Welcome to 3ABN Today. My name is John Lomacang. 00:01:08.06\00:01:11.10 And it is always my pleasure to have my wife with me (Angela) 00:01:11.13\00:01:14.37 Good to have you here Honey. 00:01:14.40\00:01:15.74 I am happy to be here. I'm glad that you have tuned in today 00:01:15.77\00:01:19.17 You're going to be blessed by this program. 00:01:19.21\00:01:21.28 That's right. We're talking about education. And you may... 00:01:21.31\00:01:25.51 Christian education (Ah) not just education. 00:01:25.55\00:01:28.82 That's right. Not just education but Christian education. And our 00:01:28.85\00:01:33.42 guests today are from Ouachita Hills Academy. You'll get a 00:01:33.46\00:01:36.29 chance to meet them in just a moment. So if you have young 00:01:36.32\00:01:39.26 people in the home that you're thinking about sending to school 00:01:39.29\00:01:42.00 in this challenging generation it is always most important to 00:01:42.03\00:01:46.53 have an education that's going to shape them for eternity. 00:01:46.57\00:01:49.37 And we strongly recommend Ouachita Hills. But we want to 00:01:49.40\00:01:53.27 first of all, thank you for your prayers and your support of 3ABN 00:01:53.31\00:01:56.44 that work as we continue going and growing, getting ready for 00:01:56.48\00:01:59.81 the coming of the Lord. Now before we introduce our guests 00:01:59.85\00:02:04.02 we have some music today and what's the title of 00:02:04.05\00:02:08.22 the song Honey 00:02:08.26\00:02:09.59 It's going to be 'Tis So Sweet and it's going to be one of the 00:02:09.62\00:02:12.29 Birchfield Brothers. They're going to be sharing this 00:02:12.33\00:02:14.23 wonderful song and you know it is so sweet to trust in Jesus. 00:02:14.26\00:02:19.97 ¤ ¤ Guitar melody 00:02:20.00\00:02:39.95 ¤ ¤ 00:02:39.99\00:06:03.16 Thank you so much for that song and that's why this program's 00:06:03.19\00:06:07.33 important because this academy has been trusting the Lord for a 00:06:07.36\00:06:10.87 long time. 00:06:10.90\00:06:12.23 A long time. He did a wonderful job playing that guitar (that's 00:06:12.27\00:06:15.70 right). You used to play guitar. 00:06:15.74\00:06:17.07 I want to play like that one day so just pray for me to have a 00:06:17.11\00:06:20.08 guitar. I don't know what chords he used but it sounded very good 00:06:20.11\00:06:23.04 (Yeah) What a blessing for the song also. (Amen) 00:06:23.08\00:06:26.11 Well our guests today, we have Robert, Oh you go by Robb. 00:06:26.15\00:06:31.72 Yes. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what do you do at 00:06:31.75\00:06:36.22 Actually Robert Neall. Robb Neall. 00:06:36.26\00:06:40.23 Well I'm the registrar at Ouachita Hills Academy. I also 00:06:40.26\00:06:42.93 teach Bible. I get the privilege of teaching Life and Teachings 00:06:42.96\00:06:45.73 of Jesus, my favorite class. We to through the life of Christ 00:06:45.77\00:06:48.00 together with young people. And then I teach World History and 00:06:48.04\00:06:50.84 American History and I'm the director of the Ringers of Hope 00:06:50.87\00:06:52.87 bell choir as well. So. Been there for 22 years. Came in 2000 00:06:52.91\00:06:57.58 It's been a real privilege to work with young people and a 00:06:57.61\00:07:00.32 thrill to see them, many of them surrender their hearts to the 00:07:00.35\00:07:02.15 Lord. 00:07:02.18\00:07:03.52 How many students? 00:07:03.55\00:07:04.89 We have about 30 students. We're kind of a family-oriented small 00:07:04.92\00:07:06.99 school that is intentionally small. We can work with them 00:07:07.02\00:07:10.73 better, kind of in a family setting, you know. But we vary 00:07:10.76\00:07:14.86 between 30 and 50 depending on the school year. COVID you know 00:07:14.90\00:07:17.70 was a difficult circumstance to pass through but it was a 00:07:17.73\00:07:20.57 blessing nonetheless and now we're at around 30. 00:07:20.60\00:07:23.51 What about staff, how many? 00:07:23.54\00:07:25.21 And we about 20, 15-20 staff. We also have Ouachita Hills 00:07:25.24\00:07:30.21 College on the Campus and so some of the staff are kind of 00:07:30.25\00:07:32.91 half and between, some for the academy and some for the college 00:07:32.95\00:07:35.35 and some that are working for both and so it's kind of hard to 00:07:35.38\00:07:38.95 split it up exactly, but... 00:07:38.99\00:07:40.32 Is this a fully accredited college? 00:07:40.36\00:07:41.82 Ah-huh. Well the college is working on accreditation and the 00:07:41.86\00:07:45.53 academy is accredited through the ISEI Educational Association 00:07:45.56\00:07:49.70 that is with many of our self- supporting schools are 00:07:49.73\00:07:54.00 accredited through. 00:07:54.04\00:07:55.57 Okay good. 00:07:55.60\00:07:56.94 Completely different fact. I just have to mention this 00:07:56.97\00:07:58.31 because people always tell me I'm tall. Robert is 6'9". He had 00:07:58.34\00:08:01.91 to unfold to get into the studio Not really. (He's very tall)Good 00:08:01.94\00:08:06.21 to have you here today. I have a good friend, John Stanton, 6'10" 00:08:06.25\00:08:09.62 and I haven't seen him in a while and you reminded me of him 00:08:09.65\00:08:11.52 But okay Honey. 00:08:11.55\00:08:12.89 Okay next to you is one of the students. Tell us your name. 00:08:12.92\00:08:18.99 What grade are you in? A Junior or Senior? 00:08:19.03\00:08:21.23 Well I'm Oscar (Ortiz) and I'm a Junior at Ouachita Hills 00:08:21.26\00:08:26.63 Academy. 00:08:26.67\00:08:28.00 Academy! Are you enjoying it there? 00:08:28.04\00:08:29.40 Yes, I enjoy it thoroughly. 00:08:29.44\00:08:31.77 How long have you been there? 00:08:31.81\00:08:33.58 This is my first year actually at Ouachita Hills, so yeah. 00:08:33.61\00:08:37.91 What are you studying and what will you be studying when you 00:08:37.95\00:08:43.59 I plan to be somewhere between a pastor and a teacher, 00:08:43.62\00:08:50.59 psychologist. 00:08:50.63\00:08:51.96 You'll need all three when you're a pastor, believe me. 00:08:51.99\00:08:53.53 Yeah that's what I've been guessing. 00:08:53.56\00:08:54.90 Psychologist particularly. Yeah what is he talking about? 00:08:54.93\00:08:58.30 Good to have you here Oscar. And Alina Bretzsky, right did 00:08:58.33\00:09:03.91 I say that correctly. (Birecki). Birecki 00:09:03.94\00:09:09.28 That's Polish huh? 00:09:09.31\00:09:10.65 Yes, tell us about yourself. 00:09:10.68\00:09:12.01 My name is Alina Birecki. I am 17 years old. I go to Ouachita 00:09:12.05\00:09:17.65 Hills Academy and I am a Junior. 00:09:17.69\00:09:20.16 How long have you been there? 00:09:20.19\00:09:21.52 This is my first semester. 00:09:21.56\00:09:24.96 Okay (Your first semester) so you're just kind of getting 00:09:24.99\00:09:29.70 broken in there, knowing the campus. Are you enjoying it 00:09:29.73\00:09:34.14 thus far? 00:09:34.17\00:09:35.50 I am. It is such a blessing. It's a privilege to come to 00:09:35.54\00:09:39.14 school here. 00:09:39.17\00:09:40.64 And finally, we have Jewel. We left the Jewel for last. 00:09:40.68\00:09:45.01 A beautiful Jewel. 00:09:45.05\00:09:47.58 Yes, my name is Jewel Midboe. I'm a senior in the academy. 00:09:47.62\00:09:53.09 Okay. Have you been there all four years? 00:09:53.12\00:09:55.86 No, I actually came my sophomore year so this is my third year 00:09:55.89\00:09:58.53 being there at the academy. 00:09:58.56\00:10:00.20 Have you enjoyed it? 00:10:00.23\00:10:01.56 Yes. It's been a great blessing for me. God's definitely used 00:10:01.60\00:10:05.63 the work there to impact my life He's helped me to grow there 00:10:05.67\00:10:10.44 spiritually and in some amazing ways. 00:10:10.47\00:10:12.17 Are there more girls than guys there? 00:10:12.21\00:10:14.81 We're really right split half and half approximately this year 00:10:14.84\00:10:18.18 Some years it seems to swing one way and other years the other 00:10:18.21\00:10:21.08 was but right now we're just kind of split. 00:10:21.12\00:10:24.65 Wow well as a teacher who's been there for as many years as you 00:10:24.69\00:10:28.76 have given us an overview of the school and the various avenues 00:10:28.79\00:10:31.96 of ministry not only on the campus but we're going to 00:10:31.99\00:10:34.16 highlight these students today and some of the ministries that 00:10:34.20\00:10:36.26 you get involved in. Let's go ahead...Matter of fact, tell us 00:10:36.30\00:10:39.60 some of those areas and then we'll go ahead and start with 00:10:39.63\00:10:41.17 Jewel in just a moment here. 00:10:41.20\00:10:42.94 So, we are told in the Spirit of Prophecy that strength to resist 00:10:42.97\00:10:47.94 temptation is best gained through active service and you 00:10:47.98\00:10:50.75 know that's kind of a motto that we have that if we want young 00:10:50.78\00:10:53.88 people to have a vibrant Christian life that are going 00:10:53.92\00:10:56.12 have strong values that resist temptation they have to be 00:10:56.15\00:11:00.19 involved in service. And we try to do that through a lot of 00:11:00.22\00:11:03.12 different means, getting them involved locally. We have a 00:11:03.16\00:11:06.43 music program that we go out and tour a lot with that is around 00:11:06.46\00:11:10.07 locally and abroad, beyond our local state that is. And both a 00:11:10.10\00:11:15.50 choir, an orchestra, and a bell choir. We tour a lot and do 00:11:15.54\00:11:19.47 ministry in that way. Some of the students have been involved 00:11:19.51\00:11:23.24 over the years in canvassing. We do community service, disaster 00:11:23.28\00:11:27.98 relief, trying to get students involved in different avenues of 00:11:28.02\00:11:31.69 service because it's the foundation of a life of joy. 00:11:31.72\00:11:36.56 We're told that it is a life of service only that true happiness 00:11:36.59\00:11:39.46 is found and so to get students to be experiencing the joy of 00:11:39.49\00:11:44.87 knowing Jesus they have to be sharing Him with others and so 00:11:44.90\00:11:48.54 we really...our emphasis is to try to get them involved in that 00:11:48.57\00:11:52.77 and we've had a mission trip every year that any student can 00:11:52.81\00:11:56.88 be involved in. (Interesting) They can apply to go to. They've 00:11:56.91\00:12:01.02 gone mostly like Cuba, Dominican Republic and sort of close by in 00:12:01.05\00:12:08.62 South America. But if a student hasn't had the opportunity of 00:12:08.66\00:12:12.36 going somewhere and doing something in missions before 00:12:12.39\00:12:15.13 they graduate, all the seniors take a trip in active evangelism 00:12:15.16\00:12:20.64 somewhere doing something specifically around the world 00:12:20.67\00:12:24.07 traveling to a place to be able to do an evangelistic series in 00:12:24.11\00:12:29.61 which the students themselves are doing the preaching. That's 00:12:29.64\00:12:35.05 one of the avenues. Then we also have taken the students as we're 00:12:35.08\00:12:40.59 able to go to other mission events like Pathways to Health 00:12:40.62\00:12:44.79 That's a whole...It's a wonderful experience for the 00:12:44.83\00:12:49.26 students in getting involved in service and we'll talk about 00:12:49.30\00:12:52.03 that one as well. But there's lots of different avenues that 00:12:52.07\00:12:55.20 we try to plug them into different areas where they can 00:12:55.24\00:12:57.37 serve and find their niche to be able to share Jesus with others. 00:12:57.41\00:13:00.38 And let's start with Jewel today because we're going to talk 00:13:00.41\00:13:05.25 about Pathways of Health but you know you talked about mission 00:13:05.28\00:13:08.42 trips to different countries I'll go ahead and let you lead 00:13:08.45\00:13:11.95 into this part about how Jewel got involved in a project. 00:13:11.99\00:13:15.86 Where did you go? 00:13:15.89\00:13:17.26 So Jewel is one of our seniors this year I'll let her tell a 00:13:17.29\00:13:22.96 little bit about it. I think we have some pictures actually of 00:13:23.00\00:13:26.23 her. They were going on a mission trip it was...you can 00:13:26.27\00:13:30.71 tell them, Jewel, where you were headed. 00:13:30.74\00:13:33.78 This was taken in Cochabamba, Bolivia, which is where we ended 00:13:33.81\00:13:37.25 up going. And that's our group with a group of kids that was 00:13:37.28\00:13:42.85 at a church, we went to the first Sabbath there. We went out 00:13:42.88\00:13:45.59 We divided to go out to churches for our meetings to minister to 00:13:45.62\00:13:50.43 the people out there. 00:13:50.46\00:13:52.03 Okay, and what are you doing there? 00:13:52.06\00:13:54.66 I'm preaching. (With a translator) Yes. 00:13:54.70\00:13:59.00 Was this your first time Jewel? 00:13:59.03\00:14:00.37 Preaching? An evangelistic series. Yes. I had done a little 00:14:00.40\00:14:05.04 bit of preaching in the school in general and back home. 00:14:05.07\00:14:07.84 But for an evangelistic series this was my first time. 00:14:07.88\00:14:10.91 How did you feel? 00:14:10.95\00:14:12.28 I was nervous a little bit. But really coming to Ouachita 00:14:12.31\00:14:17.15 Hills Academy they've helped me to kind of be more prepared for 00:14:17.19\00:14:22.32 doing these kinds of things. Especially with our English 00:14:22.36\00:14:25.29 class like we do all sorts of speeches and learning how to be 00:14:25.33\00:14:29.66 able to kind of conduct ourselves in that way to be able 00:14:29.70\00:14:32.40 to provide the message that we're trying to give the people. 00:14:32.43\00:14:37.34 Okay so they teach you communication. 00:14:37.37\00:14:39.54 (Yes) to feel comfortable up front. Yeah like Toastmasters. 00:14:39.57\00:14:43.28 I know. 00:14:43.31\00:14:45.35 Yeah, we break them in. The freshmen start out with like a 00:14:45.38\00:14:47.65 talk that's like a five minute worship talk and then the 00:14:47.68\00:14:51.42 sophomores get a 10-minute talk and the juniors do a prayer 00:14:51.45\00:14:54.42 meeting talk. The seniors do a vespers talk. And so we build 00:14:54.46\00:14:58.16 them up then when they often go overseas and then they're 00:14:58.19\00:15:01.26 preaching the full evangelistic series while they are overseas 00:15:01.30\00:15:05.23 someplace. And we've been to I mean 20 some countries plus 00:15:05.27\00:15:09.04 countries in the world and there's been a direct result 00:15:09.07\00:15:12.84 of student evangelistic efforts over 2000 baptisms that we know 00:15:12.87\00:15:16.51 of and many of them are following up over the years with 00:15:16.54\00:15:18.68 more. But it's you know taking the gospel, the three angels 00:15:18.71\00:15:23.75 message to every nation, kindred tongue and people. That's our 00:15:23.79\00:15:27.42 mission to train young people to be involved in spreading the 00:15:27.46\00:15:30.73 gospel around the world. 00:15:30.76\00:15:32.09 What about Oscar? Have you preached before, done an 00:15:32.13\00:15:34.90 evangelistic series? 00:15:34.93\00:15:38.10 I have not yet but I have done what Mr. Neall was talking about 00:15:38.13\00:15:41.27 just giving a prayer meeting talk. 00:15:41.30\00:15:43.17 You've done that? 00:15:43.20\00:15:44.77 Yeah, I have. 00:15:44.81\00:15:46.14 What was that like for you? 00:15:46.17\00:15:47.51 It was a little nerve-wracking at first, because I had never 00:15:47.54\00:15:50.01 done anything like that. I'd participated a little in my 00:15:50.05\00:15:53.28 church but that was my first time actually getting up on 00:15:53.31\00:15:57.22 stage giving a full speech or message. 00:15:57.25\00:16:01.02 Was it because some of the students in the audience you 00:16:01.06\00:16:03.46 knew them and they were like saying, Go, Oscar! 00:16:03.49\00:16:08.16 A little bit, yeah. 00:16:08.20\00:16:09.53 I can imagine that... 00:16:09.56\00:16:10.93 It is. Sometimes it's easier to preach overseas than it is to 00:16:10.97\00:16:13.10 preach at home. The ones who really know you and they know 00:16:13.13\00:16:16.44 (multiple voices) 00:16:16.47\00:16:18.14 I can't laugh while he's looking at me. But that's good. These 00:16:18.17\00:16:22.04 are the developmental years of their lives and they'll look 00:16:22.08\00:16:24.45 back and say wow I used to be scared but look at me now. And 00:16:24.48\00:16:28.18 what about Alina? 00:16:28.22\00:16:29.95 Yeah, have you done your speaking? 00:16:29.98\00:16:31.32 Yes since I came to Ouachita I've preached once. I enjoyed it 00:16:31.35\00:16:38.36 thoroughly. It was such a blessing. Yes. 00:16:38.39\00:16:41.70 She's the missionary. You want to be a missionary. 00:16:41.73\00:16:44.17 I want to be a missionary nurse and have a group where we go 00:16:44.20\00:16:48.77 around and help those that need hygiene, health, or any help 00:16:48.80\00:16:53.14 they need. 00:16:53.17\00:16:55.48 That's an aspiring look. You know there's a lot of world out 00:16:55.51\00:16:58.75 there. And depending on how you approach that God can really 00:16:58.78\00:17:03.39 strengthen you. But let's get back to Jewel here for a moment 00:17:03.42\00:17:05.75 because Bolivia, preaching! How many topics did you cover? 00:17:05.79\00:17:10.66 A lot of doctrinal pillars of our doctrines and stuff like 00:17:10.69\00:17:15.40 that like I preached on the Sabbath. I preached on baptism. 00:17:15.43\00:17:20.00 The 2300-day prophecy. 00:17:20.04\00:17:22.04 Wow! What? 00:17:22.07\00:17:24.37 The state of the dead. Things like that. So just...A lot of 00:17:24.41\00:17:27.31 the people that attended the meetings had been taking Bible 00:17:27.34\00:17:29.81 studies to prepare for baptism already. So really coming 00:17:29.84\00:17:33.42 there was to 00:17:33.45\00:17:34.78 help give them an opportunity for baptism and kind of open up 00:17:34.82\00:17:39.39 to the...yeah, reaping, harvesting what was being worked 00:17:39.42\00:17:42.56 so they were going on there. 00:17:42.59\00:17:44.99 What about some of the atmosphere was it warm, was it 00:17:45.03\00:17:50.20 cool nights when you were preaching. How was it there? 00:17:50.23\00:17:52.73 Well, it was pretty warm, yes, it was fairly warm there, a 00:17:52.77\00:17:58.21 little bit dry but the evenings would get a little bit more 00:17:58.24\00:18:01.28 chilly, not super cold, but there were some evenings when 00:18:01.31\00:18:03.95 you wanted a jacket when you were going out. So... 00:18:03.98\00:18:06.18 What kind of audience? 00:18:06.21\00:18:08.32 The audience? Just locals. Some church members came to the 00:18:08.35\00:18:13.36 church I was preaching at. But mainly locals that they had been 00:18:13.39\00:18:18.23 inviting to the meetings. People that they had been doing studies 00:18:18.26\00:18:21.90 with like I mentioned. 00:18:21.93\00:18:23.67 Okay. I'm sure you were praying a lot, weren't you? 00:18:23.70\00:18:26.17 Yes, lots of prayers. 00:18:26.20\00:18:29.14 Lots of prayers. Were you nervous? 00:18:29.17\00:18:32.27 At some points, yes, but the more I did it I found it got a 00:18:32.31\00:18:36.18 little bit easier. 00:18:36.21\00:18:38.25 (Yes) The reason why she's asking that is that not too long 00:18:38.28\00:18:40.88 ago she was invited to speak in New Guinea but then COVID hit. 00:18:40.92\00:18:44.09 But she's going to get ready for a second chance for that. 00:18:44.12\00:18:47.19 I am? 00:18:47.22\00:18:48.56 I hope so. (multiple voices) Well you'll know all the answers 00:18:48.59\00:18:51.09 to the questions. 00:18:51.13\00:18:52.46 I don't know how comfortable that was. 00:18:52.49\00:18:54.33 The city that they were at I think they call it the city of 00:18:54.36\00:18:56.90 eternal spring because the weather there is like a spring 00:18:56.93\00:19:00.17 time. A lot of times its high in the Andes, so it's a valley 00:19:00.20\00:19:02.90 in the Andes in the mountains there in Bolivia and so it's a 00:19:02.94\00:19:06.34 beautiful area. She was also involved not just with the 00:19:06.37\00:19:09.54 preaching. They also held a clinic or a health expo and 00:19:09.58\00:19:12.95 Jewel you were sharing a little bit about that earlier. 00:19:12.98\00:19:16.65 What did you do with that? 00:19:16.69\00:19:18.45 So what we did was in the mornings because the meetings 00:19:18.49\00:19:21.12 would be in the evenings. In the mornings we would open up a 00:19:21.16\00:19:24.56 health clinic. It was open to the community to come and get 00:19:24.59\00:19:26.76 any health care I think that they needed. For the first 00:19:26.80\00:19:31.60 making sure they knew where to go first, because they had 00:19:31.63\00:19:36.40 different stations so they were like you know okay first you 00:19:36.44\00:19:40.11 have to go to this station just so it didn't become chaotic 00:19:40.14\00:19:42.94 with everybody 00:19:42.98\00:19:44.31 getting mixed up with the different places they needed to 00:19:44.35\00:19:47.22 go. So they would have some stations just teaching them 00:19:47.25\00:19:52.92 about water, hydration, nutrition, exercise, sleep and 00:19:52.95\00:20:00.03 then they would have stations for where they could come and 00:20:00.06\00:20:01.53 get a massage, especially the ladies there because they carry 00:20:01.56\00:20:04.10 so much on their backs. A lot of them really needed messages. 00:20:04.13\00:20:06.84 So that was a big thing. And you could see a doctor, talk to a 00:20:06.87\00:20:11.77 dietician. Also for the rest of the week I worked at a pharmacy 00:20:11.81\00:20:14.78 so we would give them prescription things that they 00:20:14.81\00:20:17.75 needed, vitamins, ibuprofen, things like that. So that's 00:20:17.78\00:20:21.95 where we did those in the mornings, my group did. 00:20:21.98\00:20:24.89 That's pretty good. Do we have any more pictures with you and 00:20:24.92\00:20:28.09 you can tell us what we're looking at. 00:20:28.12\00:20:29.46 Now, what is this picture of? 00:20:29.49\00:20:30.93 That was another smaller church that we went to where we were 00:20:30.96\00:20:35.06 inviting the people, introducing ourselves to that church and 00:20:35.10\00:20:39.47 inviting them to come to the meetings for the week. Telling 00:20:39.50\00:20:43.24 them why we were there, what we were doing. 00:20:43.27\00:20:44.94 And this one? 00:20:44.97\00:20:46.57 That was a baptism that we had the last day that we were there. 00:20:46.61\00:20:50.18 It looks like a lot of people there. 00:20:50.21\00:20:53.88 Yes, there were a lot of people. We did it in a big stadium that 00:20:53.92\00:20:57.29 was fairly new there. 00:20:57.32\00:20:58.65 And when the meetings were done what was your exhale, ah I'm 00:20:58.69\00:21:04.99 finished or I want to do this again. Which one was it? 00:21:05.03\00:21:07.63 It was more of I want to do this again. All of our group were 00:21:07.66\00:21:10.53 like we want to come back here see everybody again. I inspired 00:21:10.57\00:21:14.97 me a lot to continue doing mission work. Honestly, like 00:21:15.00\00:21:19.27 this is why I'm doing what I'm doing. So when you have an 00:21:19.31\00:21:24.15 experience like that for our group it's an inspiration when 00:21:24.18\00:21:28.78 you see the needs that they have out there and for me it helped 00:21:28.82\00:21:33.02 me see why I'm doing my education, you know. Education's 00:21:33.05\00:21:36.62 supposed to be actually what I've been seeing developing what 00:21:36.66\00:21:39.76 God has given us so we can go to use that for his glory taking it 00:21:39.79\00:21:42.50 out to help other people and share Jesus with them. 00:21:42.53\00:21:47.40 I like that. So when we were growing up in school in New York 00:21:47.44\00:21:50.67 City we didn't have these opportunities. So you're way 00:21:50.71\00:21:56.11 ahead of the curve. God is developing in you. That's why 00:21:56.14\00:21:58.08 Christian education is so vitally important. Thank you for 00:21:58.11\00:22:03.28 sharing that. We'll dive into that more so. This being your 00:22:03.32\00:22:07.62 senior year, where do you plan ongoing for the continuing 00:22:07.66\00:22:12.19 education? 00:22:12.23\00:22:13.83 Actually, I feel like the Lord might be leading me to go into 00:22:13.86\00:22:16.16 secondary education, studying in that area. And from there I 00:22:16.20\00:22:20.47 guess it's just wherever God continues to lead. After going 00:22:20.50\00:22:23.37 on that mission trip, I'm more open now to actually being a 00:22:23.41\00:22:29.54 missionary teacher in some other place if that's where He leads. 00:22:29.58\00:22:31.78 But education is the plan right now. 00:22:31.81\00:22:35.62 This is a question. What are the highlights about being at 00:22:35.65\00:22:38.12 Ouachita Hills? And of you. 00:22:38.15\00:22:40.39 For me personally, I think it's the holistic education that 00:22:40.42\00:22:46.03 they have that we get to work outside, we get to study inside 00:22:46.06\00:22:50.73 You know, the Biblical classes are just the high point always. 00:22:50.77\00:22:55.94 There's so much to learn and to just take in and I think the 00:22:55.97\00:23:00.34 brotherhood of the school you know like Mr. Neall said since 00:23:00.38\00:23:05.51 it's meant to be kind of small so that we can get close to each 00:23:05.55\00:23:09.15 other and just learn to be like better people, I guess, you know 00:23:09.18\00:23:15.49 for the Lord. And just being so close it creates a different 00:23:15.52\00:23:21.43 kind of relationship. 00:23:21.46\00:23:24.00 Wow is there a garden? Do you have a garden? 00:23:24.03\00:23:26.37 (Yes?) It's a work/study program so the students are involved 00:23:26.40\00:23:30.94 approximately four hours a day. And a vocational training and we 00:23:30.97\00:23:34.71 do have an agricultural program. The students also work in the 00:23:34.74\00:23:37.25 summer some. We grow a fair amount of the produce that we 00:23:37.28\00:23:40.52 actually consume on campus. Of course it's challenging you know 00:23:40.55\00:23:46.99 to grow in southern Arkansas but the students are involved in 00:23:47.02\00:23:49.82 that. Students are involved in food service, in construction. 00:23:49.86\00:23:52.53 They're learning skills in those areas, practice skills in 00:23:52.56\00:23:56.23 maintenance, grounds. There are some that work in the office, 00:23:56.26\00:23:59.00 some that work in media, media production. We have a media 00:23:59.03\00:24:03.84 program. And so there's a variety of aspects that students 00:24:03.87\00:24:07.18 can be involved in during their time here and then it's college 00:24:07.21\00:24:10.81 preparatory so the students are able to prepare you know with 00:24:10.85\00:24:12.78 the normal algebra and science and Bible and English classes 00:24:12.81\00:24:16.65 that they would need to go on to college which most of them do by 00:24:16.69\00:24:18.79 and large for their further education. It prepares them very 00:24:18.82\00:24:23.26 well for a life of service. You know, our mission statement 00:24:23.29\00:24:27.86 specifically is to nurture our students into a relationship 00:24:27.90\00:24:30.20 with Jesus, to educate them for a life of service and to train 00:24:30.23\00:24:33.54 them to take the gospel to the world. It spells NET, Nurture, 00:24:33.57\00:24:38.01 Educate and Train because you know the gospel is a net Jesus 00:24:38.04\00:24:43.98 casts a gospel net, right? And we reap in the souls and we want 00:24:44.01\00:24:48.35 the students to get a vision for that to first spend time and get 00:24:48.38\00:24:52.22 to know Jesus, that's the most important part you know. And 00:24:52.25\00:24:55.66 education is focused on service and that's what gives us joy. 00:24:55.69\00:24:59.29 Prepares us to live a life of service for others. And then to 00:24:59.33\00:25:02.36 take the gospel to the world. That's our mission and you know 00:25:02.40\00:25:06.17 we kind of focus on doing that in every aspect of our program. 00:25:06.20\00:25:10.87 When was this school established? 00:25:10.91\00:25:12.71 It was about 1989 was when it started. It started by Harriet 00:25:12.74\00:25:19.51 and Chester Clark. He's a dentist in that area and they 00:25:19.55\00:25:22.68 started it there in their home. And then it's grown over the 00:25:22.72\00:25:26.35 years that grew and then they got property with the Laymen's 00:25:26.39\00:25:30.06 Foundation out in the country and then the campus has grown 00:25:30.09\00:25:32.93 significantly. The college joined in 2004 and then it has 00:25:32.96\00:25:37.57 continued to grow. It's in the rural south part of Arkansas 00:25:37.60\00:25:42.67 so we're in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains. That's why 00:25:42.70\00:25:45.97 the funny name because it's an Indian name. Ouachita Indians 00:25:46.01\00:25:51.65 live in that area. There's the Ouachita River and there's the 00:25:51.68\00:25:53.55 Lake Ouachita and Ouachita National Forest. So if you're an 00:25:53.58\00:25:58.52 Arkansan you know how to pronounce that name but if 00:25:58.55\00:25:59.95 you're not it's a funny one. But that's why we Ouachita Hills 00:25:59.99\00:26:04.33 because we're right there in the foothills. We often are able to 00:26:04.36\00:26:07.03 get out into the national forest which is just north of us. 00:26:07.06\00:26:10.87 Beautiful area in southern Arkansas called the 00:26:10.90\00:26:13.34 Natural State. 00:26:13.37\00:26:14.70 That's good. It's nice to encourage those that are 00:26:14.74\00:26:17.87 watching our program to consider this school for maybe future 00:26:17.91\00:26:20.51 educational needs. Because the Lord has developed this campus 00:26:20.54\00:26:24.65 for the full rounding of the student both temporally and 00:26:24.68\00:26:28.62 spiritually as well as education for eternity. Now let's come 00:26:28.65\00:26:31.69 back from Bolivia and come to America now and talk about the 00:26:31.72\00:26:34.26 other aspects of outreach that Oscar and Alina were involved in 00:26:34.29\00:26:38.26 So the whole school actually just had the opportunity of 00:26:38.29\00:26:44.40 going to the Pathways to Health and there's the picture of the 00:26:44.43\00:26:47.17 group that went. This last one that they had or recent one was 00:26:47.20\00:26:52.01 in well I'll let Oscar, you can tell about it, where it was and 00:26:52.04\00:26:58.95 what our roles were there. 00:26:58.98\00:27:00.52 At Pathways, well it was in Indiana, Indianapolis, and it 00:27:00.55\00:27:11.69 was held on the Lucas Oil Stadium. (Okay) 00:27:11.73\00:27:16.70 Normally it's a football stadium but for one, well not one week 00:27:16.73\00:27:23.54 but for four days. 00:27:23.57\00:27:27.08 It was created into a mobile hospital. 00:27:27.11\00:27:28.74 And that's the picture of it there, that mobile hospital. 00:27:28.78\00:27:30.15 But that there you had the stadium surrounding it and 00:27:30.18\00:27:32.51 that's large. When you think about the floor. I guess it has 00:27:32.55\00:27:36.89 to be big enough for a football stadium. That's more than a 00:27:36.92\00:27:40.39 hundred yards long. 00:27:40.42\00:27:41.76 Yes it is and they divide it up into all sorts of medical 00:27:41.79\00:27:45.39 services. If you go to Pathways it's like this enormous medical 00:27:45.43\00:27:49.30 program. It's really amazing. It is. They have triage and you 00:27:49.33\00:27:53.20 come out of medical or you come out of dental and they have just 00:27:53.23\00:27:57.14 about every medical service you could imagine. They even have 00:27:57.17\00:27:59.94 general surgery. Women's Health. They have Dental and Eye Care. 00:27:59.97\00:28:04.01 They have mental health. Some of the other services they 00:28:04.05\00:28:09.88 provide there. I think... 00:28:09.92\00:28:11.25 Haircuts, massages, hydrotherapy. 00:28:11.29\00:28:14.66 What about haircuts? 00:28:14.69\00:28:16.02 Haircuts, yes you can get a haircut there. 00:28:16.06\00:28:20.80 They provide it all and it's for free for the local community 00:28:20.83\00:28:24.07 that often are underserved or that are disadvantaged that 00:28:24.10\00:28:28.30 don't have health care. You know they might be immigrants or 00:28:28.34\00:28:32.07 whatever. It's provided for four days. It started on a Sunday and 00:28:32.11\00:28:37.18 went through Wednesday and it's a holistic program that touches 00:28:37.21\00:28:40.25 almost every aspect of our lives And so the students had a chance 00:28:40.28\00:28:44.69 to serve in different capacities Describe some of the things that 00:28:44.72\00:28:48.62 our students as a whole, what they did. 00:28:48.66\00:28:50.73 Well, Alina let's go with you since you're the quiet one. 00:28:50.76\00:28:55.20 So there were many positions where you could be. You could be 00:28:55.23\00:28:59.10 a patient assistant transport where you take a patient from 00:28:59.13\00:29:03.57 one area to the next. There was also child service care. 00:29:03.61\00:29:07.64 That's what's happening in this picture here. 00:29:07.68\00:29:09.01 Yes, in this picture. 00:29:09.04\00:29:11.51 And they have this lei. They had this lei on. What does that 00:29:11.55\00:29:13.92 It means that you're the patient transporter. (Oh okay) 00:29:13.95\00:29:17.85 And they were much in demand. Because the people would be like 00:29:17.89\00:29:20.42 Hey, come here. We need some help. This patient...The 00:29:20.46\00:29:23.09 patients have to get from one area of the stadium, you know, 00:29:23.12\00:29:27.80 from this corner and they have to go to Women's Health which is 00:29:27.83\00:29:29.36 you know way over here. And they don't know how to get there so 00:29:29.40\00:29:33.07 their job is to memorize the stadium and where to go and then 00:29:33.10\00:29:36.97 they are given the patient and they have to walk with them, 00:29:37.01\00:29:39.57 transport them to another area. 00:29:39.61\00:29:41.81 There was also a childcare service. You can take care of 00:29:41.84\00:29:46.95 the patient's children and then there's also the volunteers' 00:29:46.98\00:29:51.35 children that you can take care of. And then there's also media 00:29:51.39\00:29:54.62 where you can take pictures and whatever they need. There's a 00:29:54.66\00:30:00.20 food service where you have boxes and you take them around 00:30:00.23\00:30:04.27 and give them to every single station which was a lot. 00:30:04.30\00:30:08.17 Were there a lot people there? 00:30:08.20\00:30:09.54 Thousands like 2400 volunteers during the time. It's an amazing 00:30:09.57\00:30:15.38 thing and then the patients, I think they treated over 4000 00:30:15.41\00:30:19.11 patients during the four days that we were there and some 00:30:19.15\00:30:23.79 years you know it's been 6000 or 7000 that they've been able 00:30:23.82\00:30:27.29 to treat free. Millions of dollars of health care provided 00:30:27.32\00:30:29.82 free for the local community. And it's a wonderful 00:30:29.86\00:30:32.99 organization. The students were busy and they were all involved 00:30:33.03\00:30:36.23 in different aspects of it. It was just a wonderful service 00:30:36.26\00:30:39.03 opportunity and I know personally touching the lives 00:30:39.07\00:30:43.41 of individuals. I know Alina had several stories, Oscar as well, 00:30:43.44\00:30:48.91 of patients that they met and transported. Maybe Alina you can 00:30:48.94\00:30:53.01 share the one that you met with a lady as you were transporting 00:30:53.05\00:30:56.95 her in the wheelchair. 00:30:56.99\00:30:58.65 Yes so. Well I was working on the top and I was with 00:30:58.69\00:31:02.96 dental triage. And usually you don't get to see the patients 00:31:02.99\00:31:06.96 long but with the wheelchair people, you get to go all the 00:31:07.00\00:31:10.10 way around the stadium. The elevator is on the one side. So 00:31:10.13\00:31:14.40 this one particular lady, I got to talk to her, Myrna. I asked 00:31:14.44\00:31:18.27 her how are you today and as the time went on, she starting 00:31:18.31\00:31:22.21 opening up and she told me that her husband had died in a car 00:31:22.24\00:31:26.01 accident and she in it and she was badly injured. Her leg was 00:31:26.05\00:31:34.46 fully not...it was broken and she was telling me how hard it was because life was 00:31:34.49\00:31:37.73 hard and she felt like nobody was there. Her children were 00:31:37.76\00:31:40.70 rebelling constantly. And as we went on I asked her what she 00:31:40.73\00:31:45.97 thought about God and she said, sometimes I feel like he's not 00:31:46.00\00:31:50.17 even here. And I told her there's hope, there's hope. It's 00:31:50.21\00:31:53.27 not a coincidence that you met me. There's people who care for 00:31:53.31\00:31:57.25 you and I'm very happy that you could be here and she just 00:31:57.28\00:32:00.18 started crying. And I told here there's hope, you have a big 00:32:00.22\00:32:05.25 future ahead. God knows you plans and I quoted Romans 8:28 00:32:05.29\00:32:10.49 I know the plans for you, plans to prosper. And she just started 00:32:10.53\00:32:16.63 crying and I gave her a hug and I prayed with her. And it 00:32:16.67\00:32:21.80 inspired me to just see just how God can work. He gives us divine 00:32:21.84\00:32:26.71 appointments and I got to share God's love with her. 00:32:26.74\00:32:30.95 Beautiful. Isaiah 29:11 (Oh yes) Romans 8:28- All things... 00:32:30.98\00:32:38.85 All things work together for good for them that love. 00:32:38.89\00:32:42.32 And so Oscar speaks Spanish. Now tell us did they have that 00:32:42.36\00:32:47.46 service there at the... 00:32:47.50\00:32:51.80 Did you have to speak Spanish for anyone? 00:32:51.83\00:32:53.60 I did. Most of the people I actually spoke to were only 00:32:53.64\00:32:57.44 Spanish speaking because they were a majority of the patients 00:32:57.47\00:33:01.98 that were coming in. They didn't speak any English. They were 00:33:02.01\00:33:06.21 The majority of the health care providers were only English. 00:33:06.25\00:33:09.58 There was this huge need for translation. And we had a number 00:33:09.62\00:33:15.46 of students, we had about eight students who were bilingual and 00:33:15.49\00:33:18.23 so Oscar was one of those and it was a tremendous blessing 00:33:18.26\00:33:20.73 because you worked with the physicians (yeah) and you 00:33:20.76\00:33:24.50 worked with the patient to translate. You're a medical 00:33:24.53\00:33:29.04 person right? (A medical person?) 00:33:29.07\00:33:32.17 Did you work in medical? 00:33:32.21\00:33:33.54 No but I mean to translate into Spanish and into English. 00:33:33.58\00:33:36.64 Oh yeah. 00:33:36.68\00:33:38.65 Wow. That's interesting when you're dealing with medical 00:33:38.68\00:33:40.65 issues and you're the person between making it clear that 00:33:40.68\00:33:45.79 this is the kind of help they need. This is what the doctor 00:33:45.82\00:33:47.92 needs to understand. That's a responsible place to be. Talk 00:33:47.96\00:33:51.66 about your days when you woke up in the morning of the days of 00:33:51.69\00:33:55.36 being at Pathways to Health. What was it like? What was the 00:33:55.40\00:34:00.24 first thing you did each day? 00:34:00.27\00:34:01.60 Well you know like every day you have to pray for the people that 00:34:01.64\00:34:05.37 you are going to meet because I never knew what type of person 00:34:05.41\00:34:11.15 was going to come my way or what God had planned for me. So I 00:34:11.18\00:34:15.38 would ask Him, you know God, just put your influence upon me 00:34:15.42\00:34:19.95 that other people might not see myself but Jesus through me 00:34:19.99\00:34:24.43 because that's really what's most important that they see 00:34:24.46\00:34:27.16 Jesus in me, like I guess helping guide them. I'm not the 00:34:27.20\00:34:37.71 greatest like interactive. I was usually very quiet and just 00:34:37.74\00:34:43.35 what's the word? stoic. Yeah. (Okay, okay.) 00:34:43.38\00:34:50.52 So, I just asked Him, Lord, I just ask that you will open me 00:34:50.55\00:34:55.76 up to these people that they might feel comfortable around me 00:34:55.79\00:34:59.03 you know. Because it was just there, a great opportunity to 00:34:59.06\00:35:03.67 train myself in that way I guess. 00:35:03.70\00:35:06.47 Wow. What do you think of it, Hon. 00:35:06.50\00:35:11.94 No, I'm just enjoying this to see young people involved in 00:35:11.97\00:35:15.44 ministry and helping others. Were you there Jewel? 00:35:15.48\00:35:20.52 At Pathways? (Yes at Pathways) No. While I was in Bolivia 00:35:20.55\00:35:24.85 that's when they were at Pathways. So I was not able to 00:35:24.89\00:35:27.66 go. I see. 00:35:27.69\00:35:29.69 Now what about the story about the bus breakdown? 00:35:29.72\00:35:31.56 Yeah, maybe Alina can. 00:35:31.59\00:35:37.40 Yeah so the bus I was riding in that was where the girls were 00:35:37.43\00:35:41.60 and we were riding and we hear this pop and we don't know what 00:35:41.64\00:35:45.24 it is. We're not sure. We don't know what happened. We go okay 00:35:45.27\00:35:49.34 we keep going and after maybe a minute later the bus starts 00:35:49.38\00:35:53.52 sputtering and it breaks down to the side of the road in the 00:35:53.55\00:35:57.69 middle of the highway. And so the guys come and pick us up. We 00:35:57.72\00:36:03.69 were about an hour and a half away from our destination. And 00:36:03.73\00:36:07.46 the guys come pick us up, take the girls to a campsite and 00:36:07.50\00:36:11.97 then come back get the guys and go back. So instead of it being 00:36:12.00\00:36:17.01 a 15-hour trip it turned out to be an 18-hour trip. And at the 00:36:17.04\00:36:22.88 end when the mechanics came they found out the tire had actually 00:36:22.91\00:36:28.78 popped and if we had kept going it could have been more than 00:36:28.82\00:36:36.79 what had happened. 00:36:36.83\00:36:38.16 It was really amazing because the dulies on the back, there's 00:36:38.19\00:36:41.80 two tires and the inside tire, we didn't know it, but it had 00:36:41.83\00:36:44.67 blown and we were riding on the left tire. You know they had to 00:36:44.70\00:36:48.87 tow the bus all the way to Indianapolis and when they 00:36:48.90\00:36:51.97 lifted up the front end the back end went down because it was 00:36:52.01\00:36:55.34 only on one tire. And he had to turn around and lift it from the 00:36:55.38\00:36:57.55 back and tow it from behind. And realizing God's hand of 00:36:57.58\00:37:02.58 providence very much...you know when we were broken down beside 00:37:02.62\00:37:05.92 the road we don't know why. It just is inconvenient and it's a 00:37:05.95\00:37:09.99 long drive. The next day we're like you know who knows what 00:37:10.03\00:37:12.73 would have happened if that other tire had blown on our 00:37:12.76\00:37:16.06 journey you know. It could have been disastrous. God is good. 00:37:16.10\00:37:18.13 Okay, we know what that's like. 00:37:18.17\00:37:21.27 It happened to you recently with your brakes. 00:37:21.30\00:37:23.57 Yeah. My brakes gave out on my way. The Lord stopped me before 00:37:23.61\00:37:26.64 I got to the highway. I didn't know why I would pull over to 00:37:26.68\00:37:29.64 pick up something hot to drink and I thought I don't do that 00:37:29.68\00:37:31.88 and then I realized the Lord had me pull over. Only when I was 00:37:31.91\00:37:35.48 getting back on the road I had no brakes and I thought wow if I 00:37:35.52\00:37:38.59 had gone on the highway driving in a hurry to get to the meeting 00:37:38.62\00:37:41.89 with no brakes that would have been quite a different story. 00:37:41.92\00:37:44.39 So God does intervene. But you made it to the Pathways. Was 00:37:44.43\00:37:50.33 that on the way to Pathways? 00:37:50.37\00:37:51.93 It was on the way to Pathways just as we crossed the Illinois 00:37:51.97\00:37:54.30 border, Indiana border, and then we ended up having to rent a 15 00:37:54.34\00:38:00.38 passenger van it was tremendously more expensive than 00:38:00.41\00:38:04.58 we anticipated but God provided and we were able to meet all of 00:38:04.61\00:38:07.32 our obligations. We got there on time, just in time, actually. 00:38:07.35\00:38:10.29 But the students saw that when you're on a mission field number 00:38:10.32\00:38:13.86 one, the devil's angry and he's going to do everything he can to 00:38:13.89\00:38:17.33 try to prevent it. Right? He's going to slow us down and they 00:38:17.36\00:38:20.40 saw that we were on a battle field. When you're on the front 00:38:20.43\00:38:23.03 lines you're in war. And you can expect things are going to go 00:38:23.06\00:38:26.40 not the most smoothly, right? And then they also saw that God 00:38:26.43\00:38:33.01 provided because we were able to orchestrate things and we did 00:38:33.04\00:38:35.78 get it repaired and we were able to get back to campus with the 00:38:35.81\00:38:39.48 bus. So, in the end, everything worked out. But... 00:38:39.51\00:38:43.52 All things work together... Romans 8:28 (That's right) 00:38:43.55\00:38:46.15 The students...when you're doing active service that's when you 00:38:46.19\00:38:50.33 really see the hand of God providing for your needs, taking 00:38:50.36\00:38:54.46 care of the opposition. But then you know it's an answer to 00:38:54.50\00:38:58.13 prayer that He really answers and pushes the work forward. 00:38:58.17\00:39:02.87 Well I want to ask Jewel another question about evangelism 00:39:02.90\00:39:05.97 because evangelism is what causes the church to grow, what 00:39:06.01\00:39:11.65 causes the student to grow in preparation for your nightly 00:39:11.68\00:39:14.52 meetings. Well actually preparing to go. What kind of 00:39:14.55\00:39:18.45 material did you use for evangelism? 00:39:18.49\00:39:22.62 So, It Is Written actually gave us sermon notes so we can get a 00:39:22.66\00:39:27.40 better idea as to what we need to preach on, what they're 00:39:27.43\00:39:32.03 expecting for the people to hear So in the afternoon, we would 00:39:32.07\00:39:36.40 get back from the medical clinic, later in the afternoon. 00:39:36.44\00:39:40.18 The meetings for my church didn't start until around seven. 00:39:40.21\00:39:44.41 So I had a little bit of time to prepare then. During that time 00:39:44.45\00:39:47.52 I would go over the notes. I added some things. I would take 00:39:47.55\00:39:50.49 out things just to cut time so I wasn't going over too much. And 00:39:50.52\00:40:01.06 so I would basically just go through notes and I had a power 00:40:01.10\00:40:03.63 point so that...They provided a projector and I would use the 00:40:03.67\00:40:08.60 PowerPoint I had with my paper notes and I would use that to 00:40:08.64\00:40:13.78 basically, go off of to share with the people. So I would 00:40:13.81\00:40:17.58 share with them stories, the doctrine entire...Yeah I had 00:40:17.61\00:40:22.78 some pictures with them or for them and lots of Bible verses we 00:40:22.82\00:40:29.66 would go over the Bible verses in Spanish, so they could read 00:40:29.69\00:40:32.26 it and I didn't have to wait for the translator to see that. And 00:40:32.29\00:40:37.63 basically yeah I would just share with them that and that 00:40:37.67\00:40:42.50 was it. 00:40:42.54\00:40:43.87 Did you make an altar call? 00:40:43.91\00:40:45.24 I made three altar calls towards the end of the week, yeah. 00:40:45.27\00:40:47.58 Okay, and people responded? 00:40:47.61\00:40:49.84 Not for my church there were very few people there that 00:40:49.88\00:40:58.22 actually...There were a few people there who were still 00:40:58.25\00:41:00.66 taking studies. So I didn't get any calls during those altar 00:41:00.69\00:41:05.19 calls but I did make a few, yes. There were some people that 00:41:05.23\00:41:08.26 answered from baptisms in the other churches but... 00:41:08.30\00:41:11.53 Well you know you'll not see the success until later on till 00:41:11.57\00:41:14.47 kingdom come 00:41:14.50\00:41:15.84 You know Paul says, I planted, Apollos watered but God gave the 00:41:15.87\00:41:26.98 impact of your work maybe till eternity. Praise the Lord. Keep 00:41:27.02\00:41:38.53 doing that. 00:41:38.56\00:41:39.89 And one of the things that has been important over the years 00:41:39.93\00:41:44.27 is that, you know, we don't just go for spreading the gospel. We 00:41:44.30\00:41:50.07 go for us. And it gives the students a blessing. And we have 00:41:50.11\00:41:53.98 had many students who when they are giving the call...I remember 00:41:54.01\00:41:58.41 one young man that was preaching in the Philippines and he gave a 00:41:58.45\00:42:01.92 call for baptism and he hadn't been baptized. And when he gave 00:42:01.95\00:42:06.96 the call he actually walked down and answered the call and he was 00:42:06.99\00:42:13.90 baptized after the series of meetings. In other words, 00:42:13.93\00:42:16.97 sharing the gospel with others does something for us. And it 00:42:17.00\00:42:23.91 cements the gospel and it helps us to make that same step that 00:42:23.94\00:42:26.41 we're asking them to do. And we have had many young people that 00:42:26.44\00:42:29.44 have come back realizing that God is doing something in their 00:42:29.48\00:42:33.38 life because of them going to share in someone else's life and 00:42:33.42\00:42:36.12 they have answered their own calls. 00:42:36.15\00:42:38.29 He made the altar call. 00:42:38.32\00:42:39.65 And he answered it. That's called practicing what you 00:42:39.69\00:42:42.79 preach. (That's right) 00:42:42.82\00:42:44.43 It's a wonderful thing because when they come back you can see 00:42:44.46\00:42:47.46 a difference in their lives. They're more comfortable up 00:42:47.50\00:42:50.57 front just as part of their training but they have grown 00:42:50.60\00:42:55.20 spiritually. Because they've been sharing with others they've 00:42:55.24\00:42:57.07 seen God's hands at work and they've seen answers to prayer. 00:42:57.11\00:43:02.11 You know. There's something about mission service that makes 00:43:02.14\00:43:05.85 a difference in everybody's lives. 00:43:05.88\00:43:08.38 Yes. Now you want to be a missionary? 00:43:08.42\00:43:11.75 Are you looking forward to that? 00:43:11.79\00:43:14.26 Oh, I am. Yes, I am. I'm still asking God if that's His will 00:43:14.29\00:43:17.99 for me and if it is that is what I'm going to try to do it. 00:43:18.03\00:43:21.86 Where would you want to go? Think about it. 00:43:21.90\00:43:24.00 Anywhere God sends me I will go. 00:43:24.03\00:43:27.00 Including Poland? 00:43:27.04\00:43:28.57 Oh yes. Especially Poland. 00:43:28.60\00:43:31.57 Do you speak the language? 00:43:31.61\00:43:33.31 I do. I do. 00:43:33.34\00:43:34.68 So say Happy, will it's not Sabbath, but say Happy Sabbath 00:43:34.71\00:43:38.05 in your language. 00:43:38.08\00:43:39.41 Wesolych sabat. 00:43:39.45\00:43:40.78 Wow! Wow that's nice. So at least you're ready to go to 00:43:40.82\00:43:44.75 Poland and preach there. What were you going to say? 00:43:44.79\00:43:48.92 When she was a Pathways you know all the people that speak a 00:43:48.96\00:43:52.69 different language they get a little placard that says what 00:43:52.73\00:43:56.46 language they speak in case they had somebody that came in that 00:43:56.50\00:43:59.77 spoke Polish then they would serve as a translator. They 00:43:59.80\00:44:02.17 would call up and say we need a Polish translator, right? So she 00:44:02.20\00:44:05.27 had her little Polish...but during that time they didn't 00:44:05.31\00:44:08.61 have an opportunity, no one came in that spoke Polish. But we had 00:44:08.64\00:44:11.78 another student, her mother is Chinese from Malaysia (_ 00:44:11.81\00:44:20.86 Chinese). We had a patient that came in that only spoke Chinese. 00:44:20.89\00:44:27.36 And maybe you can share that... 00:44:27.40\00:44:29.46 I can say ni hao ma. That's it. 00:44:29.50\00:44:33.84 What does that mean? 00:44:33.87\00:44:36.04 Hi, how are you? 00:44:36.07\00:44:38.14 Okay, all right. 00:44:38.17\00:44:39.51 So this lady, she was Chinese. She only could speak Chinese. 00:44:39.54\00:44:41.74 She came to me and she said ni hao ma? And I responded to her. 00:44:41.78\00:44:45.55 I said hao, which is good. And then she just started speaking 00:44:45.58\00:44:49.48 fluent Chinese. And I felt so bad because I didn't know what 00:44:49.52\00:44:52.42 to do. So then she held onto me. She grabbed hold of me and as 00:44:52.45\00:44:57.26 we went on she used Google translator and told me that she 00:44:57.29\00:45:00.16 had to use the restroom. I said all right. So I took her to the 00:45:00.20\00:45:04.00 restroom and it turned out there's two exits to the 00:45:04.03\00:45:05.93 restroom and I waited at one exit and she never came out. She 00:45:05.97\00:45:11.17 went the other exit. And she found one of my classmates, 00:45:11.21\00:45:15.08 his name's Raphael and he took care of her for four hours 00:45:15.11\00:45:18.68 translating through Google translator with the paperwork 00:45:18.71\00:45:24.79 everything. He even prayed with her through Google translator 00:45:24.82\00:45:29.42 saying some phrases and then translate it in Chinese and 00:45:29.46\00:45:34.20 Mandarin and then some phrases. She was very grateful. It was an 00:45:34.23\00:45:39.83 amazing experience. 00:45:39.87\00:45:41.70 And he had a translation placard that said Portuguese because he 00:45:41.74\00:45:47.98 spoke Portuguese, but he ended up translating Mandarin through 00:45:48.01\00:45:53.75 Google translate, you know. I was just thinking in the 00:45:53.78\00:45:55.32 technology we have in the world we live in we can minister in 00:45:55.35\00:46:00.16 in ways that we never could before, right? He prayed with 00:46:00.19\00:46:03.12 her back and forth. She would read it, she would translate it 00:46:03.16\00:46:06.36 and then you know she was very much appreciative, four hours 00:46:06.39\00:46:09.93 working through that and she was here because she had come over 00:46:09.96\00:46:12.97 before COVID and then COVID hit and shut everything down and 00:46:13.00\00:46:16.07 she's been stuck here, not able to go back the China. That's why 00:46:16.10\00:46:18.51 she spoke no English. And she was coming to get medical 00:46:18.54\00:46:21.54 services because she had no resources here or very few. And 00:46:21.58\00:46:25.71 so those were the lives of people that were touched in so 00:46:25.75\00:46:28.05 many ways and even using Google translator. A number of 00:46:28.08\00:46:31.65 the students had similar experiences. 00:46:31.69\00:46:33.19 I want to ask Oscar, what about Pathways impacted you the most? 00:46:33.22\00:46:37.89 I think just the abundance of needs you know. It was just 00:46:37.93\00:46:44.63 amazing to see how many people are not only needing like 00:46:44.67\00:46:49.60 physical help but like support mentally and emotionally 00:46:49.64\00:46:56.61 and spiritually. You know there are so many people that come 00:46:56.64\00:47:01.55 from hard places and you see it everywhere and they just need a 00:47:01.58\00:47:05.42 little bit of comfort and usually, that's all it takes for 00:47:05.45\00:47:08.32 the gospel to be spread. And it was so inspiring because it's 00:47:08.36\00:47:13.23 just like wow. You know God has so much work to be done. And you 00:47:13.26\00:47:19.60 know He gives us what we need to give to others and it was 00:47:19.63\00:47:26.78 inspiring just to...inspiring for me because it was like God 00:47:26.81\00:47:34.42 is calling me to go out you know to do the gospel. 00:47:34.45\00:47:39.55 How many students went? 00:47:39.59\00:47:41.32 So the whole school went except for the four seniors that were 00:47:41.36\00:47:45.23 in Bolivia. All the rest and seven staff and a few of the 00:47:45.26\00:47:49.20 staff families, so we had a group of like 42, 43 or so that 00:47:49.23\00:47:52.60 went. Of the 2000 some volunteers we were a small 00:47:52.63\00:47:56.67 portion of it. Were you all on the bus? 00:47:56.71\00:48:00.94 Well it was a 21-passenger bus and thankfully we had the other 00:48:00.98\00:48:03.08 vehicle so that when it broke down we were able to make a 00:48:03.11\00:48:04.98 couple trips back and forth the last hour and a half and we got 00:48:05.01\00:48:07.35 in at like 1:30 in the morning. Long day but the Lord provided 00:48:07.38\00:48:11.35 and the students saw you know God takes care of our needs when 00:48:11.39\00:48:14.42 we're serving Him. You know there's a...when we were in our 00:48:14.46\00:48:18.36 place where we're staying here at 3ABN there's a poster on the 00:48:18.39\00:48:20.60 wall and it says where God leads He provides. Where He guides He 00:48:20.63\00:48:27.34 provides, right? And that's what the students experienced. 00:48:27.37\00:48:30.01 Now what are some of the things that our audience, our viewers, 00:48:30.04\00:48:32.97 and our listeners could do to help participate in the ministry 00:48:33.01\00:48:36.88 the educational ministry at Ouachita Hills. 00:48:36.91\00:48:38.71 There's always lots of demands. Most important is to pray for us 00:48:38.75\00:48:43.59 The challenges facing education in this generation are numerous. 00:48:43.62\00:48:48.49 You know the devil I think has his cross hairs on schools, 00:48:48.52\00:48:52.93 on young 00:48:52.96\00:48:54.30 people more than anything else because we are told that of all 00:48:54.33\00:48:57.03 the institutions in the world the school is the most important 00:48:57.07\00:48:59.07 That's a bold statement. That's from the Spirit of Prophecy, 00:48:59.10\00:49:01.94 that the school is really where the future is headed, you know 00:49:01.97\00:49:06.98 the training that young people get. And so we need to be 00:49:07.01\00:49:09.91 uplifting all of our schools before the Lord. Of course, 00:49:09.94\00:49:13.82 there's lots of volunteers. We often have people that come 00:49:13.85\00:49:19.09 to the school and volunteer. Retired families or others that 00:49:19.12\00:49:23.02 might have skills. We have several that are teaching in the 00:49:23.06\00:49:26.76 college and in the academy that are retired and want to invest 00:49:26.80\00:49:30.07 in young people, while they still have opportunity to 00:49:30.10\00:49:35.10 contribute. That's another way. Of course, financially would be 00:49:35.14\00:49:39.57 many needs Helping specifically for young people to get involved 00:49:39.61\00:49:43.75 in missions. Those donations go specifically for helping 00:49:43.78\00:49:46.78 students to gain strength to resist temptation because that's 00:49:46.82\00:49:49.18 gained through active service. 00:49:49.22\00:49:50.95 What's the NET again, what's that an acronym of? 00:49:50.99\00:49:53.79 NET is to Nurture students into a relationship with Jesus. 00:49:53.82\00:49:57.49 To Educate them, E, for a life of service and to Train them to 00:49:57.53\00:50:01.46 take the gospel to the world. And really it's the emphasis of 00:50:01.50\00:50:05.27 taking the gospel to the world. Training young people to get 00:50:05.30\00:50:09.10 involved in service. 00:50:09.14\00:50:10.47 Oh I love this, don't you Honey? 00:50:10.51\00:50:14.08 You know and I want to ask just before we go to the break, we've 00:50:14.11\00:50:16.68 got about a minute and 30 before we go to the break. What would 00:50:16.71\00:50:19.08 you say, let's start with Alina, what would you say if a young 00:50:19.11\00:50:23.18 person in your age group is thinking about going to Ouachita 00:50:23.22\00:50:26.55 Hills. What would you say to convince them that this is the 00:50:26.59\00:50:29.02 place they need to go? 00:50:29.06\00:50:31.13 This is definitely a school you can grow with your relationship 00:50:31.16\00:50:34.56 in Christ. If you want a relationship with God and to get 00:50:34.60\00:50:37.80 to know Him personally, one on one connection, This is the 00:50:37.83\00:50:41.10 school to come to. 00:50:41.14\00:50:42.87 Okay, and what about you Jewel? 00:50:42.90\00:50:45.17 I think the biggest thing I learned about the school is 00:50:45.21\00:50:47.74 opportunity. It's an opportunity So if you're wanting an 00:50:47.78\00:50:50.38 opportunity to grow in your spiritual life, to get to know 00:50:50.41\00:50:54.02 more about God and have opportunities to share that with 00:50:54.05\00:50:57.02 other people, I think it's definitely a school that 00:50:57.05\00:51:00.72 provides those opportunities. 00:51:00.76\00:51:03.63 I'd agree with Jewel. You know that's exactly the reason I 00:51:03.66\00:51:08.00 started attending because I saw an opportunity, an open door 00:51:08.03\00:51:11.73 before me that only God opened. I can only give Him the credit 00:51:11.77\00:51:17.11 on this. And I saw this opportunity and I was like a 00:51:17.14\00:51:23.55 great opportunity for me to grow and to be able to not only grow 00:51:23.58\00:51:27.12 personally as a person but grow spiritually, physically, and 00:51:27.15\00:51:30.22 mentally. 00:51:30.25\00:51:31.82 Wow, thank you. Yeah, we have another side of the program on 00:51:31.85\00:51:34.29 the other side of the address roll.
