Right there, yes. 00:10:00.80\00:10:03.13 And so they said, it'd just be a quick trip across the river. 00:10:03.16\00:10:06.17 But what turned out to be actually a three hour trip 00:10:06.20\00:10:09.60 down the river. 00:10:09.64\00:10:10.97 We're sitting there on top of those building materials 00:10:11.01\00:10:14.38 and we got to the other side, 00:10:14.41\00:10:15.74 we actually loaded the church onto some oxcarts, 00:10:15.78\00:10:18.98 which you also see there on the screen. 00:10:19.01\00:10:20.55 Oh, you loaded the church. 00:10:20.58\00:10:23.18 We loaded the church, the scaffolding, 00:10:23.22\00:10:25.25 all the equipment, 00:10:25.29\00:10:26.62 and brought it for another hour to the village 00:10:26.65\00:10:28.89 where we were able to build it. 00:10:28.92\00:10:30.69 And the people there were very grateful 00:10:30.73\00:10:32.43 and they were praising God. 00:10:32.46\00:10:34.16 And one of the songs that they were singing was 00:10:34.20\00:10:36.56 had the words Akuna Sesipala, 00:10:36.60\00:10:39.13 and these words, meaning nothing is impossible. 00:10:39.17\00:10:42.47 And we know that the Bible says with God, 00:10:42.50\00:10:45.37 nothing is impossible. 00:10:45.41\00:10:46.78 And you want to sing 00:10:46.81\00:10:48.14 some of those bars for us today, 00:10:48.18\00:10:49.58 not putting you on the spot, 00:10:49.61\00:10:51.15 but just kind of give us an idea 00:10:51.18\00:10:52.51 what it sounds like? 00:10:52.55\00:10:53.88 So it goes, Akuna Sesipala, Akuna Sesipala, 00:10:53.92\00:11:00.42 and they sing Akuna Limu Yesu, 00:11:00.46\00:11:02.92 meaning with Jesus nothing is impossible. 00:11:02.96\00:11:05.93 Akuna Sesipala. 00:11:05.96\00:11:07.43 And then Akuna Limu and Dante, with the father, 00:11:07.46\00:11:10.53 nothing is impossible, Akuna Sesipala. 00:11:10.57\00:11:13.27 So we actually have a short clip of that song, 00:11:13.30\00:11:17.01 which we'll be able to show 00:11:17.04\00:11:18.44 for the viewers to hear as well. 00:11:18.47\00:11:20.38 Okay. Beautiful. 00:11:44.33\00:11:45.97 So, after we built the church and they were singing the song, 00:11:46.00\00:11:50.41 the Bible worker from Riverside, 00:11:50.44\00:11:51.84 Elder Will Luca Miunda, who was with us. 00:11:51.87\00:11:54.84 He noticed that I liked the song 00:11:54.88\00:11:56.21 and I was singing along with these people 00:11:56.24\00:11:58.41 whenever they would sing it at the various churches. 00:11:58.45\00:12:00.98 So he said, I want to give you a new Zambian name, 00:12:01.02\00:12:03.55 which is Akuna Sesipala. 00:12:03.59\00:12:06.29 And so he, he would call me this name 00:12:06.32\00:12:09.06 and also introduced me to the villagers 00:12:09.09\00:12:10.79 as Joshua Akuna Sesipala. 00:12:10.83\00:12:13.33 Wow. 00:12:13.36\00:12:14.70 And so this was a meaningful for me 00:12:14.73\00:12:16.70 because with God, nothing is impossible. 00:12:16.73\00:12:20.64 And so this idea, this phrase stuck with me 00:12:20.67\00:12:24.27 and then over the next few months, 00:12:24.31\00:12:26.14 that's when the whole COVID crisis hit. 00:12:26.17\00:12:28.78 And so I was looking for ways in my internship of, 00:12:28.81\00:12:31.28 you know, how can I add value to some of the different things 00:12:31.31\00:12:34.85 that Riverside grows, 00:12:34.88\00:12:36.48 which it grows, you know, bananas, 00:12:36.52\00:12:38.89 soy beans, as well as wheat. 00:12:38.92\00:12:41.22 So I was looking into these different things 00:12:41.26\00:12:43.22 and then I stumbled across a natural soap production. 00:12:43.26\00:12:47.20 And so that's essentially 00:12:47.23\00:12:48.73 what this project turned out to be. 00:12:48.76\00:12:52.20 And over the course of time and advice from some others, 00:12:52.23\00:12:55.70 we were able to make this project happened 00:12:55.74\00:13:00.71 and call it Akuna Soap Industry after that phrase, 00:13:00.74\00:13:04.78 which I had learned. 00:13:04.81\00:13:06.28 Akuna Sesipala. 00:13:06.31\00:13:08.62 So we have a picture of the product line 00:13:08.65\00:13:10.75 that you have actually produced. 00:13:10.79\00:13:13.46 It's an amazing thing. 00:13:13.49\00:13:15.02 And we have some samples here. 00:13:15.06\00:13:16.89 This is just some of the... 00:13:16.93\00:13:18.26 How many, about how many different types of soap? 00:13:18.29\00:13:20.66 So currently we have 12 different types. 00:13:20.70\00:13:23.03 The eight you see there on the screen are our soap bars 00:13:23.06\00:13:25.73 for the hands, the body and the face. 00:13:25.77\00:13:27.90 And then we also have four bars 00:13:27.94\00:13:29.50 which are shampoo 00:13:29.54\00:13:31.04 and conditioner bars for the hair. 00:13:31.07\00:13:33.84 And so we started out with four products 00:13:33.88\00:13:35.94 and with plastic packaging, 00:13:35.98\00:13:37.35 and right now we've moved into boxes as well. 00:13:37.38\00:13:39.91 But each of these soaps 00:13:39.95\00:13:41.28 has some amazing health benefits for the body. 00:13:41.32\00:13:43.95 For example, things that we wouldn't normally 00:13:43.99\00:13:45.89 think about like oats, and honey, and moringa, 00:13:45.92\00:13:49.66 things that we could even potentially eat 00:13:49.69\00:13:52.19 are also good for our skin. 00:13:52.23\00:13:54.60 So if I'm ever hungry, I could have a soup bar to eat? 00:13:54.63\00:13:58.33 No, honey, no. 00:13:58.37\00:14:01.70 I'd have to extract that from, but that is interesting. 00:14:01.74\00:14:03.91 When we saw this, when we saw this soap bar, 00:14:03.94\00:14:06.81 we thought we cannot wait for it to come to America. 00:14:06.84\00:14:11.21 It's not available in America right now. 00:14:11.25\00:14:12.88 So don't blow up us email. 00:14:12.91\00:14:15.08 They're trying to order them. 00:14:15.12\00:14:16.45 But I tell you, this is amazing in your, 00:14:16.48\00:14:18.22 and your graphics design background 00:14:18.25\00:14:22.59 was instrumental in designing these. 00:14:22.62\00:14:24.89 Bring up that picture one more time of the, 00:14:24.93\00:14:27.20 it doesn't matter which set of soap bars you have, 00:14:27.23\00:14:30.67 but his graphic ability 00:14:30.70\00:14:32.10 was able to be used in putting this together. 00:14:32.13\00:14:36.00 And I need to go right away and say Michelle, 00:14:36.04\00:14:39.21 because you're teaching business, 00:14:39.24\00:14:41.38 I think to some degree 00:14:41.41\00:14:42.74 you've impacted his frame of mind 00:14:42.78\00:14:45.68 to say, okay, how could I put my business 00:14:45.71\00:14:48.15 education into production over there? 00:14:48.18\00:14:51.32 Well, one of my dreams 00:14:51.35\00:14:52.85 is to have more business student missionaries 00:14:52.89\00:14:55.62 because we have a lot of student missionaries 00:14:55.66\00:14:57.29 that teach English or do health work. 00:14:57.33\00:15:00.13 And I meet business students 00:15:00.16\00:15:01.50 who say, well, I'm not going to go 00:15:01.53\00:15:02.93 be a student missionary 00:15:02.96\00:15:04.30 because I don't know how I would use my skills. 00:15:04.33\00:15:07.47 And that's a shame to me 00:15:07.50\00:15:08.84 because I think that business can do so much. 00:15:08.87\00:15:11.77 And so, there was this opportunity 00:15:11.81\00:15:13.54 I found out from our student missions director 00:15:13.58\00:15:15.84 in Riverside Farms in Zambia, 00:15:15.88\00:15:17.98 they were looking for a student 00:15:18.01\00:15:19.58 who was entrepreneurial and a self-starter 00:15:19.61\00:15:21.85 and would actually get a business going there. 00:15:21.88\00:15:25.19 And I didn't know who at first, 00:15:25.22\00:15:26.86 I remember just kind of thinking about it, 00:15:26.89\00:15:28.62 filing it away, praying about it. 00:15:28.66\00:15:30.99 And then Josh and I were at a community service event 00:15:31.03\00:15:34.66 that GYC Southeast 00:15:34.70\00:15:36.16 and the business society students did together. 00:15:36.20\00:15:39.10 And he was talking about becoming a student missionary. 00:15:39.13\00:15:42.00 And I just felt like, 00:15:42.04\00:15:44.37 I think this might be the person. 00:15:44.41\00:15:47.08 And so I planted that seed 00:15:47.11\00:15:49.34 and other people water that seed 00:15:49.38\00:15:51.01 and then Josh ended up going. 00:15:51.05\00:15:53.42 And so, it's so exciting to me 00:15:53.45\00:15:55.45 because you know, this is business doing mission 00:15:55.48\00:16:00.79 and getting to impact people's lives. 00:16:00.82\00:16:03.46 And that was super exciting. 00:16:03.49\00:16:05.36 And then we started, 00:16:05.39\00:16:06.73 we'll hear more later about how we linked to this 00:16:06.76\00:16:08.56 with our Enactus program for social entrepreneurship, 00:16:08.60\00:16:12.30 but just to have a model 00:16:12.33\00:16:13.87 for students to be able to use business in powerful ways. 00:16:13.90\00:16:17.47 Beautiful. 00:16:17.51\00:16:18.84 And now, Ashley, what is Enactus? 00:16:18.87\00:16:21.51 So Enactus is a worldwide organization. 00:16:21.54\00:16:25.28 There are chapters and universities 00:16:25.31\00:16:27.25 in over 35 countries, I want to say. 00:16:27.28\00:16:30.19 I believe there's over 72,000 students in the world 00:16:30.22\00:16:33.86 who are part of this organization. 00:16:33.89\00:16:36.39 But we have a small chapter Southern Adventist University. 00:16:36.42\00:16:40.33 And our mission is to inspire innovation 00:16:40.36\00:16:45.23 to meet the needs of our local and global communities 00:16:45.27\00:16:48.54 through Christ centered service. 00:16:48.57\00:16:50.54 So Enactus as a whole is all about, 00:16:50.57\00:16:53.44 you know, inspiring entrepreneurship 00:16:53.48\00:16:54.81 and college students. 00:16:54.84\00:16:56.24 But I really liked that at Southern. 00:16:56.28\00:16:58.38 We kind of add that extra step of the Christ centered service, 00:16:58.41\00:17:01.82 which is where I think we connect so wonderfully 00:17:01.85\00:17:04.69 with sending the student missionaries 00:17:04.72\00:17:06.15 over to Zambia 00:17:06.19\00:17:07.86 like what Josh did and that type of thing. 00:17:07.89\00:17:10.53 Wow. 00:17:10.56\00:17:11.89 So, Michelle and Ashley, 00:17:11.93\00:17:13.26 how did they get merged together 00:17:13.29\00:17:14.63 Enactus as well as the... 00:17:14.66\00:17:16.33 Well, so I switched over to Zambia 00:17:16.36\00:17:19.90 and I start seeing on Facebook 00:17:19.93\00:17:22.27 about this Akuna thing starting. 00:17:22.30\00:17:25.14 And so, we just started talking 00:17:25.17\00:17:27.38 and I remember talking on I think Facebook messenger, 00:17:27.41\00:17:31.65 whatnot to say, 00:17:31.68\00:17:33.01 how could we help you? 00:17:33.05\00:17:34.68 How can we get this out there? 00:17:34.72\00:17:36.89 And then we're posting about it, 00:17:36.92\00:17:39.22 trying to get more published about it 00:17:39.25\00:17:41.32 and talk to Ashley about it and said, hey, 00:17:41.36\00:17:44.73 Ashley had also seen this on social media. 00:17:44.76\00:17:47.16 And so we started saying, you know, 00:17:47.20\00:17:49.16 this is really what we're about as Enactus. 00:17:49.20\00:17:51.43 This is our own students who are doing this. 00:17:51.47\00:17:54.24 And so, let's see how we can work together. 00:17:54.27\00:17:58.57 And so we started putting together a team 00:17:58.61\00:18:00.81 in our Enactus program 00:18:00.84\00:18:02.21 to help do fundraising and research 00:18:02.24\00:18:05.18 and to kind of support from the US side 00:18:05.21\00:18:07.55 then what Josh was building over in Zambia. 00:18:07.58\00:18:10.32 Wow. 00:18:10.35\00:18:11.69 Now, Josh, why soap, 00:18:11.72\00:18:13.05 why did you see soap was a need? 00:18:13.09\00:18:16.59 Yeah, so as I was researching 00:18:16.62\00:18:19.06 and looking at the different markets 00:18:19.09\00:18:20.83 in Zambia, 00:18:20.86\00:18:22.50 I was looking for a project 00:18:22.53\00:18:23.87 that could both benefit the farm 00:18:23.90\00:18:25.80 and also with a low capital cost 00:18:25.83\00:18:27.70 and easily scalable. 00:18:27.74\00:18:29.44 And so I saw that there was a need 00:18:29.47\00:18:31.11 for a high quality healthy and also affordable bar of soap 00:18:31.14\00:18:35.81 in Zambia. 00:18:35.84\00:18:37.18 And so those are basically the three principles 00:18:37.21\00:18:39.95 which we founded the industry on, 00:18:39.98\00:18:42.38 which is quality, health and affordability, 00:18:42.42\00:18:44.92 'cause usually we can find, you know, two of the three, 00:18:44.95\00:18:47.59 but it's not necessarily a product 00:18:47.62\00:18:48.96 that everybody can afford. 00:18:48.99\00:18:50.83 And so, 00:18:50.86\00:18:53.50 the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:31, 00:18:53.53\00:18:58.00 I'm just going to turn there real quick. 00:18:58.03\00:18:59.63 Okay. 00:18:59.67\00:19:01.00 It says, "Therefore, 00:19:01.04\00:19:02.37 whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, 00:19:02.40\00:19:05.31 do all to the glory of God." 00:19:05.34\00:19:08.11 And so we also read from Spirit of Prophecy 00:19:08.14\00:19:10.58 where Sister White says 00:19:10.61\00:19:11.95 cleanliness is next to godliness. 00:19:11.98\00:19:14.38 And something that we train the sales agents, 00:19:14.42\00:19:17.65 which is, 00:19:17.69\00:19:19.02 you know, the number one thing as Christians 00:19:19.05\00:19:20.82 that we should strive for is godliness. 00:19:20.86\00:19:23.39 But next to that is actually cleanliness. 00:19:23.43\00:19:25.29 And it's not only important what we put into our bodies, 00:19:25.33\00:19:28.80 but also what we use to clean our bodies with 00:19:28.83\00:19:31.77 is also important. 00:19:31.80\00:19:33.27 Yeah, hygiene. 00:19:33.30\00:19:34.64 You know, show them how soap bar looks. 00:19:34.67\00:19:37.31 Now, which flavor is this? 00:19:37.34\00:19:38.67 This one is peppermint moisturizer soap, 00:19:38.71\00:19:41.01 and it smells yummy. 00:19:41.04\00:19:42.91 Yes. 00:19:42.94\00:19:44.28 And it's for the, your face, your body, hands, 00:19:44.31\00:19:46.35 it's cooling, it's moisturizing. 00:19:46.38\00:19:48.58 And it has organic Shea butter. 00:19:48.62\00:19:51.05 This is just, I think almost peppermint. 00:19:51.09\00:19:53.46 Guess what, Josh? 00:19:53.49\00:19:55.09 You're not leaving here today. And I like charcoal too. 00:19:55.12\00:19:57.53 Charcoal 00:19:57.56\00:19:58.89 and that's one that really takes out the impurities. 00:19:58.93\00:20:01.50 It clears your pimples, detoxifies. 00:20:01.53\00:20:02.86 Yes. 00:20:02.90\00:20:04.23 The charcoal soap actually the most popular soap right now 00:20:04.27\00:20:06.70 in Zambia 00:20:06.74\00:20:08.07 and because many people, many women and girls 00:20:08.10\00:20:10.17 have said that just within three days, 00:20:10.21\00:20:12.17 their pimples and their face has started to clear up. 00:20:12.21\00:20:14.84 And so, it cleanses, 00:20:14.88\00:20:16.44 but also moisturizes because of sugar, 00:20:16.48\00:20:18.55 which is a natural humectant 00:20:18.58\00:20:20.42 drawing moisture from the environment 00:20:20.45\00:20:21.78 into the skin 00:20:21.82\00:20:23.15 to replace the detoxification that the charcoal causes. 00:20:23.18\00:20:26.19 Wow. 00:20:26.22\00:20:27.56 So there's an acne benefit, now look out for proactive 00:20:27.59\00:20:30.69 and all those types of things. 00:20:30.73\00:20:32.06 That's really good. 00:20:32.09\00:20:33.43 And the Lord impressed you to do that. 00:20:33.46\00:20:34.86 And what kind of reception did you get 00:20:34.90\00:20:38.57 when these, I think you have some photos 00:20:38.60\00:20:41.57 that shows the production side of it. 00:20:41.60\00:20:44.07 Oh, sure. 00:20:44.11\00:20:45.47 So production process right now is fairly small, 00:20:45.51\00:20:50.08 but we're operating out of one room with right now, 00:20:50.11\00:20:53.01 12 workers trained for two shifts. 00:20:53.05\00:20:55.85 And so they're making approximately 1600 bars per day 00:20:55.88\00:20:59.49 and filling, they put it into the molds 00:20:59.52\00:21:01.92 and then it goes over to the curing room 00:21:01.96\00:21:03.76 for a couple of weeks 00:21:03.79\00:21:05.13 coming back where the bars are cut 00:21:05.16\00:21:09.43 and stamped and then packaged 00:21:09.46\00:21:12.47 and then made available for sale. 00:21:12.50\00:21:14.54 So this is one group of workers. 00:21:14.57\00:21:17.01 You can see their smiling faces and they're all youth. 00:21:17.04\00:21:19.67 So they're all under the age of 25 00:21:19.71\00:21:22.54 and they're making this soap on a daily basis 00:21:22.58\00:21:25.01 and they're all very excited about it. 00:21:25.05\00:21:27.08 And how many bars a day? 00:21:27.12\00:21:28.65 One thousand six hundred, 00:21:28.68\00:21:30.19 although in the near future when I go back to Zambia, 00:21:30.22\00:21:34.49 we're planning to build a larger factory, 00:21:34.52\00:21:36.49 which we'll be able to make up to 12,000 bars per day. 00:21:36.52\00:21:40.43 Yeah. The production workers. 00:21:40.46\00:21:41.80 How many of them do you have? 00:21:41.83\00:21:43.67 Twelve. You said 12. Okay. 00:21:43.70\00:21:45.93 Yeah, so you're gonna be amping that up 00:21:45.97\00:21:48.44 when you talk about the demand. 00:21:48.47\00:21:50.41 And, Ashley, I want to throw that towards you, 00:21:50.44\00:21:52.41 you know, because there's some future plans 00:21:52.44\00:21:54.74 for the Akuna soap industry. 00:21:54.78\00:21:56.41 Let's about talk that. 00:21:56.44\00:21:58.01 Yeah, so what I'm hoping to do 00:21:58.05\00:22:00.62 when I go to Zambia is to be able to work more 00:22:00.65\00:22:03.25 with the women and youth. 00:22:03.28\00:22:05.25 I really like that missional aspect of it. 00:22:05.29\00:22:09.02 The idea of being able to train them, 00:22:09.06\00:22:10.66 how to sell these soaps, 00:22:10.69\00:22:12.03 you know, to make that additional income 00:22:12.06\00:22:14.60 that they otherwise wouldn't have. 00:22:14.63\00:22:16.46 I think that's so important 00:22:16.50\00:22:18.47 because, you know, 00:22:18.50\00:22:19.83 it will give these people more access 00:22:19.87\00:22:21.37 to communication, 00:22:21.40\00:22:23.91 you know, transportation, 00:22:23.94\00:22:26.27 better education for their children 00:22:26.31\00:22:27.98 and things like that. 00:22:28.01\00:22:29.34 So we're hoping to increase 00:22:29.38\00:22:30.88 number of sales agents out there 00:22:30.91\00:22:33.15 and just keep working, 00:22:33.18\00:22:35.38 so we can reach more people. 00:22:35.42\00:22:37.05 Now you'll be going out to Zambia 00:22:37.09\00:22:39.29 as a student missionary pretty soon. 00:22:39.32\00:22:41.59 How do you feel about that? 00:22:41.62\00:22:44.13 Are you excited? I'm very excited. 00:22:44.16\00:22:46.36 A little bit nervous. 00:22:46.39\00:22:48.20 Never been to Africa 00:22:48.23\00:22:49.93 and there's definitely a lot to learn 00:22:49.96\00:22:52.30 once I get over there, 00:22:52.33\00:22:53.67 but I think God will bless 00:22:53.70\00:22:56.30 and I'm excited to see what happens. 00:22:56.34\00:22:58.17 Josh will be there, right? Yeah. 00:22:58.21\00:22:59.91 That's right. So you have a familiar face. 00:22:59.94\00:23:01.68 That's right. That's right. Yeah. 00:23:01.71\00:23:03.78 It's always nice to have a familiar face. 00:23:03.81\00:23:05.58 Would you add anything to that, Michelle? 00:23:05.61\00:23:07.38 Well, I think a neat part of this model that I loved 00:23:07.42\00:23:10.89 from when they started is that 00:23:10.92\00:23:13.05 the soap is sold by Christian youth and women. 00:23:13.09\00:23:18.09 Yeah. 00:23:18.13\00:23:19.46 And I know we'll get to some pictures 00:23:19.49\00:23:21.46 or some pictures coming of them. 00:23:21.50\00:23:23.53 And that is just so fun 00:23:23.57\00:23:26.37 because they are really learning 00:23:26.40\00:23:28.57 and growing and developing. 00:23:28.60\00:23:31.71 And that's a huge part of the mission 00:23:31.74\00:23:34.58 because, yeah, selling the soap earns income 00:23:34.61\00:23:37.35 and that income can be reinvested 00:23:37.38\00:23:39.31 to improve the ministry in the community, 00:23:39.35\00:23:42.32 but the people who are selling it 00:23:42.35\00:23:44.55 are learning valuable skills too. 00:23:44.59\00:23:47.02 And they're able to share the love of Jesus 00:23:47.06\00:23:48.86 more personally. 00:23:48.89\00:23:50.23 Because when you're going one-on-one 00:23:50.26\00:23:52.69 to, to sell and talk about health 00:23:52.73\00:23:55.06 and they also have some health books that they use, 00:23:55.10\00:23:57.87 they're able to really make connections in the community. 00:23:57.90\00:24:01.10 And so then this becomes 00:24:01.14\00:24:02.47 not just like community empowerment, 00:24:02.50\00:24:04.61 economic empowerment, 00:24:04.64\00:24:06.57 but also a witnessing tool. 00:24:06.61\00:24:08.61 That's right. 00:24:08.64\00:24:09.98 And also adding to the people 00:24:10.01\00:24:11.71 that are participating in this outreach, 00:24:11.75\00:24:14.38 some personal assets that they can use 00:24:14.42\00:24:18.09 and maybe expand their ability to even purchase some things 00:24:18.12\00:24:21.86 that prior to this product they couldn't be able to do it. 00:24:21.89\00:24:24.63 That's right. 00:24:24.66\00:24:25.99 Now... Go ahead, Josh. 00:24:26.03\00:24:27.40 Yes, so as Michelle was mentioning 00:24:27.43\00:24:31.40 we have this sales agent structure 00:24:31.43\00:24:34.30 for the soap industry 00:24:34.34\00:24:35.67 where we thought, 00:24:35.70\00:24:37.04 how can we combine this idea of healthy soap 00:24:37.07\00:24:39.24 with also empowering the youth and the women of Zambia? 00:24:39.27\00:24:43.35 Because there's a disproportionate amount 00:24:43.38\00:24:46.41 of these groups 00:24:46.45\00:24:47.78 who are unemployed and they're looking for work 00:24:47.82\00:24:49.98 and they're looking for ways to support them, 00:24:50.02\00:24:51.55 their families also to get educated. 00:24:51.59\00:24:54.22 And so over the past few months 00:24:54.26\00:24:58.36 we've been able to train some various groups 00:24:58.39\00:25:01.23 which we can see on the screen 00:25:01.26\00:25:03.70 from, for example, the Lusaka Conference 00:25:03.73\00:25:06.00 the Kafue Main church. 00:25:06.03\00:25:07.37 Oh, nice. 00:25:07.40\00:25:08.74 As well as the chicken cottage district youth, 00:25:08.77\00:25:10.81 as well as a group of women known as the Dorcas Mothers, 00:25:10.84\00:25:13.68 which is a very... 00:25:13.71\00:25:15.04 They wear blue, don't they? 00:25:15.08\00:25:16.41 That's right. Blue dresses and white hats. 00:25:16.44\00:25:18.48 And they're very extensive 00:25:18.51\00:25:19.85 and a very God-fearing organization 00:25:19.88\00:25:22.58 there in Zambia. 00:25:22.62\00:25:23.95 They go out and do good in the communities. 00:25:23.99\00:25:25.79 So we thought, why not give them this opportunity 00:25:25.82\00:25:29.72 to also earn some extra money on the side. 00:25:29.76\00:25:32.23 And so that's been a huge blessing. 00:25:32.26\00:25:34.63 And you remember those colors when we were over there, 00:25:34.66\00:25:36.20 the ladies in blue. 00:25:36.23\00:25:37.57 Oh. 00:25:37.60\00:25:38.93 They would get the water and they would dig up the dirt 00:25:38.97\00:25:42.14 and it was, you know, plant stuff. 00:25:42.17\00:25:44.64 It was so nice. 00:25:44.67\00:25:46.07 Now, how does a group of college students, 00:25:46.11\00:25:48.14 how do, where do you get the money from? 00:25:48.18\00:25:50.31 I mean, how does that work? 00:25:50.35\00:25:54.52 Any of you? 00:25:54.55\00:25:56.45 Well, a lot of it comes from people 00:25:56.48\00:26:00.32 who, you know, maybe feel called by God 00:26:00.36\00:26:02.99 to support us and help us out. 00:26:03.02\00:26:06.13 You know, fundraising is always a huge part 00:26:06.16\00:26:08.33 of these types of things 00:26:08.36\00:26:09.70 because, you know, we're non-profit, 00:26:09.73\00:26:11.40 we're missional. 00:26:11.43\00:26:12.77 And so, you know, we pray 00:26:12.80\00:26:15.24 and we just go where God leads us 00:26:15.27\00:26:17.34 and the connections that He gives us. 00:26:17.37\00:26:19.74 And I think part of it, and Josh can talk about this 00:26:19.77\00:26:22.91 is starting small with what you have. 00:26:22.94\00:26:26.88 That's right. What's in your hand? 00:26:26.92\00:26:28.68 What's in your hand, right? 00:26:28.72\00:26:30.25 And so, Josh can tell you about 00:26:30.29\00:26:33.05 the mixing bowl with a modified drill, 00:26:33.09\00:26:35.36 used to spin and mix the stuff 00:26:35.39\00:26:39.06 and tire around it, and like, 00:26:39.09\00:26:41.50 you know, simple things, just having to be creative 00:26:41.53\00:26:44.83 and use a little bit. 00:26:44.87\00:26:46.33 And then like, as that has been done, 00:26:46.37\00:26:50.64 people see what's happening 00:26:50.67\00:26:52.01 and people have started to give more. 00:26:52.04\00:26:54.14 And so we just got in 35,000 recently, 00:26:54.18\00:26:57.25 which was a huge blessing. 00:26:57.28\00:26:58.61 That's about a third of the way 00:26:58.65\00:26:59.98 towards the goal of what's needed 00:27:00.02\00:27:01.55 to build the new production facility. 00:27:01.58\00:27:04.19 So we're not there yet, 00:27:04.22\00:27:05.55 but God has done so much 00:27:05.59\00:27:07.39 that I'm sure God is going to finish it, 00:27:07.42\00:27:09.79 but Josh can tell you more about what it's like 00:27:09.82\00:27:12.09 trying to be on the ground with this 00:27:12.13\00:27:13.60 and not knowing where the money will come from. 00:27:13.63\00:27:15.63 Yeah. Exactly. 00:27:15.66\00:27:17.03 There's been so many ways along the way 00:27:17.07\00:27:20.44 that we've seen God 00:27:20.47\00:27:22.60 provide for us financially and also resource wise. 00:27:22.64\00:27:28.41 But as Michelle pointed out, 00:27:28.44\00:27:30.35 there've been many people whose generosity has allowed us 00:27:30.38\00:27:33.11 to move forward 00:27:33.15\00:27:34.52 and move forward in faith. 00:27:34.55\00:27:36.82 And we've been starting small, 00:27:36.85\00:27:38.69 just using the materials that were around us. 00:27:38.72\00:27:43.69 Just like finding a pot from the store, for example, 00:27:43.73\00:27:46.59 getting a drill bit, 00:27:46.63\00:27:47.96 cutting some pieces of an old tire. 00:27:48.00\00:27:49.33 And now we have a soap mixer. 00:27:49.36\00:27:50.80 Okay. The spinner. That's right. 00:27:50.83\00:27:53.00 And so things like that, 00:27:53.03\00:27:54.70 as well as making things out of wood. 00:27:54.74\00:27:57.61 But eventually as people saw that, 00:27:57.64\00:27:59.61 wow, this is actually something that could be scalable 00:27:59.64\00:28:02.41 and could be serious. 00:28:02.44\00:28:04.31 Some donations started to pour in, 00:28:04.35\00:28:05.95 we were able to get some better equipment, 00:28:05.98\00:28:08.08 but as she pointed out 00:28:08.12\00:28:09.55 there are still some great needs 00:28:09.58\00:28:11.49 and planning to build a bigger production facility 00:28:11.52\00:28:15.22 when I go back 00:28:15.26\00:28:17.03 in order to meet the current demand. 00:28:17.06\00:28:19.56 And so... Sorry. 00:28:19.59\00:28:22.96 So you'll hire more people too once a production, 00:28:23.00\00:28:25.80 you get more production and more equipment? 00:28:25.83\00:28:27.20 That's correct. Yeah. 00:28:27.24\00:28:28.97 You know, my mind is going crazy, 00:28:29.00\00:28:30.34 'cause I'm a MacGyver to some degree. 00:28:30.37\00:28:32.64 Yeah, he's always thinking on the mixers. 00:28:32.67\00:28:34.01 I'm thinking of those big bread mixers professional, 00:28:34.04\00:28:37.11 but the dole mixer is that have, 00:28:37.15\00:28:39.38 you know, the kneading, the arm goes down and spin. 00:28:39.41\00:28:41.42 I thought, well, that would do pretty well. 00:28:41.45\00:28:44.02 Sure, Josh could modify that to some degree, 00:28:44.05\00:28:46.89 but it's really amazing. 00:28:46.92\00:28:48.39 These are faith building stories 00:28:48.42\00:28:49.79 when you see God providing. 00:28:49.82\00:28:51.43 Anything in particular jumps out at you, 00:28:51.46\00:28:52.99 when you think about how God is showing you 00:28:53.03\00:28:55.00 that I'm in what you're doing. 00:28:55.03\00:28:56.90 I know. 00:28:56.93\00:28:58.27 Any of those faith stories that you might think of? 00:28:58.30\00:29:00.70 Yeah, there was something 00:29:00.74\00:29:02.07 that was very inspirational to me 00:29:02.10\00:29:03.44 is just to, to hear a couple of stories from some youth 00:29:03.47\00:29:06.47 who are sales agents selling the soap. 00:29:06.51\00:29:08.21 Oh, yeah. Let's hear it. 00:29:08.24\00:29:09.58 For example, this one girl 00:29:09.61\00:29:11.35 which you'll also see in a video 00:29:11.38\00:29:13.85 that will be showed is 00:29:13.88\00:29:16.15 couldn't afford to even buy a cell phone 00:29:16.18\00:29:18.09 and she couldn't afford to go to school, 00:29:18.12\00:29:20.62 but her friend told her about the soap project 00:29:20.66\00:29:22.89 and about how, 00:29:22.92\00:29:24.26 you know, she could sell these healthy soaps 00:29:24.29\00:29:25.63 and also make a living for herself. 00:29:25.66\00:29:28.53 And so she started doing this 00:29:28.56\00:29:29.90 and she was able to afford the cell phone 00:29:29.93\00:29:32.13 as well as help to support her tuition, 00:29:32.17\00:29:34.87 to continue her education. 00:29:34.90\00:29:36.67 And so, there's these inspirational stories like that 00:29:36.71\00:29:39.54 as well as just the feedback from the customers 00:29:39.57\00:29:42.11 has been overwhelmingly positive. 00:29:42.14\00:29:44.15 And so, 00:29:44.18\00:29:45.51 that has been a blessing and an inspiration as well. 00:29:45.55\00:29:48.52 That's wonderful. Now I have a quick question. 00:29:48.55\00:29:51.49 Sure. This is totally different. 00:29:51.52\00:29:53.09 What about COVID? 00:29:53.12\00:29:54.52 How has COVID affected Zambia and the work going on there? 00:29:54.56\00:29:58.53 That's a very good question. 00:29:58.56\00:29:59.89 Sure. Great question. 00:29:59.93\00:30:01.90 Well, the good thing is, is that we're making soap 00:30:01.93\00:30:05.07 and we all know that during times of COVID, 00:30:05.10\00:30:07.27 hand washing is the most important thing 00:30:07.30\00:30:09.80 that we could do. 00:30:09.84\00:30:11.17 That is really insightful. 00:30:11.21\00:30:12.54 And so, hand washing is super important. 00:30:12.57\00:30:15.18 So we just are showing that, 00:30:15.21\00:30:17.38 you know, the ingredients that we use, 00:30:17.41\00:30:18.75 they're not only antibacterial, antifungal, but also antiviral. 00:30:18.78\00:30:22.88 And so, of course, they're, you know, 00:30:22.92\00:30:26.05 following the other precautions that are in place. 00:30:26.09\00:30:28.82 But this is, you know, a product that's in need, 00:30:28.86\00:30:31.79 you know, regardless of what time of year it is, 00:30:31.83\00:30:34.43 whether it's COVID season or non COVID season, 00:30:34.46\00:30:38.17 washing hands is something that tends to never go away. 00:30:38.20\00:30:40.57 Exactly. 00:30:40.60\00:30:41.94 Are these bubbly soaps or are they not bubbly? 00:30:41.97\00:30:43.94 Yeah, they're very bubbly, 00:30:43.97\00:30:45.31 especially because of the coconut oil 00:30:45.34\00:30:47.28 and some different and natural ingredients 00:30:47.31\00:30:49.44 that we use. 00:30:49.48\00:30:50.95 But coconut, palm and soy oil are the main ingredients 00:30:50.98\00:30:54.28 that form the base. 00:30:54.32\00:30:55.65 And then we add other additives such as Bel Patra powder. 00:30:55.68\00:30:58.12 Keep all the ingredients. 00:30:58.15\00:31:00.26 You know, they got the secrets, 00:31:00.29\00:31:02.16 while they're writing down the secrets. 00:31:02.19\00:31:04.19 Get that out. 00:31:04.23\00:31:06.13 Now, Ashley, it's important 00:31:06.16\00:31:07.80 to empower these young women and youth, isn't it? 00:31:07.83\00:31:11.40 Yeah. I think so. Yeah. 00:31:11.43\00:31:13.64 So, sorry, what you were gonna ask? 00:31:13.67\00:31:15.44 Yeah and why? And why? 00:31:15.47\00:31:17.27 Because the unemployment rate in Zambia 00:31:17.31\00:31:20.98 is actually pretty high. 00:31:21.01\00:31:22.38 Last I checked, it was around 11.41% or so. 00:31:22.41\00:31:26.51 And so, being able to create these jobs for these youth, 00:31:26.55\00:31:32.55 you know, have something where they can learn skills, 00:31:32.59\00:31:34.86 they can learn, 00:31:34.89\00:31:36.22 you know, not only to do sales, 00:31:36.26\00:31:37.59 but things like management and leadership 00:31:37.63\00:31:40.03 and other things like that. 00:31:40.06\00:31:41.40 And then being able to take these skills and make, 00:31:41.43\00:31:44.23 you know, a passive income, 00:31:44.27\00:31:45.97 something that will help them to purchase things 00:31:46.00\00:31:48.30 that they haven't otherwise been able to buy. 00:31:48.34\00:31:51.14 You know, maybe things like cell phones, 00:31:51.17\00:31:52.67 like Josh was saying about that one girl 00:31:52.71\00:31:54.71 or better transportation to get into town, you know, 00:31:54.74\00:31:58.71 so they can buy things that they might need. 00:31:58.75\00:32:01.48 All of that's important 00:32:01.52\00:32:03.05 just to increase their quality of life. 00:32:03.08\00:32:04.92 And so that's why I think it's important to, 00:32:04.95\00:32:07.39 you know, use Akuna to empower these women and youth. 00:32:07.42\00:32:10.39 And it's not just product, 00:32:10.43\00:32:12.39 but also enterprise, 00:32:12.43\00:32:14.23 once again, the business spiritual model, 00:32:14.26\00:32:16.73 empowering women, providing needs. 00:32:16.77\00:32:19.27 It's really amazing because a lot of people, 00:32:19.30\00:32:21.27 when you're talking about 11% of unemployment, 00:32:21.30\00:32:23.20 I mean that's high. 00:32:23.24\00:32:24.57 Especially for women. 00:32:24.61\00:32:25.94 Yeah, that's high. 00:32:25.97\00:32:27.31 And then all of a sudden along comes a product 00:32:27.34\00:32:28.74 that is opening the doors. 00:32:28.78\00:32:31.08 Josh? Yes. 00:32:31.11\00:32:32.45 And the business as giving them these business 00:32:32.48\00:32:36.35 and entrepreneurial skills. 00:32:36.38\00:32:37.72 Entrepreneurial skills 00:32:37.75\00:32:39.09 is a fundamental parts of the industry. 00:32:39.12\00:32:40.86 But we also realized that we are living in the last days. 00:32:40.89\00:32:43.43 Amen. 00:32:43.46\00:32:44.79 And the gospel of the kingdom 00:32:44.83\00:32:46.16 needs to be preached to the whole world. 00:32:46.19\00:32:47.53 Yes. 00:32:47.56\00:32:48.90 So we want to combine business with ministry. 00:32:48.93\00:32:50.33 And when we're training these sales agents 00:32:50.37\00:32:52.13 give them tools 00:32:52.17\00:32:53.50 where they're not just treating the customer 00:32:53.54\00:32:55.64 as an object to get money from, 00:32:55.67\00:32:57.91 but also as a child of God. 00:32:57.94\00:33:00.01 So we tell them, 00:33:00.04\00:33:02.24 we teach them and instruct them 00:33:02.28\00:33:04.71 how to spread the three angels' messages, 00:33:04.75\00:33:07.15 also how to do Bible study and witnessing 00:33:07.18\00:33:10.35 and just being these agents not only for soap, 00:33:10.39\00:33:14.36 but also for God. 00:33:14.39\00:33:16.22 And this has been a fundamental part 00:33:16.26\00:33:19.09 of everything. 00:33:19.13\00:33:20.46 And one idea that we actually have in mind 00:33:20.50\00:33:22.36 is to make a laminated truth cards, 00:33:22.40\00:33:24.77 which will be small, affordable, 00:33:24.80\00:33:27.30 and waterproof during rainy season, 00:33:27.34\00:33:29.40 which will have all the fundamental truths 00:33:29.44\00:33:31.67 like the sanctuary, 00:33:31.71\00:33:33.17 state of the dead, second coming, salvation. 00:33:33.21\00:33:35.98 And so, this is also a project 00:33:36.01\00:33:38.41 that we're currently fundraising for, 00:33:38.45\00:33:40.15 but by God's grace, 00:33:40.18\00:33:41.52 we want this truth to go out to the people of Zambia, 00:33:41.55\00:33:44.29 like the leaves of autumn. 00:33:44.32\00:33:45.65 Wow. 00:33:45.69\00:33:47.02 I think what we want to do right now 00:33:47.06\00:33:48.39 is watch that video about the product 00:33:48.42\00:33:50.63 and how it's empowering young people 00:33:50.66\00:33:52.73 and how it's making a difference there in Zambia. 00:33:52.76\00:33:55.46 My name is Ignatius Kabwe, 00:34:04.61\00:34:06.54 and I'm the books manager here at Riverside. 00:34:06.57\00:34:10.18 I feel the Akuna soap industry 00:34:10.21\00:34:13.21 is very important here in Zambia 00:34:13.25\00:34:15.12 because it gives an opportunity to the youth 00:34:15.15\00:34:18.22 who don't have money to go to school, 00:34:18.25\00:34:20.52 to sell the soap and raise money 00:34:20.56\00:34:22.82 so that they can go to school. 00:34:22.86\00:34:24.66 The youth empowerment 00:34:24.69\00:34:26.03 is very important here in Zambia 00:34:26.06\00:34:27.46 because you know when we look at the youths, 00:34:27.50\00:34:30.17 we are looking at the future, 00:34:30.20\00:34:31.57 not only of the church, 00:34:31.60\00:34:33.30 but the future of the country as well. 00:34:33.34\00:34:35.07 You know, there are people out there who just go, 00:34:35.10\00:34:38.24 maybe to church 00:34:38.27\00:34:39.61 because their parents have been going to church 00:34:39.64\00:34:41.71 since they were born. 00:34:41.74\00:34:43.11 So they don't really know why they go to that church 00:34:43.14\00:34:46.21 and some go to church 00:34:46.25\00:34:48.05 and they don't really get to study the gospel. 00:34:48.08\00:34:50.85 By us selling soap to them and teaching them about 00:34:50.89\00:34:54.16 how they can keep their bodies healthy. 00:34:54.19\00:34:57.23 It helps us to befriend them and by so doing, 00:34:57.26\00:35:01.00 we can get to minister to them 00:35:01.03\00:35:02.80 and tell them more about Jesus Christ. 00:35:02.83\00:35:05.77 He is very interested in our health, 00:35:05.80\00:35:08.57 as might, as he's interested in our spiritual life. 00:35:08.60\00:35:11.77 So I feel Akuna is just like canvassing, 00:35:11.81\00:35:14.78 a way of reaching out to the souls 00:35:14.81\00:35:17.01 and opening the door for the gospel 00:35:17.05\00:35:19.71 to be preached to them. 00:35:19.75\00:35:21.48 I have friends who are selling Akuna soap, 00:35:21.52\00:35:23.39 but one of my friends, 00:35:23.42\00:35:24.75 she moved all the way from Kafue to Lusaka 00:35:24.79\00:35:27.82 just to sell her Akuna soap. 00:35:27.86\00:35:29.62 And in just a day she was able to sell two boxes. 00:35:29.66\00:35:34.43 That made her so happy, 00:35:34.46\00:35:35.90 she told me that she was so excited and so humbled 00:35:35.93\00:35:38.93 because of this Akuna soap industry that came. 00:35:38.97\00:35:41.84 She is able now to take care of her tuition fee 00:35:41.87\00:35:44.91 because she's at the university. 00:35:44.94\00:35:46.54 She couldn't do that because she never had money. 00:35:46.57\00:35:49.04 So she said ever since she started selling Akuna soap, 00:35:49.08\00:35:51.58 she's able to pay for her own tuition fees. 00:35:51.61\00:35:54.05 She makes sure that when she's on holidays, 00:35:54.08\00:35:56.55 she goes around, 00:35:56.58\00:35:57.92 she sells the soap and she is so excited. 00:35:57.95\00:36:00.72 So this is how Akuna soap can really help you. 00:36:00.76\00:36:03.16 Remember, you just have to be hard working 00:36:03.19\00:36:05.63 and involve God in whatever you do, 00:36:05.66\00:36:07.83 and everything will work out for you. 00:36:07.86\00:36:09.93 My name is Remmy Habanyama, 00:36:09.96\00:36:11.73 and I'm the human resource manager 00:36:11.77\00:36:13.17 for Riverside Farm Institute. 00:36:13.20\00:36:15.14 And so, I have had a privilege of seeing 00:36:15.17\00:36:17.51 Akuna soap industry grow from scratch 00:36:17.54\00:36:20.64 to where it is now. 00:36:20.68\00:36:22.08 And I will tell you to say, 00:36:22.11\00:36:23.45 I have had the privilege of also seeing 00:36:23.48\00:36:25.28 the impact that it has to the society 00:36:25.31\00:36:27.78 and the community at large, here in Zambia. 00:36:27.82\00:36:30.55 You are therefore encouraged to support this company 00:36:30.59\00:36:33.49 through whatever means 00:36:33.52\00:36:35.29 whether financially, whether in terms of knowledge, 00:36:35.32\00:36:38.39 whether in terms of manpower, 00:36:38.43\00:36:39.79 whatever you can do actually can do, 00:36:39.83\00:36:42.06 like that hymn that says, 00:36:42.10\00:36:43.97 if you cannot be the watchman 00:36:44.00\00:36:45.33 then there's something that you can do. 00:36:45.37\00:36:46.90 Surely I believe that 00:36:46.94\00:36:48.27 there's something that you can do 00:36:48.30\00:36:49.70 to ensure that this company grows. 00:36:49.74\00:36:53.21 Thank you so much, and may God bless you. 00:36:53.24\00:36:56.08 Don't forget that internet address, 00:37:06.55\00:37:08.36 akunasoap.org. 00:37:08.39\00:37:12.59 And, I don't think 00:37:12.63\00:37:14.50 it's going to be too far distant in the future 00:37:14.53\00:37:16.46 we're going to see that logo in America. 00:37:16.50\00:37:18.50 We need that here in America. 00:37:18.53\00:37:19.87 I think I'm lifting this bar to smell it. 00:37:19.90\00:37:21.24 Do you agree, we need it here? 00:37:21.27\00:37:24.01 Let's talk about some of the future goals 00:37:24.04\00:37:27.91 and future aspirations you talked about. 00:37:27.94\00:37:30.65 I think you mentioned a moment ago, 00:37:30.68\00:37:32.01 about one-third of the funds came in 00:37:32.05\00:37:33.52 and 35,000 is a lot, 00:37:33.55\00:37:35.48 but the goal that you have in mind, 00:37:35.52\00:37:37.95 I believe that there's somebody watching 00:37:37.99\00:37:39.32 or maybe a group of people watching today that might say, 00:37:39.35\00:37:42.09 hey, this is so empowering. 00:37:42.12\00:37:44.16 I want to be a part of it, but let's talk about that. 00:37:44.19\00:37:46.66 All right, so, yes, God was blessing us very much 00:37:46.70\00:37:50.50 in that 35,000 donation that came in, 00:37:50.53\00:37:53.84 but as we're moving forward 00:37:53.87\00:37:55.80 there's an increase in demand that's already happening 00:37:55.84\00:37:58.97 and also will happen in the near future. 00:37:59.01\00:38:01.88 Because we've been able to partner 00:38:01.91\00:38:03.75 with some major retail chains there in Zambia as well. 00:38:03.78\00:38:07.85 And in order to provide the funds 00:38:07.88\00:38:09.32 for empowering more youth and women over there, 00:38:09.35\00:38:12.35 we also need some more funds to pay for the equipment 00:38:12.39\00:38:16.09 and machines and raw materials that will help us to increase. 00:38:16.12\00:38:22.23 So we're looking at about 70,000 more as our goal. 00:38:22.26\00:38:27.34 And so, 00:38:27.37\00:38:29.10 if you feel that God is impressing you in any way 00:38:29.14\00:38:31.27 to help this ministry, just remember that. 00:38:31.31\00:38:32.64 Speak to that camera right there. 00:38:32.67\00:38:34.01 Even small amounts can help, 00:38:34.04\00:38:36.48 even $5 will make a tremendous difference. 00:38:36.51\00:38:39.51 And if that's what God is calling you to do, 00:38:39.55\00:38:42.25 please consider it. 00:38:42.28\00:38:44.09 And we'll have the address roll up 00:38:44.12\00:38:45.85 later on in the program 00:38:45.89\00:38:47.22 and makes sure that they get that. 00:38:47.26\00:38:48.59 But let's talk about Enactus competition. 00:38:48.62\00:38:52.53 Can you give me some insight into what that is? 00:38:52.56\00:38:54.80 Yeah. 00:38:54.83\00:38:56.16 So every year there is a national competition 00:38:56.20\00:38:59.63 for Enactus chapters that are in the United States 00:38:59.67\00:39:02.80 and every year our Southern team 00:39:02.84\00:39:05.17 has done traditionally pretty well. 00:39:05.21\00:39:07.98 So the competition structured like at a divisional level. 00:39:08.01\00:39:12.11 And then once you make it past divisions, 00:39:12.15\00:39:13.82 you go to semifinals 00:39:13.85\00:39:15.18 and then you have final four and so on, 00:39:15.22\00:39:16.82 so that type of thing. 00:39:16.85\00:39:18.25 And we've always done pretty well 00:39:18.29\00:39:19.92 in our divisional level. 00:39:19.95\00:39:21.29 We were placed second 00:39:21.32\00:39:22.66 in the past three years in a row in our division. 00:39:22.69\00:39:26.03 This year we were actually able to not only make it 00:39:26.06\00:39:29.66 past divisional level for the first time 00:39:29.70\00:39:31.80 in Enactus Southern Adventist University history, 00:39:31.83\00:39:35.04 but we placed third in the entire country, 00:39:35.07\00:39:38.87 which was just absolutely amazing, You know, 00:39:38.91\00:39:42.08 we were excited, 00:39:42.11\00:39:43.45 the students were excited about it, 00:39:43.48\00:39:45.11 and I just thought it was cool 00:39:45.15\00:39:47.85 to see Southern represented on that kind of national level 00:39:47.88\00:39:50.99 and be able to spread the word about what we're doing 00:39:51.02\00:39:53.39 and, you know, with Akuna as well, 00:39:53.42\00:39:55.49 to all those people 00:39:55.52\00:39:56.86 who were kind of looking on, so. 00:39:56.89\00:39:59.53 So, the slogan with God nothing is impossible. 00:39:59.56\00:40:01.50 Yeah. 00:40:01.53\00:40:02.86 You must be proud as a teacher. 00:40:02.90\00:40:04.63 Yeah, you know, I mean, 00:40:04.67\00:40:06.00 we don't do this for competition. 00:40:06.03\00:40:08.37 The neat thing about this competition 00:40:08.40\00:40:09.77 is you basically just present 00:40:09.80\00:40:11.57 what you've been doing for others, 00:40:11.61\00:40:13.68 but it was really, I guess, 00:40:13.71\00:40:15.41 just very rewarding to see that 00:40:15.44\00:40:17.35 others are seeing value in what's happening. 00:40:17.38\00:40:21.08 Like others can see it and say, wow, 00:40:21.12\00:40:23.45 this is really cool what's going on. 00:40:23.49\00:40:25.85 And that is, you know, worth showcasing 00:40:25.89\00:40:28.66 and, just the growth in the project. 00:40:28.69\00:40:32.86 So we have other projects in Enactus as well. 00:40:32.89\00:40:35.00 We've had one working with the blind in India. 00:40:35.03\00:40:38.00 We have one working with teenage girls in Tennessee 00:40:38.03\00:40:41.90 and other places virtually doing computer coding. 00:40:41.94\00:40:44.91 We have one helping small businesses 00:40:44.94\00:40:46.81 that were hurt by COVID to do marketing 00:40:46.84\00:40:49.24 and get out there, 00:40:49.28\00:40:51.01 one working with student entrepreneurs. 00:40:51.05\00:40:53.58 And so, it's been really fun 00:40:53.62\00:40:56.15 and Akuna is the one 00:40:56.18\00:40:57.82 I think that has the most growth right now 00:40:57.85\00:41:00.72 and just so much potential like Josh said, 00:41:00.76\00:41:03.53 the retail partnerships 00:41:03.56\00:41:05.36 have just totally blown demand up now as well. 00:41:05.39\00:41:09.60 And now we are looking at the US, 00:41:09.63\00:41:12.83 I mean and other countries in Africa 00:41:12.87\00:41:15.17 that is slowly coming, 00:41:15.20\00:41:17.37 but it's just neat to see that this has gone beyond like, 00:41:17.41\00:41:21.41 people think, you have students they do nice little projects. 00:41:21.44\00:41:24.95 No, they're doing projects that really change lives 00:41:24.98\00:41:29.18 and can change a whole community. 00:41:29.22\00:41:30.55 Are they been sold in stores in Zambia? 00:41:30.59\00:41:35.12 Yes. 00:41:35.16\00:41:36.49 There currently, 00:41:36.52\00:41:37.86 for the past year they've been sold 00:41:37.89\00:41:39.23 in one of the health stores in Zambia 00:41:39.26\00:41:41.06 called Umoyo Natural Health, 00:41:41.10\00:41:42.53 which has 10 branches just in Lusaka, 00:41:42.56\00:41:45.20 which is the capital. 00:41:45.23\00:41:46.57 And so, we have some partnerships as well 00:41:46.60\00:41:50.51 that we are going to begin buying from us 00:41:50.54\00:41:52.94 as soon as I go back in about a month 00:41:52.97\00:41:55.78 but, it's actually a two tiered emphasis 00:41:55.81\00:42:00.45 for our sales structure. 00:42:00.48\00:42:01.88 We hope to do retail 00:42:01.92\00:42:03.25 as well as empowering those youth and women. 00:42:03.28\00:42:05.95 So far there's about maybe 300 that are trained, 00:42:05.99\00:42:09.39 but our plan is by God's grace to have about 3000 trained 00:42:09.42\00:42:13.46 by the time we are done. 00:42:13.50\00:42:16.40 And it seems like a lofty goal, 00:42:16.43\00:42:18.23 but if we remember in the Book of Acts, 00:42:18.27\00:42:20.34 the Bible talks about how in just one day, 00:42:20.37\00:42:22.54 3000 came to the church. 00:42:22.57\00:42:24.57 And also as a reminder that 00:42:24.61\00:42:25.94 with God, nothing is impossible. 00:42:25.97\00:42:27.58 You know, the Bible says in Ecclesiastes, 00:42:27.61\00:42:30.01 whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. 00:42:30.05\00:42:33.55 And that's one of our verses 00:42:33.58\00:42:36.28 that is a founding principle of the industry, 00:42:36.32\00:42:39.85 but also a daily reminder to me that whatever we're doing, 00:42:39.89\00:42:42.96 if we leave it in God's hands 00:42:42.99\00:42:44.76 and we can continue to do His work, 00:42:44.79\00:42:46.93 then He will continue to grow and prosper it. 00:42:46.96\00:42:49.96 You know, it must be interesting to see the light 00:42:50.00\00:42:51.67 coming on the lives of those in Zambia. 00:42:51.70\00:42:54.07 And, also the farm there 00:42:54.10\00:42:56.40 that has been established for a number of years, 00:42:56.44\00:42:58.87 Riverside Farm, because the industry is huge. 00:42:58.91\00:43:01.78 We've had the two main people that lead out in... 00:43:01.81\00:43:05.88 Alan and Pauline. 00:43:05.91\00:43:07.25 Alan and Pauline come here before, 00:43:07.28\00:43:08.95 but then now this has added an additional dimension. 00:43:08.98\00:43:11.49 So, Josh, I got to honestly say this. 00:43:11.52\00:43:13.99 I mean, you haven't decided 00:43:14.02\00:43:15.36 where are you going to live permanently. 00:43:15.39\00:43:17.23 But it be hard to leave a vision like this behind 00:43:17.26\00:43:19.73 and say, well, I'm going to move on 00:43:19.76\00:43:21.10 to other things, 00:43:21.13\00:43:22.46 I think that, 00:43:22.50\00:43:23.83 I think you mentioned about essential oils. 00:43:23.87\00:43:25.20 You're working on that also. 00:43:25.23\00:43:26.57 Yes, that's a project 00:43:26.60\00:43:27.94 that is still in the long-term planning 00:43:27.97\00:43:29.60 'cause currently we're importing from India. 00:43:29.64\00:43:33.38 But we want to also produce those essential oils in country 00:43:33.41\00:43:38.11 and that will be a project 00:43:38.15\00:43:39.48 that Ashley will also be heading up. 00:43:39.51\00:43:42.22 But essentially to have all the ingredients come locally, 00:43:42.25\00:43:46.32 either from Zambia or from Africa as a whole. 00:43:46.35\00:43:49.42 And as far as my long-term plans, 00:43:49.46\00:43:51.33 I just want to be following God's leading. 00:43:51.36\00:43:53.70 I do have one more year of school at Southern. 00:43:53.73\00:43:55.73 So I plan to finish that. 00:43:55.76\00:43:58.13 But it's been a phenomenal experience 00:43:58.17\00:44:01.07 so far and great to see how God has led 00:44:01.10\00:44:04.27 and all the things that I've been able to learn. 00:44:04.31\00:44:07.24 So you a business student. 00:44:07.28\00:44:08.61 Correct? That's correct. 00:44:08.64\00:44:10.71 That's what, that's how it got started, 00:44:10.75\00:44:13.55 but cleanliness is next to godliness 00:44:13.58\00:44:16.02 and it's amazing that prior to the program, 00:44:16.05\00:44:17.92 I said, you know, you should say to them, 00:44:17.95\00:44:19.29 cleanliness is next to godliness. 00:44:19.32\00:44:20.72 And they said, well, that's our slogan 00:44:20.76\00:44:22.79 and amazing how that works. 00:44:22.82\00:44:24.16 But, Ashley, 00:44:24.19\00:44:25.53 you're looking forward to diving in 00:44:25.56\00:44:26.90 haven't got the Zambian dust on your feet yet. 00:44:26.93\00:44:29.13 What are you envisioning? 00:44:29.16\00:44:30.50 Yeah, I mean, like I said before, 00:44:30.53\00:44:32.83 a lot to learn, you know, first time in Africa, 00:44:32.87\00:44:35.94 but I do hope to be able to head up 00:44:35.97\00:44:38.44 that essential oils project a little bit 00:44:38.47\00:44:40.64 and something that's really exciting to me about that 00:44:40.68\00:44:44.18 is being able to empower the local farmers 00:44:44.21\00:44:47.12 to grow the ingredients needed for that. 00:44:47.15\00:44:49.18 So the idea is that we're not, 00:44:49.22\00:44:50.95 you know, buying anything from other countries, 00:44:50.99\00:44:53.02 but we are giving money 00:44:53.05\00:44:54.46 to the people who live right there around Riverside 00:44:54.49\00:44:57.03 to grow those ingredients for us 00:44:57.06\00:44:58.86 and helping them, 00:44:58.89\00:45:00.23 you know, to build a better financial future 00:45:00.26\00:45:01.96 for themselves. 00:45:02.00\00:45:03.33 And then while also furthering the mission of Akuna 00:45:03.37\00:45:05.27 at the same time. 00:45:05.30\00:45:06.63 So it's just about making it as sustainable as possible, 00:45:06.67\00:45:09.57 you know, helping the local people around us, 00:45:09.60\00:45:11.91 empowering the women and youth growing the business, 00:45:11.94\00:45:14.41 spreading the gospel, 00:45:14.44\00:45:15.78 all of it combined into one beautiful circle bubble. 00:45:15.81\00:45:20.22 I don't know what I would call it, cycle, 00:45:20.25\00:45:22.48 but, yeah, that's the goal, so. 00:45:22.52\00:45:25.55 Are we seeing new people coming in into the message 00:45:25.59\00:45:28.12 or through Bible study 00:45:28.16\00:45:31.19 or even through the soaps? 00:45:31.23\00:45:34.56 That's a great question. 00:45:34.60\00:45:36.16 So, we deal generally with the churches 00:45:36.20\00:45:39.27 and the conferences 00:45:39.30\00:45:40.64 who get the soaps from us 00:45:40.67\00:45:43.51 and then they distribute them to the young people. 00:45:43.54\00:45:45.97 So I'm sure there are plenty of stories like that. 00:45:46.01\00:45:48.58 But one story 00:45:48.61\00:45:49.94 that comes to mind in particular 00:45:49.98\00:45:51.55 is our production manager 00:45:51.58\00:45:53.68 who was dealing over all the soaps. 00:45:53.72\00:45:55.92 And he mentioned to me 00:45:55.95\00:45:59.42 a few weeks before I came to the US 00:45:59.45\00:46:01.42 that he had started reading The Great Controversy 00:46:01.46\00:46:03.36 and The Desire of Ages. 00:46:03.39\00:46:04.96 And he actually hadn't, he wasn't Adventist yet, 00:46:04.99\00:46:07.76 but he was studying to be Adventist. 00:46:07.80\00:46:09.90 And so, through his work there, 00:46:09.93\00:46:12.77 and also with the wellness center, 00:46:12.80\00:46:14.64 he was able to really see the witness 00:46:14.67\00:46:16.40 as Christians that we were portraying. 00:46:16.44\00:46:18.11 And he said, these books are amazing. 00:46:18.14\00:46:20.04 They've already changed my life. 00:46:20.08\00:46:21.48 Amen. 00:46:21.51\00:46:23.18 And, I want to just spend a little time 00:46:23.21\00:46:26.48 reiterating what we talked about, 00:46:26.51\00:46:28.32 but like where you have the mission, vision, values, 00:46:28.35\00:46:30.79 excellence, integrity, and loyalty 00:46:30.82\00:46:33.49 are earmarks of what you do. 00:46:33.52\00:46:35.49 And we talked quite a bit about the soaps, 00:46:35.52\00:46:37.56 but the soaps are the byproduct of the mission 00:46:37.59\00:46:42.56 that God has sent him there to do 00:46:42.60\00:46:44.17 not the gigantic main focus, 00:46:44.20\00:46:46.43 because Riverside Farms has been impacting lives 00:46:46.47\00:46:49.07 on an educational level, spiritual level, 00:46:49.10\00:46:51.61 soybeans, wheat, what else? 00:46:51.64\00:46:53.88 Bananas. Bananas, Wellness center. 00:46:53.91\00:46:56.31 Wellness center. 00:46:56.34\00:46:57.68 Primary, secondary school, as well as the Bible school. 00:46:57.71\00:47:00.35 Do they have a sewing class? 00:47:00.38\00:47:02.42 Yes, they have a tailoring school as well. 00:47:02.45\00:47:04.22 Remember that. 00:47:04.25\00:47:05.59 So Riverside Farm is a broad organization, 00:47:05.62\00:47:08.06 but including Ashley and Josh and Michelle, 00:47:08.09\00:47:11.53 I'm sure you're beaming with joy. 00:47:11.56\00:47:13.96 I don't think the word pride will be the proper word, 00:47:14.00\00:47:16.26 but seeing that what you have done 00:47:16.30\00:47:18.50 has empowered these young lives to make a difference. 00:47:18.53\00:47:21.57 And a lot of times people have to wait for decades 00:47:21.60\00:47:23.97 to say, well, what's Josh doing now. 00:47:24.01\00:47:26.31 They're seeing now. Well, Ashley up to? 00:47:26.34\00:47:28.84 You seeing the fruit of your labor 00:47:28.88\00:47:30.55 Fruit of your labor. 00:47:30.58\00:47:31.91 And I want to challenge those of you 00:47:31.95\00:47:33.28 that are watching the program 00:47:33.31\00:47:34.65 because, these bars of soap, eight of them are soaps 00:47:34.68\00:47:38.55 and four of them are... 00:47:38.59\00:47:40.02 Shampoo and conditioner body. 00:47:40.06\00:47:41.39 Shampoo and conditioner. 00:47:41.42\00:47:42.76 It's making an impact. 00:47:42.79\00:47:44.13 Cleanliness is next to godliness. 00:47:44.16\00:47:46.36 But Josh mentioned a moment ago that the inspiring goal, 00:47:46.39\00:47:51.07 the Lord has set before them 00:47:51.10\00:47:52.90 is needs about 70,000 more dollars 00:47:52.93\00:47:55.50 to expand the production industry, 00:47:55.54\00:47:57.77 to start meeting the demands 00:47:57.81\00:47:59.57 that are going to be exponential 00:47:59.61\00:48:01.08 coming up pretty soon. 00:48:01.11\00:48:02.44 Talk about that briefly? 00:48:02.48\00:48:03.81 Yeah. And a lot of questions. 00:48:03.85\00:48:05.18 And one question that many people may have is, 00:48:05.21\00:48:07.05 you know, where's this money going? 00:48:07.08\00:48:10.09 You know, where are the profits going that come in? 00:48:10.12\00:48:12.95 And, Riverside is a nonprofit organization. 00:48:12.99\00:48:17.26 But everything that we've been making so far 00:48:17.29\00:48:21.03 has been reinvested into the industry. 00:48:21.06\00:48:23.43 We plan to keep growing it 00:48:23.47\00:48:24.80 so that can help further God's work. 00:48:24.83\00:48:26.67 And, we are in a position 00:48:26.70\00:48:28.57 within probably the next six months 00:48:28.60\00:48:30.27 where we'll start to become profitable. 00:48:30.31\00:48:33.74 But essentially it's, 00:48:33.78\00:48:36.64 it goes to help further the mission of Riverside Farm, 00:48:36.68\00:48:39.38 which is serving the needs of humanity. 00:48:39.41\00:48:41.78 So there's plans to reach many other people 00:48:41.82\00:48:46.42 and minister to them throughout Zambia, 00:48:46.45\00:48:48.69 as well as building a Bible college 00:48:48.72\00:48:51.06 and a university there at Riverside Farm 00:48:51.09\00:48:53.83 and just finding different ways to fulfill that mission. 00:48:53.86\00:48:58.17 Wow. That's good. 00:48:58.20\00:48:59.53 So the Akuna soap industry, 00:48:59.57\00:49:02.04 and just, if somebody just tuned in 00:49:02.07\00:49:04.51 the program is winding up, Akuna means again? 00:49:04.54\00:49:08.34 It's short for Akuna Sesipala 00:49:08.38\00:49:10.08 which means, nothing is impossible. 00:49:10.11\00:49:12.31 Wow. 00:49:12.35\00:49:13.68 And so we're seeing that nothing is impossible. 00:49:13.72\00:49:15.42 So, Michelle, how are you going to inspire 00:49:15.45\00:49:16.95 your future students, 00:49:16.99\00:49:18.32 maybe that want to dive into something 00:49:18.35\00:49:19.85 that is creative as revolutionary as it is? 00:49:19.89\00:49:22.96 Well, I think that 00:49:22.99\00:49:24.33 when students see projects like this, 00:49:24.36\00:49:27.76 it gives them an idea of, 00:49:27.80\00:49:29.20 hey, maybe I could do something. 00:49:29.23\00:49:31.50 And that's really the hope is maybe it's not soap, 00:49:31.53\00:49:34.44 maybe it's something else, 00:49:34.47\00:49:35.80 but, for some students to go to, to India 00:49:35.84\00:49:38.91 or to South America or to the islands 00:49:38.94\00:49:41.44 and different places that need this 00:49:41.48\00:49:43.81 and use business as a way to share the gospel 00:49:43.85\00:49:47.12 and improve people's lives. 00:49:47.15\00:49:49.08 And I think that 00:49:49.12\00:49:50.62 we're just seeing the beginnings. 00:49:50.65\00:49:52.22 And so, 00:49:52.25\00:49:53.72 I think this will encourage other students, 00:49:53.76\00:49:55.62 but even those of you watching, 00:49:55.66\00:49:57.69 like any way that we support and encourage them 00:49:57.73\00:50:01.56 is furthering the work as well. 00:50:01.60\00:50:03.67 I may not get to be in Zambia right now. 00:50:03.70\00:50:05.73 I would like to, but they get to be in Zambia. 00:50:05.77\00:50:08.57 And that gives me a reward as well. 00:50:08.60\00:50:10.64 But you did say to me earlier 00:50:10.67\00:50:12.87 that you were just about to fly out to Zambia, 00:50:12.91\00:50:17.11 when COVID broke out. Share with us? 00:50:17.15\00:50:18.51 Well, we were actually going to Rwanda 00:50:18.55\00:50:20.55 first to do training for high school entrepreneurs 00:50:20.58\00:50:24.45 and to do this in Rwanda. 00:50:24.49\00:50:26.05 And then that very day, 00:50:26.09\00:50:28.52 the World Health Organization declared the pandemic 00:50:28.56\00:50:31.16 and everything shut down. 00:50:31.19\00:50:32.53 We literally had to get our things off the plane 00:50:32.56\00:50:35.23 and go back, so we didn't get to go, 00:50:35.26\00:50:38.40 but, but the work is still moving forward 00:50:38.43\00:50:41.04 and Lord willing, we will go soon, so. 00:50:41.07\00:50:43.24 Wow. That's good. 00:50:43.27\00:50:44.67 The Bible says, this gospel of the kingdom 00:50:44.71\00:50:46.88 shall be preached into all the world as a witness. 00:50:46.91\00:50:49.54 And we have to be creative too. 00:50:49.58\00:50:51.21 We have to be creative. 00:50:51.25\00:50:52.61 And I like in Luke 2:49, 00:50:52.65\00:50:54.88 when they came looking for Jesus, he said, 00:50:54.92\00:50:56.48 "Why do you seek me? 00:50:56.52\00:50:57.85 Did you not know 00:50:57.89\00:50:59.22 that I must be about my Father's business?" 00:50:59.25\00:51:01.62 And these young entrepreneurs says, 00:51:01.66\00:51:04.23 well, thank you, Michelle, 00:51:04.26\00:51:05.69 and Riverside Farms makes all the difference 00:51:05.73\00:51:08.83 because it's not just about business, 00:51:08.86\00:51:10.53 but it's about our Father's business. 00:51:10.57\00:51:13.37 Industry, the integrity, division, 00:51:13.40\00:51:16.24 all the quality products, 00:51:16.27\00:51:17.97 but then the gospel, 00:51:18.01\00:51:19.34 getting the world ready for the coming of Jesus 00:51:19.37\00:51:21.04 makes all the difference. 00:51:21.08\00:51:22.94 And, we just want people to know that 00:51:22.98\00:51:24.91 what God is doing in your life 00:51:24.95\00:51:26.28 and in your life is very worthy. 00:51:26.31\00:51:28.58 And we want to give you some information, 00:51:28.62\00:51:30.99 so that if you want to be able to donate toward the project, 00:51:31.02\00:51:33.96 here is the information that you need. 00:51:33.99\00:51:38.09 If you would like to financially support 00:51:38.13\00:51:40.33 or know more about Akuna Soap Industry, 00:51:40.36\00:51:42.90 you can mail them at PO Box 53, Kafue, Zambia. 00:51:42.93\00:51:47.37 That's PO Box 53, Kafue, Zambia. 00:51:47.40\00:51:50.87 You can reach them by telephone 00:51:50.91\00:51:52.64 at (423) 236-2651, 00:51:52.67\00:51:57.28 or you could reach them on WhatsApp 00:51:57.31\00:51:59.21 at 26 097-383-1182. 00:51:59.25\00:52:05.22 You can visit their website at akunasoap.org 00:52:05.25\00:52:08.72 That's akunasoap.org 00:52:08.76\00:52:11.19 or you can email them at akunasoap@gmail.com 00:52:11.23\00:52:15.06
