And we're not just sitting across the table 00:01:22.44\00:01:25.81 from each other but we're doing this via Skype. 00:01:26.01\00:01:27.68 And so his name is Joakim Hjortland. 00:01:28.68\00:01:33.29 Would you pronounce that the way it should be Joakim? 00:01:33.49\00:01:37.96 That's right. Joakim Hjortland. 00:01:38.16\00:01:40.66 OK. If it's all right with you 00:01:41.43\00:01:43.50 I'm going to call you Joakim. 00:01:43.70\00:01:45.53 That's fine. Our basic... our basic topic this evening 00:01:45.93\00:01:51.27 is What If There's More? 00:01:51.47\00:01:53.58 And what we'll be doing - that's a book that Joakim 00:01:54.14\00:01:57.05 wrote, and we'll be discovering a life of radical purpose. 00:01:57.25\00:02:00.78 Is that correct? 00:02:00.98\00:02:02.32 I know that I'm excited so we're going to kick it off 00:02:03.02\00:02:06.29 here just in a few minutes 00:02:06.49\00:02:07.82 and learn a little bit more about who he is and how... 00:02:08.12\00:02:12.43 what the difference is that he's made in people's lives. 00:02:12.63\00:02:15.93 He is the director of AFCOE Europe. 00:02:16.33\00:02:18.70 He is also the president of ASI Scandinavia. 00:02:18.90\00:02:22.07 And he's also the author of What If There's More? 00:02:22.47\00:02:26.47 But before we start here 00:02:26.68\00:02:28.44 Joakim, everybody likes music. 00:02:28.64\00:02:31.21 And so we have the pleasure of having Layke Jones, 00:02:31.61\00:02:35.28 and he's going to be able to sing for us 00:02:35.48\00:02:37.65 That Sounds Like Home To Me. 00:02:37.85\00:02:40.22 Somewhere just across 00:02:52.43\00:02:56.40 the Jordan River 00:02:56.60\00:03:00.84 there's a place 00:03:01.48\00:03:03.85 of everlasting 00:03:04.05\00:03:06.61 joy and peace 00:03:06.82\00:03:11.52 where the stream of life 00:03:12.32\00:03:15.32 is flowing there forever 00:03:15.52\00:03:21.10 and the crown of life 00:03:22.03\00:03:25.70 is waiting there for me. 00:03:25.90\00:03:31.37 That sounds like home to me! 00:03:31.77\00:03:36.51 Right, where I want to be. 00:03:36.91\00:03:41.88 There'll be no tears 00:03:42.28\00:03:46.15 to fill our eyes again. 00:03:46.35\00:03:52.33 The hills will echo 00:03:53.33\00:03:56.00 with the story 00:03:56.20\00:03:58.67 as we sing 00:03:58.87\00:04:00.87 of His grace and glory. 00:04:01.07\00:04:03.71 Where the saints of God will be: 00:04:03.91\00:04:09.28 that sounds like home 00:04:09.68\00:04:13.52 to me. 00:04:13.92\00:04:17.92 They say there's only joy 00:04:23.32\00:04:28.53 inside that city. 00:04:28.73\00:04:34.20 A crystal river flowing by 00:04:34.64\00:04:40.11 the Tree of Life. 00:04:40.31\00:04:45.95 No pain 00:04:46.15\00:04:48.85 or disappointment there 00:04:49.05\00:04:53.76 will hurt us 00:04:53.96\00:04:57.73 for Jesus Christ 00:04:58.46\00:05:02.16 Himself will be the light. 00:05:02.36\00:05:08.30 That sounds like 00:05:09.40\00:05:11.77 home to me! 00:05:11.97\00:05:15.11 Right, where I want to be. 00:05:15.31\00:05:20.52 There'll be no tears 00:05:20.92\00:05:24.92 to fill our eyes again. 00:05:25.32\00:05:31.26 The hills will echo 00:05:32.69\00:05:35.26 with the story 00:05:35.56\00:05:38.23 as we sing of His grace and glory. 00:05:38.43\00:05:43.54 Where the saints of God will be: 00:05:43.74\00:05:49.64 that sounds like home 00:05:49.94\00:05:53.58 to me... 00:05:53.78\00:05:56.95 the hills will echo 00:05:57.59\00:06:00.22 with the story 00:06:00.42\00:06:03.26 as we sing of 00:06:03.46\00:06:05.43 of His grace and glory. 00:06:05.63\00:06:11.60 Where the saints of God 00:06:13.37\00:06:17.84 will be: 00:06:18.04\00:06:20.28 that sounds like home 00:06:20.48\00:06:25.05 to me. 00:06:25.68\00:06:31.62 Thank you, Layke. That was absolutely fantastic! 00:06:40.40\00:06:43.10 I love the way that you connect... 00:06:43.30\00:06:44.97 connect with our hearts. 00:06:45.17\00:06:47.74 But right now I'm with my friend Joakim. 00:06:47.94\00:06:49.97 Joakim is in Sweden. 00:06:50.17\00:06:52.41 And Joakim has a wonderful story 00:06:52.61\00:06:58.48 to tell and share with you about where he came from 00:06:58.88\00:07:02.58 and where he's on his journey to. 00:07:02.78\00:07:05.89 If you will just take a little bit of time 00:07:06.09\00:07:08.16 and kind of share with our audience a little bit about 00:07:08.36\00:07:10.39 your background and how you became a Christian, Joakim. 00:07:10.59\00:07:15.00 Thank you, J.D. It's a joy to be here. 00:07:16.03\00:07:17.90 I'm excited to share a little 00:07:18.10\00:07:19.43 bit about how God has been working in my life. 00:07:19.47\00:07:21.47 First of all, I thought I would like to share 00:07:21.87\00:07:23.57 a little story that kind of 00:07:23.77\00:07:25.34 introduces the topic as we're getting to my story. 00:07:25.54\00:07:27.61 I read a thought-provoking 00:07:27.84\00:07:30.35 log post from Melody Mason 00:07:30.55\00:07:32.31 some years ago that I will never forget. 00:07:32.51\00:07:33.85 She shared from when she was serving as a missionary 00:07:33.92\00:07:36.58 in Bangladesh. And she went shopping 00:07:36.79\00:07:39.72 and she had some kids with her from a very poor neighborhood. 00:07:39.92\00:07:42.96 And she told these kids as they went to the store 00:07:43.36\00:07:45.73 she told them they could pick whatever they wanted 00:07:45.93\00:07:48.76 and she would pay it for them. 00:07:48.96\00:07:50.67 So at first, they didn't want to take anything 00:07:51.07\00:07:53.57 extra in addition to what she already was buying them. 00:07:53.77\00:07:56.40 But as she insisted 00:07:56.60\00:07:58.44 eventually they added some clothes, 00:07:58.64\00:08:01.48 some sweets, and some peanuts. 00:08:01.68\00:08:03.81 And as she was reflecting on this experience 00:08:04.01\00:08:07.18 she wrote the following in her blog post. She said: 00:08:07.38\00:08:08.95 "The Creator of the universe 00:08:09.15\00:08:11.75 and vast galaxies is asking 00:08:11.95\00:08:15.92 'Is there anything more you'd like Me to do? 00:08:16.12\00:08:18.69 Anything more you need? ' 00:08:18.89\00:08:20.93 He says: 'Just ask... I can do anything! ' 00:08:21.33\00:08:24.60 And yet our requests are so small. He wants to give us 00:08:24.80\00:08:29.14 the world and so much more. 00:08:29.34\00:08:30.74 But what do we usually ask for? The equivalent of a bag 00:08:30.94\00:08:35.84 of peanuts. All I can say 00:08:36.04\00:08:40.52 is: 'Lord, increase our faith. ' " 00:08:40.72\00:08:44.52 And I believe there is a power- ful lesson here for all of us. 00:08:45.59\00:08:49.26 Many times in our Christian life and experiences 00:08:49.46\00:08:52.26 we settle for peanuts in our personal devotional life. 00:08:52.46\00:08:56.77 In our Bible study; in our prayer life. 00:08:56.97\00:08:59.10 We settle for peanuts. Many times in our ministry 00:08:59.30\00:09:01.50 and our service for God we don't aim higher than peanuts. 00:09:01.70\00:09:06.68 We settle for something much less than what God 00:09:06.88\00:09:09.61 has in store for us while His thoughts are much higher 00:09:09.81\00:09:13.11 than our thoughts as He says; His ways 00:09:13.31\00:09:14.82 are much higher than our ways. 00:09:15.02\00:09:16.35 And I can say certainly my background 00:09:16.38\00:09:18.25 I was definitely settling for much less in my Christian life 00:09:18.45\00:09:22.12 and experience than what God had in store for me. 00:09:22.32\00:09:25.26 So I am from Scandinavia. I'm from Sweden and Norway. 00:09:25.46\00:09:28.83 And I grew up... actually, there is a picture 00:09:29.03\00:09:31.30 you can see here from my family. 00:09:31.50\00:09:33.67 I am actually... I'm a sixth-generation Adventist. 00:09:33.87\00:09:37.24 We are five siblings as you can see here on the picture 00:09:37.44\00:09:41.51 probably. And I am #3 of 5 siblings. 00:09:41.71\00:09:46.31 And grew up in a good Adventist family, 00:09:46.51\00:09:49.62 good Adventist home. 00:09:49.82\00:09:51.15 And you know, growing up I learned 00:09:51.19\00:09:55.86 a lot about our faith. I knew a lot about the Bible 00:09:56.06\00:10:00.30 stories and I believed in all these things. 00:10:00.50\00:10:03.67 I went to church every week pretty much before I could walk. 00:10:03.87\00:10:06.30 I had a lot of knowledge; I believed it was true 00:10:06.50\00:10:09.40 but I would say I wasn't a Christian. 00:10:09.60\00:10:12.54 Actually when I was 16 years old 00:10:12.74\00:10:14.84 you know I used to be ashamed of my faith. 00:10:15.04\00:10:18.91 I used to think Christianity, going to church and these kind 00:10:19.11\00:10:21.92 of things is somewhat boring, you know? 00:10:22.12\00:10:24.69 But now I think it's a beautiful thing. 00:10:24.89\00:10:26.86 It's a blessed thing; it's the best way to live 00:10:27.06\00:10:29.22 to follow Christ. I used to be ashamed of my faith - 00:10:29.42\00:10:32.13 I didn't want anyone to know - but God transformed me 00:10:32.33\00:10:34.83 into an active witness for Him. 00:10:35.03\00:10:36.97 I used to be embarrassed of my faith 00:10:37.17\00:10:40.04 but now I am excited and eager to share with anyone I can. 00:10:40.24\00:10:44.57 And God worked a lot to bring that about. 00:10:44.77\00:10:49.28 You know, someone said: "God doesn't have grandchildren... 00:10:49.48\00:10:53.45 He only has children. " 00:10:53.85\00:10:55.82 And it's definitely true. 00:10:56.02\00:10:59.42 You know, Jesus talked about how we need to be born again. 00:10:59.62\00:11:01.66 No one is born again the first time. 00:11:02.06\00:11:03.59 You are born in a Christian home - 00:11:03.79\00:11:05.49 in an Adventist home - but no one is born a Christian. 00:11:05.69\00:11:08.53 Putting it another way 00:11:08.73\00:11:11.07 going to church doesn't make you a Christian 00:11:11.27\00:11:14.27 more than standing in a garage makes you a car. 00:11:14.47\00:11:17.94 And it can help you; it's a good thing to go to church. 00:11:18.74\00:11:22.18 It's a lot of benefits. I'm very glad for 00:11:22.38\00:11:24.98 everything I got from my upbringing. 00:11:25.18\00:11:26.85 But my life changed drastically. 00:11:27.05\00:11:28.88 My Christian experience changed drastically 00:11:29.08\00:11:31.85 when I was 15, 16, 17 years old. 00:11:32.05\00:11:35.19 Three key components that changed my Christian life 00:11:35.39\00:11:38.86 and my life in general was #1 personal devotions; 00:11:39.06\00:11:43.20 #2 full surrender; and #3 getting involved in God's work. 00:11:44.17\00:11:47.94 When it comes to personal devotions, you know 00:11:48.14\00:11:50.14 I believed in the Bible. I brought the Bible to church 00:11:50.34\00:11:52.47 but I didn't really read it so much. 00:11:52.67\00:11:54.08 But when I was 15 00:11:54.48\00:11:56.14 I started to spend time in the Word. 00:11:56.34\00:11:57.75 I actually read the Bible through in a year. 00:11:57.95\00:11:59.81 Every day I started to spend a little bit of time in the Word 00:12:00.02\00:12:03.05 and then more and more time. I thought before that the Bible 00:12:03.25\00:12:05.82 is boring. You know, this is a boring book. 00:12:06.02\00:12:07.56 It's hard to understand. But I started to realize 00:12:07.76\00:12:09.66 "Hey, when you think about this this book is a message 00:12:09.86\00:12:13.50 from the King and Creator of the universe. " 00:12:13.70\00:12:15.26 Like you would receive 00:12:15.46\00:12:17.63 a letter from the president of your country 00:12:17.83\00:12:19.93 or the king of your country, 00:12:20.14\00:12:21.47 prime minister of your country. Would you want to read it? 00:12:21.50\00:12:23.81 It would be hard to believe it was true probably. 00:12:24.01\00:12:26.07 But if you are convinced this is truly it 00:12:26.27\00:12:28.91 you would be curious. Whether you liked the president or not 00:12:29.11\00:12:32.65 you would be curious: "What does it say? " 00:12:32.85\00:12:34.68 "What does he want to tell you? " 00:12:34.88\00:12:36.22 And when I started to realize: "Hey, this book 00:12:36.45\00:12:38.69 is an amazing book. This tells us how to best live life. " 00:12:38.89\00:12:41.79 I like the acronym BIBLE: Bible stands for 00:12:41.99\00:12:44.66 basic instruction before leaving earth. 00:12:44.86\00:12:46.56 So anyway, as I spent time in the Word 00:12:46.80\00:12:48.76 and daily seeking God my faith started to come alive. 00:12:48.96\00:12:53.44 You know it says in John chapter 17 verse 3 00:12:53.64\00:12:56.54 "This is eternal life: that they may know You 00:12:56.74\00:12:59.04 the only true God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. " 00:12:59.24\00:13:01.88 True Christianity - true religion - 00:13:02.08\00:13:05.28 is not so much about knowledge 00:13:05.48\00:13:07.72 as about knowing. 00:13:07.92\00:13:09.55 It's not so much about religious rites and sermons 00:13:09.75\00:13:12.82 as it is about a real relationship with our God. 00:13:13.02\00:13:16.89 And that's what I started to cultivate when I was 15, 00:13:17.09\00:13:19.69 16, and 17 years old. 00:13:19.89\00:13:21.23 And then Christianity went from boring to exciting 00:13:21.26\00:13:25.43 and to meaningful. And so that's the beginning basically. 00:13:25.63\00:13:28.90 When I got into the Word I started to study Bible prophecy 00:13:29.10\00:13:32.01 also. Started to say: "Wow! This book is trustworthy! " 00:13:32.21\00:13:35.28 And we have good reasons to believe, and it's very relevant 00:13:35.48\00:13:38.71 in our time. It's talking about our time! 00:13:38.91\00:13:40.68 It's talking about what happens as we go forward. 00:13:40.88\00:13:43.79 Very useful information! 00:13:43.99\00:13:45.32 If you don't know those things you need to check it out. 00:13:45.39\00:13:47.02 Amen! Now were you involved in sports at all? 00:13:47.22\00:13:51.23 Or did you just spend all day long 00:13:51.43\00:13:54.13 going around with different friends and studying the Bible 00:13:54.33\00:13:57.53 together? What else was in your life? 00:13:57.73\00:14:01.50 Was there any competition 00:14:01.70\00:14:03.10 between you and other activities in your life? 00:14:04.77\00:14:09.04 Yes, good question. I was into a lot of sports. 00:14:10.38\00:14:13.55 All kinds of sports actually from snowboarding to 00:14:13.75\00:14:16.52 cross-country skiing to running 00:14:16.72\00:14:18.05 to tennis to volleyball. 00:14:18.22\00:14:20.29 The main thing, though, was soccer. 00:14:20.49\00:14:22.32 It was the big... it was the purpose of my life 00:14:26.26\00:14:30.30 for many many years. My dream since I was 6 00:14:30.50\00:14:33.17 was to become a professional soccer player. 00:14:33.37\00:14:35.57 And I spent a lot of time in that. It was my big game 00:14:35.77\00:14:38.67 and big focus... so much time. 00:14:38.87\00:14:40.91 And I was good at it! I did well. 00:14:41.11\00:14:42.54 But God drastically changed the direction of my life 00:14:42.74\00:14:47.02 when I was 17 years old. 00:14:47.22\00:14:49.02 And so gradually He started to get involved in my life 00:14:49.22\00:14:51.29 and I started to prioritize differently. 00:14:51.49\00:14:53.99 And it's a long story. I don't know if I can share 00:14:54.19\00:14:57.73 so much of it, but it was certainly a crossroad in my life 00:14:57.93\00:15:02.33 as God "came to me. " 00:15:02.53\00:15:03.87 So I understand that there was a Week of Prayer 00:15:04.07\00:15:07.84 in there someplace. There had to be a place 00:15:08.04\00:15:10.84 where you just totally sold out to Jesus. 00:15:11.04\00:15:13.27 Yes... yeah. The Week of Prayer. I can share a little bit about 00:15:14.68\00:15:18.45 that. That was certainly one of the most life-changing 00:15:18.65\00:15:21.45 experiences and weeks of my life. 00:15:21.65\00:15:24.32 There is a picture from the school. 00:15:24.52\00:15:26.96 I was studying at the Adventist Junior College. 00:15:27.16\00:15:29.92 When I was 16 years old this Week of Prayer took place. 00:15:30.13\00:15:33.19 I lived in the dorm there. 00:15:33.40\00:15:34.90 And we had a preacher... a Week of Prayer preacher 00:15:35.30\00:15:38.77 coming from South America. A missionary from South America. 00:15:38.97\00:15:41.00 He came there and he was preaching powerful messages. 00:15:41.40\00:15:44.71 He was sharing stories about answered prayers, 00:15:44.91\00:15:48.44 angelic protection, and powerful divine appointments, 00:15:48.64\00:15:53.42 powerful miracles. And to me, it's like: "Whoa! 00:15:53.62\00:15:55.98 This kind of sounds like it could be taken straight from 00:15:56.18\00:15:58.62 the book of Acts. " You know, I hadn't really 00:15:58.82\00:16:00.46 quite heard anything like it. 00:16:00.66\00:16:02.46 So the young people there... we were touched. 00:16:02.66\00:16:04.66 We were like: "Wow! This is cool! " 00:16:04.86\00:16:06.80 The preacher made appeals to seek God first in our lives. 00:16:07.00\00:16:10.50 To surrender everything to Him. 00:16:10.70\00:16:12.33 To join the Lord's army... to work for God. 00:16:12.53\00:16:15.40 And we were responding... many of us. 00:16:15.60\00:16:17.87 I certainly did. And we were excited. We were like... 00:16:18.07\00:16:20.21 We were saying with Isaiah: "God, here am I. Send me. 00:16:20.41\00:16:23.85 Send me. " And we wanted to get involved. 00:16:24.05\00:16:25.95 And the most powerful part of that week was Sabbath. 00:16:26.15\00:16:29.78 Actually... in my opinion, anyway. 00:16:29.98\00:16:31.82 Sabbath morning for the divine service it was the most 00:16:32.02\00:16:34.82 powerful meeting I've been too, probably. 00:16:35.02\00:16:37.19 I've never felt the Holy Spirit so strongly impress something 00:16:37.39\00:16:40.36 onto me. There was an atheist from my class sitting there 00:16:40.56\00:16:43.77 on the way to freedom. 00:16:44.27\00:16:45.60 There were two non-Christians from my class 00:16:45.77\00:16:47.74 standing up sharing how God has been working 00:16:47.94\00:16:50.61 in their life that week. How they have given their life 00:16:50.81\00:16:52.61 to God. One of them decided to be baptized. 00:16:52.81\00:16:55.14 They were sharing how there was a suicidal person 00:16:55.34\00:16:58.35 I never met that came driving over there to the school 00:16:58.55\00:17:02.28 to get help. And after the meeting 00:17:02.48\00:17:06.39 I don't think there was any dry eye. 00:17:06.59\00:17:08.86 God really worked. And one thing: they shared 00:17:09.06\00:17:10.83 this testimony what happened during the week. 00:17:11.03\00:17:13.46 The preacher challenged a few of the students to get rid of 00:17:14.13\00:17:17.43 things from their lives that were not positive 00:17:17.63\00:17:20.50 for their Christianity. We live in a great controversy. 00:17:20.70\00:17:24.44 So they started to get rid of you know heavy metal music 00:17:24.64\00:17:27.61 and death symbols and things like this. 00:17:27.81\00:17:29.51 And as they were getting rid of their last items - 00:17:29.71\00:17:33.35 they were trashing CDs, in the time we used typical CDs. 00:17:33.55\00:17:36.72 Everything's on the hard drive. And as the last item was 00:17:36.92\00:17:40.82 removed from one of those young people that did that - 00:17:41.02\00:17:45.86 an atheist - she felt this... literally this electric power 00:17:46.06\00:17:48.90 go all the way through her body 00:17:49.10\00:17:51.43 all the way out through the toes 00:17:51.63\00:17:53.03 and in amazement and we see it in her eyes 00:17:53.23\00:17:55.60 she realized that she had been healed 00:17:55.80\00:17:58.71 from the agonizing chronic back pain that she had been suffering 00:17:58.91\00:18:03.14 for more than four months or closer to eight. Um-hmm. 00:18:03.35\00:18:05.25 She had been healed! It's an amazing story. 00:18:05.45\00:18:07.88 If I wouldn't have been there sometimes it's kind of hard to 00:18:08.08\00:18:09.62 believe this kind of thing. But... So they shared this story 00:18:09.82\00:18:12.75 also during the divine service. And the preacher, he builds on 00:18:12.95\00:18:15.69 the momentum and he has this garbage bin right below 00:18:15.89\00:18:18.73 the pulpit in the church there on Sabbath morning 00:18:18.93\00:18:21.20 and he made an appeal to the students to go to their rooms 00:18:21.40\00:18:24.13 and pick up things that are not positive for a Christian life - 00:18:24.33\00:18:28.87 movies, music, books... things like this - 00:18:29.07\00:18:31.57 of course, there are good things like that as well 00:18:31.77\00:18:33.68 but they came. Many of us... we went. 00:18:33.88\00:18:36.21 We took things; we surrendered fully to God. 00:18:36.41\00:18:39.41 We wanted to be all in for God. 00:18:39.61\00:18:41.72 We wanted to serve Him; we wanted to be in the Lord's army. 00:18:41.92\00:18:44.55 And to me, that's when I really started to get involved 00:18:44.75\00:18:48.36 in serving God and in going to mission trips. 00:18:48.56\00:18:51.73 And it was certainly a turning point of my life 00:18:51.93\00:18:54.83 for which I am eternally grateful. 00:18:55.03\00:18:56.46 And it was the biggest revival for that school for decades. 00:18:56.67\00:18:59.83 So people actually they went to their rooms 00:19:00.87\00:19:05.14 and brought out stuff that they shouldn't have in their rooms 00:19:05.34\00:19:08.81 and actually brought it out and tossed it in the can? 00:19:09.01\00:19:11.61 And during that time the Lord even worked more severe 00:19:12.65\00:19:15.98 in their life. And so you've got a full classroom 00:19:16.18\00:19:20.76 now full of people that have been transformed. 00:19:20.96\00:19:23.43 How are those people doing today? 00:19:25.86\00:19:27.60 I mean, did some people backslide? 00:19:28.00\00:19:30.20 Or are most of them still, sold out to Jesus? 00:19:30.40\00:19:35.34 Yes, there is a mix. You know Satan is always trying to 00:19:36.30\00:19:39.41 destroy that kind of momentum and some people were pretty... 00:19:39.61\00:19:42.14 they didn't have so strong foundation. 00:19:42.54\00:19:44.31 But some of us are certainly we have been going strong 00:19:44.51\00:19:47.48 ever since by God's grace. Amen! 00:19:47.68\00:19:50.95 Now there's the IMPACT Program. 00:19:51.65\00:19:54.42 Yes. Exactly what is the IMPACT Program? 00:19:55.79\00:19:59.26 It is a ministry I've been involved with a lot. 00:20:00.53\00:20:04.17 And it's a very exciting ministry. 00:20:04.33\00:20:08.20 The main thing we do is to organize mission trips. 00:20:08.40\00:20:10.21 IMPACT stands for inspiring members to proclaim the 00:20:10.57\00:20:14.41 advent of Christ together. 00:20:14.61\00:20:16.34 OK. IMPACT for Christ... that's what we want to do. 00:20:16.54\00:20:18.81 And so here you can see some pictures. 00:20:19.01\00:20:21.88 Very short. This is how it started. 00:20:22.08\00:20:24.45 It started with... We were a group of young people - 00:20:24.65\00:20:26.25 inexperienced young people - most of us under 20. 00:20:26.45\00:20:28.72 I was 17 at the time. And we teamed up with 00:20:28.92\00:20:31.83 Matheson Mission School. So we have this group of 00:20:32.03\00:20:34.93 young people that was inspired by this powerful preaching 00:20:35.13\00:20:38.87 we heard and then you have Matheson Mission School 00:20:39.07\00:20:42.04 and then there was a helicopter crash. 00:20:42.24\00:20:43.97 You can actually see the picture here of the helicopter. 00:20:44.31\00:20:45.97 It's quite an interesting story. 00:20:46.17\00:20:47.51 There was a SDA pastor in Norway 00:20:47.68\00:20:50.15 that had this helicopter. 00:20:50.35\00:20:51.88 It helped him a lot. You know, you have fjords, 00:20:52.08\00:20:53.92 the mountains, the ferry crossings. 00:20:54.12\00:20:55.98 He saved a lot of time in his work when he could use... 00:20:56.18\00:20:58.99 utilize this helicopter in his ministry. 00:20:59.19\00:21:01.02 But then one day he crashed. 00:21:01.22\00:21:03.69 He had to crash land. 00:21:03.89\00:21:05.49 And you know, it's bad enough to crash with a car 00:21:05.69\00:21:08.33 as you can imagine, but you certainly don't want to crash 00:21:08.53\00:21:11.60 with a helicopter. But by God's grace 00:21:11.80\00:21:13.84 he was uninjured. He wasn't injured. He wasn't 00:21:14.04\00:21:17.81 except for a cut in his forehead from the Plexiglas. 00:21:18.01\00:21:21.14 And even though Norway and Sweden are pretty secular 00:21:21.34\00:21:24.88 countries, but even the secular media, the biggest newspapers 00:21:25.08\00:21:28.62 biggest TV channels in Norway 00:21:28.82\00:21:31.09 talked about this Adventist pastor that "fell from heaven. " 00:21:31.29\00:21:34.86 This Adventist pastor that had engine protection. 00:21:35.06\00:21:38.76 But he was wondering when this happened... He was like: 00:21:38.96\00:21:41.53 "Man! God, why did You give me this tool and You have to 00:21:41.73\00:21:44.53 take it away from me? What do You want me to do now? " 00:21:44.73\00:21:47.34 He prayed like: "God: why is this happening? " 00:21:47.54\00:21:50.04 But then he felt that God answered him 00:21:50.24\00:21:52.84 by directing his thoughts to this powerful quote 00:21:53.04\00:21:56.38 from the book of Education 271. 00:21:56.58\00:21:59.21 It says this: 00:21:59.41\00:22:00.75 How soon might the end come? The end of suffering and sorrow 00:22:12.79\00:22:16.00 and sin? So anyway, because of that 00:22:16.20\00:22:19.53 we got involved. We teamed up with him 00:22:19.73\00:22:21.30 and with Matheson Mission School and we started to organize 00:22:21.50\00:22:23.91 this. In the beginning, it was three-week-long mission trips 00:22:24.11\00:22:26.47 in Norway we called IMPACT Norway. 00:22:26.68\00:22:29.14 And here you see a group picture from one of our first mission 00:22:29.34\00:22:32.28 trips. You know, first, we were like 20 people. 00:22:32.48\00:22:35.25 One summer there were about 40 then 60 then more than 100. 00:22:35.45\00:22:38.25 Basically every year we were growing. 00:22:38.45\00:22:40.46 And that's a pretty big number in Norway. 00:22:40.66\00:22:42.52 We don't have a lot of members here. 00:22:42.72\00:22:44.79 And then other people got inspired. 00:22:44.99\00:22:46.39 So also in Sweden, as you see here the group from Sweden, 00:22:46.59\00:22:50.07 they got inspired and like: "Hey, we should do this 00:22:50.27\00:22:51.80 in Sweden too! " You know, the mission trips. 00:22:52.00\00:22:53.74 And people got experiences. They got answered prayers 00:22:53.94\00:22:55.87 and they had experiences with God 00:22:56.07\00:22:59.64 that they had never had before. So they started up in Sweden: 00:22:59.84\00:23:02.74 IMPACT Sweden. 00:23:02.94\00:23:04.28 And we can ask to see a few pictures here. 00:23:04.31\00:23:06.68 They started in Sweden and then also after that in Latvia: 00:23:06.88\00:23:11.15 IMPACT Latvia. Then in Denmark, in Romania, 00:23:11.35\00:23:15.06 Austria, and Netherlands, Germany, Spain. In total 00:23:15.26\00:23:20.43 it spread to 10 different countries. 00:23:20.63\00:23:22.56 We never imagined when we started 00:23:22.76\00:23:24.63 that... what God would do: the ripple effect of this ministry. 00:23:24.83\00:23:28.24 But more and more people are involved in these events. 00:23:28.44\00:23:30.31 Hundreds of people have been coming. 00:23:30.51\00:23:32.37 Many people have made decisions to be baptized; 00:23:32.57\00:23:35.78 to go to mission schools; to surrender their lives to God's 00:23:35.98\00:23:39.41 service. And it's been such a blessing 00:23:39.61\00:23:41.88 and joy to be a part of this ministry and to see how God 00:23:42.08\00:23:45.72 has worked. And actually you have some pictures here 00:23:45.92\00:23:49.39 of the bus. I don't know if we can see that here? 00:23:49.59\00:23:53.63 This is the bus we use when we're driving to the very north 00:23:53.83\00:23:58.40 of Norway. It's a long ways. 00:23:58.60\00:24:00.17 This is what we call a prophecy bus. 00:24:00.37\00:24:02.04 You can see a little bit closer I think in the next picture. 00:24:02.24\00:24:05.04 It's pictures from Daniel and Revelation. 00:24:05.24\00:24:07.74 Daniel 2 on the back of the bus. 00:24:07.94\00:24:09.94 Advertisement for Bible correspondence course. 00:24:10.15\00:24:12.61 Quite some interesting stories. As we're driving through 00:24:12.81\00:24:14.72 the country and all these young people with the same color 00:24:14.92\00:24:17.39 T-shirts in small towns or maybe just across Norway 00:24:17.59\00:24:20.26 people notice this bus. And one time someone was driving 00:24:20.46\00:24:23.63 behind the bus and was reading what it said there. 00:24:23.83\00:24:26.36 I don't know if the bus driver forgot that they were there 00:24:26.56\00:24:28.76 or exactly what happened, but someone he was slowing down. 00:24:28.96\00:24:32.03 And when he was slowing down the car behind 00:24:32.23\00:24:35.54 smashed the bus from the back 00:24:35.74\00:24:37.87 and the glass of the back of the bus broke actually. 00:24:38.07\00:24:41.58 But if he got to know the Bible guess it was worth it. 00:24:41.78\00:24:46.48 And here you see another picture of some trials we had. 00:24:47.72\00:24:51.69 We had a lot of trials also. 00:24:51.89\00:24:53.29 Always when you serve God there will be some trials. 00:24:53.49\00:24:56.02 And this is the second bus we got. 00:24:56.22\00:24:58.79 It's a double-decker. As the group grew we had to get 00:24:58.99\00:25:01.56 more and more busses involved. 00:25:01.76\00:25:03.20 And this particular year so many... actually several busses 00:25:03.40\00:25:07.14 broke down. Some people came to pick us up 00:25:07.34\00:25:09.04 and that bus broke down. It was amazing. 00:25:09.24\00:25:11.11 It was like you could almost not believe it. 00:25:11.31\00:25:13.17 But the groups were praising God: "Rejoice always... " 00:25:13.38\00:25:16.41 started singing these songs. But we had to push the bus 00:25:16.61\00:25:19.35 several times to start. 00:25:19.55\00:25:20.88 But somehow by God's grace we were able to drive 00:25:22.92\00:25:25.85 you know what is that? About a thousand miles up 00:25:26.05\00:25:29.49 to the place where we had the mission trip and about 00:25:29.69\00:25:32.36 a thousand miles down again... three-week mission trip. 00:25:32.56\00:25:35.06 Afterwards the mechanic he looked at the bus 00:25:35.46\00:25:38.73 and he saw all these problems and all the things with the bus 00:25:38.93\00:25:43.14 that wasn't as they should be. When he saw it he was like: 00:25:43.34\00:25:46.21 "Man, you guys... you guys shouldn't even have been able 00:25:46.41\00:25:49.28 to start this bus! " Yeah. But somehow God brought us through 00:25:49.48\00:25:53.52 those weeks of mission and that long journey 00:25:53.72\00:25:57.65 to the north of Norway and back. 00:25:57.85\00:25:59.49 And it's amazing when you get involved in God's work 00:25:59.69\00:26:02.39 you start to see again and again and again 00:26:02.59\00:26:04.73 how God is working. How God is, you know, doing miracles. 00:26:04.93\00:26:07.83 And of course that inspires your faith 00:26:08.03\00:26:11.33 and encourages you to continue onward in service for God. 00:26:11.53\00:26:15.80 So these were three-week mission trips 00:26:16.00\00:26:18.57 and each year more and more people attended. 00:26:18.77\00:26:21.68 And did you hold it the same place every year? 00:26:21.88\00:26:24.68 We usually had a different city each year. 00:26:25.48\00:26:27.98 We try to help local churches to make an impact 00:26:28.18\00:26:30.95 in their communities, yeah. Yeah... yeah... huh! 00:26:31.15\00:26:34.26 And that's the IMPACT movement? 00:26:34.62\00:26:36.89 That's what you're calling the IMPACT movement, 00:26:37.29\00:26:39.79 and that's Inspiring Members to Proclaim the Advent of Christ 00:26:40.00\00:26:43.40 Together. So that's bringing everybody together 00:26:43.60\00:26:46.30 with one individual goal 00:26:46.50\00:26:48.90 and that is to have the opportunity 00:26:49.10\00:26:52.87 to have brothers and sisters in Christ grow together. 00:26:53.07\00:26:56.44 Now do most of these people stay in touch with each other? 00:26:56.64\00:26:59.61 If you've got 100 people coming to one of your events 00:27:00.02\00:27:03.82 I mean that's a lot of people. 00:27:04.02\00:27:06.02 Yes. Yeah, you've got good friends 00:27:07.72\00:27:10.29 and many people have been friends ever since. 00:27:10.49\00:27:12.86 It's a very special unique and blessed fellowship 00:27:13.06\00:27:17.97 when you go on a trip. It's kind of like the early church. 00:27:18.17\00:27:20.17 You know, you pray together - yes - you go out together - 00:27:20.37\00:27:22.54 yes - you travel together, you eat together 00:27:22.84\00:27:24.44 and it's a blessing to be part of it. Amen! Amen! 00:27:24.64\00:27:27.54 Now I was noticing... I think it was even mentioned 00:27:27.74\00:27:30.68 or I saw it in some notes 00:27:30.88\00:27:32.21 that working for God is such a privilege and a joy. 00:27:32.31\00:27:35.35 Can you explain that? 00:27:35.75\00:27:37.45 What do you mean it's a privilege to work for God? 00:27:37.65\00:27:40.09 For those out there that may not have as close a relationship 00:27:40.49\00:27:44.09 with the Lord as you do where does this joy come from 00:27:44.29\00:27:48.86 that you're talking about? 00:27:49.06\00:27:50.47 You've got these groups of people that are meeting 00:27:50.67\00:27:52.83 and they're very very excited 00:27:53.03\00:27:54.77 even to the point that they're all getting together 00:27:54.97\00:27:56.81 and pushing the busses to get them started. 00:27:57.01\00:27:59.47 So everybody's pretty well on the same page. 00:27:59.87\00:28:01.84 But what do you mean "It's a privilege? " 00:28:02.24\00:28:04.55 Yes. You know, my big dream was to become, to one time 00:28:05.58\00:28:09.25 represent Sweden's national team in soccer. 00:28:09.45\00:28:12.65 And to me, if I could do that that would have been a great 00:28:12.85\00:28:15.36 privilege. It would have been a great honor. 00:28:15.56\00:28:17.89 I would have been very excited about that. 00:28:18.09\00:28:21.03 But when you think about this: 00:28:21.43\00:28:22.76 the Bible says that as Christians 00:28:22.93\00:28:26.37 we are ambassadors for Christ. Amen! 00:28:26.57\00:28:29.10 We are ambassadors for the King and Creator of the universe. 00:28:30.11\00:28:33.74 When you think about that there is no greater privilege. 00:28:34.38\00:28:37.88 There is nothing more exciting, nothing more rewarding, 00:28:38.08\00:28:42.52 nothing more meaningful than that. 00:28:42.72\00:28:45.05 When you think about it a doctor saves lives. 00:28:45.25\00:28:46.76 A firefighter saves peoples' lives. 00:28:47.16\00:28:50.09 That's an exciting work... that's my former work. 00:28:50.29\00:28:51.99 But when you work for God 00:28:52.19\00:28:54.40 you're saving lives for eternity. 00:28:54.60\00:28:58.23 Nothing more important... nothing more exciting. 00:28:58.63\00:29:01.57 In one of my favorite quotes from my favorite author 00:29:01.77\00:29:03.87 Ellen White, she says this: "It is in unselfish ministry 00:29:04.07\00:29:07.84 that true happiness is found. " 00:29:08.04\00:29:10.38 That's Testimonies 7, page 49. 00:29:10.58\00:29:12.45 "It is in unselfish ministry 00:29:12.65\00:29:14.88 that true happiness is found. " 00:29:15.08\00:29:17.09 And I really think that this is true. 00:29:17.49\00:29:19.59 When people get a taste for mission work 00:29:19.79\00:29:21.82 they say: "Hey! This is fun! " 00:29:22.02\00:29:24.23 It's so fun when you see God working. 00:29:24.43\00:29:26.09 You know, one story we had was on one of our mission trips 00:29:26.29\00:29:28.96 some people from our group went to the door 00:29:29.16\00:29:31.93 and they met this man that... he told them 00:29:32.13\00:29:35.87 that he had been a Christian for a while. 00:29:36.07\00:29:39.07 He had been a Muslim for a while. 00:29:39.27\00:29:41.14 But then he was getting kind of confused 00:29:41.34\00:29:43.28 and he was kind of frustrated. So he prayed to God: 00:29:43.48\00:29:45.65 "God, what is true? What should I believe? 00:29:45.85\00:29:49.08 Should I believe in Jesus? In Allah? In Buddha? 00:29:49.28\00:29:52.49 What should I believe? " 00:29:52.69\00:29:54.02 He prayed an earnest prayer then he went to bed. 00:29:54.09\00:29:56.09 That very night he had a dream. 00:29:56.49\00:29:59.23 This is in the west of Norway. 00:29:59.43\00:30:01.46 He had a dream. Long story short 00:30:01.66\00:30:04.47 in that dream, he saw Jesus. 00:30:04.67\00:30:06.17 He was thinking that this was an answer to his prayer. 00:30:06.37\00:30:10.34 That morning after waking up 00:30:10.54\00:30:12.51 he basically accepts Jesus... he becomes a Christian. 00:30:12.71\00:30:16.28 A few hours later 00:30:16.68\00:30:18.68 two of our IMPACT missionaries knock at his door 00:30:18.88\00:30:22.25 to try to find people interested in the Bible. 00:30:22.45\00:30:24.89 Can you imagine? 00:30:25.09\00:30:26.49 It's probably the best day of his life 00:30:26.69\00:30:28.42 to come at his door. God knew; 00:30:28.62\00:30:30.16 God prepared a way. 00:30:30.36\00:30:31.86 As you can imagine, he received some Christian books 00:30:32.06\00:30:34.33 and when those two IMPACT missionaries left that door 00:30:34.53\00:30:38.80 they were smiling... they were happy. 00:30:39.00\00:30:40.64 The thought: "Wow! We are working with God! 00:30:40.84\00:30:44.01 God is working! " 00:30:44.21\00:30:45.54 It's like when Jesus sent out the 70 on IMPACT Gennesaret 00:30:45.64\00:30:49.68 or whatever... IMPACT Jerusalem 00:30:49.88\00:30:51.45 when they came back it also says they returned with joy. 00:30:51.85\00:30:55.08 Amen! And there's no deeper joy, no more lasting joy, 00:30:55.28\00:30:59.32 than what you find in God and in the service of God. Amen! 00:30:59.52\00:31:05.23 Amen! What a wonderful joy it is 00:31:05.43\00:31:11.33 to serve Him. Can you share 00:31:11.53\00:31:14.54 about the radical prayer? 00:31:14.74\00:31:17.61 I know that the radical prayer... 00:31:18.44\00:31:21.11 radical... another word would be extreme... 00:31:21.31\00:31:23.71 is very important to you. In fact, I think that you say 00:31:23.91\00:31:27.18 that that's one of your core philosophies in your life 00:31:27.38\00:31:30.42 is surrounded by this radical prayer. 00:31:30.82\00:31:34.76 Explain what that means. 00:31:34.96\00:31:37.06 Yes... certainly. Yeah, when I was 19 I read this book 00:31:38.13\00:31:42.00 by Derek Morris called The Radical Prayer. 00:31:42.20\00:31:44.07 He's expanding on the prayer of Jesus or explaining the prayer 00:31:44.27\00:31:48.14 of Jesus in Luke chapter 10 00:31:48.34\00:31:50.01 where He said that we should pray that God will 00:31:50.41\00:31:53.11 throw out laborers into His harvest. 00:31:53.31\00:31:55.31 I define it like this in short: 00:31:55.51\00:31:57.61 the radical prayer is to go where God wants you to go 00:31:58.01\00:32:02.68 and do what He wants you to do. 00:32:02.88\00:32:05.75 Amen! It's a daily consecration to God, 00:32:05.95\00:32:08.76 a daily surrender to God where we say: "Hey God, 00:32:08.96\00:32:12.13 I want to go where You want me to go; 00:32:12.33\00:32:13.83 I want to do what You want me to do 00:32:14.03\00:32:16.03 in big things and in small things. " 00:32:16.23\00:32:17.73 And when I was 17, 18, 19 years old 00:32:17.93\00:32:20.44 I really started to pray this. This basically... I started to 00:32:20.64\00:32:24.27 live this prayer basically. This started to be the way of life 00:32:24.47\00:32:27.58 for me. God had... Actually, maybe I can read that. 00:32:27.78\00:32:31.35 It's one of my favorite verses. It's Ephesians ch. 2 verse 10. 00:32:31.55\00:32:35.48 Ephesians 2:10. It says there... well, I know it by heart. 00:32:35.68\00:32:39.19 "For we are God's workmanship, 00:32:39.39\00:32:41.56 created in Christ Jesus to do good works 00:32:41.76\00:32:45.23 which God prepared beforehand for us to walk in love. " 00:32:45.43\00:32:49.43 We are God's workmanship; He has a plan for our lives. 00:32:49.83\00:32:52.93 He has a purpose for our lives. 00:32:53.13\00:32:54.70 I like how I think it was the New Living Translation 00:32:54.90\00:32:56.77 which is an alright translation on this verse. 00:32:56.97\00:33:01.44 It says that: "You are God's masterpiece. " Oh, amen! 00:33:01.64\00:33:05.55 "You are God's masterpiece. " 00:33:06.61\00:33:07.95 God has a purpose and plan for every single of our lives. 00:33:08.12\00:33:11.42 And when we start to realize that 00:33:11.62\00:33:13.69 He's a good God; He know the end from the beginning. 00:33:13.89\00:33:18.03 He wants what is best for us. 00:33:18.23\00:33:19.79 He KNOWS what is best for us. 00:33:20.00\00:33:21.56 And it's such a privilege to really surrender our future 00:33:21.76\00:33:25.53 to Him, that knows the future, that knows our tomorrow. 00:33:25.73\00:33:29.24 So I started praying this prayer 00:33:29.64\00:33:31.07 and, long story... So basically 00:33:31.27\00:33:34.48 that's when I started to get involved in mission work. 00:33:34.68\00:33:37.35 After the Week of Prayer God opened the way... 00:33:37.55\00:33:40.15 the way for me to go to this mission trip to Peru. 00:33:40.35\00:33:44.59 This was my first mission trip. Actually so what happened was 00:33:44.79\00:33:47.72 I was 16. You have to be 18 to join this mission trip. 00:33:47.92\00:33:51.69 We heard about this after the Week of Prayer. 00:33:51.89\00:33:53.40 Me and some friends were like: "Man, that sounds exciting! 00:33:53.60\00:33:56.06 We want to be part of that mission trip. " 00:33:56.26\00:33:57.93 So I decided to apply even though I wasn't 18. 00:33:58.33\00:34:01.20 And I didn't have the money. It was about maybe $1,500 00:34:01.40\00:34:06.21 US dollars. I didn't have the money; 00:34:06.41\00:34:08.18 I didn't have a job at the moment. 00:34:08.38\00:34:09.71 But I prayed: "God if You want me to go to this mission trip, 00:34:09.74\00:34:12.21 open the door. " A few weeks later 00:34:12.41\00:34:14.92 I got an answer that I could go on the trip even though 00:34:15.12\00:34:19.45 I was not 18 years old. 00:34:19.65\00:34:21.32 But still I didn't have the money. 00:34:21.72\00:34:23.09 But that very same day I went to my dorm room 00:34:23.29\00:34:25.59 there at the school at Tyrifjord 00:34:25.79\00:34:27.60 and when I came to the dorm room 00:34:27.80\00:34:31.33 I saw this... actually, I have it here... 00:34:31.53\00:34:33.40 I saw this kind of this paper bag. 00:34:33.60\00:34:35.70 It looks kind of like garbage. 00:34:35.90\00:34:37.84 It was this brown paper hanging on the door there. 00:34:38.04\00:34:40.11 And you know, some of the kids wasn't so much 00:34:40.51\00:34:43.38 grown-up. They were throwing around garbage sometimes. 00:34:43.58\00:34:46.11 I thought it was someone just playing a trick. 00:34:46.31\00:34:48.22 So I took it down and I thought: "Well, I'll just take it in 00:34:48.42\00:34:50.15 my room. I will have a look. " 00:34:50.35\00:34:52.02 So I opened this bag up and there was a white paper inside. 00:34:52.22\00:34:56.36 I took out the paper; I opened the paper... nothing on it. 00:34:56.56\00:34:58.79 Nothing. I was like: "Man, someone is just playing. 00:34:58.99\00:35:00.86 Someone is just messing with me. " 00:35:01.10\00:35:02.43 But then I took a last look before I put it away. 00:35:02.80\00:35:05.03 And in the bottom there I found about 50 US dollars. 00:35:05.23\00:35:08.17 It wasn't what I needed, but I sensed that God was 00:35:08.57\00:35:11.61 saying to me: "Joakim, I want you to go 00:35:11.81\00:35:14.94 on that mission trip to Peru 00:35:15.14\00:35:16.48 and I will provide the money you need. " 00:35:16.64\00:35:18.88 So I remember I was 16 years old. 00:35:19.28\00:35:20.82 It was one of my first personal clear answers to prayer. Amen! 00:35:21.02\00:35:24.59 I remember kneeling down in my dorm room 00:35:24.79\00:35:27.96 and thanking God for opening the way for me to go 00:35:28.16\00:35:30.89 on this mission trip. And long story short 00:35:31.09\00:35:33.96 God ended up providing all the money I needed. 00:35:34.16\00:35:36.73 More than I needed 00:35:36.93\00:35:38.27 from places I would never have imagined. 00:35:38.47\00:35:40.97 And you know, the thing is this: "If it's God's will, 00:35:41.17\00:35:43.17 it's God's bill. If it's His voice, it's His invoice. 00:35:43.37\00:35:47.48 And so I went to this mission trip. 00:35:47.64\00:35:49.38 It was a great time; this was my first mission trip 00:35:49.58\00:35:52.01 and since then I've been going to mission trips all the time. 00:35:52.21\00:35:55.08 You know, every year I go to a number of mission trips 00:35:55.28\00:35:58.05 to different countries. God has opened the way. 00:35:58.25\00:36:00.46 I think actually I have a few pictures here. 00:36:00.66\00:36:01.99 Just a few glimpses from how God has opened more and more doors 00:36:02.16\00:36:06.43 for me in different countries to go and to preach 00:36:06.63\00:36:10.43 in some 20 countries minis- tering on some 6 continents. 00:36:10.63\00:36:14.07 Writing books. Things that I would never have imagined. 00:36:14.27\00:36:16.50 Peru, Australia, Kenya, US, California, Michigan 00:36:16.71\00:36:20.71 and more and more countries. 00:36:20.91\00:36:22.24 I would have never imagined. 00:36:22.28\00:36:23.61 I like FAITH as an acronym. I LIKE to use FAITH as an acronym. 00:36:23.75\00:36:27.62 I think you have this on the screen too. Standing for: 00:36:27.78\00:36:29.82 And as I started to surrender to God and to choose 00:36:32.65\00:36:35.46 "Hey God, I want to choose Your plan for my life. " 00:36:35.66\00:36:37.69 I started to experience this fantastic adventure. 00:36:37.89\00:36:40.96 And it's been so much joy... such a great time. 00:36:41.16\00:36:44.63 It's such a privilege to serve God. 00:36:44.83\00:36:47.00 And you know, the thing is this: 00:36:47.20\00:36:48.54 I would have never imagined. You know, 00:36:48.84\00:36:50.71 when I preached the first time when I was 17 years old - 00:36:50.91\00:36:54.78 that's when I started preaching; that's when I started giving 00:36:54.98\00:36:56.85 Bible studies - a person that knew me since I was little 00:36:57.05\00:37:00.18 when she heard I was going to preach in church 00:37:00.38\00:37:02.82 you know what she said? 00:37:03.02\00:37:04.35 She said: "And the stones will cry out. " 00:37:04.45\00:37:07.12 The stones, right? I used to be shy. 00:37:07.32\00:37:10.33 You know, in school I would rather have a 5-hr. written test 00:37:10.53\00:37:13.70 than a 5-minute presentation in front of 15 people 00:37:13.90\00:37:16.77 when I was 15 years old. 00:37:16.97\00:37:18.30 I used to be shy... whatever, a quiet person. 00:37:18.33\00:37:21.90 I would never imagine, but God opened more and more doors 00:37:22.10\00:37:24.81 for me to preach, write, to do things I would never 00:37:25.01\00:37:27.28 have imagined. Neither did she. 00:37:27.48\00:37:28.91 The thing is this: it's not so much about 00:37:29.11\00:37:31.58 ability as availability. Amen! 00:37:31.78\00:37:35.95 God does not always call the qualified 00:37:36.15\00:37:39.55 but He always qualifies the called. 00:37:39.75\00:37:42.82 And I have seen that in my life and many other people's lives. 00:37:43.02\00:37:45.93 And it's... Yeah, it's a joy; it's a privilege 00:37:46.13\00:37:50.03 in so many ways to serve God. 00:37:50.23\00:37:52.07 So you yourself can see the transformation 00:37:52.27\00:37:55.57 you've gone through. 00:37:55.77\00:37:57.61 And here you wonder: "I was just a shy kid 00:37:57.81\00:38:01.88 that really had no idea what direction I wanted to go in. 00:38:02.08\00:38:05.31 But then again all of a sudden He put me with the right group 00:38:05.51\00:38:09.32 of people. " It was nice to have like-minded people 00:38:09.52\00:38:13.86 in the same group and each of you grew. 00:38:14.06\00:38:18.26 And so then it wasn't long before you were... 00:38:18.66\00:38:21.43 Did you do any Bible working or anything like that? 00:38:21.63\00:38:24.03 Yes. I was Bible working a number of years. 00:38:25.13\00:38:28.50 Been giving Bible studies a lot actually. 00:38:28.70\00:38:31.57 From I was 16 to 19 I think I started having 00:38:31.77\00:38:34.58 Bible studies with about 60-70 people. 00:38:34.78\00:38:37.38 Like everyone, I could find... you know? 00:38:37.58\00:38:39.45 Classmates. Neighbors maybe. 00:38:39.65\00:38:42.92 People I met while traveling in secular countries. 00:38:43.12\00:38:45.79 I prayed for opportunities 00:38:45.99\00:38:47.36 and God led me in contact with more people. 00:38:47.56\00:38:49.59 And I was Bible working actually for two years in the 00:38:49.79\00:38:52.46 northernmost town of the world as they call it 00:38:52.66\00:38:55.30 in Hammerfest. Northernmost SDA church in the world. 00:38:55.50\00:38:58.67 A small church about 10 people at the time... eight people. 00:38:58.87\00:39:01.40 And it was a great time. I was 19 years old 00:39:01.84\00:39:04.41 moving up there far away. That's the first place 00:39:04.61\00:39:07.24 the radical prayer led me: to move all the way up 00:39:07.44\00:39:09.91 north there. I didn't know anyone there. 00:39:10.11\00:39:11.81 I didn't... It was a hard decision. 00:39:12.01\00:39:13.52 You know, it's kind of no sun in the winter. 00:39:13.72\00:39:16.02 Dark and cold and no friends or family far away. 00:39:16.22\00:39:20.42 But it was such a great time. 00:39:20.62\00:39:22.16 And yeah actually, one thing was you know... 00:39:22.36\00:39:26.19 For our first Bible study there you know I was kind of like 00:39:26.39\00:39:28.26 "God, do You really want me to go there? 00:39:28.46\00:39:30.40 And should I really go there? " 00:39:30.60\00:39:32.73 But I felt impressed that this is where God wants me to go. 00:39:32.93\00:39:35.40 And I was... I was like 00:39:35.80\00:39:38.47 "But I don't know if people want to study the Bible... 00:39:38.67\00:39:41.41 if they are interested in that. Why should I work as a 00:39:41.61\00:39:43.14 Bible worker far away from family and friends 00:39:43.35\00:39:45.35 you know in this crazy place? " 00:39:45.55\00:39:47.38 But then I moved up there with a guy from France. 00:39:47.58\00:39:50.42 And we lived together; we worked together. 00:39:50.62\00:39:52.39 For our first Bible study group we invited the contacts 00:39:52.59\00:39:55.89 from one of our mission trips. 00:39:56.09\00:39:57.46 Only one person came. 00:39:57.66\00:39:59.19 When that happened I was disappointed. 00:39:59.39\00:40:01.26 I was like: "God, why did You lead me up here? 00:40:01.46\00:40:04.00 All the way up north? These people aren't actually 00:40:04.20\00:40:05.83 wanting to learn about the Bible anyway? " 00:40:06.03\00:40:07.44 I was kind of frustrated; I was kind of angry with God. 00:40:07.64\00:40:09.44 I walked up on the mountain there... I think we have 00:40:09.64\00:40:11.31 a picture there from Hammerfest when I was Bible working 00:40:11.51\00:40:13.98 up there north on the mountain close to... this is right next 00:40:14.44\00:40:17.05 to the house... very close to the house where I lived. 00:40:17.25\00:40:18.75 I walked up on the mountain there. I was praying to God: 00:40:18.95\00:40:21.08 "God, why did You lead me up here? " But as I prayed 00:40:21.28\00:40:24.59 God reminded me of Jesus. 00:40:24.79\00:40:26.69 You know, how Jesus came to this earth. 00:40:27.92\00:40:29.56 He worked hard 30 years. 00:40:29.76\00:40:31.69 He sends out 70 disciples around the area 00:40:31.89\00:40:33.83 as well as the apostles. They were working; 00:40:34.03\00:40:35.53 they were reaching out to so many people. 00:40:35.73\00:40:37.07 But now at the end of His life in Gethsemane 00:40:37.10\00:40:39.50 it looked like it all would be in vain. 00:40:39.70\00:40:41.80 It looked like it would lead to nothing. 00:40:42.20\00:40:44.24 All the 12 were about to leave Him. 00:40:44.44\00:40:46.68 One would deny Him. 00:40:46.88\00:40:48.48 One would have already left to betray Him. 00:40:48.68\00:40:51.98 And it looked like the great pain 00:40:52.18\00:40:54.78 the great sacrifice He was about to give 00:40:54.98\00:40:56.75 would be in vain. 00:40:56.95\00:40:58.45 It wouldn't help anyone. 00:40:59.22\00:41:00.76 And the thing is this: at this point in time 00:41:01.12\00:41:03.16 Jesus could have taken away the blood from His forehead. 00:41:03.36\00:41:05.56 He could have called for a legion of angels. 00:41:05.76\00:41:07.60 He could have gone up to the throne of heaven again 00:41:07.80\00:41:09.93 and left mankind to perish in their own sin. 00:41:10.13\00:41:12.77 But He didn't do that. Praise God! 00:41:13.07\00:41:15.34 The radical prayer led Him to leave the glory and joy 00:41:15.54\00:41:19.91 of heaven - the BEST PLACE EVER - 00:41:20.11\00:41:22.18 to come down to this dark earth - 00:41:22.38\00:41:24.61 this earth of sin - to serve. 00:41:24.81\00:41:28.05 And God impressed me as I'm praying there 00:41:28.25\00:41:30.22 on top of the mountain. "God, why did You lead me up here? 00:41:30.69\00:41:32.75 No one is interested anyway. " 00:41:33.86\00:41:35.62 God impressed me with this thought: 00:41:35.82\00:41:37.56 "Jesus would have gone through all of that pain 00:41:37.96\00:41:42.23 all of that suffering on that cross 00:41:42.43\00:41:44.73 even if it was only for one person. 00:41:45.13\00:41:47.74 Even if it was only for you. 00:41:47.94\00:41:50.74 Even if it was only for me or for you. " 00:41:50.94\00:41:54.44 He would have done it only for one person! 00:41:54.64\00:41:56.04 And I felt that God impressed me with this thought: 00:41:56.24\00:41:58.15 "I want you to be here. I want you to serve Me here 00:41:58.35\00:42:03.35 even if it only leads one person to salvation. " 00:42:03.55\00:42:07.72 So when God impressed me with that thought I decided 00:42:08.59\00:42:11.29 "Hey, I want to serve God. " I stopped complaining. 00:42:11.49\00:42:13.60 Six months turned into one year 00:42:14.00\00:42:15.76 into two years. It was the beginning of my ministry. 00:42:15.96\00:42:18.70 It was such a great time. 00:42:18.90\00:42:20.24 It was the beginning of all these fantastic adventures 00:42:20.27\00:42:22.67 in trusting Him. And since then 00:42:22.87\00:42:26.24 you know all this time I'm determined to go 00:42:26.44\00:42:29.68 where God wants me to go to do what He wants me to do 00:42:29.88\00:42:32.45 whether it's easy... whether it's hard. 00:42:32.65\00:42:34.75 Because I believe... You know, 00:42:34.95\00:42:37.95 I wouldn't exchange the life I'm living now for anything. 00:42:38.15\00:42:41.99 Not for becoming a professional soccer player 00:42:42.19\00:42:44.33 which was my big dream. 00:42:44.53\00:42:45.86 Not even if I became the best soccer player in the world! 00:42:45.89\00:42:48.03 You know why? Because I know 00:42:48.43\00:42:51.33 that the life my Creator and Redeemer leads me to live 00:42:51.53\00:42:56.47 is the best life I could ever live. 00:42:57.61\00:42:59.67 And I know all of you watching, tuning in listening to this, 00:43:01.24\00:43:05.11 beloved of God: the life that God wants you to live 00:43:05.31\00:43:09.65 is the best and most fulfilling the most exciting, the most 00:43:09.85\00:43:13.92 meaningful life you could ever live. Yes, 00:43:14.12\00:43:16.62 sometimes it's difficult, sometimes it's hard. 00:43:16.83\00:43:18.93 But I like to put it like this: 00:43:19.13\00:43:20.66 life begins at the end of your comfort zone. 00:43:20.86\00:43:25.90 Amen! Amen! 00:43:26.10\00:43:27.70 This kind of segues into whether there's more. 00:43:28.57\00:43:32.44 Tell us about your book. 00:43:33.51\00:43:35.34 Yes. I'm very excited about this book. 00:43:36.41\00:43:39.21 It was just published a couple months ago. 00:43:39.41\00:43:41.38 I worked on it for more than four years. 00:43:41.58\00:43:43.28 What If There's More? Discover- ing a life of radical purpose. 00:43:43.49\00:43:46.42 And in this book I'm basically sharing things 00:43:46.82\00:43:49.39 that have really been a great blessing in my life 00:43:49.59\00:43:52.13 that helped to turn my Christian experience from boring 00:43:52.33\00:43:55.30 to blessed. From a burden to a delight. 00:43:55.50\00:43:59.90 And really to experience God's plan. 00:44:00.30\00:44:04.84 You know, one key sentence that I love is 00:44:05.04\00:44:07.48 the two most important days of your life 00:44:07.68\00:44:11.31 are the day you are born 00:44:11.51\00:44:13.55 and the day you find out why. 00:44:13.95\00:44:16.08 Amen! And one of the purposes of this book 00:44:16.28\00:44:18.82 is to help you find out what is God's purpose for you? 00:44:19.02\00:44:21.52 He has a purpose for you. 00:44:21.72\00:44:23.06 He has a plan for you. 00:44:23.16\00:44:24.49 A great plan... a beautiful plan. 00:44:24.66\00:44:26.63 I want to help people to find that plan, 00:44:27.03\00:44:29.36 to trust that plan, and then also to 00:44:29.56\00:44:31.90 powerfully fulfill God's purposes 00:44:32.10\00:44:35.00 in the degree He wants them to be fulfilled. 00:44:35.20\00:44:38.27 To reach the God-given potential 00:44:38.47\00:44:41.21 that every single one of you have. 00:44:41.41\00:44:43.28 And so that's really what the book is about. 00:44:43.48\00:44:45.45 I can read maybe what a few people say about this book here. 00:44:45.65\00:44:51.55 Anna Scheglov, President of GYC Europe at the time, 00:44:52.65\00:44:55.49 she said this: "What If There Is More? 00:44:55.69\00:44:57.06 provides fleeting glimpses at the dream of God 00:44:57.26\00:45:00.76 for our lives amidst an irresistible invitation 00:45:00.96\00:45:03.77 to aspire to new heights with Jesus. " 00:45:03.97\00:45:07.34 Andrew Park, President of GYC in the United States, 00:45:07.54\00:45:10.01 he said this: "I have been extremely blessed 00:45:10.21\00:45:12.97 reading What If There Is More? 00:45:13.17\00:45:14.84 Everything in this book is exactly what I would want 00:45:15.24\00:45:18.51 to communicate to another person who has not experienced 00:45:18.71\00:45:22.25 the beauty of Adventism. " 00:45:22.45\00:45:24.12 Henry Fiason, one of the leaders of IMPACt Denmark, he said: 00:45:24.32\00:45:26.82 "I wish every Adventist would read this book 00:45:27.12\00:45:30.26 and catch the vision it conveys. 00:45:30.46\00:45:32.36 It would no doubt result in the finishing of the work 00:45:32.56\00:45:35.80 in this generation and speed the return 00:45:36.00\00:45:38.70 of our Lord Jesus Christ. " 00:45:38.90\00:45:40.24 There are many endorsements. You can read more about them. 00:45:40.40\00:45:42.27 Melody Mason... she loved the book as well. 00:45:42.47\00:45:43.81 I love her so I'm happy that she enjoyed it. 00:45:44.01\00:45:46.54 And I'm very thankful how God has led, 00:45:46.74\00:45:49.11 how this has come together 00:45:49.31\00:45:50.65 and to get the response from people how they are blessed. 00:45:53.42\00:45:57.42 A few days ago someone ordered 25 more books after reading it 00:45:57.62\00:46:00.36 they were so blessed that they want to share it with others. 00:46:00.56\00:46:02.52 And it's a blessing to see how God has used me 00:46:02.72\00:46:04.96 to transform lives. 00:46:05.16\00:46:06.49 I love the way that you... 00:46:06.53\00:46:07.90 I don't know if it came from the New Living Translation or what 00:46:08.70\00:46:11.83 but Ephesians 3:20 and Ephesians 2:10. 00:46:12.03\00:46:14.70 I like the way that you are tying those in together. 00:46:14.90\00:46:17.31 God has much more in mind for the Christian life and ministry 00:46:17.51\00:46:21.04 than most people experience. 00:46:21.24\00:46:23.38 You are God's masterpiece; 00:46:23.78\00:46:26.75 thus He has a beautiful plan for your life 00:46:26.95\00:46:29.98 and wants to do powerful things in you and through you. 00:46:30.19\00:46:33.69 Now it seems to me like you are sitting here saying 00:46:34.72\00:46:37.63 "Hey, I stepped out in faith because I know that I know 00:46:37.83\00:46:40.53 that I know that I heard the Lord. " 00:46:40.73\00:46:42.53 "I knew that I was on track. 00:46:42.93\00:46:46.20 I had no idea where I was going 00:46:46.40\00:46:48.44 but I knew that I was on track. " 00:46:48.64\00:46:50.34 And then it seems like 00:46:50.54\00:46:52.67 the transformation begins to work 00:46:54.34\00:46:57.55 taking one baby step to a little bit bigger baby step. 00:46:57.95\00:47:01.62 Whenever you found yourself wondering 00:47:01.82\00:47:04.72 you had no problem in asking "Lord, is this from You? 00:47:04.92\00:47:08.59 Am I on track? " 00:47:08.79\00:47:10.13 And then He makes it perfectly 00:47:10.16\00:47:11.96 clear to you. 00:47:12.16\00:47:13.60 And so then as you turn around 00:47:14.10\00:47:16.06 and you look at what you're finding out 00:47:16.26\00:47:18.63 there is more. 00:47:19.87\00:47:21.44 Never in a million years would I have thought 00:47:21.64\00:47:24.81 that I would go as far as I've gone. 00:47:25.21\00:47:29.28 And I truly believe that I haven't even started yet 00:47:29.68\00:47:32.85 because the Creator of the universe 00:47:33.78\00:47:35.98 is being my guide. 00:47:36.18\00:47:38.02 Amen. What? Are there any? 00:47:38.99\00:47:44.13 Are there any other things that you think about 00:47:44.33\00:47:47.03 maybe about the story behind this author? 00:47:47.23\00:47:51.67 This name? Yes. Yeah, you know 00:47:54.67\00:47:58.04 I got into writing... I got first the idea 00:47:58.24\00:48:02.14 to write my first book when I was 24. 00:48:02.34\00:48:04.15 I never thought about writing a book before. 00:48:04.31\00:48:06.18 But it was after a very busy summer. 00:48:06.38\00:48:08.28 You know, I'd been on IMPACT mission trips 00:48:08.48\00:48:09.88 in different countries preaching. 00:48:10.09\00:48:11.45 I spent some days in the solitude of the Swedish forest 00:48:11.65\00:48:15.02 seeking God, recharging my batteries. 00:48:15.22\00:48:17.33 That's when God impressed me with the idea. 00:48:17.53\00:48:19.23 And for the new book again it was after a very busy 00:48:19.63\00:48:23.50 time I'd been on different mission trips, different 00:48:23.70\00:48:26.63 preaching in Australia... different places. 00:48:26.84\00:48:28.54 On Sabbath morning I woke up and I really felt this strong 00:48:29.77\00:48:32.54 impression I should write a book on this topic. 00:48:32.74\00:48:34.51 And all these ideas came to me: the aim, 00:48:34.71\00:48:37.05 the structure, the target group. 00:48:37.25\00:48:39.11 And when I read it today - reviewed the notes today - 00:48:39.31\00:48:43.35 it actually fits very well with what the book turned out to be 00:48:43.55\00:48:46.45 eventually. And the next morning 00:48:46.65\00:48:48.79 you know I woke up before 5 o'clock 00:48:48.99\00:48:51.49 and I had all these ideas. 00:48:51.69\00:48:53.53 For 1-/2 hours I got all these ideas for the book 00:48:53.73\00:48:56.03 and at 6:30 AM I started writing. 00:48:56.23\00:48:59.03 And then I talked with people 00:48:59.23\00:49:00.97 and more and more people encouraged me. 00:49:01.17\00:49:02.54 Like: "Man, this sounds great! " 00:49:02.74\00:49:04.07 and confirmed that this was something I should do. 00:49:04.11\00:49:05.57 When actually that came I had been praying for several months. 00:49:05.77\00:49:08.38 I was at a crossroad in my life. 00:49:08.58\00:49:10.41 "God, what do You want me to do next? " 00:49:10.61\00:49:11.95 This is when this vision came 00:49:11.98\00:49:14.55 and I think God gave me this. 00:49:14.75\00:49:16.08 I took several months to focus really on writing this book 00:49:16.12\00:49:18.22 shortly after I was in this crossroad in my life. 00:49:18.42\00:49:21.92 And it's exciting to see how this has been coming together 00:49:22.12\00:49:24.29 and how God has been leading and impressing people also 00:49:24.49\00:49:26.70 to donate. I printed half of the books a couple years ago 00:49:26.90\00:49:30.03 so I could give it to everyone attending GYC Europe. 00:49:30.23\00:49:32.70 And more and more the book is getting out 00:49:32.90\00:49:35.50 in different countries, also different languages. 00:49:35.70\00:49:38.71 My first book. And yeah, it's been a joy to see! 00:49:38.91\00:49:41.64 Well, it certainly has a wonderful title: 00:49:42.04\00:49:46.61 What If There Is More? 00:49:46.82\00:49:48.68 I mean, that's enticing. 00:49:49.08\00:49:50.92 Do you have some closing words? 00:49:52.55\00:49:55.02 We're going to go to a newsbreak here in about a minute 00:49:55.42\00:49:58.66 but do you have some closing words 00:49:58.86\00:50:00.93 on what's so special about What If There Is More? 00:50:01.13\00:50:06.23 Yes. I have a short promo video. 00:50:07.60\00:50:10.67 I don't know if we should watch it now or afterward. 00:50:10.87\00:50:13.14 Let's look at it right now. Yeah. 00:50:13.34\00:50:15.48 The early church consisted of thousands of active 00:50:26.12\00:50:28.16 lay people that were personally sharing the good news about God. 00:50:28.36\00:50:31.76 What if the same could happen today? 00:50:32.63\00:50:36.33 At AFCOE we have great classes ranging on topics 00:50:37.40\00:50:40.57 from Spirit of Prophecy to personal evangelism. 00:50:40.77\00:50:43.77 Another big blessing is to be around people 00:50:45.74\00:50:48.31 that are mission-minded... people that are willing to 00:50:48.51\00:50:50.98 do the mission work and put in practice everything 00:50:51.18\00:50:53.65 that they learn in classes. 00:50:53.85\00:50:55.18 Before coming to AFCOE 00:50:55.52\00:50:56.85 I didn't know how to do mission work 00:50:57.02\00:50:59.79 and I was afraid to do it... 00:51:00.29\00:51:01.62 but now I know and I am no longer afraid. 00:51:02.59\00:51:05.63 Have you ever asked yourself 00:51:06.23\00:51:07.86 "How could I be able to do that? 00:51:08.06\00:51:09.86 To be able to share God's love with others? " 00:51:10.07\00:51:12.00 I have never grown so much in my life 00:51:12.40\00:51:14.34 from fear to confidence, from discouragement to perseverance, 00:51:14.54\00:51:19.84 and from insecurity to leadership skills. 00:51:20.04\00:51:23.58 It has been such an incredible blessing to see 00:51:24.95\00:51:27.35 how when we ask God to send us people 00:51:27.55\00:51:30.05 He will be faithful and true 00:51:30.25\00:51:31.59 and He will send us people at the right time 00:51:31.72\00:51:33.86 and the right place. 00:51:34.06\00:51:35.39 Leading a person to find what you have found in Jesus 00:51:36.02\00:51:39.39 there's nothing better than that. 00:51:39.79\00:51:42.40 If there's one thing I've learned at AFCOE 00:51:43.26\00:51:45.03 it's that the harvest is great. 00:51:45.43\00:51:47.17 It is truly plentiful. And empowered by the Spirit 00:51:47.37\00:51:50.71 harvesting doesn't have to be difficult. 00:51:50.91\00:51:53.01 By taking part in God's work 00:51:53.74\00:51:55.94 and seeing all the wonderful and powerful things He has done 00:51:56.14\00:51:59.88 my faith has grown like never before. 00:52:00.08\00:52:02.95 Inspiration tells us that when the members 00:52:04.09\00:52:06.55 of the church of God do their part 00:52:06.76\00:52:08.76 the whole world will soon be reached and the Lord Jesus 00:52:08.96\00:52:11.89 will return to this earth in power and great glory. 00:52:12.09\00:52:15.00 Now it's exciting to see how God is working 00:52:15.50\00:52:18.37 across Europe and around the world today 00:52:18.57\00:52:21.00 to raise up such an army of workers. 00:52:21.20\00:52:24.21 Now my question to you is this: 00:52:25.67\00:52:28.31 do you want to be a part of it? 00:52:28.51\00:52:31.65 Wow! Boy, that said a whole lot right there. 00:52:40.52\00:52:43.06 Let's just take right now and go into 00:52:43.26\00:52:45.09 our newsbreak and really just start... 00:52:45.29\00:52:50.30 how to get in touch with Joakim. 00:52:50.50\00:52:54.64
