00:50:07.54 Right now our airplanes are stored under a little 00:50:07.57\00:50:09.50 woodshed actually, which is kind of challenging 00:50:09.54\00:50:12.94 for us to work on them in the weather, and things. 00:50:12.97\00:50:15.11 You say, "Well that's the mission field," you know. 00:50:15.14\00:50:16.88 And it is the mission field, but we'd like to develop it into 00:50:16.91\00:50:19.51 a more robust program that's actually able to 00:50:19.55\00:50:23.25 work on airplanes, service planes from the mission field, 00:50:23.45\00:50:25.95 host missionaries coming back and forth. 00:50:26.32\00:50:28.52 Those types of things. 00:50:28.56\00:50:29.89 And how do you deal with the weather in Oklahoma? 00:50:30.13\00:50:32.99 I know you're not in Tornado Alley, 00:50:33.03\00:50:35.10 but you're not far from it. 00:50:35.13\00:50:36.46 ~ Well, we don't fly into tornadoes. 00:50:36.50\00:50:37.83 But we wait for those to go by. 00:50:37.87\00:50:40.30 God protects His own. 00:50:40.34\00:50:41.67 He's really blessed us on campus there. 00:50:41.70\00:50:43.27 And we do have days that are very windy. 00:50:43.30\00:50:45.74 And we just reset our thresholds and we fly when we can. 00:50:45.77\00:50:48.51 ~ That's really, really great. 00:50:48.71\00:50:50.31 They can handle the wind? Do you teach them that? 00:50:50.35\00:50:52.35 - Depending on the... ~ Yes, certain levels. 00:50:52.38\00:50:54.68 Oh, I see. 00:50:54.98\00:50:56.32 Past a certain nautical mile you don't want to... 00:50:56.35\00:50:58.55 Well about 70 miles nautical you're not going up in that. 00:50:58.92\00:51:01.79 Not in a Cessna 172. 00:51:01.82\00:51:03.19 You'll have some fun landing it. 00:51:04.26\00:51:05.79 It'd be great to take off, but 00:51:06.09\00:51:07.73 you've got to bring it back down. 00:51:07.76\00:51:09.10 ~ Take off from a standstill. - What was that? 00:51:09.13\00:51:11.27 You could take off from a standstill in that wind. 00:51:11.30\00:51:12.97 Exactly. 00:51:13.00\00:51:14.37 Well you know, we have an address roll that we're going to 00:51:14.40\00:51:16.57 share with you, because this has been an exciting program. 00:51:16.60\00:51:19.14 You might want to support it financially, 00:51:19.54\00:51:21.58 or maybe you're thinking about sending a student 00:51:21.61\00:51:24.01 to the Oklahoma Academy. 00:51:24.05\00:51:25.75 I would say, Oklahoma Academy is ok. 00:51:25.78\00:51:28.65 Here is the information that you need to find out 00:51:29.08\00:51:30.89 more about the school and how to participate. 00:51:30.92\00:51:33.39 If you would like to contact or know more about 00:51:34.79\00:51:36.89 Oklahoma Academy, you can do so in the following ways. 00:51:36.93\00:51:39.83
