Welcome to 3ABN Today. My name is 00:01:10.40\00:01:12.33 John Lomacang and I have my better half with me, my wife 00:01:12.37\00:01:16.10 Angela. Good to have you here, Honey. 00:01:16.14\00:01:17.54 So happy to be here. Glad that you have tuned in today. You're 00:01:17.57\00:01:21.58 going to be blessed. Aren't they, Honey? 00:01:21.61\00:01:23.48 That's right. I know...We know the guests that are here today 00:01:23.51\00:01:26.51 We'll tell you a little bit more about that in a moment, but it's 00:01:26.55\00:01:29.48 about missions, it's about impacting the world and the 00:01:29.52\00:01:33.09 singular word that kind of sums it all up is Maranatha! 00:01:33.12\00:01:37.03 Maranatha (singsong) 00:01:37.06\00:01:38.39 Jesus is coming. And you'll find it. If you don't know what that 00:01:38.43\00:01:39.79 means just stay tuned and I would really recommend you hit 00:01:39.83\00:01:42.46 your record button because this is a program that will inspire 00:01:42.50\00:01:46.43 you will challenge you, and will say to you there's something 00:01:46.47\00:01:49.94 that every one of you watching and listening can do to advance 00:01:49.97\00:01:53.94 the cause of God. But thank you for your prayers and your 00:01:53.98\00:01:56.88 financial support of 3ABN as we are going and growing, getting 00:01:56.91\00:02:01.12 ready for the coming of Jesus. 00:02:01.15\00:02:03.49 You know, Honey, Maranatha's one of my favorite ministries. 00:02:03.52\00:02:07.59 That's right. It is. I know hands down. 00:02:07.62\00:02:10.43 We have done Maranatha trips and Friday nights what's our 00:02:10.46\00:02:14.26 favorite program? 00:02:14.30\00:02:16.46 Maranatha, that's right. We look forward to it. And some of 00:02:16.50\00:02:19.53 our favorite people from Maranatha are here today so 00:02:19.57\00:02:21.57 let's just go ahead and introduce them. 00:02:21.60\00:02:22.94 Kenneth Weiss or Weiss. 00:02:22.97\00:02:25.51 It's Weiss but Weiss, I'll answer to that too. 00:02:25.54\00:02:29.14 Welcome. What do you do at Maranatha? 00:02:29.18\00:02:31.35 You know I'm on the leadership team. Well you know the title is 00:02:31.38\00:02:36.08 Chief Operating Officer but you know you get to do whatever God 00:02:36.12\00:02:40.59 puts in the path and get the privilege to be involved and to 00:02:40.62\00:02:44.69 be here with... 00:02:44.73\00:02:46.49 Oh my goodness. Twenty-six years over 26 years. 00:02:46.53\00:02:50.33 And you're getting younger. 00:02:50.37\00:02:51.70 Yeah, I started when I was five. (Laughs) 00:02:51.73\00:02:55.70 Do you have a family? 00:02:55.74\00:02:57.94 I have a family. I have twin boys. They're at Southern 00:02:57.97\00:03:00.94 Adventist University. I have a daughter at Loma Linda Medical 00:03:00.98\00:03:04.05 School. And you know their lives have been changed, the path of 00:03:04.08\00:03:07.95 their lives, because they've been involved again in Maranatha 00:03:07.98\00:03:11.09 trips all their life. Mission is a big part of it. 00:03:11.12\00:03:13.39 And we're going to talk about that, how young people can get 00:03:13.42\00:03:16.19 involved. We're going to talk about the ultimate challenge 00:03:16.22\00:03:17.56 and all that. We'll get back into that program but, hey, the 00:03:17.59\00:03:20.13 favorite couple of Maranatha... 00:03:20.16\00:03:22.60 (Laughter) Absolutely. 00:03:22.63\00:03:23.97 Laurna and Don Noble. Welcome. 00:03:24.00\00:03:27.64 Thank you. Great to be here. Always nice to come here. 00:03:27.67\00:03:31.17 Yes, how long have you been there? 00:03:31.21\00:03:32.54 Ah, this is year number 40. 00:03:32.57\00:03:37.61 What! You Grew up in Maranatha. (Laughter) 00:03:37.65\00:03:39.51 Something like that. Yeah, it's gone by in just a couple weeks. 00:03:39.55\00:03:44.79 Yeah, a long time. But it's been a great blessing, 00:03:44.82\00:03:48.09 a challenge so...And my good wife. 00:03:48.12\00:03:51.09 Yeah, and I've been with Maranatha for about 20 00:03:51.13\00:03:55.36 years I can't believe. So it's been, it has been a blessing. 00:03:55.40\00:04:00.10 Actually, I feel really 00:04:00.14\00:04:01.47 emotional about it if I think about it too long 00:04:01.50\00:04:02.90 so I won't go there. Yeah, God has definitely changed my life 00:04:02.94\00:04:07.64 through something I never would have imagined. So... 00:04:07.68\00:04:09.51 And Maranatha has...Oh we're going to talk about some of the 00:04:09.54\00:04:14.05 ways. I think that Maranatha's like that hub in the center of a 00:04:14.08\00:04:18.25 wheel and it's spokes go in so many directions. We're going to 00:04:18.29\00:04:21.12 try to cover as many as we can today. But it's really good to 00:04:21.16\00:04:24.19 have you guys here. It's fun to travel with you and to see you 00:04:24.23\00:04:27.96 break ground and take over entire hotels, I know what that 00:04:28.00\00:04:32.10 means. 00:04:32.13\00:04:33.47 Oh, I know. Yeah, we loved it didn't we? 00:04:33.50\00:04:34.84 Oh we enjoyed it and we've seen the youngest of people and the 00:04:34.87\00:04:38.04 oldest of people. I never forgot when we were in Maranatha, I 00:04:38.07\00:04:40.31 think it was in Zimbabwe or Zambia. There were two sisters 00:04:40.34\00:04:44.28 that were in their 80s and I said, How old are you guys, and 00:04:44.31\00:04:49.25 they unhesitatingly said I'm 80 something and she's 80... And I 00:04:49.28\00:04:54.19 said what are you guys doing here? And they said what? Do you 00:04:54.22\00:04:55.72 want us to sit home and die in a rocking chair? And they were 00:04:55.76\00:04:57.93 carrying a steel beam. 00:04:57.96\00:04:59.29 On some of the projects those would be the young people. 00:04:59.33\00:05:02.13 Oh, I tell you. And it was just such an energy to be a part of 00:05:02.16\00:05:05.43 Maranatha which I think you have more projects than you have time 00:05:05.47\00:05:09.47 to even accomplish. (Oh yeah) But good to have you here today. 00:05:09.50\00:05:13.01 For the benefit of our audience just the challenge of Maranatha 00:05:13.04\00:05:17.45 was something that all the ministries faced. Let's start 00:05:17.48\00:05:20.72 with how Maranatha continued to thrive and survive during COVID. 00:05:20.75\00:05:25.52 You know COVID has, of course, impacted all ministries one way 00:05:25.55\00:05:30.03 or another. I know it's impacted 3ABN, it has to. Maranatha, of 00:05:30.06\00:05:34.70 course, you take a look at it. A lot of what we do is travel. 00:05:34.73\00:05:37.70 Work with volunteers. Go to other countries. Now how do you 00:05:37.73\00:05:41.47 do that during COVID? How do you make that happen? The surprising 00:05:41.50\00:05:46.57 thing is the way God worked it out is we did about the same 00:05:46.61\00:05:51.61 number of actual buildings and projects during COVID as we did 00:05:51.65\00:05:55.88 before. Well you say how it that possible? You had the right 00:05:55.92\00:06:00.09 question, how's that possible? Well we have local teams in many 00:06:00.12\00:06:05.09 of the countries that we're working in and they were able to 00:06:05.13\00:06:07.93 just keep working in most places And people were supportive so we 00:06:07.96\00:06:12.13 were able to keep building even though for some time not too 00:06:12.17\00:06:16.91 many volunteers were able to go. But since COVID started we have 00:06:16.94\00:06:21.08 had about 2500 volunteers involved which is kind of 00:06:21.11\00:06:24.61 surprising that it's that many. (How many?) 2500 (Wow) just 00:06:24.65\00:06:28.32 during COVID. But we've drilled since COVID started 1100 water 00:06:28.35\00:06:33.96 wells, we've done 1700 projects, built churches for 75,000 people 00:06:33.99\00:06:41.60 That's all during COVID. (During COVID). During COVID. Yeah, so 00:06:41.63\00:06:46.84 God's blessed. You know the work has to keep going. You know you 00:06:46.87\00:06:50.57 don't stop because of COVID. You keep going and doing as much as 00:06:50.61\00:06:54.08 you can. Our goal was if we can do it, if the door's open, walk 00:06:54.11\00:06:58.11 through the door and make it happen. Because I think God's 00:06:58.15\00:07:01.15 leading it and as you look back I believe that that's true. 00:07:01.18\00:07:04.89 Now we're starting to see volunteers more involved in the 00:07:04.92\00:07:07.89 international projects. We had a lot here in the U.S. during 00:07:07.92\00:07:11.63 COVID. 00:07:11.66\00:07:12.99 And John, you said it earlier, God's work has not slowed down 00:07:13.03\00:07:16.70 at all, in fact, through COVID it grew and our requests are up. 00:07:16.73\00:07:21.54 You know. It's just been amazing to watch. People became more 00:07:21.57\00:07:27.44 faithful, they started worshiping in smaller groups 00:07:27.48\00:07:30.28 and each one of those groups then grew and became...then they 00:07:30.31\00:07:34.95 had another request. 00:07:34.98\00:07:36.58 So the perspective is people... when tragedies or, or you 00:07:36.62\00:07:41.96 know an epidemic or something like that, we do turn to God. 00:07:41.99\00:07:44.93 That's how we're built. And so there are some good things that 00:07:44.96\00:07:48.26 come out of that. When people ask us, what have you been doing 00:07:48.30\00:07:50.97 during this COVID thing, we've been doing the same thing we've 00:07:51.00\00:07:54.14 always been doing. We've been drilling wells, we've been 00:07:54.17\00:07:57.67 building schools, we've been building churches and in a sense 00:07:57.71\00:08:00.54 even more so even at a, like trying to kick up the pace, 00:08:00.58\00:08:05.11 you know. 00:08:05.15\00:08:06.48 And praying more, of course, because of the awareness of our 00:08:06.51\00:08:10.82 need has come out more. 00:08:10.85\00:08:12.19 And because I really believe this is God's, this is not our 00:08:12.22\00:08:15.22 organization. Just like 3ABN. It's not your organization. 00:08:15.26\00:08:20.10 It's God's organization and He said go and He hasn't said stop 00:08:20.13\00:08:26.03 yet. In fact, it's almost like, right you got to finish strong 00:08:26.07\00:08:30.91 because we look around and we see like hey things are 00:08:30.94\00:08:33.21 happening. What's going on here? Just keep going until there's 00:08:33.24\00:08:36.75 nowhere to go. 00:08:36.78\00:08:38.11 Well we're a responsive ministry and we don't do any proj...we 00:08:38.15\00:08:42.08 don't make up the projects. We respond to what the church asks 00:08:42.12\00:08:46.22 us to do. We can't do everything they ask us but what we can do 00:08:46.25\00:08:51.03 we want to do. So that's what it's been through COVID also. 00:08:51.06\00:08:55.56 We put together a map or a globe with a point of light and most 00:08:55.60\00:09:04.17 of the projects that Maranatha has built through its history 00:09:04.21\00:09:06.27 and we brought that here to show you guys. We can maybe talk 00:09:06.31\00:09:11.81 a little bit about that. 00:09:11.85\00:09:13.18 As a matter of fact, if you are part of the viewing audience 00:09:13.21\00:09:15.28 while we are looking at this globe that's going to be 00:09:15.32\00:09:18.42 rotating. Tell us what those yellow dots represent. 00:09:18.45\00:09:20.96 You want to go ahead? Don, go for it. 00:09:20.99\00:09:24.43 Well those dots, each one is a project. They look like blobs 00:09:24.46\00:09:28.30 because in some places it's hundreds and hundreds of them 00:09:28.33\00:09:31.43 that are in one location. But you know there's actually 00:09:31.47\00:09:36.71 probably 12,000 to 15,000 dots that are on the globe of 00:09:36.74\00:09:41.94 projects that we have GPS coordinates for and... 00:09:41.98\00:09:45.08 So a project is a school that may service a thousand, 00:09:45.11\00:09:50.95 1500 kids. That's one project. A project may be a church that 00:09:50.99\00:09:55.62 has 50 members. A project may be a water well that serves a 00:09:55.66\00:09:59.59 thousand people. So there's a lot of different things that are 00:09:59.63\00:10:02.63 going on there but each one of these points represents 00:10:02.66\00:10:05.17 something that Maranatha that is everyone, all those people that 00:10:05.20\00:10:10.41 are involved in Maranatha have done together as a group for God 00:10:10.44\00:10:14.64 You mentioned the water wells. You know Don mentioned the 00:10:14.68\00:10:18.98 number of water wells. It's probably one of the more recent 00:10:19.01\00:10:24.49 aspects of what Maranatha is doing to impact the community. 00:10:24.52\00:10:30.13 And water in Kenya at the ends of the earth. A really good 00:10:30.16\00:10:38.80 example. 00:10:38.83\00:10:40.17 Well this right now, I just mentioned I've been here for 40 00:10:40.20\00:10:43.30 years. I'm saying how could I be so dense to not realize this 00:10:43.34\00:10:48.31 issue about water? Because now it is huge and we now have taken 00:10:48.34\00:10:54.18 an action as the board of directors to drill a well at 00:10:54.22\00:10:56.62 every church and every school that we build anywhere in the 00:10:56.65\00:11:00.72 world if they need it. So this year right now we should be 00:11:00.76\00:11:05.23 drilling over 600 wells. And these are deep water wells 00:11:05.26\00:11:09.46 running probably averaging 200 to 800 feet deep to get to the 00:11:09.50\00:11:14.37 pure water. So it's not a small thing. One of the things that 00:11:14.40\00:11:17.34 we're facing right now of course in increased fuel costs, because 00:11:17.37\00:11:21.01 these rigs take a lot of fuel. 00:11:21.04\00:11:22.64 People ask like why water, why? Why would you put water by a 00:11:22.68\00:11:28.55 school or church or whatever. I mean what difference does it 00:11:28.58\00:11:33.56 make, right? And the thing is this is such a unique 00:11:33.59\00:11:36.96 opportunity because people need water more than they need money. 00:11:36.99\00:11:41.23 I mean, how long can you go? Not many days, not many hours 00:11:41.26\00:11:46.33 without water. You need air first, you know, right? But then 00:11:46.37\00:11:49.90 water's really the second thing. You can't go very long. 00:11:49.94\00:11:52.84 And there's so many people, boy I'll tell you what, that if that 00:11:52.87\00:11:56.51 doesn't get their attention and why did you do that for me? 00:11:56.54\00:11:59.28 The government didn't come out here; some other company didn't 00:11:59.31\00:12:03.15 come out here. It was Christians and it was Adventist Christians. 00:12:03.18\00:12:06.55 What are you doing? What do you believe in anyway? Because that 00:12:06.59\00:12:12.69 affected me, that affected my family, my children, my forever 00:12:12.73\00:12:17.10 yeah. 00:12:17.13\00:12:18.47 Yeah we're seeing major growth in the areas where we're doing a 00:12:18.50\00:12:19.83 lot of wells. The church is just mushroom growth. 00:12:19.87\00:12:22.84 When you think about it, it's the Biblical model, right? Take 00:12:22.87\00:12:26.81 care of the people's needs and then they become very, very open 00:12:26.84\00:12:30.41 exactly, to... 00:12:30.45\00:12:32.88 You feel their need, you heal their sickness and then you've 00:12:32.91\00:12:34.28 got their attention. 00:12:34.32\00:12:35.65 That's right, loaves and fishes. 00:12:35.68\00:12:37.02 What did you always say about fishes when they... 00:12:37.05\00:12:39.49 Well you know you can give them fish or teach them how to fish. 00:12:39.52\00:12:41.69 And we've gone to places around the world... Now we're going to 00:12:41.72\00:12:45.66 look at some video here in a little bit that is going to show 00:12:45.69\00:12:48.06 you how the impact is tremendous 00:12:48.10\00:12:49.80 Well yeah the video that we're showing is, it's actually a, 00:12:49.83\00:12:54.30 it's a 25-minute but this is an abbreviated version of that 00:12:54.34\00:12:58.41 so you kind of get an idea. But this is a place that's extremely 00:12:58.44\00:13:02.38 dry up in northern Kenya. It's one of the tough places. 00:13:02.41\00:13:05.68 It seems like we get asked to go to the real tough places. 00:13:05.71\00:13:08.65 Yeah but talk about getting their attention. 00:13:08.68\00:13:10.79 But that's the places that make the big difference, big, 00:13:10.82\00:13:13.66 big difference. Maybe we can watch that. 00:13:13.69\00:13:16.93 It's called, is that Illeret. 00:13:16.96\00:13:19.79 Illeret, northern Kenya. (Okay) 00:13:19.83\00:13:22.16 ¤ ¤ 00:13:22.20\00:13:31.67 In 2016, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in east central 00:13:31.71\00:13:34.48 Africa asked Maranatha to build churches in the extreme north 00:13:34.51\00:13:38.48 Illeret region of Kenya. Maranatha's One Day Church crew 00:13:38.51\00:13:42.25 made a five-day journey from the capitol city of Nairobi to this 00:13:42.28\00:13:45.82 land inhabited by the indigenous Daasanach tribe. The team 00:13:45.85\00:13:51.49 constructed four one-day churches in the area and while 00:13:51.53\00:13:54.10 there became aware of the people's desperate need for 00:13:54.13\00:13:57.83 water. Because of years of drought the only place the 00:13:57.87\00:14:02.44 Daasanach can find water is by digging down 15 to 20 feet into 00:14:02.47\00:14:07.01 a dry river bed and scooping the muddy water that seeps up from 00:14:07.04\00:14:10.81 the earth. 00:14:10.85\00:14:14.52 We had to come back and we began making plans right away to do 00:14:14.55\00:14:18.55 that. It's very difficult, challenging. It's logistically 00:14:18.59\00:14:24.46 difficult. Everything has to be brought up here, your machinery, 00:14:24.49\00:14:28.36 your trucks, your pipes, your fuel, your food, all the 00:14:28.40\00:14:32.53 leadership people. If you forget something you can't run down to 00:14:32.57\00:14:35.80 the store and pick it up. Everything has to come. 00:14:35.84\00:14:39.54 The return trek would take five days across long stretches of 00:14:39.57\00:14:43.65 barren landscape without any roads or repair shops to fix 00:14:43.68\00:14:47.35 mechanical breakdowns. For two days the convoy traveled on 00:14:47.38\00:14:52.05 paved roads from Maranatha's headquarters near the capitol 00:14:52.09\00:14:54.92 city of Nairobi to the town of Marsabit. From there the paved 00:14:54.96\00:14:59.03 road ended. 00:14:59.06\00:15:00.93 We could just go at a speed of maximum let's say 10 to 20 00:15:00.96\00:15:05.73 kilometers per hour, a convoy of 10 cars, full of dust. This 00:15:05.77\00:15:12.54 was very challenging. So the temperatures were 104 to 107. 00:15:12.57\00:15:18.78 It's unfortunate that most of our trucks don't have air 00:15:18.81\00:15:23.05 condition or maybe a blower. We were just running on open 00:15:23.08\00:15:27.09 windows. 00:15:27.12\00:15:29.69 Despite multiple mechanical breakdowns in triple-digit heat 00:15:29.72\00:15:33.33 the convoy made it through 00:15:33.36\00:15:34.70 the Chalbi desert and finally arrived in the Illeret area. 00:15:34.73\00:15:37.90 One of the villages they set to work in was called Ilbagosh. 00:15:37.93\00:15:43.74 Here technologically advanced reports like fracture trace 00:15:43.77\00:15:46.37 analysis indicated that there was little to no chance of 00:15:46.41\00:15:50.11 finding water. Despite the discouraging geological report 00:15:50.15\00:15:55.15 after two hard days of drilling the team hit water. 00:15:55.18\00:15:58.95 Man says there's no water here. God says there's water and there 00:15:58.99\00:16:05.29 was. And when you realize that you are living right in the 00:16:05.33\00:16:10.40 middle of something that's just as powerful as any Biblical 00:16:10.43\00:16:15.17 story. It's the same thing. It is a Biblical story. It's just a 00:16:15.20\00:16:20.24 modern Biblical story. 00:16:20.28\00:16:24.61 Although water was found, like much of the groundwater nearby 00:16:24.65\00:16:28.68 it was salty. It would still be welcome for bathing, hygiene, 00:16:28.72\00:16:33.42 cooking and even for watering animals. But there was a certain 00:16:33.46\00:16:37.56 degree of disappointment that it wasn't completely sweet. 00:16:37.59\00:16:39.46 So this is not without impact even if it stays salty. I mean 00:16:39.49\00:16:44.60 you can read the Bible and can see that God can change the 00:16:44.63\00:16:46.77 salty water to pure if that's His will but it's got to have 00:16:46.80\00:16:51.77 to be done for His glory and then it's obvious that He did it 00:16:51.81\00:16:54.94 That's what I think. And I don't know if that'll happen or how 00:16:54.98\00:16:58.78 it'll happen. It's an ongoing story. 00:16:58.81\00:17:00.98 Just hour later Noble received word that the water turned sweet 00:17:01.02\00:17:06.22 Earlier this morning, I said that the water here at Ilbagosh 00:17:06.25\00:17:11.76 in northern Kenya was going to be salty or probably salty. 00:17:11.79\00:17:15.86 But we come out here today and we find out that the water is 00:17:15.90\00:17:19.83 pure, drinkable and we are excited. 00:17:19.87\00:17:23.74 In total, five new wells in the Illeret area are providing clean 00:17:23.77\00:17:28.41 water to thousands of Daasanach people who no longer must walk 00:17:28.44\00:17:32.21 miles each day for muddy water. At the same time they are 00:17:32.25\00:17:36.25 increasing interest in the Adventist church. 00:17:36.28\00:17:38.82 It's miraculous. Since we didn't know what to expect and here's 00:17:38.85\00:17:45.53 the water that we've been thinking about ever since we 00:17:45.56\00:17:47.96 first came up here. It's hard to explain. It's impactful, big 00:17:48.00\00:17:53.97 time. If you're not impacted you're not alive. 00:17:54.00\00:17:57.64 To learn more about Maranatha's work around the world visit 00:17:57.67\00:18:01.41 Maranatha's website at maranatha.org 00:18:01.44\00:18:05.88 Praise God! 00:18:05.91\00:18:09.75 Now that is a Praise the Lord! He turned the salty to the sweet 00:18:09.78\00:18:14.52 That is amazing. Here you are... Just give us an overview of 00:18:14.56\00:18:18.49 how long it took to get out there. 00:18:18.53\00:18:19.86 Well it was a five-day drive for all those trucks and it was 00:18:19.89\00:18:25.83 severely challenging for all the guys that went up there. 00:18:25.87\00:18:28.64 Here's the interesting thing. A lot of our well crew were not 00:18:28.67\00:18:33.24 Christians that have been working with us for quite a few 00:18:33.27\00:18:35.38 years. These guys have seen a lot of what's happened with the 00:18:35.41\00:18:39.88 wells and the impact on the people. This particular trip 00:18:39.91\00:18:42.68 took them over the edge and six of them were baptized (Wow!) 00:18:42.72\00:18:45.15 on the project, the well drillers themselves as they saw 00:18:45.19\00:18:50.23 what happened. Because what happened here is so phenomenal 00:18:50.26\00:18:52.83 so in your face that it had to be God, it wasn't anything else. 00:18:52.86\00:18:56.70 It wasn't the fact that they were great drillers or that we 00:18:56.73\00:18:59.63 knew so much. It was absolutely God because the guys that were 00:18:59.67\00:19:03.30 checking out, telling us where to drill said do not drill here 00:19:03.34\00:19:06.54 drill over here but the locals said don't drill here because 00:19:06.57\00:19:10.95 that's way off by this old river bed and we don't want it over 00:19:10.98\00:19:14.22 there, drill here. So we said, what should we do God? 00:19:14.25\00:19:17.69 You know and the locals they don't have fracture tracing, 00:19:17.72\00:19:20.26 they don't have all the science and this, that, and the other 00:19:20.29\00:19:22.82 thing and they're like, it'd be a whole lot more convenient 00:19:22.86\00:19:25.59 here. Yeah, this would be nice, this would be better for us. 00:19:25.63\00:19:30.50 but they were praying. I mean, they believe in God, they 00:19:30.53\00:19:32.93 believed that God could do this thing. 00:19:32.97\00:19:34.50 We decided to drill there even though we knew there was no 00:19:34.54\00:19:37.47 water. We said, either they're going to find out that there 00:19:37.51\00:19:40.38 isn't or God's going to do a miracle. Fortunately the later 00:19:40.41\00:19:43.81 became true. And they hit water at 38 meters. It wasn't that 00:19:43.85\00:19:48.18 deep and as you saw, it started salty and it became sweet. 00:19:48.22\00:19:52.05 Yeah, then there's this huge disappointment like oh, it's 00:19:52.09\00:19:56.79 salty water. And you know you kind of like well, you know we 00:19:56.83\00:20:00.60 can still use that, I mean like that really changes your life 00:20:00.63\00:20:05.00 and so you kind of like try to pull yourself up. 00:20:05.03\00:20:07.30 The women of the village grabbed her and they were dancing with 00:20:07.34\00:20:10.61 her. I mean, you want to see excited people. They haven't 00:20:10.64\00:20:13.64 seen water. They had to dig their whole life. Here's water 00:20:13.68\00:20:15.48 coming out of a well. Life changer, complete life change. 00:20:15.51\00:20:20.02 I mean, when that turned sweet that was another thing... 00:20:20.05\00:20:23.18 Oh my goodness. I mean you just get down on your knees. And the 00:20:23.22\00:20:26.09 well drillers who...now these are people who drill wells, 00:20:26.12\00:20:29.09 that's what they do for a living It's not like they've never seen 00:20:29.12\00:20:32.13 a well before. It's not like they've never seen water come up 00:20:32.16\00:20:35.03 out of the ground. And they saw that water turn from salty to 00:20:35.06\00:20:40.24 sweet. 00:20:40.27\00:20:41.60 Let me do one follow-up. 00:20:41.64\00:20:42.97 They knew what was happening. They saw what was happening. 00:20:43.00\00:20:45.31 Let me do a follow-up on this. We drilled five...there's five 00:20:45.34\00:20:48.61 wells functioning today right now for those people that don't 00:20:48.64\00:20:51.78 have to go dig down into the, 15 feet down and then try to dig 00:20:51.81\00:20:56.22 water up. Those people have water. The church has come in 00:20:56.25\00:20:59.19 there behind us and they're doing health talks, they're 00:20:59.22\00:21:03.09 doing all kinds of Bible teaching, et cetera, et cetera, 00:21:03.12\00:21:07.16 and guess what? They're baptizing people by the 00:21:07.20\00:21:11.07 hundreds. (What!?) By the hundreds. 00:21:11.10\00:21:14.54 Praise God! Praise God! 00:21:14.57\00:21:16.17 Why not? And we've got to go back because we just found 00:21:16.20\00:21:19.47 another tribe that doesn't have any water up there, a bigger 00:21:19.51\00:21:24.21 tribe! 00:21:24.25\00:21:25.58 A bigger tribe! 00:21:25.61\00:21:26.95 But these are people. Got knows those people live there. They're 00:21:26.98\00:21:29.88 at the end of the earth. You know the Bible talks about that 00:21:29.92\00:21:32.69 and go to the end of the earth. Well we're pretty much sure that 00:21:32.72\00:21:35.39 we're close to that, when you're out there, right? 00:21:35.42\00:21:38.69 And if you think about the positive that comes from the 00:21:38.73\00:21:42.56 water there's the immediate water impact, right? Then you 00:21:42.60\00:21:46.17 have greater health because you have fresh water, you have a lot 00:21:46.20\00:21:51.71 more time, right? There's kids that aren't having to travel 00:21:51.74\00:21:55.58 five, six miles to go get water. The women have more time. Then 00:21:55.61\00:22:01.32 all of a sudden...There's some interesting things we learned 00:22:01.35\00:22:04.32 when Don and I were there this last summer. We went and we 00:22:04.35\00:22:07.26 looked at one of the locations. I think we even have a picture 00:22:07.29\00:22:10.19 of it. It's a place called Lukenpawnie. We learned that 00:22:10.23\00:22:14.26 with the freshwater that these wells are bringing the 00:22:14.30\00:22:17.70 productivity of milk from the cattle goes up. Well, of course. 00:22:17.73\00:22:22.37 We just hadn't thought of that. So economically it starts making 00:22:22.40\00:22:26.64 a difference. So not only do they move from nomadic, they get 00:22:26.68\00:22:29.48 established in one place, but the whole standard of living 00:22:29.51\00:22:33.48 goes up. So then you have a need for a church and then this place 00:22:33.52\00:22:38.25 where you just saw the video right, one of the first requests 00:22:38.29\00:22:41.66 they said is, We're ready for a school. 00:22:41.69\00:22:44.26 All of the churches that we built up there every single one 00:22:44.29\00:22:46.93 of them that we went to somebody in the group stood up and said 00:22:46.96\00:22:50.67 Got to have schools for our children. 00:22:50.70\00:22:53.34 Yeah, and it was an impassioned plea, actually. 00:22:53.37\00:22:56.10 From just the well. 00:22:56.14\00:22:57.51 Very interesting. You talk to these people about the water 00:22:57.54\00:23:01.14 that they're getting, and they're excited about it, but 00:23:01.18\00:23:03.21 you know what their greatest interest is? (What's that?) It's 00:23:03.24\00:23:07.12 the water for their animals. 00:23:07.15\00:23:09.88 Because the animals provide their food. (multiple 00:23:09.92\00:23:13.09 conversation) 00:23:13.12\00:23:14.46 That's their livelihood and now they don't have to be itinerant 00:23:14.49\00:23:16.96 out looking for water. 00:23:16.99\00:23:18.33 To keep their animals alive which is their food supply. 00:23:18.36\00:23:20.33 We've seen that when we were there their wealth is often 00:23:20.36\00:23:24.63 measured by how much cattle they have, how much sheep and how 00:23:24.67\00:23:26.80 much goats they have and that's their life-sustaining...They're 00:23:26.84\00:23:30.31 not driving to Walmart. They're not going to Raley's for those 00:23:30.34\00:23:35.64 of you who live in California. They're not driving to the super 00:23:35.68\00:23:37.91 market to find what cuts are available. It's in their back 00:23:37.95\00:23:41.25 yard literally. When we visited some families remember you know 00:23:41.28\00:23:45.19 we saw their pen outside which we probably would have dogs in 00:23:45.22\00:23:48.29 it, just household pets. But in that pen is not a household pet, 00:23:48.32\00:23:52.43 it's their sustaining food supply. Tell us about the 00:23:52.46\00:23:55.86 Econga well. 00:23:55.90\00:23:58.60 Ah, Econga, that's in Nucomboni. We have a picture of it. In this 00:23:58.63\00:24:03.81 last summer we had a volunteer project there. 00:24:03.84\00:24:05.77 A number of people went 00:24:05.81\00:24:07.21 and Don and I took a day. We went to go visit with the well 00:24:07.24\00:24:11.45 team and you can see a picture of the well rig. 00:24:11.48\00:24:13.18 It's on the screen. 00:24:13.21\00:24:14.88 Yeah, you have it on the screen. 00:24:14.92\00:24:16.25 What is the yellow? 00:24:16.28\00:24:17.62 So okay let me go to that. The yellow are buckets of water. 00:24:17.65\00:24:21.26 So that's what the women come and refill. And here was have a 00:24:21.29\00:24:24.79 picture of just...there are hundreds of ladies that come 00:24:24.83\00:24:28.76 and bring their...She's got a young child there. They'll pump 00:24:28.80\00:24:32.43 their buckets and then they'll go back. 00:24:32.47\00:24:34.14 They weigh about 40 pounds. 00:24:34.17\00:24:35.50 Yeah, I would like to challenge any woman, or man, to pick one 00:24:35.54\00:24:38.77 of those up and put them on their head for one mile and 00:24:38.81\00:24:42.14 these women walk for many, many miles a day with 40 pounds on 00:24:42.18\00:24:45.98 their head like that. I mean, it is tough. It's tough. 00:24:46.01\00:24:49.85 Well the picture's gone now but there's a church there right 00:24:49.88\00:24:54.16 next to the well and that's where the people come. 00:24:54.19\00:25:00.20 It's just the edge of the church 00:25:00.23\00:25:01.93 So this Econga well, going back, the active involvement of God 00:25:01.96\00:25:09.40 in doing miracles and taking salt water into fresh water, 00:25:09.44\00:25:14.24 here's another example. I mean, this is clear in the other part 00:25:14.28\00:25:17.25 of the country. And there are other wells in the area, so this 00:25:17.28\00:25:23.15 well was drilled...We become calloused right. We're seeing 00:25:23.18\00:25:27.89 this all the time. Well it's likely to be salty but at least 00:25:27.92\00:25:31.76 you'll get some water. Maybe you won't drink it but at least you 00:25:31.79\00:25:35.03 get it. Well, guess what. Members start praying and 00:25:35.06\00:25:39.57 praying the whole drilling process. So the well finishes 00:25:39.60\00:25:47.64 and it's fresh water and a well driller, a Marlin, says hey how 00:25:47.68\00:25:50.68 come you were so sure. It's like, well we've been praying 00:25:50.71\00:25:53.62 for it, but of course, it's going to be fresh water. We don't have any doubt. 00:25:53.65\00:25:57.85 So all their friends and neighbors are like why do you 00:25:57.89\00:25:59.55 have fresh water. Well we serve a more powerful God and that's 00:25:59.59\00:26:02.89 why and we've been praying for it. So the difference is the 00:26:02.92\00:26:06.16 praying. It's really amazing. Here's one for you. What if you 00:26:06.19\00:26:10.97 are in charge of a well drilling team and the well is dry? What 00:26:11.00\00:26:15.30 do you do? 00:26:15.34\00:26:17.64 The people doubt your God. 00:26:17.67\00:26:20.48 Yeah, and do you drive away if the decision is up to you? I 00:26:20.51\00:26:23.95 mean this is their livelihood. Right? I mean they're not going 00:26:23.98\00:26:27.35 to live as long. 00:26:27.38\00:26:28.72 Yeah, we do have some dry wells. We're not a hundred percent. 00:26:28.75\00:26:31.02 Not a hundred percent. 00:26:31.05\00:26:33.59 So those are tough decisions that our people have to do. 00:26:33.62\00:26:36.22 Yeah we did one in a place called Lorata there was a 00:26:36.26\00:26:40.13 picture but I'll just do it quickly. We drilled in I think 00:26:40.16\00:26:42.56 it was 2017. It was dry. It went down seven hundred and some feet 00:26:42.60\00:26:47.64 and didn't hit water. They finally pulled out. And they 00:26:47.67\00:26:51.67 were in the area again a couple years later and the people 00:26:51.71\00:26:56.88 begged them, literally begged them on their knees try again. 00:26:56.91\00:27:00.22 So they tried again. Try again. Try again. The third time just 00:27:00.25\00:27:07.26 what a couple months ago. Went back a third time. It's on a 00:27:07.29\00:27:10.93 main road so it wasn't hard to get to. Hit water at 140 some 00:27:10.96\00:27:16.73 feet, plenty of water, pure, freshwater. So the third time 00:27:16.77\00:27:21.00 they got water. That's crazy. 00:27:21.04\00:27:23.20 Prevailing faith. 00:27:23.24\00:27:24.91 Yeah let me say one more thing about wells before we get off of 00:27:24.94\00:27:28.31 wells. And that is, we have started a maintenance program 00:27:28.34\00:27:32.25 for the wells. Many of the wells that have been drilled 00:27:32.28\00:27:34.68 throughout Africa and even around the world are non 00:27:34.72\00:27:38.52 functioning after they've been put in. Over time the things 00:27:38.55\00:27:41.16 wear out, parts wear out. We have... 00:27:41.19\00:27:43.06 We're just talking about wells in general. All sorts of big 00:27:43.09\00:27:47.46 companies go out there and drill a well. But then what happens? 00:27:47.50\00:27:50.23 You go back 21 years later. Is it still working? Maybe, maybe. 00:27:50.27\00:27:54.34 But has it had any maintenance whatsoever. Probably not. 00:27:54.37\00:27:58.04 That's the maintenance side to revisit some of... 00:27:58.07\00:28:00.61 So we actually have a maintenance program now where we 00:28:00.64\00:28:03.45 visit each of the wells at least once a year or if they contact 00:28:03.48\00:28:06.41 us we'll come in a fix it. So I mean it's a shame. You put a lot 00:28:06.45\00:28:10.25 of money into a well and maybe for a $20 part, it doesn't work. 00:28:10.29\00:28:16.39 So we're going back and making sure that they not just work to 00:28:16.42\00:28:20.00 start with but they keep working 00:28:20.03\00:28:21.36 We're setting the bar as high as we can because guess what this 00:28:21.40\00:28:26.00 does for the Seventh-day Adventist church and the 00:28:26.03\00:28:28.14 membership everybody looks at. Over there it's not about 00:28:28.17\00:28:30.01 Maranatha. It's about the church It's how powerful is this God 00:28:30.04\00:28:35.31 that brought you water here. 00:28:35.34\00:28:37.21 And then they ask what do you believe? What do you believe? 00:28:37.25\00:28:42.92 Who is this God? And that really is the centerpiece. Who is that 00:28:42.95\00:28:49.02 God? 00:28:49.06\00:28:51.13 And that makes a difference. Now the next one we're going to talk 00:28:51.16\00:28:52.79 about is the... 00:28:52.83\00:28:54.73 Wait a minute. I have a question. 00:28:54.76\00:28:56.10 How do you find people you can trust to work out there? 00:28:56.13\00:29:01.64 Well, that's a good question. 00:29:01.67\00:29:04.34 We work through a lot of people before we get the good ones. 00:29:04.37\00:29:09.54 You know over the years we've worked in a lot of countries. 00:29:09.58\00:29:13.65 As we work there and you get to know the employees and the staff 00:29:13.68\00:29:18.39 there's some that are stellar and we keep taking them to other 00:29:18.42\00:29:22.92 We move them around where they become leadership. 00:29:22.96\00:29:28.56 Like the management team. 00:29:28.60\00:29:29.96 We got leaders that work in our countries around the world that 00:29:30.00\00:29:33.84 have been with us for 25 years. (Whew!) Yeah. 00:29:33.87\00:29:37.54 And that's amazing but I want to kind of move on and look at some 00:29:37.57\00:29:40.54 of the other things. Tell us about the Kuotine Campus. Now 00:29:40.58\00:29:43.95 this is a video we want to show. Is there audio with it? 00:29:43.98\00:29:46.05 I think we're just talking over the top of it. 00:29:46.08\00:29:49.75 When we first came to...We can show that Kuotine video. 00:29:49.78\00:29:55.06 There's a before and an after Kuotine. 00:29:55.09\00:29:57.03 When we first came to the Kuotine Campus we were 00:29:57.06\00:29:59.83 up hauled. This actually is a good video of the original 00:29:59.86\00:30:08.44 Kuotine Campus (on a good day) Look they've even done some 00:30:08.47\00:30:11.34 pretty plantings and whatnot. So this is not when we first came. 00:30:11.37\00:30:15.71 Um but the condition of that campus and they had a few 00:30:15.74\00:30:23.99 hundred students there at that time. 00:30:24.02\00:30:25.85 Those pictures make this look pretty good. 00:30:25.89\00:30:27.82 This is what it's changed to. 00:30:27.86\00:30:30.63 But now we're not done yet but you can see the change. And 00:30:30.66\00:30:35.66 we've rebuild virtually every single building and added a 00:30:35.70\00:30:38.77 boatload of buildings there. They had just like an outdoor 00:30:38.80\00:30:43.04 kitchen that they had a rice and bean mixture every day. The 00:30:43.07\00:30:48.04 condition of the dormitories was abysmal. The showers you 00:30:48.08\00:30:55.05 just take...This is young men and women and teenage boys and 00:30:55.08\00:30:58.25 girls taking showers outside, try to visualize this, with the 00:30:58.29\00:31:02.69 small wall around them with just mud and they're pouring a little 00:31:02.72\00:31:07.66 bucket of water over their head. There's two toilets for hundreds 00:31:07.70\00:31:12.23 of kids. Try to imagine the morning routine. 00:31:12.27\00:31:15.07 Oh, not a chance. That is terrible. 00:31:15.10\00:31:17.31 So now these kids are texting their friends. I mean, they 00:31:17.34\00:31:23.58 actually have phones. Who knew? But they're texting their 00:31:23.61\00:31:24.95 friends pictures and stuff like you've got to come here... 00:31:24.98\00:31:28.45 They're the marketers for the school. 00:31:28.48\00:31:29.82 There's a waiting list for that school. So the school has how 00:31:29.85\00:31:34.79 many kids at that school now? (A few hundred) Yeah, I mean 00:31:34.82\00:31:37.89 they've added like 200 kids to the campus and they have a 00:31:37.93\00:31:41.40 waiting list because they really can't take any more. So it's 00:31:41.43\00:31:44.03 just a huge thing. And again circling back, well what 00:31:44.07\00:31:47.87 difference. This is just sticks and bricks and mortar. What 00:31:47.90\00:31:51.14 difference does it make. It makes a difference in the lives 00:31:51.17\00:31:53.07 of those kids and a lot of them are going to meet Jesus Christ 00:31:53.11\00:31:57.65 and develop a relationship with Him. That's what it's really all 00:31:57.68\00:32:02.08 about and 10,000 years from now they're going to be in the 00:32:02.12\00:32:04.99 kingdom and that school is going to be a part of it. You know, I 00:32:05.02\00:32:09.59 mean that's the thing. 00:32:09.62\00:32:10.96 They used to use a third of their budget on water that 00:32:10.99\00:32:12.86 comes in with trucks 00:32:12.89\00:32:14.23 Now of course we drilled a well and they've got all the water 00:32:14.26\00:32:16.33 they can handle and enough to water the grass. 00:32:16.36\00:32:19.10 And the community comes and they get water there from all around. 00:32:19.13\00:32:24.24 So, everybody, I had a young lady come up to me as the grass 00:32:24.27\00:32:27.78 was growing and the...You know it's so beautiful the stuff. You 00:32:27.81\00:32:31.08 know we build the buildings but then what God does on the 00:32:31.11\00:32:33.95 campus. Like you put the grass in, you put the landscaping in. 00:32:33.98\00:32:38.35 You know God's ideas. He's such a great designer right? So one 00:32:38.39\00:32:41.12 of the young ladies came up to me and she said, Did you have 00:32:41.16\00:32:43.43 any idea that this would look so great? And I'm like uh yeah. 00:32:43.46\00:32:50.33 (Laughter) Some of our supporters they ask us so how do 00:32:50.37\00:32:53.37 the kids do? What goes on with that? Well look every time that 00:32:53.40\00:32:58.54 you improve the facilities and you have a place you're proud of 00:32:58.57\00:33:02.44 to be, you feel it's an honor to be there. They focus, they 00:33:02.48\00:33:07.62 study, you attract better teachers and now the kids coming out of that school are 00:33:07.65\00:33:09.65 scoring top in their region and their state and so all of a 00:33:09.68\00:33:13.59 sudden you move them from just being nowhere to being stars in 00:33:13.62\00:33:19.76 that country and then they become lights for God's work. 00:33:19.79\00:33:23.30 Beautiful. What about the Kai Jagdeo dorm. 00:33:23.33\00:33:27.87 Kai Giotto. What an amazing story this is. 00:33:27.90\00:33:32.11 That's a campus of rescue, a rescue campus for girls. 00:33:32.14\00:33:36.31 What do you mean rescue? 00:33:36.34\00:33:37.68 Well, Laurna will explain. 00:33:37.71\00:33:39.05 Well there's certain tribes in Kenya and really surprisingly in 00:33:39.08\00:33:45.29 many countries that have this female genital mutilation or FGM 00:33:45.32\00:33:52.43 and also early childhood marriage so they will be 00:33:52.46\00:33:56.00 married usually by the age of nine. (Nine! Unbelievable) 00:33:56.03\00:34:00.74 And their partner may be in his 20s, maybe in his 70s. (What!) 00:34:00.77\00:34:06.71 So it just depends on who contracted for that child when 00:34:06.74\00:34:09.94 they were born. (Who has the cattle) And it's a contract. 00:34:09.98\00:34:12.85 (That's terrible!) And they are basically a purchased item for 00:34:12.88\00:34:17.59 that man. And there are some young women, and many reasons, 00:34:17.62\00:34:25.96 many, many, many different stories decide they want to 00:34:25.99\00:34:28.90 escape that (Okay) How many do we have there? Over 200? 00:34:28.93\00:34:34.90 (Fully 300) Multiple voices... There was a bunch of Adventist 00:34:34.94\00:34:42.41 women who said...probably started with one or two and now 00:34:42.44\00:34:45.75 there's this huge school and while they've rescued these 00:34:45.78\00:34:49.88 girls they said why not give them an education. Well... 00:34:49.92\00:34:53.66 This probably is the most popular project that we have 00:34:53.69\00:34:56.09 anywhere in the world right now. It's been a huge project. It's 00:34:56.12\00:34:59.16 still going on, people can still go there, we're building a 00:34:59.19\00:35:02.46 complete new campus, Kai Giotto, about an hour from Nairobi so 00:35:02.50\00:35:07.80 it's easy to get to. 00:35:07.84\00:35:10.51 Multiple voices at once. You can see the girls there. 00:35:10.54\00:35:12.11 Yeah, we'll just talk over the top of this, but this is in 00:35:12.14\00:35:17.38 their dormitory and they're here with some of the volunteers 00:35:17.41\00:35:23.92 They just got a new dorm and beds. 00:35:23.95\00:35:25.85 Yeah. You won't believe some of the places they have been 00:35:25.89\00:35:30.63 housed. 00:35:30.66\00:35:33.80 These girls end up here. They learn, because you know 00:35:33.83\00:35:40.24 they start out with their tribal languages, whatever they are and 00:35:40.27\00:35:43.64 here they will learn to read and to write and then often they 00:35:43.67\00:35:50.38 express interest in different trades They're getting a rounded 00:35:50.41\00:35:53.21 education. By the time they come out and graduate from high 00:35:53.25\00:35:55.85 school then they can integrate back in society. It is really, 00:35:55.88\00:35:59.99 really a life changer. 00:36:00.02\00:36:01.76 We just added a secondary school to it. 00:36:01.79\00:36:04.69 A secondary? 00:36:04.73\00:36:06.06 And you know this is like a rolling...we're talking in 00:36:06.09\00:36:08.80 Africa, there's no snow in that particular area, but this is 00:36:08.83\00:36:10.87 like a snowball effect. Talk about the Sue Krueger School 00:36:10.90\00:36:15.14 because the effect is just continuous all over Africa. 00:36:15.17\00:36:18.41 Yeah, that's in India. 00:36:18.44\00:36:20.04 That's in India? Okay we're crossing the continent. 00:36:20.08\00:36:21.64 We're jumping around but that's okay because we're working in 00:36:21.68\00:36:25.31 India. Have been for many, many years. That school is what we 00:36:25.35\00:36:29.15 call an EEC or Educational Evangelism Center. It's got 00:36:29.18\00:36:35.02 classrooms. It's got a center area for...they do church, they 00:36:35.06\00:36:40.53 do meetings of all sorts in these buildings. We've done 00:36:40.56\00:36:44.30 about 125 of them. 00:36:44.33\00:36:45.67 It's like a giant auditorium with classrooms on the side and 00:36:45.70\00:36:48.27 it becomes the center for Christian activity... 00:36:48.30\00:36:53.74 Multiple voices...in that area. 00:36:53.78\00:36:55.91 Look at that. 00:36:55.94\00:36:57.28 And you guys are in there aren't you. 00:36:57.31\00:36:58.65 We were there that day, yes, at as they dedicated that school. 00:36:58.68\00:37:02.08 So they have a handful of students there as you can see. 00:37:02.12\00:37:06.45 (Laughter) And you know you think about each one of those 00:37:06.49\00:37:10.26 kids has a story and each one of them has a future and they're 00:37:10.29\00:37:13.80 going to have kids and they have something send to and teach 00:37:13.83\00:37:17.10 their children as well. So that, like you were saying, really 00:37:17.13\00:37:20.34 goes on and on and on, yeah. 00:37:20.37\00:37:23.51 It's a big outreach. I mean the families that send their kids 00:37:23.54\00:37:25.81 there, they're not all Seventh- day Adventists. They're all 00:37:25.84\00:37:28.04 walks of life. Multiple voices. 00:37:28.08\00:37:29.41 Are there Muslims? 00:37:29.44\00:37:30.78 There are Muslims, they're good Hindus. (Multiple voices) 00:37:30.81\00:37:34.88 But what they're hoping is those families, many of them, the 00:37:34.92\00:37:37.52 parents come there either every day or on a regular basis. 00:37:37.55\00:37:41.42 They're listening to their child say, Mom, why aren't we having 00:37:41.46\00:37:44.49 prayer? Why aren't we praying about this. What about this 00:37:44.53\00:37:49.16 verse in the Bible. You know, this sort of thing and so it 00:37:49.20\00:37:52.70 really is an evangelistic school Real Christian education is 00:37:52.73\00:37:57.64 evangelism. 00:37:57.67\00:37:59.01 You touched on something right there, the schools, the Muslims. 00:37:59.04\00:38:02.51 There's places in Cote d'Ivoire, lot of Muslims in Cote d'Ivoire 00:38:02.54\00:38:05.31 we're building a couple of schools there and the families 00:38:05.35\00:38:09.32 will not send their kids or themselves to any kind of an 00:38:09.35\00:38:13.15 evangelistic meeting. They won't do it. But they'll give you 00:38:13.19\00:38:16.69 their kids at the school. 00:38:16.73\00:38:18.29 Wow. A child shall lead them. 00:38:18.33\00:38:19.66 I'm assuming this next word is maybe Indian, Falakata. 00:38:19.69\00:38:24.63 (It is.) Did I say that correctly? 00:38:24.67\00:38:26.74 (Yeah.) About that structure that you're building. 00:38:26.77\00:38:30.54 It's the same thing as the Sue Krueger School. It's just under 00:38:30.57\00:38:33.31 construction right now. 00:38:33.34\00:38:36.75 Do we have a picture? (Yeah. I think we do.) 00:38:36.78\00:38:38.11 Oh, there it is. 00:38:38.15\00:38:39.48 This is kind of what it looks like. Construction, yeah, it's 00:38:39.51\00:38:40.85 going up, it's going up. 00:38:40.88\00:38:42.22 It's a little bit bigger. That one's 14 classrooms plus an area 00:38:42.25\00:38:46.15 in the middle that will seat 1250. 00:38:46.19\00:38:48.16 What grades? 00:38:48.19\00:38:49.52 Oh, it'll seat about 1250? 00:38:49.56\00:38:52.09 Yes, yes. That school goes from kindergarten to 12 I believe. 00:38:52.13\00:38:56.30 That particular building I believe they're going to 00:38:56.33\00:38:59.63 allocate to the elementary. 00:38:59.67\00:39:01.04 Wow! We were there when we saw that major campus that you guys 00:39:01.07\00:39:04.24 did in Zambia. 00:39:04.27\00:39:05.61 Remember the church, the outdoor church. 00:39:05.64\00:39:07.51 The outdoor church where they were meeting under a blue tarp 00:39:07.54\00:39:09.78 for many years and we met that church mother who said, I've 00:39:09.81\00:39:13.31 been prrraying for years, prrraying, prraying. That was so 00:39:13.35\00:39:15.92 exciting. And we say the police roll up one day. We said, Oh, is 00:39:15.95\00:39:19.15 there some problem here? And they were coming to enroll their 00:39:19.19\00:39:22.22 children. That inspired my wife because what did you do the next 00:39:22.26\00:39:25.73 year when we went out there? 00:39:25.76\00:39:27.46 I got clothes from the kids from our church. I had children bring 00:39:27.50\00:39:31.57 their old clothes and donations. People gave us money to help 00:39:31.60\00:39:36.44 More than $4000 to put kids in school. 00:39:36.47\00:39:40.98 From our church. 00:39:41.01\00:39:42.34 Indistinct words. 00:39:42.38\00:39:43.71 I think that's awesome. 00:39:43.75\00:39:45.08 You know in India we actually have three campuses going right 00:39:45.11\00:39:47.62 now and another one just like the Falakata, the one that's 00:39:47.65\00:39:50.15 under construction and a modular school also. Well we started to 00:39:50.19\00:39:55.49 do...You have to be careful because you want to make sure 00:39:55.52\00:39:58.49 the campuses are going to be successful. Sometimes in the 00:39:58.53\00:40:03.53 past if you don't really study into it deep enough you're going 00:40:03.57\00:40:07.60 make a mistake. So we won't build on any of these campuses 00:40:07.64\00:40:11.71 unless they already have an effective, ongoing program 00:40:11.74\00:40:15.28 that's doing well. They just need buildings. 00:40:15.31\00:40:18.18 Do you have a pastor too? 00:40:18.21\00:40:19.95 Pardon me. 00:40:19.98\00:40:21.45 A pastor, a minister? 00:40:21.48\00:40:22.82 It depends on the school. 00:40:22.85\00:40:24.22 I mean the churches, of course would need a pastor. 00:40:24.25\00:40:26.89 Sure the churches do. The schools like that one is a big 00:40:26.92\00:40:29.66 campus with 2000 students or something, Yeah, they'll have 00:40:29.69\00:40:33.73 not just one pastor. 00:40:33.76\00:40:35.26 But we also do schools for smaller...like we have a modular 00:40:35.30\00:40:39.53 school that so if they don't need a giant building like that 00:40:39.57\00:40:44.21 but you still...we have some photographs of what that looks 00:40:44.24\00:40:47.41 like. 00:40:47.44\00:40:48.78 Is it Immanuel? Immanuel? (Yes) Okay let's look at these two 00:40:48.81\00:40:51.21 photos from Immanuel. One... 00:40:51.25\00:40:52.58 Oh, look at that! 00:40:52.61\00:40:53.95 That's a beautiful campus. Now are those more modular? 00:40:53.98\00:40:55.42 Yes, they are. There's a cafeteria in there. There's a 00:40:55.45\00:40:59.45 couple of dorm buildings and classrooms. The place got our 00:40:59.49\00:41:03.79 attention because the girls' dorm burned down. (Oh!) And so 00:41:03.83\00:41:07.56 they says hey you know we really need help. So we've gone in 00:41:07.60\00:41:11.43 there and of course, replaced the dorm. (Look at that) That's 00:41:11.47\00:41:14.87 a class room right there. And now surprisingly there were some 00:41:14.90\00:41:20.34 donors that got excited about it and the fact that the staff had 00:41:20.38\00:41:23.45 to walk three or four miles each way to find a place to live. 00:41:23.48\00:41:28.95 We're building a number of really nice duplexes on the 00:41:28.98\00:41:32.59 campus for staff. 00:41:32.62\00:41:34.52 Well one of the things to just highlight that is if you don't 00:41:34.56\00:41:36.89 have great leadership at a school what happens? Right? 00:41:36.93\00:41:40.10 And if you can attract great leadership one of the things is 00:41:40.13\00:41:43.87 where are you going to live? You know if you have a better 00:41:43.90\00:41:46.27 place to live for those that are leaders you're going to have a 00:41:46.30\00:41:49.97 better school. 00:41:50.01\00:41:51.34 Absolutely. That's right. 00:41:51.37\00:41:52.71 So one of the things we're trying to do is on some campuses 00:41:52.74\00:41:55.74 where it's really called for we do housing. (Good) 00:41:55.78\00:41:58.51 Now there's a connection with 3ABN connection in this video I 00:41:58.55\00:42:02.25 want to show you right now that our viewers see. It's a 00:42:02.28\00:42:05.15 little more than two minutes and I want to have you highlight 00:42:05.19\00:42:07.82 what that is after we watch it. (Okay, okay) 00:42:07.86\00:42:09.99 Over the past three decades Maranatha Volunteers 00:42:10.03\00:42:19.60 International's Ultimate Workout has taken teams on mission trips 00:42:19.63\00:42:22.57 around the world. But in 2021 Maranatha organized an Ultimate 00:42:22.60\00:42:28.88 Workout in a very familiar location, the United States. 00:42:28.91\00:42:32.65 Each year Maranatha organizes nearly two dozen projects in 00:42:32.68\00:42:39.85 North America and they're a big part of Maranatha's annual 00:42:39.89\00:42:42.89 mission work. And in 2021 Ultimate Workout was part of 00:42:42.92\00:42:47.50 that work by organizing a project in Kayenta, Arizona. 00:42:47.53\00:42:50.97 Kayenta is a small town in the Navajo Nation and the community 00:42:51.00\00:42:54.80 is 95 percent Navajo? A portion of the population are members of 00:42:54.84\00:43:00.88 the Kayenta Seventh-day Adventist church. It was here at 00:43:00.91\00:43:05.38 the church where 77 volunteers camped and built the walls of 00:43:05.41\00:43:08.98 what will be the only Adventist school in the area. Volunteers 00:43:09.02\00:43:18.79 also participated in a number of outreach projects for local 00:43:18.83\00:43:22.36 members in need. While their days were filled with work their 00:43:22.40\00:43:32.57 mornings and evenings were spent in worship which is an equally 00:43:32.61\00:43:35.98 important part of Maranatha's mission, to grow the faith of 00:43:36.01\00:43:39.91 its volunteers. 00:43:39.95\00:43:41.28 The worships have been like nothing I've ever experienced. 00:43:41.32\00:43:45.59 They have been...like every night it's like you feel the 00:43:45.62\00:43:48.42 Holy Spirit that you know that God is in that place. You can 00:43:48.46\00:43:51.19 feel His presence and the music the speaking, just the whole 00:43:51.23\00:43:55.03 atmosphere when everyone has come together is just, it's 00:43:55.06\00:43:59.33 amazing. 00:43:59.37\00:44:01.14 By the end of the project 17 teens decided to commit their 00:44:01.17\00:44:09.08 lives to Jesus. 00:44:09.11\00:44:17.39 Lives always come back different and people are impacted forever 00:44:17.42\00:44:21.19 by going on a Maranatha project. But Ultimate Workout seems to 00:44:21.22\00:44:23.96 have a different impact because you're impacting the life of a 00:44:23.99\00:44:26.86 teenager who have their entire life ahead of them. 00:44:26.90\00:44:28.40 For more information on Maranatha's mission and how 00:44:28.43\00:44:32.10 you can help go to maranatha.org 00:44:32.13\00:44:36.10 Wow! It's a phenomenal video there. 00:44:36.14\00:44:39.57 You know that video you just saw that is a classic example of why 00:44:39.61\00:44:45.08 Maranatha exists. We spent a bunch of time talking about 00:44:45.11\00:44:47.88 buildings but there's a whole other piece and that is the 00:44:47.92\00:44:51.02 volunteer aspect. So here this is a project that's specifically 00:44:51.05\00:44:56.02 focused for young people, 14-18 year olds. And these kids go 00:44:56.06\00:45:01.13 their lives are changed. Sometimes we get a call back 00:45:01.16\00:45:04.63 after the project, says Hey what did you do to my little Johnny 00:45:04.67\00:45:08.10 or Susie because it's not the same one that I sent you. 00:45:08.14\00:45:12.07 And it's that big a change. They get a chance to kind of 00:45:12.11\00:45:15.11 remake themselves a little bit for two weeks or a week-and-a- 00:45:15.14\00:45:18.98 half. They get to experience work. Many of them maybe haven't 00:45:19.01\00:45:24.99 done that. And they move into this non-neutral environment 00:45:25.02\00:45:28.46 zone where their minds are open to the Holy Spirit touching the 00:45:28.49\00:45:34.56 heart and you saw on the video, 17 kids gave their lives to 00:45:34.60\00:45:38.57 Jesus. Some of these kids come from troubled backgrounds. 00:45:38.60\00:45:41.27 I mean they're not all you know the saints. There's a broad 00:45:41.30\00:45:45.31 spectrum there. So volunteering, touching, that is half of what 00:45:45.34\00:45:49.98 Maranatha does. 00:45:50.01\00:45:51.35 Ultimate workout 30 years, over 30 years now, we've been doing 00:45:51.38\00:45:55.08 that project. Now we have children of the parents who went 00:45:55.12\00:45:58.29 on Ultimate Workout when they were kids (growing up). So it's 00:45:58.32\00:46:02.59 pretty cool. Normally they've been international. This last 00:46:02.62\00:46:05.49 year because of COVID we did it in the United States for the 00:46:05.53\00:46:07.96 first time. 00:46:08.00\00:46:09.33 But we did it in the Navajo Nation. 00:46:09.36\00:46:10.70 They didn't know they weren't outside of the country. It felt 00:46:10.73\00:46:13.34 like they were outside the country. 00:46:13.37\00:46:14.80 When we were in Africa for example, I think it was in 00:46:14.84\00:46:16.87 Zimbabwe or Zambia, one of the two. There was a teenager there 00:46:16.91\00:46:19.34 and she talked about how year after year she went to a 00:46:19.37\00:46:21.98 Maranatha project and one year her mom took her to Disney World 00:46:22.01\00:46:24.78 and she said, I hated it. Here I am in Disney World, Mom's 00:46:24.81\00:46:27.95 wasting money and I said, I want to be in Africa. So for those of 00:46:27.98\00:46:30.99 you that have young people that want to give them...See mission 00:46:31.02\00:46:33.82 drives the message. Getaway from the video games. There's no 00:46:33.86\00:46:38.99 self-service, there's no Play Station three or four or five or 00:46:39.03\00:46:40.36 six. And they're out there making differences in people's 00:46:40.40\00:46:43.40 lives and when they leave they go back home and say I've got to 00:46:43.43\00:46:45.77 do this again next year. That's what Ultimate Workout 00:46:45.80\00:46:48.27 is all about 00:46:48.30\00:46:49.64 It gives meaning to your life. 00:46:49.67\00:46:51.01 Oh, it has meaning. 00:46:51.04\00:46:52.37 It did something for me personally. My mother, when I 00:46:52.41\00:46:53.78 was a kid, she was like, Oh you know...I was in my 20s...She's 00:46:53.81\00:46:56.51 like you got to go on one of these trips, you know. And I'm 00:46:56.54\00:46:59.15 like phew, I'm not going. Can I get my nails done there? 00:46:59.18\00:47:03.69 Mya, mya, mya. Then you go and this is something that God does 00:47:03.72\00:47:06.29 to all of us. When you look out and beyond yourself (Amen) that 00:47:06.32\00:47:13.16 is what's satisfying and God has all the keys to making us happy. 00:47:13.19\00:47:17.43 Right? And that's what people find. If they can find that at a 00:47:17.47\00:47:21.07 young age, better (snaps fingers). 00:47:21.10\00:47:22.90 And we have projects...Like this one's focused on young adults, I 00:47:22.94\00:47:28.64 mean on young people. There's some for young adults and then 00:47:28.68\00:47:30.61 another thing that we do, every year we have multiple 00:47:30.65\00:47:33.95 opportunities for families so they can go during the summer. 00:47:33.98\00:47:37.19 We have opportunities in Peru, in Africa, I mean there's lots 00:47:37.22\00:47:42.56 of them. And then Christmas time talk about...Oh my goodness, we 00:47:42.59\00:47:46.56 have many...(Very popular) 00:47:46.59\00:47:48.66 Multiple voices. You look out. 00:47:48.70\00:47:54.24 You do not look at you. 00:47:54.27\00:47:55.60 You become a...(Multiple voices) 00:47:55.64\00:47:56.97 And you get more than...I mean almost every volunteer we have 00:47:57.01\00:47:59.87 says, Oh I went to give but I got so much back. I mean I got 00:47:59.91\00:48:03.95 way more than, you know, I thought I was going to be giving 00:48:03.98\00:48:07.15 and they give me. So. 00:48:07.18\00:48:09.08 You know, it was on one of these trips that brought us to tears. 00:48:09.12\00:48:11.72 as we stayed in our hotel room realizing how blessed we are 00:48:11.75\00:48:14.59 in America. We gave away our clothes, our shoes, our pants. 00:48:14.62\00:48:17.43 I bought new shoes for the out back, I gave them away. My wife 00:48:17.46\00:48:20.26 gave away a lot of her clothes to the wife, we met there. 00:48:20.30\00:48:22.80 Your perspective changes. 00:48:22.83\00:48:24.17 Your perspective, yeah. 00:48:24.20\00:48:25.70 I mean what's the difference between us sitting here talking 00:48:25.73\00:48:29.07 about this versus having to be digging there for a little bit 00:48:29.10\00:48:32.24 of water, right? It's where we were born. 00:48:32.27\00:48:34.48 There's no age limit is there to be a volunteer. 00:48:34.51\00:48:37.65 No. We've had from babies to middle to late 90s that go. 00:48:37.68\00:48:44.85 It depends, yeah. 00:48:44.89\00:48:46.35 I want to kind of challenge you. There are people watching and 00:48:46.39\00:48:48.92 listening, they're saying how can I get involved. We have a 00:48:48.96\00:48:51.09 few more pictures we'll show maybe before we end the program 00:48:51.13\00:48:54.13 but, be specific. How can people watching and listening get 00:48:54.16\00:48:56.97 involved in Maranatha. It's phenomenal, it's life changing. 00:48:57.00\00:48:59.87 It's not going to end until Jesus returns. 00:48:59.90\00:49:03.71 We'll get the address in a moment. 00:49:03.74\00:49:05.34 You know there's a number of ways that...of course over the 00:49:05.37\00:49:10.01 years it's been volunteer and go And that's one very, very key 00:49:10.05\00:49:14.88 way. And if people can do it, they should. A lot of people 00:49:14.92\00:49:18.55 can't. They can pray. I believe that prayer is just as important 00:49:18.59\00:49:23.29 as if you give. God works through prayers. We've seen it 00:49:23.32\00:49:27.10 over and over and over again. 00:49:27.13\00:49:29.73 You have these $10 churches. 00:49:29.76\00:49:31.10 We have $10 churches, yep. That started actually from the dime 00:49:31.13\00:49:35.30 tabernacle I got the idea. Kind of bumped up the ten cents. 00:49:35.34\00:49:39.44 But not that's been over 30 years so maybe we ought to bump 00:49:39.47\00:49:42.68 it again, I don't know. But we build a couple three churches 00:49:42.71\00:49:47.68 every month with people that give $10. So people say well I'm 00:49:47.72\00:49:52.32 not giving much. Well combine it with a lot of people and it's a 00:49:52.35\00:49:55.79 big deal. I did want to mention we do build churches. We haven't 00:49:55.82\00:50:00.93 talked about it tonight. 00:50:00.96\00:50:02.30 Matter of fact, let's just show that picture of the Zambia 00:50:02.33\00:50:04.40 church. That was interesting. 00:50:04.43\00:50:05.77 So we build churches like this where it's very, very basic. 00:50:05.80\00:50:10.44 It's a basic church and we build them because if we see the next 00:50:10.47\00:50:14.51 picture when they build them wrong and they don't have the 00:50:14.54\00:50:18.21 right structural support you see what happens. So this is a 00:50:18.25\00:50:21.78 church that asked us to help them rebuild. This actually 00:50:21.82\00:50:24.52 killed a handful of people in the church. 00:50:24.55\00:50:26.45 Yeah, five people were killed there just a couple months ago. 00:50:26.49\00:50:29.29 We've already committed to rebuilding, well we didn't build 00:50:29.32\00:50:31.89 it in the first place. No. 00:50:31.93\00:50:34.10 So those buildings that look so basic are structurally 00:50:34.13\00:50:39.57 engineered and that is a big difference. But then the church 00:50:39.60\00:50:43.57 people will take them and you won't believe in some countries 00:50:43.61\00:50:45.77 what they'll do with those. We have pictures of that. 00:50:45.81\00:50:48.48 Well let's look at the one in India, the India church. This 00:50:48.51\00:50:50.65 is another example of how churches look when you're done. 00:50:50.68\00:50:53.08 And in India the power of your God gets judged by the solidness 00:50:53.11\00:51:03.09 of your church. So that's why it's important. 00:51:03.12\00:51:05.73 We have a few more pictures. 00:51:05.76\00:51:07.30 I want to see this one in Peru. This is phenomenal, a completely 00:51:07.33\00:51:09.33 different design. Look at that. Multiple voices. 00:51:09.36\00:51:14.34 It actually is a thin structure behind that wall. 00:51:14.37\00:51:17.84 But it's got different lipstick on. 00:51:17.87\00:51:21.04 And also Brazil. Let's look at the Brazil one. 00:51:21.08\00:51:23.41 It's a very similar. Yeah so they do something completely... 00:51:23.45\00:51:26.51 yeah. So it just depends on the church... 00:51:26.55\00:51:30.99 They're free to give a common look to the churches in the area 00:51:31.02\00:51:33.32 so people recognize the Adventist church. 00:51:33.36\00:51:35.16 And you have a planning team and architect. We'll talk about some 00:51:35.19\00:51:37.76 of that on the other side before we end our program.
