Amen. ~ Amen, amen. 00:07:31.51\00:07:33.62 - What beautiful words. - Amen. 00:07:33.65\00:07:35.58 Yes, and as you continue reading, you will see that Jesus 00:07:35.78\00:07:38.89 put His hands on them and blessed them. 00:07:38.92\00:07:41.12 How does this passage of scripture minister to you? 00:07:41.16\00:07:46.80 Or what would you like to share about it? 00:07:46.83\00:07:48.40 You know, since my mother was a little girl, 00:07:49.26\00:07:52.43 she loved children. 00:07:52.47\00:07:54.00 And she always thought that she would like to 00:07:54.04\00:07:56.47 do something for children someday. 00:07:56.94\00:07:59.01 And then my parents became missionaries. 00:07:59.47\00:08:02.28 Actually, my dad was something like 40 years old, 00:08:03.08\00:08:06.25 and he learned Spanish. 00:08:06.28\00:08:07.68 Which is, you know, not easy. 00:08:07.72\00:08:10.55 But I got to grow up in Spanish countries with them. 00:08:11.05\00:08:14.69 Central America, Dominican Republic. 00:08:14.89\00:08:17.06 And during those years, my mother and father would 00:08:17.36\00:08:21.60 minister to children a lot. 00:08:21.63\00:08:23.16 I remember having children in our home, you know, often. 00:08:23.20\00:08:26.80 Poor children, maybe one of the parents wasn't around. 00:08:27.34\00:08:31.47 And sometimes they celebrated Christmas with us, 00:08:31.51\00:08:34.51 or other things. 00:08:34.54\00:08:35.88 And little by little she became known as the person 00:08:35.91\00:08:38.65 who would take care of children. 00:08:38.68\00:08:40.02 And so, International Children's Care 00:08:40.45\00:08:44.29 sort of came to be as that historical background really. 00:08:44.32\00:08:49.02 There was a devastating earthquake in the late 70's 00:08:50.56\00:08:53.80 in Guatemala. 00:08:53.83\00:08:55.50 That was kind of a catalyst because there became some 00:08:55.70\00:08:58.57 call for there needs to be an Adventist ministry 00:08:59.43\00:09:02.74 for vulnerable abandoned orphaned children. 00:09:02.77\00:09:07.04 And elder Robert Folkenberg was the president of the 00:09:07.68\00:09:12.91 Central American Union at that time. 00:09:13.45\00:09:16.25 And he knew my parents, they had worked together. 00:09:16.45\00:09:18.55 And so he contacted my mother and my father 00:09:18.75\00:09:23.36 and asked if they'd be interested in helping to start 00:09:23.39\00:09:26.33 a ministry for children. 00:09:26.80\00:09:28.13 He said, an orphanage for children. 00:09:28.16\00:09:29.66 She said, "Well, what do you have in mind?" 00:09:29.70\00:09:31.63 "Well," he said, "we'll build a building and we'll get 00:09:32.60\00:09:35.50 some people and bring children in." 00:09:35.54\00:09:37.24 She said, "I'm not interested in that." 00:09:37.44\00:09:39.17 "Well, what do you want to do?" 00:09:40.01\00:09:41.81 And she said, "Well, I've always thought 00:09:41.84\00:09:43.35 I want to start an orphanage that's more like a home. 00:09:43.38\00:09:47.32 So I've thought of a children's village where we would have 00:09:48.02\00:09:52.12 a large campus and homes. 00:09:52.72\00:09:55.12 And each home could have gardens and they'd have house parents 00:09:55.16\00:09:59.73 that were Adventist people that would take care of the children. 00:09:59.76\00:10:02.80 School, church, that sort of thing." 00:10:03.20\00:10:05.13 And he said, "Yeah, I like it. That's great." 00:10:05.33\00:10:08.34 And those of you who remember Brother Bob would remember, 00:10:08.80\00:10:14.18 "Yeah, hey I want to go for that." 00:10:14.21\00:10:16.34 ~ And so, he already had some funds, 00:10:16.95\00:10:18.98 and he said, "Let's start something like this." 00:10:19.01\00:10:20.72 Well that was a hard thing because my mother had never 00:10:20.75\00:10:23.65 done anything like this. 00:10:23.92\00:10:25.59 But she felt like the Lord really 00:10:25.62\00:10:27.52 called her to this ministry. 00:10:27.56\00:10:29.12 That He actually spoke to her and her heart, and my father. 00:10:29.16\00:10:34.13 And so they actually retired in order to start 00:10:34.33\00:10:37.67 that ministry so long ago. 00:10:37.70\00:10:40.07 And that was how it was based. 00:10:40.10\00:10:42.00 The idea of family, the idea of giving children 00:10:42.04\00:10:46.64 something that they didn't have. 00:10:47.11\00:10:48.74 It doesn't just have to do with poverty. 00:10:48.78\00:10:51.55 ~ It has to do with a broken heart. 00:10:52.21\00:10:54.15 It has to do with something inside that 00:10:54.55\00:10:56.55 needs to be repaired. 00:10:57.89\00:10:59.29 Only through the love and mercy of Jesus. 00:10:59.32\00:11:01.62 Tell us the names of your mother and father. 00:11:02.16\00:11:04.63 Alcyon and Ken Fleck. 00:11:04.79\00:11:07.60 Yeah, my dad was a president of different 00:11:08.73\00:11:12.57 conferences, missions in Central America, Dominican Republic. 00:11:13.00\00:11:17.44 That was a long time ago when, you know, we heard 00:11:18.57\00:11:22.94 a lot about missionaries going around to different parts. 00:11:22.98\00:11:26.15 And then they prepared others in those countries 00:11:26.18\00:11:29.45 to then take over and lead out. 00:11:29.48\00:11:32.12 And he was part of that. 00:11:32.42\00:11:34.29 - Amen, amen. - Beautiful. 00:11:34.32\00:11:35.66 Well, Jesus said to "let the little children come unto Me." 00:11:35.69\00:11:39.09 And this is the ministry that has taken on the role of 00:11:39.13\00:11:43.53 Jesus, saying, "Yes, bring those children to Me." 00:11:43.57\00:11:46.13 It's a wonderful, wonderful ministry. 00:11:46.63\00:11:48.40 And we want to hear more about it. 00:11:48.60\00:11:50.77 And I'm sure you do also. 00:11:50.81\00:11:52.57 How it works and what they do. 00:11:52.77\00:11:54.44 And we have a song we'd like to share. 00:11:54.74\00:11:59.18 We have a song. 00:11:59.21\00:12:00.55 And you know, music also ministers to the heart. 00:12:00.58\00:12:03.42 And I'm just praising Jesus for the ministry 00:12:03.45\00:12:06.25 of ICC, International Children's Care 00:12:06.29\00:12:09.56 because they nourish and they introduce the love of Jesus 00:12:09.59\00:12:13.40 in the hearts of these children. 00:12:13.43\00:12:15.06 And I am anxious to hear more about what ICC is 00:12:15.16\00:12:20.14 and the services they provide to each child that they receive. 00:12:20.17\00:12:24.24 And there's a role for you too that you can play 00:12:24.27\00:12:27.68 in this ministry. 00:12:27.71\00:12:29.04 But right now we're going to enjoy the ministry of music 00:12:29.08\00:12:31.78 by Alessandra Sorace. 00:12:31.81\00:12:34.88 She's going to sing, Redeemed. 00:12:35.18\00:12:37.99 Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it. 00:12:57.34\00:13:01.81 Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. 00:13:01.84\00:13:06.01 Redeemed through His infinite mercy, 00:13:06.05\00:13:10.25 His child and forever I am. 00:13:10.29\00:13:14.32 Redeemed, redeemed, 00:13:14.52\00:13:18.66 redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. 00:13:18.69\00:13:22.96 Redeemed, how I love it proclaim it. 00:13:23.00\00:13:27.27 His child and forever I am. 00:13:27.30\00:13:32.44 I think of my blessed Redeemer, I think of Him all the day long. 00:13:37.85\00:13:46.22 I sing for I cannot be silent; 00:13:46.25\00:13:50.53 His love is the theme of my song. 00:13:50.56\00:13:54.53 Redeemed, redeemed, 00:13:54.80\00:13:58.83 redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. 00:13:58.87\00:14:03.10 Redeemed, how I love it proclaim it. 00:14:03.14\00:14:07.48 His child and forever I am. 00:14:07.51\00:14:12.71 I know I shall see in His beauty the King in whose law I delight; 00:14:18.09\00:14:27.63 who lovingly guardeth my footsteps 00:14:27.73\00:14:32.53 and giveth me songs in the night. 00:14:32.57\00:14:36.50 Redeemed, redeemed, 00:14:36.71\00:14:41.01 redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. 00:14:41.04\00:14:45.18 Redeemed, how I love it proclaim it. 00:14:45.21\00:14:49.55 His child and forever I am. 00:14:49.58\00:14:53.59 Redeemed, redeemed, 00:14:53.62\00:14:57.93 redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. 00:14:57.96\00:15:02.10 Redeemed, how I love it proclaim it. 00:15:02.13\00:15:06.53 His child and forever I am. 00:15:06.57\00:15:10.27 His child and forever I am. 00:15:10.77\00:15:19.85 - Amen. That's right. - That's what they teach. 00:15:55.08\00:15:57.02 Little songs, and the children just enjoy praising Jesus. 00:15:57.05\00:16:01.62 Well, as we started the program off sharing about 00:16:01.66\00:16:06.39 ICC, there may be some people are just joining us, 00:16:06.43\00:16:09.73 and again we just want to give you a recap. 00:16:09.76\00:16:11.60 The history of the ministry, ICC, and its growth, 00:16:12.30\00:16:17.07 its expansion. 00:16:17.11\00:16:18.51 You mentioned that your parents were missionaries, 00:16:18.54\00:16:22.48 but you were also raised in different parts of the world. 00:16:22.51\00:16:25.45 So please share with us. 00:16:25.48\00:16:26.82 Yes, and as I grew up, I learned that language, 00:16:26.85\00:16:30.19 Spanish especially, and the culture. 00:16:30.22\00:16:33.29 And that has really been a blessing to me as I've 00:16:33.32\00:16:35.56 been able now to work in different countries 00:16:35.59\00:16:38.06 around the world. 00:16:38.09\00:16:39.43 And ICC, my mother would say, "I never expected this to 00:16:39.46\00:16:43.16 go beyond just working in Guatemala." 00:16:43.20\00:16:46.23 But the Lord often has plans for us that we 00:16:47.20\00:16:50.51 don't even can imagine. 00:16:50.54\00:16:52.21 And so, before she passed away, she was able to see 00:16:52.41\00:16:56.58 ICC expanding into 12, 13, 14 different 00:16:56.61\00:17:01.28 countries of the world. 00:17:01.32\00:17:02.65 And you know, now we have to go to Congo, 00:17:02.95\00:17:06.96 we have to go to India, we have to go to other countries. 00:17:06.99\00:17:10.16 And what a blessing to minister, because the hurt in those 00:17:10.19\00:17:14.76 children is the same no matter where you go. 00:17:14.80\00:17:17.20 And only God really can provide a solution to that. 00:17:17.80\00:17:23.34 ~ And every country speaks their own dialect or language, 00:17:23.84\00:17:26.78 but it's interesting that the pain is the same 00:17:26.81\00:17:29.31 in any language. 00:17:29.34\00:17:30.91 And you know, the theme song for 3ABN, 00:17:30.95\00:17:33.38 "I want to spend my life mending broken people." 00:17:33.42\00:17:36.75 And you are ministering, you're mending the broken children. 00:17:36.79\00:17:41.69 So praise Jesus for the people that are 00:17:41.72\00:17:44.53 in your team sponsoring the children 00:17:45.69\00:17:48.56 and working with these children to bring hope. 00:17:48.60\00:17:50.77 This is a call to mission, a call to mission. 00:17:50.80\00:17:53.30 Brian Manley is the vice-president of 00:17:53.34\00:17:56.20 International Children's Care. 00:17:56.24\00:17:57.84 And tell us about your journey. 00:17:58.14\00:17:59.71 How the Lord led in your life to eventually say, 00:17:59.74\00:18:03.14 "You know what, I think I want to be 00:18:03.18\00:18:04.51 a part of this ministry." 00:18:04.55\00:18:05.88 Yes, my wife Lorinda has worked for ICC for about 15 years. 00:18:05.91\00:18:12.32 So I have seen the organization through her eyes, 00:18:12.35\00:18:16.76 through her experience in our children services department. 00:18:16.96\00:18:21.23 But maybe going back a little bit before that, 00:18:21.66\00:18:23.90 my grandparents served the church in India 00:18:24.57\00:18:28.44 for about 20 years. 00:18:28.47\00:18:29.80 And then my parents served the church in east Africa, 00:18:29.84\00:18:32.97 Kenya, for almost 10 years. 00:18:33.01\00:18:35.34 And so, I kind of grew up as a third generation, 00:18:35.54\00:18:38.01 what we might call the third culture kid. 00:18:38.61\00:18:40.78 Really immersed in cross-cultural ministry, 00:18:41.58\00:18:44.39 and a passion for using my talents for God 00:18:44.59\00:18:47.82 in a cross-cultural context. 00:18:47.86\00:18:50.23 And so, we have served abroad in Middle East/North Africa Union 00:18:50.43\00:18:55.53 based in Beirut, Lebanon. 00:18:55.56\00:18:58.37 And also a very interesting and challenging experience. 00:18:58.73\00:19:03.91 And we worked largely with young people, with youth 00:19:04.11\00:19:09.24 outreach initiatives that I think kind of 00:19:09.28\00:19:12.65 fed a growing passion in me that is finding fulfillment at ICC. 00:19:12.68\00:19:19.02 ~ Praise the Lord, praise the Lord. 00:19:19.45\00:19:20.89 The Lord has been preparing you to be a part of this ministry 00:19:20.92\00:19:26.39 that's making such an impact in the lives of children 00:19:26.43\00:19:29.20 that, you know, you hate to think about it, 00:19:29.23\00:19:32.30 but some of these children, had it not been for ICC, 00:19:32.33\00:19:35.30 they may have either wound up being mistreated, 00:19:36.20\00:19:39.81 or died in the streets, or be a part of a gang, 00:19:39.84\00:19:44.41 dying early in some tragedy. 00:19:44.95\00:19:48.28 But praise the Lord for this atmosphere of home they can have 00:19:48.32\00:19:53.42 through International Children's Care. 00:19:53.46\00:19:55.86 It's a safety, it's a safety zone. 00:19:55.89\00:19:57.99 ~ You feel part of a family. - Yes, that's right. 00:19:58.03\00:20:01.76 Now, Rick, I know you have to fund villages, 00:20:01.80\00:20:04.47 but as Brian mentioned, his wife works with the ministry, 00:20:04.50\00:20:10.04 and he has learned of the ministry through her eyes, 00:20:10.07\00:20:13.78 her compassion, her passion for the ministry. 00:20:13.81\00:20:17.25 So please, describe to us what is so special about 00:20:17.28\00:20:20.68 these children's villages, so we can also understand 00:20:20.72\00:20:25.59 the special projects that you have. 00:20:25.62\00:20:28.69 Well I was mentioning earlier that it's not just a problem 00:20:28.72\00:20:32.39 of poverty with children. 00:20:32.43\00:20:34.20 It's a problem of hurt, it's a problem of loss. 00:20:34.46\00:20:38.03 And so, our goal is to re-establish something 00:20:38.43\00:20:44.07 in their lives that they're missing. 00:20:44.11\00:20:45.57 And that's family, that's a sense of belonging, 00:20:45.61\00:20:47.88 a sense of community. 00:20:47.91\00:20:49.84 And so, the children's village concept is so nice because, 00:20:49.94\00:20:55.25 I mean, it was inspired by God literally. 00:20:55.28\00:20:58.55 That by having these dedicated house parents 00:20:59.05\00:21:04.53 who are Christians, they're Adventists, 00:21:05.26\00:21:06.76 they're taking care of the children just like their own. 00:21:06.80\00:21:09.23 And sometimes they have their own children as well, 00:21:09.63\00:21:11.53 and they all integrate together in a home. 00:21:11.57\00:21:13.67 So they may take care of 10 or 12 of the children that are 00:21:13.70\00:21:19.07 without families and make them part of their family. 00:21:19.77\00:21:23.01 And then right on that same campus we have a church, 00:21:23.55\00:21:26.82 we have our school, typically. 00:21:26.85\00:21:28.98 There's a farm. 00:21:30.19\00:21:31.52 Sometimes we have self-supporting industries, 00:21:31.55\00:21:33.59 you know, where they help grow food and things like that. 00:21:33.62\00:21:36.83 And we even are doing some industries that are more 00:21:37.53\00:21:40.30 commercial to help provide the funding. 00:21:40.33\00:21:42.90 And so, it's real life. Right? 00:21:43.63\00:21:46.60 They're living a real life. 00:21:46.63\00:21:47.97 They're enjoying going to church, going to school, 00:21:48.00\00:21:51.04 playing, you know. 00:21:51.07\00:21:52.41 It becomes something that they didn't have before. 00:21:52.44\00:21:55.81 And that's a real family. 00:21:55.84\00:21:57.28 ~ Amen. ~ Amen. 00:21:57.31\00:21:58.65 There are some pictures. 00:21:58.68\00:22:00.02 Yes, they have a picture of Los Pinos campus. 00:22:00.05\00:22:03.65 Now talk to us about, wow, look at that campus. 00:22:03.69\00:22:07.09 ~ So you have acreage there. 00:22:07.46\00:22:09.22 ~ This was our first project. 00:22:09.52\00:22:12.19 And Brian was just there recently, so you might want to 00:22:12.23\00:22:18.43 hear his perspective because it's a little bit of a new one. 00:22:18.47\00:22:21.07 ~ Give us an eyewitness report of what you saw there. 00:22:21.10\00:22:24.21 What really impacted you about it? 00:22:24.24\00:22:25.91 Yeah, I really had the privilege to visit that as our flagship 00:22:25.94\00:22:30.05 campus first in my time here with ICC. 00:22:30.15\00:22:34.02 I learned that Guatemala has about 500,000 orphaned 00:22:34.92\00:22:39.35 abandoned children in the country. 00:22:39.39\00:22:42.32 And that's an interesting statistic if you consider that 00:22:42.36\00:22:45.59 the population of the country is about 16 million. 00:22:45.63\00:22:48.36 And so, there's a need to take care of children 00:22:48.66\00:22:52.87 there is a long-term nurturing environment. 00:22:52.90\00:22:55.14 I was blessed to see this campus so well developed. 00:22:56.04\00:22:59.74 The architecture, the placement of the homes, 00:23:00.08\00:23:02.71 the way the homes are laid out, all testify of a very thoughtful 00:23:02.74\00:23:08.82 model that is really based on nurturing children 00:23:09.05\00:23:14.92 who have come from traumatic backgrounds, 00:23:15.02\00:23:17.76 and providing a healing process. 00:23:18.13\00:23:20.00 It was a blessing to see the homes on campus 00:23:20.03\00:23:23.57 and the way they're laid out, the church in the middle, 00:23:23.60\00:23:26.47 the gardens, the landscaping, everything kind of 00:23:27.44\00:23:30.87 comes together to show a healing environment. 00:23:30.91\00:23:35.71 ~ Amen. 00:23:36.01\00:23:37.35 So is this the home, one of the homes? 00:23:37.38\00:23:40.75 ~ That one is in the Dominican Republic, 00:23:41.42\00:23:43.08 but yes it's a typical home. 00:23:43.12\00:23:45.79 ~ Beautiful, very nice. 00:23:45.82\00:23:47.76 So you have the dedicated staff of Anabela and Lori? 00:23:47.79\00:23:53.40 Yes. I think there's a picture of my wife Lorinda and Anabela 00:23:53.70\00:23:57.77 who is our country director there. 00:23:57.80\00:24:00.94 ~ Okay, which one of your wife? 00:24:00.97\00:24:02.57 ~ My wife is on the right and Anabela is in the middle. 00:24:02.60\00:24:05.64 Sister Anabela is doing a great work in her role of leadership. 00:24:06.04\00:24:10.15 We also have Joel and Sonya Carpio who are the 00:24:10.18\00:24:13.21 project administrators. 00:24:13.25\00:24:14.72 Dedicated staff. 00:24:14.75\00:24:16.28 We met the house parents, and the teachers, 00:24:16.48\00:24:19.55 and the principal of the school. 00:24:19.59\00:24:21.19 They're very self-sacrificing dedicated people. 00:24:21.22\00:24:23.86 We have a picture of a teacher, and also the children. 00:24:23.89\00:24:29.40 They even give affection. That is beautiful. 00:24:31.17\00:24:34.34 And there's a teacher working with an alumni, 00:24:34.70\00:24:37.54 with a student. 00:24:37.57\00:24:38.91 That's wonderful. Very good. 00:24:38.94\00:24:40.78 So they get their personal attention. 00:24:40.81\00:24:42.58 ~ Absolutely. 00:24:42.61\00:24:43.95 ~ Give us an idea of the structure, like for example, 00:24:43.98\00:24:46.98 the one in Guatemala has the capacity for 00:24:47.02\00:24:49.68 how many children, let's say. 00:24:49.72\00:24:51.22 We have a capacity for over 100 children. 00:24:51.72\00:24:54.72 Right now we're a little bit low on 00:24:54.92\00:24:57.06 how many children we have there. 00:24:57.09\00:24:58.69 It's kind of an ebb and flow, 00:24:59.86\00:25:01.60 depending on political situations and the government, 00:25:01.63\00:25:04.80 and things like that. 00:25:04.83\00:25:06.17 So every country is different too, in terms of that. 00:25:07.47\00:25:11.47 Right now our country with the most children is in Congo, 00:25:11.51\00:25:16.11 Democratic Republic of Congo. 00:25:16.14\00:25:17.81 And we have about 150 on that campus. 00:25:18.25\00:25:21.62 ~ So it's a busy place. 00:25:23.52\00:25:26.39 A lot of singing, a lot of yelling and screaming. 00:25:26.86\00:25:30.46 - Running and jumping. - Running and jumping. 00:25:31.59\00:25:33.86 So a lot of noise. That means they're healthy. 00:25:33.90\00:25:37.13 Yeah, and Brian and I noticed that. 00:25:37.17\00:25:40.60 You know, when we were in the school, we were looking 00:25:40.64\00:25:43.00 how the teachers, as the children would come in, 00:25:43.37\00:25:46.78 would hug each child. 00:25:46.81\00:25:48.24 And there was that physical contact, you know. 00:25:48.54\00:25:51.11 And it's just like they really take it seriously. 00:25:51.15\00:25:53.92 You know, that this is a child who needs this. 00:25:54.28\00:25:58.55 They need that something different, you know, 00:25:58.59\00:26:01.96 even more than maybe your child would need 00:26:01.99\00:26:04.76 when they go to school. 00:26:04.79\00:26:06.19 Wow, tremendous. That's tremendous. 00:26:06.23\00:26:08.06 It's an unforgettable impact on the lives of these children. 00:26:08.76\00:26:11.43 - Unforgettable impact. ~ Yes. 00:26:11.47\00:26:12.80 What I'd like to say is, if these walls could speak 00:26:12.83\00:26:16.20 at every campus where you have ICC. 00:26:16.24\00:26:20.01 I mean, so many stories. 00:26:20.31\00:26:22.51 It must be difficult for you to decide which testimony to share. 00:26:23.11\00:26:27.25 But I understand you have Silvia Maria's testimony, right? 00:26:27.28\00:26:31.59 ~ Yeah, I'd like to tell you a little bit about her. 00:26:31.62\00:26:34.16 You know, when Brian and I were there, 00:26:34.49\00:26:36.76 and our wives, just a couple of months ago, 00:26:36.79\00:26:39.93 we got together with a bunch of older kids that are 00:26:40.46\00:26:42.56 now independent, you know. 00:26:42.60\00:26:43.97 They wanted to come and see us, because they call me, papa Rick. 00:26:44.07\00:26:48.70 My wife is mama Sharon. 00:26:49.30\00:26:51.07 So they wanted to come and see us, and hug, 00:26:51.94\00:26:55.84 and you know, reminisce. 00:26:55.88\00:26:57.81 Well, Maria and her little brother and her little sister 00:26:58.38\00:27:04.82 came to us quite some time ago. 00:27:04.85\00:27:07.79 Actually in 2000. 00:27:08.09\00:27:09.72 When we were there visiting now, she's grown up, 00:27:13.23\00:27:16.80 went to school. 00:27:17.10\00:27:18.43 Both she and her sister graduated from nursing, 00:27:18.47\00:27:22.00 and then they took respiratory therapy. 00:27:22.04\00:27:24.87 ~ You have pictures of Silvia and her siblings. 00:27:24.91\00:27:26.94 ~ We do when they first came. 00:27:26.98\00:27:28.94 ~ Wow, in 2001. 00:27:29.84\00:27:31.95 So I asked her, "Well, how did things go during the pandemic?" 00:27:31.98\00:27:36.85 Because, you know, she's working in a hospital there. 00:27:36.89\00:27:40.36 So she kind of told me some of her story. 00:27:41.82\00:27:43.89 Brian was there, we were talking with her. 00:27:43.93\00:27:46.49 And I said, "Could you write that to me? 00:27:46.53\00:27:49.16 Because I'd like to share that?" 00:27:49.20\00:27:50.77 And so she did; I'd just like to read part of her testimony. 00:27:51.07\00:27:54.47 She said, "My name is Silvia Maria Herrera. 00:27:54.50\00:27:57.04 I am a respiratory therapist and I am from Guatemala. 00:27:57.81\00:28:01.48 I work at the national hospital in my country 00:28:01.51\00:28:03.91 called, General Hospital San Juan De Dios. 00:28:03.95\00:28:07.08 And during the pandemic our country was affected a lot. 00:28:07.88\00:28:10.95 They didn't have enough beds for so many people. 00:28:12.02\00:28:14.59 I had the opportunity to work with elderly adults 00:28:14.62\00:28:17.26 and younger adults. 00:28:17.29\00:28:18.63 There were moments that were happy, sad, desperate, 00:28:19.09\00:28:22.63 and moments of worry. 00:28:22.66\00:28:24.23 Many people lost their battle with the coronavirus. 00:28:24.63\00:28:28.34 There were moments when we saw the hand of God so real, 00:28:28.84\00:28:31.94 and moments which were painful and difficult, 00:28:32.31\00:28:34.64 such as when a patient would ask for a last video call 00:28:34.68\00:28:38.45 to be able to say goodbye to their families. 00:28:38.48\00:28:41.08 And in the midst of so much pain, suffering, sadness, 00:28:41.88\00:28:46.02 anguish, I had the opportunity to be able to talk with 00:28:46.05\00:28:50.66 all those people about the love of God. 00:28:50.69\00:28:53.46 ~ I was able to hold their hand and pray with them, 00:28:53.86\00:28:57.70 and sometimes give them a few words of encouragement and hope. 00:28:58.73\00:29:03.14 Although, many times the reality was something else. 00:29:03.81\00:29:07.21 Many times I was filled with sadness to see the severity 00:29:08.54\00:29:12.28 of the illness, and sometimes not knowing what to do. 00:29:12.31\00:29:15.02 But I knew that God placed me there 00:29:15.35\00:29:18.72 to be able to help each one who needed my services. 00:29:19.29\00:29:23.22 I love my career, my work, and I love my neighbor." 00:29:23.83\00:29:28.33 ~ Amen. ~ Amen. 00:29:28.36\00:29:29.70 ~ What a beautiful story. ~ Beautiful letter. 00:29:29.73\00:29:31.63 This is she in this picture that we're looking at? 00:29:33.03\00:29:37.94 ~That's Silvia and her sister when they graduated. 00:29:37.97\00:29:41.74 And my wife and I went and were with them at their graduation. 00:29:42.54\00:29:46.75 ~ Beautiful. 00:29:46.78\00:29:48.12 ~ You have a picture of Silvia as well 00:29:48.15\00:29:49.48 with a patient, I understand. 00:29:49.52\00:29:51.49 Oh, look at her. 00:29:52.05\00:29:53.39 ~ She said, she told us, "Sometimes with all the stuff 00:29:53.62\00:29:57.03 that we had on, we had to wear, we didn't eat all day, 00:29:57.06\00:30:01.90 or even hardly drink. 00:30:02.23\00:30:03.67 Because we didn't want to have to take it off. 00:30:03.70\00:30:05.40 We were so busy, it was incredible." 00:30:05.43\00:30:08.07 She said, "You cannot imagine how busy it was." 00:30:08.10\00:30:10.41 And so many people died. 00:30:10.97\00:30:12.57 So this is like Idalia said, how do you decide 00:30:13.38\00:30:17.68 what story to share? 00:30:17.71\00:30:19.05 Because you're talking about each child is a story. 00:30:19.08\00:30:22.08 - Each child is a testimony. ~ Each child is a story. 00:30:22.12\00:30:24.49 It's a wonderful, wonderful testimony. 00:30:25.49\00:30:27.26 But we have some more that we need to share with you, 00:30:27.29\00:30:29.96 because we have some visitors via Skype that are joining us. 00:30:29.99\00:30:33.70 Milton and Grizelda, welcome to this program. 00:30:33.73\00:30:39.47 Thank you so much for taking the time to join us. 00:30:39.87\00:30:42.00 Tell us about your story, where you are. 00:30:42.40\00:30:45.84 Where do you serve, actually, also? 00:30:45.87\00:30:48.14 Let me begin by saying thank you for inviting us 00:30:50.45\00:30:53.68 to share our insights as both of us as children growing up, 00:30:53.72\00:30:57.79 and experiences now as adults. 00:30:57.82\00:31:00.22 So my name is Milton Casasola, I was born in Guatemala. 00:31:01.06\00:31:04.53 I am currently assigned to the aircraft carrier 00:31:05.23\00:31:08.60 USS Abraham Lincoln serving as an aircraft officer. 00:31:08.63\00:31:13.34 We currently live in San Diego. 00:31:13.37\00:31:15.04 Our family will be in San Diego for the foreseeable future. 00:31:15.07\00:31:19.37 My name is Grizelda Casasola. Thank you for inviting us. 00:31:19.74\00:31:22.61 And we have two wonderful daughters. 00:31:23.11\00:31:25.88 The older daughter's name is Carol Casasola. 00:31:26.41\00:31:29.88 She's 14 years old. 00:31:29.92\00:31:31.25 And the youngest is Valarie Casasola, 00:31:31.29\00:31:32.99 and she's 12 years old. 00:31:33.02\00:31:34.46 Well, we'd like to know, you know, you guys have 00:31:35.52\00:31:38.39 such a beautiful testimony. 00:31:38.43\00:31:40.16 The Lord provided so that you can be part of the ministry 00:31:40.36\00:31:45.33 and be received in Los Pinos, right, in Guatemala. 00:31:45.37\00:31:48.94 But, you know, something happened in your life. 00:31:49.14\00:31:51.27 You decided to take on these blessings the Lord 00:31:51.31\00:31:54.84 poured into your lives, and you decided to continue studying 00:31:54.88\00:31:58.51 and become a role model for so many other children 00:31:58.55\00:32:02.95 that are in so many other campuses. 00:32:03.15\00:32:05.95 Milton, please tell us about your story and how you 00:32:05.99\00:32:09.42 came to Los Pinos village in Guatemala. 00:32:09.46\00:32:12.96 So my story is not unique in the sense that 00:32:14.40\00:32:18.23 by the time I was brought to Los Pinos. 00:32:18.27\00:32:21.00 I wasn't the only kid in need. 00:32:21.04\00:32:24.04 I will have to put things into perspective to give you 00:32:24.07\00:32:27.64 a bit of understanding of the situation back then. 00:32:27.68\00:32:30.35 By the time I was born in 1977, 00:32:30.55\00:32:33.65 Guatemala was going through a civil war 00:32:33.68\00:32:35.95 or had gone through a civil war. 00:32:36.15\00:32:37.65 The civil war had been going on for about 17 years. 00:32:37.69\00:32:40.76 And as Rick explained, there was a major earthquake 00:32:40.96\00:32:45.16 that hit Guatemala and about 2000 people died. 00:32:45.19\00:32:49.76 Actually, 23,000 people died 00:32:49.80\00:32:51.37 and about a million people lost their homes. 00:32:51.40\00:32:53.70 So the situation in Guatemala was pretty bad in the 70s, 00:32:54.40\00:32:59.27 in addition to the civil war. 00:32:59.84\00:33:02.54 But between 1981 and 1983 the situation 00:33:03.01\00:33:08.25 went from bad to worse. 00:33:08.28\00:33:10.55 In 1982 my father was kidnapped at gunpoint. 00:33:11.35\00:33:15.49 He was tied up, taken away, and never to be seen again. 00:33:18.33\00:33:26.33 So this was late in 1982. 00:33:26.53\00:33:29.37 My mom was 30 and couldn't provide for her young family. 00:33:30.94\00:33:37.61 So two years went by and she learned about ICC. 00:33:37.91\00:33:42.55 And we eventually were brought to Los Pinos, just like 00:33:43.08\00:33:46.76 most children that went to ICC and were brought to 00:33:47.49\00:33:51.43 Los Pinos were victims of the war. 00:33:51.46\00:33:53.90 ~ Wow, I'm sure you could share more about your story. 00:33:54.60\00:33:58.80 It's a painful experience. 00:33:59.37\00:34:02.64 But the Lord provided a place for you. 00:34:03.00\00:34:05.81 And now you can see how the Lord led and blessed in your life. 00:34:05.84\00:34:11.81 I know that time limits us from hearing more about your story, 00:34:12.91\00:34:16.08 but we praise the Lord where you are now. 00:34:16.12\00:34:18.09 Grizelda, tell us a little bit about your story. 00:34:18.49\00:34:21.16 Okay, I was born in February 1981. 00:34:22.02\00:34:26.73 I was born in Guatemala City. 00:34:26.93\00:34:29.00 My mother was between 14 and 15, 00:34:29.76\00:34:34.54 so she was a teen mom. 00:34:34.57\00:34:35.97 And she didn't really care. 00:34:36.37\00:34:39.01 I don't think she was prepared to be a mom. 00:34:39.04\00:34:41.51 So she did the best she could do to support me. 00:34:41.98\00:34:47.65 And she accepted a job in a prostitution place. 00:34:47.68\00:34:51.59 And I was a newborn, couple of months, living in that place, 00:34:52.22\00:34:56.99 crying all day long. 00:34:57.03\00:34:58.43 She didn't care about me because she needed to work. 00:34:59.16\00:35:02.06 Until my aunt was wondering what was happening with me. 00:35:02.36\00:35:07.27 And she came to that place and she heard a baby 00:35:07.30\00:35:10.21 crying and screaming, and asked what was happening. 00:35:10.24\00:35:13.17 And they told my aunt, "Well, your sister left the baby there 00:35:13.38\00:35:17.45 all day long without food, without anything, 00:35:17.48\00:35:19.65 without changing diapers." 00:35:19.68\00:35:21.15 So my aunt quickly rushed to the room, 00:35:21.45\00:35:27.36 and when she picked me up she noticed that I had like 00:35:27.56\00:35:30.43 some worms on my back. 00:35:30.46\00:35:31.99 And I was in really, really bad shape. 00:35:32.03\00:35:35.06 I was really sick. 00:35:35.10\00:35:36.43 And she got scared and she rushed to the hospital 00:35:36.90\00:35:40.04 because she thought I was dying. 00:35:40.07\00:35:41.97 So at the hospital the doctors did whatever 00:35:43.10\00:35:45.91 they could do to help me. 00:35:45.94\00:35:47.48 And when they gave the green light to my aunt 00:35:47.51\00:35:50.28 that she could take me home, my aunt decided, 00:35:50.31\00:35:52.98 "I'm taking care of this baby." 00:35:53.01\00:35:54.55 So she had a baby too as well, and she was nursing her baby. 00:35:54.58\00:35:58.79 So she decided, "Well, I'm going to nurse my niece too." 00:35:58.99\00:36:01.62 So she was taking care actually of two babies. 00:36:01.66\00:36:04.16 But one day when I was actually healed and better, 00:36:04.43\00:36:09.16 my mom came back and knocked on the door. 00:36:09.20\00:36:12.63 And she really told her, "I'm the mom and I'm taking 00:36:12.67\00:36:16.94 my daughter with me." 00:36:16.97\00:36:18.31 And she just took me. 00:36:18.51\00:36:19.84 My aunt never ever knew about me, and she cried 00:36:19.87\00:36:22.68 and she asked, "Where is the baby? Where is the baby?" 00:36:22.71\00:36:24.95 She never said anything. 00:36:24.98\00:36:26.35 And then after that somehow she knew about Los Pinos. 00:36:26.92\00:36:35.22 And Los Pinos has a house for babies in Guatemala City. 00:36:35.26\00:36:39.66 You needed to travel by car in those days at least two days 00:36:39.69\00:36:42.93 to go to Los Pinos, to the big village 00:36:43.43\00:36:48.97 where we have lots of nature and trees, 00:36:49.00\00:36:51.97 and everything that you saw in the pictures. 00:36:52.01\00:36:54.08 And my mom was like, 00:36:55.28\00:36:57.15 "Who is the administrator of this orphanage?" 00:36:57.18\00:36:59.58 And then they said, "I am." 00:36:59.61\00:37:01.45 "Take my baby." She was such in a rush. 00:37:01.82\00:37:04.02 She was just like, "Take my baby. 00:37:04.05\00:37:05.99 I can't take care of her." 00:37:06.35\00:37:07.69 And the administrator was like, "What?" 00:37:07.79\00:37:11.93 And she said, "Well, what is her name?" 00:37:11.96\00:37:14.70 And the administrator's husband said, "What is her name? 00:37:14.90\00:37:17.73 How old is she?" 00:37:17.77\00:37:19.10 And she goes, "What is the birth certificate?" 00:37:19.13\00:37:22.67 And she goes, "I don't have her birth certificate." 00:37:22.87\00:37:25.47 And that was a problem legally for the village, 00:37:25.94\00:37:29.21 bring a kid without a birth certificate. 00:37:29.54\00:37:31.45 And she promised the administrator, 00:37:31.48\00:37:33.15 "Tomorrow I will be here. 00:37:33.18\00:37:35.02 I will bring the birth certificate." 00:37:35.05\00:37:36.79 She never ever showed up. 00:37:37.12\00:37:39.42 So the social worker and the administrator 00:37:39.79\00:37:43.09 traveled almost to all Guatemala. 00:37:43.12\00:37:44.93 They told me, "Oh, we learned all about Guatemala 00:37:44.96\00:37:47.86 because of you." 00:37:48.06\00:37:49.43 Trying to find my mom. 00:37:49.46\00:37:50.87 So on the providence of God, somehow... 00:37:51.17\00:37:55.90 She's not an Adventist. She's not Christian. 00:37:55.94\00:37:58.97 So we don't understand. 00:37:59.01\00:38:00.48 We just understand that that was God's plan, 00:38:00.51\00:38:02.98 how she brought me to Los Pinos without knowing. 00:38:03.01\00:38:06.85 So we are sure that that was God that has a plan for my life 00:38:07.32\00:38:11.49 and saved my life. 00:38:11.52\00:38:12.85 The way God leads in the life, how, you know, we have 00:38:14.42\00:38:18.69 unfortunate in some people, they struggle. 00:38:18.73\00:38:21.86 Sometimes the finances, the difficulties of even supporting 00:38:22.30\00:38:26.84 themselves, they make these decisions 00:38:26.87\00:38:29.14 that sometimes in the future they regret. 00:38:29.34\00:38:32.01 And we don't know the full story. 00:38:32.04\00:38:33.64 It will be revealed eventually in the future. 00:38:33.68\00:38:37.48 But praise the Lord you were able to be a part of this home. 00:38:37.51\00:38:41.28 And there you learned about Jesus. 00:38:41.65\00:38:45.09 And now it's unfortunate we don't have time. 00:38:45.29\00:38:48.82 Maybe you can give us a one-minute 00:38:48.86\00:38:50.76 or 30-second version... 00:38:50.79\00:38:52.13 They are married, you're both married. 00:38:52.16\00:38:55.10 So apparently there's a love story behind this. 00:38:55.33\00:38:58.83 So I don't know who would like to share that. 00:38:59.73\00:39:01.47 Can you give me a little glimpse? 00:39:01.50\00:39:03.67 So we'll do our best. 00:39:04.74\00:39:06.51 Given the sake of time, we'll do our best 00:39:06.54\00:39:11.55 to give a short version of the story. 00:39:11.58\00:39:13.42 So I graduated from high school in 1994 00:39:13.75\00:39:18.02 and left Los Pinos, the children's village. 00:39:18.32\00:39:22.09 My mom had a plan, and two weeks after we graduated from 00:39:22.86\00:39:27.56 high school, my brother and I, 00:39:27.60\00:39:29.03 we moved to Los Angeles, California. 00:39:29.23\00:39:31.30 I was a few years ahead, a few grades ahead of Grizelda. 00:39:31.80\00:39:34.90 She graduated from high school 00:39:35.80\00:39:38.07 about 4 or 5 years later in 1998. 00:39:38.17\00:39:40.68 And she went to the Adventist college in Costa Rica in 2000. 00:39:41.14\00:39:46.41 And so, I was stationed overseas. 00:39:46.68\00:39:50.15 I had joined the Navy to see the world 00:39:50.35\00:39:52.79 and get a college education. 00:39:52.82\00:39:55.66 So years went by, about 9 years. 00:39:55.69\00:39:59.66 And somehow she got my email address and sent me an email. 00:39:59.69\00:40:05.10 ~ Somehow, huh? 00:40:05.13\00:40:06.47 This was in early 2003. 00:40:06.50\00:40:09.10 And I responded. 00:40:09.47\00:40:11.04 So she can tell you a little about that exchange. 00:40:11.07\00:40:14.34 So I have a friend at college that said, 00:40:14.54\00:40:17.65 "Do you know Milton visited us at Los Pinos?" 00:40:17.68\00:40:20.08 And I said, "Oh, great." 00:40:20.12\00:40:21.45 "Do you remember him?" And I said, "Yes, I do." 00:40:21.48\00:40:23.79 And then because honestly, I did not like Milton at the village, 00:40:24.15\00:40:28.12 because he was this obedient boy excels in grades, 00:40:28.76\00:40:34.23 number one." 00:40:34.26\00:40:35.60 So the administrator always was like, "Look at Milton. 00:40:35.63\00:40:39.13 He's a good boy, he behaves good. 00:40:39.17\00:40:41.30 Look at Milton, he has good grades. 00:40:41.34\00:40:43.00 He's a hard worker. 00:40:43.04\00:40:44.37 Look at Milton. Look at Milton." 00:40:44.41\00:40:45.74 For every meeting they would, "Look at Milton." 00:40:45.77\00:40:49.34 So I kind of disliked him, because you learn about God 00:40:49.78\00:40:54.15 at the orphanage, and then you learn that you 00:40:54.18\00:40:56.18 follow Jesus' example. 00:40:56.22\00:40:57.55 So I was like, "Why do I need to follow this boy's example? 00:40:57.59\00:41:00.19 He's a human being just like me." 00:41:00.22\00:41:02.06 So we never exchanged a word at the village. 00:41:02.79\00:41:06.09 We never, we never... 00:41:06.13\00:41:08.50 She grew up in a different home. 00:41:08.83\00:41:10.47 ...talked like a friendship. 00:41:10.50\00:41:12.07 So when we were in college, my friend said 00:41:12.37\00:41:14.80 "Let's send him an email." 00:41:14.84\00:41:16.17 And I said, "Sure." 00:41:16.20\00:41:17.54 So I sent him one line and a half. 00:41:17.57\00:41:19.07 "Hi Milton, I am Grizelda." 00:41:19.37\00:41:21.81 And I said my single last name, Lopez. 00:41:21.84\00:41:23.95 "Do you remember me? 00:41:24.15\00:41:25.61 I have black hair, I'm skinny," and probably said black eyes. 00:41:25.65\00:41:30.02 And then I never thought he would answer back to me, 00:41:30.42\00:41:33.12 honestly, because we never were friends ever. 00:41:33.15\00:41:37.19 And then he answered me a page and a half, 00:41:37.23\00:41:41.20 like telling me everything about himself. 00:41:42.10\00:41:44.93 And I was like, okay. 00:41:45.27\00:41:47.10 And then, "Here is my number. You can call me." 00:41:47.30\00:41:49.50 So that's how we started. 00:41:49.54\00:41:50.97 We were good friends like for five years. 00:41:51.01\00:41:53.24 ~ Praise the Lord. 00:41:53.27\00:41:54.61 It was always nice to reconnect. 00:41:55.98\00:41:58.28 And to be honest with you, it's been 20 years since 00:41:58.31\00:42:02.05 she sent me that email. 00:42:02.55\00:42:03.92 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord. 00:42:05.22\00:42:06.55 I know there's more to the story, but let's find out about 00:42:06.59\00:42:09.36 your baptism, how you both decided to say, 00:42:09.39\00:42:12.13 "You know, I'm giving my life to the Lord because 00:42:12.16\00:42:14.53 this is the best thing I can do." 00:42:14.90\00:42:16.43 I was in the Pathfinder at the village. 00:42:19.40\00:42:21.90 We had Pathfinders like the United States 00:42:21.94\00:42:24.21 and we had a lot of activities, like 00:42:24.24\00:42:25.87 really, really good activities. 00:42:25.97\00:42:27.94 And we enjoyed it. All kids there love Pathfinders. 00:42:28.18\00:42:30.91 We did enjoy being a Pathfinder. 00:42:30.95\00:42:33.25 So we had a lot of classes learning about Jesus. 00:42:33.28\00:42:36.38 A little bit more deep than just kids that are not in Pathfinder. 00:42:36.69\00:42:40.92 And I remember the story of Joseph. 00:42:41.16\00:42:43.69 And always the story of Joseph was on my brain, 00:42:43.73\00:42:47.43 like Joseph was faithful to God, he was loyal to God, 00:42:47.46\00:42:50.83 he could forgive the brothers. 00:42:50.87\00:42:52.57 And then we learned about Jesus dying on the cross. 00:42:52.60\00:42:57.94 And then I understood the sacrifice He made for us. 00:42:58.27\00:43:02.08 So one day I just felt the Holy Spirit talk to me. 00:43:02.28\00:43:05.88 And I said, "I want to be like Joseph." 00:43:05.91\00:43:07.62 Probably I need to learn more, you know, spiritually. 00:43:07.65\00:43:10.75 But my goal was, "I'm going to give my life to You 00:43:10.79\00:43:14.62 and I want You to help me to be as loyal as Joseph with You." 00:43:14.66\00:43:18.73 And so that's how I accepted Jesus to be my Savior 00:43:18.93\00:43:23.10 and to be baptized. 00:43:23.13\00:43:24.70 Well I want to thank you guys for your time. 00:43:25.23\00:43:28.04 We have a picture of Milton's baptism. 00:43:28.07\00:43:30.64 And your story is so exciting. Praise God. 00:43:30.77\00:43:34.34 Look at Milton in the baptismal water. 00:43:34.38\00:43:36.81 That is a very, very meaningful and inspiring picture. 00:43:36.85\00:43:43.22 God bless you guys and thank you so much 00:43:43.52\00:43:46.65 for what you're doing. 00:43:46.76\00:43:48.09 And you're a perfect example of what the Lord can do 00:43:48.12\00:43:52.39 and will do in the lives of the many children, 00:43:52.43\00:43:55.30 and keeps doing in the lives of the children 00:43:55.33\00:43:58.97 that have been under the care of ICC. 00:43:59.00\00:44:01.30 Internationally, I mean, in so many different countries. 00:44:01.34\00:44:05.74 - So thank you - Thank you so much. 00:44:05.77\00:44:07.64 And you're both an inspiration. 00:44:08.21\00:44:11.48 And it's a testament to the work of the 00:44:12.18\00:44:15.02 International Children's Care, your testimony. 00:44:15.05\00:44:17.79 And thank you for sharing part of your love story. 00:44:17.82\00:44:20.12 Yes, it's wonderful. 00:44:20.16\00:44:21.56 - Thank you so much. - Thank you. 00:44:21.59\00:44:23.02 May God continue to bless you. 00:44:23.06\00:44:24.39 Yes, we want to continue here in the studio with Rick and Brian 00:44:24.43\00:44:27.96 because there are so many things. 00:44:28.00\00:44:29.86 I mean, this program could go for 4 hours, 00:44:29.90\00:44:32.10 there are so many wonderful things. 00:44:32.13\00:44:33.97 But the industry that you have, Rick, you have a pepper farm. 00:44:34.00\00:44:40.18 Talk to us about this. 00:44:40.21\00:44:41.61 ~ Well, it's something that's really a passion for me, 00:44:41.64\00:44:44.61 because I feel like we need to do something 00:44:44.65\00:44:48.92 to help provide the funding. 00:44:48.95\00:44:50.45 Because it's always a challenge. 00:44:50.49\00:44:53.05 Especially with inflation and everything that's 00:44:53.09\00:44:55.62 going on around the world. 00:44:55.66\00:44:56.99 I mean, it's a blessing for people to be able to give funds. 00:44:58.43\00:45:03.06 You know, really, we feel like it's a mission to the donors. 00:45:03.10\00:45:06.03 Because I give money to ICC and to other organizations, 00:45:06.07\00:45:12.84 you know, and it's a blessing when you do that. 00:45:12.87\00:45:15.24 But I think also an organization like that should do everything 00:45:15.84\00:45:18.98 we can, you know, to be able to provide funds, generate funds. 00:45:19.01\00:45:23.15 So one of the things that's working well for us 00:45:23.39\00:45:26.19 is in Mexico, we have quite a bit of land there 00:45:26.22\00:45:31.09 and we've been able to develop a commercial farm 00:45:31.13\00:45:34.50 with jalapeno peppers, tomatillos, and other kinds. 00:45:34.53\00:45:38.77 Now this year we're doing watermelon, 00:45:38.97\00:45:42.14 and we're doing some other things. 00:45:42.44\00:45:44.67 ~ You can have the jalapenos, I will have the watermelon. 00:45:45.74\00:45:48.11 I would call it the salsa fields, you know. 00:45:48.14\00:45:51.95 ~ Right. ~ The ingredients are there. 00:45:51.98\00:45:53.45 We have several other kinds of peppers too. 00:45:53.48\00:45:55.68 And those products, it's a commercial thing, 00:45:55.95\00:46:00.42 so we actually export them to the United States. 00:46:00.46\00:46:03.32 And this year we're looking at purchasing 00:46:03.83\00:46:06.83 some additional property. 00:46:06.86\00:46:08.46 And so we're reaching out to our donors to help, 00:46:09.60\00:46:13.00 you know, to get the funds for that. 00:46:13.03\00:46:15.70 And our goal is, not only to provide for that project there 00:46:16.04\00:46:23.11 in Mexico, which is in the Baja California area 00:46:23.14\00:46:26.18 down past Ensenada, not only for that project, 00:46:26.48\00:46:31.45 but projects in other parts of the world. 00:46:31.49\00:46:33.56 And so, I've already experimented, 00:46:33.86\00:46:35.46 and a couple of years ago they had enough funds 00:46:35.49\00:46:38.59 that they could send some money. 00:46:38.63\00:46:39.96 We sent some to Guatemala. 00:46:40.00\00:46:42.56 And there's no problem doing that, so as people help 00:46:42.60\00:46:47.47 to invest in that kind of thing, 00:46:47.50\00:46:49.20 that invests in other children too around the world. 00:46:49.50\00:46:52.64 ~ Praise the Lord. 00:46:52.71\00:46:54.04 You know, Rick and Brian, the spiritual aspect 00:46:54.08\00:46:59.48 of the program is very, very important. 00:46:59.51\00:47:01.42 That's why you guys are doing this. 00:47:01.45\00:47:02.85 ~ Yes, exactly. 00:47:02.88\00:47:04.22 There is life eternal to come, and there's life in Jesus. 00:47:04.25\00:47:08.49 There's peace, there's hope, and there's completeness. 00:47:08.52\00:47:11.59 There's healing. 00:47:11.63\00:47:12.96 And this is what you're teaching these children. 00:47:12.99\00:47:16.06 We have a video that is called, Together. 00:47:16.10\00:47:19.27 And when we return, if you don't mind, Brian, 00:47:19.30\00:47:21.77 talk to us about the spiritual elements, okay, of the program. 00:47:21.80\00:47:26.44 So let's watch this, Together, video. 00:47:26.54\00:47:29.54 Can you imagine the suffering of young children 00:47:30.91\00:47:33.82 who have lost both parents? 00:47:33.85\00:47:35.62 Can you imagine the difference we can make for these children 00:47:36.12\00:47:38.95 by working together? 00:47:38.99\00:47:40.96 Together. 00:47:42.36\00:47:43.69 The word itself seems to banish loneliness and despair. 00:47:43.86\00:47:47.86 It empowers us to accomplish much more than we could 00:47:48.16\00:47:50.80 using our own strength. 00:47:50.83\00:47:52.43 Together we can right wrongs, we can bind wounds, 00:47:52.63\00:47:56.37 we can heal broken hearts. 00:47:56.57\00:47:58.77 Skilled counselors help the children to process their 00:49:05.54\00:49:07.98 trauma, and their teachers, pastors, and family members 00:49:08.01\00:49:11.11 remind them daily of how much they are loved, 00:49:11.15\00:49:13.92 not only by those around them, 00:49:13.95\00:49:15.48 but by their heavenly Father as well. 00:49:15.78\00:49:18.29 By working together, what will be accomplished 00:49:35.97\00:49:39.74 Experience the difference you will make 00:49:40.08\00:49:42.08 by working together with ICC. 00:49:42.11\00:49:45.05 In the Bible we read in James 1:27, 00:49:53.19\00:49:56.12 "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father 00:49:56.16\00:50:02.00 is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, 00:50:02.03\00:50:06.43 and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." 00:50:06.67\00:50:10.01 So it mentions that orphans are in trouble. 00:50:10.04\00:50:12.81 And I believe our spiritual component of this mission, 00:50:13.01\00:50:17.21 our calling is that God Himself has ordained 00:50:17.25\00:50:21.52 orphan care as part of pure religion. 00:50:21.55\00:50:25.25 To take care of the troubled nature 00:50:25.45\00:50:28.79 of these young people's lives, these children's lives. 00:50:28.82\00:50:32.23 ICC fulfills that mission through donors and sponsors. 00:50:32.26\00:50:37.67 In fact, the donors and sponsors themselves are fulfilling 00:50:37.70\00:50:40.77 that mission through ICC. 00:50:40.80\00:50:42.50 We're more just a conduit to do that. 00:50:42.54\00:50:45.74 The children on each campus learns to grow in Jesus. 00:50:46.57\00:50:50.35 We heard about Milton and Grizelda. 00:50:50.38\00:50:52.81 And we're grateful that they pass that legacy onto 00:50:53.25\00:50:55.98 their children and new families that they create. 00:50:56.02\00:50:59.15 ~ Amen. ~ Excellent, praise the Lord. 00:50:59.19\00:51:01.19 Just briefly, Rick and Brian, whichever one would like 00:51:02.09\00:51:05.13 to say, if someone becomes a monthly sponsor, 00:51:05.16\00:51:08.16 do they get information like videos, like this, or pictures? 00:51:08.20\00:51:11.63 Yes, in fact sponsoring is a good way to connect with ICC. 00:51:11.67\00:51:16.30 Although you can just give a donation on a monthly basis, 00:51:16.34\00:51:20.38 or however, you want. 00:51:20.41\00:51:21.74 You can also be connected to a child if you want to sponsor 00:51:21.78\00:51:25.41 on a monthly basis. 00:51:25.45\00:51:26.78 And then you receive information about them regularly. 00:51:26.82\00:51:30.75 So that's a really fun way to sponsor. 00:51:30.79\00:51:32.99 ~ Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:51:33.59\00:51:34.92 Well, our time is escaping from us and we need to go 00:51:35.16\00:51:38.23 to the address roll. 00:51:38.26\00:51:39.83 I'm sure many of you would like to support 00:51:39.86\00:51:43.16 International Children's Care, 00:51:43.20\00:51:45.07 to sponsor or maybe a one-time donation. 00:51:45.47\00:51:47.60 And then after this, we will share news from 3ABN. 00:51:47.64\00:51:50.61 We'll be back in a moment. 00:51:50.64\00:51:51.97
