Welcome to 3ABN Today. I'm Ryan Day. I work here 00:01:05.63\00:01:09.93 for the 3ABN Pastoral Department Now as always it's a blessing to 00:01:09.96\00:01:13.67 have each and every one of our family, our 3ABN family, joining 00:01:13.70\00:01:16.81 us. We want to thank you so much for your viewership, your love, 00:01:16.84\00:01:19.94 your prayers and support of 3ABN Ministry because we wouldn't be 00:01:19.97\00:01:23.75 here or doing what we're doing without you. So thank you so 00:01:23.78\00:01:26.48 much for allowing God to use you to join with us in efforts of 00:01:26.51\00:01:32.42 sending the gospel around the world. This is 3ABN Today so 00:01:32.45\00:01:36.69 we're going to have a special program today. We have 00:01:36.73\00:01:38.99 Ouachita Hills College in the house with us. I'm excited and 00:01:39.03\00:01:42.76 we're going to be doing some formal introductions but I gotta 00:01:42.80\00:01:45.07 say, How are you ladies and gentleman doing today? 00:01:45.10\00:01:46.43 Doing well. 00:01:46.47\00:01:49.30 All right, all right. We've had a little bit of time to discuss 00:01:49.34\00:01:53.64 and prepare. I'm excited about what we're going to be talking 00:01:53.68\00:01:56.31 about today. We're going to be highlighting all of the 00:01:56.34\00:01:58.95 wonderful benefits of Adventist education as well as giving you 00:01:58.98\00:02:03.08 a detailed breakdown of what in the world Ouachita Hills College 00:02:03.12\00:02:06.45 is and how you can know more about that. So before we get 00:02:06.49\00:02:10.03 into that though we have a very special musical number that's 00:02:10.06\00:02:12.96 going to be brought to us by Miss Farah Barry and she's 00:02:12.99\00:02:16.40 going to be for us A Quiet Place 00:02:16.43\00:02:21.87 ¤ ¤ 00:02:21.90\00:06:34.29 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord Love that. Thank you Farah for 00:06:34.32\00:06:38.86 that beautiful song. Always enjoy her beautiful piano 00:06:38.89\00:06:42.13 playing. Thank you so much. All right. As I said we have 00:06:42.16\00:06:45.87 Ouachita Hills College in the house. I'm excited. We've been 00:06:45.90\00:06:50.27 having some good laughs, a good time here. I want to encourage 00:06:50.31\00:06:52.97 you my friends, if you have any young folk in the room, mommies 00:06:53.01\00:06:56.11 and daddies, everybody, get everybody together because 00:06:56.14\00:06:58.41 this is an opportunity for you to learn who and what Ouachita 00:06:58.45\00:07:02.08 Hills is and what they're about. It's going to be an exciting 00:07:02.12\00:07:05.99 hour together. I'm going to start the introduction, go all 00:07:06.02\00:07:08.62 the way down at the far end of this big table. Of course, 00:07:08.66\00:07:11.36 you're no stranger here Dr. David Shin, President of 00:07:11.39\00:07:15.93 Ouachita Hills College. Always a blessing to have you brother. 00:07:15.96\00:07:18.53 How you doing? This is an honor to be here in this capacity and 00:07:18.57\00:07:22.50 like you said I've had the privilege of coming to 3ABN for 00:07:22.54\00:07:25.41 the last few years as a pastor but recently I've transitioned 00:07:25.44\00:07:30.05 to administration in education and so it's a privilege to be 00:07:30.08\00:07:33.15 able to come here and share about Ouachita Hills College. 00:07:33.18\00:07:35.05 Amen, praise the Lord. So you are the president now of 00:07:35.08\00:07:39.55 Ouachita Hills College and probably a little bit different 00:07:39.59\00:07:44.33 in responsibilities than the pastoral work, right? 00:07:44.36\00:07:47.93 Yeah it's quite a bit of difference and there's some 00:07:47.96\00:07:52.20 parallels and overlap but we moved from Anchorage, Alaska 00:07:52.23\00:07:55.94 to Amity, Arkansas. So quite the transition; in temperature, in 00:07:55.97\00:08:02.31 time zones and so forth. But it's really a privilege to be 00:08:02.34\00:08:06.45 here and to be able to share more about the college and how 00:08:06.48\00:08:09.02 the Lord is blessing us. 00:08:09.05\00:08:10.39 I'd like to second that. I've never been to Alaska. I've been 00:08:10.42\00:08:13.36 close to there. But I grew up in Arkansas so I know that's a 00:08:13.39\00:08:16.93 drastic difference in geography. 00:08:16.96\00:08:19.76 Oh, drastic in temperature, everything. 00:08:19.79\00:08:22.36 Climate, Yeah absolutely, absolutely. You brought some 00:08:22.40\00:08:25.27 guests with you today. We're excited to have Judith. I'm 00:08:25.30\00:08:29.40 saying this. I almost said Judith but it's not Judith. It's 00:08:29.44\00:08:31.27 Judit Magdaleno. It's a blessing to have you Judit. Tell us a 00:08:31.31\00:08:34.88 little bit about yourself, where you're from and your association 00:08:34.91\00:08:38.05 with Ouachita Hills College. 00:08:38.08\00:08:39.51 That's it at the end. You got it right, no H. Just a T. Yes. My 00:08:39.55\00:08:44.65 name is Judit. I am Hispanic. I was born in Mexico but I only 00:08:44.69\00:08:48.76 grew in Mexico for two years. I grew up in the U.S. And then I 00:08:48.79\00:08:53.90 moved to Kentucky where I lived most of my life, most of my 20 00:08:53.93\00:08:58.53 years. And there was this one day that I said a specific 00:08:58.57\00:09:03.91 prayer and with that prayer that's how I got to Ouachita. 00:09:03.94\00:09:07.44 And it's so interesting because God really wants to restore His 00:09:07.48\00:09:12.45 image in us and one of the ways is through education. And I 00:09:12.48\00:09:16.92 remember I was reading through the book Education and I was 00:09:16.95\00:09:21.82 like...you know, all my life I went to public school up until 00:09:21.86\00:09:25.79 college. And it said in true education you're supposed to 00:09:25.83\00:09:31.30 read the Bible. You're supposed to you know pray in class which 00:09:31.33\00:09:34.64 in public school, you don't do. And I was reading this, my heart 00:09:34.67\00:09:40.01 was convicted. I was in my junior year of high school. And 00:09:40.04\00:09:43.41 I said Lord if you want me to receive this education you're 00:09:43.45\00:09:48.38 going to have to open the door because I don't know how, where. 00:09:48.42\00:09:51.49 And there were Adventist schools near where I lived in Kentucky 00:09:51.52\00:09:54.89 but it just wasn't as the ideal the sample that God had, the 00:09:54.92\00:10:02.53 blueprint. And lo and behold, two years later the Lord brought 00:10:02.56\00:10:07.30 people that knew about Ouachita. And I was like, at first I'll be 00:10:07.34\00:10:12.17 honest, I was super reluctant. And I was like in the middle of 00:10:12.21\00:10:15.44 nowhere, no internet, and like out in the boonies. And so I 00:10:15.48\00:10:21.62 will say it's been a privilege, an honor to see how the Lord has 00:10:21.65\00:10:26.65 brought me from where I was to where I am now. And currently 00:10:26.69\00:10:31.23 I did graduate from Ouachita so I'm an alumni and I'm also 00:10:31.26\00:10:36.53 an administrative assistant since I already graduated. 00:10:36.56\00:10:37.90 I work for the school now. 00:10:37.93\00:10:39.27 Praise the Lord. That is so awesome, that is so awesome. 00:10:39.30\00:10:42.27 Great testimony and I can relate to you on that whole education 00:10:42.30\00:10:44.67 experience because I as well also went to public school all 00:10:44.71\00:10:48.58 of my life until college. That's when I got my feet wet in 00:10:48.61\00:10:53.18 Adventist education in college. But I can tell you it's... 00:10:53.21\00:10:55.55 there's a blessing to it. It was one of the experiential facts 00:10:55.58\00:10:59.42 but at the same time Education as we're going to find out in 00:10:59.45\00:11:01.89 just a moment for Pastor or Dr. Shin here. We're going to talk 00:11:01.92\00:11:04.93 about the philosophy of Adventist education, the purpose 00:11:04.96\00:11:07.60 and I can tell you it's a blessing that I missed out on a 00:11:07.63\00:11:11.13 lot of my childhood upbringing but powerful story. But we're 00:11:11.17\00:11:14.60 not finished yet with introduction because we have 00:11:14.64\00:11:16.40 Miss Sarah Mc Roberts. And Sarah tell us a little bit about 00:11:16.44\00:11:19.87 yourself, where you're from and your association with Ouachita 00:11:19.91\00:11:23.41 Hills College. 00:11:23.45\00:11:24.85 Yeah, so I was actually born in Virginia. I lived for a long 00:11:24.88\00:11:28.15 time in Colorado for nine years and then we moved to Florida 00:11:28.18\00:11:31.69 where I'm living currently and most recently now I go to 00:11:31.72\00:11:35.09 Ouachita Hills College. I'm a freshman there and I'm studying 00:11:35.12\00:11:38.89 music. 00:11:38.93\00:11:40.26 Music. All right, all right. I like music. So just...We're 00:11:40.30\00:11:43.73 probably going to get back to this in a little bit more detail 00:11:43.77\00:11:45.83 in just a moment but what's your experience so far? What do you 00:11:45.87\00:11:48.40 think about it? 00:11:48.44\00:11:49.77 Oh, it's been such a blessing. Ouachita's really been a place 00:11:49.80\00:11:52.47 where I can grow spiritually, physically and the staff is 00:11:52.51\00:11:56.68 amazing and coming from a family who actually grew up 00:11:56.71\00:11:59.88 homeschooling and just transitioning to Ouachita 00:11:59.91\00:12:03.05 College has been very easy because of the loving staff and 00:12:03.08\00:12:07.12 just the spiritual atmosphere there and the mission-minded 00:12:07.16\00:12:09.62 students. It's been such a blessing. 00:12:09.66\00:12:11.23 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord I have friends who have attended 00:12:11.26\00:12:14.36 Ouachita Hills College and every one of them have said it 00:12:14.40\00:12:17.43 just changed their life. So Dr. Shin, I've got to come to you 00:12:17.47\00:12:20.90 now. There may be someone watching right now that says 00:12:20.94\00:12:24.61 Ouachita Hills College and they keep hearing Adventist education 00:12:24.64\00:12:29.04 You know this is a Seventh-day Adventist College. And so what 00:12:29.08\00:12:35.15 really...Let's talk about the philosophy of Adventist 00:12:35.18\00:12:36.95 education and what sets it apart from the other educational 00:12:36.99\00:12:41.32 opportunities that the world has to offer? Just kind of expound 00:12:41.36\00:12:43.83 on that for a little while. 00:12:43.86\00:12:45.29 Yes, yes. I'll get to the philosophy of Adventist 00:12:45.33\00:12:49.06 education. I just have to add a couple notes here. Judit is the 00:12:49.10\00:12:50.43 administrative assistant to the president. Yeah, yeah. So she 00:12:50.47\00:12:55.17 keeps me together. I mean brilliant logistics and she's 00:12:55.20\00:13:00.28 got a logistical mind background in business. She's a business 00:13:00.31\00:13:03.01 major and grad. She's being very modest. I got to add that and 00:13:03.04\00:13:08.95 Sarah, interesting fact about Sarah. I went to college with 00:13:08.98\00:13:12.25 Sarah's mom. Don't let this face fool you. I've found the secret 00:13:12.29\00:13:18.03 of the fountain of youth. Twenty years ago, 20 years ago, I went 00:13:18.06\00:13:22.83 to school with Sarah's mom, Reluca. Amazing canvasser, we 00:13:22.86\00:13:27.64 big booked together selling Bible Story books in New England 00:13:27.67\00:13:31.74 and it's surreal to have someone I went to college with, their 00:13:31.77\00:13:35.98 daughter is now a freshman in the college that I happen to be 00:13:36.01\00:13:38.41 president of. So that's the back story there. But Sarah is 00:13:38.45\00:13:41.92 an amazing violinist and we've been creating sacred music 00:13:41.95\00:13:47.42 videos in that regard. So just a couple details to add some 00:13:47.46\00:13:52.83 dimension there. But yes, going back to your question about 00:13:52.86\00:13:57.53 what is Seventh-day Adventist education, what is the 00:13:57.57\00:14:00.64 philosophy of Christian education. And there's a book on 00:14:00.67\00:14:04.84 education by Ellen White that is foundational to the philosophy 00:14:04.87\00:14:08.98 of Adventist education and she says in chapter one, she says 00:14:09.01\00:14:12.21 that in the highest sense the work of education and the work 00:14:12.25\00:14:16.45 of redemption are one. In other words, education equals 00:14:16.48\00:14:23.46 salvation. She says that it not only has to do with this life 00:14:23.49\00:14:26.59 but the life to come. The service that we have in this 00:14:26.63\00:14:30.87 life and the greater joy of service in the life to come. She 00:14:30.90\00:14:34.37 indicates that our educational perspective is too narrow. 00:14:34.40\00:14:38.61 It just takes into consideration the 70, 80, 90 years of 00:14:38.64\00:14:42.48 existence you know. I mean typically you go to any 00:14:42.51\00:14:45.98 educational endeavor today and it's like hey you go out there, 00:14:46.01\00:14:49.95 get your education so that you can get your job so that you can 00:14:49.98\00:14:57.19 get the house in the suburbs with the white picket fence and 00:14:57.23\00:15:01.56 the golden retriever and you drive your SUV and you have your 00:15:01.60\00:15:06.94 2.5 kids. There is no such thing but it's a statistic. You have 00:15:06.97\00:15:10.67 your two kids and you have your home and then you build your 00:15:10.71\00:15:13.01 nice little nest egg and then you retire and then you die. 00:15:13.04\00:15:18.21 So that's kind of the vision of education. Now there's nothing 00:15:18.25\00:15:23.85 inherently wrong with those types of things but the book 00:15:23.89\00:15:27.79 Education indicates that that's too narrow. In other words our 00:15:27.82\00:15:31.29 educational endeavor needs to take into consideration the 00:15:31.33\00:15:33.93 total possible existence, the potential of existence possible 00:15:33.96\00:15:40.00 to man. Eternity, eternity. So if your educational endeavor is 00:15:40.04\00:15:43.51 only preparing you for 70, 80, 90 years of existence versus 00:15:43.54\00:15:48.38 eternity it takes on a totally different frame. You know. And 00:15:48.41\00:15:52.15 that's a revolutionary paradigm, revolutionary paradigm. So it's 00:15:52.18\00:15:57.39 not even apples to oranges. It's like...I don't know what the 00:15:57.42\00:16:01.56 analogy is but it's a totally different perspective in terms 00:16:01.59\00:16:05.33 of the focus and the emphasis. So if education equal salvation 00:16:05.36\00:16:11.20 automatically we need to come to the conclusion that if our 00:16:11.23\00:16:16.04 education is going to diminish our love for Christ is going to 00:16:16.07\00:16:21.94 take away our relish for spiritual things is going to 00:16:21.98\00:16:25.58 make us more challenged spiritually or even degrade our 00:16:25.61\00:16:30.72 spiritual sensibilities or lead us into a lifestyle of sin and 00:16:30.75\00:16:35.76 licentiousness or if we're going to have to have an education 00:16:35.79\00:16:38.29 in which we have to choose between making it in society 00:16:38.33\00:16:44.03 versus having a relationship with Christ according to 00:16:44.07\00:16:46.57 scripture that's a false education because ultimately 00:16:46.60\00:16:50.31 the work of education is the work of salvation. Your 00:16:50.34\00:16:53.48 education should save you, should save you and so the 00:16:53.51\00:16:57.28 perspective of education goes beyond just a career. It has to 00:16:57.31\00:17:02.52 do with a calling. It has to do with service. It has to do with 00:17:02.55\00:17:07.52 sacrifice. And so when we think about education and we look at 00:17:07.56\00:17:11.33 the history of education every time there has been a revolution 00:17:11.36\00:17:15.70 it's always been linked back to education. There's a statement 00:17:15.73\00:17:18.97 that says change the university and you change the world. In 00:17:19.00\00:17:22.30 other words if you want to change society, if you want to 00:17:22.34\00:17:26.88 impact civilization you start with education. And the greatest 00:17:26.91\00:17:30.05 educator in history, Jesus Christ, look what he does. He 00:17:30.08\00:17:34.52 comes on this earth and for three-and-a-half years he takes 00:17:34.55\00:17:39.32 a bunch of losers, quote unquote, from the perspective of 00:17:39.35\00:17:43.69 the world. Jesus doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the 00:17:43.73\00:17:46.80 called. So he takes a bunch of these uncouth, rough, unrefined 00:17:46.83\00:17:53.60 men and he says follow me for three and a half years. 00:17:53.64\00:17:58.77 He changes the world. Turns the world upside down and afterward 00:17:58.81\00:18:06.41 in the book of Acts when Peter and John were speaking before 00:18:06.45\00:18:09.28 the Sanhedrin they were like, now we've seen this before. 00:18:09.32\00:18:12.42 And the Bible says They took note of them that they had been 00:18:12.45\00:18:16.16 with Jesus. And that's the ultimate goal of education. 00:18:16.19\00:18:20.06 To make us like Jesus. Education is powerful. 00:18:20.10\00:18:25.30 Yes, it is. 00:18:25.33\00:18:26.67 And you want to revolutionize society and change the world you 00:18:26.70\00:18:29.54 do it through education. Now look at the history of education 00:18:29.57\00:18:32.17 Typically when it comes to Biblical education even from the 00:18:32.21\00:18:36.14 beginning, all right, it starts in heaven, two philosophies of 00:18:36.18\00:18:39.25 education, propaganda of Satan versus truth. So the division 00:18:39.28\00:18:43.02 was already in heaven. It comes down to earth. And then after 00:18:43.05\00:18:46.49 the fall you can see two lines of education coming down 00:18:46.52\00:18:49.49 through scripture. The descendants of Seth versus the 00:18:49.52\00:18:53.60 descendants of Cain. The descendants of Cain congregated 00:18:53.63\00:18:56.93 in cities. The descendants of Seth were in the country. And 00:18:56.97\00:19:00.24 you have that lineage that continues on the schools of 00:19:00.27\00:19:02.37 the prophets and down through Jesus's day. And as Sarah 00:19:02.40\00:19:06.17 mentioned she's home schooled. Nothing wrong with that, good 00:19:06.21\00:19:09.51 company. Jesus was home schooled Interesting. (That's right) And 00:19:09.54\00:19:13.38 now we're not against conventional education, we're 00:19:13.42\00:19:15.38 not espousing that but what I'm pointing out is many times when 00:19:15.42\00:19:18.42 you look at the education of the world versus the education such 00:19:18.45\00:19:22.59 as in the case of Jesus. Sometimes there can be this 00:19:22.62\00:19:25.93 idea of like hey that's unusual. Or even a stigma that can be 00:19:25.96\00:19:33.17 associated, right? So it's kind of like...remember Jesus when he 00:19:33.20\00:19:36.81 was growing up and even in his ministry they're like how does 00:19:36.84\00:19:40.38 this man have learning having never learned? He didn't go to 00:19:40.41\00:19:44.31 school to the rabbis. And so you can see that typically from a 00:19:44.35\00:19:48.48 worldly perspective even in the time of Jesus if you're going to 00:19:48.52\00:19:54.09 raise a world changer it can't be a conventional education. 00:19:54.12\00:19:59.39 That's right. 00:19:59.43\00:20:00.76 You're going to keep getting the same results. But in order to 00:20:00.80\00:20:03.67 raise the individual that's going to change the world 00:20:03.70\00:20:05.90 forever, Jesus Christ, unconventional, even stigmatized 00:20:05.93\00:20:12.31 And he was raised up. Look at John the Baptist...out in the 00:20:12.34\00:20:17.88 wilderness, dress reform. come on now, health reform. You know 00:20:17.91\00:20:23.45 he was eating a little bit differently and this guy came 00:20:23.49\00:20:26.15 out and the book Desire of Ages indicates that if he had gone to 00:20:26.19\00:20:29.09 the school of the rabbis it would have unfit him for service 00:20:29.12\00:20:34.00 Unfit him for service. So you can see that in our world today 00:20:34.03\00:20:39.57 the morals are falling apart. School shootings. There are 00:20:39.60\00:20:46.14 places where you can't even pray in school. Transgender, all 00:20:46.17\00:20:51.18 gender, no gender. I mean this is the society that we're 00:20:51.21\00:20:53.92 living in, growing up in today and there's an educational 00:20:53.95\00:20:57.49 system that is being raised up to raise up a generation in the 00:20:57.52\00:21:00.86 end of time that's going to receive the mark of the beast. 00:21:00.89\00:21:03.26 You have to believe that God has an educational system too that 00:21:03.29\00:21:08.76 is preparing a people to receive the seal of God. And that is the 00:21:08.80\00:21:13.80 foot race in the end of time and that's why when I received a 00:21:13.84\00:21:17.94 call to...Look let me be honest. I never dreamed, I never desired 00:21:17.97\00:21:26.21 to be president of an institution. I mean if you're in 00:21:26.25\00:21:30.52 right mind, you don't covet these positions. And I certainly 00:21:30.55\00:21:34.06 didn't. I thought one day when my son Hudson, who's now five, 00:21:34.09\00:21:37.23 no, he's going to be five, I said oh maybe one day when he's 00:21:37.26\00:21:40.60 you know, around academy age I'll go and get on my knees and 00:21:40.63\00:21:44.93 beg the academy to go and teach Bible someday and when he goes 00:21:44.97\00:21:48.87 to college do that, but now when the call came to be president of 00:21:48.90\00:21:55.14 the college I was like all right Lord, um I'll do it. Not because 00:21:55.18\00:22:02.75 I'm qualified, he qualifies the called but in the end I 00:22:02.78\00:22:08.29 recognized that for such a time as this. There's a need to 00:22:08.32\00:22:13.03 raise up a generation of young people that don't fear to call 00:22:13.06\00:22:20.00 sin by its right name. Like the book Education say, who stand 00:22:20.04\00:22:23.14 for the right though the heavens fall, are true to duty as the 00:22:23.17\00:22:27.21 compass needle is to the north pole. I generation who'd rather 00:22:27.24\00:22:31.71 die than lie and dishonor God. That's the passion that I have 00:22:31.75\00:22:37.12 for education and individuals like Judit and Sarah is what 00:22:37.15\00:22:44.33 keeps me going. Because you can see as you contribute to an 00:22:44.36\00:22:50.13 environment, lead an organization, teach in the 00:22:50.17\00:22:53.10 classroom and you sense the young people grasping and 00:22:53.13\00:22:59.37 developing these ideas. Education's tough. It takes time 00:22:59.41\00:23:03.75 But in the end, you can't minimize the impact of what 00:23:03.78\00:23:11.35 education does. 00:23:11.39\00:23:12.92 Oh absolutely, absolutely. You can take that whole segment, 00:23:12.95\00:23:14.92 everything that you just said... This whole program's going to 00:23:14.96\00:23:18.36 post on YouTube and be out there on 3ABN Plus. We just need to 00:23:18.39\00:23:21.40 just trim that one little segment down that you just went 00:23:21.43\00:23:23.83 through and tweak that, Facebook that because the world needs to 00:23:23.87\00:23:26.87 hear that beautiful explanation. You know, Judit I just want to 00:23:26.90\00:23:29.74 come to you for just a moment because you can relate to a lot 00:23:29.77\00:23:31.97 of what he said. I know as you were speaking I'm over here just 00:23:32.01\00:23:36.21 going through my history and I can tell you, being raised in a 00:23:36.24\00:23:41.05 public school system especially within our culture which says 00:23:41.08\00:23:45.32 you know here's religion and here's education. They're two 00:23:45.35\00:23:47.89 different things and you certainly shouldn't amalgamate 00:23:47.92\00:23:51.39 the two. And understand I'm not trying to in any way trying to 00:23:51.43\00:23:54.80 violate the principle of the freedom or our constitution 00:23:54.83\00:23:57.03 but yet at the same time even our founding fathers understood 00:23:57.07\00:24:00.34 that once you take religion out of our country, take religion 00:24:00.37\00:24:03.47 out of our educational experiences then we would start 00:24:03.51\00:24:07.68 going downhill. And I can just go back and just rethink back my 00:24:07.71\00:24:11.88 experience growing up the educational system was built, it 00:24:11.91\00:24:15.18 was designed to tear me away from my God. And it wasn't until 00:24:15.22\00:24:18.95 my adult years, until I got out of it. Praise God, have mercy on 00:24:18.99\00:24:23.69 me. I look back now and I say God thank you that you got me 00:24:23.73\00:24:26.39 back on track, because I as heading down a hill, and I know 00:24:26.43\00:24:29.16 you probably had that same experience. Now coming into 00:24:29.20\00:24:31.53 Ouachita Hills, it had to have been somewhat of a shock for 00:24:31.57\00:24:34.27 you, kind of a culture religious shock. Talk a little bit about 00:24:34.30\00:24:36.94 that. 00:24:36.97\00:24:38.31 Definitely. And you know even as Dr. Shin was sharing some of 00:24:38.34\00:24:42.94 these thoughts are coming in because it's true. I went to a 00:24:42.98\00:24:45.45 public school. I had straight A's. I was going to get my 00:24:45.48\00:24:50.65 scholarship fully paid for college. People knew me. I used 00:24:50.69\00:24:55.62 to cuss. I used to dress entirely different. 00:24:55.66\00:24:58.69 Same here. 00:24:58.73\00:25:00.06 National Honor Society, you name it. I wasn't a student that was 00:25:00.10\00:25:04.07 like you know like not getting good grades or anything. And it 00:25:04.10\00:25:08.17 got to the point that in my school there was a student that 00:25:08.20\00:25:12.07 was going through that trans gender process and he fought for 00:25:12.11\00:25:16.54 it, he really did. And so he's like I'm a lady, I get to go 00:25:16.58\00:25:20.05 into the women's restroom and so he would go in. And to me 00:25:20.08\00:25:25.09 that was a shocker. You know we study about these things, Great 00:25:25.12\00:25:28.46 Controversy, we see it in the Bible that men shall be lovers 00:25:28.49\00:25:31.59 of themselves more than God and aren't following God's commands. 00:25:31.63\00:25:36.40 And so when I'm seeing this I was like Father, I'm in this 00:25:36.43\00:25:42.54 system. What am I going to do about it? And I will tell you 00:25:42.57\00:25:45.47 that even though I grew up in an Adventist home. Bible, like 00:25:45.51\00:25:51.51 was my only day off because Sundays we would have prayer 00:25:51.55\00:25:56.15 groups, Wednesday was Pathfinders, Thursday I had 00:25:56.18\00:25:59.02 piano lessons, Friday is vespers Sabbath is spend time with Jesus 00:25:59.05\00:26:02.92 Even people that are within the Adventist circle and they know 00:26:02.96\00:26:09.43 about this, if they don't take education as Dr. Shin was saying 00:26:09.46\00:26:14.10 that the work of redemption and the work of education are one. 00:26:14.14\00:26:18.71 You can be lost even if you're having the Adventist education. 00:26:18.74\00:26:24.91 And when I started hearing about Ouachita I'm like wow. They 00:26:24.95\00:26:32.75 started telling me about canvassing. I didn't know what a 00:26:32.79\00:26:35.46 canvasser was. I was like painting. 00:26:35.49\00:26:37.56 I bet you thought you paint on that. 00:26:37.59\00:26:38.93 I thought it was painting. I mean I can draw. 00:26:38.96\00:26:42.06 (Indistinguishable conversation) And so my mind 00:26:42.10\00:26:43.43 starts being opened. It's like no, you go door to door. You 00:26:46.43\00:26:50.77 talk to people, you don't know. You pray with people you don't 00:26:50.81\00:26:53.44 know. And at that point when I was in public school I was at 00:26:53.48\00:26:57.28 the point where talking about my faith I was ashamed about it. I 00:26:57.31\00:27:01.22 was. I did everything that everybody else did because that 00:27:01.25\00:27:07.32 was just the environment I was raised in. And so once you know 00:27:07.36\00:27:13.13 I said the prayer as I already had mentioned then the Lord 00:27:13.16\00:27:16.03 starts, All right Judit you want to get your education? Let me 00:27:16.06\00:27:18.90 open the door for you. And so you know these people...I went 00:27:18.93\00:27:23.27 to a church that I usually never go to, I meet them, their speech 00:27:23.30\00:27:28.21 is different, their dress is different. They're saying hi to 00:27:28.24\00:27:31.18 everybody at church. And I was like wow Lord, like that's what 00:27:31.21\00:27:35.95 I want. That's what I want. And And so then I started to get 00:27:35.98\00:27:40.02 everything ready. And they're like you know in order for you 00:27:40.06\00:27:42.46 to get your schooling you've got to raise this amount of money. 00:27:42.49\00:27:45.26 And I'm like how am I going to get that. My parents are...you 00:27:45.29\00:27:49.93 know, we're not financially strong. And they're like, go 00:27:49.96\00:27:53.47 canvassing. Okay, all right. And I said Lord if you want me to go 00:27:53.50\00:27:57.37 to Ouachita Hill, you're going to have to raise this money. And 00:27:57.41\00:27:59.57 school was starting two-and-a- half weeks before I started 00:27:59.61\00:28:04.35 canvassing. So in this two-and- a-half weeks the Lord had to 00:28:04.38\00:28:09.12 raise about $1,500. Mind you, I'm a new canvasser. For people 00:28:09.15\00:28:12.29 who know about canvassing it's an art that the Holy Spirit 00:28:12.32\00:28:17.96 teaches you how to canvass. There's an eloquence that the 00:28:17.99\00:28:22.56 Holy Spirit gives to the person and I was like all right Lord 00:28:22.60\00:28:24.83 like how are we going to do this? So there goes the first 00:28:24.87\00:28:29.50 part of education you know. Learning how to share your faith. What is it that you 00:28:29.54\00:28:34.54 believe in and why? Can you stand up for it. Are you making 00:28:34.58\00:28:37.91 your own decisions because you're making it or because 00:28:37.95\00:28:44.09 that's the pressure. Even though it's a good pressure, but you 00:28:44.12\00:28:46.15 have to come down to the point that this is my decision. And I 00:28:46.19\00:28:51.29 will say that my first semester I was going to leave. It was 00:28:51.33\00:29:01.04 different the food. Everybody was supposed to be in bed by 00:29:01.07\00:29:02.57 9:30. I was used to going to bed at 3 A.M. Social media was my 00:29:02.60\00:29:08.14 thing. There's not a lot of good signal there. So that's why...(laughter and 00:29:08.18\00:29:16.08 (indistinguishable conversation) 00:29:16.12\00:29:17.45 And so everybody_ experience. Yeah you're about to 00:29:17.49\00:29:23.56 be pristine college, get you know, your dream job, your dream 00:29:23.59\00:29:29.10 car, you raise your family. But God is like I'm trying to have 00:29:29.13\00:29:31.87 you live through eternity. I'm not trying to have you just live 00:29:31.90\00:29:37.04 for you know your 70 average years that the human race lives 00:29:37.07\00:29:42.38 up to. So yes I definitely yeah... 00:29:42.41\00:29:45.85 That is just...You are living proof that the Lord can take us 00:29:45.88\00:29:49.25 out of that you know because everything you're saying, I'm 00:29:49.28\00:29:51.42 just like yep that's me, yep that's me, yep that's me because 00:29:51.45\00:29:53.79 that was me as well. I grew up as a pastor's son. I was in the 00:29:53.82\00:29:56.62 church but I was not connected to Christ so I...You know the 00:29:56.66\00:30:00.73 educational experience played a huge role in my lukewarmness and 00:30:00.76\00:30:04.47 my having one leg in the church and one leg in the world. So 00:30:04.50\00:30:07.20 yeah absolutely. Judit, or excuse me not Judit, Sarah. 00:30:07.24\00:30:11.04 Sarah now your education experience was a little 00:30:11.07\00:30:13.71 different. You were home schooled so you're coming in 00:30:13.74\00:30:17.55 from that other perspective where your parents are living 00:30:17.58\00:30:23.65 proof that the education system the right Christ-led educational 00:30:23.69\00:30:25.45 system, it works. And so tell us just briefly a little bit 00:30:25.49\00:30:30.03 about your experience growing up You know maybe there were some 00:30:30.06\00:30:32.93 different than maybe what you saw in other families or what 00:30:32.96\00:30:36.60 other kids got to experience. But yet here you are living 00:30:36.63\00:30:38.87 proof that God can take a person and shape and mold them into a 00:30:38.90\00:30:42.40 vessel of honor through the educational experience. So talk 00:30:42.44\00:30:44.87 a little bit about that. 00:30:44.91\00:30:46.24 Yeah I was actually just talking to Judit in the car saying you 00:30:46.27\00:30:48.11 know sometimes there's a temptation to think oh I don't 00:30:48.14\00:30:50.48 have a testimony. You know I wasn't out in the world. 00:30:50.51\00:30:52.61 I didn't have this big...you know I didn't do all these 00:30:52.65\00:30:54.68 things. But no, it's a testimony of when you follow God's plan 00:30:54.72\00:30:59.22 like it's so beautiful. Yeah I grew up in the country. I home 00:30:59.25\00:31:06.43 schooled and a lot of ministers involvement. My dad was head 00:31:06.46\00:31:10.23 elder a lot of the time at the current church. My mom was the 00:31:10.27\00:31:13.74 evangelism coordinator. My brother is AV director and I was 00:31:13.77\00:31:17.31 the music director there actually. So just a lot of 00:31:17.34\00:31:20.08 involvement in the church and I'm just transitioning into 00:31:20.11\00:31:23.35 Ouachita Hills, just continuing with that true educational 00:31:23.38\00:31:26.92 experience. has been such a blessing. And you know it was 00:31:26.95\00:31:31.12 hard for me deciding what college. There was like a lot of 00:31:31.15\00:31:34.12 pressure, oh where are you going to school, what are you doing? 00:31:34.16\00:31:37.06 You feel like I don't have that aim, I don't know what I'm doing 00:31:37.09\00:31:40.83 Just tell me and I'll do it, right? But he's like I have some 00:31:40.86\00:31:44.13 things to teach you first. And so I ended up doing a fast, a 00:31:44.17\00:31:50.01 _ fast, like fruits and vegetables through the weekend. 00:31:50.04\00:31:52.17 I'm like Lord just give me clarity on this. Show me where 00:31:52.21\00:31:53.88 I should go. Because we had been to Ouachita Hills to visit 00:31:53.91\00:31:58.11 because like Dr. Shin said my mom knows him and then she also 00:31:58.15\00:32:02.42 knew the founders of the school and so we're like let's check it 00:32:02.45\00:32:05.39 out. So we go to check out Ouachita Hills and I'm like wow 00:32:05.42\00:32:08.79 something's so different here, the students they're different. 00:32:08.82\00:32:11.79 Like they're so mission-minded like God is at the foremost of 00:32:11.83\00:32:14.96 their thoughts. I'm like wow, this is what I want too you know 00:32:15.00\00:32:18.33 But I wasn't sure because I had my mindset you know that I 00:32:18.37\00:32:21.00 wanted to go somewhere else. I had other plans. You know I want 00:32:21.04\00:32:24.04 to know the future. But the Lord's like, yeah, the Lord said 00:32:24.07\00:32:28.68 let me teach you something. So it's like Sarah you need to 00:32:28.71\00:32:31.38 surrender the need to know the future. You need to surrender 00:32:31.41\00:32:35.88 you know all your plans your whole life to me. I'm like okay 00:32:35.92\00:32:38.45 Lord, I surrender that to you. And I'm not just going to pray 00:32:38.49\00:32:40.86 about the problem now I'm going to give it to you, because 00:32:40.89\00:32:42.89 there's a difference there. So on the last day of the fast you 00:32:42.92\00:32:46.09 know I was reading this quote about how we want to know the 00:32:46.13\00:32:49.90 future and how many of us are unsettled when we don't know 00:32:49.93\00:32:52.03 the future. But think about Christ. He didn't know. He just 00:32:52.07\00:32:55.67 day by day... 00:32:55.70\00:32:57.04 Only what his Father revealed to him. 00:32:57.07\00:32:58.41 Only what his Father revealed to him. And so we should depend 00:32:58.44\00:33:01.41 upon God that our lives might be the simple outworking of his 00:33:01.44\00:33:05.51 will. And I was like wow this is so different you know from what 00:33:05.55\00:33:09.58 I was thinking, you know wanting to know the future. But what if 00:33:09.62\00:33:12.29 I just trusted God day by day? I said okay Lord I surrender the 00:33:12.32\00:33:16.46 need to know the future. I was hoping at the end of the fast to 00:33:16.49\00:33:22.06 know where I was going. I'm like Lord I really want to know. 00:33:22.10\00:33:24.03 You wanted him to split the sky and You're going to go here 00:33:24.07\00:33:25.93 (very deep voice) but it didn't happen like that at all. 00:33:25.97\00:33:27.74 It didn't happen like that. He said, No, you need to surrender 00:33:27.77\00:33:29.87 the need to know the future. So then the next day my mom was 00:33:29.90\00:33:34.21 actually talking to Dr. Shin on the phone asking him some 00:33:34.24\00:33:36.31 questions about something and I overheard them talking about the 00:33:36.34\00:33:38.71 mission and the aim of Ouachita Hills and that was to create 00:33:38.75\00:33:42.72 thinkers, not just mere reflectors of other men's 00:33:42.75\00:33:45.82 thoughts. And this is not just an ordinary education to get an 00:33:45.85\00:33:49.06 ordinary job like Dr. Shin was saying to live an ordinary life. 00:33:49.09\00:33:52.29 This is something different like they want to educate at 00:33:52.33\00:33:55.56 Ouachita, world changers. And I'm like whoa that's where I 00:33:55.60\00:34:00.54 want to go, that's my vision that's my mission. 00:34:00.57\00:34:02.47 I want to go to Ouachita Hills. (Laughter) Praise the Lord. 00:34:02.50\00:34:07.51 You guys have powerful testimonies. I can just sense 00:34:07.54\00:34:11.85 the Christ just beaming from you so praise the Lord. Dr. Shin 00:34:11.88\00:34:16.02 I got to come back to you. Let's talk about Ouachita Hills 00:34:16.05\00:34:18.65 because I've heard these powerful testimonies. It's 00:34:18.69\00:34:21.32 working obviously. So let's talk now about Ouachita Hills, you 00:34:21.36\00:34:25.39 know. How did it come about? You know. Let's just break it down 00:34:25.43\00:34:29.53 and tell everyone about what Ouachita Hills has to offer. 00:34:29.56\00:34:32.17 You know at the core, at the core of the philosophy of 00:34:32.20\00:34:35.80 Adventist education and ultimately what Ouachita Hills 00:34:35.84\00:34:38.87 College strives to follow is this principle that acquaint now 00:34:38.91\00:34:44.28 thyself with him, communion with God is the highest place in 00:34:44.31\00:34:49.58 education. Adam and Eve enjoyed face-to-face communion with God 00:34:49.62\00:34:52.85 and through the Bible, through prayer we can have communion 00:34:52.89\00:34:57.86 with the infinite mind of God. There's people that pay millions 00:34:57.89\00:35:02.60 of dollars, one person paid 6.4 million dollars to have lunch 00:35:02.63\00:35:07.20 with Warren Buffett, have lunch with the brightest mind arguably 00:35:07.24\00:35:13.01 in the world, in the financial world. They asked these 00:35:13.04\00:35:15.04 individuals, because they have an auction every year before 00:35:15.08\00:35:18.41 COVID, for the last 20 years and they asked all these guys, 00:35:18.45\00:35:21.08 millions of dollars was it worth it. And they're like 00:35:21.12\00:35:24.72 absolutely, to have communion. And I'm like how much more to 00:35:24.75\00:35:29.76 have communion with God. Can you imagine, just talk...I mean like 00:35:29.79\00:35:36.36 every conversation you come away I mean it blows your mind, like 00:35:36.40\00:35:40.64 every conversation. And the part of education that the world is 00:35:40.67\00:35:50.98 missing is that you can get knowledge apart from God, that's 00:35:51.01\00:35:58.92 the Achilles heel. All these scientific discoveries and 00:35:58.95\00:36:04.03 everything like that but if you really want to be educated like 00:36:04.06\00:36:06.36 you said take God out of it. But the book Education and the Bible 00:36:06.39\00:36:10.00 points out that no you can't see without light. You can't see 00:36:10.03\00:36:14.47 without light. And if you want to have education you need to go 00:36:14.50\00:36:16.77 to the source. So that is at the heart of education and what 00:36:16.81\00:36:22.61 we're trying to do. You go back in history a little bit in terms 00:36:22.64\00:36:26.85 of the history of Ouachita Hills College. There was a school that 00:36:26.88\00:36:29.92 was started in 1900, Madison College under the inspiration of 00:36:29.95\00:36:33.86 Ellen White. She had helped start schools like Emmanuel 00:36:33.89\00:36:40.50 Missionary College, Battle Creek She helped start Avondale. 00:36:40.53\00:36:44.27 But near the close of her life she was led to have 00:36:44.30\00:36:48.34 E. A. Sutherland and Megan who had helped start Emmanuel 00:36:48.37\00:36:51.14 Missionary College and Battle Creek to start a school called 00:36:51.17\00:36:55.21 Madison. And she indicated that Madison was to be a school of a 00:36:55.24\00:36:59.31 different order than the schools that had been prior. It was to 00:36:59.35\00:37:02.98 called like a supporting ministry of the church much like 00:37:03.02\00:37:07.39 3ABN. It was to be lay-led. They would have manual training, 00:37:07.42\00:37:10.79 practical skills and she said that you follow this model that 00:37:10.83\00:37:17.10 you will be like a beacon on a hill. This is what she did right 00:37:17.13\00:37:20.74 before she died. So Madison took off and in its brief 50-year 00:37:20.77\00:37:27.61 history presidents, world-renown leaders would visit Madison 00:37:27.64\00:37:32.88 astounded at what was taking place there. It was very simple. 00:37:32.91\00:37:37.52 Foundation of education was acquaint now thyself with him. 00:37:37.55\00:37:42.29 Education and redemption are one Manual training, manual training 00:37:42.32\00:37:46.66 The Bible was to be the textbook Does that sound familiar? You 00:37:46.70\00:37:49.96 know all these types of things and it created a generation of 00:37:50.00\00:37:53.44 leaders that out of Madison grew ASI. Ahhh. ASI came out of 00:37:53.47\00:38:02.78 Madison. Placed like Ouachita Hills College in the philosophy 00:38:02.81\00:38:05.91 of Madison, 3ABN in the philosophy of Madison, Amazing 00:38:05.95\00:38:11.89 Facts in the Philosophy of Madison. All of these things are 00:38:11.92\00:38:17.13 in the lineage of Madison. GYC lineage of Madison. And so when 00:38:17.16\00:38:23.33 you look at scripture you have these two veins that go through 00:38:23.37\00:38:27.54 it. You have the organized work which was the priest. And then 00:38:27.57\00:38:33.34 you have laity that the Lord would tap on the shoulder and be 00:38:33.38\00:38:36.81 like Hey I want you to do something too. Prophets and 00:38:36.85\00:38:42.05 priests. Very interesting. That lineage that went down through 00:38:42.08\00:38:45.75 And if any time for instance in the case of priests if there was 00:38:45.79\00:38:52.53 any deviation among the priests God would raise up a prophet. 00:38:52.56\00:38:56.30 Now there were false prophets too so it's not all...and I'm 00:38:56.33\00:38:59.43 not saying that all supporting ministries but seen these two 00:38:59.47\00:39:03.91 lines we can't disregard and so this lineage continues down 00:39:03.94\00:39:07.51 through history and then you see it in education, you see it in 00:39:07.54\00:39:11.38 Adventist education and you see the supporting ministry of 00:39:11.41\00:39:14.38 places like 3ABN, Amazing Facts, GYC, ASI, Ouachita Hills College 00:39:14.42\00:39:20.26 In Ouachita Hills College we really began with the academy. 00:39:20.29\00:39:25.96 Dr. Clark, Herriot Clark, he graduated from Loma Linda with 00:39:25.99\00:39:29.83 a dental degree, D.D.S. He could have settled down anywhere but 00:39:29.86\00:39:34.60 he decided do dark county evangelism and he picked star 00:39:34.64\00:39:38.31 county, Clark County in Amity, Arkansas. Amity, Arkansas in 00:39:38.34\00:39:44.25 Clark County and they planted a church and started an academy 00:39:44.28\00:39:48.38 in their home, in their home and I didn't say this in the 00:39:48.42\00:39:53.72 introduction but I was back in 1994 I was an academy student 00:39:53.76\00:40:01.10 at Ouachita Hills Academy. Yeah, yeah. So it comes full circle. 00:40:01.13\00:40:04.77 Twenty-five years later I come back as the president. So I went 00:40:04.80\00:40:08.24 there and look I landed there I was a mess, all right? And 00:40:08.27\00:40:11.94 look, there were no facilities ladies, men. Well we were in 00:40:11.97\00:40:17.55 this white house you know and we were eating in this other house 00:40:17.58\00:40:21.42 in the middle of nowhere and it was just like the concrete 00:40:21.45\00:40:24.95 floors but it was about the people. It was about the people. 00:40:24.99\00:40:27.99 Raised up a generation of leaders that are in the ministry 00:40:28.02\00:40:30.66 today that it's just amazing. So when I went there it changed 00:40:30.69\00:40:34.56 my life. I mean it was a pivotal moment in my life. I was 00:40:34.60\00:40:37.63 canvassing and Eugene Pruitt was my leader, you know, pioneer in 00:40:37.67\00:40:40.90 canvassing. Changed my life. Took the call to ministry. 00:40:40.94\00:40:45.61 And so for me, it was that pivotal moment in that change 00:40:45.64\00:40:48.11 and I think that if you could get the essence of what Ouachita 00:40:48.14\00:40:52.81 Hills College endeavors to do by the grace of God is to 00:40:52.85\00:40:56.99 introduce every young person to Jesus Christ, to Jesus Christ. 00:40:57.02\00:41:01.92 Because look, if you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and 00:41:01.96\00:41:05.09 and Lord, from that foundation Jesus is like, I can take you 00:41:05.13\00:41:09.46 anywhere, I can take you anywhere. I can teach you 00:41:09.50\00:41:13.74 everything that you need to know but first, you need to give your 00:41:13.77\00:41:17.24 heart to me. So it's an environment fostered for 00:41:17.27\00:41:20.64 spiritual growth you know. Is it perfect, No. Are we striving Yes 00:41:20.68\00:41:24.38 Is it made up of people that are faulty and put on their pants 00:41:24.41\00:41:27.42 like everybody else? Absolutely. But that is the core philosophy 00:41:27.45\00:41:31.89 of Ouachita Hills College to have an environment where you're 00:41:31.92\00:41:37.33 giving the Holy Spirit a fighting chance. You know? 00:41:37.36\00:41:40.36 Where you're not inundated with all of the filth of the world, 00:41:40.40\00:41:47.00 the junk of the world, where you can eat a diet where you 00:41:47.04\00:41:49.37 actually have a clear mind so you can hear the Holy Spirit and 00:41:49.40\00:41:51.57 study. Where you can be in an environment where you don't 00:41:51.61\00:41:54.28 have everything that looks around you is manmade and you 00:41:54.31\00:41:56.85 see nothing but...But you can be in nature and get to know 00:41:56.88\00:42:02.08 nature's God. And where you can work with your hands and have 00:42:02.12\00:42:05.35 this balance of the mind and the body and recognizing that look 00:42:05.39\00:42:09.72 you don't lose time when you're doing manual training and 00:42:09.76\00:42:13.80 there's certain things that you learn from manual labor that 00:42:13.83\00:42:16.53 build character, like being persistent in your 00:42:16.56\00:42:20.10 responsibility of cleaning tables and sweeping floors and 00:42:20.14\00:42:23.91 not sweeping it under the rug. Joseph was trained in Potiphar's 00:42:23.94\00:42:30.08 house as a servant. So it's the faithfulness in little things 00:42:30.11\00:42:33.52 because like look if you run with the horsemen and you're out 00:42:33.55\00:42:36.69 of breath what are you going to do when you run with the 00:42:36.72\00:42:39.35 chariots? And people are like ah, I'm so much more talented 00:42:39.39\00:42:41.92 that this. There's people that come to our school that have 00:42:41.96\00:42:46.33 ACTs that are off the charts. They could go to Harvard and 00:42:46.36\00:42:49.06 Yale. These two right here they could have gone anywhere. They 00:42:49.10\00:42:51.80 could have gone anywhere. And you take a young person that is 00:42:51.83\00:42:56.10 very accomplished, brilliant and then you're like um you know uh 00:42:56.14\00:43:02.04 in our tasks and responsibilities 00:43:02.08\00:43:04.31 in your vocational training um janitor. Not these young ladies 00:43:04.35\00:43:09.72 but I'm not...but some young people are like wait a minute 00:43:09.75\00:43:14.76 like do you know who I am? I'm not saying, they don't do that 00:43:14.79\00:43:18.46 they're very...You know they... 00:43:18.49\00:43:19.83 I can imagine some would show up when they found that they are to 00:43:19.86\00:43:23.93 clean...(indistinguishable) 00:43:23.97\00:43:25.30 But if you're honest even all of us there's a certain element of 00:43:25.33\00:43:29.27 like you know do it but in the back of your mind your like come 00:43:29.30\00:43:33.11 on now...Are you serious? And I remember when I had my education 00:43:33.14\00:43:40.08 I had to split wood and thinking is like what, what, I mean, what 00:43:40.12\00:43:45.05 I mean like what does this have to do, I mean do you know...You 00:43:45.09\00:43:47.76 know all these types of things. But ultimately it's a character 00:43:47.79\00:43:50.43 that you build. Elisha was called to be a prophet not being 00:43:50.46\00:43:57.23 like Elijah I mean here's my resume you know prophet of God 00:43:57.27\00:43:58.83 I mean you know I'll do a good job right. No, he was out there 00:43:58.87\00:44:02.04 with his servants plowing and it was in the midst of that 00:44:02.07\00:44:06.81 labor that God called him. Jesus carpenter of 30 years and he was 00:44:06.84\00:44:12.65 doing just as much of the Lord's work in those 30 years as he 00:44:12.68\00:44:15.12 did in the three-and-a-half. That made the foundation. And 00:44:15.15\00:44:17.85 so we teach faithfulness in little things, character 00:44:17.89\00:44:22.16 building and it's those types of things that the fabric, because 00:44:22.19\00:44:24.93 the character is the harvest of life, it's the harvest of life. 00:44:24.96\00:44:28.93 And it's when you do that, that you're able to build a 00:44:28.96\00:44:32.37 generation of leaders that can really change the world. 00:44:32.40\00:44:36.27 That's amazing, that's amazing. So a student decides they're 00:44:36.30\00:44:39.61 going to come Ouachita Hills and they're going to pursue 00:44:39.64\00:44:43.21 their education. What kind of majors are we looking at as a 00:44:43.24\00:44:45.41 student you know to shoot for. 00:44:45.45\00:44:47.92 We have four main majors. We have theology, preparation for 00:44:47.95\00:44:51.42 ministry, Bible work, pastors. We have education, teachers 00:44:51.45\00:44:55.12 and then we have sacred music. Sarah can elaborate on that. 00:44:55.16\00:44:58.59 And then we have business. You know ASI is our business. 00:44:58.63\00:45:03.43 Those are our four majors. We may explore having more but 00:45:03.47\00:45:06.33 those the four that we've put the emphasis on. But let me 00:45:06.37\00:45:09.84 talk a little bit about sacred music and I'll segue into Sarah 00:45:09.87\00:45:12.21 and you can talk about business too. Is that in the school of 00:45:12.24\00:45:16.44 prophets when Israel was in a crazy time in the book of Judges 00:45:16.48\00:45:21.52 when everyone did what was right in their own eyes, the person 00:45:21.55\00:45:24.79 that really put a stop to the crazy cycle was Samuel. And what 00:45:24.82\00:45:28.36 Samuel did was I'm going to raise up a school, the school of 00:45:28.39\00:45:31.79 the prophets. And the school of the prophets had a very simple 00:45:31.83\00:45:35.13 curriculum, be in nature, manual labor, the Bible, and sacred 00:45:35.16\00:45:42.90 music. And I think in our church we need a good conversation 00:45:42.94\00:45:48.31 about sacred music. So Sarah tell us a little bit about music 00:45:48.34\00:45:50.95 sacred music. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:45:50.98\00:45:53.28 Music is a passion of mine. I started the violin at six 00:45:53.31\00:45:57.42 actually but the last five years I've taken it seriously 00:45:57.45\00:45:58.95 with a Russian trained violinist But coming the Ouachita it was 00:45:58.99\00:46:03.86 so amazing to have professors you know you know that pray with 00:46:03.89\00:46:07.43 you before you start. Like Lord teach us how to play, teach us 00:46:07.46\00:46:10.43 how to sing. And being able to practically apply music. 00:46:10.47\00:46:17.27 Actually I'm teaching academy students for part of my work. 00:46:17.31\00:46:20.51 I'm also a music coordinator. We record music videos, do 00:46:20.54\00:46:25.98 recording during church to make music for the ears. We tour 00:46:26.01\00:46:28.22 around doing concerts on the weekends and it's just so 00:46:28.25\00:46:31.49 amazing to be able reach music. Ellen White says it's the most 00:46:31.52\00:46:35.76 effective means of impressing spiritual truth on people's hearts. And so just 00:46:35.79\00:46:40.80 being able to do that is so amazing. And when I saw Ouachita 00:46:40.83\00:46:45.10 Hills, when we came to see it, I was so impressed that at a 00:46:45.13\00:46:49.64 small school like this, they had such amazing professors, 00:46:49.67\00:46:51.31 high level 00:46:51.34\00:46:52.67 that have masters and have just dedicated their lives to coming 00:46:52.71\00:46:56.38 to Ouachita and, yeah, teaching us more about music, how to 00:46:56.41\00:46:59.98 perfect our skills more for Christ's work. 00:47:00.02\00:47:02.78 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord O man that sounds so fun, it's 00:47:02.82\00:47:06.79 so awesome. Praise the Lord. So you know we have give or take 00:47:06.82\00:47:10.83 about four-and-a-half minutes before we take a short little 00:47:10.86\00:47:13.46 break here, but Pastor I just want you to talk here about 00:47:13.50\00:47:17.00 you know if there's someone watching right now, there may be 00:47:17.03\00:47:20.47 someone watching right now that's just highly impressed 00:47:20.50\00:47:22.84 by what they've heard today, about Ouachita Hills and 00:47:22.87\00:47:25.94 considering maybe sending their grandchild, maybe their son or 00:47:25.97\00:47:28.84 their daughter, or maybe there's a young person watching right 00:47:28.88\00:47:31.45 now. Man I really would like to come here if you had an 00:47:31.48\00:47:35.05 opportunity to sit down with these folks and talk to them and 00:47:35.08\00:47:37.39 maybe encourage them further, to say anything to encourage them 00:47:37.42\00:47:42.42 to pursue this educational experience you know-how 00:47:42.46\00:47:46.80 how would you... 00:47:46.83\00:47:48.86 I would say to a young person even if we don't have a degree 00:47:48.90\00:47:52.67 that you feel like is the perfect fit...Look let's be 00:47:52.70\00:47:56.57 honest in the first two years you're taking generals anyway. 00:47:56.60\00:47:58.81 You're taking generals in any liberal arts education. So what 00:47:58.84\00:48:02.84 I tell young people and parents is this, look what's the point 00:48:02.88\00:48:06.65 of getting an education if you're going to have to sell 00:48:06.68\00:48:09.58 your soul in order to get that education. And so come to a 00:48:09.62\00:48:13.09 place where look the Lord may call you for one year, two years 00:48:13.12\00:48:16.49 three or four years, whatever. But come to a place where you 00:48:16.52\00:48:20.03 can receive a foundation in the word of God in your relationship 00:48:20.06\00:48:23.16 with him and be grounded in truth so that if the Lord does 00:48:23.20\00:48:30.14 call you anyway, any other place that you can have that 00:48:30.17\00:48:34.94 established foundation. Because here's the thing. If you take an 00:48:34.98\00:48:39.88 18-year-old and you place them at the feet of an intellectual, 00:48:39.91\00:48:44.35 they don't stand a chance, they don't stand a chance. Because 00:48:44.39\00:48:50.19 look you stack the deck, right? And it's over, it's over. I mean 00:48:50.23\00:48:55.63 I heard one Christian professor in a secular university and he 00:48:55.66\00:49:00.17 had the students come to him and say, You know professor I really 00:49:00.20\00:49:02.17 loved your class. It's like I believed in God for that entire 00:49:02.20\00:49:05.21 semester. You know, I didn't believe afterward. But anyway 00:49:05.24\00:49:08.64 it was just kind of one of those things but it really portrayed 00:49:08.68\00:49:11.31 that when you sit at the feet of somebody...Let's say if they're 00:49:11.35\00:49:17.75 agnostic, if they're atheist, if they have pantheistic views 00:49:17.79\00:49:21.16 or philosophic or hedonistic world view that really comes 00:49:21.19\00:49:24.13 from the enlightenment period that is antithetical to God 00:49:24.16\00:49:26.23 it's that you're going to come out differently, you're going to 00:49:26.26\00:49:29.23 come out differently, especially at this critical time. And so 00:49:29.26\00:49:32.53 what I tell people is like look come to a place like Ouachita 00:49:32.57\00:49:35.64 Hills College where you can give the Holy Spirit a chance to work 00:49:35.67\00:49:41.94 and be grounded in truth, in Biblical understanding. You gain 00:49:41.98\00:49:46.21 other skills too. But build that foundation and give your heart 00:49:46.25\00:49:50.35 to God and then let him lead. And if you're already coming 00:49:50.39\00:49:54.02 from a solid home, an environment where your parents 00:49:54.06\00:49:57.86 really invest in your educational system and perhaps 00:49:57.89\00:50:00.80 you're in a situation like Sarah then you can come to a place 00:50:00.83\00:50:04.73 that is a continuation of the philosophy that your parents 00:50:04.77\00:50:08.17 gave. And you can build on that experience moving on and you can 00:50:08.20\00:50:13.17 get...really get established. For an individual like Judit 00:50:13.21\00:50:15.94 that is looking for something different, something more, 00:50:15.98\00:50:18.41 something radical in the positive sense then they can 00:50:18.45\00:50:22.32 come and be like all right this is what I'm looking for. I'm 00:50:22.35\00:50:25.29 tired of messing around. I'm going to get serious about the 00:50:25.32\00:50:27.79 Lord Jesus. And ultimately we want to raise up a generation of 00:50:27.82\00:50:31.46 world changers that are willing to make an impact and wanting 00:50:31.49\00:50:36.46 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord I can just sense this whole 00:50:36.50\00:50:41.40 college experience at Ouachita Hills is very Christ-centered. 00:50:41.44\00:50:45.41 It's very Biblical in it's curriculum and its approach. 00:50:45.44\00:50:49.91 As you were talking this came to my mind, a scripture from 00:50:49.94\00:50:52.41 Matthew chapter 11 verses 28 and Come unto me, Jesus says, 00:50:52.45\00:50:56.28 All you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. 00:50:56.32\00:50:59.72 And in verse 29: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me 00:50:59.75\00:51:05.93 it says for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find 00:51:05.96\00:51:09.46 rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. 00:51:09.50\00:51:13.70 You come to a school like Ouachita Hills and can't help 00:51:13.74\00:51:16.44 but to learn of Christ, learn of his way, learn of the scripture. 00:51:16.47\00:51:20.41 I'm so excited about what you guys are doing, what's happening 00:51:20.44\00:51:22.74 at Ouachita Hills. You may have been impressed by what you're 00:51:22.78\00:51:25.38 watching and I hope that's the case. I believe that's the case. 00:51:25.41\00:51:27.95 In that case, we're going to show you right now how you can 00:51:27.98\00:51:31.82 come in contact with Ouachita Hills for more information. 00:51:31.85\00:51:34.72 Maybe you want to go. Maybe you know someone, a family member 00:51:34.76\00:51:37.53 who wants to attend. Here's how you can do that: 00:51:37.56\00:51:39.69 ¤ ¤ 00:51:39.73\00:52:20.80
