And we are excited about this particular program 00:01:10.73\00:01:14.24 because it is a program about witnessing, Idalia. 00:01:14.44\00:01:18.21 That's right, and we're all called to "Go ye. " 00:01:18.41\00:01:22.31 Right? So I will go. 00:01:22.51\00:01:24.48 And will you join us? Will you say: "I will go" 00:01:24.68\00:01:28.05 and put into practice different ways of witnessing 00:01:28.25\00:01:33.09 to those around you in your community? 00:01:33.29\00:01:35.92 Even your own family at times, right? Um-hmm. 00:01:36.12\00:01:38.53 That's right. We have a guest that is 00:01:38.73\00:01:41.40 an active person in many ways. 00:01:41.60\00:01:44.13 So you're going to find out about this because he is 00:01:44.33\00:01:46.47 the co-founder of F5 Challenge 00:01:46.67\00:01:49.17 and also the co-founder of ARME Bible Camp. 00:01:49.37\00:01:52.17 Welcome, Dr. Calvin Kim. 00:01:52.37\00:01:54.41 Thank you so much. Great to be here with you guys. 00:01:54.61\00:01:56.28 Thank you so much. And you are Dr. because 00:01:56.48\00:01:59.38 you are in what area of medicine? I practice dentistry 00:01:59.58\00:02:02.22 in Olympia, Washington. 00:02:02.42\00:02:03.75 Excellent! Excellent! Well we're going to find out 00:02:03.79\00:02:05.72 a little bit more about Calvin 00:02:05.92\00:02:07.79 and also about the F5 Challenge. 00:02:07.99\00:02:11.09 That sounds very interesting: F5 Challenge. Um-hmm. 00:02:11.29\00:02:13.90 I know most people like a challenge. 00:02:14.10\00:02:16.06 And so we encourage you to listen carefully 00:02:16.46\00:02:19.13 and also you may want to jot down information 00:02:19.33\00:02:22.34 because you may be interested in participating 00:02:22.54\00:02:25.71 in this way of reaching out to people with the Word of God, 00:02:25.91\00:02:29.94 reaching out to people with the gospel. 00:02:30.15\00:02:31.65 Um-hmm. That's right. 00:02:31.85\00:02:33.18 Many times we hear of people that want to do something 00:02:33.21\00:02:35.58 for Jesus. "What can I do? I'm so old 00:02:35.78\00:02:38.79 or I'm so limited. " 00:02:38.99\00:02:41.69 But you know, the Lord gives different opportunities 00:02:41.89\00:02:44.53 and sometimes we need to think outside the box. 00:02:44.73\00:02:47.10 Sometimes what works with one community 00:02:47.30\00:02:50.27 doesn't work for another. 00:02:50.47\00:02:52.23 So there is a community of people 00:02:52.43\00:02:54.54 that I cannot reach but because of your skills 00:02:54.74\00:02:57.87 and your God-given talents you can reach. 00:02:58.07\00:03:01.21 So we're going to learn about how to put into practice 00:03:01.41\00:03:04.31 this gift for soul-winning. 00:03:04.51\00:03:07.18 And before we do all of that 00:03:07.58\00:03:09.18 we're going to go to the Lord in prayer. 00:03:09.38\00:03:10.72 And we want to ask you to remember to pray 00:03:10.75\00:03:13.29 for the requests, and we encourage you to join 00:03:13.49\00:03:16.16 3ABN Prayer Warrior team. 00:03:16.36\00:03:18.59 We have prayer warriors in practically... in every country 00:03:18.79\00:03:21.80 in the world. Amen! And so we just encourage you 00:03:22.00\00:03:25.10 to participate in ministry by praying for people. 00:03:25.30\00:03:28.37 And when you pray for others you are also blessed. 00:03:28.57\00:03:32.01 But for now we encourage you to join us 00:03:32.21\00:03:34.44 as we go to the Lord in prayer. 00:03:34.64\00:03:36.28 Our loving heavenly Father, 00:03:37.38\00:03:39.31 we thank you, Lord, for Your great mercy and Your kindness. 00:03:39.51\00:03:43.39 We thank you, Lord, that we can call upon You at any time 00:03:43.79\00:03:47.86 of the day. There's no time when the doors are closed 00:03:48.06\00:03:51.99 or You are out to lunch. We thank you, Lord, 00:03:52.19\00:03:55.40 that You are always available. 00:03:55.60\00:03:57.10 And we pray that as we are participating in this program 00:03:57.30\00:04:01.10 You will bless us with Your Holy Spirit. 00:04:01.30\00:04:03.51 Bless Calvin with a message that You know Your children 00:04:03.71\00:04:08.24 need to hear. We also ask for You to consider every request 00:04:08.44\00:04:12.68 that has come to 3ABN. 00:04:12.88\00:04:14.78 You know every person; You know every need. 00:04:14.98\00:04:17.42 And no need is too small, no need is too great. 00:04:17.62\00:04:21.09 And we ask You, Lord, to bring to people 00:04:21.49\00:04:24.39 that which they need most. 00:04:24.59\00:04:26.56 There are people with financial challenges. 00:04:26.76\00:04:29.00 People that are facing illnesses 00:04:29.20\00:04:32.50 and they need strength and they need healing. 00:04:32.70\00:04:35.77 We pray, Lord, that You will provide strength and healing. 00:04:35.97\00:04:39.04 Some are ready for healing now; some may need to wait. 00:04:39.24\00:04:41.68 So we pray that You will help them to continue 00:04:41.88\00:04:44.41 looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. 00:04:44.61\00:04:47.82 And we ask You, heavenly Father, to be with all those 00:04:48.22\00:04:50.69 that are praying for their loved ones. 00:04:50.89\00:04:52.82 Some of them are out in the world in great danger. 00:04:53.32\00:04:56.02 We ask for Your holy angels and Your Holy Spirit to 00:04:56.22\00:04:58.19 reach out to them, protect them, 00:04:58.39\00:04:59.73 but for Your Holy Spirit to draw them back to Jesus. 00:04:59.83\00:05:03.26 We ask for a blessing for all that are listening to this 00:05:03.47\00:05:06.87 program. And we ask for all these things in the holy 00:05:07.07\00:05:09.80 and blessed name of Jesus. Amen. 00:05:10.01\00:05:13.41 Amen. Amen. 00:05:13.61\00:05:15.44 Well, we'd like to read a Bible scripture for you at this time. 00:05:15.84\00:05:18.71 And Idalia, if you will help us with the scripture reading. Yes. 00:05:18.91\00:05:21.88 III John 1:2 says: "Beloved, 00:05:22.08\00:05:25.35 I pray that you may prosper in all things 00:05:25.55\00:05:28.42 and be in health just as your soul prospers. " 00:05:28.62\00:05:33.50 Amen. Well this is the disciple/apostle John 00:05:33.70\00:05:37.83 writing a letter with a wonderful message. 00:05:38.03\00:05:41.10 And Calvin, what would you like to share about this particular 00:05:41.30\00:05:44.94 verse... why it appeals to you. 00:05:45.14\00:05:46.51 You know, I love it that... we hear God's heart speaking 00:05:46.91\00:05:50.75 to us: He wants to see us prospering. 00:05:50.95\00:05:52.85 A synonym for this is to thrive. 00:05:53.05\00:05:54.82 Yes. And He equates it right there with our spiritual 00:05:55.02\00:05:58.29 wellbeing that He wants us to be in good health. 00:05:58.49\00:06:00.46 You know, years ago I really suffered with health problems 00:06:00.66\00:06:04.23 at a young age, and it was the hardest year of my life. 00:06:04.39\00:06:06.76 But looking back it was probably the greatest blessing 00:06:06.96\00:06:08.90 because I learned a valuable lesson that a lot of people 00:06:09.10\00:06:11.60 don't learn until later on in life 00:06:11.80\00:06:13.13 and how valuable our health is. 00:06:13.34\00:06:14.77 And the reason why is for that one year 00:06:14.97\00:06:17.24 my wife was like a single mother that year. 00:06:17.44\00:06:19.31 I was checked out. I was con- sumed with my health problems. 00:06:19.51\00:06:22.58 One of my favorite quotes goes like this: 00:06:22.98\00:06:25.08 "He who has his health has 1,000 dreams or goals. 00:06:25.28\00:06:28.02 He who does not have his health has only one dream or goal 00:06:28.22\00:06:31.22 and that's focusing on trying to get better. " 00:06:31.42\00:06:33.66 And so because of that that has really lended itself 00:06:33.86\00:06:36.26 to me being very passionate about health 00:06:36.46\00:06:38.86 and I see how it correlates with our spiritual life. 00:06:39.06\00:06:41.56 Amen; amen. Well, we want to know a little bit more 00:06:41.76\00:06:45.10 about F5 Challenge. And this is going to be 00:06:45.30\00:06:49.07 very very interesting... impacting as well. Um-hmm. 00:06:49.27\00:06:52.21 And also, young people - really everybody - 00:06:52.41\00:06:56.21 that's right! everybody needs to pay close attention. 00:06:56.41\00:06:58.65 But before we get into that we do have a song 00:06:58.85\00:07:01.88 that we'd like to share with you. 00:07:02.08\00:07:04.22 An inspiring song. Idalia, can you help us with that? 00:07:04.42\00:07:08.02 We're going to have an instrumental interpretation 00:07:08.22\00:07:10.53 by Jaime Jorge. 00:07:10.73\00:07:13.16 And this is entitled El-Shaddai. 00:07:13.36\00:07:18.07 OK... if you clap you have to sing. 00:07:31.75\00:07:34.05 El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai, 00:07:34.25\00:07:38.85 El-elyon na Adonai, 00:07:39.05\00:07:43.12 Age to age You're still the same 00:07:43.83\00:07:47.80 by the power of the name. 00:07:48.33\00:07:52.37 El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai, 00:07:52.77\00:07:57.11 Erkamka na Adonai 00:07:57.51\00:08:01.28 We will praise and lift You high 00:08:02.04\00:08:06.28 El-Shaddai. 00:08:06.85\00:08:09.62 Through Your love and through the ram 00:08:11.75\00:08:15.52 You saved the son of Abraham. 00:08:15.72\00:08:19.73 And by the power of Your hand 00:08:20.43\00:08:24.63 turned the sea into dry land. 00:08:25.03\00:08:29.37 To the outcast on her knees 00:08:29.57\00:08:33.44 You were the God who really sees. 00:08:34.08\00:08:37.85 And by Your might You set Your children free. 00:08:39.48\00:08:44.92 El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai, 00:08:47.96\00:08:51.89 El-Elyon na Adonai 00:08:52.09\00:08:56.26 Age to age You're still the same 00:08:56.90\00:09:00.67 by the power of the name. 00:09:01.40\00:09:05.57 El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai, 00:09:05.77\00:09:10.15 Erkamka na Adonai 00:09:10.55\00:09:14.38 We will praise and lift You high 00:09:15.02\00:09:19.19 El-Shaddai. 00:09:19.82\00:09:22.26 Through the years You made it clear 00:09:24.63\00:09:28.26 that the time of Christ was near. 00:09:28.76\00:09:32.63 Though the people failed to see 00:09:33.57\00:09:37.24 what Messiah ought to be. 00:09:37.44\00:09:41.94 And though Your Word contained the plan 00:09:42.34\00:09:46.25 they just could not understand. 00:09:46.65\00:09:50.42 Your most awesome work was done 00:09:51.92\00:09:54.99 through the frailty of Your Son. 00:09:56.22\00:10:00.63 El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai, 00:10:03.13\00:10:07.44 El-Elyon na Adonai 00:10:07.64\00:10:11.64 Age to age You're still the same 00:10:12.54\00:10:16.24 by the power of the name. 00:10:16.95\00:10:21.35 El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai, 00:10:22.12\00:10:25.99 Erkamka na Adonai 00:10:26.19\00:10:30.43 We will praise and lift You high 00:10:30.63\00:10:35.10 El-Shaddai... 00:10:35.73\00:10:38.23 We will praise and lift You high 00:10:40.44\00:10:44.51 El-Shaddai. 00:10:45.21\00:10:47.54 Amen! Thank you very much. 00:10:58.32\00:10:59.85 That's Jaime Jorge. Loves to play the violin. 00:11:00.06\00:11:03.63 It's an instrument that speaks as well. 00:11:03.83\00:11:05.86 And we encourage you to also if you want to know more 00:11:06.06\00:11:10.43 about Jaime Jorge, you can find him easily on Facebook. 00:11:10.63\00:11:13.74 And he's a person that has a wonderful testimony as well. 00:11:13.94\00:11:16.77 I'm sure that you'll be blessed if you invite him to participate 00:11:16.97\00:11:19.87 in an event whether it be an evangelistic campaign 00:11:20.08\00:11:22.58 or just a concert you will be blessed. 00:11:22.78\00:11:25.05 He's got many wonderful stories to share as well 00:11:25.25\00:11:28.88 about the preaching of the gospel. 00:11:29.08\00:11:30.42 Talking about preaching of the gospel 00:11:30.45\00:11:31.99 we'd like to ask Calvin what would have led you to share 00:11:32.39\00:11:35.42 the gospel with others? 00:11:35.79\00:11:37.13 You know, it's good to find a lot of metaphors 00:11:37.59\00:11:40.66 about the brevity of life. 00:11:40.86\00:11:42.36 That life is to fragile and fleeting. 00:11:42.56\00:11:44.87 And as a practicing dentist 00:11:45.07\00:11:46.90 everything that I do in my office is temporary. 00:11:47.10\00:11:49.74 It's provisional. Um-hmm. 00:11:49.94\00:11:51.84 I think C. T. Studd, the missionary to China said it best 00:11:52.04\00:11:54.54 "Only one life... 'twill soon be past. 00:11:54.74\00:11:56.91 Only what's done for Christ will last. " 00:11:57.11\00:11:59.68 And so I try to keep that in the forefront 00:11:59.88\00:12:01.72 so that's a guiding principle for everything that I do. 00:12:01.92\00:12:04.55 Let's focus on the things that really truly matter 00:12:04.75\00:12:06.65 in lieu of how short life is. 00:12:06.86\00:12:08.86 Praise the Lord! 00:12:09.06\00:12:10.69 Great message! That's right. 00:12:10.89\00:12:12.39 I'd like to find out: you're co-founder of 00:12:12.59\00:12:16.63 F5 Challenge. F5? Does that mean only 5 people can participate. 00:12:16.83\00:12:21.97 What does F5 Challenge mean? 00:12:22.17\00:12:24.37 Great question. If you don't mind, I'm going to share 00:12:24.57\00:12:26.68 with you how this ministry got started. Please do! 00:12:26.88\00:12:28.78 It was never intended... I got a phone call out of the blue 00:12:28.98\00:12:31.65 in the spring of 2016 by Pastor Ron DuPreez. 00:12:31.85\00:12:35.05 He's a well-known Adventist. 00:12:35.25\00:12:36.58 A pastor, theologian, & an active runner. 00:12:36.62\00:12:39.05 People who know him they know how much he loves to run. 00:12:39.25\00:12:40.72 And because I love doing things like that 00:12:40.92\00:12:42.52 he called me out of the blue and he asked me if I wanted 00:12:42.72\00:12:44.59 to run the Grand Canyon as a fundraiser for his church. 00:12:44.79\00:12:47.06 That's a 48-mile run from South Rim to North Rim 00:12:47.26\00:12:49.80 back to the South Rim. 00:12:50.00\00:12:51.63 And when he asked me I thought: "This sounds absolutely 00:12:51.83\00:12:54.20 amazing and miserable all at the same time. " 00:12:54.40\00:12:56.77 And because I'm into this kind of thing 00:12:57.61\00:12:59.24 I knew it would take me about 4 months to train for this. 00:12:59.44\00:13:01.41 Four months! Yeah, I'm a very social person 00:13:01.61\00:13:03.65 and I live by the motto "Misery loves company. " 00:13:03.85\00:13:06.45 So the idea of just me and Pr. Ron training for this 00:13:07.12\00:13:09.95 and doing this by ourselves was not as exciting 00:13:10.15\00:13:11.89 as "Let's get other people to come in. " Right. 00:13:12.09\00:13:13.96 So I was at a conference. 00:13:14.16\00:13:15.49 I was helping to organize a certain conference 00:13:15.66\00:13:17.79 and I was talking to the volunteers 00:13:18.19\00:13:19.69 and I shared the idea with them. 00:13:19.89\00:13:21.23 And I couldn't believe how many of these young adults 00:13:21.26\00:13:23.00 wanted to come. They didn't want to run the Grand Canyon... 00:13:23.20\00:13:26.00 they just wanted to come for an adventure. 00:13:26.20\00:13:28.20 Yes. Um-hmm. A road trip... camp out. Yes. 00:13:28.40\00:13:30.94 And one of them said: "We're going to have to get in shape 00:13:31.14\00:13:33.01 for this. " They wanted to hike just a few miles 00:13:33.21\00:13:35.54 of the Grand Canyon. And that night I had an epiphany. 00:13:35.74\00:13:38.01 I thought: You know what? These young people 00:13:38.41\00:13:40.22 they want an adventure. " That's right. 00:13:40.42\00:13:41.78 "They want connection. They want to go out and do something. " 00:13:41.98\00:13:44.89 Um-hmm. And so we started brainstorming about a name. 00:13:45.09\00:13:47.92 And we're like: "Pastor Ron, want's fundraising? " Yes. 00:13:48.12\00:13:50.36 "Faith is always the basis for everything we do. That's right. 00:13:50.56\00:13:52.39 There's going to be fitness involved, so that's F3. " 00:13:52.59\00:13:54.96 Um-hmm. And then you know what we decided? 00:13:55.16\00:13:56.80 As more people got excited we're like: "People don't want 00:13:57.00\00:13:59.20 to have to fundraise to come to an event 00:13:59.40\00:14:01.00 so let's drop the fundraising. " 00:14:01.20\00:14:02.54 So the first F is faith. 00:14:02.57\00:14:04.31 Fellowship, Fitness, Fortitude, and Fun. 00:14:04.47\00:14:08.64 Which correlates with spiritual, emotional, physical, mental, 00:14:08.84\00:14:12.11 and social: the five components of human wellbeing. 00:14:12.31\00:14:14.78 And so because we want to focus on being complete as humans. 00:14:15.18\00:14:19.92 So that's where the name comes from. Excellent! I like it. 00:14:20.12\00:14:21.46 Now I like F5 Challenge! 00:14:21.62\00:14:23.49 Well, it's exciting that the Lord put that in your heart 00:14:24.46\00:14:27.36 to get other people involved. 00:14:27.56\00:14:29.10 Whenever there's something good we want to share with others. 00:14:29.30\00:14:32.10 There's a passion that drives you. 00:14:32.30\00:14:34.74 So all of a sudden you have all these people 00:14:34.94\00:14:36.97 interested in attending. I'm so glad you said that 00:14:37.17\00:14:42.14 not everybody was there to do the run. That's right. 00:14:42.34\00:14:45.01 But we all want to feel like a sense of belonging - 00:14:45.21\00:14:49.08 if I could say that word - belonging together. Yes. 00:14:49.28\00:14:52.05 And yes, that misery likes company is true! 00:14:52.25\00:14:57.53 We will take the challenge. But what does F5 make 00:14:57.73\00:15:01.10 sense in ministry today? 00:15:01.30\00:15:03.33 So that summer what we did is we set up a Facebook group? 00:15:03.53\00:15:07.67 We set up a free website and a lot of it was just 00:15:07.87\00:15:10.01 word of mouth. Yes. And so we had people that wanted 00:15:10.21\00:15:12.54 to actually start training to get in shape for this 00:15:12.74\00:15:14.21 which really was exciting for me 'cause if I can motivate 00:15:14.41\00:15:16.88 other people... Right. You know sometimes when you have a goal 00:15:17.08\00:15:19.35 it's easier to get motivated to train. 00:15:19.55\00:15:22.22 Yes. But there were two things that happened that summer 00:15:22.42\00:15:24.32 that was a real game changer for me. Um-hmm. 00:15:24.52\00:15:26.35 Now at that point I was the director of a ministry called 00:15:26.55\00:15:28.99 ARME Bible Camp. We'd bring people together. 00:15:29.19\00:15:31.26 It's all about the revival work. Right. 00:15:31.66\00:15:32.99 I met a friend of mine I hadn't seen for many years 00:15:33.46\00:15:37.17 and we had gone on a mission trip before. 00:15:37.37\00:15:38.70 She was not a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:15:38.80\00:15:42.40 Right. And I got her to go hiking with us. 00:15:42.60\00:15:44.64 On the second day of our hike she started asking us 00:15:44.84\00:15:47.31 about what we believe. 00:15:47.51\00:15:48.84 And when I dropped her off at her car - 'cause it was 00:15:48.94\00:15:51.01 parked at my house - she said to me: 00:15:51.21\00:15:52.85 "I'd like to take you up on that offer for Bible studies. " 00:15:53.05\00:15:54.82 And that was very exciting to me. Praise the Lord! 00:15:55.52\00:15:57.59 All I did was invite her to go hiking - 00:15:57.75\00:15:59.29 I didn't invite her to come to church - yes - 00:15:59.49\00:16:00.86 and now she's asking for Bible studies! Amen! 00:16:01.06\00:16:02.82 Two people that summer messaged me, and what they said 00:16:03.02\00:16:05.93 is basically: "I'm not religious... can I come? " 00:16:06.13\00:16:09.60 Um-hmm! They wanted to come to the Grand Canyon because 00:16:09.80\00:16:11.63 they heard about the adventure. Yes; right. 00:16:11.83\00:16:13.84 So I was like: "Wow! This is amazing. " 00:16:14.04\00:16:15.90 We have an Adventist get-together, and because I was 00:16:16.10\00:16:18.57 used to organizing conferences 00:16:18.77\00:16:20.38 it wasn't just come and camp out. 00:16:20.58\00:16:21.91 You know, let's have guest speakers. 00:16:21.98\00:16:23.31 Have Pastor Ron give a presentation. Right. 00:16:23.35\00:16:25.78 Let's have fellowship; let's do all these things 00:16:26.31\00:16:28.42 and then on Sunday would be the big adventure day. Right. 00:16:28.62\00:16:30.92 And so we planned this whole weekend. 00:16:31.12\00:16:32.55 And I was like: "This is so unique! " 00:16:32.75\00:16:34.16 Because being part of ARME Bible Camp - 00:16:34.36\00:16:37.03 which was a wonderful ex- perience - it's really designed 00:16:37.23\00:16:38.89 for Adventist people. Um-hmm. 00:16:39.09\00:16:40.73 Or if you're studying the Bible with someone - right - 00:16:40.93\00:16:42.60 it's really not for somebody to just invite your neighbors 00:16:42.80\00:16:44.57 to come. The same thing with many of our Camp Meetings 00:16:44.77\00:16:48.17 and our conferences in our church that are wonderful 00:16:48.37\00:16:49.90 to attend. They're really not designed to bring 00:16:50.11\00:16:52.04 non-religious people. Right. 00:16:52.24\00:16:53.58 And so anyways we had that weekend event. 00:16:53.74\00:16:56.08 Now a lot of people sometimes get intimidated by 00:16:56.48\00:16:59.41 F5 when they hear about these big adventures. 00:16:59.61\00:17:01.68 But I want to clarify that. That weekend because we had 00:17:01.88\00:17:04.19 all kinds of people coming we set up 5 different levels 00:17:04.35\00:17:06.49 of adventures. All right. One for the couch potato. 00:17:06.69\00:17:08.92 Come and hike 5-6 miles, 3 miles, whatever you want. 00:17:10.06\00:17:12.53 The next one was about 12 miles. 00:17:12.73\00:17:14.70 Another one was down all the way to the river and back up. 00:17:14.90\00:17:17.37 Thirty people participated in the rim to rim 00:17:17.57\00:17:20.67 which was just half way which is 23 miles. 00:17:20.87\00:17:22.67 Wow! And 8 people attempted the 48-mile rim to rim to rim 00:17:22.87\00:17:26.74 of which 2 got sick but 6 of us completed that run. 00:17:26.94\00:17:29.58 EXCELLENT! Wow! And when we were done 00:17:29.78\00:17:31.61 people said: "We want more! " 00:17:31.81\00:17:33.58 That's when we thought: "You know what? 00:17:33.78\00:17:35.58 Let's turn this into a ministry 00:17:35.78\00:17:37.82 'cause we can really focus on friendship evangelism. " 00:17:38.02\00:17:40.76 Um-hmm. And a place where you can actually invite 00:17:40.96\00:17:43.19 non-Adventist people - yes - to actually come and be a part 00:17:44.43\00:17:46.13 of something. This is wonderful because you have like you said 00:17:46.33\00:17:50.17 included people that are at different levels of fitness. 00:17:50.37\00:17:53.10 And some just want to do something and get out. 00:17:53.30\00:17:56.57 Because you know you talk about: "Well, 00:17:56.77\00:17:58.97 you have something for the couch potato. " 00:17:59.17\00:18:00.58 And so there are people that: "Yeah... I'll go. " 00:18:00.78\00:18:03.91 Because after a while you have to say to yourself 00:18:04.11\00:18:06.72 "How much... how long can you be a couch potato? " 00:18:06.92\00:18:09.78 Eventually you'll listen to the Holy Spirit's voice 00:18:09.98\00:18:12.92 and get off that couch and go out and do something. 00:18:13.12\00:18:15.16 So this is wonderful. And so we kind of have heard you 00:18:15.36\00:18:18.86 already but can you tell us what the goal... What is the 00:18:19.49\00:18:23.33 goal? It appears to be it's not just health. 00:18:23.53\00:18:27.17 But also how would you put it in a nutshell? 00:18:27.37\00:18:31.07 The ministry is all about friendship evangelism. 00:18:31.27\00:18:34.31 Years ago I discovered how powerful friendship evangelism 00:18:35.18\00:18:38.05 is, and I wanted to share a quick story. 00:18:38.25\00:18:39.71 I like to join the local running groups in my city. 00:18:40.65\00:18:42.98 And sometimes when I go there's always a new person 00:18:43.18\00:18:44.85 who kind of showed up for the first time. They don't really 00:18:45.05\00:18:46.72 know anyone. So I like to go towards those people. 00:18:46.92\00:18:49.19 There was a young man, and his name was Charlie Rocket. 00:18:49.39\00:18:53.50 And he was a very fast runner. 00:18:53.90\00:18:55.30 One of the things that every runner wants to do 00:18:55.50\00:18:57.20 is become a faster runner. 00:18:57.40\00:18:58.73 No runner ever said: "You know what? I'm too fast. " 00:18:58.80\00:19:00.94 Everybody wants to be able to run faster or run longer. 00:19:01.34\00:19:03.57 So I said: "Charlie, will you help me to become 00:19:03.97\00:19:05.61 a faster runner? " Oh wow! 00:19:05.81\00:19:07.14 And so we quickly became friends. 00:19:07.24\00:19:08.58 Anyways I said: "You know we're going hiking. " 00:19:08.94\00:19:10.91 And I invited him to go hiking with me with my church group. 00:19:11.11\00:19:13.98 But because of the timing and the location 00:19:14.38\00:19:16.62 I went on a whim and I said: 00:19:16.82\00:19:18.99 "You know what? It'd be easier if you came to church with me 00:19:19.19\00:19:21.06 and then go hiking. " 00:19:21.26\00:19:22.59 And he agreed. Oh, wonderful! 00:19:22.96\00:19:24.59 Not too long afterward he sent me this e-mail: 00:19:24.79\00:19:27.10 "A dear and wonderful friend of mine who's not even in the 00:19:27.50\00:19:29.86 church recommended that I confess to you 00:19:30.07\00:19:31.50 the depression that I can't work through. 00:19:31.70\00:19:33.20 Training and helping people being the encouraging coach 00:19:33.40\00:19:35.84 is probably the only thing that is keeping me sane. 00:19:36.04\00:19:37.94 While I know I can help you succeed 00:19:38.34\00:19:39.81 I am fighting a mental illness that admitting 00:19:40.01\00:19:41.71 would even shame my wife. 00:19:41.91\00:19:43.65 I can't help you if I'm not a model for your own success. 00:19:43.85\00:19:46.21 I want to support you so much. 00:19:46.41\00:19:48.08 I've been bragging to my friends how I met this wonderful 00:19:48.28\00:19:50.02 individual whose life I can help change. 00:19:50.22\00:19:51.95 I think I need to be in your church. 00:19:52.35\00:19:54.36 Wow! Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this. 00:19:54.56\00:19:56.32 The suicide helpline guy was a disaster. 00:19:56.52\00:19:58.76 Can I confide in you without being judged? 00:19:58.96\00:20:01.06 I feel your church and you might be the only ones 00:20:01.46\00:20:03.53 that I can confide in. 00:20:03.73\00:20:05.07 But I don't know where to turn except the church. 00:20:05.10\00:20:06.57 Your congregation - even for one day - helped keep me alive. " 00:20:06.77\00:20:09.87 Wow! "I'm sorry to unload this on you 00:20:10.07\00:20:11.71 because you wanted a running buddy and have inherited 00:20:11.91\00:20:13.71 a suicide. " He was apologizing 00:20:13.91\00:20:16.91 and I was praising God that God allowed me to cross paths 00:20:17.11\00:20:20.05 with this young man who was realizing his need for Jesus 00:20:20.25\00:20:22.92 in his life. And so I just share this story 00:20:23.12\00:20:25.65 to underscore the power of friendship evangelism. Amen! 00:20:25.85\00:20:28.99 And so that's what we're all about. 00:20:29.39\00:20:30.96 Our internal motto... We say internal because we don't 00:20:31.16\00:20:33.19 advertise this publicly... is fitness for witness. 00:20:33.40\00:20:35.76 Using our fitness and our health that God has given us 00:20:36.16\00:20:38.63 to make connections with other people. 00:20:38.83\00:20:41.30 Because the thing is that when you have something in common: 00:20:41.50\00:20:44.31 a shared hobby or passion or even a shared experience 00:20:44.51\00:20:48.04 together it will forge an instant connection. 00:20:48.24\00:20:50.81 That's right. And I found that having something in common 00:20:51.01\00:20:53.42 will bypass cultural barriers - 00:20:53.62\00:20:56.25 yes - age barriers... social, economic, 00:20:56.45\00:20:58.55 all the different barriers and instantly it will form a bond. 00:20:58.75\00:21:02.46 And so that's one of the primary purposes 00:21:02.66\00:21:05.76 of what F5 is all about. 00:21:05.96\00:21:07.90 You have people coming and they're coming because 00:21:08.10\00:21:10.37 they want to go hiking. 00:21:10.57\00:21:11.90 They want to go rock climbing or some of the activities 00:21:11.93\00:21:13.94 that we're doing or biking or stand-up paddle boarding. 00:21:14.14\00:21:17.14 And the thing is when they come 00:21:17.34\00:21:18.74 you know once you are engaging in activity you kind of 00:21:18.94\00:21:21.04 just let down your guard. Yes. 00:21:21.24\00:21:22.58 And I like to think of it as a spiritual Trojan horse. 00:21:22.64\00:21:25.45 OK. We want to disarm people 00:21:25.65\00:21:27.68 'cause they're not coming thinking oh we're going to start 00:21:27.88\00:21:30.25 thumping them over the head with a Bible. Right. 00:21:30.45\00:21:32.39 Now they know we're a Christian organization - 00:21:32.59\00:21:34.52 right - which is why they'll be like: "You know I'm not 00:21:34.72\00:21:36.79 religious but can I come? " And we're like: "Yes! 00:21:36.99\00:21:38.83 Of course, come. " And they come and what they find is 00:21:39.03\00:21:41.56 "You know, these people: they're not drinking. 00:21:41.76\00:21:43.23 They're not gambling. They're not doing these things 00:21:43.43\00:21:45.53 but they're having such a good time! 00:21:45.73\00:21:47.07 Like who are these people? " 00:21:47.10\00:21:48.44 And later I'll share some testimonies 00:21:48.47\00:21:49.80 that come out of our ministry. 00:21:50.11\00:21:52.67 Praise the Lord! You know, Idalia, I was... 00:21:52.87\00:21:55.51 The first... It's like the Lord put all this together 00:21:55.71\00:22:00.22 the first one that you did - Yeah - 00:22:00.42\00:22:01.85 to let you know: "Calvin, this is something 00:22:02.05\00:22:07.19 that transforms lives and you need to move forward 00:22:07.39\00:22:09.66 with this. " I mean, how many did you say 00:22:09.86\00:22:12.19 joined you on the first one? 00:22:12.39\00:22:14.00 So it was five months just word of mouth 00:22:14.20\00:22:16.00 and 110 people showed up at the Grand Canyon. 00:22:16.20\00:22:17.77 So it was word of mouth. There were no posters 00:22:17.97\00:22:19.93 in different places... there were no ads. 00:22:20.14\00:22:21.70 Facebook and some little stuff we're doing on Facebook mostly. 00:22:21.90\00:22:24.91 Excellent! Praise the Lord! 00:22:25.11\00:22:26.44 I'm pretty sure you're asking yourself at home 00:22:26.47\00:22:28.48 "How can I get involved? " Sometimes we feel limited. 00:22:28.68\00:22:32.31 We cannot climb but you know what? 00:22:32.51\00:22:34.68 We can just support an activity by providing water 00:22:34.88\00:22:38.99 or if you have a passion for cooking then 00:22:39.19\00:22:41.82 you can provide the meals. And there's always a place 00:22:42.02\00:22:44.83 for you in God's work - that's right - so don't be discouraged. 00:22:45.03\00:22:48.56 Be encouraged because the Lord is giving you 00:22:48.76\00:22:51.67 a unique opportunity to reach out to people. 00:22:51.87\00:22:54.97 Calvin, what do you think draws people to your ministry 00:22:55.74\00:22:59.41 F5 Challenge? Great question! 00:22:59.61\00:23:01.54 You know, it's because loneliness is an epidemic. 00:23:01.74\00:23:05.15 People are lonely. Today people are tied behind their 00:23:05.35\00:23:07.75 phone screens, computer screens, and people want 00:23:07.95\00:23:10.62 genuine face-to-face connection. Yes! 00:23:10.82\00:23:12.95 I'll share a quick testimony. Please do. 00:23:13.15\00:23:15.32 This former Adventist is now fully committed 00:23:43.89\00:23:46.49 back in the church and now active in ministry. 00:23:46.69\00:23:48.32 I'll share one more testimony. 00:23:48.72\00:23:50.06 "What F5 means to me? A lifeline. 00:23:50.63\00:23:52.99 Initially joining F5 was a fun activity 00:23:53.19\00:23:55.40 adventure group as I enjoy the outdoors 00:23:55.60\00:23:57.17 and this provided a great group to join 00:23:57.37\00:23:58.83 and fun adventures with a Christ-centered attitude. 00:23:59.03\00:24:01.10 This connected me back to wanting and nurturing 00:24:01.50\00:24:03.61 my relationship with God as it had waned for 20+ years. 00:24:03.81\00:24:06.91 Now these adventures have morphed to "evangeliving. " 00:24:07.31\00:24:10.28 It's a word for living a life of evangelism 00:24:10.48\00:24:12.91 which just brings more joy and gratitude 00:24:13.31\00:24:15.28 as I look for ways to serve and brings souls to Christ. " 00:24:15.48\00:24:17.85 Amen! It's just an example of people 00:24:18.05\00:24:20.79 they're just looking for relationships. 00:24:20.99\00:24:22.86 They're not interested in spiritual things 00:24:23.06\00:24:24.69 and at this time it's timing. 00:24:24.89\00:24:26.23 At this time if you start presenting and trying to 00:24:26.26\00:24:28.33 you know thump them over the head with a Bible 00:24:28.53\00:24:29.86 they may not be interested. But they are interested in 00:24:30.00\00:24:31.37 engaging with people, and slowly what we do is 00:24:31.57\00:24:34.57 use this to... I like to think of it like 00:24:34.77\00:24:37.77 a spiritual Trojan horse 00:24:37.97\00:24:39.57 to disarm people. Yes. 00:24:39.77\00:24:42.14 And then once they're down and they're open... 00:24:42.34\00:24:43.81 And you know, there's a Framingham study 00:24:44.01\00:24:46.11 that goes like this: the people that you hang out with - 00:24:46.31\00:24:48.78 the 3 or 4 people that you hang out with - 00:24:48.98\00:24:50.79 there's a 50% chance you're going to become like 00:24:50.99\00:24:52.75 the people you hang out with. 00:24:52.95\00:24:54.29 If you hang out with people who play video games all day, 00:24:54.32\00:24:56.02 there's a change you're going to become a video game player. 00:24:56.22\00:24:57.79 That's right. But you hang out with happy active fit Christians 00:24:57.99\00:25:01.00 who are outdoors having a good time 00:25:01.20\00:25:02.73 there's a good chance that you're going to want to become 00:25:02.93\00:25:05.10 like that. Amen. That's right! That's right! 00:25:05.30\00:25:07.37 This is definitely something that will interest a lot of 00:25:07.57\00:25:11.07 university-age young adults to do. 00:25:11.27\00:25:14.84 And of course, adults alike. It's an activity for everyone. 00:25:15.04\00:25:18.58 And that is the beauty of ministry: 00:25:18.78\00:25:21.38 that you can reach people of different walks of life. 00:25:21.58\00:25:24.89 That's right. One thing I wanted to say also 00:25:25.09\00:25:27.62 is that the Lord has used you to initiate 00:25:27.82\00:25:32.56 this ministry F5 Challenge but also you work as a team. 00:25:32.76\00:25:36.87 It sounds like you become a family... 00:25:37.07\00:25:39.67 an intimate group of people that you're there for each other. 00:25:40.07\00:25:44.44 And there's not a better place that people feel 00:25:44.64\00:25:48.78 you know like "You care about me. " 00:25:48.98\00:25:51.28 "You give me your time. " 00:25:51.48\00:25:52.81 You know, time is more valuable than money at times 00:25:52.85\00:25:55.85 because nobody gives you the time. But here you are 00:25:56.05\00:26:00.06 with this ministry. It's a very personal ministry - 00:26:00.26\00:26:02.79 that's right - so the Lord bless your ministry. 00:26:02.99\00:26:05.43 I'd like to see some pictures. 00:26:05.63\00:26:07.00 We like to see pictures... that's right. 00:26:07.20\00:26:08.53 Great. Yeah, some of these 00:26:08.83\00:26:10.93 are pictures from some of our active events. OK. 00:26:11.13\00:26:13.67 Every year we do one flagship large event 00:26:13.87\00:26:16.20 but almost every month there are events going on. 00:26:16.40\00:26:19.71 So if you go on our Facebook group 00:26:19.91\00:26:21.44 click on events and you'll see events coming. 00:26:21.64\00:26:23.68 This was one of our largest group events. Wow! 00:26:23.88\00:26:25.68 Now, why do people want to come? Another reason why is 00:26:25.88\00:26:28.12 we're going to places like Yosemite Half Dome. 00:26:28.32\00:26:31.09 Lake Tahoe... that's Lake Tahoe. 00:26:31.29\00:26:32.62 Joshua Tree; the Grand Tetons. 00:26:32.65\00:26:35.02 Wow! We go to places that people actually want to go to. 00:26:35.22\00:26:37.56 Yes. When I was a part of ARME Bible Camp 00:26:37.76\00:26:39.76 the way we draw people to come in is with big-name speakers, 00:26:39.96\00:26:42.46 right? People want to hear the speakers. 00:26:42.66\00:26:44.17 Well at our event they're coming because they all want to 00:26:44.37\00:26:46.40 go see Zion National Park. Amen. 00:26:46.60\00:26:49.27 So the place becomes part of the drawing of the attraction. 00:26:49.67\00:26:53.58 The fellowship as well. 00:26:53.78\00:26:55.18 And you have people coming from different aspects 00:26:55.38\00:26:58.75 or different places but they join together 00:26:58.95\00:27:01.62 and then they form a bond. 00:27:01.82\00:27:03.15 They get to know one another 00:27:03.32\00:27:04.65 and the relationship continues after the event. 00:27:04.75\00:27:08.02 You know, we talk a lot about fellowship in the church, right? 00:27:08.22\00:27:10.89 Right. So when you go to a lot of these conferences 00:27:11.09\00:27:13.36 they're wonderful. But you know what you do? 00:27:13.56\00:27:14.90 You sit in seminars all-day long. And if you're social 00:27:15.06\00:27:18.27 when you're in line for meals you might get to meet and talk 00:27:18.47\00:27:20.54 and mingle with people. Right. But if you're not and you're shy 00:27:20.74\00:27:23.07 you may not. What we did is we decided 00:27:23.27\00:27:25.37 let's have less meetings and more interactive activities 00:27:25.57\00:27:28.34 as some of these pictures will highlight 00:27:28.54\00:27:29.88 some of the things that we do at our events 00:27:29.91\00:27:31.68 where before our meetings we do a lot of icebreakers. 00:27:31.88\00:27:35.35 Breaking up into groups you're making friends. 00:27:35.55\00:27:37.95 Yes. Constantly going outdoors and doing things. 00:27:38.15\00:27:42.26 There's nothing like... You go on a hike with people 00:27:42.46\00:27:44.16 you don't know for 2-3 hours 00:27:44.36\00:27:45.69 and you naturally just become friends with each other. Yes. 00:27:45.73\00:27:47.70 So if you come to a F5 event 00:27:47.90\00:27:49.76 you will leave with minimum 10-20, 30 new friends. 00:27:49.96\00:27:52.17 Um-hmm. So do you have? Have you noticed 00:27:52.37\00:27:54.97 in these events that you've participated in 00:27:55.17\00:27:58.77 that as people are walking or running 00:27:58.97\00:28:02.18 they help one another along the way? 00:28:02.38\00:28:04.95 All the time... all the time. 00:28:05.15\00:28:06.48 So glad you asked about this. 00:28:06.51\00:28:07.85 So a young man was invited to come 00:28:08.15\00:28:10.32 who has muscular dystrophy? 00:28:10.52\00:28:12.82 He's in a wheelchair - oh wow - since he was 15 years old. 00:28:13.02\00:28:15.32 So you can imagine how difficult life becomes 00:28:16.22\00:28:17.89 when you're diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. 00:28:18.09\00:28:20.10 He married the woman of his dreams 00:28:20.30\00:28:22.26 and many years later she left him because he was 00:28:22.66\00:28:25.37 no longer the man that she had married. 00:28:25.57\00:28:27.10 And they had a child together. 00:28:27.30\00:28:28.84 And so in his 30's you can imagine 00:28:29.24\00:28:32.34 he was in a very very dark place in his life. Yes. 00:28:32.54\00:28:34.74 He came, and when he came his sister asked before he came 00:28:35.31\00:28:38.11 were there any hikes that we could take him on 00:28:38.31\00:28:40.05 in a wheelchair. And when I looked into it 00:28:40.25\00:28:41.92 at Zion National Park there were some paved trails 00:28:42.12\00:28:44.19 you could take disabled people on. 00:28:44.39\00:28:46.09 But I thought: "Let's do something spectacular for this 00:28:46.49\00:28:48.22 young man. " And I said to my team: 00:28:48.42\00:28:49.99 "What if we take him to the top of Angels Landing? " 00:28:50.19\00:28:52.46 So Angels Landing is one of the most famous hikes 00:28:52.86\00:28:55.20 in the world. Probably one of the top 10 most famous hikes 00:28:55.40\00:28:57.17 but it's also considered one of the top 10 most dangerous 00:28:57.37\00:28:59.07 hikes in the world - oh wow! because 00:28:59.27\00:29:00.60 there are cliffs literally on the side, that drop off. 00:29:00.77\00:29:02.90 Wow! Our team is made up... We've got 00:29:03.10\00:29:04.97 rock climbers, and so you know we said: "Let's take him up 00:29:05.17\00:29:07.48 there. " So we put him in the wheelchair 00:29:07.64\00:29:09.21 and we wheeled him up as far as we could go. 00:29:09.41\00:29:11.31 And once we got to a point where we could no longer 00:29:11.51\00:29:14.12 push him, using harness, ropes, carabiners clipping in 00:29:14.32\00:29:18.22 we carried him. Took turns carrying him all the way 00:29:18.42\00:29:21.12 to the top of Angels Landing. That is marvelous! 00:29:21.32\00:29:23.96 The day before when we were doing our practice 00:29:24.16\00:29:26.59 hike when we took him up to a certain spot 00:29:26.80\00:29:29.03 as soon as we sat him down he just had tears coming down. 00:29:29.23\00:29:32.27 Wow! Because it had been years since 00:29:32.47\00:29:35.00 he ever got to experience something like this. 00:29:35.20\00:29:37.07 We weren't expecting this but it made the news. 00:29:37.27\00:29:39.71 It even made Inside Edition. 00:29:39.91\00:29:41.38 It became a big deal. 00:29:41.58\00:29:43.55 Wow! Now this completely changed his life 00:29:43.75\00:29:46.48 to find that these people cared so much to do this for him. 00:29:47.72\00:29:50.79 Amen! And now he's one of our team members. 00:29:50.99\00:29:52.62 He's active in ministry. Loves the Lord. Amen! 00:29:52.82\00:29:55.56 And even though he can't move well physically 00:29:55.76\00:29:57.86 he knows that he can be used by God 00:29:58.06\00:29:59.69 to move peoples' hearts and minds. Amen! 00:29:59.89\00:30:02.16 And so it's a beautiful story. 00:30:02.36\00:30:03.77 But another thing I want to highlight about the story is 00:30:03.97\00:30:05.60 we had a team of 32 people to accomplish this. 00:30:05.80\00:30:09.00 There are people on our team who have a legitimate fear 00:30:09.40\00:30:11.41 of heights. Oh wow! Yes? 00:30:11.61\00:30:13.51 OK. I mean... even people... there's cliffs on both sides. 00:30:13.71\00:30:16.44 Yes. But you know, during the entire adventure or experience 00:30:16.64\00:30:20.38 I cannot recall one person 00:30:20.58\00:30:22.38 who mentioned or made any comment about their fear 00:30:22.58\00:30:25.09 of height. And why is that? 00:30:25.29\00:30:27.02 It's because everybody was focused on taking Shue 00:30:27.89\00:30:30.33 to the top. 00:30:30.53\00:30:31.86 And you know I think it's just a great analogy 00:30:31.89\00:30:35.26 for our Christian walk. Um-hmm. 00:30:35.46\00:30:36.80 You know, we're inundated with worries and anxiety. 00:30:36.90\00:30:39.33 But when we focus our attention on helping others 00:30:39.53\00:30:41.70 reach heaven, so many of the things that we worry about 00:30:41.90\00:30:45.27 are so trivial and insignificant 00:30:45.47\00:30:47.18 that we can forget about them. 00:30:47.38\00:30:48.81 So the focus I think is helping others to reach their goals. 00:30:49.01\00:30:52.48 You know, this is wonderful. You mentioned that 00:30:52.68\00:30:54.88 people that are not necessarily Christians or Adventists - 00:30:55.08\00:30:58.85 SDAs - join you and they go ahead and participate 00:30:59.05\00:31:04.86 in this even though they know I'm participating 00:31:05.06\00:31:07.20 with a Christian group of people. 00:31:07.40\00:31:09.00 So it's not like they are going to say: "I had no idea 00:31:09.20\00:31:12.40 you guys were going to talk about Jesus Christ. 00:31:12.60\00:31:14.14 I'm just disappointed. " But no... they are aware. 00:31:14.34\00:31:17.51 They know about this but they still come. 00:31:17.71\00:31:19.34 Yes. I'll tell you about one gal. She's a dentist. 00:31:19.54\00:31:22.14 She just saw the story on the news and she went: 00:31:22.34\00:31:24.51 "Who are these people? I want to be a part of them. " Awesome! 00:31:24.71\00:31:26.95 And then she actually came to one of our main events. 00:31:27.15\00:31:29.25 And sometimes she'll message me 00:31:29.45\00:31:30.79 because she's got health problems and she'll be asking me 00:31:30.99\00:31:32.55 for prayer and I share it with the team. 00:31:32.75\00:31:34.22 And so it's incredible just the people who want to be a part 00:31:34.42\00:31:37.03 of this. So what's the best part of F5? 00:31:37.33\00:31:39.83 Hands down it's the relationships. 00:31:40.80\00:31:43.16 Yes. You know, you could give me a free first-class ticket 00:31:43.37\00:31:46.47 to Fiji by myself - um-hmm. 00:31:46.67\00:31:48.24 I'd rather be in the desert with all my friends. 00:31:48.44\00:31:50.54 Right? Oh yes. And so it's really the relationships. 00:31:50.74\00:31:53.44 Coming together and having a mission together. 00:31:53.64\00:31:56.48 Something greater than just serving ourselves. 00:31:56.68\00:31:59.41 Right? This world is all about me, me, me 00:31:59.61\00:32:01.98 and here we're coming together. 00:32:02.18\00:32:03.52 And so you know in addition to these adventures 00:32:03.55\00:32:05.69 we do mission trips. Yes! Peru. One of our teams just 00:32:05.89\00:32:09.52 did a whole thing on health for a Camp Meeting. 00:32:09.72\00:32:12.26 And so we do a lot of different activities. 00:32:12.46\00:32:14.53 The overall big picture is we want to use the blessings 00:32:14.73\00:32:18.13 that God has given us to be a blessing to others. 00:32:18.33\00:32:20.94 In Desire of Ages, it says speaking of Jesus: 00:32:21.10\00:32:23.41 "From His earliest years, He was possessed of one purpose: 00:32:23.61\00:32:26.51 He lived to bless others. " Yes! 00:32:26.71\00:32:28.68 And as followers of Jesus that's our purpose in life: 00:32:28.88\00:32:31.11 to be a blessing to other people. Yes! 00:32:31.31\00:32:33.05 I want to read one quote from the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:32:33.25\00:32:35.38 Please do. From Evangelism page 122.4. It says: 00:32:35.58\00:32:39.39 And when I came across this I said: "Wow! " 00:32:50.67\00:32:52.50 This is what F5 was. We hadn't planned this to be a ministry. 00:32:52.70\00:32:55.17 But you know what? It's kind of different and out 00:32:55.37\00:32:57.61 of the common course of things. 00:32:57.77\00:32:59.74 Another quote that I really love about Jesus' methods 00:32:59.94\00:33:03.18 'cause He was a master evangelist. 00:33:03.38\00:33:04.71 He knew how to reach people, right? That's right. 00:33:04.85\00:33:06.41 And it says: "Jesus found access to minds 00:33:06.61\00:33:08.98 by the pathway of the most familiar associations. 00:33:09.18\00:33:12.19 He disturbed as little as possible 00:33:12.39\00:33:14.06 their accustomed train of thoughts by abrupt actions 00:33:14.26\00:33:16.52 or prescribed rules. He honored man with His 00:33:16.73\00:33:18.86 confidence and thus placed him on his honor. " 00:33:19.06\00:33:21.53 Just not too long ago 00:33:21.73\00:33:23.60 I was at the recycling place throwing my cardboard. 00:33:23.80\00:33:25.80 There was a man with a Boston Marathon finisher's jacket. 00:33:26.00\00:33:29.47 Oh! I knew exactly what that jacket meant. 00:33:29.67\00:33:31.57 It meant he finished the Boston Marathon. Right. 00:33:31.77\00:33:33.34 And I just walked by and I said: "Hey, 00:33:33.54\00:33:35.04 great job on the Boston Marathon. " 00:33:35.24\00:33:37.01 He lit up - of course - 00:33:37.21\00:33:38.91 and instantly he was like my best friend sharing stories. 00:33:39.11\00:33:41.65 That's all it took. We had some- thing in common. That's right. 00:33:41.85\00:33:43.92 And at the end I had a Great Controversy in my car. 00:33:44.12\00:33:46.96 It's one of my favorite books to hand out. 00:33:47.16\00:33:48.49 I handed this book to him. I'll probably never see him again 00:33:48.52\00:33:50.23 but who knows? We made a connection. 00:33:50.43\00:33:52.23 I got to give him a Great Controversy. 00:33:52.43\00:33:53.76 Who knows? Only in heaven will we know. 00:33:53.83\00:33:56.36 That's right. Ours is just to sow seeds 00:33:56.56\00:33:58.43 and share the love of Jesus. Um-hmm! 00:33:58.63\00:33:59.97 So the 5F Challenge... Maybe somebody has just joined 00:34:00.10\00:34:03.71 in and they're "Wow! What is this F5 00:34:03.91\00:34:05.71 when we hear F5? " Can you tell us again what F5 is. 00:34:05.91\00:34:09.71 So... the five F's. 00:34:09.91\00:34:12.05 So the first F is faith. 00:34:12.45\00:34:14.28 Second is fellowship. 00:34:14.48\00:34:15.88 Fitness, fortitude, and fun. 00:34:16.28\00:34:19.12 It's easy to remember because the second letter is a vowel: 00:34:19.32\00:34:20.89 A, E, I, O, U. 00:34:21.09\00:34:22.42 So it correlates with the spiritual, which is 00:34:22.46\00:34:24.09 most important. Emotional... fellowship. 00:34:24.29\00:34:26.83 That's what fellowship does. Yes. 00:34:27.03\00:34:28.76 And then fitness... our physical wellbeing. 00:34:28.96\00:34:31.13 Fortitude... we want to challenge people 00:34:31.53\00:34:34.20 to get out of that status quo. Right? Yes. 00:34:34.40\00:34:36.67 And that's what happens when people come to the event. 00:34:36.87\00:34:38.21 They may be a couch potato but they're seeing people 00:34:38.41\00:34:40.18 literally running through the night doing a 48-mile run. 00:34:40.38\00:34:42.74 And they might not shoot for that, but they might 00:34:42.94\00:34:44.35 be like: "You know what? Next time maybe I'll shoot for 00:34:44.55\00:34:46.38 the 10-mile hike. " Yes... right. 00:34:46.58\00:34:47.92 And so we want to inspire people. 00:34:48.08\00:34:49.42 And then the last one is social. So that's fun. 00:34:49.45\00:34:53.15 You know, God created us to be social. 00:34:53.36\00:34:55.09 And so one of the things when you come to our events 00:34:55.29\00:34:56.73 is we want to have a fun time 00:34:56.93\00:34:58.43 but use that for the purpose of winning souls. 00:34:58.63\00:35:01.33 That's right. Praise the Lord! 00:35:01.53\00:35:02.86 Do you have more pictures to share with us? 00:35:03.16\00:35:05.30 Yeah, let's pull up some more pictures that we have on there. 00:35:05.50\00:35:08.30 So, after we took him - Shue - on the Zion hike... 00:35:08.50\00:35:13.84 Yes? We took him on his first half marathon. 00:35:14.04\00:35:16.85 And we took someone else who had muscular dystrophy? 00:35:17.05\00:35:19.05 I like to think we could become like the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 00:35:19.25\00:35:22.05 Make peoples' adventure dreams come true. 00:35:22.25\00:35:24.92 And when Shue asked: "Hey, I'd like to go rock climbing. " 00:35:25.12\00:35:27.96 Well if you want to go rock climbing, the most famous place 00:35:28.16\00:35:31.23 to go rock climbing in the world is El Capitan. 00:35:31.43\00:35:33.23 So we said: "Let's take him to El Capitan. " 00:35:33.43\00:35:35.30 And so we climbed about 500' of El Capitan with him 00:35:35.50\00:35:38.33 and we had a special electric ascend. Obviously 00:35:38.53\00:35:40.30 we can't physically... It's kind of hard to climb with him. 00:35:40.50\00:35:42.64 We had a special electric ascendive device 00:35:42.84\00:35:45.07 that we used to haul him up there 00:35:45.27\00:35:46.84 and so we gave him... And it's breathtaking! 00:35:47.04\00:35:48.68 When you're on El Cap - yes! the famous rock 00:35:48.88\00:35:50.71 and just seeing... It was one of the most incredible experiences. 00:35:50.91\00:35:53.85 You know what? I love rock climbing, 00:35:54.05\00:35:55.88 but there's something special about giving somebody else 00:35:56.08\00:35:58.59 who would never be able to have the opportunity. 00:35:58.99\00:36:01.42 That's right! An unforgettable experience 00:36:01.62\00:36:04.16 for a person like that. Yes. 00:36:04.36\00:36:06.43 Well... I was going to say 00:36:06.63\00:36:09.40 when we help those that cannot help themselves 00:36:09.60\00:36:13.10 it is so rewarding to our faith, to our daily walk. 00:36:13.60\00:36:19.07 And you know, there are folks that just cannot do it. 00:36:19.27\00:36:22.51 It may not be that they want to go up El Capitan 00:36:22.71\00:36:26.45 but that they just need... Their needs are so 00:36:26.65\00:36:30.55 peculiar. So please: let's take time to 00:36:30.75\00:36:33.76 know the people around us and let's be humble 00:36:33.96\00:36:36.93 and ask the Lord to use us to serve and fulfill the needs 00:36:37.13\00:36:40.86 of the people around us. 00:36:41.06\00:36:42.46 Because that is ready and well available to everyone. 00:36:42.66\00:36:46.67 So these pictures... you know a picture says a million words. 00:36:47.07\00:36:51.61 Right? So these experiences really are heart-moving. 00:36:51.81\00:36:55.64 Now what are the biggest challenges that F5 faces 00:36:56.18\00:37:01.32 as a ministry? I'm so glad you asked. 00:37:01.52\00:37:02.85 So the best way to join F5 is to join the Facebook group. 00:37:03.42\00:37:06.05 It's called F5 Challenge members 00:37:06.25\00:37:07.82 and you press if you want to join. 00:37:08.02\00:37:09.62 And anyone is welcome to join. 00:37:09.82\00:37:11.69 Um-hmm. And it's really for all ages. 00:37:11.89\00:37:13.90 We have one 2-year-old little baby kid coming with 00:37:14.10\00:37:16.63 their family. It doesn't matter what age you are 00:37:16.83\00:37:18.97 since we want to be all things to all people. 00:37:19.17\00:37:21.40 Yes. But the big challenge is when someone joins 00:37:21.60\00:37:23.67 a lot of Seventh-day Adventists grew up in a bubble 00:37:23.87\00:37:25.57 where all their friends were Seventh-day Adventists. Yeah. 00:37:25.77\00:37:28.44 You see this very commonly because you know what? 00:37:28.84\00:37:31.11 You'll see people posting on their Facebook wall 00:37:31.31\00:37:33.65 as if all their friends are Seventh-day Adventist. 00:37:33.85\00:37:36.65 That's right. But that's not the case. That's right. 00:37:36.85\00:37:38.25 When you post something on Facebook you need to be 00:37:38.45\00:37:39.79 very careful because you may have a co-worker 00:37:39.99\00:37:41.86 or a relative who's not Seventh-day Adventist 00:37:42.06\00:37:43.83 and they're reading what you're writing. That's true. 00:37:44.03\00:37:45.73 And so the thing is that 00:37:45.93\00:37:47.30 we want to feel gracious with people. 00:37:47.50\00:37:49.36 And you know, today we live in such a divisive world. 00:37:49.56\00:37:52.23 Satan is good... he's been doing it since 00:37:52.43\00:37:54.40 the beginning: divide and conquer. 00:37:54.60\00:37:55.94 I mean there are so many divisive issues 00:37:56.14\00:37:58.04 that when you post your position on a certain topic 00:37:58.24\00:38:01.01 you may gain favor with 50% of your friends 00:38:01.21\00:38:03.68 and the other 50% you just lost credibility with them. 00:38:03.88\00:38:06.11 Exactly. So one of my biggest things is 00:38:06.31\00:38:08.42 trying to get people to under- stand about how to be engaged 00:38:08.62\00:38:11.19 in friendship evangelism. 00:38:11.39\00:38:12.72 So one of the challenges is they just come on 00:38:12.75\00:38:14.82 and they just assume that we're an SDA group 00:38:15.02\00:38:16.89 and everybody's Seventh-day Adventist. 00:38:17.09\00:38:18.43 I like to tell people we're like Pathfinders for all ages. 00:38:18.59\00:38:21.23 That's right! BUT when they come on there and they're posting 00:38:21.43\00:38:24.87 comments and stuff - uh huh - and you know we as SDA's 00:38:25.07\00:38:27.80 have a beautiful sub culture but it's a strong sub culture. 00:38:28.00\00:38:31.61 Oh yeah. And so the thing is 00:38:31.81\00:38:33.24 some of us don't realize that. 00:38:33.44\00:38:35.64 And sometimes we can come across looking pretty strange and weird 00:38:35.84\00:38:39.21 to the rest of the world. 00:38:39.41\00:38:40.75 That's right. Sometimes we have to delete comments - 00:38:40.82\00:38:42.58 yes - which would be totally normal amongst us - right - 00:38:42.78\00:38:46.05 but you know when we've got... On our Facebook group 00:38:46.25\00:38:48.76 I'm inviting my friends who are rock climbers from the gym 00:38:48.96\00:38:51.29 and my running group 'cause I'm taking them on adventures. 00:38:51.49\00:38:53.43 They want to be on the group because they want to see 00:38:53.63\00:38:55.26 the pictures afterward - yes - and they make friends. 00:38:55.46\00:38:57.07 Right. You know, I've got friends. Before joining F5 00:38:57.27\00:39:00.60 they may have never known a single Seventh-day Adventist. 00:39:00.80\00:39:02.54 There's a gal I met in the airport. 00:39:02.94\00:39:04.84 She overheard me talking. 00:39:05.04\00:39:06.91 She came up to me and started talking. 00:39:07.11\00:39:08.54 And we connected instantly because we were both into 00:39:08.74\00:39:10.75 triathlon. She's been to a number of our events. 00:39:10.95\00:39:13.72 Amen! And the thing is she's got 20, 30 SDA friends. 00:39:13.92\00:39:18.42 That's wonderful! That's great! Yes! 00:39:18.62\00:39:20.56 However, sometimes we may say things. 00:39:20.76\00:39:22.79 And so my thing is is when I get a platform 00:39:22.99\00:39:24.66 like being here which is a HUGE blessing 00:39:24.86\00:39:26.80 where I can really share with an audience 00:39:27.00\00:39:29.10 to let them know what F5 is really about... 'cause I cannot 00:39:29.30\00:39:31.27 share this on our Facebook group - right - 00:39:31.47\00:39:33.03 because we've got all these people who are non-believers 00:39:33.23\00:39:35.04 on there. That's right. And so the thing is 00:39:35.24\00:39:37.17 that we don't want them to know it. 00:39:37.37\00:39:39.67 Like for example, a well- meaning SDA might put on there 00:39:39.87\00:39:41.94 Fitness for Witness. I'm like No, No, No... 00:39:42.14\00:39:44.01 that's our internal motto. 00:39:44.21\00:39:45.55 That's not what we advertise publicly. 00:39:45.58\00:39:47.22 First and foremost, it's all about making connections. 00:39:47.42\00:39:50.95 Right. And so that's one of the things. 00:39:51.15\00:39:52.85 And we want everyone to know 'cause from the outside 00:39:53.05\00:39:55.52 some people think this is just a group of SDA's 00:39:55.72\00:39:57.89 who just get together and all they do is have fun. 00:39:58.09\00:39:59.86 Um-hmm. You know what I mean? Right. 00:40:00.06\00:40:01.43 But we have a deeper purpose than just having fun - 00:40:01.63\00:40:03.67 That's right - for the purpose of making connections. 00:40:03.87\00:40:06.23 So I'll share an example of a testimony. 00:40:06.63\00:40:08.90 Please do. This gal... she was just a climber in my gym. 00:40:09.10\00:40:11.97 A rock climber. And I invited her to come 00:40:12.17\00:40:14.48 with us to one of our big events. 00:40:14.68\00:40:18.45 Now she was driving with us. We had a long road trip 00:40:18.65\00:40:21.18 and within just a few hours of course the conversation 00:40:21.38\00:40:25.15 turned into between her and one of our very well-meaning 00:40:25.35\00:40:27.56 members about why you should eat meat and why you shouldn't 00:40:27.76\00:40:30.23 eat meat. Now can you imagine? 00:40:30.43\00:40:32.26 I'm just kind of like: "Uhhh. " 00:40:32.46\00:40:34.60 You know, when you give someone Bible studies 00:40:34.80\00:40:36.83 which is something I'm passionate about doing 00:40:37.03\00:40:38.37 that's a topic we talk about towards the end, right? Right. 00:40:38.50\00:40:41.34 NOT one of the first topics. 00:40:41.54\00:40:43.27 But you know it's a topic that you know 00:40:43.47\00:40:45.87 our church often with good intentions 00:40:46.07\00:40:49.64 you know gravitates towards quickly. Right. 00:40:49.84\00:40:51.38 And I'm just literally like wanting to just disappear 00:40:51.58\00:40:54.12 in my chair, you know what I mean? Yes. But anyway, 00:40:54.32\00:40:55.85 she had a great time. 00:40:56.05\00:40:57.59 She came back to another event and then she just sent me this 00:40:57.79\00:41:00.26 message. And she said: 00:41:00.46\00:41:01.79 Praise the Lord! And like this just sums it up. 00:41:27.08\00:41:29.12 You know, it would be very difficult for me to say this 00:41:29.32\00:41:31.49 to somebody in my rock climbing gym: "How would you like to go 00:41:31.69\00:41:33.32 to church with me? " Exactly. You like people to go church... 00:41:33.52\00:41:35.62 especially where I come from in the Northwest 00:41:35.82\00:41:37.73 it's a very secular area. 00:41:37.93\00:41:39.39 Right. As soon as they know you're a Christian, sometimes 00:41:39.59\00:41:41.96 there is already kind of this guard up there, right? 00:41:42.16\00:41:44.77 But instead: "Hey, come out and have fun with us. " 00:41:45.17\00:41:47.07 'Cause I had invited her to go hiking 00:41:47.27\00:41:48.70 and so she had warmed up. She came to our event 00:41:48.90\00:41:50.61 and so you know... 00:41:50.81\00:41:52.17 That's right. This just kind of sums up. 00:41:52.37\00:41:53.71 Is F5 Challenge one event a year and that's it? 00:41:54.71\00:41:59.98 Or is there more? 00:42:00.18\00:42:01.52 Our main flagship event is once a year. 00:42:01.55\00:42:04.02 It's usually towards the end of the Summer 00:42:04.22\00:42:05.82 or beginning of the Fall but every month we have events. 00:42:06.02\00:42:08.86 OK. And any member can put on their own event. 00:42:09.06\00:42:11.76 For example let's just say you join. 00:42:11.96\00:42:14.33 And you go: "You know, I'm going to be backpacking 00:42:14.53\00:42:15.93 in Yosemite for 3 days. Who wants to come join me? " 00:42:16.13\00:42:18.30 And you can set it up right on our Facebook group 00:42:18.50\00:42:19.83 'cause you just click a tab. Any member can. 00:42:20.04\00:42:22.60 So there's local events coming on. There's big events 00:42:22.80\00:42:25.17 coming on. There's mission trips going on. 00:42:25.37\00:42:26.78 We do service activities. 00:42:26.98\00:42:28.71 What we want to do is because on our FaceBook group 00:42:28.91\00:42:31.25 there's about probably about 4,800 members. 00:42:31.45\00:42:33.65 Wow! We want this to be a platform. 00:42:33.85\00:42:35.88 So like Build and Restore Intl. I know they've been on here 00:42:36.08\00:42:38.32 interviewed. Where they need people for their mission trips 00:42:38.52\00:42:40.89 they advertise on our group and say: "Hey look! " 00:42:41.09\00:42:43.39 So we want to have... Let's mobilize these young adults 00:42:43.79\00:42:48.16 who are healthy and happy and who want to use their gifts 00:42:48.36\00:42:52.23 that God has given them for service. Um-hmm. 00:42:52.43\00:42:54.47 And so that's another thing that we want to do with our 00:42:54.67\00:42:56.00 ministry is a surplus of people who can go on mission trips? 00:42:56.04\00:42:59.84 Idalia said something earlier that I'd like for our... 00:43:00.04\00:43:03.35 those that are listening to consider. You know 00:43:03.55\00:43:06.85 this... your group, they have a passion for the outdoors 00:43:07.05\00:43:11.29 and climbing and hiking and even running. 00:43:11.49\00:43:17.03 But perhaps somebody that is listening 00:43:17.23\00:43:21.36 has a passion for another area. 00:43:21.56\00:43:23.60 And she said: "You can turn that into ministry. " 00:43:23.80\00:43:26.60 So ask the Lord how you can turn that which you like to do 00:43:26.80\00:43:30.14 into a ministry. Because you put that quote 00:43:30.34\00:43:34.28 and you read it that said that we need to find new, 00:43:34.48\00:43:38.71 unusual, and unique ways to reach out to others. 00:43:38.91\00:43:41.98 And F5 Challenge is something unique 00:43:42.18\00:43:45.42 but it's for everyone. So you don't have... is it? 00:43:45.62\00:43:48.82 It's not only for single people? 00:43:49.12\00:43:50.53 It's for everybody, is that right? It's for all ages. 00:43:50.93\00:43:53.29 All ages. Now we get a lot of single people coming 00:43:53.50\00:43:55.86 'cause it's a great way for the single adults to meet 00:43:56.06\00:43:57.77 other single people. We've even had couples get married! 00:43:57.97\00:44:00.47 Yeah, what a great place! Know what I mean? 00:44:00.67\00:44:03.20 So it's not a singles only and it's not a singles retreat 00:44:03.41\00:44:05.71 but we definitely get a lot of singles who are coming. 00:44:05.91\00:44:07.74 I love what you said because 00:44:07.94\00:44:09.28 you know some people love quilting. 00:44:09.31\00:44:10.95 They love gardening. 00:44:11.35\00:44:12.68 So find what you love to do 00:44:12.71\00:44:14.68 and use that to connect with people. 00:44:14.88\00:44:16.65 So I just love how you underscored that. 00:44:16.85\00:44:18.52 Amen! Amen! Well, what is the best way to get involved? 00:44:18.72\00:44:22.82 The best way: One is you can check out our website 00:44:23.22\00:44:26.19 which is F5Challenge.org - OK - 00:44:26.39\00:44:28.63 but the best way really is just join our Facebook group. 00:44:28.83\00:44:31.30 Now I understand some people are not on Facebook group 00:44:31.70\00:44:33.84 but we found Facebook group to be the best because it's very 00:44:34.04\00:44:35.84 interactive. People can go to an event & then post their pictures 00:44:36.04\00:44:39.24 and then the friends that they met are commenting. 00:44:39.44\00:44:41.78 And you can constantly see your friends that you met 00:44:41.98\00:44:44.21 and stay in touch through Facebook 00:44:44.41\00:44:45.88 and the next time you go too. 00:44:46.08\00:44:47.65 There are some people who have told me the only reason why 00:44:47.85\00:44:49.98 they're on Facebook is because of F5 Challenge. 00:44:50.19\00:44:52.12 Look at that! 'Cause so much of what's on social media is 00:44:52.32\00:44:55.16 negative. Right. You get constant complaining 00:44:55.36\00:44:58.19 and divisive issues. Yes. When you go on our F5 Challenge 00:44:58.39\00:45:00.86 there's nothing but positivity. Excellent! 00:45:01.06\00:45:02.80 We don't talk about the things that are divisive. 00:45:03.00\00:45:04.57 It's all about fitness... encouraging one another. 00:45:04.77\00:45:07.20 People put up inspiring stories. 00:45:07.40\00:45:09.54 And so it encourages people, yeah. That's wonderful. 00:45:09.74\00:45:13.88 Where do you see your ministry let's say in five years? 00:45:14.08\00:45:18.15 You know just recently it's really starting to take off 00:45:18.35\00:45:20.72 with people and so we want to continue doing this. 00:45:20.92\00:45:23.65 We love the mission projects aspects of this. 00:45:23.85\00:45:26.49 There's so much need out there. 00:45:26.69\00:45:28.16 There are people who are struggling, 00:45:28.36\00:45:29.92 and so even on a one-day project we'll go to someone's house 00:45:30.13\00:45:32.79 and just help them. And so we want to continue to see this 00:45:32.99\00:45:35.86 growing and we want to see it growing in other parts of the 00:45:36.06\00:45:38.03 world as well. It's starting to pop up in other places 00:45:38.23\00:45:40.50 of the world. OK. So you have your European chapter? 00:45:40.70\00:45:44.04 Your different chapters of the ministry? 00:45:44.24\00:45:46.78 All over the world. Exactly. 00:45:46.98\00:45:48.31 So you say we... how many people form like a core group 00:45:48.44\00:45:52.61 of team members that are part of the organizing 00:45:52.81\00:45:55.58 and planning for these events? OK. 00:45:55.78\00:45:58.49 We have a team of about 25-30 on our team. 00:45:59.12\00:46:01.82 And we have a board; we're a legitimate 501c3. 00:46:02.02\00:46:05.06 I stepped down last November. I've got so much on my plate 00:46:05.26\00:46:08.90 so I'm on the board and I work with the new director. 00:46:09.10\00:46:11.67 We have a new director, Rolando Fulgencio, 00:46:11.87\00:46:13.64 who's doing an amazing job. 00:46:13.84\00:46:15.17 And the thing is: after being a director for 5 years 00:46:15.24\00:46:17.27 sometimes it's good to have new leadership come in. Yes! 00:46:17.47\00:46:19.24 So while I'm still actively in- volved, he's got amazing vision. 00:46:19.44\00:46:23.24 And now what he's done is he's brought in a whole 00:46:23.45\00:46:25.81 new set of leaders to join our existing team. 00:46:26.01\00:46:29.08 Excellent. And so right now we're in the works, 00:46:29.28\00:46:30.75 and I don't know what the exact number is, but our team 00:46:30.95\00:46:32.59 has probably almost doubled or tripled at this point. 00:46:32.79\00:46:35.59 Amen! Because there's something about when you bring someone in 00:46:35.79\00:46:39.23 and they have buy-in and they're part of the team - 00:46:39.43\00:46:42.30 leadership team - they're more active. 00:46:42.50\00:46:44.60 And so yeah, we're excited about the future. 00:46:44.80\00:46:46.87 You've had so many activities and meetings. 00:46:47.07\00:46:50.81 So many folks. There has to be one that stands out the most. 00:46:51.07\00:46:57.05 Not your favorite but one that has marked your life. 00:46:57.25\00:47:00.18 Which one has that been? 00:47:00.38\00:47:03.02 Hands down for me it was the Zion National Park 00:47:03.22\00:47:06.02 adventure. OK. Not only was it the most beautiful place 00:47:06.22\00:47:09.46 to be and the people had such an amazing experience. 00:47:09.66\00:47:11.73 It was really... I've been on a lot of incredible adventures, 00:47:11.93\00:47:14.70 and of all the adventures that I've done there was nothing 00:47:15.96\00:47:19.73 like taking Shue to the top of Angels Landing. Wow! 00:47:19.93\00:47:22.30 The people in the park had mostly all heard about it 00:47:22.50\00:47:25.91 and it was just abuzz. We weren't expecting this. 00:47:26.11\00:47:28.84 Just a funny story. You know, the tourists there 00:47:29.04\00:47:32.68 are seeing this, right? Yes. I mean it's crazy. 00:47:32.88\00:47:34.88 we're literally carrying... They're getting out of the way 00:47:35.08\00:47:36.82 and we're carrying him all the way to the top. 00:47:37.02\00:47:38.65 You've gotta imagine how much work that is. 00:47:38.85\00:47:40.19 Yes. Every 500 ft. or so... 00:47:40.36\00:47:41.86 300 ft. we'd swap and take turns. 00:47:42.06\00:47:44.09 And so the people are seeing this. Now 00:47:44.29\00:47:46.43 one of our directors was getting married the next week. 00:47:46.63\00:47:48.96 OK. So I told him: "Why don't you bring your 00:47:49.16\00:47:52.07 tuxedo and your wedding outfit 00:47:52.27\00:47:53.60 and go to the top and take wedding pictures? " 00:47:53.64\00:47:54.97 Which they did. And so I heard the rumor was 00:47:55.07\00:47:57.41 "there's a wedding at the top of Zion National Park 00:47:57.61\00:48:00.64 and their friends had to get their disabled friend to the top 00:48:00.84\00:48:03.61 to get to the wedding. " That was fun! 00:48:03.81\00:48:05.71 But the thing is truly that was life-changing for a lot of us. 00:48:05.91\00:48:08.62 Yes. That was the most amazing experience 00:48:08.82\00:48:11.39 for me personally. Amen! Amen! How encouraging! 00:48:11.59\00:48:14.16 How encouraging! Well I do pray God's blessing 00:48:14.36\00:48:19.53 over your ministry and I pray for you at home as well. 00:48:19.73\00:48:23.40 I know you want to be used by the Lord 00:48:23.80\00:48:25.63 and what a privilege to be able to listen to how the Lord 00:48:25.83\00:48:29.80 is using a peculiar ministry, a peculiar way of reaching 00:48:30.01\00:48:33.31 to others and fulfill the needs... not only physical 00:48:33.51\00:48:37.25 but emotional and mental and spiritual needs 00:48:37.45\00:48:41.62 of those around us. 00:48:41.82\00:48:43.79 And those that we have not met yet, right? That's right. 00:48:43.99\00:48:47.29 So the Lord will bring those people to your group. 00:48:47.49\00:48:50.93 The important thing is to have a purpose. 00:48:51.13\00:48:53.19 That's right. And we're going to share the contact information 00:48:53.40\00:48:56.20 for the F5 Challenge group in a moment, so please get ready. 00:48:56.40\00:48:59.93 As I said before if you don't have a pen or something 00:49:00.14\00:49:02.84 or if your pen all of a sudden fails, try to get your phone 00:49:03.04\00:49:05.74 or something and take a picture of the screen if you can. 00:49:05.94\00:49:08.54 But there are people listening on radio, so we encourage you 00:49:08.74\00:49:11.31 to record... you can even record what we are saying 00:49:11.51\00:49:14.65 so that you can have the information you need 00:49:14.85\00:49:17.02 to get in touch with the F5 Challenge and participate 00:49:17.22\00:49:21.86 and encourage people to do something like this. 00:49:22.26\00:49:25.83 This is marvelous. And you even said that 00:49:26.03\00:49:29.00 members can organize their own event. 00:49:29.20\00:49:32.47 Have you seen that happening? All the time! 00:49:32.67\00:49:34.64 All the time? You know, we have two types of people, right? 00:49:34.84\00:49:36.84 Some people are just naturally leaders - 00:49:37.04\00:49:38.44 right - but the majority are followers. 00:49:38.64\00:49:40.21 But the ones who lead set up an event 00:49:40.41\00:49:42.68 and they'll do it over and over again. 00:49:42.88\00:49:44.21 And it's fun. It's very rewarding to set up an event 00:49:44.38\00:49:46.28 and have people come. And so, yeah... 00:49:46.48\00:49:48.88 And we are all about mentoring other people 00:49:49.08\00:49:50.92 and encouraging them. And sometimes they just need 00:49:51.12\00:49:52.59 to be asked. Like: "Hey, why don't you do this? " 00:49:52.79\00:49:54.72 "Why don't you lead a group and go do this? " 00:49:54.92\00:49:56.49 And all of a sudden: "Oh, I was asked! " 00:49:56.69\00:49:58.69 Yes!. And they're inspired to do that. Excellent! 00:50:00.63\00:50:01.96 This is marvelous! This is a wonderful opportunity 00:50:02.00\00:50:04.47 and I am glad that you know when you mentioned this 00:50:04.67\00:50:07.44 you said that even couch potatoes joined. 00:50:07.64\00:50:10.31 And you know, there's also the different aspects 00:50:10.51\00:50:15.04 of an event that: "Hey, maybe you can't go the full 00:50:15.24\00:50:17.71 distance. You can do part. " Right. And I like that 00:50:17.91\00:50:20.92 because you were giving many people an opportunity 00:50:21.08\00:50:25.72 because not everybody can do like for example you said 00:50:25.92\00:50:29.22 48 miles but they can do part of it. 00:50:29.42\00:50:31.93 You know, they can do a little bit of it. 00:50:32.13\00:50:33.50 So this is great. Yes, he did mention you could do 00:50:33.70\00:50:35.73 two miles, three miles, eight, you know. Yes. 00:50:35.93\00:50:38.33 The important thing is to take a step forward. 00:50:38.53\00:50:41.64 That's right. That's for everyone. That's right. 00:50:41.84\00:50:43.94 Well, our time is just about up for this segment. 00:50:44.14\00:50:47.18 And this has been a marvelous marvelous experience. 00:50:47.38\00:50:50.15 Calvin has many things more to share. 00:50:50.35\00:50:52.65 And we are going to take a break and share the contact info 00:50:52.85\00:50:58.62 so that everyone that wants to take part 00:50:58.82\00:51:03.12 and know more about F5 Challenge can get the info you need. 00:51:03.32\00:51:08.06 Also, they may even want to know: "Hey, how... how do I get 00:51:08.26\00:51:13.77 started with something like this? " 00:51:13.97\00:51:15.74 Have you had any invitations for example to churches 00:51:15.94\00:51:18.04 to share about some of these experiences? 00:51:18.24\00:51:20.24 Absolutely. Any opportunity we get 00:51:20.44\00:51:22.54 we try do our best to accommodate them. 00:51:22.74\00:51:24.45 We've been able to go to like Holbrook Indian School 00:51:24.65\00:51:26.68 and do a whole weekend event for the students there. 00:51:26.88\00:51:29.48 As I mentioned, we had a team that was just at the Penn. Conf. 00:51:29.68\00:51:33.15 Camp Meeting putting on a whole event. 00:51:33.36\00:51:35.02 We were just at the NAD their called conference. 00:51:35.22\00:51:38.59 Yes. Six thousand attendees 00:51:38.79\00:51:40.13 and we were putting on the exercise segment for them, 00:51:40.23\00:51:42.30 morning exercises. And so, yeah, something that we love to do. 00:51:42.73\00:51:45.37 Excellent. Well we'll be back in just a moment. 00:51:45.77\00:51:47.44
