00:04:55.46\00:04:57.39 Alright, 1 John 3:16-18. 00:04:57.43\00:05:02.73 "By this, we know love, because He laid down His life for us. 00:05:03.53\00:05:08.20 And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." 00:05:08.60\00:05:13.34 Verse 17 says, "But whoever has this world's goods, 00:05:13.81\00:05:18.41 and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, 00:05:18.45\00:05:24.22 how does the love of God abide in him?" 00:05:24.55\00:05:27.46 Verse 18 says, "My little children, let us not 00:05:27.82\00:05:31.83 love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth." 00:05:31.86\00:05:37.33 - Amen, amen. - Amen, amen. 00:05:37.63\00:05:39.57 - This is an invitation. - It's an invitation. 00:05:39.60\00:05:41.60 That's right. 00:05:41.64\00:05:42.97 And brother Paul, do you have anything to share about this? 00:05:43.00\00:05:44.94 You know, this text became very special to me a few years ago. 00:05:44.97\00:05:49.34 I had read that my whole life. 00:05:49.61\00:05:51.61 Growing up you hear that. 00:05:51.65\00:05:52.98 I thought I used to say, "Lord, you know, 00:05:53.01\00:05:54.45 that's talking about laying down my life. 00:05:54.55\00:05:56.79 If there's anything else You'd rather have me do, 00:05:56.99\00:05:59.05 I suppose I could be a martyr, but you know, if there's 00:05:59.09\00:06:01.16 something else You'd rather have me do, 00:06:01.19\00:06:02.69 I'd kind of like to do that, you know." 00:06:02.72\00:06:04.06 I always thought in terms of laying down their life. 00:06:04.09\00:06:06.90 And one day I was sitting in front of a group of 00:06:06.93\00:06:09.53 enthusiastic high school students that were volunteers 00:06:09.56\00:06:12.67 in our organization from California. 00:06:12.70\00:06:14.87 And it was spring time. It was March spring break. 00:06:14.90\00:06:18.24 And I was sitting there waiting for these young people 00:06:18.27\00:06:20.44 to come in, we were going to have worship that morning. 00:06:20.48\00:06:22.24 And I thought, wow, these kids right now could be 00:06:22.78\00:06:26.38 spring skiing in California, they could be out on the ocean, 00:06:26.41\00:06:29.98 they could be back home resting and lying around 00:06:30.09\00:06:33.15 just enjoying their time away from school 00:06:33.19\00:06:35.59 during spring break. 00:06:35.69\00:06:37.03 But they really did lay down their lives in a way 00:06:37.06\00:06:40.63 for those two weeks that they were going to be down there 00:06:40.96\00:06:43.37 sweating it out in the Amazon jungle 00:06:43.40\00:06:45.53 and helping us to impact the lives of people 00:06:45.87\00:06:48.24 that really, really benefit from that interaction. 00:06:48.27\00:06:50.67 And I thought, wow, a whole new meaning to this verse. 00:06:50.71\00:06:53.54 ~ Amen, amen. ~ Amen. 00:06:53.58\00:06:55.34 I really like this part that says in verse 18, 00:06:55.81\00:07:01.85 "Let us not love in word or in tongue, 00:07:02.05\00:07:05.59 but in deed and in truth." 00:07:05.95\00:07:07.46 And really, love is shown not only by the things you do, 00:07:07.49\00:07:12.13 I mean, the things you speak, but also by the things you do. 00:07:12.16\00:07:15.13 And that's the way really love is made known. 00:07:15.63\00:07:19.30 And so, I guess that's why some people say, 00:07:20.34\00:07:22.70 action speaks louder than words. 00:07:22.74\00:07:25.64 Well, this is definitely an opportunity for 00:07:26.61\00:07:29.24 our viewing audience, our family, to say, 00:07:29.54\00:07:32.78 "You know what? 00:07:32.81\00:07:34.15 I want to lay my life for the brethren. 00:07:34.18\00:07:36.69 I want to serve the Lord." 00:07:36.72\00:07:38.22 Sometimes we are presented opportunities. 00:07:38.25\00:07:40.62 In the past we have been presented opportunities, 00:07:40.66\00:07:42.92 and we've not taken advantage of those opportunities. 00:07:42.96\00:07:46.09 So during this hour, it's an invitation for you to 00:07:46.13\00:07:50.43 lay out your life for your brethren 00:07:50.47\00:07:52.37 there in your community, but also abroad. 00:07:52.57\00:07:55.90 The gospel is to be taken to all the world. 00:07:56.34\00:07:59.47 It's not just texts, right? 00:07:59.51\00:08:01.84 We have to live it. 00:08:01.88\00:08:03.28 And what I love about our Lord Jesus, when He was here 00:08:03.31\00:08:06.82 on planet earth, He was showing us service is the way 00:08:06.85\00:08:13.69 to nurture each other, to hold each other up, 00:08:13.72\00:08:16.49 to pray for each other, 00:08:16.52\00:08:18.13 and to fulfill the needs of the people. 00:08:18.16\00:08:21.00 So I admire, I stand in awe of so many things that Jesus did, 00:08:21.03\00:08:25.87 yet He has given us opportunities today 00:08:25.90\00:08:29.17 in this century to pull together 00:08:29.20\00:08:31.64 and do something for our brethren. 00:08:31.67\00:08:33.44 - Absolutely. - Show that love. 00:08:33.48\00:08:34.84 And you're going to hear about people 00:08:35.04\00:08:37.68 doing that in a moment here. 00:08:37.71\00:08:39.18 But we're going to share some wonderful music with you. 00:08:39.21\00:08:42.25 And so, Idalia, what do we have? 00:15:15.78\00:15:17.11 And a lot of people think that's the miracle, 00:15:17.15\00:15:18.98 when your teenage daughter asks you to go along on a trip. 00:15:19.18\00:15:22.38 - Wow! ~ It was an amazing experience. 00:15:22.58\00:15:24.75 And a long story short, I just saw poverty and suffering 00:15:24.79\00:15:29.39 and hopelessness on a level I had never seen it before. 00:15:29.42\00:15:33.29 Not even close. 00:15:33.33\00:15:34.66 And I knew I couldn't change the whole world, 00:15:34.70\00:15:36.97 but I could probably help somebody in the Peru region 00:15:37.00\00:15:43.27 in the jungle area with the poverty that I saw there. 00:15:43.30\00:15:46.17 So I started going back, and one thing led to another. 00:15:46.21\00:15:49.24 I found two little girls on the streets whose mom died 00:15:49.28\00:15:53.42 and they were alone. 00:15:54.15\00:15:55.68 They were six and eight when their mom died. 00:15:55.72\00:15:57.05 When I found them they were eight and ten. 00:15:57.09\00:15:58.62 I ultimately ended up adopting them, 00:15:59.32\00:16:01.06 which is a whole different story. 00:16:01.09\00:16:02.49 They're young adults now with kids of their own 00:16:02.52\00:16:05.23 living in the United States. 00:16:05.26\00:16:06.59 That was a whole story. 00:16:06.63\00:16:07.96 But God provided these relationships every time I went 00:16:08.00\00:16:11.03 that was just like Velcro. 00:16:11.07\00:16:12.87 Every hook was just tighter and tighter 00:16:12.90\00:16:15.14 until we were there full-time. 00:16:15.50\00:16:18.31 I was there full time for ten years building the organization. 00:16:18.51\00:16:21.34 And it was because of a school trip. 00:16:21.38\00:16:23.45 Because of a school trip. 00:16:23.65\00:16:24.98 Because of that invitation your teenage daughter 00:16:25.01\00:16:28.08 extended to you, wow, that is in itself a blessing. 00:16:28.12\00:16:32.79 And for others to hear. 00:16:32.99\00:16:34.89 Because sometimes our kids want us to be part 00:16:34.92\00:16:37.63 of some function in their lives and some parents are, 00:16:37.66\00:16:41.73 quote unquote, too busy. 00:16:42.13\00:16:43.77 Don't rob yourself of that blessing of going and serving 00:16:43.87\00:16:48.10 with your kids. 00:16:48.14\00:16:49.47 So that is a special event, especially, wow, what a nice 00:16:49.50\00:16:54.68 relationship between father and daughter to go as missionaries. 00:16:54.71\00:16:58.95 So you decided to accept. You went over there. 00:16:58.98\00:17:02.02 The Lord orchestrated every step. 00:17:02.72\00:17:04.92 From what I see, and have heard thus far, 00:17:04.95\00:17:07.32 is a chain link bound together, bound together. 00:17:07.52\00:17:10.99 And the chain is stronger and longer and bigger. 00:17:11.03\00:17:13.70 And it's been years. 00:17:14.00\00:17:16.10 What was the year you started the ministry? 00:17:16.13\00:17:18.60 In March of 2000 I went the first time. 00:17:18.63\00:17:21.20 We formalized in about 2004, but I had been 00:17:21.97\00:17:25.54 back and forth many times. 00:17:25.57\00:17:26.91 So part of you is Peruvian already. 00:17:27.31\00:17:30.28 Well, I've been in Machu Picchu enough times that they 00:17:30.88\00:17:35.15 consider me an honorary Inca. 00:17:35.18\00:17:37.05 But that's at the other end of the country. 00:17:37.45\00:17:40.12 That's right, that's right. 00:17:40.16\00:17:41.49 But what is Iquitos? I mean, where is that? 00:17:41.52\00:17:44.03 - Is that in the Amazons? ~ Yes. 00:17:44.06\00:17:45.79 And I'll tell you what's unique about this city. 00:17:45.89\00:17:47.63 It's the largest city on earth that has 00:17:47.66\00:17:50.70 no roads that connect to it. 00:17:50.73\00:17:52.47 So when you get to Lima, you have to take another 00:17:53.10\00:17:56.84 commercial flight up into the jungle 00:17:56.87\00:17:59.24 for an hour and a half, and you land in the 00:17:59.27\00:18:01.28 middle of the largest Amazon jungle in the world. 00:18:01.31\00:18:04.25 You have just flown over the longest mountain range 00:18:04.65\00:18:07.85 in the world, and you've just left the longest arid 00:18:07.88\00:18:10.62 coastline in the world, to get to Iquitos, 00:18:10.65\00:18:12.92 the largest city in the world with no roads leading to it. 00:18:12.95\00:18:15.32 So you can fly to it or you can go by four and a half days 00:18:15.42\00:18:19.53 on the Amazon River by riverboat. 00:18:19.56\00:18:21.80 - You can do that. ~ Wow. Amazing. 00:18:21.83\00:18:23.33 Well, people are googling... I'm sorry to interrupt. 00:18:23.37\00:18:26.74 People are already googling Iquitos. 00:18:26.77\00:18:31.84 ~ Not to be confused with Quito Ecuador. 00:18:31.87\00:18:34.08 Exactly. 00:18:34.11\00:18:35.44 So what was it that motivated you? 00:18:35.48\00:18:36.91 You've kind of hinted towards that already. 00:18:36.95\00:18:39.45 You saw great need. 00:18:39.65\00:18:41.22 I remember being in Lima Peru many years ago, 00:18:41.25\00:18:44.19 and I saw needs in Lima itself. 00:18:44.49\00:18:47.39 I mean, people in the street asking for help, 00:18:47.42\00:18:50.63 even late at night. 00:18:50.96\00:18:52.29 I remember coming back from an evangelistic campaign, 00:18:52.33\00:18:54.60 and even late at night, 10 or 11, people were out there 00:18:54.96\00:18:57.93 asking for help. 00:18:57.97\00:18:59.30 So you saw something that impacted you, and you said, 00:18:59.33\00:19:02.94 "We've got to do something." 00:19:02.97\00:19:04.87 And tell us how that took place, and why Iquitos. 00:19:05.27\00:19:07.84 Well, the abject poverty just was overwhelming. 00:19:07.88\00:19:11.78 And we talk about poverty, you know, in the United States. 00:19:11.81\00:19:15.15 And yes I know there are people here that suffer and struggle, 00:19:15.18\00:19:17.65 but you can't have less than nothing. 00:19:17.69\00:19:20.69 And the poverty there was just absolutely overwhelming. 00:19:20.72\00:19:24.76 I saw so many unattended children, and ultimately 00:19:24.86\00:19:28.10 the two little girls that we adopted 00:19:28.13\00:19:30.20 who are my daughters now and mothers of my grandchildren. 00:19:30.23\00:19:35.20 You know, they were on the street like those kids 00:19:35.54\00:19:39.37 unattended in the middle of the night. 00:19:39.41\00:19:41.38 That's actually where I met them. 00:19:41.41\00:19:42.74 I was out feeding street children 00:19:42.78\00:19:44.15 in the middle of the night. 00:19:44.18\00:19:45.51 And I just, I just... 00:19:45.55\00:19:47.08 That Scripture verse hit home pretty hard. 00:19:47.95\00:19:51.15 And I know that you know, to the extent of my finances 00:19:51.62\00:19:55.72 at that time, I couldn't do nearly this much in the 00:19:55.76\00:20:00.06 United States, but those dollars go a long way 00:20:00.10\00:20:02.23 in developing countries. 00:20:02.26\00:20:03.77 And I started collecting people... 00:20:04.53\00:20:06.53 On these trips back by myself, I'd go back and find people 00:20:06.57\00:20:09.87 with serious medical conditions, mostly medical and dental. 00:20:09.90\00:20:13.74 Nobody fakes a gallbladder surgery to get your money. 00:20:13.98\00:20:17.05 You know, they either need the help or they don't. 00:20:17.25\00:20:18.98 And they have, thousands of people have no recourse 00:20:19.01\00:20:23.45 when they're sick or when they need a life-changing 00:20:23.49\00:20:25.49 or life-saving surgery. 00:20:25.52\00:20:26.86 I started finding people, taking them to a private hospital, 00:20:26.89\00:20:29.56 and just paying the bills. 00:20:29.59\00:20:30.93 It was easy, it was easy. 00:20:30.96\00:20:32.59 Anybody could do it. 00:20:32.79\00:20:34.13 And it was such a blessing. 00:20:34.16\00:20:36.03 Hundreds and hundreds of people whose lives were impacted. 00:20:36.06\00:20:40.14 And I started getting support from friends who were saying, 00:20:40.17\00:20:42.94 "Hey, if you're going to do this again, I'll help you." 00:20:42.97\00:20:44.41 "I'll help you." "I'll help you." 00:20:44.44\00:20:45.77 And it got to the point where I said, wow, this is amazing. 00:20:45.81\00:20:48.51 And God was opening doors that I wasn't even asking 00:20:48.54\00:20:51.18 to have opened. 00:20:51.28\00:20:52.68 And one thing led to another, and I knew that 00:20:52.91\00:20:54.65 this had to be my life work. 00:20:54.68\00:20:56.02 So you saw a need, the Lord put it in your heart 00:20:56.05\00:20:59.95 that something must be done, you saw that you could do, 00:21:00.26\00:21:03.09 but then you realized, "I can't do this by myself." 00:21:03.12\00:21:05.19 And the Lord was putting people in your way, 00:21:05.59\00:21:09.03 or not in your way, but coming forth, coming forward to say, 00:21:09.06\00:21:12.70 "I can help." 00:21:12.73\00:21:14.07 So this led to starting the ministry, 00:21:14.10\00:21:16.24 the People of Peru Project. 00:21:16.27\00:21:17.61 ~ Yes. 00:21:17.64\00:21:18.97 What is the basis of the ministry? 00:21:19.01\00:21:20.48 Do you have a place there? 00:21:20.51\00:21:22.11 Or is it just trips that you come and then 00:21:22.68\00:21:26.15 you do what you need to do? 00:21:26.78\00:21:28.52 ~ No, we actually have a place. 00:21:28.55\00:21:30.65 And there are some amazing stories. 00:21:30.69\00:21:32.82 And I love to tell the stories. 00:21:32.85\00:21:34.92 So if people, you know, like stories in their home churches 00:21:34.96\00:21:38.89 or somewhere like that, I'm happy to come. 00:21:38.93\00:21:41.06 I love to go tell the stories. 00:21:41.10\00:21:43.16 But I can tell you in short that we wanted to help children 00:21:43.37\00:21:49.40 like the ones I found on the streets, 00:21:49.44\00:21:51.34 like the girls that are my daughters now. 00:21:51.37\00:21:53.44 We wanted to help children. 00:21:53.48\00:21:54.81 So we bought a piece of land and were getting ready to 00:21:54.84\00:21:58.48 to build a facility for kids. 00:21:58.51\00:22:00.15 But of course, you can't just start collecting kids. 00:22:00.18\00:22:02.38 You need to have permission. 00:22:02.58\00:22:03.99 And it is a miracle story that is profound of how God 00:22:04.39\00:22:09.26 opened the doors to that childcare facility 00:22:09.29\00:22:11.43 that would have taken years of red tape and legalities. 00:22:11.76\00:22:15.46 And God did it in one week through the family court judge, 00:22:15.76\00:22:21.40 the highest authority in the land when it came to 00:22:21.44\00:22:24.87 unattended children. 00:22:24.91\00:22:26.24 And what an amazing miracle story how God opened up that 00:22:26.41\00:22:30.45 facility for these kids. 00:22:30.48\00:22:32.78 So we built this facility. 00:22:32.81\00:22:35.18 We started out with an old building that looked like 00:22:35.22\00:22:37.22 a barn, and had never intended to put kids in there. 00:22:37.25\00:22:40.69 But the need; all of a sudden children started coming. 00:22:40.89\00:22:43.83 And it was just amazing how God opened those doors. 00:22:43.86\00:22:46.83 So the medical work was something I had started with. 00:22:47.16\00:22:51.20 And of course, I'm not a doctor. 00:22:51.23\00:22:52.57 I owned a logging company when I started going to Peru. 00:22:52.60\00:22:55.90 And so, you know, I started bringing help, 00:22:56.20\00:23:00.11 and people were coming to help me to do this 00:23:00.14\00:23:02.04 medical work and dental work, and we were just doing it 00:23:02.08\00:23:04.35 in poor communities. 00:23:04.38\00:23:05.71 And we knew we needed a facility. 00:23:05.75\00:23:07.52 And we ultimately built a little clinic, which we did over 00:23:07.55\00:23:10.59 a hundred surgeries in, but it was really a dental clinic. 00:23:10.62\00:23:13.22 And the medical work just exploded on us. 00:23:13.92\00:23:17.66 We have groups coming from all over the world now 00:23:17.86\00:23:20.56 to help us do medical work. 00:23:20.60\00:23:22.73 We've given free medical and dental care 00:23:22.76\00:23:24.67 to over 65,000 people in that city. 00:23:24.70\00:23:26.84 ~ Praise the Lord. ~ 65,000 praise the Lord. 00:23:26.87\00:23:30.34 Now you're saying this was done free? 00:23:30.87\00:23:34.28 Or did the people have to pay something? 00:23:34.31\00:23:35.68 Free, everything is free. 00:23:35.71\00:23:37.11 We're not going to go down that slippery slope. 00:23:37.15\00:23:39.58 And I know this is a philosophical debate, 00:23:39.61\00:23:41.48 and I've had it with many, many people, 00:23:41.88\00:23:43.28 but we've seen far too many institutions that started out 00:23:43.32\00:23:46.39 helping poor people that ended up being the wealthiest 00:23:46.42\00:23:50.16 most expensive facilities in the area. 00:23:50.19\00:23:52.49 And we're simply not going to allow that to happen. 00:23:52.53\00:23:54.86 We are serving people who have nothing. 00:23:54.90\00:23:58.30 They don't have the money to come to the city 00:23:58.33\00:24:00.84 to get the help, never mind to pay for the hospital. 00:24:00.87\00:24:03.67 Even a token payment, they have no money. 00:24:03.87\00:24:06.27 And so, this is free. 00:24:06.47\00:24:09.14 All of these services have been provided through the generosity 00:24:09.54\00:24:12.71 of our supporters all these years. 00:24:12.75\00:24:14.98 And God is just blessing ways. 00:24:15.02\00:24:16.62 This is a good time to say this: 00:24:16.82\00:24:18.99 to your listening audience, about anything that 00:24:19.02\00:24:23.36 God has put on their heart to do; I don't care if it's 00:24:23.39\00:24:26.59 in their own backyard, their own community, 00:24:26.63\00:24:28.46 their own church, their own family, 00:24:28.50\00:24:30.40 their young people, the homeless in their community, 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.47 it doesn't matter what it is, if God has put a burden 00:24:32.50\00:24:36.87 on your heart to do something, it is never about the money. 00:24:36.91\00:24:41.74 Never! 00:24:41.78\00:24:43.11 If God calls you to do something He has already allocated the 00:24:43.31\00:24:47.55 resources to do it, or He would have never called you. 00:24:47.58\00:24:50.95 - Amen, amen. - That's right. 00:24:50.99\00:24:52.42 I was an employer for a lot of years, and to my knowledge 00:24:52.45\00:24:54.92 I never ever asked my people to do something 00:24:54.96\00:24:58.43 without giving the resources, the equipment to do it. 00:24:58.46\00:25:01.63 And God is a much better employer than I am. 00:25:01.73\00:25:03.67 ~ Amen, amen. ~ Amen, praise the Lord. 00:25:03.77\00:25:05.37 So one thing led to another. 00:25:05.40\00:25:06.94 Education is the key to our program. 00:25:06.97\00:25:09.74 Our little girls that are out at our crisis center 00:25:09.77\00:25:12.91 for abandoned and abused children, 00:25:12.94\00:25:14.71 they're of course in school. 00:25:14.91\00:25:16.41 A lot of them need remedial education. 00:25:16.68\00:25:18.61 Some of them are there for reasons that are so horrible 00:25:18.65\00:25:21.85 that we can't talk about it on television. 00:25:21.88\00:25:23.99 When those kids are finished there, 00:25:25.12\00:25:26.82 or other students from the community, 00:25:26.86\00:25:28.62 they come into our post-high school program. 00:25:28.66\00:25:30.79 We have full scholarships going through the university. 00:25:30.83\00:25:33.19 The very first child I ever helped in Iquitos 00:25:33.70\00:25:36.97 20 years ago, the very first kid that I ever met, 00:25:37.00\00:25:40.94 is now a child psychologist, 00:25:41.44\00:25:43.37 has her masters in Business Administration, 00:25:43.57\00:25:46.07 and has been the executive director of our organization 00:25:46.57\00:25:49.04 for seven years. 00:25:49.08\00:25:50.41 And her little brother is our dentist. 00:25:50.81\00:25:53.55 And he was seven years old when I met him. 00:25:53.58\00:25:55.55 ~ Also, you can see the stories on our website. 00:25:55.78\00:25:58.49 And I wish I had time to tell you, 00:25:58.52\00:26:00.19 so please go to the website. 00:26:00.22\00:26:02.22 Praise the Lord. What is the website? 00:26:23.21\00:26:25.08 It's, peopleofperu.org. 00:26:25.11\00:26:27.05 peopleofperu.org 00:26:27.38\00:26:29.12 ~ Not very difficult. - No, not very difficult. 00:26:29.32\00:26:31.49 ~ So you have spoken to the audience, our radio listeners, 00:26:31.52\00:26:34.92 to our audience, our viewers about taking opportunities 00:26:34.96\00:26:39.69 to serve once the Lord calls you or puts that burden, 00:26:39.73\00:26:42.73 that fire, that curiosity in your heart to see what it 00:26:42.76\00:26:46.97 feels like to serve something in a capacity that 00:26:47.00\00:26:50.91 you're not accustomed to. 00:26:50.94\00:26:52.31 But we already mentioned some of the programs 00:26:52.34\00:26:55.28 that you facilitate to the People of Peru Project. 00:26:55.48\00:26:59.18 So you have dentists, you have a clinic, 00:26:59.21\00:27:01.82 you have an orphanage, you have a school. 00:27:01.85\00:27:04.35 What, elementary, high school? 00:27:05.72\00:27:07.82 ~ Well, our kids go to the public schools. 00:27:07.86\00:27:11.96 And the reason for that is all of them are there, 00:27:12.36\00:27:14.90 especially the crisis center, all those children have been 00:27:15.20\00:27:17.73 victims of something. 00:27:17.77\00:27:19.10 And they came to us because they had to be somewhere 00:27:19.37\00:27:23.47 other than where they were. 00:27:23.51\00:27:24.97 And so, essentially, they're not there by choice, 00:27:25.64\00:27:29.74 but they have to be somewhere. 00:27:29.78\00:27:31.11 So we want them to want to be there 00:27:31.15\00:27:33.15 and take advantage of that opportunity. 00:27:33.48\00:27:35.05 But they've already lost their community, 00:27:35.28\00:27:37.85 they've already lost their family, their friends, 00:27:37.89\00:27:39.62 everything that was familiar to them. 00:27:39.65\00:27:41.39 If we put them in a private school, 00:27:41.92\00:27:44.33 we're sequestering them even more. 00:27:44.36\00:27:46.33 And so, we keep them in the local school 00:27:46.70\00:27:49.80 in our little community 00:27:49.83\00:27:51.17 where they keep their foot in their culture 00:27:51.93\00:27:53.97 and, you know, they're like everybody else. 00:27:54.00\00:27:57.67 We want them to be normalized in that sense, and not even be 00:27:57.77\00:28:01.34 isolated all the more, especially given 00:28:01.44\00:28:03.24 their background and history and some of the shame 00:28:03.65\00:28:06.21 and embarrassment that they need to get over 00:28:06.25\00:28:07.92 in their own personal experience. 00:28:08.65\00:28:10.05 We don't want to separate them even more. 00:28:10.25\00:28:12.42 And so, we don't have a school. 00:28:12.52\00:28:14.96 And in the post high school program, 00:28:15.29\00:28:17.49 our kids have scholarships to the local university 00:28:17.53\00:28:21.60 and technical trade schools, and all that kind of thing. 00:28:21.63\00:28:24.07 So we are keeping them engaged in their culture. 00:28:24.33\00:28:28.40 So the leaders and staff are people that 00:28:29.24\00:28:34.31 received help themselves also. 00:28:34.61\00:28:37.75 Interestingly enough, yes. 00:28:37.78\00:28:39.31 I mean, our dentist we put through dental school. 00:28:39.35\00:28:41.32 Our executive director, like I said, were the very first 00:28:41.68\00:28:44.42 family I met. 00:28:44.45\00:28:45.79 They did not have the abuse type of crisis, 00:28:45.82\00:28:49.76 but extreme poverty because of some health issues 00:28:49.79\00:28:52.56 in the family. 00:28:52.59\00:28:53.93 And wow, it's been amazing to watch these young people 00:28:53.96\00:28:57.43 just flourish, lead, and set examples for the rest of the 00:28:57.47\00:29:02.90 people that they're working with. 00:29:02.94\00:29:04.44 It's been amazing. 00:29:04.47\00:29:05.81 The director of our girls facility came to us at our girls 00:29:05.84\00:29:09.88 facility as a 12-year-old abandoned, abused child. 00:29:09.91\00:29:12.85 ~ And we put her through elementary school, high school, 00:29:13.52\00:29:15.52 and nursing school. 00:29:15.55\00:29:17.02 And then she fell in love and married a long-term volunteer. 00:29:17.52\00:29:21.76 A young man that had been coming back and forth 00:29:21.79\00:29:23.46 from the Washington state coast. 00:29:23.49\00:29:26.29 And now there's a beautiful story. 00:29:26.63\00:29:29.56 And you can see it on the website. 00:29:29.60\00:29:31.23 A cliffhanger. 00:29:32.40\00:29:33.94 And they tell their own story. It's amazing. 00:29:34.30\00:29:37.11 ~ Excellent, excellent. 00:29:37.94\00:29:39.27 The Lord continue to bless. 00:29:39.31\00:29:40.64 I know we're all excited already for what you've shared with us. 00:29:40.68\00:29:45.55 I'm like, oh I would love to go and see all that 00:29:46.21\00:29:49.38 and be part of somebody's success story, you know. 00:29:49.42\00:29:54.46 The transformation miracle story. 00:29:54.49\00:29:57.13 But there are different ways we can all pitch in and help. 00:29:57.16\00:30:00.80 And I know you have pictures, I know you have video. 00:30:00.83\00:30:03.37 I don't know where you want to go now, 00:30:03.40\00:30:05.30 but please tell us who are these leaders? 00:30:05.33\00:30:08.97 Where did you find them for this ministry, 00:30:09.00\00:30:12.07 the People of Peru Project? 00:30:12.11\00:30:14.11 We found these leaders, like the two I mentioned, 00:30:14.14\00:30:17.35 our dentist and the executive director, 00:30:17.38\00:30:19.18 down in the slums outside the city in abject poverty. 00:30:19.21\00:30:22.92 And I have a video that's actually talking about 00:30:22.95\00:30:27.12 our next big thing, which is our surgery center and hospital, 00:30:27.16\00:30:32.33 and the need for that. 00:30:32.56\00:30:34.40 But it tells a part of their story too. 00:30:34.50\00:30:36.87 It will be another little teasers on the way through 00:30:36.90\00:30:39.20 so you'll want to know more about these young people. 00:30:39.23\00:30:41.24 Because they're amazing. 00:30:41.27\00:30:42.60 So we can look at that video now 00:30:42.67\00:30:44.24 and that could answer some questions. 00:30:44.27\00:30:45.61 Let's go ahead and go to that video. 00:30:45.64\00:30:46.98 And be prepared to be blessed. 00:30:47.01\00:30:49.44 People of Peru Project has been involved in medical and 00:30:53.05\00:30:55.08 dental work since the very beginning. 00:30:55.12\00:30:57.22 We're very excited now to tell you that we've just purchased 00:30:57.25\00:30:59.92 an 8000 square foot building that literally borders 00:30:59.95\00:31:03.02 the property that we already own. 00:31:03.06\00:31:04.83 The need for this surgery center is huge. 00:31:04.86\00:31:08.60 There are tens of thousands of people in our city of 00:31:08.63\00:31:11.50 three-quarters of a million who simply have no 00:31:11.53\00:31:14.70 recourse when they need a life-changing, 00:31:15.10\00:31:18.34 life-saving surgery. 00:31:18.54\00:31:20.71 If there's not money, there simply is not an option. 00:31:20.74\00:31:23.95 So the surgery center will be offering cataract surgeries, 00:31:23.98\00:31:27.45 general surgeries, a lot of hernias, a lot of gallbladders, 00:31:27.65\00:31:30.45 a lot of scar releases, moles, tumors, 00:31:30.49\00:31:33.05 uterine infection type things, hysterectomies, ob complication, 00:31:33.09\00:31:37.49 things like that. 00:31:37.53\00:31:38.86 And the continuity, the longevity that we have 00:31:38.89\00:31:42.23 in the community has really given us relationship 00:31:42.26\00:31:45.83 and credibility in the communities where we work. 00:31:45.87\00:31:48.67 They know us. We know them. 00:31:48.70\00:31:50.54 We have people on staff now full-time that were born and 00:31:50.97\00:31:54.41 raised in this location, in this culture, 00:31:54.44\00:31:57.18 and they're better equipped to serve in a lot of areas 00:31:57.38\00:32:00.98 than we are without them. 00:32:01.02\00:32:02.85 For example, one of the first little boys that I ever met in 00:32:02.88\00:32:06.62 Iquitos was seven years old. 00:32:06.65\00:32:08.26 We've put him through dental school. 00:32:08.82\00:32:11.06 And all these years later, now he's leading the charge 00:32:11.26\00:32:13.90 on the development of our dental facility. 00:32:13.93\00:32:16.30 We'll continue to do what we've done for 15 years; 00:32:48.13\00:32:50.50 go into the remote villages, and to the communities, 00:32:50.53\00:32:53.47 and the outskirts of town, the poor communities, 00:32:53.50\00:32:56.54 and we'll set up in any available space that we can. 00:32:56.74\00:33:00.54 Sometimes it's in a series of people's homes, 00:33:00.58\00:33:02.54 along the streets, sometimes it's in a public 00:33:02.58\00:33:04.48 building, sometimes a church or school. 00:33:04.51\00:33:06.28 And we'll continue to do that even when our surgery 00:33:06.65\00:33:09.42 center is finished. 00:33:09.45\00:33:10.79 But the key is, we'll have a central location 00:33:10.82\00:33:13.86 for the procedures that we simply can't do 00:33:13.89\00:33:16.26 on somebody's kitchen table. 00:33:16.29\00:33:18.06 We're looking at about a million-dollar project 00:33:18.56\00:33:21.16 for the complete renovation of this large space that we have. 00:33:21.46\00:33:26.67 But when it's done, lives will be impacted 00:33:26.97\00:33:29.94 in quantities and in ways that really won't be measured 00:33:30.47\00:33:34.44 by dollars and cents. 00:33:34.48\00:33:35.94 Well, the people of Peru need your help. 00:33:42.68\00:33:44.99 And the People of Peru Project needs your help. 00:33:45.02\00:33:47.92 And you can be a part of a great miracle. 00:33:48.19\00:33:50.73 An ongoing miracle because day by day 00:33:50.76\00:33:53.36 free service to the people, showing the love of Jesus Christ 00:33:53.40\00:33:58.20 in a marvelous way. 00:33:58.23\00:33:59.73 This is what Jesus showed us that we should be doing. 00:34:01.54\00:34:06.91 Helping people as much as we can. 00:34:06.94\00:34:08.84 ~ And interestingly enough, when we become the hands and feet 00:34:09.14\00:34:14.32 of Jesus in these communities on many levels... 00:34:14.35\00:34:17.12 We have a water filtration program, 00:34:17.15\00:34:18.85 we do all kinds of health education, 00:34:18.89\00:34:20.39 many, many things. 00:34:20.42\00:34:21.79 But the surgeries, the dental work, whatever it is, 00:34:21.82\00:34:24.13 you become the hands and feet of Christ, 00:34:24.33\00:34:26.13 and then people start asking, "Wait. Why are you doing this? 00:34:26.16\00:34:29.46 Why are you different than the other people we've met?" 00:34:30.00\00:34:33.64 ~ "What's in it for you?" 00:34:33.67\00:34:35.00 And this is the open door for ministry. 00:34:35.04\00:34:37.14 So people ask me all the time, you know, 00:34:37.34\00:34:39.01 "Do you do ministry, direct ministry? 00:34:39.04\00:34:41.28 Do you have meetings? Do you do..." 00:34:41.31\00:34:42.64 Oh, we've done hundreds of vacation Bible schools, 00:34:42.68\00:34:46.35 hundreds of evangelistic series, 00:34:46.55\00:34:48.58 because we're invited into the communities 00:34:48.78\00:34:51.09 after we've been there building relationships. 00:34:51.12\00:34:54.06 ~ Amen, amen. 00:34:54.09\00:34:55.42 That's such a key and so important: relationships. 00:34:55.46\00:34:59.83 Relationships. 00:35:00.10\00:35:01.43 They have earned your trust and they have learned 00:35:01.46\00:35:04.00 that they can count on you, that you're going to be there. 00:35:04.03\00:35:06.67 Not just for them. 00:35:06.77\00:35:08.10 Like, they will say, "They've been there for me, 00:35:08.14\00:35:10.11 and I know they'll be there for you too." 00:35:10.14\00:35:12.44 So right now we need volunteers, we need help. 00:35:12.64\00:35:16.24 What role do volunteers play in the People of Peru Project? 00:35:16.28\00:35:21.48 I mean, we just saw that video. 00:35:21.68\00:35:23.79 We need a million dollars. 00:35:23.82\00:35:25.15 So we need to pull together and get the million dollars. 00:35:25.42\00:35:28.12 Fortunately, we've raised part of that. 00:35:28.32\00:35:31.33 And so we're closer to only needing half a million. 00:35:31.36\00:35:34.53 ~ Amen. ~ Praise the Lord. 00:35:34.56\00:35:35.90 ~ Actually, maybe a little less than that. 00:35:35.93\00:35:37.27 But can I back up and talk just about this surgery center 00:35:37.67\00:35:41.30 and the role too, because there's something really 00:35:41.34\00:35:43.51 amazing that's happened here. 00:35:43.54\00:35:44.91 Twenty years ago we had the opportunity 00:35:45.51\00:35:47.94 to buy the empty piece of land right next to that property. 00:35:47.98\00:35:51.41 that you saw on the video. 00:35:51.45\00:35:52.78 It was $20,000. 00:35:52.85\00:35:54.55 I went home and raised the money came back 00:35:54.98\00:35:57.99 with the lawyers and cash in hand and the paperwork, 00:35:58.02\00:36:01.02 we were ready to do the deal, 00:36:01.06\00:36:02.42 and the guy raised the price by $5000. 00:36:02.62\00:36:05.79 It may as well have been $500,000. 00:36:06.29\00:36:08.96 We didn't have the money, you know. 00:36:09.00\00:36:10.50 And they literally walked away and left us standing there 00:36:10.67\00:36:15.57 because we didn't have the extra money. 00:36:15.60\00:36:17.84 You know, he changed the price. 00:36:17.87\00:36:19.51 Well, many years later someone bought that land 00:36:19.84\00:36:23.85 and built an 8000 square foot building 00:36:23.95\00:36:27.95 that he did kind of a government milk and vitamin 00:36:27.98\00:36:30.49 program in it for a few years. 00:36:30.52\00:36:31.99 When his contract was done, that building sat empty. 00:36:32.02\00:36:34.39 And so we raised money like crazy and bought the building. 00:36:34.86\00:36:38.66 Now it was significantly more than $20,000. 00:36:38.69\00:36:43.50 But here's how the Lord works. 00:36:43.83\00:36:45.33 If we had bought that way back, we would have filled up that 00:36:45.90\00:36:49.80 space with all kinds of little things. 00:36:49.84\00:36:51.74 Maybe some staff housing, 00:36:51.77\00:36:53.11 maybe some activity centers, all kinds of stuff. 00:36:53.14\00:36:55.68 We wouldn't have had that space. 00:36:55.71\00:36:57.05 But because somebody else bought it and built a building 00:36:57.41\00:37:00.08 that we would have never built 20 years ago. 00:37:00.12\00:37:02.38 God preserved that space, and we bought it 00:37:02.88\00:37:06.96 in the condition that we really needed it, 00:37:07.26\00:37:09.46 which was a massive building. 00:37:09.49\00:37:11.06 And something even more, we got all the permits 00:37:11.09\00:37:14.06 to build our surgery center, and in the eleventh hour 00:37:14.10\00:37:17.63 the minister of health came and said, 00:37:17.67\00:37:19.00 "Wait, what kind of surgeries are you going to do?" 00:37:19.03\00:37:21.24 We said, "We're going to do major surgeries." 00:37:21.30\00:37:22.84 And he said, "Oh, no, no, no. 00:37:22.87\00:37:24.21 Then you have to have a hospital." 00:37:24.24\00:37:25.57 Long story short, they changed the whole thing. 00:37:25.61\00:37:28.28 We has to send everything back to the drawing board. 00:37:28.31\00:37:30.55 The architects and engineers had to design a whole new building 00:37:30.58\00:37:34.05 that qualified as a hospital 00:37:34.42\00:37:36.48 even though we didn't want a hospital. 00:37:36.52\00:37:37.85 We wanted a surgery center, right? 00:37:37.89\00:37:39.22 They came to me and said, "Oh, bad news. 00:37:39.49\00:37:41.96 We don't have enough space." 00:37:42.39\00:37:43.79 The previous week the man on the other side of our 00:37:44.43\00:37:47.96 property came and said, "Hey, do you want to buy my land?" 00:37:48.00\00:37:50.80 I said, "We've been trying to buy your land for 20 years 00:37:51.20\00:37:53.90 and you wouldn't ever sell it." 00:37:53.94\00:37:55.27 And he said, "Well, I want to sell it." 00:37:55.30\00:37:56.91 So somebody had already sent a substantial amount of money 00:37:57.54\00:38:00.24 down toward the beginning of our surgery center, 00:38:00.28\00:38:02.21 the campaign, and I contacted him and I said, 00:38:02.68\00:38:05.05 "Hey, we've got an opportunity to buy this additional land. 00:38:05.08\00:38:07.22 What do you think?" And he said, "Man, that that money and do it. 00:38:07.25\00:38:09.28 Let's grab it while we can." 00:38:09.32\00:38:10.65 We bought that land. 00:38:10.92\00:38:12.29 And when those engineers and architects 00:38:12.32\00:38:14.06 came back to me and said, "Hey, we don't have space. 00:38:14.09\00:38:16.86 I said, "God provided the space before we knew we needed it." 00:38:16.89\00:38:23.20 And he said, "How is that?" I said, "We now own 00:38:23.60\00:38:25.50 all of this land over here." 00:38:25.53\00:38:26.90 And he said, "It's amazing. It's going to be beautiful." 00:38:26.94\00:38:29.00 So God preserved the land for 20 years, 00:38:29.04\00:38:31.34 then He gave us the extra space we needed because 00:38:31.54\00:38:34.04 He knew we needed a hospital and not a surgery center. 00:38:34.08\00:38:36.64 And some day we're going to understand why. 00:38:36.85\00:38:38.48 Before you ask, God will answer. Right? 00:38:38.51\00:38:41.65 What an encouraging testimony. 00:38:42.08\00:38:44.02 Well, you're listening to the voice of Paul Opp. 00:38:44.05\00:38:46.12 If you're listening on radio and you just came in, 00:38:46.15\00:38:48.42 you didn't hear the beginning, and tremendous, tremendous 00:38:48.46\00:38:51.79 miracle really, if you understand as Christians 00:38:51.99\00:38:56.67 that this is not, what do you call it, a coincidence. 00:38:56.70\00:39:02.60 It is not a coincidence. 00:39:02.64\00:39:04.04 God put everything in place at the right time that 00:39:04.07\00:39:06.88 this became available to you. 00:39:07.21\00:39:08.54 So praise the Lord. This hospital, it's amazing. 00:39:08.58\00:39:12.61 You know, one of the things that happens, 00:39:12.88\00:39:15.45 especially when people get things free, 00:39:15.48\00:39:17.55 is that they tell other people. 00:39:17.59\00:39:19.72 So when people found out that you were doing things for free, 00:39:20.02\00:39:23.53 even when you go to these events that you say 00:39:23.83\00:39:26.06 you just go to these open air places, word get out. 00:39:26.26\00:39:29.33 Do you see, like people just continuing to come 00:39:29.36\00:39:32.93 with these projects you do? 00:39:32.97\00:39:35.50 Well, that's the part that's kind of refreshing about 00:39:35.54\00:39:39.07 the medical work, in that, you know, it's pretty easy 00:39:39.11\00:39:41.98 to do an assessment to see if somebody really needs your help. 00:39:42.01\00:39:44.21 I mean, there are people in that culture, in that economy, 00:39:44.41\00:39:48.38 that will stand in line all day if they think they can 00:39:48.42\00:39:50.75 get a little bag of ibuprofen 00:39:50.79\00:39:53.25 because they can't afford to buy it. 00:39:53.29\00:39:54.99 And we don't just do the giveaways. 00:39:55.29\00:39:57.39 We don't, you know, we don't back up in the middle of a town 00:39:57.43\00:40:00.76 and open the tailgate and unload food and clothes 00:40:00.80\00:40:03.33 and all that kind of stuff. 00:40:03.37\00:40:04.70 That kind of in a lot of ways encourages bad behavior. 00:40:04.73\00:40:08.57 But that's the nice thing about the medical work 00:40:08.87\00:40:12.04 is that it's pretty easy to assess whether somebody 00:40:12.07\00:40:14.01 needs your help or not. 00:40:14.04\00:40:15.38 And like I said earlier, nobody fakes a surgery 00:40:15.41\00:40:17.81 to get your money. 00:40:17.85\00:40:19.18 So the word spreads, but when people come 00:40:19.28\00:40:24.45 it's generally with a very, very specific need. 00:40:24.49\00:40:30.03 And so we're happy to be able to accommodate them. 00:40:30.06\00:40:32.86 You know, there's a video again on the website 00:40:33.96\00:40:37.07 that talks about the surgery center brings hope. 00:40:37.10\00:40:39.30 Our cameraman and a volunteer just wondered around 00:40:39.67\00:40:43.30 for three weeks just talking to people, saying, you know, 00:40:43.34\00:40:45.51 what would it mean if you were able to get a surgery 00:40:45.54\00:40:47.71 for these crooked legs, or for this colostomy, 00:40:47.74\00:40:51.61 and for this, and that, and the other thing. 00:40:51.65\00:40:53.28 They got some amazing stories from people 00:40:53.58\00:40:57.59 who, you know, have lived their whole lives 00:40:57.79\00:41:00.06 with something that we can fix. 00:41:00.09\00:41:01.82 ~ Wow. ~ Amen. 00:41:01.86\00:41:03.19 What an opportunity! 00:41:03.22\00:41:04.56 Well, I believe we have some pictures. 00:41:04.59\00:41:06.43 And time is slipping away. 00:41:06.46\00:41:08.86 You're going to have to do a little bit of describing 00:41:08.90\00:41:10.90 to the radio people. 00:41:10.93\00:41:12.27 ~ Okay, sure. 00:41:12.30\00:41:13.64 Let's go with the first one. 00:41:13.67\00:41:15.00 This is just a picture of a typical group that comes. 00:41:17.04\00:41:20.48 This is actually Union College physician assistants group. 00:41:20.51\00:41:25.05 They've been to Iquitos, I think this will be 00:41:25.08\00:41:28.55 their 15th or 16th year coming. 00:41:28.58\00:41:31.89 There's Benji our dentist, the little boy that I met 00:41:32.19\00:41:34.96 when he was seven years old, now leading our 00:41:34.99\00:41:37.16 dental program. 00:41:37.49\00:41:39.23 These are some volunteer surgeons that came 00:41:40.30\00:41:43.26 that were working out of our first little clinic 00:41:43.30\00:41:45.43 where we've done about 100 surgeries in there. 00:41:45.47\00:41:47.37 But space was limited and, you know, we had to 00:41:47.40\00:41:51.34 makeshift all of the equipment 00:41:51.37\00:41:52.87 and kind of set it up just for that. 00:41:52.91\00:41:56.08 But now we'll have state of the art. 00:41:56.11\00:41:57.85 This is just an example of the slums outside the city. 00:41:58.18\00:42:02.98 The contaminated water, the little children barefoot. 00:42:03.79\00:42:06.76 There's a bunch of water filters that are being loaded up 00:42:07.29\00:42:11.39 into the back of our bus to take out for delivery. 00:42:11.43\00:42:13.56 We have an amazing water filtration program 00:42:13.60\00:42:15.96 for people that are living and drinking and cooking 00:42:16.50\00:42:20.04 with the unsanitary water in the tributaries. 00:42:20.07\00:42:23.74 There's our college student, Damaris, who's in charge of 00:42:23.94\00:42:28.51 our water filtration program doing instructional 00:42:28.54\00:42:31.31 time with a family for the proper use of the filter. 00:42:31.51\00:42:34.15 And she'll go back in two weeks, then she goes back 00:42:34.18\00:42:36.28 in eight weeks to make sure that those are being used properly. 00:42:36.32\00:42:38.92 Clean water saves thousands of people every year. 00:42:39.25\00:42:43.73 Infant mortality rate drops significantly in communities 00:42:43.76\00:42:46.96 where we provide clean water. 00:42:47.00\00:42:48.50 And that's an easy sponsorship program. 00:42:48.53\00:42:51.07 Sometimes people say, "Well, we'd like to do something 00:42:51.10\00:42:53.70 with our kids from church, 00:42:53.74\00:42:55.44 or kids from school, or as family group." 00:42:55.47\00:42:57.57 Something tangible that they can really kind of 00:42:57.61\00:42:59.67 see what they've done. "What can we do?" 00:42:59.87\00:43:01.51 Well, they can sponsor a water filter and know that 00:43:01.54\00:43:05.08 they are making a profound and significant difference 00:43:05.11\00:43:07.45 in somebody's life, both health-wise and economically. 00:43:07.48\00:43:10.25 Give us an idea, you mention sponsoring a water filter, 00:43:10.29\00:43:13.66 give us an idea of the cost involved in that. 00:43:14.06\00:43:16.32 $50. ~ $50. 00:43:16.36\00:43:18.49 And our people, Damaris, will go out, she identifies 00:43:18.53\00:43:23.30 the people in a community specifically, that need the 00:43:23.33\00:43:26.20 help. It opens doors. 00:43:26.63\00:43:28.07 We see all kinds of other needs when we get in there. 00:43:28.10\00:43:30.61 Sometimes unattended children that grandma can't afford 00:43:30.97\00:43:33.94 to send to school, sometimes medical needs, 00:43:33.98\00:43:36.04 sometimes emergency food distribution. 00:43:36.08\00:43:38.81 There's lots and lots of reasons to get in the home, 00:43:39.01\00:43:41.18 but the water filter is a great way to open that door. 00:43:41.22\00:43:43.62 But for $50 she takes that out there, educates the family 00:43:44.02\00:43:48.59 on its proper use and cleaning and it will last 00:43:48.62\00:43:52.16 for seven to eight years with proper use. 00:43:52.19\00:43:54.43 And we follow up in two weeks, we follow up at eight weeks, 00:43:54.63\00:43:57.33 just to make sure that everybody is still on the same page. 00:43:57.37\00:44:00.27 But it's a relationship builder. 00:44:00.94\00:44:03.20 ~ Yes. ~ That's right. 00:44:03.24\00:44:04.57 The follow-up as well. 00:44:04.61\00:44:06.01 You know, I keep thinking that the people that come 00:44:06.31\00:44:11.08 to get the service, or even just curiosity people, 00:44:11.11\00:44:13.98 ask the question, "Why are you doing this?" 00:44:14.62\00:44:18.15 Have you had that question asked? 00:44:18.52\00:44:20.76 ~ Many, many times. 00:44:20.79\00:44:22.12 And we tend to do our emergency food distribution 00:44:22.16\00:44:25.93 or our water filtrations in communities where we've also 00:44:25.96\00:44:29.76 done our free medical and dental clinics. 00:44:29.80\00:44:32.30 So we'll go out, we have portable dental units, 00:44:32.33\00:44:34.50 and when our medical teams come we go out, 00:44:34.54\00:44:36.67 like you saw in the video, and set up anywhere we can. 00:44:36.71\00:44:39.91 And you attend to those people's physical needs. 00:44:40.31\00:44:43.91 It's a little hard to sit in church and learn about 00:44:43.95\00:44:45.81 the love of Jesus when you have an abscess 00:44:45.85\00:44:47.58 on your jaw that's throbbing. 00:44:47.62\00:44:49.68 You know, if you've ever had a toothache. 00:44:49.88\00:44:51.45 I get the beginning of a toothache, 00:44:51.75\00:44:53.15 I'm straight away to the dentist, you know. 00:44:53.19\00:44:54.69 But there are people that have 00:44:54.72\00:44:56.06 never been to the dentist before. 00:44:56.09\00:44:57.43 So we go in there and meet those physical needs 00:44:57.46\00:45:00.00 and build those relationships, 00:45:00.30\00:45:03.06 and it's a natural thing, you know. 00:45:03.10\00:45:05.37 People say, "Do you require your kids to go to church?" 00:45:05.40\00:45:08.37 "Do you require your kids to do this?" 00:45:08.40\00:45:10.04 "Do you require your kids..." 00:45:10.07\00:45:11.41 And we have young people in our program 00:45:11.44\00:45:14.48 whose lives have been changed profoundly 00:45:14.51\00:45:18.15 because of the unconditional love that we give them 00:45:18.18\00:45:20.95 and meeting the physical needs and deficits 00:45:21.15\00:45:24.29 that they came to us with. 00:45:24.32\00:45:25.79 So it's all about relationships. 00:45:25.89\00:45:28.26 ~ Amen, amen. 00:45:28.29\00:45:29.62 Well I'd like to say to everyone that is watching 00:45:29.66\00:45:32.36 and those that are listening, make sure you have something 00:45:32.39\00:45:35.60 to write down information with that, we're going to 00:45:35.63\00:45:38.33 share in a moment. 00:45:38.37\00:45:39.70 And if you don't find something right away, 00:45:39.73\00:45:41.60 like I mentioned at other times, grab your phone, take a picture 00:45:41.64\00:45:45.47 of the screen if you can, and then you can copy it 00:45:45.51\00:45:49.54 later at your own leisure. 00:45:49.58\00:45:50.91 But we're going to put that information 00:45:50.95\00:45:52.28 on the screen very soon, so get ready. 00:45:52.31\00:45:54.45 And for those listening on radio, if you can record it, 00:45:54.48\00:45:56.92 you can even record it with your phone, 00:45:56.95\00:45:58.42 the information, the audio, then you can of course 00:45:58.62\00:46:01.92 listen and stop and write it down. 00:46:01.96\00:46:04.39 And if you can't catch everything, just give 3ABN 00:46:04.79\00:46:07.03 a call and we'll give you that information 00:46:07.06\00:46:08.76 so that you can have the information 00:46:08.96\00:46:10.47 to help in this project. 00:46:10.50\00:46:11.90 Send them a love gift, sponsor a water filter. 00:46:13.10\00:46:15.50 But this project of the hospital that's going to provide 00:46:15.90\00:46:18.67 free service, it's an immediate need. 00:46:18.71\00:46:21.78 When do you hope to see this hospital 00:46:21.81\00:46:24.88 up and running, let's say? 00:46:24.91\00:46:26.51 This year I've raised, or we've raised 00:46:27.18\00:46:30.35 three quarters of a million dollars. 00:46:30.55\00:46:32.15 And we need about another half a million 00:46:32.19\00:46:34.66 to make this thing happen. 00:46:34.69\00:46:36.02 All the permissions are in place, 00:46:36.52\00:46:39.09 all the signatures are on the paper, 00:46:39.13\00:46:40.93 the engineers and architects have done their work. 00:46:41.33\00:46:44.27 We are literally waiting for the dollars to come in. 00:46:44.30\00:46:47.50 And what's unique about this, as opposed to some other projects, 00:46:47.80\00:46:50.94 is that it's big enough that when we contract 00:46:50.97\00:46:54.28 with the construction company to do it, 00:46:54.31\00:46:56.31 we can't stop for running out of money part way through. 00:46:56.64\00:47:00.48 You know, we have to have it all in hand. 00:47:00.52\00:47:02.42 Whereas, when we're building our dormitories 00:47:02.45\00:47:04.29 and other buildings on campus, you know, if you 00:47:04.32\00:47:06.42 go part way and you need to stop and raise 00:47:06.45\00:47:08.89 a little more money, you can. 00:47:08.92\00:47:10.26 In this case, no. 00:47:10.29\00:47:11.63 So we have to have it all in hand before we can start. 00:47:11.66\00:47:14.06 But everything is ready. 00:47:14.30\00:47:15.76 I mean, you know, the table is set. 00:47:15.80\00:47:18.33 We're waiting for the meal. 00:47:18.63\00:47:20.50 And there are people that are so excited 00:47:20.74\00:47:23.41 because they know their lives are going to change 00:47:23.44\00:47:24.94 when we can fix... 00:47:24.97\00:47:27.28 We're going to do a lot of orthopedics. 00:47:27.31\00:47:28.88 These little kids with clubfoot and the cleft palate 00:47:28.91\00:47:32.31 and all of these things that are really significant. 00:47:32.35\00:47:34.75 Life changing, you know. 00:47:35.15\00:47:37.12 And we're just excited to be able to start that. 00:47:37.15\00:47:38.75 So as soon as we have everything we need to 00:47:38.79\00:47:42.62 pull the trigger, that renovation of that big building 00:47:42.66\00:47:45.89 will start and we'll be well on our way. 00:47:45.93\00:47:48.63 ~ Exciting.
