Praise Jesus, amen. 00:03:04.98\00:03:09.12 You know, we have a chance to make an impression 00:03:09.15\00:03:12.49 in a child's heart. 00:03:12.52\00:03:13.99 And back when I was a teacher, pre-school teacher, 00:03:14.02\00:03:17.96 many years went past, and I bumped into a mother 00:03:18.69\00:03:23.06 at a store, and she said, "Are you Miss Idalia?" 00:03:23.26\00:03:27.87 And I said, "Yes, I am." 00:03:28.07\00:03:29.87 And she said, "You know, I want to tell you that my son 00:03:29.90\00:03:32.97 has never forgotten you. 00:03:33.01\00:03:34.34 He still talks about you." 00:03:34.38\00:03:35.88 So your ministry makes my heart warm to think about 00:03:36.08\00:03:41.15 how you're impacting and impressing the hearts of 00:03:41.18\00:03:44.29 these tender hearts that perhaps don't have any hope, 00:03:44.32\00:03:48.92 no direction, and no one to love on them. 00:03:49.12\00:03:52.96 But here you are with arms open wide, and just receiving them, 00:03:52.99\00:03:57.17 and providing that love and support that they all need. 00:03:57.20\00:04:00.37 So praise God for you. 00:04:00.40\00:04:01.77 Amen, amen. 00:04:01.80\00:04:03.14 Well, we're going to hear more about REACH International. 00:04:03.17\00:04:05.27 Some of you have heard of REACH International before, 00:04:05.31\00:04:08.44 and some of you have even supported and helped 00:04:08.54\00:04:10.91 some of those million children that have gone through 00:04:11.21\00:04:14.68 REACH International over the last 50 years or more. 00:04:14.72\00:04:18.49 And so, we would like to now ask you to join us in prayer. 00:04:18.52\00:04:22.69 And we want to remind you that you can be a 00:04:22.79\00:04:25.03 prayer partner for 3ABN. 00:04:25.06\00:04:27.73 We receive a lot of prayer requests at 3ABN. 00:04:27.80\00:04:30.33 And our pastoral ministries is active every day 00:04:30.67\00:04:34.54 receiving calls from people all around the world 00:04:34.57\00:04:38.37 And we encourage you to be a prayer partner. 00:04:38.47\00:04:41.38 And you can go to the 3ABN webpage, 00:04:41.41\00:04:44.11 and there you can sign up to be a prayer partner. 00:04:44.15\00:04:47.42 And you'll receive a small amount of the prayer requests 00:04:47.45\00:04:50.45 every week so that you can join us in prayer. 00:04:50.49\00:04:52.79 Also, you can also pray for the requests that are 00:04:52.82\00:04:56.02 put on the screen or are mentioned over the radio. 00:04:56.06\00:04:59.33 It's a ministry that you can also do. 00:04:59.36\00:05:02.00 But let's go to the Lord in prayer now. 00:05:02.26\00:05:04.20 Our loving heavenly Father, we thank You, Lord, 00:05:06.30\00:05:09.80 that this is another day of blessing that You have given us, 00:05:10.41\00:05:13.38 another day of opportunity. 00:05:13.41\00:05:15.44 And today great things can happen in our lives 00:05:15.71\00:05:19.08 if we open our hearts to You. 00:05:19.11\00:05:21.55 And we pray, Lord, that those that are listening to my voice 00:05:21.75\00:05:25.39 will hear Your call through this program or through 00:05:25.79\00:05:30.13 some other means that You will provide today. 00:05:30.16\00:05:33.19 We pray that as they listen to You, Lord, 00:05:33.70\00:05:36.16 just as it says in John 3:20, they will open the door 00:05:36.26\00:05:40.14 and let Jesus in. 00:05:40.17\00:05:41.84 And we pray, Lord, that in this program 00:05:41.87\00:05:44.17 Your name will be honored and glorified. 00:05:44.37\00:05:46.27 We ask for the blessing of Your Holy Spirit, 00:05:46.31\00:05:48.98 that we may speak those things that You know should be said. 00:05:49.18\00:05:52.91 And we also ask, Lord, that You will consider every request 00:05:52.95\00:05:56.28 that has come to 3ABN. 00:05:56.32\00:05:57.69 There are many, many needs. 00:05:58.15\00:05:59.65 And we ask You, Lord, to consider each and every 00:06:00.12\00:06:02.46 one of them, and we ask You to work in each and every 00:06:02.49\00:06:05.06 one of them through the ministry of Your holy angels, 00:06:05.09\00:06:07.60 through the ministry of Your children all around the world, 00:06:07.63\00:06:10.37 through influences, and through many means that 00:06:10.40\00:06:14.07 You have at Your disposal. 00:06:14.10\00:06:15.64 You have infinite resources, and we pray that You will 00:06:16.40\00:06:19.57 supply the needs of Your children, bring comfort 00:06:19.61\00:06:22.78 and strength where it is needed. 00:06:22.81\00:06:24.55 We pray, Lord, for marriages, to receive the blessing 00:06:24.58\00:06:28.22 they need to continue going forward. 00:06:28.25\00:06:29.98 And we pray for those that are as lost sheep, 00:06:30.19\00:06:33.49 that You will reach out to them once again 00:06:34.29\00:06:36.69 to return to the fold. 00:06:36.73\00:06:38.53 We thank You for 3ABN. 00:06:38.73\00:06:40.33 We pray that You will continue to bless this ministry 00:06:40.36\00:06:42.96 to reach people all over the world. 00:06:43.00\00:06:45.13 We ask You for these things in the holy and blessed name 00:06:45.17\00:06:49.60 of Jesus, amen. 00:06:49.64\00:06:51.31 Amen. 00:06:51.34\00:06:52.67 Well, we do have the Scripture reading that we'd like to 00:06:53.14\00:06:55.54 share with you. 00:06:55.58\00:06:56.91 And Idalia, would you like to lead us to that? 00:06:56.95\00:06:59.21 Yes, and we have Proverbs 22:6. 00:06:59.41\00:07:04.95 It's a Bible text that we have heard for many years. 00:07:04.99\00:07:09.12 Many know it by heart. 00:07:09.16\00:07:10.63 "Direct your children unto the right path 00:07:10.66\00:07:13.19 and when they are older they will not leave it." 00:07:13.23\00:07:16.77 So this is something that we as older people, 00:07:16.80\00:07:22.40 older than a child, it could be a teenager 00:07:22.60\00:07:26.74 influencing in the life of a two-year-old, right, 00:07:26.78\00:07:30.21 so what we do and what we encourage, 00:07:30.25\00:07:33.08 we direct the children, we train up the children to do good. 00:07:33.28\00:07:38.62 And they will not depart from the good path. 00:07:38.65\00:07:41.09 Amen, amen. 00:07:41.12\00:07:42.46 We would like to ask sister Lois, sister Cheryl, 00:07:42.49\00:07:45.06 who would like to comment about this verse? 00:07:45.26\00:07:47.20 Anything that comes to your mind at this moment. 00:07:47.23\00:07:50.73 I think that's an excellent verse, 00:07:50.93\00:07:53.27 and I think it's absolutely the truth. 00:07:53.30\00:07:55.87 What children learn, they may depart from it for a time, 00:07:56.44\00:08:01.71 but they come back. 00:08:01.74\00:08:03.11 They come back later. 00:08:03.31\00:08:04.85 And we have that hope that they will come back later, 00:08:05.05\00:08:07.85 no matter what happens in the meantime. 00:08:07.88\00:08:10.45 ~ Amen. Thank you so much. 00:08:10.49\00:08:13.22 Well, we'd like to go now to a song, a hymn, 00:08:13.66\00:08:20.56 that we have selected for you. 00:08:20.76\00:08:22.23 It's a musical offering. 00:08:22.26\00:08:23.77 And we have brother Sam Ocampo. 00:08:23.80\00:08:26.13 And he's going to share... 00:08:26.17\00:08:27.50 What's the name of the song, Idalia? 00:08:27.54\00:08:28.87 He Looked Beyond My Fault. 00:08:28.90\00:08:31.41 Amen, amen. 00:13:12.25\00:13:13.59 Well, we thank Sam Ocampo for that song. 00:13:13.62\00:13:15.89 He Looked Beyond My Fault 00:13:16.09\00:13:17.76 And I'd like to read to you some of the words of this song. 00:13:17.79\00:13:21.76 It's a wonderful song. 00:13:21.80\00:13:23.13 It says, "Amazing grace shall always be my song of praise. 00:13:23.16\00:13:29.07 For it was grace that brought me liberty. 00:13:29.27\00:13:32.37 I do not know just why He ever came to love me so. 00:13:32.41\00:13:37.08 He looked beyond my faults and saw my need. 00:13:37.11\00:13:40.78 And I shall forever lift my eyes to Calvary 00:13:40.82\00:13:44.69 to view the cross where Jesus died for me. 00:13:44.72\00:13:47.96 How marvelous the grace that caught my falling soul. 00:13:47.99\00:13:53.60 He looked beyond my faults and saw my need." 00:13:53.63\00:13:57.23 Praise the Lord. 00:13:57.27\00:13:58.60 And we have people with us that have seen a need, 00:13:58.63\00:14:02.97 and children that need help in many ways. 00:14:03.00\00:14:08.84 And so we are talking to REACH International. 00:14:08.88\00:14:12.51 They have come to share with us the ministry 00:14:12.55\00:14:16.08 that God has put in their hearts to fulfill among the children. 00:14:16.12\00:14:20.19 Over a million children have already been helped. 00:14:20.22\00:14:22.82 We have Cheryl Jacob-Roeske with us. 00:14:23.19\00:14:25.86 She is the president of REACH International. 00:14:25.89\00:14:28.03 And I will say it, she has inherited the smile 00:14:28.06\00:14:31.53 of her mother, Jasmine Jacobs, which I met many years ago. 00:14:31.57\00:14:35.17 She came to 3ABN, I actually had the privilege 00:14:35.20\00:14:37.17 to interview her. 00:14:37.21\00:14:38.54 And what a marvelous ministry, REACH International. 00:14:38.71\00:14:42.94 Tell us about REACH International. 00:14:42.98\00:14:44.48 Why is it called, REACH International? 00:14:45.15\00:14:47.35 And how did it begin? 00:14:47.38\00:14:48.78 So why is it called, REACH International? 00:14:49.22\00:14:51.25 Render Effective Aid to Children 00:14:51.29\00:14:55.22 That's the meaning of REACH. 00:14:55.26\00:14:58.09 My parents started it in 1973. 00:14:58.13\00:15:01.30 We're celebrating 50 years now. 00:15:01.33\00:15:03.47 They took me to India and they were doing workshops 00:15:04.80\00:15:11.51 in various schools. 00:15:11.54\00:15:13.34 And one morning at 10 o'clock this little boy 00:15:13.84\00:15:17.71 comes into our room to clean. 00:15:17.75\00:15:19.45 And my mom being a school teacher is looking at him 00:15:19.48\00:15:21.95 and said, "What are you doing here? 00:15:21.98\00:15:23.72 You need to be in school." 00:15:23.75\00:15:25.19 But this child, with tears in his eyes, tells her, 00:15:25.65\00:15:28.62 "I just don't have the money to go to school." 00:15:28.66\00:15:31.33 So she asked the lady who we were staying with, she said, 00:15:31.79\00:15:35.56 you know, "What's the story behind this child? 00:15:35.76\00:15:37.50 What is he doing here?" 00:15:37.53\00:15:39.63 She said, "Well, I don't really know. 00:15:39.93\00:15:41.50 I found him sleeping on my doorstep this morning, 00:15:41.54\00:15:44.21 so I fed him and I put him to work." 00:15:44.54\00:15:47.84 So when they left that area, they paid for 00:15:48.18\00:15:52.25 this child to go to school. 00:15:52.28\00:15:53.62 When we came home, they got together with a group of friends 00:15:53.65\00:15:56.65 around our dining table, and they said, 00:15:56.69\00:15:59.62 "Let's help these kids in India. These kids need to be helped." 00:15:59.65\00:16:02.62 So I think the first school, REACH school in India 00:16:02.66\00:16:06.46 had about 22 or 23 children that they found sponsors 00:16:06.49\00:16:11.33 in that Berrien Springs area to help these children. 00:16:11.37\00:16:14.84 ~ Praise the Lord. ~ Amen, praise the Lord. 00:16:14.87\00:16:16.30 That was the first one in India. 00:16:16.50\00:16:18.87 ~ The first school was in India. 00:16:19.07\00:16:20.88 Now my father is from India, my mother is from Sri Lanka. 00:16:20.91\00:16:24.15 And my dad was very poor. 00:16:24.51\00:16:28.08 His mom died giving birth to twins. 00:16:28.12\00:16:32.75 And he was walking along the street in Bangalore one evening 00:16:33.29\00:16:38.69 and he saw this tent. 00:16:39.13\00:16:40.60 You know, being a kid, he was curious, 00:16:40.63\00:16:42.36 "What's going on in this tent?" 00:16:42.40\00:16:43.87 ~ What in the world is going on in that tent? 00:16:43.90\00:16:45.30 There's no entertainment back in those days. 00:16:45.33\00:16:47.60 No videos or anything like this. 00:16:47.64\00:16:49.10 So he wants to go inside, but then he notices that 00:16:49.14\00:16:51.81 everybody going into this tent, they're dressed really well. 00:16:51.84\00:16:55.64 "And me, I don't have clothes. I'm in rags." 00:16:55.68\00:16:59.78 He says, "I distinctly heard a voice say to me, 00:17:00.92\00:17:05.09 'Go in when it's dark.'" 00:17:05.12\00:17:06.86 ~ Say again? "Go in when it is dark." 00:17:06.89\00:17:09.99 He heard this voice speaking directly to him, 00:17:10.03\00:17:12.93 "Go in when it's dark." 00:17:12.96\00:17:14.53 So he slipped into the back row when it was dark. 00:17:15.36\00:17:17.93 The speaker in that tent was Pastor Joe Crews. 00:17:18.47\00:17:21.37 ~ Pastor Joe Crews. 00:17:21.40\00:17:22.84 Praise the Lord. 00:17:23.71\00:17:25.04 For those that don't know, Pastor Joe Crews 00:17:25.07\00:17:26.68 was the president and founder of Amazing Facts. 00:17:26.71\00:17:30.88 Amazing Facts, yes. 00:17:31.48\00:17:32.81 Yes, so Pastor Crews took an interest in my father. 00:17:32.98\00:17:36.58 And he got in touch with his mother-in-law and said, 00:17:36.89\00:17:40.22 "Can you help this child? He's got potential. 00:17:40.26\00:17:43.73 I want to help him." 00:17:43.76\00:17:45.09 So she hadn't met him, she hadn't seen him, 00:17:45.13\00:17:47.20 but she sent money for my father to go to school. 00:17:47.23\00:17:49.90 So, you know, he went through college, came to Michigan State, 00:17:50.23\00:17:54.27 Both my parents got doctorates from Michigan State. 00:17:54.30\00:17:57.07 And since then, you know, one million children have been 00:17:57.81\00:18:02.11 helped through REACH International. 00:18:02.14\00:18:04.11 ~ Amen, amen. ~ Praise the Lord. 00:18:04.15\00:18:05.65 ~ One million children. That's impressive. 00:18:05.68\00:18:08.18 - And it began in the year 19... ~ 1973. 00:18:08.22\00:18:11.82 Yeah, they really wanted to give back. 00:18:12.12\00:18:14.82 "God has blessed so much. 00:18:14.86\00:18:17.13 You know, what can we do now in return?" 00:18:17.49\00:18:20.80 ~ So many lives, Idalia. 00:18:20.83\00:18:23.03 There are only about 554 people here 00:18:23.06\00:18:27.87 in Thompsonville Illinois. 00:18:27.90\00:18:30.67 So you're talking about almost a population of a country. 00:18:30.71\00:18:34.24 It's amazing. 00:18:34.28\00:18:36.04 The first reached child, His ID number is 001. 00:18:36.08\00:18:39.91 His name is Alex. 00:18:40.62\00:18:41.98 This child was dipping sticks into vats of chemicals 00:18:42.02\00:18:47.66 to make matchsticks seven days a week. 00:18:47.69\00:18:49.69 Child labor laws. 00:18:51.06\00:18:52.66 You know, safety preventions. None of that is there. 00:18:54.26\00:18:57.17 So on his way home he'd be seeing children, 00:18:57.47\00:19:00.30 wealthier children, in swimming pools, playing ball. 00:19:00.34\00:19:04.94 And he said, "Why am I not like these children?" 00:19:04.97\00:19:08.14 You know, "What's wrong with me? How come, how come it's... 00:19:08.41\00:19:11.15 So he's pray to God, "I want a swimming pool. 00:19:11.18\00:19:13.62 Please, give me a swimming pool." 00:19:13.65\00:19:15.32 So he came to our REACH school, went through the program, 00:19:16.25\00:19:21.02 and God gave him all the swimming pools 00:19:21.42\00:19:24.56 he could possibly want. 00:19:24.59\00:19:26.09 He lives in Minnesota, the land of many lakes. 00:19:26.19\00:19:30.40 And he's a VP in a bank. 00:19:30.43\00:19:32.77 And there's many other stories of children. 00:19:33.87\00:19:36.54 We have a pharmacist in Arizona, we've got a mission president, 00:19:36.57\00:19:41.31 many, many pastors, school teachers. 00:19:41.94\00:19:45.65 It's really inspiring to see what a little bit of 00:19:45.68\00:19:50.65 helping hand can do and get these kids up and going. 00:19:50.69\00:19:54.29 ~ Amen. ~ That is fascinating. 00:19:54.32\00:19:56.49 Yes, REACH International started in India. 00:19:56.52\00:19:58.89 ~ Started in India. - How many other countries? 00:19:58.93\00:20:00.83 ~ We're about 20 countries around the world. 00:20:00.86\00:20:02.86 Honduras, Nicaragua, Africa, Kenya, Tanzania. 00:20:02.90\00:20:07.44 ~ Praise the Lord. ~ Amen. 00:20:08.20\00:20:09.97 Now I can't help but share what I envision 00:20:10.01\00:20:17.35 or what came to my mind, to my heart, 00:20:17.38\00:20:19.51 is that Jesus came as a child here. 00:20:19.71\00:20:22.65 He was born; one baby, one child. 00:20:22.68\00:20:26.35 And what a difference He has made in our lives. 00:20:26.65\00:20:30.66 And so I think of this child that appeared in the home 00:20:31.09\00:20:36.23 where you went to visit in India. 00:20:36.26\00:20:38.57 And through that child a ministry was born 00:20:38.60\00:20:42.20 to help a million other children. 00:20:42.50\00:20:45.17 And the count keeps going on. 00:20:45.21\00:20:47.28 So praise God for that. 00:20:47.31\00:20:49.58 We have Lois here who is the director of the 00:20:49.61\00:20:53.48 REACH Village of Hope Orphanage in Tanzania. 00:20:53.55\00:20:58.35 And praise God that the ministry has grown so much 00:20:58.39\00:21:01.22 and so many little children have been blessed. 00:21:01.26\00:21:03.69 Now I'd like to know, what age group do you serve? 00:21:03.73\00:21:08.60 I mean, is there a limitation? Describe this picture. 00:30:00.90\00:30:02.93 ~ Oh, this picture is some money that was donated 00:30:02.96\00:30:05.33 for us to have a church. 00:30:05.37\00:30:06.80 There's one picture that shows all of our children 00:30:06.84\00:30:09.34 crammed into our classroom at the primary school 00:30:09.37\00:30:12.94 for church services. 00:30:12.97\00:30:14.51 And someone who saw that picture or one similar to it 00:30:14.54\00:30:17.71 said, "Let me give some money toward a church." 00:30:17.75\00:30:20.32 And so we have begun with the foundation 00:30:20.95\00:30:24.25 for a new church for us. 00:30:24.29\00:30:26.39 Because we use the building that had been initially a chapel 00:30:26.72\00:30:31.29 to make the primary school administration building. 00:30:31.33\00:30:33.93 This is the secondary school that we finished these 00:30:34.23\00:30:39.00 classrooms that the children are working on. 00:30:39.03\00:30:40.90 These are our children that are up there. 00:30:40.94\00:30:42.64 Part of the job is to water down those cement blocks 00:30:42.84\00:30:46.54 that have just been laid with fresh cement 00:30:46.57\00:30:49.14 so that they will dry and stand properly and not crumble easily. 00:30:49.34\00:30:54.08 And they like to do that. 00:30:54.35\00:30:56.38 They like to be up there. 00:30:56.42\00:30:57.75 We get to the back of the truck and put barrels in the back. 00:30:58.02\00:31:01.82 We fill it with a hose in the truck already, 00:31:01.86\00:31:04.49 and then they use buckets and they empty it out 00:31:04.53\00:31:06.39 to another kid in a bucket, 00:31:06.43\00:31:07.93 and they carry it up there and pour the water down the walls. 00:31:07.96\00:31:11.13 ~ How exciting. 00:31:11.17\00:31:12.50 I'm sure they feel so helpful and so smart and so important. 00:31:12.53\00:31:17.67 And I think that's what we need to do with children. 00:31:18.01\00:31:19.91 Give them tasks. 00:31:19.94\00:31:21.28 ~ This is what happened in the days of Samuel the prophet. 00:31:21.31\00:31:22.88 You remember the story about the ax head that floated. 00:31:22.91\00:31:25.55 ~ Yes. ~ That's right. 00:31:25.58\00:31:26.92 So they're getting to do the same thing that was done 00:31:26.95\00:31:29.48 in the Old Testament days. 00:31:29.52\00:31:30.85 To help with the building of their own school. 00:31:30.89\00:31:32.65 ~ Amen, amen. 00:31:32.69\00:31:34.02 Well, one thing is for sure in all these countries. 00:31:34.06\00:31:37.16 The children are blessed, I'm going to call it blessed, 00:31:37.73\00:31:42.06 with the opportunity to live in an atmosphere, 00:31:42.10\00:31:44.97 Christian atmosphere, live a, what would you call a, 00:31:45.00\00:31:48.64 perhaps a higher quality of life. 00:31:48.74\00:31:50.94 Perhaps in the homes where... 00:31:50.97\00:31:54.38 Many of these kids would probably be in the streets, 00:31:54.94\00:31:57.61 trying to live outside and people mistreating them. 00:31:58.95\00:32:02.82 But here they have a home atmosphere. 00:32:02.85\00:32:05.32 And you say there's a house mother for every 20 children. 00:32:05.35\00:32:08.52 They get the sense of family that they wouldn't have at home. 00:32:08.56\00:32:14.26 And unfortunately, there are stories of parents 00:32:14.30\00:32:17.63 that use their children, and even sell them as slaves. 00:32:17.67\00:32:20.94 It's just horrible. 00:32:20.97\00:32:22.30 So this, REACH International, is doing a marvelous work 00:32:22.34\00:32:26.84 to rescue these children from a life of suffering 00:32:26.88\00:32:30.95 in the streets and in some homes. 00:32:30.98\00:32:33.65 And I just praise the Lord for the work that is being done, 00:32:33.68\00:32:36.05 and for those of you that have supported this ministry. 00:32:36.08\00:32:38.22 Thank you for the support. 00:32:39.35\00:32:40.76 And we encourage you to continue to support, 00:32:40.79\00:32:42.56 because these children have to eat. 00:32:42.59\00:32:44.69 These children need the basic needs that we all need 00:32:44.73\00:32:49.93 to be able to every day have a family atmosphere, 00:32:49.96\00:32:55.24 and every day have food, and to be able to be trained 00:32:55.27\00:32:58.67 to know the Lord and to love the Lord. 00:32:59.07\00:33:01.14 And so, I mean, I've heard you say that 00:33:01.38\00:33:03.95 several pastors have already gone through. 00:33:04.55\00:33:06.82 They have become pastors. 00:33:06.85\00:33:08.22 Well, what inspired them to decide to be a pastors? 00:33:08.25\00:33:11.45 Well, because they were trained... 00:33:11.49\00:33:12.95 - Lifestyle, their environment. - Yes. 00:33:12.99\00:33:14.32 They were trained on the biblical understanding 00:33:14.36\00:33:16.73 that there's a plan of salvation. 00:33:16.83\00:33:18.23 We're in a great controversy between good and evil. 00:33:18.26\00:33:20.16 And they get that training, and the Lord inspires people 00:33:20.36\00:33:23.77 to be pastors. 00:33:24.07\00:33:25.53 And so, great work is being done. 00:33:25.57\00:33:27.90 And some of them come back to help out. 00:33:27.94\00:33:30.37 This is a wonderful ministry. 00:33:30.41\00:33:32.07 Well, as I listen to Lois, I sense this joy and profound 00:33:32.11\00:33:38.11 love for what you do. 00:33:38.15\00:33:40.25 What makes this place so special to you? 00:33:40.28\00:33:43.08 And another question, what has made you the happiest 00:33:43.12\00:33:46.76 working in the orphanage? 00:33:46.79\00:33:48.29 Because I know at the beginning you hear sad stories. 00:33:48.32\00:33:52.29 I mean, just when Cheryl, when you were staring the story 00:33:52.63\00:33:56.87 of the little boy that was at the door, 00:33:56.90\00:33:59.50 he was sleeping at the door, my heart, I almost cried 00:33:59.53\00:34:03.77 here on the set just visualizing that little child 00:34:03.81\00:34:08.51 that cannot defend himself. 00:34:08.54\00:34:10.35 Praise God that he was left at that door. 00:34:10.85\00:34:13.85 Because through that door, he was blessed. 00:34:14.15\00:34:17.65 And the opportunities that the Lord lays before us 00:34:17.69\00:34:21.06 are so many to be able to bless so many people of all ages. 00:34:21.09\00:34:25.66 We're talking about 2 or maybe 3-year-olds through 10 year olds 00:34:25.69\00:34:29.66 at the orphanage project here in Tanzania. 00:34:29.70\00:34:33.27 So yes, tell me, why is this place so special? 00:34:33.30\00:34:36.64 Let me tell you a story. 00:34:37.21\00:34:40.28 Please do. 00:34:40.48\00:34:41.81 Four years ago there was a government intervention 00:34:42.14\00:34:45.61 because there was a family of children 00:34:45.65\00:34:48.12 that were being cared for by their grandparents. 00:34:48.65\00:34:51.32 The grandfather was in his 90's, the grandmother in her 80's. 00:34:51.35\00:34:55.46 And they couldn't feed the children. 00:34:55.49\00:34:57.06 And they asked would we take those children. 00:34:57.53\00:35:00.60 I said we can take nine of those children. 00:35:00.63\00:35:03.00 The others were older, they were in their teens. 00:35:03.73\00:35:06.53 I said they're too old for us to take. 00:35:06.57\00:35:08.70 So we took nine children in one day. 00:35:08.74\00:35:10.84 ~ Wow. 00:35:10.87\00:35:12.21 And they've been there for four years. 00:35:12.24\00:35:13.71 ~ Amen. 00:35:13.74\00:35:15.08 One of the boys told his grandfather, 00:35:16.58\00:35:20.32 "You need to be baptized." 00:35:20.88\00:35:22.75 ~ Oh goodness, he's a little minister. 00:35:22.78\00:35:25.15 And we didn't know about it. 00:35:25.92\00:35:27.96 And one day the grandfather showed up at the orphanage 00:35:27.99\00:35:31.16 with a change of clothes asking to be baptized. 00:35:31.19\00:35:34.50 But our chaplain isn't ordained, and our district 00:35:34.76\00:35:37.87 pastor didn't know anything about this and had commitments. 00:35:37.90\00:35:41.37 And he went home without being baptized. 00:35:41.67\00:35:44.17 I said we'll follow up on this. 00:35:44.84\00:35:47.18 So the chaplain and I went down there and we met with the 00:35:47.21\00:35:51.35 80+ year old grandmother and 90+ year old grandfather. 00:35:51.38\00:35:55.78 And they said, "Yes, we both want to be baptized." 00:35:56.08\00:35:59.19 ~ Amen. 00:35:59.22\00:36:00.56 And they had been baptized some years before 00:36:00.59\00:36:03.43 but hadn't attended church in many, many, many, many years. 00:36:03.46\00:36:06.76 So we had a baptism at the orphanage. 00:36:07.80\00:36:11.77 This is the picture we see, or...? There were eleven kids. 00:37:09.32\00:37:11.49 There were eleven kids. 00:37:11.53\00:37:12.86 They were actually more than one, 00:37:12.89\00:37:14.63 there were three sets of parents involved. 00:37:14.66\00:37:16.97 But they had all died of aids. 00:37:17.00\00:37:18.37 And so the grandparents were the ones trying to provide 00:37:18.40\00:37:20.84 and weren't able to. 00:37:21.24\00:37:22.57 ~ And I'm sure that story repeats itself in so many 00:37:22.60\00:37:26.34 homes, right, and so many families throughout the world. 00:37:26.37\00:37:30.21 Because you are a worldwide ministry, right, Cheryl? 00:37:30.25\00:37:33.68 ~ We are, yes. 00:37:33.72\00:37:35.05 ~ Well tell us, Cheryl, by now I think some people say, 00:37:35.08\00:37:38.19 "Well, I want to be involved. 00:37:38.22\00:37:39.55 I want to help some children be changed 00:37:39.59\00:37:42.42 and to have a Christian atmosphere, and also 00:37:42.46\00:37:47.16 to learn about Jesus." 00:37:47.20\00:37:48.53 Tell us about, for those that want to donate, 00:37:48.56\00:37:51.07 how can they donate and how are the donations utilized? 00:37:51.10\00:37:55.07 You can go to our website... 00:37:55.10\00:37:57.07 And you can donate there. 00:37:59.71\00:38:01.84 When you make a donation, if you're going to sponsor a child, 00:38:01.88\00:38:05.38 we ask for $30 for a child. 00:38:05.41\00:38:07.68 We keep $3 of that back for administrative purposes. 00:38:07.72\00:38:11.35 The rest of it, like if you're wanting to donate to 00:38:12.02\00:38:15.09 the high school that we desperately need in Tanzania, 00:38:15.12\00:38:18.19 if you send us $100, that entire $100 is going to go 00:38:18.23\00:38:22.26 to that project, yeah. 00:38:22.30\00:38:24.63 Lois is a volunteer, I'm a volunteer. 00:38:24.67\00:38:27.27 We have two paid staff members. 00:38:27.57\00:38:30.84 We don't spend a lot on advertising. 00:38:30.87\00:38:33.21 I don't give out tchotchkes at conferences, 00:38:33.24\00:38:36.44 or anything like this. 00:38:36.48\00:38:37.81 So we really want as much money as possible 00:38:37.85\00:38:40.65 to go to the child or for the purpose that it was given. 00:38:40.68\00:38:45.69 ~ So you say $30 a month to sponsor a child. 00:38:46.12\00:38:50.49 ~ That sponsors a child. 00:38:50.53\00:38:51.86 So that gives a child the education, the clothing, 00:38:51.89\00:38:55.60 the nurturing home environment. 00:38:55.63\00:38:59.73 It's really not enough, so we get a lot of donations 00:38:59.77\00:39:03.94 that are just greatest need. 00:39:04.14\00:39:05.77 And that kind of helps to cover the rest of the cost. 00:39:05.81\00:39:10.68 Yes. 00:39:10.71\00:39:12.05 So $30 is really not enough. 00:39:12.35\00:39:14.22 So maybe by now they can tag on a little more. 00:39:14.25\00:39:17.29 ~ I've been thinking about it, but you know, with 00:39:17.32\00:39:19.49 this recession and the pandemic, I've just been kind of 00:39:19.52\00:39:22.66 reluctant to put that burden on our devoted sponsors. 00:39:22.69\00:39:27.33 I mean, our sponsors are not wealthy. 00:39:27.36\00:39:29.40 They're sacrificing themselves to give because they 00:39:29.43\00:39:32.60 want to help these children. 00:39:32.63\00:39:35.37 I mean, our goal is their souls, basically. 00:39:35.40\00:39:39.57 There are folks that cannot travel over there and, 00:39:39.61\00:39:42.94 you know, make a meal and run it over to the children, 00:39:43.14\00:39:46.31 or cannot provide. 00:39:46.35\00:39:48.05 But the Lord provides in different ways. 00:39:48.08\00:39:51.19 You know, yes we are in the recession and all, 00:39:51.49\00:39:53.96 but you know, when we give from the heart, 00:39:53.99\00:39:56.93 we give sacrificially. 00:39:56.96\00:39:58.56 So yes, $30 a month plus whatever blessing, 00:39:58.76\00:40:02.76 the Holy Spirit impresses your heart to give a gift. 00:40:02.80\00:40:07.04 Because praise God that the money goes, 00:40:07.07\00:40:09.80 except the $3 that you use for administration, 00:40:09.84\00:40:13.07 I mean, really, you have $27 that goes directly for a child. 00:40:13.27\00:40:18.48 ~ Now if I sponsor a child, do I get a picture of that child? 00:40:18.51\00:40:21.68 Do we have contact with that child? 00:40:21.72\00:40:23.69 How does this work? 00:40:23.72\00:40:25.25 So you will get a picture of the child, 00:40:25.29\00:40:27.49 and a little bit of the background. 00:40:27.52\00:40:29.36 You will also get letters from the child. 00:40:29.72\00:40:32.83 Sometimes it's really, really difficult to get those letters. 00:40:33.13\00:40:36.03 Like Burma during the war, I mean, there was nothing 00:40:36.06\00:40:40.27 for a year or so. 00:40:40.30\00:40:41.64 The communication between the children and the sponsors. 00:40:42.24\00:40:44.61 But we try very hard to get the letters from the children 00:40:44.64\00:40:48.08 and give them to the sponsors. 00:40:48.11\00:40:49.44 They're just adorable. The little pictures. 00:40:49.48\00:40:52.01 ~ I'm sure, I can imagine. 00:40:52.05\00:40:53.92 Those 3 to 10-year olds are special. 00:40:53.95\00:40:56.89 I mean a special place in their life. 00:40:56.92\00:41:00.36 ~ Now Lois... 00:41:00.39\00:41:02.39 I want to say, Idalia, before we continue, 00:41:02.42\00:41:04.66 Sorry. 00:41:05.03\00:41:06.36 You know, $30 is really not a lot. 00:41:06.39\00:41:08.10 I'm not sure for how many years you've had the $30. 00:41:09.10\00:41:12.20 ~ Oh no, no, we've phased it up. 00:41:12.23\00:41:13.74 It started, I think must have been $12 a month. 00:41:13.77\00:41:16.91 Then it's gradually gone up. 00:41:16.94\00:41:19.44 Because I'm thinking of, you know, we've been to the grocery 00:41:19.47\00:41:23.14 store just this week, and a few items in there, they say, 00:41:23.18\00:41:26.78 "That will be $120." 00:41:26.82\00:41:28.18 And I go, wow, you know. 00:41:28.22\00:41:29.95 And I know the prices are different in different 00:41:30.15\00:41:32.02 countries, however, but $30 is really not a lot 00:41:32.05\00:41:36.16 to help a child for a whole month with the food 00:41:36.19\00:41:39.79 and the things they need. 00:41:39.83\00:41:41.16 It's really not a lot. 00:41:41.43\00:41:42.96 And I praise the Lord for the way you apparently are 00:41:43.33\00:41:47.34 squeezing the money to be able to help all these children. 00:41:47.37\00:41:50.37 We're talking about 20 something countries 00:41:51.37\00:41:54.54 that REACH International is in. 00:41:54.58\00:41:56.04 You know, you do what you with what you receive. 00:41:56.98\00:41:59.48 And the Lord is supplying the needs. 00:41:59.51\00:42:00.85 And we want to encourage those that the Lord impresses 00:42:00.88\00:42:04.95 to help this ministry. 00:42:04.99\00:42:06.39 It's very simple, REACH.org 00:42:06.42\00:42:08.59 And then you can see the webpage and you have information there. 00:42:11.49\00:42:14.03 And we're going to share some more contact 00:42:14.16\00:42:15.50 information in a moment. 00:42:15.53\00:42:16.87 Now for those that did not hear what REACH stands for, 00:42:16.90\00:42:20.64 it's, Render Effective Aid to Children. 00:42:20.67\00:42:24.51 So praise the Lord for that. 00:42:24.84\00:42:26.41 And I want to say that $30 a month is $360 a year. 00:42:26.44\00:42:31.98 So you can make a one time donation of $360, 00:42:32.08\00:42:36.08 and that will sponsor a child for one whole year. 00:42:36.12\00:42:39.65 Now I'd like to know what progress has been made since 00:42:39.95\00:42:44.29 your last interview since you've been here at 3ABN. 00:42:44.93\00:42:47.83 Well, we have graduated three classes of children 00:42:49.00\00:42:54.04 in the last three years. 00:42:54.07\00:42:56.37 And that started with, we started with little children 00:42:56.40\00:43:01.24 that never attended school. 00:43:01.28\00:43:03.11 And then we added a grade every year, 00:43:03.75\00:43:07.82 until we have now three groups of children that have graduated. 00:43:07.85\00:43:11.79 This is their graduation day. 00:43:11.82\00:43:13.39 Oh, marvelous. 00:43:13.42\00:43:14.76 So that's a major, major, major accomplishment. 00:43:14.79\00:43:18.66 We're in the process of building a permanent secondary school. 00:43:19.29\00:43:22.93 That's a major accomplishment. 00:43:23.03\00:43:24.70 And we are needing wells for water for the secondary school. 00:43:25.27\00:43:30.17 We have had some attempts to get some local wells 00:43:30.21\00:43:34.34 drilled that we have not had good success with the help 00:43:34.38\00:43:38.51 that were doing it. 00:43:38.55\00:43:39.88 I don't know how we're going to get a well-done 00:43:39.91\00:43:43.18 for that secondary school. 00:43:43.22\00:43:44.55 We may eventually have to hire outside the area for a bore well 00:43:44.59\00:43:48.96 because the locals are not able to provide us what we need. 00:43:48.99\00:43:54.10 They dig, and then they say, "We're done." 00:43:54.46\00:43:56.93 ~ Oh, wow. ~ Wow. 00:43:56.97\00:43:58.30 So we hope that we can get a good well for that dormitory. 00:43:58.33\00:44:02.50 ~ Now that the kids, once they're done, 00:44:02.54\00:44:05.81 you know, they're old enough to be back integrated 00:44:05.84\00:44:08.98 into the community, I have a question here, 00:44:09.01\00:44:11.78 what are the needs of the surrounding community 00:44:11.81\00:44:14.48 into which the orphans will eventually re-integrate?
